Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater.
Thank you, Bill. It is Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024. Here's what's happening today in America.
Defense rests. One million barrels released. Evil villains stepping down. An extreme turbulence. It's all
coming up. Then Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, the defense has
rested their case. It was fast in New York City. Donald Trump, of course, did not take the stand.
So we could talk about the details of the case, what was presented to the jury, what mistakes were
made, strongest points by the defense and the prosecution. But it doesn't really matter.
It's a jury of 12 people from Manhattan, 86 to 12 for Biden in 2020, Manhattan went.
But it needs to be unanimous either way.
And if it's not, even if there's one holdout, it's a hung jury.
They'd have to have a retrial if they choose to prosecute again.
Biden announcing he will release one million barrels of gasoline from the northeast reserves
to lower gas prices.
These are from storage facilities in New Jersey and Maine to, as the White House says,
lower costs for American families and consumers.
Congress actually ordered the sale of this section of our reserves and then closed them
off for good as a part of the most recent spending bill.
And Biden decided to time it for now leading into 4th of July.
Klaus Schwab, the central casting evil movie villain is stepping down from the head of the
World Economic Forum.
He's 86 years old.
There's no successor yet, but the Financial Times reporting that the Norwegian, the former
Norwegian foreign minister and current president of the World Economic Forum, Borgay Brendi
will take over the top job. Central casting, even villain jokes aside, the World Economic Forum is
pretty dangerous and now it's bigger than Klaus Schwab himself. Look up World Economic Forum,
own nothing, and be happy to know all you need to know about their vision for you and all of us
coming from our superiors. A Singaporean Airlines flight was flying from London to
Singapore, 211 passengers, 18 crew, and the flight was diverted to Bangkok after hitting such
terrible turbulence that someone died. 71 people were injured and there were several with
broken limbs. It was 90 seconds of extreme turbulence, which I may seem quick, but if you're in the
middle of it, 90 seconds would be forever. It's plenty of time to cause lots of damage. This was 10
hours into the flight. I'm Mike Slater from the podcast Politics by Faith, the great Bill O'Reilly.
He has your message of the day. Next.

Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day.
On this Wednesday, while attending my daughter's law school graduation,
I was struck by the speakers mentioning justice.
It was constant, and there was a reason, virtue signaling.
The problem with the justice concept is it means different things to different people.
For example, many liberal folks believe reparations for descendants of slaves is just.
While others say spending billions of taxpayer dollars on a historical wrong punishes innocent people who have nothing to do with the gross injustice of human bondage.
Another justice controversy revolves around the non-punishment of criminals.
In cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, the victims of crime are mounting.
while a soft treatment of offenders is embraced by progressive DAs and judges.
Both sides believe their positions are just.
There is a simple solution to the Justice Dilemma,
and that is preventing destructive people and actions from escaping accountability.
If you hurt another person or damaged the marketplace, like shoplifting,
you must pay a price.
Justice demands that, but the punishment has to fit the crime.
Violent people should be very severely punished.
As for the sins of the past, they should not be repeated,
but societal accountability now is impossible without hurting innocent people.
The philosophy of America is a justice, not ideology, should be paramount.

Biden supporters think this trial is a good thing for the legal system. They're living in an
alternative universe. I do believe that everybody who boosted this trial is going to get it right

Janet, Eskorn, Naples, Florida, love the smart life segment. When you spoke about cold cut
meat, not being healthy, were you referring to pre-packaged or sliced at the deli counter.
Pre-packaged has all those chemicals, so that it's far worse. But I wouldn't be eating a lot of
baloney anywhere. But it's just me. John Batten, Harley'sville, Pennsylvania. The

Now the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might not know.
Two hundred seventeen years ago today, a former vice president of the United States was charged with treason.
The event will go down as one of the biggest scandals in American history.
Here is the story of Aaron Burr and his conspiracy.
In the summer of 1807, Richmond, Virginia hosted what was described as the crime of the century.
51-year-old Aaron Burr, you had recently served as VP to Thomas Jefferson, was allegedly involved in a, quote, wicked conspiracy against the Young Republic.
According to his accusers, Burr was recruiting an army to steal territory out west.
His goal, to create a new country in the middle of North America, appointing himself as emperor.
Burr was reportedly in cahoots with the British crown, working alongside the English foreign
minister to, quote, affect a separation of the western part of the United States from that
which lies between the Atlantic and the mountains.
Well, the plot was soon noticed.
President Jefferson demanded Aaron Burr be charged with treason, and he was.
The trial presided over by Chief Justice John Marshall, Thomas Jefferson's cousin.
Burr's attorneys claimed his accusers forged letters and documents, and ultimately, the court agreed.
He was acquitted and released from confinement.
Despite the legal victory, old Aaron was labeled a villain and had to fall.
flee to Europe. And here's something else you might not know. Burr's bad reputation began three
years earlier than the conspiracy charge. Before his alleged plot, Aaron Burr became infamous
for his duel with Alexander Hamilton. On a quiet field outside of New York City,
Burr fatally shot Hamilton in the stomach because Hamilton campaigned against him for the New York
governor ship. Aaron Burr ultimately returned to the USA from Europe, living in New York City until his
death in 1836. Back after this. Power, politics, and the people behind the headlines. I'm Miranda
