Starting point is 00:00:24 I sexually get off on it. Hello and welcome to Bonte Vista. This is episode 450. I am Ben and I have a gun and I'm pointing it at Lucy's head. Lucy, what does Stuba mean? What does what mean? What does Stuba mean? With a B?
Starting point is 00:00:40 What does Stuba? Lucy, the movie Stuba. What the fuck does Stuba mean right now? Tell me what Stuba means. What are you saying to me? Stubor. Kamele Nangiani, Dave Bistair. Kamele Nangi Nogianni?
Starting point is 00:00:53 Stubber. What is Stubes? short for? He's the big, oh, fuck. What does Stuba mean right now? Tell me, you have five seconds to tell me what Stubber is. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Blam! Theo, I'm putting a gun at your head. What is Stuber mean? What is Stuber short for? Right now. Tell me. It's a portmanteau. It's a portmanteau?
Starting point is 00:01:15 It's a portmanteau. It's a portmanteau of Uber and something. Something in Uber. Uber? Uber? Yeah, Uber. Like the ride chair out. Stealing Uber?
Starting point is 00:01:23 Stots and Uber. Stoats and Uber Wrong! Blam! Stupid Uber? No, although that is kind of, that feels like that would have been what they were going for. It is a portmanteau of stew and Uber, but not like food, like the guy's stew, as the Americans would say. That's the name of Kamail Nany's character.
Starting point is 00:01:43 And so it's his Stuba. He's an Uber driver. He's called Stu and so the movie is called Stubber. Stuba. Stuba. Do you guys remember Stuber? And Kameel? I do remember this.
Starting point is 00:01:55 Have you watched it? Have you watched it? No. Did you watch this last night? Is that what's going on here? No, I did think of it last night. But Dave just used to be. Stuber just came to your mind.
Starting point is 00:02:04 I remembered Stuber. And then I was like, fuck, what was Stuber short for? Yeah. And I had to look that up. Dick looked like a stuber. What? Yeah. Like a stupid tuba.
Starting point is 00:02:19 It was actually kind of funny because immediately after I started thinking about Stuber yesterday, something kind of crazy happened to me and I'll tell you about it in anecdotally wild Welcome to yet another totally wild episode Holy shit
Starting point is 00:02:50 Eco Ouse is in Stuba I don't know who that is Theo you know the guy from the raid Which one? The guy? The less cool looking of the two main guys that are the guys from the raid No I don't remember him
Starting point is 00:03:05 Yeah he's in Stoombe So if you want to see... You guys want to get together later and watch Stuba? Oh, we should hang out tonight. I mean, look at this cast. Camauanajani. Dave Batista, Eco Oasis, Natalie, Natalie Morales, Betty Gilpin, Jimmy Tatro, Mirosavino, Karen Gellon. Jimmy Tatro?
Starting point is 00:03:23 Huge cast. Who have we got in the supporting roles, if those are your top line name? Steve Howley, Armand Joseph, Scott Lawrence, Aaron Sheridan, Melody Peng. Aaron Sherrod? I don't know who that is. I don't know who. any of these fucking people are. PLK's TMT, Kanova Stroker, is Pico the dog?
Starting point is 00:03:42 Oh. Okay. Is that? Watch the raid instead. Is that the name of a dog? Is that a dog's name? I've clicked on the link that's for the citation in the Wikipedia article saying that this particular canine was in there. And here is the first bit of text that greets you when you click on the link.
Starting point is 00:04:06 A, B, K-C-C-H-U-W-P-V-V-J-N-I-N-C-U-W-P-C-H-U-O-1-G-R-C-H, PLK, T-MT-MT-O-E-R-C-R-C-H-E-L-K-E-K-A-R-M-E-S-E-A-W-E-C-A-R-M-E-S-A-W-A-W-A-M-A-M-U-S-A-W-E-E-L-A-W-A-W-E. Movie casting in, thank you for your service, coming out 2017. Is the dog named like an Elon Musk child? Is that what I'm understanding here? I guess his full legal name is PLK's TMT's Casanova. PLK's TMT, Cassanova's Stroker. Mm-hmm. But they call him Stoker.
Starting point is 00:04:47 Stoker? Stoker. They're using both in here. What happened to Fido? Yeah, what happened to Bud? Sandy. Bud and like generic like names that are like guy in America would call another man he doesn't know great names for a dog
Starting point is 00:05:03 Bud champ friend What's a dog's called friend Friend is a nice dog name Friend come over here put that toddler down Yesterday I was driving over to kangaroo point To park my car to walk down to the against the grain music festival Which was really good And then I had an incident occur to me
Starting point is 00:05:24 and it was one of those things I keep seeing viral clips of. And it happened to me. Theo, do you know, okay, you're on the Riverside Expressway. Yes. And you're heading south towards the Gold Coast. It turns into the M1. Yes. You take the Volcher Street exit to go towards, let's say.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Yeah, to go towards the hospitals there. Go towards like the Gabba. Yep. Yep. You know, and then you're on Vulture Street. Fulter Street intersects with Main Street, which is the one that goes up Kangaroo Point, right? Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:01 So as you're going towards it, on the other side of that intersection, there is, on the left, the German club, on the right, the gamma. Probably Brisbane's worst intersection, because the M1 deposits you on the far right lane, and it's four lanes wide, one direction. And if you need to turn left on the main street, you're trying to madly merge all the way across to the far left lane while the rest of the traffic is also trying to madly merge all the way across
Starting point is 00:06:28 to turn right onto Man Street. We can all agree Brisbane's worst designed intersection. Yeah, I mean I feel it's subjective because as a South Sider it's just one of the pains that I never have to kind of submit myself too. Because you never cross the river. I'm going northbound to hit Vulture Street. And that's a dream run.
Starting point is 00:06:48 What if you had to go the other way? What if you had to return? I don't understand. Car sales be saying shit like northbound. What are you mean? I'm traveling northbound. That's awesome. Does that sound great? I would never say that walking.
Starting point is 00:07:01 My fate lies northbound. I'm northbound a foot currently. I'll be there in 10 minutes. Oh, I'm just northbound a foot. Northbound a car. Oh, order my beer for me. I'm on this horrible fucking place, in that horrible place, trying to get across the left.
Starting point is 00:07:17 It's not happening. Traffic's backed up. Whatever. I remain cool, calm and collected. I know you can go up. to Wellington Road or whatever it's fucking is. Turn left up there,
Starting point is 00:07:26 cycle back ramp. Doesn't matter. And then all of a sudden, a little kid on one of those e-dirt bike kind of comes up to my right. I'm like, oh, dude,
Starting point is 00:07:34 you shouldn't be on the road. That's unsafe. And then in the course of the next two minutes, 50 more of them come up on the road, weaving around the traffic, doing wheelies and shit. It was a bike gang of teens. EBMs bandits?
Starting point is 00:07:46 This is the future that we live in now. Have you seen all of the like boomer bait videos where they're like roving gangs of e-dirt bikes have taken over the roads. I've never seen this. It's happening. It's real. I saw a dirt bike. It happened to me.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Were they trying to intimidate me? It seemed like it came from nowhere, right? I don't know if they were trying to intimidate me. I think they were trying to make, trying to look cool. Were they dragging pipes along the ground, like just the tip of the pipe as they rode? Pipes, chains. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:15 I'm swelling some chains around. Handheld bombs. It's like they're all dressed all in black. They're wearing like motorcross helmets and stuff. And like, you're doing wheelies and whatever. And I'm like, oh, God, kids, this is stupid. One of these is going to get hurt. But, you know, I'm a safe responsible driver.
Starting point is 00:08:31 I slow right down. I make no unpredictable movements because I'm like, I just don't want to hit one of these kids that really ruined the music festival for me. And then trailing right at the back of the group, like second to third last of the pack, there's a guy in a banana costume. Like, okay. Didn't get the memo about the dress. code for the E dirt bike gang.
Starting point is 00:08:54 But then trailing at the very, very, very, very pack, the back of the pack, the last guy, the vanguard, wait, no, the rear guard, if you will, is a guy on a regular, like regular push bike. Like, not even like a cool mountain bike or a BMX. He's just on like an 18 speed giant like whatever. That's sick. Just pedaling like fuck, try to keep up with his 49 friends that are all on dirt bikes. No, no, I can do it. I can do it. I'll just bring my bike.
Starting point is 00:09:23 Because all the dirt bikes, they've made space for the cyclist in what would otherwise be like a fucking nightmare to navigate, right? Getting across there, doing whatever you've got to do? You couldn't. You simply wouldn't. There's no fucking way. And were the kids on bikes wearing kind of masks that might identify, like some sort of theme like they might have been like from the clown gang? You're thinking perhaps the start of Akira was maybe happening to me. More often than not. That happened my friend, dude. Watching Akira
Starting point is 00:09:52 That happened to my friend That happened to my buddy actually Oh, you ran into a psychic kid Yeah, it was a bused's Soku gang or whatever Fuck, yeah It was just Tets a word
Starting point is 00:10:03 It was crazy Someone's gonna get hurt I feel a million years old But I keep seeing shit like this And then seeing it in person And be like, oh my God One of you is gonna absolutely While we're on the topic
Starting point is 00:10:15 I'm like, Oh my norms If I nearly get hit by a fucking a pair of teenage boys co-riding an e-scooter on the footpaths together. We should be able to kill them. I'm kicking them off. You're going to have a bumper sticker for your kid that's like Harrison 2010 to 26, gone too soon. 16 forever. He got putting to strip attention.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Harrison's being 16 forever. It's too fast. Get off the roads. We need to make the, get off the sidewalk. We need to make the road safe teenagers. Yeah. Put the teenagers on the road. We don't, alright.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Footpath are for walking. We can't put them on the footpath. We can't put them on the road. I also kind of don't want them in the bike lanes because they're going too fast for fucking bike lanes. We need the teen lane that's just for teens. It's just for teens. Put together a whole teen system. And then, you know, we only have to run it between the sort of the hot spots of teen activity.
Starting point is 00:11:10 Where do teens go? The malt shop, the bowling alley. So between the malt shop and the bowling alley. The ice skate rink down in Runcorn. Yeah, or up in Bundle. Or up in Bundle. It just goes from Bundle to the Malt Shop. Yeah, I'm uninterrupted from Bundle to run corn by the Malt Shop.
Starting point is 00:11:30 It's 30 kilometres of bike bath that goes from Ice World to Malt Shop to Ice World. See? Like, I don't, I want kids to be able to be kids. I just want, I want them to be able to come home to their parents. That's what I want. I don't want them to get hurt. I think like the Pop Boys will feel like they're not being, kind of taken care of there
Starting point is 00:11:51 but I think it's to the Malk shop. Yeah, Soda Jerks, if they're not getting to the pop store. Okay, we're going to have to integrate the... What do you call the place where the soda jerk works? It's not just... Does the soda jerk work at the Malt Shop? Is it the Malt Shop? I think the Malt Shop also has a soda jerk, I think.
Starting point is 00:12:09 Maybe. I don't know. All I know is there's a guy with one of those caps that's like a paper hat in the shape of a naval dress hat. Yeah. And he's... He's making the pop to go. He's pulling the mults.
Starting point is 00:12:23 He's pulling the mults. He's pulling all of it. Even if they're different people, like, they've got a lot of overlap in the shared popcorn machine. Yeah. You know the big old-timey popcorn machine? Yeah. You can see through the sides. It's sort of overflowing with popcorn.
Starting point is 00:12:38 Yeah. Which is also quite similar to the modern popcorn machine as well. Not a lot of technology trends in popcorn. I wonder, actually. Can we advance this any first? With AI? Can we? Can we personally advance popcorn machine tech any further with AI?
Starting point is 00:12:56 Like, once you've kind of got your frying oil temperature correct, your fullness sensor, that's probably changed. Yeah, more reliable. There's probably a float switch in the popcorn. I want AI to look at me and tell me how much popcorn I want. That's a good use of AI. You know, I'm always getting too much. Because it doesn't make a difference. It's like a $1 more for a medium.
Starting point is 00:13:21 One dollar more for a large. I'm getting the large. I don't want that. I didn't need it. Yeah. Like trends on your account show that. You're dropping the last one third of that box into the bin on the way out of the movies. I don't think I've ever dumped a portion of the popcorn.
Starting point is 00:13:39 Even if I didn't want it, I'm finishing the popcorn because it's in my hand. And the movie's two or a half hours long. I'm like those birds that will explode if they eat too much grain or whatever. right? Yeah. I'm going to pop. Yeah. I also need clarity of sizes.
Starting point is 00:13:54 You know when some places they'll just have an array, they will show you physically what the boxes are like. We need transparency in that. You need predictability. You need to know what is that you're getting.
Starting point is 00:14:05 No ambiguity. Yes. Yeah. I think they should also give me, I want two numbers. I want the ratio of the price of the popcorn.
Starting point is 00:14:18 Yes. size to the size beneath it and then beneath that the ratio the number that's the ratio of the volume of popcorn to the size beneath it. That's probably way smarter than the thing that I'm saying. Oh, price per gram, yeah. But this is why we talk through these ideas. You know, I think you've, while your idea may not have been like practical in real life, brainstorming has led us all to something that I think we can agree on.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Yeah. Price per gram. We should kind of universalize price per gram for everything. It was relatively recent in our history that we made it so that supermarkets had to advertise price per gram on the price tickets. Yeah, that's new, right? That's newish. And that's awesome. You feel like you're seeing like the hidden structures that underpin the entire world or you're like, oh my God. Can't get fooled. Those 50 gram packets. Can't get that shit past me. Why would I ever buy one twigie stick? There's weaving through, woven through, whatever. You can't just give up
Starting point is 00:15:21 because one word was mispronounced. You can say it again and they just keep going. No, I feel like I've been punished enough. I won't say anything anymore. I guess I just won't talk for the rest of them. But this wasn't funny enough. None of us were going to be like, he said we've been. It's got to be wrong and funny.
Starting point is 00:15:36 It's no leg bichael, you know. Is that wrong? How do we say? No, that's correct. I think that was correct. I read a new story today about like, like, Bacar. Like Lauren Bacal?
Starting point is 00:15:48 just laughing at the name like Bichael. It's very funny to hear a man to say Lake Bichael in the same internet five times row. And getting zero uptake. We'd mentally moved on. Very significant lake. What did I learn about Lake Bichael today? Lake Bichael's in the news. It's got the largest volume of fresh water.
Starting point is 00:16:10 It does. It is the largest. It is the largest. Fresh water lake, I believe. Fresh of the earth's fresh water water is in Lake. What the fuck did you? him so bad when you clearly kept like a working knowledge of
Starting point is 00:16:22 because it's funny. Because he said it funny. I don't know what it is. Oh, they found evidence of the world's oldest plague outbreak at Lake. How are we saying that? I don't know what I'm saying it wrong. By Carl. By Carl. By Carl. Lake. Did Lettie make one?
Starting point is 00:16:41 That's just good old That's really good. Lazy as shit jokes. God. If you've got an opinion on the pronunciation of Lake Whatever, you could write into us on the Buttevista hotline. I guess you could write it down and then phone us. Now wherever our hotline is supposed to work. It's time for the Buntivista Hotline.
Starting point is 00:17:00 1-800-3-175-15. That's the Boutter Vista Hotline. 1-8003-1-7-5-15. That's the Bout-Vista Hotline. You can send us an email Mailbag at Portavista.com Maybe DM us on Twitter
Starting point is 00:17:22 You could even message Facebook But we don't really check the Facebook Yeah 800317515 That's the Punta Vista hotline 1 800317515 That's the Booter Vista hotline This comes from a listener
Starting point is 00:17:46 who has chosen to remain anonymous. They've chosen to remain anonymous from the first half of email, which I'm actually not going to read out. Maybe it was beautiful and very interesting, but maybe a little dense for our simple listeners. But it was, again, about superventricular tachycardia, which we've been talking about the different ways that you can reset the human heart rate with vagal stimulation.
Starting point is 00:18:15 by dunking a baby. Yes. Now, please abolish the thought of a baby from your mind when I get to the next part because apparently you can also do that same reset with rectal stimulation. You can reset your vagus nerve? Is that what we're talking about? I think if you feel yourself having superventricular tachycardia, just put a finger up your ass.
Starting point is 00:18:36 Hell, if you're bored on a Friday night. You probably reset a lot. Like depression, you're in a bad mood. Well, it gets rid of pickups. It gets rid of pickups. Oh, okay. All right. Plus, they sort of win-win, right?
Starting point is 00:18:48 Putting your finger up your ass and get rid of hiccups? Probably. I feel like someone's going to surprise you, though. It was on QI. It was on QI and, you know, Stephen, what's his name? Stephen Fry? Stephen Fry said it kind of in his voice, which kind of makes you think that it's true, but you're just kind of being tricked into it. He's just got a fancy accent.
Starting point is 00:19:09 He's just kind of learned to talk in a way that makes him seem very authoritative and winsical. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This is the second half of their email. The bonus episode, Mr. Beath Teeth in Ibiza, made mention of people throwing away vapes with their lithium ion batteries into regular rubbish bins where they simply love to catch fire. This is one of my bug bears. I don't like kids on e-dirt bikes on the road and I don't like people having single-use vapes and throwing them into...
Starting point is 00:19:36 I don't like waste. Yeah. I don't mind some waste. Some waste is fine. Some waste is good? It's the waste that I think is uncool as well as the way I really take a stand. Like uncouth waste. Do you take it to like office works or something?
Starting point is 00:19:50 Yeah, we went to office works the other day to get rid of some batteries and they didn't have the battery recycling. They didn't have a battery one? They've got so many bins, but no battery bins? Yeah. A wall of bins and nothing for batteries. Yeah. Office works, barely. Wish it did.
Starting point is 00:20:08 Yeah. After COVID. obviously no one shouldn't vape for unbelievably many reasons yeah obviously no one shouldn't vape no one shouldn't vape no one shouldn't vape no one shouldn't vape yeah i agree everyone should be vaping uh i say this as a health professional and as an ashamed former vapist it's bad for you and the environment didn't hit the ear nicely don't yeah i've tried to avoid saying that one on the podcast uh do you know vapour is much better yeah i mean
Starting point is 00:20:41 Yeah. It's bad for you and the environment and the Congolese children forced to mine rare earth metals. And worst of all, it's not even cunty like smoking illegal Chinese cigarette is. Correct. Bin Zayan. It's not Cunty. It's not Cunty. No, it's not given anything.
Starting point is 00:20:58 It's literally giving nothing except, you know. Yeah, e-waste. I'm going to say it. I think it's chuguey. I think it's chugiform. Yeah. But it is chugiform, but it's practiced by the non-chugi. By non-chugie.
Starting point is 00:21:11 but I feel like the act of doing it is chugy. Yeah. It's just like you look bad while you're doing it. No one looks hot vaping. There's nothing like, you know, in movies from like the 40s through the 60s, you'd have a woman smoking that was kind of scandalous because it was still kind of like, oh, this is mostly a thing for men or whatever. But there's also something like there's an oral fixation.
Starting point is 00:21:36 There's an oral fixation about, yeah. You're drawing attention to the lips. There's something vaguely fall. psychologically suggestive about the whole thing. And there's also the kind of the feeling that this is, um, that it's wrong on, on some of them,
Starting point is 00:21:50 right? Like that it's, that it's, that it's, that it's damaging, um, but, you know,
Starting point is 00:21:56 they're doing it anyway. It's just something like the focus that comes into someone's face when they're using a cigarette looks sexier than someone, that something happens to the human face when it's vaping. To me, vaping gives me the same vibe as when a cat takes a shit. Yes. Like they're doing it because needs must.
Starting point is 00:22:14 They're forced to. And they wish they didn't have to. Yeah, you can tell when it's shameful. You can tell when someone's like sneaking one inside a bar or something. They have to hide it, right? They're doing it at the side of their mouths. They've got the masturbator's posture. They do have a masturbator's posture.
Starting point is 00:22:29 And also because it's a thing of constant gratification, not delayed gratification. Yeah. There's no element. You've ever seen someone just like walk out of a situation, hit the vapor, but they're just going, oh. Like the tension is washing away from them. Never fucking happen. They always just go fucking dead-eyed while they're scrolling their fun.
Starting point is 00:22:49 You look dumb while you're doing it, okay? Start smoking. Chinese cigarettes. That's right. Put a Chinese cigarette in your mouth. To my point, a dear friend of mine is in charge of waste collection logistics for a large Australian city council. So flaming garbage sparked by spent vapes plagues their existence.
Starting point is 00:23:10 That sucks. It's so bad. Like, this is just such a, like, there are so many things that are wrong with it and it sucks. Like, it just looks bad. It's the perfect storm. The way it's question guys and girls, they've got enough to deal with by like the, the juice that sits at the bottom of the bag. To me, that's like a full day's work, right? That's going to take up my whole kind of world is just dealing with the juice.
Starting point is 00:23:35 Yep. You're going to, now the juice is on fire? Can we have some sort of McDonald's? mechanical solution for decanting the juice from the rubbish before putting the rubbish in the bin. Yeah, like it gives it a big squeeze. Yeah. Takes it down a pipe somewhere.
Starting point is 00:23:51 You know the salad spinners? What about like a... Just get a salad spinner? Yeah. The rose spinner. Garbage trucks catch fire due to discarded vapes often enough that an industry-specific term has emerged to describe this phenomenon. So this is good because this is the sort of shit.
Starting point is 00:24:10 that this podcast is about is we want to get in on like leading edge inside of industry stuff. So you guys learn about it. That term is hot load. It is not. No, it isn't. As in quote, Bindale will have to be moved back in suburb X, Y, Z next week as one of the trucks is out of commission after taking one too many hot loads.
Starting point is 00:24:32 Taking a hot load. It sucks being out of commission after one too many. Got a hot load in the back. You don't realize until there's just been like one too many, you know. thoughts and prayers to any at all waste management professionals forced to maintain their professionalism while discussing the ongoing problem of excessive hot loads with their local government officials.
Starting point is 00:24:50 You are truly our braver soldiers and I wish you all the future in which you never have to refuse any loads for being too hot. That's beautiful. Thank you. Very poetic. What an incredible email and beautifully written. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:25:02 Beautifully written. Are we believing that it's called hot load? Not even for a single second did a sliver of doubt enter into my mind. I believe this to be 100% fucking true and I don't even... I'm going to choose to believe it. I don't think how listeners are capable of lying to us.
Starting point is 00:25:18 I'm googling it later. I'm not looking for the stuff about the rubbish bits. I've read it because I'm not signing up for I'm not putting my age and my ID into anything. What am we going to do? Am I fucking crazy? Lord, no. Insane. I want to see what the uptake on VPN's
Starting point is 00:25:32 has been in the last. How long have we been pornless in this country now? Six months? Is it that long? Is it that long? five years. Wow. I can't remember the last time I saw a Milt.
Starting point is 00:25:44 I mean, I've seen Mills in public, just the last time I saw it, Milf on the internet, yeah. Yeah. I reckon VPN must, NordVPN must be laughing all the way to the Bank of Norway. Yeah. Wherever it is they go.
Starting point is 00:25:57 I think they, but then they've got to take that money straight back out, right? Hand it to the influencers. What are the influencers doing? Well, they're influencing people to get more VPN to put it on the, to put it on your lips, put the words NordVPN and associate that with, you know, getting your
Starting point is 00:26:15 porn or whatever. Is this what's in your algorithm is influencers selling VPNs? Oh yeah. For like five years, for like going on five years now. YouTubeers and podcasters love to tell you about Nord VPN. Yeah. In my experience. You respect your privacy.
Starting point is 00:26:30 I'm going to say, I've never had a VPN. It seems like a lot of work and I'm quite lazy. Yeah. Seems like a lot of steps. Not important. It's all right. I'll get you a Mulvad referral code. How much does that knock off the price? How much we talk?
Starting point is 00:26:44 We shouldn't be. This is free advertising for VPNs, which is actually maybe one of the only things we can get paid for. Oh boy. Hey, I bet people have put their thoughts out about the porn ban in Australia in posts. We talk about posts in we'll fixate on post. Still going to make a theme for that one, but we'll fixate on post. Fixate on post.
Starting point is 00:27:12 Kind of like we'll fix it in post. We'll fix it in post. We'll fix it on post. Fix that on post. Fixed that. Okay. Well, I thought of it this morning. I think I understand the reference like 10 times better than I understand what the segment is.
Starting point is 00:27:26 It's about a post. I talk about a post that I've seen. A post online. Okay. Yeah. Fixed on post. Yeah. This is a post in the Facebook group Trip Hop Lovers.
Starting point is 00:27:37 Mm-hmm. For fans of the genre. Real mixed bag, I think. Yeah. They're having a big revival right now. people love trip hop. I mean, why wouldn't it? It goes with vaping, I guess.
Starting point is 00:27:48 Trip hop and vaping? True. True. That's sexy. It's not sexy. It's not. The post is styled in. I don't really understand what this is, but years ago, Facebook added the option to,
Starting point is 00:28:01 you choose a background picture, and then you can sort of put your emoji or bit, yeah, your emoji or whatever, doing something in the foreground and it makes the text big. Yeah, and it's like my uncle. died. Yeah, and someone's making the like winky tongue out face. Yeah. And it's your nan. So someone, the emoji is a guy in a hoodie.
Starting point is 00:28:24 He's holding a rose up to his face and he's smelling the rose, eyes closed, sort of rapturous, blissful expression on his face. The post reads, I can't believe I'm in this group for only six days and yet made so many discoveries, shares and chats that it feels like a year. That's just nice. That's nice. Which is lovely. This person is so rapturous at the stuff that they've found in the Facebook group Trip Hop Lovers
Starting point is 00:28:51 that they're posting a picture of themselves, smelling a beautiful rose. What are they finding? What are you finding in six days in Trip Hop lovers? More Trip Hop, I presume. I kind of thought there were like five trip hop bands. The ones that I've been listening to since I was 17. Turns out 10. 10.
Starting point is 00:29:08 And then there's also like there's like Tricky went and did his own thing after massive attack quite good the like porters head various like you've got them all doing their individual things making soundtracks
Starting point is 00:29:25 making solo albums yeah um uncle's still going I think well uncle's bad now the moment DJ Shadow left uncle no good yeah that's just what's his name
Starting point is 00:29:39 James Lavelle James Lavell fuck that guy my homies hate. DJ Shadow, still going. Yeah, I saw him last year in public. I walked up to him and I said, hey, thank you. Thank you for all those samples.
Starting point is 00:29:51 And he said, there weren't mine. There is a name on that. No one will be mad at you for using them. That post was written by an individual name, Francois de Kock. Thank you, Francois. I'm so glad you're having all of these beautiful experiences. Mr. DeKock. Mr. DeKock.
Starting point is 00:30:09 Monsois de Kock. Please. Mr. Kock was my. father. Decoq, that sounds kind of Dutch. We discussed the Dutch in Netherlands Quarter. Help me, buddy.
Starting point is 00:30:23 I'm from Holland. Isn't that beer? And of course, sneaker pimps. Who could forget? This is from the NL Times. Peanut Butterfloor returns to Rotterdam Museum as tribute to WimT-Shippers. Peanut Butterfloor? Beterfloor.
Starting point is 00:30:42 Wim-T-shipers. That's right. Wim-T-shippers. Wim-T-shipers. Wim-T-shipers? Vim? Are we saying Vim? Probably V-T. I don't actually...
Starting point is 00:30:52 Vim-T-ship. I thought Dutch people made a WV distinction because they use the V, unlike in German... You're right, they do have the V-Shipers. But maybe Vim T-Sippers is German. There's no way of... How high is the Dutch?
Starting point is 00:31:07 Do you think for Vim T-Shibers? Is that low Dutch or high Dutch? I think it's low Dutch. Low Dutch, okay. Yeah, it was from Grown... What does that make us? Deeply low-Let. actually his name is Willem, so I think it might be Wim.
Starting point is 00:31:17 Could be villain. I don't think it is, this is good stuff. Sentence one. Peanut Butterfloor. Peanut Butterfloor. We're not even had Sentence One. We're at the headline. I count that. Wimty Shippers' Peanut Butterfloor will return to the Boyman's Van Boenigan Museum in front of them next month as a tribute to its creator who passed away last week at the age of 83.
Starting point is 00:31:40 Joke language. Joke language. Very silly. The museum considers it a fitting way to honour the artist and voice actor. Shippers considered art just as nonsensical as life itself, the museum said. It doesn't have to make sense, but it is always worthwhile. Yeah, I guess so. Maybe.
Starting point is 00:32:01 I mean, I don't know. I see blue poles. That shit sucks. Are you one of those like we wasted our taxpayer money on blue poles people? That's your big issue. we never should have bought blue poles. We went there on school camp in grade 6 and I was like, that was gay. It's very big.
Starting point is 00:32:23 I didn't anticipate how big blue poles would be. It's quite large. It's huge. I don't know. Australia bought a Jackson Pollock painting. That's what this is. That's in our national gallery. It's really expensive.
Starting point is 00:32:39 A bunch of people were really mad that we spent the money on a Jackson Pollock painting. We invested in Quebe, so, you know, we've spent money on stupidest stuff. Quote, we're going to miss Wim T. Wow, you're going by first name, middle name initial? Wim T? Wim T, okay. We're going to miss Wim T enormously for his individuality, versatility, humor, and ability to put things into perspective, said Sandra Kister's acting director of Museum
Starting point is 00:33:09 Boyman's Van Boenigan. for art. For him, art was meant to make people think, but never in an overly serious or melancholic way. It's not without reason that he called his work of a floating stone. It is quite something. And so it is. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Yeah. I think that's scads. His peanut butter artwork, consisting of peanut butter from a brand of your choice, masoned into a framework of any size, was first exhibited in a gallery in 1969 and was acquired by the Rotterdam Museum in 2010. In that edition,
Starting point is 00:33:40 has spread hundreds of kilograms of peanut butter carefully over three days to create a sleek, even floor. So he's like someone laying concrete or whatever. It's legitimately a peanut butter floor. He's using masonry tools to like smooth it over into a smooth floor. Well, I mean, it's already firm. I think it would just, it wouldn't go hard. You wouldn't be able to walk on it.
Starting point is 00:34:03 Oh, it's just to look at. No, you're not allowed to walk on it. I don't believe it's a floor if you can't walk on it. Oh, okay. I don't believe in an untrodden floor. Okay. What do you call the thing that covers the ground? It puts a different kind of surface.
Starting point is 00:34:18 Interesting. So if there's like, let's say there's a room in a historical building that has antique parketry in it and you're not allowed to walk on it. Is it no longer the floor? But that floor has been trod in the past. Because it was trod. What if it was made with the intention of being trodden on, but due to, to a, they found out it was made of a poisonous substance, no one's allowed to tread on it. So before it ever got to be trod, it was banned from treading.
Starting point is 00:34:50 I just think you, I just think you should be able to walk on the peanut butter, like maybe barefoot. Yeah. I bet that would feel so good. Oh, actually, yeah. I bet they feel really nice. Be like wearing orthopedic sandals, without having to wear sandals. Unless it was crunchy, I don't know. Oh, I don't.
Starting point is 00:35:09 think he gets into that. In recent months, the museum works at Shippers on agreements regarding the execution of his work. Quote, it may be executed in any geometric shape, but with peanut butter without chunks, and above all, it must be easily spreadable, the museum said. So smooth. I guess. He's got his preference. I'm a crunchy peanut butter man myself.
Starting point is 00:35:29 I want to taste the peanuts. I want crunchy. Really? I want to know there's a peanuts in my mouth. What the new edition will look like and when the exhibit will start is not yet certain. Quote, given the idea behind his work to show something differently every time, it is illogical to create exactly the same work. Spokesperson for the museum told Ryanmond, we are discussing it a lot.
Starting point is 00:35:50 How are you going to make the same peanut butter floor? You can't do different places. You can't make the same peanut butter floor twice. No. Yes. I'm looking at the peanut butter floor. It's fucking stupid. Wow.
Starting point is 00:36:03 This man is recently deceased and you're hating on the peanut butter floor. I bet he's listed. I bet he's here in this right now. Wim-T-shippers, that is stupid. All right, let me look at this peanut butter floor. Okay. Wait, no, people are walking in it. They're walking in it?
Starting point is 00:36:19 There are footprints in it. There are footprints in it. Or are these part of the artwork, the two footprints? Maybe that's part of the, there's just two footprints in it. To make it clear that it's made of, this really is just a slab of peanut butter on the ground. Yeah, it's not an entire room either. It's kind of like a section of a room. It doesn't make you think, though.
Starting point is 00:36:38 a rectangle. What does it make you think about? Well, you know. Maybe I'm just kind of stupid and I just kind of don't get it. You will because you're very little. Lucy, what about the room in Mona that we kind of, it's like full of motor oil up to like your shoulders. Oh, that one is fucking nuts. It's a nasty room.
Starting point is 00:37:04 I don't think they've still got. I haven't seen that one. Oh, I think it's a permanent one, I think. And it's exactly at like surface tension level. Yeah, they got it right up the top there. It is. And they're very big on being like only one or two people can go in there at a time. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:20 It's, it is a very confronting space to be in. I don't know what it makes me think, but I leave going, wow. You definitely feel uneasy because the oil is so close to sopping over the edge. And it stinks because it's oil. And you can. Motor oil. Are we meant to draw parallels between our relationship, humanity's relationship with oil, or is that it's just, oh, yuck, oils, yuck. Oil yucky.
Starting point is 00:37:45 Imagine if that oil got on me. Yeah. Quick, let's get into the room that shits. Yeah, the room that chits. Just as a pallet, pallet cleanser. There's a pallet cleanser. Let's get to the room that shits. The first time I saw the room that chits, I was so hung over and I was just like, oh, that's great.
Starting point is 00:38:00 I'm going to try and find my way to the fucking bathrooms again. Thanks, guys. Thanks heaps. David Walsh. You gambling, cunt. You little freak. You, Prick.
Starting point is 00:38:13 Shippers was known to the general public primarily for his voice work on Sesame Street where he voiced Ernie, Count von Count and Kermit the Frog. He voiced all three of those on Dutch Sesame Street? Dutch Sesame Street. I think it was probably American Sesame Street with a Dutch dub.
Starting point is 00:38:31 Yeah, that makes sense. I don't think they had like Sesame Strasser or whatever the fuck. like strand. The Netherlands. That's a country. But it's not the only country. Well, actually, is it?
Starting point is 00:38:43 Or is the country just part of the kingdom? No. Yes. The Netherlands is the kingdom of the Netherlands. The Netherlands is part of the kingdom of the Netherlands. Is it just not called Holland? This is no good. Holland is not the whole.
Starting point is 00:38:55 That doesn't matter. Not good. We also talk about America in America Watch. America Holland isn't the whole thing It's just like a bit on the edge Holland is a subset of the Netherlands What?
Starting point is 00:39:21 The Netherlands is a super set It's just a bit on the side What? And if you're foreign and you think we sound stupid Point out Brisbane on a map Go on Yeah no it's only a little part of it We're so fucking stupid
Starting point is 00:39:35 We've been talking about this country now for like 20 years Yeah Have it a thing We're not stupid Tell me where Jarvis Bay is on a map Point out where Jarvis Bay. Yeah, and what's special about it? What's special about Jarvis Bay?
Starting point is 00:39:47 Oh, I found out a fun fact the other day on another podcast is that Melbourne and Tasmania, sorry, Victoria and Tasmania have joint custody of an island. Is it French Island? King Island? King Island? King Island, where the delicious cheese is from? Australia's best smoked cheddar? They've got a half and half.
Starting point is 00:40:10 They've got a half and half? Boundary... Half and half and on an island. Islet. Historically known as Northeast Islet, is in the Hogan Island group of Bass Strait. And yeah, it's split exactly halfway through at the...
Starting point is 00:40:25 They can't decide? 39 degrees 12 second mark, which is the border between Tasmania and Victoria. Oh. Isn't that cool? You could do one of those, like straddling a state border between the island state of Tasmania in Victoria.
Starting point is 00:40:43 Isn't that fun? I got this from the fucking QI podcast where they were just like the fact was that Victoria shares a land border with Tasmania which is a fun little thing to drop on people. Yeah, that's good. It is quite interesting. Okay, shut up.
Starting point is 00:40:57 The one that's just the people that do the research talking to each other, no such thing as a fish, is my like doing the dishes podcast. They're fun people. They're funny people. The facts are interesting. Why are you doing Donald Trump hands?
Starting point is 00:41:10 Why you say this? I've seen fish. They're fun people. It's definitely the normiest thing that I enjoy by a country bar. I've seen fish. It's allowed. No, there's no such thing as them. This is from KOCO.
Starting point is 00:41:23 The TSA has a message for World Cup fans who may have fallen in love with American condiment. Go on. What one? It's ranch. It's got to be ranch. It's going to be ranch. It's ranch. Of course, it's ranch.
Starting point is 00:41:34 We all know it's ranch. I mean, I just knew because I'd seen it. I'm kind of worldly. like that. I've never had ranch. Is any good? Yeah, it's delicious. People like, oh my God, ranch, what's it tastes like? Cramed, right? It's creamy. It's creamy. It's creamy because it's American and that's the only way they know how to live.
Starting point is 00:41:50 World Cup fans have taken the US by storm, with dozens of matches taking place across the country over the next month, and some soccer fans have apparently become fans of American food. Ranch dressing, an iconic American condiment, has apparently become so popular among World Cup fans that the Transportation Security Administration took note issuing guidance for travel.
Starting point is 00:42:08 Objection, that is not a strong causal link. Apparently become so popular because the TSA did a post about it. That doesn't mean shit. That's not fucking rigorous. Quote, are you kicking around the idea of flying home with your favorite dip? TSA wrote in a pun-filled social media post this week. Kill yourself. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:32 Fuck off. I'll go traveling with Ben. You call me your favorite dip? Yeah. I think rude? I'm unsure. If you're traveling within the US, make sure to keep your carry-on sources to 3.4 ounces or less and place any larger containers in your check bags. 3.4 ounces.
Starting point is 00:42:49 Yeah, what a stupid fucking measurement. Dumbus fuck. It's like 100-mill. I think it's 100-mill on the button. It's 100-mill-ish. It's a hundred-mill in the... Okay, so it's a stupid number because they've back-calculated from 100-mill. It's a sensible quantity in normal numbers put into stupid numbers to become a stupid number.
Starting point is 00:43:07 Put into like natural. Yeah. Yeah. Quote, Some heroes wear capes. Others bring ranch. What? What?
Starting point is 00:43:16 Some heroes wear capes. Yeah. Others bring ranch? Sort of the thing that from not all heroes wear capes, you can logically determine that some heroes wear capes. Some do, yeah. I guess both are equally as true. If one is true, then the other must be.
Starting point is 00:43:34 Hmm. And those without capes? Actually, no. Is that, are they necessarily? Because not all heroes wear capes could also mean that no heroes wear capes, right? Yeah, but I think that informally, informally that you would kind of assume that... I think it's implied that if not all, that at least some do. At least some do, yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:55 And that it is like the core of... At least one, I think is implied. But the assumption is that they are going to wear capes, but there is exceptions. Yes. But they could, I'm just saying, they're not... necessarily. You can't completely rigorously insure it one from the other. Yeah, but I think part of kind of communication is understanding the nuance.
Starting point is 00:44:19 Not how I do it. I think if we're going to be literal, it means at least one wears a cape. Interesting. Others bring ranch. So some heroes wear capes. Some of the heroes that don't wear capes bring ranch. Bring ranch. All right.
Starting point is 00:44:34 And then the third group. have neither cape nor ranch neither cape nor ranch their powers were untold neither cape nor ranch TSA also noted the condiments versatility clearly adding to its popularity the world is slowly discovering
Starting point is 00:44:51 I don't feel like it's not your business TSA this is way out of the purview don't editorialize about source you can't bring liquids duh even though we know that it's such a versatile source isn't your purview mostly
Starting point is 00:45:04 just yelling at me for not doing stuff fast enough and for confusing me with changing your rules all the time. Everyone at TSA in Chicago was having a great time when I was there. Really? The vibe was good? It was a great vibe. I got there and the guy was like, you know, if we've got a special scanner there that electrocutes you if you're wearing a Philly Eagle sweatshirt.
Starting point is 00:45:25 I was like, ah, he's like, you want to take it off? And I was like, I'm going to leave it on, buddy. We're laughing. I'll take the shock. That's, man, that's good, that's good gear. That's good gear. Yeah, it was nice. Why would a scare to shock you, though?
Starting point is 00:45:40 You're not threatened me with electrocution at TSA. You're like a war enforcement officer. I don't think you can do that. I don't think you can do this. I have a bomb. I have a bomb. I have a bomb that I'm going to blow up people that don't like the Eagles. We're all having fun.
Starting point is 00:45:57 You've officially disappeared from the country of America. If you shock me, I'll probably explode. Because of the bomb. Because of the bomb. Get down! Yeah, that is, you're only allowed to make those jokes if the person you make the jokes to can make threats of violence back at you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:18 Otherwise, it's asymmetrical. Gone back in time, telling them I'm going to kill him. I'll fucking kill you. We're all having fun. Do I have to take my shoes off still? No? It's a bomb in them. There's a bomb in my shoes.
Starting point is 00:46:35 That's a bomb in my shoes. great, that's a bit of merch we should make. Put to Vista, just the logo and then there's a bobbed in my shoes. And then every time you go through airport security, asking if you have to put your shoes through the scanner. Oh, we don't do that anymore?
Starting point is 00:46:53 Shoes on? We get to leave our shoes on. You never know. They change it. They change it all the time. Back of the shirt says they finally stopped checking. It was one guy. One guy had his bomb components in his shoes. Not even a good bomb. It didn't even work, right?
Starting point is 00:47:11 That bomb didn't do anything. He didn't use it, did he? I don't know. Quote, the world is slowly discovering ranch pairs perfectly with pizza, chicken wings, fries, onion rings, cassidias, crackers, chips, vegetables, and the list just keeps growing. It said in the post. The list keeps growing? The list keeps growing?
Starting point is 00:47:29 What else? They're inventing more foods? There's new thing every day, isn't it? Yes, it seems like it, what with how things are. Yeah, and then for each new thing, you've got to put some ranch on it and mouth it a bit, see if it's any good. Someone has to try it. There's a person at the ranch factory that's just like, oh, these are not synergistic. What's the opposite of synergy?
Starting point is 00:47:49 What's when the combination of two things is worse than it's some? Dinergy, dyscinergy. Yeah. Im synergy. No. It's like milk and lemon juice, right? Malogy. Malogy.
Starting point is 00:48:02 I like malagy. I like malagy. Malagy is nice. New words. We're mixing up some etymology there, but whatever. Probably Greek, Latin. We know all. Greek, Latin. It's all the same.
Starting point is 00:48:14 The countries are so close together. How different can they be? Latvia? Yeah. I want to disagree with the central premise of this article so strongly. I don't think a bunch of like... That ranch is taking off. People from like France and Spain are like, oh my God. This is a great...
Starting point is 00:48:34 There was like one soccer player, right? There was one soccer player. A soccer player was like, oh, I did see this. From the World Tour. The World Tour. The FIFA World Tour. It's taken off. The Tour to Soccer. I just, no one else is like, no European is trying ranch and being like, fuck, these guys have really got this shit figured out.
Starting point is 00:48:56 My wife is going to love this on a bucket. I can't believe we've been cooking shit slowly with care all this time. where we could just be putting the white sauce on it. 100%. Why didn't Jacques Pepin fucking invent ranch? What about what's his name? Chef Cousteau. No, he's the made-up one from Ratatouille.
Starting point is 00:49:16 Marco Pierre White. Marco Pierre White. Bad guy. Why is his name not like Marco Pierre Blanc? Yes. Is he French even? Great question. Is he even French?
Starting point is 00:49:27 Or is he British or something? Who knows? Who's the other guy? Like the big guy that like invented French cuisine. Is that like a mother-sauce guy or something? I have no idea. The guy.
Starting point is 00:49:40 Escofier. Oh, Escoffier. Escoffier. I actually have heard of him. Yeah. Auguste Escoffeif, if you're having it. Yeah, that's good stuff. We don't know who this show appeals to, but it almost certainly doesn't appeal to teens.
Starting point is 00:50:00 We talk about teens in Teen Watch. This is from the Italian press agency A-N-S-A The anagram lover's NASA Sicilian boy 15 is the youngest person in the world with a super memory Super memory Super memory He's a super-rememberer
Starting point is 00:50:25 Yeah he remembers every a super that he's had Oh That's gross Now that's good gear You I don't think I am A 15-year-old Sicilian boy has been tested as... I don't know about boy.
Starting point is 00:50:46 That feels weird. A 15-year-old Sicilian boy has been tested as being the youngest person in the world with a super memory. Meaning he remembers the precise date of everything he's ever done and everything that has ever happened to him. That sounds awful. Yeah, what a curse. What a prison.
Starting point is 00:51:01 It's a curse. Yeah. Eternal sunshine of a spotless mind, dude. This guy's got eternal darkness of the completely whatever. Yeah. Alexander Pope, you know. Michelle Gondry. Michelle Gondry.
Starting point is 00:51:17 The unnamed boy's extraordinary ability is described in the journal Cortex by Valerio Santangelo of the University of Perugia and Patricio. Oh, I thought this was all the name of the university. By Valerio Santagelo of the University of Perugia and Patricia Campalongo of Sanpianza University of Rome. Quote, he's the youngest person in the world identified with hyper. thymisia or autobiographical hypermemory. So it's only about his own life? But that is also the prism through which you experience everything. Wow, that is so true.
Starting point is 00:51:55 Probably extend to everything you've ever experienced. Let's get this kid. See, he's on TV, that's sort of part of his. Yeah. Fuck, dude. One toke. And he's like, what was I talking about again? This will be exactly like the episode of The Good Doctor, where he'd,
Starting point is 00:52:10 It smokes weed once and then stops me and it becomes normal. Yeah. Hey, listen to savant guard. The opposite thing happens to me. Me too, actually. It definitely makes me way, way, way, way worse.
Starting point is 00:52:27 Yeah, I'm like, hey, I need to stop talking or hearing people and lie down right the middle of a room somewhere listening to Radiohead. Oh, man. King of limbs, dude. Yes. Or underrated album, I think, in the Uvra, King of Limbs. Opening three tracks, all...
Starting point is 00:52:47 Yeah, not so great. Amazing, I was going to say. Back half, everything from Lotus Flower onwards, incredible. What a song, what a bad podcasting. This is great. This is cool stuff. Lucy just looked like she was leaving her body entirely. Where did you go, Lucy?
Starting point is 00:53:04 Come back to us. Be here. Where do you always go? We talk about King of Limbs. Hey, I noticed you went somewhere else there, though, see, where was that? It's what I brought up, King of Lins. Do you reckon that exchange has ever happened?
Starting point is 00:53:17 Not two men talking about right her head, obviously, but like someone, the movie line. Where do you always go? Yeah, my therapist. Like, when we get to the end of the, like, the back third of the session, and I'm starting to lose focus. And so she'll be, like, explaining, you know,
Starting point is 00:53:34 hey, you know, you can do this and you can do that. And then she'll be like, um, where are you at like where'd you go just then i was like fuck i was thinking about like work i was thinking about you know all the shit i got to do afterwards sort of i was disassembling an m1 browning in my mind yeah yeah don't even know if that's a real gun don't correct me uh previously there had only been anecdotal reports of hyper memory onset in adolescence but no objective evidence at an early age uh the young mann't even so previously they're not adolescent oh sorry previously they don't
Starting point is 00:54:08 been anecdotal reports. So they had, this is the first like proven, proven one, I guess. Yeah. The young man, the research continues, is a Sicilian boy who is now 15 years old and whom we met and tested two years ago when he was 13. Boy's mother reported the boy's astonishing memory abilities. Mamma Mia. His boy can remember. My boy here remember is so good. He would have believed how good he'll remember. Oh boy. And we basically think of Italians as white people. now, so it's not racist to do any of this. How much is there to remember in Sicily?
Starting point is 00:54:43 Oh, I ate some... I ate a fetidini for dinner. Jesus. Stunned by the Tany of Tekra. I just feel hostile towards this boy. I just feel hostile. Are you jealous? I bet you wish you had hyper memory.
Starting point is 00:54:58 Oh, God, no. You got a pretty good recall. I feel. Good recall. I imagine remembering all your life, though. It really fucks you up. Hey, sometimes I wake up and I'm like, man, I must have got really drunk last night. I don't remember much. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:55:12 wait, I had like one beer last night. And then I had a gummy. Don't remember watching four hours of Jojos. I watch four movies and I can't remember a single thing about them. But I know it felt great. I know it was good. It felt good. Does that really spoke to you? There's like a net positive of like the art you experience while you're too high to remember the art you experience. Do you think the good feelings that it gives you is still a net benefit to you? your life outside of the moment while you're enjoying it?
Starting point is 00:55:41 Absolutely. 100%. I think it lets you know that there is a deeper that there is a deeper connection there that is possible even if you're not feeling it in the moment. God, that's good. When you gave me like one third of a brownie, those are crazy strong, by the way,
Starting point is 00:56:02 because I ate the entire brownie you gave me at Moderat and it was fine. So, you know, it's not kind of like a weird, uncool thing that it's... You're talking about the time that I gave you one, you had to dip early? I had to dip, quote, unquote, early. It was 1.30 in the morning. That doesn't sound right to me. And I went home and I listened to Moon-shaped pool, which is why I was thinking of already heard when you were talking about this.
Starting point is 00:56:25 And it was an album I'd bounced off like a ton of times. And that night is like, oh shit, I'm swimming in this. Yeah. I am like, I am levitating through. these piano notes. And this man's divorce that he's documenting in this album. Yeah, before she died of cancer while he was divorcing her.
Starting point is 00:56:49 But I was picking up all of these details that was in the music that I'd never heard before on previous listens. And when you come out of it, you're going to go, like, yeah, maybe those aren't accessible to me now, but it was real. And it makes me understand that, you know, possibly this is real for,
Starting point is 00:57:06 other people that other people are able to hear these things, you know, naturally, you know, with their own perspective and experience sort of thing. To me, it just deepens my connection to art. That's genuinely so beautiful. And as a counterpoint to that, if this is the house party that I believe it was, after you left, I ended up standing naked in my kitchen throwing up in the sink while they were still like 40 people there. And you had to walk through the kitchen to get to the onsuit, which was the only bathroom that I had at the time. Why were you? I don't want to get into that.
Starting point is 00:57:39 Yeah, okay. Some stuff. Cut that. Yeah. Yeah. On a very specific memory test, the young man was able to recall three very precise and specific types of autobiographical content
Starting point is 00:57:54 for which the researchers were able to verify both the precise. He was doing it to himself? They were able to verify both the precise data. the details such as public events related to his interest, school events, and vacation or travel photos. So I'm credible this. That's a little... Yeah, autobiographical. That's like, like, I can never reach my own memories. It feels like they're just there, like, almost at the tip of my tongue, but I just can't quite reach, like, what it is and say it. It's sort of like, so close, and I kind of practice. Try to remember.
Starting point is 00:58:31 You need to remember. Yeah, autobiographical stuff, yeah. I don't think you need to. I think if you don't remember something, that's fine. If you don't remember most of your childhood, don't worry about it. That's not a problem. I know I'd garble this every time I'm trying to think of it, but I'm pretty sure that like the majority of our memories,
Starting point is 00:58:51 you can't just conjure your memories most of them. Like we can't because I can only think of this in like, computery type terms, but you can't just be like, I want the memory that's at this index in my brain or whatever. They need to be prompted by an external thing that jogs you into recalling them, which is such a weird thought to think that there is this like... Like a what? Madeline, Madeline's how you say it?
Starting point is 00:59:17 The biscuit from Phroust. Oh, like a Proustian Madeline. Yeah, that's right. It's not the same thing. It's not like there's different kinds of biscuits, I think, for different kinds of memories. I think that's what his stuff is mostly about is that if you have a least biscuit, you'll unlock your memories from the. ages of eight to nine.
Starting point is 00:59:36 Yeah. One of those little custard biscuits. Who knows? You can remember. Arrowroot biscuit and you remember playing cricket in your grandma's backyard. Isn't that beautiful? Grandmas love an hour root. I love an arrowroot.
Starting point is 00:59:48 It's barely a sweet. It's not even really. You think you don't want it, but then you're having it and you're like, you know what? This is pretty good. Yeah. And usually I'm not having like arrowroot, the grain is not a big part of my life until you get to the arrowroot biscuit. And then it's the star of the show.
Starting point is 01:00:05 The humble arrowroot. It can be if you want it to be. You dip an arrowroot into a milky tea with two sugars in it? It's basically a cake. Yeah. And you're coming back with less arrowroot than you started with. And that's okay. What is this fucking podcast?
Starting point is 01:00:23 I think this was definitely maybe enough extra time that we can still get a full-length episode out of the podcast. Bonte Vista.
