This is Jen and I am joined again by my favorite twin sister, Fairy Smut connoisseurs. Hello.
lady. Hi, this is AIME. Hey, it's Jenny here. So today we are discussing a court of wings and
ruined by Sarah Maas, but before we dive into this one, what are we drinking tonight?
All right, this is Amy, and I have to say that one of my favorite scenes in this book was the
drama that happened in the Don Court. So with that, we're going to drink what's called
the Don Court drama. And so that is two ounces of rum, four ounces.
of pineapple juice, a half an ounce of lime juice, half an ounce of simple syrup, three ounces
of ginger beer. And of course, because we're talking fairies, we have to have a little bit of
edible glitter or luster dust, and we serve it with fresh pineapple to garnish.
I love that you always have that on hand in your bar. You know what? You got to have some glitter.
It makes every drink better.
I just fetch your personality so well. I think of course you have a lot. I think that.
I was a fairy somewhere in a previous life.
I thought you were.
I'm convinced of it.
You're the reason we're all here, so I believe that.
That's true.
Well, it starts with a flashback of Resan and the battlefield years earlier,
and he's looking for his friends, fighting alongside him.
I think the point of that opener was just to show us that he was a warrior.
Well, and they refer back to this war multiple times throughout the book.
so it just gives us a little snapshot into what it looks like.
Yeah, yeah.
So meanwhile, we're in the spring court, and I am loving this new badass version of Phaer.
No more whiny Fahra.
Like, she is, she's here to do a job.
And she's basically a spy and enemy territory, and she is playing the part beautifully.
Yes.
Tamlin's falling for it.
Lucian's not so sure.
Yeah.
She's demure.
She's painting.
But she tells Tamlin, I want to be included in me.
meetings about highburn and he agrees because he's on thin ice for you know all the stuff before so he's
being really nice and mostly giving her what she wants ianthi's there too and she grovels and apologizes
for her mistakes and favor pretends to forgive her but lucian's still like kind of on her he's like
i don't believe this shit for a minute yeah that metal eye is seeing something like what is going
on here and she's having hard time hating lucian like she's mad at him but like he's
He apologizes and said he should have been a better friend.
And like, she's warming up to him again.
Yes, it's impossible to hate Lucian.
We just love him.
I mean, seriously.
And then, you know, Rindong, we have company at the spring court.
Jurian's here with some evil hibern twins.
Brana and Dagadon.
They're the niece and nephew of the king, and they show up at the mansion for the purpose of
Tamlin showing them weaknesses in the wall.
There are certain holes in the wall where people can kind of sneak in.
they want to know where those are.
What I thought was really strange about these twins.
It was that they're boy-girl twins and they sleep in the same bed.
Yeah.
Yeah, incestuous much.
It was so uncomfortable to read.
I was like, am I reading this right?
And Ness twins ourselves, like the last thing my sister and I want to do is sure of bed, like, hell no.
Right.
It's so different when it's boy-girl twin.
And then he was, the boy twin was like obsessed with the girl twin.
I don't know.
It was really bizarre.
It was weird.
It was a lot of weird nights.
They were creepy and evil, and I didn't love those, too.
But when they get their favors kind of taking some jambes at Juryan to bait him and
threatening her, it works, but he's on to her too.
He is.
Like, he knows she's up to something and he's got a little smirk about him.
And honestly, I had a really hard time hating Juryon, too.
Same.
Last week, he was kind of hot, you know?
And now it's like, he's kind of charming.
Darkness that, Jirian? I mean, it's mysterious. We like that. Yeah. Well, and even before, you know,
later on, we find out really kind of who he is and what his motivations are. But even before we find
that out, it's hard not to like him. He's very clever and he's kind of got a little swagger about him.
Well, and one of the reasons I liked him is because, you know, Ianthi's slithering around this whole time.
and Juryan's looking at her like she's disgusting.
And actually they said he scalded her like she was an insect buzzing in his ear.
I guess Ianthi's just drop dead gorgeous.
He wants nothing to do with her.
He is like, ew, go.
Yeah.
So, but everybody's a little, you know, even Lucian's never loved her.
But we do find out that Lucian had to go to the Kalamai ceremony because Tamlin was too
heartbroken about losing Fara and he just couldn't muster up the strength to spread his seed this
year. So he said Lucian in his, like his tribute and Lucian had to have sex with Dianety. Yes. Yes. Like
poor poor fella. Yes, he did. It's like, why do you have to do it with her? That was so, you know, poor Lucian.
Because she's the ultimate pick me girl. I'm sure she was standing in front of the cave going,
okay, let's go.
I don't know.
She's, yeah, she's slimy.
Their whole mission is to explore the wall and find these weaknesses.
But before they go, it's the summer solstice ceremony where Iainthe, this is usually her show.
Like, she usually sets herself up to where the sun rises right over her head and she does
this long, like ceremony.
And Faira makes sure to fuck it up just enough that Ayanth doesn't get her moment, which was great.
That was so awesome.
Yeah.
She moved the rock just a little to the left.
And then when the sun came up, it was shining on Farah.
And everyone's bowing to her.
And didn't Alice choose like the most gorgeous dress that she just sparkled like a ray of sunshine?
Well, and she used her magic powers to sparkle even more.
Everyone in the spring court is like she's blessed.
She's the town hero.
And they all that just think she's the best thing that ever happened to us.
She sparkled like a Cullen vampire.
Meanwhile, Ianthia is just simmering.
So much.
Oh, they do set out to explore the wall.
And the first day, they see some children of the Blessed.
And we haven't really talked much about what these children of the Blessed are.
But from what I can tell, they are, they're humans that are kind of obsessed with fairies.
they often will go on these journeys to Prithian and I don't think they ever come back.
Like, it's just sort of sad.
They're basically a bunch of hippies that think that they're going to go over there and
become fairies.
But really, the truth of the matter is, they never come out alive.
Yeah, it's not good.
And the twins, the evil twins are looking at them like, you know, hungry wolves looking at a state.
And Fahra gets nervous about it.
And she uses her mind magic to tell the children of the blessed, like, this is a bad place.
Get out of here.
Go tell all your friends.
Yeah.
And the twins don't like that too much because they were going to have some fun.
So they camp in tents that night.
And Fahara sleeps in a tent with Lucian.
And she's been slowly inappropriately, like, just flirtatious with him, which I didn't like
her doing that time.
She's doing it to piss Tamlin off and to start gossip.
But then the next morning, the children of the blessed have been murdered.
the twins went out, found them, slaughtered them, and left them dead.
And it was kind of a...
Just gruesome.
Yeah, just brutal attack.
And it was a message to Vera, which was, we get what we want, we do what we want.
You can't stop us.
She and Lucian are real pissed off about it, so they send the bog after the twins.
And Tamlin's mad at them, like, how very dare you send the bog?
Like, what were you thinking?
And they're like, they started it.
They started it.
They suck.
We started it. We finished it. Any more questions? The message is clear. Like, don't fuck with me or I'm
gonna fuck with you back. Yeah, fuck around and find out. That's exactly what that was.
And meanwhile, these twins are Damati, like Fahara. So this whole time, they are trying to get into
everybody's minds, but Fahra can sense it. And so she's throwing up shields, but she's getting headaches
and she's getting weakened. And we find out that these twins are, you know, slowly poisoning her with
Fabane so it could mute her powers and just awful pieces of shit. Yeah. Yeah, they're pretty awful.
So while there, Tamron and Fara get into an argument and he once again loses his temper where
everything in the room flies and Fahra gets hurt. Like she's bleeding. She has bruises. She intentionally
doesn't put her shield up. She knew that was coming. So she intentionally went she baited him. She wanted
that. She'll agree and like, you know, let me have it and you'll see what happens. But she makes him
look like an asshole. Like, and all, everybody sees it. The staff sees it. The sentries see it. And
they're all like, wow, he's kind of an abusive boyfriend. Like, poor Farah. She's our town
hero. And look what he's being so mean to her. And so she's spinning this, this narrative exactly the way
she wants it to be seen and it's working.
And meanwhile, Iianthe frames one of Tamlin's centuries for stealing keys and falling
asleep on the job while they're attacked by the Naga, which are bad fairies, basically.
Fyra knows that Ianthi's lying.
Tamlin kind of knows Ianthi's lying, but she doubles down and says, no, this man did wrong by me
and he needs to be punished.
So she bullies Tamlin into flogging him within an inch of his life.
And Fahira begs for mercy on behalf of the century.
And Tamlin says, no.
Very publicly.
Yes, very publicly.
Everyone's seeing this.
These are the guys that put their lives on the line for Tamlin.
These are the guys that many of them died in service to him and did it proudly.
And they're like, now he doesn't have our back.
And he's an abusive boyfriend to our town hero.
He's going to believe this slithering.
sorceress over his loyal soldiers. Yeah, and it's all going to plan for Farah. This is exactly what
she wants. They are crumbling from the inside. So they go out again with the evil twins and Jurian,
and they're looking for more holes in the wall, and they're camping out. And Ianthes with them
this time, because she's on to Fyra, and she wants to keep a closer eye on her. But before they leave,
Alice basically tells Fyra, look, hey, I'm on to you. You came back.
here looking healthy and happy and I know you well enough to know. You were not miserable over there.
And you were when you were here. I've got some friends in the summer court and they said that you were
really, really happy. She kind of wink, wink, like, Alice. They're kind of speaking in code.
Yeah. She gives her some supplies and says, I'm moving to the summer court to be with my family.
Good luck to you. It was kind of sweet. So while they're out, Farah finds out the twins kind of tell
that, you know, the plan is for Hyburn's going to use the cauldron to collapse the wall.
And this is really the information she was hoping to confirm.
And she's like, all right, I got enough intel.
I'm kind of missing my boyfriend.
It's this time to go back.
I'm done being a spy in enemy territory.
And I'm going to leave now.
On her way out, she finds Ianthi has tied Lucian to a tree.
And she's about to rape him.
Yeah.
Yes, she's such a sexual predator.
She was assaulting him.
Yeah.
It's like a serial rapist.
And Favor just can't let it happen.
Like she saves him from Ianthi.
And then she uses her magic to get Iianthe to crush her hand with a rock to smithereens.
Like her hand is completely destroyed.
All the bones are broken.
She puts a spell on her that says she can never touch another man who doesn't want it.
So there's a long history of Ianthi.
She tried to go after Rissand.
And who knows how many other poor men.
Oh my gosh, right?
I mean, so Lucian's like, hey, where do you think you're going?
And he's like, I'm coming with.
You're going to where my mate is.
And I want to go too.
And she's like, I want to eat out of here with you, please.
Yeah, I don't like it here either.
So she kind of like says, all right, fine.
But before they leave, the evil twins stop them and tell them, ha, ha, ha, we have been poisoning you.
And your magic doesn't work.
And we're winning.
and they're just, they're just really rotten.
Oh, they're just terrible.
Yeah.
So Farah kills them before she leaves.
Love it.
It was a really nice.
It was like, and it would even surprise Lucian for him to see her just winnowing and going
up against, you know, these really strong, well-established soldiers and just kick their ass.
Yeah.
Love it.
Yeah.
She, he was impressed for sure.
They head out.
There's an escape tunnel that took them to the fall court.
And it's a very harrowing journey.
And I have to say,
this is where the book starts getting a little long for me.
It does.
Well, in the third half, too.
It's like every time they turn around, there's another conflict.
And so they run into Solutions Brothers.
The first attack by the brothers, Fahra is able to use her.
She's got just enough magic left that she's able to escape.
The second time, they get attacked.
They're on a frozen lake.
They were in the winter court.
Yeah.
She's trying to muster up a little more magic and it's slowly coming back.
But they almost die.
And then Cassian appears in the sky, like a god from heaven.
And then Azrael's right behind him.
And he saves their lives.
And he actually almost kills the one brother that wronged Morgan.
That was supposed to marry Morris.
Yes.
She stops them before they murder Aris.
The first thing Morgan asks when they get, they winnow them back to the night court is,
Did you kill ERIS? Fairea says, no, we did not. And she's like, okay, I was just checked.
Well, and Farah knows that Eiris is going to be a pretty critical piece in this alliance for the war.
As much as they hate his guts, know that he needs to still stay alive or else we'd have yet another
problem on her. Yeah, she's playing the long game in this one. She is. Some of the things she did in the
spring court will come back to bite her, but her alliance with ERIS actually ends up being a really good thing.
Morgan says, let's go home and Faris says, which home? And then Morgan takes one look at Lucian, realizes she can trust him and says, let's go to the penthouse. So they all winnow over to Valeris. And Lucian can't believe his eyes. There's children laughing in the streets. He's just blown away by this beautiful place. He's heard all these stories of like he's thinking that he's going to the court of nightmares. Yeah. And then there's like all these children just laughing in the streets and merchants cobbling and, you know, all this fun stuff happening.
Cobbler's cobbler's cobbler's cobbling.
Shoemaker, shoeing.
Glass blowers blowing.
Solutions's really awkward, though, because nobody really likes him.
But he doesn't care.
No.
Stair to me his mate?
I don't know.
It's kind of cute because he's putting up with a lot of shit just so that he can just get one minute with Elaine.
He just wants to meet her.
He's literally the red-headed stepchild.
Poor guy.
Yes, he is.
He really is. And we find out he really is.
He kind of is.
But then, Rysand and Fara have not seen each other in a really long time.
And he's like, everybody out.
We're going to have a reunion.
And they do.
And I loved the writing, again, is really beautiful.
The love story she writes about Rysand and Fara is so beautiful.
He just loves her so much.
He does.
I love the way that it's written.
It was really sweet.
And they got back together.
Yeah.
You could, I mean, didn't she, like, fall on her knees when she saw him?
Oh, yeah.
She just, she just lost it.
She just broke down and, like, just totally overwhelmed and, you know, falling to her knees and him joining her.
It was just, I mean, it's so sweet.
I know.
I know.
You're just really rooting for them.
So then, Fahar, you know, her sisters have been there this whole time.
So she's like, I should go see my sisters.
Let's go see him.
And they're staying at the house of wind.
He's like, okay.
Are you sure?
You want to do that?
Buckle up, Buttercup.
I know.
Nesta's angry.
Elaine is a shell of herself.
She's depressed.
She's mourning the loss of her human fiancé.
It hasn't been great for them.
And they haven't been great to their hosts either.
They haven't been pleasant to be around.
I think FARA was really sad to see that.
She wasn't expecting that.
But the inner circle has a meeting about Hyburn.
And they decide they need to work with the sisters to see if they can
fix the holes in the wall. And they also want to have a meeting of all the high lords and get everybody
together to see who their allies are. They really, they know the war is coming and they've got to figure
out who's on their side. And meanwhile, Fara's training with Cassian. Nesta refuses to train with
Cassian and he's kind of mad about it. And Asriel agrees to teach Fahara how to fly. So throughout the
book, they're working on that. Yeah. So Reese and Fahira decide they're going to recruit the bone
Carver to help them with the upcoming war because he is incredibly powerful.
And he always appears to Farah as her own child.
So he does.
Which is like really interesting to me.
And then we find out.
And what does we see when he sees the bone carver?
Do you guys remember?
It's always something different for Resan.
Yeah.
He saw Jurian one time.
Yeah.
I don't think that they went into in detail the other times.
But I know he definitely saw Jurian.
Well, and this last time, he didn't, he just stood outside the door.
He's like, I don't even want to deal with this guy.
And he, the guy, the bone cover kind of likes Farras.
So she goes a couple of times to ask for his help.
And we find out that his sister, twin sister, I think, is the weaver.
And we didn't talk about the weaver in the last podcast because I didn't realize how
important she was.
No, we're here and she's kind of, she's very important.
They kind of a big deal.
Yeah, she becomes a big deal.
becomes a major player. So her real name is Stryga. And her history is that she's a very powerful being.
And she used her powers for bad things. Mainly she killed people to steal their life force so she could
stay young and beautiful. So she has that ability. And a Fay warrior many, many years ago,
put an end to her reign of terror by confining her to a little cottage in the woods. She's also
blind. And she likes to collect things. So she has many bibles and things in her cottage. In
the last book, Resand gave Fahara a challenge to go into the Weaver's Cottage and retrieve an item that
called to her, one of his items that was important to him. And it was a ring that ultimately ended up
being her wedding ring. But Fara barely made it out alive. It was really dangerous. And so that's a little
history about it. But now we know, like, that's the bone carver's sister. Way more powerful,
sister, that he's afraid of her. Yeah. Yeah. Like, he doesn't ever want to leave the prison because
he's scared of her. I'm sorry about it.
main reason. With a name like Stryga, like I would not go up against that shit at all. Like that is a
badass name. To get his help, his price is that you have to bring him the Aurora Baurus mirror.
Oraboros. And or auroboros. Aurora Borealis. I can say. Oraboros. Yeah. Good enough.
Yeah. One of these old. Tomato tomato.
It's a mirror and it's scary.
They hooked the court of nightmares to get the mirror.
But before they go, Nesta reluctantly agrees to help fix the wall.
And she also agrees to join them in the court of nightmares.
While they're there, they're planning to have meetings with potential allies and FARA sees what she can find out about the mirror.
But my favorite part of this visit is that Rissand introduces her as his high lady.
and they get up on the throne platform and he goes bow yeah yeah they only had one
drops to their knees like he's so mean to them i know it's time for you bitches to be kneeling
well he's pissed because they only have one throne and so instead of sitting down he lets
her sit down and stands next to her and instructs everyone to bow which it was awesome he's there
for his lady so their courts leader is more's dad
Kier. And I still don't entirely understand why if Rysands the High Lord of this court,
he doesn't have more power over this court. Like, he has to collaborate with Kier.
I think because in, in their eyes, he is not 100% high fe. He's high fay and half a Lerian,
which in their eyes, they're not equal. Yeah, he's a half breed, pretty much. Yeah.
Interesting. Okay.
That does explain a little bit of it because I'm like, why is he always having to get Keir's buy-in?
And Keir says, sure, I'll help if I can have access to Valeris, which is slowly becoming the worst-up secret in Prithian.
Like, everyone's finding out about it.
Hey, let that one get out.
After hundreds of years now, like, everybody knows about it and they all want to go.
So Resand agrees, which really upsets more again.
Then Farah, while she's looking into this mirror, she finds out that everyone that looks into
this mirror goes mentally insane and like loses there's mind.
So she's like the never ending story mirror.
You just like you well, we'll get there later.
Well, and it is hard past.
I would rather not go mentally insane so you can keep your mirror.
Yeah.
Well, it was funny because she was thinking that she'd have to do a lot of bargaining to get
it and basically Kear's like, yeah, it's yours.
Sure.
If you can take it.
Good luck.
Another.
If you fuck around, you're going to find.
No. With this never-ending story mirror.
So back in Valeris, Elaine keeps saying like really weird things.
And everyone thinks that she's lost her marbles.
And everyone's super sad about it because she just isn't the same.
And she talks in this like spaced out way of talking.
And she's saying really weird things about hands that are getting old and white and black ravens.
And so everyone's like, let's get her to a doctor.
Like, this is getting bad.
I know she's acting like I do when I take too many gummies.
Oh, Jenny.
I'm like, you are high a.
They bring her to a doctor and the doctor's like, she's perfectly healthy.
She needs to eat something because she's also been really sad.
So she's not eating.
But they're like, otherwise, there's nothing wrong with her.
No.
And then Lucian's like, well, what if I use our mating bond to see if I can figure something out?
And he tugs on her with the bond, which feels invasive to her.
And then he looks guilty.
He apologizes.
He rogues out like a string pulling on her ribs.
Yeah, that was an interesting visual.
Yeah, yeah.
It was really kind of weird.
But they don't get very far with Elaine's struggle.
Meanwhile, they're still training for battle.
The flight training is not going well for Vera.
And so Asriel tells her a story.
And Jen, I was hoping you could kind of tell us.
It was a really, really cool story and very inspirational.
I like the Asriel Therra flight teaching because it got us to know a different side of
Asriel.
He's not as shy.
He's actually got a sense of humor.
He's very charming.
Says like really cute things.
And it's like he's coming out of his shell for all of us.
So Asriel is teaching her to fly.
And Freira finds out that he had to live.
teach himself how to fly and it wasn't until late in life. Everybody else was taught to fly as a toddler.
He wasn't. So he was actually ready to give up and Reese told him the story of Nafel.
Nafel is a seraphim. Seraphim usually have these beautiful big feathered wings and they are
gifted with magic of wind and air. They're just beautiful creatures, but not poor old Nifal.
She was born with these very small wings and the right one was Mishapen.
and busted.
So she was definitely the runt of the seraphim's poor girl.
All she wanted was to be in Prince Draykin's Aerial Legion.
But she tried and she failed.
She couldn't even fly with those busted wings in her heavy shield.
So that did not work out.
However, Nefell is actually besties with Draken's lover, Miriam.
So Miriam freed the human slaves from the black queens.
They were escaping through the seas.
And everybody thought that Miriam had escaped.
but she didn't.
She wanted to make sure all the slaves made it to safety.
So she was the very last to go.
And as a result, the Black Queen dabbed her with a spear and left her to die.
Everybody thought that Miriam was safe.
But only Nefell knew that Miriam was mortally wounded.
And Nefell found Miriam bleeding out.
And while Miriam was telling her to save herself, she refused to leave her and actually
picked her up and,
flu, she defied all logic, but Nefell managed to fly her across the sea floor, and she was able to
avoid the jagged labyrinth of rocks because of her wings being so small. Because she was able to save
Miriam and Miriam was alive to this day because of that, they developed the Nefell prophecy. The
inner circle says your greatest weakness can sometimes be your biggest strength, and that the most
unlikely person can alter the course of history. Always believe in yourself.
girls. Yep. I know. You can do anything. Just believe. Fara really taps into that story a few
times in the book because she was so inspired by it. Yeah, but then she tried to fly right afterwards
and busted her ass again. Yeah, she was kind of funny. That was kind of funny. Flying's kind of hard.
I believe I can fly. No, you can't not yet. And she goes into a tree and it's like,
So one day, Fyra and Nesta go to the library because they're researching how to use the
cauldron and what they can do about this wall.
And while they're there, highburn ravens, which are the highburn guards, attack them.
And one is wearing white and one is wearing black.
They are really scary and they almost get them.
So Fahra leads them into this very strange pit at the bottom of the library where something evil lives.
Rissand had kind of told her about it, but he's like,
we never speak of it.
You know, it's just bad.
The thing is like Baltimore.
The thing that shall not be named.
Yeah, Cassian saw one time.
And don't even ask anybody.
Yeah, don't even ask Cassian because he's going to nope right out of there.
Yeah.
But Faderas, like, I don't have any other options.
So she goes down there and she makes a bargain with this monster and says, if you'll kill
these guys, then I'll make a bargain with you.
And the monster says, I just want a little company.
Jesus.
I just want somebody to, like, come down.
and tell me some stories and I would I just want some good gossip every now and again we have a
girl's night in you know she makes the deal and every time you make a deal in valeris or even any type
area of the night court you get your tattoo right so she gets the tattoo because she does this but
the monster follows through on her side of the deal she kills the ravens but more importantly
they realize Elaine's not crazy she told them these ravens were coming yes they're realizing like wow
she seeing things that are really happening.
Another thing that happens, the ravens end up telling Farah that when Nesta went into
the cauldron, she stole something.
And the cauldron feels like she took something from it.
She took the power of death.
Yeah.
So when Elaine went in, Elaine went in first, the cauldron gave her, like, was very generous.
Gave her the gift.
Yeah.
Yep.
Yeah.
Loved Elaine and made her a seer.
so the gift of, you know, foresight.
But when Nesta went down, she was big mess.
She took from the cauldron without its permission.
Yeah.
So then, you know, that queen that was like, I'm first and like shoved all the other queens out of the way so that she could be beautiful and live forever.
Because Nesta and Elaine had just taken so much from it, that queen got old and ugly.
But she'll live forever.
Live forever as an old elderly.
Oh, gosh.
So, my kids get old and wrinkly, which is another thing that Elaine saw and didn't understand.
But now it's all kind of coming together and it's like, oh, my, she's got a gift.
Another thing that Elaine tells them about is that there's another mortal queen.
So as we talked about in the last podcast, there was a queen missing at that first meeting.
And they said she was sick, but she wasn't.
They had sold her to an evil, evil lord is what it said.
So she's cursed.
and she becomes a firebird every night.
And so Elaine is seeing like these fire wings.
And they all talk about it.
And they're like, if we could get to this queen, she could ally with us.
And I think she could help us.
And Lucian says, I need a job.
Put me in, coach.
I'm sitting on my butt.
My girlfriend won't have anything to do with me.
It's awkward.
Like, I need something.
I need to feel useful.
And like, please let me do this one thing.
It's kind of sad.
It's like a sort of sad goodbye.
Elaine is at the top of the stairs, just kind of watching him go, but not enough to be like goodbye or saying anything to him, but she's just kind of looking at him.
It's just, he didn't know, like, if he should say goodbye to her.
So he just kind of turns and leaves and then she turns and walk to her room.
So it's just kind of a sad little goodbye.
Not goodbye.
It's sad.
I just, I just don't want anybody to do Lucian like that.
You know, like, I know.
I just, I don't know.
He deserves a break for Lucian.
Hyburn attacks Tarquin in the summer court.
That's his first attack.
And without thinking twice, Riesanne says, we're going to help.
Like, he brings in his armies.
And they all go right away when they find out.
And when they get there, they realize nobody else came to help.
More and Fahara fight their way through the palace.
Fyra's like, win-o-staff.
Yeah.
Winnow-staff.
Like, she is an amazing warrior, and she is kicking ass.
Like, they really made a difference.
Sir Morgan just really did some damage.
Then we see Reese out on one of the ships with the king.
They're having words and they're kind of going back and forth and then Rysand.
He knows something's off, but he doesn't know what, but he throws a javelin at the king's heart.
And it's a mirage.
Man, I fell for this.
God, this is the oldest trick in the book.
Damn it.
The king's probably watching from a satellite somewhere laughing his ass on.
He's behind the curtain
Like, oh, I'm going, not an idiot.
They do ultimately win the battle.
And Farah's walking around the castle, and she sees Tarquin.
And he's still really, really mad at her.
He's not ready to forgive her quite yet.
Oh, he's mad.
No.
I can't be mad at Tarquin.
Oh, we just love Tarquin.
The best, and he was wronged.
And they really never explained themselves or anything.
But because of this attack, they decide they're going to push up
the roundtable meeting of all the high lords and decide to meet in the dawn court.
Everybody shows up.
It's quite a cast of characters that can get really confusing.
And I was hoping Amy could just give us the Cliffs notes on who's there and just some of their idiosyncrasies.
It was overwhelming.
And I know Amy loved, like this was one of her favorite scenes.
But for me, I was just so overwhelmed.
I actually enjoyed this part too because there's so much.
You get little, little bitty speckles.
of character development.
Like this one is bisexual
and this one only likes guys and she's married to a woman.
They all have their little like beefs
with each other and yeah so
the Don Quart like Jenny said
one of my favorite scenes. So it is
quite a cast of characters as you said Jen
but I love the writing
describing this place.
They come into these like enormous pink
clouds. It's a dawn court so it's the
dawn and this castle is
created by Sunstone
it looks like it's gleaming like
a thousand sunrises, they say. And so it just absolutely beautiful. And of course,
so Fara's never happy. So she gets a little jelly and, you know, can we decorate?
And Morfkin's even like, ooh, how did you on the decorating? And so they're all coming in
and awing over this gorgeous place. We are met with Theson, who is the Don Court High Lord.
and he is flanked by his male peregrine lover slash warrior so he's got this lover and then we have helian who is the day court high lord and so he is he's the spell cleaver right and he is kind of the freaky deaky one of the bunch you know he's very i love him he's really just smooth and he's got these big bulging brown biceps and he is just really sensual and he is just really sensual and he's very i love him he's really smooth and he's got these big bulging brown biceps and he is just really sensual and he's
loves the group stuff. Like he loves men and women. He does not discriminate. He lands everybody at the
club. Oh, he'll talk to anybody at the club. At the club, we all damn. I know, but I do love when he
tried to put on the smolder with Nesta and she had nothing to do with it. And he's like, ooh, damn,
that doesn't happen. Because that usually works. What happens? That usually works. But in the meeting,
he was an asshole and people fear him.
And they were falling for his act.
And then we see him later hanging out with Raysand and they're like, they're chummy.
They're buddies.
He's a great guy.
So for the rest of the book, you love him.
You love him.
At first you're like, who is this guy?
He's horrible.
He's just got this cold voice and he's intimidating and very icy, icier than Callias
over here in the winter court who is with his wife and mate Vivian.
And I love this scene because Vivian is BFFs with Moore and they haven't seen each other in ages.
So they just run to each other and they're laughing and they're crying and they're embracing.
And they're just gossiping like little school girls catching up and it was just so cute.
And this was like the cutest that we've seen more.
She was just really cute about her friendship and catching up with her.
So those are the three that were initially there.
Joining us later is Baron and his wife who's, you know, beaten down poor.
wife and his good for nothing sons. And so they're about to start this meeting. All the chairs are full
around this table. And then poof, there's a crack and comes Tamlin from the spring court. So that is
where the chapter ends. And so we're like, dun, dun, done, da. And Tamlin comes in like a total
asshole, right? So he's giving these looks to Farah, just giving these death stares at her. And he is
trying to throw her off her game and he's trying to belittle her. He finds out that she's the high
lady, but it doesn't mean anything to him. He looks at Reese and says, you know, when she climaxes,
does she make that little noise for you? And just does these gross things to just make. Roodle.
Yeah, yeah, just tries to like diminish her and humiliate her. He was childish. He has wounded pride.
You know, I didn't really blame him, though. Could you really blame him? Like, that guy got screwed.
He had a coming.
I was conflicted.
I mean, I was glad he was kind of a little bitch and got his peace out.
Yeah, he was pissed.
We're seeing that they're all kind of accusing each other of double crossing.
Tamlin is saying that Resan had a part of the death in the winter court and all of the little children that got killed because the Amarantha did that.
And Resan was like, I had no part of that.
And then they're saying that why is Tamlin here?
because Tamlin has been partnering with Jurian and is he a double agent?
Nobody trusts him. Nobody trusts him. But he comes with all of these papers of these plans that
hibern his plans. And so, you know, everybody's kind of side-eyeding each other across the table.
And so, yeah, it was a very interesting scene to me. I really loved it. And like you said, Jen,
you know, they're throwing shade. But what Reese and Fahira did going into this was instead of putting on this front,
they were going to be honest about who they were.
And they were going to share what happened with Nesta and Elaine.
They were sharing who Riesand is as a person and just being honest so that they could see
the real them.
And really, it was a risk for even Reese to share his wings.
They were all surprised to even see that he had wings.
But it was interesting to me, too, that Fahara shows her powers to all of them.
And what was it that?
Oh, she got mad.
She got mad at Barron.
Yeah.
Unleashed her.
Yes.
And unleashed her powers on him.
And then everybody saw.
She did two or three tricks.
And they were like, whoa.
And then all the lords that were like, oh, they're all realizing.
Yeah.
They're like, you took my power.
I'm going to take credit for that.
I'm going to take credit for that.
Yeah.
That was kind of funny.
Well, and Farah said, look, I didn't take your powers, guys.
You gave it to me.
They're mine now.
And I'm going to do with these powers with.
what I want to do, and that is to beat Highburn. So let's all quit bitching. Please don't kill me. I'm
tired of the fear of you guys having my head on the block because you want your powers back. No,
they're mine now. Yeah. So they agree that the Spring Court needs to be evacuated. And they all,
you know, there's an antidote for the Fabane, which reduces their power. And that's one of
Hyburn's biggest weapons. And they all kind of agree it'd be a good idea to take that. A couple of
other things that happen while we're here. Fahara does a little dirty math and realizes that
Lucian's father is actually healing. I know. I know. So the bisexual party guy. She's like,
wait just a minute. So this makes a lot of sense because Lucian's dad has always hated him. He's
never really looked like his brothers. Has a little darker skin. Yeah. Yeah. And the
threatened by him at all because he knows he's never going to be the high lord yeah exactly and then
another thing that happens is morgan has sex with helium which is kind of random and she does this
really sad walk of shame the next morning and it also just crushes yeah as real and we all feel like
why'd you do that like nobody understands why she did that but then a wave of power
passes over the land, ultimately indicating that the cauldron has destroyed the wall.
Yeah, while they're all there. Nesta gets really sick. She's tied to the cauldron and the things that
happened to it. And so when that happens, she gets really, really sick. So then they're like,
we got to protect the humans because the wall is down. The queens are not going to protect them.
They decide they're going to ask Elaine's, I guess, ex-fiancee at this point, if they can keep the
humans safe because they have a lot of land and they have a lot of like ash trees and things to protect
them from fairies and lane says i'm going like glamour me make me look human again and i'll go ask him
phara and all the others his name is grason so they go to his house and they're asking him and his dad
what asshole redneck yeah redneck don't like fairies they ask if they'll shelter the humans and
they kind of put up a fight and then Grayson says to Elaine like, I know I already know you're a fairy.
I know this is glamour and you're full of shit. I know exactly what you are. They're all like,
hey, how'd you know? And you hear this voice go, I told him. And it's Jurian. Juryan's there.
Bap, bu. And he tells everyone that he's actually a spy and he's been trying to destroy highburn from the inside because he's really there.
to save the humans. Oh, I was so really... I was too, because we kind of liked him. I just have
liked him. I just knew I liked him. I just knew it. And now I'm like, oh, redemption. It feels so good.
And he's been using this ruse that he is out for revenge against Miriam and Draken. That's why he is so
believed by Highburn, because he's made everybody believe even all of his closest inner circle
that used to be friends with him, that he is just this madman. It turns out he was the one that
was the double agent the whole time. I love it. Yeah, and he feels bad about what he did to Miriam,
and he wants to apologize, but I don't know if she's going to accept just a little,
spoiler alert there. So he says that Hibern's planning to attack the following day, and he kind of
tells him their plans. Juryon says to resand, like, why didn't you read my mind? I mean,
we were together. I thought you were going to see my real plans, and I thought you would know in that
moment. And Reese San says, I just couldn't bear seeing Amarantha because he would live in
Amarantha's right. Yeah. And it was like, oh, he still just is so tormented by it. And it just
was really sad. So I don't want it. I don't want your eyeball to see what I went through. Thanks.
Yeah. He's like, I'll take a pass on your eyeball. But he does end up going into his brain to realize
that he's not lying. Like he really is a double agent and he's he's fighting for the good guys. But before they
leave elaine's fiance or ex-fiancee makes it real clear this relationship is over i want my ring back
he's awful like he just treats her so horribly i know she's so sweet it's just uh you didn't have to be so mean
about it i know but she doesn't give the ring back she keeps it on as a savage woman should ladies
always keep the ring yeah always you don't have to wear it though elaine you could go probably that
Hell yeah.
I would have taken it off, but I would have taken it off.
You weren't that wringling.
I would have gone to the...
Cobbler, make some earrings.
Cobbler, go cobble me some ink, some jubis.
Some bangles.
Yeah.
The last part of the book, the last third, this for me felt very never-ending.
You know when you've got a good book and you can't wait to pick it up?
I didn't want to pick it up.
And I just don't like war books.
And so I think that's...
That's my issue too.
Because it's a lot of war.
It's a lot of things happening all at once.
It's never ending torment.
And it's like Sarah, don't get me wrong.
The writing was beautiful throughout.
But it just felt like it was unrelenting.
There's a battle in the summer court and they put a glamour over the war camp so they can
ambush Highburn.
But there's a lot of mind games going on and Highburn's the best at it, right?
Like he's three steps ahead of them.
They go to where they think.
he's going to be and he's really not there's this is just a ruse and so pharaoh's like i don't have
time to mess around so here we are but another book another visit to the cereal right like yeah it's
so easy but by this time they're besties let's go get the cereal again yeah Elaine tells her where
the cereal is yep and she goes to to snare the cereal but the circle's expecting her and she's
like hey phara how's it going like i i knew you're long time no see i don't need to snare
I'll just tell you what you want.
Like the surreal actually has a lot of respect for her and you can tell that.
So they start having a conversation and the main thing she learns is that Nesta has to nullify
the cauldron.
And the cauldron thinks that Nesta stole something from it, which we were talking about earlier.
Before they learn more, Ianthe and two hibern soldiers show up and they shoot the surreal.
And it's a death shot and this is so sad because the serial is the oldest thing in print.
It was there before Prithian. It's heartbreaking and Fyra's heart is broken.
She realizes I brought this on.
And Iianthe knew, yeah, Ianthi knew that Fyward come looking for the Surreal.
So it was a setup.
Ianthi is such a bitch.
Wow.
Yeah, she had a tracking device put into a cloak.
The surreal likes raw chickens and cloaks.
Like if you want to catch it.
Here's a cloak with an apple eyedag stuffed in the pocket.
Exactly.
What a bitch movie.
Real Apple I tags will tell you there's an apple tag following you around.
This cloak didn't do that.
But the surreal knew, you know, obviously Ianthi's there to kill Fahra.
So this was really kind of awesome because they happened to be pretty close to the Weaver's house.
And Fahra realizes that because, you know, she almost died there.
Right.
So she runs towards the Weaver's house and she goes in and the Weaver's like, hey, I smell my brother.
These twins are so.
so she doesn't match she's like hey thief she calls her thief because she remembers you took my ring
and she says what are you doing here and so just then ianthi and the two guards barge in and she goes i brought
you some dinner and then phara runs out of there and slams the door behind her get right out of there
she's like oh yeah sucks to be you guys bye because she deserved it you know yes oh she deserved all of it
But before Fahira left to go snag the serial, she tricked Morgon.
And she said, hey, Morgan, you should really get down there.
They need your help.
I'll be right here.
Don't worry.
And then she took off.
So while she's gone, everybody's worried about her.
And Helian happened to be in the woods at that very time.
And he brings her back to everybody.
And Morgans really, really mad.
So she and Fahra get into a fight, not like a physical fight, but like a girlfriend
fight.
like she's Morgan's like how very dare you and how could you and then pharaoh says well what about all the
things you do you're you're leading as real law and you're not honest either and it just sort of gets
it's a lot of back and forth like total deflection by oh i know like personal and like below the belt
here's the belt and here's where they go like way down to the nether's yeah you left without
telling everybody well you're a whore i mean it's not the same pharaoh no because there's
so much book, I'll just condense this little argument between the two of them and tell you that
they make up. And Morgan basically admits to her, like, I'm never going to have those kind of
feelings for Asriel because I really prefer to swim in the lady. Yep, that's right. She likes
both sexish. She likes to have fun, but when it comes to romantic love, it's all about the ladies.
I didn't really understand her by her reasons why she wouldn't just tell everybody. It's like Prithian's
pretty progressive. So I don't know.
know what her problem is. Yeah, especially after you made all the high lords and they're a king,
you know, he's just a lesbian, who cares? There was a couple lesbians at the last meeting. Nobody was
judging. So, anyway, so now we know, that's why Morgan and Azrael will never get together.
So meanwhile, Nesta finds the cauldron and she can go to the cauldron in her mind and she sees
Hibern and his armies and Fahra's with her. Fairo's in her brain. When you're reading the book,
it really makes. But now I'm repeating it and I'm like, this is ridiculous. But so Fah was with her and they can
both see what's going on because she went through the cauldron to see. And it's like, holy shit,
his armies are so much bigger than we even thought. And this is going to be bad. So they come back.
Well, worse, but they saw her. They saw them. Yeah. The cauldron knew that she opened up a portal,
basically, that enabled them to kidnap Elaine. So they realized really quickly that Elaine's been kidnapped.
And of course, Asriel's just, because he's got a little thing.
I think that, oh, I really, there's something there.
He's got a little heart for her.
And he just like, I'm going to go get her.
Fyra glimmers herself to look like Ianthe, because nobody knows yet that she's been
eaten alive by the weaver.
And so she goes into the camp and Juryan sees her and he knows right away.
He's so clever.
I know.
He just got it.
No, he's always on to her.
But also, there's a.
human there that's being tortured. I think it's one of the children of the blessed. Yeah. Yeah.
I was going to say children of the boy. I mean, they kind of are. Tomato tomato. They're moderately
creepy lightweight. But this poor girl is just being hung by her arms and like tortured in the
middle of the camp. And it sounds like they just string up a new one every day. Like it's a really
sadistic and evil place. And Juryan's just, he's sick about it. But he's like, you know, I can't
save all of them. I got to think about the big picture.
here. Fahara's like, I'm not leaving without her. And so he tells her where to find a lane.
They get a lane. Jury and take, because he knows Faira is not going to let it go. So he gets the
human girl and leaves her by the cliff, like, they're up on your way out, basically. Right. And so
they're running and they're in, and Asriel makes them invisible just long enough to get a head start. But
eventually, Hibern realizes they've got a lane that they're making a run for it. They've been
infiltrated. They're running for their lives and she needs to fly because Asriel gets wounded.
And so she gets her wings out just as she's getting attacked, Tamlin saves her.
He comes in his beast form and all his golden glory beast. Yes. And he saves her from the vicious
animals that are the king's people, the coming after her. And then she's got her wings out, but she knows like,
I've never been able to fly before, but she's really digging deep into that story about the little fairy with the junkie wames, you know? And she's like, I think I can. I think I can. Let's go in a fail.
Oh, digging deep. She takes off and she didn't have a shot in hell. But Tamlin gave her a gust of wind. And she knows it's the spring wind that's basically carrying her out of there. So he not only saved her life, but he exposed himself as a double agent. So now Hibern knows what he's been up to.
and he can't go back there.
And now he's made an enemy of highburn, which isn't good.
In my opinion, look, Tamlin's not a great boyfriend.
Don't go back, Fahara ever.
But he did redeem himself to some degree for his lack of action under the mouth.
It's kind of a redemption art for Tamlin.
And from here on out, you know, later books, you kind of feel sorry for this guy.
And I just hope he gets a little bit of, maybe just get a little piece of action or something, you know.
Get his mind off of Fara.
I know.
He doesn't even know.
My priest's is gone.
That was like his main person.
And his best friend is gone.
I mean, this guy is he's had a rough guy.
Yeah.
It's had a rough year, you know?
The main thing is they leave there and they're like, this final attack is bigger and
badder than we ever imagine it could be.
And so they're like, let's get the humans out because they know they're going to the
mortal lands.
They winnow them out.
And Tarquin says they can stay at the summer court.
Nobody else wants the humans in their land.
But Tarquin's like, we'll take him here.
Yeah.
We love Tarquin.
I love him.
I know.
So before the big battle starts, the inner circle is having this moment.
And I thought, even though this was in the part of the book, I like the least, this brought me to tears.
Like one of my favorite lines in the book, they're all assuming, we're not all going to make it out of this a lot.
Yeah.
And it's kind of sad.
And they're saying nice things to each other.
And Rysand sends a message to Farah through the bond and says, I would have waited 500 more years for you, a thousand years.
And if this was all the time we were allowed to have, the weight was worth it.
So beautiful.
Because you know they have like a 500-year age gap.
Yeah, they do.
And they've like in Ferry kind of timeline, they've only known each other for like five minutes.
Exactly.
I know.
I know.
So, okay, here's the ragtag band of warriors that they've got on the good guy's side.
Okay.
I just sort of thought I'd put them all in a group.
So Fahra made another deal with the monster at the library.
Her name is Braxas and basically says to Braxas, I need your help with this war.
let's make another deal.
What do you want for me?
And all she really wants is a window.
She just wants some company and some windows so she can get a skylight up in there.
It's not bad.
Like, he's quite lonely, you know?
So do a favor is like, deal.
She gets her tattooed.
And then she goes and gets the mirror.
And so for as long and lengthy as this book was on every other detail, the mirror part to me was like, oh, it was hard.
But I got the mirror.
We were expecting something.
It revealed the monster that.
I am. What does that mean? What did you see? Like snaring the cereal. Like what was the big deal? So she gets
the mirror. She takes us to the bone carver and he's like, I can't believe you did it, but I really didn't
want the mirror. I just want to see if you could get it. And she's like, what? But whatever.
It deals with deals. So now you're, you're my warrior too. And then meanwhile, the reason Helian was
near the Weaver's cottage when Thayer was there was because he was making a deal with the Weaver.
So she's going to help them too. So now we've got brother and sister reunited. And he, the
The bone carver looks kind of terrified, but they work it out.
And then we've got the other monster.
And they're doing great until they aren't.
I mean, Hyber's armies are relentless.
And this is the part where it just kept getting longer.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know, it reminded me, I don't know, I'm going to be geeky a little bit.
But like, Lord of the Rings, it just seemed to get more awful and more awful.
And then you think that.
There's more orcs coming.
There's more orcs.
And you just feel this like never-ending doom.
Right. And then it's like next up to save the day, Tamlin and Barron and Grayson show up. So the ex-fiancee brings the human army and the like all the people we thought weren't going to show up for us. They show up to save the day. And they're doing great until they aren't. And then his dad shows up and he's got a fleet of ships.
Amy told us in the first book he'll have a redemption arc and here it is. Like he has been worthless for years and years. His daughters, especially, Nesta, just does.
not have any respect for him. But he comes with this fleet of ships. He found the missing queen
and he's named the ships after his daughters. So I'm leading the charge as the Nesta. It's not the
Nina Pinta and Santa Maria. It's the Nesta, Elaine, and Fara. But the daughters are like,
wow, dad, thanks. They're really surprised. So then he's doing great until he isn't. And then
Drake and and Miriam show up. They're here to join the party too. And it just,
one more ally after another, but it's still never enough. Still never enough. And then Amaran and
Fahra are racing to the cauldron because Amaran says, I think you can do what we need. Does her
arm get stuck in the cauldron? They're supposed to like do this together. Yeah, like a spell.
And yeah. And so Amran takes the book of breathing and like kicks it away. So like Fara's like stuck
to the cauldron and she's looking at Amaran going, holy shit, you are a traitor. And so
She is thinking, what the hell is happening here?
Yeah, and Aaron's like, I'm sorry I lied to you.
Yeah.
And she basically...
And it does look like for a hot second, she's...
It took me a minute to realize she wasn't a bad guy.
And she said, I just want to get free.
But ultimately, what she wants is to be freed from her body so that she can finish off
this war for them.
Meanwhile, we've got Nesta.
Basically, the king has their father with a knife to his throat.
and he's using him as a human shield and Nesta's coming up to them.
And he kills their dad, which is like super sad.
And he wounds Cassie.
And he snaps his neck.
And so like it comes in the later book like just how significant that that snapping sound was.
Like it was really a loud crack of his neck.
And it just really traumatized Nesta.
Yeah.
She's not okay at the end of the scene.
No.
But Cassian also wounded by the king.
And so Nesta, you know, at this point, she's interested in Cassian.
At the very least, she likes the guy and appreciates him.
So she's trying to protect him and lure the king away from him.
And she almost gets herself killed.
And then Elaine comes up from behind with Asriel's sword.
She stabs the king and she kills, Elaine kills the king.
Stabs him in the neck.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, and then nest a twist.
Oh, ho, ho.
To make sure the job's done.
But it's still not enough.
The battle's still going on.
they don't know the king is dead. And so Farah's like, oh, no. Okay, then Amaran. She goes in the
cauldron, comes out as a beast of some kind. She basically kills the rest of the bad. Yeah,
she finishes the war. It was hard to kind of picture what she turned into just this massive,
flaming light that just torched everything. Like this golden, like just, it was just penetrating
everything. We were hoping, like, we would finally know what she was. We know she's like, thousands and
thousands of years of last podcast, I'm like, she's a dragon. And I'm like, well, it kind of
sounded like she could have been a dragon because like she turned into. It was something crazy,
but you know, whatever it is. Yeah, this part was a little confusing to me. But she kills all the
bad guys. And I'm thank goodness we think this war is done. But no, no. We're not done yet because
Fahara destroys the cauldron and breaks it in three pieces and then realize, oops, I shouldn't
have done that because we need that to survive. So now we got another problem, which
is that we need the cauldron back and Fara Brokett. She and Resan together with their powers,
put the caldron back together, but it takes so much out of Resan that he dies. And I'm like,
are you kidding me? And really, after all of this, now Resan is dead? Like, I mean, Sarah,
come on. This has just been just unrelenting. Unrelenting. I was in the bath listening to,
I do it via audiobook. And I was like, are you kidding me? I was,
I was pissed. I was crying. I was like, are you kidding me with this? And yeah, not not a fan of this
scene. No, I just thought the whole last part of the book was just, it could have been trimmed for me a
little bit. But so ultimately the high lords do that trick again where they give everybody a little
bit of their power, like that little sparkle trick that they did for Fahra under the mountain.
The Rysand comes back to life. And while he's added, he brings Amarin back to life. So now they're
what was significant about that. And a part of Tamlin's redemption arc is that, like, he had gotten
the light from all of the high lords except for Tamlin. And Tamlin was very apprehensive.
And he told Farah, he wanted her to be happy. He said be happy. And then he gave me happy.
I think he's been doing some reflecting. Have you been getting some therapy, old tamp?
Yeah. He's been doing some reflecting. Maybe some anger management. Maybe. Yeah. Maybe a little bit of
where she felt the mating bond like dissipating. But from his side, when he was dying, that was the only thing that was keeping him hanging on. And so while he was dying and kind of in this, you know, other world, he grabs on to Amran. And so when he comes back, he like drags her along with him. So she's, she's back with him too. So it's a twofer.
Lucian's back too. He found the queen with the dad. Like they all kind of met up at the same time. And Farrah officially meets Miriam and Dr.
and they have like a cute little reunion.
And then she gets to meet her hero.
Nefell, she does say it's been nice meeting all of you.
Could you do me a favor and take this cauldron with you on your way off?
Yeah, yeah, no pressure or anything.
Like you have the most powerful thing that you have to protect that everybody's going
to be coming after.
But, you know.
In their secret city that nobody knows about.
And so, yeah, good luck.
Thanks.
Thanks for doing us a solid.
Then they go, they go back to Valeris.
and Lucian goes to.
Lane is interested, like, from afar in Lucian, but he joins them back.
So it's kind of sad because he and Tamlin, you want them to make up, you know, like they're
not looking at each other.
Their little bromance is in a sad breakup right now.
And so you're kind of feel for Tamling because his whole court hates him now.
Everyone thinks he's a traitor.
I mean, he has no one on his side.
And now he doesn't even have a girlfriend or a best friend.
No, or even a little sex partner.
Zianthe is she's like now threads over in the Weaver's Cottage.
Yeah.
Thank goodness.
I don't, I wasn't sad about that.
But so then at the end, Reese and Fara make a bargain that when they die, they're going
to die at the same time.
And so they get tattoos about it.
Then they fly off into the starry night.
And thank goodness, this book finally ended because I didn't think it was going to.
I imagine like, because Fara has gotten so many tattoos in this book.
I picture her to just be like this biker.
bitch with like sleeves in her allerian leathers.
This was so far this has been my least favorite in the series.
But again, we didn't even talk about the spice.
What did you guys think about the spice in this?
Well, I thought the spice was inappropriate time.
They would be having sex up in the Illyrian camp in a tent.
And it's like gross and damp and they've just been fighting.
And they've got like probably some funk taken off their leathers.
And they've got some Illyrian leather nethers.
Because they don't breathe very well.
They don't breathe very well.
And, you know, tents don't have any soundproofing.
So probably all these other disgusting gross guys can hear them.
Like, ugh.
No spice did it for me.
Yeah.
No.
I guess there were moments, but they weren't moments I thought we needed to talk about
because I agree they were kind of gross.
It was like, you guys are going to do it right now?
Like time and a place.
And at the dawn court with all the high lords there,
she had to apologize, Therese, because she wasn't in the mood to have sex with Tamlin under the same roof.
I'm like, yeah, and that's kind of weird. Why are you apologizing?
That's just common sense. Yeah.
Yeah, and everyone can hear us? Like, though. I guess we can say what we've rated this book, Jenny.
What were your thoughts on that? I felt a lot of the similarities that you did, Jen. The first third was just great.
I felt the last third, it gave me dress. It gave me heart palpitations. And I'm like,
I'm just not enjoying reading this. So I would say it's about two and a half stars to me.
So Amy here, I actually enjoyed the war scenes a little bit more than you girls. It is long and
there's a lot of different twists and turns, but I kind of liked it. So I'm going to,
I'm going to say three and a half stars. I'm right in the middle. I'm going to give it three stars.
I still think the writing is beautiful. I just, I struggle with books that have unrelenting
torment, like, and I've read a few, you know. If you've ever read the book,
a little life. It's 800 pages and it's unrelenting torment. It's beautiful, but it's misery porn is what it is.
You know, I don't want to. I know. It's like, why would I read this when I could just live my life in this
crazy world that we live in? That's hard enough. I don't need to read about it, you know?
We're all living our own wars right now in this world. Yeah. So I would say three stars and then
spice wise. There was spice. Like you said, but.
I would say it was probably a two and a half.
I would say too.
Yeah.
I mean, there's some spice.
I mean, if you're kind of into that funky stuff, you know.
Yeah.
That doesn't bother you.
Funky fairies.
Funky face.
Yeah, if you're in your funky face, you know, you might enjoy this.
So next up, we have a quart of frost and starlight.
And this is the novella.
Right.
So this one is a little bit shorter.
And I'm looking forward to this.
And Amy, you can confirm by it.
I think this has all been a first person telling with Farah.
So I believe Cordofrost and Starlight is actually third person.
Yep, this is where the-
And it kind of sets us up.
Yeah, because from here on out,
Fara is not the main narrator in the rest of the series, actually.
That's going to be weird.
It will be weird, but we've also sort of wrapped up her storyline.
Like, I think we're in a good spot.
I wanted to meet the baby because we saw it through the carvers eyes.
Oh, TBD.
All right.
I was going to say, Amy is the only one of us that has finished this series.
You and I are at the exact same spot just finishing this one, Jen.
So Amy just said.
We'll be talking about that one next week.
