Starting point is 00:00:34 at 12.42 a.m. on Thursday morning, but it was probably about 11 p.m. on Wednesday night at the end of Game 4 of the 2006 NBA Finals, which will go down in history as one of the greatest games played in the 80-year history of the NBA. One of the greatest games, if not the greatest game played in the 58-year history of this building, Madison Square Garden. And one of the greatest and most shocking of the 441 NBA finals games that have been played up into this moment because we saw the Knicks from 29 points down come back to win over the San Antonio Spurs. Not only that, with a series of plays at the end of the game, each of which could have their own documentary done about them.
Starting point is 00:01:18 That sums it up. Timbontemps, native New Yorker, our resident Texan band McMahon. Howdy, partners. And also we got, oh, we lost jump. Listen, I. We lost jump. I was going to do some. TV after the game. I saw him on Shumpert
Starting point is 00:01:32 on the court in his jersey. I said, Chump. When you say his jersey, I want to be clear. His Nix jersey. It was literally, not like he bought it in some vintage shop. Game worn. It is one of his jerseys that he kept. Correct. So he's wearing his next year's and I said, jump, you better have it tonight for the pod. He goes, bro, I'm heading to 7th Avenue with JR. I'll see you later.
Starting point is 00:01:55 I said, all right, man. Have a good time. He said, I got to be with the people. I got to be with the pen. Let me tell you. There's a I wasn't sure anybody was going to leave the arena. This was a party for about 15, 20 minutes. It took them a half hour to get people to leave. To get people to leave. The players were not on the court, the current players. All the former Knicks were on the court.
Starting point is 00:02:14 Seriously, the only thing missing from the court was the trophy. The celebration on the court, again, I want to be 100% clear, not the Knicks players, not the Nix coaches, but the Nix family, the celebrities and the former players. And all the fans. The whole, I mean, there was not an empty seat in the house. Well, I mean, the fans, of course, but I'm saying the floor filled up. The only thing missing was the stage and the players, of course.
Starting point is 00:02:40 But it was the vibe was like they had just won. I mean, listen, they just witnessed NBA history. This was the biggest playoff comeback in NBA history in terms of a half-time deficit. I mean, forget that. It was just the greatest comeback in NBA history. And one of the greatest choke job. Just because you factor in. everything that's with it.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Yeah. At halftime of this game, the Knicks are down a million. They're trying to beat up Victor Women Yaman the first half, totally out of character for how they normally play. They're totally out of sorts. The Spurs are throwing everything in. You're sitting there at halftime thinking, man, this might be Spurs and Six.
Starting point is 00:03:15 The Knicks look totally discombobulated. Carl Towns out of the game, 65 seconds in with foul trouble. Everything's going wrong. And for that to all turn around. And as you said, we'll get into all the stuff that happen at the end of the game. for not only for this to come back, but for them to come back
Starting point is 00:03:30 and win in the fashion they did with the plays that were made in the final 30 seconds. I mean, the first thing I thought of was game seven in 2016, up to it including the, you know, OG replicating the LeBron block and like the amount of just crazy,
Starting point is 00:03:45 memorable moments from the final couple of minutes of this game, I sat in my seat for 10 minutes afterward. I just watching the crowd just going, I cannot believe what just happened. And I still can't, whatever it is, an hour or 90 minutes later. This is the fifth next comeback in the playoffs of over 20 points in the last two years.
Starting point is 00:04:02 So they've conditioned their crowd to never give up. To hang in with them. You know, you know how I feel. I feel that in the NBA, there's always time, the length of the games, the length of playoff series. You've heard my speech before. This was pushing the bounds. Well, listen, we were together.
Starting point is 00:04:19 It was 20 in the fourth quarter. Well, listen, we were together, Brian and I, midway through the third quarter. and in the bows of the arena and I was watching the game with a couple of the security guards for a minute and they were like, oh man, this is looking great. And the Knicks are down 18.
Starting point is 00:04:35 I was like, guys, listen, just got to get to 15 by the end of the fourth quarter because the Knicks have done this before. At the third quarter. Right, the end of the third quarter. Because you've seen your guys do this before and they're starting to come back. And sure enough, they get to 15 at the end of the third quarter.
Starting point is 00:04:51 They give themselves a chance to get back in the game. And then obviously, I mean, after that, I mean, you texted late in the first quarter on the group text that you could have written a novel about the first quarter of this game. You could have written an entire series of novels about the fourth quarter of this game. There's going to be documentaries made about this game. Well, if they close it out, there sure will be. Sitting in front of cameras, you know, and talking about it with all the other people involved. I was next to our pal Fred Cass and the athletic who's writing a book about this current next team. And I said to him, I said, buddy, I hope for you.
Starting point is 00:05:23 sake that they get one more win because this is going to be a pretty good book with how this is looking right now. He's like McMahon. He's going to have to rewrite the last chapter. At least Fred's still in the process of writing. I tell you what, though, the Knicks, and I mean this as a compliment, they are the ultimate NBA cockroaches. You can't just step on them. You got to squish them and then you got to flush them. Like they do not die. We saw it 22 down against the calves in the fourth, what, eight minutes slept or whatever it was. A little under eight minutes. In that game.
Starting point is 00:05:54 Same building. We sit here. They're 29 down at one point in third quarter, 27 down at the half. It's the biggest half time comeback in NBA playoff history. This is the biggest comeback in finals history. It was still a 20 point game in the fourth quarter, but they completely just shut down the spurs offense that scored 76 points in the first half. Shut it down.
Starting point is 00:06:16 The spurs barely touch paint the entire second half. All right. So let's get into this. Let's get into this. All right. Real quick, cursory in the first half. The Spurs, I think, shot 61% on three-pointers in the first quarter. They had 14 assists before they had a single turn. They at one point, they at one point were 11 for 16.
Starting point is 00:06:37 Okay. This sums up the first half. The Knicks had 15 buckets. The Spurs had 14-3s or a record for a final's half and 14-2s. Right. So 15 total, 14-3s, 14-2s. Do the math. It ain't pretty.
Starting point is 00:06:50 All right. Mike Brown, with all due respect, is all over the place. He played 12 men in the first 14 minutes. Playing Jeremy Sohan, playing Arroyoac Pordy. I mean, could barely play Kat who got, you know, you thought the whole series changed when Kat got that, the review for the. Well, which, by the way, Mitch Johnson with a gutsy review there.
Starting point is 00:07:10 65 seconds in the game. I thought it was an obvious foul on Kat. I had a perfect look at it from the press box. I'm not going to get slowed down here, but it was not an obvious review. I'm just saying he had, he. had his arm like this, they call that all the time. I agree, but I'm talking more about the idea that they would reverse that.
Starting point is 00:07:28 Yeah. I'm not talking about they didn't call it. But on the list of things that went wrong, that was one of the first things that really went wrong for the Knicks. And there was a long list. Carl Town. We talked for the last two days about Carl Towns needing to be aggressive and in the game, right? Immediately he's aggressive.
Starting point is 00:07:41 He's out there scoring right away. But he gets a bad foul, been out of position out of Deer and Fox Drive. And then that happens. And that just set the tone for the rest of the first half. Things were just completely chaotic. Correct. It looked like the Knicks were totally. dead in the water.
Starting point is 00:07:53 All right. Let's go to the second half. All right. So whenever there's a collapse, I don't care if it's a corporation or a regime or some other sort of catastrophe. There's always multiple contributing factors. Well, I think there's always a misfree throw. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:13 Remember what I say. There's always a miss free throw. Or two. Or two. Okay. We'll get to that in a second. I think the spurs pop champagne at halftime. That's the only explanation.
Starting point is 00:08:21 for how poorly they played in that second half. Well, listen, the Spurs got way ahead shooting a ton of threes and making a ton of threes. And I was talking to Tim Legler after the game, our pal and, you know, Alan Hahn from MSG. And who did the Spurs remind me of tonight? The Boston Celtics. And Brian, how many times have we sat here after a game in the playoffs with the Boston Celtics and said something akin to the Celtics were making a ton of threes and hitting all their shots? And they stuck with it too long and started missing all their shots.
Starting point is 00:08:50 I still have a seven foot five center. Well, yes, I know, but still, that's what I'm saying. Yeah. So, okay, so first off, the, obviously the spurs start shooting threes. And they went four of 20 in the third quarter shooting, two of 12 on three. And there were a lot of like one pass threes or no pass threes. Very quick possessions. Bad process threes.
Starting point is 00:09:13 No, forget about any guard going into the paint. And here's the other thing. The only guy who had anything, any sort of juice going at all in the second half, half was Dylan Harper. Yeah. And he vanished into the woodwork. I don't know. I have to go back and watch the game as to exactly what happened.
Starting point is 00:09:30 But he was the guy that, frankly, the youngest guy on the court was the guy who needed the ball. Yeah. And he didn't get the ball. Well, Times was first of had trouble. They've leaned too much on Deeron Fox and away from Dylan Harper. And that, that was to bid him again today. All right.
Starting point is 00:09:43 So here's the other thing. Now, Victor, like, I, he did not have, we always talk about Victor's energy. I know people probably, people are making. fun of me and joking with me about it. I get that fine. Say, have your say, whatever. His energy was okay in this game. And then.
Starting point is 00:10:00 And wained. Well, and again, this, and I've been talking about this for most of the game. Mitch Johnson was inexcusable with his usage of Victor Wembeyanma in this game. And I was saying it in the first quarter. The spurs were on tilt in this game, even though they were winning. And I go back to when Carl Towns checks in the game early in the first quarter, right? he's got to two fouls. Victor comes out. Luke Cornet comes in. He's in for about 30 seconds. They bring Carl Towns in. Nick's like, hey, let's get Carl Towns some minutes. And the Spurs
Starting point is 00:10:28 at Victor Romaniama right off the bench. You know what? They had to play Carl Towns? Because they made it bring Towns back because Mitch Johnson was so tired. Well, Mitch Robinson. Mitchell, yeah. Mitchell, Robinson. Mitch Johnson would be tired tonight. Right. Mitch Robinson was so tired that they had to bring another guy in. Well, they tried to play R-a-40 for a couple minutes, and that didn't work. So then they're going to... Like, literally, they brought in the guy with two fouls to spell the guy, because the guy was sucking wax off the floor, but I'm sorry. No, but the point is that the spurs were up 27 at halftime, right?
Starting point is 00:10:56 They're up 25 for large stretches of the game. It's absolutely inexcusable to play a guy who we constantly are talking about having to manage his minutes and make sure his energy is up. So many minutes when you're up by so many points to the point when he plays 23 minutes in the second half and he was completely on empty the entire fourth quarter. And so he was just oftentimes standing there on the, perimeter, watching straight line drives the rim for layups and kickouts for threes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:11:23 So obviously, first off, focus on the spurs first. The spurs stopped moving the ball from side to side, started one pass possessions. And then Victor, you kind of see Victor's fatigue sometimes when you start seeing him and lose his balance. Yeah. This is what happened when Victor first started playing basketball against big, like, physical guys. He looked like he had slippery shoes on because that's one of the things that's,
Starting point is 00:11:49 struggling. His strength has been to keep his balance because he's so tall. He's losing his balance. He's sort of flopping all over the place out there. I mean, I just think because he's tired. He's tired. And look,
Starting point is 00:12:01 they went too far with the let's beat the crap out of Wemby thing because it did seem like they were more worried about, you know, like way too much. Like UFC style fighting in basketball on the first half, but those blows take a toll. And every time. Alvarado just took his legs out in the first half. He's like,
Starting point is 00:12:18 I don't know what to do here. I was going to jump and take his legs out. Every time he rolls the rim is not just a tag. It is a thud. But that's not why he was tired. He was tired because he played out of factor. I mean, sure. But he should have played 34 minutes in this game.
Starting point is 00:12:34 It's crazy. You can't play him 34 minutes. He can't play him 34 minutes. Again, when you're up by 27 in the first half, you cannot play him 21 minutes in the first half of that game. Real quick. How do we feel about Alvarado not getting a flavorant for basically grabbing his leg and cutting him out
Starting point is 00:12:50 and then Victor getting a flagrant later on for like an accidental elbow. Yeah, it's an accidental elbow to the chin. That's got to be a flagrant. I got it, but I thought. I thought, I thought Alperado could have been a flavor. I thought Alvarado should have got a flagrant. But look, Victor also has had several online things. And he also baited, he baited Robinson into one where he score on him. He's yapping
Starting point is 00:13:08 on the whole way down the court. That's true. But that that's an indisputable flagrant. And, you know, I will say that Victor is going to learn a lesson about running his mouth. Well, and if you're going to taunt like that, When it comes down to time to win the game, you can't go up to the line and have an empty possession. That's my point.
Starting point is 00:13:23 He's going to learn, he's getting his, you know, there's, we've seen repeatedly in this postseason that there's a streak of immaturity in Victor for all of his attributes and all the things he does that are great and all of his great aspects of his mental game. He's got a streak of immaturity and he showed it with that whole act out there. But that's not what I want to talk about right now. I want to talk about the Spurs. Obviously, they went four of 20 in the third. And I think they went something like
Starting point is 00:13:48 I got the boxer right here. There were 8 of 39 overall in the second half. They had more turnovers than buckets in the second half. And a lot of that's the Knicks cranking up their defense. In the fourth quarter, the spurs were four for 19 from the field. They were only one for five from three. So eight of 39 in the second half. How many turnovers?
Starting point is 00:14:06 Nine turnovers. In the fourth quarter, they were four for nine. That's how you blow with 27. In the fourth quarter, they were four for 19 from the field. And they had five turnovers. More turnovers than field goals made is not going to get it done. And Mike Brown, said, hey, we didn't change what we were doing defensive. We did it better. We did it harder.
Starting point is 00:14:22 We did it longer. We were tougher. We were more physical without fouling. The Knicks may end up in the second half and the Spurs will do. More hoop collective podcast after this. This spring, denim gets a softer, lighter update. Introducing Old Navy's drapey denim wide leg, a new fit that moves with you. But there's more than one way to Reese's. From indulgent Reese's big cups with caramel to crunchy Reese's pieces and Reese's miniatures,
Starting point is 00:15:15 there's a delicious Reese. for every mood. It's the same combo you love, just with more ways to enjoy it. So, whether you're snacking, sharing, or just treating yourself, nothing else is Reese's. Now, the first half I thought Mike Brown
Starting point is 00:15:35 was total search mode. Late in the game, he puts Alvarado and Brunson in there together. At one point, I thought, they've made a mistake. They don't want to have them in together. Mike has lost what he's doing. He's lost the plot again.
Starting point is 00:15:51 why does he have Alvarado and Brunson there together? Was that right before or after Brunson? It was-Alvarado's three kind of went all there. Well, listen, what changed the game? Well, hold on. I asked Stats Williams. I go, how many minutes have Alvarado and Brunson played together? Do you know how many minutes they played in the playoffs together?
Starting point is 00:16:10 I'm guessing. Zero. Whoa. Zero. And it was what? In the fourth quarter was what? I think it was like nine. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:16:16 Well, they were, they played basically the whole, the whole end of the game together. And so. Plus 21 in the second half. And I guess taking that Mabel's Brunson to come off the ball. Well, no, it was very simple. The spurt the Knicks, one of the big, Knicks big issues throughout this series and at times this season has been, A, Jalen Brunson pounded the ball too much, right?
Starting point is 00:16:36 Part of the reason Jalen Brunsson pounds the ball too much is there are not a lot of secondary ball handles on the team. Yeah. You have Landryor out there or Deuce McBride out there or a bunch of these different guys, even McHale Bridges. None of them are really good ball handlers to sort of take over the offense, right? By having Jose Alvarado as a short roll option, they kept running these ball, these small, small screens at the top of the court.
Starting point is 00:16:57 They would then double team Jalen Brunson. He would swing the ball over to Alvarado. And then all of a sudden, you got four on three. With another point card. With another guy who can handle the ball. And then he was just making the right play. He's either swinging it to the other side and moving the ball around, starting the blender, or you kind of get in the paint and probe around a little bit
Starting point is 00:17:11 and move it around. And having that secondary guy to get Jalen off the ball and then sometimes get it back and bring it around. It just gave the Knicks another way to attack the defense. defense and the spurs never really adjusted to him. And the spurs didn't double Brunson much until that fourth quarter. Right. And Mike Brown did say, hey, I wanted somebody else who could touch the pain off the dribble.
Starting point is 00:17:30 You know, I wanted another guy, a secondary playmaker, a guy who also gave them the option and taking Brunson off the ball for a possession here, a possession there. Okay. So now, I want to talk about O.G. Ninobe. Ogena Nobie, if we had to vote right now, would have my vote for MVP at the finals. Ogen Ogen O'Nobie is the unanimous finals MVP right now. It ain't a debate.
Starting point is 00:17:52 The second half of this game, O'G. Anobie went seven of nine from the field, five of five on threes. Every time he shoots the ball right now, I think it's going in. I think one of the things that we have seen in the series is how much healthier his hamstring is than it was when he came back in the conference finals. And he makes two plays. Both, I said on Scott Van Pelt, I think both plays could be turned into statues. And he made them both happen within three minutes or real time, chase down block, which we'll talk about Dearen Fox in a second,
Starting point is 00:18:28 and the Tippin. The Tiffin Mike Brown called the most iconic shot in Nick's history. Okay. I'm not in position to dispute that. I'm going to tell you that the block was equally as impressive. Unbelievable play. Absolutely unbelievable play. It's not quite LeBron James because it wasn't game seven.
Starting point is 00:18:48 and the chase down wasn't as significant, but it is right there. Listen, note, it's, it's right there. It might not be, it might not be as significant, but if the Knicks win this championship, it's going to be maybe just behind that one. It wasn't quite the athletic play that LeBron's play was, but my God.
Starting point is 00:19:10 The tipping was, though. Hey, listen, you mean, you say that, but OG was behind the play, and it looked like Deeran Fox, like people were saying, why did DeAren Fox shoot that layout? Yeah. Now hold on.
Starting point is 00:19:20 I'm not, I'm not arguing. He should have pulled it out. He also shouldn't have committed to take foul later. But. Well, hold on. Well, I know.
Starting point is 00:19:26 You're going to way too fast. Relax. You're going to get to that. We're going to get to that. Stop. We wind it back. Stop. Stop.
Starting point is 00:19:33 I'll let you have it. You didn't let me finish with the OG in the block. Just let me do the storytelling. Let me do the storytelling. Let me do the storytelling. It's podcast. It's the Spurs. It's the Knicks possession.
Starting point is 00:19:44 Brunson goes to the basket. And there's a goddamn. car accident at the basket. Brunson's on the floor. Ananoby's on the floor. There's a ball bounces and there's another collision to get the ball. And then the ball squirts out. I mean, the series of events leads up to the ball to Fox getting the ball is unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:20:03 And it looked like Darren Fox was, because he was, way ahead of the field and had a wide open layup. So he went in to take the wide open layup. And OG, who was way behind the play, literally dead sprinted, got back in the play and got there to block the shot somehow. Great play by O.G. Awful decision by Deer and Fox. The right play there is to burn as much clock as you can before you go to line.
Starting point is 00:20:27 It's a one possession game. I agree. I agree. It's a one possession game. I agree. There's no that for the guy who's supposed to be your veteran closure for the Spurs to take that layup is that that's a shot that is going to haunt Deer and Fox forever unless the Spurs can make history and be the second team to come back. from 3-1 deficit in the finals. It was a completely inexcusable decision.
Starting point is 00:20:52 So now I want you to discuss what happened when after the blocked shot. Right. So then the shot gets blocked and Jose Alvarado winds up with the loose ball and is bringing it up on the left-hand side. And Jose Alvarado is a complete chaos agent. Sometimes it's good. Frankly, a lot of times it's pretty bad. and he just gets over half court.
Starting point is 00:21:18 He actually never got over half court. Yeah, because I thought it was over and back, but he never actually, I know it wasn't, it wasn't over and back, but you're saying, okay, go ahead. I watched the replay four times. Yeah. His body comes over half court. The ball never comes over half court. And I don't know whether he did that on purpose, but his, he's got the ball.
Starting point is 00:21:37 He's, his body's up here. And the ball is in the ball's jumping with his right hand. And he's turning to come up. Well, listen. I wouldn't say any committed overback or not. He didn't. I know. It never went over.
Starting point is 00:21:50 I understand. I'm saying the point is he's in the worst spot you could be on the court, which is right around half court with the clock running down and with the spurs having him essentially trapped on the sideline. And Deerrin Fox decides to grab him for a take foul when Jose Ovarado is going backwards away from the basket and nothing good is happening. Frankly, I'm not even sure that he knew he hadn't gone over the yet. I don't know if he knew where he was. He was almost a triple team because he almost thought he had the half court guarding him and the two guys. You could have had a trap there.
Starting point is 00:22:21 And then if he can pass out of it, then you can take your foul. The Knicks had a time out. Right. But like make them take a time out. Make him do something besides giving him an out by the take foul. One thing I didn't know. I don't know. He's near the Spurs bench.
Starting point is 00:22:34 Maybe they were screaming to take the foul. Listen, maybe they were. But he's, again, you're talking about a veteran player. There's five seconds ago in the game. and the guy is running the opposite way from the basket. At best, what are you doing? And you've got him in a trap. Yes.
Starting point is 00:22:50 Make them do something there. You're giving them an out. And then they come in and Brunson took the shot quick. It was a clean look, but it was a deep three. Clean look was like 36 feet. Right. It was a deep three. Now, terrible idea.
Starting point is 00:23:04 Well, here's a thing, though. You got to get a shot up. It was a clean look. It looks good because he got an offensive rebound. It was a clean look and it gives them an opportunity to where if it doesn't go in, It's almost like a two for one if you want to look at it that way. You get a look at it and great percentage shot, but it was a clean look. And if it doesn't go in, you've got guys crashing.
Starting point is 00:23:22 You get a tip. And the other thing is in that spot, too, you don't want to not get a shot up. Yeah. So he's got Victor Wemnon Yamma on him. He gets a decent look. I didn't mind him pulling it. I tell you what. And I'm sitting right where his jersey is going to hang, right between.
Starting point is 00:23:36 I'm serious. I'm right between Frazier and Barnett. So I'm right between 10 and 12. Anyways, but I'm like right on. line of the shot. And as I'm watching that thing go, it was right online. And I don't, was it just long, I think
Starting point is 00:23:51 just long or just whatever it was. It was just long. But it was right online. And then O.G. just comes flying. Now, Victor's on Brunson. So Victor's way out of the play. They're doubling. They're doubling. So he's out of position. Yeah. And then OG just comes flying in. But he's also not hustling it either on the minutes.
Starting point is 00:24:07 Sores over the crowd. Gets the tip. And this building goes bananas. Nojanoi's hand was at the top of the box. And it's not only... It's because he got a 30-foot running starts. Listen, that even then, there are very few players in the league who could get that high up in that spot. And not only that, he's not only at the top of the box.
Starting point is 00:24:27 He's about 13 feet off the ground. He then has to tip the ball in such a way that it's not going to hit the rim and it's going to just drop through the net. Like the level of difficulty of that play is indescribable. Because it requires speed, power, and finesse in the split second. And the shot has to be in the right spot. Like, he can come flying in and do that. And the ball could just carry the other way. Not only that, there were two spurs whose arms were there.
Starting point is 00:24:58 Yeah. It wasn't like it was clean. He's coming in there moving around two other spurs. I mean, if that thing bounces high, it might not matter how, you know, what kind of position. The amount of things that had to happen for that ball to go through the next. that way. It's one of the most insane plays in the history of the sport. And look, if you're a Knicks fan, you walk out of here drunk as hell, feeling like it's meant to be. Like, how else could you feel? I mean, that's what I was thinking. That's what I was thinking. Like this is,
Starting point is 00:25:27 you know, I mean, the Knicks, I've talked about it a lot, but, you know, there's this existential feeling of doom that hangs over this place. Right. No feeling of doom tonight. But it, but it was like that for most of the game. It was like, oh my God, the Knicks are going to do this again. Right. I just got off the first half. They haven't won a finals game in 27 years. I thought Wu-Tang's performance turned it all around. I mean, listen. All I know is this, Fat Joe's back there screaming.
Starting point is 00:25:51 What was he screaming? God loves us. He was like, he was yelling bars. I think he should go into the studio right now. Saw Seinfeld and Larry David after the game. They were flabbergasted. Those dudes, but they should be in the writing room right now, writing about this whole thing.
Starting point is 00:26:04 Listen, Wutang was going, their green room was going crazy. Taylor Swift is, Taylor Swift is, she's out there dancing. She ought to be in the studio right now. I thought she was a Cavs fan. There should be great art being made right now. As everybody siphons off. There's a great something being made right now. This Nick's team, it feels like you said, McMahon.
Starting point is 00:26:24 You have a game like this. You have the Cavs come back. You have the 13 game winning streak, all this stuff. This feels like the Red Sox in 04. It feels like that kind of a team. I was hanging with my new friend, John Titor earlier today. Oh, Lord, have mercy. You are such a fame.
Starting point is 00:26:37 We had a great time. You hear him just. drop like six A-less celebrities in a row about 10 seconds. I had a great all talking to me. I had a great hang. I had a great hang with John Tituro today. And Taturro was saying that he... The funny thing is I was standing right next to Wendy. The guy did not acknowledge my presence.
Starting point is 00:26:52 Of course he did. Go on. Why would he? And he was saying that he rides a subway back after every game to his house, his apartment here. And I mean, he says he likes to hear. Can you imagine what's on the subways right now? I'll also be honest with you. I didn't know who he was. So he didn't know who I was either, to be
Starting point is 00:27:08 fair. No, I mean, look, did This city, this city is a Nick city. It's a, it's a Nick city above everything else. And you saw it today. I mean, I saw, I mean, I saw, I saw, I mean, I saw Ben Stiller walking out of the arena, literally jumping up and down and screaming. Ben Stiller's whooping and hollering on Mike Brown's press conference. I mean, I can't wait to see Stiller's edit from the Lenton, I'm sure he's got great foot.
Starting point is 00:27:30 He's got all kinds of stuff. It's just, it's, uh, I mean, that was, that was one of the most memorable nights of my life. This is an all time class of game. Listen, for the Spurs, it's an epic choke job. Wimby missing the free thows. Fox's bonehead plays down the stretch, miserable offense in the second half, choking up a lead. But this is also a completely in-character, all-time classic win for the Knicks. By the way, second biggest half-time deficit the Knicks faced all season long.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Do you know what the biggest was? I don't. I'll give you a hint. It was during the most miserable stretch of the season for the Knicks. and it was right here in this building. I'm trying to think of the game. I know the game. I can't remember the game.
Starting point is 00:28:15 Against the god-awful Dallas Mavericks. Yes, that's right. One last thing I want to talk about. That's right. The final, final play with 1.2 left. Yes. Mitch Johnson goes to Victor as the decoy, and he goes to a back screen of Steph Castle,
Starting point is 00:28:31 which might have worked because Castle had the angle. If Carl Towns gets his hand on the ball or finger or something. Hey, and you know what? Fitter on the inbound. Kat's first fourth quarter points of the series were huge. They were that shot clock going off, step back three over on the left wing. And that was a huge moment in play. He was like sort of flopping around all over the place and just threw it up there.
Starting point is 00:28:54 And Carl, I have sympathy for Carl because he came out with the right mentality in the game. Now he committed two dumb fouls and got himself on the bench. But like he did come out with the right level of aggression. And in the fourth quarter, he was in the mix. Like he was doing stuff. And again, like you said, it'll get lost somewhat to the sands of time because of how the game went. But it was really smart of Mike Brown to have a seven footer on the inbound pass to make it harder to get the ball in. And I, you know, full credit to Carl for getting his hand on the ball.
Starting point is 00:29:22 And, you know, I mean, Stefan Castle got his hands on. He never really got a shot up. And that was that. Well, it was supposed to be for a lob. It ruined the lot. Right. Also, I want to say, Dylan Harper was 8 of 12 shooting in this game and never showed any fear. And in the last 10 minutes never got a shot.
Starting point is 00:29:38 and it's it's you can micro manage whatever but like it's crazy that the guy who had his hands on the ball at the end is your most veteran player who doesn't deliver and your youngest guy is maybe the guy who should have had the ball and there'll come a point in time where the vet's gone and this young guy showed to run.
Starting point is 00:29:57 That time is probably coming soon but again I'm just I'm just going to go back to the minutes like the spurs lost that game in part in the first quarter by just continuing to run Victor into the ground minutes-wise when they were up by 25. I'm not saying he should play 12 minutes in the game, but you have to be thinking ahead to the fourth quarter, and you can't have the guy on fumes.
Starting point is 00:30:18 You just can't. And I hear all that. And this was a night that was about the Knicks. No, of course. I'm just saying. They're about the Buddhists from the arena. And we can't wrap up on like a wimby minutes ran. I hear what you're saying.
Starting point is 00:30:32 But come on, this is a night about. I was following up on Dylan Harper. That's why. But yes, I mean, obviously, it's an unbelievable night for the Knicks. All right. So we miss Shump, but I feel like we're going to see him in viral videos soon. I just hope Shump survives whatever's going on outside. Don't worry.
Starting point is 00:30:47 Shump ain't just surviving. He's thriving. I mean, he's in his element. That, he is in his element. That was, uh, that was truly a special, that was truly a special scene. Uh, all right. Well, of all the hoop collective shows we've done. This was the most recent.
