Bros & Shows - The Red Sowing: House of The Dragon s02ep07 Full Recap (Part 1 of 2)

Episode Date: July 30, 2024

What doth it do thy Bros? In Part 1 of our 2 part episode. We return to Westeros and the season is finally starting to pick back up. While the last few episodes haven't been terrible, it has been a bi...g lull in a short season and the Bros have some gripes. But, we are glad we get back to some much needed dragon action this week. After finding Addam of Hull to be the rider of Seasmoke, Rhaenyra realizes that those with any lineage to the Targaryens can in fact ride dragons. She calls on a rag tag group of bastards to see if any are worthy of riding the remaining dragons under Dragonstone. Not everyone loves this idea, particularly Jace because it calls into question his standing amongst the family. If those bastards can ride dragons as well then how is he any different? Alicent finds herself completely irrelevant and takes to the woods with Ser Rickard. And everybody is getting dragons... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Starting point is 00:01:05 I am a... Bravo Bros. Good morrow, thy loyal brethren, and welcome back to yet another House of Thy Dragon episode. I am your co-host, Sir Steele, joined as always by the one and all the Vermigutes. What's up, Vermigutes? I like Vermigutes. And we have dragons.
Starting point is 00:01:33 We have things to actually talk about. It wasn't that slow of an episode. Steele and I both talked off camera. We both have some gripes, if you want to put it that way. But overall, solid episode. We finally got some dragon action. There was an incredible scene, which I can't wait to get into. And it looks like things are finally turning just in time for the season finale and
Starting point is 00:01:56 another two-year wait. That's where the gripes will begin to come in, but I agree with you. This episode gets us back on track a little bit. And I mean, we might as well just talk about it now before we get into the episode because here's more gripes. Here's, yeah, the gripes with the bros. Here's my gripes about this.
Starting point is 00:02:15 We have one episode left, which means we got three relatively tame episodes in a row because look, there were some good moments in this episode, but overall it was still plot, plot. plot. It's a lot of plot in setting up for the finale, which is next week, which is great because we have a pretty exciting finale you look forward to. But for me, it's too little too late because we've gotten to the end of the season. And this, after waiting for two
Starting point is 00:02:41 years, if this was a back-to-back season, we had last year a season than this year, another season, different story. We've waited two plus years for this to come out. And we've had half the season thus far been pretty much nothing but plot. That's my issue. I don't mind hanging in for Game of Thrones shows during the lull if we get the payoff. But knowing that we only have one episode left, which means I had to sit through half a season of pretty ho-hum plotline, I'm a little gripey. That's my gripe.
Starting point is 00:03:13 Yeah, I really have a hard time putting my thumb on it. I was trying to figure it out last night after watching the episode. It's almost like my complaint is they're moving so slow and yet they're glibly. glossing over certain things that I feel like could be good scenes where in this particular episode obviously we start off with Adam Valerian well his name's not Valerian but Adam of Hull with Seas Smoke meeting up with Reneera but then there's no further conversation where now Adam is sitting around like I want to see him interact with Jace because Jace has a lot of gripes as well. Add Jace to the list of the bros that have gripes he's got a lot of
Starting point is 00:03:50 grapes. So there's like certain scenes and interactions that I want to see that they gloss over and yet we're still moving really slow. Do we really need to see Raina walking around the veil seeing like burnt, uh, burnt up sheep. But we don't get to see sheep stealer. You know what I mean? Like this is now two weeks in a row. Like yes, we know that she knows it's out there, but move a little faster on that end. If you want to do this entire episode where all these people are claiming dragons, awesome. Set it up for the entire episode. Now we're going to have the payoff next week where she's claiming sheep stealer or dies claiming sheep stealer whenever she's going to end up doing there's just like i don't know i just feel like it's too inconsistent and i feel like if the last two
Starting point is 00:04:30 episodes not including this last night's episode if the last two episodes were just as good as last nights i'd be okay but the last two were so slow and ploddy and i get it it's game of thrones it's going to set up a lot of things but it seems like everybody else is in the same same boat with early game of thrones was year after year after year now because there's so much production that goes into these things it takes two years to make another season so what we have to sit around for the next two years and finally get to some action in season three which i would imagine it's going to happen yeah and that's fine the payoff is there like i always know that throne shows will come through with the payoff i'm not worried about having episodes where we're like holy shit
Starting point is 00:05:09 that was amazing but i'm curious and i wonder what your take is on this but i'm curious do game of thrones producers realize that they are game of thrones so they don't have to push things as fast because they they fall on the sword of well it's game of thrones people are going to watch so they know what we're doing so we don't have to put out action packed episode after action packed episode we can take our time to do this because people will continue to watch and they may not like it but this is the route that we're going to go have they fallen victim to the idea that this show's going to be a hit no matter what so let's take our time and do what we want to do rather than put out quality episodes that have the action have the plot have all
Starting point is 00:05:50 of the things that we want to watch giving us what we want and what we need rather than leaning into oh we're going to set this up this is just how we're going to do it and we're going to get away with it because it's Game of Thrones. Yeah, I think that the pitfall for this show is that there's
Starting point is 00:06:06 only one storyline where Game of Thrones was a lot, at least in the first like four seasons I would say, a lot of different stories with different characters happening in different areas. So we were jumping around. So you could have a good climax for DeNaris while getting really ploddy with the Starks or you could have a really
Starting point is 00:06:26 good climax with the Lannisters down in King's Landing while also having a little bit of lull somewhere else with somebody in the veil or whatever Sansa was up to. There's a lot of things that you could kind of fall back on because it gave us enough where okay this one's finally paying off I'm okay with sitting through this lull. With this it's just the dance of the dragons. It's one storyline and yes there's a lot of you can nitpick and say individual things going on and a lot of plot a lot of character building in Damon's case, I guess. But I feel like they're too inconsistent where, yes, we know that Damon needs to go through a change and we know that's why he's in Harren Hall and he's going through all of these visions, but we're still doing it. Like, we get it.
Starting point is 00:07:05 We understand. We really know that this is going to get there. It's not the payoff that we want unless next episode he just flies the King's Landing and starts killing everybody. Then, okay, sure, good payoff. But I feel like they could have expedited that a little bit. They could have drawn certain things out and built some other characters. Like, we know. what Damon's up to. If you want to leave them there for four, five, six episodes, fine. Check in with them. Do a little bit of this, a little bit of that, but have a payoff elsewhere. And I feel like the last couple episodes, they really haven't delivered with that. Yeah. And I think that that's a good point. If we know Damon's there, we are running into episodes now where we're repeating the same thing.
Starting point is 00:07:40 We get the same exact scenes, the same setup to try to give that plot, whatever they're trying to aim to get us to understand or thematically or whatever. whatever their goal is, we get it. At this point, they're beating a dead horse. It's like the perfect example is Raina seeing the same exact burnt area. Yeah, we got it. Sheep Steelers out there. She knows it now. She's going to go try to claim him.
Starting point is 00:08:05 If you're going to do this episode, everyone's claiming their dragons. Just throw her in the mix. You don't have to delay it to next week. That's not a payoff now. That's just, okay, we know she's going to get the sheepstealer. Is she going to get on him or not? We'll find out next week. That's not that exciting.
Starting point is 00:08:20 If they had done this where each episode, each person starts to claim their dragon over the past few weeks, that's a different story. That's a great payoff for each episode. It's like, oh, Vermithor's got a rider. Next episode, C-Smok's got a rider. Oh, now we're kind of building up this dragon army. If you're going to use that as our payoff for this episode, is everyone gets a dragon, yay, why are you dragging out Renas? That's a great point you made. I'm watching her look at a bunch of dead sheep again.
Starting point is 00:08:46 We get it. Sheep stealers out there. Let's get her on the fucking dragon. next week, we don't have to waste that time of in the finale now. Now we take a five to 10 minute break to watch Raina walk over a mountain at the bottom of a hill in a cave. Oh, there's a dragon in there. She walks up to the dragon.
Starting point is 00:09:03 Oops. Chaos ensues. Raina gets a dragon. It's getting to the point now where over the past few weeks, I've tried to waylay my, you know, fears of the pitfalls of this season, like where it could go south. And I know people have been clamoring a little bit like this is too. slow we're not loving these last three episodes we've been trying to hold out hope just because we love the show it's gotten to a point now where look i i still love house the dragons i'll watch next season
Starting point is 00:09:29 i'm excited for next week i think that they were a little clumsy in the execution of this season overall i think they could have done a better job of getting us to this point than they did over the past few weeks yeah i fully agree with that and like you said it's just too much for certain storylines just dragging on and on and on. And I'm okay with it because, again, they're very consistent, which means that there are some really good scenes, like this scene that we have in the night's episode that we're going to be talking about, the scene where you see the dragon claimers and a ton of bastards from the Targaryen family get roasted. Like, that makes sense to me. You have Ulf just kind of drunkenly running away because he's scared and he ends up just falling into a
Starting point is 00:10:13 cavern and he sees Silver Wing. It's like, okay, great. That's cool with me because you can put those two together. But it's just like, I don't care that Allison is now roaming off into the godswood with one of the Kingsguard guys and floating in her, like, she's not doing anything, at least give her a vision or something, like make her life more meaningful. What does that do for me? Like, we know where she is. So they're just dragging certain things out and expediting other things. I feel like they should have flip-flop those types of things. But, you know, whatever. I don't want to complain too much about it because we're still really enjoying it. We're just nitpicking it because we have a podcast about it.
Starting point is 00:10:48 Yeah, it's a really good point. I mean, overall, I'm excited that it's back. I've enjoyed my Sunday nights watching the show, even though we've had a lull. And I think that's why we're nitpicky, not because we're like, fuck this show by any means. It's been a solid season overall. It's just, I think that some of the PTSD from Game of Thrones going south is still, like, in my brain. So I'm like, now I'm looking for, like, ways that this could go wrong, and I don't love that. because in the beginning of the season, I wasn't having that at all.
Starting point is 00:11:20 I was just excited, excited, excited. But I think next week's going to be incredible. You know, we've got multiple dragons. They're going to war. We got scenes from next week. We're no longer waiting. So I think that it's all going to end with a banger. It's like golf, you know, the minute that you're ready to walk away, you hit the best shot of the day and you want to come back for more.
Starting point is 00:11:40 So I think we're fine. Hopefully they are able to get the next season out sooner than two years. I know you said they're not filming yet. so that's a little disheartening, but fingers crossed that we speed up to next season. But let's get into this episode and we start out, and I'm with you. I think I could have done with them either flying around a little bit or a little bit more of how did we land on the beach for them to confront each other. But you get this scene between Adam of Hull and Ranira, and it's pretty much like an old
Starting point is 00:12:13 western film like they're squared off on either side and each one's got their dragon drawn and we got to walk forward and test each other out and see whatever things about right here and i think she was ready for uh shit here's another person with a dragon i don't know what team they're on and i think that and there's a little bit of this in the after show there's been so much personal vendettas this year of people trying to further their own beliefs or strategies or whatever they're trying to do, move their own game pieces. We haven't gotten a lot of randos show up and be like, oh, I pledge fealty to you. I'm on your team.
Starting point is 00:12:50 Just let me be a dragon rider so I can ride for the queen. And that's what he does immediately is he, after she gets to the bottom of how did you get a dragon? He immediately gets down on his knee and says, I'm here to serve. I want you to teach me the ways of being a dragon rider. And I think that even threw her off. She's like, oh, shit, you mean you're not going to try to kill me? Like you don't want to be king too? Everybody wants to be king.
Starting point is 00:13:10 What's your game? Yeah. No, I think it's really funny because the last glimpse that we got over near her last episode was her fed up with just sitting on Dragonstone not being able to be in the fight. This was her opportunity. If a green just claimed a dragon and he has the balls to be flying around Dragonstone, I'm going to go in front of myself. I'm ready for battle. I'm ready to do this. And she ends up finding somebody who's pledging loyalty immediately. I think it's really funny. And again, this shows about the dragons. Cyrax and Sea Smoke, they know each other. That's her late Lord husband. That's her late Lord Husbands dragon. We flew together all the time. Hey, haven't seen you in a while. How are you, see Smoke? Like, the two of them going back and forth is kind of funny. I wish there was, obviously, this would be a little too cartoonish.
Starting point is 00:13:53 But give me a little, like, high Valerian thought going on between the two dragons. Like, hey, what's your summer been like? No? No, too much. You know why? Not even because I'm not into the idea of it. I was a big fan. You remember the book, the Aragon series?
Starting point is 00:14:08 Oh, yeah. Books about the dragons or whatever. I was really into that, and then they made the movie, and I'll never forget. No, Chris and Matthew McConaughey or something. No, that the young actor, no, that was a different. I know which one you're talking about. That movie I actually liked. Then there was another one I think that Matt Damon was in.
Starting point is 00:14:31 We're going off a tangent. My point is, Eric, I made that movie. And I remember, because in the book, they can telepathically speak, which was cool. it did not translate well on film in the first five minutes i was like this is corny as shit i don't care i was only half serious i just like the idea of the two of them communicating i really don't want game of throids it makes it really cheesy so i am dropping that but it is funny because the two of them know each other so at the end of the day adam pledges peltie he gets down immediately i think riner starts thinking and obviously we've been gaining momentum on this let's get some dragon riders
Starting point is 00:15:07 with some blood she finds out hey maybe this person has no old valerian blood come to find out of course he does we'll have to find out from corlis if he's going to drop the beans or spill the beans on that one tell everybody hey i got a couple of bastards floating around here they might have some blood who knows i don't know but i think that him not him being adam not spilling the tea that corlis is my dad i'm a bastard child was interesting he kept that one close to the chest i'm curious there's going to be something more there obviously and we do get the interaction between Adam and Corvus later, but let's move on to Allison and just really quickly because, again, you could have done without a lot of Allison this episode, like just send her off into
Starting point is 00:15:49 the woods and leave it there. But she is now the same place she was last week. She's just lost. She has no place here. She has no order of business. She's no longer on the council. She's questioning everything. And she has that scar on her wrist, which is similar to that of Renera's from earlier. And so I think at this point, she's looking at everything, all the choices that she's made, the direction that this game has brought her to and realizing she's left with nothing. And I'm curious if it's more of a in-depth thought where it's like, is any of this even fucking worth it? Maybe I should just wander off. And who gives a shit? I shouldn't have played the game to begin with because those that are winning, winning, if you want to say
Starting point is 00:16:31 that, is her son, Amend and Agon. Agon's burnt to a crisp. Heyman is a psycho who has no idea what he's actually doing because he can't read the nuances of being a king. On the flip side, Renira is a mess trying to gather an army and is now enlisting bastards to try to ride mythical beasts. Like, that's where we've gotten to. It's so ludicrous that I think she's at this point, like, what the fuck are we even doing it? That's what I got from it, at least. Yeah, no, I got the same thing from it. And again, we already talked ad nauseum about how Allison doesn't even need to really have.
Starting point is 00:17:04 this long of a storyline. So this is about as much as we're going to talk about Allison in this episode because nothing else really matters. She is completely lost. She has no idea what she's doing. She keeps putting her children in danger, which is funny. Like, hey, Helena, you want to go out there and go light a candle with me? That could be a good mother-daughter bonding time. No, you end up going in the midst of a riot, which you knew what was going on out there. You knew that they were restless. Maybe being out there is not the best idea. But yeah, let's go on out there and I'm going to put my child in danger again because Helena is hasn't gone through enough so I just don't care about Allison anymore like we know she she has to come to grips with the fact that she's not
Starting point is 00:17:42 important anymore nobody cares about her nobody really wants to even talk to her she's just kind of milling around and forcing Kingsguard guys to go with her so that she can get out of the castle which again is stupid like you want to go into the gods woods like the last time that you went out you had a riot on your hands that tried to kill you so yes let's leave the the safety of the castle and go out into the woods. Sure. That'll end well. Summer's here, and you can now get almost anything you need for your sunny days delivered with Uber Eats.
Starting point is 00:18:13 What do we mean by almost? Well, you can't get a well-groom lawn delivered, but you can get a chicken parmesan delivered. A cabana? That's a no, but a banana might say yes. A nice tan, sorry, nope. But a box fan, happily, yes. A day of sunshine, no. A box of fine wines?
Starting point is 00:18:28 Yes. Uber Eats can definitely get you that. Get almost, almost anything delivered with Uber Eats. Order now. Alcohol and select markets, product availability may vary by Regency app for details. This episode is brought to you by Mewmew, introducing Mutein, the new feminine fragrance by the iconic fashion house. Mutein captures the youthful, unconventional essence of the Mewewew Girl, brought to life by a gourmand, intimate and enveloping scent of wild strawberry and brown sugar accords.
Starting point is 00:18:56 Mutein is not a statement, but a knowing glance, a sweet rebellion, lighthearted and laced with wit, A gesture made for oneself. Discover the new fragrance, Mutine, now available in Canada. The white chocolate macadamia cream cold brew from Starbucks is made just the way you like it. Handcrafted cold foam topped with toasted cookie crumble. It's a sweet summer twist on iced coffee. Your cold brew is ready at Starbucks. I'll do this just to expedite the rest of this episode.
Starting point is 00:19:25 We get the scene later of her in the water, and you're not sure is she going to go off herself right here. she's floating around. You don't get a vision. You don't get anything. You're left to assume that she's either found a reason to continue when she swims out of the lake or she is left to wander continuously for an extended period of time until she finds that reason or is killed or something along those lines. They're leaving it wide open without a lot of direction with Allison. And that's fine. That's fine. Leave her out there for a while. Maybe she can wander. And I think that something the show could do better with is what you said earlier. We know Damon is in Heron Hall. We do not have to check in as many times as we do to see him in the same position. If we know Allison's out in the woods, let's leave her out in the woods and we'll check in when something happens. That's what I hope they do with that. Like, all right, she's good for a while. Let's fuck off on Allison for a minute. Yeah, that's all we need. Yeah, but we get back and Laris is talking with, I finally know the bearded man's name, Iron Rod. Ah, there you go. That's the dude on the council. His name is Iron Rod. It took
Starting point is 00:20:31 us a little seven episodes seven episodes and that's the name that we could have remembered too so clearly they haven't said it much because i wouldn't have forgotten iron rod nope i don't think not at all probably i might have you wouldn't have i wouldn't but yeah i never do it but it's laris and iron rod sitting there and they're watching the the rioters are rounded up the ones that started the riot quote unquote and they're being sent to the wall they're not being put to death i don't know if this was actually an Aymand call. He goes, our Prince Regent is merciful. Do you think that he didn't tell Aymond?
Starting point is 00:21:05 Hey, we got the rioters and he's just taken upon himself to be like, let's send them to the wall. Well, they're not rioters. They're the Kingsguard that failed to protect the Queen. Oh, okay. I misread that. Yeah. So, no, that was the, those were the idiots that Agon hired
Starting point is 00:21:21 to be in the Kingsguard, his drunken friends. I didn't catch that. I was writing. Yeah. Yeah. So it was like three or four of them. It makes sense. Kingsguard. disgraced yourself, rip your white cloak off, go to the wall, see you later. So I thought that made a lot of sense. And again, Amon's doing it himself for whatever he is. During a war time, he's a pretty good king.
Starting point is 00:21:42 You give him that. He can do the things that other people can. He can do definitely better than Agon can. So he's definitely the better choice. The fact that he didn't kill them, I feel like shows that he knows how this works, sends them to the wall because the wall always needs good people, as we know. And he did it himself. So, you know, okay, Ega.
Starting point is 00:21:59 Or, Amund, that's okay. All right, fair enough. That's fair. But in this scene, they're discussing that there was a rider spotted on sea smoke. We don't know who the rider is. And Laris is vetting iron rod for the tea. All right, well, where did you hear this from? And I thought it was actually kind of funny.
Starting point is 00:22:17 He's like, well, I heard it from so-and-so, who heard it from a fisherman, who heard it from a handmaid, who heard it from a sailor, who allegedly saw it. He's like, why don't we just sit on this one for a while? like we don't need to push this one through why don't we just see if this one comes out and i don't know if that's you know them trying to be strategic about it if they're not sure if it's true or if laris is trying to find the right time to maybe tell agon because he's wanting to be an agon's team now i didn't really understand and i also wasn't a hundred percent on why iron rod was scared to offer that information up to amen like that's a way to move yourself up on this council
Starting point is 00:22:56 and in this game a little bit. So they both decide to just sit on this one. Yeah, I mean, I think Iron Rod made the right decision because it was a whisper down the lane type of situation. Let's go to the master of whispers. I think Laris doesn't want to tell Amon because he knows that Amund is rash in his decision making. He's already on Amon's shit list.
Starting point is 00:23:19 So I'm not going to bring him some secret that I didn't hear for myself that I heard from you, who heard from your squire, who heard from a fisherman. and so on. But I think it's kind of funny because if they had brought this to Amon's attention, maybe Amos would have started to think the same thing, Reneer is, hey, if this guy who we don't even know who he is is riding Seas Smoke, we don't know of any other high-born Valerians, maybe it's possible that other people can ride dragons. And then they start recruiting people because they didn't do that. It leaves the door open for Renera to do that. And Amund is completely blindsided at the end of the episode when he sees Ulf up there on Silver Wing and he's like,
Starting point is 00:23:56 holy shit, who the hell is this guy? Let's go after him. So now it's really starting everything up. If they had told him, he may have started to think about ways that he could go about it. Maybe he takes Vagar right over to Dragonstone and just takes out C-Smoke right away. There's a lot of different things that Aymond could have done in that situation before we had the other people go claim to other dragons. So by not telling him, it kind of fucked it up.
Starting point is 00:24:19 Which is interesting. And it's also, they were under the impression, at least Ironrod, was that Raina was the one riding sea smoke. Obviously, that's the easy answer, but Laris is like, well, she tried that. Didn't work. She almost died. And he's like, yeah, but we, you know, they, I think you're right. That's actually a really funny premise is that if you actually did come through this time,
Starting point is 00:24:41 you might have actually done a great service to the crown. Instead, you got a fuck Damon and literally almost got him killed, which would have been awesome. That's another thing. We haven't gotten like the shocking deaths this season, really. Nope, not really. And we haven't had anybody where I'm like, oh, my God, they, they, I can't believe they killed him.
Starting point is 00:24:59 So that, that's something I'm missing as well. But let's keep cruising along. We get to the council, uh, at team black at Dragonstone and Ranira is not present. But the whole scene is to just tell you how people are taking this, okay, we're going to stick whoever on a dragon and, and who the fuck claims he smoke? Like, are you kidding me? So we're just a bunch of lowborn. now. Nobody has any honor. They're not from the high table. They're not whatever. Anybody can have a
Starting point is 00:25:28 dragon. And it's kind of losing the mystique of what being a dragon rider is. But Reneer is on the team of we've got people. We've got dragons. Let's take advantage of this. This is our leg up. They have armies. They have countless armies. We know that they have people. We don't have people yet because no one's talked to Damon because he's in Harrenhol doing ayahuasca. So we need to do what we can. We have people to ride dragons. We can't get stuck on the fact that they're common folk. and the whole council and what's is that sir alf alfredo sir alf who's a fucking the bald guy that got slapped bartolome oh that's baltimore oh by i yeah baltimore no no no it's ralph room is the other guy no this is uh yeah baltso fuck bartamos oh barbartimus yeah
Starting point is 00:26:14 lord bartimus is causing shit again into council and corlis is present this time and this is a very important moment, I think, for that counsel as a whole. They're trying to undermine Reneer while she's not there and be like, Corliss, this is insane. We're just letting all these randos ride dragons. Like, come on, dude. Like, take the helm here. Let's talk some sense and Renier.
Starting point is 00:26:36 Get the shit under control. Yeah. And by Corliss saying, we're going to follow suit. She's not here to tell us what's going on. So until that time comes, why don't you, everybody just shut the fuck up? We're just going to just shut the fuck up and listen to our queen. She seems to have a plan. I'm the hand of the queen.
Starting point is 00:26:51 So I'm not going to step on toes with Sir Bartamus who needs, we need to kill him. He needs to die. Yeah, he needs to die. There's really no use for him except for undermining. And if you get him to a point where he says something and it ends up being true or right or it's the right move and nobody did anything about it, he is going to get all high and mighty about it. So let's just nip him in the bud. Let's just get rid of him.
Starting point is 00:27:14 Let's see if he can claim a dragon. Let's find another dragon. We'll go find who's left. We got the cannibal dragon somewhere out there. let's go have the cannibal dragon pop up and maybe Bartamis will die that would be really i would love that i'm i'm game for that i also would love cannibal dragon to show up at the end of this episode next episode in the finale and just kill vagar out of nowhere like no one even talks about and all of a sudden this rando dragon how big is cannibal dragon do we know
Starting point is 00:27:45 because we know vermithor is second biggest in the in the kingdom uh i don't have any Is he ties on cannibal? I don't think we have a size chart on cannibal. I think the understanding is that if he's eating other dragons, he's probably really big. That's what I feel like the word is out there. But nobody's really sure. I don't think they've seen them. I would love if that's the big shocking death, is cannibal dragon just decapitates
Starting point is 00:28:11 Vagar with one? That would be sick. But let's get back to it. We get Reneera and Masaria, because Reneer does she, I like this. move to is like not going to go to the council she lets them know hey tell them i'm not showing up fuck them i'm going down to my library cave with masaria which is where i do my actual thinking and they're walking through what they've just discovered that apparently if you do have a little dash of targary in you you can ride a dragon and massari says well let's go look for bastards
Starting point is 00:28:43 you want to look for bloodlines and the in the scrolls which jace has already pointed to the fact that this might just be propaganda, we don't really know. We've got countless bastards. Let me tell you, I've been in the brothels, Renira. There are so many of you Targaryen bastards out there. How many did she say? It was so funny. It was like five score or something.
Starting point is 00:29:06 Yeah, four or five score of bastards. And again, we talked about this last week, the words that they use, where they sometimes will go to modern words, and then they'll pop back and just use 10 and 6. He's not 16. He's 10 and 6. So now we're going to use score to quantify things. Okay. Now we're going back to Abe Lincoln.
Starting point is 00:29:24 So I don't know. Yeah, well, this predates Abe, I would imagine. I don't know for sure. I don't think Abe was still alive when dragons were around. That's the shocking reveal is that this took place during the same time as like in the U.S. Abe Lincoln's president right now. Yeah. And in Westeroz, this is all going on at the same time.
Starting point is 00:29:44 That's the crossover that is going to shock the world. when Abe Lincoln gives the Gettysburg address at Dragonstone. And it was going to be just like, but Reneira is concerned as well that because these are quote unquote lowborn, they're going to lack honor. They're going to lack that certain genesiswa, if you will, of being a highborn. And Masaria very intelligently points to, okay, let's look at that a little bit. Let's dive into this and think about some other highborns that we know. Agon, Amand, we can keep going.
Starting point is 00:30:25 Pretty much anybody that grew up in Kings Landing. Maybe we should trust the people that are like, holy shit, I just got a dragon. Thanks, Queen. I'll do anything for you. That seems like a better idea to me than trusting these highborn, self-righteous, self-entitled pieces of shit. But that's just me. So I'm glad Masaria is there to be the voice of reason for this because I also like
Starting point is 00:30:45 the idea that the army that's going to potentially take down team green is like a bunch of rag tag like bastards from the tavern that just got the second biggest dragon in the entire kingdom and silver wing who is one of the fastest ones is that correct yeah yeah that's a that's a good storyline that's like very revolutionary war like let's it's a really good storyline it's very funny and i love putting this conversation between rinera and messaria juxtaposed against Jace and Reneira because Reneira starts off in the same idea that Jace has. Well, we don't really want these lowborn scum on the back of dragons. I don't want to deal with any of this.
Starting point is 00:31:26 And Masaria talks her down a little bit. Now all of a sudden, Reneer is like, okay, yeah, that makes a little bit of sense to me. But when Jase comes in and he says, I don't want these mongrels riding dragons, she's like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, pump your brakes, buddy. That's a little hateful. Like, we don't talk like that about our small folk. Like, no, you just did it 10 minutes ago. But your girlfriend just said it.
Starting point is 00:31:44 so now all of a sudden you're thinking it. So I don't really, I love that. And I also love the fact that Brunera is, like you said, not present at the small council, her own small council because she's tired of those men. Let's let Corlis deal with that. I get shit done when me and my girl are just sitting in a library together. That's when I get everything done.
Starting point is 00:32:01 Yeah, I'll be in the library dungeon with my lady. And you idiots can be up there talking to Corlis. Great plan. But speaking of Corlis, you get this scene with Adam of Hull and Corlis and Adam is in his room at Dragonstone, which it's a very nice room. And this is like his come up. This is, you know, he's finally made it.
Starting point is 00:32:22 His whole life, he's wanted to be somebody. He's wanted to matter. And he's wanted to be seen as worthy of Corlis. And that's what this entire scene was. And Corliss even, the way that he's carrying himself in this, it's almost like a father's son. I'm proud of you moment. Like, look at you. Look at my boy.
Starting point is 00:32:41 Look at my boy. You made it. and you pulled yourself up by your bootstraps and you got here without me. I'm proud of you. We're going to hug later. Now's not the time, but I'm proud of you.
Starting point is 00:32:52 There's two of you that I have to deal with now. I already promoted Alan because he saved me and I already know what he is. Rainis already gave me shit about that. It was basically her dying wish to have Alan be rising up to my ranks. Now I've got to deal with a second one. What? You just hop on the back of the dragon.
Starting point is 00:33:05 I got to recognize you. Yeah, I feel like he was like, fuck. Like now everybody's going to know that I have bastards. How am I supposed to explain? in this one. Like, hey, why do they know you so well? Why do they kind of look like you? What the hell is this about? Uh, you know, it just kind of happens when you work on my ship
Starting point is 00:33:20 for so long. You just start to look like me. Okay, Corlis, great. That's awesome. My counter to that would be, what does he have left to lose? I don't think he's going to care if people know he has bastard at this point. So that's where for me, I took it more as a, like this, this moment of this is my family now. And you, you're here with me now. That's how I saw it. Yeah, we'll have to see how he handles it in the next episode because I feel like if he was in the I've got nothing to lose, who cares anymore, he probably would have said, ah, that might be my bastard to somebody. But instead he's just kind of keeping it close to the chest and talking to Adam directly. So we'll see. I think it's funny because Adam was probably, this might be the first time that Corliss has directly spoken to Adam.
Starting point is 00:34:05 And he's like, oh, dad, daddy, papa. Can I give you a hug? Dad, are you proud of me yet? No. I'm on your son's dragon. I'm also your son. How about that? Maybe I give you a hug. Who knows? This is a really nice room. We can hang out here. Catch up over the last 27 years. But no, I want to see what he does because if he obviously, if he steps up and says, yeah, these are my bastards. I don't know anything about their mother, which he has a conversation with Alan a little bit later. Maybe we look in a little bit more to that. And then Jace is appeased a little bit because there might be some Targaryen blood in there. And you can calm down. There's not Mongrels on the back of dragons. There's Gargarian blood in there. It's okay, buddy. I'm excited to get to that scene. I think that's it. That was an interesting plot scene for me is the Jace Renera conversation. But before we get there, this scene was great. And whoever that kid is playing Oscar Tolly is phenomenal. He did a great job. I really, really liked. This was the first scene at Heron Hall in three weeks where I'm like, this I fuck with. I
Starting point is 00:35:03 like this. And there's actual people and not just ghosts in Damon's mind. That too. Maybe that is it there's actually real people to talk to but their first interaction it's just oscar tolly with damon and damon is under the impression once again because this is how he's kind of led into the riverlands was i'm the shit i've got a dragon people are scared to me they're going to revere me and bend the knee and do whatever i want here is this teenage boy who comes in there and is not really phased by any of it and that's been the sentiment of the riverfolk up until this point is they're not really that turned off by Damon. They're not like, ah, they're kind of like, we deal with the old gods.
Starting point is 00:35:47 Those guys are fucked up. That's eye for an eye shit. We're not worried about you and your mythical magic dragon. The Bermuda pieces, I don't give a shit. Go fuck yourself, which I love that. It's very, you know what the Riverlands are? Riverlands are kind of Philly. They're kind of Philly.
Starting point is 00:36:02 Yeah, bit Philly. Neighborhoods want to fight amongst each other. But at the end of the day, if you go after Philly or the Riverlands, we're going to unite is one and tell you to go fuck yourself. Yeah, I think it's, maybe they got that inspiration from Philadelphia, so you're welcome, Game of Thrones writers. And tell us that they didn't. No, you can't disprove that.

Starting point is 00:37:36 Tim's new scrambled egg loaded croissant. croissant no matter how you say it start your day with freshly cracked scrambled eggs loaded on a buttery flaky croissant try it with maple brown butter today at timbs at participating restaurants in Canada for limited time he lets damon know yeah we can go out there yeah the river lords are here yeah we're going to discuss this whole thing but uh it might be difficult because uh they all fucking hate you so just to let you know this may not go the way that you're thinking of and that showed you in that little one off he's not scared of damon at all he's a kid he's like yeah we'll see how it goes bud and he doesn't fully go into it he just kind of tease it up but also seems like
Starting point is 00:38:21 yeah you know we'll go figure this out together and he saves the i guess the haymaker for a little bit later and they go outside they talk to the river lords and damon once again is under the impression i'm going to walk out here take care of business I got Oscar Tolley on my side. I don't care if they hate me. It doesn't matter. I just need them to fight for me. But he finds out very quickly that they will not just fight for anybody.
Starting point is 00:38:48 They need to believe in what they're fighting for. They're not going to fight for a tyrant. They don't care. Once again, burn them to the ground. Who gives a shit? We've done it this way. Forever we followed House Tully. We've believed in them.
Starting point is 00:38:57 We're going to do that now. But we've got some grievances. We need to err. And you need to rectify the situation or we're going to walk. And this is when Oscar starts to dive in. And he, for better or worse, since we are a Bravo-centric podcast, he reads Damon to filth. Oh, yeah. He reads him to filth.
Starting point is 00:39:17 But as he's talking to everybody and saying, you know, fuck this guy. I hate this guy. Yeah, you know, we made an oath ever so long ago. My grandfather made the oath to bend the need of Reneira and honor King Vassaris. But I don't know if we can do that anymore because you're a big old piece of shit. And I'm not sure we can be on your team. Damon tries to check and says, Mind your tongue, boy. And this is when
Starting point is 00:39:40 this entire thing is part of the vision quest. It's part of this whole journey that Damon's been on. This is a lesson in humility. This is, yeah, you can get what you want, but you're not always going to be able to just stab people and burn them to the ground to get what you want. You need to bend the need
Starting point is 00:39:56 to them also. And it's that mutual respect almost or just the idea that you are not all powerful and to get what you want and to move forward in this game. want to be king or just respected and move how you want to move you need to be able to meet them halfway and show signs of humility be able to take shit from a kid of all people like what is you 14 maybe a 14 year old i think he's 14 and 10 and 4 but 10 and 4 my bad 10 and 4 so that's what
Starting point is 00:40:26 i got from this scene yeah now i got the same thing and it's really funny because it starts off with damon and uh tully walking out together and damon gives them the old gratuitous like pat on the back like you're going to go you're going to do great talking to these guys don't worry about it i got you you need any help you come right right to pop at damon i'm the king consort so you i got you pal and during all of this it's really funny too and i think that we're starting to see damon is realizing there are consequences to his actions i would have one loved to have seen the river lords kind of pulling up together getting off their horses maybe somebody locks eyes with will and blackwood and they're like you scumbag i can't wait to
Starting point is 00:41:03 get in there because something bad happened to you yeah Yeah, like, let me see a little bit of animosity. Like, we just find out in, like, a couple of seconds that Will and Blackwood's just standing over there. It's like, okay, Blackwood's there. Nobody's trying to kill him. Kind of surprised by that. So let's see how this one plays out. And we get a little glimpse into what Oscar Tully's going to be like.
Starting point is 00:41:22 And he's a lot like, what's her name from, uh, fuck, from Game of Thrones? Uh, it's, oh, God. It's going to bother me. Oh, Leon Amormon. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So it's a lot like her. She stands up. He stands up. He's talking way wiser than his years. He's learned a lot. And he is standing with the entire force of the Riverlands. And he's saying to Damon, look, you need us more than we need you. We can just go back to our normal shit. We can worry about the Blackwoods and the Brackens going back and forth. We can worry about people fighting amongst themselves. But we're not going to give you an entire host if you're not going to respect us. So yeah, it worked out pretty well for him. He looks great. I want to see more from him. And I think that's what it's doing is setting the table for him because there was questions answered from the river lords as well. Are we really going to take orders from a kid?
Starting point is 00:42:14 Are you able to command this role? And this entire scene is not only will Damon be able to show humility to get what he needs out of this, but can Oscar Tully garner the support of the Riverlords to become a player in this game in some facet in the future next season, whatever? I think we're going to get a lot more out of Oscar Tully. I think that's what this scene was about is showing like, yeah, I'm a kid, but try me, motherfucker, watch what I do. And that's exactly what he does. And he says flat out, yeah, we'll give you our army, but you need to give us justice.
Starting point is 00:42:48 Go kill your little minion. You pledged fealty or he pledged fealty to you and you were going to take him up the ranks, take care of him if he did your bidding. You got to kill him now. And this is that letting go entirely from Damon. And I think that between this and the scene that we. get right afterwards with Fasiris, I think that's exactly what it was. This is that moment I talked about last week, I believe, and it could be more. If there's another vision, I'm going to lose my
Starting point is 00:43:17 fucking mind. I'm done with him. But I think that this is the moment where he relinquishes all control of, I can make things happen, I can will it into existence, I can put my sword to people's neck or my dragon, and they will do what I want them to do. Instead, I think that, I think the conversation will jump right into it after he kills sir will and blackwood he gets the vision with vassaris and vassaris it's like grizzled vassaris after he's falling apart because he got cut by the iron throne and he's got the crown and he's saying to him do you still want this i never wanted this all this thing does is crush you it's such a heavy burden to carry are you sure you still want i think that damon is starting to understand finally the nuances of being the king of what it actually
Starting point is 00:44:04 takes to be the king how heavy it is to be the king you have to like killing will and blackwood other people moving around you with oscar toli making him do different things like it's not so cut and dry as i'm all powerful i'm almighty so i'm hoping that this is that transition of damon maybe getting to a point now where he understands what it means to be king and now he no longer wants to be king now it's too much for him because he sees all the different sides of and he's like fuck i overlooked all of this because of my own ego my own hubris whatever it may be i don't know if i want to do this anymore and they don't even give you it's they leave it ambiguous yeah and i think a really important distinction here during the the heading of will and blackwood is if lord tully
Starting point is 00:44:50 told somebody else to do it he had one of his other river lords he had bracken come over and chop off will and blackwood's head yeah it could be satisfying but damon wouldn't give a shit damon would be like okay like whatever you're just a minion that i used you're a pawn that i used so that i could further my claim so that i can go to king's landing i've got an army i can show rinerer that i did all of these things and she can respect me again instead him having to carry out the justice as you will yes which is what we saw episode one season one of game of thrones ned stark you have to go out there you have to be the big man with the sword you have to carry out the justice no matter what so now we see damon doing that the fact that he actually has to get his hands dirty this is something that
Starting point is 00:45:29 he has to do himself in front of everybody else to get his respect. I think that shows a little bit of growth. Like he didn't battle back. He completely ignored Will and Blackwood. Fine. That's normal Damon. But he's also saying, okay, you need me to do this. I will do it.
Starting point is 00:45:42 I'm not going to give it a second thought. I'm pulling my sword right out, chopping his head off. Let's move on right into the Vassaris thing. He doesn't really want the ground anymore. He's gotten closer to his brother in the afterlife, which is weird. He's got a lot closer. He's a lot more respect for him. So when Vassaris is sitting there saying, you don't want this anymore.
Starting point is 00:45:59 or he's probably going to listen to him this time around. And he doesn't want it because I think he's realizing all of the things that he's been going through, all of his actions have so many repercussions that are completely crushing him already. And he's not even king. So why would you want that? Because it's only going to get worse from here. So I think we'll hopefully not see another vision.
Starting point is 00:46:16 I think we're done with the vision quest. Maybe we'll see him return to Dragonstone. Maybe we'll see him do something else. I don't know. Maybe Renere'll just go straight up to Harenhall and go see the host that he has from the riverlands. I don't know. But we need to get him the fuck away from.
Starting point is 00:46:29 Iron Hall because I am so tired of it. Yeah, it's time for war crime, Damon, to come back. And I think that it's interesting to pin this scene directly before jumping to Agon. And you see Vassaris, obviously, he's literally falling apart. Pieces of them are falling off. He's deteriorating. That's a result of the crown.
Starting point is 00:46:51 That's a very obvious theme right there is this is what happens. Like, look physically what it did to me. Flash over to the current king in standing. Agon is remarkably similar to what Vassaris looked like at the end of his life. He's even missing his ear. That was intentional, I believe, to show you. Yeah. By the way, this is the current king, and he is also in pieces.
Starting point is 00:47:15 He's all in tatters. So this is what it means to be king. You can arguably do more as Damon, the free lancer, if you will, going about doing whatever you want to do. Then you could by having to go through all the bells and wheels. whistles and jump through hoops of being the king so in this scene with agon he's trying to learn out a walk again i got a little confused because laris comes there and he goes oh you're pushing him too hard and the grand mason's like i'm doing literally what you told me to do and then laris is like and he needs to walk again in two hours like you just told him he's pushing him too hard
Starting point is 00:47:48 i think that was so i think the i think the door was still open because i thought that confused the hell out of me too but i think the door was still open and he didn't want the king's guard or anybody else hearing that this is what's going on. So somebody walking and saying, oh, you're pushing him too hard was to keep up appearances because Agam was screaming his head off in pain when he fell. So the rest of the castle is like, oh, shit, what the hell is going on there? Oh, my God, you're pushing them too hard. I'm just kidding.
Starting point is 00:48:13 You keep on going. You're doing great, baby. Let's just keep on going. Don't worry about it. I'm just kidding. All right. Yeah, let's do this. But Laris is, again, we talked about this last week, he's furthering his claim to be
Starting point is 00:48:25 agon's right hand man again you control the king you control the kingdom you can control your own destiny so he's trying to cozy up there because he already tried to cozy up to amen that it did not work so let's go after the crippled burnt king that's sitting in there i can get on his good side and if something ever happens i can get him the fuck out of here and then i'll control whatever destiny comes my way so that's what he's doing he's just trying to further his position yeah and i think we talked about that last week of what agon's storyline is going to evolve into eventually he's going to have to flee the castle and Lars is going to get him out of there and they're going to be hiding together somewhere and Lars is going to be pulling the strings.
Starting point is 00:49:03 And it looks like from scenes from next week, that's exactly what's about to happen. Right. So just saying, if we predicted that one, I'm just saying, because we like the credit around here. We like credit.
