Starting point is 00:00:26 Here's what's happening this week in America. Terrorist dead. Lebanese, TPS, hurricane damage, and Kamala, the plagiarizer. It's all coming up, then Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, Israel has killed the leader of Hamas. I'm sure the mainstream media somewhere has a headline about the austere religious scholar, but he's also the chief architect of Hamas's October 7, 2023, terrorist attack. The Israeli prime minister, Netanyahu said it marked the beginning of the day after Hamas.
Starting point is 00:00:56 And he called for a release of the hostages that are still held in Gaza. The IDF released some really surreal video from a drone flying in a bombed out building with Sinwar, the terrorist, alone, sitting on a couch. And then he casually throws a stick at the drone. And these were his final moments alive. Israel has been trying to get Sinwar since he was released from an Israeli prison in 2011 and then rose the ranks of Hamas. Israel bombed his house in 2021. He survived and defiantly walked through Gaza streets after the miss. Kamala Harris said this is an opportunity to find finally end the war in Gaza. The Biden-Harris administration announced that Lebanese nationals
Starting point is 00:01:34 living in the United States will be given temporary protected status. So these people will be able to legally stay here for 18 months, but then it can be renewed after that and then renewed and renewed and renewed, sort of like it has been renewed for the Haitians who came to America after the earthquake in 2010. How much of this is a nod to Muslim Americans in Michigan, a voting block that Kamala is not doing well with 17 days before the election. The property damage from Hurricane Milton in Florida could reach $34 billion. That's just the hurricane, not the at least nine tornadoes that were with the storm as well, a storm that killed 24 people across Florida.
Starting point is 00:02:11 Hurricane Helene have losses of 47.5 billion. Both of these are in the top 10 costliest storms in American history. It has been discovered that Kamala Harris plagiarized major portions of her book from 2009. The book's called Smart on Crime, a career prosecutor's plan, to make us safer. And their very reluctant coverage of this, the New York Times called a plagiarism expert to analyze the accusations. And this expert said, oh, it's not that big of a deal. But that same guy has now come out and said the New York Times deliberately withheld the full claims made against her. And he admitted, yes, the plagiarism is more serious than he originally told the Times.
Starting point is 00:02:50 As Chris Rufo said, ABC does fact checks to help Kamala, CBS stealth edits an interview to help Kamala, and the New York Times withholds evidence to help Kamala. What else would they do in these next 17 days. I'm Mike Slater. I'm Bill O'Reilly with your message of the day. Next. Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress. We live in a country where we love to blame other people for stuff. I guess it's human nature. I've lived in Great Britain.
Starting point is 00:04:26 I've traveled the world, 86 countries, but I've never seen a culture so wrapped up in the blame game as the United States of America. It's almost as if it's in our DNA, and it started in the Revolutionary War. We blame the King of England for all the bad stuff in the colonies, and we booted him out of here. Then as our country unfolded, we blame minorities, we blame Native Americans, on and on and on, and we blamed each other in a civil war. So historically, the blame game has been consistent. Now, that's not good. In politics, I understand it.
Starting point is 00:05:16 Each party is going to blame the other for failures. That's nothing new, and it will never. change. The hurricane, Milton, is a great example. So the Republicans are blaming the Biden administration, Kamala Harris, for the failure of FEMA to act quickly enough. And the Republicans are saying, oh, Biden doesn't know what he's doing, and nobody showed up in Asheville, North Carolina, on and on and on and on. And people believe what they want to believe. So wherever you are, that's where you believe. The good course of life, be fair. Evaluate all the facts. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at Bill o'Reilly.com.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Name in town if you wish to opine. Now let's go to the mail. Linda Meet, Chicago. You mentioned on your October 8th show, there are 800,000 fewer Americans on the job this year than last year, Is this due to retirements, people not working or receiving welfare? I don't know. You won't know until the census comes out. The fact is that even with job growth in America, which is happening, 800,000 American-born workers are not on the job and they were a year ago. But why?
Starting point is 00:06:45 That's only the Census Bureau could find that out. I don't know when the next census is, but I think it comes up in two weeks. I think it comes up in two or three years. David Concierge member, unlike Barack Obama, President Theodore Roosevelt actually accomplished something very significant to win the Nobel Peace Prize, a treaty to end the fighting between Russia and Japan. Absolutely correct. And I assume you read Confronting the Presidents because we ranked Teddy Roosevelt very high.
Starting point is 00:07:12 Now, again, I don't rank them one, two, three, four, five, but you know how I'm feeling about them confronting the Presidents, but you are absolutely right. I shiver at Chaplain, South Carolina. My book club is reading Killing the Witches. I'm hosting the discussion. What questions do you recommend we discuss? You know what the big thing on killing the witches is? How that horror in Salem, Massachusetts, and you know, if you go there in October, it's Bedlam up in Salem. I mean, that's the witch and Halloween and all of that. But how that was absorbed by Benjamin Franklin, who lived in Boston as a young man, He knew what was happening.
Starting point is 00:07:52 And he, in the rest of his life, did not want this country to be based on theology. That's the most important part of that book. So I'm glad you guys are reading it and discussing it. In a moment, something you might not know. Power, politics, and the people behind the headlines. I'm Miranda Devine, New York Post columnist, and the host. of the brand new podcast, Podforce One. Every week I'll sit down for candid conversations
Starting point is 00:08:26 with Washington's most powerful disruptors, lawmakers, lawmakers, and even the president of the United States. These are the leaders shaping the future of America and the world. Listen to Podforce One with me, Miranda Devine, every week on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcast. You don't want to miss an episode. Now, the O'Reilly update brings you something you might not know. It's been a rough year for fans of the Cheddar Bay Biscuit and All You Can Eat Shrimp.
Starting point is 00:09:03 In May, popular seafood chain Red Lobster declared bankruptcy in federal court. The franchise is not alone. In the last decade, several major companies have filed for Chapter 11. Here are some examples. Toys are Us. went out of business in 2017. Executives blaming the closure on real estate costs and people buying toys online. Sears, J.C. Penny, also declared bankruptcy in 2018, citing changing consumer preferences
Starting point is 00:09:36 and cheaper alternatives at Amazon and Walmart. COVID closed a record number of businesses during the pandemic, including Hertz rental car, Brooks Brothers, California Pizza Kitchen. and the paper store. And the economic downturn continues today. The end is likely near for AMC movie theaters, foot locker, right aid. According to data from the U.S. Commerce Department, more than 60,000 companies have gone bankrupt since 2014, eliminating 2.2 million jobs in the workforce.
Starting point is 00:10:17 And here's something else. might not know. Contrary to popular belief, filing for Chapter 11 doesn't mean a business will disappear. The law allows a company to restructure debt, continue operations. It opens new avenues for credit and potential buyouts. If that fails, owners file Chapter 7, which authorizes the liquidation of assets and sale of properties. One positive example is Red Lobster. Last month, the federal court approved the restaurant's sale to an investment group for $500 million. Seafood fans will continue to enjoy food at the chain's 600 locations across the USA, at least for now. You might not want to eat so much shrimp if you like the restaurant.
Starting point is 00:11:08 Anyway, in total, Red Lobster sells 45 million pounds of shellfish every year. back after this.
