Are you ready to find out how to blaze your own trail?
Welcome to the Blaze Her Own Trail podcast with your host, Jordan Mendoza.
In this podcast, Jordan interviews people from around the world to find out about their journey to success.
If you're looking for valuable content with actionable advice, you've come to the right place.
And now your host, Jordan Mendoza.
Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Blaze Your Own Trail podcast.
I'm your host, Jordan Mendoza.
And I've got a very special guest today.
Her name is Kimberly.
And I'm going to have her tell us who she is and what she does today.
Aloha, everyone.
This is Kimberly from the Big Island of Hawaii.
And I have a very vast background.
I am a 21-year retired flight attendant.
I am an award-winning author, producer, director.
I'm sorry, actress, producer, director, and a best-selling author.
That is a ton of stuff.
And I know we're going to dive into some of those amazing things that you've done and things that you're currently doing.
But on my show, this is actually my favorite part, Kimber, is we get to rewind.
We get to go back and learn how you were.
Let's start with adolescent years.
So adolescent to high school years.
Where did you grow up?
And what kind of kid were you?
Were you more into academics?
Did you play any sports?
What type of things did you get into back then?
Okay.
Well, those were probably one of the toughest years for me.
for actually from five to adolescence.
And if you read in my book, Reda Garbage,
it takes you on that very isolated journey
because I was raised with a raging alcoholic mother
and a drug user.
So there were daily beatings
and it was less than favorable
for any child to grow up in that aspect.
So I have no wonderful stories to share with you
at that stage of my life.
But, I mean, just the fact that you said that, I mean, that's value because you've come out
on the other side of that, right?
You've gone through some experiences, some hardships.
I mean, yeah, I mean, that doesn't sound like a comfortable experience at all to deal
with somebody that's abusing you.
And I'm sure there had to be other things that had occurred.
But, you know, I'm a big believer because I've seen some myself that haveversed.
gives a strength. It actually enables us to see through a lens that most people can't even
see through, you know, because we've lived through those types of experiences. So you mentioned
this went on for a number of years. So when did some of this turmoil that you were experiencing?
When did that, when was there a light at the end of that tunnel? And then what did you kind of do
next with your life? Well, it's funny you use the word light at the end of the tunnel because I did
have an experience with the light during those tumultuous years. But for me, it, unfortunately,
my mother's life ended in death. I think I was 18 years old. And two of my brothers committed suicide
from all of the dysfunction. But the light happened to me during a severe beating that I was
getting. And I was praying for some type of salvation, either taking, take,
my mother or take me, but please just end this now. And I found myself standing before this blazing,
glorified energy at the age of five. And it's so hard to express what that did for me. But interestingly
enough, it didn't change my life until 2019 when I wrote my book. I mean, the light has always been there
and my life and I've always used it and I've always called on it.
But to understand its real power was when I started sharing the information about this ability
to access something opposite of what we're experiencing today.
That's incredible.
And so, you know, I would like to because, yeah, you say that you saw this light, right?
And it made you feel a certain way.
So can you explain just for the audience context?
Like what was that feeling like?
Is this a feeling of peace?
Is this a feeling of joy?
Is this a feeling of protection?
Like I would love for you to just share some words of what that was like
because I personally haven't experienced anything like that.
You know, I'm a believer in a Christian.
I'm a believer in faith.
And so I hope one day to have experiences like that.
But I would love for you to just give the audience some context.
you know, at five, what were you feeling?
And then as the years progress, you mentioned you didn't even start sharing until 19 years later.
What did having the ability to access this do for you along your life's journey?
That's a loaded question.
And I'll try my best.
So when I was in the middle of that severe beating, it was the dead of winter in Pittsburgh.
and when I asked to be taken, I was literally transformed from my bed and I'm standing in the middle of
this snowy street in Pennsylvania and I looked down and there's no footprints in the snow from,
I couldn't have walked there. So I just found myself not being cold, not being scared,
not even questioning how did I get here or why am I here, just knowing that I,
I was in a bubble of protection and purity and this ability to communicate without speaking,
but just being engulfed in a pure, understanding, loving, protecting energy.
And I was shown what I was going to do with my life.
So I knew I was going to be a flight attendant and an actor, didn't know I was going to be
author, but the light did tell me or expressed to me that I would grow up in a very difficult
situation, but to always remember that I had the ability to call upon the light for protection,
for guidance, for peace. So for anybody that's out there thinking that I'm somebody special,
we all have that ability to soak ourselves in that energy if we are open to wanting it.
And how do you do that? I would say either through nature, taking yourself in some kind of peaceful
nature and just asking to feel that energy because we all have that ability. Just like right now,
Jordan, we have the ability to call upon all the dark energy. Anything that's out there if we want to
involve ourselves in it, it is that accessible. Well, it's the same thing with the opposite energy.
How much are we willing to give of ourselves to that and be open to it?
That is really amazing.
Thank you so much for sharing that in giving the context of the experience.
And so as a five-year-old and then as the years progressed, what did you attribute that to?
You have had like did you place, did you say that must have been an angel?
That must have been God.
Like, you know, what in your mind was it?
and then, you know, because as you progressed through the years and you kept remembering that you could access this, I would also love to find out, did you tap in and how often? And did you have similar experiences as to one at five when you were essentially teleported from one place to another in the snow without feeling the cold? Did you have any other experiences like that throughout this journey?
No, I never had that ability to do that again or that.
But throughout my experience from when that first happened, I found myself in some really
awful, awful situations because of the dysfunctional background, because of sexual abuse
and verbal abuse and physical abuse and mental abuse.
That's not an easy path.
to go down as you're growing up.
And so you find yourself mixing with that same type of low vibrating energy
and you find yourself in some pretty awful situations.
But with every awful situation that I found myself in,
I was miraculously saved from it with no real effort on my own.
And then let's flip that coin over.
And for all the good that I have experienced in my life,
it came the same way with absolutely little to no effort.
It was like, well, here, you can try this or you can try this.
I'm going to be there for you no matter what.
But it's ultimately your free will, your decision of where you're going to take yourself.
So the energy is for anybody that doesn't like labels.
It's just it's God.
It's your Heavenly Father.
It's the universe.
It's the light.
It's the good.
It's the fairy.
It's anything opposite of what is not light.
And it is out there.
But right now there's so much overpowering that
because there's more people believing in what is not the light.
So we're actually with our mass consciousness producing and creating the very outcome
we don't want to live in.
like when I had a choice.
No, that makes that makes absolute sense.
And so 21 years is a flight attendant.
You have to have to have some stories, right, about, you know, maybe not making some flights
or, you know, having longer layovers than you expected and turbulence, right?
So I would love if you could share with the audience, because 21 years long time, you know,
that's a full career.
What would maybe be your top three memorable experiences, whether they're the good, bad, or the ugly, because I'm sure you've got all three, as a flight attendant.
So interestingly enough, as a flight attendant, I knew that the light had told me that this was what I was going to do.
So I was like, wow, how's this work?
But every, and for 21 years, every time the plane took off and every time the plane landed, I had that fear.
Once we were on the ground, I was like, oh, okay, I can do this again.
But the most incredible thing that for me as a 21-year flight attendant was just to see life from a first class seat,
I was watching religions being shown or practiced without any resistance.
I saw people doing things that were creating a better life for themselves.
I saw all cultures getting along.
It was just when you fly all over the world and you get people in and out of your airplane,
you can easily watch the world what it's doing, how it's reacting, how it's getting along.
And for those 21 years, it was the most fascinating thing to experience to watch.
And now that I'm not a flight attendant, I'm so sad, but I'm glad that I'm not in that airplane
watching all of this go on because it would be heartbreaking.
And what's more heartbreaking is the people that didn't get the ability to see that in the
world are youth because all they're seeing right now is the decline.
And they will never, well, I don't know.
They will experience that kind of life again.
I know it, but they need to know that at one time, it was beautiful.
Yeah, and I love that.
And I actually took my first flight when I was 12.
I was actually grew up in Portland, Oregon, and I was going to D.C. to meet my dad for
the first time at 12.
And I remember that first flight, that first experience flying from Portland to Minneapolis, St. Paul.
And I had a flight attendant that would walk with me to my gate.
and sit with the captain in the cockpit and I got the wings.
And man, what a memorable experience that was.
And you probably in your 21 years have been that person for other people.
And I'm sure you've had some incredible conversations.
Are there any conversations that you've had with any passengers that you'll remember for the rest of your life?
Any like words of wisdom or anything that maybe you learned, any stories that you can share?
Well, I met a lot of wonderful people, a lot of celebrities.
I was able to also simultaneously work for a company called SportsJet that flew all of the baseball, basketball, football team.
So I've been around some high profile people.
One of the most amazing that I had ever met was the Princess of Saudi Arabia and her seven, yeah, and her seven children.
And it was a private chartered flight.
you could just feel the energy of the wealth and the upper echelon feeling of, yeah, they're up here and you're not.
It's just amazing to feel it.
I could also feel, and this is another thing about energy, because I was in the light, I have the ability to feel everything around me.
But I could get on an airplane with one of the sports teams, and I could tell you who was going,
all the way and who would come in last place because of the feeling that they were projecting
with that winning attitude or that mediocre attitude it was just a brilliant thing to feel
and watch that's amazing that's very cool very cool and so why did you stop why did you why did you
Why did you stop being a flight attendant?
What was the next thing, that next venture that you wanted to get into?
Was it starting the book?
Did you feel called to do that?
Or was there something in between?
So there was something in between while I was simultaneously working for the airline.
I got cast in one of their very first, my very first commercial actress job.
And I was a featured flight attendant in their first commercial.
Awesome.
And I got, yes.
And I got bit by the actress.
bug. So I started looking for auditions and simultaneously was competing in Miss Fitness USA.
And I took third in the Western regions, qualified for the USA and got injured nine days before the
competition. It was a career-ending injury for both that competition and the airline because
I had to be able to lift so many pounds.
Yeah.
And I couldn't do it.
Wow.
That must have been hard, right?
Especially not quitting on your own accord, you know, not going out, you know, on your
own thing, but having a circumstance happened to you.
But, you know, knowing everything that you already knew at five, you already knew that
this is part of the journey, I'm sure.
So what was next?
What happened next?
So after that, I just, I was in.
Arizona and Arizona has a wonderful independent film community. I was never drawn to anything
but that because I just love the ability to be creative. The only thing you don't have studio
money backing, so you're basically a starving artist, but the ability to create is endless.
And I ended up in making and being in producing and somewhat.
directing over 40 films.
Wow.
Incredible.
So that's after the life of a flight attendant, I just found myself in the world of acting,
producing, and directing.
And that's where I was currently at until four years ago when I moved to the big
island of Hawaii.
Okay.
So can you share just some of the work you were involved in, whether it was acting, you know,
producing or writing.
You'd love to give just some context of, you know,
what are some of these films or shows about, you know,
was there similarity in a lot of the work that you did?
Can you give some context?
Sure.
So it started out just being an independent film shorts,
anywhere from five to ten minutes.
I did dabble in a few of the feature films early on as an extra
and then was cast as a lead into one of them is Love All Acom.
cart and the other one is oh, it's been so long ago. But anyway, after those, I wanted to expand my
knowledge because in the airline industry, I wasn't just a flight attendant. We worked for the
first deregulated airline in the world, America West, and they taught us all phases of how the
airline worked. So when I got into film, because I wasn't just a flight attendant,
And I was a baggage handler, reservations, pilot operations, you name it, we did it.
And so when I got into film, I didn't just want to be an actress.
I wanted to dabble in every aspect.
That way, you know how to make a good film.
So I directed and produced a couple of film shorts.
And then I was asked to be a producer slash host of the animal rescuers, which was a four-year run.
again independently and our show ended up on voice america.tv so i've i've dabbled in just about every aspect of
that that's cool that's cool and i'm sure you learn a lot along the way so what what spurred the move to
the big island four years ago so in my book greta garbage i i was talked about everything from the
age of five till my move here. But also, too, I want to just state one thing before I answer your
question. There are, it's not just a memoir. It's not just, oh, my life and yaddy, yaddy, blah,
blah, blah. It's about failure, dysfunction, and fear and how to get out of it. So it's only
10% of what happened to me. The 90% of the book is how you can experience.
and come out on the other side of the dark.
Love it.
Yes, thank you.
So I forgot where we were.
That's okay.
That's okay.
So what spurred the big move four years ago?
That's right.
The Hawaii.
So in the book I mentioned being after an adult, you grow up and you think,
I'm out of this dysfunction from my mother.
She's passed away.
I've learned so much.
I'm going to do better.
but some of that is deep in the DNA, some of the dysfunction and the things that you will never
overcome. And I ended up finding myself in an adult relationship with basically some traits
that were reminiscent of my past. And that 18-year relationship ended horribly. And so I isolated for
four years so that I could get this finally healed and okay. And after four years of isolating
just with family members, I decided to go on vacation to Hawaii and I spent 30 days
visualizing my outcome of coming out of my shell, meeting somebody and really living my life
to the fullest. And I was on the island for three hours and I met my husband.
Wow, that's incredible.
That's incredible.
And you so did that through manifestation, right?
Through telling exactly what you wanted.
That's amazing.
That's amazing.
So been with your husband now, married four years, right?
It'll be four years in May.
Okay, be four years in May.
Well, happy early anniversary.
And so, wow, what an incredible journey.
I know that we've only scratched the surface.
So one thing I want to do, audience, if you've gotten value out of this conversation,
make sure the link to her book is going to be in the show notes.
Grab a copy of it.
Because, you know, I have, you know, and it's so interesting, Kimber because I had a complete
opposite experience with my mom.
My mom is the inspiration for everything that I've done today.
She was actually born with one lung in the 50s and survived, was told she wouldn't live past 18,
lived to 54, had five boys when she was told she wouldn't have any kids. So just a miracle
story and taught me a lot about all these things. And so to think that a mom could be the
complete opposite, to me, it's just, I'm like, how is that possible? Right. But you have
experienced that and then had such an experience that showed you that it's okay. You're going to get
past this. You're going to get through this. And now you've written
this amazing book. I haven't read it yet, but I know it's going to be amazing because you're
giving context of the journey, but also telling people how they can get out to the other side.
And isn't that what we all want, right? How do we get from point A to point B? So, listen,
I really appreciate your time. This has been amazing getting to know your journey. You are a
trailblazer. That's why you're on the show. And I'm so appreciative of Mark Victor Hanson,
of connecting us and definitely want to stay connected with you. And if there's any way I can add value,
let me know. Absolutely. Yes. Thank you, Mark Victor Hanson.
Absolutely. And I'll make sure all of your links to your website, your book, all that will be
down in the show notes for the audience so they can connect and reach out. Thank you so much.
And just remember, you have a choice. This or this? 100%. Thank you.
