Helene aftermath, Kamala to the border, IDF, not done yet, and a bill to slow you down. That's all coming up, then Bill's going to be here with your message today. But first, Helene, strongest storm to ever hit this part of Florida, category four, hurricane, of course, but also across western North Carolina, towns completely destroyed.
Starting point is 00:00:51 In the county that includes Asheville, the sheriff reported at least 10 storm-related deaths. That's just one county. 60 people across the southwest have been killed. It's across five different states. The state hardest hit was South Carolina, 24 deaths. The fatalities included two volunteer firefighters who were responding to calls and killed after a tree fell on their truck. Kamala visited the border on Friday. Meanwhile, ICE released a report saying that the Department of Homeland Security knows of at least 660,000 illegal aliens in the U.S. with criminal records, including 13,000 convicted murderers, 16,000 sexual assault convicts, 6,500 migrants convicted of obstructing
Starting point is 00:01:37 the police, over 10,000 convicted of robbery, 13,000 convicted with weapons offenses, 62,000 convicted of assault, over 2,000 convicted of kidnapping, and 792 illegal aliens convicted of arson. After Israel took out the head of Hezbollah in Lebanon, on. It's been a rough week for terrorists. U.S. air strikes killed 37 militants in Syria affiliated with the Islamic State and al-Qaeda. Two different strikes. Two of the dead were senior militants. And just on September 16th, a couple weeks ago, there was another strike on an Islamic State training camp in Syria, killed 28 people for Syrian leaders. There's 900 U.S. troops in Syria. Remember Kamala at the debate said this is the first time, like 100 years
Starting point is 00:02:20 there was no American service members in any active war zones? Like, well, what about those 900? bill passed the California legislature that would have required all new cars to beep when a driver goes over the speed limit by 10 miles an hour. And the problem when California makes these dumb car regulations, the market for California is so big that all the car manufacturers end up putting this in all the cars for everyone at every state. But Gavin Newsom vetoed the bill for now. I'm Mike Slater from the podcast Politics by Faith, the Great Bill O'Reilly. He's got your message of the day. Next. Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress.

On this one day, I think it's safe to say that we have political chaos in America. It's not good, but we have it. And I went back and re-read my new bestseller confronting the president
Starting point is 00:04:22 to see if there was ever a time in America when the political system was this chaotic. And I think there were two times. The Civil War, the run up to it, and the Great Depression. Because both of those things were costing lives. People were being killed in a Civil War, more than a million. And the Great Depression, the suicide rate, people jumping off buildings, taking their own lives, they lost everything? It was harrowing. And you couldn't get a straight answer because war precluded a free press in the South anyway. And the Great Depression, it was just a mess.
Starting point is 00:05:09 People couldn't afford to read a newspaper or buy a radio at that point. But now in 2024, we have two political parties who are so opposite each other that only, the Civil War had had a worse situation. The Democratic Party is progressive and it is the most radical left presidential party in history. The Republican Party is reacting to that, and it is nasty. Everybody asks me who's going to win. I have no blank an idea. Things are going to happen.
Starting point is 00:05:49 I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Name in town if you wish to opine. Now let's go to the mail. Dave Patterson's Summit, New Jersey.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Bill, I believe you should never stop learning in your books. Make sure I'm always learning. Did it again with confronting the presence. Way you write puts textbooks to shame, of course. Thanks so much. So we write history in what they call an accessible way. It's fun. and that drives the regular historians nuts because their books aren't fun.
Starting point is 00:06:26 My books outsell their books. There's not even a number to attach to it, and that's why they don't like it. Debbie Butts, Thomasville, Georgia loved, oh, I love to hear that word, Debbie, love confronting the president, read in one day. It's now my favorite second to killing the witches. Interesting. I'm a long distant cousin of Harry Truman. Truman used to go to church with my grandparents in Missouri. I learned more about Truman than I realized I would.
Starting point is 00:06:55 The Truman and chapter, and if you read Killing the Rising Sun, Debbie, we really zero in on Truman in that book. But in presidents, confining the presidents, we have a very measured and good Truman chapter. We got Richard Wasserman. in Ottawa, Canada, the capital of the country. I wonder, does not former President Trump listen to his debate divisors? I, I don't know. He's listened to me a couple of times, recently.
Starting point is 00:07:38 But by and large, the cliche is he marches to a different drummer. In a moment, something you might not know. Power, politics, and the people behind the headlines. Sports fans often debate the greatest baseball player of all time. Names on that list include Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Barry Bonds. But a foreign-born major league baseball player may turn out to be the best of all time. Here is the story of Shohei Otani.
Starting point is 00:09:03 Born in 1994, Japan, player gained national fame in high school, started playing professional baseball in 2012 when he was 18-year-old. years old. During his time in Japan, Shohei became a superstar. In 2017, he made the leap to Major League Baseball, signing with the Los Angeles Angels for tens of millions of dollars. Famous for both hitting and pitching, Shohei won the American League rookie of the year in 2018 and has continued to smash records since then. Last week, for example, 30 year-year-old Otani accomplished defeat no player has ever done. He's now the first athlete to enter the so-called 50-50 club. That's hitting 50 home runs and stealing 50 bases in a single season. Nobody has ever done that before. The previous record belonged to Alice Rodriguez
Starting point is 00:10:06 in 1998, he had 42 homers, 42 steals. Today, the man from Japan enjoys one of the most lucrative contracts in baseball, 10-year deal, $700 million. And I can't translate that into yen for you, but it's a lot, as Donald Trump might say. Shoe Aetani is now a sports icon all over the world. His global popularity is only rival. by soccer legends Lionel Messi and David Beckham. And here's something else you might not know.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Otani is also known for charity giving. Baseball store donates his money on both sides of the Pacific. His biggest project is financing relief efforts for natural disasters in Japan, most recently the 2011 tsunami. Mr. Otani maintains a permanent resident in L.A. and Tokyo.
