Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey guys, welcome to the Killing the Tea podcast. This is Gare and Kate. And we are going to be discussing all things, chills, thrills and kills. Kate and I are going to be talking about our favorite books, TV shows and movies that are in the thriller or crime fiction genre, as well as some reading habits and other items related to how we met on Bookstagram that will fit in with this podcast. So, Thank you so much for joining us, and we hope that you have fun and get totally terrified. My other show was, um, you. Just to dive right back in, um, which I loved all of the books. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:46 By Carolyn Kepness. I love the show. I'm very excited for season four. Um, that is a show that I think could go on forever, like Dexter vibes. Um, because honestly, like, mom. close your ears, close your eyes, skip over this part, but like, Dexter and Joe could both get it. I know. At the same time, if they wanted to. I mean, a little serial killer threesome.
Starting point is 00:01:14 Oh my gosh. I do not care. I, like, have never, like, Joe's a little bit more toxic, which is, like, my normal vibe. He's more, like, emotionally, like, tedious. But Joe, like, I would just be like, oh, my God, like, you're obsessed with me. tell me why. You're obsessed with me? How long have you been obsessive of me? What all do you know? Yeah. Tell me everything you love about me. Um, whereas like Dexter, I'm just like, keep doing your thing, buddy. Like, all you're doing is getting rid of like serial killers and rapists that got away with that. You know, you're just the Batman showtime. I know. I'm such a fan of an anti-hero. Not to sound like a
Starting point is 00:01:55 Swifty fan right now. But the like the kind of common, it's not even a trope because it doesn't show up too much, but trope is a good enough word for it of like, I have these violent urges, but I learned how to make them good by taking out worse people. It's so fun as a storyline. I just love that storyline so much. I do love a vigilante too. Yeah. Yes. There was something you were talking about earlier. Oh, the book you're reading, The Nest of Snakes. When you said, like, he goes after people, I was about to be like, that's some vigilante shit. Well, because I love vigilantes in crime fiction, anything. I also love vigilantes and, like, a book aspect, too, because one of my favorite things is, like, how to catch a predator.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Yes. there's something very satisfying about people being like lured into a trap and being caught doing doing shitty things and going away for it yes yeah definitely that so i need the joe gold birds and the dexter morgans and you know what i don't care how many there are i don't care if like one day i grow up and like milly bobby brown is playing batman like i will devour the shit out of a batman movie at any point. Yes. The newest one was so good. Yeah, we love. It was so stylistically different. Oh, I know. It was moody and angsty. I know. I want more, but I do love a bad man. I love a vigilante. I love, I love, love a vigilante. I love, toxic men and vigilantes. I know.
Starting point is 00:03:42 Find me up. So it's all I got a fine for you, for you to be happy. Um, somewhat of a vigilantee. And this one's sci-fi. So I'm going to. I'm not even, well, is it sci-fi? Yeah, it is sci-fi. Mr. Robot on USA. So phenomenal. Did you watch it? I did not watch it, but it's on. Maybe you did. It's on my list of things that I want to watch. And I've heard incredible things about it. It would be, it's, it's a psychological thriller. But he's a coder. And that's what makes it feel like it's sci-fi. But really, it's about, like trying to figure out what's going on in his mind. He's a frigging adorable too.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Oh my gosh. I love him. He's so cute. Why can't I think of what the Freddie Mercury movie was, what was it called? The one that just came out recently. Yeah. He was amazing in that.
Starting point is 00:04:41 We were like crying in the theaters. Yeah. I didn't watch it. Was it called Bohemian Rhapsody? Maybe. I think it was. Okay. I know his name's,
Starting point is 00:04:51 I know his name's Remy Matt. Malick. Yes. That's what I was thinking you were going to say like what's his name and not the name of the movie. So like I was like really excited to be like, Rameenalick. But you're like, what's that? Freddie Mercury movie? It is called Bohemian Rhapsody. That's what that's the best biopic we've ever seen. So thrown in a little movie recommendation. It's powerful. Yeah, I need to watch that show. I need to watch that show. I've heard that. Very good. No, I've heard that like it's one of those shows that like there's no filler episodes and like no season where they're like, oh, you know, we're making money off this. Let's just like do whatever. Like I've heard that it's very good. Nothing is wasted. And oh my gosh, that's a great face. Um, nothing. No time is wasted on that show. And there it's so cinematic through so many of the seasons. But in the final season, the cinematography is just like out of this world. And there are so many massively suspenseful scenes that just drag out and are so cinematic and amazing.
Starting point is 00:06:03 It's one of my favorite shows of all time. I'm going to be, even though I turn this on, do not disturb. I'm going to put it on my list. Yeah. It's so good. I'm going to put it in between stranger things and the real house size of Miami because I need to catch up on. that. I know. I still haven't watched Miami or Dubai. Dubai's kind of boring. I've never heard. I haven't seen anybody tell me that I'm. That's true. I'm not seeing anything about it. I'm not
Starting point is 00:06:34 having anybody tell me like, oh, you're missing out if you're not watching Dubai. So I'll wait to see how the second season is. I did have on my list the killing, which I feel like I don't really need to talk about at this point because we've talked about it with. But if you're one of those people who want something that has a setting that is very reminiscent of crime fiction books that you probably love. The killing takes place in Seattle. It's amazing. The cinematography is fantastic. The first two seasons deal with a girl who's gone missing and she is found in the trunk of a car that has been submerged in a lake that is tied to a mayoral campaign. Those are the first two seasons.
Starting point is 00:07:28 After that, three and four are separate cases. But I loved how that show is done, like you said, with Mr. Robot, it's very stylish. I love the cinematography. I love the two main detectives in it. So yeah, I love that. And I love the chestnut man, which makes sense because the U.S. show is based on, it's a remake. It's basically an American remake. Yeah. Similar to that as well. I love that we can bounce this. I know. You said two detectives that you loved. Amazing scenery. This one's different scenery, but definitely beautiful. Broad Church is what is it? It's some, it's the BBC, but it's on Netflix. And the main detectives are David Tennant and Olivia Coleman, who are amazing and they're so good together too, but like really extremely dark mysteries, like police cases. But it takes place in this beautiful like mountain coastal setting in
Starting point is 00:08:47 UK. It's so beautiful. Like the whole show's beautiful. The characters are awesome and like there are massive twists. I think there's only two seasons, but there are a huge twist in both of them. Sold. You know what's funny is I feel like I've heard people be like, oh my God, broad church and I immediately think of something religious because it has church and it. Yeah. So I'm like, not for me. And you're the first person that's like, no. I avoided it for a while for this. This is crime fiction, idiot. Like watch it, Garrett. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. And it's like it's small town. Everyone, no one wants to believe that it could be someone there. It's got to be someone from the outside. But I love that vibe too. It might be you guys though. Yeah. It's great. It's so good. That was the word I fell in love with Olivia Coleman too. I just love her. She can act her ass off. Yes, she can. Yeah, she can. What did I watch her in that I really loved? She's in the crown as well, recently. No, no, thank you.
Starting point is 00:09:49 I know. It's so slow. Historical. There's a movie she's in. She's in a movie that was, I believe, based off a book. I can't remember. Lost daughter. I watched that recently. With Dakota Johnson. Yes.
Starting point is 00:10:08 I loved her performance in that. Me too. I actually loved both of them. Oh, what? I kind of like Dakota because. she had my vibe going on. I fucking love Dakota Johnson. I feel like she can do no wrong.
Starting point is 00:10:26 And I think that she's hilarious. I love her. She's amazing. I love Dakota Johnson. Okay, Broadchurch. Sign me up. I'm just going to follow up with that with my own little British beauty.
Starting point is 00:10:45 I love British shows. Idriselba Luther fucking Luther Luther Luther is the bomb oh my God I forgot about that
Starting point is 00:10:58 good so so good so good I'm obsessed with Luther it is one of my favorite shows I
Starting point is 00:11:08 oh good binged it last last year maybe two years ago I was like I don't know like what's going on
Starting point is 00:11:17 here, but then I'm like, okay, it's Idris Alba. Is it Idris or Idris? I think it's Idris. That's a great question. I bet it's Idris. I think it's Idris. I'll just call him husband because, Luther,
Starting point is 00:11:30 my God. He is sexy. I just, I love his character, but I also like Idris Elba can do no wrong. You know, like, he's amazing. It's just so dark, and it's so procedural and there's so many like amazing
Starting point is 00:11:49 cases. Ruth Wilson is a badass. That's what I was just about to say. I love her and that was the first time I saw her in something. That was the second time I saw her in something because I watched the affair before I watched this. That's what I was going to bring up next. I was like, oh my gosh, Ruth Wilson, I can bounce another one off. Okay, everybody just watched Luther.
Starting point is 00:12:09 We're moving on. Yeah. The affair is so good. Gritty, gritty police procedural basically. Yeah. with a sexy lead actor. Just drooling over here. And like, oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:12:25 He's so tough. I feel like I just feel so safe. I'd be like, I am safe. Right here. I just am like, you know, there's a lot of things in the world that can give you anxiety. And there's a lot of, like, horrible things that happen in the world that can give you anxiety. But I just feel like,
Starting point is 00:12:46 Would I survive as a police officer or a detective's husband? Would I survive? No, I'd be anxious all the time. But Luther, I'd be like, okay, listen, like, I trust. I'm comfortable in knowing that you're coming home safe. Yeah. Because everyone should be afraid of you. So like, I will be here reading my book and you come home and tell me, you know, what case you solved.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Yeah, just come home and tell me about your day. I'll order some Chinese food because I feel like having Chinese food with Idrisalva would be like a dream date that sounds amazing now I want Chinese food I do too I've been craving it for like three days I'm just gonna weave it any conversation I can have
Starting point is 00:13:30 oh my gosh I need to make some tomorrow or something oh my God so good all right yeah so Bruce Wilson though the affair the affair HBO again like
Starting point is 00:13:43 the main things I remember about it are it's one of those cool shows kind of like how to get away with murder where you start off with a bat-shit crazy scene at the beginning of the season and then you flash back months or weeks before and then slowly figure out how it went from something to something totally different and out of control and it there's like there's an author as one of the main characters and he's just like your moody, angsty author who goes to a cabin to finish his book. So if you like that
Starting point is 00:14:22 vibe, there's that. But so many twists, like twists, on twist, on twist, on twists. And the setting, where is it? Is it the Hamptons? It's not, no, Montauk. Yeah. Beautiful. Incredible. Incredible show. One of
Starting point is 00:14:40 the things that I love about that show is they give you different characters. perspectives as well. That's the other thing. Yes. I loved how they did that, but I also something that I really, really enjoy about that show.
Starting point is 00:14:59 How do I say this without the reading of spoiler? It's called the affair. Okay. Like, an affair happens. I think you figured that out in the first episode. The thing that I really enjoyed is that there's two characters that have an affair. They each have a significant other. I liked how they wrote the show so that the significant others were also likable. Yeah, I agree. So you could really ride that wave or like ride the fence or whatever the
Starting point is 00:15:28 frigging term is about like, yeah, like you like the two people together that are having the affair, but like you also like them with their spouses as well. Yeah. Because everybody in that show is like I loved them all. I know. And they're all hot, like Mara Tierney. Oh, my God. She's beautiful. Mm-hmm. But I also loved her character.
Starting point is 00:15:55 I know. Because she wasn't that like, she wasn't that stereotypical meek housewife who's like husband's having an affair. And she's like, what I do wrong? Like da-da-da. She's like literally the woman that's going to like castrate him if she finds out. Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:16:11 And she was just that she had her own messes as well. Yeah. That's like the other part where she also wasn't just like, I'm the perfect wife. How could you do this to me? And you really do. You just like the whole series long, it's, I think it's every episode, but I can't remember. Do you switch perspectives every episode like until the finale?
Starting point is 00:16:33 It's definitely in one of the seasons, there was a stretch where you were shifting every episode. And so then you get like really drawn in. You're like, you know what? This person's right. Like I'm on this person's side. And then you like start the next episode. And you're like, shit, I'm on this person's side.
Starting point is 00:16:51 Yeah. Yeah. So I think the thing that they did really well with that is when the show starts off, they give you the perspective of the man having the affair and then the woman having the affair. And you see the contrast into how they would kind of tell the story. You know, like with her, it's like he was very like flirtatious and didn't care. With him, it was like she was like the flirty, you know, like kind of like, oh, that me like fix my panty hose like in my little waitress uniform. Yeah, like, let me pick up my pen.
Starting point is 00:17:21 And, but like, I loved how they did that. But also, as the show goes on, you get the viewpoints from her husband and his wife as well. So like, I think it was like switching back and forth with four characters at some point in this year. I never finished it, though. I'm behind a whole season. I watched it a very long time ago. But now that we're talking about it. I'm like, that was one of the best TV shows I watched. Yeah. It's definitely going to be rewatched someday. I was just going to say that's definitely something that I would rewatch. I know, because it's my favorite kind of books when that
Starting point is 00:17:56 happens too. I've always wanted to read a book where you shift perspectives and the story's a little bit different, but kind of the same. So, yeah, I just love that kind of storytelling. Well, I know what book you can read that's like that. Yeah. The woman inside, E.G. Scott. Oh my gosh, how perfect is that then? It's so good.
Starting point is 00:18:19 It's so good. Yeah, that's definitely one of those books that would be reminiscent of the affair. Okay. But there's murder in it. Well, I guess there's murder in the affair, too. Mm-hmm. So, yeah, there's murder. There's murder.
Starting point is 00:18:35 There's some reason that did you ever watch The Office? No. Okay. They never mind. I don't like comedies. I like murder. I know. Tyler likes kind of.
Starting point is 00:18:44 comedies and he used to need the TV on to fall asleep. So the office would be on all the time. But I can dabble in a comedy. I did love Schitt's Creek. My friend, my, my, my, my Tyler, my best friend Tyler made me watch Shitt's Creek. I loved it. I feel like, yes, I could see how you would love that. I loved it. We both loved it. I think the thing that, like, gave me a lot of, like, the thing that, like, I take away from that show, though, is a lot of people, like, when it became popular, a lot of people that know me, were like, you kind of remind me of David. And how do you feel about that? Compliment.
Starting point is 00:19:21 I mean, it's right. Like, sometimes I can be a little neurotic. I was making sure I have a dry sense of humor. And I also like, you will, I mean, occasionally. Yeah. I don't disagree. You will find me being like, what the fuck? You know, like, I took it as a compliment because I was like,
Starting point is 00:19:40 I guess it's better to have somebody tell you like, oh, you remind me of this TV character that like most people like than to have somebody be like you remind me of like serena from the handma's tale you're like maybe are you caught up on the handmade's tail no i'm not you're not i caught up last night it's so good but i will say serena is one of those people that um infuriates me because there are sometimes that I find her likable and I have to kind of remind myself that I shouldn't. Yeah, it reminds me of it is what happens with someone as narcissistic as her
Starting point is 00:20:25 is there are those little moments and you're like, oh, you really are a person. And then like five minutes later, they do something atrocious and you're like, okay, I'm not riding this roller coaster anymore. Yeah. Speaking of Speaking of
Starting point is 00:20:45 watching somewhat bad people do bad things and still finding them likable and also one of my favorite shows, if not my favorite, oh, no, sorry, euphoria. Other than euphoria, this is my favorite show. Nip Tuck.
Starting point is 00:21:06 I never watched that one. I just, He almost watched it so many times and then never started it. First season is going to be rough. It's obviously a 20-year-old show at this point. Right, right. So first season is going to be a little rough. I think the rest of it would hold up.
Starting point is 00:21:24 But like the plot, there's always like a big baddie in the season, right? And then like you also dive into these two doctors and their personal lives. And it's Ryan Murphy, you know, like at his peak, in my opinion. Oh, I forgot that. That's Ryan Murphy too. Yeah. Yeah. So it's got that little like edge to it.
Starting point is 00:21:46 There's like a lot of like sex and violence. Um, and one of the seasons there is a serial killer. Oh. But the thing that I think you will enjoy about this show is you notice as you're watching it. The seasons are short. So. Oh.
Starting point is 00:22:06 So you even the seasons are short or it's a shorter season. And it's addictive. But as you watch. it you'll notice in its popularity because the guest stars like get really like cool you know like um rose mcgowan plays in it and i loved her character arc um but yeah there's just it's it's really good of weeds weeds was like that like you could see the guest stars because yeah modern family julie was on in weeds later on yeah yeah you don't you don't Definitely. Yeah, it's just, nip talk is one of my favorite shows in the entire world. And it's
Starting point is 00:22:47 definitely on my list to watch again because I kind of, I think I did that thing where I got really, really into it. Season three, I believe is the serial killer season. And everybody was like talking about it. And they were just like, oh, my God, this is so good. Who do you think it is? What do you think is happening? What do you think is going to happen? And then I just was like, all right, I'm diving in. I'm diving in. And I just like binge it. And then I watched the show as it aired after that. So I've never like binged it. But I want to. I want to. That's what Breaking Bad was like for me because we watched the first four seasons as the fifth one was airing and then watch the finale live, which is another one of my faves. But we definitely talked about that before. But everyone knows
Starting point is 00:23:38 Breaking Bad is great. Except for me because I will walk straight out. But you know, but you know. I know it's, I know it's probably incredible. Yeah, like everyone. Isn't the setting like a desert? Yes. It is, it's something like Phoenix.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Albuquerque, I don't know. It's Arizona. That's probably why. Dust and heat do not excite me to watch TV show, but I will watch it. They do spend a lot of time underground in like a basement. So that part's dark and cool. Just the way we like it. I wish I had a basement.
Starting point is 00:24:16 I would literally not leave it very often. Well, I need you to watch Snapchat. I will. If you started it, if you started it, I would binge watch it with you. I will let you know. I would not be going over to your living room to like watch it with you and Tyler, unfortunately, because that would be very expensive for us to watch a show together. But I don't know, though, if we started doing Taco Tuesdays and like following up in NipT, could you imagine?
Starting point is 00:24:46 Yeah. Happiest family ever. Yeah, we're here. Right? Could you imagine? Yeah. It would be fun. I think you could handle it, but Tyler would be like.
Starting point is 00:24:59 You're actually. This is a little crazy. Kind of wrong in that technically I would eventually get tapped out socially and he wouldn't. you'd be like, we have a friend. He's here. But also, you know how to deal with me. And like, you know that, like, I could probably find a way to be annoying to everybody in the household. And when you start nip-tuck, Christian Troy is the sexiest, most toxic man on TV. And I started watching this show and hype. school and I swear to God, this is what set me up for the failure known as my taste in
Starting point is 00:25:46 men. Like, yeah, he's hot. If they combined shows, you could literally have, like, it would not come as a surprise to me if Christian Troy was the man who raised Nate Jacobs in Euphoria. It would not surprise me whatsoever. It makes sense. Why those are your two favorite then? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:07 It's so good. I mean, it's such a good show, but like, he does really horrible. I mean, this is not like, there's no redemption for a lot of these characters. They're just horrible people that do horrible things and it keeps you entertained. And he's just, he's an asshole. But he's just one of the most entertaining, he's hot and he's very entertaining. Like, it's just, yeah. So Christian Troy explains a lot.
Starting point is 00:26:32 So when you watch it, I guarantee, I mean, about a half hour into it, you're going to send me a and be like, make sense. I get it. I get it now. Let's go back in time. Let's go back in time. Yeah. Yeah. He's just so. Yep, that would be my favorite show other than Neuforia. Another one of my, can you hear Bruce in the background? Should I wait? No, I can't hear him. Okay. Awesome. So another one of my favorites of all time. This one's definitely. sci-fi is called Orphan Black. Another one that was on
Starting point is 00:27:13 BBC, I think. It's definitely British. Tadiana Monsani, I don't know if you know that actress, but she is one, she's beautiful. gorgeous. She plays
Starting point is 00:27:28 seven, six characters. She plays six very distinct characters. It's some of the most impressive performances I've ever seen because they all feel so different and they're all her. Extremely fast-paced. It's like a sci-fi action thriller where there's like genetic testing going on, thus the fact that she has like six clones.
Starting point is 00:28:01 So it opens with like a police, like a woman who's a detective. like seeing a report for someone who looks exactly like her. And she's like, what? And so then the story evolves from there as she tries to figure out what's going on. I've heard incredible things about that show, specifically her performance. She's amazing. I'm such a fan girl. I love her. I, um, Tyler even watched that whole show. I've heard really good things about it. It could definitely be a on my list in the future. It's so long right now. I definitely
Starting point is 00:28:41 like when I'm feeling like something like different. Yeah. But I also like I don't, I feel like sometimes like even if a show, not that I'm saying like I obviously haven't watched it, but like even if a show or a movie is like not my vibe, I can get really
Starting point is 00:28:57 into watching somebody act their ass off. Yes. And it's not too heavy on the sci-fi. It is more like you're reading like a thriller that has clones than it. Right, right. And it kind of reminds me, like, one of my favorite performances in the entire world is the queen, Tony Collette. She was in this show called The United States of Tara. Okay, I haven't seen that. And she was a woman that had multiple personalities. That's what I knew I had heard about it, but I never watched it. Bree Larson's in it. And like, she plays, like, her daughter.
Starting point is 00:29:31 Wow. Okay. But it's just like one of the best performances ever because they're so. distinct and they're so obviously like very different like one of them's like a redneck and like Tony Collette doing it is just like she's so good she's so good so I yeah oh I need to watch that that sounds really good there's so much to watch so much to watch so much to watch and I I don't know I guess this isn't like you know what show I don't know if we've ever discussed how this is possible but But have you ever heard of somebody taking like the plot to something they were going to do and turning it into something completely different?
Starting point is 00:30:26 I mean, I'm sure I have at some point. My brain's not bringing it to the front. Plot twist. Oh, my gosh. Amazing. So do you have an example? I do because this is one of my favorite shows, but it's so hard to. explain why I find it to be so interesting.
Starting point is 00:30:47 I am a huge, huge Kevin Williamson fan. Like the Scream movies, I know what you did last summer, the Vampire Diaries, Dawson's Creek, like, he is just... Vampire Diaries. Yeah, yeah. Nice. He's just an amazing, amazing creator, right? Like, I love him.
Starting point is 00:31:09 And a lot of people talk shit about... the movie Screen 3 because it's like the one that he wasn't really involved with. Because Scream 3 actually had a different plot than the movie that they made. So in the movie Screen 3, originally his idea was having Matthew Lillard, who died in the first movie. He was one of the killers. The TV fell on his head. And it was going to be that he's been a lot of. this entire time and he's in prison, but he's the mastermind controlling all of these other crimes.
Starting point is 00:31:51 Like, I'm in prison, but I'm having people commit crimes for me. So that was the original plot to Scream 3. Unfortunately, Columbine happened, and they decided to scrap that idea, toned down on the violence, not have it really involved, like, high school students, like the first two dead, or young people, I should say. But the thing that I love is like, obviously we got Screen 3. People are like, okay, this is a lot different than the other movies in the franchise. Right. But there's a show called The Following with Kevin Bacon in it.
Starting point is 00:32:29 I love that show so much. And it is about a man who is in prison and he's having people commit his crimes for him, like a cult. So I love that show. The show's fantastic. It's so good. It's so good. The show is absolutely fantastic. But as I was watching it, there were like certain parts where I'm like, I wonder if this was going to be included, you know, or if, you know, I don't know if he ever wrote a script for Scream 3 with that, that idea. But I definitely love that in the following. He kind of took that idea that he had for Scream 3 and turned into something that was like, you know, police procedural, creepy, like, suspenseful. And I just have to give a show. terrifying TV that ever made it on a network TV in my opinion. I remember being pretty shocked. It was on network TV. A hundred percent. A hundred percent. That was how we felt. Like my brother-in-law was like, I can't watch this. I can't watch this. How do you watch this? I'm like, okay, you don't
Starting point is 00:33:27 have to. Yeah. Yeah. It's so good. It's so good. And it's just like one of those shows that like it's so character-driven. But like it's also like you said, like it's super scary. I, absolutely just love that show. I don't remember how many seasons there were. I think there were like four or five maybe, but it's Kevin Williamson just will scare the shit out of people and like not give a zero fucks about it and just be like, here, I'm going to scare the hell out of you. And guess what? The next movie, the next TV show, whatever like my name is on, you're going to come back and be scared again. And like, I don't care if you like it or not. that's exactly what it was like that was reminding me there was another show at the same time
Starting point is 00:34:17 that I watched the following that was so scary good yeah and it was my key what maggie cue is in it um I don't think so was it about police detectives who investigate stockings no but that sounds really good too Okay, never mind. I was really hoping. Kevin Williamson did a show with Maggie Q in it called Stalker. And it was only one season, but it was like right after the following. And it only dealt with like these police detectives and like Los Angeles investigating people being stalked. And some of the episodes were like the most terrifying things I've ever seen. So that's why I was like when I saw the wheels turning, I was like, could be on the same way. it's this. No, I don't know why I can't think of it. What was the show? Drive me nuts. Okay. So I want to see if I can guess that right now. Okay. So I should be able to think of the actress's name who's the lead in it. She's like a very attractive, very like regal blonde woman who's like maybe in her later 50s. And she's beautiful. And then who is the hot guy who's the serial killer? Like I love both of these.
Starting point is 00:35:35 Yes, the fall. That's who it is. Gillian Anderson and Jillian, yes. That's all I could think of. I couldn't think of her last night. Oh my God. So it's so weird that you say that because yeah, when you were talking about Broad Church and you mentioned BBC. Yes. I was like, I know I have to talk about Luther, but there's a part of me that wants to talk about the fall
Starting point is 00:36:02 because I started it. I did not finish it. but I started it and it was such a scary ass show that the reason I didn't finish it is because I was like, I work during the day. Yeah. I don't want to get fired from my job. So I can't watch the show during the day while I'm working. But if I watch it at night, it's going to cause me to have worse insomnia than I have already. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:29 It was so, that one was so good. I love that. So good. So good. I'll start it. I'll watch it again. I'm putting it on my list. it's only three seasons so it is a little bit shorter and he okay he is so hot who is that janey dornan
Starting point is 00:36:45 jamy doran that's who it is so you want to hear something weird he showed up on my tic-tok the other night and he was on like ellen and they were doing this like game where they had like these water balloons over him and they like kind of like play janga and the water balloons fall on him and he's like soaking wet But I was like, oh my God, he's so hot. And then I was like thinking about it. And I was like, he's hotter in the fall than he was in 50 shades of gray. Yeah, I agree. Okay.
Starting point is 00:37:22 Okay. So it's not just me. I know. I agree. I loved him in the fall. I don't like overly quaffed men. And he was very quaffed in shades of gray. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:35 Yeah. But they're like the facial hair and like the facial hair. and like the... Yes, that's what I'm talking about. The danger in his eyes. It was just like, oh, my God. Just gruffy hair. Like, oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:37:47 Yeah, yeah. I do remember, I'm not going to say it because it would be a spoiler. And I feel like, I feel like with like BBC shows, we do have to be careful because, like, those are kind of the things that,
Starting point is 00:37:58 like, if you watch them in America, it's like by word of mouth. But I do remember there being, like, one thing that was like super shocking and very sad in that show. Yes. Oh, yeah. And it's something that's one of my, my biggest fears. So if you, if anybody wants to, like, DM me, like, I'll tell you what it is, like, one of my biggest fears is, but, like, this is that show, like hits on it. And that's when I was like, I'm going to take a break from this. I've had moments like that. Also, when you're a woman, the week before your period, sometimes, like, stuff that does not bother you, you'll be watching it. And you're like, I am terrified. my heart is broken. I literally have to stop. Like sometimes I have the most intense reactions to stuff when I'm PMSing, which does not help at all.
Starting point is 00:38:47 I mean, nothing. Yeah. Oh, go ahead. Go for it. Because I'm about to change the subjects. Oh. I don't know what I was going to say. Well, I was going to say that the fall also reminded me of Hannibal. And I don't know if you ever watched that. That was, I remember loving it. And then when I watched cannibalism recently, I was really struggling with it. So I don't know if I could rewatch it now, but that was really good, too. Okay. Here's my thing with Hannibal. The Silence of the Lance is one of my favorite movies.
Starting point is 00:39:30 The Red Dragon was amazing. When they turned it into a TV show, I was very into it. but then they canceled it. Yeah. And people were like, how could you cancel this show on a cliffhanger knowing like blah, blah, blah, blah. So I don't know if I'm going to continue or restart animal because if it ends on a cliffhanger, that pisses me off.
Starting point is 00:39:56 Yeah. That's a really good point. But that show from what I watched of some of it was very good. I know we were watching it like live and we were like, this is amazing. It's kind of like a contrast too because I didn't get very far. I think I watched like maybe the half of the first season, if not the full first season. But the thing about that is it's very contrast because I think the thing is with the fall is it's very realistic for me in the way that it's like the cinematography is. Whereas like stuff like Hannibal and things like that, like it's like very glossy. You know what I mean? Like, Yeah, like it's like, oh, this like room is like well lit enough that you can see the person. But really dark too. In the fall, it's very much about angles and the things that are creepy are very creepy.
Starting point is 00:40:47 Like, yeah. Yeah, it was. That's a rough one. That's a rough one. They both are. They both are. My, I'm going to sneak one more in and then I need to let my dogs out. They're whining back there.
Starting point is 00:41:01 But shameless on showtime is, I don't even. know what you would call it. It is technically a family drama. It's not necessarily suspense, but there's like dark comedy. Dark comedy. Yeah, it's a dromedy. That's what it is. And you still do have that like 50 minute episode for the most part. It explores poverty, mental health problems, like all of the other problems you get. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. Sexuality is a big one. Explores so many things. I've cried watching that show so many times because of the way, like the performances from so many people on the cast are, it's just stunning. And they, um, I just, I don't even, it's hard to tell you like what actually happens in the show, but it's like kids of really poor parents who make
Starting point is 00:42:03 really poor decisions. Shitty parents. Kind of growing up, taking care of each other. Yeah, shitty parents. Very shitty parents. Very shitty parents. But it has so much heart.
Starting point is 00:42:14 I need to rewatch it because I never finished it. I think I think I have like one or two seasons, but I'm at the point now where I'm like, I don't know if I could just like pick up where I left off. So I would need to be watch it. You typically can for the most part. I don't know if I want to. I don't know if I want to.
Starting point is 00:42:32 I think I just want to start it over again. and then just watch it all the way through it. Just do it. But yes, I agree with you. I love that show. Yeah, it's very hard to talk about television without mentioning that show. I know.
Starting point is 00:42:45 So good. And I can't think of people's names tonight. I don't know what's happening to me. Lip? Lipp. Yes. Yes, you knew. You knew where I was headed with it.
Starting point is 00:43:01 Lipp is fine. And he was also really good in his show that came out this year called the something. Why can't I think of words tonight? Bear. The bear. You're just saving me. My God. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:21 He made cooking very, very, very. I want to watch that too. Jesus. It's a fast one because it's like 30 minute episodes. So I kind of put it on in the more two mornings in a row when I needed just like some easy stuff to watch in the morning. Okay, the bear. All right.
Starting point is 00:43:43 Yeah. Yeah. That's, Jesus. Like, can you see this list? How do you do this? I'll just send me a screenshot. Yeah, so those are all the shows that we love. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:01 At least some of them. Yeah. We will still talk about more, I'm sure. Yeah. But yeah, lip is the best. Actually, we talked about a lot of sexy men. Kevin. There was, there was a, oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:44:20 We look, like, they are our favorite storylines. Kevin and V. V? Yeah, V. Yeah, I love her. Oh, they're amazing. A lot of good, like, oh, my God, what's the same? There's so many good things about that show.
Starting point is 00:44:34 There's a guest. Taylor Kinney is a guest. on on shameless Taylor Kinney is in Chicago Fire he once dated Lady Gaga
Starting point is 00:44:50 and he was also the werewolf uncle in the vampire diaries so if there's any reason like Taylor Kinney yeah because he's gorgeous
Starting point is 00:45:03 he has some steamy scenes too yeah yeah he's a very gorgeous man We'll be re-watching shameless tonight. Well, the vampire diaries and shameless are two of the shows that I want to re-watch from the beginning. Yeah. Okay, so we're going to end it on this now. We're going to end it on this now.
Starting point is 00:45:24 Here's my gear tip of the night for Kate and everybody listening, if you're still listening. So HBO Max has the vampire diaries now, but I've heard that it's like remastered in a way that it looks like a newer show, like the color and everything, you know, like sometimes you watch like a, you watch an older show and you're like, oh, you can tell it's an older show. But I guess it's like, it's redone. Actually pre 4K. Yeah. Yeah. So I guess like the way that they redid it, people are like, oh my God, you would guess that this is a new show. So that's why I'm kind of excited to start the Vampire Diaries all over again. Hey, guys. I hope you enjoyed the episode.
