Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey Bill O'Reilly here. Welcome to the No Spin News, Monday, August 19th, 2004, stand up for your country. Pretty chaotic day for me. I'll explain it to tomorrow. We got a lot of news to cover, obviously, a DNC convention open in Chicago. We'll tell you a little bit about.
Starting point is 00:00:30 that there's I would say concern in the Trump campaign and I'm going to get into that fairly significantly tonight so here we go the talking points memo is about politics on Monday August 19th where the country stands first of all Trump's behind not by much not by much, but he's behind, lost all of his lead that he had over Biden after the first debate in June. They're worried about it. Donald Trump himself is worried about it. That anxiety is seeping down throughout the campaign. To me, he's got plenty of time to turn it around. But he's not winning. Everybody should know that.
Starting point is 00:01:30 And the people who will tell you he is winning are misleading you. Okay, so the debate on September 10th is the big number this year, huge. And the polling before the debate means nothing, unless there's a collapse, and I don't expect that to happen. Trump is out doing what he always does, his rallies and things like that. I think he's getting the message that he's got to be sharper, but I don't know that for certain. But the polling now is soft. It's not precise. It will get that way after the first debate.
Starting point is 00:02:08 So September 15th, circle that date. That's the date when the polls will start to matter. And we're right on it. So the main problem with Donald Trump is his messaging. It's too muddled. It's all over the place. He's not disciplining himself the way he has to
Starting point is 00:02:26 to defeat Kamala Harris at this point. So on Saturdays in Wilkes, Pennsylvania, know it well. That was my first job, Channel 16 there. And he's given a rally. And all of a sudden he goes after a woman named Peggy Noonan. So Ms. Noonan is a columnist for the Wall Street Journal. With all due respect for her, no one cares about Peggy Noonan other than her friends and family. No one in this country cares about this woman. She's anti-Trump. She's nasty. All right. I don't know her, but she's been nasty to me. I've not. I've not no use for her, and I don't care about her. But Donald Trump singles her out, all right, and says
Starting point is 00:03:07 this. Go. I don't know anything about her. I don't know her. Treats me badly, but that's okay. She called it wrong. She's called it wrong now for about eight years. But she said one thing that got me. She said Kamala has one big advantage. She's a very beautiful woman. she's a beautiful so I decided to go back and reread the clause I'm not saying he's but I say that I am much better looking than her
Starting point is 00:03:38 I think I'm much better I'm a better looking person than Kamala now he's fooling around that's not serious he's been sarcasm he's putting on a show.
Starting point is 00:03:55 But this morning, on the CBS Radio World News Roundup, who's heard all over the country, CBS Radio plays it straight. No context. And so people who don't know think Trump's a nut. And that's what the media wants the American people to think. But again, Donald Trump's handing. the media, this stuff.
Starting point is 00:04:26 He doesn't need to be a comedian. He doesn't need to do this. He's entertaining enough when he's riffing on policy. I don't want Trump not to be Trump. I don't want him to change. He's done something nobody else ever did. Attain the presidency with no political connections, nothing. Just did it on his own.
Starting point is 00:04:51 Nobody's ever done that before. But when you read my book confronting the president, you'll see that. It's the only guy in history has ever done it. So you don't tell them, hey, throw all that out. But you must be more disciplined now. No one cares about Peggy Noonan and saying that you're better looking at Kamala Harris. That doesn't get you a vote anywhere. Not one.
Starting point is 00:05:11 Not one. It's frustrating. It's just frustrating for me because I know the danger this country faces if the vice president wins. Okay. So J.D. Vans. We have been trying to get Senator Vans on this program for 26 days. All right? And we're still negotiating and we hope it happens this week. I'm involved at the highest level. There's no reason for him not to do it. We've given him unbelievable access. to taping an interview. Still don't have it nailed down.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Maybe by this afternoon after taping we will, I hope. But this is not easy. And it should be. It should be hard. This broadcast reaches millions of independent voters, millions on YouTube, on News Nation, all over the place. Anyway, I'm going to keep you posted tomorrow. on that. We're still hoping. And there's no acrimony. It's not they're mad at us. We're mad at
Starting point is 00:06:30 them. And I haven't said anything negative about J.D. Vance. I don't know him. I want to get him on it. Discuss policy. Because that's important to you, right? Now, Wals and Harris never going to come on. Never. In a million years would they come up against me. But I expected that Senator Vance would. Because there's no reason for him not to. But again, this is the lack of focus that we are seeing. If it doesn't change in the Trump campaign, you're going to lose. And that's the truth. And that's a memo.
Starting point is 00:07:09 All right. Chicago. I didn't go because there's no reason for me to go. I got to watch everybody. And it's much easier to do that from New York rather than being pinned down in a little space in the Chicago. arena. Same thing for a Republican. I didn't know. I need to go to that. So tonight, Joe Biden's going to speak. I wrote a message of the day to explain why. Usually in a situation like this, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris would be on the stage together, you know, with the salute
Starting point is 00:07:40 raising of the hands together, but not now because the Democrats want Biden as far away from Kamala as they can get him. So he's Monday night. He's going to speak tonight, as is Jill Biden, Hillary Clinton, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson. That's the lineup if you want to watch it. Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress. National debt rising, trade war, shaking the markets. And meanwhile, China is dumping the dollar and stockpiling gold. That's why I protected my savings with physical gold and silver through the only dealer I trust, American Hartford gold. And you can do this. Get precious metal. delivered to your door or place in a tax advantage, gold IRA.
Starting point is 00:08:27 They'll even help you roll over your existing IRA or 401K, tax and penalty-free. With billions and precious metals delivered thousands of five-star reviews and an A-plus from the Better Business Bureau, you can trust American Hartford Gold as I do. Please call 866-326-55-75-76 or text bill to 99-88-99. Again, that's 866-3-2-6-5576 or text bill to 9988-99. Power, politics, and the people behind the headlines. I'm Miranda Devine, New York Post columnist and the host of the brand-new-podcast, Podforce 1. Every week, I'll sit down for candid conversations with Washington's most powerful disruptors,
Starting point is 00:09:22 lawmakers, lawmakers, and even the President of the United States. These are the leaders shaping the future of America and the world. Listen to Podforce 1 with me, Miranda Devine, every week on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcast. You don't want to miss an episode. All right, tomorrow, Barack and Michelle Obama will speak separately. Doug Imoff, who's Kamala Harris's husband, and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker. Right. It's tomorrow. Wednesday, Walls, Clinton, Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, and Pete Buttigieg gets a primetime spot on Wednesday and then Kamala on Thursday. The protests are so far nonviolent. There's a big wall. It's been built around the Democratic Convention. Very interesting, it's metal fencing, vehicles including
Starting point is 00:10:20 snow plows. They're not letting the loons get close to the McCormick Police Convention Center, pushing them back, pushing them back, push them back. Two people have been arrested, that's not bad. The protests are calling for end to the warring Gaza, gay rights, abortion, the usual suspects. That's what they're there to do. Pretty vicious toward Kamala Harris. Pretty vicious. I don't like her at all. And at least 20,000 people, a city of Chicago's estimating,
Starting point is 00:10:57 will be there to protest, 20,000. I am going to have a message of the day tomorrow on Joe Biden's speech tonight. So that's free for everybody who's go to billowryly.com in the morning and I'll analyze that. And I'll spend some time on in NOSPN News as well. I don't expect it's going to be anything. What is really revolting is how Biden is being analyzed on the far left channels.
Starting point is 00:11:26 It's just really, I mean, it's like an episode of Saturday Night Live. Roll the tape. There is going to be so much love for Joe Biden. There's going to be tears of joy when he walks into that hall. And what he has done, and I love that a major focus of this is going to be on democracy. He literally saved our democracy in the U.S. Oh, yeah, sure he did. By opening the border, right?
Starting point is 00:11:54 So we're, you know, it's just a catastrophe. But one thing. Senator Klobuchar believes that. She's not blowing smoke. That's what she believes. Why? Because she wants to believe it. That's why?
Starting point is 00:12:09 Tears of joy. Joy, the tears of joy that he's not running, that might be a better analysis. All right, so the House committees investigating President Biden have issued a 292-page report that says he engaged in impeachable conduct, abuse of power, obstruction of justice, he sold his office. Here's the main quote from the report. President Joe Biden conspired a commit influence peddling and grift in doing so he abuses office. that's vice president and by repeatedly lying about his abuse of office has defrauded the United States to enrich his family unquote but they don't have enough uh hard evidence to take it
Starting point is 00:12:50 any further that's it that's where they are nothing's going to come of it do i believe the report yeah i believe it i think joe biden uh influence peddling all day long i'd love to know why he and Jill are refining, refinancing their mortgages in Delaware every year, year and a half. Why? Why are you doing that? I'd love to know that. There's a lot of stuff, you know. All right, so I wrote a column yesterday, Panic in the Year of 2024, because a lot of people
Starting point is 00:13:23 are panicking on both sides, all right? About if Kamala wins, if Trump wins, they're panic, panic, panic, panic, panic, panic, panic. So I put it in some kind of perspective by saying, look, this country has checked, and balances, which is the brilliance of it. And yeah, say Harris wins the presidency, well, if the Republicans keep the House and win the Senate, very possible, she's not going to be able to do very much. So the panic right now is misplaced. You want to panic maybe around Halloween. Okay, but not now. So the Senate races are very interesting. As you know, it's 50-50 now. I think it is, or something like that.
Starting point is 00:14:05 Bernie Sanders says he's independent, but he votes Democrat, all that stuff. So West Virginia is going to add a Republican seat. All right, Manchin says he's not running, and the governor, Jim Justice, will win easily in a landslide. So I'll add one thing. Montana looks like it's going to flip. Looks like Testor is going to lose in Montana. It's a long way away, but by the best. I bet on this guy, Tim Shee.
Starting point is 00:14:33 So that's two gains for the Republicans. There are other close races in Ohio, Michigan, Arizona, Kerry Lake, running as Rubin Gallego, but Ms. Lake has not been able to get over the top in that state. And then there are close races in Nevada and Pennsylvania. I think Baldwin is going to win in Wisconsin, and she's a Democrat. Join us now as a guy who studies all this. very fine political scientist. His name is Douglas Bennett, comes to us from Ivan's, Utah, as an associate professor of political science at Southern Utah University. So I'm not going to ask
Starting point is 00:15:12 you to make a prediction now because too many things are going to happen, as I pointed out in the memo, a professor, particularly to debate. But here's what I want to know from you. Usually the down ticket, the congresspeople and the senators, they have a tendency to go with the president who wins, the person who wins the presidency. But this year, I'm not sure that's going to happen. What's your feeling about it? I think it's likely that the presidential race will have a fairly significant down ballot effect this year, Bill. I think, as you pointed out of the memo, I think Harris has energized the party.
Starting point is 00:15:53 I think there's no question that what happened was a coup. They were anxious to get rid of the president. They jettisoned 14 million primary votes and told Democrat primary voters who their candidate was. The candidate is Harris. The good thing about Harris, from their perspective, is that she has stayed out of sight and is now being remade into the candidate that they would like her to be. And I think that will have some down-ballot effect, especially in places is where Republicans have gotten a little closer.
Starting point is 00:16:28 I agree with your analysis of the Trump campaign. I think they're in trouble. And I think to the extent that the president talks about who's better looking or questions Vice President Harris's ethnicity, he's making a big mistake because I think she has a record that is ripe for criticism. He has a record with which most Americans disagree.
Starting point is 00:16:52 And I think if the Republican Party can, focus on criticizing her will have an effect in the Senate races that are close, but right now leaning toward Democrats, I would put Ohio there, for example. Yeah, well, what I see is, I see two things. Number one, that Harris's support is not broad in the independent precincts. It's an anti-Trump play, all right? Yes. So they're voting against Trump, not for Harris. And that Harris herself is weak. It's a very weak candidate. If she was strong, she'd be sitting for interviews. She'd be going out and explaining her philosophy, which you can't explain because now she's backtracking on a lot of it.
Starting point is 00:17:36 And if you look at her history in the Senate, she did nothing for four years. And as vice president, she became almost a laughing stock with the border and her approval ratings being in the low 30s. So she is not a strong candidate at all. And they booted her out of the primaries in 2020 because she had no message. Now she's allied herself to the most extreme left in the Democratic Party. So it seems to me that if Trump would refocus and stop with the stuff that doesn't matter, he could zero in on how weak and how radical she is. And that would gain him support in the independent precincts.
Starting point is 00:18:18 Forget about the Democrats. They're going to support her. And so I see her support, Harris has supported, very thin. And that means the polls could change very fast. I agree. I think one thing that Trump has failed to articulate is this. In 2020, the Democrats chose Biden as an alternative to Sanders, who was regarded as two left wing for the party.
Starting point is 00:18:48 the only senator with a voting record to the left of Sanders is Harris. I know. It's crazy. It's crazy. It's a point that Republicans have failed to make. And I think those independents that you speak of and the people who haven't decided don't know that. They don't know Harris's Senate record. And I think it's incumbent upon Trump to make that front and center.
Starting point is 00:19:16 Yeah. I don't know if he's got the precision to do that. He's more interested in the emotion of the game than the tactics of policy. Now, in the Senate races themselves, I have two Republican pickups, all right? In West Virginia and what was the other one I said? Montana? Montana, thank you. are the Republican senators in danger of losing any seats?
Starting point is 00:19:57 I haven't seen any of that I think the Republicans are going to lose. That of course, favorite. I'm glad to hear you say I'm glad to hear you say that because I don't want this progressive crew in the White House. I just think it's a disaster. My personal opinion, but I've got to be upfront about it. So you don't see any of the Republican senators, being in jeopardy, and both of us agree that it's likely to pick up two, the Senate's
Starting point is 00:20:25 likely to get up to Republicans. That would effectively block a President Harris in doing very much, right? Yes, although if President, if Vice President Harris does win the presidency, of course, Governor Walsh would cast a tie-breaking vote in the Senate. But it's 5248. Well, right now we've got four. Right now we've got four. 48 Democrats, three independents, King, Sanders, and Cinema. And if Republicans pick one, we tie, but they could beat us with a vice presidential tiebreaker. If we pick up two, speaking as a Republican, we hold the majority in the Senate, and the vice president can't nullify the tie.
Starting point is 00:21:11 That's what I, that is my crystal ball at this point, that even if Trump goes down, that there will be a bulwark. Now, in the House, it's also very, very close, but you can't call those local races. There's just too many of them and too many people doing too many crazy things. But do you have any feeling about the House? I am more confident that we will take the Senate
Starting point is 00:21:36 than I am that we will hold the House. Hey, it's Sean Spicer from the Sean Spicer Show podcast, reminding you to tune into my show every day to get your daily dose inside the world of politics. It's what you want from the New York Post wrapped up in one snappy show.
Starting point is 00:22:30 Ask your smart speaker to play the NY Postcast podcast. Listen and subscribe on Amazon Music, Apple Podcast, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. Now, when you talk about we, are you coming from a Republican point of view here? Yes, I'm a former. Republican House staff before I became a professor. I worked in Washington and I was counseled to the Republicans in the House of Representatives. So when I say we, okay. I'm in a Republican. No, I just should have identified you as such, but I don't like to do that. I don't want to pigeonhole anybody. Now, Utah will go red across the board. But just to the south, and I've made that board
Starting point is 00:23:12 across many times. Arizona, which you would think would be a red state, that looks like it might turn into a blue situation. What's the difference between Utah and Arizona? Is it ethnicity? Is it Hispanic votes? What is it? Now, demographically, the two states are quite similar. I think in the case of Arizona, and again, this is just me speaking, I think the issue is candidate quality. I don't think Carrie Lake is a particularly strong candidate. I don't think she did herself in a favor protesting her
Starting point is 00:23:46 gubernatorial loss. And Gallego is not a left-being Democrat. He's a veteran. He's interestingly enough. He sent a letter out saying that no one in his staff could use the
Starting point is 00:24:03 word Latin X. When Latin X was a big word, he said, I'm not going to allow that kind of stuff in this. No, but he is soft on the border Gallego. He's not a border warrior. I mean, he says No, he is, yes. Right. And that's the big issue in Arizona. And very Lake is a big border warrior. Anyway, look, it's a
Starting point is 00:24:23 pleasure to talk with you, uh, uh, professor, you're a good guy straightforward. Um, and we'll have you back as we get closer. And thank you very much for taking time today. Appreciate it. Thank you, sir. All right. So, uh, Donald Trump is supposed to be sentenced for his New York conviction, as you know, September 18th, I don't believe that sentence thing's going to happen. I think that the courts are going to block it because they don't want to interfere in the presidential election. And he is appealing to have that done. But here's
Starting point is 00:24:54 a very interesting thing. The judge in the case, all right, is Juan Merchant. Let's get his picture up there. For those of you on a radio, this is a very liberal New York City judge. All right, and there's no doubt about it. No two-sides his story. He's got a daughter, Lauren Merchant, 35 years old. There she is. She works for the Democratic Party. In the first six months of this year, the Democrats have paid Lauren Merchant's company, $13 million.
Starting point is 00:25:29 Let me repeat that. The judge's daughter has been $13 million by a Democratic Party company. Now, if that's not enough to get merchants, everything attached to that case thrown out, then there's no justice in this case at all. $13 million, your daughter? Now, did you know that? You listening to me today on radio and television? Did you know that?
Starting point is 00:25:58 No, you didn't probably because the media won't report it. I mean, it's really staggering. That's upsetting that that kind of thing could happen. Merchant should have recuse himself a long time ago. But it helps Trump now. All right, California has lost $2 billion in income taxes from people leaving the state. This is the largest state in the union, total chaos, from Eureka to San Diego. Okay, this state, and this is Kamala Harris' model.
Starting point is 00:26:37 to govern the country. So, the California Legislative Analyst Office, L-A-O, okay, released its findings two and a half weeks ago. Two billion dollars drove out of state and more to come. Because two reasons. High taxes slash home costs and woke. You can't live in that state if you're not, woke. They'll punish you if you're not woke. People out of that. Five people have been
Starting point is 00:27:16 charged in the death of Matthew Perry, the Friends actor. Okay, you remember this. He died last October 28th, right? So he died from an overdose of narcotics, ketamine. All right? He's a drug addict. Perry is a long-time drug addict. He's taking a lot of ketamine and is one of of his household staff has been charged with injecting him with the drug. But the big headline of this story is a woman named Jasveen Sanga, 41 years old, who's known around L.A. is the ketamine queen and supplies narcotics to movie stars, high-profile people. She's been arrested. Now, it's a federal beef because it's crossing state lines and a whole bunch of others. This isn't local. If we were local, nobody would have
Starting point is 00:28:13 been charged. L.A. authorities, California authorities never would have charged anybody. But the feds have. Okay. And the prosecutor's a guy named Martin Estrada, he's the guy who covered for Hunter Biden, interestingly enough, but because this doesn't have any political context, Estrada went after this guy. All right, so it's a federal case. And the ketamine queen is expected to flip and name all these Hollywood people and doctors who are trafficking in ketamine. Once again, Matthew Perry, you know, I'm very talented individual, but a drug addict. And that's what he was. And it ruined his life and killed him.
Starting point is 00:28:56 While he was alive, he was ruined, and then he's dead. And, I mean, he's 54 years old when he died. And I just can't get this across. There's nothing good in this industry. Nothing. And you know what the excuse was from the ketamine queen? Oh, I don't force anybody to buy ketamine. Okay, lady, I hope they give you 25 years.
Starting point is 00:29:23 I hope you found guilty. Border. So you may know Byron York. You've seen him on Fox News. He writes for the Washington Examiner newspaper. He breaks a story about Jean-Frank. Michael Torres Navarro, one of the worst criminals in Peru. They say he's responsible for 23 murders.
Starting point is 00:29:47 So he's running away from Peru, and guess where he goes? He goes to the southern border and walks across the border. And the U.S. Border Patrol apprehends him and let him go. According to Byron York, and it's true, lets him go. him go. And Peru has got warrants out all over the place. So they finally caught up with Torres Navarro after Peru went wild. And so what do you mean you let him go? And now he's been arrested on immigration and charges. And he's being held in New York, Endicott, New York. But this just goes to show you the most notorious
Starting point is 00:30:35 criminal in the country of Peru walks across the border and the U.S. authorities let him go. Biden administration, Kamala Harris administration. All right, there are new stats out on the border from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. 12.5 million people have crossed in according to them, and there's been much more, because they can't calibrate the ones that just sneak in and nobody gets them. 12.5 million in three and a half years under Biden Harris, wiping out every record by far. And then the media reports, well, we have the lowest number in July
Starting point is 00:31:14 because it's 120. That's why you die in that desert in July, the Sonora Desert. And the Biden administration finally cracked down a little bit. Oh, it makes you so mad. Right, smart life. So this is the best time to become a Bill O'Reilly.com premium and concierge member. Why? Because this election is going to go up and down and in and out, and there are very few media people going to tell you the truth, as I did today and every day. Starting point is 00:33:23 It's day in history, August 19, 1976. President Gerald Ford wins the Republican nomination. nation. It wasn't hard for him to win it. He took over after Nixon resigned, as you know, and he served about three years. He did a decent job. He served actually two years. He's running against Jimmy Carter. So he gets the nomination, and the big thing he had on his sheet was he pardoned Richard Nixon. And a lot of Americans didn't like that. They wanted Nixon to go to prison. okay so for it goes in and a and a pulse back and forth on it you know i mean carter newcomer big smile low you know all that and then i have the debate october six nineteen seventy six
Starting point is 00:34:09 all right this is the second debate and it all turned roll it did i understand you to say sir that the russians are not using eastern europe as their own sphere of influence and occupying Most of the countries there and making sure with their troops that it's a communist zone, whereas on our side of the line, the Italians and the French are still flirting with... I don't believe, Mr. Franco, that the Yugoslavians consider themselves dominated by the Soviet Union. I don't believe that the Romanians consider themselves dominated by the Soviet Union. I don't believe that the Poles consider themselves dominated by the Soviet Union. That was it, because Romania and Poland, who certainly dominated the Soviets and troops there.
Starting point is 00:35:06 Now, you used to lobby a little bit different. That was Tito, but we don't want to get into that now. But that just goes to show you how one gaffe, one moment, can turn it. So Ford loses to Carter. Carter got 297 electoral votes. Ford got 240, so it was pretty close. popular vote. Carter got 41 million, and Ford got 39 million. All right, back with a final thought in a moment. Okay, final thought of the day. Joe Biden is in Neverland. You know that. Not his fault. It's a disease. He's got it, and he's going down tonight. Last stand at the convention, as I said, I'll write a message of the day analyzing his speech. I don't expect much. But Donald Trump's making some verbal mistakes, too.
Starting point is 00:35:55 All right? So he's speaking, as we said, top program in Wilkesbury on Saturday, and here's what happened. Go. And I feel I have an obligation to speak and speak in a certain way and speak a little bit longer. You know, how would you like it? A guy's waiting with his family for three and a half four days. They have a tent, and the tent is set up. They have hundreds of them, and they wait.
Starting point is 00:36:19 And then I walk in, speak for 15 minutes and leave. I don't know. Somehow, would that be okay, North Carolina? I don't think so, right? But he was in Pennsylvania. He may get a good point. I mean, you know, people want to see him, and they spend a lot of time to get in and get close,
Starting point is 00:36:35 and he walks in 15 minutes and says goodbye. We understand that. And I also understand the entertainment that he brings, but he has to be careful about what he says because we used against him. But then he says North Carolina. Now, I would have said that. I just made a mistake two seconds ago.
Starting point is 00:36:52 When you're thinking like this, when you're just riffing, because I don't have a script, I just do it up top my head, you make mistakes, verbal mistakes. But when he does that, then the press go, oh, look at him, he said, you're saying, I'll tell you that. Trump, from me, and I speak to him, very sharp. No other worry about that. Okay. Thank you for watching and listening to the No Spin News. We'll see you again tomorrow.
