Since we know we've been greenlit for a season two, what I desperately need in my life is more Scott and Kip desperately.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
I absolutely could not agree more.
This episode three was my favorite episode until episode five came out or rather until I watched episode five.
But episode three was such a great, just developmental go through fucking everything, crash and burn, build it back up, whatever you got to do.
It was so great, so emotional, it made me so happy, and it filled in all the gaps that I was missing with Shane and Aelia.
As there's a drive in a deep left field by Castellanos.
Oh, man, it's 8 o'clock.
And so that'll make it a...
I don't need the spotlight.
I shine just fine.
Hi, I'm Karma.
And yes, I am a bitch.
Brov Bros.
Good evening, everybody.
Welcome back to another episode of Brov Bros.
Your favorite show from the Bros for everybody.
For whoever wants to listen, I am your co-host, Steel Russell, joined as always by Scott Hunt Gooter.
What's up, dude?
That is such high praise.
I will take that all day.
Scott Hunter, my favorite character on this show.
I think Ailey is probably my favorite, but Scott's a close number two for me.
God, I was so glad that they did this this way, you know, because if we go back to episode two,
or, yeah, that was the Olympics episode.
Scott Hunter, we talked about it, stealing glances all day.
Just peeking.
Oh, yeah.
He's looking, I don't know if he's trying to make eye contact with Hollander.
I don't know if he's just trying to figure this whole thing out himself.
But the way they frame it, I actually had to check and make sure I was watching the right episode because it's the same scene.
But instead of zooming in on Shane's face as we did in episode two, camera shifts over to Scott Hunter's face.
And it's like, oh.
Now, I will be honest, it was spoiled.
because the thumbnail is Scott Hunter holding Kip in a kissing position.
But yeah, that's either here nor there.
Yeah, that obviously I didn't even see the thumbnail before I started episode two.
I think it was.
Once episode three popped up, I had already thought Scott was gay.
Like they have to introduce someone else.
There has to be a third party here.
This won't just be about Ily and Shane.
There's got to be somebody else for a little outside perspective.
I did not expect.
What do they call this a bottle episode?
Is that what that is?
where they do like a whole storyline of somebody else who's not like the yeah they call something like
whatever it's a bottle it's a bottle um anyway the way that they do this episode was perfect starting off
just panning the camera up to scott running through the streets of new york talking about this
and they have like this overarching thing which is very funny i actually saw the hockey podcast that covered
this they did the same thing i was doing the in the crease podcast talking about scott hunter is he too old
Is he ever going to win a cup?
What the hell?
Shut up.
You fucking leave Scott alone.
We're not doing this shit.
I don't want to do that.
Anytime anybody had a knock on Scott Hunter throughout this series,
either if it was Shane, Elya, whoever, you leave Scott alone.
He's working through some shit.
He's an old time event.
He's just trying to work his way through this.
He's in New York.
There's a lot of pressure there.
You back off of Scott.
He's trying to win a cup for his city.
He's trying to figure out his own personal thing.
He's not 100,000 years old.
He's probably like 34.
professional athletes look a lot older than they actually are because of all the wear and tear.
I would give them like mid-30s, but hockey players do, which is shocking to me that they play as long as they do.
The hits they take. The hits they take, the wear and tear on your legs.
I firmly believe that hockey players are the best all-around athletes in the world.
They're like incredible, incredible athletes.
But with Scott Hunter, he goes into a smoothie bar.
and there's a cute barista behind the counter.
He just gets done his run.
As you said, he was listening to the In The Crease podcast.
He goes up and you can tell immediately there's a little vibe here going on.
And Kip is questioning it.
You can tell even out of the gate.
He's like, is this guy flirting with me?
I don't know what's going on.
I, again, the way that they do things on this show is I love it because I just compared
to that of it, again, a quote unquote straight show of over sexualizing inanimate
objects sometimes. It's like, oh, you want a banana with it and he's holding the banana a certain
way. He puts it in the blender. I was like, that's fucking funny. This is the way that I take it.
Yeah, with a little extra banana in it. It's like, okay, we see what you're doing there, guys.
But the scene it ends and you get his friend, what's her name? I think it's Elena. There's he has two
friends who I was confusing, but I think it was Elena here. Okay, so he turns to Elena. She's just like
girl. I felt that too. Like, you're not crazy. There was something there. And he goes to the game. He
has been struggling of late as we heard on the podcast. And he goes off. I think he gets two goals.
And he got like four points total with a couple assists in there. So as any athlete does.
And this is very true. I would walk you through my superstitions, which you'd think I was fucking nuts.
He has to repeat the routine. Of course, this is a standard for an athlete. You have to go repeat the same
routine because that's probably why he played so well and he goes back to the smoothie bar and
lo and behold now we know who scott hunter is now oh yeah well that was that was one of my favorite
things was kip going out and i knew i was going to get it wrong it was maria maria is the one who
works there with him elena's the one who kind of talks some sense into him as we see later in the
episode but they go to the bar and it is a sports bar they do say it is a sports bar it's or
gay bar and they're sitting there watching hockey and
And everyone was wondering, what the fuck are we doing here?
Except Maria, who's privy to the whole situation.
Like, ah, he's got a crush.
We got to see who this Scott Hunter is.
We got to figure this one out.
And Scott has a great game.
I think he scores two goals.
They were talking about this.
He was having a hard time.
He wasn't scoring.
He wasn't doing enough.
He was looking old out there.
He was moving slow.
Is this the end for Scott Hunter?
Nope.
He scores a couple of goals.
Let's everybody know who the fuck he is.
And Kipp's there to watch it.
And Kip's dad, who I also fucking love, is a huge, huge admiral's
fan. And you can tell the whole thing about Kip's dad that I love the most is how much he loves
Kip. How much he talks to Kip. He just wants to hang out, watch some hockey, talk to Kip,
see what's going on in his life. Kip's trying to get in the grad school. There's a whole thing going
on there. But to watch the game right afterwards, the guy, he's not gay. Come on. Come on. He's just,
he wasn't flirting with me. I'm pretty sure he's straight as a hockey player. Come on now.
It's again, a credit to the character development on this show, right? We don't know Scott Hunter yet,
really other than a couple of passing moments where he said one minor's here and there we don't
know kip at all but they're able to do this in such a way that again you are enamored with these
people you're you're you're buying into this story you start to learn more about them and as straight
guys once again like watching this internal struggle that you see in a scott hunter right versus
somebody like a kip because now we have set this whole thing up differently than what we're
seeing between Rosenoff and Hollander.
Now you have an openly gay man who's into a closeted gay man.
Watching the struggles of trying to navigate this relationship respectfully on both sides
was very interesting from a straight perspective because you watch as the added pressure
from Kip where he's like, well, he's not out.
I can't ever expose him.
I wouldn't do that to him.
But at the same time, is this fair to myself?
Am I holding too much back?
And on the flip side, you have Scott who wants to be able to give more,
but these pressures from the world, right?
The hockey world, the world at large is holding him back from doing that.
But what I loved about Scott Hunter's character is that I kept expecting him to be a fuckboy,
right?
I kept expecting, I even turned to Dev at one point.
I was like, is this his move?
Because we have a night where Kip is doing a little extra work trying to make some extra
money.
So he's catering.
It's a fucking disaster.
He runs into Scott Hunter.
fucking a nut you double meat cute shit incredible a little a little meat cute scott was there he was just
i think it was i was a little confused because there were two gala which again low budget film it
looked exactly or low budget show it looked exactly the same when we get they shot them the same
and that's and that's his foundation a little bit later but in this way a little meat cute and then
he comes over and we've been having this discussion and he's there he's talking with other people
he's a little rattled because Scott's here again,
still not sure what's going on with Scott.
Is he gay?
Is he straight?
Is he buy?
Whatever it might be.
And he's flirting with him once again.
And then he goes to the extra step.
Like, hey, funny seeing you here.
Would this be a little out of line if I asked you if you wanted to grab some tacos later?
Maybe we could grab a couple tacos?
Ah, man.
Look at that line.
I just don't want to do it.
And then you had the added pressure of Scott who can't be seen as being potentially gay.
So he's looking at this like, holy shit.
a lot of people in line of this taco.
I'm going to be recognized.
Am I here with Kip?
You got to act like my friend.
He gets rattled quick.
Immediately.
Like,
I don't want to do this.
I also don't want to do this.
I also don't want this to end.
I want to have a nice night with Kip because I've been getting to know him on my smoothie
runs.
Why don't we just order it?
Come on.
Let's go back here.
Hey,
you want the full tour after or after the sex or before?
Definitely after.
After.
You already took your shirt off.
I'm already there, buddy.
Yeah.
By the way,
both of these guys, the physique is just
Oh, dude, Kip is fucking ripped.
I can see that right away.
As soon as we got to Kip's smoothie shop, like, here they find these hot foods.
It's the jaw.
That's actually one thing, which I sometimes have an issue with with shows in general.
If the cast is overly pretty, like, everybody's like super hot.
I'm like, all right, it takes some of the realism out of it.
I think Kip was the one where I'm like, all right, because obviously we're dealing with professional
hockey players. They're going to have great thoughts.
You get over to Kip and you're like, I know what that guy is.
I know what's going on here.
He's going to be a love interest.
This is what we're doing right here.
He's way too hot to be a barista.
What are we doing here?
Exactly.
This fucking Grecian god behind the counter is a, but come on now.
But they get back to the house like you said.
And you have that moment.
Obviously, they have sex.
And I was surprised at the intimacy of the sex because I'm thinking this is probably Scott
Hunter's move, right?
Like he's in the closet.
So you're still convinced he's a fuck boy.
Yeah, in this moment.
I'm like, he probably, you know, finds a cute guy,
strings him along a little bit, takes him back to his place,
they have sex, and then it's like, see you later.
That's what I'm thinking.
No.
And how dare I, by the way?
How dare I question, Scott Hunter?
Well, they set that up for us because we're so used to watching
Shane and Elya operate and not get that close
and not have these emotional breakdowns and not actually when a cuddle or kiss or do anything.
they're just there for the sex, or at least Ely is,
that then this happens and you're like,
oh, fuck.
And Kip's getting up and he's putting his shirt on.
He's getting ready to go.
Scott's like, hey, baby, come on back to bed.
Where are you going?
Let me hold your hands, bring you back in.
That's not what this is.
But like, oh, all right.
This is way different.
I'm rooting for them like crazy instantly.
Absolutely.
Just two episodes of dealing with Shane and Ealia,
trying to figure their shit out and getting mad that they're not talking.
Two seconds into Scott and Kip.
I'm like absolutely they're number one.
Put them right on the list.
Yeah, they,
they climb the chart instantly,
but that that's the point,
right?
That's the whole point of comparing these two relationships
because you could argue,
hey,
do you want to stay the night?
Given our experience thus far with,
all right,
we're done,
get the fuck out of here,
or I'm getting the fuck out of here.
This is basically like saying,
I love you.
Yeah.
Like it was such a,
yeah.
And like the next morning,
you know,
he wakes up,
And, you know, Scott's alone in bed.
And I'm like, oh, no.
And then you hear the blender.
I was like, wait a minute.
He's making a smoothie at the house.
That's so cute.
And he goes out there.
And obviously, you got Kip just grandstanding at that point.
The way he's leading on the counter, I'm like, all right, buddy, we get it.
You got 12 hours.
Relax.
But he goes out there.
And I like that they stay in character with stuff like this.
Like, look, everyone tells me I'm too intense.
I'm going to be too intense right now.
I want you to stay.
I want you to stay pretty much forever because I don't know what the fuck this is,
but I really like this and I really like you.
But it also sets up and I think they did this on purpose and stay here,
stay in the apartment.
Yeah.
Because he's saying,
I need to keep you here.
I can't,
I can't have you out there.
I can't.
Yeah,
we can't be going out to dinner dates.
We can't be going and doing all these different things that we want to be doing.
But we'll obviously have the arranged smoothie thing because I've been playing well and
I can just say that that's in my structure.
And I've got this worked into my daily routine.
now because that's how I play and that's how it works,
but we can still see each other while we do that.
And then obviously we have my apartment.
And it's still very much out of the public eye, very much,
you're going to do this.
And Kip doesn't know what this is.
Kip is still just so enamored that the whole thing just happened.
It was a whirlwind, you know, this professional hockey player,
this guy that everybody knows who's absolutely smoking is coming in here,
coming into my smoothie shop, and now we're hooking up,
but I don't know what this is.
I'm not even going to question it.
I'm not going to deal with any of this.
And that is where we get Elena walking into this.

The war is over and both sides lost.
Kingdoms were reduced to cinders and armies scattered like bones in the dust.
Now the survivors claw to what's left of a broken world, praying the darkness chooses
someone else tonight.
But in the shadow dark, the darkness always wins.
This is old school adventuring at its most cruel.
Your torch ticks down in real time.
And when that flame dies, something else rises to finish the job.
This is a brutal rules light nightmare with a story that emerges organically based on the
decisions that the characters make.

And man, it is so good to be back.

Because it goes on for far too long. It goes on for weeks, it seems. And she, one, important,
has a thing that she has to go to. It's a little foundation, which we don't know that it's Scott Hunter's
foundation. But it's a little gala. And I need you to be my date because, one, you're a good,
looking guy. I need you to be on my arm and then I'll get to branch out, but I need you here.
And I need you to get your tucks from your dads. Okay. Nope. We're not getting your tuck from your
dads because Scott's going to buy you a new tucks. That's how that's going to play out.
But it starts to develop and before you even know it, it's almost like he's, I don't want to
say a prisoner, but he kind of is like a prisoner in Scott's apartment. He's not allowed to go out.
He's not allowed to tell any of his friends. He's not allowed to sit down. His close friends understand.
Elaine is sitting there. Dude, what are you doing? You can't go out in the
the public with this guy. I know what's going on. Just tell me straight what the fuck's happening here.
And that's what happens. And he breaks down. And this whole thing just kind of breaks apart.
He's not seeing his dad for weeks. He's not going home at all. He's just staying at Scots.
He's hidden away. And it's brutal. Yeah. And I think that what they're trying to relay, especially to a
straight audience like you and I, is this extra dynamic that we're not familiar with, right?
understanding this whole part of it where it's a two-part or one, they're relaying that message,
too.
It's telling you that love isn't enough, right?
It is to a certain extent, but the beginning, how they started out.
He's enamored.
Look at this apartment.
Look at this life I'm currently living.
How the fuck did I get here?
This is amazing.
Grad school's kind of on the back burner right now.
He's still talking about it here and there, but that's not the priority.
Once the dust settles and like the sparkle of this, you know, hot fun.
new thing starts to settle down, he's looking around again.
He's going, I've got this amazing man that I love.
I can't tell anybody.
I can't even tell my father.
Now I'm lying to everybody I know in love, which is killing me.
And I want this to continue, but it's not fair to me.
And on the flip side, you've got Scott who wants this to work to the point that he's
willing to go out to that art gallery.
And in my head, I'm like, well, just act like that's your boy.
Like you guys are your friends and you're just going to an art gallery.
gallery, but that's,
that's ignorant, right?
Because there's so much more to it.
It's not that.
It's these feelings and emotions of being seen in public with a man that you're
currently intimate with and trying to go through that whole thing.
And when that all breaks down at the art gallery,
I'm like,
oh, fuck.
Like,
please be cool after this.
Like,
don't be a dick.
And he gets back and he apologizes immediately.
But that was the turning point.
That's when reality slapped them both in the face,
I think.
And this little fairy tale they've been on up until this point is gone.
And again, as two straight guys watching this, it's like, that's something we'll never understand fully, right?
Like that feeling of I have this amazing person in my life, but there's this big wall that cannot come down because of who he is and because of what business he's in.
It's not like a thing that they can go back and forth.
Like, oh, come on.
Like, Kip understands.
And I respect him for that.
Like he gets it.
But I don't even think that Scott gets it because the way that Scott, until he actually says the words out.
loud. I don't think he really understands
what the fuck's going on. And obviously
you know, Kip has been there for
what it seems like a few weeks.
Obviously, Scott has to go on the road at some point.
He gives him a pair of socks that
represent a smoothie that he's been drinking,
which is beautiful. And Scott's
wearing them underneath of his skates and everything
and taking pictures and sending it to Kip.
It's a hat trick. It's a
hat trick. And I don't think that Scott really
understands it until he says it. And he's
like, I just, I need you
to be cool about this.
until I can come out down the line when I retire.
It's just going to be a few years.
And once he says it's just going to be a few years, it's like, dude, come on.
The reality sets me.
You know that's fucking ridiculous.
And that's when reality sets in.
And that's when Kip is like, I can't do this anymore.
I've got my birthday.
I really want you to come.
He can't come to his birthday because he can't be seen.
It's like, look, it's a sports bar.
It's a sports bar, but it's a gay bar.
I don't really, all my friends are going to be there.
Scott's like I can't do that.
I just can't come out.
It's not going to work.
It's just not how this is going to play out for me.
And it's not going to work well with my hockey.
So I can't really do that.
That's where the dissolve happens.
And that was really sad to watch too,
because they clearly both love each other,
but they clearly can't do this.
And Kip really wants him to do it,
but he's not going to ask him outright.
Just do it.
You have to do this.
If you really love me, you would do it.
We don't see any of those ultimatums.
It's just very clear that they can't do this right now.
And that's where they have to part ways.
Yeah, and I think that the lack of ultimatum is important, right?
because from what we know about the LGBTQIA community is you don't out people.
Like that's not your business to share with other people.
So him,
him allowing for Scott to have this journey on his own timeline is a huge testament to Kip because he's giving up.
And that's why they show the apartment.
They show the life.
They show what they're doing.
It's like you're,
he has to give up all of this,
this beautiful relationship because of the pressures of the quote unquote social norm.
And that fucking stinks.
And watching Scott.
outside of the bar.
I was literally saying, I just go in, just go in, go in that bar.
But they do such a good job of laying the whole thing out.
It's like you understand one episode.
Yeah, I know.
In one fucking episode, they were able to just completely speed run through this and still
somehow keep all of the emotions so tangible that you can really feel it the whole time.
And the episode ending with Scott still wearing his banana socks as he goes through
this season is wild.
and obviously it just brings us right back into it.
It's like, wow, that's the other side of this.
We've got Aaliyah and Shane who we're going to get back into in episode four,
and then we've got this going on at the same time.
And it's still all so secretive that they don't even know what's going on within each other.
Yeah.
And I mean, that takes us pretty much into episode four on that little cliffhanger of,
are they done, right?
Will this ever come back?
I was so fucking mad that they weren't in episode four.
I was like, come on.
Oh, I agree.
I was like, you just.
built the world with Ilya and Shane in the first two episodes and then gave us everything
we ever wanted with Ilya and Shane and then took it away from both Scott and Kipp and
us the audience.
You need to find a way to integrate Scott Hunter and Kip back into this.
I need to know what's going on with them because I know how this show's working and
you're just fucking jumping ears, which you goddamn do once again because we jump right
back into Ilya and Shane still sexting, still meeting up whatever the hell they can.
and then we speed run.
And then we go,
Elia wins a fucking Stanley Cup.
Well,
they don't call it.
Shane wins first.
Elia wins second.
Shane wins first.
Shane wins back to back.
Yeah.
That's hard to do in the NHL or the NHL or the MLH,
whatever the hell we're going to call this.
And then we go into the next year and it's 2016.
And Elia wins.
It's like,
God damn,
can we slow down for a second?
But I,
again,
I was annoyed by them speed running.
I was annoyed by Ilya and Shane,
not talking about their goddamn emotions.
that was really like wearing fit on me.
But then we just speed through.
And again, watching the whole season, getting back to it, it's like, no, that was again
for effect.
We're still doing the same thing.
Ilya and Shane are still the exact same place for six years now.
We're going on to the seventh year.
And we're finally maybe having a little bit of a breakthrough because Ilya invites
Shane over.
Come on over to my house right outside of Boston.
It's a beautiful place.
We'll just have ourselves some fun.
We'll relax.
Everything's going to be okay.
Things are going to get a little emotional here.
they sure do because first of all and this just shows you where Shane's still at even after all this time
and I would imagine that the distance has a lot to do with the the slow timeline and I would imagine
that but yeah he gets over to Ilya's house and it's already it's different right like we at home
are like oh this is different because he got invited over it has ilia has ginger rail for him he's got
all of this weird food that he eats and shit.
The ginger ale thing is always so funny
because even when he,
when Shane goes over to Hayden's,
when they're watching Elia win the Stanley Cup that year,
and everyone's like,
oh, here's your fucking ginger ale.
Everybody else is drinking beer.
It's just so funny to watch that,
but everybody knows him.
And that's the parallel that you draw immediately.
He goes over to his best friend's house,
his teammates house,
who has these kids who's got the wife
and they're trying to set them up and everything along the line
as we go through this season.
He's got all of these,
things for Shane.
We go to Elia's.
Elia is doing those things.
And that's the, that's the obstruction that we have.
We're not having the emotional scenes within the relationship.
And yet you can still see Elia pays attention.
He still cares about all of these things.
Those little subtle nods in this scene specifically is a huge dynamic shift.
And that was the point because they wanted to lay out like, we've been building this for
six years.
And obviously, we know that there's a lot of feelings and emotions here, but we're still
watching these guys battle, but it's a different battle, which is also super interesting. Shane's still
battling with who, who am I? Right. Who the fuck am I in this world? I have no idea. I don't even
know if I'm gay. Am I by? I don't know. I'll just wrestling with feelings and emotions. Like,
how do I make sense of this? And is it even feasible given Russia and my father and Alexi,
who seems to know, by the way, he's made a few comments here and there.
dropping a couple slurs.
So I think that.
Oh, yeah.
He definitely knows.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But watching this scene play out because obviously it gets hot and heavy immediately,
you know, they start making.
He's like before, we get another before and after.
And that's what I really picked up on because he asks and, and he doesn't ask,
Ilya just says after after.
And they start having sex.
To do that immediately after the scene we just watched or the,
the episode we just watched where Scott Hunter says before or after.
Scott and Kip
is showing those two
or showing us at home what this could be
right fast forward 10 years
this is where they could get if these two
fuckers could figure this shit out now
and understand what's going on
granted it's not their fault like the pressures
from the outside world are insane so I get it
but that's what it's doing so even that little hint
right there of after after I'm like okay
so we're going down the same general time
line, so to speak, and then they have sex.
It's already, again, different, right?
More intimate.
More intimate.
And they get to the couch afterwards.
And I don't know if it was this scene or if it's later in episode five.
I think it was this one.
We don't see them have sex.
That's very important.
No, yeah, they completely skip it.
Yeah, they do completely skip it in the scene from episode four.
They skip the whole thing.
And like you said, it already feels different.
You know, we're moving more into, and it's very slow again,
six years in, we're moving more into
the relationship territory where
Elia has all the food and he's like, no,
no, don't worry, like I'll take care of everything.
Here's your ginger ale. And they're sitting down.
And then that's when they, again,
it kind of develops back into a sexual tension.
It's a little sexual relationship.
But it's different and it's very different
when Elia says Shane instead of
Hollister. And that's enough
to send Shane into a fucking
frenzy where it was
very heavy. What the fuck's going on?
I can't get a read on this. It's been
six years in, every time I try to talk about anything personal with you, you shut it down.
But that was enough because you've been calling me Hollander for six years that it's like,
you feel that something's different.
I've been feeling something different, but now you're feeling it too.
What the fuck are we supposed to do about this?
And again, Ilya Downplays it.
Nothing's different.
What's the deal?
Just come back and sit down.
I don't understand why you're freaking out.
This was enough for Shane to go into a frenzy and just straight up fucking leave.

Yeah. And I think when you watch the buildup in that scene, like what that, when they were fooling around,
like what that was and why it was important not only the shame part just the yearning for me like
shame like laying on his shoulder and you just like it's almost instinctive right he just feels this
this pole and they have that very intimate moment and he drops the shame and he fuck he does full
blown panic and he bounces out of there rosanoff is also trying to figure out what he's doing what's
going on but i think that's the moment because
they talk about the girls, right?
He talks about Svetlana and the fact that he likes to a couple of girls every now and then.
I think that was a big moment for Shane to be like, okay, he's not gay.
Am I gay?
I don't know what I am.
And I don't know if I can figure that out.
And I think that was a big part.
I don't know if he could have figured that out with Rosenoff.
And I think that was a big important part because then we get Rose enter the scene.
Yeah, we go from Rosenoff to Rove.
we go from Rosanoff to Rose
which is very funny
which I didn't know as now
until that was just said
very plainly
but yeah that's very funny too
and I also just love like the fucking
let's just like slide this in here
it's a big superhero movie
she's playing
yeah it's X squad
and she's playing a shape shifter
I think her boss
is metal man
and they just do all of these things
And it's very funny too.
And obviously we get a little breakdown where Shane is a huge fan of hers.
He's a huge fan of everything.
He watches a lot of movies on his flights.
So he knows her whole backstory.
He ends up drinking a little bit, which is very out of the ordinary for Shane.
He goes out to a bar.
He's got a game the next day.
I'm yelling at him.
You've got a game the next day, buddy.
You better fucking straighten up.
I don't want you to go too crazy, not knowing that he's going to meet Rose,
which was a huge step for him to sit down and talk to her because all of a sudden,
the paparazzi are all over.
And what's going on here?
We've got Rose out here with Hollander.
Are they dating?
It was Travis Kelsey Taylor Swift is what they were.
Yeah, it's the it couple.
Yeah.
And this is,
this is huge for his character and his journey in this whole thing.
This is the am I gay part, right?
And he finds that he has a connection with Rose.
And you can't deny that.
They're vibed in the bar.
So obviously it starts to to progress a little bit,
not to mention because of how he lives.
left Rosenov's like they're not talking they're completely out from each other so this whole thing
is his journey to subconsciously by the way figure out what the fuck's going on with himself and you
watch this whole thing kind of blossom Rosenoff catches wind he sees him on TV he's now feeling
a certain way I was actually kind of stoked for Shane because I'm like this is a little get back
you know because Rosanoff's been stringing you along for four or five years.
And you don't know what's going on.
The other thing that they don't really talk about is how does Shane feel when he's,
you know, obviously got this situation ship going on.
But then he goes on Twitter and he sees pictures of Rosenoff with this girl down of Miami
or this girl over in Texas somewhere, L.A. or whatever it might be.
Now it's a little bit of a get back.
And you see it just eating away at Rosie.
He's sitting on his couch watching that fucking the architecture documentary about the
cottage, which the cottage is very important.
That's not a cottage, by the way.
That's a fucking house.
Cottage implies small and quaint.
Yeah.
Well, you haven't watched episode six yet, so I'm not going to give anything away.
But yeah, so him watching that and just fuming, watching this whole thing, he's like,
so fucking boring.
I can't believe how boring this guy is.
And he's not talking to him.
Neither of them are exchanging.
This is the first time in six years that they're not weirdly texting each other.
They're not checking in and doing anything.
And it's really just Shane just trying to.
feel this whole thing out. And I think the funniest part is, obviously they have a game.
Obviously, they're playing against each other. They're out in Montreal. They're going to go to a
club afterwards. I think Collander, I think the Metro is just crushed Rosie's team. And they go to
no, no, no, no. It was like a one nothing. The commentator was a weird game. How it was such a bad game.
I guess one goal is enough to win. That's the only part I've really, that pulled me out of it.
Yeah. Because nobody would say that.
Yeah, I know that, but like after a win, the home team announcer is not going to be like, I guess a one.
No, they'd be like, oh, wins a win.
That pissed me off.
But that's so not important.
That's fair.
But going to the club, I thought this, I mean, this was such a fun fucking scene.
But one thing I wanted to point out, which was hilarious, especially the way episode five plans out, we've got Rose and Miles sitting there with Shane at the club.
Very weird place for Shane to be, but he's still feeling himself out, just trying to figure out what he wants to do.
when they go to dance,
he's in a sandwich.
He's in an absolute sandwich.
And I'm like,
we just watched Scott Hunter
very hyper aware of what's going on.
And they are very aware of like how things are going to be perceived.
He's dancing with Rose.
But Miles is like right up against him.
I know.
And I'm like,
do you not realize this like and what this might look like?
Are you not?
Maybe he's not.
Because he didn't even know that Ely was there yet.
He's just out there dancing with the two of them.
Like he got to have some awareness.
That's what we're trying to do.
That was actually frustrating for me because I thought that was a weird,
weird choice from the producers.
I'm like,
wait,
this takes away from a lot of the buildup if he's just going to be in public with Miles
kissing on his neck and the grinding up on him.
I don't have,
I don't could care less about that part,
but as far as the storyline,
it's like this,
this guy is doing everything in his power to the point that he's getting texts from
Lily that nobody knows who.
Lily is and he's telling Hayden it's just a friend it's just that's the level of hiding that
they're doing to do that in the club I was like guys you're you're taken away from like the
overarching message here of like how difficult this is because that wouldn't Shane wouldn't
have allowed that or what I think they were trying to do and I think that it didn't land the way
they wanted it to do was one he's so in his head he's not aware because he's so frazzled about
Rosie and at the same time I think maybe because he's a little drunk he's in that scene he's not
thinking quite clearly and he's attracted to men so maybe just like subconsciously is like this feels
good right so it's yeah I think it was yeah I don't maybe we're reading too far into it but I still
think even the way it pulls out of the show when he did that it does yeah and I think it's I think
what it is is supposed to be just glaringly symbolic of which side are you going to go are you going to
go with Miles or you can go with Rose.
And I think that's what it was supposed to be.
But like you said, it doesn't make any sense.
I think if you put that after he sees Ealia,
like if he knows Ely is at that club and he understands
and he sees Elya dancing with a girl and he's like,
you know what I can do that too?
And then all of a sudden he's dancing with Miles and Rose.
He's not aware of what's going on.
He's just locked in on Eelia.
That would make more sense.
I think the placement was a little bit wonky.
But the use of music here was fucking awesome because all the things she said is such a great
song and then to throw in a weird little
dubstep remix at the end, which fucking
rocked while the two of them are just
locking eyes. One,
two things I want to talk about here.
When they're locking eyes and they're just staring at
each other, if you were
a fly on the wall or you were just a patron
at that club and you're looking over and you're like, that's Shane
Hollander and Ilya Rosentoff just staring
each other down. This is weird.
Why is, you're in Canada. Everybody
loves hockey. That's like fucking football up there.
Again, that's like Peyton Manning and
Tom Brady being at a club and they're
locking eyes in the middle of the club.
That would be bizarre.
You might want to look around and be like,
do you guys fucking seeing this?
I would literally be like,
those guys are fucking.
Yeah, absolutely.
But the other part of that that I thought was going to happen,
I thought they were going to get into a fight.
I thought there was going to be a brawl.
I thought that the two teams were going to come together
because I assume there were some Metro's guys there.
And then obviously Ilius team was on the other side
and there was a couple of guys there.
I thought they were going to get into a fight.
And then it was going to be a whole thing where it's like,
you believe this?
These guys fucking hate each other.
They're fighting at the club after their game.
And they're getting their teammates involved.
And then suspensions were going to come through.
I thought that would have been like a funny little spiral moment.
Like, oh, things are getting really weird in here.
But instead, it was just a good scene of the two of them like, what the fuck?
What are we doing here?
Yeah.
Yeah.
And Rosenoff, I believe, takes that girl home.
And I want to believe that because it makes the ending scene that much more important.
And again, these sex scenes are intentional, right?
They carry a message, not just random.
So that's what I noticed in this moment, assuming that Rosie took a girl home.
Well, I don't know.
I don't think that he took that girl home because he was in the shower by himself later.
And that's when they do the side by side where Shane is back with Rose and they're having sex.
But all he's thinking about is Eilia and all the encounters that they've had, not only the encounters,
but also the nice parts, the little flirty times, the little fun times that they had.
So he's thinking about everything together with Elya.
And then they cross over to Elya, who's in the shower alone, but also thinking about.
Shane. So I think this was the big climax of Shane realizing all he's going to think about is
Elia. Elia is over there in the shower thinking only about Shane. And it's like, okay, can we just
come together, guys? Can we just have a come to Jesus moment here? But that's why I think that
he did take that girl home. And I think that was indicative of she wasn't enough. Yeah.
So he's in the shower. Or he can catch her out. Yeah. Well, it doesn't, like, either
of those perhaps. But that's my point is like not, not that she's not enough to like make him
finish. Not like that. It was more like there wasn't enough of a connection there for him. And so
he had to take care of it after the fact, even if he did finish with her. That's kind of irrelevant.
The point being that this moment symbolizes like you said, you are too ingratiated into each other's
lives. You love each other too much. And this is going to be an ever present thing. And it's also very
important as we know later on with the uh the rose storyline what this indicates as well but
yeah i mean that ends episode four and i i don't know man it's just i'm about to go watch episode
six i'm really excited uh dev and i are going to watch it but this whole show has been just
such a great production like on all ends i'm just i'm very impressed and i think the funniest thing to me
I read, you know, obviously there's a lot of comments online and some of them are not very nice.
The funniest one to me by far was someone commented like, oh, what?
Like all hockey players are gay?
No.
But if we want to play the statistics game, three hockey players on three separate teams being gay isn't even close to the actual number of probably gay hockey players in the NHL.
These idiots are up in arms because they're saying like, oh, this isn't.
hockey this. Now it's like, this is all sports. This is the entire world. And that's what this whole
thing is highlighting. That's why they did it with a sport like the NHL, a highly masculine sport,
lots of testosterone to say just that. This is common. This is actually a true story in so many
ways because, yes, there's probably a lot of closeted gay men across the board in professional
sports. And it gives a lot more credit for a guy like Carl Nassib, who plays for the Cardinals.
the NFL and he is one of the very few openly gay football players in the history of the NFL,
not just an active player, but just in professional sports overall. This is such a stigma for some
reason that they cannot get past. So by highlighting it in the sports world specifically and then
seeing reactions from idiots online like, oh, hockey players are gay, there is way more gay players
in all of sports than they are showing in this TV show. And that's the point, Dickheads. It's
highlighting the fact that this is very common and were there not all these stigmas and social
pressures around these men that they would feel more comfortable coming out well the big glaring
issue here is you're going to deprive yourself of one of the best shows and the best romance
stories because you're a homophob exactly go away just go away bye like it's the love story
of our generation you thought it was jack and rose on the titanic and nah it's rosin off and
under baby.
But we will be back tomorrow with our final recap, episodes five and six,
episode five, that might be its own episode.
I have no idea.
What a remarkable episode of television.
That's on par with the Last of Us episode three.

Oh, yeah.
Yeah, it's same vibes.
So stoked to talk about that.
And we will field some questions tomorrow from you guys as well.
So yeah.

Nope.
