Starting point is 00:00:00 With Amex Platinum, $400 in annual credits for travel and dining means you not only satisfy your travel bug, but your taste buds too. That's the powerful backing of Amex. Conditions apply. I was guilty of multiple skin care crimes. Two counts of sleeping and makeup. One count of using disposable wipes. I knew my routine had to change.
Starting point is 00:00:26 So I switched to Garnier-Missler water. It gently cleanses, perfectly removes makeup. and provides 24-hour hydration. Clear away the evidence with the number one Missler Water worldwide by Garnier. I'll be honest, I'm a little sad to recap episode five and six because then this is over. What if we just never call it quits? We just keep this rolling. Let's just bring in some other people, get some perspectives.
Starting point is 00:00:51 We'll just redo the entire season and act like we've never done this before. I don't, there's something there. We could do like a town hall. Yeah. Have a guest? It would be the best town hall I've been part of. Let's do that. Yeah, we'll do that.
Starting point is 00:01:04 But this is episode five and six. As there's a drive in a deep left field by Castellanos. Oh man, it's 8 o'clock. And so that'll make it a... I don't need the spotlight. I shine just fine. Hi, I'm karma. And yes, I am a bitch.
Starting point is 00:01:23 Brov Bros. Good evening, everybody. Welcome back to another episode of Brav Bros. Your favorite show from the Bros for everybody, for whoever wants to listen. I am your co-host, Steele Russell, joined as always by the one and only slap shot Magoutes. What's up, dude?
Starting point is 00:01:37 Only took you a couple episodes to get there. I don't even remember what you called me in the first two episodes. I just burped. I don't know. I really do not remember what you called me for the first two episodes, but, God.
Starting point is 00:01:53 Shooter McGoldender or something. Yeah, that's what it was. Shoot on McGoldender. That's what it was. Yeah, shots on goal. That's what we ended up with. but this is much, much better. Only took us a little while to get there,
Starting point is 00:02:04 but we're here. And boy, this, especially episode five, episode five is one of my favorite episodes of television. Like, ever made, yeah. Yeah. I said last week it was like, on our last episode, if you've watched The Last of Us,
Starting point is 00:02:18 there is a, you said it's a bottle episode is when there's a separate storyline in the middle of the season. And episode three did that with Nick Offerman, and it was actually another gay romance. and it was one of the most beautiful episodes of TV I've ever seen. This is right there with that.
Starting point is 00:02:35 Yeah. It's actually above that, which is pretty impressive. This is like the main storyline. I was saying that Scott and Kipp was the bottle episode, but yeah. I was talking about the bottle from the last of us. Oh, you were just saying, yeah, that was a great episode of television. Last of us was the bottle episode. Correct.
Starting point is 00:02:46 Great episode of TV. Yes. This is also a great episode of TV. Yes. Yes. Yeah, I can agree with that. I can understand that. Just the way that they work through these things because we just stop at the middle of that
Starting point is 00:02:59 club and we've got Shane and Rose going back. We've got Ilya back at the shower by himself. Shane's thinking about Ilya. Ilya's thinking about Shane, but Shane's having sex with Rose. We find out almost immediately things did go so well. Not in the sack.
Starting point is 00:03:14 No, which is, it's okay. Yeah. All right? It happens to everybody. It's not a big deal. But in this instance, we know why. It's because he's in love with somebody else. Yep, he's in love with Ilya. He's thinking about Ilya the whole time. Things don't go super well according to Rose the next morning.
Starting point is 00:03:31 We've got Elya in the airport talking to his teammates. Hey, you get a sleep last night? No, you didn't, you fucking animal. Saw you with that chick on the dance floor. God, you're great. Ah, man, we should go hang out sometime. He's probably gay too. Maybe he is.
Starting point is 00:03:45 Statistically speaking. Statistically speaking, maybe he is. But flashback over to Rose and Shane, obviously things didn't go well. I was worried when Rose was getting up, putting her clothes on a little distant. We'll get dinner a little bit later this week. Like,
Starting point is 00:03:58 God, you're not going to break up with them and not talk about anything, right? You're just going to... I didn't know what to think. I got good vibes from her from the jump, so I assumed she'd be cool. But, you know, and then I was like, obviously asking the question, does she know what's going on? Is she on to Shane? Is she hearing some things out? I mean, obviously that's where we get to.
Starting point is 00:04:16 But yeah, and I think, like, this Rose storyline has been so crucial. And I'll talk about it a little bit more later. But I think this seems important. I think what this does is set up episode five. this is the identity episode, I would call. Not for Ilya. Ilya knows somewhat who he is. His big battle is trying to fight these emotions and giving in.
Starting point is 00:04:40 And Russia. Yeah. His big issue is Russia. But his fucking family. He's got a lot. He's got a lot to do. He's got his own fight. And it has nothing to do with what Shane's doing.
Starting point is 00:04:49 But I think what we get from Shane and Rose, at least at the beginning here, is like, Shane is trying to figure out who he is. Like you said, it's an identity episode. He's trying to figure out who he is. He has sex with Rose. He's got this relationship going on. Clearly, it's still not clicking. It's still not working.
Starting point is 00:05:04 So in my mind, he's looking at Elia. The closest thing that he has to trying to find his own identity is watching Elia. And he's like, well, Ely is able to do both. He's able to balance both. He's out with girls. He's still able to hook up with me. It still feels, you know, obviously at the end, it got a little bit too emotional. He didn't know when I handled that.
Starting point is 00:05:21 But he's still looking at that almost like a role model. Like, okay, maybe I can do both. If Ealia is able to do both. and he can't. So it's almost devastating immediately like, fuck, okay, I'm not like Ilya. I'm completely different from Elia. So I think I'm gay. And now he's trying to struggle with just that.
Starting point is 00:05:38 And he's dealing with all of that with Rose walking away, something that he really enjoyed, but he wasn't able to completely piece everything together. So he's once again completely alone. Yeah. And I think a big part, as we said, this is him trying to figure out finally who the fuck is Shane Hollander. And I think what you see in this with Rose is, it takes me to, we're going to jump ahead a little bit, but that last scene, not last, but when they're at the cottage and his mom is talking to him, and he says, I really tried.
Starting point is 00:06:07 So I think that there's like three parts to this or more. I think in so many ways it got so heavy with Ilya at the end when he was in Boston. So now he's trying to figure out, well, maybe I'm not gay. Maybe if I go, maybe it's just an Ilya thing, but I actually like women. and if I can get him out of my head and find the right woman, maybe I'm straight. And I think that this was pivotal for him. I think he had to learn like, okay, I'm not into women at all. Like, I think I'm gay.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Yeah, yeah. And the scene that follows right after this with Rose and Shane, it was so beautiful. The writing in this was absolutely perfect because we didn't know what the fuck is going to happen. I'm still going into this like, oh, shit. I assume they're going to have a pretty deep conversation. Otherwise, it wouldn't really be a scene. It would just be kind of Rose kind of going her separate way. but instead we have a really, really, really pivotal scene here where I didn't really think about it.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Like, Shane hadn't come out. Shane hadn't had a discussion like this. The way that Rose starts it off, it's like, what the fuck you're doing, lady? I know. And she didn't know what the hell she was doing. And that's why I said the writing was so good, because they encapsulated so well how, like, tender of a moment this is, how careful she has to be. And she's been thinking about this. And obviously she knows he's gay.
Starting point is 00:07:20 Like, that's why he's not into me. That's why this isn't working. everything else is there except for the sexuality so clearly there's something going on here and I've had experiences with this in the past so going into it maybe she would be a little bit better. You know, you know Miles?
Starting point is 00:07:36 Miles, so Miles is gay, right? You know Miles is gay, right? And I genuinely believe Shane does not know Miles is gay. He's so in his own head he's trying to figure everything out he is not aware of things around him necessarily. And we even called it out last week or in the episodes prior that the three of them were dancing and Shane still didn't realize
Starting point is 00:07:54 Miles is like right in his ear. Like he's kissing his ear pretty much. Shane has no fucking clue what's going on because he's so focused on just trying to figure out himself that he doesn't know what's going on around him. So starting off the conversation like that, Miles is gay, you know? Maybe you think Miles is hot?
Starting point is 00:08:11 Like out of him on Instagram. Just reach out to him. I don't know. So square peg round hole, right? Wait, shit. I, fuck. God. God,
Starting point is 00:08:21 you're gay, right? It's like, it was so fucking funny to watch her. Like, Shane's face, like, I think he knew, he knows that this is coming.
Starting point is 00:08:30 Once she starts going into that, he's like, oh, fuck, are we going to have this discussion? I don't think I'm prepped for this. Rose is just fumbling through this whole thing. Let me restart.
Starting point is 00:08:40 You're gay, right? Okay. I'm not gay. This, not going to work. Are there a lot of gay hockey players? Is that what we're,
Starting point is 00:08:49 it's just, just so funny to watch her work through this. And Shane's just sitting there like a complete fuck moment. Yep. Like, oh my God, what's going to happen? I don't know what to happen. And thankfully, she recovers. And it ends up being an absolutely beautiful scene where, like I said,
Starting point is 00:09:04 I hadn't thought about this. Shane has not talked to anyone. He's got Elia. That's it. He's never talking. They don't talk at all. They just hook up. So there's nothing here. He's never had this discussion. So the way that he works his way through this, talking about his journey, talking about
Starting point is 00:09:19 what he thought that he might be able to do, and when he thought he might be gay, or what might come of that, how he's going to handle it. He has no clue. But he works through this conversation with Rose. Thankfully, she's an ally. She can sit there.
Starting point is 00:09:32 She even brings in the statistics. You know, 70% of the guys in theater school are gay. I've had many gay boyfriends. This is probably the best situation that I could have hoped for for having a gay boyfriend. And they definitely have a real connection. And I think that's what this scene highlighted for me.
Starting point is 00:09:47 And I think they do a really good job of using metaphors and using these moments to relay a really good message. And I think that the messaging behind this, when you compare an Ilya to a Shane, as Shane is doing subconsciously trying to navigate his own journey through his sexuality, it brings up something that I had a really close friend of mine when we were teenagers. He came out to me. He'd come out to other people before me. I wasn't the first one.
Starting point is 00:10:14 But he pulled me aside to have a conversation. And I think what they're trying to relay as far as both Ilya and shame, the way that my friend explained it to me because he came out as bisexual was I'm attracted to people. It has nothing to do with their gender. I'm just attracted to a certain type of person. It might be a man. It might be a woman. It doesn't really matter.
Starting point is 00:10:37 And I think that that's what the big thing that they're doing with episode five and six is doing a good job of showing us that. because with Ilya, ladies, man, he's got a ton of chicks. He's this hot Russian hockey player. He's got chicks all over him. On the flip side, you got Shane, who's trying to navigate this whole thing. He's afraid that he's going to lose Ilya to a woman. We see that scene in episode six where he's talking about marrying Spatlana.
Starting point is 00:11:01 And instead of Shane being like absolutely not out of the gate, he's like, well, we can find someone else to marry. Like, he's still trying to figure that whole thing out. Because now he's like, well, I have competition on both sides of the street. but what that does is show this is so hard to like walk back but what this show does such a but what this show does such a good job of doing
Starting point is 00:11:24 is showing that to us it doesn't matter Ilya's not looking for a woman he's not looking for a man he's looking for you Shane he fell in love with your beautiful soul it has nothing to do with the fact that you're a dude and I think that that is such an important message for straight guys that don't know a lot about the LGBTIQIA community. I think that that it explains this is what it is. They're in love with somebody.
Starting point is 00:11:51 It doesn't matter about their gender. And I think that by doing it in this way, by using metaphors, using analogy, showing us these scenes, showing us this journey, I think it does a great job of explaining that without explaining that. Yeah, I couldn't agree more. And the end of the scene is it's very nice, obviously. you know, Rose understands. She's able to hear him out.
Starting point is 00:12:10 He feels a sigh of relief. But what ends up happening, they leave the restaurant, they agree to be friends. But he immediately asked, like, you're not, you're not going to tell anybody, right? You're not going to blow up my spot.
Starting point is 00:12:21 Like, I can't do that. I can't do it. No, she's not. And he believes her, genuinely. She even goes on to say, like, I'm going to text you all the time. You're my best friend. We're going to keep doing this.
Starting point is 00:12:30 I'm going to be checking in all the time. And she does. And we see that in episode six, which is really nice. But it kind of, at the very least, it tells Shane, like, things are going to be okay in certain instances. Like, yeah, not everybody's going to accept it,
Starting point is 00:12:42 but the first time that you came out and you were actually comfortable to come out and obviously, you were kind of pushed against the wall to do this, but you came out and she accepted it right away, which is very, very important because it gives him a little bit of leeway here. Like, okay, it's not immediately going to be met with,
Starting point is 00:12:56 what the fuck? Yeah, what the fuck are you doing? It gives him an exhale, finally. He's able to breathe. Which is really good, too, because he doesn't have that when he's talking to the only other person that knows this, which is Elia,
Starting point is 00:13:07 who doesn't talk to him at all. So he's at least allowed to have a little bit of confidence here. Like, okay, I have a better understanding of who I am, and also I have a better understanding of how this is going to be accepted by other people on the outside. So he's allowed to move forward a little bit, but juxtaposed immediately to Ilya and Svetlata, who have a thing going on.
Starting point is 00:13:26 Svetlana's in love with him. He loves her. It's never really going to end up working out, but they have a thing going on. They're talking about the All-Star game, which is very important, because this is going to be the first time that these two are going to see each other. not only they're going to see each other, but they're on the same team.
Starting point is 00:13:39 How's that going to work? Is chemistry going to be thrown off? We just watched that game with Montreal and Boston. Neither of them had anything going on because they're so in their own heads that they don't even want to look at each other. So there's a lot going on here. Elya does not know, obviously, that Rose and Shane have called it quits. So they're worried. Oh, wow, I'm going to see Shane again.
Starting point is 00:13:56 Oh, fuck. Rose is going to be there. Rose has great outfits, as Svetlana says. So how are we going to handle all of this? Immediately, we meet at the bar. Elia with his Hawaiian shirt. Right before we get there, I just want to comment on one more thing with the Rose dinner because it really struck me.
Starting point is 00:14:12 And that was, you get these moments from Shane, right, where he's laughing finally. You actually, you see him physically just kind of, like, relax for the first time in probably a very long time. And I loved seeing that side of him. But you're immediately hit with reality when he gets to that point where he's having fun. And he's like, oh, shit, wait, are you going to tell anyone? Yeah. And I think that's really important, especially for straight dudes watching this show,
Starting point is 00:14:41 is because no matter that moment, you had that beautiful moment where you're actually allowed to be yourself, you're understanding who you are, but you're very quickly reminded, oh, no, this is just a speed bumper, a stepping stone in the right direction. But as soon as you walk out of that restaurant, boom, you've got to put your mask back on. And that has to be so fucking hard. Like, that has to be so difficult. You're navigating your life in hockey. You're navigating your personal life.
Starting point is 00:15:08 And at the same time, the guy that you love and who completes you pretty much, you can't even talk about. And you have to leave this restaurant. The internet is a flame with you and Rose, extra added pressure on the outside. So the reminder that just because you have this nice moment where you're actually allowed to breathe, you're still not free yet. Yeah. That's a daunting reality.
Starting point is 00:15:31 Yeah, especially like right on the heels of making that joke, which was very funny. I actually like being the hole rather than the pig, which is incredible. And it just breathed so much life into that whole situation where he's able to make fun of the situation. He's able to have a couple of laughs here and there and that is immediately met with that. So it's like, oh, wow, you really finally came into your own. You're having fun. You're enjoying it. You finally told someone and they accepted it and you're happy.
Starting point is 00:15:56 And then you're like, oh, fuck. Like, what's going to happen from here? Are people going to find out about this? Is she going to leak this? Blah, blah, blah. So now he's right back into it completely buttoned up. And the only thing that can unbutton you is Ely in a Hawaiian shirt. The secret to Charlotte Cardin's captivating eyes?
Starting point is 00:16:13 Panorama Mascara by L'Oreal Paris. The multi-level bristle brush catches every lash from inner to outer corner. Investing is all about the future. So what do you think is going to happen?
Starting point is 00:16:37 Bitcoin is sort of inevitable at this point. I think it would come down to precious metals. I hope we don't go cashless. I would say land is a safe investment. Technology companies. Solar energy. Robotic pollinators might be a thing. A wrestler to face a robot,
Starting point is 00:16:53 that will have to happen. So whatever you think is going to happen in the future, you can invest in it at Wealth Simple. now at WealthSimple.com. Of the Regency Era, you might know it as the time when Bridgeton takes place, or it's the time when Jane Austen wrote her books. The Regency Era was also an explosive time of social change, sex scandals, and maybe the worst king in British history. Vulgar History's new season is all about the Regency Era, the balls, the gowns, and all the scandal. Listen to Vulgar
Starting point is 00:17:27 history, Regency Era, wherever you get podcasts. Because they get right down to the All-Star game, down in Tampa, it looks like, and they're sitting down, hadn't seen each other since Boston. I was so nervous. I was so nervous going into this. He actually, I feel like Shane was relatively happy to see Ilya. It's almost like the whole Rose situation kind of falling apart and then all the acceptance that happened after that. It gave him a new perspective on what he feels rather than like what I'm feeling is wrong. What I'm feeling is this.
Starting point is 00:17:58 What I'm feeling is that. It's no, actually, what I'm feeling is right. I'm feeling a lot of things towards Ely. I've had a lot of perspective. I got through another journey where I was able to kind of find another piece of myself. And now I'm back to the man that I love. This is the man that I love. And I'm happy to see him.
Starting point is 00:18:13 And I think on top of that as well, I think that for the first time, he's starting to acknowledge that it's okay that I'm gay. Yeah. Like he's not quite there yet, but I think he's getting closer. So you see a lighter Shane when he gets down in Tampa. And I think that you take it back to this rose. story arc was not just about finding out his sexuality. We watch Shane kind of figure out who he is. Right. Because he starts to loosen up a little bit. He's having a couple beers. And I'm not saying
Starting point is 00:18:44 you have to like drink to figure out who you are, but you're seeing him kind of relax, not just with the Ilya stuff, not just with the Rose stuff, but he's just having fun. I think he's starting to piece together who he is. And that's why I think that Rose relationship was so important not just to figure out who he is sexually, but more so to figure out who am I, period. Yeah. Like what makes me happy? What do I want in this life? Because as of now, I've been the poster child for perfection.
Starting point is 00:19:12 I've got all these great brand deals. I'm the number one player in hockey. I've got two Stanley Cups, an MVP, headed to the All-Star game as the captain. But that's not who I am. That's a product of who I am. Yeah. But who the fuck am I? And you're starting to see him.
Starting point is 00:19:26 And I think that was. such a pivotal thing to happen, to be able to take steps forward with Ilya. Because this whole time he's fighting himself trying to figure this whole thing out. He's fighting Ilya trying to figure him out. But until he knows who he is, period, nothing can move forward. So that that Rose storyline was so damn important for so many reasons that were not sex related. It was actually more so just, this is who I am. I'm Shane Hollander. And it was, it was refreshing. to see him, like, take these steps. Yeah, and I think he felt a lot later going down to the All-Star game.
Starting point is 00:20:03 You know, Elya doesn't know, but he kind of let slip a little bit here and there. Like, yeah, Rose isn't with me. Rose is gone. Eli's face perks up. And it's a good moment to it. It's a really good scene, too, that I feel like maybe even like a lot of people didn't realize. What it is is all of these players are down there. All their families are down there.
Starting point is 00:20:20 And yet we're just focused on the two of them. They're the only two people in the room. And when they realize that and when they start, they start talking to each other, and they realize that chemistry is still there, everything's still, everything that they've been building for fucking seven years is still there, you get a little smirk, they're being a little holly jolly, and again
Starting point is 00:20:36 it's just them. They're the only two people in that room that really matter to the two of them until, you know, the dickhead from the Amherald shows up, he's like, boys, what's going on, are we have fun? Are we going to do this or what? It's like, oh, fuck, yeah, I forgot. That's what we're doing here, but it's still lighter. It's not that big, like, moment
Starting point is 00:20:52 of fuck, oh yeah, there's other guys here, like, we better be on our best guard. They're not. They're way lighter. They show that they have that friendship, even going into the pool where Aaliyah is just playing with all the kids. Shane's involved. They're still kind of chirping back and forth. They're able to hang out. And they're not worried that people are going to be like, oh, look at these two dickheads hanging out together.
Starting point is 00:21:10 They hate each other. They're not worried about any of that because they're just so happy to see each other. And by taking away the pressure of trying to hide them just simply being together, not sexually, but just physically standing next to each other. When you remove that pressure, they're able to finally get. get to know each other. Right. That's what this trip to Tampa was is we've been texting cutesy shit back and forth, you know,
Starting point is 00:21:36 Ilya's been sexting. Shane doesn't know how to, which is very funny. But we've never really gotten, like we don't know shit about each other. So this is a chance for them to see. And I think that's why they had that scene with the kids. Because in Shane's eyes,
Starting point is 00:21:50 he's like, this hard-ass Russian that never smiles and is probably a dick. He's not. He's in the pool with the kids, having fun. He's lighthearted. He's making jokes. So Shane sees a totally different side.
Starting point is 00:22:02 And I think this is what shifts it from, I think I'm in love with you to, oh, fuck, I'm totally in love with this guy. Yeah, absolutely for both sides, honestly. And I think it's a little bit of a harder pill for Ilya to swallow than it is for Shane. Shane's dead set on it, fully understands it. It's very important as we move through. You go to the All-Star game. They've got great chemistry. They're playing well together.
Starting point is 00:22:24 They score or Shane scores a goal. Ilya comes over and gives them a big kiss on the cheek. they're not worried about anything. Now, obviously, they're not taking it even further and just making out on the ice, but they are at least able to show like, hey, we're friends. We can be friends. You guys don't have to always,
Starting point is 00:22:38 which sets the stage for episode six really well, you don't always have to think of us as going against each other. We're not always against each other. We're able to be at least cordial, if not a lot more, which is very important. As we move forward and we get that little drop in there, room 11-12. You knock, maybe I'll answer.
Starting point is 00:22:56 Maybe I'll answer. We'll see how this goes, which brings us all the way back to episode one, which is great. But this was a very important scene because Shane has found himself. Shane understands who he is. Ilya has not really. And Aaliyah is sitting down once again. I don't think he knows who he is.
Starting point is 00:23:11 He does. He knows how to deal with the feelings he's feeling. With Shane, yes, in particular. He doesn't want to talk about anything. They have to sit down and talk. Shane shows up, sits right down. We're going to talk this out. The last time was different.
Starting point is 00:23:22 You know it was fucking different. I think I'm gay. You think? Are you sure about that? What gave that one away? Are we sure about this? Are we have this? He's still trying to deflect.
Starting point is 00:23:32 He's still trying to just throw it out the window. Like, we're not having this serious conversation. I don't want to tell you about my family. I don't want to tell you about anything that's going on. I don't want to address the fact that we called each other by our first names that time back in Boston. We're not talking about any of that. We're just going right back to where it was because comfortability is good for Elia. That's what he wants.
Starting point is 00:23:48 But that's not what Shane wants. Shane has found something more here. He has, and he just wants to know that he's not crazy. And I think that. Another thing that stands out to me, you know, as I'm watching this and trying to get the messaging and everything is the amount of hurdles, right? The amount of roadblocks and walls that they have to navigate to try to find each other and find themselves in this whole thing. I think that by using hockey is actually a metaphor for so much more. I think that, you know, the timing.
Starting point is 00:24:19 The timing's never right. They're passing in the wind. You know, he's in Boston. He's in Montreal. He's in Ottawa. He's here. He's there. He's here.
Starting point is 00:24:25 He's there. but I think that all of these hurdles that they have to try to jump through, I think that's a metaphor for just navigating a relationship like this as a whole, trying to deal with, you know, not coming out, trying to find yourself. Are you in the closet, trying to date like this, trying to be secretive? I think they do a really good job of highlighting that with the struggles that they have going through their daily lives. I don't think that it's necessarily just saying like, oh, they're in different cities.
Starting point is 00:24:53 I think that it's saying much more than that where it's like they're not on the same page. They're trying to find each other, trying to find themselves. And I think they do a really good job of positioning the show to make us feel these obstacles, these physical obstacles that we're seeing. But those physical obstacles, I think they apply metaphorically across the board in any relationship like this. We're trying to figure these things out. I think that they use these barriers to make us feel it, but it was actually more of an emotional
Starting point is 00:25:22 barrier. I think that makes total sense. I think that makes a lot of sense. And there's still so many more things that they need to figure out, but this is the good starting point. This is at least, hey, we're not going to do the exact same thing. We're not just going to immediately have sex. Like, yeah, we can have sex later. We're going to. We're going to fucking talk. We're going to fucking talk. We're going to fucking talk. We're going to fuck and talk. Correct. But we're actually going to talk first. We're going to talk and fuck. We're going to talk and fuck. We're going to talk afterwards. Yeah. Damn it. Don't be surprised if we talk after. Yeah. Because I want to just try to make an emotional connection here.
Starting point is 00:25:53 We're going to figure this shit out. And there's a lot of things that we need to figure out on Elyas side now. And that's what the dynamic shift in this episode. Uh-huh. Big dynamic shift. And I got a lot to say about the dynamics in episode six because they do a really good job of kind of messing with it. But in this, it's the first time that we've seen Elya open up at all.
Starting point is 00:26:16 Uh-huh. Right? He's now addressing the Russia part of it, where it's like, I'll never be welcome back. my dad this, my brother of that, a lot of pressure, can't do that. So what this does is it takes the onus off of Shane. Because up until this point, Shane has been trying to figure out what is wrong with me? Right.
Starting point is 00:26:34 What am I doing wrong that you, we can't have a conversation about things. Eli's had the power the whole time. Exactly. And you see it shift. And that's so important in navigating their future together because you had to have that dynamic shift. Right. And you have to give Shane the driver. the driver's seat for a little bit
Starting point is 00:26:52 so that he can try to figure out Ilya but more importantly that Ilya can finally relinquish the reins for a second and it allows for him to start soul searching. Now he doesn't have to be in charge of this whether he wanted it to go this way or not he has now opened up and he's vulnerable
Starting point is 00:27:08 so now he takes on the role of where Shane's been. Shane found himself which allowed for Shane to help Ilya. Correct. Beautiful. And that's the best way to do it and while we're on the topic of Russia, we've got some news. Elya's dad. Oh, I was like, what happened?
Starting point is 00:27:25 No, yeah. Current events, no, absolutely not. We're not doing that on this podcast. Fuck, no. But news from Russia, as we move forward, because we've got a new leaf. Things are different. Maybe we'll move forward. We're excited to see each other again.
Starting point is 00:27:39 Shane's excited to continue the conversation. Get Elya to open up a little bit more. Actually, weirdly, Elya didn't go back with the team. Mm-mm. He was supposed to be going back. but he didn't go back. He has to go back to Russia because his dad died. Now, this was very important because we actually get to see all the things that Ely was talking about. All the pressures that happened back home.
Starting point is 00:28:01 I've got my dad. I've got my brother. I've got this. We've seen little glimpses here and there that his brother's a complete piece of shit. He's just getting the money. But here we find his dad finally passed away. We have to go back. No one knows anything. There's just no news of anything. I just didn't go back. We don't know where the fuck he is. He's in Russia. Morning his father. More so, figuring out what the fuck to do moving forward. I have to show face. His brother's just staring at him. Just locking eyes with Alexi, dude. I hate that guy.
Starting point is 00:28:26 Yeah, he's an absolute piece of shit. But this was a really powerful scene, too, because this is Elia taking back power from his family. His dad is dead. They have to move forward. What are we going to do? His brother still expects all this money. Where's the money going to go?
Starting point is 00:28:39 What are we supposed to do moving forward? You have to figure this whole fucking thing out. No, absolutely not. Thank God Svetlana stepped in because he finally gets another voice and it's enough power where he can stand up to his brother, which was all. Awesome.
Starting point is 00:28:51 It's great. Fucking sock him again, bop him again. He deserves it. This is what we need to see. So working through this whole thing, you see him finally stand up and he's learned a lot. I think this is a huge thing. I'm going to set up a trust for my niece. Fuck you.
Starting point is 00:29:04 I'm never going to talk to you again. I don't want anything to do with you. Perfect. It was. Absolutely perfect way to do it. And I think that to build on that, this is his conversation with Rose. Right? This is Shane talking to Rose.
Starting point is 00:29:16 This is his version of that. This was his big hill to climb. is getting the power back from his family, like you said. And then, my God. Oh, yeah, this is the closest I came to crying while watching the show. Oh, I cried. Yeah, I knew you would. Damn right, I cried.
Starting point is 00:29:32 Yeah. He goes out. Moonlight Sonata over it, too. The music in this show, man, they get you. They really do. But Shane had texted him, hey, are you okay? He hadn't heard from him yet. He calls him.
Starting point is 00:29:46 And it's different right out of the gate, right? Shane recognizes it's different, feels different, he's talking different. And we get a moment where Shane's like, what if you just say it all in Russian? I won't understand what you're saying. Well, you knew he was emotional too because he's like, yeah, English is too hard for me right now. Yeah. It's like, oh, fuck. All right.
Starting point is 00:30:06 Just say it in Russian. I won't know a word you're saying, but at least it'll make you feel better. And this was like a five minute long just soliloquy. Full soliloquy, over beautiful music, saying everything that he felt. just really crushing all of the shit that he's been going through in Russia. That was obviously important for Ilya to get through. And then he moves up to Shane. And he actually says all the things he's been thinking,
Starting point is 00:30:30 all of the things that have been bottled up in his body that he wasn't able to actually tell Shane in all of those moments that we watched, we were like, just fucking say you love him. Just do it, brother. Come on. Let's move forward. Because we needed this. We needed this.
Starting point is 00:30:43 And this was such a great moment as he works through everything. And then the last little bit is just all about how much it's been fucking him up that every time he's doing things and moving on and moving forward all he can think about is Shane and Shane has no idea what he's saying but he's listening
Starting point is 00:30:57 he knows I think he knows yeah he understands that there's something there because he was able to just get all of this out is like are you good you feel better now I do feel better yes I do perfect well done end of the conversation
Starting point is 00:31:11 I do wish you were here though and he agrees again in Russian he's not able to fully say it but he's able to say it of Russian which is important It's a step. We're taking baby steps here for Eileya. Steps and that's okay.
Starting point is 00:31:23 And I thought this was beautiful. I thought it was so well done. I wanted so bad for Shane to say something back in Russian. And he'd be like, oh, no. But he didn't obviously. And that probably would have taken away from it somewhat. But yeah, I mean, it makes everything previously not makes sense because we knew where he stood. But the buildup of watching him struggle, right?
Starting point is 00:31:47 It's the payoff that really good. It is. And it was so necessary and it was so emotional that, yeah, you're damn right. I cried. And he got it off of his chest. So like you said, it's the Rose moment. He's finally able to move forward and feel like himself again, gets back to the U.S., starts tearing it up. Immediately starts tearing it up.
Starting point is 00:32:04 We've got a huge match coming up. The two are facing off. Playoff implications. We've got standings to worry about. We're not worried about goal scoring anymore. They're well-established. They're not worried about any of that. But this is the first time they're going to see each other after that conversation.
Starting point is 00:32:18 so they're circling it on their calendar starts off a lot of smiles there it's a lot of smiles dude it was it was adorable in the way that Shane goes over to him to be like hey you uh you want to come over to my house later you can go in the front door front door bold yeah brother you're worried about that nope not worried at all we're good we've got this figured out what did you just say to rosanoff over there and I just wish some condolences what do you say fuck off what an asshole what an absolute asshole you got to keep that going got to keep the mask going but They're just two in love. They're not paying attention to the hockey anymore.
Starting point is 00:32:52 Oh, you forgot the pregame. He goes over to his house before the game. Oh, I forgot about the pregame. Yeah. This is a bad idea. I was so excited. I was so excited to talk about the hit. I know.
Starting point is 00:33:00 I know. That was funny. I know. But yeah, he goes over before the game even happens. And even there, like, it's different because you have Ilya making jokes. What you see, and this was huge. Because I noticed with Spatlana, when they were in bed, together.
Starting point is 00:33:19 I'd never seen that, Ilya, where he's like, everybody, making jokes and, like, jumping on or stuff like that. What does he do with Shane? The same shit. And that's the first time. And I was like, oh, wait, wait. It's real. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:33 Woo! Like, hell yeah. Just say it again. But I think that that was, again, Shane had to find himself to find Ilya. Ilya had to find himself to find Shane. And now we're in a spot where the, other stuff is finally put to bed. They can both focus on this thing now,
Starting point is 00:33:54 which still, you've got a lot of hurdles to get over to make this thing work, but it's no longer, is this bad, is this wrong? Do I only feel this way and he doesn't? Yep. They've now gotten to a mutual spot
Starting point is 00:34:09 that they're going to be able to work on this and be able to potentially move forward, not to the cottage yet, because that's what Shane brings up. And he's like, hey, why don't you come to my, my cottage for the summer. It'll be great. Two weeks.
Starting point is 00:34:20 And he was like, I... He does that at the hospital bed when he's loopy. Oh, is that one that was? Yeah. Yeah. Oh, okay. Well, let's get there then. You can go. You can talk about the hit. Well, oh, God, the hit was fucking thunderous. Just absolutely ripped him apart. And it was funny, too, because it brings you back to the outside perspective where they have no idea what the fuck's going on. And Shane just gets absolutely demolished because he's turning around, smiling at Ely.
Starting point is 00:34:40 He's got the puck in front of him. Gets absolutely fucking railroaded. By what? What do you mean? By love? Is that what you're going to say? That hit is reality. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:34:52 I didn't realize the symbolism. I was just so excited. It was such a big hit. It was a great hit. It was clean, too. Clean. I mean, I liked it, but that's a clean hit. But that's what that was.
Starting point is 00:35:01 That was there locked on each other's eyes. He's in the middle of a game skating towards the net, and he's looking back at Rosenoff. Of course you're going to catch a hit. Fucking smoke. Yeah, you get blindsided. That sucks. But that's what that was.
Starting point is 00:35:14 It's like, oh, we're feeling it at home. Butterflies, rainbow. This is great. We finally got the boys together. Like everything's going to be okay. Bam, not yet. Yep. Yeah, not yet.
Starting point is 00:35:23 One last hurdle to get over, boys. But Rosenoff is just kind of flopping around. Like looking around at him like, is he going to be all right? What's going to happen? Lingering. Is he okay? And the fucking, the radio announcers like, even Rosentoff doesn't want to see a hit like that. It's like you guys have no idea what the hell is going on.
Starting point is 00:35:40 This is so funny how they've been able to keep this a secret. And Shane is just fucking concussed to the gills getting out of there. He's going to worry about me. Who, your dad? No, Elya. What? What the hell's going on? Keep your damn eyes open.
Starting point is 00:35:53 What the hell's going on here? And Ely is showing up at the hospital is wild and so funny. And the nurse was fucking, the nurse cracked me up. As Elyas walking through and Shane's just loopy as hell, I was worried that he was going to spill the beans to someone. And this was going to be, I was, I was worried the entire time. And like that really shows you like how daunting of a subject this is. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:36:14 I was worried the entire time that somebody was going to out them. I was worried the whole time that something was going to happen, break to the press, how are they going to handle this? How you felt, and that's what's so cool about this show, is they're able to relay that to us, the audience. Yeah. Like at any moment, like, this is a secret that you hold so close to your heart, but you are always one moment away. Yeah. One pain killer way in the hospital from something slipping. One bad hit from something slipping.
Starting point is 00:36:39 It shows you the fragility of all of this. And I think that was massive because two straight guys, like we don't think. think about that. No. That's never on my radar. No, and it wasn't even like one of those things where, like, because a lot of times when I'm watching shows, I'm worried from like a storyline or like a plot perspective, like, ah, don't do that.
Starting point is 00:36:57 That's going to take away from it. This was like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, they're not ready. You're going to ruin it. You're going to ruin the whole thing. They're going to run away from each other. Figuring it out still. We can't do this. We need to make sure that they're settled before things come out.
Starting point is 00:37:08 Stop giving him drugs. Fuck off. Don't do this. And it's off coming in just to check on him, check on his sweet boy. Hey, yeah, you guys. to come to the cottage. Come on. We'll have so much fun.
Starting point is 00:37:21 A week, two weeks, I don't know. Whatever we're going to do. And I love that because even going back and you go back to, there was a scene where Shane was having lunch with his parents and they were trying to get him to go to Wimbledon. And he's like, yeah, like, I get two weeks off a year. I don't want to go out to fucking London and sit in a box next to somebody that I don't care about. He's got two weeks off a year.
Starting point is 00:37:42 He wants to hang out with Aalya. That's his priorities. Ilya is still not ready for it. No, we can't do that. I still have to go back to Russia. Why the fuck do you have to go back to Russia? Enough of the Russia's stuff. We're not doing this. We can go to Canada. We can go to a different country.
Starting point is 00:37:54 We can hang out together. It's fine. The nurse popping in, Mr. Rosanoff, you're not going to smother him with a pillow, are you? I know. No. See you later, Hollander. Heal up. We'll see you next season. Bye, Ilya.
Starting point is 00:38:07 Literally going, shh, as he leaves the room. It was. Absolutely so funny. It's incredible. The scorebed app here with trusted stats and real-time sports news. Starting point is 00:39:47 I don't think they had much of a chance, though. Not without Hollander. Nope. I don't think they had much of a chance even with Hollander because the admirals were fucking rolling, buddy. They crushed Shane's back at home recovering, hanging out with his parents, watching the, I always forget the Raiders,
Starting point is 00:40:02 the Boston Raiders. No, the Raiders weren't playing. No, no, no, but the admirals crushed the Raiders and Ely was out. And that's where Shane's mom's like, oh, Rosenov's dealing with some ribs? How the fuck do you know that? I watch a lot of hockey.
Starting point is 00:40:15 She is a gamer. That's a ball knower right there. Yeah, she knows puck. She knows puck. Yeah, she absolutely knows puck. But that's where Shane's just texting with Rosenoff. Like, hey, your ribs are right? Oh, fuck, do you know my ribs?
Starting point is 00:40:26 My mom thinks you got some ribbish. Yep, I do. She also thinks this is Scott Hunter's year. And boy, oh boy, was it. It was Scott Hunter's here. This was awesome. So we are watching the game with the boys, obviously, juxtapose scenes. And the admirals win it.
Starting point is 00:40:45 And that's awesome. We've heard about Scott Hunter's trials and tribulations this season, so we finally got the ship right. Bang, the Admirals win a cup. Now, they're celebrating. I cried again because they cut to Kip in the audience. Yeah, Kip's crying. Kipp's with his dad and Elena.
Starting point is 00:41:02 Yeah, and he was crying. Was his dad there? Yeah, his dad was right next to him. Oh, dude, yeah. I was too focused on Kip. Dad, big Ibrals fan. Yeah, huge abel. I was feeling Kipp's emotions.
Starting point is 00:41:11 I wonder if by this point, because this is year, this is four years later, So I wonder if by this point his dad's like, so you had a thing going on with Scott Hunter. Wait, that was four years later. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because this was, they were together before Sochi. That's right, because they had that running scene randomly put back in that other. 2013 is when they broke up. This is now 2017.
Starting point is 00:41:32 Oh, my God. Yeah, how crazy is that? That's so sad. It is really sad, yeah. And you can tell Kipp still loves Scott. He's still at the game. They got great tickets. I don't know if Scott's still giving him tickets.
Starting point is 00:41:42 I doubt it. I assume probably. It looked like a similar spot, though. It was a very similar spot. And again, this could just be production because they didn't have a whole lot of a budget. But at the same time, still worked out because Scott knew exactly where Kipp was.
Starting point is 00:41:54 Maybe it was just the power of love that figured it out. He just, he's looking around. I felt so bad for Scott, too. And that's when I kind of piece together. I'm like, oh, you better do something with Kip here. I know, dude. Everybody's got their family coming out. Their wives are coming out.
Starting point is 00:42:06 The kids are running around. Scott's got no one. Scott has no one. His parents died in a car accident. As you guys know, the whole foundation to thank for that. So here we go. What are you going to do? You've got Kip right up there.
Starting point is 00:42:17 You lock eyes. Come on down. It's time. He finally got his thing. He got his dream. And he had this speech in the beginning of episode six too. Took care of his family. He's got everything all settled.
Starting point is 00:42:28 But he had that speech in the beginning of episode six where he's like, yeah, I achieved my lifelong dream. I'm like of coming out or of finding love or no, it was the cup. But that's what it was. He won the cup. He's settled everything. everything's good. He's got that moment. His rose moment. It's his rose moment. There's his rose moment.
Starting point is 00:42:49 Kip come on down to the ice. No one knows what the fuck's going on. I do think that Elia and Shane were sitting there like, whoa. They picked up on it. Is he with this guy? Or like this isn't a family. We know he has no family. This isn't a family member.
Starting point is 00:43:01 Who the hell is this? The announcers are confused. Everybody's confused. The best part about this whole thing when he brings Kip down and has that moment, all the fans are cheering. Yep. Hell yeah. It was awesome.
Starting point is 00:43:12 And he brings him down. that last wall is the hockey boards, and he crosses through those boards, and Kipp's like, come on, you don't have to. And he's like, oh, yeah, I do. And they give a spectacular kiss in front of everybody. Momentous. It was.
Starting point is 00:43:30 That's exactly what it was. This was a momentous occasion. I'm at home crying. It was beautiful. And to watch this whole thing come together after watching their beautiful romance in the beginning, all I was asking from when we left episode three until we get into this. This moment is where the fuck is Kip and Skis? Yeah, I want to know what Kip was up to.
Starting point is 00:43:46 Like Scott, I know he's playing hockey. I want to know what's Kip up to. I don't know. He's still working on the smoothie place. They took him from us for a while. But they need to be featured in season two. It has to happen. But this was so cool to watch because, and I think this is almost a comparison.
Starting point is 00:44:03 I talked about this last episode of comparing Scott's journey to that of Shane's. And I think that's what happened when, because it felt like Scott picked up on Shane. We talked about that. And I imagine he saw a younger version of himself in him. He's like, I know exactly what you're going through, dude. And I think this was not only a message to the world, obviously, to the sporting world and the world at large. I think this was a message to Shane.
Starting point is 00:44:28 Like, I'm going to take this step to pave the way for you. To all of the shanes of the world. Yeah, to all the shanes of the world. Yeah, exactly. Where it's like, it is okay. And that's, you feel the mood of the shanes. show, I guess, overall, it's very tense, right? Very tense. It starts to lighten up and it's almost building to this. It's almost like making us feel this tension, this anxiety throughout the majority
Starting point is 00:44:55 of the season to get to these big moments where we all get to go exhale and watch them have their big moment, watch them finally feel like, ah, I'm me. Yeah, I'm me. That's cool as shit. It's great. Yeah, it's absolutely great. And the way that that, that ends. It obviously speaks to Ely and Shane. And the way that they're developing feelings for each other and realizing what the hell's going on, they're having an oh shit moment. Like what the hell is going on? I can't believe he just did that. You think maybe Ely is just calling Shane to be like, whoa. That's what I thought. Maybe this is okay for us. Maybe we can figure this out. Instead, and that is kind of what he was saying, I'm coming to the cottage. I'm coming to the cottage.
Starting point is 00:45:36 Yep. What a way to end that. They hangs out. Absolutely perfect. leaves us on a cliffhanger knowing what's going to happen. I was cliff hung because Dev had to go to bed because you had to wake up early. So we had to watch it the next day. But that takes us right into episode six. And it's picking up Ilya at the airport, I believe. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:55 And this is new for all of us, right? Obviously new for them. This is the first like couple thing that they've really done together. And you can feel it because Shane picks up Ilya from the airport. also have you noticed that as this thing went on, we went from calling them Hollander and Rosanoff. Oh, it's Shane and Ilya. Immediately, yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:15 Interesting. But they're in the car. Shane is still trying to figure. Well, hold on. Before we get to the car, I love that Elia is walking through the airport, gets in there. You're in Canada now.
Starting point is 00:46:27 And Shane asks if anybody recognized him. Yes. Abs a fucking looting. Did you see what he was wearing? This dude's a fucking stud. Absolutely. Everybody in that right everybody in the airport looked over was like holy shit Biceps.
Starting point is 00:46:41 That's Rosed off. Come on. Look at that fucking guy. Everybody wanted to fuck him. Everybody wanted his autograph. Everybody wanted to get a picture with him. Yep. But no,
Starting point is 00:46:48 no one recognized them. Sure. Okay. Yeah. We'll believe that one. I'll buy into the storyline. That's fine in, you know, the hockey capital of the world.
Starting point is 00:46:57 Sure. But they're driving together and it's tense. Not tense like it's been in the past. Tense like, ooh. They don't know what. It's excitement tense. Yeah. And like apprehension maybe.
Starting point is 00:47:10 Shane does a pretty good job of laying it out. Like we're going to be at my mountain house. I told my parents I'm going on a silent retreat. So they're not going to contact me. It's just going to be us. Already went to the grocery store, got a ton of food for us. We'll be posted up. We don't have to leave unless we want to, but we don't have to leave at all.
Starting point is 00:47:27 Because they still don't. That's the other thing. They're not really sure of each other in the sense of like, do we want to just be secluded, completely private, never anywhere? Or, you know, we could leave. That's what this is. No, let's just leave it open. Yeah, they're figuring the whole thing out.
Starting point is 00:47:38 That's what these two weeks are going to be. And it's just beautiful. The way that they lay the groundwork for what's going to happen over the next two weeks, you know, you're going to stay. Everybody's got a king-sized bed near. Everything's got a view. Well, there's only one that has non-sweet bathroom. And I guess aren't allowed here.
Starting point is 00:47:54 Sorry, dude. It's just the playful flirting that was going on there where they finally can breathe that sigh of relief. Like, we're alone. We're good. We can just be ourselves for the next two weeks. We'll have plenty of time to talk, plenty of time to have sex. It's going to be great. And I think that the lead up to getting to the cottage and getting to those moments is you see Shane trying to figure out, are we really in this place?
Starting point is 00:48:17 And that's why he's kind of tim. And that's why he's trying to lay everything out because he knows how Rosenoff was in the past. So now he's like, okay, like here it is. And the response that he gets is for the first time he's communicative. He's light. He's just like, yeah, I'm excited. We'll get there. They get there.
Starting point is 00:48:36 We have that playful banter going to the bedroom, all that stuff. And you get to feel all of the walls closed down. But again, they hit you in the head with the symbolism here because he starts to close the blinds. He goes, boop. Nope. And yes, one, you know, we all know that Rosenoff likes a little thrill. Yeah, he does. He likes a little thrill.
Starting point is 00:48:57 But it was also a moment to say, we're not hiding this weekend. Yeah. We don't have to hide this weekend. This is us. This is our sanctuary. And damn it, I'm going to leave. these blinds open because I want the world to see. Yeah. That was cool. And the way that they're able to work through this too, like the timeline makes so much sense. They're starting off with easy
Starting point is 00:49:15 conversations, just happy to be around each other. They move into the more heavy stuff. Like, well, you know, I really never want to go back to Russia. Like I want nothing to do with that. Have you talked to your brother? No, I think that's a good thing. I don't even fucking know what the hell's going on. I'm just happy to be here right now. And that's really all that matters. And we're moving through these, these tough topics that we've had such a hard time the entire season. Yeah, it's like the list that we've been building. Yeah, like we've been writing down this list at home. Like, all right, talk about your fucking family.
Starting point is 00:49:42 Talk about Russia. Talk about your plan for the future. What are we supposed to do here? What about Spetana? See them like popping up. And that's when, yeah, Ilya is just kind of trying to work through this whole. I don't really want to be able to go. Like, I don't want them to pull my passport, right?
Starting point is 00:49:54 They find out about this. I need to have some sort of backup plan. Maybe I go, I don't know. Svetlana could probably marry me and I could just immediately get a passport to the states. Take Umbridge immediately. Shane does not want that. And that shows you, I don't want you to marry Svetlana.
Starting point is 00:50:10 I don't want you to marry anyone necessarily. I don't want you to belong to anybody else. Correct. I don't want you to belong to anybody else. And there's probably still some sort of, you know, a little bit of, I don't want you to marry Svetlana because there is love there.
Starting point is 00:50:23 Sure. So I don't want you to just kind of leave me because you find a better thing with Svetlana as you marry her. But also it's, I don't want you to belong to anyone else. You're mine. And I'm yours.
Starting point is 00:50:32 And that's really all the matter. And the first moment when they're on the couch, before everything else happens, we have that line from Shane where he's like, for these next two weeks, let's be honest. We're going to say everything we're feeling.
Starting point is 00:50:44 I mean, okay, maybe. And we find out that he hasn't hooked up with anybody since he was with Shane. So that's the first, like, okay, box checked. He's not running around. That's good. And we keep going through that list,
Starting point is 00:50:58 like you said, but you're watching them both do it in a way where they're still not fully comfortable until the Spetlanum. moment. And that was the last, like, real wall was, let's address this right now. So he brings that up. He's saying that to Shane, like, one, yeah, it's a viable option. But two, he wants to know what he feels about this. Yeah. Are you cool with this? Like, would you be fine with me being with somebody else just for a green card? And instantly, Shane's like, well, yeah, I guess, but you know, you could,
Starting point is 00:51:28 you could marry somebody. And that's where your, your theory comes into play, where it's like, oh, is this about women or is this about Svetlana? Correct. And it's a little bit of both, but a big part of it is, you love her. I don't want that involved. Yeah, I don't want anything to do with that. To have a moment where Shane puts his foot down
Starting point is 00:51:45 and says, I don't want you to do that. Don't do that. That was massive for him because that shows a big step forward where he is comfortable telling Ilya what he wants. And on the flip side, Shane needs that acceptance from Ilya. He needs to feel that that's okay. and Ilya does that long speech about like, oh, yeah, I know I get lots of jicks and this and that and the other.
Starting point is 00:52:06 But I always have this slow, boring hockey player with a week back. That was the confirmation for Shane to be like, oh my God, this is real. And that was Ilya saying, I know exactly where you stand now, Shane Hollander. And guess what, buddy? I'm on fucking board. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:24 And the way that they work through pretty much everything else, they're just trying to come up with a way that they can stay together, come up with a way that they don't have to keep doing what they've been doing for the last seven years. Like we can't keep doing it this way, but also trying to figure out italy this problem. Why don't you get a Canadian passport? You know, if you look over, I think it was Toronto maybe. No, it was Montreal. Ottawa, Ottawa, thank you.
Starting point is 00:52:45 Ottawa needs a center. They need a good center. They've got a lot of cap space. We're bringing the NHL back into this. We're actually bringing in sports again. Hey, they need this. Would you leave Boston? Yeah, I would leave Boston.
Starting point is 00:52:54 I don't really owe them anything. I could move on immediately. Okay, from there, where do we go? We have to start breaking down these walls of this rivalry. Everybody thinks that we hate each other. Maybe if you go to Ottawa, it's not too far away, we can come up with some sort of passion that we're both invested in. Charity.
Starting point is 00:53:11 Something that we really can do together. Maybe we have some sort of heated rivalry charity. Hey, we can come together for a good cause. Can you? And then we start breaking down those walls where all of a sudden, we're not viewed as these two people that hate each other and we're always competing. We could be friends. We could have this thing going on.
Starting point is 00:53:29 And it makes a ton of sense, actually. Yeah, it does. Bitch. No, it does. And it's the first time, and this is a product of the journey that we've been on. The product of the journey that we've all witnessed is we can talk about the future now. Yep. We've got through our list of things we need to check off.
Starting point is 00:53:54 Ilya laid and finally said, I love you. You get that, oh my God, that was so fucking emotional when he's finally able to say I love you. Yeah. And watching that moment of relief from Ilya to finally be like, oh, I've been putting on this fucking tough guy routine since my mom died. I've been trying to be strong, trying to be this. He allows himself to finally be fully vulnerable. And that's what I was talking about earlier, the full dynamic shift. Because who's laying on who now?
Starting point is 00:54:26 Uh-huh. Now you got Ilya laying on shame. Now you've gotten to a place where this is balanced. They rely on each other. They lean on each other. They support each other. And without all the other shit happening, did it have to take seven years? Probably not.
Starting point is 00:54:40 But without all this other shit happening, none of this would be happening now. It's almost like they had to go through these trials and tribulations to get to this point to figure out themselves, to figure out each other so they can be there for each other so they can have a future together. That's all that really matters. And I love the little moments that happen in here. where, you know, they're just flirting and having a great time. They're just in love, hanging out. But also, they're playing NHL against each other. And they're having a dispute.
Starting point is 00:55:04 They're playing as each other. So vice versa. Ilya's playing as Shane, vice versa. And at this moment, it's just so funny because you're like, oh, my God, like, this is great. It's awesome. This is fucking awesome. You have Elya Rosendorf who's like, fuck you. I'm on the cover of the game.
Starting point is 00:55:20 And they're in a relationship. Like, that's so fucking awesome. And everything seems to be going so perfect. They're figuring things out. They're planning for their future together. And what's one last hurdle to jump over? The parents. The parents.
Starting point is 00:55:34 And in walks Sean McNamara from Niptuck. Oh, yeah. Nice. Yeah. It was driving me crazy. I had to look it up. Shane's dad walks in, sees the two of them kissing after hanging out in the lake. They're just having the perfect time.
Starting point is 00:55:47 It's one last trial to get through. And Sean McNamara runs away. Yeah, I was like, oh, no, dad. I was so worried that this was going to play out so much worse. I know. And Shane's freaking out. Elya, thankfully, is his rock. They're your family.
Starting point is 00:56:02 They'll understand. You have to go talk to them. I'll come with you if you want to. You would really do that? Absolutely, I would do that for you. I love the way that they work through this. They're getting ready to go over, getting in the car, and he's looking at Elya wearing the Boston Raiders shirt.
Starting point is 00:56:15 That's not going to help. That's not going to help. What, they don't know I play for the Raiders. They go, okay. I know you're overthinking this. It's okay. Tries to calm them down on the ride over. We don't know what the fuck to expect.
Starting point is 00:56:25 here the dad didn't even tell his mom. I know. He's like, I forgot a charger. That's why I popped up. What the hell's going on? Gay. What's going on?
Starting point is 00:56:35 I'm gay. No, I'm gay with the inflection at the end. It was very funny to me because he's like, what you mean? No. Oh, dad did. Oh,
Starting point is 00:56:43 it's different. All right. Well, cats out of the bag. Now you know. But yeah, to speak just really quickly on that moment where they're,
Starting point is 00:56:53 Ilya's trying to calm down Shane. I think that was a really cool moment because in the past, I think Shane would have panicked and ran. But now he has this support system in Ilya where he can be like, I don't have to run. And it shows you that even if everything else falls apart, even if everyone finds out and we get ostracized from the league
Starting point is 00:57:14 and my parents don't talk to me, I still have you. You still have me. So let's go take care of this shit with my parents. Now, the way that they handled it, was great. We had to get there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:27 Because I was like, Dad, fuck, like, come on. Somebody step in. Please be cool. And it's awkward as shit. Yeah. And they start to open up a little bit. The way that it played out was,
Starting point is 00:57:37 obviously, it was awkward as shit to start off with. But the shift from, well, yeah, I mean, we kind of had suspicions that you were gay.
Starting point is 00:57:45 We thought it a couple of times. That made the Swedish princess line makes so much more sense. Yeah, they were trying to, yeah, they were just trying to do that. But the way that they worked through it,
Starting point is 00:57:53 it's almost like, She was more upset that he chose Elya. Yeah. It's like, what, like, I understand that you're gay. Like, all right, like, I accept that. Of course, Boston Raider. Are you fucking kidding me, this guy? We're really doing this with Rosenoff?
Starting point is 00:58:06 Since when, by the way? Eelia, actually. I like my name. It's not, yeah, but that's okay. Thanks for the spaghetti. I'm just going to keep sitting over here eating while you guys are working through this whole thing. And it does come to a bit of a stalemate as we're working through everything. Like, yeah, how long has this been going on since our rookie season?
Starting point is 00:58:23 Well, actually, the summer before, not helping. Yep, not helping. You guys, we're lovers. Not, ew. No one's not to say that. No one's fucking stop saying that guys. But they work through everything and pretty much their entire history. It's like, holy shit, this is heavy.
Starting point is 00:58:36 This is crazy. His mom is rattled. And she walks out and it's like, uh, is she upset again? Like, is she not going to accept him? No, she's upset with herself. Which is very important to note. As Shane walks out and he's just kind of talking through with everything, she's really upset at herself.
Starting point is 00:58:52 Like I didn't do enough as a mom to, make you feel comfortable enough to come out. I put too many pressures on you, whatever it may have been. But this is just Shane takes it over. This is his moment. Look, I actually feel a lot better right now because I'm able to actually have this conversation with you. It's better than what I've been dealing with for a while.
Starting point is 00:59:10 So don't do any of that. I think that was a really important moment, too. Yeah. And she gets to that point because she sees Ilya comfort Shane. And she's like, shit, I should have been there for him comforting him along the way, but I didn't recognize. it. When he said to his mom, I really tried.
Starting point is 00:59:28 I'm like, fuck. That made me so sad. Yeah. That you have to try to be somebody else to fit into this social norm that people think you should be. That sucks, dude. And like, to watch him multiple times, I really tried. I want you to know
Starting point is 00:59:44 I really tried. And for his mom, she's like, oh my God, like tried, you didn't have to try. Like, I should have made you comfortable to be able to come to me about this stuff. This isn't a you problem. Shane, this is a me problem. It's actually a microcosmphor. It's a much larger-scale problem that this stigma still exists.
Starting point is 01:00:02 It's so dumb. And now we get to watch this. And I think the timing of this show, because after that, we get that awesome scene where it's like, I'll pick up the beers. You guys get this. I'm like family vacation. Please call or text before you come over. Yeah, we'll be over.
Starting point is 01:00:16 It's like 5 o'clock. I don't know. We'll call. We're not going to do that again. We're call and text. Yeah. Just keep your phone there. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:23 Please text. Yeah. Oh, God. But I think that with where we're currently at in the world, you know, in this country alone, I think this is such an important piece of work for so many people to see. And I think that the fact that it's resonating with such a large audience speaks volumes. And I think that it's important for so many communities. Obviously, the LGBTQIA community to have representation to be able to see this received as well as it is.
Starting point is 01:00:54 And on the other side of that, for straight guys to watch this and understand, hopefully understand a little bit more, or at least at the very least, be comfortable to have conversations, to be open to learning more about it because that's how we get to a place of acceptance. That's where we get to a place
Starting point is 01:01:10 where we can eliminate these dumb-ass stigmas where we're trying to tell people how they live their lives or what they're doing with their lives, what they do behind closed doors. It's not your fucking business. I don't know why people give a shit. It will always confound me
Starting point is 01:01:22 my other people are concerned with how you look at the fuck cares if you're a good person yeah why the fuck should i care what you do it has no impact on your life zero so to to see this come out at a time now like where we're currently at and to see it so well received was actually a big relief for me because you know where i'm at and and to to to see this so well received i was just like oh wow it's a little hope yeah no it's accepted across the board No matter who you are, what you are, what you're looking at, what you feel about anything to just accept this and be able to watch this again. Like you said before, it's a love story of our generation. It really is.
Starting point is 01:02:03 It's the way to do it. It really is. But let's get to some questions. I've been waiting for... Yeah, I'm going to try to find a lot of funny ones and a couple of real ones. Yeah. First up here from Daphne Burns, do you think Kip and Scott continued seeing each other after Kip's birthday or paused? I think they were done.
Starting point is 01:02:21 I would imagine that, yeah. That was him standing outside the window looking and like, I can't be part of this life. I'm going to move forward. Yeah, that would be a big change to the storyline if they were secretly hooking up that whole time. Yeah, definitely. From Jake Porper, which booty shot did you find most tasteful? I don't know. I see like the one that's always going to hold a place in my heart is seeing Rosenoff's ass in the shower for the first time.
Starting point is 01:02:48 Yeah, I think they go. The first donk drop. Harry in that thing. Yeah, I know. The first, the first donk reveal was probably, yeah, I would say that one because you're like, wow, look at that ass. Yeah. I didn't realize, okay, we're going to have to explain more of the show.
Starting point is 01:03:06 The Trash Panda. Why must they call each other by their last names during sex? It's because that's showing where they're at in their relationship. In the beginning, it's just sex. It's just this hidden secret between the two. of them and they still see each other's quote unquote heated rivals. And the more comfortable they get, you see them start to change their names. That's why that moment in Boston was such a big moment because it's the first time we've ever heard Ilya call him Shane. Yes. That's why. That's
Starting point is 01:03:39 very important. From Jamie La Cava, why was there not more Scott and Kip? As much as I want more Scott and Kip, this story was about Shane and Ilya. Next season, you definitely can, yeah, but I agree. Yeah, I think that they'll end up using Scott as sort of like a North Star. Like, all right, this is what we're going to do.
Starting point is 01:03:58 It's going to be very funny when they do bring it to Scott's attention. Yeah. Because he's also a player in their league. He's going to have a similar reaction to Shane's mom, but probably times 10. Are you fucking kidding me? Are you doing this? Or he's going to be like,
Starting point is 01:04:11 I know. I saw. Like I had the fucking room right next to you guys at Allstar Week. You guys weren't quiet. Yeah, you guys weren't quiet at all. uh from jens suya shag marry kill Shane aelia scott
Starting point is 01:04:25 oh dude come on okay I'm Mary Scott yeah shag ilia I don't want to kill Shane I don't know I don't want to kill Shane either but I don't know you can add Kip in there if you want to why don't I want to kill Kip I'm not killing Kip he's too sweet
Starting point is 01:04:38 uh oh man all right I'll do it I'll do it uh we're both marrying Scott yeah I got to kill Shane and and and that's shame well it depends like what's the mood am I trying to make love or am I trying to bang? I'm trying to bang. You know the game.
Starting point is 01:04:56 No, no, no. You know the game. Then I'm banging I'll you. And I'm killing shit. Sorry. You're trying to change the old post. You're trying to save them. Yep.
Starting point is 01:05:03 Yep, I know. Shavon Beham. What would be in your good luck smoothie? Extra banana for sugar. Extra banana. My favorite smoothie is, is peanut butter powder, almond milk, spinach, vanilla protein, and a drizzle of peanut butter. Yeah, peanut butter.
Starting point is 01:05:28 I think I like that. If I have too much peanut butter, I get stuffed up. You guys didn't need to know that. No, that's fair. From Gwyn Rhodes, favorite line from our King of Comedy, Elia. I really liked when he showed up after the airport and he walked over. He's like, is this a Jeep? I like that.
Starting point is 01:05:45 My favorite is this, that's where you get your boarding from? Yeah, that one's really good, too. Or when he acts like he knows McGill. He's like, McGill? Oh, yeah. What fuck is that? I like that, or, this one just stuck in my head.
Starting point is 01:05:57 Get on your stomach holding there. Yeah. Oh, God. Or even, like, at the game that they played after the All-Star game in the fifth episode, when Shane said, fuck you to him. He said later. Yeah, how that was going. That was going.
Starting point is 01:06:15 Oh, boy. All right. Donia for president. What were y'all's favorite yearning scenes from the show? Oh, man. I loved the nightclub. I mean, the nightclub is, storyline break.
Starting point is 01:06:29 Yeah. I like that. The music, too, is so good. Honestly, right before the big hit, I think. Yeah, this isn't really a yearning scene, but I fucking love that Aaliyah was just sitting on his couch in the dark, watching the architecture. That was funny. Watching Shane do yoga.
Starting point is 01:06:44 He's yearning. He's kind of yearning, yeah. Elliot from Orlando, as two sports fans, does this show capture the industry accurately? I think it didn't need to, but I think it did a pretty good job. Yeah, and the gameplay was on par, which is that's what I always look for. Like, when you watch a football movie, like, does the football actually look like football, or is it like clearly actors trying to do it?
Starting point is 01:07:05 The game speed was great. The skating was great, like that stuff, yeah. And as far as I know, you know, I'm just comparing it to professional baseball. Yes, like the travel and everything's very similar. You always have a roommate. behind the scene stuff all seem to line up for me. Bring the podcast in with Scott Hunter, I thought was cool. So yeah, I thought they did actually a really good job,
Starting point is 01:07:27 which I think is actually crucial to this show to relay the message to actually get it close to the NHL. Yeah. From Holy Beck's Batman. Prude here, can I fast forward through all of the sex or would I miss most of the show? You miss a lot. It's unspoken shit that you're going to miss, like the buildup because of how the sex scenes evolve.
Starting point is 01:07:48 I'm not going to tell you how to watch it. Like, if you wanted to skip through, there are, I just can't tell you, like, which scenes would skip through because there's so many little moments. You could still get a good idea of the show and the storyline without it. But you're going to miss some subtleties. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:05 Things will surprise you later, probably, then you might have picked up on shit a little bit earlier. Yeah. And the last one here, which is important, March trick, which one of the bros, personality-wise, is the Shainan and who is the Elia? Oh, man. What do you think? I'm going to say that you're the Shannon on the Elia.
Starting point is 01:08:30 Okay, just because you're more emotional, but that's pretty much it. That's a good point. Yeah, I'll take that. Pretty much the only one. Oh, so I'm the hole and you're the peg. Hey, no. Hey, no. Whoa.
Starting point is 01:08:41 What was the heated bros? Is that the only fans thing that you were talking about the other day? No, that was the, uh, what did I call it? Maybe in a completely different show. We've been doing a lot of recaps. I thought it was in episode three and four of this. Oh, no, it was a different show. Yeah, I thought it was too.
Starting point is 01:09:02 Oh, we were talking about Gigi on Shaz. We were talking about Beverly Hills. Oh, Jesus, I have no idea what we've been doing. A good time bros? Good time, bros. Yeah, that is what it was. That's what it was. Somebody asked that?
Starting point is 01:09:17 Nope. Oh, you asked. I asked that. Okay. What a rand- them call back you said yeah peg hole you know yeah only fans only fans sure but yeah i mean exceptional show i think it's an important show i think that a lot of people should watch it should you need to fast forward through the sex scenes if that's your vibe it that is what it is
Starting point is 01:09:37 but i think that this is something that can create a lot of understanding in the world and a lot of acceptance in the world and i think that this show and you can tell by the reception of the actors themselves they both are at 2.5 million followers each. They were nobody before this pretty much. So that tells you the impact that they've made that that many people are flocking to them. I think Scott Hunter has like 900,000 to a million. Kipp has close to 500,000.
Starting point is 01:10:05 So I think that shows you what this show has done and how it's connected. But yeah, I think we'll do one more episode about this. Yeah, we probably will, but the more important thing is we'll definitely be back for season two and we'll probably do it weekly. Damn straight, can't wait. But that's all I got.
Starting point is 01:10:21 You got anything else? Nope. Nope. Rob pros are out of here. For eight years, we've been asking the same question over and over again. How did this happen? My name's Mandy.
