Starting point is 00:00:00 Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the O'Reilly Update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thank you, Bill. It is Friday, October 6th, 2020. Here's what's happening today. In America, airplane crash, rates tick higher, another dog gone, and the Airbnb guest from hell.
Starting point is 00:00:26 It's all coming up. Then Bill will be here with your message of the day, but first day, FedEx. airplane crashed at the Chattanooga airport. The plane had landing gear failure during its final approach. It circled the airport a few times, but had to come down eventually. Crash landed, skidded off the runway into the grass. No fire occurred, and the three people on the plane were uninjured. About 45% of air freight is transported at the bottom of passenger planes, and the rest are cargo planes that no one ever thinks about. But the FedEx Hub in Memphis is the largest cargo airport
Starting point is 00:00:57 in the world and an awesome place to take a tour it's like that scene with all the doors from monsters ink but in real life mortgage rates hit 7.49% up from 7.31 last week two years ago rates were two is of course hurting home sales fewer people can afford to buy a home with those rates but people aren't even selling over 90% of homeowners have mortgage rates under 6% so people are reluctant to put their home for sale. Supply is low, which is keeping the prices high. Joe Biden's dog, a German shepherd, has officially been booted from the White House. It keeps biting people. What the world's going on? The First Ladies, Communications Director said, they remain grateful for the patience and support
Starting point is 00:01:45 of the U.S. Secret Service and all involved as they continue to work through solutions. Why are they thankful for the patients of the Secret Service? Because that's who the dog kept biting. Secret Service agents. Last week, we mentioned the 11th biting. Well, now there's been a 12th. And this is the second dog that's been kicked out of the White House. What in the world is going on there? We have an Airbnb guest from hell story, Los Angeles, six-month rental of a guest house.
Starting point is 00:02:12 The rental agreement ended 18 months ago the person hasn't left. And a judge just ruled that the squatter can't be evicted. And to make it worse, the squatter claims that the homeowner started construction outside. So fumes and other odors went into the guesthouse. She claims the owner played music all night long, placed rotting trash at her front door, shut off the hot water, padlocked the mailbox, and unlawfully entered the unit, her own unit, which led to a breach in the quiet enjoyment of her home. So she's countersuing. She claims that the homeowner owes her money. And the judge again ruled that this person cannot be evicted under California law. Reason 10 million
Starting point is 00:02:53 why California is such a ridiculous state. I'm Mike Slater. Bill O'Reilly, the author of Killing the Witches, with your message today. Next. Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress. National debt rising, trade war, shaking the markets. And meanwhile, China is dumping the dollar and stockpiling gold. That's why I protected my savings with physical gold and silver. Tharu, the only dealer I trust, American Hartford Gold.

Starting point is 00:04:08 Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day. On this Friday, I was on News Nation earlier this week with Chris Cuomo, and he had a segment with Senator Manchin of West Virginia, and both Cuomo and Manchin agree. that Congress uses division in the USA to further discord, that the angrier people get on both the right and the left, the better it is for politicians. I think that's true to some extent. But then Manchin and Cuomo went further, and they said they don't think there's that much division among the folks in America. Wrong. Right now, we are more divided in this country than at any other time since the Civil War. And the reason is the far left controls President Biden
Starting point is 00:05:14 and the Democratic Party. And traditional conservative Americans are appalled at the open border, at not punishing criminals, at sky high inflation for necessities, at cancer culture, at woke, at diminishing parental rights, I could go on and on and on and on. People are teed off in the traditional precincts. That is a fact, but Cuomo and Mansion do not see it. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at Bill o'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill o'Reilly.com. Name in town if you wish to opine. Now let's go to the mail. Jeff Federico Coventry Road Island
Starting point is 00:06:10 Hey Bill why don't you have Tony Bobbalinski on your program because he's been interviewed before he said what he's going to say why would I want him to say the same thing okay I mean I wasn't there I don't know what Bobbalinsky and Hunter Biden did with Joe Biden so I can't challenge you know you can't do an interview unless you know what happened and I don't
Starting point is 00:06:32 now Bobelinski's going to go before the House impeachment inquiry, I understand. And maybe if he says something different, then I would have a basis of an interview. But, you know, just don't put people on to spout what we already know. Roberta Stennelan, Jaten, Texas. Gavinism has a lot of gall searching out of state for the perfect black lesbian to take Feinstein's office. Because blacks are a very small percentage of California. Why not Hispanics? why not the best qualified person whether it's black straight lesbian Hispanic Asian or white why don't we know that no because we have to have equity we have to have you know preferences
Starting point is 00:07:23 Beverly Baldsell Portland Oregon who has increased the national debt more Trump or Biden Biden. But Trump was a big spender. No doubt about it. Frank Adams, Germantown, Tennessee. Bill, I picked up killing the witches yesterday, finished it just now. You and Martin Dugard did an excellent job of bringing history to life. Well, we always do, don't we? I think so. 13 killing books, the most successful non-fiction book series in the world on the planet. Boy, I want to think about that. It's just mind-moggling. In a moment, something you might not know. Power, politics, and the people behind the headlines.

Starting point is 00:08:48 Now the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might not know. 27 years ago today, President Bill Clinton faced Republican challenger Bob Dole in their first debate. Here is the story. The 1996 campaign is considered mundane by moderate standards. The two candidates frequently praised one another, though they squabbled over differences on taxation, military spending, entitlement programs. The first debate took place October 6, 1996 in Hartford, Connecticut. President Clinton took credit for improving the economy and slashing the deficit.
Starting point is 00:09:28 Joel questioned his record on crime, proposed a massive tax cut of $550 billion. The only personal attack came when the Republican challenged Clinton's admitted use of marijuana in his youth. Mr. President, the Senator mentioned drugs. He's suggested in the past that you are, you bear some responsibility for the rise in drug use of teenagers in the United States. Is he right? Well, Jim, I think every American in any position of responsibility should be concerned about what's happened. I am.
Starting point is 00:10:06 But let's look at the overall record. Overall in America, cocaine use has dropped 30 percent in the last four years, casual drug use down 13 percent. The tragedy is that our young people are still increasing their use of drugs, up to about 11 percent total with marijuana. And I regret it. Let me tell you what I've tried to do about it. I appointed a four-star general who led our efforts south of the border to keep drugs
Starting point is 00:10:30 from coming into the country, as our nation's drugs are, the most heavily directed, decorated soldier in uniform when he retired. We submitted the biggest drug budget ever. We have dramatically increased control and enforcement at the border. We supported a crime bill that had 60 death penalties, including the death penalty for drug kingpins. And I supported a big expansion in safe and drug-free schools programs to support things like the DARE program.
Starting point is 00:10:56 After the debates, Clinton easily defeated Dole, 379 electoral votes to 159. The Democrat won a popular vote by 10 points, and here's something else you might not know. The Clinton Dole campaign will go down as one of the most civil in U.S. history. Just a few days before his second inauguration, Clinton honored his former rival with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Back after this.
