Bill O'Reilly here.
You are listening to the O'Reilly update.
Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater.
Thank you, Bill.
It is Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025.
Here's this happening today in America.
Crackdown coming.
Prank gone wrong.
Presidential Medal of Freedom and the best play of this football weekend.
That's all coming up.
Then we'll have your message of the day.
But first, officials in Chicago and Illinois are bracing for a major federal immigration enforcement operation
that could begin this week.
The governor of Illinois, Pritzker,
who Trump has noticed is preparing to run for president,
is therefore kicked around a couple of times,
said that if Trump sends the National Guard,
he would consider this an invasion.
There's been no communication between Trump
and the governor about plans
to send the National Guard to Chicago,
but the guard everywhere has been used
has only been used as a protection force
around federal law enforcement.
Now, the president has often coupled
immigration enforcement with a crime crackdown
over the weekend,
the Labor Day weekend in Chicago, there were at least, how many people shot, do you think?
How many people were shot in Chicago over Labor Day weekend?
Three, four, five, fifty three people.
Seven fatalities, the victims aging in ranges of 14 to 50.
In Texas, an 11-year-old boy has died after being shot in the back while he was allegedly
attempting a door-knocking prank on a neighbor.
It was 10.55 Saturday night, southeast Houston, the 10-year-old with a 10-year-old with
at least two friends, was ringing doorbells in the neighborhood and then running away.
It's unclear right now if the man being detained is the owner of the home.
But a search warrant was served on the home, and the police chief said a significant amount of weapons were found inside.
The TikTok trend is often not just ringing the doorbell, but also sometimes kicking the door, banging on the door violently.
And then they record it and post it online.
The president has announced that he's going to give the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Rudy Giuliani.
I have never seen in my life
such an unfair fall
from such great heights
as the left
has perpetrated against Rudy Giuliani.
He went from America's mayor
and then because he dared
defend his friend Donald Trump
after the 2020 election
he was dragged through the mud
like I've never seen.
Trump wrote,
as President of the United States of America,
I'm pleased to announce
that Rudy Giuliani,
the greatest mayor in the history
of New York City and an equally
great America patriot
will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom
our country's highest civilian honor.
We reported yesterday that Rudy was in a serious car accident over the weekend.
Our cities need a revitalization like what New York City had under Mayor Giuliani.
The play of the weekend goes to a 20-year-old Army football player who, with his dad,
witnessed a car crash about five miles from campus and pulled the driver out right before
the car burst into flames.
They noticed the live wires dangling on the ground, but that didn't stop him.
Dad said there was no discussion.
My son jumped right into action.
His military training kicked in, pulled the man right out.
I'm Mike Slater.
We'll be back with your message of the day.
Next.

Now it's time for the O'Reilly update message of the day.
There's a picture perhaps you've seen once you do, you'll never forget it.
It's of the church school shooting in Minneapolis.
There's emergency crews all in this.
the distance and the photographer's in the middle of the street and there's a mom running
towards the school away from the camera towards the school and she has a shoe in each hand
and she's running barefoot down the street just booking it running as fast as possible to her
children these shoes are slowing me down i got to take them off because i got to go and every parent
will see that picture you start to think what you would do if you were in that scenario
there was a neighbor who lived about a street away from the school and he was out on his front porch
and he would watch terrified parents run to the school not knowing if their children were killed
and he said he would stay on his porch for a while longer and he would see relieved parents with their
children walking back to their cars this indescribable sense of relief happened for everyone
except for two sets of parents.
I want to share something here that at first is
difficult, maybe disturbing.
But if you keep thinking about it,
I think it can change your life
in many positive ways.
It has mine.
It's a Latin phrase that goes back many years,
thousands of years.
Memento Mori.
It means, remember, you must die.
Now, remember when I first heard this,
it sounded like some Ryan Holiday,
life hack, stoic silliness.
But Christians embraced this term for a long time.
The Puritans as well.
On their gravestones, they would have Momentumori written on them.
If there were any portraits of Puritans, there weren't many, but there was always a skull
in the background just to remind the viewer that you must die, that there's an impending
death, always.
Pretty dark, but let me kick it up a notch.
Marcus Aurelius, the Roman emperor, stoic philosopher.
He quoted Epictetus.
Epictetus gave this advice.
Are you ready for this?
This is one of the most disturbing things I've ever heard.
So brace yourselves as I share this.
Epictetus's advice was, as you kiss your son, good night.
Whisper to yourself, he may be dead in the morning.
Jeez.
And I rejected this up front with all the force I could.
But then I started thinking about it.
And now I do it.
And if you do it, it will change the decisions you make in your life.
My oldest son, we have four kids.
My oldest son is eight.
Because he's the firstborn, we expect so too much.
We expect too much out of him.
He's eight, but we expect him to act like he's 48.
He's just a little guy.
And Jack the other day, got a migraine.
I'm like, oh, geez, a migraine.
He's young to be having a migraine.
And then he got one a couple days ago.
He got another one.
He's like, oh, man.
I'm like, what's going on?
And this idea of brain tumor went in my head.
Like, instantly went in my head and I'm thinking, oh, man, like, this is it for Jack.
And now I'm riddled with all these regrets.
Like what I would have done or should have said or how I should have treated them
and the decisions I would have made and the things we would have done instead,
if only I knew how much time he really had left.
All these thoughts were an instant.
Went to the eye doctor.
It turns out he's blonde as a bad knee and his glasses.
That's probably what was giving him these migraines.
So no brain tumor praise.
But even just this moment of realizing that life is short is an important reminder.
Cannot imagine what that mom was thinking when she was running barefoot to the school.
But maybe it's really important to take a moment every day and try.
How will the decisions you make in your life be different after you do?
I'm Mike Slater. More coming up.

time for something you might not know. The left has come out with a list of 45 words that you
cannot say. Now, this is a little different than the list that these people have put out over the
years. This is the same group of people who would have a list of politically incorrect words that
you can't say anymore. So you can't say fireman. You have to say firefighter. Someone is not a
waitress, that's sexist. There are a server. Not a stewardess, but a flight attendant. Stuff like
that. Now, this is a little different spin from this think tank on the left called The Third Way.
They have a list of words you can't say, but this is two fellow Democrats who are trying to
win office and just generally not be considered a lunatic. So this is advice to their own side.
Hey, stop saying these words because everyone thinks you're totally out of your mind when you do.
words like privilege triggering microaggression safe space those last two those are the two that
started at all really that was like the beginning of peak craziness on college campuses oh be
careful the microaggression I need my safe space with my puppy dog and we can color together
body shaming centering critical theory postmodernism subverting norms systems of oppression
cultural appropriation
Radical transparency
Stop saying these words
Democrats
If you don't want people to think
You're lunatics anymore
Food insecurity
Housing insecurity
Burthing person
You know the guy from the CDC
who resigned
And he's making his rounds
On all the news networks
Guy thinks that men can get pregnant
And we're all supposed to be like
Oh how can we survive
How can the CDC go on
Without this guy who thinks
Men can get pregnant
chest feeding, cisgender, deadnaming, LGBTIQIA plus.
Wow.
Are we at an era where the Democrats are going to stop using those words?
Even LGBTQIA plus.
Latinx, Bipak, intersectionality, minoritized communities.
And one of my favorites, justice-involved individuals.
Instead of calling someone a felon, you have to call them a justice-involved.
individual. Now, to be clear, they're not saying don't be these things or believe these
things. They're just saying, stop saying it out loud. Now, of course, this is hilarious because
these are the people who came up with these words. Part of me, of course, doesn't want the
left to figure this out. But I'm pretty sure they'll find new ways to alienate normal people.
More coming up. I'm Mike Slater. I have a podcast called Politics by Faith. Thank you for
letting me fill in these last few days. Great news. Bill will be back tomorrow.
Thank you.
Thank you.
