Starting point is 00:00:00 Phil O'Reilly here Friday, November 8th, 2019. You are listening to the O'Reilly Update. Here's what's happening today in America. The media already trying to handicap the 2020 presidential election with a focus largely on national polling. But as 2016 showed, those surveys are notoriously unreliable, especially this early in the race. Ultimately, the election, of course, will be decided by a handful of swing states. Here are the ones to keep an eye on. First up, Arizona, the last time Arizona went for a Democrat was 1996 when it voted to re-elect Bill Clinton. Donald Trump won the state's 11 electoral votes in 2016 by just four points. Florida might be the most influential state in the Union because it is the most notorious presidential
Starting point is 00:00:58 battleground. You'll remember in the year 2000, the recount debacle, which ended up in the Supreme Court. The Sunshine State awarded its 29 electoral votes twice to George W. Bush and twice to Barack Obama. It narrowly went for Trump last time around. Michigan. President Trump was the first Republican to win the state since George Bush, the elder in 1988. If the manufacturing sector continues to grow, President Trump has a good shot of winning Michigan again in 2020. North Carolina's 15 electoral votes also up for grabs. State has been reliably Republican since the mid-60s, with the exception of Jimmy Carter in 1976 and Barack Obama in 2008. The left is hoping the high turnout in cities like Charlotte will push North Carolina into the
Starting point is 00:01:57 Democratic column. To Ohio, a state President Trump won by eight points, the largest margins since Bush Sr. beat Michael Dukakis by 11 points in 1988. The last Democrat to win the presidency without Ohio? John F. Kennedy. Pennsylvania's 20 electoral votes, another big prize. Donald Trump became the first Republican to win that state since 1988. The Democrats' radical environmental agenda, not likely to resonate with energy workers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Finally, Wisconsin, Donald Trump was the first Republican to win there since Ronald Reagan, a shocker since every single poll at Hillary Clinton winning big in Wisconsin. With a new Democratic governor, the party has a good shot at reclaiming the state in 2020.
Starting point is 00:02:49 Coming up, my message of the day, is your. your mind made up already about the presidential election of 2020 moments away. Finding a good real estate agent who understands your needs can be incredibly difficult. My friend Glenn Beck started the service real estate agents, I trust.com to make sure you get connected with agents who are ambitious and have a long and successful track record. They're agents who are experts in your town and do business like you with your values. I heard a story of a family whose home had been on the market for more than a year, and they were
Starting point is 00:03:26 facing a difficult scenario of what to do next. They learned about real estate agents I trust, and after contact, a real estate agent was able to go in, make some changes to the house, and then sold the house within three weeks. This is why I endorse real estate agents.com. No pinheads, just great agents. I wouldn't hesitate to use real estate agents. I trust if I were going to sell my home. So get moving today with real estate agents. itrust.com. Time now for the O'Reilly Update. Message of the day is your mind already made up. All Americans will endure 12 months of presidential campaigning. It began two months ago. This week, President Trump traveled to Louisiana, which is a state that will most likely go for him.
Starting point is 00:04:21 in 2020. Mr. Trump was in full campaign mode, slamming Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren, the only two Democratic candidates that really have a chance to challenge him. A new poll this week from Monmouth College on Trump supporters says this, quote, President Donald Trump's approval rating remains stable as the impeachment inquiry intensifies, with evidence that both sides of opinion are digging in, unquote. Sixty-two percent of folks who supported President Trump say there would be nothing the Commander-in-Chief could do to change their minds in the next election. Seventy percent of folks who do not approve of the president's job performance say there is nothing he could do to get their support. So, 62 percent will
Starting point is 00:05:21 vote for him, and 70% will not, depending on who they voted for last time around. You're not going to change anybody's minds. Now, in January 2016, Donald Trump said, quote, I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any votes. Well, that's not exactly true. If there is a big revelation that goes against Donald Trump, he will lose votes. But overall, most Americans are entrenched. They either love the president or they despise the president. Right now, the polls say 43 percent approve of Donald Trump's performance in office, 51 percent disapprove. Fifty-one percent say President Trump should not be impeached and removed from office. So the president has a good chance to be reelected if the Democrats overplay the impeachment,
Starting point is 00:06:19 and nominate a person that is unacceptable to independent voters. That would be Elizabeth Warren. Now, I have predicted Joe Biden will get the Democratic nomination, even though Mr. Biden has had his troubles and has been exposed as doing, let's say, dubious things in Ukraine while vice president involving his son Hunter. Joe Biden is still acceptable to moderate Democrats and some independence, while Senator Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts is a radical leftist. She wants to change the entire economy. But the economy is doing well. Therefore, Elizabeth Warren, if she gets the nomination, is going to have a very tough economic wind in her face to convince independent, and moderate Democrats that we should change from capitalism, the quasi-socialism. Also, Elizabeth Warren would fire a whole bunch of energy workers, medical workers.
Starting point is 00:07:30 All these people would be on the beach, no jobs. So, in the upcoming campaign, it is still up for grabs, no question. And that's a message. Please check out my latest book, The United States of Trump. We posted an excerpt on bill o'Reilly.com. Up next something you might. Not known. Bill O'Reilly here with an important message.

Americans are known around the world as very hard workers, on average, full-time employees in the USA, dedicate 47 hours a week to the job, making American adults the most productive people on the planet. But we also know the value of leisure. So how are Americans spending time off? With personal devices, the machines. The average U.S. adult will spend three hours, 45 minutes a day on their smartphones. Our TV's also get a workout. We look at the boob tube for three and a half hours every single day.
Starting point is 00:09:41 Fortunately, Americans haven't forgotten about the joys of non-digital hobbies. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 100 million Americans participate in wildlife recreation, hunting, fishing, even birdwatching. Americans also enjoy exercising their Second Amendment rights. About 50 million of us go target shooting at least once a year. For some perspective, that's more people and play soccer, tennis, or baseball. Shooting enthusiasts prefer handguns over rifles and shotguns. If you are not into the outdoors, there's a good chance you might be enjoying a few frames at the local bowling alley. Bowling! The most popular participation sport in the USA.
Starting point is 00:10:29 67 million folks hit the lane. at least once a year. But if you don't like the lanes, how about the links? Estimated 24 million Americans went golfing last year on one of the 15,000 courses around the country, with another 9 million enjoying time at the driving range. I prefer miniature golf myself. That windmill never defeats me. The newest activity on the list, poker. 10%. of U.S. adults play poker on a regular basis, generating 1.9 billion per year. And that's just the legal games of poker. We don't want to even think about the illegal. So next time you're thinking about turning on the TV or endlessly shuffling through YouTube videos,
Starting point is 00:11:23 remember there's a whole world out there that does not involve a touchscreen. The O'Reilly Update will be right back. It's an uncertain world out there. You know that.
