Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey guys, welcome to the Killing the Tea podcast. This is Gare and Kate. And we are going to be discussing all things, chills, thrills, and kills. Kate and I are going to be talking about our favorite books, TV shows, and movies that are in the thriller or crime fiction genre, as well as some reading habits and other items related to how we met on Bookstagram that will fit in with this podcast. So, Thank you so much for joining us, and we hope that you have fun and get totally terrified. I want him to be part of the podcast. What do you think about books, Bruce? What do you think? He's like, I hate when you guys talk about books and bullshit and take all the attention from me.
Starting point is 00:00:51 Tyler scared him. Now he's hiding under the desk again. Your hair looks fantastic. Well, thank you because I feel sweaty. But I'm really glad that it looks good. No, it looks so good. Thank you. I was literally just debating if I needed to straighten it or not. And now you and Tyler have both been like, no.
Starting point is 00:01:12 No, your hair looks fantastic. Thanks. I did a quit. Your little middle part thing doesn't seem to be happening anymore. I went through it with like a strong brush. And then I washed my face before I got on. And so my hair didn't look like a rat's nest and my skin didn't look greasy. You know what?
Starting point is 00:01:34 I used a matifying powder so that I would not look greasy. And you beat me to saying it. I was like really excited to tell you that. I love, there's, um, oh my God, what's it called? Origins makes a matte moisturizer that I like absolutely love. Yeah. But I like a nice. nice little shine on the cheek above the eyebrow. So I do I think it looks I think it looks great.
Starting point is 00:02:09 That's what I was aiming for. I do too. I do too. And you know what the with the powder. I always look like worse for wear if I if I don't put moisturizer on like sometimes I wash my face and I'm like oh my God like I'm running late for work. to go like four feet, but like, my commute. Work in my living room. Yeah. But I'm like, oh, shit. Like, I got to, like, get ready.
Starting point is 00:02:39 And then, like, I see, like, something in my email that's, like, drastic. And I'm like, I didn't put moisturizer on. And you can always tell the difference. So, like, I feel like, even if you don't use a matte moisturizer, like, any moisturizer will just make you automatically not greasy throughout the day. I think so, too. I actually. This is the, I got a pump container for my first aid beauty lotion so that I don't have to dig with my nails into the tub.
Starting point is 00:03:09 Yeah. And so this is just chilling here because I can't handle the feeling of like tight skin after I wash my hands or my face. Like, dresses me out. But wait a second. Wait a second. Wait a second. You're freaking me out a little bit. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:28 Why? Why this time? Do you know you recommended a show to me in like September? I'm sure I did. I haven't told you that I started watching it because it's been very sporadic. Oh yeah. And I started watching Insecure. I thought that was probably what it was when you said you've been watching it sporadically.
Starting point is 00:03:55 Okay. But the weird thing is the episode that I just watched was the one where Issa and her boyfriend were in the like um the home goods sort of store and they saw a man and a woman fighting over a pump oh yeah do you remember this like he was like I want to put our soap in this pump or something it was like a home goods store they had like this like wire basket and this guy was like I want to buy the pump to put like lotion or something in and she was like it comes in a bottle you don't need it and he was like we're never going to fight over a pump and you're like I put mine in this pump and I'm like, what the fuck?
Starting point is 00:04:34 There's a glitch in the Matrix. That's so weird. And that it was just like chilling here. Well, yeah. And I was going to tell you I started it. But what happened was I did start it. I was going to tell you. But then I deviated from my plan because I started watching Swarm.
Starting point is 00:04:52 Have you finished it? Did I sound like a B? I did not finish it. And no, you sounded very intrigued. Okay. Even if it was an intrigued. bumblebee um no i'm i watched four or five episodes saturday night and i like went to bed and i was just like so tired and i was just lying there and i was like i don't like what the fuck am i watching
Starting point is 00:05:23 it is so good but it is like out of control you there's no way you can guess what's going to happen even though i do think you have psychic capabilities and really very much Clearly. Creeping me out sometimes. But yeah, like, I just don't think, you'll probably fucking guess it, but like nobody else well. Maybe. I don't know. I love Donald Glover's one of the writers.
Starting point is 00:05:47 I can't remember the one. It's a really unique name. But I always love his stuff. And he's pretty good at, like, flipping things on you. It is so good. It is so freaking good. So, the main. The main actress in it, her name is Dominique Fishback.
Starting point is 00:06:07 Okay. I actually loved her in, oh, my God, what is the name of the show? There's a show that she's in, The Deuce. Oh, okay. I feel like I remember hearing about that. It's like Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Franco are in it, and it's like, oh. Oh, my God. James Franco and Maggie Jelenhall are in it.
Starting point is 00:06:31 And it's like the sex work industry in the 70s in New York City, like how it went from like sex work to like pornography and things like that. And like escort. Yes. And I watched the first season. It was fantastic. Oh, I need a one too. I remember seeing a trailer.
Starting point is 00:06:52 It's so good. It's so good. There's this like one scene of Maggie Gyllenhaal like showing probably like five or six. different emotions in like under 60 seconds. That's like that white lotus clip that went viral with Megan Fahey. Yeah. That sounds amazing. This is more intense because like I'm talking like full on sobbing as one of them.
Starting point is 00:07:18 And then like laughing it off. She's just fantastic anyway. She's amazing. My future sister-in-law. Hopefully. I know. Fingers crossed. Jacob Allorty, Jake Jelen Hall.
Starting point is 00:07:32 You like the Jakes I do like the Jakes I still laugh at the time that you were like tall, dark, and handsome well I guess any type is your type or something like so like I was like yeah so now I guess I narrowed it down to Jakes
Starting point is 00:07:53 I know when I keep sneaking in episodes of euphoria here and there like I feel like I'm like an addict like I'm like I'm like I'm like I'm like I'm watching. Insecure, Kate, and then, like, I watch, like, two episodes and I, like, sneak in an episode of Euphoria. That's a good... That's a good combo, though.
Starting point is 00:08:11 Insecure is so good. At first, I sort of... Fantastic. I, like, I always have a hard time with the beginning of shows, because I feel like they don't really give me anything. And, like, that one, I was like, okay, this is, like, pretty good, but then, like... You get so attached. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:28 Yeah. Although... I guess, I don't know. it's hard to like spoil a show like that because I'm not saying anything big. But the only thing is is I've like so far loved her friend Molly. Yes. Except for right now because there is this like gorgeous man who is like obsessed with Molly and loves her. But she's pulling back from him because he said that he received a blowjob from a man in like high school or college.
Starting point is 00:08:56 He was like this guy and I got drunk and like we did it and like it was like a one time thing and like I haven't done it since and I've only done it. once and she was like, he's gay. Freaking out. Yeah. And I hate that. I do too. I remember that storyline. But, and the fact that that show like explores a lot of like the tricky things of relationships. My God. It's so good. I'm not saying she's in the right. It just like, it explores like the things that can go wrong in all kinds of ways. I also, well, you know what the here's the thing to. So here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:09:31 is I'm also like, my thing is, and I've seen gay men do this, and all sorts of people say like, oh, he hooked up with a guy once, he's gay. Like, not like he's by or bi-curious or questioning. So, like, the fact of the matter is, like, it doesn't matter if you hook up with a guy like 1700 times. Like, you are bisexual when you feel like you are attracted to both men and women. And you want to explore a relationship with them, whether it's a sexual. one or loving one or whatever the case may be, but like, people can be curious and hook up with
Starting point is 00:10:06 somebody and not automatically be gay. I agree. Or buy. There's questioning. There's... Because, like, I also feel like there are some people who, like, maybe they really don't know that they could be attracted to, like, a woman or man. But then they meet the right person, and all of a sudden, they're like, oh, it was about finding the right person. So there's also that. I totally believe in people who Well, I mean, they've said it But I also like fully believe in I don't know what it is
Starting point is 00:10:41 I don't know if it's pansexuality But yeah, I think that's what it's called Who like base it on a personality Instead of like Anatomy Yeah, it's like vibes Yeah, pretty much Pretty much
Starting point is 00:10:56 And it can be anyone I have been drooling over Jacob Belordie and Jake Gyllenhaal for my entire life. Okay, not my entire life, but like since I've seen like laid eyes on them. But like I went and saw Scream 6 and guess what? If Melissa Barrera winked at me, I'd probably faint. And I told you this. I know.
Starting point is 00:11:14 You were having a by panic. I was like, I don't want to sleep with her, but I want to marry her and like give her all of the love I can give her in a non-sual way. I felt the same way about her in that movie. So. Oh, my ever-loving God. men and women. I know, right?
Starting point is 00:11:33 I also, yeah, I also feel like right now is a good time for people to just know that this is a new sort of episode. And it's, we're not going to be reading synopsis or synopsies. I don't think God, because you all can hear how I'm talking. From good reads, because it's like, what was it, the Hurricane Blonde that had all the S's and I was like all fucked up. Yes. And then there was, in the girls and their horses one, I kept saying a word just completely wrong every single time.
Starting point is 00:12:07 It took three times. So this is our thriller sash, like a gossip sash. But we're going to talk, yeah, we're going to talk about whatever we want. Whatever we want. I brought up insecure, and that counts as thriller sesh, because my heart is thrilled with all of the beautiful fucking men in that show. And everyone is beautiful in that show.
Starting point is 00:12:35 They're all beautiful. Everyone. Everyone. There's a clip that I keep seeing on TikTok of the woman who is the principal in Love Simon. Oh, yeah. The guidance counselor. And she's pretending to have a British accent. And something happens.
Starting point is 00:12:54 And she's like, oh, fuck. And this guy's like, where's your accent? And she's like, uh, like fuck you or whatever and I just got introduced to her so I just finally met her so she's amazing yes I love their girlfriend group oh my god so good I like love it and their half hour episodes they are and the men are fucking insane I know a man who Molly is not interested in because he like remember him um yeah because there was a very intense sex scene and And I was like, Molly.
Starting point is 00:13:28 Like, that was what popped into my head right when you said she was with a beautiful man. He gave her breakfast and then he gave her breakfast. Yes, he did. And I was like, Molly, a gay man is not going to do that to you. Right. I think you are absolutely beautiful. But, like, I am going to, like, buy you coffee and, like, let you vent about mental me. Yes.
Starting point is 00:13:54 I don't buy you coffee and talk about Molly. Oh my God. Oh my God. I know. And it was like a kid cereal too, which made me love him. I'm like, okay, I can totally. God, he was. I love cereal.
Starting point is 00:14:10 I do too, and I never have milk. Me neither. I buy cereal. I buy cereal at the grocery store. And then it just expires because it sits there. Like the Reese's peanut butter puffs. I don't know. Yeah, I think you're right.
Starting point is 00:14:30 Yeah. Reesies puffs. Yes, frisies puffs. Cinnamon toast crunch. Oh, cinnamon toast crunch is the best. Yep. There's one called, I don't know if you have this because I haven't seen them in a while. They're called O's.
Starting point is 00:14:47 Mm-mm. Is it the Oreos? No. It is like somewhat healthy because my grandmother used to buy them for me and she was like, my grandmother was like the funniest one of my favorite stories about her is the time that she was like, I don't think Garrett gets enough protein and I was like literally
Starting point is 00:15:03 like six. Like what kid who six year old gets enough protein anyway? But like she was like I don't think he gets enough protein and like she made me box macaroni and cheese but she snuck like scrambled eggs in it. That's kind of smart. No, because six year old me was like
Starting point is 00:15:20 you knew what? I did know. I called my mom and I was like whispering. I was like I was like, grandma snuck eggs in my macquine cheese. Oh my gosh, I love this. You've got to get me out of here. That's an amazing story. But they're called O's, and they look like, probably like dine-sized Cheerios, like oversized Cheerios, like there's like oats, like crunchy, crunchy ass oats in the middle of each one. It's the best.
Starting point is 00:15:54 It's the best best. And it's like a yellow box. Oh, yeah. H-S. Yes, O's. I found them. Oath for hoes. But are you ready to be completely freaked out?
Starting point is 00:16:08 The Cheerios that I have been eating are called Oak Crunch Cheerios that Cheerios just put out. I just had some for breakfast today. And it's crunchy oats in the middle of it. And I love the texture. Does it shred the roof of your mouth a little bit? Oh, yeah, a little bit. But you don't care because it's so delicious. good. The crunch is so perfect. What the fuck? This is so weird. I will send you a picture of it after
Starting point is 00:16:33 Oh my god. I'm reading out a little bit. Our Meyer like just got it like a couple weeks ago. That is insane. That is insane. I know. I just never have milk. Yeah. I have to get like silk or like soy milk or oat milk or something. It lasts longer too. But I just don't do like the 2% like oh I love milk. My stomach is not meant for that. But I mean, I don't just drink it though. No, I can't have it in my cereal or anything. It will be... But yeah, you just don't have it at all. I can't. My stomach can't handle it. I would do it if I could. Right. I'm not like doing it to be like a... For fun. Pita member. That's a really nice way of putting it.
Starting point is 00:17:25 Yeah. Thank you. Yeah. So what's getting you hot under your collar these days? What doesn't? What TV shows be on? This is Thriller Shash. We're just going to talk about what TV shows just make us really horny. Yeah. You're up, Kate. I mean, this one does count. We watched The Night Agent this week. So good. And it's making me obsessing. with Sky Thrillers again. Was he in something else?
Starting point is 00:18:01 I don't know. I don't think I've seen him in anything else. I'm like, hmm. Every week, it's like a new profile picture. Oh, my God. Oh, dear. There we go. Maybe it'll stay. So I don't know.
Starting point is 00:18:19 I didn't look into what he'd been in. I was so captivated by him on the screen. he is. I wrote an article for She Reads about the show coming out. And he's obviously like on the poster that I used for my picture. And I was like, oh my. Do you, because you're like a spy girlie. Like you're very like espionage mysterious.
Starting point is 00:18:47 Like we talked about this. Like you could be on like, you could be Mrs. Robot. Right. So. Oh, you're my missus robot. Oh, thanks. And I'm just the horror on the other side of the camera. You said it.
Starting point is 00:19:08 Thirsting after all the men on the TV shows I watch. Oh, my God, for real. But spy thrillers. Spy thrillers, you are that bitch. Like, you can follow them very quickly. Like, you get what's going on. I get lost in the shuffle. So do you think like on a scale of like one being me and 10 being you like where do you think people have to be in order to like be able to follow the night agent?
Starting point is 00:19:40 It especially because of like the music too. Like it's it's a very like obvious you like know what the reveals are. So part of my answer. But do you understand the story? I think so. and like you think that you have full faith that if i watched i'd understand what's going on i do and so here's here's the interesting part the thing that i didn't tell you yet because i was actually saving it for the podcast was that as i was watching it the night agent is a lot like um nordic noir
Starting point is 00:20:13 in my opinion so you know how like you have like all the characters and like really short scenes and sometimes you don't know how all the characters are going to like matter yeah find out by the And it was really similar. It was reminding me of Nordic noir. So it was making me think you might like it. Okay. I might have to give it a shot. And if there's eye candy.
Starting point is 00:20:36 But it won't be until I'm done, Swarm and Insecure. Mm-hmm. There's something else that's like in the back of my mind that I need to watch. Hmm. I have been feeling that way, actually. Because I need Swarm is the next one that I'll watch. watch, but I want to read again. Do you know Billy Elish is in it?
Starting point is 00:21:01 Yeah, I saw a clip of that on TikTok. She was fantastic. Yeah. It looked like it. I was like, damn, girl. She's so good in it. She's very talented. But it's very, I thought of you because it's episodic, but it's not.
Starting point is 00:21:20 So, like, each story is, like, a different time frame and a different, like, plot. But it all wraps in together. And it, like, makes fun of, like, fan culture. For fandom, right. Like, it's a thing on Beyonce. Like, it's, like, a satire on, like, Beyonce and the beehive. And, like, I'm part, I'm not, like, I don't have, like, a tattoo or anything or, like, a membership. But, like, I'm, like, definitely, like, a beehive member.
Starting point is 00:21:49 I love my girl Beyonce. And it is so good. And it's also, like, I'm not that crazy. Like, I'm going to do what I can to support her. albums. I want to see her on tour. I'll buy merchandise. If somebody like says like Beyonce's not that talented or like she's overrated, I'll like defend her. Right. But this takes it to a whole other level and it's so
Starting point is 00:22:13 freaking good. I'm so excited. You're going to love it because there's it's a lot of satire. I love that. I know. I could tell you from the trailer. You're going to be just the happiest in the world with this. Because it's like psychological horror satire. Oh, that sounds amazing. It's so good. It's so good. It's disturbing at some points, but it's very good.
Starting point is 00:22:39 And it's funny. Yeah. Yeah. I think you'll really like it. The other thing I just remembered about the night agent that you will like is that, like, euphoria, each episode opens up with, like, something from the past for, like, each new character that they're, like, introducing. is very cool.
Starting point is 00:22:59 I like that. It reminded me of Euphoria and Nordic Noir, so maybe you will like it. We'll see. I might. I mean, I'm not giving a shot. I might give it a shot. I've been watching, like, a lot of movies lately.
Starting point is 00:23:16 Yeah. I watched... I'm watching John Wicks. Oh, yeah. I can't. I heard a dog dies at it. Oh, yeah, in the first one, it's terrible. I just I can't. Is it like the very beginning?
Starting point is 00:23:31 Like how far do I have to go? Like probably 10 minutes in, 5 to 10 minutes in. It's right at the beginning. This isn't not a spoiler, really. Like these have been out for a long time. Part of his been, like part of why he gets so angry is that someone kills his wife and their new baby puppy one night. And he kills a ton of people in revenge. So I just skip it.
Starting point is 00:24:00 I watched the rom-com. Okay. All right. That's all I need to know. Like, none of them. Yeah. I mean, it's a puppy. Do you see it or do you just hear it?
Starting point is 00:24:12 I, you kind of, you see, see it in the shadows. Like, I don't, it wasn't like, but it's not totally off camera, I guess. I'm trying to think, if I could handle it. There's like a part where Michael Myers, strangles a dog in the original Halloween movie. And I always kind of like turn my head away and just pretend that the noise the dog makes is because it got sprayed by a skunk. Yeah. But American Psycho, there's a part where Patrick Bateman kills a homeless man and kills the dog that's with him.
Starting point is 00:24:50 And I always fast forward to that part. That one's terrible. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All you need to know about this setup is that they kill. the wife and dog so you really can go right to like 10 minutes if you want to it's also just very much
Starting point is 00:25:07 like it's a very visual experience like it's a really they're all really beautifully choreographed like literally just like shoot them up movies so like there is plot but it's also just kind of like visually if you like seeing people pull off like really creative fight choreography yeah that's what makes them fun. Did you watch The Matrix? No. No. I couldn't get into it. It was too, like,
Starting point is 00:25:41 complex for me. I know. I was going to try to, though, because I don't even want to call us a fun fact because she's not with us anymore. But surprise fact is that Alia, the singer who passed away, she was supposed to be in one of the Matrix movies and, like, had started filming.
Starting point is 00:26:00 when she died and they like had to like cut her out and replace her because she passed away so I was going to try to like get into them so I could see her but that I did not I'm trying to think of like I love like Batman movies
Starting point is 00:26:21 yeah I feel like if you like it was just so much like the Juno Linna books in my opinion in the experience of like spending time with characters and not quite knowing where it's headed and then it all comes together at the end. It's also like really short scenes too. But then the other thing is like they play bad guy music
Starting point is 00:26:50 when there's a bad guy and there's like good guy. So like you know just from like the clues that they even give you that you can have with TV. Do you know what I've been watching? Accused? I was like, I only know the ones you've already said. I'm trying to think if it's accused or the accused. I think it's accused.
Starting point is 00:27:16 But it's the show on, like, Fox and it's on Hulu, and it's episodic. And it's, like, all of these people that are being accused of crimes, and, like, you kind of, like, go back to, like, find out what happened. Yeah. I have never been more emotional watching. a crime show in my entire life. That's a big statement. Like the acting and the like storylines.
Starting point is 00:27:43 There's only been one so far that I didn't really care for. It's just so good. So good. I need to watch that. I forgot that you said you were even like emotional about that one. I forgot. I totally forgot about it. Oh my gosh.
Starting point is 00:28:00 I. had a moment. So I'm going to be completely honest. I have not like cried like cried. And over a year but like during that show I've had like tears coming down my face which is enough because like I can't
Starting point is 00:28:20 I don't think I can like physically like sob anymore I had like a rough week last week at the end of it and I tried to cry Friday and it just didn't work. I tried to. I tried to because I was like, I feel like it'll be therapeutic and like if I just have a good cry, it'll get out.
Starting point is 00:28:38 But like I like tried and I swear to God it was like, do you know when you're little and you play with like the water guns? Yeah. And like the very last one, it's like two hard little like pellets of water come out and then like you realize that there's no water left in the gun. That's what my face felt like. Like I feel like I saw like
Starting point is 00:28:54 two tears like fly out of my right eye and like that was all it was going to give me. And I was like, okay. Well, That's funny. But that show does make me have a little moist eye moment. That means I will cry, cry then. Probably. Because I cried reading Ashley Winstead's acknowledgments in the boyfriend candidate this week.
Starting point is 00:29:19 So I probably will too. I probably will too. It was such a beautiful acknowledgments. And a really fun. sweet, sweet, sweet book. It was just so sweet. It's the sweetest thing I've ever read. That's your thrilling moment.
Starting point is 00:29:37 I know. It was so cute. And then very spicy at the end. Like, completely sweet. And then like, she went all in at the end. I'm reading. I am not reading a Saxon James romance right now.
Starting point is 00:29:56 I know that's shocking to everybody. It's not a hockey romance. Did everything just get super bright on me? It did. You look a lot brighter. I felt like it got darker for a second there. And I was like, maybe it's just me. It's weird. So I'm reading Class Act by Gianni Holmes right now. And it is a male male age gap romance between a male cheerleader and a football coach.
Starting point is 00:30:27 I started it and I was like, this book is 500 pages. Whoa. I didn't know that. I flew through it I'm 80% and I just started it two nights ago It's that good It's so good but it's like angsty And like obviously it's a romance
Starting point is 00:30:50 So eventually there's going to be Body parts going in places So like when that finally does happen It is very steamy but it's like so angsty And I'm just so curious about like how it But it was just so good And it's like um The male cheerily
Starting point is 00:31:05 is like androgynous so like we'll wear like skirts and other things like that and I just feel like it's such a good representation of like different people that you find within the queer community oh I love that it's so good I can't wait it's amazing yeah yeah and it's just so steamy it's I can't limited too yes it is yes it is I know that because I was like, oh my God. So thank you. Holly reads M.M. on Instagram.
Starting point is 00:31:44 Like, I just like message her and I'm like, I actually have a separate, like, my wish lists on Amazon are like books, thrillers that I'm expecting review copies of, thrillers I need to buy myself, queer, Kindle romances I want to read. And then it's like Holly's recommendations. because like there's like 30 bucks and I'm just like oh my god but there's um so many of them
Starting point is 00:32:12 I can't stop I can't stop and I just like I like started this one and I loved it so much and I was like when I finished this I'm gonna go back to my regularly scheduled programming of a thriller yeah and I had this like Y a thriller and I read four pages of it and I was like not right now I don't blame you. Not right now. I'm reading, like, when I finish this, I'm picking up another, like, queer romance. And I think it might be a divorced men's club one by Saxon James. Nice. There are a ton of those, right?
Starting point is 00:32:53 Which one? The divorce one. Yeah. She has all different kinds. She has hockey ones. She has the frat boy one. She has the divorced men's club. Oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:33:15 That is not the face you want when you're talking about gay romance. Or is it? Or is it? It's either perfect or not. That's amazing. Yeah, Sax and James is the shit. Like, I love her. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:33:32 She's so good. She's so good. There's just, I'm in that mood right now where I want to read everything. Like, I want to not be working my day job. I want to read romance or I want to read thrillers during the day. And then when the sun goes down, I want to binge like steamy gay romance. I love that. That would be good. Yeah. That's just what I want in life right now. And I have no issues with it. I've also been shopping a lot, like bookwise. Okay, I was like with books I want to tell you some of the surprises I have for you You can, it's up to you You don't like surprises anyway, do you? I don't I mean, I know
Starting point is 00:34:19 I mean I would with books, I guess is where I'm like saying it But you can definitely tell me too Like I would definitely tell Tyler not to ever surprise me I got you a copy long and far away gone I need to read that one I didn't buy it I feel like I almost bought it on one of those Kindle double days. Do you know who Kara Thomas is?
Starting point is 00:34:45 She wrote a book called The Cheerleaders. It's like a Y-A thriller. She wrote that weekend. It's a Y-A thriller. I didn't talk about that one. Yes, I have it on my to read list when I'd asked you about Y-A thrillers. She has a new thriller coming out. It's her first adult thriller.
Starting point is 00:35:05 Ooh. This is your copy. This is coming to you. It is so beautiful. I love this cover. And the grand finale. Speaking of covers you love. Speaking of covers I love.
Starting point is 00:35:20 Oh my gosh. I don't even know which one. I have a physical arc of the new Mindy Mejia book coming your way. That cover is awesome, too. I know. Oh, my God. I'm so pumped. It's amazing.
Starting point is 00:35:37 I'm so pumped. I'm excited. All the stuff. Well, the thing is, is I keep getting ready to send you these things and then something else comes in and I'm like, she would love this. Or I, like, I'm shopping and I'm like, oh, my God, I have to get this for her. I just. So I'm part of the shopping problem. Well, no, I actually ordered, I'm looking right now.
Starting point is 00:36:04 I ordered, um, there's a book called Devil House. by John Darniel. It looks like Danielle with an R in it. I love the cover, and it looks kind of like thriller-horreary, so I got that. There's a book called... Oh, that cover is so cool. Isn't it cool? I got that. I got the Falling by T.J. Newman.
Starting point is 00:36:32 You might like this, because it looks like it's like an action thriller. I think it's like a pilot is flying a plane. plane and these terrorists have his daughter and they're like if you don't crash this plane we're going to kill your child that sounds like an action thriller then um i got a copy of hidden bodies by caroline kepness because that's the only one i don't have for some reason i think somebody took it on me um and i got if i disappear by eliza jane brazier i haven't have you i'm assuming you haven't read it yet i haven't read that one yet either i haven't read it but it's about it has a podcast element so I got a copy of it because I was like if we decide to read that together then I want to
Starting point is 00:37:18 have it on hand. And it's another really cool cover. Yeah, but also I like to get things in advance if we everybody read them together so I already have them because all you do is hit that little download button on your Kindle and like you're ready to go. That is all I do. You're not wrong. I think there's something else I was going to say about that. might have disappeared. Oh, no. What I was going to say is what I'm currently reading. That's what I was thinking of.
Starting point is 00:37:52 Oh, yeah. Could you imagine if you were like, I'm reading a queer hockey romance? I just like totally shock you. I was like, surprise. I would love it. I do need to at some point. What I think I kind of noticed to though, Ashley is such a good writer.
Starting point is 00:38:10 So I will read whatever genre she writes. Right. But I just need some suspense with my romance, typically. I need something else happening, too. Love and monsters. I know. I have thought of that one. Because I think I would enjoy that. I just need like something else going on, typically. Yeah. Yeah. I, you know, I think the same way, too. but if I'm really invested in a romance Yeah I almost feel like it's a thriller because I'm like Are they actually going to end up together?
Starting point is 00:38:52 How is it going to happen? What obstacles are we going to face as a couple? Right. So it just depends. Yeah. It just depends. For me it just has to be two really hot men that I want to have sex.
Starting point is 00:39:09 Right. Because if it's like a man-woman couple, I have to be really invested in their relationship. Otherwise, I'm just going to be like, I want to have sex with him. Right. You're like, I don't want you to be with him. Yeah, I want him to myself. And I felt that way with Fool Me Once by Ashley Winstead. I was so in love with the man in that story.
Starting point is 00:39:33 But I also loved Stoner. Like, I was like, oh, my God, she's like beautifully chaotic and I love her. But I also was like, I kind of want him to myself. Yeah. Ben is amazing and he makes an appearance in the boyfriend candidate because it's about her sister, Alexis. Oh my gosh. Oh, my heartbeats. I know.
Starting point is 00:39:56 It's a really, really, and like where Lee or Stoner is like a beautiful chaotic mess, Alexis is just like this super, super introverted librarian. We love that. She's totally different, but so sweet and nice. You're going to want her man to, though. Oh, probably. You know me. It's a big old.
Starting point is 00:40:20 Also amazing. Gobble, gobble. Actually, writes Greatman. Yes, she does. Did you start something new? Yes. Oh, my gosh. And it's called the new one.
Starting point is 00:40:38 Coincidentally. Um, Tamson. This, what? Tamson. Isn't there a character name? There is a character named Tamson. I love that name.
Starting point is 00:40:51 I do too. I do too. And I was going to ask you about that, but I wanted to wait until tonight when we recorded because you sent me the little screenshot. And I was like, hmm, I don't recognize that name. So. Yeah. Yes.
Starting point is 00:41:06 About the new one. It is like, um, A sci-fi thriller, that is what I would call it, about basically these parents, Ed and Tamsin. Oh my gosh, I'm frozen, which is funny. Ed and Tamsin, their daughter, has been acting up for a while. And her name is Scarlett, but she, in her teen years, just gets really out of control. and she is in a really bad accident and basically their insurance is about to run out. She's like been in a coma and these people offer them the ability to make a hybrid of Scarlett
Starting point is 00:41:54 like using her DNA and then using like an AI human interface in her brain. So definitely a sci-fi thriller. but I will say it doesn't get into any of the science of it and all of it is about oh my gosh, why is it doing this? All of it is about Tamsin's experience and like all of a sudden her being like
Starting point is 00:42:24 I think something fishy is happening here. So it's not like you're not like spending time with robots really. And then Scarlett wakes up. That's in the synopsis. I haven't gotten there. I just started it yesterday. But then the girl who was in the coma wakes up
Starting point is 00:42:43 and that's what kickstarts like a bunch of dark secrets coming out. Okay. And it's vibey and amazing. And it takes place in Geneva and now I want to go to Geneva because it's beautiful. Where's Geneva? Switzerland. I didn't know either.
Starting point is 00:43:03 Oh, okay. Yeah. I'm like, because that was going to. I thought with the name Tamsin, it was going to be. the UK. Yes. So I was, that was going to be my next question. It starts in the UK and the intrero, T-R-U-R-O, and Switzerland is the place where they can legally do this kind of, they're like, don't call it a clone, but for the sake of like everyone understanding the gist of it, they're making a clone of her. And they can only do it in Switzerland legally. They can't do it
Starting point is 00:43:35 anywhere else so they moved to Switzerland Interesting. There was another really fun name Or was it? I don't know, I'm going to send it to you because I saw it and I was like, I've never read a book with this name in it and it was so pretty. There were two names in the thing you Rally? Or Raleigh.
Starting point is 00:43:53 Or Raleigh, it was A-U-R-E-L-I-E. Yeah, that was in the screenshot you sent me because I Googled Tamsin Arelli. Yeah. That's awesome. Like the book would come up, but like I was I just, yeah, I just did not... It's way moodier than I thought it would be. Ooh.
Starting point is 00:44:14 Like, it's not as... Like, I wanted to dive into kind of a sci-fi one now that I'm like almost... Now that I'm mostly caught up on work, I wanted to dive into this one. And it actually is just like a lot more about... It kind of reminds me of, like, watcher. That's like Tamsin's experience.
Starting point is 00:44:34 is like I'm getting the vibe that she's going to keep thinking things are a little fishy and no one's going to believe her. But I don't know yet. So check back. I miss. I miss that movie. I've been rewatching.
Starting point is 00:44:50 You know what? I'm going to be very transparent for a second. Whenever I'm like going through it or having just like a little rough go of things, I will watch, rewatch movies that I loved. I'm not saying I'm re-watching rom-coms and sobbing or like, you know, steal magnolias or anything. I'm like re-watching like the skeleton key with Kate Hudson.
Starting point is 00:45:15 I'm re-watching like just a bunch of movies that I like love. And watch is like one of the ones I really want to. I really want to watch it. That was so good. I love her performance in that movie. And you recommended it to me before we were even podcasting. I know. Well, you posted about it. You didn't recommend it to me specifically. And then I was like, oh my God, I'm going to watch this.
Starting point is 00:45:42 I just the only thing. Did you watch Prisoners? Yes. I loved that so much. Remember I got so into it that I sent you like a 20 page. Someone's like thesis on it. Yeah. I was so into it that I was like Googling all the like I wanted to like know all the Easter eggs and connections that I missed. I just love that movie so much I haven't watched it in a while There's something I recommended to you that I was wondering if you'd watched yet I'm thinking Well
Starting point is 00:46:16 Fear I haven't watched that that's what it is I haven't watched much I haven't read much It took me nine days to read The Boyfriend Candidate That's also true That's also true I just haven't
Starting point is 00:46:32 Until recently When I was scrolling through the books that I, the book, when I was scrolling through like the movies that I like have bought on iTunes, on my Apple TV, I like saw fear and I was like, do I want to watch that again already? I did. I kind of did want to watch it again. But you should. It's good to have like the things you know will just like make you happy, like comfort movies. I know. I watched a rom-com.
Starting point is 00:47:01 I watched. Oh, yeah. And did you look, how did you feel about that one? I thought it was so fucking cute. I was like, awesome. Loving it. I was loving it. And what is it called again so we can tell people?
Starting point is 00:47:13 I can't remember what it's even called. Your place or mine, I think. Yep. It's Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Coucher. So the minute you open Netflix, they're going to be like throwing it in your face. Yeah. I thought it was so freaking cute. And I loved their performances.
Starting point is 00:47:28 And I loved the plot. And there's this woman. Her name is. Tig Nataro. Tig Natarro. Oh my God. I love her. Okay. She's in it. She's in it. She's amazing. I love her. I don't know. Is she a comedian?
Starting point is 00:47:46 Yes. And she has written a show that is just like one of the most emotional shows I've ever watched. She's a powerful storyteller. She's one of those comedians that does like, you're like kind of like, sometimes life is fucked comedy. And so it's like one of those kind of shows. Which show is that? I'm trying to, it has a name like, it has a really specific name, and I watched it years ago. So hold on.
Starting point is 00:48:16 It's called One Mississippi. Okay. And it was on, yeah, it's on Amazon. Tragic comedy is what it says it's called. Okay. So that's what life is fucked comedy is actually called. It's amazing. Um, my TIG Nataro story.
Starting point is 00:48:36 Uh-huh. Is I saw her on TikTok because she was on Jimmy Fallon. Yeah. Because she guessed something completely wrong on Wheel of Fortune, I believe. Okay. And she, like, they were like, did you just, like, panic? And she's like, no. I guessed what I actually thought.
Starting point is 00:49:00 That's what it was. And it was something, like, completely. ridiculous. But the way she was telling the story, I was like, oh my God, I want to hang out with this woman. I don't care. Like, I love her. And if you love her, like her comedy and stuff, like just her personality, you'll love her in the movie. Oh, that makes me happy. They kind of typecasted her. Yeah. She's probably being herself. Yeah. Yeah. She's fantastic. I was actually like watching it. And like the minute she came on, I was like, oh my God, I didn't know she was in. If I'm I listen, Reese, Ashton, if you guys ever hear this, like, I do love you.
Starting point is 00:49:36 But, like, if I knew Tig was in this movie, I would have watched it a long time ago. Like, the day it came out. Same. Same. You just sold me on it. Like, I will be watching it. I love her energy. She just has a calming, deadpan energy.
Starting point is 00:49:56 There's another. And she helped write, they co-wrote one Mississippi. And her wife acts in it, too. I love that. There's another person. There's another lady in the movie. Yeah, it's called You Replace or Mine. Zoe Chow.
Starting point is 00:50:21 Why do I feel like I know who she did? Because she was in, if you watched Senior Year with Rebel Wilson, where she, like, goes into a coma and, like, wakes up like in her 30s and like wants to like finish her like senior year of high school. This woman is like the bitchy like mean girl. But in her name's Zoe Chow. And but like in this your place or my movie, she's just like this like funny like kind of like just great comedic timing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:57 And I love her. So not only is it a good main cast, but the supporting cast is really good. good. That's even better. I'm going to warn you, though. Okay. If you watch this movie, you're going to want to move to California and you're going to want Reese Witherspoon's house. I believe it. I want all the places that people... It's not... All the houses, like big little eyes. I even wanted their houses. It's not that kind of house. Oh. But you're going to want it. You'll know what I mean when you see it. Oh, my gosh. Yeah. California's been calling my name.
Starting point is 00:51:37 I want to go to California or I want to move to California. Probably both. Probably. Go visit, figure out where you want to live, then move there. I support this decision. Yeah, we'll be even farther from each other. That's a good point. We're actually closer than I realize. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:59 or basically I realized it one day. Yeah. And I need four seasons. And Tyler keeps flying out near you. I'm so pissed that we didn't think of things ahead of time and have you fly to Vermont with Tyler. Well, these little assholes are the problem. That's also true. That's also true.
Starting point is 00:52:25 We'll make it happen one day, though. We're going to figure it out. I want to go on like a tour of your area in Indiana. I'm sure we can find There are some nice things here to look at We need to find Ashley Flowers Oh, I know
Starting point is 00:52:44 I can't even remember what that town was called But I know she lives there Do you listen to her podcasts? Never gotten into true crime I will if you would like me too Like you don't get into true crime podcasts or I don't get into true crime at all
Starting point is 00:53:08 at all yeah how did I not know this I feel like you did I'm kind of surprised No I did not know this No no we've never had this That's crazy to me
Starting point is 00:53:21 I think it's scary oh yes it is I don't like reading Okay well I don't like reading it but I find the show is fascinating Because I might enjoy it I find shows and podcasts fascinating because she has two different podcasts that I listen to. She has Crime Junkie, which is phenomenal. Operation Fireball.
Starting point is 00:53:48 Listen to Operation Fireball. Yeah, it's my Spotify. You're going to love it. And so she has Crime Junkie, which I really love because those are solved cases. Now, she also has another one called The Deck. which is prisons take unsolved cold cases and put information on them on the back of playing cards. So when prisoners are playing cards in prison, if they see information about a case they know about, they can take the card and give the information so that they can help solve the case.
Starting point is 00:54:23 Oh, wow. So she'll be like, Ace of Spades, Garrett Billings, murdered in a crime of passion by Jacob Allorty. But they're all unsolved. Oh, my God. That would just be... That's how you want to go out. Fantastic. Well, I keep getting...
Starting point is 00:54:44 I have a new thing. I was cracking a joke with my friend Nicole because we were very invested in the Idaho case. I'm still invested in it. There's just no new news until they start trial. But, you know, I stopped by my friend Nicole's last night because she's also invested in it. but she's been having not a very easy week.
Starting point is 00:55:06 So I did what any friend would do, which was drop off a baggie full of liquid IV for her to help perk her up. And I was talking to her husband, and I was like, I bet you thought life was going to get easier once they caught Brian Coburger. And he was kind of like laughing because like, you know, obviously that case just like disturbed a lot of people. And I should have kept my mouth shut because I,
Starting point is 00:55:33 now I'm getting TikToks of tarot readers telling me that somebody is stalking me. And each one is getting more intense. I sent you the one that was ridiculously intense that creeped me out last night.
Starting point is 00:55:50 Yes. That was wild. And I was like, she was like, it's a dark energy and I was like, uh, and each one I say, or each one I see keeps getting like more and more intense.
Starting point is 00:56:01 So like when we, started this podcast. I was like, oh, if I had a stocker, I'd be like, what made you pick me? But now I'm like, oh, my God, I don't think I want one anymore. So be careful you put out in the universe. I know. That is the weird. It is like, I don't know what I'm trying to say. I'm trying to say sometimes in books or TV shows, something sounds thrilling. And then you're like, Never mind. Not for me. Yeah. There's, I don't know what it is.
Starting point is 00:56:35 I'm trying to think of it. Oh, stalker by Lars Kepler. I was like, nope, I don't want a stalker. No, no, no. Yeah, that was terrifying. But then I watch Fear and I'm like, imagine somebody being that in love with you. And that hot. Yeah. Yeah. Speaking of stalkers and thrilling, chilling, chilling,
Starting point is 00:56:55 amazing things. Yes. I saw one of the signs on a bus stop in L.A. on social media. It's blacked out sign that says, I will not be ignored, Dan. Whoa. Which is a quote from Fatal Attraction because the Fatal Attraction show on Paramount starts at the end of this month. Oh, it does start.
Starting point is 00:57:23 That's exactly. The 30th. Yeah. you watch the original yet? That's another one I need to watch. I'm going to watch it when you watch it. I'll tell you. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:34 I mean, I could recite the movie. I love it so much, but I just, that's a line from the movie. So the fact that they're like taking it from the movie into the show, I'm just so fucking pumped. I can't wait. That's amazing. And I'm hoping for some male nudity with Joshua Jackson.
Starting point is 00:57:52 Yeah, which network is it on? Paramount Plus. I don't know. I don't know what their nudity. I don't think that you could remake this. I don't think that you could remake that story without nudity. That's true.
Starting point is 00:58:09 Or violence or swearing. Well, yeah, definitely that. Like, no one's going to be like, oh, darn it, you had an affair with this fucking psycho. Oh, my God. Oh, I guess they wouldn't say that. there were they would say oh darn it you had an affair with this friggin psycho I grew up around people that said P-O'd instead of pissed off so like that's what I'm imagining when you're like
Starting point is 00:58:40 darn it you were having an affair I'm P-Oed what was that book we were talking about there was a book I remember that book I wanted to read and it was like a romantic suspense about a serial killer and I was super pumped for it And then it was like, yeah, it's like wholesome Christian suspense. Oh,
Starting point is 00:59:00 no. I do remember that one. Yeah. It was the purpley cover one. That's the one. Oh, it was. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:59:06 I looked it up on Amazon and I said it was like, wholesome Christian suspense. And I was like, could you imagine hunting I'm a serial killer and being like, oh, shoot,
Starting point is 00:59:12 I think I see him. Yes. No. I get that there's people out there who do not want violence, sex and swearing. I totally get it. And their stories.
Starting point is 00:59:22 I understand that. That is good for you. obviously if you're that kind of person you're probably not listening to this podcast by now but um that's not me that's not me i crack a joke when i start something on tv and it like the warnings come up where it's like adult language sex nudity violence da da da da da and i'm like all the good things yes all the good things that make a good one yeah yeah swarm has a very intense sex scene in the first episode. And I'm going to tell you what, if I had a fan, it would have been just like, cool me down. I was like, oh my goodness. Oh, my goodness. I have to watch this. Yeah. Yeah. I think
Starting point is 01:00:13 you're going to really, I've noticed that the steam in Insecure is getting more intense as the show goes on. It does. Especially like if you, are you in like season two? No, I'm still in season one. Okay, then yeah, you don't even know what you're about to be in for. I can't wait. Yeah, they go there. Well, the scene with
Starting point is 01:00:37 Would you like some breakfast? Right, right. I was like, oh my God, I did not see that coming. And then there was another, oh, there was the one where Issa is in the recording studio. Oh, my gosh, that one is. And I was like, okay. dokey. And then it's like making me laugh.
Starting point is 01:00:56 Amazing. It's just so good. I just fucking love that show so much. It's hot. It was very hot, dude. Yeah. Yeah. Did you see the Barbie release? Issa Ray is in the Barbie movie. And somehow I did not know that. Duolipa's in it too. That's what I found out too.
Starting point is 01:01:19 Mermaid Barbie Duolipa. I was like, I have to see this. Yeah. It made me think, okay, I'm probably going to see this movie. Yeah. I didn't know what it could be like, but we'll see. I mean, I love Margo. Well, you know my, this is going to get so ridiculous. You know my pins, right?
Starting point is 01:01:41 The guy that I like, he turns female characters from horror movies into Barbie. Barbie pins. They're like all the women from Halloween. I love it. And I have a ton of them. I just have to put them away. But yeah, I just love that he does that. So maybe he'll do a Margot Robbie one.
Starting point is 01:02:09 That would be awesome. I mean, it's not a horror movie, so I doubt he will. But fingers crossed. I don't think there will be anything scary. I don't know. I want Margo Robbie to be in a good horror movie thriller. I think she'd be great. She'd be fantastic
Starting point is 01:02:27 Did you ever watch for some reason That made me think of That movie that Jennifer Lawrence did, mother No, I did not watch it I've like heard that it's so messed up In a way that seems to really like Fuck with a lot of people
Starting point is 01:02:45 But I've never seen it Um Somebody told me some Performance is amazing Yes Somebody told me a scene in that movie and I was like, no, I cannot watch that. I think I kind of know what the finale is like and it sounds pretty terrible.
Starting point is 01:03:02 The baby. Apparently she was having panic attacks on set. So like, yeah, yeah. She didn't have a great experience is what we've now found out. I just don't do. I like, I like thriller mystery horror like. Yes. Because this was like, it sounds like this would be like literary.
Starting point is 01:03:24 almost because it has some really deep religious significance. Yes. The only one that I really liked that, that's like that, is hereditary. Mm-hmm. Because Tony Collette, I don't give a shit what she's in. I'll watch it. Right. And her performance in that movie is fantastic.
Starting point is 01:03:44 It's so good. Yeah. I don't really want to watch The Barbarian again. You have been wanting that. I know. I know. And the weird thing is, is that, like, emotionally, I wasn't there this weekend, this past weekend, to, like, watch it. And I was like, I really want to rewatch it.
Starting point is 01:04:01 But then I was like, it is rather disturbing. And I don't think that I'm, like, in a good headspace for it. But this weekend, I'm a bad bitch. So I might do it this weekend. I love that. Like, oh, yeah. Okay, I'm watching Storm this weekend. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:04:18 Please start it. The episodes are only a half hour. Yeah. then I think I should I think that you could start it during the week I'll kind of
Starting point is 01:04:30 I think tomorrow dreaming of the beehive yeah I think tomorrow night he's like driving me nuts I think tomorrow night I'll be able to oh my God
Starting point is 01:04:47 this is great it's not even when you freeze that makes me laugh. It's like when you're like, fucking A or like, oh my God. Like, it's your reaction that always like cracks me up. Yeah, I think you should, I think you'll, I think you'll fly through it. I think you'll fly through it. Like, I'll probably wrap it up this weekend, like Friday maybe.
Starting point is 01:05:11 I've just been, I have a friend on Instagram, her name's Shelly. And she's a lot like me where she has like horror movies that are like her comfort watches and she'll rewatch things and stuff. So we've been like rewatching things and kind of like discussing them almost like having like theories and stuff. Um, like Black Christmas I have like one of the biggest theories about. And I guess it doesn't make sense unless you watch the movie.
Starting point is 01:05:44 But like with her, I was, she was like, now I want to watch it again. So I've been like thinking about some movies. When you like talk about it. Oh my God. I know. I know. I'm just so surprised. There's a show on Hulu. I think it's, I don't know what it's called,
Starting point is 01:06:07 but it's like a true crime docu series, but like each episode has to do with like the internet. Like people who meet somebody on the internet or like young teenage girls who think they're like dating like a 17 year old guy and it's like a 50 year old like psychopath. Yeah. I can't get enough of that either. Internet, true crime stories, I'm fascinated with right now.
Starting point is 01:06:35 Did you watch last year the Tinder, what was that, Tinder swindler? Yeah, yeah. You're fucking right, I did. We loved that. That was such a good documentary. That's true crime. I know, that's what I was just dawning on me. Sometimes I like it when it is in a more like documentary form.
Starting point is 01:06:53 Yeah, yeah. Wild Country, I think, is. technically true crime and I really liked that. There's one. I am gonna sound like an asshole for saying this and I don't mean it in like a bad way. But there's one documentary
Starting point is 01:07:08 on Netflix that when I was watching it I was like this would have been an excellent book. Oh, stupid. Is it the girl in the picture? Maybe. I don't see that. I think it's the girl in the picture.
Starting point is 01:07:31 You should watch it. I'm adding it. My IMDB. Yeah. You use IMDB like Goodreads? No. Okay. I use IMDB because I
Starting point is 01:07:50 like to read the trivia section after I watch a movie. Are you okay? There's blood on my hand, which means my nose is a little bit bloody. That's what just happens. It's not a lot. it better not be I don't even know what you were that was wild
Starting point is 01:08:13 I don't even know what I was saying I didn't think one of us was going to start bleeding on the picture oh no trivia you look at trivia you look at the trivia yeah IMDB that's my like
Starting point is 01:08:26 you say you're on the picture I think so okay I'm adding it because I use like the watch list on there like good reads that's why I was asking. Unsolved mysteries is really good too on Netflix. Those are like all over though, like all over the place.
Starting point is 01:08:44 There's just so many. There's another one. John Grisham. As in the author? Yeah. It's the true crime book that he wrote. They turned it into a Netflix documentary. Yeah, you'll love that. I bet I will. Fucking right.
Starting point is 01:09:05 my thing is is I like to watch a movie or a show and then I when I'm done it I like to watch or read the trivia Oh yeah We do that too
Starting point is 01:09:19 That's just the best That's just like the like Nice little like thing to like finish everything off Shout out to the people The Innocent man The Innocent man The Innocent man
Starting point is 01:09:33 The Inest Man is the name of the show and it's, oh, it's six episodes but it's on Netflix and it's fan fucking tastic. Can I find it? There it is. I got it. Yeah. You'll love it.
Starting point is 01:09:52 Nice. It's kind of like a true crime version of Blackbird. Ooh. Well, that sounds really good. Yeah. Yeah. You'll like it. You'll like that one.
Starting point is 01:10:07 I do like true crime because I like to kind of think of my own theories. I do understand that because that's how I feel when I watch some documentaries. I like to have my own theories. I do have, like, I'm not like, that was fantastic or I don't know, not fantastic, but, like, I'm not, like, enjoying it as much because it's, it's something that happened to somebody in real life and it, you know, affected real people. But I get a very large euphoric satisfaction when somebody who is, like, responsible for a horrible crime is caught and convicted. Definitely. When families get justice in knowing the what, the why, the how, and all of that stuff. Yes.
Starting point is 01:11:02 There's that asshole truck. Wow. The creepy one that keeps driving by with a loud muffler. That's my stalker. It probably is. You're right. Oh, my God. TikTok. Also, I haven't talked about it on here.
Starting point is 01:11:24 Bad Sisters on Apple Tee. Oh, yes. It's so good. I posted about it, but I don't think I've talked about it here. It was amazing. It was like an Irish big little lies, but with its own little twist, too. Well, multiple twists. It was so good.
Starting point is 01:11:44 And you flash back and forth, like, all throughout. Okay. You're going like three months before and present. It is so good. Hmm. I have a book recommendation. Ooh, nice. The new Geneva Rose.
Starting point is 01:12:04 You shouldn't have come here? I really liked it. Oh, that's awesome. I'm glad to hear that. I'm just like. Between the perfect marriage, what was the second one? One of us is dead. One of us is dead.
Starting point is 01:12:20 And this one, they're all so different that I'm like, oh my God, I'm just completely blown away. Yeah. She has very distinct stories. Yes. And I mean, this one takes place on like Wyoming in the middle of nowhere, like one house. And it's just very, very fantastic. I really liked it. I'm excited for it.
Starting point is 01:12:44 Has it come out like July? Is it like summer? No, it's like August 20 or April 25th. Oh, that's even better. It's this month. Yeah. I don't have a, I don't have a copy. We'll be working on that now, won't we? Yeah, you'll really like it, I think.
Starting point is 01:13:07 That's new. That's exciting. Yeah, it's really good. It's really good. I really enjoyed it. just fantastic and I loved the ending. That's even better. Yeah. It's a little bit slower paced in the sense of it has this very like,
Starting point is 01:13:29 eerie aspect to it where there's like a dark cloud over the entire story and you're like, I know something is off. I just don't know what it is yet. And she kind of gives you these little like nuggets of information like along the way and you're like, what the fuck does that mean? And And then she's like, you'll find out in a little bit, bitch. Oh, my gosh. That sounds like, you don't think of the name right now? Samantha Downey. It sounds like her books.
Starting point is 01:13:58 Oh, my God. I am dying for the new Samantha Downing book. Like, a lot of people are loving it. I want to sell a kidney on the black market for like an advanced copy of it. Same. Like, I will put out. For it. Right.
Starting point is 01:14:20 I know everyone's loving it. I'm like, I need it now. I want it really bad. We're just going to put it out into the universe, so. Samantha Downing, hopefully you hear us. Send me a carrier pigeon with a little net galley link. Yeah. We'll talk about it.
Starting point is 01:14:45 I'd probably never shut up about it. It's about a toxic relationship. Like, that is my... The title literally says it. Yeah. I think that's like... Like, I love a serial killer thriller because I love to guess what's going to happen. Like, between when I started reading and now, we've never had...
Starting point is 01:15:10 I've only had one book that I've read where it was a stereotype of a serial killer. where it was like the creepy trucker. Yeah. I've never had one where it's like a janitor or like the guy who's like creepy and like stereotypical. Like I've never had that. So like whenever I read a serial killer book, I'm like, okay, if this guy's hot or if he's just like is like a family man or whatever the case may be, I'm always like very suspicious. So I love those. but I think that domestic thrillers and domestic of those people more in serial killer thrillers.
Starting point is 01:15:51 Yeah, because there's not a serial killer book that's going to be coming out at this rate in 2023 that's going to be a janitor or a trucker or something stereotypical that you would like expect. So that's why like I love like serial killer. Just the whole aspect of like why they do it. Why what their victims have in common or you know, whatever the case may be. as much as I love them, I think that domestic thrillers and suspense are what terrify me the most. Because there's always a psychological... Typically close to home.
Starting point is 01:16:27 Well, there's always a psychological aspect to it, right? But it's also, like, scary that it's either your spouse or your boyfriend or your girlfriend or a family member or your best. friend that can turn into a fucking psychopath and like just completely shatter your entire life and possibly murder somebody. Yeah. Like it's always somebody that you trust, right? Mm-hmm. That scares the shit out of me.
Starting point is 01:17:00 It is scary. I remember thinking that when I first started reading. There's like thrillers in general. Yeah. I feel like, I'm not to sneeze. I remember being like, wait a second. do I need to be paranoid about everyone in my life? And I was like, okay, no, I just enjoy this story.
Starting point is 01:17:20 But that's why it's so freaky. Well, at least you had that thought in the beginning because I was always the person that was like, I don't need to be paranoid about anybody in my life. And that was wrong. Yeah, well, I learned it early. That was wrong about that one. Real early. Oh.
Starting point is 01:17:43 it's not just going to go there but that's the petty podcast that'll be our next podcast when we do this whole part yeah yeah so that's what I want
Starting point is 01:18:01 I just go watch all the movies I know I need to finish accused and swarm and then I can start Night Agent I think you will like it but I'll be interested to know. You never know.
Starting point is 01:18:15 Nope. He just doesn't like it or I'll be like, yep, he does like the version, this version, the use version. Yeah. Well, next week we'll find out.
Starting point is 01:18:25 Yeah. So we'll see you then.
