Starting point is 00:01:35 today. The great Nate Bergatsy is with us today. Very exciting. Good friend of mine. So happy he could be here later. But now I'd like to welcome Nate Braczzi to the show. Very good comedian. I mean, come on, one of the best. So natural. Tennessee Kid on Netflix is, it's one of the best in recent years. He's got such a great way about him. He's got great stories. He has a new podcast of his own called Nate Land that just came out on All Things Comedy. So happy to have him.
Starting point is 00:02:06 So happy that he's a friend of mine and that I get to break bread with him today and introduce him to you. Please welcome Nate Burgatsy. Do you drink coffee? I do. I do. I have some ice coffee.
Starting point is 00:02:20 Ooh, nice. You've been going to Starbucks? How are things in Nashville? They're good. I mean, you know, they started, they're starting to do that, uh, taking down some of the phases, I guess like they were kind of pushing the opening and now mask or mandatory, uh, everywhere. And so, but everything's been, you know, people have been following the rules here. I don't know, you know, you've been doing good and, you know, you forget to wear your mask sometimes.
Starting point is 00:02:50 Like it's like you go in somewhere and then you're like, oh, crap. Like, you know. I know. Uh, such a new thing. I know. Even just like walking the dog and I was like went around and I see some people coming and they're like looking at me weird and I'm like what's their problem? I'm like oh my face is out.
Starting point is 00:03:10 Yeah. Yeah. I would think outside though like you should be fine, right? Isn't it? Yeah, I know. I love how we just all have to make up our own rules as we go along. It's just like we had my cousin came over. yesterday. She came in from North Carolina. And I just see her like coming up the walk, her and her son,
Starting point is 00:03:33 no masks, just like walking up. I'm like, oh, here we go. And just bursts in, gives us a big hug. Yeah. I'm like, we haven't had, we haven't hugged somebody for, yeah, since March. Yeah. Your wife's been sleeping upstairs. You're like, I haven't even, we haven't seen the same bad. Like, yeah. And you're like, well, no. I heard that it's not on surfaces. Well, I heard that as long as you don't have it like a lot of contact. And it's like, why am I the doctor now? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Why am I the one figuring this out? Yeah, a lot of, you know, that happens a lot. I, uh, I've, I've shook hands, you know, like you just end up, but you just someone's like, yeah, like, not, not like it's been a lot, but it's like you just happen. And then it's like, you're like, uh, right. I don't know, you just shake their hand. And then you're like, I don't know. It's just like an older guy.
Starting point is 00:04:26 and you're like, what am I going to do? When we're going to yell at this 80-year-old man? Like, you know. I know. He's the one in danger more than me. So I'm like, I'll shake you. Yeah, man. Let me shake your hand.
Starting point is 00:04:37 I'll shake your hand. Have you flown during this? I haven't. I haven't left since March. I think I came home, March 11th, 12th. And I took a tour bus home from there from Red Bank, New Jersey. So I haven't been, I haven't gone anywhere. I'm looking at like, I would go somewhere now.
Starting point is 00:05:00 Yeah, yeah. I did. I went to Salt Lake City. That was my first flight. Oh, yeah. And it was good. To do the show? To do the club?
Starting point is 00:05:11 Yeah, I did wise guys. I did two Friday, two Saturday. Yeah. Half capacity. And, you know, it felt like you were going into it. It's like half capacity. A little fuller than most for me. but that's the new joke for half capacity.
Starting point is 00:05:29 You're like, whoa, half capacity. You never seen a crowd like this before. I know. The other joke going around is half capacity or third. We'll see how it goes. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And everything was cool. Like there was, the only thing that was weird was, well, two things was waiting at the,
Starting point is 00:05:52 at the gate to go on your plane. that was kind of weird because half the people just no mask just like pulling it off and you know and you're looking at everybody and then when you get on the plane you know there's two people I flew first class because it's just Salt Lake City you know it's a quick flight so I figured I had better odds to be alone but then two people on both going out and coming back mask off yapping away and the flight attendants aren't saying anything it's like well you know I don't want to be the lease. I don't have that. Do you have that? Like, if you, could you, no, excuse me, like, start telling people what to do? I don't have that.
Starting point is 00:06:34 No, we, uh, I wouldn't say anything. And I would even, on that point, that's why you wear your mask. If they don't want to wear it, like, people are going to slip through the cracks. It's like, that, I mean, truthfully, I know, it's like not everybody, but like, those two people are talking like that, they're not, we're not going to, the country's not going to blow up because of those two people like if those two people live everywhere they're everywhere I get it like so it's like just be like be normal you wear your mask it's right it it gets weird if you start like you know uh you know those sometimes there's people that want to argue like they're trying to get you to say something now every every man over 65 is doing that yeah and because you know and so it's like
Starting point is 00:07:20 in that moment you got to do exactly what you did was it's like it's like you're you don't say anything. You have your mask on and then you're like, all right, it is what it is. And everybody else's where they're matter. You know, it's like if you. Yeah. There's nothing you can do. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:33 Yeah. No. I know, I said it to another friend of mine. He's like, oh, no, I would definitely would. I would tell them straight out. You know, you, I'm like, I don't live that way. Was that Nick Thune? That's the Nick Thune.
Starting point is 00:07:44 Nick Thune would do that. Well, there's people that are confrontational. Louis, Jay Gomez, extremely competition. He would say something. Dune would say something. Jay Larson, I'm trying to think of comics. Like, Jay might say something. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:00 People that, there are people that are wired, and they want that. They're looking for it. They love it. They look to be like, I can't wait to tell this person to put their mask back on. And I would love to hear their, you know, they want that dialogue back and forward them. I would never have. I can, I can maybe, you know,
Starting point is 00:08:23 Yeah, I don't know. I don't think everyone would be a conversation. I can maybe find some times where you can feel like I could be a little, you know, I have it in my, I had it with a DM, like a guy, uh, DM'd me. Uh, and I have a joke about dead horses and they lay down. Classic. Classic. Classic. That might be your hot pockets.
Starting point is 00:08:44 That might be my hot pockets. Uh, so they, it's, the horses lay down. They're asleep. That's the idea of it. I'll post pictures of horses laying down. a guy deems me saying why would I post these pictures of these dead horses and if he sees me he's going to punch me in the face and blah blah you know like all that I mean very aggressively wants to beat me up because I'm posting dead animal pictures so normally I would never respond to any of
Starting point is 00:09:09 that but I was pretty excited to let that guy I very nicely let him know hey I'm a comedian like you know I do a joke about like and just explaining it and then he never responded so So, but he saw it. And I was very, that's about, that's my confrontational when you get some, that teed up. That you're like, I, you're like, this is going to be kind of fun. Yeah, I'm insulated. I know I'm a thousand percent right on this. Yes.
Starting point is 00:09:38 Yes. Yeah. Yeah. If I, if I, if I were to say something on the flight, then the rest of the flight, I'm miserable. I'm miserable because now I think that they don't like me. I think was I aggressive? Now I know they're thinking about me and looking over.
Starting point is 00:09:55 I just, I don't have it. I don't have it in me. Yeah. I just want it to be nice. Yeah, yeah. I think you're like everybody else and no one else. You know, majority of the people would not say anything. They more jure to tell you that, and I would even say probably 75% of you,
Starting point is 00:10:11 they would tell you that you should have said something. Like no one. Yeah. If you're in that moment, it's very hard to, you know, honestly, like say something. They're like, what are you going to do? Like, you know. Yeah, there was a guy came to fix my stove and it was like a month ago. It was like in the middle of all this. And he'd been here before. Like he's worked on it before. And he came up, he had to come twice. And the first time he comes in, he comes in and he's laying on the gray. He has his mask on. And he comes in. He has his tools down. He's laying on the ground. I get some water. I turn around mask off. He's mask off in my kitchen. First human being that's been in our house. and I'm just looking at him like, what do I do I do I say do I say?
Starting point is 00:10:58 And really I was like I don't like theoretically he could be killing my family. Yeah, yeah. But still. Still, the awkwardness of telling him what to do. Yeah. So he's, he's, I just let him go and then he's done with it. He's standing up. He's giving me the estimate.
Starting point is 00:11:16 And I just went so you don't like the mask. and he goes Oh I don't know You know people wear So he leaves It doesn't make a big deal of it Comes back to fix the thing
Starting point is 00:11:30 He comes up with his bag Now he knows Tom's cool I don't have to I don't have to wear the mask And after discussing with my wife And everything I said to him Hey good to see you
Starting point is 00:11:41 Do you mind putting the mask on He drops the bag Like a kid with his backpack Just And marches off to struck to get like a big big display. I was like, oh, this is the worst. That's the worst.
Starting point is 00:11:58 You know what, buddy? Come on in. I hope you have COVID. Here's my family. Please cough on them. I can't handle this. I can't handle. Yeah, that's brutal.
Starting point is 00:12:08 I mean, a guy like that, you know, it's like, A, you can't act like that, but. No, be cool. Yeah. I'm saying, I'm saying it cool. You say it cool. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:22 They're in. And he's in like, you know, it's like going into someone's like, yeah, you got to just be like, yeah, like you got to like,
Starting point is 00:12:31 you just put it on. If you're running a business and you're like saying like these guys are coming to fix stuff, you got to be. Yeah. Like just wear it, man.
Starting point is 00:12:38 Like it's like, I don't know what to tell you. Like it's like just wear it when you go into these people's houses. Even they tell you no, just put it on. It's like, what if we get sued as a company? Like,
Starting point is 00:12:47 if someone tried to sue you or something. Like, you could ruin your whole business. I feel like that's the only, that's how you got to tell them. You got to say it like, I do have, I've always had this big, I have a big theory that you can tell someone the truth and be truly honest with someone. If you do it the second, like the thing happens, it can be fun. Right. So like if that guy shows up, you like, oh, wear a mask, dude, don't be weird about it. Like, and then you walk off.
Starting point is 00:13:12 Right. You said, like, it could almost like, all right, I know, I'm sorry. And then. Right. But like the second, the longer it goes, every second is like, works. Like, you know. Yeah. But even your, even the way you're doing it, you're like, you say it and then walk off.
Starting point is 00:13:27 Like, you can't stand there and take it. Yeah. Wear your ass, don't be weird, but then you got to get out of there. You got to get it. Well, you do. You got to make it fun. You got to make it, you know, I, it's, I would always say, like, someone called to ask you, if someone was like, hey, we take me to the airport.
Starting point is 00:13:41 And you just immediately go, dude, that's insane. Why would I take you to it? Like, they would be like, ah, you're right. I'm sorry. I'm just speaking. Then they would hang up and call someone else. But if you go, I don't know, let me see. And in the longer, I mean, even six seconds.
Starting point is 00:13:56 Well, now, now it's brutal. And you just got to take them to the airport. I feel like, I feel like the South has like a good way of doing that of making things, making things unpleasant, like have this veneer of, of niceness. Like they have a very, you know, oh, you bet your life. You know. Oh, you see. Look at you.
Starting point is 00:14:18 Oh, yeah. It's like they're going to, everyone knows you're calling me an a-hole, but oh, look at you. That's the bless your heart is the. Yeah, bless your heart. That's the big one that everybody always says, oh, bless this heart. And it could mean a few different versions. You can truly mean bless their heart like you, but it can, you know, it could be something's wrong with them. And you're like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:45 Yeah, I always find it. I like to look and see, you know, people that are very like, you know, being around like, like, Lewis. Yeah. He, he would be so confrontational. Like, uh, if something, he would just say it to the person. I remember just watching it and being like, I want, you know, like you see that. You like, God, I love that. Like it's.
Starting point is 00:15:09 Yeah. You know, and I mean, because then you, he can flip it to someone else to where then they do feel bad. like you know like that guy like if the guy wearing the mask like you ask that guy to wear the mask Lewis can ask that guy to wear a mask and that guy will be like yeah I'm sorry man I should have had it on versus being instead of being that guy being mad at you like they it's it's almost like they're good at that to like you know and it's just being honest they're not being rude I mean it could be taken as being rude a lot but don't like he Lewis like guys like that don't have that they don't have that thing that is
Starting point is 00:15:45 concerned at all with what other people are thinking about them. You know what they're like, no, I'm right. I'm good. And that's it. There's none of that, oh, does he like me? Was I mean? Is he cool? Like they don't have, that's the thing I really am envious of. The complete like lack of caring of whether or not this guy thinks I'm cool or not. Like that's, he's not even an important player in my little, in my little movie. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. That, that is true. And it's, um, I mean, I think they have to have to. have a they have it a little bit like Lewis does want people to like him like he well you know he has it it's not but it's like that doesn't overtake the other side right like it's not as where I get I'm with
Starting point is 00:16:30 you like it's yeah it's hard it's hard not to read uh it's you know something you can just brush people off and be like yeah like it's like you see people yeah I can see you they can easily just brush someone off and they're like well why do I care what that person thinks to me I don't Like that's the saying you're supposed to tell kids, why do you care what someone else thinks of you? When we would, as us as parents, me and you were both like, all I care about is what other people think about. That's what we're telling our kids. Only care about what other people think about it. Right.
Starting point is 00:17:01 And the more you don't know them, the more important that is. I mean, the strength, the more they are away from your life, that's the guy you need to make sure love you. You got to win that guy over at all costs. Were your parents that way? About, Were they like, my father would get in people's faces a little bit, if need be.
Starting point is 00:17:29 But your dad was an entertainer. Yeah. He's a magician. Yeah. So he would, my mom would. My mom would fight to the death for us. Like, you know,
Starting point is 00:17:41 a mom that's just, Yeah, could be, if you say anything remotely about her kids. Right. I mean, she'll just come kill you. Like, it's, you know, be kicked out of baseball games. Oh, yelling at an ump, like just screaming that. You know, just, yeah, just has no, like, you know, I mean, it's like true love. It's true.
Starting point is 00:18:05 It's like a mama, what is the mama bird or like, you know, it's like your mama bear. Mama bear. Like, yeah, you don't get in the middle of both of us. She will. do it. She will end it. How many brothers and sisters? I have one brother, one sister. Okay. And where are you in that? Oh, you're the oldest.
Starting point is 00:18:23 I'm the oldest. Yeah. Brother sister. Oh, you're the oldest? Yeah, I'm the oldest of three. Yeah, it's tough. We, you know, we, uh, I was like, my sister's nine years younger to me and like just grew up with different parents. Like, I was, you know, I, uh, I feel like my, my sister like got a tattoo. And then my parents got a tattoo.
Starting point is 00:18:46 And I'm, like, furious that the whole system has fallen. Like, why are they all getting tattoo? Like, it makes me so angry that they all have tattoos. And it's because my sister, like, I grew up. My parents were, you know, 20, I think 22 when I was born. Married, 22. They're so young. They had no money.
Starting point is 00:19:07 Think about a 22-year-old now. How much money they have. Zero. They have zero money. And we had me. Like, so we lived, you know, I don't, I mean, I remember some of, but I just, I remember being, I mean, my parents couldn't afford a happy meal at one point. It was 99 cents. That's when happy meals are 90s. They just didn't have any, they just, you know, they were just so young, no money. Nothing. This is an old hickory. Old hickory. Right. And then by the time my sister's born, and then, you know, when we, when she was in, when she was 10,
Starting point is 00:19:42 11, 12, like I'm now out of the house. My brother is three years younger than me, so he's about out of the house. Right. So she kind of grew up as an only child a little bit. And then my parents are obviously when they, by the time they hit their 30s, 40s, they actually is usually when people can make, they make money. Not that they're rich, but like they made money. They're rich compared to what I saw.
Starting point is 00:20:06 Happy meals for everyone. Happy meals for, you know, yeah. Yeah, not even a question. And they just grew up with, like she just grew up different. I mean, I was very strict, very, you know. Yeah. I don't know. It's just the world.
Starting point is 00:20:22 And then, you know, I don't know. Well, think about it. Not only do they not have money, they're freaking out. They don't know what to do. They don't know how to do things. So, well, we think a lot of times, I have the same thing. My parents were very young. And when you think about, like, while they were, they were strict, you know,
Starting point is 00:20:39 the first 10 years of your life, they're going through their 12. 20s. It's like they're panicked. They're figuring it out. They don't know what's happening. They're just yelling at themselves in the world. It's very little to do with us. Yeah. Yeah. It formed us. It formed us though. Yeah, absolutely. I know. I know. And especially is the oldest one because you were the experiment. Yeah. Yeah. Was your mom a cook? She did cook. You know, nothing crazy. Like wasn't this, you know, We didn't come from a big cooking family or like, you know, I like, I don't, you know, food's not like super important, you know, like obviously it's important to live, but it's not, I'm not, I wouldn't be a foodie. I wouldn't like, I can kind of go eat wherever.
Starting point is 00:21:29 And I do like, I try to even get better at like, you know, and I live in New York. It's like, I wasn't ever going out to these crazy restaurants or you got to go try this. I'm trying to get better at it now, like, especially. going on the road, like, you know, it's like, all right, go, go, like, see what this good restaurant is and try this thing. And I do, like, try and stuff, but, uh, but it wasn't, you didn't grow up with, like, that the food was like the heart of the, of the thing. Yeah. No. Do you have grandparents around? Uh, we, they, we did, but they lived in Louisville, Kentucky, but they, uh, they wouldn't have. I'm not, you know, we, I don't, you know, I just, I mean, maybe it's,
Starting point is 00:22:05 I mean, it's, it's just not like, yeah, it just wasn't, even in our family, I don't remember going to family outings and it being like really you know it was just kind of like food was like oh yeah we obviously need food so go get whatever but it was almost like getting together was the reasoning right right and the food was you know it's kind of healthy when the way you describe it it's like no we didn't need food to fill in the silence like we're cool to be with each other yeah we yeah we yeah I think you mean like healthy like eating well I was like well the food we got wasn't good It was like KFC and like like like now it was extremely unhealthy food. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:48 You know, I mean, yeah, it's like it just, we didn't know one like in, I think like had that big like, you know, where there's a lot of southern families that like it's cooking is a big deal. And like yeah, that kind of stuff. Right. You know, I'm trying to. Yeah. Yeah. It's a big. You know, my, I mean, my wife, I don't feel like.
Starting point is 00:23:10 Yeah. cooks and I love her cooking but she's not going to be you know she's not it's not some special we order fresh direct a lot and she you're right cooks that like it's not like it's this crazy you know but yeah it's not you making bread you know your family gets special bread every morning we get just regular regular dumb bread I do love that the southern, the southern just fried basic garbage angle. You know what I mean? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:52 Yeah, we're not really, we're not, we're not even thinking about, we're not even thinking about whether it's healthy or not. We really don't even care if it's even that good. We're just going. We, I mean, biscuits and gravy's was big here. I love biscuits and gravy. Yeah. But, I mean, I don't, my mom, I, you know, it's not like she.
Starting point is 00:24:11 always made she never made it uh you've had a had a friend problem don't you yeah yeah i love ice cream i had some last night uh yeah i was doing pretty good i kind of got back off i've actually lost weight during this uh covid and uh somebody i don't drink anymore and then they oh really yeah so that's it's enormous it's been uh i mean a year and a half maybe or something like that oh wow nothing nothing So that's just gigantic. Like, that's a, like, some, I think people don't realize when they think, I don't know how to lose weight. You're like, not drinking is enormous.
Starting point is 00:24:49 Like, even if you're eating bad, when you're not drinking, it's just, it's just a big deal. I know, I know. But whenever I've, whenever I've, like, dialed it in and, like, looked at like, oh, this is how you eat healthy or this is intermittent fasting or this is whatever. and I would always just discount the drinking part. I'm like, well, that's not part of it. That doesn't count. Yeah, that doesn't count. And then you don't drink for one week and your body like squeezes out like a sponge.
Starting point is 00:25:21 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I was carrying a lot of extra water with me. Yeah. It's, uh, this has been the toughest not to drink is during this, you know. I, I, you know, I, you know, I always think like I don't want to ever not drink again. I would love to, like, I'd love to be. done with or you know see it's semi-retire with comedy and then then just go and like you just go drink I like to golf so like you go you just go drink on the golf course or drink you know yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:25:51 but yeah like that that's been a gigantic help but ice cream has been a big problem right did ice cream when when drinking took off did ice cream show up in a bigger way it shows up in an enormous way then because then you're trying to like, you know, especially like on the, when I was on the road, you're like after shows, you want like dessert. You know, you want something. Yeah. And so you're not drinking. So you need, so you end up doing candy, ice cream.
Starting point is 00:26:22 Yeah, you need a treat. You need a treat. Ice cream would be my thing. And then, but then when I got back here and got home, we, you know, we get Sonic blast, which are unbelievable. If you ever had on those, it's like a McFlurry. I haven't had that. is that like a blizzard?
Starting point is 00:26:38 Yeah, it's like a blizzard is the greatest, but there's not, I don't know if it's duping right here. Blizzard is the all-time best, but it's just like a blizzard, yes. Got it. What do you crunch up in it? M&Ms.
Starting point is 00:26:50 Ooh, nice. So it's, I mean, it's, that's all-time, that's like my all-time favorite thing. I can eat one every night. It's the best thing ever. I mean, I love it, dude.
Starting point is 00:27:05 I love, yeah, I love every second of it. Do you do it? Do you do it? You go to the drive-thru? Well, Sonic, yeah. You go through. Have you ever been to Sonic?
Starting point is 00:27:15 Oh, Sonic is at the drive-thru, right? Yeah, yeah. And they, so you just go and order it. And like, we had, my daughter's birthday was yesterday. So, well, so we would get her one and, like, she loves them, too. Like, obviously. I love that, I love that move, by the way. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:32 I watch my wife do that, too. My wife was addicted to ice cream. has been since we were dating and we have children and she gives them her addiction so that from the rest of their lives she uses them as the reason to go get more ice cream yeah yeah well the kids want it yeah it's like your daughter's she just has to go to sonic today I figured it was you know she did good today she made her she made her bad once like you know like just something stupid you're like so and I walk in with just, I mean, this big of a thing.
Starting point is 00:28:07 And I'm like, I don't, it's just what I get there. You get extra M&Ms or just straight? Just I go, no, I don't, I don't. I alter so much other stuff that if I don't have to alter something, I love it. What do you mean? Like, I don't like onions. So, I mean, you know, everything's like no onions or scalyons. Like, scallions, like, scowions make me furious.
Starting point is 00:28:33 Like, because they, people sprinkle them, you know, restaurants, they just sprinkle them on it. And they don't, on top. And it's like, it's not a big deal. Like, it's like, you know, like, oh, whatever. Like, I'm just doing Scalions. You know, like, it's decoration. No one really ever cares.
Starting point is 00:28:49 And I don't, I care. Scalions were banned in America for like a couple years. Yeah, it was like, it was like five years ago, something like that. Because, you know, it's like one of those, like, they get something happens to them where they're growing them. and so they don't let them in the country. And, but it was like, there's truly the greatest ordering of food of my life. I love, like, I just, to anywhere I go, I don't have to, I'm not always like, is there, do you sprinkle scalyons on it?
Starting point is 00:29:21 Like, I just knew that scalyons were not allowed in America. And I mean, dude, I was living it up. I mean, I was like, let's go out to eat every night. This is the greatest thing ever. And then I remember when they first came back and I was. like, what's that? And I was like, scallions can come back. I'm like looking it up like, I was furious.
Starting point is 00:29:41 And now they're back. And people put them on everything. The travel ban was over. The travel ban was over. But man, it was the run of that for two years was amazing. I loved it. You're right. They don't even, they don't even treat it like it's an ingredient in the dish.
Starting point is 00:29:59 No, they go, well, you don't taste. They're like, everywhere is like your mom that's like, you can't even taste it. Like, you know, and it's like, it's what a restaurant tell you. You're like, well, I taste it. So I would like not onions on it, please. A little Nate just staring at it. Just look, yeah, like, oh, and they mix. I mean, they will, I mean, sometimes they get it in where they're, it's like,
Starting point is 00:30:21 it's almost like gum stuck in your hair. You're not getting them out. Like, if you, if you don't want them, they're, I mean, the guy like, the chef, like, puts it on and then just like mixes it all up. Yeah. And then almost like here, he heard you say, can I have no scallions? And he goes, oh, do you want a better? I'll make sure you taste these scullions. That's so funny.
Starting point is 00:30:46 Yeah, there's. And so when you go, when you go to get your, your Sonic, what do you call it? What is it? Sonic Eminem, Sonic, Eminem blast. I don't call it that. Sonic calls it that. I just made up a name for it. Like, this is a company name, Tom.
Starting point is 00:31:03 No, I know. I just didn't know what it was. So I love that it's not only that it's delicious and there's M&Ms in it in ice cream, but that you don't have to tell them no scalyons. It's a scalyam. I love, I feel so good when I don't have to like adjust an order. Right. Like I just love, like I'm always jealous of the people that just are like, oh, I'll take, yeah, whatever. Like they don't even, they're not even looking what's in it, what's not. And I'll do it if I'm like, eating like if you go to like a meeting dinner or something and you're trying not to be a nightmare like you know somewhere that you're and i'll you know i'll try to like gauge to be like all right what is i'll even look maybe sometimes i'll look i'll look before you know you get there at the menu just to be like what can i wear i'll ask my wife my wife will look for me to be like what can i order that i'm not going to be like hey can i have you know i don't want but i mean like you know because it's not like health reasons. No, it's just I don't like it.
Starting point is 00:32:09 You're just annoying. You're just annoying, yeah. It's not like you can be like, I'm allergic to blah, blah, blah, whatever. It's like, I'm on this. I'm taking this, you know, it's just straight up like, I don't want onions. I don't like onions. Oh, all right. Jesus.
Starting point is 00:32:25 I live with that. That's what my wife is that. Very particular. A lot of, a lot of prerequisites. a lot of, you know, is there anything in this? Is there, especially they're vegetarians. My whole family's vegetarians. So it's just, I order.
Starting point is 00:32:42 I just go burger. Done. Medium. Done. And I just sit back. And then I watch the play. Yeah. With my daughters and my wife all going into, okay, but does it have and do you, is it
Starting point is 00:32:58 possible to. And then he's got to go ask and then again come back. he's like I don't well if they can ask a question that they're like the guy's like I've never even heard that so like if he that's the like if he can't be like no obviously he doesn't have this because LA's got as a place where all they do is ask. Oh it's built on that. It's built. Yeah, it's built.
Starting point is 00:33:21 Yeah. That's what every restaurant's like please. We would love to talk to you about where our cheese got flown in from. And so if you can ask a question. with the guys like you know what that's the first one i've heard like i feel like that's an accomplishment yeah in l. he's like ooh never ring my bell yeah yeah we got a new question over here she wants to know the calorie intake of lettuce like you know it's like that's funny i like uh the i i do love like i was i wanted to get more into like knowing why i my buddy is like he's very he worked
Starting point is 00:34:02 in restaurants for 20 years, so he knows a lot about wine. But like the idea of wine, like, and, you know, where they make it and like, the, like, regions is crazy. Like, that stuff is different. And yeah. I mean, wine is a thing that I was always jealous of like someone, the people that, like, loved wine so much. And then they know it.
Starting point is 00:34:21 And then they can say, how this is this. And they don't feel like they're booze bags. You know what I mean? Like they, they like, they do it as like, you know, for the actual taste of it. And, you know, probably have a good time. Still getting hammered. Still get just, I mean, smashed. Yeah, wine is sneaky.
Starting point is 00:34:41 You're like, oh, this is so good and this is so elegant. And tell me the story about that. That's great. And then you get up to go get some more chips. You're like, whoof, the world is speaking. Yeah, you get it right when you go, well, the problem with the world today, you give some nice big speech and then trip over an Ottoman as you go get. because you're like college drunk and you're like oh god
Starting point is 00:35:05 it's so funny we did uh there's a place it's i did a show there it's a very nice place for blackberry farm and uh it's in right outside like knoxville just east of nashville and it's it yeah yeah it's a very it's a super super like rich expensive like uh it's just an unbelievable and i did a show there. So like that's what we got to go. And they, but they have a one of the biggest wine, uh, sellers in the Western hemisphere. Whoa. And, uh, it's all you go down there, walk around. It's unreal, dude. And I was like, she, the guy was showing us a bottle once. And I go
Starting point is 00:35:50 to pull one of the bottles out. And then I mean, just five bottles fall in the ground. And I mean, he was like slow motion just watching like, deed, deed. And we're in like, you know, it looks like a bomb seller like you know the ground is hard and you just and like none of them are breaking and you're like please no i mean it's it's maybe five or six one one broke then one of them finally just was like shh and just shattered and i mean this is like a this is like an ultra five star you know where you're yeah sitting there and i'm just like doing a show that i'm like getting like you know you're the clown i'm the clown that goes walk around and you're just like you know you know then they have bottles that are, you know, probably $20,000.
Starting point is 00:36:33 Like I said, like, it's some story. And you're just like, please be like the one that I can buy at Walmart for like, you know, like just don't have this bottle be some real deal. Some screaming eagle $1,000. Yeah, yeah. That's so. You're like, we had put our house up for sale. Like, uh, just, I mean, when you're in that setting, it's so new.
Starting point is 00:36:59 It's so, it's so. it's so pristine. Like any little thing is, like, even asking a dumb question is a huge humiliation. Like, it's like you're trying to just act like you've been there before. You're just trying to like, so like the idea of bottle after bottle just falling and you, it's like Charlie Chaplin's been led into the wine cellar. Everybody's just watching it. I know, it's funny.
Starting point is 00:37:26 They always like, yes, they say stuff. they say like where the wine was made like the town you're like oh France you're like that's California you're like I'm like that off like I don't even know where they're like oh my and they're like that's right outside orange county you're like oh okay I oh I've been there no that's the grape that's the name of the grape that's the name oh is it okay well it sounds like a place that I'm yeah I was it because it's for my wife's families from there. But yeah. Yeah. Wine is yeah. Yeah. I really feel like you just got to kind of dial into a couple places. And if you've been there, it's even better. But like, I'm just going to
Starting point is 00:38:12 deal with this city and this region and that region. And that's it. And I'm just going to keep drinking everything that they make. And then eventually I'll get a handle on it and be able to get through a conversation. Will you go? Like, but I mean, would you want to go to that region though like and then i i i would like i you know i've been to like napa and i've seen like some of those vineyards and and that was cool but i've been reading stuff about this stuff in um bandol which is like the southern part of france and my friend you know chris the lily who was uh yeah the host of oh yes yeah when we did that show together and um i have it He's a crazy wine.
Starting point is 00:38:58 Right there is my prairie home companion. Oh, nice. Yeah, look at that. Yeah, very cool. So Chris is really crazy into Barolo's, which is in this Italian region, and the Nebiolo. And so when you start reading about it,
Starting point is 00:39:15 you start to look like, oh, man, there's like you read about the town and the people and the thing, and it's like, ooh, I would like to go visit there. And of course, no. we're not allowed to leave the country. So I'm going to have to put it off for a while. Yeah. But yeah, I think because I think that kind of makes it real.
Starting point is 00:39:32 It's not just like, you're like, oh, I remember that guy in that cellar, you know, who had that stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think that would be like if we did like a trip like in Italy like that. Yeah. I definitely, you know, it's like if you could drink for, you know, if you drink for that reason to be like,
Starting point is 00:39:55 you're going out you have a nice glass of wine like you're not you know right you're almost just trying not to wake up and fill it the next day right especially you get in your I mean I'm 41 so you're once you get your 40s you're like I just want to you start wanting to protect the next day exactly yeah I know I yeah I yeah a hundred percent and how old's your daughter eight eight yeah she's ready to go that's a lot of Oh, let me do. They had, uh, they had, uh, last night. So she's, they spent the night in my mom's house. Uh, because my mom, it was her golden birthday being July 8th and she's turning eight. So, uh, they, my mom, like, took them was like, you can go, we're taking by whatever you want, you know, whatever. Yeah. And then they spend the night with her niece, uh, with her cousin, their house. But like, they called this. So last night they were FaceTime and showing us what they bought. And they, but they had this year, they went and got them Sonic. Because she, she was. And she, they went and got them Sonic. Because she. love Sonic, you know. I was here.
Starting point is 00:40:57 How that happened. I know. I don't know where she got the taste for it. It's so weird. Yeah. They, it was like they were drunk. Like, it was like talking, it was like talking to drunk, you know, they're just in the back of my parents' car, just like laughing.
Starting point is 00:41:14 They're not making sense. They're, you know, just rambling, grabbing the phone. Let me talk. And, like, and he truly was like, you're just like talking to two drunk people. Where are you? What are you doing? Like laughing, yeah. And it's just so funny to be, it's just two kids that are like, you know, it's nine, they're delirious.
Starting point is 00:41:35 They've had probably way too much sugar. Nothing they've eaten was substantial that day. That's so great. Yeah. I love those moments. Yeah. And then like 20 minutes later, they're just crying, holding their shoes. Oh, yeah, bawling.
Starting point is 00:41:49 And you got to lay. Where's my car? Yeah. I lost my phone. Why do you hate me? No, but protecting the morning is a huge thing. I remember my cousin who's a little older. He's about 10 years older than I am.
Starting point is 00:42:12 And he started telling me, when I was like coming into 40, he was telling me this like this life hack that he had. Like he really discovered something. something that if you, the reason you drink at five o'clock in the afternoon and he would have like tequila and hem it with his buddies and at five o'clock they would do is because you're sober before you go to bed and then your next morning is protected like you're saying. Yeah. Yeah. And he was like, dude, just start drinking at five. And then you're sober by the time you're going to bed and you're not hung over in the morning. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:42:49 this guy's nuts. And now that's all I do. Yeah. Five. And it works. Oh, it totally works. Yeah, a couple drinks. Did you ever get a couple drinks? So you're not getting like just a nice little tiny buzz and like a gentleman. Like a gentleman. Like you can still pick your kids up from school. It's not weird.
Starting point is 00:43:08 You're, you're in the line. Everybody in that line probably has got at least that kind of buzz on where they're just like. Right. If they went through and asked all the parents picking their kids up, have you been drinking? They're like, not a lot. I had a couple drinks. A friend of mine came over, wasn't expecting it, so we started drinking. Totally aware I was going to have to come pick her up.
Starting point is 00:43:34 I knew I was going to have to pick my kids up. We don't live too far from here. I'm like, well, sir, you're facing backwards, just so you know. And you're like, okay, well, honest mistake. Yeah, no, yeah, the whole thing once they start like moving around, and especially when they get a little older and they stay out late, like, you know, before they drive. And they're, you've got to pick them up at 11 o'clock at night sometimes. It's like, yeah, that's going to change your whole strategy.
Starting point is 00:44:06 You can't be getting hammered and be like, I got to go. I got, you're not going to go to the party as the drunk guy picking up people to get them home safely. Yeah. Well, did it help? Because you're, how old are your, your oldest kids? 18. 18. So is it tough for them you being a comedian where you're like, we don't go to bed like normal parents.
Starting point is 00:44:29 Or I don't like I can stay up. I stay up every night. So it's like I can stay up later than teenagers can stay up. You know, because we, we, I mean, you know, our whole life is doing. I've been on stage at two in the morning. So I know. I know. But I started, once the kids showed up actually and they would pop up at 7 o'clock, I started doing it.
Starting point is 00:44:49 So that curb my late night. lifestyle unless I was on the road. But when I was home, I would just, I would crash. I never understood like when comics or musicians would say like, well, you know, but when the show's over, you know, it takes a couple hours to come down off of that high. I was like, dude, if there was a mattress next to the stage, I could say good night and fall asleep. You know, you're like you and Dan Soder.
Starting point is 00:45:18 Dan Soder is the same way. I need like hours, dude. I have a real hard time going to sleep. And I have a hard time going to sleep even here. I am noticing a little bit. And I mean, it's happening now. Like within, I'd say the past two weeks, I've been like, you know what?
Starting point is 00:45:34 I feel tired. And I feel at like, and it'll usually be about midnight. And I'm like, all right. Like, I'm used to like, you know, I mean, I would, I can stay up to two, three easily. And then when I was on the road so much, you're, you know, I always looked at like, we have to be the most on at 9 p.m. They used to always say like NBA athletes would take naps because they got to be athletically playing a game at 10 p.m. I mean, like the biggest shot of their athletic career could be 10.30 p.m., which is crazy. Yeah, it's insane.
Starting point is 00:46:14 Yeah. So they have to be up and ready like for at that time where we. We need to be firing on all cylinders at this lady's later hours. Yeah. And it's hard to me to switch back and forth. But when your kids get up, when they're getting up early. I have one kid. Right, but when she gets up and don't you feel like you've got to get up and go walk into the kitchen?
Starting point is 00:46:40 Or would your wife let you sleep? No, I mean, yeah. I thought, why do you have wives? I don't know what the point of wife. Like, I mean, they, no, my, my wife lets me sleep. I mean, she gets up and then she goes and does it. Like, they, you know, my wife wakes up. My wife can fall asleep easy.
Starting point is 00:47:03 Yeah. Once I would hear them banging around, I would, I wanted to go see what was happening. So that started making me slowly turn into this morning person. So like when I had to be up by and top form at nine o'clock, I was crawling across that finish line. I was doing everything I could to get across that. Yeah. That late. Say my, our daughter, she's starting to wake up a little bit more.
Starting point is 00:47:30 She, we, we had it. Now we have one kid, which is enormous. Yes. That's a, that's a huge, huge difference. And now that she is age, she can get up and she go gets like, you know, a little breakfast muffins or something. and can do her stuff around. My wife wakes up. My wife can fall asleep at the drop of that too.
Starting point is 00:47:49 Like, uh, so she's a good sleeper and she goes to bed and she'd go to bed like 11 midnight and then, but she gets up at eight or whenever, you know, and, and, and she's always been good as she's let me sleep in.
Starting point is 00:48:03 Like I've, you know, and I stay up later. And I mean, I feel like we've got a good, like, you know, when our daughter was little,
Starting point is 00:48:08 we had a good balance to be like, my wife goes to sleep early, but if she, if she, if she cried. or woke up at like two in the morning. I'm up. So it was like you're a you know you're like you're like, you're never like messing anything up right. And what we're talking about like kids coming home late. If you're up like if you're 18, you know, it's like I feel like for comics they can be less likely
Starting point is 00:48:31 they can't sneak in it like more than more you know you're like it's true. You're like it's a breeze for me to stay up to one in the morning. That's I don't even try like. Yeah, you can try and come home drunk, but I'm going to be standing in the door. Right away. Yeah. You know, I'll easily stay, you know, and watch and make sure where you're out. It's so funny. I literally, when I started doing the serious XM show when we were doing, we were doing early mornings.
Starting point is 00:49:02 Yeah. That really changed. I was literally, you would have been horrified. I was at like 10 o'clock telling my family, all right, I'll see you. I'm going to bed now and like going down there in my little sweater to go to sleep like a grandpa. What time you got to get up for that? When we were doing that, I was like 5.30. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:27 You would have been asleep for two hours. Oh, our neighbors, like, get up at like 5.30. I mean, I don't know if I'm to my deepest sleep at 5.30. Like, it's like 7 a.m. is like my, like, you know, like 6.8. am like that's when it's like the the dreams i mean you're the first person i've talked to this morning was you i woke up to talk to you like uh it's not you know yeah i mean i'm usually like a nine now i'm about a 9 30 that's good like civilized that's really civilized that's a solid like i'm not scared to tell someone that i'm like i could have a 930 not a big deal like we always be defensive
Starting point is 00:50:09 and everybody's like oh okay okay i mean These people that work like regular jobs, like they have, if you ask them when they sleep in, you know, I'm like, what do you do like Saturday? Kids are gone. You could sleep in. They're like, I mean, 845, 8.30. And I'm like, what? Like that's, that's the end is like if I wake up at noon. That's right.
Starting point is 00:50:34 I'm telling you it's so sad, but I've, I've slowly become that. I've become, I've become that. Like, I actually think to myself, and as a comedian, you know how bizarre this is, that I actually found myself saying to myself, I really like my mornings. Yeah. I like to be up before everybody else and just, that time's like for me. Like, like, we're talking like 7.30 coffee quiet time. I'm like, what? Am I fishing?
Starting point is 00:51:06 Am I doing the crossword puzzle? What's happening to me? they uh that's my buddy here he gets up at 530 and he loves it he gets it loves it loves it because he's like it's they love being up even sometimes before the sun comes up and then it's there like it's so quiet no one's awake and it's like i just kind of do nothing and how many kids does he have he has i think three kids and then their oldest might be like 15 or something like that yeah it's his only time to be a person by himself is to get up in the dark.
Starting point is 00:51:44 Yeah. That's really what it comes down to. Yeah. Yeah, I would, I would love to get up early. Like, you know, being a golfer, and I like to golf, I would love to be,
Starting point is 00:51:56 I know the guy that owns Zaney's Brian Dorfin. He's the first tea time at his course every morning, every morning during the week. So he's off at like 7 a.m. plays 18 old by himself. Wow. You know, it takes like two and a half hours.
Starting point is 00:52:12 And like that would be awesome to me. He's done at 9 a.m. Wow. Like 9 a.m. He's golfed 18 holes by himself. He gets to be by himself out there. You're outside. Perfect.
Starting point is 00:52:23 He plays music. He is, you know, and like golf by yourself is very nice. Moves along. No one's in front of them. Just kind of boom. And, you know, you could show up at home at 9.30 and you've already had a full morning. I would love that. That's great.
Starting point is 00:52:38 Like, but that would be. I'd have to get, I'd have to train my body to. Yeah, you'd have to change your entire life. They'd change everything. But I would love to be just that first tea time, whip around. I know. And then be home at 930, then you'll be like, oh yeah, I'm ready to go. Yeah, because when you go in the middle of the day, that's easily, you could double the amount of time you're golfing.
Starting point is 00:52:58 That could be a four hour. I mean, I'm playing today at two and I'll be, it'll be four. And then so, but it's always four. And then if you go, the other way is to go in the, like if I go, if you go at like 6 p.m. And it doesn't get dark to really eight. And then that, the weather feels great. There's not much, it's not better. But then, you know, then of course you miss putting your kid to bed or something.
Starting point is 00:53:25 The whole day. Yeah, exactly. Besides that, besides the snuggling your little girl. I haven't golfed in a while. And I was literally thinking the other day, the more than even the golf, more than like trying to get better and and all that it was just having having having the break at the turn and having like a hot dog and then at the end that drink with your buddies at the end watching everybody else come in oh that is such a sweet moment it's special it's
Starting point is 00:53:58 it's golfs uh you know uh you know for especially for uh girls it's the most under underused scholarship in all of colleges is women golf. They, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, if you could have your kid. If you have your daughter just, I mean, doesn't even have to be that good just can get around and play. Could break a hundred. If she could break a hundred. Yeah. She could get a full ride to a lot of college. She's, they, they, it's an extremely underused, uh, uh, scholarship there's not enough girls that are doing it have you bought her clubs yet i have and then uh i've tried to get i'm not i wanted to do it just with me i'm really into it like yeah and i love it
Starting point is 00:54:51 and uh i think golf is a perfect uh you know it's and you can do it i mean golf you can go golf for ten dollars somewhere like it's you know it's sometimes it's looked as this like country club rich, yeah, and it's not. And it's a sport that you've played your whole life. Yeah. It's something you learn. You learn a lot by your, so you're playing by yourself. You're playing by yourself. You've got to overcome a lot of things. You got to be creative out there. You get your, you put yourself in bad situations. You got to get yourself out. Sometimes you got to just take the long way out and just accept that you put yourself over there. It's a lot of things, I think, that are very good and all and, you know, and then as, yeah, and even as a scar.
Starting point is 00:55:32 And I would even, I bet like most even guys, you know, boys scholarships to colleges, you could probably go somewhere, you know, if you were even got kind of good. So it's a very good sport to, I think being. Yeah. Oh, just that. Oh, but you, right, you're not drinking. But that sitting, you could still sit and eat something and have a nice Coke. I can, yo, have a nice diet Coke.
Starting point is 00:55:56 I love a nice diet Coke. Nice diet Coke. I love sitting. I love sitting and eating like, you know, it's the, you know, you. Yeah, right. When you get done, you go sit and relax. It's the best. It's fun. You get to go out there, your buddies and, you know, it's a good time. You say, I love to see me. These old men. I'll go off every day. Every day? Probably every day. I'll go. I mean, lucky my wife has been very cool. Like, because I, you know, with this quarantine, like, you know, worry. I'm busy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:29 You know, so. Yeah. Usually a very busy person. I like to be busy. I like to do a lot of things. And so when this happened, I mean, honestly, golf probably saved me. Like, it's like I would have just been sitting at home and going crazy. Going crazy. And it is so like I put all that focus into golf.
Starting point is 00:56:51 Right. Like, well, I'm going to try to get better. That's good. Yeah. How much better have you gotten during? I've gotten a lot better. I mean, I was probably a six handicapped starting, and I got down to three. Whoa.
Starting point is 00:57:05 That's really good. Yeah. So it's gotten a lot better. I'm still trying to figure it out, you know. Yeah, that's really good. I love the idea that, I love the idea of your daughter just becoming a teenager, having giant sonics and cruising around the golf course. Like she's totally transformed into into your habits.
Starting point is 00:57:28 Oh, she's about the size of John Daly Because I'll just pet her Because I'm just fed her Sonic blast We're both just too She's hitting 300 yards 300 yards Just whoosh
Starting point is 00:57:42 She gets her big Yetty With the handle on it Like you know It's got Diet Coke in it We're both just We got her own carts It's so great Hey
Starting point is 00:57:56 Tell the people about your new podcast I didn't even realize you had a new one coming out. This is very excited. Yeah, I'm excited. Yeah, I mean, I was drove into doing it because of this COVID. But it's fun. I think it's good to do them. It's called Nate Land podcast, and we do it at my house with my buddy Brian Bates,
Starting point is 00:58:17 who opens for me a lot on the road in another local comic Nashville, Aaron Weber, super funny guy, still figuring it all out, whether we're going to have, ever have guest on or no guest, or I don't know. It's like I'm very open to just seeing how it goes. But just trying to be, you know, just trying to be funny. I do think the thing that I was always jealous of. I think podcasts are very good for comedians to be funny. And like, you know, being funny is definitely a muscle you got to work.
Starting point is 00:58:43 If you don't, if you're not funny in talking to other comics, you can lose like some steps where you're just not as sharp as you were. So I think it's a big deal for us to do that and practice it. That's cool. That'll be great. Yeah, hopefully it'll be fun. Nate Land. And when are you going to go back on the road? Are you thinking about going out?
Starting point is 00:59:04 Do you have any dance? I have one in Huntsville. Huntsville's Comedy Club at the end of July. And then October is when the thing. But I mean, I don't know, man. I get worried that we're not going to go back. Like, you might be to go to some clubs, but I could see theaters like, you're not going to theaters this year.
Starting point is 00:59:23 No, I think you're right. I think mentally that's where. I've allowed myself to live in that reality that way. Yeah. If anything comes through, it's kind of a bonus. But yeah. Yeah, I feel like just got to be in the mindset of, no, it's probably not going to happen. It's not going to happen.
Starting point is 00:59:42 Yeah. But to go to clubs is, you know, I'm going to go to Portland to helium, you know, right with that club. Yeah, yeah. And I'm going to go do that one. But it's also, you know, you have it on the books and you're like, are they still doing it? All right. And then you check the numbers. Are they going up?
Starting point is 00:59:59 They're going down. They're okay. You know, you got to kind of like suss it out. I had one in Arizona that I canceled after Salt Lake City. I was like, oh, this is so great. It feels good. I can't. Just being on stage was such a great thing.
Starting point is 01:00:13 And then I had Arizona next. I was like, I can't do it. This one's going to be weird. Well, they, yeah, they had their, you know, the clubs are doing it in a good way. Like Salt Lake City, I think does it a very good way. Zanis was doing it a good way. look, Zanis had deal. Healy got on stage and had it.
Starting point is 01:00:29 I know. And none of the staff, no one got it. Oh, great. So that's a good sign to be like the performer had it and no one else got it. Yeah. As far as that's what I've heard now. Who knows? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:41 But it doesn't seem like anybody from the audience got it. No staff got it. People that were even back there didn't get. So it's a good sign that you're like, all right, well, maybe you can do these shows where they're, you know, yeah, they're half full. Yeah, do it the right way. Or third. Yeah. third full yeah our nice third you know we did just a couple people we felt uh that's all we needed
Starting point is 01:01:04 that's all we needed so uh yeah i think you you can hopefully that way can happen and yeah yeah we can get back so i hope so i hope so yeah do these to some clubs i would almost be like look these clubs are happening and then it's like you just go do that the rest of the year and just yeah that would be fun do it do it a little bit well hopefully Hopefully, maybe I'll come through Nashville. I'd love to go out. If we do play together, I'll pick my ball up and keep moving. You know how to do, I mean, you know, I'll let you, you know, I'm not crazy.
Starting point is 01:01:39 The fact that you even know to say that shows me that you know what you're doing. Right. I'm not going to be, I won't be annoying. I'll be good company. It's when the, when someone, when, yeah, when they're shooting 120 and you got to watch every 120 of those shots. And we're looking for the ball. Like it's like you're just like, yeah, man, just bring a bunch of, you know, if you don't play. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:03 Go, you should, everybody should go play. Bring a bunch of balls. A bunch of dirty balls. Yeah, that you're going to lose all those balls and grab it and then keep rolling. I got another neighbor that plays me. I mean, he's getting better to you, but he's getting better to you, but he was like would be that way. But he's so great. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:24 That he, yeah, he just, I mean, he grabs his ball. He'll pick it up. And he's like, I'll just drop it up there with you. Like, uh, yeah, that's good. And he just throws it all. Yeah, he does very, he does very good. Some guys get annoyed that you, that you are, that you're not playing dialed in like by the rules and continuing on.
Starting point is 01:02:43 Oh, they get crazy. Yeah, but if you're having a rough day and you want your buddy, your buddy's much better than you, just get the ball. Keep going. If it's in the sand, just pick it up and get out and rake it out. Yeah, my dad, my dad takes out of the sand from here on out. Like, I mean, he doesn't. He's like, no, I'm not doing that again.
Starting point is 01:02:59 Like, it's, you know, and it's like, yeah, it's like, yeah, there's levels. You don't have to play, you know, the rules, strict, strict rules of golf are for, you know, like once you get better, too, you're rarely breaking, you rarely even in a situation where you are going to break the rules. That's right. I love seeing people that will say they don't want to break the rules and then watch them just break the rules the whole time. Like they, like, they're, you know, they're like, no, no. Like, I remember playing with a guy. He hit it out of bounds.
Starting point is 01:03:29 He told me, oh, earlier, I was like, because he was like, okay. He wasn't great. And I'm like, we just pick up wherever. You know, I'm not trying to. I don't really know the guy. So I was like, I'm trying to have to pressure him. He can do whatever he wants. But I was like, I was like, just drop another ball, dude.
Starting point is 01:03:43 You can hit it. Like, you know, people say that a lot. Like, I'll give you a molligan there. And then you can tell him someone's like, oh, perfect. Thanks. And they take it. Because you're like, yeah, we're not in a club championship. Like, right.
Starting point is 01:03:55 And he's like, no, no. played by the rules. So he was like doing all that playing by the rules. So then he'd get this par three and he just yanks one out of bounds immediately. And he's like, no, I'm going to go because you got to drop it where it went in. So he's like, he's got to do that. And then, but he makes us like, wait, he hits like three shots in a row in out of bounds. And so he's like, and we're like, just drop it up here, man. Who cares? He's like, no. And then he gets up to the green. and then he's like, misses the put putt,
Starting point is 01:04:26 he's like, all right, I'll be, I'll probably a double. I'll just put double down. You're like, all right, well,
Starting point is 01:04:31 you made us, if you want to, if you want to not cheat, like, you can't make us watch all these bad shots and say, I'm not a cheater. Right.
Starting point is 01:04:42 Then when you have to write a score down, you're cheating. You're cheating. So like, if you're going to cheat, don't make us watch all that, dude, cheat. Like,
Starting point is 01:04:51 just, like, just cheat at the start. Just cheat at the beginning. dude we were trying to get you don't act like you're above this but you're right like what you said before it's like all the lessons you learn about yourself and you do learn a lot about other people too there is like oh you really you see exactly it's not small either like when you see somebody like really drop a ball and you know they dropped a ball and they and they lied about it that guy's doing
Starting point is 01:05:18 that out in the world oh he's doing that just little things like it's fine it's like it's like white They're like little white lies that get above white lies. Like, you know, they're hurting a little bit. Yeah, he's exactly, they're exactly like that. Like they're, uh, we, I mean, we play with someone yesterday in a, like a match, play this men's league where it's like it's just really a fun league to meet other, like guys. Like, yeah, play and like you're trying to meet other 40-year-old men that played that golf. And, but they, they had a couple of things where the guy, I saw me, one guy who went in the sand and he kind of moved it.
Starting point is 01:05:54 to a flatter spot. And he was a bag on a up against the thing. I mean, I just watched him do it and he hit it. And it was like a look of both of us going, like we're playing a match against each other. Oh, and it was like,
Starting point is 01:06:08 like the mask. Like, what am I going to do? Am I going to argue with this guy? And be like, because the guy gave himself, he had a lie that was a very hard lie. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:18 You know, where it's almost like he moves. He's like, well, that lie was like tough. You're like, yeah, I mean,
Starting point is 01:06:23 that's the whole concept of golf. golf is that that where you hit that was going to be harder than if you hit it somewhere else. Yeah, move it to the better spot. I mean, like, it's like the golf just doesn't work like that. Like, you really. That's kind of, I mean, that was going to be super hard to hit it like that. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:40 I agree. That's the main, that's the whole thing with golf. Yep, that's the game we're playing. What about, you know, but with that moment, you're like, what am I going to do? Like, you know, I know. I know. It's the mass thing. Like, yeah, you're like.
Starting point is 01:06:54 I don't really care. Like, I don't, this isn't, I'm not winning a million dollars. Like, you know, no one's, it's not this thing. You're like, whatever, man. Like, just, you know, I could care. But you know that I know what this happened. Yeah. I mean, it was a, it was a, we looked at each other in the eyes, you know, like, I mean, you know, like a solid.
Starting point is 01:07:17 And then like, you know, then you're just like, okay. And then, you know, where he's like going like, I think he had a moment like, did he see it? Did he not see? Like, you know, he doesn't know. And then he just tries to move on. Yeah, yeah. It says something about COVID and moves on. Oh, these COVID rules, man. Yeah. My uncle just died of COVID. And he hits. And you're like, what's that? Like, he just brings up something crazy. I have COVID. You're like, do you? And then we're we're off the fact that he's cheating. Yeah, hilarious. Well, enjoy your Sonic today. enjoy your round.
Starting point is 01:07:56 Sounds like you're doing well over there. I can't wait to you. You're living your best life. Enjoy you. I'll think about you when I get up tomorrow at 7 o'clock in the morning. I'll think about you just deep in your sleep. Oh, yeah. Please do.
Starting point is 01:08:11 I'll be out. Good talking to you, Nate. Good talking to you, man. Thanks.
