Hey guys, welcome to the Killing the Tea podcast. This is Gare and Kate. And we are going to be discussing all things, chills, thrills and kills. Kate and I are going to be talking about our favorite books, TV shows and movies that are in the thriller or crime fiction genre, as well as some reading habits and other items related to how we met on Bookstagram that will fit in with this podcast. So,
Thank you so much for joining us, and we hope that you have fun and get totally terrified.
The other person, other woman that I think could kick some ass with her, who's also one of my favorites of all time, is Beth Dutton from Yellowstone.
And I don't think we've talked about Yellowstone. Have you seen Yellowstone?
Okay. I'm going to hire a bodyguard after I say this.
Go for it.
I tried starting Yellowstone because everybody was talking about it.
And I can see the appeal because it seems like it is very character driven.
But the first couple of episodes are kind of slow and not a lot happens.
They are.
So it was very easy for me to move on to something else and not pick it back up.
I'm not saying I never will watch it.
It's just like right now it's not the vibe for me.
Right.
Just not my vibe.
I didn't think we talked about it.
So I didn't think that.
But everybody loves Bath.
Well, and I started, I was just looking up.
I watched it at the beginning of the year, this year.
So I watched it when I had four seasons and like knew everyone was going crazy about it.
I think I was even sick.
But I also remember telling Tyler it is a slow show.
I don't think it's for you.
Yeah.
But then you're right.
Everything starts really picking up.
And then it's like those books where sometimes you're like,
is this going anywhere?
And then you get to the end and you're like,
oh, I'm really glad I spent all that time getting the backstory.
But it is a show like that.
But Beth Dutton is...
Everybody loves her and she's a badass.
Oh, my God.
She's amazing.
She is like basically crazier, acting more like the men than the men are sometimes.
I love that.
Pretty fearless and definitely is not scared of them just because
their men.
She is amazing.
I'm in love with her.
That's a sound.
And she would take down Gilead too
because she
knows how to negotiate
and be shady.
I think she's a lawyer.
I'm like 90% sure
that that's what she is.
But she would
and she has a lot of money.
So in this world where like
at the same time
she could go in there
she would basically be able
to make some moves.
I, okay, so I actually get some, I love that actress.
She was, her name's Kelly Riley, I believe.
She was Vince Bond's wife in season two, I believe, of True Detective.
Yes.
And I think she's incredible.
She is.
Some scenes of Beth show up on my TikTok.
Yeah.
And I always watch them because.
She's another one where vigilante shit would work for her.
I was going to say, like, I have only watched two episodes of this show, and I, just based
on what I've seen on TikTok, she almost kind of seems like she's the one that, like, would go in
to Gilead, and you know that, like, Gilead's going to be over, but, like, Beth also might risk her own life
and end up dying in the process because, like, she would risk her own life to do it.
Yes, yes.
I agree.
And the other thing is she doesn't want to.
not be included on the action.
So she would, like, want to be there, probably.
Yeah.
She's amazing.
I'm obsessed.
Well, I have a redhead.
I'm going to play off you.
Yeah.
Who do you think it is?
Or is it Scarlet?
It is Scarlet.
Oh.
Good.
She would, she'd be great.
So Scarlet from They Never Learn is one of my picks.
everybody loves Scarlet.
The whole gist of Gilead is that they never learned.
She's this female serial killer, Dexter, who is just taking down horrible men who get away with sexual assault.
Yeah.
And like.
She does it really well.
She does it really well.
and no spoilers to the book,
but like, it could be a 10 book series, to be honest.
I think so, too.
I would love to see her just, yeah,
I would love to see her just different campuses.
Yeah.
You know, a different campus for each book.
It's kind of like you, like he switches cities.
Yeah, yeah.
But I just love that character.
I love my idea of Jessica Chastain playing her.
Yes.
I don't think there's anybody else I could pick.
But like I just am obsessed with Scarlett and she is one smart, stylish, conniving badass who would just get shit done.
Yes.
And she's not afraid to get her hands dirty.
She gets her hands very dirty.
I will
reread it with you.
Yeah, but we need to do that
sometime.
I just would 100% do it
because...
Because I remember it's just it.
The book just has everything.
Like there's dark academia.
There's a serial killer, but it's a serial
killer that you like
that you enjoy.
Who's a good protagonist.
It's very steamy.
Definitely has some steamy moments.
Oh, yeah.
There's like one
there's one character
I don't remember his name
but he's like another professor
that she like fucking hates
yeah
yes
and I want Simon Baker
to play him
do you know what Simon Baker is
I do now I want to know if I can find his name
I bet it's not in the synopsis though
Simon Baker was
he was the
what was that the mentalist
yes
I think so.
Yeah.
He was like a sleaze ball in Devil Wars Prada.
Yes.
That's the other thing.
He can look like a sleazeball pretty easily.
Miranda Priestley would fucking kill Gilead.
Yes, she would.
I should have thought of her.
Oh, well.
Every person you say I'm thinking of like a TV character and like, I was like, oh, shit.
But.
Well, if you have any, throw them in.
Oh, I'll probably just list off a few, like a couple of random ones at the room.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Or a little speed rounds.
Yeah.
So, so yeah, Scarlet.
My girl, Scarlet.
My girl, Scarlet.
My, another one who I think would be amazing is Carrie Matheson from Homeland.
Okay.
See, it's a, is it the CIA?
Yes, it's a CIA spy show.
And Claire Dane's.
give some of like the most impressive performances like very similar in handmaid's tale a lot of
that show is close-ups of her face like also an extremely action-packed show so there's plenty of
that there's a lot that you have to learn just from close-ups of her face and she just kills it
and that show that show similarly wrecked me multiple times so that has a lot the show overall has a lot
in common in Handmaid's Tale or with Handmaid's Tale, but it's just a really, really, really good
spy thriller.
And she's just like a little bit fearless.
A big part of the show is her struggling with the fact that she's bipolar.
So she does go manic and depressive.
And so you also see her like struggling with like when she's manic, she is kind of good at her job.
But it doesn't last very long.
So yeah, it's just like her performances.
is amazing and then just so many stories going on every single season.
I love that show.
That's a show that could have gone on for like 12 or 13 seasons because like you're like
always like after a certain bad guy.
Basically.
I'm going to have to like, I've never watched Homeland.
I really, really loved it.
I'm trying to think of.
That's when I always wanted to watch.
House of Cards is another one I always wanted to watch.
Yes.
I watched that one until, well, until the season that he wasn't in anymore.
And I tried to watch it.
But I feel like they, like, didn't know what to do with the plot.
And I don't blame them.
But up into that point, it's a really, really, really good show.
I love people that are plotting.
And it's just all about playing.
I love Robin Wright, Penn.
Oh, my gosh.
For real.
She's beautiful.
Stunning.
Have you ever watched?
What's the name of the?
movie.
When she was really young?
No.
Okay.
It's called, it's something, I'm going to look it up.
But so I don't know if you've ever heard of this movie.
I'm a huge Jack Nicholson fan.
Like he's just, I think like one of the most incredible actors of like the entire world.
I agree.
Jack Nicholson was in a movie with Robin Wright Penn.
and it is called
it is called
The Pledge
Oh, okay, I haven't seen that one.
And it's a noir mystery
but he's a retired police detective
And
basically there's a discovered of a murdered
of a murdered child
and he
they end up
murdering a Native American man because
well this Native American man kills himself
because he's like the main suspect
and
they end up like realizing that he was not
he was not the killer
but Robin Wright Penn is in it
and it is an incredible
movie
if you like that emotionally charged
police procedural mystery thriller kind of thing.
Not necessarily police procedural in the aspect of like FBI and vans and everything like that,
but he's a retired police detective trying to find a serial killer basically.
Right, right.
With no help of his own.
And trying to protect Robin Wright Penn who has a little girl that he's grown very fond of,
who's the same age as like the victims.
It's an incredible movie.
Incredible.
That sounds really good.
I'm adding it to my list.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Highly recommend.
It reminds me of the, did you watch the gray man on Netflix with, um, Ryan Gosling?
Ryan Gosling.
Is that the action one?
It came out recently.
Yeah, and it was a movie, but it was like the same thing.
Yes.
We're like, you're madly in love with Ryan Gosling's character because he's like really
protective of someone's daughter and you're like, oh, it's so cute.
So it reminds me of that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I did really like that movie.
yeah i love
Anna de armas
or Anna de armas
I love her
she's so yeah
I love her too
she's a friggin powerful
I know
I would watch her in a lot of
I would watch her do anything
so yeah she's
she's awesome
my next one
my girl Ivy Lynn
from White Ivy by Susie Yang
oh yeah you're right
she would
She's like resourceful
resourceful but she's also
like stopping at nothing
there's nothing that's going to get in her way
from getting what she wants
and that is
one of my top five favorite books
that I will always recommend to people
but it's basically about a woman
who when she's younger
her immigrant grandmother teaches her
on how to like
go to yard sales and like switch
stickers so she can like
get something for like cheap and it's just kind of this way of like stealing and when she's caught her parents
want to teach her a lesson so they send her to china with relatives and yeah she has to say goodbye to
this rich boy that she like was in love with and had a huge crush on named gideon and she's like
well there goes my chance of like dating this like rich boy who like is like you know the most popular
the boy in school. The golden boy. Yeah, the golden boy. And then she comes back and she's living in
Massachusetts, I believe. Yeah. And ends up like just reuniting with him in a really like
just by chance sort of way. And it's like, I'm going to stop at nothing to get the lifestyle that
I deserve. Yeah. And Ivy Lynn would go in,
just crushing.
She would.
Okay, you know what?
I'm going to say, I love Ivy 100%,
but I don't know if she would necessarily be able to take down Gilead,
but she would give it her all.
She'd be very useful.
If shit started to hit the fan, she would 100% survive.
Gilead just might be standing, but like she would be like in Hawaii and being like,
well, I gave it a shot.
I agree.
I tried.
I tried.
I tried to help.
I tried.
I tried, you know, but at the end of the day, the most important thing in this world to me is me.
Yes.
Oh, my gosh.
When you were saying that, though, it reminded me, because I don't know that we talked a ton after I read White Ivy.
But when, like, what I thought was so impressive about that, like how you were saying she was doing anything to get the lifestyle she wanted.
And then, like, how even when she and Gideon basically know everything, both of them know what's going on,
they still got the lifestyle they wanted.
Like, I did not predict.
I couldn't have predicted that, like, that was going to be the big, powerful story going on underneath all of it.
And I loved it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It, like, kind of, like, hits you hard because, like, surface level they got what they want.
Yeah.
No.
Surface level, you got exactly what you wanted.
They both did.
Yeah.
Emotionally.
you're just never going to be fulfilled.
No, no.
Not in that scenario.
It's one of the best books I've ever read in my entire life.
It was so good.
I was so into it.
Best book I've ever read in my entire life.
Yeah.
Like one of them.
The way it goes through her childhood is just like
the way her character is like
who she really is is the most important thing
throughout the whole book.
They're just so attached.
It's also that.
that multi-genre every
I think it sold them three parts
and every part is a different genre
to say
yeah just that was what made
that when you told me that
that was what made me like well I'm gonna read it now
yeah yeah so just one of my favorite
so Ivy Ivy so good
my girl Ivy would
definitely definitely do it
she would she'd be great
so I'm kind of proud of this one
because I just think it's cute
but Peggy Olson from Madman would be just as good at taking down the patriarchy as June even and she happens to be played by the same actress.
So I was kind of proud of myself when I thought of that one.
But she is like the main female in that show and also in that time period who was like, no, I have a right to be in the man's world.
and I just feel like that attitude would help a lot.
I'm really liking the reasoning behind all of your choices,
and you are just completely fucking crushing this.
I will say also, books, we have so much in common.
Yes, not all TV shows.
Not yet.
No, I haven't watched any of these.
I never watched Mad Men.
Oh, you're right.
You haven't watched it.
You're right.
Well, I have one more, so it'll be interesting to see if you've watched that one.
We'll see.
Jeopardy music starts playing.
I'm just glad you knew what I made.
I was like, I'm freaking, okay, so my friend Tyler makes fun of me sometimes because like,
in the heat, like, in the height of the pandemic.
Yeah.
I was like hardcore like, like, I'm not missing Jeopardy every single night.
Like it was like my, I love Jeopardy.
It got you through the day.
Love Jeopardy.
I love, love, love, love Jeopardy.
That's one of my favorite.
thing. So yes, like 100%
know that.
Yeah.
So mine
so I have two more.
My next one,
I don't think, I haven't seen
this book girl a lot
on bookstagram.
Both struggle. I know.
It's when I get really excited, right?
Me too. Because
it's my girl Chloe
from the book
Never Saw Me Coming by
Vera Curian.
Um, so Chloe is a psychopath.
Like, she is like an actual psychopath.
She's attending college with a group of other psychopaths in a study about psychopaths, right?
The reason she is going to this school is because her main focus is to kill a boy name, I believe, Will Bachman.
Like, she's going to the school to murder him.
Wow.
You don't know why and you don't know why or like what she's up to, but she's also an actual psychopath.
She has no empathy.
She only cares about herself.
She will stop at nothing.
Like if she ran over 20 people trying to get to the grocery store, like it would not affect her whatsoever.
Yeah.
So she's in this group with other psychopaths in a clinical study and somebody starts killing off the other psychopaths in the study.
Oh my gosh.
I've had this on my TBR forever and haven't read it yet.
It is so fucking good.
I will read it with you.
I will read it with you.
It is one of, she's one of my favorite characters that I've ever read.
That is so cool.
Badass.
But I also love that contrast of this book starting off with almost like a scarlet character from They Never Learn in the sense of like, I'm going to the school.
I'm going to kill this guy.
I'm going to kill this guy.
You do not know why.
all you need to know is that I plan on murdering him.
Yep.
And then as it goes on, it's like the hunter becomes the hunted when people start getting killed.
And she's like, oh, fuck.
Like now I have this to deal with, you know, because she's a psychopath.
She has no emotion whatsoever other than.
It's just, like, oh, great.
Like, this is going to get in the way of what I'm trying to do.
You know, it's like, it's like the phone ringing when you're trying to switch out your laundry.
You know, and you're like, oh shit, like, do I go get the phone or like, you know, like, great.
Now some guy or some person is trying to kill us.
Yeah.
Do I go get killed or do I live?
Yeah, but she is an actual, like, diagnosed psychopath.
So she would, nothing in Gilead would affect her whatsoever.
Yes.
That's a really great point.
Yeah.
Yep.
She sounds amazing.
You're going to love her.
Sounds like exactly what we need at Killianne.
Yeah, you would love her.
You will love her.
It's been on my list forever.
So good.
So good.
It's actually my trifecta from
2021, I believe.
Yeah, it says 2021.
Okay.
My trifecta from 2021 is,
In My Dreams I Hold a Knife by Ashley Winstead.
Never Saw Me Coming by Vera Kirian.
And Nice Girls by Catherine Day.
I haven't read that one either.
I'm missing out on your 2021 trifecta.
Holy shit.
Okay, so nice girls.
I'll just be like a very small.
Oh, yeah, that's on my list too.
Yeah.
So it is,
this woman who was not very popular in high school.
She was kind of like geeky and chubby.
And she went to, I believe, Princeton.
And then like got kicked out of school and you don't know why.
And she comes back and she's like,
thin and she's nothing like the person she was when she went to college. When she gets back,
one of her, like, best friends from her hometown, who she doesn't talk to anymore and has no
relationship with is like the popular influencer girl and she goes missing. And she starts to
kind of try to figure out what's going on. And at the same time, like, realizes that other girls
have gone missing as well.
But because they are women of color, the police were just like, oh, they must have, you know, ran away.
We'll just, you know, as a runaway.
But then this white popular influencer who has like blonde hair and blue eyes goes missing and everybody
pays attention.
But she's starting to see kind of connections in those cases and wants to figure out what the, like,
fuck's going on.
Oh my gosh.
I need to, I need to resign from my job.
I can read everything.
Yeah.
I put in my two weeks status.
So that is my trifecta of like,
I would say those three,
honestly, like, I would say like those three
luckiest girl alive by Jessica Null
and then White Ivy by Susie Yang
are like
just like five
incredible books that go beyond what a thriller is.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know what I mean?
Yep, I do know what you mean.
I just want to read them all now.
I'm probably not going to sleep tonight.
I will pick them up with you.
Right?
Yeah, I'm definitely going to.
Those would be probably December-ish reads or something like that.
Yeah.
So it'll be fun.
Yeah, let's do it.
I'm game.
I know you.
I mean, you're going to fucking love them.
Oh, yeah.
especially if it's like your favorites
nice girls like
nice girls is like kind of like twisty
like almost like cruel summer
TV show
yeah
and never saw me coming as just like
it's kind of like
they never learn Dexter like
yeah
just high paid like high octane entertainment
yeah yes yes yes I love that
I need a high octane badge
to give books
like your little stamp of approval.
We do need to make some badges.
I thought you were about to say you had some.
Could you imagine?
What's your favorite flower?
I don't have an answer.
I don't like flowers.
Don't.
No.
Mine's an orchid.
I don't think I could tell you what most flowers are.
I love it and orchid.
Are they the, I don't know anything.
Are they the tall ones?
Yeah.
It almost looks like a bell.
Yes.
And it's kind of like pink or purple-ish on the inside or something sometimes.
Yeah.
I'm with you now.
I don't know.
I don't like flowers.
I don't want to take care of something.
Like, I don't like being in nature.
I don't want to have them in my house.
I don't like plants in my house.
But I think at my funeral or wedding, whatever comes first, I would like to have like,
if they're like, what kind of flower do you want?
Like, I love the look of an orchid.
Yeah, I get that.
Some like high-end florists.
like they'll spray paint them black too.
Yeah.
And so I just always thought a cool badge would be the circle with a knife, but like an orchid
coming out of the handle.
Ooh, I love that.
So just envision it when we talk about badges.
But yeah.
I'm going to.
Now I'm going to think of your orchid.
Because it's like murdery, but it's like things we love and like flowers show like love and stuff,
you know?
Yeah.
I feel like I'd probably just like whatever.
flower comes in hot pink.
Or we could do like a piece of pizza with like a knife in the middle of it because we love
pizza.
I mean pizza. I do love pizza and nothing goes well with murder like pizza.
And I don't have to take care of the pizza.
True.
Well, I mean you do.
You got to eat it.
What's your favorite pizza topping?
Pepperoni.
Is that what you said?
Probably.
Or bacon.
We're like pepperoni and bacon.
I love bacon.
That's for sure.
What's your favorite?
Black olives.
Gross.
My friend Tyler, my friend Tyler hates olives.
Like, I actually won't eat olives around him because he hates him so much.
But, like, he'll even say, like, oh, did you go to Subway today?
Like, what did you get on your sub?
And if I say Black Olive, he's like, I hate when you eat olives.
And I'm like, you're not around me.
Like, he hates that.
Yeah, I don't hit them that bad.
I just definitely don't like them.
Abby from Crime by the Book, her favorite pizza topping is black olives.
You got your little pizza twins.
Yeah. I don't know why. I don't even know how it started.
Yeah.
I mean, I used to like pepperoni when I was younger, but I'm a vegetarian.
Yeah, kind of cancels that out.
You kind of gets rid of that.
But I don't know what it was that made me pick black olives.
I love, like, savory. I love salty.
So that must be what it is.
Yeah.
You know, like, if you give me the choice of, like, chocolate or, like, something savory or salty, like, I'm going to pick savory salty.
I'm about 50-50.
I love both, and I probably, I don't know if I could decide.
If I, like, pick one for the rest of my life.
I don't know if I could decide.
Because really the best thing to do is salty and sweet together.
Like.
A chocolate covered pretzel.
chocolate with
salt, sea salt, caramel
in the middle of it is like...
I don't like caramel.
You don't like caramel?
It's butter and sugar.
I will...
I'll tell you what, though.
I will say,
Trader Joe's
has the
peanut butter filled pretzels
covered in chocolate.
Covered in chocolate.
Yes.
And they're so...
good. That's when I'll
get like, that's when I'll say like,
you know, I don't really crave
like ice cream or sweets or anything like that.
But like if you give me the option of peanut butter
and chocolate combined, like I fuck with that
100%.
That is the best.
Such a good combination.
Yeah. Yeah.
You were talking about Trader Joe's last week and I was like,
maybe I'm going to go to Trader Joe's tomorrow. I had like
all that like we were talking about it at night
sometime last night and I was like, there was one
close to me. Maybe I should go. I did not.
I didn't. I couldn't convince myself to leave.
But I need to now for the chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels.
So good. So good.
They also have two kinds of frozen macaroni and cheese.
Did I tell you about those?
Mm-mm.
So one of them is like macaroni and cheese and it has green chilies in them.
Hatch chilies. Is that what they're called?
Yeah, sometimes they call them hatch. Yeah.
Okay. So they have those in it. So good.
They also have another one.
called like, it's like Joe's Diner
and it tastes like diner style macaroni
and cheese.
Which is also amazing. And I
don't know about you, but like
Chalula
on macaroni and cheese is like the best thing
in the entire world. You did tell me that I need
to try that.
Hot sauce on macaroni and cheese. Yeah.
Like. I had like Buffalo Mac.
I haven't had Chalula on it.
I just put a little like
Chalula like on pretty much like
everybody, but like it's just
kills it kills it i actually told my dad to do it the last time we all had dinner together when my mom
had made homemade macaroni and cheese and like my dad did it and he was like this is like the best
thing in the fucking entire world are they vegetarian or just you just me well but i do love like
holidays and stuff because they go ham with the sides for me like yes you suck that macronin
cheese like biscuits vegetables like all of these like things so like
Next week is going to be.
Holy, it's next week.
It's next week already.
Yeah.
This is the one week that I'm actually working a full week in November.
That's that.
Oh.
Oh, yeah.
Because, yeah.
With your vacation and now holidays.
Veterans Day.
Oh, yeah.
That was.
Last Friday.
His birthday.
Yeah, that was Tyler's birthday.
I went shopping again.
Yeah.
I mean, that's always good.
that's wrong with me you're just living your life you know i'm just trying to to the fullest you're
living your books to grammar life to the fullest you know what i went to target
because i kept seeing on ticot that books that target were buy two get one free
there were no signs there that said that so i didn't want to be like i'm going to get three
bucks. Yeah. And I went there and there was only one Colleen Hoover book I didn't have.
Like, they were completely wiped out. Like, they heard Hadley Hard. I like that better.
They hardly had anything. What's going on? Yeah. So, yeah. So, yeah. So do you have, do you have anyone left?
Do you? I can't remember. Yeah, I do.
I can't remember who's true.
I have one more.
Okay.
And then I have four.
I have four honorable mentions who are actually following the assignment.
Good.
I'm excited to hear them.
So my last one is on Elise Keating from How to Get Away with Murder.
I mean, the title of the show says it itself.
Like, if anyone could be helping with the scheme.
gaming and plotting and masterminding and getting away with it, it's on Elise Keating.
Yeah. Wow.
Any character that Viola Davis has actually played.
That's a really good point. Like, maybe Viola Davis is actually who we need.
Yeah. Oh, my God. I love her. She's amazing.
I'm obsessed with her.
This is such a fun topic that I kind of want to do, like, an episode of, like, the people who would not survive killing it.
That would be fun. That would be a fun, like, thing to think about, too.
I'm thinking, like, Meredith Gray.
Because I love Shonda Rhymes.
Like, I can't help that.
Yeah.
But Meredith Gray would not survive.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And also, like, Olivia Pope would crush Julia.
I almost added her.
Yeah.
But I think Onalise would be even better.
Oh, 100%.
100%.
Like, I love Carrie Washington.
I love scandal.
I love Olivia Pope 100%.
But like...
It's handled.
I just...
I never finished how to get away with murder.
I'm sorry.
I kind of feel like I didn't either.
I feel like I watched four seasons.
But they were great.
I bet you I could binge it from the...
I would probably binge it from the beginning
because I think the first season of that show
is like one of the best shows.
The first season is phenomenal.
It's one of the best shows in the entire world.
First season is what kind of like introduced
me for the most part
to the fact that I liked dark academia
like I didn't know it at the time
good point yeah
but like it's not like I was like I had
found tons of books like that yet
so I think it was one of the first times
where I was like because that made me find
that was how I found the secret history
because I was like I want to read books like
this
did you read this
if we were villains
did you read that? No
I haven't read that one you said that one
had a lot of Shakespeare in it right
That's what I heard, but people were like, who gives it shit.
It's so, like, amazing even if you don't like Shakespeare.
And I was like, okay, I'm kind of curious about that one.
Yeah, I'm definitely curious.
I'm not huge into Shakespeare, but I'm not against it.
The Snow Garden by Christopher Rice is the one that got me into Dark Academia.
Really?
I didn't know there was another book of his that I needed to add.
He has so many.
Yeah, it's like, it's dark academia, but it tells the story of a man.
who's having an affair with his professor,
and then the professor's wife dies under mysterious circumstances.
Oh, boy.
Yeah, that sounds great.
I need to read all of his books somehow.
And all Brian Freeman somehow.
And the trifecta.
And the trifecta.
Well, two of the trifecta.
You already got one done.
That's true.
That's true.
And I need to get into Lars Kepler.
I have a lot to do.
Yeah, yeah, you do.
You do.
Yeah.
My last character is Shea from The Last Housewife.
Yes, I wondered.
I was like, that one's got to be on there.
Yeah.
I don't even have to really say anything other than if you've read it, you get it.
Literally, fuck the patriarchy.
Yeah, yeah.
She would just, you know, any Ashley Wins said character.
Pretty much.
Even stoner.
she really i mean she seems pretty tough
yeah
i mean any any any actually
winstead character
Ashley winstead herself
I think she would be very helpful too
she'd be like all right I'll write a book
you guys go read it and let me out of here
and just they would do it because she's such a good
storyteller convince them
they would like allow her to be a woman who read and wrote
they're like you're right it's good enough
it's good enough we want you to
yeah yeah yeah yep yep yep so that's those are those are mine i yep i think that was a really good list
that was really good list yeah do you want to hear my random do you want to hear my random so these are
people that i completely thought about and wrote down while we were recording okay
Velma from Scooby-Doo.
Oh, that's a good one.
I was not going to think of that one.
Olivia Benson from Law & Order SVU.
I don't watch Law & Order.
Wait, wait, wait, what?
I know.
I know.
I'm so sorry.
I was going to try and pretend like I knew which one she was,
but I don't.
You're sweating.
I only watch
Law and Order SVU.
I don't watch any of the other ones.
Yeah.
I've never started them.
I'm not as into,
what is that?
Serial shows are the ones
where procedural.
I'm not as into it
where it wraps up every single episode.
That's why I've never started it.
But I understand that I've deeply offended you.
No, I'm just very surprised
because I think that if you started it,
you would really like it.
Yeah.
I probably would.
Wow, yeah.
The law and order, special victims unit is like, they're all like
sex crimes and murders.
That's what I thought.
Yeah.
So Olivia Benson would totally do it.
I don't think you get that.
I don't.
Hopefully other people do.
Sydney Prescott.
I can't think that is.
That, yes.
Yes.
Nev Campbell on the screen movies.
Yes.
She's a queen.
And she just like takes.
triumph.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And then my last two are both played by Sarah Michelle Geller.
Mm-hmm.
Catherine from Cruel Intentions.
Yes.
Oh, that's a really important.
Say no more.
Yeah.
Catherine from Cruel Intentions would not break a nail after she beat the shit out of
Serena, locked June in a closet, and burned Gilead to the ground.
Yep.
With her little cross full of cocaine.
And then my, like, I feel like my obvious choice that I was referring to when I said that you were too young is Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
I'm not too young. I just was sheltered. I remember my friends watching it is what I'm saying.
You were, when were you born? What year were you born?
92.
92. Okay. So Buffy the Vampire Slayer started in 1997. So you were not, even if you weren't sheltered, you were too young.
Oh, you're right. They were always watching it on ABC family or one of those places that picked it up syndicated. So you're right. They weren't watching it live. Yeah. Yeah. Because I was born in 87. And so I was only 10 when it came out. And there were like questionable times when like my mom was like, okay, I know you're going to like throw a fit if I tell you like not to watch this. But like this high school girl is like slaying and sleeping with vampires.
Right.
Yeah, the other reason I kind of know about it is because I was obsessed with bones when I was in high school.
So David Horianez became like one of my biggest crushes throughout high school.
So then I learned about him through that show too.
He's amazing.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
If you like bones, you should watch Law & Order SVU because it's way darker.
Oh, I've never watched a procedural like that since becoming an adult.
if that makes any sense.
Like, it was another one where, like, somehow...
You're not living life as an adult if you don't watch Law & Order SVO.
I know, that's what I'm realizing.
I mean, oh, my God.
You know, I will say, though, like, my dad is the same way, and I finally got him watching it.
I'm sure I could enjoy it.
It's another one of those.
There's so many episodes at this point, but I will...
I'll watch a couple.
For you.
I'll tell you an episode to watch.
Okay.
Yeah.
me know. Because there's one that's like really, really, really, really freaking good. And then you'll
see like the beauty of it and you'll be like, holy God. Yeah. Yeah. Let me do that. Yeah. Yeah,
I'll tell you which we'll watch. Nice. Hey, guys. I hope you enjoyed the episode. Be sure to follow
