You just heard me report that Chicago Mayor Lightfoot is accusing Texas Governor Abbott of disrespecting migrants. Well, that harkens back to the Aretha Franklin song, Respect, R-E-S-P-C-T. Remember that? Well, respect is a cornerstone for a civil society.
Starting point is 00:04:36 But in the USA, respect, self-respect, and respect for others is on the decline. first a definition. Respect basically comes from the Bible. Treat other people the way you want to be treated and then you can extend it. Treat yourself the way God intended. If you are a religious person, you believed a creator puts you on this planet. So you don't abuse yourself. You don't become a drug addict or an alcoholic or cut yourself up or do other things that are self-destructive. You must have respect for yourself. Now, let me tell you a quick story. So I am a regular guy when I'm not on radio and television. I know some people, oh sure o'Reilly but i am and i go to do things that you do um i don't have like staff and
Starting point is 00:05:53 sending people out so i'm in that pharmacy the local pharmacy in my town and i use this pharmacy for years and i i go in to pick up some stuff and behind the counter is a guy that i've never seen before heavy-sit man and i go hey how you doing uh i need this and this he goes where you're minute. Now I harken back to the movie taxi driver. You talking to me? Wait a minute. And I look at him, I said, fine. Is Maria here? Maria used to work in the pharmacy. No. Whoa. All right, that's 0 for two. So I say, please get the pharmacist out here. He looks at me, for the first time, by the way, he's looking at his shoes and he calls a pharmacy out. It's a nice woman and a woman comes out. I said, I'm going to take all my accounts away from this pharmacy if this man ever talks to me
Starting point is 00:06:52 like that again. Now, some people might say, well, you're an idiot, O'Reilly, you know, what are you doing that for? It's a matter of respect. The man was being disrespectful to me for no reason. And if he's going to do that to me, he's going to do it to other people. And if you're going to do it to me, by my virtue of my personality, you're going to get a reaction. But I didn't lose my temper or anything like that. Sometimes once in a while I will if the situation is extreme. But I demand respect. Demand is the word. When I go in and I'm trying to do a transaction or trying to get anything done, just treat me civilly. And other people too, if I see somebody being disrespectful to another person, I'll say something. Now, the reason that respect is on
Starting point is 00:07:37 the decline is because of Twitter. Just check it out, how disrespectful that is. is, and that has infected a lot of people. Respect, we need it in America.
