Starting point is 00:00:00 But that's why sometimes you think there's this very long pause after you say something, and there really isn't. I think it's sometimes I say things that are really crindy and it's okay. Book of literature fans. We're in for some boozy bookgasms today. Join three cousins creating a titillating headspace where steamy romance novels collide with strong cocktails. So sit back. Sip slow and enjoy the ride. Welcome back, literature fans.
Starting point is 00:00:41 I'm Jen. I'm Kim. And I'm Lynn. So today we are going to do a quick recap of our first season of boozy bookgasms. We are talking about the cringiest moments, our favorite MMCs, the best, the worst, and some aha moments we found along the way. But first, what are we drinking tonight? All right. Today we're going to have the last word.
Starting point is 00:01:02 Now, I have subbed out the gin. I can't stand gin. Nasty. So we're going to do some mescal. Green chargers, maraschino liquor, and lime juice and put it in a nice big, tall glass, and sip wildly. It's going to be delicious. Wildly. I don't know. I like mescal, but I also like gin. So we'll see. I might switch it back out next time you drink. No way. So speaking of alcohol, liquor, what was you guys his favorite drink that we? we made this year, or I guess this season. Oh, that's a good question. You know, I'm probably going to be the worst at this because I'm like, oh, I'd like this and this. But I would say that our first book, I drink champagne all the time. So I really enjoy drinking champagne. But for like a different out there would never drink this on like a normal basis. I actually liked the jungle juice.
Starting point is 00:01:53 Like it was a little sweet. It was a little sweet. But like it was good. I could have like one or two of those sip on them while we were drinking. It was nice. I went peppermint white Russian. on this one because I just, I don't know. It's the season and it's delicious. I love pepper. Yeah, I'm with you, Lynn. I went to jungle juice just because we had it that night and then I made the big batch of it. And it was so good.
Starting point is 00:02:19 And it was very festive and it was fun. But I didn't hate the kinky monster either. The color was a little funky. It was like dessert. Yeah, it was more like a weird, jolly rancher cotton candy. kind of feel. But I like the color. The color was cool.
Starting point is 00:02:37 Yeah. My third choice was the Nogrodi that we had with Dante. That was on my list off. Yeah. And it was a bit more like mainstream, I guess, too,
Starting point is 00:02:46 than some of these others that we've gotten a little creative with. Yeah. No kidding. I have a couple of questions for you guys about this season. So I'm going to start it,
Starting point is 00:02:54 but let's kind of round robbing because I know we all have like favorite moments. We have really yunky moments. I have some of like cringy sessions. So if you could pick one book this whole season, turn it into a movie, and you play the lead female role. Which one would it be? And tell me why. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:14 So I said perfect fit and that I would play Lily because it's a really good mix of romance and action. And at the end of that episode, we had already envisioned the movie where there were like fires going off, the mansion's burning down. She's limping out of their clothes torn. She's just a total badass. So I feel like that would be the funnest one to do. Plus, she's with like three hot guys the whole time. So sign me up. Lynn?
Starting point is 00:03:45 Yeah. I actually did also pick perfect fits. I mean, considering they did have their epic grovel because they handled that situation horrendously. But they had the least amount of damage of all of our main characters this season. And they were all hot. I could totally like buy into all of the kink for all for all of them. And then who doesn't want to be taken care of by a bunch of rich billionaire cadi's. Billionaires are my favorite.
Starting point is 00:04:10 They are your favorite. But you're still in your like billionaire genre, I feel like. A billionaire mafia depends on my mood. Yeah. Billionaire is like your, it's a good starting point when you're going to read these trashy romance novels. I feel like it's always like a good one. But then, you know, you got to have your motorcycle club
Starting point is 00:04:31 era, mafia era. And now, you know, you're your smutty, like, fairy era, which I've been in for a while now. Now, I was torn. So I will tell you both of mine, so that we have a little bit of change up here. I did love Lily because, oh, my God, she got everything. She got three hot guys. She got the family dynamic. She got the career. She got her name on the company. I mean, she got everything. And plus, I mean, hot sex all the time. anytime. And the dogs. She got the dogs, which I still have issues with. And then my other one was Emma in Secret Santa. I just felt like that was such a Cinderella story. She worked her ass off. She wanted to be independent. So we're calling a good French charming. Is that? I don't know. He felt, he felt too hard too fast. I was like, he's amazing. I love it.
Starting point is 00:05:31 He was good with his hands. You know, and he had many. All right, Blando, I would really love to know, like, which book surprised you the most this season, either by exceeding your expectations or just being completely different than what sort of you anticipated. I know you guys raw dog some of these. Like, which one kind of just surprised you in any capacity? Jen, you want to go? Yeah, I have a feeling we may all have the same one for this, which was ours for Halloween. Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:00 Because I was not ready for tentacle sex. Nobody's ready for tentacle sex. Nobody. I actually didn't pick that one, which was, it did surprise me, but I didn't raw dog that one. I read the back. I knew there were demons. I knew it was coming. But I actually did pick five brothers on this one, the most surprising.
Starting point is 00:06:23 And only because Jen had such a visceral reaction to one of this author. other books and she just gave us so like so much context for that that I just I didn't know what to expect and I actually really like to. I had feeling you would like it. And and and but Ginny still didn't like it. Like just not her. It's just not her genre. Not the not the author for her. But I was most surprised because I kind of didn't know what to expect knowing like it was super popular. Jen had a really hard time with a prior book from this author. And so that was the one that kind of. I think we can say the other book was credent because I think I think I was telling you guys this too.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Like, same with five brothers. I mean, you either read it and you really like it or you just really don't. Yeah. That is really how her reviews go, which is why I thought it would be great for the podcast. But yeah, I had a feeling you'd like it, Lindsay. Yeah, I did like it. I mean, I'm kind of like pretty easy to please on these things, but I like to be more than I thought I would. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Well, I am curious. Did you guys have a DNF on the list? If we weren't doing the podcast and you weren't forced to read the books all the way through, would you have not finished one of these books? Yeah. And I'll jump in this one and nothing to do with the person who picked the book. So don't take a fed plan. But dear God, twisted.
Starting point is 00:07:49 I would not have finished twisted. I had a hard time. I didn't like the drug out for play with the quick climax in chapter 26. and then nothing the rest of the wrong. Nothing for me. Too slow, too many cringe phrases, a little bit too weird with his weird following her. And it wasn't my thing. I thought that was a quick read, though.
Starting point is 00:08:10 I mean, not my favorite. It was a quick everything. Except read. It was like one chapter of quick. I didn't have one on our list. Like some of them were more cringy than others. But none of them did I get through and say like, oh, I just want to put. this down. I read all of them. We picked some really interesting ones, very diverse range. And a lot of them
Starting point is 00:08:32 were just really fast, easy reads, even twisted, which I think was of a slower burn. Like, I really actually did like it. And I actually read that one in like a paperback book on vacation. So I really liked it. I read it. It wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. I think we all said that. But yeah, I like some all. I think it had higher expectations for me. I really thought it was going to be something different. And like you said, you read it on vacation. So it was a great beach read. And I was trying to pile through it and get through it. And I was like, this is not exciting. But if I was laying back on a on a chair on the sand, this would be a great read. And I'm surprised you didn't say hooked. I didn't think you liked hooked.
Starting point is 00:09:14 I still like, I mean, I still rated that like a three and a half. I think. And it was good and not. Like, it kept me going. I was still really curious, like what was going to happen. happened at the end. And I think I said this repeatedly during the taping of this, which is like, I should have read Peter Pan first so I could remember the character. That's true. So I just kept trying to remember like, is me bad or is he good? I don't remember. So I kept wanting to get to the end to figure it out. What about you, Jen? I'm honestly not a big DNFer unless the book is just really, really not for me. And I didn't think any of the books were so bad that I would have DNFed them. Five brothers potentially just because I knew one.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Actually, I knew after chapter one, I wasn't going to like the book. So I may have returned it on my candle if I could have. But I feel like today that you can't return an, because Audible is having a huge sale right now. You can't return an Audible book unless you buy it with a credit. Oh. Well, that's great. Because I have a lot of credits. But I'm like, well, I'm glad I only paid $2.99.
Starting point is 00:10:21 That would be the only one that I came close to being like, oh, I just don't want to finish it. And there's one that Lindsay selected that we didn't end up doing a podcast on. It may show up later. Just hang tight. Come on. You can't. Oh, I can't wait if we actually do. I don't plan to finish it.
Starting point is 00:10:40 It's sitting right here. It is literally right here. Well, I'm like really loving, like a lot of the books we're picking around Kindle Unlimited, which is quite nice. which is great. Agree. Okay, so this is kind of an interesting segue question. Okay, so okay, we read them all. We got through all of them, but were there any where you would have liked to have
Starting point is 00:11:01 rewritten the ending of the book? I don't think this is going to surprise you guys, but my brothers. Really. Rather than 18-year-old Chris Jen marrying a 31-year-old man who has PTSD and a lot of fucking problem. Maybe she goes to college. And, you know, grows up a little. I'm not saying they can't get together.
Starting point is 00:11:27 But, like, yeah, she goes to push you or something down there. And she comes back. And then make a more mature decision about whether she would like to be with a person like making. See, you have these like moral quandries of these books that I just eliminate completely when I'm reading these. Yeah. An 18-year-old girl, marrying a 31-year-old man who treated her like shit, 90% of the book, just wasn't great. I don't know what was fun about that. I don't know the age difference, but I have an 11-year age difference with my husband, so like the age difference didn't bother me.
Starting point is 00:12:05 Yeah, but he's nice to you. That's very bad. And you weren't. It wasn't 18. Well, I was 22. I was going to say, I met mine at 17. Yeah. We've got six years.
Starting point is 00:12:15 I don't know. I don't know. But he is also nice. He's also nice to you. He doesn't leave 20 bucks on your dresser after you have a check. And after a very intimate shopback moment, say, thanks, that was nice. And walk out of the room. G-string. I appreciate that, that relief. I actually would rewrite stuff. That was fine. I did not like that we dropped off with, you know, hydrated. guy and his friend. We don't know if they get together. Colin and Evan. I know, but you know, what I would like to see happen is they all come back for another holiday. Esme and Tuck have a baby.
Starting point is 00:13:01 Colin and Evan are dating now. Jude marries his assistant and Spence is leading some BDSM camp. Yeah. Somewhere else. You know, that's what I want to happen. Yes. They have BDSM for sure. agrees. Mine was stuffed too, so that's hilarious. We're all kind of thinking up on these. And it was for a similar reason. I didn't feel like when they came back the following year that they closed anything. They didn't close the loop on anything. They have this like incredibly raunchy Thanksgiving. And then they all come back and they have a dog and they're like having Thanksgiving together, but they're just not going to talk about the fact that they have like bunnies like a year ago. Like. And they have other dates. And the dates new. Are they doing it again? Is it? If I'm dating a new guy. And he's like, hey, by the way. Let's go to Thanksgiving. Just BT done last year. We did this. I don't know how it's going to go down this year.
Starting point is 00:13:57 You didn't ask for tests. But it could go either way. So be prepared. It's not weird. This year they were like, nope, back to normal. Like just a one. I've seen everyone's penis in this room. And I stuck my penis in the hostess.
Starting point is 00:14:13 Like multiple times. All of us have. Yeah. So yeah, I would have changed them. I'm not to think about it. Okay. As we're talking about gross, biggest cringe moment of this season. I know what mine is. 100%. I have two honorable mentions. All right. Let's hear them. Okay. Mine was and I think it's probably going to be the same as Kim's. Like, first place was like the everybody jizzing on Esme at the end of stuffed. They all needed to come around and like a seance. circle. They all came around.
Starting point is 00:14:48 It just feels like the right thing to do after a game. Weird. But I did have, my other cringiest moments were in hours for Halloween. And there's kind of like a runners-up. The tentacles thing was just freaking weird to me. Like, I just really had a hard time with it. And then the... Those sounded like they came in handy to me. And then the morgy, like just really... Oh, yeah. That was gross. The murder orgy was just really just didn't need to have.
Starting point is 00:15:18 I've forgotten about the murg. I think that's where we started blending words for the entire rest of the season. Wait? Yeah. That wasn't Kim's special. Morgy. I'm with you. The Banks Giving Jizz.
Starting point is 00:15:34 Crispy sheets. No cleaning. One after the other. I just, yeah, I really struggled with that. And also, the morgy was a lot. Nobody is prepared for tentacle. sex. No. With horns or the horn thing. Oh, yeah. They got horny when you touched the horns. Yeah, it's literally horny. Well, I didn't pick either of those. I went with the vacuum.
Starting point is 00:15:58 That was cringy for you. I thought that was so creative. I'm like Home Depot should have a special at that point. I'm like, it's just a different sex toy, I mean. It's right. It worked. It did its business. You know, clean carpet with? Well, you don't know what he's cleaning with that. It's in the garage. Maybe she lives in the swamp, for God's sake. That's probably the cleanest she's been.
Starting point is 00:16:25 Rose. What were some of the funniest or most ridiculous moments? So maybe not cringiest, but sort of just. Oh, I got this one. Okay. The hydrated moment. When they talk about, was it Colin? Who, in stuffed, who they.
Starting point is 00:16:44 very descriptively talk about how this guy's coming so much and they can't figure out what. Like above average. This guy is super hydrated. That was like, like you literally pause and go, what? What is he? Hmm. Interesting. But I, that one, I teared up when I, when she starts describing it.
Starting point is 00:17:12 That's how it is. funniest moment was when Logan told Emma he was an evil Santa with a big dick. So romantic. My most ridiculous is back in freaking hours for Halloween when the main male character, I mean the three of them, but the first one, like, took her up into the air and started screwing her upside down in like the middle of the sky. It just, it was almost more ridiculous than the tentacles for some reason for me. It just kind of caught me by surprise. It's because you, you got to try and visualizing. I did.
Starting point is 00:17:49 I have to visualize it. Wait, I have, let me get something to draw with. Yeah. And then you're like trying to sketch it out. I thought it was ridiculous. It was funny or ridiculous. It was pretty ridiculous. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:00 I like a helicopter right. Kind of, but I agree. Like I had to visualize it. Lots of arm strength. Like really wondering how this was going to be like how this was going to really. happen? He probably used his scale to help him. Or his claws. I don't know, that whole book. His teeth, the giant teeth. It's so weird. Okay. Hotest main male character. And what actor or person would you put in that spot? I can go. So this is easy for me, Dante.
Starting point is 00:18:33 Too. And I, I'm thinking a young, like, Andy Garcia. Interesting. I remember her from a life when a man, not the woman. Yeah, like, but a younger version. Okay. I don't know. He's like dark and yummy. Lynn? He is dark and yummy. I was going with West Archer from The Perfect Fit.
Starting point is 00:18:54 I thought he was like my hottest. And maybe you've got like a Glenn Powell action here. Okay. Super hot. Could play like a young billionaire, I think. Or Scott Eastwood. Clint Eastwood sucks. super hot.
Starting point is 00:19:10 He was that. Oh, he is hot too. Hallmarky movie, the one where he was the cowboy. Yeah, he is cute. I also said Dante. I was like 100% Dante. But I picked some kind of weird actors for it. I picked Ian Summerholder.
Starting point is 00:19:27 Do you know who he is? Damien from Vampire Diaries. I know he's small, but he's a little bigger now. He's like such a dick. But it's like a, hmm, kind of dick. You know what I? mean, the yummy kind. Or the other guy is Theo James. If you remember Divergent, he's very big. He's, he's four on Divergent. And I was like, both of these guys, he's also kind of got a British accent or some
Starting point is 00:19:53 sort of accent that just makes you melt. He's in that TV show The Gentleman. Is it on HBO? Yeah, he's hot. Yes. So he's super hot too. But I just kept thinking they both play very broody, sexy men and they would be perfect. I could just vision that kitchen scene, with the, I'm sure it is that. So that was a good one. What else? Any other questions we would answer? The Smarleens towards our podcast, what episodes, regardless of the book, were your
Starting point is 00:20:21 favorite after they were finished or your favorites to tape and then which was your least favorite? One of my favorites to tape, which you guys may, like, you'll laugh at this, but was actually hooked because I was struggling so much. I was also probably the most drunk during the taping of that one. And we were all over the place. But I just laughed my ass off that whole night. We were taping that. And it just was really enjoyable.
Starting point is 00:20:48 And then to listen back, I just kept laughing. It just made it just smile to my face. But that's like insider baseball. I'll be interested to see what our fans think of that episode. But it was really fun. Mine was, again, apparently this made such an impression on me. Mine was stuffed when we start laugh, when we could not get off the freaking banana grams. I laughed so hard and we could not get past the bananagram games.
Starting point is 00:21:19 And, you know, Milton Bradley must have had stock in it. You most have trimmed that out. I don't think it made the final cut. It didn't make the episode. It was funny, though. What were you, Jen? That was actually my least favorite for the same reason that Lindsay, like, took. Because we were all over the place. because I was the drunkest.
Starting point is 00:21:42 What was your favorite? Which one turned out the best? My favorite to me, either Dante or Secret Santa. Secret Santa because we laughed and laughed. And it was just so many funny lines. And it was just silly. And I feel like Dante, because I just feel like we did a great, like it was a good episode. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:02 It was a fun one. I think it helps when we all really liked the book. Yeah. You know, like my least were probably between twisted and hooked. And I felt like twisted, we just didn't have the energy behind it because we all were on such different pages about it. And hooked, like you said, was all over the place. And I'm like the Peter Pan fan. So I'm like, but did you know? And I felt like I was giving more trivia. And Lindsay's like, why didn't I Google anything? I know. It was fun, but I felt like it was kind of crazy. Which is why I just do the drinks now. And that's why it's important. You did good with what you had.
Starting point is 00:22:41 Lindsay and I listened to that one together. And we were like, we were the worst. Every time I tried to get us back on track. We were like, hey, what about this other one of them? I like playing the bartender. And, you know, I have a few little things here and there to throw in. This season was really great. This is obviously our first one.
Starting point is 00:23:03 We kind of went in not knowing what we were trying to accomplish, just that we all had a love for these sort of trashy romance novels. And it's been just such a fun ride, season one. So I'm really looking forward to season two. We've got our books picked out. Should be an interesting ride. Yes. Those books will be posted on boozybookgasms.com. So go there to check out the reading list.
Starting point is 00:23:27 So while we are reading up for season two, we do have a special treat in store. I'm going to bring in a couple of friends who are avid Romantacy readers to help me break down the Akatar series. And we are talking fairy smut. So join us starting next episode for a court of thorns and roses. Yeah. This is actually one of my favorite series. I got into, I love it. You call it fairy smut. Romanticy, paranormal, a while back. And everybody was talking about this book. It's fantastic. And I did have read it multiple times. So I hope I can join you guys. Yeah. Maybe at the end. And just I can't wait to hear what you guys think being first time readers of this series. It'll be fun to listen to.
Starting point is 00:24:12 I've never read Ferry Smut. So I'm kind of excited to jump in as well. So I might jump on one or two of these calls just to figure out what's really going down in the forest. What height. I recently learned that a fairy's wing span also is an ticket above. Oh, my God. Is it like their foot size? Like their foot size?
Starting point is 00:24:31 Yeah. That's amazing. You must be like further into the series. I feel like that's like not book one. I'm two bucks then, so I think it was. Okay. So it's a whole lot of questions for me. It's so good.
Starting point is 00:24:46 There's some twists and turns in this one too. But a really healthy amount of fairy smut. So you all have fun. That'll be great. As I like read up for season two, we've got some good books. Yeah. I'm really excited about our reading list. So we're going to have a good time.
Starting point is 00:25:01 Jen, can somebody email us suggestions for books? They can. Yes. So if you do go to our website, there is a place at the bottom of the page where you can send us an email or a note or you can email me at gen at boozybookgasms.com. Also great places to get in touch, write comments. Definitely follow us. We're going to try and really, you know, kick that up for season two.
