Bill O'Reilly here.
you are listening to the O'Reilly update.
Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater.
Thank you, Bill.
It is Monday, August 7th, 2026.
Happy Labor Day.
Here's this happening today in America.
Amazon plane crash.
Iran tankers destroyed.
Massive win in Germany.
And welcome to Michigan.
Set your clocks back one second.
That's all coming up.
Then I will be back with your message of the day.
But first, an Amazon cargo jet crashed at the Miami airport.
This is 2 o'clock.
yesterday, killing five people and injuring several more.
The plane was arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The crash occurred after the jet overshot the runway and plowed across a road that was
used by warehouse workers and other businesses that surround the airport.
Black smoke billowing from the plane.
The pilots were stuck in the cockpit and also people were trapped in their cars that
were hit.
200 emergency personnel responded.
Wind gusts were 30 miles per hour at the time.
160 flights were canceled over 300 to live.
laid because of the crash. Last year, a UPS plane crashed after losing its engine while accelerating
down the runway in Louisville's airport. The crash killed all three pilots and 12 people on the
ground. 23 more were injured. U.S. forces, quote, permanently disabled two Iranian oil tankers
and completely destroyed another after Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps launched ballistic missiles
towards an American aircraft carrier and destroyer. Neither of our ships were hit, no service
members injured. Iran's IRGC Navy said they've targeted three oil tankers which have been sailing
through an unauthorized route in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as three vessels affiliated
with America in other areas. Germany's, as they say, far right, alternative for Germany party
had a massive win in their elections. They crushed the current party in power. It's called the
conservative party. Things are different over there. It's all relative. The problem is that in these
European systems with multiple parties, all the loser smaller parties join forces, all to keep
the winning party out of power. Of course, one of the main issues is to stop migration.
University of Michigan had an easy home opener against Western Michigan, held in Michigan,
and it came down to the very last play. Michigan was down 12 to 7 from the 50 yard line,
a Hail Mary with nine seconds left, and it sailed out of the back of the end zone.
Time ran out. Western Michigan, huge upset to strong.
the season for the Wolverines.
But wait.
The refs said someone touched the ball out of bounds when there was less than one second left.
So Michigan got one more play, another Hail Mary, and this time they got it.
They won 13 to 12.
Apparently there's a slight discrepancy between the TV clock and the official clock.
And the Big Ten is stuck by the ruling on the field.
Give him another play.
I'll be back with your message of the day.
Would you stand strong if it was 11 versus you?
It's coming up.

Now it's time for the O'Reilly update.
Message of the Day.
to one, I thought, I assumed, you know what assuming does, I assumed there was one woman wearing pink
who was holding out because she loves Lindsay so much. And all the other jurors were like,
what are you doing? Of course she's guilty. But just, it turns out there was just one hero,
one person who said she's guilty. All the others were some varying degree of, well, it's not
her fault. She should be let go. And there was just a.
just one person saying, you bunch of lunatics, she's obviously guilty.
Six days of nine women and two dudes, hectoring this one guy into saying she's not guilty.
And he said, nope, ain't going to happen.
I don't care how tired I've ever been or how mentally unstable anyone's ever been.
You can't kill your three kids, one at a time, methodically like that.
And get away with it.
Never going to happen.
She is guilty.
And he yelled out.
And now they got to do the whole trial over again.
Can't wait until we get to hear from that one guy as well.
But if you're wondering how this could be, how we can live in a society today where 11 jurors were going to find her not guilty.
Megan Basham makes a point that Massachusetts is one of the least Christian states in the country.
It's in the bottom 10.
Only 20% of Massachusetts residents.
20% attend to religious service even once a month.
This speaks to the need for cultural Christianity.
She says because even if everyone doesn't mean it.
in their hearts, it still functions, Christianity still functions to shape society in just and moral
directions and keeps us from becoming the sort of people who will excuse the cold and calculated
killing of three innocent children by their own mother. Christians are called to be salt and light.
Jesus said in Matthew 5, you are the salt of the earth, you're the light of the world, let your light
shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to the father, to your father, who's in
heaven. I have a podcast called Politics by Faith. We went deeper into that aspect of the sermon on
the Mount. And also because there's nothing new under the sun, we went back to Plutarch,
the historian from about the year 100, about a town in the year 300 BC that had a social contagion
and how they stopped it. Maybe we can learn something from them as well. But salt has a very
important role in world history and in the Bible. Salt is where we get the word salary.
Because way back in the day, Roman soldiers were paid in salt. That's where we get the expression.
He's not worth his salt. Or hopefully you are worth your salt.
And one of the very important roles of salt, we would salt our food.
Why?
To preserve it.
To preserve the meat.
That is why you are called to be the salt of the earth.
You are called to keep our culture from spoiling.
The slippery slope is very real.
We went from women, of course, saying you can't kill babies to, well, safe, legal and rare, to, well, 16 weeks at the latest.
To, ah, full term's fine.
And now, well, any age is fine, as long as you're very overwhelmed.
with life. And if you think I'm exaggerating, in Canada, if a mother kills her own child who is
under the age of one, willfully causing the death of her child, if at the time her mind was disturbed
because of childbirth or lactation difficulties, then the mom will get a maximum of five years in jail,
a maximum of five years. So even a child up to the age of one, it's basically just a late-term abortion.
We might have a social contagion on our hands, or even worse, a new normal.
We have more of this on my podcast, Politics by Faith, but it is past time for us to be salt and light in our homes and in our country.
Something you might not know. Next.

Now it's time for something you might not know.
162,000.
That is the number of jobs added
in the U.S. economy in August.
It's going to be a pretty boring
O'Reilly update, something you might not know.
I got to admit, but we got to know the numbers.
I got a lot of numbers, but we've got to know the numbers.
It's crunch time here before the midterms.
The midterm convention this week is Wednesday and Thursday.
And we ought to know the truth about the economy.
And this economy added 162,000 jobs in August.
It's not the economy.
The economy didn't do anything.
The American people added 162,000 new jobs.
Economist experts estimated 55,000 jobs are going to be added, which would be great.
That would be something to celebrate.
Also, the previous months.
So July, Democrats were kicked to John.
on this. There was a job loss of 23,000. But the numbers were revised up to actually be a gain of
21,000 in July. Similar deal in June, together 55,000 more than previously reported. So it's really
that on top of the 162,000 from August. And these aren't just retail gains, manufacturing
payrolls up 16,000. That's above the 5,000 that were estimated. Construction added 22,000. That's on top of
the 18,000 gain from the month before, and maybe the best news of all, the federal government's
payroll contracted by 5,000. This is what the president has done, shrinking the size of the federal
government. And hourly wages increased 3.1% from last year. So wages are up and outpacing
inflation. We need to celebrate this. I have a theory, because we're nice people and we value
empathy. I have a theory that we are afraid to admit when your personal economy has never been
better. So if you have a great job and you got to raise and you have more options than ever before
and things are going great, we're hesitant to admit it or we're hesitant to even feel good about it
because there's someone over there who's having a tougher time. Now, they may be having a tougher time
entirely because of their own terrible decisions in life. You get someone with face tattoos who says,
oh, I just can't hold a job.
It's like, well, do we need to feel sorry for them?
Is that person who has made nothing but terrible life decisions,
someone we should listen to when they complain about the economy?
My point is, if your economy is doing great, admit it.
Be happy about it.
Be grateful.
And don't add to the left's purposeful, bad attitude to try and drag down morale.
Our price is still high.
Yes, you can thank Biden for that.
Even the former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers told Biden,
do not pass this $2 trillion bill you're going to make inflation out of control.
That's exactly what happened.
but the economy is doing way better.
It's okay to admit it.
More coming up.

I get it.
I'm Siaiaia and I live in Ice Cove.
I've made some questionable decisions that didn't end up the way I planned.
And today I'm still figuring it out.
Somehow things usually get worse before they get better.
Apparently, that's how I roll.
