Bill O'Reilly here Wednesday, September 21st, 2022.
You are listening to the O'Reilly Update.
Here's what's happening today in America.
President Biden addressing the United Nations.
Arrest at the southern border reach another record high.
Families turn to fast food to cope with inflation.
New report reveals the happiest states in the USA.
Also ahead, Vladimir Putin once again threatening the world, but is he going down?
But first, Joe Biden in New York City for a United Nations General Assembly.
The president delivering remarks on climate change, Ukraine and COVID, but mostly telling
the world that he will not allow Vladimir Putin to run wild and invade countries.
Putin is replying that he may use nuclear weapons. So this is white hot. The leaders of 150 member
nations are in the Big Apple until Friday, absent Putin, of course, and China Xi. This will be
the first major UN summit since the pandemic shut down global travel. Arrests at the U.S.-Mexico border
smashing records in August. Department of Homeland Security confirming more than 2.1 million
encounters in the past 11 months, 2.1 million, the most in history, an unprecedented amount of
narcotics also crossing into the USA. According to the Biden administration, the border
is secure, but that is not true, and the entire situation is truly hard to believe.
Record number of families dining at fast food restaurants to save money.
Prices at the supermarket are up 25%, but the fast food joints remain relatively cheap.
Sales at McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, Subway, the rest, rising 10% year to year.
33% of Americans eat at a fast food restaurant every day.
That is a health disaster.
A report from Wallet Hub ranks the happiest states in the nation.
Here we go.
Maryland, Minnesota, Utah, New Jersey, and the happiest state?
Hawaii.
Folks living on the big island have the longest life expectancy in America.
The most depressed states, Alabama, Kentucky, West Virginia.
In a moment, Putin has to be depressed.
He's getting his butt kicked in Ukraine.
But can he survive?
Right back.
Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress.
National debt rising, trade war, shaking the markets.
And meanwhile, China is dumping the dollar and stockpiling gold.
That's why I protected my savings with physical gold and silver.

Time now for the O'Reilly Update message of the day, Putin in trouble.
So this morning I wake up and listen to the CBS morning news on the radio, and the lead story is
Putin is sending 300,000 more troops someplace. They're not all going to Ukraine, but he's calling
them up. And he's threatening to use nukes. This shows that Vladimir Putin is desperate because his
army is getting its butt kicked by the Ukrainians and has had to retreat in some places.
In fact, Putin's military is embarrassing. So the question now becomes, will this be the end of
old Vlad? Some facts. He was born in 1952 in St. Petersburg, Russia, began his career as a KGB agent in
1975. He's rural Russia since 1999. That's 23 years. Since taking office as a dictator,
250 members of the press have been murdered or gone missing. It is not wise to challenge Vlad
the dictator inside Russia. Now, U.S. officials estimate that Russia has suffered 80,000 casualties
since invading Ukraine last February.
The UN General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to condemn that invasion.
Just four countries are backing Russia, Belarus, Syria, North Korea, and Eritrea.
The U.S. and Europe have imposed severe economic sanctions, as you know,
and now all Russians are suffering.
In addition, Finland and Sweden have joined NATO.
And finally, Putin's army, as I mentioned,
mentioned is in disarray.
Economically, people in Russia are getting hammered.
The ruble was at one time down 50%,
Moscow's stock exchange 33% down.
Russian exports, 40% decline.
The Russian economy continues to shrink.
Hundreds of Western companies have left Russia, Amazon, Apple,
Google, IBM, Microsoft,
off Netflix, Samsung, Starbucks, McDonald's, and others all out of there. And dissent inside Russia
is growing. But it is a police state. And Putin knows how to run that. So if you criticize
Putin or the Russian government or the war in Ukraine, and authorities find out about it,
they will punish you. And capital punishment has been used over and over.
again. Not inside a courtroom. You just get a bullet in the back of the head. So the people,
the Russian people, cannot publicly show their disdain. But U.S. intelligence believes that Putin is
in trouble with his own population. What might happen is Putin himself will self-destruct.
he looks terrible. Something is wrong with him health-wise. And we can only pray that happens.

Now the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might not know.
21 years ago today, a benefit concert called a tribute to heroes raised money for the victims of the 9-11 terror attacks.
The televised event garnered hundreds of millions of dollars, but much of that money was missing.
managed. Here is the story. The concert was broadcast on 35 networks across the USA, Canada, and
Europe. Actor George Clooney organized celebrities to appear and staffed the telephones to take
donations. On a dark stage illuminated by hundreds of candles, dozens of artists sang songs
of Morning and Hope. The show featured performances by Bruce Springsteen, U.2,
Tom Petty, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, and others. Speakers included Clooney, Tom Hanks,
Will Smith, Muhammad Ali, Tom Cruise, and me, your humble correspondent. The program aired
uninterrupted and commercial free on September 21st, 2001. The benefit raised a whopping $350 million
for police, firefighters, victims, and their families.
months, the money was withheld, however, and no reason was given. On October 31st, 2001, I called
out the situation on my Fox News program. I wanted George Clooney and the other celebrities
to help me get the donations released. Clooney refused. The chairman of the United Way also made
excuses. Quote, I think there is a natural tension between the desire to do it quickly and the need
to do it well and responsibly. And we've frankly been establishing that balance using our best
judgment, unquote. Well, that is BS. The money was there. The victims and their families needed it.
The charities wouldn't give it out. Well, after weeks of coverage by me, the money was eventually given.
to the victims. And here's something else you might not know. To this day, a hundred charities
are committed to helping people harmed on 9-11. Beginning in 2018, more first responders
have died from that attack than those killed on the very day. Back after this.
