Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the O'Reilly update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater.
Thank you, Bill. It is Monday, October 9th, 2023. Here's what's happening today in America. Israel at war.
Democratic socialists back Palestine. Voters trust in government falls to an all-time low,
and nine and ten families pile of credit card debt to cope with inflation. That's all coming up.
then Bill will be here with your message of the day, but first,
over 700 Israelis are dead, another 3,000 wounded after Hamas attacked cities across Israel.
Reports say the terror group has abducted over 100 hostages before returning to Gaza.
This, of course, making it more difficult for Israel to retaliate.
Many of the hostages were at a music festival for peace.
The $1 billion iron dome system in Israel couldn't keep up with the thousands of rockets that were coming in,
and the Israeli security cabinet officially declared war for the first time in 50 years.
The assault took place on the anniversary of the 1973 war
in which Arab nations bombed the Jewish state on the holy day of Yom Kippur.
Back here in the U.S., the Democratic Socialists of America,
that's the political party of AOC, Bernie Sanders, Elon Omar, and Rashida Talib.
They've organized a protest in New York City on behalf of the Palestinians.
The group publicized the event on social media, quote,
solidarity with the Palestinian people and their right to resist 75 years of occupation
and apartheid.
Congresswoman Corey Bush blamed the attack on America's military support for the Jewish state.
A poll from Pew finds just 20% of adults trust the government to do the right thing.
That's down from 77% in 1969, 77% down to 20.
Two-thirds say politicians go to Washington to serve their own interest.
Only 6% think our leaders are careful.
careful with taxpayer dollars.
78% believe the country
is moving in the wrong direction.
And the unhappy voters mostly blamed
Joe Biden for the state of the nation.
Inflation hurting
Americans' new data from Citibank
shows 90% of Americans carry
credit card debt every single month
because of high prices. Only
10% of adults have a zero
balance. The average family
owes $8,000
to the banks.
A third of Americans have drained
to their savings account completely since COVID hit three years ago. And 25% of Americans live
within $100 of their maximum credit card limit. I'm Mike Slater from the podcast, Politics
by Faith. Bill O'Reilly will be back with your very important message of the day. Next.
Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress. National debt rising, trade war,
shaking the markets. And meanwhile, China is dumping the dollar.

Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day.
On this Monday, there are big changes happening in American society, and some of us are very worried about the direction the country is taking.
What is happening is that people are withdrawing into their own private worlds, and that's made easy by technology.
You know that.
And you got your computer, you got your smartphone, you got YouTube and this and that, and
and diversions all day long.
So you really don't have to live in the real world if you do not want to.
You do have to make a living.
You have to go to work and get enough money to buy food and to have a place to sleep.
But in your leisure time, you don't have to deal with anybody face-to-face if you don't want to.
You can do it all by the machines.
And what this does is it sets up an insensitivity to the place.
of other people. So it used to be that every neighborhood in the country, everybody knew each other,
they helped each other, there were friends, strong bonds, somebody dies, everybody comes in
and helps the family, a kid's in trouble, neighbors tell the parents about the kid in trouble.
All of that coordination went on in America. That's traditional America. It's gone now in many
places. And the small towns, you have a remnant of it, but in the big cities, it's very
vanished. So isolation is not good for a human being on any level. And these machines are robbing us
somewhat of our American pride. It's something to think about. Interact with other people as much
as you can. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at

them anymore.
I also tried Foxes for a while, but their ideas were too far out there.
Okay, that's why people are coming to us.
They're not getting what they want on cable news.
Jeffrey, Bill, what CNN did was vile, thanks for bringing it to our attention.
I hope you get even with them.
I don't want to get even with them.
I want to expose them.
not an honest agency anymore. Simply not. And I provide all a backup for that in the column
that's posted on Bill O'Reilly.com. Sean Wayland, Pineville, North Carolina. I was hoping CNN would
change for the better when Discovery took over the company. Well, it looks like CNN has not changed.
The same old place has been for several years in business for the Democrats. I think that's
accurate. I think that's accurate. They're in business to help the Democratic progressive movement.
In my mind, Brenda Clark, the Woodlands, Texas, last night's interview with Tucker Carlson, was informative.
Thank you for doing it.
It's why I became a member the very first week you're in business.
Well, thank you, Brenda.
That's so nice of you.
You were open and personable, it was informable, and fun to watch.
That's what we try to do.
We want you to have information, but we make it fun.
That's like killing the witches.
We're going to get an awful lot of information out of that, but it's fun.
Great Halloween books.

Now the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might not know.
Today is Columbus Day in the USA.
Well, parts of it anyway,
13 states have banished Columbus Day.
However, the Italian explorer is widely acknowledged
as the first European to formally discover
the New World. The Vikings floated around, but nothing was made official. Recent polling says
half of Americans do not know the true story behind Columbus's discoveries. Here's how the voyage
of Chris really went down. After working as a sailor, Columbus believed he knew a better route to Asia
to reach the Far East, sail west. He lobbied monarchs across Europe, finally securing money from
the Spanish crown. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella agreed to finance the trip, offering Columbus
the title of governor for any territory he discovered along the way. In 1492, the 41-year-old
captain set sail with a crew of 90 men. Five weeks later, they made landfall on an island in the
Caribbean. It was named San Salvador.
is now in the Bahamas chain. At first, Europeans thought they were in Japan. Writing about the
Carib Indians he encountered, Columbus said, quote, these men wherever they are from ought to make good
servants, for they repeat very quickly whatever we say to them, unquote. In 1493, Chris returned to
Spain, he was granted the title of Admiral of the Oceans. During his lifetime, Columbus
led three more expeditions to the New World, but he never accomplished getting a Western
route to Asia. Chris died in 1506 at the age of 55. Historians believe he likely perish from
arthritis. And here's something else you might not know. Columbus obviously is not as popular as
he wants was. According to a poll published by Newsweek, 80% of Americans under the age of 30 want to
ditch Columbus Day for Indigenous People's Day. The swap would end the annual celebration that dates
all the way back to 1792 and honors Italians in America. Back after this.
