Starting point is 00:00:01 I had a total of 11 jobs between the age of 11 and 17, just trying to help and support my mom. When I gave away my ATS resume template, but I used to charge $3,000 for it. If I were someone that wanted to work with you, I think the thing that would resonate with me the most is a fact that you have been as far as they will fall. I gave her all my videos, and today she's a message saying I got my first client, and it could not be happier for her. On my show, one thing I love to do is really get context into people's journey. I saw vegetables door to door. I saw newspapers. I do it because they truly care to help.
Starting point is 00:00:38 Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Blaze Your Own Trail Podcast. I'm your host, Jordan Mendoza. Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Blaze Your Own Trail podcast. My name is Jordan Mendoza. I'm your host, and I've got a very special guest today. His name is Jake Havron, and I'm going to let him tell you a little bit about who he is and what he does today. Awesome. Well, thanks for having me here, Jordan.
Starting point is 00:01:01 And, you know, I just, I got to share this before we even dive into that. We're here talking before the podcast. And you could just tell that Jordan is a family man because he has his kids coming in saying hi. He's telling him goodbye. He's getting on a podcast. So Jordan, I just got to acknowledge you on that right away to see how much of a family man you are.
Starting point is 00:01:22 It's just truly incredible. But yeah, you know, my story is quite, quite simple. I didn't come from a crazy past. I didn't have anything where I was like, you know, living on the streets. I wasn't broke going from zero to million. But, you know, one of the things that I believe is also one of the biggest problems is the law of complacency. And I came from a pretty complacent life.
Starting point is 00:01:45 Like I wanted great things. You know, I grew up in Hawaii. And right away, I was, I was the tall white chubby kid. And, you know, growing up in Hawaii where you're the kind of the outcast, I was picked on a lot. you know, people look at me now, they're like, how does that even make sense? You know, I'm 6-6, pretty tall and all that, but that wasn't me in the beginning. And so I learned really quick what it meant to go through the bowling process and go through the lack of confidence and the insignificance. I was the youngest of three, you know, I was picked on a lot too. There was a lot of fighting in our
Starting point is 00:02:17 family. But it led me to who I am today. And that's, you know, really in the nutshell, just like how it all started was just being that little overweight, chunky kid, trying to do great things in life and and finding my way through, you know, looking good and feeling good and helping other people do the same. Awesome, man. We appreciate you sharing that. So if you can give just a little background on what you're up to today and how you're serving and how you're helping people. And then I've got some questions that are really going to help us rewind and kind of get back into those places that you were so that we can help people understand exactly who you are today. Yeah, well, a lot of what I'm doing today, Jordan, and this is where I found a lot of,
Starting point is 00:02:56 a lot of people that I work with currently that maybe are in their own storm is they don't realize that their greatest testimonies today are because of the test they had in the past. And they don't connect those dots. And the only reason why I'm doing what I'm doing today, which is helping people build their businesses, you know, live their dream life, like realize that they could do bigger and better things outside their own box is because I was in that box back in seventh grade. I was 180 pounds. I was 5'8.
Starting point is 00:03:22 I was like I said, that chunky kid. and I had enough of not feeling confident myself. Even though I had no personal development, I didn't understand these things. I could talk on it on behalf of my mindset today. But I had a breaking point. And it was over the summer of seventh grade where I was like, I need to lose this weight.
Starting point is 00:03:41 And so I went on YouTube and searched up all these different workouts. I was doing P90X. If you remember P90X, I was going to GNC, probably getting supplements that are now banned because there was just a while while West back then. If you guys know, you'll know what I'm talking about. Jack 3D, if you ever tried that. I was doing whatever it took. I was eating etymame out of my ears, like a pound of it, like a day.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Like, it was crazy because that was the whole rate, but I lost 40 pounds over a three-month summer. And what happened, Jordan, is I found my confidence because I came back to school and people couldn't recognize me. They were like, who? Like, Jake, what? And that's when I really got honed in on with taking care of my health because I knew that health equals confidence. That's just what it was ingrained for me. And the cool thing about that after Jordan was a lot of people started asking for help. They started saying, well, Jake, like, gosh, your arms are like pretty big. Like, teach me how to do that.
Starting point is 00:04:37 What will work out are you doing? And so I'm just an eighth grader here. But I got really, really like a feeling of significance because I was able to help other people get their goals and their desires, whatever it was. And that's when it all started. And fast forward, I, you know, got a full scholarship to play basketball. in North Dakota. So growing up in Hawaii, if you want to talk about the contrast of life, going from the beautiful beaches of Hawaii to the frigid lands of North Dakota, oh, it's a culture shock
Starting point is 00:05:05 right away. But I went there because I had a promising vision of like playing college basketball and getting a full scholarship and also becoming a nurse. And that's where Jordan, one of the biggest pivots in my life happened. And, you know, whether you're in the health care right now listening or you're in a position that you're not really enjoying, hopefully this could resonate with you because I had to make a big decision in my life. I had to realize it was my senior year of college. I loved helping people. I actually became a nurse because my sister said, you know, she was becoming a nurse and it's a better paying job and, you know, more stability and all the things that, you know, your family wants out of you. And I went for it. And it was my senior year
Starting point is 00:05:47 college Jordan where I was in the ER and working in there and saving people's lives as we do best. And there was a man that came in. He's in his late 40s, you know, decently healthy, but a little out of shape. And he was on the stretcher coming in. He was in a coma. He had a heart attack. And so we're like, all right, you know, we have a heart attack, go through the protocol. He comes in.
Starting point is 00:06:07 We save his life, give him right procedures, you know, prescriptions, do the whole protocol to save him. A couple hours later, his family's in the room. they're mourning, they're afraid, you know, and they can never see their father or their husband again. You know, he comes out of a coma and slowly gets back into it. And he looks at me and, you know, knew I was the nurse and obviously thank me. And but his face was just in such pain and just distress. He's like, Jake, how do I never get here again?
Starting point is 00:06:34 Please let me know what I need to take, the pills, prescriptions, all that. So I go through the entire protocol, Jordan. And I was like, okay, cool. I think I just really helped this guy's life. and they off go off they're happy you know grateful and a couple months go by jordan and this guy comes in i didn't recognize them at first but this guy came in with a heart attack and it was the exact same guy and when i saw that as a nurse as someone that had stability excited like excited to you know make a great income to have good flexible hours to travel around you know i'm helping people
Starting point is 00:07:09 that just ripped me apart and just shook my foundation because I see this person coming in that literally almost lost their family and he's back here with another heart attack. And I'll tell you it's not because of genetics. It's because of lifestyle. And that's where I realize it's like, this isn't for me. I realize I have to make a change because my soul felt a little uneasy. Even though I had to go and save his life again and I did and that's what we did, I felt a little uneasy going home.
Starting point is 00:07:35 And then over time it just led me off a path of like, I want to go through things differently. And that's where I'm here today, where I decided instead of getting people out of the hospital, I'm going to start keeping them out. And I chase my passion of becoming a personal trainer. Then from there, I scaled up. I became an entrepreneur. I realized how do I help more people and not trade time for money? I never knew what a mentor was. And that's where then I got a mentor and it helped me become an online trainer, helping people all over.
Starting point is 00:07:59 I could travel. Flexibility was the life. But then the last part of this, Jordan, just to kind of like wrap it all together of how I got here today was when I, when I realized that I thought I was going to be an online trainer. I thought I was going to help people all the world. I love fitness. But what I didn't know until I got to the point where I was working with these busy entrepreneurs and these traveling people that were going to like these Tony Robbins events
Starting point is 00:08:24 and running multi seven figure successful businesses or starting up their business was they needed their health, but they also needed financial support and they needed stability in their mindset. And when I was able to start giving them like business tips, right? Because people ask me, how do I become a business consultant today? I was just helping them their health, but I was so interactive with them that they're asking like, you know, like, Jake, what do you think about this? Or like, I got this going on.
Starting point is 00:08:49 You know anything? I was giving them ideas because I love business. And then I started to see that this consulting thing really worked out. And then I was like, ooh, let me tape, you know, teeter with this. And now here we are today where I do it full time because of that progression from going from a nurse to a trainer to an online trainer. and then now consulting. So that's just kind of my trail that I blazed.
Starting point is 00:09:09 And I share that because I hope, you know, someone could maybe relate with their progress and realize that, you know, someone's chapter 20 shouldn't be compared to your chapter 2. 100%. Yeah. And I appreciate you sharing that part of your journey in the context. And I've got a bunch of questions that definitely have come out from that.
Starting point is 00:09:27 So let's rewind a little bit. So let's go back to eighth grade. You know, you mentioned that you came back over the summer. you lost 40 pounds, right? Like, first of all, pretty awesome. And I know that had to feel good because I've been the guy that's lost 40 pounds before. You know, and so I know how you feel, how much energy you have, how much focus, how much mental clarity.
Starting point is 00:09:51 I mean, it's a game changer. And, you know, I really could almost feel you walking in that school again with your head held high and that confidence that you had. It was almost like you brought this new level of energy. with you. And what's crazy is I had a similar situation in eighth grade. I wasn't the kid that came back to the school and no one recognized. I was a kid no one recognized because I moved from a few towns away to a brand new school.
Starting point is 00:10:20 And it's funny because that same summer I watched a new movie called Beat Street. I don't know if you've ever seen Beat Street. It's a breakdancing movie. Definitely look it up. You watch the clips on YouTube. And over that summer, I got into breakdancing. And so when I went to this new school, I was like, how do I relate to these people? Like, they don't know me.
Starting point is 00:10:39 I'm the new kid. And so we had an eighth grade dance and the music came on and I just started break dancing. And I was terrible. Like, I probably looked like I was having a seizure. But the energy level that I brought and the fact that I was the only kid that jumped in that circle, I essentially found my tribe. I found my people. And I remember just hearing that part of your story.
Starting point is 00:11:02 And I was like, that had to have been a similar thing that happened. right, where all of a sudden you were kind of at this pinnacle place where you had just been this outcast and now people were looking at you. And then you started to help them and that made them, you know, resonate with you and want to be around you more. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. And that's so funny that you're a break dancer.
Starting point is 00:11:23 I could see like even your hairstyle today, like you have that breakdance vibe. It's all makes sense now. But one of the things that you've really brought up, which is so important, is the energy factor. you're right when you lose 40 pounds i was 13 at the time i don't care if you're 23 33 43 even 63 right every pound you lose even if it's you're pretty in decent shape but you maybe have a little you know spare tire some guys say around their waistline like that's a huge determinant on how much more energy you are having or you're missing out on and if you have to even think about the way your shirt
Starting point is 00:11:56 fits and i know we're going down this whole health route even though it's not what i really do anymore, but it's so powerful. And as we hear time and time again, I'll say warm time, health is wealth, right? Because if you're a multimillionaire, but you're stressed out of shape and frustrated, you're not a multi-millionaire. You're living those emotions. You're stressed and frustrated because money only solves money problems. Money doesn't solve those problems of your body and your health. Yes, you could go get more services or training or nutrition. But if you don't have the mindset to have that consistency, it won't be fixed. Yeah. Right. So going back, that energy factor so huge, right? Energy and motion is equal to emotions.
Starting point is 00:12:38 And emotions is a transference of energy and every single business transaction is emotionally based. I don't care how, you know, brutally manly you are or how, you know, like just cut, dry you are. Every decision you make is emotional. Even if it's like a decision where you get really angry and or you get really confident. that's an emotional decision. So think about the more energy you have. And we'll dive into some tactics here if you want, especially with peak vitality.
Starting point is 00:13:06 But the more energy you have, you're going to attract those people around you. You're going to have more higher level business success. And when you're networking, people attract and gravitate towards you. Because if you're in a sea of 7,000 people, that's how my life changed when I was at a Tony Robbins event. I was in the sea of actually 15,000 people. And I felt so like I almost had that imposter syndrome,
Starting point is 00:13:27 Jordan. I was like, I'm in the front rows with all these successful people. I already know you have to pay like $80,000 a year to be up there. And I got to guess pass to be up there. By the grace of God, it was just just a way it worked. And I was like, how do I give value to these people? Like this guy is like running a stem cell clinic. He's a doctor. He's like mega, mega successful. And I'm sitting right behind him. How am I going to help this guy out? And what I found out is over four days when you live a life with purpose, with passion and you have absolute energy. There's people that maybe don't have as much, do they gravitate towards you? They're like, I want to be around this guy, Jake Moore. I don't know. He doesn't, he doesn't
Starting point is 00:14:04 serve me or anything. That's fine. But he just makes me feel better. And that's how you really start networking. Yeah, 100%. And that reminds me of an acronym I learned in 1999. I was 18 years old. I was doing sales down in California in the Bay Area. And one of the sales leaders goes to a whiteboard. He grabs it. He writes these initials. He writes PMA. and then he puts an equal sign, and then he writes OPM. And I'm looking at it. And I'm like, what is this? What's going to happen?
Starting point is 00:14:34 And he looks everybody dead in the eyes. And he said, a positive mental attitude equals other people's money, right? Because it's a transference of energy. All right, if I'm excited about my product or my service or my book or my podcast or my coaching business or, you know, helping people lose weight, that's going to transfer over to my client and they're going to get excited about it. You ever bought something from somebody that was grumpy, Jake? Like, a really grumpy person came up to you and was like,
Starting point is 00:15:04 would you please buy it? Like, you're not going to buy that from them because the energy's low, right? But when you have high energy, right, it's going to actually be contagious. It's almost like people next to you can feel it. And in that environment with 15,000 people where their vibration is super high, you better believe it. You felt that energy. Absolutely. And I, you know, you're filling me in with who's listening here. And, you know, we got a lot of listeners that are starting up their entrepreneurship or maybe they're at a significant successful level, but taking the next level.
Starting point is 00:15:38 So what I want to really talk about that's very specific. What you share it is this energy factor, but let's take it a two millimeter shift further because this is what I love doing. It's really optimizing people is you don't want to be that person because everyone says, oh, more energy equals better. No, no, no, no, no. Like, because if you don't, you don't. want to be that guy that's too energetic where now you're actually repelling other people away because your energy is way too high, right? You seem like that that's that sales guy that, that, you know, that's out on the car lot. Like, you don't want to be like the guy that's just the peppy dude, right? What I call it is, and you've probably heard of this, Jordan, I'm sure you have, is it's bottled enthusiasm. And what does that mean? What that means is, well, I was at a workshop here just last week in Big Sky, Montana, led group of 15 guys. And it was a very, very, very, you know, a very, very casual workshop. And normally I speak on stages where it's like massive energy,
Starting point is 00:16:29 you know, people going crazy. I'm backstage, getting into peak state. And you go out there and you're just like jumping, dance and getting people route up. Like, that's like energy, right? But you got to read your audience. You got to read who's on the other side of this phone call that you're talking to. And so what I always do and what I'd recommend for every single person is if you don't have a peak state ritual, like literally could take you 20 seconds, you know, whether it's you do a quick prayer, right? I always pray before. I get on every podcast, every single business call, consulting call. I literally do that because I want to set my intentions right.
Starting point is 00:17:01 But especially when I get on to like a stage, a workshop or even, let's say a podcast like this, I go on my trampoline. I have a mini trampoline. Do you have one of those, Jordan? We got the big trampoline. So you got the giant one. I can't do a mini trampoline. I'll probably bounce through the ceiling, you know.
Starting point is 00:17:17 Well, that's the thing is the big ones have even more bounce. So you won't have to worry about that. But at mini trampoline, go on Amazon, it's like 50 bucks, right? what this does is every time you jump on this trampoline, it sends an entire jolt of energy because every single muscle in your body has to fire off. If not, you'll collapse over. So every time you jump, you're actually sending energy through your body. It gets you out of a slump. If you're in a slump like at 2 p.m. You hop on this. And what it does too is when you play music with this, you're just getting yourself into a good state. So what I do is before I get on to stage, before I
Starting point is 00:17:50 get onto a podcast or even a sales call. I get on my trampoline, play one song, a song that really resonates with me, high energy. And I just get into this flow and I'm visualizing. And so now I'm in a peak state, right? And then I pray right before. But what I want to talk about with this bottle of enthusiasm is you got to hold that in there because you don't want to come off and be like, hey, Jordan, I'm so excited to be on
Starting point is 00:18:11 this podcast today. Let's get rock and rolling. Dude, what do you want to talk about today? If you did that on a sales call, oh, man, that's awkward. Right away, you got to see where their energy is at. So you see where their energy is that, and the key is to be basically about matched with them, but just slightly above them, just slightly like one point above them. So you're pacing their energy and what you're going to find out when I went to this workshop,
Starting point is 00:18:34 these guys were chill, they're laid back. They're in their like normal clothes. You know, it was like a 10-hour workshop over three days. Over the three days, they left with high energy. They were vibrant. They were like excited about the things we did, but I slowly paste them. So when you're doing that in a sales call, when you're doing that when you're speaking somewhere, slowly pace it and keep that energy. You don't want to show up with low energy, but you want to bottle it up.
Starting point is 00:18:58 So people are just thinking like, man, this guy Jordan, he's just got something within them. They just like, I kind of like this guy. He's not too much where I'm just like, well, I don't want to hang around with him. He's going to make me, you know, like feel like I'm crazy. But he's not too sluggish where he's like, ooh, like, man, I just feel drained when I'm around him. That bottled enthusiasm, if you can pace people slowly and always show up in a peak. state before every single sales call or every single session you have with a client, I'll tell you, that's going to be the game changer where people are going to start to say, man, that guy is really
Starting point is 00:19:27 changing the game for me. I really feel a difference with him. I love it. That's really, really great advice. And, you know, it kind of attributes to reading, right, reading the room, reading the people, reading the situation, and then finding a way for you to relax a little bit, right? Because if you are in a high state and you don't relax yourself, I think that's a point of prayer or meditation or deep breath work, right? Like, whatever it is for you, I think everybody's different, right? Something might not work for me that work for Jake and vice versa. So, figure out your thing, but, you know, read, relax. And I always think about relating. Like, how do I find a way to relate to each of these people and meet them where they are, right?
Starting point is 00:20:08 Right. That's so important that we can meet people where they are. So I appreciate that advice, Jake. Folks, if you don't have a notepad out by now definitely get the notepad out definitely get the notepad out you got to be taking notes and you know i was at a conference a couple weeks ago and and got to see some amazing people speak john maxwell uh dave melzer anthony trucks a guy that really impressed me the most jessie itzler was i mean the lineup was crazy but i heard this guy speak jake called uh his name's gary brekha i don't know if you're familiar with gary or see the vitality guy yeah yeah and he yep the stuff so he just partnered with grant cardone
Starting point is 00:20:46 with his new 10x health. So this guy said something, man, and I was wearing my notepad out. Like everything he was saying, it just made sense. And one of the statements he said, I feel like this will resonate with you a lot, is he said that aging is the aggressive pursuit of comfort. Yeah, I saw a lot of people.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Re-share that. Yeah, reshare it. Man, like, how powerful is that? And I would literally think about it and think about, like, how even I parent sometimes. and then like he really just put it into perspective for me that you know the more comfortable you are the weaker you become because you're literally comforting yourself away from your body operating the way that it's supposed to operate so he like he like did all these like tests and he gave everyone this challenge he's like listen every day when you wake up I challenge you just put the shower on cold like let it run especially early in the morning and then get under that sucker you know you you know, in your birthday suit and just stand there and he's like and just deal with it for 60 seconds. And I was like, all right, this guy's nuts, but like, I don't know why, but I really feel like I was being called out here.
Starting point is 00:21:57 So I'm going to try this. And bro, when I tell you, when you do that, the like energy that I had that day, and I'm not talking about like I drank a cup of coffee energy, but the sustained energy and focus and mental clarity, it was crazy. So I'd love for you to share your take on that. is that something that you recommend to people? And then if you've done it, like how euphoric is that when you do it and how game changing is it? Yeah, yeah. Let's bring out your note pad right now.
Starting point is 00:22:26 We're going to go over a lot of little vitality hacks. I love giving very granular things because, look, our time is the most powerful commodity and the most valuable. And I don't want to be here just, you know, giving you rah-rah type of talk, right? So if you guys driving, take notes on your phone, if you're sitting down, write it out right now. But yes, cold therapy is one of the things that I do every day. Now I do things, I do a little different, right? Because I'm actually in the process of getting a cold plunge, like tub.
Starting point is 00:22:53 So it stays cold. You just go in there. You have no excuse, right? Not everyone has that availability to have that. So what I do is every, actually every shower in general, not just in the morning, but anytime I shower, I always do like a nice warm shower. This is just what works for me, right? Because some people are not able to do a cold shower.
Starting point is 00:23:10 That's cute, Jake. Just deal with it, bro. So what I do, though, is I shower. I'm like warm, you know, you know, clean myself everything. And then the last two minutes, I just turn that sucker completely cold, no even thinking, no like teetering it. It's just completely cold. And then I embrace it.
Starting point is 00:23:27 And then that's when I, you know, embrace the suck. And what it does is it's just like you said, it flushes your body. Not only has it so much like immune benefits, not not so much like health benefits, but it actually for peak performers, you want to do this because. you are going to set yourself into a more of a peak state throughout the day. The cold shocks your nervous system. It wakes up basically every cell of your body. So now you're vibrating at a higher frequency.
Starting point is 00:23:54 When you vibrate at a higher frequency, people feel that. And you could give off higher frequency emotions. If you don't know it or not, this is not woo-woo anymore. This is just fact. Every single emotion has a frequency. Like, just like when you're tuning a radio station. And the highest frequency emotions are joy, gratitude, compassion, right? Purpose is a high frequency like living on purpose. And so when you admit that more,
Starting point is 00:24:20 you're going to allow other people to feel that. And you're going to also attract that back. Right. So the more that you can hack your vitality, which one is the cryo, the cryopunge or the cryotherapy or, you know, cold plunge. Another thing I tell people right from the get go is right in the first five minutes of your morning, Jordan, you should be drinking 20 ounces of water. What if I told you that literally by drinking more water in a specific time of your day, you're going to burn more fat. You would probably be like, when do I drink it? Where do I drink in how much? Right. Well, it's really, I'm severely lacking in this area. So I think you're probably preaching right to me. Well, Jordan, you're going to be the greatest testimony because then a couple weeks down the road when
Starting point is 00:25:01 you do a podcast with someone else, you're going to be like, you know what, guys, I did what Jake said a couple weeks ago. I'm feeling better. I'm actually losing a couple pounds. But what it does is 20 ounces is a threshold. What that means is when you drink more than 20 ounces, your body hits a thermogenic threshold, which means that you basically kicked up the furnace in your body because it has to warm up all that water. And you're now burning a study show up to 16% more calories throughout the day. So think about that. That's a couple extra 100 calories for most people. That's pretty awesome. Not only that, so you're not only burning more fat by drinking more water, but now you're engaging your entire digestive system right from the beginning because you got to think about when you're
Starting point is 00:25:44 sleeping you've been you've been fasting and dehydrated for eight hours you know or five hours for some people that don't get much sleep what sleep is guys you heard a time again i don't have to say about that but you're not only hydrating your body which means your brain is working more effectively because your brain's over 70% water and even one percent dehydration on your brain causes mental fatigue brain fog like it's just a small little shift So if there's one thing you could do is just drink 20 ounces in the morning, you'll feel better, you'll look better, you'll be less bloated. If you have that kind of soft look around on you,
Starting point is 00:26:19 it's because you're not as hydrated. So your body holds on to water. When you drink more water, your body says, oh, okay, we're hydrated. We can release this water. We're trying to hold on. And you'll look, you'll look tighter. You'll look more healthier, but not only have you can have more energy. So drink 20 ounces of water.
Starting point is 00:26:35 Another thing I challenge people with is your phone. okay this is so important and trust me it's it's hard to uh not do this or it's it's easy not to do this as i should say i should say you should not be looking in your phone for at least the first 30 to 60 minutes why is that so important let me speak to the entrepreneurs here if you're an entrepreneur listening right now like seriously perk your ears up you want to create your own life right you want to create a life on by your design as i say create your dream life you have to think creative you have to think expansively. You have to put time and effort to your own life, which I'm sure ultimately will help other people's lives. That's you being proactive. If you look at your phone within the first
Starting point is 00:27:18 30 to 60 minutes, your brain is going to go into reactive mode. You're automatically looking at other people's successes instead of your own success. You're automatically judging other people's good and bad instead of judging your own good and bad. And you could be a great human, but you when you're on there, you're naturally getting snapshots of other people's lives. And you're not looking at the snapshot of your own life, right? So what I recommend is turn your phone on airplane mode when you go to bed. Don't worry. Your phone, your alarm could still go off. But airplane mode is so important, Jordan, because your phone, even if it's not on airplane mode and it's like away from you, it still has Wi-Fi and 5G and Bluetooth going through. Like, it's still on, correct?
Starting point is 00:27:59 Like, unless you completely turn it off. But if you turn on airplane mode, what it does is it cuts all that off. And there are studies that also show that just those Wi-Doolew. Wi-Fi and all those, the radio waves, it disrupts your sleep and actually causes you to get worse sleep. It doesn't allow you to get into a deep restful sleep. So turn your phone on airplane mode. Turn your phone on do not disturb so you're not hearing pings and buzzes and beans and bongs, right? And then what I do is I plug my phone far away from my my bedside. It should not be on my bedside, but it's on my desk across from the room. That way, even when I get up, the first thing I'm not enticed to do is look at my phone. I know this is very grand. I know this is very
Starting point is 00:28:37 granular. This is a lot, but sometimes we need to hear step by step processing to actually do it because we've heard time and time again, don't look at your phone in the beginning. Don't get on social media. And then the last thing I do is, is a morning routine. And if you don't have a morning routine, I suggest getting something. It doesn't have to be an hour long. It doesn't have to be something where you're literally feeling like it's a burden to do. If you don't have 10 or 15 minutes in your life to do something that benefits you, then you really don't have a life. And if you say, well, I got to wake up at 5 a.m. and I got this and I got that. And that's great. But if you don't find time for yourself, then maybe it's not really the best opportunity to be an entrepreneur for you
Starting point is 00:29:15 because you're not willing to give yourself enough time to work on yourself. And I look at Jordan morning routines. And is it okay if I go on to this? I know we're going on a lot here. Yeah, no, this is good. This is good. We're going to get back and circle around to some of the other stops. But this is good, right? This is practical advice like Jake said. So for those you that haven't, already got your note pad out. A couple of you thought about grabbing it and you're like, it's too far. Well, feel free. Go grab it because he's going to give you some more practical advice.
Starting point is 00:29:45 And again, the whole point of the show is to provide value to you that are listening to this. So this is for you. Buckle up. He's got some more tip. And then we're also going to get some, got some good questions for him about basketball because he did that in college. And I'm really curious about some of his thoughts there. So sit tight.
Starting point is 00:30:05 Grab your notebook. Absolutely. Well, and I share this, Jordan, because I do these every days because it allowed me to have a successful business. People look at health and they don't see success in business to see as two different things. But if you have more energy, more focus, more vision, your business will be more successful. So don't put this off saying, I already know what a morning routine is. Ask the question instead, because the quality of life is your quality of questions. Ask the question, how can I better optimize more in morning routine?
Starting point is 00:30:30 How could I better get more energy? How can I increase my efficiency to be from great to extraordinary? These are the questions of high-level entrepreneurs who do not put this off here because morning routines, you got to look at it as like the bookends of your day, the morning and night routine. And a lot of us, especially through these past two years, we've gone through a lot. Some people lost their income streams. Some people lost family. We're just living in stress and fear if we even turn on any social media or news.
Starting point is 00:30:59 It's a lot, Jordan. And what I say is that you want to look at your life like the books on my bookshelf here, right? and those books are your life and all the chapters in between. But if you don't have no stability on those ends, anything could come through. There could be a gust of wind. There could be a little mouse scurrying around the books. And all your books could fall down. And that's what your life is like if you don't have stability in the front and end of your day,
Starting point is 00:31:24 some bad text could come through or some fire in your business comes through. Because you haven't built the stability in the morning and the night, your whole day crumbles. And you'll say, I'll get to it tomorrow. or like, you know what, you're so flustered. The stronger your bookends are, the more stable you are. So even if the biggest gust of wind comes by, you can handle that and you have a better mindset. So the morning routine right away, if you don't have one, I recommend just going on YouTube right now.
Starting point is 00:31:51 One of my greatest mentors, and I'm sure you know of him too, is Tony Robbins. He's completely changed my life in the best way possibly. He's allowed me for me to see bigger and greater things, going to his events, allowed me to network with bigger people. But he has a video on YouTube called Tony Robbins. Robbins priming, P-R-I-M-I-M-G. It's a priming thing. And what it does is it physiologically, mentally and spiritually primes your body all within 15 minutes. You don't even have to think. You just sit there, put that in your ears, you do some breath work, you do a little bit of gratitude,
Starting point is 00:32:21 you do some visualization, you do a little bit of prayer. And in 15 minutes, you're set for the day. I do that every single day, Jordan, because it sets me for success. And it's consistent. And it's every single morning because there's a new thing I can be grateful for. there's a new visualization I need to remember and be reminded of. That right there, if you have nothing else in a morning routine, is that, and then I get on my trampoline, and then I go on with my day, right? So morning routine, get that set up. And then a night routine, we could talk about that maybe another time.
Starting point is 00:32:50 But I share this with the people listening here, you guys listening, because if you have a stability in your front and back end of your day, the middle of your day, which is life and business and networking and success, you will be at a higher performing state. And when you're at a higher performing state, there's more exponential abundance that come through it. I love it. I love that you shared that.
Starting point is 00:33:12 And I'm a big believer as well as if your foundations are right, it makes your life a lot more stable. So having those foundations in place, that was one of the biggest things. Like when I knew I was going to jump in full time, when I knew I was about to turn in that two-week notice to my boss that wasn't expecting it because I was going to go blaze my own trail.
Starting point is 00:33:33 I knew that those were things I had to get dialed in. I knew that I needed to wake up and be in prayer, meditation first. That has to be the first. Then I had to spend time with my wife. And then it was spend time with the kids. It was all of those things prior to doing anything business related. Because if you can do that, then I knew that was going to set the tone for the rest of my day. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:33:56 And it's so funny. This actually literally just came to me. We were talking about before the podcast about getting downloads. And, you know, if you are in tuned and you are aligned with your own purpose, your own calling, whatever you believe in, right? I believe that there's, there's these, downloads that come. And one of the downloads that was so interesting is, you know, blaze your own trail, right? When you left your job and you put your two week notice to blaze your own trail, one of the most important things you said is to get right with your meditation,
Starting point is 00:34:25 your mindset, your prayer. There's a lot of us listening right now that are trying to blaze our own trails, but what's happening is we're not creating a trail. We're creating just some sort of path that leads to nowhere because if you don't have intention, the purpose of a trail is to get you to a destination, but have an amazing experience and view on the route, right? If not, it's just, it's a path. It's something that maybe it could lead you off a cliff. It could be one that not many people walk on, but if you're going to blaze your own trail, you have to have clarity of where you want to go. And a lot of us are just showing up and being very reactive, even if we're not looking at social media, because we're not setting the
Starting point is 00:35:04 standards and reminding our subconscious and conscious mind where we want to go, Jordan. That's why morning routine is so important. You have to visualize that three-year goal because sometimes when you get caught in your own storm, if you don't have that vision, that North Star, you're not creating a trail anymore. You're just creating a path that's now going offward. And no one wants to go on a path that's going not to the destination they ultimately want, right? You go on the Oregon Trail. You know where you're going to be showing up. Yep. It's not called the Oregon Trail for a reason, right? So that's just something I really just want to make sure people understand as they blaze their own trail is morning routines and even night routines when you're doing your productivity list.
Starting point is 00:35:42 I recommend at the night before you go to bed, write the five most important things that the next day you need to accomplish with no if ends or butts. You do it the night before because when you wake up in the morning, your brain's not in the same state. It'll take longer for you to do that. But if you write that the night before, now your brain is going to be able to sleep on that. This is just science. Once again, I'm not trying to go woo-woo, but your brain sits on it because just like how if you fall asleep watching a movie, most times that goes into your dream, your brain likes to find answers to questions and problems. That's why whenever you ask a question, and if you're asking an internal question, Jordan, that says, you know, some people don't know this until they're 40s, but it says, you know, why am I always a failure? Or why am I not able to get to that next level success, right?
Starting point is 00:36:26 It's called their internal question. your brain will always find ways to say, well, you're always give up, your failure. You know, like your, your mom left you when you're seven, your dad left you. You're always going to find answers. That's what your brain does. So if you start giving it better questions to ask at night, especially if you say, you know, get these tasks done. So now your brain is thinking on it.
Starting point is 00:36:46 But I learned this from Jim Quick. And this is another night at time routine. So write this down is there's three questions I always sleep on before I go to bed. Literally when I close my eyes, I think about these for less than one minute. it's just enough for the brain to start working. It's three parts. It's the first one is what. The second one is why.
Starting point is 00:37:06 And then the third one is when. So whatever you want to work on, whatever you want to think about, whatever you want to achieve, you ask that first part. So you say, what can I do to grow my business consulting company? What can I do to help more people?
Starting point is 00:37:22 What can I do to achieve my dream life? What can I do to finally break that millionaire status? whatever it resonates for you, just ask that and let it sit in your mind. Like literally, I do this when I lay in bed, I close my eyes and I sit that in my mind. I repeat about two or three times. Sometimes an answer comes up. Sometimes there shouldn't be an answer because your brain will sleep on it. That's more of a strategic question. The second one is the why, which is more of emotional question. Why do I want to grow my strategic business consulting company? Why do I want to achieve millionaire status.
Starting point is 00:37:55 Why do I want to create my dream life? Whatever that second part, you put that in there. Now you're getting the emotions. Now your brain is thinking in a different compartment of its abilities. And the last question is when. And most times this question will be obvious. It'll be like, well, I could do that right now or tomorrow morning. But your brain will also get a location because your brain loves specificity on location
Starting point is 00:38:18 and time. Right. So when you say, when can I start creating that? that dream life. When can I start growing that business? When can I achieve millionaire status? When you ask those three questions at night, it takes you less than a minute, you'll have better dreams first off, but you'll wake up with more intention because it's a lot of it's subconscious. You can't even think about it, but you're going to start to see things align more in your life. And that's just a fact. That's not no craziness out there. And I hope that's
Starting point is 00:38:43 something that, you know, if one person implements this Jordan and they start noticing some differences, shoot me a message on Instagram because I'd love to hear that. I love it. I love it. I love it, man. And I think that's going to be help for a lot of people. Definitely, folks, this is going to be one of those episodes that you want to bookmark, you want to rewind, you want to rewatch or listen when it gets posted. So I've got a couple of questions here. Let's shift our topic back to sports because you mentioned leaving Hawaii and going to frigid, cold, North Dakota, which is a complete culture shock. So there's probably a half hour conversation we could have just around that. that level of change alone, but I don't want to focus on that. What I want to focus on is, you know, getting a full ride scholarship to go to go play basketball. You know, what did that mean to you? And did you have aspirations to potentially take that to the next level? And then, of course, we know the rest of the story that you did go end up going into nursing. But I'd love to just find out from you, was that an easy decision or a hard decision? That's such a great question.
Starting point is 00:39:51 And I'm glad we could talk about this because this might be another wake up call for a lot of people. Of course, I wanted to play pro basketball in the NBA since I was second grade, right? And I was very good at basketball. I was tall, you know, unfortunately in high school, like I was hindered a little bit because I was the biggest kid in the entire basically like island. So I was automatically a center when I'm only 6-6, which if I wanted to play D1, that's like, you know, shooting guard, right? So, you know, it just made me where I had to become a center. And so I got a full scholarship as a Division II basketball team, which was incredible, an incredible team. We went to the championship a couple times.
Starting point is 00:40:33 And what I learned from that is I really found out where my calling was on how much I wanted to play basketball. And this was the dilemma. And I didn't realize this until about two years ago, right? Basketball was about five, you know, to eight and eight or nine years ago is. I wanted to become an NBA player because of one thing. I wanted to be significant. It wasn't because I had the true passion.
Starting point is 00:41:00 And I'm just being completely honest right now. It's not because I was the last one always at the gym. I was a hard worker. I'll tell you that. Like, I loved hitting the gym. I loved pumping weights. But I wasn't the one that was waking up at 4 a.m. to do these things that you need to be an NBA player.
Starting point is 00:41:14 And I realized that I wanted to just be significant because I was so insignificant growing up. And this was my ability to say, look, world, I made it. This guy that was a nobody, Jake, he was picked on, like the island of Maui, which is where I grew up, could root for me now. And now I'm like the hero of the, like, that's what I wanted. And that was not something that's sustainable. And a lot of us in business are doing business because of those reasons. And what I found instead is that, because what happened is I graduated college, went back to Maui and there was this Hawaii pro basketball team that came up and I didn't even share this with you but I'll share it right now in they were it was the first time ever they're playing in the Feeba League
Starting point is 00:41:58 big time international league and I was like okay cool I want to play this and they already filled out the roster one of my high school friends was playing on I was like well I didn't get asked I was pretty bummed so I was all right well that's my only chance whatever two two months go by and there's their preseason happening and they say hey we need an exhibition team to come play. They're called the Hilo Hammerheads. And we need to come play. And you want to play on the exhibition team. And I was like, you bet I do. And so I had vengeance in my, my heart. And so I go over there. And it's a back-to-back game. And I'm playing against guys that are coming over from other professional leagues, the Filipino league, you know, but these guys are like 6-10,
Starting point is 00:42:36 dunking off like just like not even trying, can shoot threes. Big guys, I'm 6-6. These guys are 6-10, lanky, 6-8 can jump out of the roof. And I just had that tenacity to me where I, the first game, I scored 32 points and 17 rebounds. The second game, I came back and scored like 26 and 14. And I just, people were like, what the heck where this guy come from? And the coach came up and he was like, Jake, he was like, dude, he crushed us. Like, you know, like, what the heck? Where did you come from?
Starting point is 00:43:04 Right? And he was like, you want to play for our team. And I was like, I thought you guys' spots were filled. He's like, no, he got one spot left, whether he was telling the truth or not, but it worked. And I signed a contract. And my life was about to change there here. And just to kind of wrap this all up, two weeks before the, I signed the contract, it was amazing, getting paid to play.
Starting point is 00:43:25 This was before entrepreneurship. This was back in late 2017. Two weeks before, the coach, like, went missing. Like, he kind of just dipped. No one knew where he went. He went rogue. The season's supposed to start. We don't hear from him.
Starting point is 00:43:39 People are, like, flying over, like, where we go. Like, long story short, the guy just left. It was just total mess up, like just crazy. I was devastated, though. You know, I was supposed to play pro. This was my chance. I was so devastated. And what happened, though, is after like a week or two,
Starting point is 00:43:56 just kind of being bummed and like, what do I do? You know, just get back to my fitness routine and such. That door closing is what opened up to me becoming a personal trainer, which started my entire trajectory of entrepreneurship. And that would have only happened. And I'm so grateful for this moment because now, I realized that I probably wouldn't have gone super far with the NBA and all that because I wasn't really in it. I wanted significance. I just wanted to be on TV and I probably would have got complacent.
Starting point is 00:44:22 But now I'm on a purpose and a passion that I blazed my own trail that is so much further and so much more fulfilling because of that door closing. So if someone's going through a tough time right now and you realize that maybe, you know, a door's closing with a relationship or doors closing with a business or you leaving your W-2 job, I just highly, highly, highly recommend just first of all, get quiet with yourself. realize that, yeah, it is probably a tough time right now. But really let your mind simmer, meditate, do your morning routine and think about where you want to go and think about all the possibilities that could come up. Because I couldn't even imagine what I could do now today three years ago when I started this. But I can only imagine what three years from today will look like.
Starting point is 00:45:03 I'll tell you, it's a wild, wild journey out there. And when you have purpose and you're serving and giving massive value, anything is possible out there. And that's how I showed up here today because my door. up being a professional basketball player closed, which could have been the biggest tragedy for anyone else. And it could have been still to this day. But I made a decision to pivot. I love it. I love it. Thank you for sharing that story. And I know that a lot of people are definitely going to resonate with that. I know for me, I've had a similar thing happen. You know, I'd just lost my mom in March of 2012. And I was in a fog, man. I was literally going through the
Starting point is 00:45:38 motions. And when I think back, I don't remember driving to work. I don't remember getting home. It was just literally going through the motions. And during that time, I got a demotion. And I remember it's kind of sending me down this kind of deeper spiral. But what I learned in that is I got to work with a new team. I got to kind of stop thinking about the pittiness that I was giving myself. And during that time, a new role came open that I probably would have never looked at if I was in that other role with this other bigger responsibility. Does that make sense?
Starting point is 00:46:12 And so because I was there and I got this demotion at the darkest time in my life, it kind of showed up at the right time and I was able to apply for it, even though in my head everything told me I wasn't qualified. I wasn't going to get this role. But something just said, you know what? You've at least got to make the attempt, you know, because really the only failure is, as you've heard, is not trying. That's really where failure lies.
Starting point is 00:46:38 But I was willing to just say, you know what? let me go bed on myself. And then I was in that role for eight years. And it taught me so many things about myself that where I really started to understand who I was and where my strengths were. And that enabled me to go leave. And that's the only reason we're having this conversation. So yes, folks, sometimes the door closed is the best door. Right.
Starting point is 00:47:02 It's sometimes that door is the best door for us. We never realize it in the moment because hindsight is always 20-20. but if you can realize the lesson you learn from a closed door, man, there's so many doors that are going to open for you. Absolutely. And your story right there is the epitome of what I say is if you want to go and dunk a basketball, you got to first go down and squat low, right? And you squat it low.
Starting point is 00:47:27 You had the demotion. Most people think, well, you're going lower and further away from the hoop. But that was that moment where you're gaining all that power, that knowledge, that wisdom. And then you just explode it off and now you're dunking. So that's literally what your life was. right there. That's it, man. Well, hey, you know what, this has been great learning about your story and journey. I really appreciate the teachable moments because that's where the massive value is going to happen. Like you said, if there's one person that watches this or
Starting point is 00:47:53 listens to this and actually take some of these tips and applies it to their life, their life is going to change for the positive. You know, so I appreciate you being vulnerable, sharing your story and your journey. And I'd really love to just kind of give you the platform now, Jake, you know, let everyone know what you're up to. Let them know where they can find you. And we're going to make sure we link all of that down in the show notes as well. Awesome. Well, it's been an absolute pleasure. And if you're listening to the very end here, then you're one of the very few, right? Some people listen to the first minute or 10 minutes and then they stop. So if that's the case, then shoot me a message on Instagram. I love connecting. I know you do too, Jordan. I love connecting
Starting point is 00:48:31 with every single person. I'm not the type of person. Even though I have like a bigger following on social media, I'm not the type person and says, hey, I don't talk to messages. It's not how works. Shoot me a message. I'd love to hear what stood out most, and I'd love to share those also with Jordan on that. And then if you want to learn more about what I do, how it can help, whether it's in your business, whether it's working with your teams, just go to jcaveron.com. J.cavron, H-A-V-R-O-N.com. And that's where you can find out all the info on there. Awesome. And we are definitely going to make sure that we put that down in the show notes. And folks, this episode is sponsored by DaySlice.
