Starting point is 00:00:00 Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the O'Reilly Update, sponsored by Tax Network USA. America's number one choice for tax resolution. Please go to TNUSA.com slash bill or call 800-245-6-0-0-0. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thank you, Bill. It is Thursday, November 14th, 2024. Here's this happening today in America.
Starting point is 00:00:29 More appointments. New leader. Welcome back. And Penny Trial. That's all coming up. Then Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, the hits keep coming. Donald Trump has appointed Matt Gates to be the new attorney general. He has resigned his seat from Congress, which starts the clock to refill his seat as per Florida law within eight weeks by way of a special election, which would bring us to the very first day of the new Congress being sworn in January 3rd. Perfect timing. DeSantis gets to pick the replacement for Senator Marco Rubio. So no special election there. It's just the governor's choice on who replaces that seat. Also, Tulsi Gabbard is going to be the new director of national intelligence with the Senate confirmation.
Starting point is 00:01:09 John Thune is the new Senate leader for Republicans. He was Mitch McConnell's number two in the Senate for the last six years. He said he will push through Trump's cabinet nominees quickly. He said, we will do the job that the founders intended us to do in the United States and that the American people intended us to do. And that right now, after this mandate election coming out of the American people, people is to work with this president. Tim Scott will run the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Starting point is 00:01:35 So that's to make sure that Republicans expand their majority in the 2026 election, which strongly favors Republicans. The Republicans in the House reappointed Mike Johnson to continue on as his role as Speaker of the House. Donald Trump met with Joe Biden in the White House yesterday in the Oval Office. And I'm not even kidding, Joe Biden looked happier than I've ever seen him. The two acted like old friends. shaking hands, Biden said, welcome back.
Starting point is 00:02:00 He said, we look forward to a smooth transition and promise that you will be accommodated with everything that you need. Trump said, politics is tough. And in many cases, it's not a nice world, but it's a nice world today. They then had a 90 minute behind doors meeting. Lost in all this election news is the trial of Daniel Penny. He was the man who, when another man came into a New York City subway car, that this Marine, Daniel Penny restrained this person who ended up dying.
Starting point is 00:02:29 He's on trial for manslaughter and negligent homicide. Well, a man from the Bronx who helped Daniel Penny restrain Jordan Neely spoke at the trial. This is a man who told Penny that if you want to let go, I'll hold this man's arms to keep him down. The prosecution says that Daniel Penny's actions would have been laudable, but he held on for too long. Well past the point when Neely posed any real threat. I'm Mike Slater for the podcast Politics by Faith.
Starting point is 00:02:54 Bill O'Reilly with your message of the day. Next. Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress. National debt rising, trade war, shaking the markets. Starting point is 00:04:05 Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day. On this Thursday, these are hard times for left-wing news agencies, as American voters have repudiated them en masse. Nevertheless, the zealots keep on, keep it on, as some nitwit once said in the 1960s. The view is an ABC news program that has nothing to do with news gathering, so why it has the news designation is disconcerting. The ladies of the morning are spirited in their liberal presentation, which is fine. What isn't okay is their subversive rhetoric. This week, Sonny Hosten, posited that it is fine to.
Starting point is 00:04:54 avoid family members at holiday time if they supported Donald Trump. Not nice, not constructive, not anything positive. That point of view is mean and petty and at the same time applies to shunning folks who voted for Kamala Harris. If you do that, you are, in my opinion, un-American. All sincerely held beliefs should be respected in this country. But I see little respect for opposing points of view on the view. I well understand the liberal culture at all the networks, but things have gotten completely out of hand. If you disrespect people for holding a different view,
Starting point is 00:05:39 you are misguided and need to wise up before the holidays. Because I don't want to have to throw mashed potatoes. at you. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at Bill o'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill O'Reilly. Name in town if you wish to opine. All right, let's go to the mail. We got David Shuey, Stratford, Connecticut Bill. As of the latest telly, Kamala Harris, it's 72 million votes. Donald Trump, about 74 million. At my elderly age, my math indicates that's not a landslide victory. It is in this common, it is in this age
Starting point is 00:06:22 because California, New York, and Illinois, all right, New York, Chicago, L.A., three largest population centers, overwhelmingly left. The fact that Trump won two million more votes in Kamala Harris is stunning, and he got 312 electoral votes, so it is a landslide.
Starting point is 00:06:44 John, concierge member, it means my team will help John with whatever he needs. Check it out on bill o'Reilly.com. Spot-on analysis is Democratic Party bill. If Trump governs well, the Republicans will control the president of the next 12 years. Possible, you know, governing well is not easy. And I'm going to be fair to Trump. And John goes on, Democrats have no one. Yeah, they do.
Starting point is 00:07:12 There's two governors, Josh Shapiro in Pennsylvania and Andrew Breshears in Kentucky. Moderate Dems, very good candidates. They're not bereft. DeWitt on a message board. As long as universities are 90% radical, woke will continue to be a problem. Each new generation will have to learn the truth in the real world. I kind of agree with that. Woke's not going to just disappear.
Starting point is 00:07:38 But the more not woke stuff we can display, the better. Richard, I don't understand why people keep taking Trump literally. He wrote the book on negotiation. It puts a stake in the ground, well passes gold, then negotiates from there. So he's not planning on deporting 10 million people. There's a lot of truth to what you say. The deportation stuff gets hysterical low. That's the problem.
Starting point is 00:08:03 Gotta be methodical. In a moment, something you might not know. Hey, I'm Caitlin Becker, the host of the New York Postcast, and I've got exactly what you need to start your weekdays. Now the O'Reilly update brings you something you might not know. Since announcing the first presidential campaign nearly 10 years ago, Donald Trump has faced
Starting point is 00:08:50 more hostility from the media than any other person in American history except one. Despite press efforts to depict Trump as the ghost of Adolf Hitler, he easily vanquished Kamala Harris in both the popular and electoral votes this month. Within two months, until his second inauguration, here are some interesting facts about the nation's 45th and 47th president. Many folks think the Trump family fortune began in New York real estate, but its true origins are more complicated, as they say. Donald Trump's grandfather Friedrich sailed to America from Germany in 1885, arriving in New York City heavily in debt. After working as a barber, the 22-year-old headed west. He eventually established a restaurant called the Poodle Dog in the heart of Seattle's
Starting point is 00:09:47 Red Light District. Some suggest the Poodle Dog rented rooms to prostitutes, and there is evidence that did happen. Friedrich made a small fortune in Washington State before heading north to the Yukon territory during the gold rush. He opened a second establishment, the Arctic restaurant and hotel, which one Canadian described, quote, an excellent accommodation for single men. Friedrich returned to New York City where President Trump's father, Fred, was born in 1905. And here's something else you might not know. Fred Trump ultimately sent the future president to military school after discovering a cache of
Starting point is 00:10:39 hidden knives in Donald's bedroom. The young teenager developed an affinity for the garish streets of Times Square secretly traveling there to buy switchblades. Well, Fred Trump didn't like that. And Donald Trump describes his childhood in Queens as energetic. and rambunctious. No surprise. For more interesting facts about the former and future, Commander-in-Chief, please read my book, The United States of Trump. And by the way, the most vilified president was not Donald Trump. It was Abraham Lincoln. Back after this.
Starting point is 00:11:20 Power, politics, and the people behind the headlines. I'm Miranda Devine, New York Post columnist, and the host of the brand new podcast, Podforce 1.
