Bill O'Reilly here. Tuesday, October 13th, 2020. You are listening to the O'Reilly update. Here's what's happening across our nation. President Trump returns to the campaign trail. American air travel down 70% compared to last year. Walmart deploys drones to deliver COVID tests. The NBA championship officially, the least watched in history.
Americans will consume 80,000 hours of TV in our lifetimes. Also, I had big trouble ahead for the media.
But first, the president holding a campaign rally in Florida last night, his first stop since contracting COVID 10 days ago.
White House doctors say Mr. Trump is no longer infectious to others and is now testing negative for the disease.
latest polls show the president and Joe Biden in a statistical heat, dead heat, in the Sunshine State.
The U.S. airline industry struggling to lure back frequent flyers during the pandemic.
Travel down 70% compared to the same period last year, polls show a majority of Americans refuse to fly until a vaccine is developed.
Health experts estimate the odds of contracting COVID on a plane.
1 out of 4,000. Walmart, now using aerial drones to deliver COVID tests to people's homes.
The new system will drop the kits at your front door, wait 30 minutes for you to use a nasal swab,
then fly the samples back to a lab for testing. Trials started in Las Vegas last month and will now
be deployed in upstate New York and North Carolina.
Just 5.5 million people tuned in to see LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Miami Heat,
making the series the least watched NBA finals ever recorded by comparison.
Last year's big game between the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors delivered 19 million viewers.
Many Americans do not like the political bent.
of the NBA. That's why that happened. Recent study says the average adult will consume nearly 80,000
hours of TV and movies during their lifetimes. The survey commissioned by TV manufacturer LG Electronics
finds people watch 1,200 hours of programming each year. That number is expected to rise sharply
during the pandemic.
It might be better to read a book, especially mine.
In a moment, bad news coming for the news agencies.
Right back with it.
Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress.
National debt rising, trade war, shaking the markets.
And meanwhile, China is dumping the dollar and stockpiling gold.
That's why I protected my savings with physical gold and silver.

Time now for the O'Reilly Update.
Message of the day, big trouble, and I mean big trouble, ahead for the American media.
So AT&T owns CNN and Warner Media.
That's HBO, Warner Brothers Pictures, on like that.
Well, AT&T is laying off 600 people at HBO,
and that's just the first round of firings.
At CNN, you can expect a wipeout after the election.
Disney owns ABC,
fired 28,000 employees in California and Florida at the theme parks, and now the company is focusing
on its media operations. Disney-owned ESPN is set to lay off at least 700 employees as that
sports network dissolves. Why? Because of its liberal politics. And ABC's got trouble everywhere.
The View, anyone? NBC, that's Comcast, eliminating 3,500 jobs, 10% of its staff. Fox News recently
fired 3% of its workforce. Vox Media laid off 6% of its staff. The executive director of the New York
Times predicts most local newspapers will be out of business gone within the next five years.
since President Trump's inauguration in January 2017, ratings are down at MSNBC, NBC News, ABC News, CBS News, CNN has seen a 17% drop since 2016.
So why is all this happening? Well, the news agencies have lost the trust of the American people because of their anti- or pro-Trump programming.
Folks who watch the news want honest information, not propaganda, but the money is easy
in the hate Trump or love Trump precincts, because people will go in to watch that stuff
far more than if you are fair and balanced. However, once the election this November is
over what's going to happen. If Donald Trump loses, he's off the stage. And all of the viewers
who tune in for him, and that's 95% of the Fox News Channel, all of them are going to have
to say, do I want to watch Joe Biden? And if the converse is true, and Trump wins, there's no more
drama. Yes, yes, the left-wing press will continue to hammer him. But it won't.
matter. It's got four more years. So all of the TV news agencies are looking at Armageddon,
and they know it because they have to sell their advertising in advance. And after the election,
that's going to go down hard. So thousands and thousands of people are going to be laid off
by the corporate news agencies. And not only that, viewership is going to go through,
the floor, not the roof. My prediction, take it to the bank. I'm Bill O'Reilly, and I approve
that message by actually writing it. Disagree, I want to hear from you. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com,

big bestseller. In a moment, something you might not know.

Now the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might not know.
This month marks the 60th anniversary of Fidel Castro's brutal communist crackdown in Cuba,
starting a 50-year reign of terror that would leave tens of thousands of people dead.
The story starts a few years earlier.
Fidel and his rebels seized control of Cuba in January.
1959, after a guerrilla war against Cuban President Batista. By October 1960, Castro consolidated power
and ruled the island nation unopposed. His regime hunted down, political opponents, journalists,
the wealthy, the religious, and land owners. The dictator immediately eliminated personal freedoms
to promote the party's communist ideology. Even the Cuban Constitution says free speech is only
allowed if, quote, it's in keeping with the objectives of a socialist society.
10,000 people were murdered in the aftermath of the communist revolution in Cuba.
78,000 died trying to flee the Marxist state, most at sea. Historians believe at least 5,600 Cubans
died in front of firing squads.
2,000 by assassination.
Another 80,000 perished in Castro's foreign wars,
including campaigns in Latin America and Southern Africa.
While the rest of the Americas mostly prospered
throughout the late 20th century,
Cuba's communist policies caused poverty
for the country's 11 million people.
State-mandated salaries amounted to less than a dollar a day,
day. To this day, government restrictions limit internet access for all citizens and food shortages
occur daily. All Fidel announced his retirement in 2008, handing over control to his brother
Raoul. Fidel Castro died in November 2016 at the age of 90. And here's something else you
might not know. Despite his brutal crackdown on personal freedoms, Castro's ideas are becoming popular
among some younger Americans. Recent poll of U.S. college students shows 40 percent
favor socialism over capitalism. Even Senator Bernie Sanders offered kind words to Castro
during the Democratic primaries, praising his, quote, mass literacy program. Back after this.
