Starting point is 00:01:02 Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the weekend edition of the O'Reilly update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thank you, Bill. Here's what's happening this week in America. National Guardswoman killed. Campbell Soup's new motto, a second Thanksgiving celebration
Starting point is 00:01:19 and the president's Thanksgiving proclamation. It's all coming up. Then Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, the two National Guard members who were shot the other day in D.C. were sworn in less than 24 hours before they were shot. 20-year-old Sarah Bextram and 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe, both from West Virginia. Sarah has passed away. The murderer is Ramanula Lackenwall.
Starting point is 00:01:49 He allegedly drove cross-country from Washington State to target these guard members. He's an Afghan. ambushed these two guard members, shot them with the 357 Smith and Wesson revolver. Our attorney general said, we will do everything we can to seek the death penalty against that monster. One witness heard him say al-Hu Akbar during the attack. The president said this heinous assault was an act of evil, an act of hatred, and an act of terror. Americans tonight are with these two guardsmen and their families. In much less serious news, Martin Bailey, who was the vice president of Campbell Soup's,
Starting point is 00:02:24 Information Security Department and Cybersecurity Analyst. He was allegedly caught on a secret recording from a year ago insulting the company's food in the audio. He said, we have S food for blanking poor people. Who buys R.S? I don't buy Campbell's products barely anymore. Bioengineered meat? I don't want to eat a piece of chicken that came from a 3D printer. Campbell's soup fired him.
Starting point is 00:02:50 And then responded, we are proud of the food we make. and the high-quality ingredients we use. And then later said, we use quality ingredients and real chicken, always. Not the PR disaster they wanted to deal with over Thanksgiving. In November of last year, 75-year-old Guy Miller was walking his dog when the dog just took off after a squirrel and pulled him to the ground. Jalen Lockhart, 27-year-old, substitute mailman, saw Miller fall. Miller was confused, but was able to give his address to the mailman who ran to his house.
Starting point is 00:03:20 Fortunately, his wife answered the door. with their friends now. The 27 and the 75-year-old, this was their second Thanksgiving they spent together. He said, I look up to Guy. I see he's a great husband. He's been a great dad and a great mentor. Jalen also proposed to his girlfriend after dinner.
Starting point is 00:03:34 The president issued his Thanksgiving proclamation honoring the pilgrims who settled our continent and the patriots who won our independence on the battlefield. He ended saying, above all, we offer our endless gratitude to Almighty God for his love, grace, and infinite blessings. I'm Mike Slater for the podcast Politics by Faith Bill Riley has your message of the day. Next.

Starting point is 00:05:05 If the Puritans had a crystal ball, they might have insisted the Mayflower turn around and head back to Merry Old England, which wasn't very merry at all. In fact, it was downright chilly to anyone who didn't sing with the king. No way the fanatically religious Puritans were singing with anyone. In 1622, Massachusetts, things are kind of dark and foreboding. A little like today, lots of angst and confusion in the air, not a lot of tranquility and understanding. Half of the Mayflower passengers died within a year of disembarking. Life was very tough. Food scarce, no central heating, challenges everywhere now we have heat but it costs some money so does food
Starting point is 00:05:59 amusement insurance our wallets are getting a workout but it's worth it to me because we are living in a land of opportunity that's a cliche but it's true and that is my theme this Thanksgiving week Yes, things can get a bit crazy, but we will get through it. However, next year is not going to be easy either, as many things are going to happen. Just like with the long-ago Puritans, but we certainly have more fun than they did, and we don't have to wear those dopey hats. I'm Bill O'Reilly, I approve the message by writing it, you can reach me.
Starting point is 00:06:50 can reach me. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Name in town if you wish to opine. Go to the mail, Bonnie Fitzpatrick, Copper's Cove, Texas. Hey, Bill, can you weigh in on Trump's fascination with Bitcoin, AI, and Marjorie Taylor Green? Bitcoin, I know nothing about. I stay away from it. You're crazy if you get involved with Bitcoin. I guess the Trump's sons are making money there, but boy, that's risky. No clue. I know it's coming. I don't know how it's going to affect us. Marjorie Taylor Green, as we said yesterday, disagree with Trump, vehemently. And I think she's going to run for governor now that she's resigning from the House. Tanya, I assume President Trump no longer plans to freeze Putin's bank accounts. Earlier in the year, you said you were going to give Trump some time to work it all out. In the fall, you were going to be all over it. Is there a reason you aren't reporting on that strategy? No, I said we were going to watch the sanctions be crushed on Russia, which we have.
Starting point is 00:08:00 You're a concierge member so you can get transcripts. Putin's bank accounts aren't under Putin's name. It's not like Vlad has a little chase card. Every crazy thing in the world he's hiding the money. So we can't go after him, but we can strangle. the economy, which is what we're doing. Craig, Camerata, Wanta, New York, aside from the big, beautiful bill,
Starting point is 00:08:28 why aren't Republicans putting forth more legislation to codify President Trump's executive orders because if a Democrat is elected, those executive orders will vanish? You need 60 votes in the Senate to get legislation passed. That's what the filibuster is all about. It's hard. But they should at least be putting forth some vision
Starting point is 00:08:49 of health care. Kate's law, I'm waiting. You know, they need to get on it, the Republicans. In a moment, something you might not know. Throughout his life, the revolutionary led the island of Cuba from relative prosperity into poverty and repression.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Here is the story of Fidel Castro. Born in eastern Cuba to a wealthy family, the young Marxist orchestrated numerous attempts to overthrow the American-backed Cuban government. On January 7, 1959, Castro and his guerrilla fighters deposed the heinous dictator, Fulgencio Batista,
Starting point is 00:10:13 who then fled to Europe. Six months later, Castro ruled the island with absolute power. His regime hunted down, political opponents, journalists, capitalists. The dictator confiscated all private property. Even the Cuban constitution was changed to say that free speech was only allowed if, quote, it is in keeping with the objectives of a socialist society. In total, 100,000 human beings died trying to flee Castro's revolution, most of them drowning at sea.
Starting point is 00:10:52 10,000 Cubans were executed by firing squads, 2,000 assassinated in their homes. Fidel announced his retirement in 2008, and on November 25, 2016, the dictator died in the capital city of Havana. No cause of death was ever given. He was 90 years old. Unfortunately, for the Cuban people, Castro's policies remain in effect. The state mandated salary is less than a dollar a day. No internet access. The government issues rations for items like milk, eggs, and fuel. Apartments are allocated by the Communist Party. And here's something else you might not know. Despite his savagery, some Americans still revere Castro. One admirer, Senator Bernie Sanders, said the Socialist during the 2020 campaign, quote,
Starting point is 00:11:51 Castro taught a lot of people to read and write. I think that's a good thing. True, Fidel taught the farmers had to read, but they were only allowed access to one book, the Communist Manifesto. Back in a moment. Get no frills delivered.
