Welcome to Broad Ideas.
Happy New Year.
Happy New Year.
I'm waiting for her, but Olivia's on her phone and not responding.
She's a businesswoman.
She is a big Hollywood producer.
Thank you for noticing.
I really appreciate that.
We're like, we always say where the Muppets take Manhattan and...
I was doing.
I'm never dressed up for Halloween is that.
That'd be fun.
Oh, is Statler and Waldorf?
I know.
Happy New Year.
We're doing a very special episode today.
Yeah, we are.
For the fans.
This one's for the fans.
This one's for you.
It's so special.
I'm going to put my phone down.
They're all cheering.
Thanks, Olivia.
Mm-hmm.
Yes.
So we posted to get questions.
from fans.
Yep.
And we don't have any.
Yeah, and we got one.
No, we got a lot.
We can try to go through a big chunk of these today.
Shout out to Caitlin Tan Jo, our amazing social media person,
who helped gather and collect all these questions for us.
Thank you very much.
Yay.
She's the best.
She's an all-star.
Okay, first question.
Who would survive longer?
a reality TV show and why?
Well, what's the premise?
See, this is where I go.
I'm like, I need details.
Sure.
Okay.
I mean...
Yeah, it depends on what kind of show.
Like, if it's like a Vanderpump, I've actually never seen it.
I was going to say Olivia, but if it's like a survivor, it would be me.
I agree.
Right?
100%.
100%.
Or like real housewives, it would be Olivia.
But like naked and afraid.
It would be me.
What would you have guessed, Kevin?
I would guess the same, like social survivor versus actual survivor.
Right.
Exactly.
You got it.
That's why we make a great team because if you put us together, we're going to survive.
Yes.
You know what I mean?
You are going to talk to those beasts in the wilderness.
Yeah, and you're going to be like, let's fucking swim.
Right?
Hilarious.
I like that one.
I like that one a lot.
Very creative.
Very cute.
Next question.
If you guys could switch lives for a week, what would you do?
Switch lives for a week.
Yeah.
Okay, great.
You go first.
No, you go because you have yours teed up.
I can see it.
Well, I'm trying to think about which one.
Kevin, what about you?
I know what I would do if I was Rachel for a week.
What?
Oh, that's what we were doing, right?
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, if we switch lives with each other, what would we do?
Oh!
As the other person.
I thought you were saying if you switch lives with like anyone, what would it be kind of thing?
We could do both.
Is that what it was?
I think it was with each other, but we should do both.
Okay.
All right, what, Lou?
What would you do with me?
Rachel, you would have to.
have so much cozy time with my husband.
It does require a lot.
If I was Rachel for a week, this is the truth.
This is what I would do.
I would purge so much stuff and do like really optimal home organization and
minimalize because she's got a little stuff.
I have news for you.
You can do that without being me.
But then I, but how do I take off the time from being me to do that?
Do you see what I mean?
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
So that's one thing I would do.
What else would I would do?
Oh, you know what I would do?
What?
Because I wanted to do this at the sportsman's lodge anyways.
Like, I would want to go up to people with Rachel's face and engage them in a way where I'm like,
hey, would you mind if I could take a picture with you?
And like, I would be like super generous with my celebrity and like really make people
weird.
Well, I like making people happy.
And I can feel like if you go into certain demographics of people, she makes them happy.
And so I would like go do that for like a day and like just like surprise attack people.
make them really happy.
You know what I would like to do?
If I was Olivia,
go eat my weight in Mexican food with like never getting full,
followed by as many pieces of seize candy as I so please,
and still never get full.
And then I would really like to cuddle with Shepherd and get it.
Yeah.
That would be my day.
That's a good day.
That's a good day.
The amount of food you can consume is actually a talent.
I know.
And I wish I could just, I want to get down at Casa Vega with the OG enchilada sauce.
Did you guys see my video of Shepard yesterday?
No, I didn't see it.
Rachel Sarah Bilsen.
What do you do?
So he was dancing to a Kid LaRoy song, and when that song comes on, he comes to life in a way that it's just like his true essence.
And my friend Billy sent it to Kid LaRoy.
Whoa.
Kid LaRoy.
Oh, my gosh.
And do you want to know Shepard's reaction when I told him today?
What?
I said, you know the guy that sings the song?
song that you love.
He wrote awesome on your
video and put a bunch of little like
like hairy faces
because he's so awesome.
And Shepard goes, oh yeah,
he should see me dance to
he should see me dance to your idol.
He's like, great. This is the start of a business
relationship. Let's keep going.
Yeah, he was like, oh, he liked that.
He should see my real stuff.
But Elliot,
but Elliot,
but Elliot geeked out.
Elliot geeked out.
Also, remember when Elliot thought John Ham was God?
Wait, or what was it?
And then we got through like a mutual friend,
we got John Hamm to send a video to Elliot.
Why did he think he was God?
So he actually cured his OCD.
So he was having like some severe OCD things where
he would have these like repetitive thoughts and be like,
if I don't wash my hands, am I okay?
Like he thought like he was just having like a real OCD moment.
And one day he walked in and Jeff and I were watching Mad Men and it was a scene where John
Ham like strangles this woman.
And Elliot was like a little like what was he like four or something?
Like four or five.
Yeah.
And he saw that and he lost his mind.
And it was like kind of like haunting him, you know.
And so one day he came into the kitchen and he was like kind of stressing and he was like, kind of stressing.
And he was like, Mom, like, I just want to know that later is okay.
Like I, and I said, Elliot, that wasn't real.
The guy in the TV show was just having a bad dream.
And so he was like, well, can that guy stop having those dreams?
And I was like, you want John Hamm to stop having those dreams?
And we recorded this, you know?
Yeah.
And he was like, yeah, I'm just praying that John Han stops having those dreams.
And so I sent it to Rachel.
and she sent it through the channel of the Illuminati.
Sure.
And we got in return a video of John Hamm being like, hey, Elliot.
Wow.
I just wanted to let you know those dreams stopped and I'm good.
And it literally, he thought, because he was praying for it to stop.
He thought his prayers had been heard.
by John Ham.
John Ham is God.
John Ham is God, which kind of is, okay?
Yeah.
His OCD evaporated after that and now the ounce of it came back.
So John Ham is the cure.
Yeah, true.
John Ham is God.
If something like that happened to me as a kid, I would become so religious so quickly.
Just be like, well, I guess this works.
So that's really cool.
Okay, those are both good answers.
Who would you swap with literally anybody, like a celebrity or musician?
Any person.
Go ahead, Ray.
There's a few things going around my head.
I mean, that's really tough because I feel like that's going to take a lot of thought,
because I really would like to get this right.
the first thing that came into my head
was Amy Schumer
because being able to walk around
the world every day and be that funny
would be the best thing.
Yeah.
Yeah, I feel someone with like a Larry David or something.
It's funny, my two answers are like
Larry, David, or Taylor Swift.
Like I was trying to think of like, what are the most,
like, would it be fun or so exhausting
because I keep seeing
ads for the Taylor Swift like era's documentary. Is that what just came out?
Yeah. Which I kind of want to watch. It seems interesting. But just being at that level where
every hour of your day is completely booked, but it's also extremely rewarding, but it's
exhausting, where I'm like, I don't think I could do it as a week. I think I would want to do it as like
for three days. Right. Yeah. There's two that come to mind for me. If it's just a day,
Yep.
Okay.
These are very different directions.
Okay.
One, I would switch place with Trump and then just like change some stuff real quick.
Sure.
It seems like that's like an option right now.
Fix a few things.
Yeah.
I'd be like, let's change this real quick.
Like let's, you know.
I was just kidding about the other stuff.
The Olivia Allen Kennedy Center.
Yeah.
Just that.
I would love that.
And then it would be, I don't.
I don't remember her last name, but I would switch with Inez.
Oh, Brad Pitt's girlfriend.
Yeah, just for a day.
You know what I mean?
Like, I would like to try that on for a day.
Yeah.
Sure.
But like a day off, not like a day where they do anything.
I would trade places with Adam Sandler's wife because I just feel like.
Oh.
Yeah.
Imagine if he was like your partner.
How great would life be?
Okay.
That's a different direct.
Sorry.
I like it.
Put it in my head.
And I was like, you know, experiencing like Adam Sandler as a partner, I feel like would be a blessing.
Yeah.
Did you see that clip that she's in like, I didn't know she's been in like 15 of his movies?
That's so cool.
They're so cute.
Oh, my God.
They're so cute.
And haven't they been together forever?
For a long time.
Yeah.
I love it.
I know.
It's what I'm saying.
You know, he just seems like such a good guy.
Yeah.
Yep.
I've only heard good things.
Yeah.
Yeah, same.
He's very nice.
Those are my two.
I wouldn't mind being Oprah for a day and like walking through her garden and like just like, you know, I bet she's got real good snacks.
And like, like, cozy blankets and pillows and couches.
Like I just think that Oprah's house would probably feel really good.
Mm-hmm.
You know?
Yeah.
I would want to like cozy up on her couch and read a book for the day.
and then maybe talk to Svedman a little over dinner.
Olivia, it's so funny to imagine you as Oprah,
but you're just reading a book.
I'm just Oprah reading a book and like eating her snacks and like.
What about if you were like Megan Markle for a day and like figure out like what is going on?
Oh, that's good, like investigative journal.
Yeah.
That's fun.
That's fun too.
Yeah.
Or yeah, like, what?
What are the secrets we need to know, like who?
Yeah.
Well, Gazelle, what's her?
I can never say her name.
Giselle.
Yeah.
No, Gailene, whatever.
Maxwell, yeah.
Yeah, like what really is in those Epstein files?
Yep.
This is getting good.
You guys, we are investigating.
Now I, like, want to do that.
We should do some detective episodes.
Please.
Has that been a TV show?
Is that like, I'm trying to think of something, I'm sure there is.
Wipes flop.
But we're like, you can like, maybe as a superpower, like, become a person to find out information.
It sounds like a superheroy kind of.
I'm sure it exists.
But it sounds kind of fun.
Like for that exact reason of like, okay, I pretended I was the vice president and learned a bunch of information.
Like a shape shifter in a.
Yeah.
Right.
Yeah. Another question. Perfume racks with a bunch of question marks.
Oh. Hmm. It's so funny. Do you ever find that people like with perfume, it can be so personal and then they like don't want to give away their scent?
Interesting.
Yeah. Yeah, that's the thing.
There was a perfume in high school that all the girls wore that we were obsessed with. Do you remember Biblos?
Yeah, that was never my scent. But I know it wasn't.
was like you have my scent and like you can't wear my scent it's like wow yeah it's a it was a real thing um
i have the past years i've liked the kai rose is a good one mm-hmm i liked that one um what were you
going to say lou i'm trying to find this one because the name of it well i know my
Mine's called like, is it called, it's not called Janie's Got a Gun.
It's called, something's got a gun.
Really?
Mm-hmm.
That's the scent I wear and I don't wear anything else.
However, someone did send one recently, and it was the first time I liked a scent.
Was it the one from Lenny or no?
No, did you try that?
No, I smelled really good.
I'm trying to find it because it's like Rose.
Jane, I, carry on.
I'm going to find it because it smelled really good.
Wait, that's the one that Lenny sent.
It's like Jane Rose something or other.
Oh, is it?
Yeah, I like it a lot.
Me too, but I don't know what, sorry, what we're going to say, Kev.
Does Jeff wear Cologne, Olivia?
No.
I kind of want to get into Cologne.
I haven't done it since high school.
It was such a thing.
Like, junior high high school, like the guys all had a scent.
Fahrenheit.
I used to love it as a young girl, but now I don't like it.
I just like, like, deodor.
What was the other one that started with a C that the guys would wear that was like,
and they would spray their sweatshirts.
And so when you were apart, you would have their sweatshirt with their cologne on it.
What was the one that started with the C when we were in high school?
Cool water.
No, well, cool water for sure.
But it wasn't that.
It was something else.
It was going to drive me crazy.
I always liked, like, the smell of, like, old spice and stuff.
sweat, but that's like I grew up with that my dad. Okay, the perfume is called by Jane,
by Rosie Jane. I think that's the one. Rosie Jane. Smells so good. The one that we just got.
Okay, I didn't know that. Wait, are you saying that's the one you always wear? No. I weren't
being got a gun. Something's got a gun. Yeah, but the one that we just got that you just said is really
good. Yeah, and I like it. So here's the thing. Do you know the trick to finding your,
right scent. That's a great question. I would love to know. So apparently, and I don't know if this
is true, because like Rachel and I could both wear the same perfume and it might be right for me
and wrong for her based on our pheromones. So supposedly, if you wear a perfume and you can
smell it on you, it's not your right perfume. Right. So if you wear a perfume and you spray it
and then throughout the day you don't even smell it on you, that's your right scent. Mm-hmm.
Wow.
Correct.
That's interesting.
When I worked at this podcast network for a couple years,
LeVar Burton had a show there,
and he had this incredible, like, lavender, lemon cologne smell
that he would apply, like, before the recordings.
And it just made the studio smell so good.
And it's just a thing I feel like, especially a lot of guys,
I think, just, like, take for granted.
But what was interesting about it,
too was, I was like, oh, the room smells better.
Not that it smelled bad, but when you would, like, walk in, because at the time, my job
was basically like, hey, can I get you a water or coffee or anything?
And whenever I would walk in, I was like, oh, man, it smells so good in here.
And it was always like he was putting on some lotion and stuff.
But I feel like it is a scent I take for granted sometimes.
So I want to kind of maybe get a light cologne or something next.
year. People have any recs. Yeah, for sure. Not a crazy one. There's a really nice one for men.
It's, what's that brand, Rachel, where they have... Salt and Stone? No, I do like
Salt and Stone, though. No, it's like, it's like a cosmetic brand that we all used to use.
It'll come to me if we move on. Okay. It sounds really good.
I overheard a friend who is kind of like in the tech side of podcasting.
His splurge is like high-end cologne.
And I was kind of surprised.
I was like, wow, I didn't know.
But I only talked to him over Zoom.
So I've never met him in person.
And so I'm like, yeah, I guess I've never smelled you before.
I thought it was kind of a fascinating, like a splurge item.
Yeah.
I actually don't love when I can smell people.
I like a little bit like you have to get in for the hug to be able to smell them.
But if you smell them before they...
Yeah, it's too much.
I'm like, ooh.
Did you smell, like, I've been wearing this oil.
Have you smelled it on me?
Not once.
Do you smell mine?
No, but I'm always around you, so I don't know.
Yeah, no.
You know.
The big thing for me in junior high was Axe Body Spray,
and the guy's always before, like, a party would just,
like way too much.
And the girls were always like,
it smells disgusting.
And honestly,
if they probably did like a tiny spray,
it would be fine.
But guys had no idea how much to put on.
So they're like,
I guess I just put half the bottle.
It was disgusting.
Commitment.
I don't like that.
Yep.
And it never worked.
Next question.
How did the book club come along?
And how do you guys pick books?
That's a good question.
Well, we have been wanting to start one for a very long time.
I love to read.
And we also like to read things to get creative with them if we want to turn them into things, like projects.
So it was just a combination of both of those.
But I love, love, love, love, love books.
And I just wanted us to expand our community and also connect.
in another way through reading.
And it's really fun to do together because it's always fascinating to hear how people interpret it.
And so it just like broadens our conversations with our friends.
And even like my mom, it was so cute.
She was like, that last one was so relatable.
And I was like, what?
Why?
Like, what about that is relatable?
Yeah.
And it's like I learned more about her experience.
And so that's really interesting.
And then, you know, also for me, one of the things is is that I really love reading, but I don't make the time for it.
And so having the accountability of committing to it, it's like it's not an option.
I got to get that done.
So it's kind of like a force break away from screens and shows.
And, you know, that's helpful in my life because I don't make the time to do it as much anymore.
Right. That's a good point. It's like when you have to. I'm definitely a half to person.
Me too.
What I like about it too is like in, you know, today's world, it's so easy for any show or a movie or podcast just to be on TikTok, Instagram, social media.
And I've been like dipping my toe back into reading more, especially with Desmond.
But I'm trying to like, hey, now I'm just going to like read my books out loud to him too.
just so he's like hearing it more.
And what's been enjoyable about it is you can't do anything else and read.
You can't look at Instagram and read a book where for like,
I'm like, oh, I want to watch the show everyone's talking about.
And even if I'm enjoying it, my brain just can't not like check my phone really quick
or like see that I got an email where when I'm reading, really the only thing that
distracts me is like my own thoughts if I'm like oh did I do whatever but I would rather have that
as a distraction than like um looking at my phone or you know because with my phone I'm I'm fully then
disengaged in what I'm consuming where with books you you can't do that right it's true
yeah and it's like a use it or lose it thing it's like as a child you're put in so many different
circumstances to use your imagination and then
as you get older, the circumstances for that become less and less, depending on what you do.
But I think having like a sort of space for that in your life to actually use your imagination and let it play and create is really valuable.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
Good question.
Thank you for sending it.
Here's another one.
This is a deeper one.
What have you learned about yourself and interviewing others?
instead of being interviewed.
Wow.
We're getting deep.
I like it.
I do, too.
Interviewing others instead of getting interviewed.
I mean, it's really interesting because it's been like a new skill for me
because I have been trained in so many ways for so many years and like how to
answer things or be ready for things. So when it was turned and I was like asking questions or even
talking freely, there were a few things I learned the hard way where things were, you know,
taken out of context and whatnot. But more so, just like what kind of questions to ask,
having been on the other side for so long. So like really kind of like the kind of questions
you ask. It was really interesting for me to kind of explore and figure out.
Yeah. And I feel like I've been interviewing my whole life.
Yeah. She meets somebody and basically you're in a full-blown interview.
Yeah. So I've never actually been on the other side of it of me being interviewed unless we go do someone else's podcast or something like that.
But like it does what I've learned is actually what I've learned is that it's kind of my natural state.
Yes, it is a natural state.
state for sure. And like yesterday we were at lunch and we had to turn it off because our friend was
like not really wanting to be interviewed. Yeah. And we that was, wasn't that hard, Rachel? Yeah. I was like,
wait, what? But I still did. I still asked. I know you did. That was hilarious. I was like,
he was like, I really don't want to answer any of these questions. You're like, okay. Well, what about
this? This question. But it, it was at.
actually hard.
And to me, I'm like, how do you
conversate if you're not
asking questions?
Right. Yeah.
What do you do?
Yeah, it's, it's,
it's just people saying statements
at each other, which then feels like you're almost not
even listening.
It's also made me more aware
of like how many questions
I ask people.
Also, it's made me
aware of being around other
people that don't ask any questions.
Yep, 100%.
And I'm like, oh, that's really interesting.
Like, they'll just sit in the silence until you ask another question.
Yeah.
Or say another statement.
So it's really brought awareness of actual conversations in general.
Right.
It's so fascinating.
It's, it's, I love my job for that reason.
It's just fun to watch how.
people have conversations with each other. Another thing that I really like that you both do
is off, Mike. You're both very reassuring with the guest before we start like, hey, this is just
like a good time. Like, we're going to have a fun talk. If there's anything you want us to cut,
we're happy to cut it. This is not live. So don't feel like, this is not a radio show or something.
So I think you do a really good job, too, of like, you kind of set the scene of like, we just want to have a nice chat.
you or like an interesting conversation.
Yeah.
But if there's anything that we're like jumping into that you feel weird about,
no problem at all.
We don't want you to feel uncomfortable.
Where some people I think don't do any of that table setting and then guests have to
figure it out as they're, because when you don't do that, in my experience, guests kind of
start on defense and then like then slowly, slowly warm up rather than feel warmed up.
like at the beginning, you know?
Right.
I've never thought of that because we, you know, haven't really been privy to much of how other people do it.
Right.
So it's never even occurred to me.
And I think that the other thing, too, is that I don't really even feel like we're interviewing.
Like, when we talk to people, that is straight up what we're like at dinner.
Yeah.
You know?
Sure.
Yeah.
It's just organic.
Yeah, we're just talking to them.
Like, we're not trying to get some, like, sound bite or clickbait or we're not
investigative journalists trying to get the story.
We're really just like, can we get to know you in this hour?
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I think because of that, guest feels so comfortable.
I mean, not to, as the kids say, glaze you right now.
but the amount of people that after we finish recording say that was so great.
Like I can't believe how comfortable that was.
And then what's funny about that is I feel like that's almost revealing of like, oh, wow, you, the guest have probably had a lot of experience that are not like that, not like this, you know.
It's fascinating when people kind of exhale after the recording of like, wow, that was so easy.
We're like, yeah, that's what we want.
Yeah.
I know.
It was always like, oh, like surprising.
Yeah, it's, yeah, it's really interesting.
I'm like, what do people normally do, do you?
Because genuinely, it feels like most people, I've never, there's only been like maybe
one or two guests in the history of us doing this that I could feel their discomfort.
Yep.
Outside of that, like, I've always felt like they genuinely feel comfortable, which is so cool.
Yeah.
it's a really good feeling and it's just like really fun when you guys like exchange numbers or
instagrams and stuff after and it's not like a okay thank you and then they just leave like that's
kind of a bummer too a lot of my favorite experiences um sorry i'm making this about me so quickly
but across my career a lot of my favorite experiences in podcasting have been um when the recording
goes so well the guest and the host end up talking for
like 25 minutes after or like become friends and stuff.
And just the ones that are the most like tense to me or stilted, they feel like they're doing
like some press interview and they're treating you like some journalist trying to get a sound
bite, not you specifically, but like it's like, no, that's not the vibe we're going for.
And so it's always fun when we hang out a little bit with the guests after, if we have time
for it and stuff or chat beforehand.
And I think that kind of like makes the whole thing feel smoother.
And we walked away with real friendships from it.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Like really connected with people and being like, oh, you're our people.
Yeah.
That's really cool.
Speaking of perfect segue into this, I especially love the Jackie Tone episode so much.
What do you remember most about recording it?
For me, it's the shoe song.
trying to get some shoes.
Did she ever get them?
Did she ever get the boots from you?
I gave her the shoes.
And then we went to lunch with her.
Yeah, we went to lunch after.
Jackie, I have known for years and years and years.
And she is just one of the most hilarious best people ever.
And she's just instant comfort.
Like, when people are instantly comfortable, we're like, oh, you're our people.
that's how it is. Yeah. Yeah. And you never know who it's going to be. No.
No. Like you think it's going to be one person and then someone else comes in and you're like, whoa, weird, interesting. Like I wouldn't have known that. I would feel so comfortable with you. Yeah. Here's the thing I think about a lot too with, or I've been thinking a lot about recently because I have a friend in my group of friends who everyone feels so comfortable and has
kind of that person that everyone ends up like telling their secrets to for some reason.
It's like they're just that comfort where people, they immediately trust this guy.
He's a great guy.
And then the kind of other side of that is because I think he's so trusting and charismatic,
I don't want to say he's able to get away because that sounds negative.
But I watched him kind of call out one of our friends for something.
And in my head, I was thinking like, if anyone else in this group did this, I don't want to say it would be a fight.
But because he's so comforting to people, he was able to say to someone else in our group, hey, man, how come other people have met your girlfriend and we have it?
You guys have been dating for a year.
We would love to meet her.
And I just knew driving home, I'm like, if I said that or if anyone else, it probably would have come out a little stilted.
but he was so comforting and calm.
The guy was able to kind of say, yeah, you're right.
I don't know.
I'm sorry.
There was no bad intent with that.
And I just watched this callout happen that I've been clearly thinking about all week.
Wow.
You know why that is?
I have a theory.
Why is that?
Because he's trustworthy.
So people you trust can say damn near anything and you're going to be like, okay, I see what you mean.
Yeah.
Because you know they're in a.
integrity and they're just trustworthy people.
And so there's no weird motives or not trying to make them feel bad or make it about
them.
They're just trustworthy.
And so that's why people like that can just say things because you're just like, yeah,
you're right.
You know, not to say you're not trustworthy, but like it sounds like this guy has like a certain
trustable quality that people just buy into what he's saying.
Yep.
And it's like, you know, we were talking about the last question, too.
It's like energy too.
Like I think he just has this warm, soft energy and knowing that his heart's in the right place.
So it's like the same with Jackie.
It's like you can just immediately tell her heart is in the right place and people, and she's trusting.
And so I bet she's able to get a million people to open up to her about anything.
She's able to get shoot.
You're able to get shoot.
Can we tell you.
Great. That was a great question.
Where are your bags from in the What's My Bag video?
I don't know if that is.
Which video?
Oh, what's in my bag? Is that like Amoeba?
Yours is the black messenger.
Oh, it's great.
Oh, a really old vintage Prada messenger bag I got off the Real Real.
And mine is Claire.
V that I got off a Rachel
gifting me.
On her birthday.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Kind of connected to that.
What's a go-to makeup item you can't live without?
Oh.
Oh, we know.
Lips.
She has so many lipstick at all times in her purses.
Fun.
I'm a big fan of the Ilya, but my go-to, since I was probably 12 years old, is the
Dr. Pepper Lipsmackers that they don't make anymore.
I really like the Ilya
lip liners. I like
the Thrive Mascara a lot.
I've also
another thing that I have trusted for
20 plus years is the Bobby Brown
bronzer. Oh yeah.
I love the
Armani Silk Foundation
too. You do love that.
I love that. I love it.
it and I'm out of it right now and I feel like
Remember when you accidentally
bought your mom's color or something
and you were like 10 shades lighter
on accident wearing your makeup?
And I switched over to
just a tinted moisturizer
but I don't feel
I don't like it.
I like the Armani silk.
Okay. It's so pretty.
It's so pretty.
Mm-hmm.
Two more questions.
What is your dream
menu with each
course from a different part of the world.
Oh, seriously.
Or we just say dream menu, make it a little easier.
No, we can go around the world.
We can go around the world.
Great.
Are we starting with appetizer?
Probably.
Well, you've got to start with breakfast.
No, no, no.
A menu?
Oh, like all day?
Oh, breakfast.
Got it.
I was just doing a dinner in my mind.
You're right.
What's your favorite breakfast?
I mean, I love pancakes.
Yeah.
Me too.
So where do pancakes originate from?
I'll Google it.
I feel like it's America.
But I could be a long.
Well, the crepe, but the crepe is different than a pancake.
I don't want a crate.
You want a pancake.
I want a fluffy pancake.
DuPars pancakes are the best.
DuPars.
That's American.
Ancient Greek.
What?
The first written record of pancakes come from the ancient Greeks and Romans.
That's interesting.
That is interesting.
I love a cinnamon bun.
You do love a cinnamon bun.
I really do.
I don't know where in the world I'm going for it, though.
Where's the best cinnamon bun you've ever had?
I want people to write in and talk about the
best cinnamon bun or sticky bun. It doesn't have to have the icing. I actually kind of prefer it
when it doesn't. I know it's controversial. But I want people to write in and tell us where your
favorite cinnamon roll slash bun slash sticky bun is. And I would like to go there. What are your
thoughts on cinnamon bun? I mean, I'll get down if I'm at if I need it. But you don't have like,
oh, my favorite cinnamon roll that just like haunts my head.
Well, I really love the one my Aunt Carol makes and sends me for my birthday.
Oh, Aunt Carol.
I like her freezer cake.
Is that what it's called?
The pound cake?
Yeah.
Yeah.
My aunt is an amazing baker, but she'll make me her cinnamon buns and send them for my birthday.
They're so good.
Kevin, what's your breakfast?
That's choice.
Yeah.
Man, now that I'm off the vegan game, we've been doing like an everything, a toasted everything bagel.
with egg cheese and like a sausage patty.
And like, just fully loaded.
And it's absolutely incredible.
But I love pancakes so much too.
I feel like I got back into pancakes for some reason, like a year ago.
We go to like Millie's Diner.
Sometimes there's one in Silver Lake.
There's one in Pasadena.
And their pancakes are phenomenal.
So I really like.
pancakes but also like an egg bacon cheese or egg sausage cheese sandwich are both fantastic.
You have a favorite bagel?
Cinnamon raisin.
Oh, wild.
That just shocked my brain.
I've never heard that for someone.
Is it from a certain place?
Cinnamon raisin.
I like the Einstein bagels a lot.
We go to Einstein bagels like once a week, and I always get the cinnamon raisin there.
You don't do the egg and the sausage and the cheese on the cinnamon raisin.
No, just with everything.
So if I'm having it with everything, it's everything bagel.
But if I'm doing a solo bagel, it's cinnamon raisin.
She was having a real hard time with that.
Yeah, that would have been.
Butter or cream?
Um, peanut butter.
At the store?
No, sometimes I'll bring them home.
But I do every kind of, I like cream cheese a lot.
Butter I don't do as much with bagels.
I would say I'm like a honey almond cream.
There's like a honey almond one at Einstein's that's really good.
Or if I'm eating them at home, I always throw a little peanut butter on a bagel.
Pneb butter on a bagel.
Especially everything bagel.
What?
Yep.
Never.
Done that.
Whoa.
Whoa.
All right, Rachel, where's your lunch?
And from what part of the world?
What's my lunch?
I love the buffalo chicken wrap from sweet butter in Sherman Oaks.
So good.
I love the chicken salad sandwich from Perry's Joint in Pasadena.
That's go.
There's sandwiches.
Do I have another favorite sandwich?
What about from different parts of the world, though?
I know from the world.
Well, I have one thing that we know was in Paris,
but it would probably be more dinner than lunch,
which is my favorite cheeseburger.
Right.
Yeah.
Didn't you have some stuff in Japan to that?
You really liked?
Did it?
I can't remember what it was.
I can't remember it either.
It's also my memory, which is really unfortunate.
But I don't ever forget that cheeseburger.
I'll tell you that much.
What's a go-to dessert for you guys?
I will go to Great Links for Crembleau.
Not me.
Never.
That would never be my...
Like Jeff and I have left restaurants that don't have it
and gone for dessert at other restaurants that have it.
That's awesome.
I want to start doing that.
I love dessert.
I love dessert.
I don't.
I don't like cake.
Interesting.
I particularly don't like chocolate cake.
Me too, Rachel.
I'm not a big chocolate cake I either.
I don't get it.
It's too sweet.
It's too sweet.
I will never pick a cake.
I will always go for if there's like a crumble, warm with ice cream or like, you know, that kind of dessert I will go for.
I love a banana milkshake.
I don't like ice cream, but love a banana milkshake.
Yeah.
You're, you're going to go as far to say, I don't like ice cream.
Yeah, I don't like ice cream.
I don't like cake.
You're saying really weird.
I know, controversial comment.
I get it.
I know.
I know.
Like, if I was serving ice cream and cake, you'd be like, no, thanks.
I'm good.
Or would you have a little?
If you were serving ice cream and cake, I would say no, thank you.
The last time you get to go to Olivia's.
I mean, but what do you do in that situation?
Like, you don't even taste it?
You don't even taste it and then be like, no, I'm good.
You don't even want to know?
No.
Olivia offering Rachel cake, Rachel's saying no,
and Olivia's saying, what do you do?
Like, what do you do in that circumstance?
I don't know.
I don't think I've ever said no to anything.
No, you wouldn't.
I'd be like, let me try it.
Let me try it.
What's that honey candy you like, Rachel?
You gave me one and I really liked it.
It was kind of a tough.
Yeah, that was really good.
Bit of honey is so good.
It's old-fashioned.
Oh, it was delicious.
Okay.
So then, all right, so your lunch would be a sandwich.
And then your dinner would be the cheeseburger in Paris.
And your dessert would be a crumble.
Heaven?
For dessert?
Oh, no, hold on.
Go ahead.
Yeah.
This isn't in another part of the world, but there's a bread pudding at a restaurant in Jersey that is my favorite dessert.
Bread pudding.
Not bread pudding.
I don't think I've had it.
It sounds very good.
Go to Jersey.
But you like cheesecake?
Yep, I do.
That's not cake, though.
It's not the same thing.
No, I know.
It's different.
But you would take a piece of pie over cake.
If it was warm with ice cream, yeah.
But not on its own.
Ice cream has a place in my heart and my mouth.
It's on a piece of pie or it's in a milkshake or it has banana pieces in it like a banana, the split, but different.
Okay.
I'll never turn down ice cream if there's banana accompanying it.
Have you had the Seas Candy ice cream from McConnell's yet, though?
No.
Rachel.
It's got the candy that we like and then it's got like the coffee, the brittle one in the ice cream.
It's seized candy in the ice cream ice cream.
Olivia, there's a seized candy by my place.
So next time we record at my place, we need to swing by after.
Leah got me for Christmas a lot of seas candies, the like coffee chocolate beans.
They're really good.
we were up really late a couple nights ago
just trying to get everything ready before our flight
and we both had a bunch of them
and we were both like wired
in a way that was actually helpful
because we were able to get a bunch of stuff done
and we were just devouring the Seas candies.
Wait, do you go to Saras when you're out there?
I don't know, I don't think I've been there.
Oh, Kevin, you got to go to Saris.
Okay.
It's so awesome.
It's a chocolate shop and it's really,
fun. Like they've got, especially for the holidays, you definitely want to go there. It's really fun.
It's like a really cute, like, kind of like factory-ish chocolate shop. But they decorate.
That sounds awesome. They've got really good chocolate. Yeah, especially for the holidays.
And they have like every shape you could possibly imagine. Yeah. This is a big deal.
I'm going to write it down. I'll bring it up tonight. We're going to Fitz Conservatory.
You haven't had Sarah's chocolate?
Not to my knowledge.
I mean, maybe I have.
I don't know.
I don't think so.
They tell it at the airport there and everything.
Oh, great.
I'll ask Leah about it when we get off.
Rachel and I were seized candy yesterday.
We were.
Hell yeah.
Hell yeah.
Okay, last question.
Are there any other projects you guys are working on besides the podcast and book club?
This can be kind of our plug section as we wrap up.
as a matter of fact we do we do and yeah there's an article that came out right before break for everyone
we've been having a project in development for a while and it's all tied in even our book club
because our book for november december was sweet bitter by stephanie danler who is
helping adapt a show from another book you can't
can continue, Lou, I just started. Yeah. The sharper your night. The sharper your night.
We are in development on and we do. We have a production company and we've got a lot of other things that we're
working on, which is so exciting. And they all tie in together to the podcast, to the book club.
It's all about finding material that really excites us. And now we get to do the fun part of bringing
to life. So
nice. Our production company
is called 1933.
And Rachel, why don't
you tell them? Why did we name it 1933?
Because those were
our pager codes in high.
Those were our pager codes in
high. Wow.
That's awesome. Isn't it?
Isn't it sound so like meaningful
in like 1933?
Like something really amazing.
Like historic and like, yeah.
Like it was our pager codes.
It was our pageer codes.
That's so funny.
Well, congrats.
I'm very excited.
Thanks.
Thank you.
We are too.
We are too.
Very cool.
Very excited.
And thank you all for all of your questions.
That was a lot of fun.
That was a blast.
You should do that more often.
Absolutely.
And tell me where to get cinnamon buns.
Please.
And we'll try and get to the other questions we couldn't get to.
We'll mix them in.
Yeah.
Do it next time.
Yeah.
Thanks everyone.
And happy new year.
And we hope.
All of your new year's wishes come true.
Yeah.
We do.
Woohoo.
Bye.
That was a hate gum podcast.
That was a hate gum podcast.
