Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey guys, welcome to the Killing the Tea podcast. This is Gare and Kate. And we are going to be discussing all things, chills, thrills, and kills. Kate and I are going to be talking about our favorite books, TV shows and movies that are in the thriller or crime fiction genre, as well as some reading habits and other items related to how we met on Bookstagram that will fit in with this podcast. So, Thank you so much for joining us, and we hope that you have fun and get totally terrified. So, Jen Shaw's going to jail. Six and a half years. Six and a half years. People, that podcast I was telling you about, I was listening to them today, and they were talking about how they need to have a real housewives ultimate girls trip with only with housewives who have mugshots. And I thought that was pretty funny. Um, I guess, you know, people have been saying this for years, but PSA, if you do illegal things or if you do shady things, just don't go on reality television.
Starting point is 00:01:18 Don't go on a reality TV show. That's what they were talking about, too. They're like, how delusional do you have to be to be like, I should get national attention right now? Yeah. You know, what's really interesting, too, is that. what's her name? Teresa Judice Like I don't think that she knew what was going up
Starting point is 00:01:38 Like what her husband was doing I don't either And now it kind of makes sense to me Because I feel like her like What her ex-husband now Joe Judice was just always an asshole on TV And it makes more sense because he's like I don't want these cameras in here
Starting point is 00:01:56 I don't want attention on our family Yeah it makes a lot more sense shady business, shady deals. Shady, shady stuff. Yeah. And Lisa, Lisa Rina is gone. It was a big week for Bravo. Lisa and Diana are gone.
Starting point is 00:02:15 Oh, Diana too. I didn't see that. Yeah, they announced it. But then Andy said that he hopes that one day Lisa Rina will come back. Well, there's that. We'll see. The show needs a villain. That's what we'll have to see.
Starting point is 00:02:31 I enjoy a villain. I enjoy a villain on reality TV. Like, my favorite reality TV star growing up was Kristen Cavalry. Like, I love a reality TV villain. I don't like a reality TV bully. Like, when you were punching below the belt and you're, like, doing all of these things to continue to play that role, we'll call it. Yeah. Yeah. It's gone too far. I have to agree with you. I will not be. He was too much this last season, even the season before, actually. But I think her head got a little too big, something. I'm glad she's gone. Yeah. Yep. See you later.
Starting point is 00:03:16 Goodbye. Yeah, it's been a wild week. A lot of twists and turns in Bravo. Yeah. Yeah. Speaking of twists and turns in television. Yeah. I've been dying to talk to you all week.
Starting point is 00:03:32 I know. I was like adding I was adding them to my list all week long and I was like this is gonna be so cool I just love how we come on here to talk about all of these topics and then like we never talk about them outside of the podcast
Starting point is 00:03:46 we're just like sending each other TikToks and making each other laugh. Yeah. And like to my like experience like this is just like peak friendship. I agree. I have to agree. It's my favorite kind of friendship. The Marco Polo's and the TikTok
Starting point is 00:04:02 talks and then like the podcast like the contrast between all of it i just it cracks me up i cracks me up and i just i was like dying laughing when we were marco poloing this weekend yeah what were we talking about this weekend specifically um how my dumb ass drove to a freaking grocery store and it was like shitty weather and i was like that was terrible that wasn't the best idea i've ever made yeah but it was oh and you did find it we did find it we did trying out more about the Idaho murders. We were talking about that, too. Yes. Yes. The probable cause, the probable cause affidavit is out. I don't even know. Yeah. I, there's a lot of people on TikTok, you're a small PSA for this. There's a lot of people on TikTok talking about this.
Starting point is 00:04:57 And I think that what a lot of people don't realize is that a probable cause affidavit is just the police basically saying these are the reasons we think. this is our guy. And one of the things I wish they would have left off the affidavit was that one of the surviving roommates claims that she did see him leaving the house. Yeah. And she did mention that she had heard some other things. And a lot of people have been attacking her because she claimed this happened a little after 4 o'clock in the morning and the police weren't called until around noon. But like, this is a probable cause affidavit. So she said that the man in the house was tall, slimmer-billed, bushy eyebrows, which matches the man that they arrested, Brian Coburger.
Starting point is 00:05:48 They're not going to explain anything else as to why the police weren't called until the next day. So a lot of people on TikTok are attacking her, and I wish that everybody would just wait for that information to come out because you do not know how you would react in that situation. I completely agree. You don't know. She could have been in shock. She could have been like maybe this isn't a big deal.
Starting point is 00:06:13 I mean, this was a party house too. You know? Right. She could have just been like, okay, dude, like it's 4 o'clock in the morning. Like, parties over, get out. Right. She could have been, she said she was like in frozen shock. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:27 Her phone could have been dead. That too. Whatever decision she made kept her alive, in my opinion. in my opinion. So everybody can just back off until the trial starts and she, I'm sure it will have to testify and explain everything that happened
Starting point is 00:06:45 and why things, you know. So just she's a 20-something-year-old young woman who was not expecting that. And I think that people just need to leave her alone for a little bit. And not attack her because she didn't call 911 because at the end of the day, it could have been five students dead instead of four. Right. And anyone who's either been in college or lives with roommates, especially in your 20s,
Starting point is 00:07:14 you know that you're not like reacting to every sound that you hear or like every person that like shows up at your house. So people do need to lay off. When I'm in my bedroom, most of the, I mean, I usually just sleep, you know, in my bedroom. But whenever I go to sleep, my phone is always in the same place on my nightstand every night when I go to bed. And I can guarantee you if I opened my door and I saw a man and a mask in my house, I would have locked that door so quickly. But the shock probably would have, I probably wouldn't have called 911 until two or three days later just because of how I know I would probably react to that. So that's also, you know, it's a depending on a person thing. I look like a football player in this shirt.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Your broad shoulders. Yep. Quarterback gear. So do I sometimes in these sweatshirts. I love that sweatshirt on you and your hair looks fantastic today. Thank you. Skin is on fleek. I have been a little more focused on my skincare routine and I feel like I'm noticing it. I was just getting so dry everywhere because it's cold and wintry and all of that. Your complexion is just fantastic. You look like you have a filter on you. but it's just your face. Look like the Paris filter, but it's just ringlight. It's just gorgeous.
Starting point is 00:08:40 Well, we teased it, but we're continuing our discussion about stories that blew our mind by talking about TV shows that blew our mind this week. Yes. It's going to be so fun. This is going to be so fun. I also, you and all of our listeners are going to be so. proud of me because this is like I think the most diverse list I've ever had in regard to like it's not all things about serial killers or like necessarily like terrifying things but like I have a
Starting point is 00:09:12 little something on my list for everyone I love it. I have one I have one that I think you and I are going to have the same yeah there's one that I wonder if we will maybe two there might be too because I have a lot but I have some that might just be honorable mentions so we'll See, you want me to go first? You may go first. Yeah, I want you to kick it off. I'm so excited for your picks. So the first one I thought of when I knew we were going to talk about TV shows, TV shoes, TV shows. That blew my mind is Black Mirror on Netflix. It is an anthology series. This is their description.
Starting point is 00:09:57 An anthology series exploring a twisted high-tech multiverse. where humanity's greatest innovations and darkest instincts collide. It's very much sci-fi. It is like speculative fiction is sometimes what they call it too, where they're kind of like guessing what will happen in the future because of the way that we've integrated technology into our lives. And it gets compared to the Twilight Zone a lot. So if anyone has ever loved that before and somehow didn't watch Black mirror, even though they loves the Twilight Zone. There's your comparison. But it, every single episode makes you, like, think about what it means to be human. Think about, like, they just bring up
Starting point is 00:10:44 such thought-provoking concepts in every single episode. And it's really well-produced and well-acted. So that one will forever be at the top of my mind-blowing TV list. Do any of the episodes connect? None of them. Okay, that's good. Yeah. I kind of like that because I feel like especially with a show like that, there's going to be some that I'm like, okay, I'm glad that I dip my toe into this genre. Yeah. And then there are going to be others that I'm like, this might not work for me.
Starting point is 00:11:13 Yes. I could probably even, there are episodes that I could tell you that you would enjoy about it. And then there are ones, I mean, there are ones I didn't totally love too. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's a very, yeah, it's a really good variety though.
Starting point is 00:11:28 And it just makes you think. Mm-hmm. Yeah, that's definitely on my list. Yeah. I will send you which ones to watch. Okay. Maybe I'll just start it. You should.
Starting point is 00:11:41 I mean, the very first episode, so it was the producer, like the creator behind it is British, I believe. And so it aired on a British network at first. And the first one is one of the, like, craziest storylines I've ever seen. Like, Oh yeah,
Starting point is 00:12:00 you gotta kick it off of the bang. Yeah, it might, you might like it because of how, like, uncomfortable it is.
Starting point is 00:12:09 That's all I'm going to say. For that episode. Um, well, that's good because my first one is definitely one that is bound to make people
Starting point is 00:12:23 uncomfortable. Yeah. Um, my first one is euphoria to no one's surprise at all. Yes. Um, and my
Starting point is 00:12:32 whole thing with euphoria that I love so much is that there are certain like euphoria is not a thriller no but i think that if you do drama the way that people do euphoria and other shows if you do drama correctly it almost has the same feeling as a thriller because yeah this is definitely a show that has like what the fuck moments like i can't believe that just happened there's cliff hangers there's things that are kind of brewing in the background that you don't realize they're going to be a big deal. And it is very shocking. Some of the things that happen. And it's not just- It has the big reveals, which is really similar to a thrill-up. Yeah. And there's like these shocking things that happen. And you can kind of almost like, you watch two or three episodes and then something big happens,
Starting point is 00:13:24 and you're like, they were hinting at that for two or three episodes. Yeah. And then just kind of like wallop you with it. So Euphoria. just my favorite show in the entire world but also one that got me addicted to like twists and turns and reveals when it comes to television as well so i think that it's fantastic and it also kind of i think for anybody like listen like until i watch the show i never considered myself to be an older generation now that i'm like but now that i'm twice as old as some of these characters are. And my high school days are like almost 20 years away now.
Starting point is 00:14:07 I'm realizing that like it's also an eye opening to see what kids in this generation go through as well. Like some of the pressure, some of the things that they can find themselves in because, you know, as convenient as it is for everyone to have everything at their fingertips, it's not always convenient. for youth, I guess, you say. You know, like, I mean, things were dangerous enough when I was in high school because, like, everybody had a computer. Right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:40 And, I mean, our cell phones were like the prepaid ones that were like Nokia and, like, all you could do is, like, call your friends. Like, you couldn't even, like, text on them. So, you know, it's just. I think the first iPhone came out at the end of my junior year. We had flip phones still. Yes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:58 I know I was in. college when the first iPhone came out. Yeah. And they're just used to it now. We were at my, uh, nephew's birthday party on Sunday. And they were just like going through all of the pictures since he was like born. And all the adults were like, this is like crazy that they just, those kids are totally used to it. And they take selfies. Like they were taking selfies when they're three or four. It's so different. I remember getting the first iPhone. it came out but like even like back then like self service wasn't as good as it is now so like i literally had this iPhone that could like do all this shit but like it couldn't do all of this
Starting point is 00:15:39 shit in my area so i was like i can take pictures i can text and i can make phone calls and like yeah just frivolous with money but so yeah crazy it was like the first big purchase i made for myself I saved up money from working the concession stand at school so that I could get my phone. Oh, my God. I know. I know. It's the coolest. And now look at you.
Starting point is 00:16:06 Now look at me. The most technologically advanced person I know. Listen, girl, you know it more than I do. Oh, yeah. It is kind of my job. So. Yeah. That's why.
Starting point is 00:16:20 But yes, euphoria. They're definitely, they're definitely all younger. they're a younger generation than us, but they're very entertaining. Yeah. I'm obsessed. I love it. Well, my second one is a twisty family drama called Bloodline on Netflix. Believe it actually was a book as well, right?
Starting point is 00:16:47 Do you know? I think I saw that. Is that? I don't know. I'm not sure. I know there is a book. called Bloodline by Jess Lowry, but I don't think it's the same as the show. Okay. Yeah, I saw it. Yeah, it doesn't look like this one is based off a book. But it is a Netflix show.
Starting point is 00:17:10 And the description they have for it is a family is forced to face their past secrets and scars when the black sheep returns home. And this, it aired in like 2015, I think it. Yeah, 2015 through 20s. 2017, there are three seasons. Right around the same time as the affair. So that would be like a good, you know how like sometimes just saying like, oh, family has to face their secrets doesn't tell you a ton about it. If I was going to compare it, it's similar to the affair. At least one of the seasons has that structure where like you know that something really bad happened and you see a short scene of it. And then you go back like two weeks and work your way back.
Starting point is 00:17:52 and it shifts through like four different siblings, three siblings, perspectives, um, as like a lot of dirt comes out about their family and about why the guy who left, left the black sheep of the family. And it's just very twisty. And there are, there are a lot of shocking reveals every single season. I love it. I need to put it on my list because. Kyle Chandler's in that, correct?
Starting point is 00:18:25 Yes. I love him. Yep. He's the main. If we were going to pick a main character, he's the main character. But it's also one where because you shift through people's perspectives, kind of similar to the affair, like one episode you're pulling for someone and the next year you're pulling for someone else. And you're like, oh my gosh, who do I actually care the most about? I actually love that too because the comparison. I don't know if you realize this when you're comparing the two is one of the plots in the affair is dealing with the black sheep of the family.
Starting point is 00:19:03 Right. With Joshua Jackson's family. Yep. So spot on comparison. Yeah. Typically if you have a black sheep, it's because something shady is going on in the family. So it makes good TV. Typically, if you have a black sheep in the family, it means that something shady is going on or that black sheep.
Starting point is 00:19:23 Sheep is escaping something shady that's going on. Exactly. Exactly. There's a reason they typically are gone and then have to come back for something. Yeah, and it usually takes a lot to get them back too. Yeah. I definitely want to add that to my list because... You would love it. I also want to watch Friday Night Lights.
Starting point is 00:19:44 Oh, yeah. See, have you watched it before? No, but I love Kyle Chandler and I love Connie Brin. And I've heard that there's like a lot of... Because I'm like a huge One Tree Hill fan. Yes. And I've heard that there are a lot of comparisons between Friday Night Lights and One Tree Hill.
Starting point is 00:20:00 I remember hearing that. And I watched One Tree Hill when I was like, I don't know, a freshman, I think. But my friends had the full DVD set. So they just like gave it to me. But no one had Friday Night Lights. So I never saw it. But they always talked about both of those. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:17 Yeah. But I definitely need to check out Bloodline. I think it was. I hope this isn't, is Ozark on your list? Uh, no, but that is a good one. I believe they came out around the same time and I was like teeter tottering back and forth between which one I should watch. Um, because I was like Ozark, like, Laura Linney and like the cinematography seems like my vibe. Hmm.
Starting point is 00:20:43 But Kyle Chandler is like one of my top 10, like, sexiest men I've ever seen in my entire life. I don't know what it is. You really like the like tall, dark and handsome. I mean, you like all kinds, but. I guess. So do I. I am a slut. You're like, well, actually, Fogsy's breathing is your type.
Starting point is 00:21:12 Oh, my gosh. I guess I do like the tall darkening. I definitely like tall. Yeah. Yeah. I definitely like handsome. And I guess, I mean, yeah, I guess. Yeah, that makes sense.
Starting point is 00:21:26 Yeah. He's just, but then again, like, what's actually happening is there is he's not my, there's something about that's like, doesn't do it for me. I don't think he's unattractive, but I'm just kind of like, eh. I think it's like the, I don't know. Like, if I ever wrote a book and there was like a hot teacher in it, like I would imagine Kyle Chandler as like the hot teacher. He'd be a good professor.
Starting point is 00:21:51 or yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I see that. Yeah, you would love him in bloodline. Speaking of things that were uncomfortable to watch. Yellow jackets that I recently finished. I had that on my list.
Starting point is 00:22:08 That was the one I figured we'd both have for sure. I thought so too. I think I have a personal connection with this story, which is like very weird. Yeah. But, um... Like it just feels that way? It feels that way because one of my like memories that's like emblazoned in my mind from high school was reading Lord of the Flies. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:22:36 When it dealt with people who were like not adults who were doing horrible things and like the violence that they were capable of. Yeah. And this show is just kind of a. like more modern twistier thriller-esque version of Lord of the Flies. Yes. I saw those comparisons. That's a really good one. I love everything about it. I love the dual timeline. I love the twists and the turns and the reveals. And again, similar to Euphoria in a completely different way, they kind of give you little nuggets of information before like a big reveal. And, you. And you, you know,
Starting point is 00:23:19 you're just like kind of kicking yourself in the ass that you didn't realize it prior to, you know, being hit in the face with it. Yeah. But it's so good. And the cast is amazing. That's what I was about to say. I was like in the cast, the acting is just phenomenal.
Starting point is 00:23:36 The cast is so good. And the present version. Like all of them are so perfectly cast. Yeah. You know, when it comes to the cast, I think it's like really hard to find an ensemble cast that all brings so much. to the show like this one does. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:53 There's not one weak link in acting-wise in that show. You know, characters, obviously there's going to be. But acting, like, they all bring their A-game and are like phenomenal. But to me, it's just amazing to find an ensemble cast that does that. Yeah. But you're also finding a cast that not only can do that, but also have younger versions of themselves that are phenomenal actors as well. Yes, and they are believable as the younger version as well.
Starting point is 00:24:27 Yes. It's not as much of a stretch. Right, right. And the coach is hot. I was going to say, we've got to talk about the coach. Oh, my God. I was about to say, and it's impressive because it's a mostly female cast, those are the important characters.
Starting point is 00:24:43 And then I was like, but the coach, there is the coach. Man, that coach is just. gorgeous it is I feel like this episode is gonna be like if you list any show that I know and I list all of mine that I obviously do know
Starting point is 00:25:04 it's gonna be like the tail end of each one is like me listing the character that I would sleep with or me and I'm like and he's hot oh my god he's so hot I don't like it's just like running around well not real I mean hobbling around and you know
Starting point is 00:25:19 I'm like man Yeah, just surviving, but I'm like, just think of the biceps when you get saved. Mm-hmm. From carrying around your... I need to strand you on an island with a coach, with a soccer coach. Um, stranded, yes, but, like, maybe like a, like a ski lodge or something. I don't think that, like, island, I think, like, if anything, if you put me on an island with anyone, it would just make it so that by the time we are saved or we're off that island,
Starting point is 00:25:57 like they want nothing to do with me. I thought you were going to go a totally different direction. No, by the time we're saved, they're like, thank you for the memories. But like, also thank you for the trauma. Like, I don't want to be, I don't want to put anybody through being stuck on an island with me where I don't have air conditioning where. That's where I was going to go. I don't have like the books that I want to read.
Starting point is 00:26:24 I don't have like my skincare routine. You know, like what if I get stuck there? My emotional support water bottle. Yeah, can you imagine this filled with like salt water? And you're having to boil it? Yeah, that'd be terrible. That was where I was. I wouldn't even know to do that.
Starting point is 00:26:43 But you would need to be there. And whoever I was with would be so sick of me that they wouldn't tell me to do it even if they knew. I would just let me die. This just keeps getting worse. Oh, my goodness. So the reason I was going to go that direction, you have not seen the Harry and Megan doc yet, right?
Starting point is 00:27:02 Not yet, no. This is not a spoiler, really. But they kind of met between friends and talked a little bit on like FaceTime or something. And then she was in London, maybe for Wimbledon. I don't know. She ended up in London after. They had talked a little bit on the phone.
Starting point is 00:27:22 And they went on this like one short date, but they stayed up all night talking to each other and felt like so connected to each other. But then she has to fly back to the States and he has to do all his royal shit. Right. Which kind of keeps them a little bit busy. So they don't see each other for a while, but they're still like talking all day long, like talking, like texting all day long and like talking at night. and he all of a sudden has a week free but he always goes somewhere in Africa I can't remember where and just asked her
Starting point is 00:27:59 I mean you can't come hang out with me here and so for their second date she flew like to Africa in a tiny little plane and they landed and slept in a tent for seven days together no plumbing no nothing. And then, like, then they were officially dating after it. Like, they definitely fell in
Starting point is 00:28:22 love. But I was listening to a podcaster and she was like, the most important part of that story is that I could never marry Prince Harry because the second date needed to be without plumbing and showers. I was like, that's me. No. I would be so bad. I'd be so sweaty all the time. I would just be panicking all the time, too. Like, what if something happens to us? You know what's very funny, though? Uh-huh. I dated a guy in my early 20s, and we met, like, randomly and had one of those, like, we talked
Starting point is 00:29:08 all night. Like, the first time that we met, we talked all night. And he, like, lived, like, three hours away from me. Whoa. And our, like, second time meeting was. like basically like we met talked all night had a great time i was like wow like he's like amazing and the next day like he went back home and like we were texting and stuff and he was like this is just like literally the worst time for me to meet somebody because i'm going to i'm going to paris
Starting point is 00:29:38 for school for a month whoa and i was like okay well you know and i'm like thinking to myself like why does it like why does that happen you know what I mean? And he's like although like right after New Year's like I have two days if you want to come down and hang out with me. So like my second time hanging out with this guy was literally going to stay with him and his parents and like meeting like legit like at least half of his family. Wow. I could have been a royal.
Starting point is 00:30:17 I was going to say you're basically a I had what it did. I had what it did. Or do whatever it is when you marry into it. Well, yeah. I mean, they had a happier ending than I did. Yeah. We ended up breaking up, obviously.
Starting point is 00:30:37 But yeah, that was just like a wild dating experience. So I totally get you, Megan. Yeah. You and Megan are the same. Oh, my God. We have so much of confidence. Like, Megan, you just don't even get it. But she does.
Starting point is 00:30:52 She does get it. You're right. She does. We're like basically the same person. You know, to find you a redheaded prince or not. Tall, dark and handsome. You're right. You're right.
Starting point is 00:31:08 I don't know if I've ever found a redhead attractive. I find, I find Harry attractive because of like who he is. I think he's attractive. Yeah. I think he's attractive. just in passing be like, whoa. Yes. A redheaded male usually is like a very fair, like it's very like sporadic.
Starting point is 00:31:31 A redheaded woman is like. Beautiful. Top notch beauty. Yeah. Like just all of them. Yes. Julianne Moore, I think is what like started that for me. Yes.
Starting point is 00:31:46 She is like. Jessica Chastain is a woman who's actually a. actually aging like fine wine. So I don't even know how we ended up here. How do we ever? Megan and Harry is how we ended up here somehow. Oh, and yellow jackets. Megan and Harry was because of yellow jackets.
Starting point is 00:32:04 Yeah. We literally went from yellow jackets to like a little like personal story about like a dating experience to like Harry and Megan and like you being related to a serial killer. Yeah. All in a matter of minutes. And all in a day's work, folks. This is what we do here. It is a mixed bag
Starting point is 00:32:23 People are listening like I just want the fucking TV shows They're like what is the rest of the yellow jacks story? I don't think there's anything else actually Yeah you know it's gonna be like It's gonna be a very fun episode But it's also gonna be like kind of a difficult one Because I feel like I can only give a very brief synopsis And I don't do anything brief
Starting point is 00:32:43 But like I can only give a very brief synopsis of like what the show is about Because like if I spoil it I spoil it and I'm like I know. Some of them are older though. So like, you know, it's not. Yeah, I think some people at least know what some of the shows are about even since they're older. Yeah. But I apparently, I just realized that all of my first three were our Netflix shows.
Starting point is 00:33:09 So I'm going Netflix heavy. But my next one is The Haunting of Hill House, which is kind of a, somewhat classic haunted house story. I'm deceased. But yeah, I loved it so much. I would, this is one I want to rewatch sometime.
Starting point is 00:33:29 I just don't know when. But flashing between the past and present, a fractured family confronts haunting memories of their old home and the terrifying events that drove them from it. So this has like the kids as like probably like 12 or 14 and under. So they're even younger kids in the past than like yellow. Jackets, which was high school is the main reason I'm saying that. And a lot of crazy stuff happened in the house when they were growing up, but you don't know what it was. And so you're
Starting point is 00:34:01 flashing it. They have to come back to the house for a certain reason that I won't say in case it's a spoiler, but they all have to come back to the house. And as you're hearing them talk about different things, you're finding out about it in the past. And it's a really artistic and creative show. Like it's really beautiful as well. Also like strangely heartwarming in some ways. Like it's like a very character driven like you get very emotionally connected to the characters and the other cool thing at least at the time there is a scene that they have that is a one take that's like 18 minutes long. And it was like one of the longest one takes that had ever been done in TV and they did it by like and this was with kids and the adults so they were even jumping
Starting point is 00:34:56 between timelines and did a one take and it was just so impressive. I just love everything about that show. And then there's one that's not like a sequel sequel, but I can't remember what it's called now but it's basically just as good and kind of the same idea. The haunting of Bligh manner. Bly. I couldn't remember if it was Bly or Blythe. So that. Either one, I think. That one is just as good. I didn't watch that way. For almost all the same reasons. Oh, you haven't?
Starting point is 00:35:25 I haven't. So I love, I love that show. I also loved the book. Oh my God. Whoa. That is kind of crazy. I'm like looking at that right now. Yeah, I love this.
Starting point is 00:35:48 I read the book before I watched the show because the amazing. the amazing people at Penguin Random House sent me this to prepare for the Netflix show. So that was really cool. And the book and the show are very, very, very different. But I think that this is a perfect example of if you are inspired by a story and you want to do a modern take on it, you want to remake it. As long as you do that story justice, it is fine. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:19 If you blatantly copy it, it's going to flop. Like the Hunting of Hill House movie with Catherine Zeta Jones and Liam Neeson in it. Entertaining. But it's like nothing extraordinary. It's just entertaining, I think, visually for that time frame. But this show is fucking amazing. So good. In the cast.
Starting point is 00:36:40 I still remember. The cast is amazing because who is... Oh, I can't think of who... Oliver Jackson Cohen? Yes. The female. I love. Victoria Pedretti.
Starting point is 00:36:52 That's who I love. I've seen her in so many things now. She's so amazing. She's a goddess. She's such, she can act her ass off. And what is the other? No, I'm scrolling. The Middle Sister's name.
Starting point is 00:37:09 It's like on the tip, Katie. It's either Katie or Kate Siegel. Yep. From the movie Hush. Yes. Have you ever watched the movie Hush? I don't think I have. I just see it right. No, I haven't. I just saw it pop up when I clicked your name. Netflix. I'm adding it. You'll love it. Small little tidbit of information. Hush with Kate Siegel is amazing. It is about an author who lives in a beautiful little cabin in the middle of the woods, the middle of nowhere. She is deaf. And there is a. And there is a.
Starting point is 00:37:50 is a man trying to break into her house. She can't hear things, though. So she has to use other resources to not only try to figure out where he is, but protect herself and keep herself safe. And for one of those situations where, like, you have one movie that's taking place in a very small area to keep you entertained for an hour and a half. Yeah. Or acting in it is incredible.
Starting point is 00:38:14 The movie is visually amazing and it's fantastic. So you have to watch Hush. enough. I, we will watch it. I'm adding it. Tyler will love the shit out of it. Yeah. We really both like when they're like creative spins on stuff like that. Like,
Starting point is 00:38:30 yes. Not every day you get to see an action movie where someone can't hear things. Yes. And fantastic. Damn, that was a really good one. You know what the thing is too? I felt like when I was making my list. Like, I was like, there's going to be a few. I'm going to either think of after or like days later because that's where my brain has been this week. But that was just perfect because if I would have thought of the haunting of
Starting point is 00:38:55 Hillhouse after and left it off my list, I would have been like, Garrett, you're an idiot. But that's why I always got your back and you always got mine. That's where I've got two brains going. And I'm going to segue with yours because speaking of Victoria Pedretti and everything amazing that she is, I love the show you. Yes. I love what they've done with taking plots from the book, but also doing their own thing with it. And even if you are a huge fan of the book series like I am, you still find the show to be extremely entertaining. And they just captured everything brilliantly. And they've blown my mind so many times from somebody who literally could recite lines from these books.
Starting point is 00:39:45 Yeah. And Victoria Pedretti was the most amazing decision. ever. Shea Mitchell. I love it together. I love Shane Mitchell and I loved Peach in the first season. And, you know, she wasn't in the second season. So when they took Victoria Pedretti, it was some of the best acting I've ever seen in my entire life.
Starting point is 00:40:09 Yeah. She plays such a, she plays such a, like, absurd, absurd, quirky. She just plays a very unique character so well. And like doesn't seem, she pulls it off. I think that's what I'm trying to say. It's a character that would be easy to like overcommit
Starting point is 00:40:29 and then it just looks goofy. Her characters between those two shows are so different. So different. And her acting skills just get better with like every second that she's on this earth. and I think that she is a fucking brilliant human being and I love her. She is.
Starting point is 00:40:49 I do too. I'm obsessed with her. And it's coming back soon, but they're doing that thing. February night. Two parts, but whatever. Whatever. We'll still watch it.
Starting point is 00:41:02 You know what? With all good things, take time. You're right. And the fourth book comes out in April. Oh, yeah. I remember seeing that when I was looking at releases. Mm-hmm. I'm looking at it right now.
Starting point is 00:41:23 Oh, that's so fun. I want to, I just, I want to talk to authors so badly who have. She slid into my DMs. Oh, really? When I posted it, she was like, oh, my God, thank you so much gear. And I was like, Carolyn. That's really exciting. I just want to talk to someone.
Starting point is 00:41:41 We had like a fun little, like, chit-chat. You what? We had like a fun little chit-chat because I just love her and I like told her like flat out like how much I love her and how much I love Joe Goldberg and if she ever needed an idea for a book that I would honestly read an entire U book
Starting point is 00:41:59 about Joe Goldberg eating Taco Bell and it would probably be one of my favorite reads of the year. Especially if it's Taco Bell that he's... Oh my God, fuck Taco Bell right now. Oh yeah. You actually had a bad experience. Yep. The only fast food place that will give you something for free is when Taco Bell puts a few pieces of chicken in my cheese cassidia.
Starting point is 00:42:26 That's just terrible. Brutal. Rude. It's also rude. I hate the chickens. You hate eating them. I mean, I don't like them anyway. I hate chickens, yeah. chickens actually kind of creep me out.
Starting point is 00:42:44 I feel like what if I was actually around them. I just like see them and they look like they're pissed off and they have like something like brewing in their minds that's going to be like evil. And then their little legs just move like really, really fast when they're pissed off. You'd think I would relate. Like related to dinosaurs. I think that might be. Jesus, I just saw that too. Whoa.
Starting point is 00:43:08 Makes sense. Yeah. It was like one of those. little things, right, that like showed the dinosaur morphing into a chicken? Maybe. I feel like I, I feel like for some reason, I've known it since I was a kid. I couldn't tell you why. Well, you know, as much as we have in common, there are a lot of things that you've known since you were a child that I'm finding out at 35. Oh my gosh. This is what those random facts. I probably, it's. I'm like, did you? know this and you're like yassin's like diapers
Starting point is 00:43:43 dumb ass I can't figure out how to like say it but then sometimes I struggled a lot like I was like I should have just said yes that meme that's amazing and I just couldn't help the compulsion to be like well I've holy but I would have been like what color was the meme
Starting point is 00:44:01 I think it was green with like a yellow dinosaur morphing into a yellow chicken yeah I think they are they are bizarre animals.
