Starting point is 00:00:44 Food stamps extended. New White House website, military operations in Mexico, and election day is today. That's all coming up. Then Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, today, we are tied for the longest shutdown in American history. 35 days. This was last done in end of 2018 to early 2019. The administration has figured out how to give 50% of normal SNAP benefits through some contingency funds. The Trump administration faced the option of using child nutrition program money to allocate the benefits. But the USDA said that those funds should remain available to protect full operation of child nutrition programs throughout the year. A warning on the USDA website says that Senate Democrats have voted more than a dozen times.
Starting point is 00:01:28 to keep the government shut down going and thereby not fund the food stamp program. Side note, the Census Bureau's survey of income and program participation shows that 47% of immigrant households with children under the age of six receive snap or WIC or both. 31% of Native-born American headed households with young children receive SNAP or WIC or both. The White House launched a new website exposing criminal, illegal aliens who have received Medicaid. This includes murderers, rapist, and burglars. The website features their mugshots. Then it lists the crime that they were arrested for, their country of origin. These are all illegal aliens. And then it says received Medicaid just above their mugshot, even though we've been
Starting point is 00:02:14 told that illegal aliens don't receive any money from programs like this. The website is whitehouse.gov slash criminals. NBC News is reporting that the administration is planning a new mission in Mexico against the cartels, including troops on the ground. This would involve striking drug labs and cartel leaders. Sources say the training has begun, but the attack is not imminent. Under this new mission being planned, U.S. troops of Mexico would mainly use drone strikes to hit drug labs and the cartel members and leaders. And some of these strikes would require operators to be on the ground to use them effectively and safely. In February, the State Department designated six Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. This gives
Starting point is 00:02:56 U.S. spy agencies and our military, a whole new level of legal authority to conduct espionage and covert operations targeting these networks. It is Election Day across the country today. Go vote. These off-year elections, it's all about turnout. Some notable races across the country. On this Tuesday, did you see the 60 Minutes interview with Donald Trump on Sunday night? Not much new there. I didn't learn anything, but I'm kind of jaded being in the journalism business for 50 years. So, in my opinion, Nora O'Donnell, the CBS correspondent, asked predictable questions, which Mr. Trump swatted away.
Starting point is 00:04:23 like annoying bugs. Very little research behind Ms. O'Donnell's line of inquiry. The government shut down. It's Trump's fault. ICE overdoes it. People will suffer if Obamacare is not extended.
Starting point is 00:04:37 The usual liberal media stuff. For his part, the president relied on well-worn answers because the questions were predictable. He knew they were coming. He didn't break a sweat. The way you have to interview
Starting point is 00:04:51 Donald Trump and most other presidents is to set up specific situations. Example, when I asked Mr. Trump about how he would deal with a killer like Putin, you have to keep the questioning short and provocative, fact-based, like how do you know the boats the U.S. are blowing up in the Caribbean and Pacific are drug involved? Ms. O'Donnell is a true believer in the liberal cause. I know her. She's not corrupt, like many of her network peers, but she doesn't think outside the establishment box.
Starting point is 00:05:30 That was obvious Sunday night. If you learn something, let me know. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Name in town if you wish to opine. The mail. Noveson, Claremont, Florida. Bill, Senator Schumer and Democrats have clearly demonstrated what can happen when you depend on the government for your existence. When they have power, they can take it away. This is the reality of socialism. That's right. The government has power over you. You're screwed. James. On the message board, James is a premium member. I don't know if it's a good idea to get rid of the filibuster, like President Trump is suggesting. It's not, because if the Republicans get rid of the filibuster, if the Democrats take over the Senate, they'll pack the Supreme Court.
Starting point is 00:06:37 They'll pass all kinds of crazy far-left laws. Not. It's a good idea. Mike Dan Kona, new AAA Pennsylvania, I'm a bit confused. who exactly does the United States owe $38 trillion to? Well, to people who buy savings bonds, U.S. securities, there's a variety of ways you can invest in the United States of America. People all over the world do it because we've always paid off.
Starting point is 00:07:08 If we don't pay off, our economy is over. And then there's unfunded liabilities. That means that we borrowed the money and we say, ah, we'll pay it back. five years, but we're going to the money pay it back. Very dicey out there. My good question. Teresa Tierney, Bloomington, Minnesota. Would you think the increase in food stamps over the past four years is due to supply and demand? America's feeding 16 to 20 million more people because of illegal immigration demand has to be up. That's not it. It's easier to get on the entitlement train now. That's it. Made it very easy.

The standoff lasted for a staggering
Starting point is 00:08:40 444 days, demoralized the entire country, and destroyed the presidency of Jimmy Carter. Here's the story of the Iranian hostage crisis. President Carter was sworn into office January, 1977. Four months after that, the nation plunged into an energy crisis. There were gas lines. The world descended into chaos. Islamic fundamentalists under the command of the Ayatollah Khomeini seized control of Iran. On November 4th, 1979, a group of radical students ransacked the U.S. Embassy, taking 66 hostages. 14 were immediately released, mostly because they were either African-American or dual citizens with Iran. But 52 Americans, including nine Marines, remained in captivity.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Back in Washington, President Carter didn't know what to do. Under intense pressure from the public, Carter finally authorized Operation Eagle Claw. A mission to rescue the hostages using eight U.S. helicopters. Eagle Claw was a total disaster. Two choppers failed to take off. Another was deemed unfit for service. One helicopter collided with a cargo plane, killing eight Americans. Carter had to abort the mission.
Starting point is 00:10:07 After the botched operation, the hostages were scattered around Iran to thwart any further rescue attempts. Back home, Jimmy Carter's presidency was in ruin. After taking office, a Democrats' approval rating was about 77%. Four years later, it had fallen to 28%. In November 1980, the nation elected Ronald Reagan in a landslide. The Republican won 44 states, 51% of the popular vote, and an electoral count of 489 to just 44 for Carter. And here's something else you might not know.
Starting point is 00:10:46 The Iranian crisis finally ended on January 20th, 1981. The hostages were released minutes after President Reagan was sworn into office.
