Starting point is 00:00:05 Buckle-off literature fans. We're in for some boozy bookgasms today. Join three cousins creating a titillating headspace where steamy romance novels collide with strong cocktails. So sit back, sip slow, and enjoy the ride. Welcome to the season finale episode of boozy book gasms. I'm Jen. I'm Ken.
Starting point is 00:00:31 I'm Lynn. Oh my gosh, ladies. We have read 13 books this season. Plus, I would like. credit for another six. If you count the fairy smut. Here we go. We're excited to reflect on the journey with you tonight, but first, Kim, what are we drinking? Ah, the last drink of this season. We're going to have the brandy Alexander, which is a classic
Starting point is 00:00:59 end-of-the-night dessert-style drink, which I thought perfect to celebrate all those sweet, boozy book gosms we had this season. So, some brandy or coniac, little dark crem de cocao. Cacao. I don't know. I always want to call it cocoa. Cacao. Anyway, heavy cream, a little bit of nutmeg.
Starting point is 00:01:16 It's amazing. Listen, we like to drink. We don't know how to pronounce all the words, but we know what they taste like. You can't read it by the end of the night anyway. Who cares? So fair. So as we're gearing up for the next season, is there anything you're planning to read in between while we take a break? I have lots of on my TVR list.
Starting point is 00:01:36 But we do have our family book club. I think we're all reading. I've started it. It is all the broken places by John Boyne. And that's a World War II book. So that'll definitely be a left turn from what. It's a little different. It's a different journey. You know, I have not started it because I read the book jacket. I wish I would just rod these family book club books because I just, I read the book jacket. And I'm like, net pass. Yeah. Yeah. You never know. Every now and then I like a historical fiction. I love The Nightingale, which was World War II by Chris and Hannah. Yeah. So I'm looking forward to this one. What's the one we read about the octopus being alive?
Starting point is 00:02:17 That was a good one, too. Oh, yeah, the beautiful creatures. Oh, that was huge. Yeah. So you never know what you're going to get with our family book clubs. That's true. I do have some old novellas that have been on my list to reread by Katie Robert, K-A-T-E. Oh, I've heard of it.
Starting point is 00:02:34 And she's got these like fours, taboo, and it's like right into the sex. You don't have to like waste a lot of time with the story. Nice. Yeah, why should you? They're very quick. I might reread those just to keep up my boozy bookgasms. I've got some Jade West downloaded for that reason. And then I did.
Starting point is 00:02:50 I stopped by this really cute little bookshop in Minneapolis called Tropes and Trifles. And load it up. I got one of the books we're reading next season. And then also picked up Abby Yemenaz's latest book. say you'll remember me and Megan Quinn's bridesmaid for hire. I got myself a few little trophies, Kim. I might rival your little trophy show. Not possible.
Starting point is 00:03:14 They're all beautiful books. No, I'm not even close. I am excited. I have one of those pictures in my neighborhood, too. Like, they're popping up everywhere. The one in my neighborhood, because I live in the Dallas area, is called Blush. And it's so cute. When it opened a few months ago, there was a line around the block.
Starting point is 00:03:29 I mean, we're not the only people reading these. Oh, this place was. I met the owners. They were lovely. They took some of our swag. So hopefully some other people will find their way to our show. We'll see. I'm going to head up to Denton. I just found one in Denton that's called The Plot Twist that I'm excited about. Not without me. I'm coming with you. I've been to blush and I absolutely loved it. And you're right. Months later I went in there and it was still packed. And I had some great conversations with people. I'm going to take a little bit of a turn. I am actually going to read The Housemate. Ooh. Freedom McFedon. Right. Rita McBadden. Yes.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Yeah. And I also have, I don't want to call it a self-help book, but a good friend of mine, Talfiq, wrote this book and it's called Unlock. And it's about like unlocking your potential in everything you do. So I'm excited about that one too. I have a self-helpie book that I'm reading right now in between things called 4,000 weeks. And it's all about time management and how you should plan your time based on how many weeks you have in your life basically and how it's finite time. So you shouldn't take on everything.
Starting point is 00:04:32 You should be selective. Which is really interesting. And I have it in hard copy because I like to read that when I'm laying out by the pool, like an actual book with pages. Yeah. Same. Trofies. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:43 Yeah. Yeah. Talfeek's book is all about like stop taking the bottom wrong that you accept from people. And it's kind of like, what was that book we read where she dressed for the jobs you wanted? Praise. Yeah. It's the same theory behind it where you do what you want to be. It's pretty good so far.
Starting point is 00:05:01 Awesome. I'm excited about it. Yeah. So look at that. All right. Great. I mean, it's really hard to believe we did 13 episodes this season. I think we did nine, season one, plus the six. Thank you very much. series, Jen, that you did with your friends, The Fairy Smuts. But it's crazy, 27 episodes since we started this thing. Super fun. But if we're just thinking about this season, what was your favorite of the whole season? Chasing the Wild is an easy answer for me. But Paradise Problem is a close second. Oh, interesting. Yes. Yeah. I really love that book. And actually, I've read it twice. And I really, really liked it. Yeah. But you can't be chasing the wild. I mean, everything about that book was
Starting point is 00:05:42 delicious. Getting up all the way. I was in the same boat. I was like, hmm, country western, mountainesque, or paradise. I don't know. They're both so different, but yeah, chasing the wild, I mean, trap me in a mountain anytime. It's Colton. He's hot. That's what did it for me. That main mound character and those delicious curls and that black cowboy hat. Like, we didn't have another MMC that even measured up. He was a lot of ways. He was super hot. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:15 That was a hot one for me too. I even read the next one in the series because the first one was so good. I just felt like the second one had to be so good. So we might have to add that to our list for season three. But I also really liked praise, which I don't know how you all feel about that. But I liked that book. I really thought it was really hot. I liked the Zaddy thing.
Starting point is 00:06:34 There was enough confidence. He treated her really well. And I just really liked that one. I liked it. But would you say that was her favorite? Like, I don't know. It's like a top three for me for the season, I thought. It definitely had moments.
Starting point is 00:06:46 It definitely had moments. The car keys, the vibrate. I mean, there were some moments in that book that you were like, oh, no. It was missing a landscape for me. I wish they had talked more about San Francisco and where they were. But the whole book took place in a house and a sex club. So like that's my point. But we did talk about how they could.
Starting point is 00:07:05 could have been better about describing the sex club, right, as a character in the book, which they didn't do. But for me, Paradise Problem was all scenery and beautiful while the sex was there and the story was cute. It was a bit predictable. Speaking of scenery, okay, so which book do you think had the most outlandish or crazy storyline for you? And I bring this up because, and I'll answer because, obviously it's my question, but the one in Paris, the shades of red, me was the most like you got the visual you were in Paris I had recently been to Paris and I was like oh this is so good and then cannibalism yeah it was like what I don't see how anybody answers this question any differently right like the most landish are you kidding me like this is
Starting point is 00:07:54 definitely the one hey I said lights out because I went into shades of red knowing it was going to be fucked up so it didn't surprise me but lights out the surprise the surprise murder mafia storyline. I didn't see that shit coming. It's a bit of a turn. That is so fair. Lynn? I will say Shades of Red to me is the answer to this question. Like super outlandish. What the hell? I didn't. I read the book jacket. I did not rot like this and I did not expect this book at all. No. At all. But lights out to me was maybe one of my least favorites. I don't know. I just could knock it into it. The fucking the knife and the bed. I don't know. The whole thing was kind of crazy. But shades of red took me. a totally different surprise with the cooking, the body, and the current husband was a beater. I don't know. That one was, that was tough. It was all a setup. I mean, it was so weird. Well, you thought it was a setup. I still question. Yeah. That was Kim's theory. You're more cynical than I am. She set that guy up for sure. Lights Out. You were most excited about that book. And it just took a turn for you.
Starting point is 00:08:59 For Jen, for sure. Would you say? Yeah. I was very excited about Lights Out and chasing the wild going into. this season. Those were my top two. I cannot wait to read these two. And neither of them disappointed me. I love both of them. But Lights Out surprised me because I thought it was going to be a stalker. I didn't know there'd be a murder. And I will say to all the TikTokers out there that say this is such a great book, nobody gives it away. You don't see the murder coming and you don't know about the mafia showing up in the middle of it either. So now that we're giving it away, spoiler alert. Sorry. It's such a subplot that takes half the book.
Starting point is 00:09:37 It's not even the main relationship. It was like, oh, wait. Well, and it was silly. I mean, and we talk about this all the time, who read, who listened. And I think Jen and I both listened and Lindsay read. And it was just so silly. It was comical meets, sexual meets, what the fuck? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:58 I mean, the whole time was like, huh? I was entertained. You guys had such a different experience. It was funny. Because the main male character was so cute in the audio where I just kind of blew off some of that cuteness. But it didn't have the same experience because I think I read it. His delivery was classic. It was good.
Starting point is 00:10:17 It was so good. But it's funny because in Protector, you guys felt like the main male character really ruined the audio. Oh, he was terrible. Yeah. Sorry. But he was terrible. So it's like you might have liked the book better if you had read it where I might have lights out if I had more if I had listened. into it. We've read, and I'm going to go full, full show.
Starting point is 00:10:37 Pool tilt. We have read 27 books. If I'm counting fairy smut, I've read 27. I have I have to. When you meet people on the street that are like, what book would you recommend? Of these 27, which one do you most often recommend? Oh, perfect fit. A hundred percent. Perfect fit. Really? Yep. I'll be, I, in order, because I wrote down three for you. I've got perfect fit. because if you're going in, you're going all in, sister. Chasing the wild because I would have never picked up a Western romance and I'm in love. And then Paradise Problems because it was just so good and it was good on a different level. We actually had like a deep conversation about what would you do for money?
Starting point is 00:11:21 What wouldn't you do? So those are my top three. Oh, good. I tell a lot of people perfect fit too. I'm always like my favorite author that we've read is Sadie Kincaid. always, I mean, you know, I worship her. So it's like, and they'll say, I'm just getting into romance and what do you suggest? And I'm like, have you read Sadie yet?
Starting point is 00:11:40 Do a reverse harem. You'll love it. Well, I'm like, if we're tiptoeing in, Starwatante. Starwatante. He's going to cut off some fingers. You're going to have to get through it of this season, Chasing the Wild. And I'm like, you're welcome in advance because Colt is so delicious. I have to say, I agree, like, chasing the wild was amazing.
Starting point is 00:12:00 I mean, I went to read the second one before it was even on our TBR list. So it was exceptionally good. We had a couple of this season that there were rereads for me, like Beautiful Bastard of the Protector, which I think were actually a little milder than we typically do. But I think really solid books that I really enjoyed. And then in season one, I will say that I was really impressed by Sadie Kincaid with Dante, which was the first book I had ever read from her. Perfect Fit was obviously amazing. And Ginny's most hated book, Five Brothers, I totally enjoyed. I totally enjoyed it and would read it again.
Starting point is 00:12:36 Penelope's an amazing writer. I do want to put that out there. She's a writer. I just don't love the content. I don't like her tropes. But she loves the way you wrote it. I like the way she writes a landscape. I love the way she develops a character.
Starting point is 00:12:51 I don't love her tropes. That is fair. It's obviously. But I think this is one thing that Kim and I will agree on that Ginny is a very interesting with what she doesn't like. And then like three books later is like totally fine with the same thing. And you're like, oh, I'm going to disagree. It's not the same thing. It wears her down. It wears you got like baby steps for this one. You're wearing down. One or two spanking. Sure. We've been reading these types of books for a lot longer. I give Jenny five years before five brothers is totally her
Starting point is 00:13:21 speed. It's like cakewalk. There's nothing. Why is it so light? It's lighthearted. Totally. Yeah. I see that. It's so funny though when you're on a journey with romantic, trashy romance novels that you do sometimes start kind of light and then you kind of work your way up to harder stuff and you may not like it all, but it definitely is for me. I'm realizing as I go back into my library, how the evolution of my... Yeah, trashy romance. Totally. I started with Sadie. I'm like, I started on crack cocaine. There was no gay rate for me. Like, I jumped right in. I don't know. I guess perfect fit was, it was a lot. It's like a marijuana joint. It's like middle of the road. A little Mary J. I can't wait until we get to some like motorcycle romance. So which one out of all of these books? And let's stick with season two. Which of these books would you turn into a movie? I said because I'm pretty sure it's already a movie. I said Kiss of the Irish.
Starting point is 00:14:22 Oh, that's where I was going. Oh, that's a whole, that's like a lifetime. It's not lifetime. It's Hallmark. Nobody died. Hallmark. You're right. Otherwise, the protector's probably already a movie, too. I mean.
Starting point is 00:14:34 It is. It's called bodyguard. Yeah, we have to get our royalties from Hallmark, though, because we say it at least four times this season. Yeah. Cash in in those $5 bills. Yeah. I don't know. Paradise Problem could be a rom-com.
Starting point is 00:14:46 Oh, totally. I feel like it is also already a movie. Jennifer Lopez is in it. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. I said beneath the mask because. I love the idea of being down in dirty New Orleans with the tattoo parlor and all this stuff. Or praise because I would love to see how they play out the key scene.
Starting point is 00:15:08 Oh, where he goes for the keys and gets the remote. That would be hard to do if it wasn't a porno. No, I think this would be amazing. It would be good. It would be good. I don't know. Who's the actor from the new Twisters and the cute blonde who are like potentially dating right now? I could see them in Paradise Problem.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Glenn Powell. Oh, Glenn Powell. He's delicious. So hot. And Sidney, Glenn Powell and Sydney Sweeney in Paradise Problems. I'm going to turn us another direction because we've all been really honest, I feel like, with our reviews. So like, picture yourself at an airport. And you see what author, if you saw her coming at you at the airport, would you turn around and run the other way because of the way we have reviewed those books? I know y'alls, but for me, it's Nevesa Allen for Lights Out. This was just not, that was just not my favorite. Oh my God. It wasn't my favorite. I'm shocked. I knew you would be. I don't feel like you bashed it too hard in the episode. Listen, they always end up together. I'm happy. Well, I'm Chantilly White and I. Oh, really? I would have guessed different. Poor Chantilly. I know, but like I, I gave her one and a half stars. I feel real bad about it. Not Shades of Writer? I don't know because that... I wasn't digging on her writing. And I feel like Chantilly, we were sort of... Harsh.
Starting point is 00:16:33 We were a little harsh. You know, because it was Cupid's mistake and there wasn't a mistake. And then there was like... The only thing I remember about that episode is I kept saying, what was the mistake? I don't understand. The title. The title was the mistake. We talked about that.
Starting point is 00:16:48 We never talked about Valentine's. There were some issues in the, in the content of the writing that. I felt like we're a little bit judgy. Yeah. But I don't feel like in shades of red, that wasn't a writing issue. It was, again, it was the trope. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:06 Yeah. Ouch. I thought Willa was a good. I thought she was a good. I apologize for beautifully. Are you Chintilly too? I am not. I am actually, and this is going to,
Starting point is 00:17:17 I'm getting in trouble for this one, but Jody. Really? Jody for the protector. I know. I know. I know. And she's usually really good.
Starting point is 00:17:28 But like, there were so many subplots and unnecessary stuff. Then I listened to it. It was terrible and it felt like a spoof of the bodyguard. I just, sorry, Jody. I would duck under the bleachers at the airport. I'd be like, head's down. I love her. I will literally read.
Starting point is 00:17:49 She's like Megan March for me. I will read anything she puts out. I love Megan. Because you love her. much I would give it. But are they all like action films in the end? No, no. Like this man is so good. But that's a multi-book series. So we don't do series. I had to really dig out of the, dig out of my archives for this one because I love her as an author, but I usually read hers their multi-book series. Okay. So out of all of our main male and main female characters, which couple was the least believable? Mine was gray and orally. That was mine too. I was not buying it. I was not buying this classy French woman who, by the way, set his ass up. Let him take her in the middle of the street.
Starting point is 00:18:33 That was her intent. Isn't that a little more believable? No, still wasn't buying it. I did not feel the chemistry at all throughout the whole dog. I didn't either. I felt like it was believable in that. Like, he really wanted something. She was always cut off.
Starting point is 00:18:50 She was never her whole self. And, like, he wanted it to be more than she. she could give. That was believable to me because I felt like she wrote that well. To me, Cupid's mistake was the most unbelievable couple. Oh. How fast that was. She's the party girl. He's the bearded up. Then she gets sick and all of a sudden my boyfriend girlfriend because he's like stayed to help her. I mean, I don't know. That thing. Insta love. Insta love. Like she had to basically like. It wasn't Insta love though because he hung out for five weeks. She had to rape him basically to like get him to like finally come. And he was like hanging around, just kissing her on the forehead.
Starting point is 00:19:30 I'm like, what the fuck is this? That was weird. This is not instillove. That was not romantic. Yeah. Sorry, Chantilly. I'm so sorry. We'll have to read.
Starting point is 00:19:41 I feel really bad for Ms. White. I did not hate that book, but I feel like it was the most unbelievable. I didn't hate the book, but I do get why you did hate the book. Oh, okay. I'm the only one that I disliked that. Sure. I didn't hate it. Dan.
Starting point is 00:19:58 Which main female would you most want to be like? Or most want to be. I said Harley. She was one of my favorites and legacy. I loved the fact she wore her little compers sneakers everywhere. She was so, she loved it baked and had a good tank. And then still married a billionaire. That's me.
Starting point is 00:20:16 I said Anna in Paradise Problems because she got the vacay. This vacation is on my bucket list. like the Maldives where you're like over this blue water and this hot thing and it's five star everything. Yeah. Yeah. Your sister-in-law hits on you. I could see it. That was an interesting. That was interesting. I don't know. I really liked the kiss of the Irish. You give up your life. You go. You go abroad. You meet the cute bartender, you know, in like a small village. And then he's now the love of your life. And you gets just to art and help bartend. Sign me up. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I might be rethinking mine. Except that he's not a billionaire. I don't know. I want the billionaire too.
Starting point is 00:20:59 He's not a billionaire, but he's comfortable. He was a little stingy with his credit card, though. Only for his sister. I'd probably not want to give my sister my credit card either. That's fair. I don't even have a sister and I wouldn't do it. So what did you learn this season? What book brought you the most?
Starting point is 00:21:20 Oh, my God, moment. Ooh, ooh, ooh. Oh, ooh, ooh. Me, Jen? Jen, would you like to go first? I learned about Zaddies. Oh, I learned about honey traps. Oh, yeah. Those are my two big takeaways.
Starting point is 00:21:35 Those are big. You both brought me to those learnings and I appreciate it. And now you love them, don't you? You're a big Zaddy. Oh, I love a good Zaddy. Yeah, yeah. I think for me, like, I didn't not know this existed, but the praise kink, which I didn't realize was a kink in and of itself.
Starting point is 00:21:51 I've read a bunch of books where they say, good girl, and they love that. But yeah, I didn't realize it was called a pre's kink before I read this. I was not upset about it. No, no, it's a good kink. I'm here for that kink. I'm going to say the one thing that I learned and it was kind of twisted, actually, was how much weapons stuff? Same. Same.
Starting point is 00:22:12 I'm a little disturbed, also a little intrigued, but mostly I'm disturbed. And when I say intrigued, peeps am not into it. I want to know why someone else is into it. Like, I'm intrigued by the danger of like, I'm going to stab a knife in the mattress and then you're going to get off on the knife. There's like guns. That's so, yes. It was such a weird thing that I'm seeing pop up over and over in some of these books. And the blood, blood play is becoming huge too.
Starting point is 00:22:45 And I'm like, also society is going down. Don't forget the breeding king. We learned about that. Oh, the breeding kink. That was kind of weird, too. Oh, I don't know. That's a thing, though. We're all twisted.
Starting point is 00:22:58 Hearing more about it. It's not like I haven't read books with kinks, but like there's all these new kinks, like more specific kinks, I guess. But are they new? They're putting a name to it. But we're reading books. They're coming forefront is what's happening. They're coming to the surface and everybody's like, oh, why not?
Starting point is 00:23:15 The weapon kink to me is like tough. Like, I don't understand it. But I have to think that it has to be. with like, has to be something about danger and it has to be something about sort of like a faux pa. Like you're not supposed to do it. So there's this sort of sexual energy around doing something you shouldn't. You shouldn't do or someone might not like, right? Kind of like sleeping with your ex-boyfriend's dad, which was two books. We read this season. I mean, if your ex-boyfriend's a douche bag. I didn't hate that. And boyfriend's dad is hot. I'm in. If he's a daddy, it's fine.
Starting point is 00:23:52 Ooh, I've got one for you, ladies. Let me just dig that out of the archives. Yes, but some of these, the weapon play to me, I'm like, does everybody do like a bullet check before we start? Do you like cap the night? Some of these things are problematic for me. Also, it lights out with the knife in the mattress. Like, I'm like, that mattress is expensive. No, we bought another one.
Starting point is 00:24:13 I know, but that costs money. To have her have sex with your knife, it costs you $5,000 to replace that mattress. Like, what the hell are you thinking? Yeah. There's some weird shit out there. Sorry. She was worth it, Lindsay. She was worth it.
Starting point is 00:24:27 She was worth every penny of that and the whole security system to protect her from him. Okay. Is there an episode you wish we could do over? Oh. This is always one because one of us is usually drunk. And so there's all. That was going to be my answer. Those are the best ones.
Starting point is 00:24:47 Last season. And my answer was my drunkest episode. And here we are again with the same problem. So the protector. I was pretty wastey. And I did not love that episode. I feel like I was interrupting Lindsay a lot and we got through it. But that was not my favorite. No, I didn't feel that way. I think, you know, it is boozy bookgasms. I feel like that just brings out our best self. You're more patient intolerant of those things, I feel like. Yeah, but what our nice listeners don't see is me flipping you off on the Zoom call the whole time. Oh, yeah. I do.
Starting point is 00:25:29 All the time. I see it. I screenshot it. And they don't hear the shit I cut out either. Yeah. Fair. Or the times I'm like, wait, I'm confused. It's because of just got done that.
Starting point is 00:25:40 Oh, wait. Roll that back. When I have gotten books confused. That's true. I read too much in between, which is my problem. I don't know, Kim, what do you think? Is there one that you would redo? I wouldn't because I think, and I know, I think we come, we show up. We are our authentic selves every single time. Good, bad, ugly, drunk, not drunk, whatever. It's there. And we're down for it. And yes, there were some moments where we were like, shit, should we actually air this? But I wouldn't redo it. I think it's good stuff because it's authentic. And I think that's what makes it what it is. I agree. So I don't. So I enjoy it.
Starting point is 00:26:18 I think it's funny. There's none that come to mind that I'm like, yes, I definitely want to redo that. Although probably Ginny with the editing is like, yes, that one was hard. There was one I was sniffling. Oh, I take stuff out. Kiss of the Irish, I think, was the one I was sick. And so I was sniffling the whole time. And it took me three hours to take out all my sniffles.
Starting point is 00:26:34 And then Ginny had to do another like hour and a half of taking out the rest of my sniffles. Just for the pure editing torture. You're welcome listeners is what we should be saying. And that could have been really atrocious. That was tough. But I do agree. Like there is some editing magic, but it's just fun to come together with you girls and do this and drunk or not or pissing each other off or not. I never get mad.
Starting point is 00:26:56 It's an enjoyable time of my week and I just, I wouldn't replace any of them. Aw, shucks. Oh, God. You also ask, are there moments where we would say, should we not air this moment? Yeah. Kim has previously done the editing right now. This is my job. And there are times where we make just absent-minded generalizations.
Starting point is 00:27:16 When we were doing Chantilly's book, sorry, Chantilly, I mean, I'm sure you're lovely. I did say when we were doing that recap, oh, she's a typical California girl. And you don't realize until you listen back, like, you shouldn't say that. You might be offending someone. Yeah. Yeah. So there's been a couple of things like that where I kind of said, oh, let's cut that out. We probably shouldn't say that.
Starting point is 00:27:39 But for the most part, we show up and we say whatever's on our mind. Good bad or ugly. It's out there. That's a little bit of the beauty of editing when we're coming to these things kind of half lit is that we have that option. If we ever wanted to do this live, we'd have to be really sober. Ew, that sounds boring. Why would you do that? Yes, ma'am.
Starting point is 00:27:59 Shut your mouth. Boycotted. Where's the boozy? Well, boozy after. I think in season one, too, like, I will tell you right now, there were a couple in season one. I did not want to air. And Kim Fada's on it. But in season two, I think we've really found.
Starting point is 00:28:15 got our shit together. Yeah. I will say on season one, Bingsgiving, Jen was here. She was like, let's not make this a straight porno. And Kim was like, Kim and I both were like, uh, hello, have you read the book? It's a straight porno. I've tried that a few times. You bitches always are like, whatever.
Starting point is 00:28:34 They didn't even print that shit, Jen. We had to download that book. But it was one of my favorites of the whole season. It was like a lot pad. And we still comment on it. It's like slaying for the rest of the whole podcast. It's one of our heaviest listen to episodes. Hydration is important.
Starting point is 00:28:56 If you learn nothing from this series, know that hydration is important. I know we're on season two recap, but if you haven't done season one, Bingsgiving is your first stop. It's a good one. First stop. It's like starting your smut journey. Yeah, just go all in. It is. It's a good one.
Starting point is 00:29:15 It's a keeper. So what is your favorite episode of season two? We've talked about our favorite books, but that doesn't always equate to your favorite episode. Best episode. That's true. Very true. I think Chasing the Wild is one of my favorites because... Really?
Starting point is 00:29:29 Yeah. I just really liked the book. I thought we were all in sync on it. I thought there was some good comedy. I thought it was a good one. You guys are going to laugh. My favorite episode was Cupid's mistake. I was just going to say, I think mine was also Cupid's Mistake.
Starting point is 00:29:44 It was so funny. We had so many funny lines in there because it was so silly and we were like, what is this thing? We were giggling and laughing and it was lighthearted and that was one of my favorites. Some of our best are when we don't either love the book or we each have different opinions on the book. That can make for a better episode, I think, sometimes. Like when we universally like it, it's probably flat a bit because we're like, yes, I agree. Okay, moving on. Maybe because I loved Chasing the Wild so much as a book.
Starting point is 00:30:14 I just, I liked listening back to that one. Oh, a lot of my favorites are when we all love it. And we can't wait to jump in and say what we loved about it. And we've got a few episodes like that. I really enjoy. And on the converse, I mean, ones that I didn't like so much this season were shades of red. I mean, it wasn't my favorite episode because I didn't like the book. And I was leading the conversation.
Starting point is 00:30:39 It was a journey. It was so negative. And I'm, I listen back and I'm like, oh, I wouldn't. I would have approached it differently. Yeah, I was excited about that book going end of the season. And then I was... You couldn't have known. You could not have known. I know. It was, it was a shocker. It was so weird. But I still might read the second one. I really want to know what happens with him and the baker. Kim and I are going to let you. Yeah. You know what? During our break, I'm going to read that and let you know how it goes. Okay. I think you should. I, you know what? One of mine that I enjoyed because I had,
Starting point is 00:31:14 to dig into it more was Sugar Baby because it was written by an actual don't, a dominatrix. And I thought that was so kind of just cool. You went down the rabbit hole. I went down the rabbit hole. I mean, so to speak. And she had like, she's got her website. She's got her link. Come join my adult club. All the details are in her book. And I was just fascinating. This book is essentially marketing for her other business. Oh yeah. 100%. And we fell right in. Well, we didn't go to the business. We read the book. It was good. I went to the website.
Starting point is 00:31:47 I was intrigued. I wanted to know. You did. You were clicked through. I would say that Sugar Baby should have matched up with shades of red and also with praise. And really gotten that dynamic of the scene because I think we got the full scene in Sugar Baby of what it was like and all the ins and outs of the dominatrix stuff. And I think we lost it in praise where they go into the club. You didn't get the club.
Starting point is 00:32:15 You didn't get that feeling. But I liked praise the best out of those three. I liked praise. I did too. I felt like. But I wanted this scene. It was a gentle, you know, I don't like Bias. Baby steps, baby.
Starting point is 00:32:26 We've talked about this multiple times. But I loved praise and I loved the way he treated her. And for the first time I understood, I'm like, oh, this is what they're going for. And we started. Did we start with shades of red or Sugar Baby first? No, Sugar Baby was first. Sugar Baby. I think was first. That was a Russ one. And you know, I personally feel like sex work should be legalized. And I think if someone wants to do that, they should be able to. And I think that's why I looked at that from a different lens. I think that's why I was more open-minded about Sugar Baby. But I knew I wouldn't like the second book because of how hardcore the BDSM was going to be. And it's just, it's not my jam. I liked Sugar Baby. I was here for that. Like, I didn't feel like it was a ton of BDSMs.
Starting point is 00:33:14 so much as it was role play, right? Roll play. Yeah. And it was, it was definitely like not vanilla of sex. I did not feel like it was BDSM. Well, isn't the orgasm denial BDSM to some degree? Yeah, I mean, it's a pink. It's part of it. Like, yeah. I don't know. When I think of BDSM, I think of more hardcore, where you definitely in praise saw glimpses of it in the sex club, but that wasn't their relationship. Their relationship was not in the club. Right. Right. So like that's why I think the author didn't spend a lot of time in the club where in shades of red he's still he's still a newbie BDSM right you know until the very end of the book is when he starts really experimenting with BDSM like he doesn't even know what that is at the time he
Starting point is 00:33:58 knows what he likes but he's never been to a club before he's never been trained before but I feel like him tying her up in the he was a fast learner it just came to him very naturally yeah I mean you're right though the way it was written that club scene was his first time to go to the club and he's a but then he's like he went all in he's working the room he went all in and he's doing all kinds of things and he did go all in everywhere and it was it was a lot for a first timer yeah I'm kind of yeah yeah no la da da blah voices okay I know you guys like that and so it's not like don't you you can't generalize There are so many parts.
Starting point is 00:34:45 And there's a spectrum. And I also think that either this season or last season, you learned that actually the sub is the one in charge. This season. And I think that surprised you quite a bit, too, was that the sub who is supposed to be the submissive actually runs the entire scene. And has all the power. And you saw that in shades of red. In the right relationship. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:06 Before we wrap, who was your favorite book boyfriend of the season? We'll close with that. Colt. Obviously, Lindsay. Wild. It's so hard. Yes, I loved Colt from Chasing the Wild, but I did like praise. I liked my Zaddy from Praise. I thought he was really redeeming character.
Starting point is 00:35:25 Oh, you're going to go with him. I had to go with Colts. I couldn't resist those. It was a top stuff for me. He was so, Colt was super hot, but I liked the Zaddy and Praise. All right. Well, this has been a blast. Thanks everyone for listening and for being on this journey with us.
