And welcome to Your Voice. I'm Randall Canfield. Our phone lines are open, as always, and we are very eager to hear from you. Our topic today. What else is beating the heat? It is officially summertime, and with the summer comes, as always, some degree. of heat. Maybe you're someone who is successfully beating the heat this summer. We want to hear
Starting point is 00:01:10 from you. Maybe you're someone who's not beating the heat at all. Maybe you're someone who has a novel, new, interesting way of beating the heat that you want to tell us about. We want to hear from you. Maybe you're someone who's relying on some of the tried and true methods of beating the heat. We also want to hear from you. Maybe you're someone who's beating the heat in a way now that you didn't used to, and you're happy with the new way of doing things as an improvement over the old way of beating the heat. We want to hear from you.
Starting point is 00:01:39 Maybe you're someone who has fond memories of beating the heat in the past, or someone who has predictions about how we'll be beating the heat in the future. Whatever your position on beating the heat, we want to hear from you. Our topic today is beating the heat, and our phone lines are open.
Starting point is 00:01:58 First caller. Who are you and where are you calling from? Hey, Randall, it's Gary. I'm calling from Ocean Adventure Theme Park. Ocean Adventure Theme Park, what is that? We love to listen to your show between dolphin sets. Oh, my goodness. I'm a dolphin trainer.
Starting point is 00:02:16 This is fascinating. I don't think I've ever spoken to a dolphin trainer before. Is it true that they're as intelligent as people say that they are? No way in hell. Oh, they aren't, really? They're actually, I mean, well, it's a little calumet and a little. a column B, if I'm being honest. Can I ask you to compare them to a dog intelligence-wise?
Starting point is 00:02:35 Because I have 19 dogs, and I know them very well. I wish you wouldn't ask me to do that. Oh, no, what do you? You don't want to compare dolphins and dogs intelligence? Comparison is the thief of joy, Randall. Wow, I've never heard that before. Marcus, can you write that down? I keep track of interesting quotes that we hear on the show.
Starting point is 00:02:53 Did you get that? Yeah, that could be a future topic. I suppose. Do you guys do talk picks on this show? I'm sorry, what? Do you do talk picks on this show? Let me ask, Marcus, did you, what did you say? Talk pick would be something like my dinner with Andre that is a lot less action, but a lot of talking.
Starting point is 00:03:09 Okay, no, we don't do those on this show. Have you ever discussed talk picks on the show? I don't believe we have. When we're not listening to your show on our breaks at the Ocean Adventure theme park, we do watch a lot of talk picks. Okay, very good. Now, what is your topic, your take on beating the heat this summer? There's no better way to beat the heat than sitting in the front row at the door. Dolphin Splashdown show.
Starting point is 00:03:30 Oh, please. We say this all the time. Please don't call in promoting a business. Don't call in getting people to come to your business, please, okay? This summer, it's two for one, Fourth of July weekend. So that's very promotional language, you understand. That sounds entirely like a commercial, and we don't do, we ask people, when you call in, please don't be promoting a business.
Starting point is 00:03:52 $5 off parking if you bring a Sprite can. Why would that be? It's a promotion. With Sprite. you ask for promotion? No, I don't want promotions at all. Okay, but you're saying it sounds like if you sit in the front rows of the Dolphin show, things get pretty splashing. They do a lot of flips and jumps and then they splash on you. And you can get wet. You will get wet. You may get soaked. Okay, so that's great to know. And actually, that does sound like a pretty good way of beating the heat and a reasonable price. But folks, please don't call in and promote businesses, okay? Kids under eight are free. Don't say anything. All right. All right, folks, and also, and also,
Starting point is 00:04:29 seriousness. We can't have it. We can't. Because part of the issue is that we would then have to reach out to every other competing business and give them equal time. We're not running for office. We're a theme park. But that's nonetheless, that's our policy. Next caller, who are you and where are you calling from? Hey, what's going on? My name is Jerome, or I'm calling for Little Rock, Arkansas. Jerome. How are, is that what you said, Jerome? Yeah, I did. I said Jerome, yeah. Little Rock, Arkansas, that sounds like it's got to be one of the hottest places in the country. It really is hot, man. Let me tell you how hot it is.
Starting point is 00:05:05 Okay. I walked in on my wife having an affair, and they were so sweaty. Oh, no. Jerome, I'm so sorry. Yeah, I'm sorry, too. I thought the air conditioning worked, but it seems like it didn't. The heat must have took it out. But Jerome, you walked.
Starting point is 00:05:26 It sounds like that must have been a traumatic event for you. Yeah, I did because I was. walked in and I was like, why is it so stuffy in here? You know, I thought there would be more of an airflow and it was not. Okay, okay. But so your first indication that the, something must have been wrong with the air conditioning, was how sweaty your wife and this other gentleman were? Oh, man, you should have saw it.
Starting point is 00:05:46 It was, it truly was like they had jumped into a pool first. I couldn't believe it when I caught them and they got up, obviously, because they weren't supposed to be doing that. Like the sheets and stuff were soaked. It were soaked when they got up. I was like, oh, my gosh. Like, how hot is it in here? Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:02 It sounds like you were, it's interesting to me that you were so focused on the heat in that moment. Because as you say, they weren't supposed to be doing that. No, not at all. That is not something that we agreed on of our marriage. Okay. Well, Jerome, I'm so sorry to hear that that's how you found out that your air conditioning was broken. I don't, I really want to ask you more about the affair. That seems more important than the, but our topic is beating the heat.
Starting point is 00:06:28 So what have you done to address? the air conditioning situation. Well, I asked them when they started, were they already sweating? They said a little bit. And then when she was like, don't you have anything else to ask me, I was like, I mean, I'm not an air conditioning guy.
Starting point is 00:06:47 You know, I just kind of do it as a novice. So then I started to be like, all right, well, what about our sheets? Do our sheets, do you think that they can do some more heat? So you were. wanted to know, first of all, did they get sweaty because of the activity or was it hot before they began the activity? Yes, that's exactly what I wanted to know.
Starting point is 00:07:10 And I'm sure you also must have wondered because you must have been pretty hot. You said it was stuff when you got in there. It really was. I had to take my hat off. You didn't. And I suppose you must have wondered whether that had something to do with the activity that had been happening in the room or whether it was hot anyway. Yeah, like sometimes even asking them, I was like, well, did the heat make you guys do this?
Starting point is 00:07:31 Yes. And then they were like, no, we've been doing it for a while. And I was like, here in this heat or just in general? And they was like, well, this is the first time we've done it here. And this is probably the hottest place that we've done it. And I said, damn. It sounds like this affair has been going on in all sorts of temperatures in different places and things.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Yeah, that is also my assessment also. Okay. You say that you're sort of a novice in air conditioning? Yeah. Yeah. So you've been servicing the system? Yeah, my own, for sure. I tried to do my old neighbors one time, but then she passed away before I could finish.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Okay. All right. I'm sorry to hear that. Jerome, that sounds very difficult. Well, how are things now with the air conditioning and with your marriage? The air conditioning better. It's a little cooler in here. My marriage devastating.
Starting point is 00:08:23 Okay. All right. Well, I'm so sorry to hear that, Jerome. That sounds like it was absolutely traumatic. but sounds like for you mostly because of the heat. Yeah, mostly because of the heat. I'm going back over to the place because obviously she kicked me out, but I'm going back over there to see if I get finished to get the AC.
Starting point is 00:08:41 I don't want to be hot in there. I don't know why you say obviously she kicked you out. I think that that was... Again, I do want to stay on the topic of beating the heat, but it sounds to me like you didn't have to leave. I don't quite understand that. We both decided she suggested, and I've fought very little.
Starting point is 00:09:00 He was also like, yeah, I think you should leave, man. It's like getting a little tense in here. And I had to agree. Okay, all right. All right. Well, you're an extremely reasonable, man, Jerome. And I wish you the best of luck with everything. Next caller, who are you?
Starting point is 00:09:14 Where are you calling from? Perry Henderson, Oro Valley, Arizona. Wow, that sounds, if possible, even possibly hotter than Little Rock, Arkansas. I tell you what. Luckily, my wife is not had an affair on me in my eyes. hot place. Okay, well, let's not make any commentary on the life of the earlier caller. He sounds like he's got things hard enough. Oh, I agree. I'm just saying I'm lucky that as I was listening to go, and thank God my wife hasn't had an affair on me in my hot place. Okay. All right. So, but you're,
Starting point is 00:09:43 how are you beating the heat, Perry? Um, well, for me, the first thing you got to do is you stop BAM out of bio. Uh, at the end of the day. I didn't understand any of it. You got to stop bam out of bio. He's a big man. But as far as the heater, concerned he is the center of the offense and also the defense. Then it's about Hero, who plays Hero Ball, Tyler Hero, of course. I don't understand any of the words you're saying, you said I had to stop Bam, I had a bio. You got it, man. What is so confusing about that?
Starting point is 00:10:12 What is that? Bam, Atabio, the center on the Miami Heat. You stop him first. Oh, now I understand. This is a basketball player? Yeah, yeah. It's your topic, man. Yes.
Starting point is 00:10:28 I know that, I know. I got this radio on this stage. The topic is beating the heat. Why are you talking to me about that? The Miami Heat. They're unbeatable in the regular season. Obviously, they don't have the star power they used to. I see.
Starting point is 00:10:41 Okay, so this is a bit of a misinterpretation. And I guess I wasn't clear. I tried to be so clear about what kind of caller we were looking for, what sort of perspective we were looking for on the topic. Our topic today is beating the heat in terms of... That's what I'm saying. I know you think you are. You stop Bayam out of bio first.
Starting point is 00:10:58 Perry, Perry, we're not talking about the Miami Heat. I understand that, yes, they're a basketball team, and when they play other teams, the other team is trying to beat the heat. So we agree. We do agree with that. So at the end of the day, Coach Spoh's unstoppable.
Starting point is 00:11:13 He's got, he's been in the league for a long time. He's a smart guy. So you're not going to out-coach him. You've got to go for the players and you've got to stop them first. Perry, I'm sure you're right about all of them. Thank you. But our topic today, our topic today is is beating the temperature,
Starting point is 00:11:31 the atmospheric temperature that comes about in summertime. That's the heat I'm talking about, not a Miami basketball team, Perry. Go swimming. Thank you, Perry. Thank you. All right, thank you very much. I'm sure I hope the members of the Miami
Starting point is 00:11:49 or the other teams that are trying to face the Miami Heat were listening to Perry because it sounds like his advice was good. But not on topic today. Our topic today is, beating the heat, not the basketball team. Next caller, who are you? Where are you calling from? Hi, Wade, Halmachoff.
Starting point is 00:12:04 I'm calling from Los Angeles, California. Oh, hello, Wade. That's in Southern California, isn't it? Oh, yeah, yeah. Real hot. Man, what a character that last caller was. That fella there. He was so confused, and I'm looking back now on what I said in the intro.
Starting point is 00:12:19 If I gave anybody the... It wasn't. No, it was all him. Oh, man, he's calling from outer space, huh? No, I don't think. he was, Wade. I think he was, he said, I take him in his word that he was calling us from Arizona. Okay. But I think he was a bit confused about the topic. Okay. And I don't want to suggest that he was lying to us about where he was calling from. Wait, how are you beating the heat this summer? Well, I think that's the thing. I don't think you can beat heat for an LA crime drama. I think maybe the town comes close, possibly killing of a Chinese bookie. But by the time you've got De Niro and Pacino, oh, face to face. in a diner for the first time in cinema history
Starting point is 00:12:59 of great American actors. I just don't know. I have to tell you, I'm getting frustrated. Oh, Wade! Oh, you think there's a better movie? Maybe the town? Miami Vice? No!
Starting point is 00:13:12 Ten of thieves. I haven't even seen that film. Wade, our topic today is beating the temperature in the summertime. In the summertime, temperatures get higher and it gets hotter outside. I mean, I think the only thing I can get close to with that is diehard 3 because it's... Wayne, we're not talking about films.
Starting point is 00:13:34 Summer in the city, back of my neck. That's a great song. Paradise City. That's a great song that is pretty close to our topic. Oh, thank you. We agree. So maybe one way of beating the heat, Wade, here, I'm going to work with you. One way of beating the heat would be to go see a move.
Starting point is 00:13:53 Well, good question because, you know, there's a lot of heat, too. in development right now, and they're talking about recasting a lot of these characters. Okay. Yeah? Well, wait, given that our topic is beating the temperature of the heat, not finding a better film than heat- starring to Niro.
Starting point is 00:14:09 You're not going to do it. I mean, first of all, it's Michael Mann. Oh, my God. It's also top-tier Michael Mann. I personally, I'd put Miami Vice above that, but that's not an L.A. crime project. Okay, but the entire love story between De Niro and the young girl that he meets me is entirely
Starting point is 00:14:24 unnecessary and implausible. There's no emotional connection between those two characters whatsoever. Excuse me? She works in a bookstore and lives in a very expensive... Why would she be dating him? And who cares what's going on with Pacino and his wife? I can't get dragged into this. Okay.
Starting point is 00:14:40 Because he's Neil McCauley and he's reading a book on minerals and she notices he's reading a book and there's a connection. There is no chemistry between those two actors whatsoever. Wade, I've got to end the call and I hate to do it. She's got a great ass. Good. Next caller, who are you? and where are you calling from our topic is beating the temperature, the high temperatures of summer. Hello, Randall. I'm Gray Masterson.
Starting point is 00:15:05 Hello, Gray. And I'm calling from Kansas City. Gray, I appreciate that you're taking the tone down a little bit, but things have been getting a little, not to employ a pun of any sort, but heated. I'm a recently retired weekend meteorologist on KLBT. Oh, my goodness. Well, a fellow broadcaster. It's a pleasure to speak with you. wonderful to speak with you and may I say you have a sonorous and wonderful voice.
Starting point is 00:15:29 I usually work weekends because my energy's a little low. Okay. That's fair. I see. Sort of holidays and weekends. More of a weekend and holiday energy that you're bringing. Can I just tell you something? Yes, please.
Starting point is 00:15:44 Don't ever quit. It's going to keep you alive. Thank you. Don't quit this job that I'm doing? They made me retire. Oh, they did? And I didn't want to. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:54 I'm sorry to hear that, Gray. Yeah. Okay. Well, what are you up to now in your retirement? Dreaming about doing the weather on television. Oh, you were a television man. Yeah, weekends and holidays. I see. Okay, but you're a meteorologist.
Starting point is 00:16:09 If somebody called in sick, I'd come in. You would, okay. I wish I could come in again. Well, but retirement is the dream, isn't it? I have nothing to do. Well, first of all, I really want to get to your perspective as a meteorologist because we are talking about the heat and the temperature. And there must...
Starting point is 00:16:25 Barometric pressure. What? Barometric pressure. Yeah, what is that? Sunday, we're expecting some showers, hardly cloudy. Oh, no. Are you still keeping track of the weather like a meteorologist would? Of course.
Starting point is 00:16:38 Oh, this is the saddest thing I've ever heard. I'm so sorry for calling. No, it's all right. My wife can't take it anymore. She doesn't want to listen to it. Are you giving your wife like a five-day forecast? That's all I know how to do. Oh, Wade.
Starting point is 00:16:53 Not wait. What's your name again? My name is Gray. All right, Greg. Hi, Gray. K-L-B-T. Gray, our topic today is beating the heat, and I'm desperate not to be dragged off the topic,
Starting point is 00:17:03 but I do want to just suggest to you some hobbies. Jigsaw puzzles. Crossword puzzles. Adopt a pet. Oh, no. A habitat for humanity. You could build houses. I could.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Yes, Gray. You could take up golf. I'm 89 years old. Okay. I don't want you. you building a house, Gray. Gray, I wish that you could just enjoy your twilight golden years. I wish I was still on television. In relaxation. Well, gosh, I said it was the age spots. Oh, have you got a lot of age spots? There wasn't enough makeup to cover about it. Well, I find that hard
Starting point is 00:17:43 to believe. I think they were lying to you. There must have been some other reason. It's a good thing we're on the radio. Gray, why don't you give us the five-day forecast just like the old days and really bring it. Really bring the heat, Gray. Well, today we're expecting highs in the 80s. I'm going to cut you off. It's just not a very, your energy is extremely low. That is true, and it's not a great way to hear about the weather.
Starting point is 00:18:11 All right, but thanks for calling in Gray. Next caller, who are you? Where are you calling from? I want to suck on toes. I'm sorry, what? I'm sorry, you want to. Sorry, sorry. Freaky Pete from New Jersey.
Starting point is 00:18:24 I want to suck on toes. Did you say sneaky Pete? Freaky Pete. Oh, Freaky Pete. I'm sorry. I apologize. So our topic today is beating the heat, and did you say you wanted to suck on toes? Yes, that's exactly what I said.
Starting point is 00:18:39 I want to suck on toes. Oh, okay. How, Pete, does that help you beat the heat? Maybe if you put the toes in ice, put them in ice before. and then that's when you didn't, but after they've chilled, you suck on them a little bit. Okay, all right, we really are asking people, it sounds like that's an afterthought. It sounds like you called in to tell us that you want to suck on toes regardless of the eat. Yeah, yeah, Freaky Pete, New Jersey, and I suck on toes.
Starting point is 00:19:09 Anybody at their listening that's in New Jersey, no, I suck on toes. Okay, I don't, that almost qualifies as a promotional message. But not quite, but it is off topic. have to acknowledge, Pete. First toe suck free. You can't tell me you're going to charge for the additional toes after the first toe. I mean, you've never had your toe suck by me. But once you do, you'll be ready to pay.
Starting point is 00:19:36 Half off with a Pepsi. I heard that other guy, and I was like, maybe I need to do some deals, too. Half off with a Pepsi. I'm surprised to hear that you charge people to suck their toes, freaky Pete. I don't think that's fair. Well, I charge them, but they don't never pay. Some people just, some people just, Toes sucking dash.
Starting point is 00:19:55 I see. There are some people who like to have their toes sucked. Is that the case? Oh, yeah, you'd be surprised. Really? Yeah. I am surprised. And I'm also surprised that you really like sucking toes.
Starting point is 00:20:08 I didn't say I liked them. Oh, you what? Then I don't understand. I mean, it's what I do. But you don't like doing it? I mean, sometimes. But every toe isn't great. Oh, I see.
Starting point is 00:20:18 Some toes are better than other stuff. Wait a minute. The topic is beating the heat. I want to get back to the topic. It is very interesting to hear from someone who wants to suck toes. But can we get back? How are you beating the heat this summer? Freaky Pete?
Starting point is 00:20:32 Okay, imagine then you've just come from a pool, and the pool is not heated, so it's a cold pool. A cold swimming pool. Then you get out the pool, and your feet are cold. And that's when you go for it, putting it right in your mouth. Sometimes chlorine can be good for you. Sure. But sometimes you don't even realize it.
Starting point is 00:20:53 Okay. Is that a way that you're beating the heat? this summer, or is that a suggestion that you would make for other people? Swim in an unheated pool. And then after that, the other stuff is incidental to beating the heat. But to swim in an unheated pool would be your advice? Yes, I'm innocent. That's the most important part to me.
Starting point is 00:21:09 What's the most important part? The toes. Of course they are. All right, freaky Pete. What else are you up to this summer? I'm still trying to get the, I'm still trying to get the thesis for my novel down. You're writing a novel?
Starting point is 00:21:32 Yeah, but before I write, I've got to get my thesis about it first so that I get kind of just jump into it. Your novel is going to have a thesis? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. I wanted to make sure that I knew what I was writing about before I started writing. That's a great idea. What can I ask?
Starting point is 00:21:47 What is the thesis of your novel? Yeah, it's about a space ranger who's going through space trying to figure out which alien life forms have the best suckable toes. They say right what you know. Yeah, they sure do. I suppose there's an audience out there for that. Oh, you would be surprised. And I would definitely sell it as, you know, on the shelf of my toe-sucking business as well.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Oh, you have a toe-sucking business? Oh, right. Oh, yeah, yeah, I have an O-C. Yeah, yeah, I have an O-C. You don't have a break in mortar. Oh, no, you can't come to it right now. Right now outside of my grandma's basement. but I'm trying to, if you know, you suck a little bit more,
Starting point is 00:22:23 I'm trying to be able to move it into a different part of town. Okay, okay. Well, I say good luck to you in all of your pursuits there, Freaky Pete. To beat the heat, please do, as he suggests, and suck on cold toes. That would be Freaky Pete's suggestion. Next caller, who are you, and where are you calling from?
Starting point is 00:22:43 Hi. Hello. This is Steve. Hi, Steve. Marcus Wilson. I'm at 1532. Oh, Steve, please don't give us your entire address because you're broadcasting out on the radio, and I don't know if you want visitors.
Starting point is 00:22:59 I thought it was weird that you wanted that information, but I wanted to be on the air. Okay, no, I'm sorry. I thought I was just saying, you know, you could give us the city or the town or whatever. Well, I am in Chicago. Okay, very good. Illinois. That's fine. Yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:23:14 We know where Chicago is. Hello, Steve. Hi. How are you and how are you beating the heat this summer, Steve? Well, I'm a 43-year-old man who my whole life had body shame, so I would never go swimming. Okay. But I learned something, and I want to give this tip to the young body bad people. Body bad people?
Starting point is 00:23:37 Body bad people. So we don't say, you know, there's always new words for people of size. And right now it's body bad people. I have not heard that term before now, Steve. But you're saying that someone of size? Yes. Okay. People of size.
Starting point is 00:23:53 That's an old way of describing such a person and the new way of describing it as a body bad person. Yeah, you would probably in your era have said fat or obese or overweight or morbidly obese or chunky or hog-like. I've used all of those terms, yes. Body bad people is what we're saying now. And my advice for you is when you go swimming, put on a white t-shirt. Okay. And don't take it off, and nobody knows that you're not comfortable in your body anymore. Okay.
Starting point is 00:24:24 So your advice is if someone is ashamed of their body or is self-conscious about their body, a good way, they don't have to stay away from the swimming pool. No. They can go to the pool, which is a great way of beating the heat. Yes. And they can wear a white t-shirt into the water. That's right. And you can have that tip for free.
Starting point is 00:24:47 Well, that's wonderful. Now, I think if I see someone getting into the pool in a white t-shirt, I am going to think this person is ashamed of their body. Wouldn't you? Oh. No, I would think because you can't, well, you can't see under the shirt, so I wouldn't know what to think. Steve, have you ever seen a photograph of yourself in a wet t-shirt?
Starting point is 00:25:17 I suppose not. No, I suppose not. Let me get in the shower. down. Let me take a selfie and we'll just see. You're going to do it right now? Well, I'm wearing a, I'm wearing a great tea. Can you hold? I guess I can hold. I think it's worth it because Steve is under the impression that wearing a white t-shirt in the pool will conceal the shape of your bad body from everyone in the pool. And I think it's a good idea here on the radio to disabuse them of that notion, if possible. I got a, just so you know, I got a little nervous here because the shower was not running for
Starting point is 00:25:50 some reason. So I'm using top toilet bowl water. Okay. Just because I don't want to waste your listeners time. Did you say top toilet bowl water? Yes. Out of the tank and the top? No, the upper part of the bowl. So I didn't get all the way down in there. It's the surface level. No, I understand. But we could call off the experiment at this point. I think I don't want, I don't want to. I don't want you covered in toilet water. I've dropped my camera in the toilet just so you know. So it's going to be one moment here. No, it's all right.
Starting point is 00:26:20 I don't think it's worth it anyway. I'm starting to feel badly. Your suggestion is a good suggestion. You had a good suggestion. People should wear a white t-shirt in the pool. For sneaky Pete, or freaky Pete, sorry. Yeah. Maybe the thesis could be love.
Starting point is 00:26:35 That's a great idea. I don't know if he's still listening, but it sounds like he knows just what he's doing with that novel. And I don't remember where thief takes place, but I prefer a thief to heat. I can't think of which one is thief. Chicago. Oh, that's why you like it.
Starting point is 00:26:52 Oh, yeah. Okay. Well, thank you for your advice, Steve. God bless you and God bless America. Thank you so much. I really appreciate that. And on behalf of America, thank you as well. Next caller, who are you?
Starting point is 00:27:07 Where are you calling from? Because it's a sandwich, not a taco. Hello. Hello? You're on the air. Oh, hi. It's your voice. I'm Randall Canfield. Hi, Candice Klesmer out of Steamy Valley, California.
Starting point is 00:27:19 I, Candace, how are you? I'm well, thank you. Steamy. Wait a minute. Are you really from Seamy Valley? No. Yes, I'm having a little fun. You are having fun.
Starting point is 00:27:30 Well, all right. How are you beating the heat this summer? It sounds like Seamy Valley, even though it's called Seamy and not steamy in reality, it is still a hot place. Right. Well, what I like to do is get in a full Indian headdress and a zero-piece bathing suit suit and just go out in my backyard. It has no fence.
Starting point is 00:27:47 And see what the neighbors are up to. down, take a sunbathe. A zero-piece swimsuit? Uh-huh. That sounds like it's not a swimsuit at all. Oh, now he's got it. Candace, are you saying that you'll go out into your yard in the nude with a full Indian headdress on? That's right. And does that cover any of the parts of the body that we expect to be covered in a polite society? It's a little bit form over function, but I think that's worth something. Well, what are the... I'm trying to understand. I suppose you can be nude in your own. own yard. Yes, you can, and it's your choice to have a fence. Okay, but do you ever get any
Starting point is 00:28:24 complaints? I've had no complaints. I put a suggestion box up, and I've gotten only anonymous cheers with no jeers. One fellow, or I assume it's a fellow, did a sketch of me. Oh, really? Yes, isn't that nice. How did you like the sketch? It was good. You thought it was nice. Yeah, I tend to oil up with baby oil and use it. I don't use a lick of sun cream. Okay. So I'm, um, let's see, what shade would I be? Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:28:52 Have you, oh gosh, it's like, have you ever been to restoration hardware? Certainly I have. The darkest leather. Oh, my goodness. Really? Yes. Okay. Yes.
Starting point is 00:29:03 And are you, are you a, a Gemini? Well, are you a Gemini? Yes, I am. Yes, I guess. I'm wondering, what was your sort of original color to begin? with. Oh, it was a sort of Norwegian translucence, I suppose. Before you began this aggressive
Starting point is 00:29:19 tanning process. Are you concerned at all about... Being a Gemini? No, not about being the Gemini at all. Are you concerned at all about skin cancer or various other ill effects of exposure to the sun? Well, I haven't had any yet, so I don't know why I'd be concerned. Okay, well,
Starting point is 00:29:39 only because you could be concerned about something that might happen in the future. Oh, no, I don't have, I don't understand causality. Okay. People call me a cat because I just live so much in the moment. I don't really dwell on the past, and I'm not even aware of the future. Okay, but to be clear, you're not a cat. No.
Starting point is 00:29:59 Okay, very good. I'm a naked lady. Are you calling us naked right now? Yes. Oh, my goodness. I'm not wearing a headdress, so. Candace, what would you do if someone, if one of your neighbors did complain? What would you do if someone said, I have children for a child?
Starting point is 00:30:13 instance and or something like that or I don't want to see you nude in your yard. I can. You're asking me about the future. Exactly. So it hasn't happened. It hasn't happened. It can't happen if it hasn't happened. Oh, no, it can happen. No. There's no precedent for it. No, things that haven't happened yet can happen in the future. Are we beating the heat or are we juggling philosophy here? Oh my goodness. I didn't bother. I didn't know you're so intellectual, Randall. I don't know what you're doing later. Are you married? Well, no, not anymore. Are you You're a Gemini? I'm not a Gemini.
Starting point is 00:30:45 I have two twin boys and 19 dogs. Two twins, that's a Gemini. No, what did I say? Two twins. Yes. Oh, okay. That's a Gemini. They're twins.
Starting point is 00:30:54 I don't understand what you mean. Well, a Gemini is there are two people. One person's two people. One person is two people. Well, thank you, Candice. And I appreciate your method for beating the heat. They're getting nude in your backyard. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:08 Well, thank you. Next caller. Who are you, and where are you calling from? Hi, Randall. this is Daniel and I'm calling from Winnipeg and I'm pretty pissed off because last week I got cut off when we were talking about summer fruits and vegetables. Yes. And I went down to my farmer's market and I was going to say that snap peas are a great thing to buy at a farmer's market. Yes.
Starting point is 00:31:29 And whoever runs your phones cut me off. Marcus runs our phones. I do. I remember this. I remember this. I was right in the middle of a thing about heirloom tomatoes. Yes, I remember. And I was about to mention snap peas.
Starting point is 00:31:41 And I just got hung up on. I know. I've been waiting all week to just let you know. I'll do it again if you don't hurry it. Okay. The issue, I think the issue then was that it sounds like we're going to have the same issue today is that you in that call, you were talking about a previous call. And we really need you to just be, talk about today's topic, which is beating the heat, okay? Let's just forget about that last topic and that last call.
Starting point is 00:32:11 Well, of course. I can do that. Very good. All right. Today's topic is beating the heat. I don't have any opinions on that. Well, okay, but it doesn't need to be an opinion, but maybe an experience or a perspective or a point of view. Well, you could eat snapbies to beat the heat.
Starting point is 00:32:28 You're going back to the previous call in the previous topic. This was the problem last time. Well, refresh my memory. I feel like last time I was calling in because I had already called in about summer vacation plans. That's right. And then you said we're talking about fruits and vegetables today. You were, you had called. And I had just been to a farmer's market, luckily for me.
Starting point is 00:32:48 But I live in Winnipeg. It's very mild here. Of course. So I don't have to beat any heat. I don't have a bit abrupt. Marcus, that was a bit abrupt. I just don't want him calling back again next time, angry about what happened this time. I just couldn't bear to listen to it anymore.
Starting point is 00:33:03 You've got a real thing about him, Marcus. I do. All right, all right. Next caller, who are you? Where are you calling from? Hello, I'm Erica. I'm calling from Little Rock, Arkansas. Oh, my goodness, you're our second caller from Little Rock, where we've already learned is very hot in the summertime.
Starting point is 00:33:16 Yeah, I'm calling because my husband I'm separated from right now, said I should. Oh, he did? Wait a minute. Did your husband call into this program earlier? Yeah, Jerome. He said, yeah, he said he had a good conversation with you about heat, and he said that I should give you a call because I got a lot of opinions on heat. Okay, very good. Yes, we did have a good conversation with Jerome.
Starting point is 00:33:34 He is your husband? Oh, we're separated right now for reasons I won't get into. No, actually, I should tell you that Jerome did get into the, it's somewhat, actually, in the call. Wait, what did he tell you? He was mostly focused on the air conditioning, which I understand is not working. Oh, yeah, right now. Like, me and a friend were very hot when we were in our place. I won't tell you what we were doing, but just know it was very active.
Starting point is 00:34:02 He did tell us. He told us about that, yes. Wait, he told you that? Okay, look, I don't want to cause any problem with that. Hold on one second. Jerome. Jerome, did you tell the people our business? Jerome, you thought of people our business?
Starting point is 00:34:15 I'm sorry, if I may speak on Jerome's behalf, he was really just trying to make a point about the air conditioning and the heat in the home. And along the way he did mention, just to help illustrate it, help us understand how hot it was, that you were having a sexual intercourse with someone outside the marriage, and that that was the clue to him that it was too hot in the home. Well, it wasn't my fault, you know.
Starting point is 00:34:38 Okay. It wasn't my fault. You have to understand. I was, sometimes you get lonely. Right, of course. Yes. No, I understand that.
Starting point is 00:34:47 So, Jerome, what did you tell these people? Like, you have to understand, like, have you ever, have you ever,
Starting point is 00:34:55 are you married? I was married for a time, yes, but I'm not now. And did she cheat on you? Oh, well, I don't want to get into
Starting point is 00:35:01 my personal business at all. Here, Erica, I prefer not to, but I'll just say, I'll just say sort of obliquely that I understand some of the issues that it sounds like are in your marriage. Okay, well, you imagine, imagine coming home and you want to touch from your husband,
Starting point is 00:35:16 but all he wants to do is tinker around with the AC, or tinker around with the cable box, or tinker around with the car AC. There's got to be some other way of handling a situation like that rather than taking a lover and then leaving town and leaving your husband to raise two twin boys and 19 dogs all by himself. No. There's got to be another way, Erica. What? We don't have all that. We don't have all that. Jerome, what do you tell these people? What do you tell these people? We've got 19, 19, dog. Erica, I'm sorry. I apologize. He did not say that you had 19 dogs. I'm bringing some of my own things to this phone call. But our topic, Erica, is beating the heat.
Starting point is 00:36:05 Do you have any point of view on what to do in the summertime when the temperatures are really getting? up there. Well, I'll tell you one thing, if it's really hot, then you might not want to have intercourse. Okay, that's good advice. Okay. What would you say could you designate for us, perhaps a cutoff temperature beyond which you might not want to have intercourse? Well, I can tell you right now, sometimes when times get really steaming, you know what I mean? And, you know, sometimes it just you can't beat it. You can't, what exactly can't you beat? Your urges. Oh, I see. You're adult urges. Okay, I understand. All right. Well, Erica, Hey, can you do me a favor? You seem to have my husband's ear. Can you tell him,
Starting point is 00:36:49 can you tell him that he needs to move back in here? You'd like him to move back in? Yeah. I mean, he's my husband. Yes, of course. I won't grant him to divorce. You won't? No. Okay. I don't believe in that. Okay. All right. Well, you know what? I'm entirely dependent on Jerome calling me. I don't have a way of reaching out to Jerome. Is he there now? He is. He's in there fixing, trying to fix the air conditioning fully. Well, if you wanted to put him on, I could do this. I suppose, but I...
Starting point is 00:37:18 Jerome, come here. Come here. Come get his phone. It is off topic. I'm sorry, but to our listeners, I apologize. Hello. Hello. Who is this? Who is this? Oh, this is Randall Canfield from your voice. Oh, what's up, Randall? How you doing, man?
Starting point is 00:37:32 I'm very good. It's nice to talk to you again. This is unprecedented, as a matter of fact, to talk to someone twice like this. But regardless of your wife called. She said that you should move back in. She doesn't want you to leave. She doesn't believe in divorce. We didn't get into whether she's going to keep that lover or not. But it sounds like she wants you to stay.
Starting point is 00:37:52 Hey, I thought another way to beat the heat, by the way. Oh, great. Fantastic. That's even better. What? You can go to a deli. How, okay, how can that help you beat the heat? Well, I was on my way.
Starting point is 00:38:04 After I called you, I was on my way over here to fix the AC fully because I only fixed it like halfway. Okay. But I stopped by a deli because I was hungry. And guess what? It was cold in there. Okay. Well, that's a great suggestion.
Starting point is 00:38:15 If your own home is hot, you can go to a place of business that will reliably have air conditioning and spend some time there. Yeah, I thought so too. I was like, man, I should call him again. But then I was like, he don't want to hear from me again. So then I got here, and I told him my wife, I was like, you should call him to that show because you know about beating the heat and stuff. And then she was like, okay, so she called the store.
Starting point is 00:38:35 She called, yeah. She called, I don't remember what she was originally calling in for. forward to tell you the truth, but we did get into the issues in your marriage, and she would like you to stay, Jerome. Which, she really? She would? Yes, she would. Wait, you would? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:38:59 Oh, Jerome. Oh, okay. All right. Hey, please. I'm so sorry. Okay, all right. It sounds like the two of you are making up and, oh, no, please, Jerome. No, I'm not going to disconnect this one. Marcus, I need you to disconnect the call. No, I want to hear this one out. Marcus, please disconnect. Oh, no. It has a middle, beginning and an end.
Starting point is 00:39:19 Oh, yeah. Weird. We should not be listening to a couple having injured. I'm so sorry. Record. I'm so sorry. Whoa. Sorry, I made you cheat.
Starting point is 00:39:30 I'm sorry I made you cheat. This is terribly intimate. I'm so sorry, I made you cheat. I'm going to bring all the collars back on. Oh, Mark, this is terrible. Terribly intimate. I could get in. What do you mean you're bringing all the collars back up?
Starting point is 00:39:42 Snap peas are an average. This is sexier than De Niro and Amy Brennaman getting it on. There is no chemistry between those two characters. I didn't even mention Jaime Hockas. He's coming up very strong as a third year. All right, folks, that's all we can really tell you today about beating the heat. I think we've explored the topic as fully as we can. Best of luck to Jerome and Erica and to all of our callers.
Starting point is 00:40:07 We will see you next time. Your voice is brought to you by. Andy Daly with Matt Goorley. It was mixed and edited by Mark McConville, an executive produced by Andy Daily, Matt Goreley, and me, Randall Canfield.
