Bill O'Reilly here Friday. September 13th, 2019. You are listening to the O'Reilly update. Here's what's happening across our nation. Virginia's lieutenant governor suing CBS. Elizabeth Warren calls for big increase in social security benefits. A majority of Americans now support free public college. The USA more diverse than any other point in our history. A new study says heavy social
media use causes mental health disorders among teenagers. Also coming up the message of the day,
a report card on last night's Democratic debate. But first, Virginia lieutenant governor, Justin Fairfax,
filing a $400 million defamation lawsuit against CBS, saying the network aired false information
from two women accusing him of sexual assault. Fairfax alleges CBS used the scam
to boost ratings, adding, quote, they must be held accountable.
Senator Elizabeth Warren calling for the biggest increase in Social Security in the past 50 years,
saying all recipients should receive an extra $200 a month.
The far-left Democrat vowing to pay for the increase by raising taxes on America's wealthiest citizens.
Economists say the increase will cost at least $150 billion in its first year.
A majority of Americans now support free public college and canceling student debt.
According to polling from the Hill, 58% of registered voters back recent proposals that would
make state universities tuition-free and eliminate more than $1 trillion in education loans.
That, of course, might be unconstitutional.
Estimates from the Census Bureau show an explosion of diversity.
across the USA in the past decade. Experts say nearly every region of the country has seen an
increase in minority population, mostly among Hispanics and Asian Americans. The Bureau believes
that the 2020 census will confirm the nation's white population only increased one-tenth of one percent
in the last 10 years. New study from MIT says teenagers who spend
more than three hours a day on social media, have an increased risk of major mental health
problems, including anxiety, depression, and aggression. Researchers say some young Americans
between the ages of 12 and 15 spend seven hours every day on their smartphones and other
devices. In a moment, who won and who lost last night's Democratic presidential debate?

Please call today. Time now for the O'Reilly Update message of the day. The third Democratic presidential
debate last night in Houston, Texas, no one dominated. But the moderators from ABC News booted it.
That's because they do not follow up their questioning. So, if a question is asked of a candidate
and the candidate dodges the question, nothing happens.
One example, Jorge Ramos, who is an open border guy, was one of the questioners.
Well, he asked a very simple, straightforward query.
What would you do about people who overstay their visas becoming undocumented aliens?
What would you do to those people?
No one answered Mr. Ramos's question.
to his credit, he followed up, but he couldn't get an answer.
The other three moderators from ABC never followed up.
So therefore, it's not really a debate because people are not held to account for the questions that are asked.
Now let's run it down.
The frontrunner Joe Biden looked a bit confused.
He did have a very poignant closing statement about the tragedy in his life and how purpose
keeps him going. I give Joe Biden a C.
Bernie Sanders was the same old socialist guy. Didn't say anything new, turned red a few times.
He got a C. Elizabeth Warren eloquent, but dodging questions like crazy.
She was asked directly, would you raise taxes on middle class families to pay for
the hundreds of entitlements you are offering? Wouldn't answer.
I give Warren a C-plus because she was articulate in her socialistic bearings.
Amy Klobuchar, Senator from Minnesota, she was spirited, she has no chance.
I give her a B. She didn't really say anything bad, but didn't break out.
Corey Booker very eloquent last night.
Showed personality. He was the best of the debaters on stage.
I give him a B.
Camilla Harris,
bland.
You know, she took a cheap shot at Fox News.
That wasn't very necessary.
I give her a C.
O'Rourke, Beto O'Rourke,
I give him a D because he is so radical,
so out there, I'm going to ban guns,
I'm going to do this, no, you're not.
Even if you were elected, which you won't be,
you've got to go through Congress
to pass laws. You, a president, can't do anything like that. You can't overturn laws.
It was absurd. Julian Castro attacked Biden for being befuddled. Okay, I mean, you know,
that's what happens in politics. I gave Castro a C-minus. He really didn't say much.
Yang, Andrew Yang, said that he knows a lot of doctors because he's Asian. I was
pretty funny. I give him a C. It didn't really matter. And Mayor Pete Buttigieg. Got a C-plus. He's articulate,
but he's got no chance to be elected this cycle. And that is the message for more news and
commentary. Please visit Bill O'Reilly.com, where you can get a free copy of my upcoming book,

Now, the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might not know.
This fall, millions of young Americans will return to college,
paying big bucks to hopefully advance their future careers.
But rising tuition costs and crippling debt are making some students think twice
before continuing higher education. The Wall Street Journal recently released its list of the top
schools in the USA, and the unbelievable price tag associated with some of them. Harvard, MIT,
Yale, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, all were in the top five with Harvard leading
the way. California Institute of Technology, Brown, Stanford, Cornell, and Duke fill out the top ten.
according to the journal, schools that fared best are wealthy institutions able to support
robust research operations and hire the best teachers. Translation, very expensive schools are the
best. An Ivy League education costs more than $50,000 a year. It doesn't include room and
board. Gets up to about 70 and 80,000 when you throw in everything. In all, a four-year degree
from any of the top five schools will leave a student about $300,000 in debt. That doesn't even cover
books or meals. The upside many students from these universities go on to earn six-figure salaries
within 10 years of graduation. But here's something you might not know. Enthusiasm for
higher education is actually declining among younger Americans. Nearly half of millennials say
their college degrees are simply not worth the price. New study by TD,
Ameritrade reveals nearly half of recent graduates consider their college too expensive and largely
unnecessary. Adding millions of teenagers across the USA are considering alternatives to a four-year degree.
Experts say one of the biggest factors in higher education is the economy. Believe it or not,
college admission rates decline during times of prosperity. Low unemployment, strong job markets,
low levels of personal debt propel many directly into the workforce, right out of high school.
Is a four-year degree worth it?
Weigh your options carefully, but consider this.
Experts say jobs requiring a college diploma will double over the next decade.
And of course, knowledge is always a good thing.
Back after this.
