Camp Shane, one of America's longest-running weight loss camps for kids,
promised extraordinary results. But there were some dark truths behind Camp Shane's facade of
happy, transformed children. Nothing about that camp was right. It was really actually
like a horror movie. Enter Camp Shame, an eight-part series examining the rise and fall of Camp Shane and the culture that fueled its decades-long success.
You can listen to all episodes of Camp Shame one week early and totally ad-free on iHeart True Crime Plus.
So don't wait. Head to Apple Podcasts and subscribe today. Have you ever thought about going voiceover?
I'm Hope Woodard, a comedian, creator,
and seeker of male validation.
I'm also the girl behind voiceover,
the movement that exploded in 2024.
You might hear that term and think it's about celibacy,
but to me, voiceover is about understanding yourself
outside of sex and relationships.
It's flexible, it's customizable,
and it's a personal process.
Singleness is not a waiting room.
You are actually at the party right now.
Let me hear it.
Listen to voiceover on the iHeartRadio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
DNA test proves he is not the father. Now I'm taking the inheritance.
Wait a minute, John. Who's not the father?
Well, Sam, luckily it's your not the father week on the OK Storytime podcast,
so we'll find out soon. This author writes,
my father-in-law is trying to steal the family fortune worth millions from my son,
even though it was promised to us. He's trying to give it to his irresponsible son,
but I have DNA proof that could get the money back.
Hold up, they could lose their family and millions of dollars?
Yep.
Find out how it ends by listening to the OK Storytime podcast on the iHeartRadio app,

Hey guys, Ready or Not 2024 is here,
and we here at Breaking Points are already thinking of ways we can up our game for this critical election.
We rely on our premium subs to expand coverage, upgrade the studio, add staff, give you guys the
best independent coverage that is possible. If you like what we're all about, it just means the
absolute world to have your support. But enough with that. Let's get to the show.
Good morning, everybody. Happy Tuesday. We have an amazing show for everybody today. What do we
have, Crystal? Indeed we do. Many things that are happening to update you on.
So a major airstrike by the IDF and massacre in Rafah.
We will take you into what they are saying, what the U.S. is saying, what the international fallout is over that.
Also a shooting incident between the Egyptian soldiers that are right there on the border and the IDF.
One individual on the Egyptian side dead.
A lot of questions about what the hell is, one individual on the Egyptian side dead.
A lot of questions about what the hell is going on there and where that might lead.
We also have yet another update for you on the Great Pier from the Biden administration. Now it is apparently fully sinking into the ocean.
So great work there all the way around.
We have to bring you an insane interview from a Biden defender.
You have to see this thing to believe it.
I've never been more convinced that Biden is way behind in the polls
and would definitely lose if the election was held today.
And we're also very lucky to be joined today by Dave Smith.
He is going to give us an update on the Libertarian Convention.
All kinds of interesting things happened there.
Trump was there.
RFK Jr. was there.
They were booing Trump, but his fans were there.
They picked a nominee.
Interested to hear all of that breakdown. We're also taking a look at South Park's take,
way too accurate take, and look at the American health care system. As usual, South Park tells the real truth about what's happening.
That's right, delivering.
Okay, let's talk about locals and about our premium members. We have several things that
we want to make very, very clear to everybody. As we have made clear, this is only additive
in terms of our switch. Is the YouTube link going away for premium subscribers? No.
Is Spotify going away for premium subscribers? Also no. Unfortunately, Spotify's legal department
has been dragging their feet and honestly making this entire transition a pain in the ass,
even though it doesn't need to be. So we're going to do a workaround. We're going to include a link
in the email for Spotify, where you can still watch the video on Spotify. You get the access to your premium show. We are going above and beyond in order to just make sure that you guys have access to that no matter what. It's a workaround while we get all this stuff handled with Spotify. But don't worry, we will never abandon it and it is coming to you. So check your inbox today. You will have a link that will take you directly there
to the Spotify app and there you will see it.
What else do we have?
You are not losing anything.
That's just the main thing that we want to make sure
that we drive home to all of their people.
Now, in terms of those who have been having issues
with their accounts,
I know there's only a few smattering.
There's some interesting situations
as to why exactly that's all happening.
We won't bore you with the details,
but no breakers will be left behind. No breakers will be left behind.
Griffin is working around the clock on this. If you are having an issue, you need to email
support at locals.com. And at this stage, go ahead and cc breakingpointspremium at gmail.com.
That way we're looped in on that. And if we have any problems
whatsoever, we only have a few. It's very marginal, 1% or 2%. But obviously, we have a lot of people,
so that does add up. Go ahead and send those emails if you're having an issue.
Supportatlocals.com, cc, breakingpointspremium at gmail.com. The emails are in the description
of this video and on Locals and on YouTube, wherever else you're watching the premium show.
So let's get all that clear.
Anything else, admin?
No, I think you nailed it.
Bottom line, if you're having any issues at all,
support at locals.com,
ccbreakingpointspremium at gmail.com.
And with the Spotify thing,
we're confident we're gonna get it worked out.
It's just a matter of time.
So this is a little temporary workaround.
So if you like watching the Spotify premium feed,
make sure to check your email.
There will be a link there. So you will have all of the things that you have always had.
There you go. All right, let's get to the show. We can put this up on the screen. As I mentioned see this area, which was filled with tents of displaced
Palestinian civilians engulfed in flames. We know that at least 45 people have been killed. You see,
I mean, some of the images here are horrific. You here have a man who's holding up the body of a baby without a head.
You have people who are laying on the ground.
Hundreds, in addition to the 45 who were killed, were injured, many of them women and children.
You can see here the sort of smoldering aftermath.
Again, just to reiterate, this is the place that Palestinians were told was, quote unquote, safe.
So there has been massive international condemnation.
You even had a critical look at what happened here from mainstream networks such as CNN.
Let's take a listen to a little bit of what their reporter, Jeremy Diamond, had to say on the scene.
At least 45 people were killed after an Israeli airstrike targeted this
camp for displaced Palestinians in Western Rafah, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
Plastic tarps engulfed in flames, sheet metal walls crushed by the blast,
a block of makeshift shelters flattened in an instant. The Israeli military says the strike killed two senior Hamas militants who commanded Hamas's
West Bank operations, Yassin Rabia and Khaled Najjar.
In a rare move, the Israeli military's top lawyer launching an investigation into the
strike, saying civilian casualties had not been expected. Mohamed Abou Eteoui is one of those civilians,
so badly burned that he cannot even open his eyes.
But there are so many more.
So many children writhing in pain.
And then there are the parents,
desperate to save babies whose cries have been silenced, perhaps forever.
For those who survived, whatever thin sense of safety they still had has now been completely shattered.
We were sitting and suddenly there was a big blast and fire.
People started screaming, Ranin says, describing how they spent the whole night
pulling charred bodies out of the embers.
While hundreds of thousands have fled eastern Rafah
after the military ordered its evacuation,
many others, like this man displaced from central Gaza,
came here to western Rafah, told the area would be safe.
Told the area would be safe. Told the area would be safe. I mean, just honestly, unimaginable what these people are
experiencing. Let's put this up on the screen. This is a news report with some of the details.
This is BBC. Their headline is dozens reported killed an Israeli strike on Rafah. A few quotes
from people who were there. One witness said, we were sitting at the door
of the house safely. Suddenly, we heard the sound of a missile. We ran and found the street covered
in smoke, he said, adding he and others saw a girl and a young man who'd been killed by the blast.
Another said his brother and sister-in-law were killed, leaving their children as orphans. Quote,
the Israeli army is a liar. There is no security in Gaza. There is no security,
not for a child, an elderly man, or a woman. This, of course, comes on the heels of that ICJ
latest injunction. Ryan covered this as breaking news. Over the weekend, they had demanded that
the Israeli defense forces, that they comply with a ceasefire in Rafah. Now the Israelis are claiming, no, no,
they didn't really say ceasefire. The language from that top court of the UN said that, quote,
in conformity with its obligations under the Genocide Convention, Israel must immediately
halt its military offensive and any other action in the Rafah government, which may inflict on the
Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.
We also had a range of shifting explanations for what the hell happened here.
So we can put this up on the screen from the Israelis.
First, you have the IDF bragging about what they had done here.
The original tweet from the IDF, last night, the IAF site carried out an
intelligence-based precise strike that targeted senior Hamas terrorists in Tal As-Sultan. That
is the area that was hit. Contrary to Hamas's lies and misinformation, the strike did not take place
in the Al-Muwasi humanitarian area. Well, no one said it was in Al-Muwasi, but it was in a designated
safe zone. So originally, they're bragging about it it saying, hey, we got the bad guys in a precise strike. Once there was really global
outrage, including some very meek words, I'll show you in a moment, from the U.S. side,
but some stronger condemnation from other countries. Then you have Bibi coming out and
saying the airstrike in Rafah on Sunday was a, quote, tragic mistake,
and adds that it will be investigated. Sagar, I think hardly anyone could imagine that they
really feel this is a, quote, unquote, mistake. When, of course, they've been broadcasting for
months. They're going to assault Rafah. They've massacred already tens of thousands of civilians.
The only reason they're pretending to have any
regret here is because of the strength of the international condemnation. I think the
international condemnation is a big part of it, but I also think that because it didn't even have
an excuse and that all it was extremely well documented in terms of people were told to flee
here, dozens were killed, and then their initial response just so clearly does not comport. It was
very similar to the strike on that refugee camp.
For example, about what you're saying I have here in front of me, Emmanuel Macron, the president of France,
outraged by the Israeli strikes that have killed many displaced persons in Rafah, these operations must stop.
There are no safe areas in Rafah for Palestinian civilians.
I call for full respect of international law and an immediate ceasefire. So for the president of France or the great European nations to be
coming out in this on top of ICJ, on top of ICC, I mean, we're just seeing a constraining of a lot
of the international space that Israel was previously able to move in. You mentioned here
the White House. We can put that up there on the screen. I'm not really sure what else to make of
this, but I'll just read it to everybody. It says, the devastating images following the IDF strike in Rafah last night that killed dozens of Palestinians are heartbreaking.
Israel has a right to go after Hamas.
But as we've been clear, Israel must take every precaution possible to protect civilians.
We're actively engaging IDF and partners on the ground to assess what's happening.
So we're assessing.
We're investigating.
I believe the IDF says that they're investigating as well.
Here is the thing, and this
is why it exposes a lot of what's happening. You told people to move there, and then you said there
are two Hamas terrorists there. It's like, okay, well, in any other military in the world, that
wouldn't even be a question, or at least any advanced military. We're like, that's not going
to happen. Actually, if people are interested, you may not even agree. I encourage people to go and read General McKenzie of CENTCOM just did a massive write up of the kill on Qasem Soleimani.
Now, whether or not you agree with that decision, you should read it to see how the U.S. military operates whenever it wants to kill a high value target.
Again, even if you disagree with the strike, read the great lengths to which that he went to protect himself and surround himself with civilians and the extraordinary lengths that C CENTCOM went to, to make sure that when that strike occurred, that there was
no collateral damage as a result of that. Now, that's why I'm putting that to show you that
even if you have a hawkish view of the world, even if you agree with that strike, compare the way
that the United States military does business compared to where the IDF does business. I was
a Pentagon correspondent in the room during multiple strikes on senior ISIS leaders. There was one particular ISIS leader
who they tracked every day for two years, who would surround himself with children and women
inside of a compound. He was watched by a drone, and the guy knew it. He slipped up one time,
and it was in that one time that he was killed. Now, once again, it was a two-year operation
that the United States military, not necessarily renowned for being, you know, peace lovers or any of that.
Those are the lengths that we went to.
And let me add this.
This was under the Trump administration, under broadened rules of engagement.
This isn't some Obama, Namby Pamby nonsense.
No, Obama was not Namby Pamby.
But I'm saying I'm removing all of the possible objections that we could get to.
That's how America kills terrorists.
There's a different way.
And so even if, you know, you hadn't had all these people there and there were senior to Hamas terrorists and all of that, ask yourself, is there any developed nation in the world that conducts military operations this way?
Especially in the era of precision guided munitions of drone.
They have total air superiority. They munitions, of drone. They have
total air superiority. They have control of the border. They have occupying the force, security
situation. This is not a pure competitive nation. And just say, would any other military in the
world would have pulled that trigger? There's a reason we won't. We don't pull that trigger.
And specifically, put the morals out of it, even in terms of, this is not how you're supposed to
conduct yourself if your goal is to kill and
eradicate a terrorist organization. As evidenced, I keep coming back to this, the political report
where US intelligence that is openly leaking, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is openly
saying this is creating more and more Hamas terrorism. There's every indication in the world
that operations like this, just like the U.S. military mistakes in Iraq and Afghanistan, only incurs that.
And that's why we moved away from it.
Except the Israelis don't have an excuse because they watched us make these mistakes for 20 years.
Yeah.
And that's not to say we were perfect during the war on terror.
Far from it.
But compared to what they're doing here, they make us look like angels.
Yeah, you should read it.
We talked before.
You go read it.
Think about how much risk we took on to take out bin Laden. Bin Laden, the ultimate of the bad guys,
the ultimate of the enemies. And we put our service members at risk to minimize the collateral damage.
And in fact, there was very little, you could say really none, given that it was what, two sons and
one woman. One of the wives. But she had a gun.
So, you know, and look, this is one of those things.
Compare that to here.
They're literally bombing people in tents.
People that they have forced out who probably moved three, four, five times, who were told this was a safe area.
Bombing babies in tents.
I mean, there's just, there's literally no defense for it. And maybe they got the two
Hamas baddies that they're talking about. We don't even have that. We're just taking their
word for that. We don't even know that they did that either. And, you know, of course, this is
months and months and months into this conflict, into this all out assault where we've seen before
the 2000 pound bombs dropped on refugee camps.
We've seen the hospital system. That's the other thing. You've got 45 people dead, hundreds
wounded. You saw in that report, I mean, you really, it's horrifying to watch here. They don't
even have a hospital system that can care for these people. In many instances, they don't have,
we've talked to doctors here, They don't have anesthetic.
These children who were profoundly burned, wrap your head around that.
And it's because of the systematic destruction.
And meanwhile, Sagar, to your point, we know from our own intelligence that Hamas has been able to gain thousands of new recruits over the past several months.
Most predictable thing in the world.
Because imagine your brother, child, sister, mother, et cetera, is murdered. new recruits over the past several months. Most predictable thing in the world, because imagine
your brother, child, sister, mother, et cetera, is murdered. Do you think that's going to warm
your hearts to the Israelis? Of course not. It only strengthens the argument that Hamas makes
in favor of armed resistance. This is not justification, certainly not justification
of killing innocent civilians, whatever side of this conflict you're on.
Camp Shane, one of America's longest-running weight loss camps for kids, promised extraordinary results. Campers who began the summer in heavy bodies were often unrecognizable when they left.
In a society obsessed with being thin, it seemed like a miracle solution. But behind Camp Shane's
facade of happy, transformed children
was a dark underworld of sinister secrets. Kids were being pushed to their physical and emotional
limits as the family that owned Shane turned a blind eye. Nothing about that camp was right.
It was really actually like a horror movie. In this eight-episode series, we're unpacking and
investigating stories of mistreatment
and re-examining the culture of fat phobia that enabled a flawed system to continue for so long.
You can listen to all episodes of Camp Shame one week early and totally ad-free on iHeart
True Crime Plus. So don't wait. Head to Apple Podcasts and subscribe today. to us. Now I find out he's trying to give it to his irresponsible son instead, but I have DNA proof
that could get the money back. Hold up. So what are they going to do to get those millions back?
That's so unfair. Well, the author writes that her husband found out the truth from a DNA test
they were gifted two years ago. Scandalous. But the kids kept their mom's secret that whole time.
Oh my God. And the real kicker, the author wants to reveal this terrible secret,
even if that means destroying her husband's family in the process.
So do they get the millions of dollars back or does she keep the family's terrible secret?
Well, to hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast or wherever you get your podcasts.
Have you ever thought about going voiceover?
I'm Hope Woodard, a comedian, creator, and seeker of male validation.
To most people, I'm the girl behind voiceover, the movement that exploded in 2024. Voiceover
is about understanding yourself outside of sex and relationships. It's more than personal. It's
political, it's societal, and at times, it's far from what I originally intended it to be.
These days, I'm interested in expanding what it means to be voiceover
to make it customizable for anyone who feels the need
to explore their relationship to relationships.
I'm talking to a lot of people who will help us
think about how we love each other.
It's a very, very normal experience to have times where a relationship is prioritizing
other parts of that relationship that aren't being naked together.
How we love our family.
I've spent a lifetime trying to get my mother to love me, but the price is too high.
And how we love ourselves.
Singleness is not a waiting room. You are actually at the party right now.
Let me hear it.
Listen to VoiceOver on the iHeartRadio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
So we know Hamas has been, you know,
the ideology has been strengthened.
We know they have not been able to take out
even half of the original Hamas
fighters, let alone the new recruits. We know prior to actually this assault on these displaced
people in tents that Hamas have been able to fire rockets for the first time in quite a while.
We know from reports on the ground, some of the battalions that had been, you know, sort of come
apart before and
had been assaulted and hurt by the Israelis previously are starting to be able to reform.
It's just, it's complete insanity and horror on absolutely every level. And so you ask yourself,
okay, well, why are they doing it? Well, we know not only for Bibi, but for the entire
war cabinet, a lot of the people who had any sort of power going into October 7th,
you know, they're trying to save their political asses. Bibi has every incentive in the world to
keep this war going, both to try to hold his grip on power, also to keep himself out of prison
because he continues to face corruption charges. But the other thing is, there's a real appetite,
and we can't deny it, within Israeli society that doesn't see any of this as a quote-unquote tragic mistake or
regrettable at all. You had some of the government mouthpieces who are quote-unquote journalists on
Israeli television networks who were celebrating this massacre in the most gruesome terms
imaginable. Put this up on the screen. This is a report from Haaretz. Happy holidays,
right-wing Israeli journalists celebrate Rafah attack, likening it to Lag Bomer bonfire, the central bonfire this year in Rafah.
Israeli journalist Yanan Magal said of an Israeli strike in Rafah in southern Gaza that killed at
least 35. We now know it's 45. Two individuals, you know, who were basically celebrating this,
likening it to celebrations around this Jewish holiday.
Another one retweeted another user's post, which showed that fire, saying,
Happy Holidays. Both have now deleted their tweets, but not before. They were shared widely
across the platform with plenty of users praising the sentiment. Now, that's not to say there isn't
dissent in Israel. There's dissent in Israel. That's not to say that there aren't some real divisions in society, particularly around the hostages.
Not so much in terms of the conduct and brutality of the war.
There have been some very, a few very courageous voices and protesters within Israeli society.
By the way, they get arrested while the people that are the psychos who are blocking aid, they don't get arrested. Let's put that aside for a moment.
But most of the divisions are not about the brutality, not about the loss of civilian life
on the Palestinian side. It's over care and concern for the hostages, legitimate. And the
growing undeniable realization that Bibi's protestations to the contrary, he and his coalition do not give a
fig about the hostages whatsoever. There was a deal on the table. If they wanted the hostages,
they could institute a ceasefire. But Bibi knows that spells the end of his political
lifeline. And so he has no interest in getting those hostages back and is perfectly willing to
use those Israeli citizens as human sacrifices.
The only question remains is whether this will trigger any broader response. It's unclear.
You know, the White House is assessing whether this crosses President Biden's red line. It's like,
you know, at a certain point, just spare us. Spare us your tortured rhetoric in the press
being leaked anonymously. Note that that spokesperson, that White House statement that we read, everybody,
that was to a background official.
Jake Sullivan and the spokespeople
don't even have the guts to put their own name
to that statement.
They haven't said anything yet.
President Biden, you know,
and the statement itself and even the action,
it matters in the context of the broader debate
around the U.S. policy, the withholding of weapons,
and of the relationship of the broader debate around the U.S. policy, the withholding of weapons, and of the relationship of the international community.
That's why we have to spend time here, not to mention the fact that it does presage and demonstrate that even this far into the war, they have not developed any change to their rules of engagement, to their operational professionalism. You would think at this point, the amount of combat that they've all experienced,
that they maybe could have developed
like different standard operating procedures.
There's not a lot of evidence of that,
especially in terms of some of the ground losses
that we've seen, Crystal, the insurgency.
We played some video of that previously in our last show
and some crazy stuff that everybody is watching there.
Israeli kids are getting killed too,
the ones who were served in the military. And your point too about the Israeli society
is important specifically with the hostages. And that's really where Bibi is very vulnerable. I
just saw yesterday, most recent national poll of Israel, over 60% of people think that the prime
objective of Israel's military campaign should be to free the hostages. And it's only that the
secondary campaign should be to kill the terrorists. And that's something which is a little
bit difficult for those of us here in the U.S. to understand where, you know, the Bibi's inaction
on the hostages and the fact that so many were killed now, you know, by the IDF, at least the
only ones that we know about. Others have been, you know, reported to be dead. It's unclear the
circumstances of their death, but the stories are very prominent as well of the hostages who were released saying
that they felt themselves often in danger of the bombing. This stuff resonates deeply inside of
Israel. So it's just, again, it's important to demonstrate a couple of things just in terms of
the Israeli impunity, the way that they have their action. It's important to demonstrate probably the
fecklessness of U.S. policy. And then the smaller and smaller circle that Israel
finds itself in terms of its rights. That's right. I mean, think about what happened just prior to
this assault on displaced Palestinians in tents. You have the ICC ready to issue arrest warrants.
You have the ICJ injunction. You have Biden supposedly drawing a red line,
which obviously turned out to be completely meaningless and doing his little virtue signal,
pretending to pause one weapons shipment. You had three countries just last week, three
European countries come out and officially recognize Palestine as a state. So you have whatever levers of international pressure
there are, have been pulled outside of the US actually doing something and not this,
you know, pretend to have a red line, but then it's not an actual red line, etc.
So, you know, the silence is deafening from the Biden White House at this point. These are the
people who, you know, rushed to put on a statement every time some kid on a college campus
said something that was like a little bit off color.
And now you have 45 Palestinians massacred,
engulfed in flames, hundreds more injured,
and not a word, not a single word.
Astonishing.

Let's turn over to Egypt. This is a very, very troubling situation. And speaking of
international ramifications, this may actually be the most important one. Let's go and put this up
there on the screens. A very sketchy incident that happened between Israel and Egypt.
Now, Egypt said one of its border guards had been killed at the Rafah crossing in Gaza
after reports of an exchange of fire between the two militaries.
Israel confirmed, quote, a shooting incident had taken place on the border on Monday,
saying that it was, quote, under review, and the discussions
are being held with the Egyptians. The Egyptian armed forces say that they are investigating the
incident. An Egyptian official is trying to play down the shooting, saying it was, quote, minor and
of no political significance. But we do have an Egyptian border guard who was killed. Now,
the circumstances of which fire was even exchanged is really unclear right now.
But the reason why this is very important is that we have to separate a couple of things out.
Egypt is a military dictatorship, and the way that their government responds is obviously profoundly important.
But Egypt is also a very proud country with tens of millions of people who live there and who can read the news and who have been increasingly upset about the Israeli action on Gaza. When we combine that with an Egyptian border guard who was killed here in some sort of crossfire incident,
this is the first confirmed death in exchange of fire now for a long time.
Now, let's put this up here on the screen because this is what's very important.
All of this is in the context of the collapse, really, of the 1979 Camp David Treaty
because deploying, quote, more than four infantry battalions or positioning collapse, really, of the 1979 Camp David Treaty, because deploying, quote,
more than four infantry battalions or positioning tanks, artillery, is already a breach of Camp David,
and Israel currently has that entire division that is operating along the Egyptian border.
And as tensions between the two increase, we don't know exactly what prompted the exchange of fire
here, but, you know, we can guess it was probably something, some sort of incident, maybe either trigger happy. Regardless, both sides have not released
any information. And, Crystal, the worrying part of this is that any flare up of kinetic action
between the two, I mean, it's almost difficult to describe like how important this is and why
we focused on it now for several months. All U.S. foreign policy, 1948 to basically 1979, was how do we stop the
Egyptians and the Israelis from fighting each other. That's right. Camp David was one of the
greatest achievements of U.S. foreign policy that had a long-lasting consensus. We had the
peacekeepers in Sinai. We had decades of conflict that was in the region. We almost went to a
full-blown nuclear exchange during the Yom Kippur War, encouraged people to go and to read about
that. This is an area of deep tension. encouraged people to go and to read about that.
This is an area of deep tension.
And the people involved have not forgotten about that.
Now, it's been, you know, basically we've paid them off.
We keep paying $3 billion a year to each try and keep peace. But this conflict has bubbled things up to the surface.
And as we all learned in 2011, things can explode at any time in this area.
And we do not want to see incidents that are like this.
So Camp David basically took Egypt off the table
in terms of being a military defender
and pursuer of the Palestinian cause.
Obviously in the West it wasn't as heralded.
Jimmy Carter won Nobel Peace Prize for those negotiations.
In the Arab world and on the Palestinian side,
viewed very differently because again,
basically put Egypt in the Arab world and on the Palestinian side viewed very differently, because again, basically put Egypt in the U.S. corner. And with the amount of money that we send
them, you know, send in Israel, huge amounts, and Egypt is just down the list from them,
that means that we basically get our way and get what we want with regard to Israel when it comes
to the Egyptians. So there is a huge disconnect between the Egyptian political leadership and these,
you know, rank and file soldiers who were there on the border, probably all of whom are deeply
sympathetic to the Palestinian cause and are now seeing this slaughter that is happening there in
Rafah right on their border. So we don't know exactly what happened here. Both sides of the political
story here in terms of Egyptian leadership and Israeli leadership are downplaying the incident.
They're saying, we'll look into it. This was not a big deal, effectively, is what they're saying.
The reports on the ground are that Palestinian resistance fighters were somehow involved in this
as well. So you're like, okay, well, did the Egyptians come to their defense? What exactly is going on here? There were rumors of a second incident in which
was being reported by Egyptian media sources in which IDF soldiers may have been killed. Those
have not been confirmed, but worth putting out there that there may have been a separate
additional incident, conflict between the Egyptian military and the IDF. So it shows you, you know, something
we've been talking about for a long time, which is the extraordinary tension that is bubbling
right here that could have additional follow-on chaotic fallout here that is very difficult to
predict how this would all go. Yeah, exactly. And, you know, in terms of, again, what we know about all of this, it is all just continues to be sketchy. There was a similar
thing that happened. Let's put this up there, please, because these are some of the details
that we can give you. It says that Israeli soldiers from the 401st Armored Brigade attempted
to cross a site near Rafah, claiming to be, quote, pursuing saboteurs, is some of the detail.
They say that the Egyptian forces that engaged with them,
according to them, they actually killed an Israeli soldier and injured seven others,
three of them critically.
This is based on Egyptian news reports.
Now, the Israelis have not released any killed Israeli soldier or seven who were injured.
Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's not true.
They then say that they retreated behind a barrier and reported their incident
to security commanders in Tel Aviv, who then began communication with Cairo. This just demonstrates that the taking
over of that crossing was already an extraordinary international incident. Egypt actually retaliated
in terms of aid. They also have been bearing a lot of the brunt in terms of funneling of
humanitarian aid. They are a critical part of a lot of these peace negotiations which are happening right now.
Just looked and saw the current parties that is currently happening with regards to that
hostage deal.
Egypt is party to the latest whatever proposal that has been put forward.
So this is Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, just again to underscore how critical the
Egyptians are.
So when we have a dead Egyptian soldier, I just want to say the Egyptian military may not care. They say it's not of political consequence, but the Egyptian
people may certainly care when one of their guys is killed. And it could lead to more pressure
on a lot of these places. That's just, you know, the problem is that we tend to think of these
Gulf dictatorships or these Arab dictatorships as top down. But what we all learned is that
actually the people, you know, in 2011,
they certainly can make their voices heard. And that a lot of these regimes, the way that they
keep their power is by balancing popular opinion. And if the popular opinion starts to really go
against them, you'll see that even though the Saudis, look, the Saudis want to just wash their
hands. They don't care about Palestine. They just want the government, at least. They want to make
a deal with Israel, get all their weapons and move move on. But their people, and this is tens
of millions of people who live in Saudi Arabia, they're not cool with that at all. UAE is very
similar. So a lot of these people have to balance that popular opinion with their policy. And that's
actually what's constraining, again, more and more. It's isolating the United States, let alone
Israel. Yeah. I mean, the Jordanians, even to a greater extent, because again, this is a country that we send a lot of aid to so that they'll do our bidding.
It's also a country with a massive Palestinian refugee population. The queen is Palestinian.
I mean, there's huge Palestinian influence in terms of the population, huge disconnect
between the population and the political leadership. So that's why you see the
political leadership will put out these statements that are very sympathetic to the Palestinian cause,
but they don't actually do anything about it. That's their attempt to try to placate
public sentiment in their countries, because even though, you know, these aren't democracies in any
real sense of the word, they still are subject to those pressures. So here you have an extraordinary
situation where, again, the, you know, Egyptian soldiers who are charged with being there on the
border and who are seeing with their own eyes the horror that's being inflicted on Palestinians,
a group of people with whom they, you know, share deep sympathy, may not share the same political
priorities that the Egyptian leadership does. So this is one to
keep an eye on, one to watch for sure. Yeah, exactly.
Camp Shane, one of America's longest-running weight loss camps for kids, promised extraordinary
results. Campers who began the summer in heavy bodies were often unrecognizable when they left.
In a society obsessed with being thin, it seemed like a miracle solution.
But behind Camp Shane's facade of happy, transformed children was a dark underworld
of sinister secrets. Kids were being pushed to their physical and emotional limits as the family
that owned Shane turned a blind eye. Nothing about that camp was right. It was really actually
like a horror movie. In this eight-episode series,
we're unpacking and investigating
stories of mistreatment
and reexamining the culture of fatphobia
that enabled a flawed system
to continue for so long.

Hold up. So what are they going to do to get those millions back? That's so unfair.
Well, the author writes that her husband found out the truth from a DNA test they were gifted
two years ago. Scandalous. But the kids kept their mom's secret that whole time. Oh my God.
And the real kicker, the author wants to reveal this terrible secret,
even if that means destroying her husband's family in the process.
So do they get the millions of dollars back, or does she keep the family's terrible secret?

Have you ever thought about going voiceover? I'm Hope Woodard,
a comedian, creator, and seeker of male validation. To most people, I'm the girl behind voiceover,
the movement that exploded in 2024. Voiceover is about understanding yourself outside of sex
and relationships. It's more than personal. It's political,
it's societal, and at times it's far from what I originally intended it to be.
These days, I'm interested in expanding what it means to be voiceover, to make it customizable
for anyone who feels the need to explore their relationship to relationships. I'm talking to a lot of people
who will help us think about how we love each other. It's a very, very normal experience to
have times where a relationship is prioritizing other parts of that relationship that aren't
being naked together. How we love our family. I've spent a lifetime trying to get my mother
to love me, but the price is too high. And how we love ourselves.
Singleness is not a waiting room.

Now let's get to the pier, because this is, in terms of collapse of the American empire
and collapse of late-stage republic behavior, well, there's just been a series of very troubling incidents after this Gaza Pier has just turned into a full-fledged disaster.
We have video now of this pier. Parts of the pier actually broke off from the floating pier that was humanitarian, drifted then onto the beach.
You saw clearly there U.S. military personnel with their boots on the ground in Gaza. Then you also
had members of the Israeli defense forces who were there, I guess, securing these forces. You see two
of them drifting there off in the ocean. In terms of what actually
happened, the details of this are just shocking. So according to the Pentagon, two of the pieces
separately floated away. Then one of the boats, the craft that was sent to retrieve this piece
of the floating pier itself got tangled up. We have a picture here. Let's put this video. I mean,
this is shocking. Look at this. So this is another piece, actually, that happened separately of the
floating pier that broke loose and then actually began to sink into the ocean. This was taken from
a higher vantage point from the ocean. So you can see from the beach there, we have three separate
pieces that were all drifting apart. And the Pentagon statement, I mean, just strains credulity.
Let's put this up there. Just shocking, honestly. They say, a small US military vessel
was towing the floating pier back to the port due to poor sea conditions. It got disconnected
and then ran aground. A separate US vessel then went to try and rescue it,
but was also beached after a cable got caught in the propeller.
U.S. is working with Israel to get both vessels back out to sea.
Incredible.
And what I was saying to you, Crystal, before this is,
look, I'm not a nautical guy.
I don't know a lot.
I've watched some episodes of Blowdeck.
What I do know is that even on pleasure yachts in the Mediterranean, making sure that the line
doesn't get caught in the propeller is one of the most basic elements of seamanship. Now,
I am not putting down our great sailors. What I am more saying is that this is an institutional
crisis of competence. And I was explaining this to you yesterday. Our Navy has a severe
readiness problem. One of the pride and joys of the U.S. military, the U.S. Navy specifically,
is fire control. There have been several very troubling incidents from the U.S. Navy
lately, which raise a lot of questions about how they would actually be able to operate
in actual peer-to-peer conflict. We've had multiple horrible incidents. If guys will recall,
not that long ago, there were
multiple crashes that happened where two ships crashed into each other. Sailors were actually
killed, you know, as a result of this. So there is a huge training and institutional problem,
not to mention the fact that this pier is already some $150 million over budget. So this is a nearly
half a billion dollar boondoggle that has happened.
Now we can forgive incompetence, I think, if it is all to achieve, let's say, a noble end.
And it may seem like this is a noble end. But the problem has been that we have basically,
we have taken this humanitarian peer, the US taxpayer is eating the cost of all of this,
including the aid, when it is still at best only able to deliver. taxpayer is eating the cost of all of this, including the aid,
when it is still at best only able to deliver some 10% of the amount of aid that's supposed to go in.
The easiest way to get the aid in is to just let trucks into the Gaza Strip. But so U.S. foreign policy, instead of pressuring a foreign government who we pay billions and billions and billions of
dollars to, to just let that aid in, is instead basically eating the cost over here and putting multiple of
our service members at risk. We already have three people who have been injured as a result of this,
one of whom is in critical condition. And of course, by the way, they are keeping the lid on.
They just say it is a non-combat related injury. So what does that mean? Was it with this? You know,
did somebody fall off? Because, you know, if somebody gets killed out doing something dangerous,
even if it's, you know, trying to drag the peer back or something like that, you're still putting them at risk.
So this is a real highlight of when we put people out there, we put our people forward, there's always something that go wrong.
Murphy's Law, high level of institutional problems, and overall this really exposes a lot of the, you know, the bigger, big picture things with relating to this conflict.
It's just like insanity and incompetence on every level.
It just, I mean, you don't even know what to say about it at this point.
I was recalling with you that when the initial ship set out from, I think it was down in Virginia Beach area from Norfolk,
they had to turn back because there was some problem with the ship. So you have that. Then they get there. People are getting injured. There's bad sea
conditions. Who could foresee that? Things are floating away. The vessel that goes to retrieve
it gets beached on the shore. Like what? What the hell? And then to your point, Sagar, and this is
the most probably significant point. Basically, now we have sort of taken the burden off of Bibi and
said, we'll do it. We'll handle the aid. Don't worry. We got it. Right. If you look, I saw
yesterday a chart. We should have made it for the show, but didn't have time. But a chart of the
amount of aid going into Gaza in the month of May, since the magnificent humanitarian pier was constructed, the amount of aid has
plummeted. Plummeted. It is unreal the minimal amount that is getting into the Gaza Strip when
you already have northern Gaza in famine. All indications from the UN are that famine is spreading. And at the same time, the amount of aid that has actually come in is falling off a cliff.
We know Israel had closed multiple border crossings.
We know this whole time that they have been using every trick in the book that they possibly can to slow the flow of aid. So rather than doing the obvious thing, which is forcing our Israeli
partners to actually get aid and allow aid into the Gaza Strip, instead, we have taken this burden
on in the most insane possible way at great cost, at great risk, and doing it, by the way, incredibly
ineffectively and incompetently. Something that Ken Klippenstein, who's been covering this for a while and who we had on the show last week, mentioned, which is
important to remember as well in terms of the danger to our service members. This pier was
intentionally constructed, to the extent it still exists, was intentionally constructed close to
an IDF military base that has been constructed in Gaza, which is a legitimate military target
for Hamas or any other Palestinian resistance. So this was constructed in a very dangerous area
in terms of our service members, and they're getting washed up on the shore and sitting ducks
here as well. So just total insanity. I saw somebody say the sinking pier video is like the
perfect emblem for Joe Biden's presidency and political campaign. And I think that that is
pretty well said. Yeah. And let's put this up there on the screen, like we said about our own
troops. Three have been hospitalized, non-combat related injuries, one in critical condition at an
Israeli hospital. Unclear what the circumstances are.
It seems like clearly something went wrong because two of the other troops that had a sprained ankle and a minor back injury.
One of the admiral, U.S. Vice Admiral for Central Command, says that two were, quote, very minor routine injuries.
They have now returned to duty.
The other one was injured on ship at sea, medical evacuated to a hospital in Israel.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, just said that they were in critical condition.
So we hope that they are okay.
And we just have less people who are put in harm's way for no discernible purpose.
That's really where it all comes back to.
This is a political stunt.
Troops are now at risk.
Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars have been wasted.
For what?
You know, we can forgive it if it's,
you know, let's say we had a couple boondoggles on D-Day. Okay, we were trying to do something there. Like, that's not what this is. And that's really what I just keep coming back to, the
high level of incompetence, putting our people at risk, not even solving the problem that we have,
probably the perfect emblem for the Joe Biden presidency.
