Starting point is 00:00:30 Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the O'Reilly update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thank you, Bill. It is Wednesday, May 7th, 2025. Here's what's happening today in America. Transband back. Generals cut. Oh, Canada. And Ed Martin for U.S. Attorney. That's all coming up.
Starting point is 00:00:49 The bill's going to be here with your message to the day. But first, the Supreme Court, in a one-paragraph order, ruled that the Trump administration can indeed move forward with a ban on transgender military service members. It's believed, according to the Pentagon, there's over 4,000 trans service members. Trans advocacy groups say the numbers around 15,000. A lower court judge ruled that the policy from Trump was unsupported, dramatic, and facially unfair exclusionary policy. The Supreme Court did not explain its decision, only saying that the ban from the lower
Starting point is 00:01:24 court is blocked until the appeals court makes their decision. all these lawsuits have been pre-planned by advocacy groups. This case was filed by seven trans service members and one trans person who wanted to join the Marines. In other military news, Secretary of Defense Pete Hexath said he is cutting the number of four-star generals by 20%. He said in World War II, we had 12 million service members and only 17 four-and-five star generals. Today we have 2.1 million service members with 44 four-star generals. So we had a ratio of one general at every 6,000 troops. Today it's one general to every 1,400 troops.
Starting point is 00:02:02 The Secretary of Defense said more generals and admirals does not equal more success. Trump had a press conference with the Prime Minister of Canada, John Carney. It was pretty amazing 30 minutes. Trump said Canada is a very special place. And when it comes to becoming our 51st state, he said Canadians would have massive tax cuts, a free military, tremendous medical care. He said there'd be a lot of advantages for Canada. And he said, as a real estate developer, when you get rid of that artificially drawn line
Starting point is 00:02:31 and you look at that beautiful formation when it's all together, I said, that's the way it's meant to be. He said, I feel it's much better for Canada, tremendously beneficial for the Canadian citizen. And the new prime minister's right there. He's sitting right there. And Carney says, as you know from real estate, there are some places that are never for sale. And Trump responded with a smile, never say never. drama in D.C. to get Ed Martin confirmed as U.S. attorney for D.C. He's got to make it through the Judiciary Committee, and he's facing trouble from Tom Tillis in North Carolina. Senator Josh
Starting point is 00:03:03 Hawley says that he does expect Ed Martin to make it through the committee and then through the entire Senate. Stay tuned. I'm Mike Slater. Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day. On this Wednesday, we all pay taxes so our elected officials will have money to protect us and solve problems. That's civics 101. But you may have noticed that few schools teach civics any longer. Certainly the politicians have noticed.
Starting point is 00:04:09 My current take is that the Democrats really are not trying to solve difficult situations. They are solely interested in opposing Trump. Here are some questions to back my assertion up. What is the Democrats' solution to the $37 trillion debt? To illegal drugs being smuggled in from Mexico? To ending the wars in Ukraine and Gaza? to the yearly trillion-dollar trade deficit, to preventing Iran from building nuclear weapons,
Starting point is 00:04:51 to the exploding cost of health care. What are the Democrats putting forth to solve any of those problems? Well, President Biden had no specific plans to improve any of those things, and it looks like his party is carrying on Joe's tradition. right now maybe i missed the democratic sponsored legislation on the hill but i doubt it it is much easier to oppose solutions from anybody especially the trump administration rather than proposing your own solutions right democrats i'm bill o'reilly i approve the message by writing it you can reach me bill at bill o'reilly.com bill at bill o'reilly dot com name in town if you wish to opine
Starting point is 00:05:46 all right let's go to the mail barry wienstein carry north carolina o'reilly you should know that if president of mexico agrees to allow the american army into her country to attack cartel she and her family will be assassinated we pointed that out that there is a danger to the president day even ordinary mexican citizens be shocked not forgetting the war we fought against them taking Texas and other claimed territories. I don't know about that, Barry. 1845 is a long time away. And I think most Mexicans would be relieved
Starting point is 00:06:19 that drug cartels are destroyed. That is my opinion. As far as President Scheinbaum is concerned, maybe she requests the Navy SEALs guard her. If her own government can't, right? I'm sure President Trump would provide her with security in a joint military exercise. Eric, Cloddy Scheinbaum not strong enough and her country is too corrupt.
Starting point is 00:06:45 The U.S. cannot protect the few honest politicians and America's drug addiction is too strong. Also, many U.S. politician business leaders are paid off by cartels. No, they're not. There are a few on the border that are paid by cartels, but that's not a big problem here. Okay, it is a big problem in Mexico. Paul Deluccio, Las Vegas. here's a tough love hard truth the cartels are not responsible for drug use deaths in USA the drug users are it is willful suicide well I may be true but so what do you
Starting point is 00:07:21 let cartels kill millions of people gun them down corrupt the whole country smuggle migrants in here no you destroy them got to destroy them that that you can blame the drug addicts and I don't have a lot of sympathy for a lot of those people either but this is bigger than that in a moment something you might not know tires matter they're the only part of your vehicle that touches the road tread confidently with new tires from tire rack whether you're looking for expert recommendations or know exactly what you want tire rack makes it easy fast free shipping free road hazard protection convenient installation options

Now, the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might not know. 80 years ago today, Nazi Germany surrendered to the Allied forces, ending the European fighting in World War II. The capitulation stopped one of the bloodiest sagas in human history. Here is the story. By May 1945, Germany was unraveling. One week earlier, Adolf Hitler committed suicide inside
Starting point is 00:08:42 his Berlin bunker as the Allied forces advanced on all fronts. To the West American and British forces crossed into Germany from France, Belgium, and Holland. In the east, the Soviets bombed Berlin by day and night. In all, the Nazis and their collaborators retain small pockets of control. In Norway, Denmark, Bavaria, northern Italy. After the fur of suicide, Admiral Karl Dunnets assumed command of the general German government. On May 70, signed the unconditional surrender. Nazi leadership immediately went into hiding. Country was divided among the United States, USSR, France, and Great Britain.
Starting point is 00:09:30 But for some Germans, the war was not over, sensing defeat, one year earlier, Hitler loyalists form an organization known as Weirwolf. The plan, launch a Klan-Gestine campaign against the Allied occupiers. The group, consisting of 5,000 men, did launch several attacks in June 1945, but the unit never materialized into a significant threat. Demoralized and starving, the German people welcomed the end of the war. And here's something else you might not know. The last battle in Europe actually took place 700 miles south of Berlin in then-ugoslavia.
Starting point is 00:10:15 Their freedom fighters fought against the independent state of Croatia, a puppet regime created by the Nazis. The final shots of that battle were fired on May 25th, two weeks after Germany surrendered.
