Please go to TNUSA.com slash bill. Or call 800-245-6-0-0. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thank you, Bill. It is Monday, November 11th, 2024. Here's this happening today in America. a secret ballot. Sotomayor staying put, FEMA bigotry, and the first Veterans Day. It's all coming up. Then Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, the Republicans in the Senate will hold a secret ballot on Wednesday to determine who their leader will be. Mitch McConnell is leaving his leadership post. He's been in charge
Starting point is 00:00:46 of the Republicans in the Senate since 2007, the longest serving Senate party leader in U.S. history. But he's out now. So now we've got to vote for a new guy. Seems like it's come down to John Cornyn from Texas, John Thune from South Dakota, and the MAGA favorite Rick Scott from Florida. RFK Jr. tweeted, without Rick Scott, the entire Trump reform agenda is wobbly. There's also suggestion that J.D. Vance could serve as the leader of the Senate. Article 1, Section 3, Clause 4 said the vice president of the U.S. shall be president of the Senate, but shall have no vote unless they be equally divided. One reason we need a good, strong Senate is so that they can confirm the executive branch appointees, including Supreme Court justices.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Clarence Thomas and Sam Melito could retire in peace, knowing Trump could replace them with a strong Senate majority. But that leaves Justice Sotomayor. There are some activists on the left calling for her to retire now, like right now, so that Joe Biden can appoint a new replacement and jam it through the Democrat Senate before the new guys take over. But friends of Sotomayor said, no, no, she's staying put. She told a group at Harvard that she sometimes, cries after court decisions and that every loss truly traumatizes me in my stomach and in my heart. Marnie Washington has been fired from FEMA. She was the disaster survivor assistance crew leader for Highland County in Florida, but she wrote to her team under a list of best
Starting point is 00:02:12 practices. She literally said, avoid Holmes advertising Trump. And her people followed her advice. Photos from the system used by federal relief workers to track the homes they visited. Some of the form said, Trump sign, no entry per leadership. Per leadership, no stop, Trump flag. Or Trump sign, no contact per leadership. I wonder how often this happens that we never hear about it. Thank you to all of our veterans on this veteran day. The King of England created Armistice Day after the First World War. And we said, that's actually a pretty good idea. But it wasn't until 1953. When a man from Kansas proposed, we changed it to Veterans Day to honor veterans of all wars and all eras. The holiday was first celebrated in Emporia, Kansas,
Starting point is 00:02:52 in 1953 and was officially recognized in D.C. in 1968. To all of our veterans, thank you for your service. I'm Mike Slater from the podcast, Politics by Faith. Bill O'Reilly has your message today. Next. Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress. National debt rising, trade war, shaking the markets. Starting point is 00:04:16 On this Monday, there are many losers in the presidential election of 2024 beside Kamala Harris. Her party, Joe Biden, his legacy shot, the progressive movement, the people who think it's just great that biological men can compete with women in sports. All of those concerns have gotten it right between the eyes. but there's more. The television news industry is disintegrating. Not only did it favor Kamala Harris, but it was boring doing so.
Starting point is 00:05:00 How many commentators and anchors did you hear say we'll see at the end of the day? By the way. Hey, you pinheads, we need a little bit more than that. And Hollywood. The usual lefties came
Starting point is 00:05:23 out and said, oh, Kamala, well, the movie industry is collapsing. How about the music industry? It's not doing so great, except for Taylor Swift, who was a big Kamala supporter. So Taylor, Oprah,
Starting point is 00:05:40 and others got it between the eyes as well. Their credibility is zero. Many, many losers in this election cycle. And I'm sorry to say, most of them deserve it. They were not honest. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at bill o'Reilly.com. Bill at bill o'Reilly.com. Name in town if you wish to opine. Now let's go to the mail. Senneberg, Ohio, I'm hearing Trump's win is the greatest political comeback in history.
Starting point is 00:06:20 I think I disagree. What is your opinion bill? Nixon, he's up there. Richard Nixon got killed in the 1960s until he won the presidency in 68 after LBJ quit. And LBJ was so horrendous, so terrible, and you'll get all that in confronting the presidents that Republican Nixon won. And also, Andrew Jackson made an enormous comeback. after getting stiffed by John Quincy Adams, this is the first time around. That was an interesting comeback.
Starting point is 00:06:54 Christine Entrican, Frederick, Colorado. I watched News Nation per your recommendation bill. I'm very impressed with the balance reporting the numbers-based coverage in the analysis of the election. Surprisingly, I felt Chris Como did honest reporting. Well, he's a Democrat, but I've never said him do anything dishonest. and if he does, believe me, I'm going to call him on it. Mike Burnett, Annapolis, Maryland. Bill, your coverage is better than ever.
Starting point is 00:07:24 You're like the Babe Ruth of media. You call it and hit it out of the park. Well, that's very nice, Mike. I appreciate the analogy to Mr. Ruth. Margo Freer, Medford, Oregon. Bill, you and your staff, hands down at the best concise, truthful fact-based coverage. Thank you for being the master and commander of this. turbulent storm. A lot of credit goes to my staff. I actually complimented them in the morning
Starting point is 00:07:49 call for doing such a good job on this election coverage. Sometimes I have to scold them, not often, but boy, they did a good job. I couldn't have all this info because I didn't have time to research it. In a moment, something you might not know. It's been a rough year for fans of the Cheddar Bay Biscuit and All You Can Eat Shrimp. In May, popular seafood chain Red Lobster declared bankruptcy in federal court. The franchise is not alone. In the last decade, several major companies have filed for Chapter 11. Here are some examples.
Starting point is 00:09:05 Toys R Us went out of business in 2017. Executives blaming the closure on real estate costs and people buying toys online. Sears, J.C. Penny also declared bankruptcy in 2018, citing changing consumer preferences and cheaper alternatives at Amazon and Walmart. COVID closed a record number of businesses during the pandemic, including Hertz rental car, Brooks Brothers, California Pizza Kitchen, and the paper store. And the economic downturn continues today. The end is likely near for AMC movie theaters, foot locker, right aid.
Starting point is 00:09:51 According to data from the U.S. Commerce Department, more than 60,000 companies have gone bankrupt since 2014, eliminating 2.2 million jobs from the workforce. And here's something else you might not know. Contrary to popular belief, filing for Chapter 11 doesn't mean a business will disappear. The law allows a company to restructure debt, continue operations. It opens new avenues for credit and potential buyouts. If that fails, owners file Chapter 7, which authorizes the liquidation of assets and sale of properties. One positive example is Red Lobster. Last month, the federal court approved the restaurant's sale to an investment group for $500 million.
Starting point is 00:10:41 Seafood fans will continue to enjoy food at the chain's 600 locations across the USA, at least for now. You might not want to eat so much shrimp if you like the restaurant. on. Anyway, in total, Red Lobster sells 45 million pounds of shellfish every year. Back after this. Power, politics, and the people behind the headlines. I'm Miranda Devine, New York Post columnist, and the host of the brand new podcast, Podforce One.
