Bros & Shows - Swampy Sandwiches and The Obvious Winners (Love Island US S8 Finale)

Episode Date: July 14, 2026

What's up bros? We all made it through one of the weirdest, lackluster seasons of Love Island and while it was mostly boring, it was also not good. Surprisingly, we're not super down on the show as we... work through potential changes moving into next Summer as well as finalizing all of the very simple storylines we went through over the last few weeks. Starting point is 00:00:00 Well, we did it. We got through another year of Love Island, another slog through for the summer. And, you know, I'm excited for next season. Just to see what happens. See what all the people online talking about different things they hated about this season, that they're going to change and ultimately screw up probably. But yeah, I can understand that.
Starting point is 00:00:23 I also think we were slightly wrong because the family episode was electric. Yeah. The rest of it could have been. been an email. Honestly, you could have just sent out like an Instagram post and we would have been fine. As there's a drive in a deep left field by Castellanos, it will be a... Oh man, it's 8 o'clock. And so that'll make it a...
Starting point is 00:00:39 I don't need the spotlight. I shine just fine. Hi, I'm karma. And yes, I am a bitch. Brov Bros. Good evening, everybody. Welcome back to another episode of Bravo Bros. Your favorite podcast from The Bros. For everybody, for whoever wants to listen.
Starting point is 00:01:00 I'm your co-host. Steel Russell. joined as always by the one and only for the last time this year. Villa Goots. What's up, dude? It is the last time this year. I know that a lot of people are probably going to point out that there is a reunion in like 60 days. We don't do that. We're no, we did it last year.
Starting point is 00:01:19 Didn't we? I think we covered the reunion and we were like, I don't know why we're doing it. It was like a 20 minute episode. That's what it was. We did it. And we're like, we're never doing this again. Yeah. So I'm glad we're on the same page to start off now.
Starting point is 00:01:30 We obviously have 45 days to decide. because they decided to put the, I guess they have to let the cast members who have been there for six weeks, like go home and try to figure out life again, maybe try to catch up on their DMs like Meredith Marks. Yeah, not a great season by any stretch of the imagination. I got really pissed off because in the beginning of the finale,
Starting point is 00:01:53 Ian says while he's recapping the whole season, there were bombshells and more bombshells. There was five bombshells, tops. Total. Like, not even really, because game. was supposed to be on the OG crew, but a girl got kicked off because she was racist. So Gabe got moved to the first bombshell slot.
Starting point is 00:02:09 So technically there were four bombshells this year. Wait, that's real. Oh, yeah, that's real. That was supposed to happen. That changes everything. Well, we knew about that a while ago. It's fucking wonky. There's too many wonky things going on.
Starting point is 00:02:21 We talked about it, though. We never talked about Gabe. I don't do that. I think you thought that because it was kind of lumped in with a lot of things. I think you thought it was one of the rumors that was like unsubstantiated. when people were trying to convince everybody else that like Anaya, K, Kada, they all said racist things coming. And like none of it actually happened.
Starting point is 00:02:39 It was just people making shit up. No, Kada punched somebody in the face for saying. Correct. Yeah. Yes, correct. That did come through the grapevine. Not the gay grapevine, but the grapevine. Yeah, the game thing was, it was confirmed a while ago.
Starting point is 00:02:54 I guess people forgot or missed it. And then this past weekend when people were showing like, oh, yeah, this was my favorite part of the season. and it was just like the cast photo. Every other comment was like, wait, why is Gabe in this cast photo? Because it was all the OGs that came in first. That's what it was. They just ended up photoshopping the girl.
Starting point is 00:03:10 I don't remember her name anymore. I'm going to say Ulyssa because I know Ulysses got kicked out last year. But yeah, so Gabe was supposed to be in it. So technically there were four bombshells. That's it. And then Kasa. Well, that also changes a lot. Like if Gabe is there from day one as he was supposed to be,
Starting point is 00:03:26 I don't know if Gabe goes home. If Gabe doesn't go home, we have a completely different villa. We have a different villa. of a different casa. He'd still be lost. This is my point. He'd still be lustful. He'd be full of lust.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Yeah, but his lust would be deemed more, uh, what's the word? Original. That original recipe. I still don't understand how Gabe got fucking shoehorned into being the lustful one. But whatever. The funny thing is I was fine with Gabe going home because I thought it was a nice, like, fun wrinkle that no one really saw coming. It's like, okay, yeah, let's get Liberty Caleb.
Starting point is 00:03:57 That makes sense. And instead they, I thought made the right move. It's just their rationale after Gabe went home kind of set the entire cast and the entire show in a very weird direction where it didn't really make any sense. And that's what I think the big issue, and I get why, but now it's becoming a problem. The core four shit because of season six where they're like, oh, we've got four girls that are really cool and we're going to vote for them no matter what. Their connections suck. Like, yeah, Nye and Carl might be fine. Trinity and Bryce, who knows, that'll probably end up working out.
Starting point is 00:04:28 I'm going to say, but again, I'm not going to check in because I don't care. about Love Island people after they leave the villa. Melody and Sincere are going to end, like, within a week or two, then get back together and then end again. That doesn't matter. But everybody was voting for Melanie because they like Melanie, and I get that. The name of the game is connections. And the people
Starting point is 00:04:45 that made it to the end didn't have the strongest connections. You booted people out. Are you shitting me? Yeah, Casey and TT probably had the best connection. The Kada and Zach had no business being there. And I, there's been rumors that Zach was a producer plant. And I never buy into that shit.
Starting point is 00:05:01 until they make the final. Why are they there? Even the family, Kata's family and Zach's family. They're both like, yeah, she likes you. Like, that's what they said. You guys are cute.
Starting point is 00:05:12 Zach's, or sorry, Katie's family, all they said was like, oh, he seems to make you happy. They didn't say, oh, my God,
Starting point is 00:05:18 he's such a great guy. Like, oh, he treats you so well. They said, you seem to be happy. He seems to make you laugh. That's them saying, okay,
Starting point is 00:05:26 we're fine with it if you're fine with it. And they make the finale after being in the bottom two. Casey and T. T, you may not like Casey. Like, I know that he said some weird shit, and I agree with you. Like, had he not said the worthy comment and about 10 other things along the way, different conversation.
Starting point is 00:05:42 He did say that stuff. But if we're going based on connection, right, that's what the game is. Zach and Kada don't make the final. That was ludicrous. They had no business being there. I didn't want to see them there. I like Kada. Zach sucks.
Starting point is 00:05:57 That dude's a fucking bummer. He's a total zero. the fact that he gets so amped up tells you exactly why he's there. Everybody else, when he got Lizzo and all these other irrelevant people that I could give two shit. That was the best. No, because again, like the entire finale was just hot garbage. I don't care. They weren't even like last year's dates were funny.
Starting point is 00:06:21 I mean, you forced people who had no connection. That shit was great. You force people who broke it off to still go on a date. That was funny to watch. this year I'm like I don't fucking care you're gonna put Zach and Kada as Charlie says you put them in front of a swamp which it did look swampy out there
Starting point is 00:06:36 and they get like weird turkey and cheese sandwiches like that didn't look fun like what are we doing I didn't understand any of that episode until we get to them all sitting down and watching people and I'm like all right that's cool Lizzo what are you doing here Lizzo was just the first one if they had started
Starting point is 00:06:53 with like Demi Levato I would have been like what the fuck's going on here Kesha was cool love Kesha uh, Sierra came out of fucking nowhere. Jordan, yeah, Jordan Sparks is everywhere. Every time that you,
Starting point is 00:07:04 like, Lizzo and Jordan Sparks, I think of the, like, enemy number one and two for a show that you were watching. You're like, what are you doing here? How did you pop up?
Starting point is 00:07:12 I watched the show too. No way. I love somber coming in who like, I only know because he has a couple of songs that went like platinum on TikTok. Like that's kind of what it is. They didn't care about somber. Because I love, yeah,
Starting point is 00:07:26 that one. Yeah, I love, that's Alex Warren, isn't it? no it was also on there oh well whatever um but yeah i just i love when they do that and then somber's like yeah i i had a really great time like listening to my music while you guys are in the villa they're not listening to your music we've heard this before they don't play music during those challenges
Starting point is 00:07:44 my heart rate didn't even get up there was no heart rate challenge i'm just getting mad again and instead they just plant this disgusting fucking challenge at the end just to piss us all oh yeah i forgot about that i think i blocked it out because it was so gross i skipped through the entire thing. I'm not watching that. Well, I watched it with Dev and Dev watches every second of every episode. So we couldn't fast forward through any of it. But what I love the rationale
Starting point is 00:08:08 there. Was she like, what if something happens? Like we got to watch. She did go to fast forward it. No shit. When they were all going to sit down afterwards and they had like the how they met like that little montage. She started to fast forward right before that. Then it was like, oh well, I want to see how
Starting point is 00:08:24 they met again. And then she rewowed to where she had fast forward from. I was like, oh, we were so close but that's all right like i i want to enjoy the finale and we got a comment today from so i love these are my favorite comments that we get if you don't like the show you don't have to watch we do this is our job correct but i want to watch it anyway my only thing is and we get so impassioned about this and emboldened because like we want this shit to be good love island when it's good is one of the greatest cultural experiences on the planet because we all share in it It's such a wide ranging thing.
Starting point is 00:08:59 So many people watch it. And when you get really invested, even last year, like it wasn't the best season, but it's almost like you enter an alternate reality for six weeks where like every night you have to watch and then you talk about it all day. You go online. Then you do it again. Then you get a Wednesday, Saturday break or you watch after son. Like it's a whole thing.
Starting point is 00:09:19 And I think we talked about this a couple weeks ago. I didn't have that this seat. Like I never got pulled in. So then you get to the finale. And I'm like, okay, like, yeah, Zach or sorry, Brinity, Brinity. Yeah, why you say that? Brinity. They're cute.
Starting point is 00:09:34 Like, I like them a lot. I liked them all season. I liked watching their story. That was fun. But other than that, in the final four, I'm not invested in anybody. And that's a shame because I want to be invested. I want to have that feeling like I did last year where I'm like, oh, my God, I live and die by whatever happens on this show.
Starting point is 00:09:52 And this year just didn't hit that mark. I think it's funny, too, because we've definitely done more. episodes of Love Island this season than we did last year. I feel still pretty refreshed. Last year, I think we were dead. We were done. But it was really funny. I agree with you.
Starting point is 00:10:07 I never really got connected. I also feel like it's in that weird gray zone where it both went too fast and too slow where I'm like, oh, yeah, wait, six and a half weeks ago, this thing started. It hasn't really been six and a half weeks. And then when you start thinking about it and like going back to certain times, you're like, oh, fuck, like this episode sucks. This is so long. This is boring.
Starting point is 00:10:27 There's still three more this week. I wonder what they're going to do. There's no bombshells. So I feel like each individual episode was an absolute slog through. And then when I'm looking back now, I'm like, wow, that was a really quick six and a half weeks. But I think it's because I wasn't invested. I think it's because I really didn't care outside of a few funny moments. Other than that, it really didn't have the same cultural impact.
Starting point is 00:10:47 And obviously, if you go online, you go on threads or Twitter, you're looking through. It's just a bunch of fucking toxic fans doing weird shit. I don't even care about that this year because it was. wasn't even funny. Like none of it's actually original. None of it's good. Like there's no good jokes or chat GPT. Once Corbyn was gone, there was no humor left in the show. I told you. I told you. He was holding the show down. I, I, I misunderstood. In the beginning, I thought you were actually a good guy. But here you were just saying he's funny and he's going to be entertaining, which I can tell me what I thought. You were right about that. I tell you what I thought. I'm telling you what I thought. You thought that. No, I know, but you still got it wrong though. Because you're saying, oh, are you telling me what I thought. I thought. I thought. I thought. I thought. I thought. I thought. I thought. I was. I was. I was. I thought. I thought. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I I know. Saying was, you can't tell me how I think. You can't tell me what you think I thought. Sure, I can.
Starting point is 00:11:33 Because what I was trying to say is like, you're saying, I didn't think that Corbyn was a good dude. I never said that. I think he was a good dude. I think that Corbyn was the most. Probably. But I do think in the grand scheme of the show, other than Bryce, Bryce just as an outlier. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:51 So anything we comment on, Bryce is on the outside of it, which is a good thing because Bryce is a stand-up dude, love him. I think Corbyn genuinely was the most mature guy out of the rest of the dudes. Honestly. The original, maybe. I mean, he's not more mature than Carl. Oh, no, Carl, yeah, okay. But Carl's not liar too.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Again, like Carl and Bryce's own category. When it comes to all the dumbasses, I do think Corbyn, the 21-year-old had a better head on his shoulders than a lot of the cast because at the very least, he owned his shit. the only shady thing he did was kiss Kenzie in the, uh, the bedroom and didn't tell you. And that was her idea. But other than that, like he really was pretty straightforward and took accountability.
Starting point is 00:12:37 I have no issues with Corbyn. Watching him and Parmita do whatever the fuck they're doing right now is a delight. That is more entertaining in the finale. Yeah. Watching them in the back, I didn't even realize it was going on and that it had clicked over there after some, but watching that, the two of them in the backseat of the car.
Starting point is 00:12:53 And he's just like, yeah, I don't fucking like, I don't think there's anything here. Like, we're not doing anything after all this. She's like, what do you mean? Like what? And then she goes on a very weird spiel about banging rappers and athletes. And basketball players. You think this is going to work?
Starting point is 00:13:08 This is going to get them. It's like, no, I don't want to get away for me. He's like, yeah, I've taken a lot of people like you. I don't care. The next morning was even funnier because he's like, yeah, I think, you know, tensions were just running a little high. Like, we just got out of the villa. I take back some of the things I said.
Starting point is 00:13:23 and she's like, okay, it's all right. But they kept like flipping around while they're looking at their phones. If you look closely, because I noticed it right away, Parmita starts off looking normal and then she starts going through her phone and then they clip back to whatever Corbyn was looking at. Her hair is like rattled. Like she must have been like digging in her hair like going like this because she saw something. I would love to have a psychologist like break down this show from start to finish
Starting point is 00:13:51 and then be in contact with, say, six of the Islanders in the next month and a half after the show. Yeah. And just have like a psychological, what's the word profile and break down what this show in that environment does to the human mind over that course of time. They'd have to have a control for the experiment. So they'd have to be with them like a month and a half prior to.
Starting point is 00:14:18 Yeah. And then also after. I see where you're getting at. The funny thing is, if that were like a podcast, unless it was on my TV screen and I had to watch it, I would never watch it and seek it out. There probably would be a podcast about it. So if you go do that, if somebody already does that, which a lot of times when we bring these things up, we're like, oh, that's a really good idea. And then somebody will DM us and be like, oh, that already exists. And we're like, oh, okay, cool.
Starting point is 00:14:40 And then you can listen. Yeah, then you can listen and then you can report back to us because I am not seeking that out. No, I think that'd be entertaining. But as far as this recap goes, you guys know, we'd jump. around a lot. Family day and the finale is pretty much all we're focused on. And again, like, it's all over. So it kind of loses some of the umph. But what I will say when we're at Family Day, again, my problem with Zach and Kada being in the final was in part because they're boring. Like, it's boring to watch Zach do what he does. He does that same thing the entire
Starting point is 00:15:17 season where they're going great. Everything's cool. They have a really romantic moment. They go and boink in the hideaway. Then he says some off color shit. Like, if another bum show walks in, it's like, why? Why are you doing that? And the family catches on to that. So we're sitting there watching those two go and meet the family. And it was the most middle of the road.
Starting point is 00:15:37 Like, if you're cool, I'm cool response from Cada's family. And it gets spun. And we've watched Cada do this with stuff that Zach has said. So it's kind of interesting. We've watched her kind of spin it to even be more positive than it actually was. Yeah. Now we do that with her family. But as far as like all of the family visits go,
Starting point is 00:15:56 and then we'll talk, we'll save Sincere and Melanie for the end because we got a Philly shout out there from that dude. That was fucking incredible. Well, I was wrong, actually. So that's, I think that's his stepdad. Everybody online was saying it was a stepdad that was doing that.
Starting point is 00:16:09 That was a Philly dude. He was definitely a Philly dude. Now, he could just be close, but I do remember from like the first or second episode, sincere said, you know, my dad, you know, it's that whole Northeast thing. He was talking about Northeast Philly, not Northeast U.S.
Starting point is 00:16:21 A lot of people were taking that. He was talking about Northeast Philly, which hits close to home for me and very funny. But that guy when he walked in, he didn't have the full on Northeast Philly accent, but I thought it was. And then somebody had pointed out that it was a stepdad. He doesn't really have, because I was confused. He had said, I don't really have that good of a relationship with my dad at all. I don't see him. You know, I saw him a couple years ago.
Starting point is 00:16:41 I saw him like six months ago and that's pretty much it. And then this guy walks in. I'm like, damn, I didn't think you were close to your dad, really just going to have this dude in the villa. So I think somebody said it was a stepdad, but still. still Philly Centric. So I'm going to take it. I'll take Philly Cedric. And just like the stuff he was saying just very much reminded me of somebody from Philly.
Starting point is 00:17:00 So that was kind of fun. But like as far as Family Day goes, was there any surprises where are you like, oh, wow, shocked that you love him so much or vice versa? Like who kind of stood out to you on Family Day to be like, whoa, wasn't expecting that? And I think before you go, the one thing I will say, I think that's also. part of what this season lacked, there was very few surprises. Everything was kind of expected to go exactly how it went. And I think the surprises kind of ran out after mid-second week,
Starting point is 00:17:36 which is way too early for surprises. And we talked about that at length about everybody just coupling up, afraid to move because somebody's reaction was sour and blah, blah, blah, whatever. But I agree there were really limited surprises throughout the entire season, obviously aside from Casa and having the girls watch the boys go to Casa, which was funny. That was the end of it. But for Family Day in particular, nothing really surprised me.
Starting point is 00:17:58 I mean, I thought that maybe Casey was going to get like a little bit of shit from T.T.'s family. Like, oh, yeah, like, how were you and Anaya doing or start making fun of them? The sincere Melanie thing played out better than I had hoped. Everybody else was so, like, even keeled, except for Anaya's family talking about sincere and Melanie. The rest of them were fine. There was no surprises. They all act like they just got back from war. Like, I haven't seen my family in years.
Starting point is 00:18:21 I don't know what's going on. That's always funny and that's always going to make me laugh. But the rest of it, like, there was nothing really important to discuss. It was really just waiting until Melody and Sincere's family's got there. Well, you have to talk about Bryce's grandmother. Oh, she was electric. She was awesome. Like, her rooting for them and upset that they hadn't yet gone to the hideaway was, at first, strange.
Starting point is 00:18:45 I was like, oh. And then she said it like four times. I was like, you know what? I'm on board. No, I like the commitment. It's very endearing. She's clearly locked into this whole process. I think the most interesting thing, again, from a psychological aspect, the parents of every single person, other than sincere, kind of show you why everyone is the way that they are.
Starting point is 00:19:08 Because you get Charlie didn't need to see him again. And Charlie's, that was a sister, right? The sister showed up and then we get the video from mom and dad. Charlie's third time back in the villa. Yeah. So give it a rest, dude. Too much. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:23 You're trying too hard. You should have said no. That would have spoken value is Charlie. But they seem super clout, J.C. They seem super get me in front of the camera. I want to make a name for myself. Mom, she seemed that way last year. I remembered her visit this time when I saw her on camera later.
Starting point is 00:19:40 And it seems like she's vying for more spotlight. And that's how Zach is. But then you go through each family and each individual. I'm like, wow, you can kind of see why each person is the way that they are. Like he goes to Bryce and his parents. And I'm like, this makes a lot of sense, why you are so even keeled and cool. Carl's family, no surprise, delightful people, absolutely delightful and gorgeous. And that's what I expected.
Starting point is 00:20:08 And I agree with the islanders. Super attractive families. Oh, yeah. Weird way. That's a compliment. But it was fascinating to me to. watch the how each islander was throughout their time in the villa and then meet their family and be like, oh, you can really kind of put it together more so than I thought you'd be able
Starting point is 00:20:29 to because they're all very similar. But Bryce's grandma was the star of the show, right? For an entire episode and she was only there for a total of 15 minutes as they confirmed, which is very funny. But that was enough for me to at least be locked in during it. I loved when they called Zach and Kate over and she immediately says something about the three ways. She's like, ah, you know, three ways are weird.
Starting point is 00:20:48 Somebody always gets left out. There's never enough to go around. I'm like, gee, what have you been through? Like, tell us more about your life. Actually, get in front of the camera. Instead of watching everybody else's families, because, yeah, you can just do a little snippet. Let's just keep going back to Brace's grandma.
Starting point is 00:21:01 She has a new story for us. That's what I want. Ian interview her. Yeah, yeah, let's just do that instead of the reunion because those reunions are fucking God awful. But yeah, I don't know. I guess it was nice in a way. Did you cry?
Starting point is 00:21:13 I got to ask you if you cried. I got choked up. when Melanie's sister was giving her the, I don't even know if you call it a pep talk, the tough love, that I got a little choked up. And we'll just talk about that now, the Melanie and sincere visit,
Starting point is 00:21:30 because watching it going into it, you had Melanie very much like, oh, my mom's so forgiving. And my mom is like so cool. And my family's going to be fine. They're just going to be like, hey, you got to get it together. Could not be further from what happened.
Starting point is 00:21:44 They were on a mission. Sis was coming in hot like, hey, fuck this guy. You need to get the hell away from him. Mom was a little bit more gentle, but she was saying very deep things. Like, hey, don't let anybody steal your essence. Your heart is sacred. Your essence is sacred. So I think that was her saying, like, this guy's a piece of shit.
Starting point is 00:22:05 He should probably run. But since here's dad, like we talked about or stepdad, whoever, not happy. And that was my favorite part. And I wish that he'd had like a little bit more of a Philly accent. Like, dude, you look like a fucking dickhead. Like you do an ass, you asshole, you're walking around here. You're disrespect in our family. That would have been awesome.
Starting point is 00:22:24 But it was very interesting to see all parents during that visit, just dropping the hammer on sincere. And the crazier thing is going on to socials and seeing way too many people like, sincere's growing. They should have laid off of them. That was too much. No, not only that with socials, since here's mom and uncle and cousins or something all went on socials and we're just talking shit on Melody's family,
Starting point is 00:22:52 talking shit on Adia's family. So it's gotten incredibly messy. There should be more coming out about that. I'm sure obviously, you know, they're going to start deleting their posts and whatever. But that got very, very toxic and bizarre.
Starting point is 00:23:04 I don't, I think my favorite part was watching, obviously, you know, sincere's dad go off on him. I love that he didn't wait until they got their one-on-one time. He decided just to do it because he wanted to show Melody's family like, hey, no, no, no, we don't stand by this. There's four people here now that don't stand, five people that do not stand with him.
Starting point is 00:23:22 So make sure we're not part of that. I don't want to catch any smoke from you guys while I'm talking about him because he's an asshole. That's what I got. He was 7,000 miles to call my stepson of dickhead. Yeah, pretty much. That's what he did. But I also loved like his little brother was there and he must have been like 19, 18. He was probably so excited to be there wandering around and then he has to sit down for like,
Starting point is 00:23:42 a really good, hard talking to. He's like, fuck, man, I can't just like sit here and have fun. I mean, who was it? Oh, Kenzie's brother came in and they were like, oh, yeah, who's your crush in here? I love Keda. Cool. I'm having a great time. Sits down.
Starting point is 00:23:55 He had some moves. Yeah, then you got sincere brother coming in here trying to get the same treatment. Instead, he just has to listen to his brother, get a talk into on national TV. That was fucking awesome. And it just, the good times just didn't stop there, you know? We got to pull away for our individual chats. And like, you already touched on Melanie's side of it. I do think personally when Melody's mom's talking, it sounds so much better in Spanish.
Starting point is 00:24:17 I mean, if she said that in English, I would have been like, all right. Yeah. You got that thought from a book. She says it in Spanish. It's just like, wow, that's beautiful. That is very beautiful. This isn't going to hit at all, by the way. Melanie is going to ignore everything you're saying.
Starting point is 00:24:28 Oh, yeah. And then when she talks to annihilator, she's going to ignore Anaya too and just be like, no, Anaya, you're fine. I, I'm an adult. I need to figure these things out for myself. Oh, I'm actually just falling for the same thing the next day with sincere. But, yeah, since. just got an absolute licking from his dad when he sits down with him.
Starting point is 00:24:46 And it was funny. I mean, look, that was a good enough payoff. But again, it happened. And then we move into the next episode and the finale, it all just goes away very quickly as it has the entire season. Sincere does something stupid gets caught in the act, lying, talking to other people, doing the same thing. The next day, he's fine.
Starting point is 00:25:03 He doesn't really have to make up anything to her. I mean, it sucks for Melanie because everyone's watching that. But the way that this show works, they don't care. they're just cheering for Melanie. From the parents behind law and order comes a mystery the whole family can enjoy. Now the survivors claw to what's left of a broken world, praying the darkness. chooses someone else tonight.
Starting point is 00:26:15 But in the shadow dark, the darkness always wins. This is old school adventuring at its most cruel. Your torch ticks down in real time. And when that flame dies, something else rises to finish the job. This is a brutal rules-light nightmare with a story that emerges organically based on the decisions that the characters make. This is what it felt like to play RPGs in the 80s. And man, it is so good to be back.

Starting point is 00:29:00 best and worst episodes of classic TV shows. The episode of Star Trek where Beverly Crusher has sex with a ghost, the episode of the X-Files, where Scully gets attacked by a vicious house cat. And also the really good episodes, too.
Starting point is 00:29:13 What can we learn from the best and worst of great television? Like, for example, Is it really a bad episode or do people just hate women? The best, worst, available wherever you get your podcasts. Yeah, exactly. And, you know, the one thing I will point out from Family Day to give her some credit. And again, I've been team Kenzie pretty much most of the season, despite the fact that she
Starting point is 00:29:35 annoys me a lot of the time. But I do think that she played the game the right way. Got a little messy. But again, she was just exploring and had more people gone Kenzie's route, would have been a more entertaining season. Huge props to Kenzie for pulling mom for a chat. I thought that was a cool move. No one else did that.
Starting point is 00:29:53 And he went up to Dylan's mom's like, hey, can I pull you real quick? And I had a little one-on-one. Now, Dylan, I think, is 100% on this show to try and get a following. I think that's the only reason. And I think that you can see that. As soon as they get voted off,
Starting point is 00:30:09 which no surprise, he's up in the room packing his shit. And he's like, you know, I'm really excited to, uh, what did he say? It was so stupid and so like minimizing after being very love bombing. He was like, you know, I get to, to try. I get to know Kenzie a bit more. And like that's super cool.
Starting point is 00:30:28 Like I'm super stoked to get to know her better was his line upon leaving. Yeah. Now previously he'd been talking as though they were madly in love. And now he's like, yeah, I'm super stoked to get to know her better. It's like, okay, you're full of shit. Dylan, I could not be happier to get him off the screen. I mean, Kenzie, I think honestly, Kenzie should have made it till the end.
Starting point is 00:30:46 I think it's ludicrous that you send in Anaya and Carl, to be honest. Like, they had two weeks. It's, I mean, so did Kenzie too. But like, for all the things that Anaya went through, I don't think she did enough to actually earn that last spot. I mean, we could talk for hours about who should have actually been in the final four. None of the answers would be correct.
Starting point is 00:31:03 Because I do think that you don't even need a final four as we talked about last week. A final three is probably sufficient. But that's just the way the show works, I guess. But Dylan, he did that. And then I think like two or three, minutes later he started talking about sincere he's like oh man like she's just getting a really having a hard time in here every time he does anything people are just up his ass and i feel really bad for the guy because he can really like figure it out and he's a really nice guy and he means well
Starting point is 00:31:27 it's like what are you talking about did you've been here for a week what are we doing yeah he's he's he's already paid his dues like it's time to move on it's like well you don't get to dictate that okay and also the family just showed up and they haven't had a chance to speak on melani's behalf and they're heated, understandably so. Dylan. Dylan sucked. Dylan, he bummed me out like all season. I wish that he wasn't on the show. And I do think that this was 100% of means to an end for him.
Starting point is 00:31:53 I'm not usually that steadfast. Normally when it comes to these types of shows, especially Love Island, I respect the fact that a lot of these people want to grow a following. That's kind of the hope is like this is a stepping stone into the spotlight. And after this, you get brand deals, you become a, full-time influence. Everybody knows you, maybe a couple more shows,
Starting point is 00:32:14 whatever. I get that. That's the name of the game. So when people get pissed off at people using these shows as a kind of a springboard into a potential career, that's just part of the game now.
Starting point is 00:32:25 Like that's part of the show. I don't mind if they also seem like they're there to enjoy the experience, even if they're not there to fully immerse themselves and be like, I would have fun love. But if they're into the experience, they give it they're all,
Starting point is 00:32:36 I'm cool with that. I do not like, when somebody spits in my mouth and tells me, it's raining. And that's what Dylan was doing. And that drove me up a fucking wall. What's that?
Starting point is 00:32:45 That got shoehorned in there. That was not. Yeah, no, no. I thought that was good. We almost made a full episode without using that phrase for the first time in weeks. Yeah. First time in months probably. But that would, that would caught me by surprise.
Starting point is 00:32:59 That's what I'm here to do. That means it's a good one. That was a win. But Dylan, back to Dylan, I just think that he was detrimental to the show. I don't think he pushed the show forward. I think Carl and Anaya made it to the final because of what Anaya went through. And I think Carl was just such a stand-up dude. It was hard to not vote for him.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Like he seems too good to be true type shit. So I don't know. As far as like the finale goes, you know, we go on our dates and everything. I thought it was comical that Zach and Kate, it's kind of indicative of their season as well. every other date was pretty decent. Like sincere and Melanie had that like bungalow floating with like a pizza thing and they had a massage table. You had the fairy tale with the book and like the beautiful decor. You had the what I can only call like when you pay for a one-on-one dinner at an all-inclusive resort.
Starting point is 00:34:00 That's where Bryce and Trinity went. But it was still cool. We got fire dancers and stuff like that. And then what was the last one? What? Melanie and sincere. Oh, no, no, yeah. Well, it doesn't matter
Starting point is 00:34:13 because we get the Zach and Cada. That was like a Groupon. Like, I got a Groupon to do this cool riverboat and then we're going to eat sandwiches by the swan. The sandwiches were just sitting there and Charlie even commented on it and said,
Starting point is 00:34:28 why did you put them by the swab? But they said, we don't have time for you right now, Charles. Which I think is funny. Like, yeah, just leave him alone. But yeah, it was comical. I mean, everybody else's dates looked like they were at night, too, except for, you know, Melody and sincere.
Starting point is 00:34:41 Two of the couples got a very nice romantic. We actually remember that because I think Nick and Alandria went to the place that Ania and Carl went to at one point. Yeah, they also, yeah, they went to an island later. Yeah, remember, they went on a scavenger hunt on an island. What did you say? They were really, they were really pushing Nick and Aladria last year. I remember.
Starting point is 00:35:02 They had so many dates. Yeah, it was just, again, it's a big nothing burger. It's really just like the end of the season. all right. Yeah, this is what we do. We send them on dates. But like the whole date, every single date was just, let's talk about how we got here. I'm like, please don't fucking waste my time. There's still an hour and 40 minutes left of this shit. Like, come on.
Starting point is 00:35:20 But it's more things. Like throw out a bombshell. Let's throw a bombshell into the mix. Come on, please. Just do something. Instead of a fire dancer, have it be a fire dancer. And then they take their mask off and it's Ariana. And she's like, I'm sending another couple home.
Starting point is 00:35:32 Cool. See you later. That would be fun. Instead they're like, ah, let's just fucking phone and then. Let's get this shit over with. And we already knew, like, it was a foregone conclusion that we were going to have, Bryce and Trinity as the number one couple at the end of the group after the fucking second
Starting point is 00:35:45 week. Nothing changed. The others kind of like switched in standings and you could have made a case for really anybody else to be in second or third. But it doesn't really matter. And when we're reading it off to and Ariad is going through it, which again, took about 40 minutes to get through, we're talking about all the couples. It's like, Zach and Kate at number four.
Starting point is 00:36:02 It's like, wow, I cannot believe that Anaya and Carl, who she sent away and then had to bring back the producers. That's how he gets back and they end up getting into the top three. That's kind of ludicrous. Top two. Top two. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:15 Well, I mean, Melanincere should have been there anymore. It just, it was a cluster fuck. It was a cluster fuck at the end of the season. It was boring as hell. I'm so happy it's over.
Starting point is 00:36:24 I am moving on with my life. I finally get my weeknights back for the most part, except for Bravo, but I end up watching that during the day. Anyway, I'm happy. I'm happy. It's over.
Starting point is 00:36:34 And I usually don't want to be. But for this, I'm happy. it's over. No, I feel you. And again, like, you may not like Casey and I would totally understand your argument and you. I would have, I would have rather. Yeah. It just makes more sense. Like, from a show structure standpoint, Casey and TT being in the final makes so much more sense than both Zach and Keta and Melanie and sincere. If you want to throw Melanie and, like it should have been Zach and Kada on the outs because if you want to put Melanie and sincere as the fourth couple,
Starting point is 00:37:07 That makes sense. Casey and T's here in Zach and, sorry, Bryce and Trinity, and then Carl and Anaya, fine. Then you can understand like, oh,
Starting point is 00:37:16 Melanie and sincere, we're on the bubble. They squeaked in just because people love Melanie. And this has been the only super compelling story that we've had all season. So I get it. There's no argument for Zach and Keita. And I think that was where we,
Starting point is 00:37:29 we kind of lost the plot on the season. It's a bummer. I mean, we lost the plot in multiple places. But my question to you, and then, We will go to some questions. What do we need to do to get on track next season?
Starting point is 00:37:44 We've had two seasons in a row that have been lack of-busters. I want to hear your ideas. So I think this season was the pendulum swinging the opposite direction. All of our complaints last year were no more micro-influencers, no more people that just want to get their brands going, and they already kind of have a brand going. And the age groups, I feel like we're all over the place. I think they went too young this year.
Starting point is 00:38:05 I think they went too unknown. just picked a bunch of like 21, 22 year olds. That's too young for people, quote unquote, finding love on an island. They should be like 24, 25, 26 in that window. And Bryce being like 27, I think he is, right? Or 29. He's 30 now, I think.
Starting point is 00:38:22 I think it's actually his birthday while he was in the villa. So he was 29 and then Trinity was younger. That makes a little bit more sense because you're going to be able to get somebody who's got like a little bit more intelligence, a little bit more emotional intelligence. It's going to actually understand what they want to do with their life. So I think if you find that sweet spot of everybody kind of in the middle, get a median age of like 24, 25, you're going to have a little bit better results where people aren't going to be as weird. And then I don't know, from their challenges, do away with a bunch of them. Enough of the sponsored fucking challenges that you're shoehorning in there just so you can make us grossed out after that fucking fishhead challenge.
Starting point is 00:38:57 That was disgusting. But like a little bit less on the challenge front, more on the bombshells. Keep testing the connections for the love of God. they just stopped testing them. They wanted to see what they were going to do. That didn't work out. So learn from that. And then maybe if we have some sort of combination of the casting that you kind of
Starting point is 00:39:14 figured out for season seven and the casting that you had for season eight, put them together and throw bombshells in there, I think you'll be okay. I think that's a good way to go about it. I agree. I think we can still have the lustful challenges. We'll just stay on top of here. Yeah, they're going to happen. Which is fine.
Starting point is 00:39:33 Love Island USA is lustful. challenges. Right. And people, people from the UK and the rest of the world that watch it are like, ew, this is gross. Why is USA doing this?
Starting point is 00:39:41 None of the other shows do it. So they go away from that. Yeah, I want to, you can do some of those because that's, whether you like it or not, like that's kind of the mark of Love Island USA. So we need more karaoke type shit.
Starting point is 00:39:55 Like I need more of those kinds of challenges where I can get in, and I need them earlier. Because I think that's how you see couples that you want to invest in. I'm not investing. in a couple because they stick their tongue further down each other's throats than the other couples. But if I see them doing cutesy shit, I'm going to be on board for them. Or dates. More dates. We need more individual dates.
Starting point is 00:40:15 Have challenges where the winner gets to go on a date. Then they take the challenge more seriously. Or hide away. And I think, and we said this a lot last year, don't leave things up to the Islanders. They're idiots. They don't know what's going on. And I know there's a psychological component of this where they don't really understand what's going on around them.
Starting point is 00:40:33 put it in the hands of your producers first, then mix the Islanders in a little bit, and then leave it to us at the end. Like, we can vote for our favorite couples here and there, vote for matchmaking like a couple times. I know we talked about it. There was only like five votes this year, maybe six, I guess, for the final.
Starting point is 00:40:48 That doesn't really count. Last year there were like 12. That was too many. This was too little. Find that sweet spot in the middle. And then stop telling the Islanders to the side. They're only going to pick their friends. They really don't give a shit about connections.
Starting point is 00:40:58 They care about themselves, and then they care about their friends. They don't care if that person has a lot of, a strong connection as we've seen. So I think the answer to a lot of it, and then we'll get to questions, incentive. We need to find a way to incentivize islanders
Starting point is 00:41:13 during the season. That's not simply, you don't go home. Like we need challenges to win money or a date or a night in the hideaway. I think that's a great way to do it. And I think that you're right, if we can combine the micro-influencer cast
Starting point is 00:41:29 of last year with this Normie cast, this year, somewhere in the middle, more challenges that aren't just sex and incentives, dates, money, hideaway. I think it's a better product. And most importantly, the most important, by far above all else, way more bombshells, substantially more, a bombshell every other night until CASA. And then you can stop entirely. But no, actually, there should be a mandatory one more bomb shale.
Starting point is 00:42:03 shell post casa and then we finish a bombshell drop so guy and a girl yes yeah yes one of each to really just like you even if their producers are sitting there and they're like wow these connections are really strong let's just see what happens it's boring for us it's so boring like we are not they might think that the name of the game is like oh these people like watching at home really want to see strong connections we don't we really don't we just want to see chaos we want to see people really push to the limit. That's what we want. And not too far.
Starting point is 00:42:33 That's going to sound weird. But you know what I mean. Yeah. But anyway, let's get to some questions. Dream chasing B. Are you still a Brinidad non-believer? I think the way, Steele's always been a believer.
Starting point is 00:42:50 I don't care enough to be a believer, but I never have been a non-believer. I just haphazardly talk about people on this show because I know they don't really matter after they leave the villa. I actually am more invested in those two than I was any couple from last season because I actually do think that they are gonna
Starting point is 00:43:12 make a run at it. I do, I believe that they are in love. And I think that they are cute and I like their families. I think the age gap is the only hurdle to get over. Trinity is 21, but she is far more emotionally intelligent than 99% of 21-year-olds.
Starting point is 00:43:28 I think they're shot. So yeah, I actually, I'm into those two. I think and the funny thing is I would care if there was a good product after Love Islands that I would still have to watch them. But beyond the villa sucks and I don't care about anybody on that show. So yeah, I'm not really going to be invested. You guys, I got in trouble for it last year, but you know, check back in six months. Let me know who's still together because I will not be paying attention. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:56 I see. I like this one. this I mean, this is also dream chase and B, but how long till Melanie and Sincere break up a week, two weeks probably? They'll break up before the reunion, that's for damn sure. And then they'll back again. I think that
Starting point is 00:44:10 sincere is going to try to make it to the reunion to prove a point. But I don't think it's going to be because he actually wants to be in that. But it'll be interesting because he's just going to be straight damage control after this to try to make it seem like he's not a piece of shit. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:28 So that'll be interesting. to watch. And it's not going to help with, you know, Daisy Williams says, need your reaction to Sin Sears Mom on TikTok live. I didn't think he'd get worse for him. I need to watch that. But apparently she was going after Anaya's family. She was going after Melanie's family.
Starting point is 00:44:45 So bad. She was bitching about, she was pitching about Anaya and Carl beating them and being the number two. And she's like, Anaya sent Carl away. And then he comes back. And she didn't even ask for him to come back. But he came back. and then they couple up and then they're better than Melanie and Sincere.
Starting point is 00:45:01 It's like, yeah. Yes. They actually were. I show you how bad their couple was. Yeah. And it's also, I mean, you're up against a tough battle there because Carl is just such a delightful individual. And Anaya was very likable all season too.
Starting point is 00:45:14 So that's a tough couple for Melanie and Sincere who had a lot of downs, not a lot of ups, a lot of downs. Yeah. Natalie K. K. Kahl, more bombshells and people need to remember. We're not vote or we're voting on couples, not our favorite girls. Yes, amen.
Starting point is 00:45:32 And, but better than last season, felt more authentic. It did feel more authentic than last year. But like, it wasn't as entertaining as last year. And last year was an absolute atom bomb at the end that I didn't care. Yeah. I think that's why we've talked a lot about finding the, the middle ground between last season and this season. I think that's where the show thrives because I agree.
Starting point is 00:45:54 I was more invested in people last year. but I liked this show this year better. Correct. It's like weird though because it wasn't as entertaining. It feels weird to say that, but I think most people would agree. I think people get it. You guys get what I'm saying. Yeah, you guys, come on.
Starting point is 00:46:10 You guys get it. You guys are cool. From Ney Shante, do you think public voting was a bit excessive this year? It does get worse every year. It gets worse every year with more people getting involved, more people online being vocal. And again, just voting for their favorites. it's just annoying. You're never going to be able to get away from that.
Starting point is 00:46:28 I don't think there's a way that you can figure out some sort of voting formula that'll try to inhibit their ability to vote for their favorites and just actually vote for the couples. But I just don't see a way forward without that being a possibility. And it's just, it's going to suck every year. I think they just need to take it out of America's hands a little bit more off them. You need to figure out a way that America's vote influences the vote, but it's not the end all be all. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:55 is the only way it could be a little bit more functional, but I don't know. I think that that's going to be a layer to the show that just is what it is because they want America involved that people download their app, then they get to advertise to them on the apps. Like, that's not going anywhere. I would actually argue that there's going to be more votes next year. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:14 I don't know how you counterbalance that. I have no idea how you make it more realistic. I don't think you can. I mean, it's definitely not because I just clicked over at Twitter because it was the app that I had to open. And the first thing that popped up is a profile called Loves Mel, and it's Melanie is their profile picture. And it's talking about this person DMing Melanie all of their thoughts.
Starting point is 00:47:37 So it's never going to change. People are going to be nuts. Oh, yeah, this. I do. Okay. I'm not crazy. Steph Day Chips-Ahoi. Thoughts on the prize money split or steel change.
Starting point is 00:47:47 Obviously they would have split the prize, but I still wanted the dramatic moment. Yeah, I remember that. I said that. That's the thing. I was like, yeah, that's a thing. It's been a thing. Yeah. It's been a thing since season one.
Starting point is 00:47:57 They did away with it for whatever reason. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I think it's redundant. I don't think you're going to get that opportunity. They should do, this would be awesome. You either split 100K or you get to leave by yourself, but you get 200K. Oh. If they, they don't surprise money, if you leave solo, that would be fun because then you'd have
Starting point is 00:48:20 people really like, ooh, I don't know. That's a really good point. Yeah. Let's do one or two more. M. Brackmanman. Predictions for the cast for six months from now. I'm just going to say, together or broken up. Brinidad together.
Starting point is 00:48:37 Melanie and sincere, broken up. T.T. and Casey, together. Carl and Naya, together. I think together. Yeah. It's probably easier to just see broken up. Zach and Cater. Yeah, because Zach's just not.
Starting point is 00:48:51 He's going to like spend time in L.A. he's going to go to New Hampshire once he's going to be in L.A. with Charlie he's going to go back to London and then that's pretty much it. I'm probably missing something else. Kenzie and Dylan weirdly now broken up, fuck it. Because of Dylan. I think Kenzie wants to make it work.
Starting point is 00:49:07 I think Dylan is full of shit. Yeah. Corbyn and Parmita already broken up as I'm reading this. Yeah. But if you haven't seen that go watch their scene in the back of the Uber because that was the other thing. That was the other big issue was I'd love
Starting point is 00:49:23 this and it's so funny because I love the crossover moment but people bitching about uh Sierra not even being there and they're like see her and Tephy hate each other Sierra can't even be there to fill she's filming summer house summer house takes priority it's just how it works but let's do uh let's do one more in here hmm I got uh health got her said definitely better than last season see I think it's gonna be like revisionist history I don't really know um this is funny on from Riley Nina. Did you think it was weird that Zach asked to kiss Bryce after they won?
Starting point is 00:49:58 No. I don't actually because that's just kind of what they were doing. That's their bromance that was teetering on, you know, potential relationship status. Yeah. I think that it was funny for a while then I genuinely think, and I'm saying genuinely intentionally because I'm going to read this one to end it, but genuinely literally, I think that Trinity's or sorry, Trinity does not like Zach. I think she puts up with Zach,
Starting point is 00:50:31 but I think that he irritates her. And I think that like those two double dating in the back of her mind, I think Trinity's like, fuck, I don't want to have to deal with Zach. Yeah, that's a really, I love that. I can get behind that. Yeah, but that ends us with Abby Cab's Carl sharing philosophy
Starting point is 00:50:46 and girls saying on repeat genuinely, literally, and dead ass. Shut up. That too. I love like when they when they get a text like obviously they're contractually obligated to scream that they have a text. But then the reactions after that always drive me crazy.
Starting point is 00:51:05 Shut up. Yes. That's shut up. You guys get a text every day. Every day. No genuinely. No literally. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:14 Oh. Yeah. What happened to low. Epitome. What else do we have? Compromise. emerge myself, compromise.
Starting point is 00:51:25 There was a few more. And there was so funny, there was an article. Like I think the Times or something, like a legit publication that addressed the illiteracy of America. And they used this show as a reference. Honestly, you could do that and just take like a small sample size of the threads and tweets
Starting point is 00:51:48 from the fan base. And you could write a paper on it. Like a full, dissertation. Somebody did, apparently. So there's a guy who said, legit. There's a guy, he makes me laugh every once in a while. He calls us the woke bros, but he watches like every video.
Starting point is 00:52:01 Oh, that guy. Yeah, he always, he always says shit to me. He's, yeah, he doesn't like you that much, and I think that's very funny. But he also said that our vocabulary is from like the 70s. Sorry that we know words. Like, what do you want from us? We don't know any new words. That guy's
Starting point is 00:52:17 miserable. He legit. I have a hat that says humans, helping means he's like oh really he like who's rooting against that what a strange thing no it is what it is he's got to listen to this and be like me loki i like that guy i know you do i think that he seems like just an unhappy person this is on brands this is on brand for him right now so that works yeah but anyway who knows what next season will bring hopefully they're able to kind of get back to the drawing board if that producer passing away did throw rent into this season, which is very, very probable.
Starting point is 00:52:55 Maybe that's kind of why it went off the rails, but hopefully they can get it back on track. But will you shall see? That's all I got. You got anything else? Nope. Well, that's our show. Brabros are out of here, literally. Genuinely.
Starting point is 00:53:12 You've watched them from the outside your whole life. On TV, on stage, on the cover. The success that always looks like it happened to someone, a different planet. The distance between you and them, it's a lot shorter than anyone's letting on. On my podcast, Repen, I sit down with the people you've been watching and I ask them who they actually are, not the brand, the person, where they started, what it costs them, what almost broke them, their grit, their courage, their
