Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello and welcome to Punta Vista episode 311. Hello and welcome to Punta Vista episode 311. 311? Are you guys fans of 311? I was going to ask if anybody had a 311 joke? 311? No? No?
Starting point is 00:00:41 What was the song? What's the song? Down? I was reading this article like a year ago about how, like 311's still going, it's still got the same fans and they're like, the Dave Matthews ban that you can go to a concert. It's like three hours long. Yeah, you can go on, they have a yearly cruise. A 311. There's a 311. It's not like one of those, those like monsters of rock things where. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. their. th. their. th. their. their. their. th. their. their. their. th. th. th. their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. It's, 3. It's, 3. It's, 3. It's, 3. It's, 3. It's, 3. It's, 3. It's, 3. It's, 3. It's, 3. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's a th. It's like. It's like. It's like, th. It's like, th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th not like one of those those like monsters of rock things where it's a bunch of 60 year old hair metal bands and you go and watch them all it's just 311 and you go like the Weas are crews but it's the 311. Yeah and you go and you go and you see a 311 show every night and you hang out with the band and everybody compares their 311 tattos. Yeah. Wow. Not anymore, though. Because I'm Theo, I'm the captain of this seed ship, the Anola Gay as Hell, and then in brackets, complimentary.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Yes, within these enormous walls are the last remnants of humanity. Flea's threat after our home planet of earth was ravaged by an outbreak of Kessler syndrome, wherein Elon Musk, taken the shape of Casey Green's their, their, th..... their, their, their, their, their, th, the the Staling Fleet and trying to make them form the shape of Casey Green's dick butt, while drunk at a party, and attempting to impress Mary Elizabeth Winstead, which through a series of knock-on events, caused the ISS to smash into the CIA nuclear satellite, which in turn Korea into the population center of Zagreb, Croatia, causing the one thing humanity was not prepared for, Baltic nuclear war. Thus, I find myself here in the captain's seat, 27 extremely bitter and brutal years later.
Starting point is 00:02:13 Trying to flee the remaining forces of the Serbian people's front as we hop from star to star. Everybody is yelling but you just stop going the speed limit, but I value the safety of those on board. Americans go psycho. With me also, the the thi, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thus, thus, thus, thus, thus, thus, the thus, thus, the the thus, the thus, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the, I, I, I, I, I, I the the the their, I their, I their, I their, I their, I their, I their, I their, their, their, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, theat, theat, teat, teat, tea, thia, thia, thia, their, their, their, their, their, their, their the speed limit, but I value the safety of those on board. Americans go psycho. With me also, far in the bowels of the ship's engine room, shirt off sweating and pounding at the machinery, it's Andrew. Andrew, please put your shirt on. It's there's AC on in there.
Starting point is 00:02:39 It is 22 degrees in the engine room currently. I know, look at these nipples. Good Lord. It's just my little reward for myself the the the the th for myself th for myself th for myself th for myself th for myself th for myself th for myself th for myself th for myself the th for myself the room currently. I know, look at these nipples. Good Lord. It's just my little reward for myself at the end of my shift is I get to put my shirt back on and finally feel comfortable, you know? Oh, sort of like keep you on your grind. Yeah, and then everybody else finally gets to feel comfortable too. Yeah, they're like, oh, can't wait for this fucking shift to be over. Doing important work in the ship's bathroom on her phone,
Starting point is 00:03:06 posting on whatever the ship version of Next Door is, complaining on how we're gonna die, because this seed ship is actually manufactured by Boeing. It's Lucy. Hello, Lucy. Hi, I love using the ship's version of Next. Yeah, I couldn't be bothered, whatever. Which is just what? I saw a guy of a different race walk past my cabin earlier. Anyone else see him?
Starting point is 00:03:29 Very worried. Do you mean different race or different species? Oh, I mean different species. Different species, yeah. Yeah. Space racism. Yeah. I tried to think of what the ship version of Next Door would be, that I realized the joke wouldn't be funny,
Starting point is 00:03:46 it would be worth it, so I just kept writing. Next, porthole. Yeah. Yeah. Sure. I see why he made that choice. And finally, at the head of an enormous table covered in paper, dice and various rigmarole, DMing a session of the, of the latest DNDD, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, and, the, tho, tho, and, and, the, tho, and, and, to to toe, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I the, the, the, the, the, the, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th.... th. the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, toge, toge, too, too, too, too, too, too, they. they. they. they. they. they of the of the latest D&D real set they finally put out D&D6, it's Dave Harmon, Dungeon Master of our Steps Sister
Starting point is 00:04:11 Podcast Dragon Friends and producer of the star jumping roguelite jumplight juplight odyssey for League of Geeks. Hey Dave, welcome. Thanks for having me and thanks in this beautiful word picture for placing me in this, in a room that you thought I would be comfortable for for some kind of presumed apocalypse. It's very nice of you. On the decks of the, uh, the fucking hangar bay, just hanging out. Yeah. And we had to destroy, I'm not going to lie, we had to get rid of a lot of refugee housing to get this table in here. So I, I, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the, the, the, the, th....... th. th. the, the, the, thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the bottom of my heart, thank you for making me feel so. Morale is important and we're going to need it.
Starting point is 00:04:46 It's very important that nobody watched these games, by the way. I'm not a monkey. If anything I would really prefer if you could just put up some curtains, I'll just play my games and you can just take us out of here, that's fine. Ben, Ben did ask me to prepare a D&D themed intro for this, but I haven't played Dungeons and Dragons, that shouldn't be enough. That's shocking. That's a surprising revelation. What do you mean that's through that revelation, Lucy? Give us a little more texture on that. No, no, I think that's pretty much it. I think I covered it. You strike me as someone who's dabbled as an elf. I, I hate the elves all the way th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thathea, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. thoooooo. the. the. elf. I hate the elves all the way up
Starting point is 00:05:26 there. Hey how's the air up there? Just a bit of elf racism humor. Fuck them. I don't know, Theo. I feel like you've you've presented yourself over the years as somebody with a range of particularly niche interests that you can really dive into and hyper focus on. And I like D&D is something that that slots together for people in that kind of way. You've never assembled a space marine or anything? That feels like gateways. Although although in like deference I guess I am reading 40K novels at the moment. Oh, come on. But I have never played a game of it. It's just, it's just schlock. It's just pulp to kind of coat my brain in as I go to sleep for the night.
Starting point is 00:06:15 Which are going through, Eisenhorn or Court's ghosts? I just done Eisenhorn. Hell yeah, brother. I'm the i'm Eisenhorn piled. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, very but the rest of you, Eisenhorn is a very cool. It's Space Inquisitor who has lots of adventures. And he's sort of like the bad boy of space and ques. Yeah, he's really is the he cares too much. He's like the vimes of Space Inquisitors. He really, actually, yeah, you're right. There is a bit of the disqualiet boy. Space. Space. Space. the the the the the the th. the th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. I thi. I th. I th. I's, I'm. I'm. I'm th. I'm the th. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I. the the th. I. I. I. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm right. There is a bit of the disqual thing there in the Abnit books. Is that what the podcast's about now?
Starting point is 00:06:46 We're going to talk about- Absolutely. Now, you guys have read both the Dan Abnett works for 40K and the discord books, right? Are they're horny? No. Never delving into fanfic sort of territory. No, okay. Yeah, I think that would make the readers deeply uncomfortable. There's there, you know, pages and pages of weapon specifications and like holy readings of violence. Yeah, very, very very little space sets. I've, I've painted a Warhammer army. Okay. Like probably too late in life to start. You know what I mean? Like no excuse kind of thing. But, um, but I, like I was like I was like I was. I was. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, th, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th th. th. th. the really, thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. th. the late in life to start, you know what I mean? Like no excuse kind of thing. But, but like I was, this was back in the day, folks, for you young people out there, where you had to go into the office if you had a job. And it meant that like you just sort of had to hang out all day with these people.
Starting point is 00:07:42 And the only reason you were hanging out was because you're all employed by the same company or department and I was working with this guy who was very into Warhammer and we worked very close to a Warhammer store so we would go by there and he would say hello to his sweaty friends who ran the joint and so I ended up like painting an army which I was into for that reason. We talking space elves or regular. No, we're talking warhammer, regular warhammer. Oh, now that's a dead army.
Starting point is 00:08:14 Now that's a pervert's game. That's a game where you have to show it with a lot of very sweaty cases. Yep. But I was always really bad at the game because you have to remember like a lot of a lot of very sweaty cases. Yep, yep. But I was always really bad at the game because you have to remember like a lot of rules and the sequence of turns and things you're meant to be doing and so anytime I would play a game I would just be constantly pissing people off by getting to a point of my turn who would go, wait a minute, you were meant to roll for this thing like two stages go in this turn and I go, oh. I, I, I, I, I don, I don, I don, I don, I don, I don, I don, I don't, I don't, th, th, th, th, th, th th thi, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you have, you have tho, you have tho, you have tho, you have tho, you have tho, you, you have thi, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, th, th, you, you, th, you, you, th, th, you, you, th, th, th, you, you, th, you, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, would go, wait a minute, you were meant to roll for this thing, like two stages go in this turn and they go, oh, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:08:48 And they go, damn it, now you can't go back and do it. Fuck, fuck. It's a funny experience because in my experience the type of people that play tabletop role playing games at brick and water stores are famously very ca. very chill about the rules. Yeah, it's amazing they let you get that far to be honest. Yeah, yeah, it wasn't for me. It wasn't for me remembering numbers and when to do things. That's not. Now, what will I hope I haven't put the caliber of this podcast down.
Starting point is 00:09:17 I've really, like, Oh, this is several levels. We can talk about, um, sure doesn't have a caliber. We can talk about buildings full of discarded skin or whatever the fuck it is we've got on the notes this this week. Before we do, while we're on the topic of games, I did pick up Jump Light Odyssey, which I mentioned you, Dave, your producer, producer on. And first of all, extremely sick Macross theme to it. A way higher production.
Starting point is 00:09:40 And first of all, extremely sick Macross theme to it, a way higher production intro movie than I was expecting, which is a very very Macross schlock kind of wonderful like 1980s anime. Yeah, yeah, and a shout out to Studio Show Off in Melbourne who made that for us. They did a fantastic job, but yeah, it's basically like, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, it's a, uh, it's a, it's a, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, it, uh, uh, uh, it's a, it's a, it, uh, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, uh, it, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, uh, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, a shout out to studio show off in Melbourne who made that for us. They did a fantastic job, but yeah, it's basically like, it's a, it's a, how do you describe it's a, it's a roguelite like, like, FtL, if anyone's played Ftel, but like mixed with theme hospital? Yeah, we call it a colony simulator sometimes, but that's, you're dead on. It's like, it's a mix between the the theme, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, a the the the the their, a their, a their, a their, a their, a their, a, a, a, a, a. the, a, a. the, a. the, like, a. the, a. the, a, a. the, a. the, a. the, a, a. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's like it's a it's a mix between theme hospital or evil genius and so there's a bit of like there's a lot of like 1970s anime in there and there's a bit of battle star-galctica in FTL and there's a little bit of those incredible cross-sections star
Starting point is 00:10:33 wars books you know the books that just like you would open them up and there would be that's that's Ben that's that's that's Ben that's Ben that's Ben that's Ben that's Ben that's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's that's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's that's Ben's Ben's that's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's that's Ben's Ben's Ben's that's that's Ben's Ben's that's that's that's that's Ben's that's Ben's Ben's that's Ben's that's Ben's Ben's that's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's Ben's that's that's that's Ben's been been been been been been been been been been Ben's been been Ben's been Ben's been Ben's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the the the the the that. The ones where they just go and here's the engine room. Here's the, yeah. The games meant to sort of tweak the same, you know, to the same part of the brain for the same special little boy. It's weird that we haven't really seen any of these games for a long time. I think since, I don't know if you, I can't even remember the name of it, but there was a game around 2000 where you were building a space station on this big donut shaped thing and you had to like, it was very theme hospital, you had to manage all the different kind of needs of like
Starting point is 00:11:22 the different races that would come and join you and, uh, you and if I can remember the name of it, someone's going to yell at me and the- Someone's yelling from them right now. No, it's not. But I guess my point is- Oh wait, that's actually Tonka, like the Tonka trucks. Yeah, I think fuck around on being the captain of like the enterprise or whatever, right? But like the minutiae of it.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Yeah, yeah, and that's, I think that's very much what the game is meant to be about, which is like, not so much about like picking up a laser pistol and going and shooting aliens, but instead just like having to deal with the administration of running a space colony and running a ship. So a lot of the game is about priority requisition of resources, supply, talking to your officers, getting them to do things, setting the alert levels on the ship to properly respond to the threats that are coming in. Yeah, you want the lights to be flashing the right color.
Starting point is 00:12:21 They got to make the lights the lights the lights the lights the lights the lights the lights the lights the lights the lights the lights the lights lights to the right color. They gotta, you gotta make those lights flash the right color, because that's the only way everyone knows what to do. That's how we all, we're all in it together, we're all in a ship together. We gotta do the best that we can, we gotta defeat this, escape from the zo space Balkans. Oh, I'm sorry if I got too excited about the space bureaucracy and I gave the highly detailed and model space bureaucracy. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, sure. For your layman, there are guns on the ship, you can fire them. You're being pursued by Admiral Voltain and you have to have little fights with him all
Starting point is 00:13:04 the way. But also you can requisition some forms and if that doesn't excite you then I'm sorry. It does excite Theo. Yeah, I'm actually a little bit worried about the combat. I haven't seen it yet. I just want to be like distributing my horrible little people to like the right rooms and stuff. Like theme hospital where you had to like balance hiring somebody but they were an alcohol.. the the their their th, their th, th, th an th, th an th, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thi tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thooooooo, thooooooooooooo, thoooooo, tho, tho, tho, right rooms and stuff. Like, like theme hospital, where you had to, like, balance hiring somebody but they were an alcoholic or whatever, right? Like, that's the shit I love. I don't know why. No, we got all that.
Starting point is 00:13:34 We're working on like, even more features of ways that, like, the crew can piss each other up during the flight at the moment, which is real fun. And hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, the, the, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the the the the the the they. the the they. the the they. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the the the the the of the moment, which is real fun. And hey, when you're all stuck together on a ship hurtling to space, through space, you're gonna piss speed up, oh my god. This is all, it's all fucking up again. It's all fucking. This is a Saturday morning. But hey, sometimes when you're stuck on a spaceship, hurtling through space, you're gonna piss each other off sometimes. It's only natural.
Starting point is 00:14:05 It's time for Nature Corner. Bultonistor, nature corner, rubber crab, sniffed my d'i'i. This story comes to us from press agency, UPI. The UPi. Pelican captured three weeks after zoo escape in England. You guys have got to get some more interesting birds. Now, I don't know if there's... Pelicans are pretty widespread thing, right? Like... You can just see them. You can see them.
Starting point is 00:14:58 You can see them. They are ungainly as fuck. They're enormous. They could only fly like 20 meters at a time. They're really big, very easy to spot. But are you saying that if you saw a pelican on the streets you wouldn't immediately assume that it was a runaway from a zoo? It's a good question. Let's apprehend him just in case. Yeah, it's profiling. See that ID. Yeah, I just feel like, if I saw a pelican working its way towar towar towar towar towar towar towar towar towar towar towar towar towar towar towar towar towar to to to to to to to to to to to to to the exit the exit the the the the to to to to to the their their their their their their their their very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very their their their their their their their their their their their their their, very the the the the the the the the the the the the to too-a too. too. too. too. too. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. th the. the. the See that idea. Yeah, I just feel like, I feel like if I saw a pelican working its way towards the exit of a zoo, I would automatically assume something was up.
Starting point is 00:15:31 Like they can't fly, right? They're like, can they? Or can they? Oh, can they? Yes, they can absolutely fly. They're so large. They are. Starting point is 00:16:07 yeah yeah they love a post here various Pixar films hit on there look we got a lot of pelicans in this country was spoiled for pelicans yeah I saw a we went to the beach the other day and there was like 40 of them all just having a hangout like threatening to eat any children that came close because they're enormous. They're big, they're larger than my children. Could fit a child in there. It's so easy. Right in there.
Starting point is 00:16:30 You got packed to him if you slowly digest. The game I was thinking of was Stratopia by the way. Okay. Note that one down, remember me. If you if you had your email client open and you were writing an angry 90% positive on steam go check it out 10 bucks That really was you had your voice had the cadence of somebody who was Enjoying the banter but was also definitely on Google in that moment. Yeah, yeah relieved to be able to put that thread to bed. He's the here's the other thing about this podcast. Dave. Nobody. Nobody respects the pacing okay in fact. I think I think, I th. I th. I th. Go. thi. thread to bed. Here's the other thing about this podcast, Dave. Nobody respects the pacing, okay? In fact, I think we all take it as a matter of course to, if we're ever on a roll, could I stop that, calm down a little bit. Hey, what's your rush? What's your
Starting point is 00:17:21 rush? We're all in this together. Yeah. We've got to make an hour out of this. Firmly on rails? No. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. that, thi. thi, thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that. that. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. that. that. that. th. th. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that, that, that, that's, that's, that's, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's theeeeee. thea. the. the. all in this together. Yeah. We got to make an hour out of this. to be firmly on rails? No. Get it off the rails, please. Let me just put the brakes on that real quick. Let me pull back the curtain, you know? All right. All right.
Starting point is 00:17:36 An eastern white pelican that escaped from a zoo in England, most exotic animal was safely recaptured three weeks later after being spotted on a beach about 30 miles away. Do you really have that few pelicans? I mean I'm looking here and it says that there are two species of pelicans that are, okay, so the endangered Dalmatian pelican, I hope it's a really funny looking one. I hope it looks cool. It probably doesn't. It just looks like a dirty regular penguin. Oh. It looks like a regular penguin that maybe got in an oil slick and someone, yes, an oil slick that someone are half-acidly cleaned. Perhaps the world's largest fresh water bird. Perhaps.
Starting point is 00:18:29 Perhaps. Perhaps could be. We haven't measured them, but if we're guessing. No way of knowing, but you know. If we're eyeballing it. But also, if your wild animal escapes from the zoo and lives for several weeks in what appears to be its natural habitat. Leave it alone.
Starting point is 00:18:48 That's its life now. Yeah. It's not like you've got a fucking tiger prowling the streets of, um, black pool. Yeah, although we all agree that would be fun. I would be very funny. But like if it's a pelagons just hanging out on the beach now, let it hang. It's not like it's in a bank. Go get a different one. Yeah, it's allowed to be there I think.
Starting point is 00:19:08 I'm surprised, I've done full 180 now because I'm surprised that they knew that oh, that's the pelican from the zoo. There he is. Hey. Hey. Yeah, someone. Well, do you think that's him? I've been looking for your pelican this whole time and I think I've found it. I saw a big wanted poster down the street. Yeah. They burned the edges of it to make it look old-timey.
Starting point is 00:19:34 Hey, I'm here for the reward. It's just the biggest sack you've ever seen. Thrasashing about. The Blackpool Zoo so is at the 14-week-old pelican. It's a baby. Yeah, a little baby. Escaped August 4th when it was spooked by a flock of seagulls and attempted to fly to the top of the flamingo house, but was carried away by strong winds.
Starting point is 00:20:04 Oh. So they can just fly off? I guess? And they just don't? Let's say, again, that's also not escaping. Like, escaping suggests some kind of intent, but this pelican ran away and then was hit by a very strong breeze. And then was rescued on a beach. Sounds more like he fell out of his enclosure, you know. The pelican was spotted on Granny's Bay,
Starting point is 00:20:31 near Lythevon last week, but managed to give Zookeepers the slip. Do you know, it just sounds like he's just existing. I don't know, I mean, I'm immediately picturing a Jason Bourne-style car chase away. From Granny's Bay? True. I mean I'm immediately picturing a Jason Bourne style car chase away from the Sue Keepers. True. Busy streets of Granny's Bay. This is a baby. He is fucking... Oh he's 14 weeks old. Yeah. He's bloody who's talking... What's the thing with the babies? Then they go on like... construction sites and they like avoid accidents very narrowly and stuff. Like babies day out.
Starting point is 00:21:08 Babies day outing it. Okay? The zoo announced that the pelican was spotted Wednesday at Heyer Park, gravel pits, waters in Nesbara North Yorkshire, about 30 miles from the zoo. Hey a park, that's Hay, Ha, H, H, they, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, H, they, they, they, the, they, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, they, they, they, the, they, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, the baby, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, about 30 miles from the zoo. Hey a park, that's Hay, H, A, hyphen, Park. Hey, a park. Hey, a park. All right.
Starting point is 00:21:38 I get nothing to say about any of those naming conventions. I think there is consistency there. I think we're going from Granny's Bay to Haye Park to, what was it, the North Ridge Gravel Society? What did you say? No, this is, that was all still the one name. Hayer Park Gravel Pit's Waters. Yeah. Now rolls off the tongue. I'm not picked, I'm not, this is like when they've got like three biomes overlapping in a game. I'm not not th. It it it it th. It's th. It's the th. It's. It's. It's like their their th. It's like th. It's like th. It's like there's like there's like their there's like there's like there's like there's like there's like there's like there's like, they. It's like, th. It's like, th. It's like, th. It's like, th. It's like, th. It's th. It's th. It's like, they. It's like, they. It's is like, they. This is, th. It's is, th. It's is, th. It's is, th. It's is, th. It's is like, th. It's is like, th. It's is like, th. th. It's like, their is like, their is like, their is like, their their th. It's like, they. It's like, th. It's like, th. It's like, th. It's like, th. It's like, they. It's like, their is like, three biomes overlapping in a game. I was not making sense of like, so there's a playground, a gravel pit and we're also... It's right next to a bay, it's within a bay. Is it like a beach, the beach in England, which is just gravel, gravel and water.
Starting point is 00:22:15 That's not a beach. That's right. It's the edge of a lake. It's a park and it's within a driving distance of a zoo. About 30 miles in fact. 30 miles. Maybe's made it a long way. He has made it a long way. I think you should respect that. Maybe he was escaping. Looking at a photo, it just looks like a swamp. Okay. Yeah, yeah that's England. Zoom in. Zookeepers responded to the scene. Weo, woo, woo, woo! And were loaned a kayak from a local family so they could reach the bird. What are you going to do kayak out there and grab him? That's apparently what happened? I think just grab it by the neck. Stay still. Hey, stay still over there.
Starting point is 00:22:57 Now we know you are able to fly out of the zoo, but if we come at you really slowly in a kayak... We're trusting you right now. We're trusting you to do the right thing. And you know, we're jokes on us because it worked. So that's why the zoo capers, they knew what they were doing and they knew the pelican was going to play a lot. They were highly trained in slowly approaching a pelican. Yeah, it's easier to them up. Yeah, why are we giving them so much shit? They did their job and it worked. This is, they went 30 miles out of their way, they identified the Pelican, their sources got to them,
Starting point is 00:23:30 they obtained extra vehicles using just their own like neighboring people, like the resources and contact networks, they got out there, they got the Pelican, they're sitting here in Australia, their pelicine they the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, they're the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, to, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, the pelican, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, th. th. their, th. They's's, their, the, their, their, their, the. We're, the. We're, their soa, tho, the.e. So, their soo, theirthey sending these zookeepers out like their, you know, the seal team, like you'll have to, you'll have to gain resources on site. We can't, we can't afford to let you out with a kayak. We can't, if you, if you get captured and people identify that as a government-provided kayak. We will disavow all knowledge. Yeah, I don't know. I think you could take that and flip it and say that if the zookeepers knew that the bird had left and they left with a car that contained a kayak, I would say that these suitkeepers
Starting point is 00:24:14 are too well equipped. The pelican is currently in quarantine and will be returned to the flock. They put him like throwne the fl to the fl to the fl to the flock soon," the zoo said. They put him like through the door and he just immediately flies back out the top again. Yeah. He knows how to leave now. Quarantine. Yeah, like putting him through those like the lock doors spraying him with. There's like an air lock at the zoo. Yeah, hitting him with the lice powder and everything. Yeah, quarantine is very nice for another cage while they watch him for a little bit. Hello, it's me, Ben, from this podcast. Starting point is 00:26:40 You're allowed to do it! What are you doing? It's allowed. You're over 35 years old. I know that already. In what kind of context am I permitted to cuddle my 36-year-old boyfriend? What's a good movie to cuddle on the couch? Well, you're not cuddling the movie. Just do a little proof reading before you post it. What's a good movie to cuddle on the couch with a new love interest? Nothing too gushy. th. thi. thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, that that thi, thi, thi, that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that thi, I I I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thioliolou thiolou thiolou thiolou thiolou thiolou thiolou thiolou thiolou thiolou thi thi. What's a good movie to cuddle on the couch with a new love interest? Nothing too gushy, also nothing that requires too much thought. Master and Commander.
Starting point is 00:27:11 Yeah. It's answered. Syneceticy New York. We're both super physically fit. Okay. All right. We've got stuff going on. And we both work really hard all day, and it's going to be raining the next couple of nights, so it will be nice to cuddle watching a movie. It has to be the right kind of movie though. I hardly ever watch movies at all.
Starting point is 00:27:37 You're saying some insane things. Like every bit of this is upsiding for some reason. I work out six hours a day. I don't have time to watch a movie. I work 12 hours a day. I don't enjoy my life. What is movie? Please find me movie, except while I hug my incredibly fit boyfriend. I don't know how to watch a movie. Do you have any suggestions I prefer no quote romance and quote
Starting point is 00:28:07 related genre. I already said not too muchy stuff. This is repeating now. Yeah. Okay. So um. Well, we have a question. A reply from still a bad flower says, if it is with the one who makes you feel loved and safe, then I would say every movie. So true. Beautiful. Beautiful. Also a coward's answer.
Starting point is 00:28:31 Yeah. Answer the fucking question. The original poster replies. No, we don't even know each other very well at all yet. I think you've got different problems than not knowing what movie to pick. I've got some suggestions from the comments here. 50 first dates. Completely didn't read the answer. She said no romance.
Starting point is 00:28:49 Nope. It's a romantic film. Well, also, it's kind of sad, right? It's pretty sad. It's pretty sad, when it's just like, what if you couldn't remember the person you loved? What if you had... Maybe this is she's she's in the situation. What's your Drew Barrymore and you got hit in the head with a coconut?
Starting point is 00:29:07 Maybe they've been dating for three years now. Every day this guy posts, oh I need to find a movie though. It was originally posting this in like, uh, the normal Reddit relationships. One day, woke up, looked at his driver's license and went, oh, okay, I guess I know where to put this post. We've also got, in the suggestions, Meet Joe Black.
Starting point is 00:29:31 Oh my God. Is that the one with the gorilla? No, that's Mighty Joe Young. Is that that Joe Dirt. Meat, Joe Black. No, that's Joe Dirt. It's the first time this mix-up has happened on the podcast. Which one's Meet Joe Black?
Starting point is 00:29:46 Meet Joe Black is the three-hour-long epic where Brad Pitt dies in the first 10 minutes and then goes on to like become a spiritual advisor for someone else? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it becomes death, that's right. It is three hours long. And it's got the cool bit where you like turns to like an old Haitian grandmother and speaks to her in patois. Oh, that sounds very cool. That sounds great. That's perfect.
Starting point is 00:30:13 I just snuggle closer together. Oh boy. Oh, another beautiful romantic suggestion here. The Green Mile. You'd like to watch a movie where like some people get roasted in botched execution. Yeah, because of racism, it's also very long. We also got bad boys. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:37 Oh hell yeah, okay. That's good though because you can do you cuddling, you can have a little chat. It kind of doesn't matter if you miss some of the plot beats. Yeah, you don't need to hear all the dialogue. Yep, you can just enjoy the graceful shots of a Porsche 9-11. Bad Boys too, maybe. It's got that scene where all the bodies fall out of the morgue true of the car chase. That's fun. It's just fun, it's fun, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it, it, it's, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, yeah, yeah, yeah, you, you, you, you, you, you the the, the, you the, you the, you the, you the, you the, you the, you the, you, you, you, you, you, you. Yeah, seen the third Bad Boys movie? No one's seen that. Bad Boys for life. And they both spend the whole time going,
Starting point is 00:31:11 they basically both become Danny Globber's character from Lethaws and they both spend the whole movie going, I'm old now. Yeah. And they do the thing from the expendables where they're like, we need to get some younger people in our team. Can put some young people on camera just to help out a little. We also have the suggestion of Chef. Oh, I think that's good. I think that's actually a good one. That's a good choice.
Starting point is 00:31:38 Yeah, think of what's good vibes. I like watching Chef. I re-watch that film. It's not explicitly romantic, except for the love for a good sandwich. It's got a pretty sexy scene when they make pasta, I disagree. Yeah, but it's not, the whole movie's not a romantic. One of my kids yesterday was, uh, remembering that we went to a, a caravan park or something last year, right? where they had like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, like, avan park or something last year, right, where they had like a
Starting point is 00:32:06 They had like a little library of DVDs and she was like yeah, and I went and picked some some movies for like me and my sister and I got a movie for mom. So I chose how to lose a guy in 10 days. Okay, which she did not watch at the time, but I feel like My wife watched this with the kids recently because she was like, yeah, let's watch a romantic comedy. That. th. th. th. th. That. That. T, th. T, th. T, th. T, th. T, th. T, the, the the the the the th. T, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their their their their their their their their their their their their they their they had like, their, they they had like, they had like, their, they they had like, their, they had like, their, their, they had their, their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their the, the. They had like, the. They had like, theat. They had like, their their their their their their their their their their wife watched this with the kids recently because she was like, yeah, let's watch a romantic comedy. That's harmless. But every romantic comedy from the 2000s is fucking terrible. Like, and I don't mean just a bad movie. I mean everybody involved hates each other. Yeah, they're all awful and they despise each other until like the last 10 minutes of the movie. Yeah, yeah, it's basically. It's, th. It's, the, the, the, the, the, th, the, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the, the, the, the, the, the, their their, their, their, their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their, their, their, their, their their their, their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their romantic, their romantic their romantic comedy, their romantic comedy, their romantic comedy, their romantic, their their their their their their th Yeah, they're all awful and they despise each other until like the last 10 minutes of the movie? Yeah, yeah, it's basically just like, here are two main characters, they despise each other and everybody is lying to each other for the entire film. That's a perfect movie to me.
Starting point is 00:33:00 Yeah. And also there's a lot of gay and trans jokes. Yep. Also a perfect. Always a worry when you put on something from like around the year 2000, the kids and then you're like, oh. Oh. Oh. We used to be worse than we are now. Yeah. It's incredible. I was watching some of friends recently. And you've, the amount of times that an episode will pivot into like transphobic comedy for like a topic that you would not expect to come up very often in the TV show Friends. Oh, it's a yeah, it's a well-worn observation, but the amount of times that either the male characters and friends have to say but I don't want to fuck any of my male friends and they do it
Starting point is 00:33:49 very frequently yeah or the early seasons Joey's whole character is just constantly telling his close female friends that he wants to fuck them oh Joey you're Italian yeah yeah yeah you're so Italian and he's like thi to fuck them. Oh Joey, you're Italian. Yeah, yeah. You're so Italian. He's like, hey, nice tits, Rachel. Yeah. Just very directly.
Starting point is 00:34:14 Very directly. Let's see here. Padigus gnome says, Moonrise kingdom is my go-to. It's a cute love story that doesn't get too heavy, but still has some intellectual value while also being fun and silly. Hopefully it's good for your super physically fit bodies. Why was that included? Yeah, that's a good slam. Why was that included it?
Starting point is 00:34:35 Well, the original poster replies. And good movie too. Lull, I included it to make clear that we're not couch potatoes. Far from it. I'm not used to melting into the couch, but it sure sounds good with him right about now. How are you this age and being so weird about like just watching a movie on the couch? Like, I don't do that. I don't do that kind of stuff. I don't know how to do it. The, is part of it, it, and maybe I'm reading too much too too too too too too too too too too too too too too too too thue thue thue thin, that, that, that, that, that, that, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thou... to to to to to toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooootoo much into this, is part of it that they're like trying to pick a movie that presents well for a date, like not something that will freak the other person out.
Starting point is 00:35:12 Because you can, like, I do want to think that's a pretty relatable experience when you're in a relationship and you pick a movie and you don't, haven't seen it and then you start, the them start to come out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out, oh the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th............ th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, the, the, the, thi, the, the, the, te. te. te. te. th. thi. thi. thi, th. thi, the themes of the movie start to come out, you're like, oh no. Uh-oh. Uh-oh. Yeah. And you're like looking over at your partner and they're just like on their phone. Oh, yeah. They're like this? Yeah, I am. You like this?
Starting point is 00:35:35 And you like this? And you like? Yeah, yeah. The answer is in Bruges. Oh yeah, that's good. What a film. What a film. Great film. My mom told me that she started watching the Banshees of Insurin. Did she enjoy yourself? She said they turned it off like 15 and 20 minutes in. It was like, what a bummer! And I said, oh, it's, it turns out to be much it was a bummer. I thought it was insanely funny. Yeah, I, me and my friends were laughing a lot and in a room where there was not a lot of other people in the cinema laugh.
Starting point is 00:36:10 Yeah, same, the cinema was full and we were like laughing and nobody else was. And then I read all these reviews of like, damn, that was a depressing movie. Oh, it's like pitch black comedy. I just love, like everything that Colin Farrell is doing. It's wonderful. Yeah. It was good in that. The rest of the movie. Wow, Bruges, that's near the Netherlands, maybe. Yeah, checks out. Comparatively to where we are now, you know? Okay, that's the, that's the art stick.
Starting point is 00:36:37 The films have got to be near the Netherlands. No, but sometimes we go near the Netherlands when we cover stories from there in the following segment, Dutch Watch. Everybody, I'm from Holland. Isn't that the ear? Yeah, dear, thereel. They've looked crestfallen. I thought you were reaching out. I thought we were having a real communication, and you were just doing spiel. Look, the edge is always odd. The segments on the show are far and wide and you've really got to keep your eye out for
Starting point is 00:37:16 any tenuous connection to where it's going next, you know? And it can be paper thin and you got to latch on and go. There is absolutely I think nothing more infuriating than thinking that you're talking to someone and then they play a pre-recorded sting at you. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemies. Oh, my goodness. Welcome to Budavista. Yeah, the podcast where people guessed once. This comes to us from the NL times.
Starting point is 00:37:59 Scare quotes around this word, Dutch man. Uh-oh. Hmm. Hmm. Hmm. scare quotes around this word, Dutch man. Duch man found on deserted Bahamas island is actually German. Boo. I'm trying to figure out in my head which one of these is worth. Yeah, which one's high Dutch and which one's low Dutch. A 64 year old man rescued on Friday by the US Coast Guard is German. Dun, da, and not Dutch as was previously announced by the Coast Guard on Wednesday. Real mid-50s moral panic. It's really important that we get this update out there.
Starting point is 00:38:41 Which is worse? That's what I'm trying to figure out. Which is worse? Do they have like a, do they have like a skin shot, and depending on how peeling their skin is, it's like Dutch German, Dutch, German? Oh, yeah, I'm trying to figure out whether they're like, oh, we thought we rescued a normal person but it turns out he's Dutch. Or we thought we rescued a proud Dutchman but it turns out he's Dutch. Or, we thought we rescued a proud Dutchman, but it turns out he's a lying German. Well, did he just say Deutsch, and they didn't know what that meant? Seems likely. It's very possible.
Starting point is 00:39:20 I think he's Dutch but also from New York? He's got Sunstruck. Can't talk. Rescue has found the German man after he had spent three days on the uninhabited island of Kaisal. Kaisal is about 50 kilometers off the coast of Kuba. He wound up there after he ran into problems with his sailboat. 64-year-old men love taking their sailboat out and getting fucked up.
Starting point is 00:39:48 I'm excited for my dad to do it when he finishes building his boat. Yeah, just go out by himself on a sailboat off Cuba. Oh, just to go out and have to have to immediately get his money's worth out of one of those rescue beacons, you know? You're like waving him off like the end of Lord of the Rings. He's going to heaven or whatever. Photo shared by the Coast Guard on ex-formally Twitter. It's so cool that they have to say that how every article.
Starting point is 00:40:21 Yeah. I like that, um, I like that, uh, yeah, most articles either just call it Twitter, or have to say, Twitter, which its new owner is now saying, is this? Yeah, temporarily X. That is, that's a perfect branding exercise, right? That's exactly how you wanted to go. I just had the thing on my phone updated and it replaced, it already replaced the logo with the X logo and then it had updated again to put like a 90s grunge filter over the X logo.
Starting point is 00:40:51 Yeah, it's got like a little grunge like scratchy thing on it. It's so cool. It's like the first Instagram filters they put outpapers with like Lincoln Park photos with the things. Yep. It's fucking awful. Photos shared by the Coast Island X show that the man had written S-O-S in huge letters in the sand.
Starting point is 00:41:14 That's the way to do it. That works? Does that work? He was eventually found after flares fired into the sky by the man from his boat were spotted. The boat later sank. Oh. Oh. Oh. From the air, the coast guard then dropped water, food and a radio for communication on
Starting point is 00:41:34 the island. Like, maybe just pick him up while you go. Suss him out, suss him out, you might have ocean madness. I think this is just they were doing this regulation. This is the right way to do it. They got to drop a radio first and say, where are you from? Is it one of the good places? Yeah, I don't want to be mean about this, but like men over a certain age coming from around South America who are German can sometimes be a bit of a bummer. Are you Dutch? Uh, yes.
Starting point is 00:42:08 The man was eventually picked up by a cutter that was nearby. The German has been transferred to the Royal Bahamas Defense Force in good health, the Coast Guard said. Calling him the Germans rough, like, The German. Do this guy's name, I'm sure. The German. Do they give his name at any point or is it for privacy?
Starting point is 00:42:30 Nope, the German. They're respecting the privacy of the German, the one German. It's a Dutch New Yorker. It's a interesting reason, like, if you're going to do a human interest story like that, dehumanizing the person, it's very strange I that...... I. I. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, you're going to do a human interest story like that dehumanizing the person it's very strange I think. I assume that they didn't, he didn't want to be identified because he's in the middle of presumably committing massive boat insurance fraud but like yeah seems strange to me. Stupid dumbass not actually our problem. That's right we all hate to be put on blast and sometimes companies are put on blast.
Starting point is 00:43:07 Yeah, so you've got to know when he starts doing this voice, that's a segue. Yeah, I got it now. I identify that, that rhythm. Sometimes companies get put on blast in the PSA per segment. This comes to us from Next Star Media Wire. Bought dull fruit bowls recently? You may be eligible for settlement cash. Yes, I love settlement cash. I love getting like $10 from a settlement. Because someone somewhere got diarrhea from Taco Bell, you know? I got a message from my, from my insurance, insurance, from my insurance, from Morris Blackburn, the lawyers
Starting point is 00:43:50 saying like you could be suing MLC right now. I don't know if I've got the time to be suing the tell. You just got to put your name on it and then you'll get your seven dollars down the law. I know you're going to require it and be like, yeah, can I have somebody? I feel like, I feel like in the age of like just massive, rampant phone fraud and email fraud, I'd kind of measure myself ever signing up for any kind of joint action suit ever again. Like, roll the dice.
Starting point is 00:44:20 Give me a number. What's the worst that could happen? Well, like sometimes these things are th th are th are th are th are things are things are things are things are things are things are things are things are things are thi things are about thi thi thi thi thi the worst that could happen? Well, like sometimes these things are about, you know, oh, it turned out they weren't covering anyone's insurance kind of stuff. This one though... Go on. Dull fruit balls. Let's see how we feel about this.
Starting point is 00:44:40 A lawsuit was filed against dull packaged foods in Illinois, accusing the company of falsely advertising that many of its dull fruit bowls were made with, quote, 100% juice. Instead plaintiffs said the bowls contained, quote, trace amounts of scorbiaic acid and or citric acid or other ingredients. What? Like trace amounts of fruit? Of fruit acid.
Starting point is 00:45:08 Yeah, of additives, I guess. Dole has denied wrongdoing, saying the statement, in 100% juice, is about how the fruit is packaged and does not cover every ingredient in the product. Still, the company has agreed to a 4.3 million dollar settlement in the case, according to a website dedicated to the company has agreed to a $4.3 million settlement in the case, according to a website dedicated to the lawsuit. Finally, justice. It's great to see justice being so-
Starting point is 00:45:33 I've got to say, I don't know if Dahl's done anything wrong here. Yeah. I'm on the corporation side here. They've spent $4.3 million just that they know that they've done something wrong. You've done something wrong, but it's hard to know what the, like, yeah, in a moral sense, like, we said we were putting 100% juice in there, but there's also some vitamin C? Yeah, it's also some citric acid in there. Sorry. The thing I don't get, and I don't understand is that they said, oh no, no, no no when we say it's a hundred percent fruit juice we're talking about how we package it and that doesn't make any sense to me. What does that
Starting point is 00:46:09 make sense to anyone else? Like yeah like it's just saying that's in juice. So I assume they've got a they've got a popper or something and they put the juice and they're saying well because it's all liquid then that's a fruit bowl, I assume it's like a fruit cup type. You've got the pieces of fruit and they submerge it. In 100% fruit juice. Yeah, you know how they say like in juice or in syrup or in jelly if you're nasty. Right. Oh, so they're saying like they treat the peach pieces or whatever with the Serbic acid.
Starting point is 00:46:39 So they are 100% of what we would be calling the little fruit cups. Yeah, like a fruit cup, right? Yep. Yeah. How did someone figure this out? Have they just been trying to get a lawsuit going? Just testing all the things that say 100% this? Because that's smart. That'd be a good scam.
Starting point is 00:46:56 Trying to do class actions on 100% juice. I mean, really, they're got they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're to they're to to to to to to to to to to to thi. thi. to to to to to to to to to to thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. theeeei. toei. toei. toei. toei. toei. toei. toei. toei. toee. the. the. th've got to learn the lesson that from now on, they say, in fruit juice. Don't say 100%. They say, absolutely pure, untainted. Huh. You always get scared, like, ripping into these kind of cases too much because of the, things like, the McDonald's coffee cup case, where it's always fun to make fun of American like frivolous lawsuits, and then you realize like, oh, there's a reason., the the the th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, tho, tho, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, don't, tho, tho, don't, don't, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, thi, thi, thin, thi's thoooooooo, thi, thi, thi, cup case, where it's always fun to make fun of American like frivolous lawsuits and then you realize like, oh there's a reason, the people, people care a lot about 100% fruit juice because in the 70s they used to put rat poison to the ground rules.
Starting point is 00:47:35 Are you drawing a parallel to these two things, are you, are you, are you imply that someone got like severely burned? Yeah, someone's genitals were ruined by these fruit cubs. I don't know, I don't know, and until I know, I would be lawsuit. Yeah, it seems fair. I'm, I'm against the man. They are, I'm, I'm anti big business. Now, I'm, too, but. Now, to our American listeners, ears poked up. al. Yeah, this is th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. to. the. the. the. to. the. the. the. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. American listeners, ears poked up, all right? Pay attention. Yeah, this is your part where you find out if you are eligible for this, okay?
Starting point is 00:48:12 Paid it. To qualify for a settlement payment, you need to have purchased any of these dull fruit bowls between January 12, 2017. So try to remember what you were doing. I might have bought a dull fruit bowl. This could be me. It has to have been one that was packaged in Illinois though. Oh what, no wait, hold on. They were just packaged there anywhere. No, yeah, I assume they would have been packaged in like Thailand like it says on the on the product.
Starting point is 00:48:42 So between January 12th, 2017, and we all remember what we were doing that day and every day since until June 27th, 2023. All right, did you buy any of these products? Cherry mixed fruit, diced apples, diced pairs, diced slash chunk mango, papaya mango, peach mango, mandarin oranges, mixed fruit, pineapple tidbits or slices or chunks or crushed. Mixed fruit, pineapple paradise, red grapefruit sunrise,
Starting point is 00:49:14 melon medley, tropical fruit, or diced, sliced, peaches labeled in 100% juice or in 100% fruit juice. Now if you were listening to that and thinking to yourself, yes, on June 23rd, 2021, I was eating a dull fruit bowl. Pineapple tidbits. Yeah, I was having them tidbits. Let's keep them thanks on me. Big tidhead. While you do not need proof of purchase to take part in the settlement, you can only receive a cash refund of ofi th, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, to to to thi, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, thi, thi, thanks on me. Big tid-head. While you do not need proof of purchase to take part in the settlement, you can only
Starting point is 00:49:48 receive a cash refund of up to $9 per household. Oh, so you can lie and you just get the money. It's wild, you can just say I had that. I did have some. I just remembered. Yeah, now that up to $18 per household. Time to start forging a receipt. Hunting through those 2017 receipts.
Starting point is 00:50:15 Settlement claims can be filed online or via mail through September 25th, 2023. So, you know, you've got a month, basically, as I've recorded. To get your free $9 from dollars. Perhaps 18. If you can go to the effort of of faking some shit like that. Yeah, you get $9 but you can extend it to 18 if you have a five-year-old receipt on hand or any friend. Mm-hmm. Those are the two ways to do it. Yeah. Yeah, but they have to hand their $9 over to you, right? Oh, I guess that's free money, it's free cash. It's free.
Starting point is 00:51:07 It's free. They don't make entirely clear whether you need to be living in the US to make this claim. Or if you can be from any region, it's time for regional bullshit. Regional bullshit. Regional bullshit. Every little town has got their own bullshit. Regional bullshit. Every little town has just got to have it.
Starting point is 00:51:39 Yes. A region. This comes from WLWT. The Willow... A giant beer festival is happening in the middle of an Indiana corn maze this fall. Yes. Time to whip out that Indiana accent Andrew. Grab a beer and weave your way through a corn maze at a festival in Indiana this fall.
Starting point is 00:52:15 That is a direct order. That sounds so fun. This is not optional. That's simply a good idea. Yeah, that's a great day out. That's a great day out. They did it. They had a good idea. Yeah that's a great that's a great day out. They did it. They had a good idea. The Corn Maze Beer Fest will take over an 11 acre corn maze behind 450 North Brewing Company on October 7th from 11 a.m. 2.m. That's a really big corn maze. The scale of this is actually starting to catch me a little off guard. Like is this. And you get one beer on the way in. There's no more stations. So... You got to have more than one beer. That's a big corn maze. And then try to walk for 11 acres in the maze. The Fest will feature more than 80 breweries from across the country throughout the 11 acre corn maze. Just donned around. This is wonderful. the the the the the the the the there. T there. T there. T there. T there. T there. T there. T there. T there. T there. T there. T there. T there. T there. There's there. Oh, this is through the maze. This is wonderful. So hang on, so if you want to get like to where there's a good pale l or whatever, you've got to go, okay, so either you know your way there
Starting point is 00:53:19 or you have to trace your way along the left-hand wall until you reach it, which might be like the whole corn maze. Yes. Yes. This. And this. And this. And this. And this. And this. And this. And this is, and this is, and this is, and this is, this is, this is, this is a, this is a, this is a great. It is a great. There's also a minotaur. They will kill you. But yeah, that's great fun. I actually really love that.
Starting point is 00:53:37 Like you just, you get lost. You keep drinking beer. You can't find your way out. The sun starts to get dark. It's, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, the their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, the the the the their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, the their, their, their, their. And, tha.to, the sun starts to get dark, it's getting cold, you keep drinking. It sounds wonderful. Well, you're wandering through the maze, incredibly parched, and you find another brewer. He doesn't have any water. He just has... No, this is an IPA and you go, uh, too bitter. I'm just going backwards and forwards with sour and chocolate stouts and I'm really not enjoying myself. The breweries will offer unlimited beer samples all day.
Starting point is 00:54:20 Okay. Irresponsible. Irresponsible. Very irresponsible. I just feel like, imagine like the RSA when you want to leave, when you have drunk too much, you have to wander through a maze. An 11 acre maze. Passing free samples of beer until the fate's deemed to let you out of the maze. You have to answer three questions before you may leave. Here's your keys. So unlimited beer samples all day, there will also be food trucks set up outside the corn maze serving a variety of food. Oh, you want to eat something in between all your drinks? You have to completely leave. You must pass the test first. The smart thing to do, I guess, is to fill up before you go in there, you know, get a bed down before you go in and start. Think ahead. How long you plan to stay in this maze? Are the toto the the the the the the the the toy the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the toyla the the ta ta ta ta ta ta treenase. ta treel. treel. treezea. tree. tree. tree. their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. t ahead. How long you planning to stay in this maze? Are the toilets in the maze?
Starting point is 00:55:07 That's just my first thought. I mean, I'm already worried. The poor maze is a toilet. It's an 11-acre toilet. There will also be live music throughout the day. Once you're firmly in the maze, you realize they're just playing the same song over and over and over. It's Vince, Julie's riptide on repeat by cover bands. You can't leave.
Starting point is 00:55:32 Oh, boo! Water stations will be set up throughout the maze and the garden area. That's smart. That's smart. They've thought about this. That last year was a disaster. Twelve dead! There's your RSM. They've thought about this. That last year was a disaster. 12 dead. The maze opens at 2 p.m. and goes until 6 p.m. You can also get VIP access starting at 1230 p.m. What does that mean? They've just carved one part straight through to the middle. Only VIPs can use that bit.
Starting point is 00:56:03 Tickets are $60 for general admission and $110 for VIP. I wonder how many beer samples you got a drink to get your $60 worth. Yeah, four hours. It has a lot of money I guess, but yeah. But for the magic, some of the money you're spending on the mates. It's not just a beer sample. Yeah, it's true. It's about the experience, you know.
Starting point is 00:56:29 Hey, let's let's skip across to a I'm assuming Relatively nearby region of East Idaho. They both start with I how far apart could they be? Yeah. Theo you want to punch that up real quick quick? Tell us how far apart, Indiana and Idaho are? Is it, Iowa is the one in the wrong spot? So Idaho is got to be left of that. Let me just see if I've got that right. So you go, Indiana. No, Ohio is the one in the wrong spot. Idaho is, uh, and for American, listen, we will sort out where your states should
Starting point is 00:57:07 be at some point for you. Oh, it's all the way over there. Uh-oh. They fucked up that one. Oh, that should be somewhere else. This comes to us from the East Idaho news. Shorts now allowed at BYU Idaho as church announces updates to endorsements, honor code and dress standards. Finally, permitted to wear shorts. At University. BYU is a university. Oh, it's a Mormon. It's a Mormon.
Starting point is 00:57:34 Yeah. Well done. Crack the code real quick. That's why Lucy was immense or once. It's the stuff you've got to know. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced updates Thursday to the student endorsement process, honour code and dress and grooming standards at its schools, including Brigham Young University, Idaho. That means that, after a decades-long ban, shorts and flip-flops will now be allowed at the Rexburg University in a movement to quote, simplify and unify dress and grooming standards across all Latter-day St. Campuses.
Starting point is 00:58:12 What have they become? That's right, I might as well go to a Sinners University. Yeah. So Brigham University was founded in 1875 and this is a decades long ban. So they have become more conservative. More conservative about shorts? There was a beautiful heyday in the presumably early 2000s where you could wear shorts and young university. I don't know maybe maybe they just didn't know about shorts and flip-flops. So they weren't in the coat because it was old trousers. Yeah maybe. Somebody wasn't a problem. Cultural norms were eroding.
Starting point is 00:58:47 Yeah. Somebody wore them one time there was a riot. Several people died, and they said, we got a we got to ban this. Quote, students on each campus will be allowed to wear shorts, provided those shorts are in keeping with the principles and expectations given. A news release set, so not the shorts that Ben wears. Yeah. I don't think. We're talking those long American shorts that go just past the knee. You need some silver and one basketball shorts that are coming down to mid-carf. Like a giant pair of rip-court, girl or billabong board shorts. Yes- Those are the shorts that are closest to God. You basically need to be wearing the basketball shorts that Adam Sandler wears in any given
Starting point is 00:59:32 photo of him walking around in the street. Yes. Oh, we're talking, we're talking Kevin Smith Jorts here. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think that's respectful. Are we talking Jorts? Are we talking jorts? Oh, they're jorts at BYU? If anything, I think jorts are more formal. Jorts are more formal, right? Yeah, jorts are classy. They class up a place.
Starting point is 00:59:54 I ironed these jorts before I put them on, you'd say, in your disciplinary review with the dean. Previously, dress and grooming expectations varied across CES institutions. The new dress and grooming principles and expectations identify an important set of foundational principles while retaining a set of common expectations to assist with the application of these principles. Although shorts are now allowed, men are still required to be clean-shaven. Neatly trimmed moustaches are okay. And hair must be clean, neat, neat, neat, to be clean-shaven. Neatly trimmed moustaches are okay. And hair must be clean, neat, modest, and avoid extremes in styles and colours. No, no pop-punk dye jobs. No blonde tips. No tips. No tips. No mohawks. Uh, no mohawks. Sloppy, overly casual, ragged or extreme clothing is not acceptable. No fear t-shirt. There is a picture of Adam Sandler for some reason.
Starting point is 01:00:54 What are we picturing when we picture extreme clothing, folks? A graphic t-shirt. I reckon the bottom of one of the pockets is visible. Like at the bottom of the leg? You know how sometimes the inside of the pocket pokes out the tips out the tipe of of of of... of the. of the of of of th. the of. th. the th. th. th. tip. tip. tip. tip. tip. th. th. th. th. th. tip. tip. tip. tip. thi. tiped, thea. thea. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. tip. tip. tip. tip. tip. tip. tip. tip. tip. tip. tipe, tipe, tipe, tipe, tipe, tipe. tipe. tipe. tipe. tipe. tipe. tipe. tipe, tipe, tipe, tipe, tipshafic t-shirt. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. None of that. Men and women who attend BYU, Idao, BYU in Provo, Utah, and Ensign College, in Salt Lake City, have been required to receive an ecclesiastical endorsement from their bishop. Now each student will be asked the following 12 questions. Are you all ready to answer these?
Starting point is 01:01:34 Yeah. Yeah, is this the same story or have we moved on? Okay. No, so the BYU Hawaii, Hawaii, you couldn't wish shorts before? Yeah, you got to get your, your, the, the, the ecc.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... the BYU Hawaii, you couldn't wish it before. Stinking at West, BYU Hawaii, that's horrible. Yeah, you gotta be... Gonna get your full-length den up. Yeah. All right, everybody, so just ask yourself these questions as we go along
Starting point is 01:01:56 and think about whether or not it would not be appropriate for you personally to attend BYU Hawaii. Are you striving to deepen your testimony of God, the Eternal Father, His Son, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost? Yes. Yes. Are you striving to deepen your testimony of the resteration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Yes.
Starting point is 01:02:15 I think so. Sure. Are you striving for moral cleanliness in your thoughts and behavior? Yes. Always, always, all the time. Every day. This is great. Do you obey the law of chastity? Now, what a cool bunch of people. Now, unfortunately, Dave was just telling us about his three-month-old baby, so I'm worried
Starting point is 01:02:47 about this one for you. Yeah, this is, you know, it's, that's, I think that the ability that having a child should not preclude me from your church, but we can agree to disagree on that. Okay. I guess it depends on how Christfully you had that baby. It was extremely uncomfortable and embarrassing for everyone. Did anybody enjoy themselves at any time? Well if that way if that is self-disqualifying then I can happily report no. Do you sustain the first presidency and the quorum of the 12 apostles as prophets,
Starting point is 01:03:27 seers and revelators? Sustain. Yep. Yeah. Sustained, your honor. Mm-hmm. Do you support or promote any teachings, practices, or doctrine contrary to those of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? Yes. Yep, what contrary doctrines are you promoting theater? Warhammer stuff. I just thought we're answering yes to everything. Yeah they tricked you. You can't just go down and tick yes on all of them. Oh no. That's clever. Oh boy. Okay so two down. Lucy's in it though. Do you regularly participate in your church meetings and strive to keep the Sabbath day holy? 100% the Sunday. That's. That's th. That's th. That's. That's. That's. That's. Starting point is 01:04:10 Mm-hmm, I will not be working on the Sabbath. Do you strive to be honest in all that you do, including keeping the commitments you have made? That's just good behavior, isn't it? Yeah, let's just keeping it real, you know? I try try try, I times I am trying. The church educational system is supported and funded by the tithes of the Church of Jesus Christ. Are you a full tithe payer? You're not still 9% are you? How much is a tithe? Oh, okay. Well, it's working for him.
Starting point is 01:05:09 It is working for him. Patrons, have you been tithing to Buntavista of the podcast? Are you a full tithe, Bay-oh? Ask yourself. Are you just giving the $5 a month? Giving the bare minimum? Just the minimum.. Starting point is 01:05:27 Yeah, you can put whatever number in the field to say that you want to, you want to help us out with. Yeah, maybe just... You can obey the law of chastity or you want, but if you're not full the presidency of the podcast. Do you obey the word of wisdom? Probably. It makes sense, doesn't it? No, I obey the word of stupid stuff.
Starting point is 01:05:58 Yeah. Who's doing that? Who's putting the hand up for that one? Are you striving to live the teachings of the church and keep the covenants you have made to this point in your life? I guess an easy one. Future covenants that's up in the air. What does striving mean? That's so easy to say yes to. Yeah. It's like sure. For sure I'll work on it. Yeah, I'm really. I'm really. Let me get a riot on that. I'm the their their their their to their to to their to their to their their to to their to their to their to their their to to to their to to to to to th. I'll to to to to th. I'll the co- I'll th. Like is there minor infraction sins? Also what's the correct answer? What if I say no? Is that,
Starting point is 01:06:41 am I not being humble? I think a non-serious sin is saying 100% fruit juice. Yes, okay, minor infraction. That's a white lie in my view. Serious sins. Premarital sex, Lucy. I'm like it sounds like it. Three people here that have got a child. It's interesting.
Starting point is 01:07:04 Three, three are you, that have got a child. It's interesting. Yeah. Three are you, can be proven. I'm married. I'm married. I can be proven, not me. I did it Christly style. Except for all the sex before the marriage. So look, if you personally as a listener have passed all of those questions, maybe consider going to a Mormon university? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:25 You can wear shorts now. You can finally, if that was the main thing stopping you from attending a Mormon university in the United States, this should be great news for you. Go get your $8 and then join the B-Wavee. Take those $8, yeah, down to it, down to the shops. Buy yourself a sweet pair of rip-col board shorts. Not too sloppy, mind. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:54 No, they're got to be the tidiest rip-col board shorts that you can get. Well, I think that that's been an episode of the podcast. Buntavista. Dave, do you want to tell tell t t to tell thah thu want tha thu to thu thu to the the to to to to to to to to to the to to to to the to to their to the podcast. Buntavista. Starting point is 01:08:14 Thank you, Andrew. We went for that wonderful ringing testimony. Fuck. I'm going to edit all of that so it sounds like I said it seamlessly for the record. And then I was really weird, weird about it after. Yeah, you were really weird about it after. Yeah, you can find jump light odyssey on Steam, we're in early access, which means that you can get a little bit cheaper now because we're still building the game, fixing bugs. You could be part of that and it's going to come out in console and steam deck later next year.
Starting point is 01:08:45 And I also got my own podcast, which if you want to hear nerds, nerds, many of whom have been on this podcast, play Dungeons and Dragons, then you can find that under Dragon Friends on some app, I imagine. Excellent. So yeah, I did see that it would be coming out on PS5, which is when I will be playing it. Likewise. It's, yeah, we're working on the console porting as we speak. It turns out it's really hard.
Starting point is 01:09:13 How people do it, honestly, when you see those things where it's like, this game will be out for, yeah, Steam deck, PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and they've just got the whole range, and I'm like, baffling. It's crazy. You're working really hard at that. That sounds like a lot of work. And nobody will ever, you'll never make everyone happy. We've gotten messages from people being like, so you said that this is coming out on all platforms, but I noticed there's no plans for Linux. For no plans for Linux.
