Well, everybody was talking about it.
You guys kept asking,
are you guys going to watch heated rivalry?
And boy, did we.
What a phenomenal show.
Yeah, I think in particular I've watched episode five,
three or four times.
It's one of my favorite episodes of any show that I've ever seen.
But what an absolute whirlwind.
Yeah, we might be a little late on this one,
but we know you guys are going to appreciate it.
Because this is the love story.
of our generation.
As there's a drive in a deep left field by Castellanos,
it will be on,
oh man, it's 8 o'clock.
And so that'll make it a...
I don't need the spotlight.
I shine just fine.
Hi, I'm Karma.
And yes, I am a bitch.
Bravo Bros.
Good afternoon, everybody.
Welcome back to another episode of Brav Bros.
Your favorite show from...
Damn, I really keep forgetting this.
Here we go.
Good afternoon, everybody.
Welcome back to another episode of Brabros.
your favorite show from the brosso for everybody i'm your co-hoste you're also joined us always by
ooh what would be your hockey name shooter mcgoltender shoot shoot on the goaltender shoot on mcc
oh there it is shoot on mcgold kender no shut up it's my thing oh okay well is that is this open
for anybody who wants to listen because i didn't hear that part for whoever wants to damn i messed it up
again didn't i yeah i'm working on it through it it's okay look i mean much like we just kind
to jump around in the timeline in the beginning of this show.
By the way,
we didn't even really introduce what we were talking about.
We're talking about a need of rivalry, baby.
Yes, I,
I,
I'm in love with this show.
I am so
captivated.
I have episode six to watch it because I,
I was going to bang them all out,
but Dev and I wanted to watch it together.
So it's been,
we've had to find time because of the baby,
you know, we're tired at night,
but we're all the way,
got through episode five.
which my god, cinema.
But yeah, we're going to watch episode six tonight.
Then we'll do our recap tomorrow of five and six.
And just to get you guys up to speed, we will be doing three episodes.
Episode one and two will be this episode.
And we'll do three and four and then we'll end it up with five and six.
But I wasn't prepared, dude.
Like I heard a lot of great things.
I heard it's a remarkable love story.
And I was like, all right, we'll give it a go.
I also obviously heard about all the sex.
And I watched.
And after the first.
Five or ten minutes of episode one, I was completely hooked.
It's fucking incredible.
Yeah, it really is.
And honestly, once you start drawing like real world comparisons or doing copy and paste to real world situations, it's fucking incredible.
It was like imagining that Tom Brady and Peyton Manning had a relationship this whole time.
It was obviously the clear cut and dry one is Sidney Crosby and Alex of Etchkin.
but once you just start like branching out into the world and seeing like wow could you imagine
if that happened like what would happen would it be this would it be that would people cheer
would they be confused what would happen it's the whole situation is wildly wildly
attractive for so many different reasons of course it's just two hot dudes getting after it
which who doesn't want to watch that but once you start drawing lines into like the n hl which
obviously we call it the mhl in this show that's right m lh it's a ms
MLH, for whatever reason, that bugged the shit out of me.
I don't know why.
I was like, we could have done better than the MLH major league hockey.
And that's the funny thing that you're going to see, too.
Like, this was such a low budget show, started in Canada with Crave.
And then HBO picked it up.
And that's when it absolutely took off.
They're already on for a second season.
It's based on a book.
That second season is going to have the most outlandish budget based on what we're seeing
and the reception from the audience.
It's going to be so funny to watch.
And I think they did a great job, by the way.
Like the cinematography, the show, like the writing was incredible.
The way that they used music and all of these scenes, it was absolutely incredible.
It was such a great show to just, like I speed run.
A speed run?
Speed run.
Yeah, whatever.
Spent through.
I got through this show in one day.
And I've watched, you know, a couple different episodes, a couple different times.
It is just such a great show to watch.
It's such a fun show to watch.
And honestly, this might be downfall, but it gives people who are in situationships for a very long time a little glimmer of hope.
That's the false confidence that you get from this show.
It will work out.
He does love you.
He's not just a booty call.
No.
But I agree with everything you said.
I mean, the parallels you can draw from this show to real life is such a fascinating.
part of it, right? Because the first thing I thought is, I wonder how the hockey community as a
whole has received this show. And when you, when you branch out from that, it's like, why would
you have an issue with this show, right? Like, this is about a beautiful love story and about the
struggle that these two young men go through and figuring out their own identity and the
stigmas that come to them because they're gay or bisexual in Ilya's case. So I think it's
such an important show right now. And I think that that's probably why I was so drawn to it.
I just think they did such a good job of relaying the humanity of it. Right. Like you really care
about these guys. You really care about their well-being and what they're going through. And for two
guys like us, two straight guys watching this, it's like it gives you a whole facet that maybe you
haven't thought as far into before, right? Like obviously, we're both extremely supportive of the
LGBTQIA community. That's never in question. But to see it at this level, the depth, the emotion,
the relationship, the push and pull of figuring yourself out, figuring out what this relationship is.
How do you fit into the professional sports world, the world at large? There's so many dynamics at
here that I personally have never thought as far into. And I'll just be honest with that.
And seeing it through this lens, one, I already had respect for people that have to come out,
but like I have so much more respect for that shit now watching this and watching the struggles that these guys go through.
Obviously when we get to Kip and Scott, who I want to see a whole season about those two, it's just it moved me.
The whole show really moved me in a way that, you know, I was expecting it to be emotional, but not to the level that it hit.
Yeah.
And I do think that the way that the story progresses, it actually had me getting mad by, I think episode four, I was getting mad at Shane and Aaliyah's relationship.
I was getting mad at their situation.
I'm like, this is fucking toxic.
I hate this.
Let's go back to Scott and Kip.
At least that was beautiful.
So it's so funny the way that I viewed this, because the way that I view shows, especially
scripted shows, you can kind of guess what's going to happen.
Like there's so many different formats and so many different people follow.
I didn't find myself doing that with this show.
I was just so invested in the relationship.
I was so invested in the storyline, all the funny things that happen along the way, the little
things here and there where clearly people don't know what's going on, but they make
so many comments.
So there's so many teammates.
I think it was in episode two at some point where one of Shane's teammates walk over.
They're like, hey, where's your boy, Roseneoff?
It's like, what do you mean, my boy.
Or that was what Scott said to him at the awards in the first episode.
But I think the second episode, one of his teammates is like, hey, we're going to fuck him
tonight.
We're like, no, but what?
No, no, no.
The hell?
What the hell are we talking about here?
Like, it's just so great, the little things that all kind of become interconnected.
And like you said, by the time that you get to episode five, there's so many different things
especially, you know, with Shane coming out and him not ever doing that before or even telling
anybody that before.
And thank God Rose was there, who I've got a ton of respect for and we'll get to all that
full breakdown as we get through this when we'll record that tomorrow.
There's just so many different nuances that you don't think about.
And there's so many different things, especially where they are, they're professional hockey
players in a sport that that's probably frowned upon.
And, you know, it would be shock and all.
And especially with Elia being from Russia, a lot of shock and all there.
He wouldn't be allowed to come back to the country, given who he is and what.
what he's going through and all of those things.
So there's so many different things that you can key in on and be like,
that's fucking crazy.
I didn't even think about that.
Yeah, exactly.
And, you know,
the tension starts when they're a draft day.
Obviously,
they met each other before that.
It was like the junior nationals or whatever.
But I love that that's where we start too.
Like,
we don't even have any background on these two guys.
It's just it's Shane walking up to Ilius smoking a sick in the fucking back alley.
Like,
hey,
I know who you are.
I'm really excited to play against you.
Yeah.
All right.
Cool.
Who are you?
What's going on here?
And that's just a great way to start this.
whole thing off.
Yeah.
And you can feel like I credit to these two actors, one of whom is from Odessa, Texas.
Ilya is from Odessa, which is where my family's from.
I cannot begin to imagine what his childhood and early life was like living in Odessa, Texas.
One of my friends in Odessa was gay.
And I know exactly the hard times that he had living in a small Texas town being a homosexual.
It was tough.
Like we had a legit, a full conversation about this.
There was one gay bar in a Midland and Odessa.
And it was on the outskirts of town.
It was legit like a scene from a movie.
Like you go out on the outskirts to be yourself.
We all went one night.
And I sat there and I talked to him for like two hours about his experience in a small
Texas town and being gay.
And that was eye opening for me.
So to hear that I don't know his real name right now, which is frustrating.
But thank you, is from Odessa.
adds a whole different wrinkle for me because I'm like, wow, because he's gay in real life.
I was like, this, this whole thing must have been so powerful for him and for Shane.
What's his name?
Hudson Williams.
Thank you.
You go.
I just, I respect the shit out of them.
And then watching this show, you know, the draft day, like the tension is so palpable when they meet outside.
Like, the chemistry between these guys.
like I want them to get married in real life.
Like I want them together always.
And I'm really good time.
They're going to be all around.
I think the Emmys are next weekends.
They're going to be the Emmys, I'm sure, as well.
So they're having a fucking great time.
But I think, not to take away from the whole Odessa story,
but the thing that really stood out to me,
I saw a story about Connor story.
He didn't know he was getting this job.
Have you seen his fucking bod?
I mean, look at that ass, too.
Look at the whole bod.
The guy just stays ready.
He didn't know he was even going to get this.
He just heard it.
Maybe two days later he had to go up to Canada and go film this.
Like it's just incredible the way he was able to operate that.
But yeah, I think one thing, and this is why it's going to be different with straight guys breaking this down because we're going to talk more about the hockey than any other people, any of the other people were talking about.
Obviously a beautiful romance.
Yeah, for sure.
But the way they, the way that they were able to just show this rivalry.
how it started, not just their relationship, not just the sexual tension,
but to actually do this in a great way to show that they are just slated to be against each other.
Who's going to win rookie of the year?
Who's going to get the first cup?
Who's going to win the first MVP between these two?
Who's going first overall?
Like in this first episode, we see that Elia goes first overall.
That's a feather of the cap right away.
He's already got one over on Shane.
So the way that they actually rolled out the rivalry, I thought was great.
Because you actually felt that the entire time.
You feel all of the things that they're saying when you get to,
when you get over to Shane's,
I keep wanting to call him, Hudson.
But when you get over to Shane's family,
his parents and the way they're talking about,
Ilya, it's like, holy shit,
there really is like some hatred,
deep-rooted hatred in here.
And you guys have no clue what's going on.
The way they build this throughout the whole first episode,
between that, the night at the draft,
the night towards the end,
where they're going to the rookie of the year conversation,
which is the end of the episode,
the commercial all the way through,
the way that they play each other
and all of the things that go along with it.
It's so well done.
From the darkest corners of our imagination,
comes a game show that's more ridiculous than terrifying.

dark. Yeah, and I think one of the biggest things they do a good job of is highlighting the tension,
whether it be sexual or just tension because of outside influence. You know,
mom is hounding Shane constantly about Rolex, about Wimbledon, about all this shit. On the flip side,
you've got Ilya dealing with his father, who is very tough on him. He's also going through
dementia at the moment. And his brother Alex, he's a big piece of shit that just keeps hounding him for
money. And it's not doing his job back at home. So,
you see these outside pressures weighing on these young men. Meanwhile, they are one and two in the
draft. There's a lot of pressure put on them for their respective cities. Boston hasn't won
in a while. Montreal hasn't won in a while. They're getting these two hot young stars to come in
and change the franchise. So there's all this added pressure on top of them. Meanwhile,
you've got Shane trying to figure out who he is. Ilya's a little bit more sure of himself,
but not not entirely like he's more comfortable being able to take a step towards shame right to
start this romantic relationship because he's done stuff before but at the same time like he really
doesn't know who he is inside and what this is what this feeling is because he thinks this is sexual
tension right they get to that shower scene and they're both standing there and ilya's kind of
eyeing up Shane you can feel the tension Shane's trying to look away well i mean it's on the heels of
the their gym scene where they're both just like pushing each other.
It's like,
dude, yeah, that kind of makes sense a little bit.
The bike, this is one of my favorite parts of this show is how they sexualize scenes.
And for multiple reasons, right?
One, because if you watch a quote unquote, right, straight film, quote unquote,
they do this shit all the time.
You know, the zoom in on the girl's ass getting out of the water or the sexual tension
of a guy brushing up against the girl, shit like that.
So they do a good job of putting that in here.
it's just like the bike you know they're going back and forth and it's like i mean you guys are
fucking the bike right because you think it's no they're absolutely yeah they're absolutely doing that
and then going right into the shower scene i thought he was just cranking it out right there
i thought he was literally just sitting there staring his chain i think he was just touching himself
like very sexually and very uh i thought he i thought he was catching a beat i thought he was too
but i think he was just you know washing himself but in a very sexy way which is you know who's not
going to catch an eye for that one. Shane, like you said, doesn't know what he's necessarily feeling.
Like maybe he thought it before, but he's not really sure, whereas Elya has already gone through
this. We already heard the story of him and Sasha back in Russia. It was his coach's son. He already
kind of had that whole adventure where he kind of got to figure himself out. But he was also
hooking up with Svetlana, who is one of his best friends, who he's loved his whole life. So he's,
he's going back and forth between worlds where Shane doesn't really have a whole lot to go off of.
He's just kind of viving and figuring this whole thing out.
And he's obviously scared about this.
So when they go from the shower scene,
they'll back to the locker room,
he's looking at it earlier.
He's like,
we're not fucking talking about that ever again.
I don't want to hear about that.
I don't want to see it.
We're never doing that again.
I didn't like it.
Maybe I did like it.
I don't know.
I'm very,
very confused right now,
but don't you fucking look at me like that.
We have to play against each other.
Yeah,
you knock it off.
But then he goes and says,
not here.
Right?
And that's when you get back to the lockers.
And he's like,
yeah, we don't have to talk about that again, right?
We don't have to talk about that.
He's like, why?
What's your room number?
He tells him.
And like, they do such a good job of building the tension and anxiety, right?
Because he goes in the room, knocks on the door.
Ilya is obviously much more dominant in this situation.
So he knows what he wants.
So he makes the first move.
And then you watch this scene unfold where it's Shane's first time with a man.
And Ilya obviously has been with a man before.
He's going into this thinking, oh, you know, this dude's hot, going to get off real quick.
It'll be fun, whatever.
Little did he know that this was the first step into a budding romance that would have these two connected forever.
Now, would this whole thing be as as close-knit if they weren't number one and two?
You know, like if they didn't have as much pressure from the hockey world from their parents and everybody pushing them against,
each other constantly. You got the East versus West thing. You got Montreal versus Boston.
You got Russia versus the U.S. All of these things come into play. Does that push them closer
to each other? Or not that, obviously pushes them closer to each other. Does this happen without
the outside influence? I think the outside influence is more of a byproduct of what they already
are. Like at the end of the day, they're both highly competitive individuals who see each other
as their rival. They see each other as this, that, whatever, and they're constantly being, you know,
touted as number one and number two or number two and number one, depending on where they are. So they're
jockeying for position in more ways than one. And let me know. Yeah. I actually really thought as we
were working through all of their sexual encounters, because we start to speed run a little bit. But
at the All-Star game, when they first had that, I'm like, okay, yeah, you know, Shane's just
trying to figure it out. Aaliyah is showing them the ropes. That makes sense. I really thought
they were going to flip positions. I thought they were both going to be first. I thought they were
going to go top bottom, top bottom, top bottom, because that's what we're seeing on the ice. But we didn't.
It was just shame being a bottom the whole time. I was confused. I thought he was going to try to take back
power. We were going to get a scene like that. We never got it. And obviously, that's not how it plays out in the
real world. So that's fine. But I really thought they were going to switch back and forth, much like their
own heated rivalry on the ice. We got a heated rivalry over here too. But no, that's not how it plays out.
And at the Allstar game, and I was already thinking this. And I was unimpeded.
I didn't have any spoilers or anything,
but the way that Scott Hunter was moving.
I was very interested in that guy.
I was very interested in Scott.
He was giving us the eyes.
Like, hey.
The glances, right?
The glances.
I'm looking over.
I'm watching the way that you're looking at Ealia.
And it's funny, too, the way that they work this in,
how the NHL All-Star game used to be,
is actually how it is now,
where it's the U.S. versus the world.
But it used to be East West.
We flip it this way in this show,
which makes no sense, but it's still very funny,
where they're playing against each,
other and there's a lot of tension there who's going to get the speed run who's the best who's the best
rookie in the league who's going to show off and actually have the best score or the best time as we're
doing the wrist shot challenge so it's very funny the way it plays out and no one knows what's going on
i've got scott hunter right next door how am i supposed to get off you got me standing out here in the
fucking hallway like a moron i don't know what to do exactly and i think that adds to all of it right
because the big struggle they're both facing right ilia is this you know brooding
Russian phenom.
He's very tough, tough exterior.
He's been through a lot of shit, doesn't trust a lot of people on the flip side.
Shane, he doesn't know his identity.
And that's not speaking on whether or not he's gay.
That's speaking on who he is as a person because he's also an Asian in hockey,
which could not have been easy, especially growing up.
And they mentioned that a few times on this show.
But he's always been in this weird bubble of,
this is who people tell me I am.
I don't feel like this person.
Who the fuck am I?
So you're watching them.
both try to navigate these these personal hurdles right ilia can he get more vulnerable can he be more
open because clearly and that's what he does such a good job of from an acting standpoint is
really relaying that to the audience is like wow this dude is is going through a lot of shit but he doesn't
say a whole lot but just like from his face his demeanor you really get that and on Shane on the
flip side you can see like it's the golden boy right like everything is perfect he gets all these ads
he gets all this and everyone thinks so highly of him and he's so afraid to rock the boat and not be
that image that is portrayed of him that he's not being authentic to himself. So it's very,
very interesting that you have this, this story of finding out who they are, what their sexuality is,
but it is so intertwined with just who they are as a person. That's not saying at all, like,
oh, like being gay is who this person is. It's just, it's in line. These these parallel tracks
that we're following as they try to figure out who they are.
But that's the great thing.
They can't fully figure out who they are without each other,
whether that be on the ice,
whether that be together in a hotel room,
whether that be texting back and forth.
That's my favorite part.
The texting is so cute.
Like the whole time,
I'm like,
this is like so sweet.
But they also work in,
and this gets us towards episode two a little bit
as we start to deepen that relationship,
I'm getting frustrated at Ilya
because I can tell Shane's catching feelings, right?
I'm like, hey,
Jane already has feelings.
To talk once, right?
Like you guys get in the room
and you just want to pull his pants down.
It was that kiss at the end of episode one
after Shane won the rookie of the year
and he just wanted Ilya to be happy for him.
Now, we do have pseudonyms.
We've got Jane and Lily,
which didn't really stress a whole lot of brain muscles for that one.
And at the end of episode one, when he wins rookie of the year, he's looking for Ilya,
first person he's looking for, you know that, he wants him to be proud of him, he wants them
to be happy.
On the flip side, Ealia's upset because he's going to face scrutiny when he gets back to Russia.
His dad's going to be pissed off that he didn't win rookie of the year.
His brother's not going to be expecting any more money so he can go do blow and not help out
his family.
He's going to be all upset.
So he's up on the roof, just trying to brood and just try to figure out his feelings and what
he's going to have to expect, smoking a cigarette, which that's one of my favorite
themes is the way that healy is just ripping heaters he's like hey hey it's not good for you you
shouldn't be smoking shut up i'm gonna smoke a cigarette i'm gonna be all right but he never really like
pushes them off he's just like ah it's just one it's just one cigarette i'll be all right this is the
only one i've smoked today so he's already like answering as if he is a boyfriend he's already
answering like all right all right i'll stop when they yeah whatever it's not a big deal but at the end of
episode one when they share that kiss after kind of going off where shane is trying to understand
the gravity of the situation. He's trying to figure everything out.
Like, are we trying to understand Ilius?
Yeah, exactly. He's like,
I've kind of got a grip on this.
Like, I feel something for you that I haven't felt before.
Do you not feel this?
And Ely is not showing any signs. And I agree with you.
I'm getting frustrated with Ealia.
Talk to him. Be a little cute.
You know?
Yeah.
There's text messages are cute.
Do that in person.
I don't want to see you guys.
And it's funny, too, because it's like,
it's not an overbearing amount of sex,
but it annoyed me in the way of,
can you guys talk?
Can you guys deep in your relationship?
And like, yeah, the gay sex is fine.
Like go ahead and do what as much as you want.
Show as much as you want.
But can we have a little interim here where we're doing this a little bit differently?
We're showing a little bit of a relationship here.
We're talking about things.
No, we're not going to do that.
All right.
Get me to Scott and Kip because at least they're sharing more of their lives together than you two are.
You guys need to figure it out and then I'll stop back in.
But at the end, after that kiss, it's kind of all puts things together.
Like, all right, we're kissing.
We're not just having this sexual relationship.
We're kissing.
We're showing a little bit more emotion.
This is how it's going to build.
And as we get in episode two,
as they're texting back and forth,
everything's there except for a good luck tonight,
which you're not going to get.
You're not going to get a good luck tonight.
I want you to fucking lose.
I don't want you to score goals because I'm chasing 40.
You're chasing 40.
I'm actually chasing 50.
And that's what you're going to see this entire time, right?
And I think that lends to that they're always missing each other on some level,
whether it be timing, whether it be location,
whether it be where they're at currently in their feelings.
They're always just kind of two ships passing in the night, right?
And that's what gets so frustrating.
And I'm with you.
Like, show as much sex as you want.
I don't care.
It doesn't matter to me at all.
But I was convinced that it was taking, it's funny too, because while I'm watching it,
I'm like, I feel like it's taking away from the story.
Maybe they're getting lazy with their writing and they're just kind of going for as many
sex scenes as possible.
But actually what that was doing was really hammering home where they are.
So it took me until watching the whole.
season to understand that.
But at first I'm like, all right, like, why are we doing this?
Like, even if it was like a heterosexual show and they're just constantly doing, I'd be
like, can we get back into the writing?
But it actually works in this because it's really putting on display like what's actually
happening here.
Correct.
And do you know how many straight sex scenes I fast forwarded through and if I'm watching
movie at home?
I'm like, dude, I don't, I don't care.
I want to get back to the storyline.
You get one to establish the relationship and then two, maybe if it's cool.
but you get to like three or four
and you're like all right like a game of Thrones
like sometimes they'll do that it's like all right enough
yeah we get it we get it but
as you said when you watch the show in its entirety
you understand what that is
it's showing you the progression of this relationship
and the pitfalls of Shane along the way
is highlighting that because he wants more
and we get that from him we get that from his character
you can tell he's kind of longing
He is the lost puppy dog in the situation chasing after Rosenoff.
Vice versa.
Rosenoff is the tough dude that is trying not to acknowledge the fact that he's falling for this guy.
So you have this back and forth of, again, these two missing each other.
And that is actually highlighted in the sex scenes.
That's why they're so intense in the beginning.
That's why they start to soften up as you go.
Then you get to episode 4, 5, 6.
No, sorry for spoilers, but hopefully you've watched this already.
We're having tender moments.
We're having the sex, the pace is slower.
There's more kissing.
They're cuddling.
They're talking afterwards.
It's everything that you want, right, in the first two episodes for shame.
We're all sitting there going fucking hug him, kiss him.
Like, stop just pulling his pants down.
Like have some intimacy, damn it.
But that's what they're doing because they're making you feel like shame.
They're putting you in his position of like, oh, man, I want more from you.
I want more from you.
But if this is all I'm going to get, I will take what I can get for the moment.
as we try to figure this whole thing out.
It's fucking remarkable.
Like when you tie it all together at the end, it's just like, wow, what a story that they've
told.
And they introduced Svetlana and you add another wrinkle to this whole thing.
And Svetlana obviously knows about Sasha and she's got more info on Ilya.
So that allows us as an audience to recognize like, okay, Rosenoff does have a different side
to him.
It's just he's so guarded from his father, from growing up where he did, from the hockey.
that he doesn't allow himself to show that until we get Svetlana.
Then we see Svetlana and we're like, oh, wait a minute.
Rosie is a little bit more Rosie.
He's not always like this.
It's just when he gets comfortable with somebody.
And that raises the question,
will Shane be able to fill those shoes for Svetlana emotionally on top of the sex stuff?
And that's what we have to figure out.
But it starts getting a little bit more emotional as we get into episode two,
looking at the way that they meet up.
I mean, it starts off with them texting back and forth,
and it's three years into this.
We're in a very long situation ship,
which I didn't love that, actually.
You didn't love that they skipped?
No, I would have like to slow it down a little bit because I'm thinking ahead to season
two, three, four, for jumping years at a time.
These fuckers are going to be 60 in season three.
I think, honestly, I'd guess I would imagine now.
I mean, everybody's money hungry.
In my, in my brain, maybe it slows down.
in season two and that's probably i would imagine
HBO's going to slow it down bring
scott and kit back into the fold and kind of have them
showing them the ropes as we go through
maybe something along those lines but
i don't really know in a perfect world i think this is two seasons
i think you cover everything in two seasons and it's just a really feel good
story as we get into season two and they have to deal with trials and tribulations
as we go but starting off hot and heavy and then kind of mixing it a little bit of
emotional scenes because Shane invites
Ilya over to his house.
This is different.
We're not in the hotel room anymore.
Come on over.
Now, you're going to have to meet me in the back alley
and you're going to think that you might be getting murdered.
But let's just be careful here.
Maybe in the back alley will come in and they have a bunch of cute scenes and you think
that they're building something here.
And that's the roller coaster of this relationship is you think that they're building
and we're finally getting into it.
You guys are having some fun.
You're racing up the steps.
You're talking more about life or at least Shane is.
Elyia is not really talking about life.
He just kind of alludes to the.
the, you know, the Winter Olympics next year and, you know, going back to Russia and how that's
going to feel and all the pressures that come along with that. Are you going to share that
with Shane? No. We know there's a lot of pressure there, but you're just going to act like you always do.
Not a big deal. You know, we go back to Russia. It's going to be beautiful. It's going to be great.
As we know from the Sochi Olympics, it was not beautiful. It was not great. But for everybody else
there, it's like, okay, yeah, this is a story that we wanted. This is what I've dreamt about playing for
my country in the Olympics. It's going to be such a great time. For Elia, it means so.
much more than that.
And I love that this is just an opportunity to bring everybody back in because we get
Team USA there, Team Canada there.
We've got Shane sitting down with Scott and I can't remember the other guy's name
from Scott's team, the Admirals.
God, that's going to bother me.
Yeah, I forget his name too.
They're openly talking about it because Shane says that he has a friend on the figure
skating team and immediately the other guy on the Admiral's is like, hey, that's pretty
brave of him to come over here, assuming that he's gay on the figure skating team.
and Shane's just completely plain face.
Like I'd ever really thought about that.
I wasn't looking at Shane.
I was looking at Scott.
Damn right.
Scott was throwing fucking eyes everywhere.
That guy was trying to catch a vibe on everyone.
Like, hey, you guys, you guys feeling what I'm feeling?
I'm feeling something here.
I know you're feeling it.
Scott's known.
When do you think he picked up on Shane?
The All-Star game.
Do you, when he made that comment about Rosenoff?
He was like, oh, okay.
Yeah.
I think he had a vibe there.
But I think that that adds more to it.
And we'll obviously get to episode three in our next episode.
But I do think that that's intentional.
The Scott's story on top of the Shane story, I think is showing, I would imagine that Scott saw himself in Shane.
And I would imagine that that is what led to what we obviously see in episode five.
I think that was not just for him.
I mean, obviously not.
It was for the entire sporting world as a whole.
But I think that that was his way of showing a young Shane Holland.
They're like, hey, man, I'll do this so that you can do it sooner.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
Yeah, I would be surprised if we get to season two.
And Scott wasn't like, yeah, come on, guys.
Maybe Elia I didn't know about, but you I definitely knew about.
But, yeah, yeah, all the fucking pressures that have to go into representing the home team in the Olympics and then getting bounced.
Do they get bounced by Latvia or something embarrassing?
Yeah, Russia got bounced by Latvia.
Dad was pissed.
Dad was pissed.
The whole fucking country's pissed.
We still have a gala, but this is where we get to know, Ilya, a little bit more.
Here's your friends.
Svetlana and Sasha are hanging out here.
What's going on?
What's going through your brain?
When are you going to win a fucking Stanley Cup?
Because I bet my dad, the prime minister of Russia, I bet him four years into your career.
You'd already have a cup.
So, you know, get the working on that.
And I think you're going to win it a year early.
Uh-huh.
Oh, please, not that music.
That music gives me nightmares from my childhood.
Could we get something a little bit lighter?
Some lighter music here.

The Regency era.
You might know it as the time when Bridgeton takes place,
or it's the time when Jane Austen wrote her books.
The Regency era was also an explosive time of social change, sex scandals,
and maybe the worst king in British history.

Yep.
But all I was, oh, go ahead.
Go ahead.
No, I was just going to say she was right.
All I was chanting during this seat was, no, because I thought he was going to hook up with Sasha.
And I was like, come on, don't do shame like that.
But that's important, right?
Because that's deeper than just, oh, here's an old hookup.
Here's a chance for you guys to have some fun.
In this moment, things between Rosalie.
Rosenoff and Hollander are more tense because of the way that the hockey turned out.
Rosanoff lost.
So now he's distant, right?
Because he's dealing with his dad and all the pressure from Russia.
So that lashes out onto Shane, who tries to go and comfort him up in the rafters.
I love that he fucking spotted him up in the raptors.
I know.
Just like floating there.
Hey, guys, do you want to, after this brunch, this beautiful brunch that we're having,
you mind if I, like, we can go to the figure skating?
we can figure this whole thing out.
Oh, look way up there in the rafters.
Oh, yeah, that's I'll be right there.
He's duck in my fucking calls and text messages.
That's the,
I think that's one of the funnier things that happens throughout this,
the whole season pretty much.
Anytime something happens, Shane is just immediately texting Ilya.
He's like, hey, everything all right?
Everything good?
Everything good?
No, not answering me?
Okay.
I'm going to find you in the fucking rafters, buddy.
I know you're floating around there.
There you are, you son of a bitch.
I'm coming to get you.
And he completely shuns him, right?
And this actually leads to a lot more attention.
I think Rosenoff leaves him on red for an extended period of time.
Shane is spiraling.
He doesn't know what the fuck is going on.
All he knows is he feels something.
He's not sure what it is.
I would imagine he has a better grasp of it, but it's more afraid of it.
He's more afraid because he knows what it can actually be.
Shane is questioning what it is at all.
But again, it adds to the.
this character development of these two fascinating young men trying to navigate this whole thing.
And at the end of this episode, you kind of look back on what we've seen.
And it's like, okay, so episode one was discovery, call it that, right?
We find each other.
Episode two is taking it from Rosenoff trying to keep it to sex.
He just tried to keep it to a hookup.
Shane is obviously trying to go further than that, but not because I think he wants something more.
I think he's just trying to figure out what the fuck is.
is and he's getting a stone wall.
So at the end of this episode, we're kind of just left in limbo like, okay, we know there's
something real.
We know that Rosenoff is refusing to acknowledge what's going on.
We know that Shane is desperately asking for help from him to try to figure out what's
going on and they're trying to meet somewhere in the middle and they just keep missing
each other once again, two ships passing in the night.
But that's when this goes completely from a rivalry to something so much more than that.
It's not a rivalry.
I would call it a...
Fuck, what is it?
I don't even know what the word for it is.
A heated rivalry, perhaps.
It is a heated rivalry.
And I feel like for all of the shortcomings, and again, this is, you know, in hindsight
after watching the whole series, it's tough to look at Elia because we want so much more
from him.
We want him to, like, actually comfort Shane in all of those moments.
And yet, what he does is he does things with his actions, but outside of dealing
with Shane. He's met with this confrontation with Sasha, who he used to hook up with,
who he used to have a lot of fun with. And Sasha even says, you won't have sex with me.
You don't do cocaine. You're not fun anymore. In reality, that's not him maturing. That's him
thinking about Shane. He's just got him on the mind. Yes. And that gives me hope, right, as we go
into the next episode. But that was my big question mark. I was like, damn, I just, I, it's so good
because all you want, you're like screaming at the TV.
Like Rosie, give this man more.
He's pouring his heart out to you.
He's scared.
He doesn't know what to do.
Talk to him.
And he won't because that's not who he is right now.
He doesn't want to break that wall down.
And when you meet his family and when he had that,
I believe that's episode five as well when we're in Russia after his dad passes away,
that really paints the picture.
Then you really understand all these pressures,
his upbringing,
the fucking speech in Russian,
my God, I was in tears.
Oh, yeah.
Well, wait until we get, I can jump at the gun here.
I know.
I'm sorry.
It's just so good.
But yeah, anyway, do we have questions for this?
Are we just kind of running through?
Nope.
Yeah, we don't know when we're releasing this.
So we'll be running through this bad boy.
But stay tuned because episodes three and four will be available right away.
Well, that's all I got.
You got anything else?
Nope.
Nope.
