Bussin' With The Boys - Austin Dillon & Paul Swan On Winning The Daytona 500 + Getting Matching Butt Tattoos

Episode Date: July 2, 2026

Welcome back to another episode of Racin’ With The Boys. This week, Taylor is joined by Austin Dillon and Paul Swan of Richard Childress Racing. Swan is a friend of the show and we all know he a...lways brings the energy. The boys get right into Austin and Paul’s friendship and how their bromance began. The two actually had a reality tv show, “Austin Dillon’s Life in the Fast Lane” with Paul and his wife.  Austin dives into how started his racing career and what it is like being the grandson of the legendary Richard Childress. Austin also tells the hilarious story of what it was like meeting his wife and how their relationship, along with Paul and his wife, began. Paul and Austin’s wife, Whitney, are much more alike while Austin and Paul’s wife, Mariel, match each others energy. Austin and Paul talk about how much athleticism is required in the sport of NASCAR. The majority of the pit crews are made up of former D1 football players and are legit athletes. Austin is an athlete himself but doesn’t want to say that all NASCAR drivers are athletic because there is some evidence out there that points to the contrary.  Finally, Austin gets into who his biggest rivalries are in the sport and how one of the rivals actually went at his family. This is a fun pod where you can really see Austin and Paul’s personalities shine. Enjoy fellas.   0:00 Intro2:26 “Life In The Fast Lane” 5:16 Austin Paul Friendship 6:36 Austin Is An Athlete 10:59 Can Swan Be Too Much?19:32 Getting Into Racing 23:10 Meeting His Wife30:11 Waxing Crescent Knowledge33:12 Thoughts On Talladega Nights34:54 Chasing Having A Son43:08 The Boys Got Butt Tattoos51:34 Former Athletes Becoming A Part Of The Pit Crews1:02:43 Paul v McVay 1:05:23 NASCAR Drivers Are Athletes1:08:59 Being The GM Of The Carolina Cowboys1:19:19 Austin’s Interests Outside Of NASCAR1:21:54 Austin’s Rivalries1:36:51 Gifts For The Pit Crew1:38:32 Describe These Drivers In One Word1:43:27 Paul Was A DOG In FootballSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Starting point is 00:01:42 ladies gentlemen welcome to another episode of racing with the boys we have two very special individuals with us, Austin Dillon and Paul Swan. Let me tell you something real quick. RCR racing. You see it on my get-up, what I have taking place right here. These boys came in with a hell of a lot of energy. AD over here walks up. We're like, hey, hit a couple.
Starting point is 00:02:01 You have two options when it comes to the bench press. You can hit one or two just to prove to the world that you guys are truly athletes or you can set the fucking tone. Set the tone, maybe. And they set the tone with 16. A round of applause for AD on the 16 out there. Hey, I said 15 and that guy got 16. I thought he was going to end at 12.
Starting point is 00:02:18 I thought he was going to end at 12. No, he ain't no bitch. He ain't no bitch at all. Talk to me about your two love story. Also, was it life in the fast lane? Yeah. Reality TV show. Do you watch that?
Starting point is 00:02:31 I watch what we watched like a trailer for it? Yeah. They did that. What was the process of jumping into reality TV? I know that was probably a very smooth transition for you. Buddy, for me, I loved it. Camera came on. You're like, oh, cameras on.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Swanee's showing up, baby. Yeah. Swani's showing up. I know. Austin, he was a little more hesitant with it, I'd say. Oh, I've got to play dad my entire life with Paul. Yeah. Oh, I bet. Yeah, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:02:55 Anything goes with him. So I'm always the restrictor plate. Yeah. It's speedway racing without a restrictor plate with Paul. Yeah, it's physical beats you around a little bit. And when I saw the trailer, it seemed like your wife, it was more in the Paul lane of like, oh yeah. She's a hundred miles an hour also.
Starting point is 00:03:09 She's juiced. We always talk about it. Merrill and I are more in line on like the way we do things. Because they both got to keep doing on. wide open. Yeah, no doubt. He's had to have some tough talks with me before and kind of kind of pull the reins in and scold me a little bit. But you're just a Labrador Retriever, man. You're like, hey, hey, hey, hey, you're like, oh, I'm so sorry. I'll never fucking do that again. I'm so sorry. I am so sorry. He goes around the corner. He has grown up a lot. Like, we did
Starting point is 00:03:35 have a YouTube show together. Like, we had the barn life. We had a little podcast going back in the day. What happened? What happened to do it? We gave up. Yeah. Shout out that kid. We should have kept. quit we had mcalfrey on there we had a bunch of chris lane we had some good people come on we we had fun with it we won the 500 i did a show right after the 500 on it you know paul loved to have a full glass of whatever he wanted in there so it got pretty wild had the tequila flowing yeah a little something little tequila water yeah oh it's hydrant we're hydrating while we're having fun yeah exactly is that your go-to tequila oh yeah every time yeah what about you dilly um truthfully i don't drink is
Starting point is 00:04:15 that much. But like... But if you were to have one. Like, I like... Is it tequila guy? I like tequila guy? Yeah. I like tequila, but...
Starting point is 00:04:22 Yeah. I want to go beer more now. Yeah. Like, just a nice draft. A nice bud light. Okay. A nice bud light. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:29 Yeah. A nice bud light. Clean, crisp, delicious. So this, uh... Jack and Coke be good, too. Dead and Coke solid. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:37 Something I feel like... Am I right? Somebody. Yeah. Something about that Coca-Cola. Yeah. It's nice. Smooth.
Starting point is 00:04:42 It is on a hot summer day when you got a good sweat, You only have a little sip of that. That's the best after race drink. Not going to lie. Really? I don't believe that. You're not about that? I do.
Starting point is 00:04:51 I do it every time. You're really? You're actually like an ice cold Coke after sweating for four hours. You're a pull from the handle type of guy. You got that guy on a half gallon boy. Back in the day, he's the best drink you could possibly have. Back in the day you should carry a backpack around two liters in there. Those camel backpacks.
Starting point is 00:05:08 Oh yeah. Just ready to go. Just out there. Get a nice little drink. It doesn't matter what was in it. We were just getting a good drink. Love that, dude. And so you say he's growing up a lot.
Starting point is 00:05:18 Yes. Okay. Give me like an image of Paul Swan when you first met him. Because you guys, what, you have noticed here for over a decade. So Paul came in, his mane was flowing, had a chain and diamond studs in the ears. Oh, I got to go back to where he's at the Macs, bro. I try to find the biggest cubic Zs I could. I was the same way in college.
Starting point is 00:05:37 I was the same way, dude. You got to have it. My dad told me growing up, he's like, you know. Right there's the dirty slick with the big. Cubic Z's. That's a crazy combination of the, that was the mafia pinstripe suit with the Kubrick circoneum earrings. The pinstripes was all the rage back in the 2010s.
Starting point is 00:05:55 God, day, you are right about that. Because, like when I, my dad told me growing up, he's like, he can have as many tattoos as you want.
Starting point is 00:06:01 Just don't get earrings. I don't know. It was a weird thing for him. I grew up in Minnesota. I see some holes in there. Yeah. So as soon as I got to college, turned 18 and like,
Starting point is 00:06:08 a couple weeks in, I'm like, I'm getting my ears pierce. Get my ears, have some gauges for a little bit. Oh. I thought I was the man. I thought I was the man.
Starting point is 00:06:20 Did you ever have your ears pierced? No. No, yeah, you're way. Yeah, your way. My grandfather would take the belt out. Yeah. R.C.'s not letting it happen. No shot.
Starting point is 00:06:28 You do that kind of stuff, huh? Right. We don't do that. We don't do that, sir. Where'd you grow up at? North Carolina. North Carolina. And was racing always what you wanted to do growing up?
Starting point is 00:06:39 Well, I mean, I grew around it because my dad raced, my grandfather. But I played other stuff. sports. I love sports in general. Right there. Look at that boy. Look at that. I stopped growing after 12, so it's kind of hard to keep going down that path. But at 12, you're a monster, dude. Yeah, I could play. Were you the cat, like the 12 year old that were like, you hit puberty faster and everybody else? No, I was still small. Really? Yeah, littlest guy on the team. But hey, he was scrappy. He was a dog out there at shortstop. No, second base.
Starting point is 00:07:03 Oh, Robbie was. Yeah, my boy, Ravi, uh, we turned a double play in the Southeast region, got sports center top then. It was like Harold. Rastie. How awesome is that? Yeah. God, you get sports. Watch a little league world series. Talking baseball, you got a little baseball prowess.
Starting point is 00:07:18 We saw that first pitch. Oh, you saw, yeah, we've seen my work. We said, we've seen my art. We've seen your game.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Yeah, I'll be honest with you, dude. It's never really been great. Like, I grew up, like baseball in the, like,
Starting point is 00:07:29 yeah, that photo is so shit. Damn, look at that, man. Just put that up on the podcast or people. That's when I was training them. That's true. I was training during COVID. We get up in,
Starting point is 00:07:37 like, what, four, four, five in the morning. Damn, just crush it. Sneaking into the weight room during COVID when everything was shut down. I showed up with a new haircut one day and they freaked out on me because they're like, do you go get your haircut?
Starting point is 00:07:50 And I'm like, well, yeah, I like, I needed a cut. I don't want to get out of control. And they're like, oh, yeah, they stormed out. They stormed on, triple boosted. Yeah, yeah. You got to get a haircut. You got to get a haircut. Big mask guy.
Starting point is 00:08:03 And he's so he stormed out. I'm getting out of here. I can't be around you. I got a fucking wrong. My wife was pregnant at the time. Fair enough. She was. My wife was pregnant during COVID, too.
Starting point is 00:08:13 And that was a... Because you hear all the war stories that took place. Like, if you have COVID, like, I got COVID two or three weeks before my second daughter was born. Damn, you fell victim, dude. I fell victim. Yeah. Hey, listen, I'm still here, aren't I? You are.
Starting point is 00:08:28 Yeah. Stronger for it. Stronger for it. And I get it. And it was, like, still in the, like, hey, like, what? It's like, are people really just dying, left, right, and center on this thing? and so my wife was giving birth in like three weeks and she's like if you test positive
Starting point is 00:08:41 they could take our baby there was always the fear thing taking place I ended up being fine about a week before ended up having the baby everything worked out but the pregnancy game is kind of terrifying during that time huh yeah I was just trying to be as safe as we could this guy's a wild card so
Starting point is 00:08:58 yeah right still trying to go hang out do stuff have fun dude I mean how dare you they were getting on me about it I can't help myself yeah exactly You gotta get out there. I gotta get out there.
Starting point is 00:09:09 Yeah. And it'd be free. I know. He's also got that blood where he just never gets sick. I don't know. He licks commercial plane seats. See him to do it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:18 Actually, yeah, you were part of that Tick-Tock trend, weren't you? Well, I'll see. There's people walking up chewing people's chewed gum. No problem. No problem. Yeah, I have no problem doing that. My wife is like, she's big germaphobe and like, she does not like when I do stuff like that. So we got on the plane.
Starting point is 00:09:31 I'm like, I know. How many people do? We are on a pocket. Do you have you actually lick the seat before? Yes. I'm getting to it. So we were, we got on the plane. I wouldn't lie about it here.
Starting point is 00:09:42 I just wanted to, like, prove to her like I wasn't going to get sick. And I said, Merrill, watch this. And I gave a little lick. And she's like, she was ready to annihilate me. She wanted to get off the plane. She didn't want to go where we were going anymore. We landed. And she's like, I can't fucking believe you did that.
Starting point is 00:09:57 I'm so sick of you doing this stuff. I'm disgusted. Yeah. We're going to have problems. And I'm like, wow, all right. So you're really mad. Dude. Don't do that again.
Starting point is 00:10:06 Yeah. Yeah, don't link plane seats again. Yeah, we just told a full grown adult to not do that. That's a crazy move. I couldn't imagine you. I didn't get sick. You were a sicko at ball. We'll get into that.
Starting point is 00:10:17 I was a sicko. But you are there, so you ever think about like, you hear about all these, like, things that people learn, like, there's, like, there's therapeutic things you can do in like Indonesia where they take, like, a toad poison and they scrape you. And then you all of a sudden have, like, a hallucinogenic, like coming to Jesus moment. A ayahuasca. Yeah, ayahuasca. It's like.
Starting point is 00:10:37 I sometimes think to myself, like, how do these people figure that stuff out? And you are one of those people that figure that stuff out. I could be one of the test dummies. No, you were, yeah, if we were a caveman, you'd be like, what's this toad taste? Yeah. And then all of a sudden, the poison would take over your body. But then I just, get it out of me. I'd be fine.
Starting point is 00:10:54 I'd be okay. I fully believe that. You're truly a built-in-a-lap kind of guy. Absolutely. Is he ever, is our boy Swanee, love him the death. Let's pretend like he's not here right now. Is he ever a little too much for you? At times
Starting point is 00:11:06 He's definitely been there It's mostly because we're really tight And everybody like sees us as like I don't know When he thinks of like pit crew It's me and Paul I feel like So when he does something
Starting point is 00:11:19 It's like a representative of myself sometimes So I'm like bro They link us together And if we're both being jackasses Like it's not gonna look great On us in the end There's like one time that was like I had to have a
Starting point is 00:11:33 Hey, bro. Biggest blowup you guys ever had? Pinehurst, and I wasn't with him at the time. I just saw it. He posts on social. Do you care to explain it to the audience? Yeah, he was a fire breathing dragon with tequila, and he took a bunch of tequila,
Starting point is 00:11:45 blew it across a fire, and just got up and, you know, it was a lot on social. I climbed, it was at my boy's bachelor party. I climbed to the top of this, like, 20-foot outdoor fireplace. I was up on. I think life in the fast lane was going on at this time, too. Right. So it was already kind of edgy.
Starting point is 00:12:03 I mean, you're trying to take care of great partners that we have in NASCAR. Which we have the best. We have the best. Yeah, the best partners. The best. Yeah, shout out. Yeah, shout out. Shout out.
Starting point is 00:12:13 Shout out. Winchester. So, you know, it's one of those things. And it pops up on social. Like, I'm at a racetrack the day before he gets there. So he was out golfing. So he's got to be ready for race day. And it was like the day or two before.
Starting point is 00:12:28 He's always ready. I'm always ready. I will say this. As far as people that are committed and. going to be in the gym. Like, if you want to kill somebody, I know where to find him every day at the same time. If I have something cool going on other than busting with boys, I keep jump on this. But like, if I had some legit opportunity to go do something, he really have to think about it, or he'll go in two hours early to get his workout in. Oh, nice. No doubt. I'm a four-am guy if I need to
Starting point is 00:12:50 be. Seeing him fly in from California and not go sleep, just go straight to the gym. It means more. It does. Yeah, more is required. You handle it. So I'm never worried about the preparation part. It's just the image. Yeah. And then when the tequila, Fire Breathing Dragon, that was one. And then,
Starting point is 00:13:05 like, I didn't really have to do much. I was a Targaryen, you know. Yeah. I was a Targary. That's what I said. I think I was like, I'm a Targaryen and I went right at the camera and I like almost hit the camera and like.
Starting point is 00:13:17 That was probably badass. Yeah. It was honestly. Did you delete the post? I did. Oh, no. Well,
Starting point is 00:13:23 you know what? Merrill. I thought you did because we would have, I might have, I might have archived it. So it's, it's probably still. It's probably still around there.
Starting point is 00:13:31 He's got it somewhere. Maybe I'll drop it one of these days again. Put it back out there. Has a sponsor ever called you about Paul? No, just, you know, maybe a executive at our company, maybe like, hey, like, yeah, I know. Yeah, yeah, the WWE stuff, your pit crew guy is doing. We should probably tone that down. The sponsors love.
Starting point is 00:13:51 Hey, and I've had that conversation. People have had that conversation with me too. Absolutely. GM pulls you in the office. Be like, hey, we appreciate what you're doing. Yep. That's pretty much how it goes. But there's a lot of stuff that you need to.
Starting point is 00:14:00 maybe just tone that down one or two. I get it. Yeah, turn the volume down a little bit. I don't know if you're like me, like I'm an overcompensate guy. Like if you tell me, hey, I need you do this better. I'll do that as far this way. And it's like, okay, well, come back a little bit. We just don't think he ever goes to.
Starting point is 00:14:14 I've never seen him go that way. Never done that. No, he just kind of one step and it. Yeah. Maybe I'll slow down a little. Labrador retriever, dude. His wife's the best restricter plate, truthfully for him. She knows how to get there.
Starting point is 00:14:25 Both of them. Austin and my wife are like, they, they definitely. It's nice to have that. Yeah, 100%. I need a guy like this in my life. That's your will content right there. Yes, 100%. Hey, shout out Willie Vacations.
Starting point is 00:14:35 I hope I'm doing justice to your, I hope I'm doing justice to your chair, brother. We miss you. We don't even know where he's at right now. We thought he was going to Argentina for the longest time. Then all of a sudden it became Austria. Just pops out. Those are in two different places in nowhere, right?
Starting point is 00:14:47 Yeah. Just nuts. Probably hanging out with the Austrian team. I think they're on vacation too. Yeah. Yeah. We're always taking vacation. Sorry for you.
Starting point is 00:14:54 You can't have it one bit. So let's jump back a little bit. You were a big baseball guy. You were into baseball quite a bit. And then when did you know, like, all right, I'm, I'm going to my dad's done it. My grandfather's done it. Like, when am I going to dive into what seems like the family tradition? Yeah, my brother, he wanted to go test a race car.
Starting point is 00:15:11 Oh, look at that. And that was a long time ago. Look at those caterpillars, baby. You plucked them too. I had full unibrow, too. That was probably shave across the center. Yeah, that's one swipe of the razor down the middle. It's right down the middle.
Starting point is 00:15:24 There was no, like, you didn't, you didn't try to do anything pretty with that. Too hard. Speaking of plucking. I'm a guy, you know, he plucks his beard. I'm a big plucker. That's psycho. Not the whole thing. No, he plucks his beard line.
Starting point is 00:15:33 To get the line nice. Like you got to, you don't want to nick it. You know anybody that's a beard line. I never heard of that. So I got to pluck. Why don't you just get a guy with a razor to do it? Because you have a great beer. I don't trust anybody with my beard.
Starting point is 00:15:43 Oh, okay. Don't trust anybody. These Targaryans, man. Yeah. I mean, come on. It's beautiful.
Starting point is 00:15:49 Like, I can't grow a beer. Like, this is this is. Your stash is luscious. I haven't shaved it or trimmed it up in months. I shaved my head. So wasn't there a bet between you and Orlovsky?
Starting point is 00:16:00 And you were going to have to shave the mustache, right? And not have it again. Yeah, there was a lot of moving parts in that bet. It was, um, and I swear, AD, we're going to get back to you. I promise we're talking about your NASCAR career at some point. There was a bet between us where it was between you. It was Yukon and Michigan in the national championship for basketball. He has to wear an earring for 30 days straight audience, but still hasn't done it.
Starting point is 00:16:22 This guy's all about. though like he's like all doing sometime in july when everything's kind of down because like it's a dead period for yes yes well you got to do it when you're when you're hot you got to do it when you're hot yeah and i had like i would dye my hair blue i was willing to do whatever right because you're confident i'm confident and i love like guy to guy bets i love i love like i love money bets as well but i don't like i think i like taking someone's pride i like taking something yeah suck it suck the life out of him like will like will during the nebraska mission game this year he had to shave his head he to bick it kind of looked not bad well he honestly looked pretty good yeah i was worried for will
Starting point is 00:16:56 that he wasn't even going to be able to hair wasn't going to come back yeah that never seen hair line it's back to normal now but dan i had to do a whole bunch of things dude's like look at that that don't even look like you that's disgusting dude i mean you still handsome thanks dude i appreciate that my kids will see like they saw me i lost this bet that was to uh jack mcpherson uh our balls sicko he yeah there he is right there there was a mustache bet to show you shave versus Tennessee and Vanderbilt. And I was like kind of high on Vanderbilt, but I was more like trying to razz with Jack. Because Jack, it's he, he, if he gets in his feelings a little bit with Tennessee, like, that's a fun world to go down to.
Starting point is 00:17:34 Right. The repercussions the next few months are tough, but like that day is really fun. And he ended up winning that bed, so I lost that. The mustache is just an identity piece. I mean, honestly, it's growing on me. You look handsome there. Thank you. I do.
Starting point is 00:17:45 Look at big boy, though. Let's go down to the. Yeah. That boy right there. One to the left, the one to the left. That's the beer, though. That's as good as it gets. So that's when, yeah,
Starting point is 00:17:54 I don't know if you remember, was it Spy Kids? Yeah. Yeah. Do you remember the show Spy Kids? And there's the thumbs that were all bad guys. I, like,
Starting point is 00:18:01 that's what I had no jaw. You got a little Val Kimmer. There's something. You see the dangle of the hair right there? It's a little Valcadol-Coliday. Yep, Doc Holliday. Yeah, yeah. I'll be your Huckleberry.
Starting point is 00:18:12 So, yeah, I would go with the mustache something, but I look at like, you know, like a bullfrog with this neck. So I kind of always had like the pubic hair beard. Could never grow that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:20 Could never go to that. But, so you decided to do NASCAR. Where we go to that? Back to the old NASCAR thing. Hold on. Let's do one more. Get that top left to one. That's a lot top left photo.
Starting point is 00:18:31 Keep going. Nope. Top right photo. Excuse me. I'm sorry. Oh, look at the boy. Combine photo right there. Not bad.
Starting point is 00:18:38 That's a unit. You got the bulge out and everything. Yeah. Bulge where? Come on. Oh, that Kendall right there. That's tough. It's tough being 310, dude.
Starting point is 00:18:47 You're like, yeah, I look good. You put the same next song. You don't even think about it. all that. That thing resurfaces and I swear to God. There was some big boys back. It's better than that. It's not much better than that, but it's better than that.
Starting point is 00:18:55 Back in the showers, back in the college days, there's some big boys in there that. Yeah, dude. Offensive linemen. Tough look for the big boys. It doesn't get a button on the suit coat. It's just terrible. And then you got these DBs walking around.
Starting point is 00:19:06 Like, how the fuck do you operate? 100%. It's like crazy. It's insane. You know what I'm talking about. No, no. Never been there, bro. You've been in the group showers before.
Starting point is 00:19:13 Come on. That's the NASCAR. We don't really do that. A lot of fair-skinned individuals in this car. A lot of fair. How much of this is getting cut, by the way? Are we doing okay here? Are we doing all right?
Starting point is 00:19:25 I think this is great. This is an awesome podcast. This is great. We're over the black. This is bustle with the boys as it gets right now. Racing? You're choosing. Yes.
Starting point is 00:19:33 You're in the baseball. You're not growing. You're a hell of a second base one. You're killing. You're thinking about the Little League World Series. All those things. And when is somebody comes to you and be like, hey, racing's your move.
Starting point is 00:19:43 Or is it like, oh, the passion just took over. No, my brother, he wanted to go race. So we got our first test and things went pretty well. Started running these band-aero cars together about the same age. He's two years younger than me. And yeah, it just kind of progressed through the ranks and went dirt racing, which was my favorite part of it. I mean, you run like 50 races a year, around 15, 16 years old, traveling southeast, Midwest. I'd leave on Thursdays from school and be gone on the weekends. It was epic all the way. through high school. And your family's all about it.
Starting point is 00:20:18 Oh, yeah. I mean, that's all my family knew. My mom, you know, she grew up around my dad and my grandfather racing. And so she was ready for it. And, yeah, I would always, I'd win a couple races and move up. Then my brother would come through and dominate. And then I'd win a couple races and move up. And then we just kind of went that way.
Starting point is 00:20:35 No doubt. Just like one after another. Yeah, I kind of would set the tones where they'd get like a baseline setup for the cars. And then we'd go to the next level. His dad, Mike D. Hurricane. He was a racer to, the hurricane. Hurricane was his nickname.
Starting point is 00:20:47 No shit. How about that? The hurricane. Yeah. Because they could never build a race car fast enough for him. That's right, baby. Well, hold on now. He's a badass.
Starting point is 00:20:55 He's just a guy that's foot to the floor. Dude, he is one of the crazies. He broke a wall one time. He broke a wall. Yeah. Okay. The hurricane.
Starting point is 00:21:02 Let's elaborate. Let's elaborate on that a little bit. They could never build a race car to hold him inside the track. Pull up that one with the smirk right there. Where he's in the sitting in the car. Yeah. Right. Look at him.
Starting point is 00:21:14 That's a guy smoking a marble. Brother. after the race, huh? He's cursing somebody out. That's Mid curse somebody out. That's Big D. It's Mike Dillon. You think I'm wild.
Starting point is 00:21:24 Back in his heyday, he was a wild man. Dude, when you, you talked about your mom was being on to it. We had Kyle Larson on the podcast last week. And he's in, what was it? They were in San Diego. Yeah, in San Diego.
Starting point is 00:21:39 So he's out on the porch, and he's talking about his wife and how she grew up in the racing world and all that. Yeah, I saw you guys ask about his kids and stuff. That was a tough question. Yeah, no doubt. What was the question?
Starting point is 00:21:48 Which one is better? Which one has it? Yeah. Which one has it? It's funny. How many kids do you have? I have two. Which one has it?
Starting point is 00:21:55 Three and six. They're not in it yet right now. Which one are you looking at the personality? I'd be like, this one's the... Man, I'm not going to give it up yet. Come on. I'm interested to hear this. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:05 Blaze, my daughter is super feisty. Yeah. I feel like Ace and I have similar temperament. So you'll see when they develop. I feel like... Yeah, yeah. No, like I want them to... I like, I started a little late.
Starting point is 00:22:15 than most I started when I was 14 you know kids are starting like seven eight and uh actually I had the conversation with Kyle Bush about Brexton and um you know he started at six and he was like man I would wait at least till eight to get it in there yeah with the kids and running and stuff so I want them to play other sports I want them to play everything and then uh understand what it's like being on a team too because a lot of race car drivers they just go straight into racing so I feel like they miss that team aspect of understanding how to like talk and hang with the pick crew and understand like what they're going through some guys just get in there some guys just get in there and drive yeah and i i'm like a little i call that like the go-kart
Starting point is 00:22:54 mentality yeah where like you're dale earnhard at six years old and you think you've already made it so like i want them to play other things and win lose and understand the team aspect of it before they go racing listen and you're there for heart-wrenching knockouts And breathtaking triumph. 2026 FIFA World Cup. The knockout stage. Every match. Every moment.
Starting point is 00:23:24 Listen on TSN Radio. Join the globe. On the road to the July 19th final. 2026 FIFA World Cup. Stream it all live on TSN Radio. Available on IHeard Radio. That makes a whole lot of sense. But from a racing standpoint, like Larson's wife, he's super into it.
Starting point is 00:23:43 Your mom was super into it. when you met your wife, was she like in the world of NASCAR when you met her? Or did she, did she understand? I got a good story. Like the amount of like, I mean, you guys race year round, especially Kyle. Like, this huge racing. Yeah, it's insane. How much you guys are racing and working stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:24:00 And so it takes a unique spouse to be able to handle all those things. You said you had a unique story. Go ahead. Yeah. So my wife cheered to the Titans. Paul did too. You were there, bro. Fucking go.
Starting point is 00:24:10 So when I met Whitney, the first race, like I'd, I was talking to her and I tore down the catch fence at Daytona like one of the wildest wrecks ever To be pretty crazy We pulled that Did we see that a couple weeks ago? Yeah we saw that with
Starting point is 00:24:24 Absolutely insane Zilich and love So you tore down the fence We thought he was dead We were at the box like He wasn't talking on the radio I just watched eight seconds before this race So I get out and do the lane frost wave
Starting point is 00:24:36 Right after I tear the fence down It's pretty legit Yeah you know it was pretty cool And what a time to meet your wife Just doing this bad ass The day before I won the race I won the Xfinity race the day before. And during the time, she was kind of talking to me,
Starting point is 00:24:50 and she ended up being at like a lake party and ended up seeing the race I won. And, like, takes a picture with the TV, sends it to me. I'm like, oh, yeah, we're in. Yeah, I got it. Oh, daughter. The only reason I got her number is because this guy in the truck series that I used to help.
Starting point is 00:25:04 He was on the lower end of the truck series. The name's Clay Greenfield, and he had asked different stuff. Shout out Clay. Clay. Clay. I said Clay. The love matchmaker. I need this girl's number.
Starting point is 00:25:14 because I saw her to race and she was working the Monster Energy booth and he's like oh man I got you his wife Tander was on the Titans cheerleader so they get us together
Starting point is 00:25:24 and like get a phone conversation going so we started texting during that and I win the race well there's the Lane Frost race but the next day like I texted her like after the cup race because it ended like three in the morning
Starting point is 00:25:34 and I'm like hey I'm okay and she's like oh cool did you win again and I'm like no I just turn on the news yeah yeah I won award for best crash ever in NASCAR Look at that. I won the race of life.
Starting point is 00:25:46 That's not a profile picture, dude. It needs to be. Wrong. Yeah. That's a post. That's a Facebook profile pick right there. Laying in the grass. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:53 That's a, well, I'm flying through the year. I don't know what's going on. Yeah, Ricky Bobby. For sure. And,
Starting point is 00:25:57 so she, you hit her up, say, hey, by the way, I'm fine. Thanks for asking. She's like, oh, shit,
Starting point is 00:26:02 did you win? Yeah. And that's when you knew. It was a love, baby. Yeah, she's dialed in. So, we go to the next weekend,
Starting point is 00:26:09 and they come to Kentucky and she's like, I can only come if my friends come like, yeah, cool, that's fine with me. Flies them out on the PJ. No, not true. They came up. We flew back on the PJ. Yeah, they went in a rental car.
Starting point is 00:26:20 They came up from Kentucky. It was southwest first. Yeah. It works out. See if they're real ones. We got you on Spirit Airlines. Are you okay with that? She shows up to the track and I knew I was toast right when she showed up.
Starting point is 00:26:33 I looked at my other buddy, Austin Craven was like, oh, this ain't good. Which, by the way, the girls thought they were coming to the Kentucky Derry Derby. They were like, so they're dressed in the 9th. Yeah. We go to Saturday to the Xfinity race and we, I walk them up there and it was Merrill and Whitney and we, and we go and watch the Saturday race and we're coming back and I can
Starting point is 00:26:51 hear him talking in the background. And Merrill goes, so this is the, is this the Kentucky Derby? And Whitney goes, yeah, maybe I think so. But, and I was like, oh man, I love these girls. Like, they don't know nothing about this crap. So that night we end up having like a bus party in my bus and girls are doing damn. routines doing all their cheerleading routine and it's a night race the next day so oh yeah it was it was good times in there Paul came back to the to the motor home we're all
Starting point is 00:27:18 hanging out I won her over I did the magic mic dance move in the bus he's got he's got some moves you got something in you yeah he can dance I'll tell you what you little people to sleep you put up 16 reps on bench press and now you're talking about your moves it's kind of like you got a full bag he's a man of many talents brother seems like it yeah same same night my dad's over there and he was he was letting moves off in the bus too. He was hanging out. And like my mom said, hey, it's time to go. Like, your time is up. And he goes, I hope she don't break your heart. And I'm like, oh, thanks, dad. Gotcha. Yeah. Yeah. No doubt. He knew right that in there, huh? Yeah. And so,
Starting point is 00:27:53 anyways, that night, we ended up starting, we watched Days of Thunder. Because they didn't know anything about Nashville. I said, hey, we're going to watch Days of Thunder. A little bit better moving in Talladega nights to teach him about it. We'll get into Talladega nights. It'll be the next. A little education. And I'm like, you know, we'll teach you about the draft. in Days of Thunder. You know the part in Days of Thunder about the draft? I've never seen the movie.
Starting point is 00:28:12 Oh my gosh. I know. Guys, brother. All right, you got to go watch it, okay? All right. So anyways, Tom Cruise's got this girl in there and he's teaching her the draft on her leg with like the, what is that?
Starting point is 00:28:23 Like, what's the stuff you put in the sugar packets? Oh, yeah, yeah. Like sugar packets or something he's showing her all the draft on her leg. It's like a scene. I was like, I was like, teach you about the draft. Before the movie starts, I'm like, yeah, I can learn about the draft.
Starting point is 00:28:34 She's like, oh, I know what the draft is. Right. He was getting ready to do this whole scene on her lady. He's dialing it in. I'm going to fill with her a little bit. I'm going to pull Tom Cruise. All right, okay. She's like, oh, honey, I know what the draft is.
Starting point is 00:28:47 I'm in the NFL. And I'm like, I said, okay. So confident. What year is this? 2015. 2015. Okay, okay. In my brain, I'm trying to know where I'm at.
Starting point is 00:28:58 June of 2015, I believe. So anyways, I'm like, no. And she's like, what do you mean? Like, the military draft? I'm like, she, we're really, we don't have any clue. But it's great because they knew nothing about anything. They were just so green.
Starting point is 00:29:11 But her dad was refreshing to you. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. But her dad dirt bike race. So she knew like racing from that side of the thing. Like dirt bike racing and he's a GNCC racer. Well, especially for him because like, you know, a lot of these women, they're waffle bellies,
Starting point is 00:29:24 pit lizards. And I tell you, I had a running with a pit lizard in Nashville. And there was one. And it was as talented good nights as it come. And she was like screaming on the edge. You guys are going on. She's like, go get them, baby, go get them. And I'm like, oh, which one of you where she goes, you know how it is.
Starting point is 00:29:39 She's like, throws a fake thing. And she goes, just trying to reel one in. Oh, shit. It's like that, huh? Oh, I love it. You know how it is, baby. You know how it is? I'm just trying to get one of them.
Starting point is 00:29:50 I'm like, oh, shit. I've heard about y'all. This is amazing to see one of the wild. I hear about you guys all the time. I'm seeing one live right now. That's crazy. Up close and personal. Pit lizard, dude.
Starting point is 00:30:01 It's so wild. You don't know what a waffle belt is. You know, which is a waffle belly? The waffle belly. You know, the catch fence. And you get a tan when their shirts up and the waffle belly for the catch fence. Okay. And the car, you know, sometimes the cars are stopped for red flags.
Starting point is 00:30:13 So they're trying to get a hold of the drivers up against the fence and that chain link fence leaves a little waffle on their belly. I can't believe you've never heard about the waffle belly. I haven't heard about the waffle belly. I have now privy to the waffle belly. There we go. They're not endangered species. No, yeah, yeah. That's good.
Starting point is 00:30:29 They're thriving. Yeah, they're thriving. Yeah, they are thriving. It doesn't matter if it's cold or hot. It doesn't matter what series it is. It doesn't matter nothing. They're just looking for one that gets behind the wheel. That's good, man.
Starting point is 00:30:38 Talent, dude. Talent drives this economy. That's right. That's what you need. What's, uh, just being more in preview of the game of NASCAR? What's your thought on the waxing crescent? Are you guys privy to that? So I've been, I've been hearing a lot about this with, uh, with the episodes.
Starting point is 00:30:51 I'm not privy, dude. You're not. I'm just worried about doing fast pit stops. Kind of gross. You don't, like a pit crew guy should know about a watchy mastic person. I mean, I don't, I'm not the one driving the car. He's probably the one who knows a little more about it. Grip is up.
Starting point is 00:31:03 Some of my best races have been on a waxing crescent. I think the three other my wins have been on a waxing crescent. So, you know, Noah brought that information. What do we got this weekend? Yeah, what kind of moon we got? What's the lunar cycle looking like this weekend? In Chicago land, Illinois. We got to see what that is.
Starting point is 00:31:19 What kind of moon we got? Yeah, the old lunar calendar. What we got here? Full moon? So the waxing crescent, like what, it's the, like the toenail moon, right? Yeah. It's a little sliver. You've got to watch out for you.
Starting point is 00:31:30 You've got to know. You've got to bring it on a moon. Oh, man, I got a guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You just know you're able to bring along. You wake up and throttle pedals down. Something about a wax and crescent and your dad, the hurricane. Those two individuals got along real real.
Starting point is 00:31:41 He didn't understand that information. That's why he hit the wall as hard as you did. He was just fast all the time, baby, all go. I kind of mess with that. Dude, we got this, there's this big, his parents live on the lake down in North Carolina, and there's this huge train bridge that we jump off of in the summer. And we climb up at like, it's, it looks high, but when you get up there, it's even higher.
Starting point is 00:32:00 And like, you know, me and some of the boys, we're just kind of, of like stepping off and like land and well Mike his dad gets up there literally like jumps up as high as he can does a big can opener in and just he's like whoa just gets after just fine yeah something about those guys that just don't have no fear factor gets on a dirt bike will jump a big ass table top jump like it's nothing I remember where I was in a Bartlett Lake one time with my buddy and it was a weekend it was like four or five of us and there was like these little clips you could jump off it was like 20 feet 40 feet 60 80 and then 100 feet And on the top of the 100 was a place you could drive up to.
Starting point is 00:32:35 I didn't know it. So we climb up there. We did the 20. We did the 40 to the 60. 80. I was like, 60 is pretty good. 60 is pretty good.
Starting point is 00:32:42 Yeah. That was enough for me. Like, I'm good on that way. There's too much error by me. Yeah. We're up on this 100 foot one and this Jeep, this like blacked out Jeep pulls up. Some medabalisha guy with this hat like this comes out.
Starting point is 00:32:53 Triple-bite glass cans. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Had the spy glasses. Had a tattoos of pistols in his waistband. You know he means business.
Starting point is 00:33:00 And does even like, walks up to us just like what's up fellas yeah so like he was gunned up for sure comes up gainers off the hunter footer didn't even look didn't even do like one of those so like kind of look down no i just what's up and ripped it and i was like some of these motherfuckers people don't have fear yeah it is nuts so the waxing crescent we don't have a waxing crescent this weekend oh it's a winning crescent crap shit or winning givis well i mean i like low grip yeah you like low grip yeah you like riding on the fence is what you like dude.
Starting point is 00:33:31 I can. You can't, you've done it. Yeah. You're what, how many people have ever done that? Oh,
Starting point is 00:33:36 you mean in the fence? Yeah. Yeah, literally riding on the fence. Yeah, that's where I go sometimes. You're riding on it. Sometimes, unfortunately.
Starting point is 00:33:43 Let's get to the, the nitty gritty of NASCAR, dude. I've heard a lot of, uh, different reviews when it comes to Taledica nights. You guys, you even took a little shot at Taledgan nights.
Starting point is 00:33:52 Not, not a shot. This is a pro. I'm a pro, I'm a pro taladega night guy. I'm not saying you shouldn't have your truth as well. but I would love to know your thought process. Because I've heard people say it's a mockery of the sport.
Starting point is 00:34:03 And I've also heard that it's a documentary. Days of Thunder's the movie for our sport. That's the one. Yeah. So you and Ricky Bobby, you're not a shaking thing. It's hilarious though. It's funny.
Starting point is 00:34:13 I love the movie. Yeah, I would never doubt that. I would never doubt that you love that movie, dude. Absolutely. But you, when you watch that, when it came out with 2005, there's a lot of truth to it.
Starting point is 00:34:24 It's funny. It's hilarious. There is super truth to that movie. And I do love like, it's fun to stereotype. It's fun to do that sometimes. I think it adds to the sport of all that. The mystique of NASCAR.
Starting point is 00:34:36 Because even me, it's like, when we're getting into the NASCAR diving head first, it's like, oh, yeah, turn left. Pedal left and floor. Do your thing. Oh, there's a couple road courses. I learned about that. You learn to run away from those. You like ovals. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:48 Oval's only. But then you learn about like drafting. The two guys were telling me about the bubble. There's a bubble. Yeah, Jesse and Connor were. Yeah. Yeah, they were talking about bubbles, how you're like go around guys. It's just, it's a fascinating how much strategy goes into it.
Starting point is 00:35:01 See, I was trying to teach my wife about the draft. Yeah. It just didn't work out. She thought she knew. From that movie, so it didn't work out that you guys, you can get to touch the leg. It's basically what I asked. No, not that night. That's okay.
Starting point is 00:35:11 That probably paid off more from you guys down. I've only got to touch a leg twice. I got two kids. That's it. That's all you need, too. I got three. I don't have, you know, my wife's doing it a couple weeks, so I got you. Another one on the way.
Starting point is 00:35:22 Let's go. You got another one on the way. See? I mean, three girls. Wow. What's better than being a girl dad? Nothing. It's the best.
Starting point is 00:35:30 We got that on, we got that? Nothing. We got that. We got that. We got, yes. I'm with you. I told my wife when I was, I'll have as many kids as you want,
Starting point is 00:35:38 but if I have two girls in a row, I'm done. I'm not going to be the guy that chases the boy over and over. You're going to have seven kids. You finally have a boy. Tony Dews, he, he's a running back coach for the Titans or it was.
Starting point is 00:35:48 He's in, at the Patriots now, but he was at Michigan when he recruited me from Arizona. And he had four girls. And he's like, I'm, you know, chasing that boy. trying to get that boy baby and i just seen like so many coaches like that i'm like i'm not going to be
Starting point is 00:36:00 that guy sala he's got a whole fleet right dude they've all got yeah saula he's like uh book a mormon type of guy yeah right he kind of goes yeah he just got a whole got a whole army and i'm just like my wife talked me into it and my biggest regret in our marriage we've been married for 10 years 10 years in april let's go congrats brother yeah i fought her from what six to zero like my youngest will be six when this one is born and it's like damn i wish i had a couple more in there now fleet Yeah, look at that whole. So you talk about like boy girl, having a boy girl. My old teammate Paul Menard, he was trying to have a boy, like legit.
Starting point is 00:36:34 And he said he was icing his balls before doing whatever it takes. That's a real thing. I have a teammate Ben Jones. He could always say he had a girl first. And then he started to read all these things. No joke having a shot of caffeine. He would take a shot of Coca-Cola right before. And ice his balls?
Starting point is 00:36:53 Ice his balls. He would get in the hot tub. up to his niece. Because there's a theory, and you can look this up, Sheffey. It's called the hot balls theory. See,
Starting point is 00:37:01 his theory was we're in race cars so much. Like the whole garage had girls. I had a boy first time. Yeah. But the whole garage is having. All right, weird flex. All right.
Starting point is 00:37:10 Taylor, I had a boy right away. What does that mean about you? All these pussies, dude. They had girls. Yeah, they all have girls. The hot, like,
Starting point is 00:37:16 thing was all the drivers are in the hot race cars, 120 degrees. Right. Have kids, and it was all coming out girls. There's like a percentage of athletes that play like to have high intensity sports like football player I think baseball's a little
Starting point is 00:37:31 like but football hockey basketball high T guys high T guys have girls but dudes that are running around a lot like it's like I guess exposes your balls to like it kills the boys that's what you got away with it huh I see I I used another trick what is your trick is this bracelet that told us when like a nice calendar no like an ovulation bracelet kept up with it but you're a man you don't ovulate. No, I didn't wear it. She does though, dude. That's the thing about women, you know. She does. We don't, they do. They do. They do. Three years ago. Second time we didn't use anything. Just went for it. It was perfect. You got one of each. Are you done with the kids? Uh-huh. Shutting it down. I'd have to. He wants to have a ton.
Starting point is 00:38:13 She's like, I'm out on this. Me and my wife are going back and forth right now. Oh, you're getting ready to have one. He's on, he's on deck. How many, how many got? How many got it? We got to get it a friend. I know, man. You have to. She has, she's got to. All He's got two ace and blake. She's got friends with their kids. You know, they're all best friends. If you're at home, what's just like my kids now, five and eight will be six and nine and a lot. Actually, that was like the story of life in the fast lane. Truthfully, he's a little Bella. Because Merrill had to do the whole show pregnant pretty much.
Starting point is 00:38:39 Yeah, she had to be on TV pregnant. How was that for her? She was like, she crushed it. But she was like, she was kind of bummed that she was pregnant during it. You know, you know, women are when they're pregnant. Okay. Honey, I love you. My wife is bad.
Starting point is 00:38:54 Crushes it, dude. Yeah, no, I mean, you're talking about. You know what I mean. Like, no, no, I get it. She like, there's a, I mean, the hormones are going all over the place. Yeah. So there's a level of second guessing that takes place. I can't imagine.
Starting point is 00:39:05 This is the first season. She's pregnant. Yeah. She was an absolute superhero on the show. Yeah. Went traveled all over with us. All over the place. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:39:13 I mean, up until she had the baby, we were filming. Yeah. They were, they came to the hospital. Yeah, they did. No way. Yeah. Yeah. So I was, I was actually squatting, getting, pumping out some sets, dude.
Starting point is 00:39:24 In the weight room. I get a call I missed it because I had to finish my set and then I go back to the phone there's Mariel's mom I'm like oh shit I better call them so
Starting point is 00:39:34 pause the workout call Mariel I'm like hey what's going on or maybe I called her mom and she's like her water just broke we gotta go to the hospital I'm like
Starting point is 00:39:42 oh shit all right I'm coming home he said I gotta go finish my seat I got some hands I told him guys oh shit all right I'm coming I'm like
Starting point is 00:39:49 I got two more sets so pump those sets out quick got my pro team he's not lying he's not right bro. Dude, you're a psychopath. I had to get my sense.
Starting point is 00:39:58 And you know, like, you're having a day and, like, you're going to call your buddy. Like, hey, man, I got this, whatever going on. He'll answer the phone. And I know when I got no shot of talking to him, his answer, he's like, heavy breathing. I think he does it on purpose to make sure you know he is like mid-workout. He's like, oh, can I just call you after I get this? I'm like, yeah, dude, it's cool. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:40:17 So I rush home. We get in the car. I call my producer. He was actually filming a scene with Austin. Oh, this was a good set. This was a real good set. How much weight is this? It was like 600 something, I think.
Starting point is 00:40:29 This is when you were like super skinny, not eating anything. Yeah. With the mustache, too. I had the mustache rocking back in the day. I have no doubt with your jawline. A mustache would be highly in your favor. Yeah, we were, oh, come on. I love that shit.
Starting point is 00:40:43 God, dude. What's better than pumping in the weight room, brother? I don't know if there is anything. Nothing, man. Putting your hands on a couple of guys. You know what's fun? You know what is better than that? Having like four to five drinks.
Starting point is 00:40:54 and wrestling with your bros. Love that. Absolutely. That's top-notch. That's top-notch fun to me. Me and his dad, we had a big slapping match back in the day as hard as we could in the bellies just for whoever gave out first. And like, that's the most fun stuff to do.
Starting point is 00:41:08 You're the definition of toxic masculinity. Yeah, for sure. That is hilarious. Absolutely. So hard. Did you ever do slap boxing in football? I wasn't really into it. I wasn't either.
Starting point is 00:41:20 We had guys in the locker room who'd do it all the time and I'd like watching it. But yeah, I never. really got into it. Look at this. Is that Volcanoz? He's 170 pounds. He saw that couple shots to the face just now, though. Did he put it on you? But he put it on me.
Starting point is 00:41:33 And there's one you'll see in a second when he's like, you can literally start where I... Did he feel like when he was around you right there? Did it feel like your lungs were collapsing? No, I felt good right there. Look at you. Yeah, there we go. He's like, go hard.
Starting point is 00:41:43 Go hard here. So I go. I'm not going super hard because I'm thinking to myself like this dude. I don't want to kill the guy. I don't hurt him. But then I'm like, oh, I fucking got you. And he's like, no, I'm fine. I'm like, how the fuck?
Starting point is 00:41:52 I'm choking you. How does this even work? You're supposed to tap. And we have all our boys in that little stream area. And it's like they're all just kind of crowd around his, his team's there, his coaches there. And we're enjoying it. And his coach is like, all right, one more. He's like worried about him getting hurt.
Starting point is 00:42:06 And I'm like, oh yeah, we should definitely stop. Yeah, I don't want to hurt. Like you will fight coming. Oh, I'm sure. I don't want to hurt you. Man, you're not going to hurt me. Yeah. What do you mean I'm not going to hurt you?
Starting point is 00:42:13 It was insane. And then the most impressive thing by the beginning of that video is we're right out here. And we're like grabbing each other. And then he's in slides, dude. He's just chilling. He's just chilling. And I'm like, you know, played football, feel like I understand the body. But these wrestlers, man, they're just different cats.
Starting point is 00:42:32 Different leverage. Yeah. You got that chin in your chest right. You got six, seven. Yeah. You got a lot of height. You got a lot of height. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:39 These right here. Yeah. Dude, I was in Vegas. I was in the at the Cosmon. I was going up an elevator and these like these kids like five or six from came in their streaming. And they're in their like early 20s. And they're like, oh, man, you're tall.
Starting point is 00:42:51 you're tall, how old are you? And I'm like, fuck, dude. Shit. I'm, I'm six, seven. Like, no! You're fucking lose their mind. I'm like, yeah. All right, ladies, gentlemen, we're going to take a small break in this electric episode

Starting point is 00:43:36 Let's get back into this awesome racing with the boys episode. I was just thinking about Daytona and when we won in your voice afterwards. Oh, the video. I do the YouTube video. This is a pretty good one. So I didn't sleep that night. I mean, we got our efforts.
Starting point is 00:43:50 tattoos. We stayed up all night. After the race. After the race. Yeah. Austin was still, oh yeah, there we go. Look at the boy. Getting tad. We had the whole crew in there. How many tattoos do you have? I got three on my ass. Okay. He's removed. Dude, he's got. I had a whole chest. He had everything removed. I got this one.
Starting point is 00:44:09 Dude, I did that with this arm. It's crazy. You can kind of see like the tribal? Yeah. Bro, it works good. It works great. It's the, the pico laser, right? Yeah. Oh, pico. It's weird. I had like pus balls dangling. Oh, my blisters were so bad. It was during race season.
Starting point is 00:44:24 So I'm like pitting. And then I'm running to the bathroom in Miami, hot as fuck. And wiping, washing, getting these blisters clean because I didn't want them to scar. Yeah. And then I put my fireproof underwear back on, go out and do another pit stop. Come back to the bathroom with my little hand soap. Yeah. Wash it again.
Starting point is 00:44:42 Go back and pit. It was miserable. Brutal. Yeah. Awful. But three ass tattoos. And you thought that's the area. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:47 You know, some people get shoulder sleeves. Some people get, you know, back. back action, I get a, you know, an ass patch. Yeah, an ass patch is what you want. It's right. Something about, if I've ever got, I don't have an ass tattoo. It's like one of the only places. But I would love to get like a, it doesn't.
Starting point is 00:45:01 A denim pocket tattooed. Oh, I love that. Maybe a cigarette hanging out of the bag of Marlins hanging off the back. Yeah. Or just like an indent of a can, a tan sitting there. Yes. It could be fun, dude. I love that.
Starting point is 00:45:11 I love that. I love that. Dude, it was, it was the most fun. Did you get it? Oh, yeah. Yeah. He's got two. He's got two.
Starting point is 00:45:18 You want to see my ass right now? Well, I don't want to see your tattoo. Oh. You only have your... I'm confused. No, no, I'm fucking with you. Are you only ass tat guy too? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:28 Something about you guys, man, RCR. You guys just asked... Just love ass tattoos, brother. Just started it, man. Astats and snapbacks, brother. Yeah, I had a Wisconsin. My hometown Oconomowoc. That was the first one.
Starting point is 00:45:39 We went to Daytona for our off weekend in Easter. And it was like all the boys going out, went deep sea fishing. Our wolf pack this we called our crew of wolf pack. Hell yeah. That's awesome. Wolfpack, brother. We have Raider who's like, he's an anomaly. Played an offensive line at West Virginia.
Starting point is 00:45:55 His name is actually Raider? Tyler Raider is his name. Okay. An I heart radio experience. You end up how with weekend gold tickets to Lassau Montreal. Thomas Rhett. Mumford and Sons. Well, here's my pride and here's my shame.
Starting point is 00:46:12 John Party. Old Dominion, Carly Pierce, and Moore. And the prize gets even sweeter. With flights from Porter Airlines, three nights at resident. Vincent downtown Montreal and $1,000 cash Download the free Iheart radio app Listen to Pure Country for 10 minutes
Starting point is 00:46:27 And enter to win Lasso Montreal Every day you listen Is another chance to win Yeah, I love it And then he came an army ranger For a little while No shit
Starting point is 00:46:38 Yeah So he was Festival Daytona 500 Orange Bowl And became Army Ranger Now he's back gas So he pitt He was our fueler for like
Starting point is 00:46:46 Four years And then he's like I want to go be an army ranger And so he left NASCAR, great paying job. Me, Paul, and him all lived at the barn together. It's like a frat house. It was, and he's like, I want to go try to be an Army Ranger.
Starting point is 00:46:58 So he left. So this is pre-wives. Single life. You guys are living in a barn. Oh, dude, it was the best. We'll get back to that. Yeah, we'll come back to that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:04 So Raider leaves NASCAR, goes and becomes an Army Ranger for like five years. Then he's like, well, I'm done with this now. I'm going to go get back into NASCAR. No shit. So he's a fueler again. Yeah. Such a cool story. So we go for Easter.
Starting point is 00:47:16 And we got a bunch of pit crew guys, buddies. we go down there to our only off weekend one of them we choose Daytona because Daytona loves us we go down there we're red carpet yeah it's awesome it's awesome and so we go to 5500 day my dad was uh my dad was with us and we're talking about tattoos like the first idea was we're all going to draw something put it in a hat and we had to get it on our past could be like property of Paul Swan and then somebody's got to get that on their eyes I'm loving everything's awesome yeah my dad's like yeah you guys don't need to do that you need to do that you You'd pick one thing and everybody gets it.
Starting point is 00:47:51 He actually stepped in. The hurricane stepped in. He was a voice of reason. Okay. Yeah, he was like, that's a little far. So big Raiders, like, no, not a shot. We're not doing this. Yeah, he's always trying to be like.
Starting point is 00:48:02 He's a restrictor plate two kind of guy. Is that the raider right there on the left? Yeah, no, the right. The right? Oh. Yeah. Incognito. Big, big boy, yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:10 That's a big fucking unit. Yeah, he is a unit. So we're third day of the trip, whatever. Yeah, we're at this place called the Ocean. deck awesome place and raider gets into the final four boys had some sodas they had the sandcastle margaritas a couple cold pops yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah and he's like two or three of those in this we're going now yeah now you get some drinks in him he wants to do everything yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah no way we call the first tattoo
Starting point is 00:48:43 place, hardcore tattoo. Hardcore, baby. We pull up and there's like 16 of us, because we've just met friends over the trip. Yeah, there were some random NASCAR fans. We made two truck drivers at the ocean deck. The first mate on the fishing trip. We just all go into this pretty much shut down hardcore tattoo. There's an alcohol store beside it.
Starting point is 00:49:02 Let us bring alcohol over there and we're all getting tattoos. We have this dude drawl up, uh, wolf howling at the moon. It looks like the howl at the moon a little bit. It was such a shitty tattoo. Like he drew it up and I'm like, wait, is this guy? serious? And he's like, yeah, what's wrong? I'm like, oh, yeah, it's great. Let's get these tattoos. That's a hard conversation to have when it's going on your body for the rest of your life. And they were like, I'm going to put the number three in it. Well, Raiders's like, we're not doing that.
Starting point is 00:49:25 I don't need people who make fun of me to think I got Austin's number on my ass. It's Dale's number, by the way. Yeah, well, we can get into that. But right now it's your number. So, Raider says that and we're like, all right, we'll go with the Roman numeral three. Yeah, okay. So we put a Roman numeral three in the moon. and the wolf's howling at it. Let me find the picture. Yeah. It's like hats and everything.
Starting point is 00:49:47 Yeah, we got hats. Are we selling merch or what? We were selling it. Yeah. The hats are sick. We got to get it. We got a couple hats. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:53 I mean, you brought all this. I'm kind of juiced up. You're giving me a lot of gifts. I thought we should have gave something to you. I love the fact that you guys. So you have 16 guys in here. Yeah. Then we come home and people start.
Starting point is 00:50:04 Yeah, go ahead. The truck drivers went back to get their kid. Their kid was sleeping at the hotel. He's like 16. Like, like, hold on. We got to go get our kid. he's getting one too. And this is a fan.
Starting point is 00:50:13 They're all part of the Wolfpack. Oh yeah. They're all part of the Wolfpack. There's like a, there's like 26 people now. It was awesome. We came home and then when we'd have a good time, it'd be like, hey, let's go brand you into the Wolfpack so people would just start getting that.
Starting point is 00:50:24 We got like 30 members now. I fucking love that. That could be your first ass tattoo. Could be. Yeah. Get the denim pocket and the. Wait, which one is it? The Daytona one is the one we got after the 500.
Starting point is 00:50:39 The Wolfpack one is the first. Oh, I see it as well. The first one. Yeah, yeah. There's got to be an image somewhere from the Wolfpack hat. It's sharp. That is a top-notch shitty tattoo. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:50:48 It's just so blown out everywhere. Yeah, it's terrible. But it's so great. In front of Austin's camera. Yeah. Yeah, there we go. There's my butt cheek. Nice.
Starting point is 00:50:58 Nice. Yeah. So that started now. Howling out of three is hilarious. All time. So that was the first tattoo. And then, what, two years later? 2018, yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:09 2018. We win. Well, that night after. for we win, we're like, we're going back to hardcore tattoo. We've got to get more tattoos. Definitely a different tattoo artist. That day's way better. Way better.
Starting point is 00:51:18 Sharp. So then we get the 500 logo tatted. Brought our whole team in there. The cops were driving us around Daytona all night. My father and all got the wolf on his on his. Yeah, he got it big on his arm. And it looks sick. It looks bad.
Starting point is 00:51:31 Did you go to hardcore tattoo? We went to hardcore. That's our spot, bro. So if you're going to get the wolf tattoo, you have to go to a hardcore tattoo in Daytona. That is hilarious. So you come to 500 next year. Stop in a hundred.
Starting point is 00:51:41 So the 500, is that the first and last race of the year? It's the first. And then we go back. Is it a playoff race this year, Daytona? I don't know. Yeah, I think it is actually. You got to find, you're going to find Paul's interview. Yeah, type in a Paulsuan Daytona 500 interview.
Starting point is 00:51:58 We stayed up all night drinking, tattoos, partying. I didn't go to bed. My voice was hoarse. And they, first thing they do is they interview me when we get to this major breakfast the next day. And like, you could not understand what this is. No, this isn't it? You have to look it up.
Starting point is 00:52:14 I mean, his voice is just shocked. He's out there talking. The boys will find it and put it in post, man. I got to hear that though before it goes out. Also, sorry for my Rass voice. Long night, long night of celebrations. So last night, we obviously won the 500. It is.
Starting point is 00:52:29 Sounds like he's got a crab in his throat. Oh, yeah, dude, it was. But he was awesome. But he just keeps talking to it, too, doing the interview. Like, never slows down. He's on. He doesn't, he doesn't, he doesn't, you don't. You don't stop.
Starting point is 00:52:38 You don't. You don't. You can't. you. I love, how many ex-football players are pit crew guys? Pretty much It seems like all of them. Pretty much the entire pit road is all past athletes.
Starting point is 00:52:50 Former football players, basketball, wrestlers, baseball players. And it really kind of started when I was getting into it. And that was in 2014 is when I first got to RCR in the summertime. I feel like when we did our combine and we, like I was taking the down the numbers on the combine and Raider came in straight off straight from West Virginia in senior year.
Starting point is 00:53:12 And he got, we had a dead tread. So it was just a treadmill dead with a tape line across it. And all these guys came in. They were doing pretty good. And Rader gets on there and he's still a playing weight. And he does like,
Starting point is 00:53:21 we were taking it for like 30 seconds, how many reps? He did 36 in 30 seconds. And I was like, holy shit. Ball players are made different, brother. You know it.
Starting point is 00:53:30 And yeah, we instantly like signed him. I think around 2010, like 208 to 2010 is when it really started shifting to, these mechanics were getting kind of butted out of the pit crews by these athletes. Well, at that time, the most efficient way to do it was your mechanics were also your pit crew. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:48 And so, like, because it was too expensive to just hire in athletes and have pit crew and mechanics. So you needed to be able to work on the car and change tires. Yeah. Or jacket. So, like, you're trying to find these guys that were great mechanics that also could get it done on pit road. Well, then when Red Bull came into the sport, they just said, screw it, we're going to hire a whole other. team that just focuses on pitting cars fast.
Starting point is 00:54:13 And that changed the game. Then everybody started hiring in athletes and then guys are flying in on race day just to pit the car. Because everything before that, like you needed to be a well-rounded mechanic and somebody that can change the time. Yeah, you'd be a Swiss Army knife. Right.
Starting point is 00:54:29 And everything. Now you're very specialized in a multiple different areas. Exactly. Let's play the dumb athlete who thinks he can do anything. How hard would it be for me to become a pit crew guy? How long of training what I think you could easily do like as a few you could I like the fuck yeah come in there come in and be a fueler you can maybe be a jackman now fueling would be the easiest to come in and be perfect with his height and your height and everything pumping pumpin pump it's free because I seen the dudes pumping in there and when the dudes
Starting point is 00:54:57 coming around they fucking they get the guys go out around yeah they're tall like that hell yeah how heavy how heavy those gas tanks 100 pounds I think something like that sloshing around I do like to over overstep. Your plug-in time is like super important though. Yeah. Plug-in time. Like you want to have a negative plug-in time, meaning you want to hit the hole before we stop. You're going to plug-in before we stop. Like as the car is coming to a stop, you need to be already locked in. Great plug-in time. Yeah, I can't do that. Yeah. So you want to be fueling it as I like stop. You're like coming to a close. You want to be hitting that plug-in as he is coming to a stop. If you're waiting for him to stop and you're plugging in, it's probably not
Starting point is 00:55:36 going to be as good, especially with how fast these stops are now. I mean, they're going from when we switch from five lug to one lug, stops went from anywhere from 11 fives to 12 twos to now they're like anywhere from eight O's to nine twos. Yeah. I saw, I mean, when we were in NASCAR, when we were in Nashville, watching these dudes operate, we weren't at y'alls. We were at somebody else says, I can't remember which one we were at. But these dudes like brought me over and we're like, hey, they're watching film. Yeah. And they're like showing all the things. Okay, yeah, we have it right here's, here's my head cam. This is you, your head cam?
Starting point is 00:56:11 Bomb, stick. Get a little adjustment, we hate doing those. What is that last little move you did? Go back, quick. So that's an adjustment. I'm adjusting on the chassis of the car. When he said stick, he's talking about the hang. Yeah, he stuck the hang, buddy.
Starting point is 00:56:24 Oh, yeah, yeah, you don't want to. Yeah, that's the lingo. Yeah, okay. If you're rolling around in there. Droving, dropping some new. Waffle belly sticking it, all right. Yep. Then we do an adjustment, which.
Starting point is 00:56:34 He don't like that. We hate doing adjustments. Why do you hate to do you just slows the stop? There's a good chance it slows the stop down because I'm not able just right after I hang that tire. I can leave and go to the next side and not be behind with an adjustment. They're all leaving. I'm over there still doing an adjustment and it's going to make me late to that left
Starting point is 00:56:54 front to hang that tire, which is a good shot that it slows the stop down. This was still a fast stop. I think it was like an 8-4, which is really good. But when other cars don't have to do adjustment, they're going to have a better chance to have the better average than us when we're doing adjustments. That's another big part of it. Him giving himself some flowers right there. He gave himself some flowers right there.
Starting point is 00:57:16 We let him know when he doesn't. Our crew chief and us will let him know. But Austin does a really good job of hitting his mark or at least being consistent of what we know how he's going to stop. You can give them the same view every time it helps. Yeah. How hard is it to peel in when there's both cars? Like there's three lanes. Well, truthfully, the worst part now with these cars, they don't turn out of the boxes.
Starting point is 00:57:35 good. So if you don't qualify good and get a good pit stall, it is a pain to get out of the box. What's more important to you when it comes to qualifying is the position you start in or the pit stall? I mean, they're both important. I mean, net net win. Okay, got you. You can't. If you, the further forward, the better. When it's hard to pass on the track, the only place you can really pass is pit road. So if you're lighting it up on pit road gaining four to five spots at time, that's huge. Now, between the two of you, who's more critical of the other? Like, are you more critical of the pit crew? or is the pit crew like, hey, you got to get in the spot better. Like, where's the accountability?
Starting point is 00:58:07 So I would say, where the ego's lane. I think we're probably more critical of him of how he gets in the box because it means so much. And like, when he, when he doesn't come in good, I am motherfucking him.
Starting point is 00:58:19 Like not. It's one of the natives are being close with your boy, dude. I can't because I don't have a microphone to talk to him. If I did, oh, I'd be on it. But like, I feel like back in the day, I used to voice my opinion a lot about like bad stops or like,
Starting point is 00:58:33 now I'm just, I've gotten more experience where it's like, if I say something, it's more like, hey, let's get it together. He'll say, he'll say some smart ass shit. I'll throw some sarcasm in there. Yeah. Oh, he likes, he loves it. He loves it. He loves it.
Starting point is 00:58:47 He'll be like, uh, dude. What happened there? That's my other. Yeah. What happened? Or if, or if we like, we're trying to get him to not want an adjustment and we don't do an adjustment, it's just a straight up stop and it's not good. He'll be like, he'll wait like 10 seconds after he pulls out and be like,
Starting point is 00:59:02 well I guess we should have done that adjustment I haven't done that I haven't done that in a long time that's got a that's got a piss you off sometimes I'm sitting there like I'm gonna get this guy but yeah like if he goes long or stop short when he's not supposed to and jacks up like how we get to the car because that I mean that is so critical for us to have a good stop is where he hits his mark
Starting point is 00:59:24 and if he doesn't and it messes us up and I'm like oh I get over that wall and I'm screaming yeah but it's but like for me me and him like we're such good friends that like we respect each other enough that we can tell each other like when something goes wrong. I feel like I'm now I've done it low enough like 12, 13 years or whatever, but you can almost like while it's going on and know if our stops going to be good or not like. Like while it's happening, he knows exactly what's happening. If they're behind or not behind, I can hear what's going on. If they've missed, you know a hang or something like that.
Starting point is 00:59:56 I can, it's just you kind of know. And I don't think that one wasn't clean. Every driver doesn't have that sense. He's really good at sensing what's going on where other drivers they most drivers I feel like don't care enough about a relationship with their team, their pit crews, their guys, whereas he makes that so crucial to having a good team as he gets to know all of us. I don't have any friends, so they got to be my picker.
Starting point is 01:00:19 Yeah, exactly. I'm with you on that. But the picker guys are way cooler. So we're the coolest guys to be friends with. Fun group of boys right there. 100%. I'll tell you what, the pit crew guys too mess with busting with the boys. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:29 We were walking down pit laying a bunch of the boys. Everybody knows you guys. Those were kind of coming around. Hey, the boys are in here. Community out here. Come on. Have you not tried to do any pit stuff? Dude, I'm, I'm fucking down.
Starting point is 01:00:40 Yeah, we need to get you out of our. I'm like, how do I leverage this show into letting me be a pit crew guy for it? Willey C can be the tired carry like me. You get you on the jack. What's like the hardest thing to do? Like who's like, I think the quarterback. I think the, uh, the jack man is the one who sets the pace of the pit. Set the tone.
Starting point is 01:00:58 He sets the tone of what's going to be. I think, I would say. say most of the speed comes from the Jackman. They have a lot of do. Yes. If they're fast, you're going to be fast. Like, your stops are going to be fast. Changing out tires is kind of like, that's an easy man job.
Starting point is 01:01:11 No, it's not easy. It changed. So the highest paid guy on the teams for a long time were to changers, right? When we had five lugs. Right. Went to a single lug and it got easier. It definitely got easier, but the people had to get more athletic. See that pause after you said easier to kind of looking over.
Starting point is 01:01:29 I know, I know. I know. But you have to get. That's why the athlete part of it had to get even faster. They're round times or had to pick up because you could be kind of slow around the car. But if your hand speed was way up with five lugs, you were going to get paid. You didn't have to be as athletic. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:44 Like now with this one lug, my rear changer. There's the gun now. So the old gun was way different. I don't know who this guy. Do we know who's doing this? This is the 24 team. It's a random. That's all the go.
Starting point is 01:01:55 That's all the go. See the other guys like, get ready to go a couple times. And they're like practicing their little thing. It's like, all right. rear changer on our car, Tingler, he's been doing it with me for a long time. And he was one of the best five lug changers. And now he's still one of the best one lug changers. Like our right rear is a huge deal to have fast stops. So if you have a fast right rear rear, you're going to have fast stops. Because on the right side, the rear is behind the front. So you need to be extra fast in that right rear. And me and him have some of the best right rear times on Pitt Road. The Jackman got the new behind the back move to. Yeah. Now they all go behind the back with the jack. And that Looks sick. Boys are getting custom. Bro, the picks for the Jack Man are the hype is picks on pit road.
Starting point is 01:02:37 They get some nasty shots. And you guys just kind of like, I love the RCR and we'll go to our pit facility. You guys are, because when I'm watching, it seems like it's like, oh, everyone's like super into it the whole time. And I thought it was just like, hey, you guys go out there. You do your thing. And then you're kind of like chilling sitting in a lawn chair. Cracking a couple cold ones.
Starting point is 01:02:53 Right, right. A couple cold solvents. Dude, I was watching some guys like they'd come out. Oh, this is sick. Got the BG logo on the home there. Come on. Ah, this was a bad one. This was a bad, boys, this is a bad stop.
Starting point is 01:03:04 But you guys, we don't show those. This is practice. This is practice, right. Wait, was that the one that they posted? Yeah, you knew right there. Yeah, I'm sure. Yeah, we knew it was bad, man. What that helmet?
Starting point is 01:03:15 That's an interesting, look. A little, little BG on there, you know? A little something. I got to show those tires way. The tires weigh 55 pounds. They used to weigh 75. And you're fucking holding them. Yeah, brother.
Starting point is 01:03:26 Come on. I got to stay in the gym. Come on. I see it. You see guns. You walk in here with no sleeves. He's like, you got, you gotta be ready for that. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:33 You get a little more sun on them, but we're, what's going on? It's like, I got no time to get out in the sun. Oh, stop, serious. I got to, stop complaining. I got to be a dad. I got to go travel on the weekends. He's in the gym too much. I'm in the gym too much, man.
Starting point is 01:03:46 We'll fucking go outside. I know I need to. What's going on? This is the most untian outside. I don't know any way to pivot this into this, but Mitch showed me a couple of calendar photos that you sent just in case you want to love. Brother. Oh, brother.
Starting point is 01:03:57 Yeah. Look at the boy. What the fuck. That's. That's. Hey, that's Mr. August right there. The audacity to show, to send this to our producer. That's Mr. August right there.
Starting point is 01:04:07 That is crazy. Casey, we got to get the, we got to get the calendar out there. Look at that, boy. What are we doing? Casey, we got to get the calendar pumping. Come on. Come on, big dog. I said he got that same bulge as me in that combine.
Starting point is 01:04:22 That flash not helping you at all, dude. You have eyeliner on right there? No, he got them eyes. Oh, those are my eyes, dog. Yeah. They're a little close together. Those are my eyes, bro. You think, yeah.
Starting point is 01:04:33 You're thinking like Italian, but then it's like, oh, maybe you got a dash of something else also in there. You got something. Maybe a little Middle Eastern. I don't know. Yeah, you. Persian, I don't know. You fuck up 23 and me. Yeah, come on.
Starting point is 01:04:44 They don't know what they're saying, dude. They don't know what they're going to get. That's a mutt, dude. Yeah. Sean McVeigh, what's up? Come happy, brother. I tell you, yeah. No one loved that post more than you, huh?
Starting point is 01:04:53 Do you see that most recent photo of Sean McVey? He did. Oh, fuck. He's a stud, bro. I felt bad for you the minute I saw it. You've seen all these things? Yeah. He's a hottest guy who's hotter?
Starting point is 01:05:03 Like, a bunch of dudes on a poggis being like, what guy's hotter? Pull up Sean McVeigh when he's on the boat with his wife. Yeah, man. He is tough competition. I don't know if I... And this is how you know it's bad.
Starting point is 01:05:13 Sean's got a beautiful wife. Right. A beautiful wife. You're not even looking at her. Because... Hey, he's Jack. Dude. That's a Mac guy too right there.
Starting point is 01:05:22 That's a little something right there. Yeah, he's probably, yeah. See, he can take stuff probably. Probably. I can't. Oh. I've heard a lot of excuses out of you in the last three minutes, dude. I mean, I can't get out in the sun.
Starting point is 01:05:33 I can't take nothing. No one can compete with that. You got a good head of hair on him too. He's got hair. You see my lettuce? Come on. I'm with you. Listen,
Starting point is 01:05:44 no one's taking, I think you were. You were honestly my biggest, you and Willie are my biggest supporters. What do we ate? Back of the bus. What do we think? All right, Paul.
Starting point is 01:05:52 Come on boys. Here's where I back up a little bit on you. Because I am, I'm in the camp of Paul. for one handsomest guy in NASCAR, possibly in sports. But when you send my boys this photo, I just, I think to myself, I got to break them down a little bit. I got to kind of be mean to them. Since they didn't make the calendar, I got to get these out there one way or another.
Starting point is 01:06:09 Why don't we make the calendar? Because you got that 2020 photo. We can put a nice little. Oh, yeah. We got to get him on it. We got our whole, look at him. Look at him. Look at the boy.
Starting point is 01:06:18 That's an RCR call. Look at the boy. We'll tell you what we can do. Busting can do that. Bussing create a calendar. Yeah, there we go. Yeah, stop calendar. Because I did picker guys, man.
Starting point is 01:06:28 I saw a couple of dudes with them shoulders. Hey, I thought there's some, on the way down here we were talking about, you know, the whole athletic driver thing. What do you think about this? A golf tournament between sports. So like NASCAR drivers take on a group of baseball players, basketball players, NFL players, NFL players in a rider cup style format. Yeah. First off, I think it's a phenomenal idea. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:53 There's a guy named Ryan Suckup. your wives will know him. He was a kicker for the Titans. Yeah, I know that name. He is, he's a part of a group that does that right now. Really? Where it's like they do football versus basketball versus hockey versus, you know, whoever. And adding NASCAR to that would set the tone.
Starting point is 01:07:11 Yeah. Because you got some type of way about being like NASCAR drivers aren't real athletes. I'm not worried about it because there's a lot that aren't. There's a lot that aren't. In my mind. Now, there's some that are unbelievable at driving race cars. doubt. Now this guy's actually an athlete. Yeah. Like he's a sick athlete. I saw, I saw the 12-year-old photos.
Starting point is 01:07:31 Yeah, right. I mean, he's turning two, brother. You've sold me. You got to have, no, like he picks up a ball. He does anything. He's really good at it. There's certain drivers that you're talking about, Austin? Or that I'll tell you one. Brad Keselowski pull up his video of him playing basketball. No good. That's a, it's a really rough look for the sport. This is a horrible. Horrible look for drivers. We got to look at the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to this. Oh, this is really bad. Don't do this. No, this is... It's bad.
Starting point is 01:07:56 This is probably right here. I'm surprised whoever the PR person just, they should not have let this happen. See, PR, dude, PR is, we got a... Like, William didn't do the bench press. I don't know why he didn't do the bench press. He didn't want it, but like this, this is... Oh, yeah. This is the start.
Starting point is 01:08:11 The lights are just too bright. Yeah, we miss that. Got that... There we go. Got the Yamika in the back too. Tough. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, we can't say that? He's not Jewish.
Starting point is 01:08:22 I'm talking about the bald spot. dude he's not it's not nothing to be Jewish and then it's a little hat look here we go oh this gets worse oh oh he's not
Starting point is 01:08:36 here's the issue here is like yeah this is not athletic but he's also like the best athletes compensate they do one thing and they adjust there was zero adjustment there he shot it so short he goes let me take a little more off this
Starting point is 01:08:48 that's where his brain went all right Paul come on yeah yeah Yeah, I'm like this sweat off. But if I were to say to you, NASCAR drivers are not athletes, that's a total discreement. I mean, I look at athletes, like, totally different. I feel like what we do, going 200 miles an hour, the reaction times that we have to have,
Starting point is 01:09:12 the mental fortitude to do what we do, it takes a whole other level. Like, I look at bull riders, right? Because I've got to work with bull riders right now. I'm a GM, the Carolina Cowboys, and, like, those guys are crazy. Yeah. Like, I think what I do is tame compared to what they do on the back of a bowl. Those guys are, but when you look at like an athlete, there's certain guys that make that sport look slow down and like are athletic about them. But then I asked him, Paul saw two of our guys trying to skip the other day in the gym.
Starting point is 01:09:39 They can't skip. Our strength is like, all right, guys, show me a skip. And they're like, skip. Yeah, like an A-skip. No, no, just like a literal skit. But that's a product of guys being, like driving as their assistant. They're just doing a sport. into the group sports.
Starting point is 01:09:53 Right. Because all that stuff is just taught. It's just taught. And I don't know, man. I will say, if Brad, I don't know if Brad could ever, maybe if you taught him like it, too. Like, I don't know if he's going to skit very good. That was pretty. That was pretty bad.
Starting point is 01:10:05 But dude, J.B. Mooney, this guy, this is one of the goats right here. Unbelievable. These guys are crazy. Well, that's exactly my point right here. Like, J.B. Bullrow, his deal was like standing on a basketball was like his workout, like for balance. Like, unbelievable balance.
Starting point is 01:10:21 And that just nuts. Right. Like he didn't do anything else, but that was his thing. He'd stand on a basketball in his cowboy boots. Can you imagine in cowboy boots standing in a basketball and just talking? He's probably smoking while he's doing it. Yeah. But his ability to move on top of a bull is what made him so amazing on top of his, like, his grit and all that.
Starting point is 01:10:37 Mitch, did you spell balancing with an E? He's typing, not me. And up. Rough look. Rough look. That was a tough look for Mitch as well with the bus driving that took place. Hey, see if you can find Clay Guyton, Vegas championship last year. He went five for five.
Starting point is 01:10:51 So you said Carolina what? Cowboys. Carolina defending champions. Yes. I did bring some. Yep. bought some hardware. I see it.
Starting point is 01:10:59 I saw it during the bench. So sick. Now you're the GM of this team. Yeah. So you won that bell for you? No. What do you mean? The team won it.
Starting point is 01:11:07 You're the GM. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. So you win a Super Bowl. Everybody gets a race. That's your ring. That's like mine of my proudest things, dude.
Starting point is 01:11:13 That thing is one to five hundred, one of different stuff. But like to win something in a different sport and be a part of the build process of it. So this is like four years in the making. trying to win the championship. And so like we learn, we do our training camp every year. I got some Navy SEAL buddies that we bring into the training camp, and we just kind of built a program. Our coached Jerome Davis from Archdale, North Carolina,
Starting point is 01:11:36 him and his wife kind of coached the team. And we built our team off a two, like in our draft, the first draft, proud of this too. We made this, it was a snake draft. So a big fantasy football guy here. All right. And I understood. like snake draft and how to move around the board.
Starting point is 01:11:54 So when we got in, our pick was, I believe, seven. There was eight teams at the start. So we had the wrap. So seven and ten. And we needed to try and get up to the front. We wanted one of the, the world champion that year was drafted at three. So my coach trained him.
Starting point is 01:12:13 That's who we wanted to get to. So we had to figure out a way to get Daly and Swear Engine at the time. And ended up, taking, because I figured out pretty much where everybody was going to go with their picks, but the team at three wanted a guy that was going to fall. And I pretty much predicted to them, hey, he's going to fall to me. And I got the rap at 10. I'll pick who you want at 10, but I got to have who you're taking at 3.
Starting point is 01:12:36 And if you don't take the guy at 3, that's the world champion, you're going to look kind of silly, taking a 40-year-old at that time. Yeah. Because in bull riding, like, that's ancient. Like, 23 to 29 is prime. Okay. It starts going downhill for bullriding. I mean, they rough, rough how much they take on their bodies.
Starting point is 01:12:55 Oh, yeah. So anyways, Dailen's 22 world champion gets drafted at three. The guy that they wanted, which was a solid guy, they ended up winning a championship. He came to seven. We picked him with our first pick, came back around. And the guy that had won like the event that year, we picked him at 10 and swapped them for Dailan. So we ended up getting Dailant, the current world champion that year. Two for one.
Starting point is 01:13:18 Two for one. I got their 15 or whatever. it was. And legit fucking GM. We made this guy in the NFL. Legit trade. Hey, might have to.
Starting point is 01:13:27 Gotta get him out there. So you saw it. You saw the vision. You went a championship that year. Not that year. It took. Came close. They were best team in the regular season.
Starting point is 01:13:34 We led the full season standings to the last game of the year that year. And then we fell apart in Vegas. Fuck. But then we go back. The next year is kind of an off year. Rebuilt, kind of retooled on everything. And then we set the record for 11 straight wins. Um, we had the high scoring game ever.
Starting point is 01:13:54 We had a perfect game, which is five bull rides, high scoring game. I made a t-shirt off of that one. That was good. Huh? That was at the home event too. No, that wasn't the first event of the years in Oklahoma. It was, it was awesome. Bro, five for five.
Starting point is 01:14:05 They're electric being at these things. Yeah, you got to come. I've been to a bunch of them growing up in Arizona. So I grew up in a town called Cave Creek, Arizona. Yeah. 5,200 people. Only place in the world, you're going to find an old truck, a Ferrari and a horse in the same park. Hell yeah.
Starting point is 01:14:19 And there's a place called a Buffalo Chip on, Wednesdays and Friday nights, the three of us could go sign a waiver, pay 50 bucks and get on a real bowl. And they have like these stands now that hold like, I don't know, probably maybe a thousand people. Yeah. And they pack it out, dude. It is, it is one of the most fun place. Like I had to scout. So like the only way to scout people is their Instagrams.
Starting point is 01:14:38 We have a list of these everybody that's signed to the draft. And I just went through every one of these guys. This is, so this is. This looks like a time. Buddy, it is so much fun. I have seen people on this. I have seen people on this. during Thanksgiving.
Starting point is 01:14:52 Some of they were trying to fry turkey and a book, I do think it was an insurance thing. Who knows? Like, that's a legend. You're not judging. That's a legend. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:14:59 But this place did they rebuilt it. Damn. And it's so badass. They have live music. It's such a fun, fun, like, place. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:06 You got to come to a team's event, though. It changes the game because then you got like, each insane. Yeah. And you come to like our home event, like it's electric because everybody's pulling for us in the last game of the day. Everybody plays one game. And then the final game,
Starting point is 01:15:20 is your home home game. I don't think I've ever seen this guy more juiced or excited than when he's at his team events. There's a good video of me on here going crazy after we won it. Like the gamblers were kind of like our rivalry. They're owned by Egon Durbin. They're the bad guys. Yeah, the bad guys.
Starting point is 01:15:36 The evil empire. Yeah, the heels. We also, one of our guys went to the gamblers that was with us. So then it created. Treasonous. Yeah. Kicked his dick in the dirt. Yeah, fuck that guy.
Starting point is 01:15:47 Yeah, exactly. The reason why I bring up the chip, though, is if you, If you're going to be a GM, you got to know how this thing operates. You need to get on a bowl. Well, he said, no, bro. No, I'm not. No shot. Have you ever been behind there and, like, seen, like, the PBR side?
Starting point is 01:15:59 I've been. I got, right there. That's me getting fired up with that, my buddy. That's a former Navy SEAL. It helps with a training camp. Look at him, buddy. It went backwards on them, too. Come on.
Starting point is 01:16:11 Come on. Come on. That home event, there's nothing more. That's a three out of 10 just seeing Swan on a Monday. That's a lot of juice. For him to get that juice, you got, you know he is. I got to do something. Feeling, yes, 100%.
Starting point is 01:16:22 It's cool to do it. Like, that was a walk-off win in front of our home town. Like, everybody's on their feet, last ride of the night, and we got to have it to win. And he throws up the deuce is mid-ride. Oh, no, he's still out of there. Little swaggy dude taking place right there. Clay's a swaggy dude. Like, he's got some juice to him.
Starting point is 01:16:39 Can we, is that ride? Can we see it? Yeah, it's on there. Look at. Maybe type in Clay. There's something about Bullriding. Something about rodeoing on. Clay Guyton.
Starting point is 01:16:47 A walk off Carolina. maybe walk off wind there you go I think he's throwing the deuce up right there yeah this is legit I love the fact that they're wearing helmets for safety but I do I do miss we're trying to make safer sport we're working on that actually the Rydell right now
Starting point is 01:17:08 I miss the cat boy hat look at him he's pointing right there look at the dismount too yeah dismount perfect walk away he got knocked out the first night this is no way Sunday Friday he gets knocked out
Starting point is 01:17:24 out on a bull he rides all day because he was kind of like a little too confident on it, just came into it, gets knocked out, and it's his home event. He's from North Carolina. That's so bad. So we got one of the Carolina. That's our coach Jerome. He's a former world champion going in the Hall of Fame this year also, which is awesome. But Clay, he gets knocked out the Friday. He got to avenge himself Sunday. It was freaking awesome. It's knocked out Friday. Yeah, comes back. Insane. Comes back Sunday. Pass the baseline. Yeah. Got to. Follow my finger. Safety first, yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:55 Okay, we're good. You're riding. Let's go. I'll tell you. Then he goes to when Vegas, he went for the championship run. He didn't get bucked off. He was the MVP road every boy got on. I mean, he was electric.
Starting point is 01:18:07 I mean, to stay on for eight seconds and to pull the rope off like that, like you got to be in some flow state to take care of that, dude. These guys are the craziest dudes ever. Craziest dudes. Another job that I think you and I could do would be a lot of fun, rodeo clowning. Oh, yeah. We should test our head. Jump in the barrels a little bit.
Starting point is 01:18:23 close but not too close. Get a shoulder on the bowl every once in a while. Try to steer him in the right direction. There's an iconic video that came in a bull ride in the sun is on a bull. He falls, gets knocked out. And while the bull's like right next to him about to trample him, dad jumps on. I saw that. Hold, you seen that video?
Starting point is 01:18:41 Brings tears of your eyes. Hell yeah. That's a hell of a dad. That's a hell of a dad, dude. I love it. Same dad that lets him get on a bull though. Yeah, no doubt. But there's that yin and yang.
Starting point is 01:18:51 You gotta have it. Is this the video? Do it? No, this ain't the video. Is it? No, no, no, he got pretty cool. It was... It's right there.
Starting point is 01:18:57 It's far right, I think. Father jumps. Here, there it was. Yeah. Have you seen this, Sheffy? No, I haven't. It's crazy. Hold on tight, dude,
Starting point is 01:19:05 those water ducks in your eyes. Wi-Fi's down, good. Wi-Fi's down good. Great. Grand. It's fucking awesome. Yes. Nice!
Starting point is 01:19:17 Um... That's sick you got into this... Yeah, here we're on slow-mo boy. So he's out right. That boy is. fencing. Clowns come out. Those guys,
Starting point is 01:19:28 the bullfighters are unbelievable. Yeah, they're awesome, dude. They're badass. Yeah, I think we could throw our hat in the ring on that, Taylor. I would be down to give it a try. But once again, like, it's my ignorance. There he is,
Starting point is 01:19:40 there is. Yeah, this is a really weird video. Yeah, it's kind of slow mode. But like, but him to jump on that. What did that? Take one. The dad's just eating it.
Starting point is 01:19:50 How cool is that? Dude. I mean, that's, that's the definition of dad right there. That's the kind of protection you want to be for your kid. That's awesome, man.
Starting point is 01:20:01 But yeah, I think it kind of goes into my anger and similar to like the pit crew. But like, I think we could do that. Yeah. Pair Calaboose, a little bit of face paint. Right. Put a little paint on. Put one of those jerseys on.
Starting point is 01:20:11 We're ready to go. Yeah, way for, you know, going to the 80s changing room, put his belt buckle on. Which had the lock, the locker room is also super fun. The locker rooms elected. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:20:20 We had Pee Pablo in there one year. Yeah. Peti Pablo is in there. Yeah, North Carolina. Let's go. It was awesome. What other things are you passionate about outside of NASCAR? Love your bull riding.
Starting point is 01:20:31 Love your driving. What do you like to do? What's an off day look like for you, huh? Family Jesus and hunting, man. Oh, fuck. All right. I didn't know we were doing country music songs out here. Hell yeah, dude.
Starting point is 01:20:41 No doubt. That's awesome. What do you like to hunt? What's your go-to? So I love to bow hunt. I love white-tailed deer, like, obsessed with it. So, yeah, that was. was Ohio.
Starting point is 01:20:53 Dude, being in the game you're in, I feel like you're a perfect match for a meat eater. Have you done that yet? I haven't done meat eater yet. Dude, I'm a Ronella and those boys are awesome. I've hunted three times. One was in Louisiana.
Starting point is 01:21:06 I saw you. You've been getting into a bohunt, right? No, not me. That is not me at all. I'm like, I dabble in a world. You went elk hunting, though, right? We went coyote hunting and duck hunting with Steve. Duck hunting is awesome.
Starting point is 01:21:17 Duck hunting was awesome. It's like social. You sit there. You sit there. You can bullshit. Steve's got that uncle vibe or you're like, I want you to really approve of. of me, but I have nothing to really impress you with
Starting point is 01:21:25 because I'm in your element. Yeah. But it was awesome to be around. You went when you caught like, went and caught traps, a beaver in it and stuff like that. And it's just awesome being up in the- The action is also great with Doug hunting. And their team's incredible too. Like, um, their social media team, the, all the people around the meat eater community. But this dude, he is
Starting point is 01:21:41 incredible. I see you and Willie out there. I think somebody went with him in the Kassar world. I think Chase Elliott did something with him. Yeah. Yeah. I love that. You look legit out there when you got in the, uh, got the other Have you ever shot a bow? Yeah. No, I did when I was like really young, but it was like very sure it was in Sacramento with my grandmother. I mean, being six, seven and climbing into a deer stand is probably going to be tough for you.
Starting point is 01:22:00 You know, like getting up, you let you want to do that? I do, I'm down to trying anything twice. That's kind of like my personality. I bought a piece of property. I'm not going to say where it's at because it's like a honey hole for me. Yeah, yeah. And, uh, but like I love going up there, riding a tractor. I like building food plots.
Starting point is 01:22:18 Like it's my favorite love right now outside of stuff. What is building a food plot? Well, I mean, setting up a food plot. Like, so, like, if I got a field, I'm going to go plant it or kill it first and plant it and hunt over it. So, like, it's the work going into the hunting part that makes it. So I got deer cameras up. I know, all right, this is the one I'm after this year. Like, I'm going to hunt him as hard as I can when wintertime comes because our offseason is literally November to about middle of January.
Starting point is 01:22:44 First race is the start of February. It's awful, dude. So we're already prepared in January. Love your job. I love my job, but I wish we had a longer off. Our schedule is tough. It's grueling. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:53 You must be sweating. That flies catching you over there, bro. I know. That flies out of it. That's just the elements when it comes to bustling with the boys. Yeah, it's all good. What, um, in your career, I'm sure you've had some tiffs with some individuals. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 01:23:04 What's your biggest rivalry in the NASCAR world, former and present? Um, well, I mean, the Lugano stuff after the Richmond deal was, was a lot. Pull it up for me, Shuffy. Yeah. You've seen the Richmond first, my win at Richmond? The first time? Probably. It was sick.
Starting point is 01:23:23 Yeah, and this is Lugano. Yeah. And Ligon. Just look. An I-Heart Radio experience. You end up how with weekend gold tickets to Lassau Montreal. Thomas Rett. Mumford and Sons.
Starting point is 01:23:37 Here's my pride and here's my shirt. John Party. Old Dominion. Carly Pierce and more. And the prize gets even sweeter. With flights from Porter Airlines. Three nights at Residence in downtown Montreal. And $1,000 cash.
Starting point is 01:23:50 Download the free IHeart Radio app Listen to Pure Country for 10 minutes And enter to win Lassau Montreal Every day you listen is another chance to win Up Rich Austin Dillon Win at Richmond Actually I wish I could find the one that Johnny Morris made
Starting point is 01:24:06 With the music behind it Move Yeah it was badass So I got pretty aggressive Yeah Yeah And your win You're excited like excited aggressive
Starting point is 01:24:14 Or like fuck this guy Well how he got the win Right there watch this one Shocked Richmond That one right there The first one How Austin didn't hit this one I think it's 20
Starting point is 01:24:22 it would be 24 this what is this is this is 20 that's 25 I won 24 and 25 they took it away from me in 24 NASCAR did they took away the playoffs they didn't take away the wins
Starting point is 01:24:34 the wins legit but they took away the playoffs why they take away the playoffs this get out of my way dude you gave a little bump you got his bubble you got his bubble
Starting point is 01:24:41 get out of my way oh he did it twice get out of my way I could see where people can get upset about that yeah well then he crossed look at boys yeah boys are jacked
Starting point is 01:24:50 right now down there. So you're fired up, you're not thinking there's a storm brawl right now. NASCAR created the playoff system that if you're a win,
Starting point is 01:24:58 you're in. Yeah. This was one of our best shot. I leave my wife. She's back there, fist pumping. Yeah, come on. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:25:04 And so, like, we had led this whole race and it came down to a restart because Stenhouse spun out with like two to go. Got you. We're coming to the white flag. I got like a five second.
Starting point is 01:25:16 Yeah, we were going to win it 100%. We come down pit road. The boys put on a great pit stop. We lit it up that. Keep me out. We broke a record that night. Oh, no shit. It was a nasty night for us.
Starting point is 01:25:24 It was a pit of all pits. Yes. So we go out there. The restart, Joey kind of like jumps the restart. I've got to get to the line first. And which one was Joey? The 22.
Starting point is 01:25:37 The 22. So when we get there, like the, it's only two laps left, right? It's a green white checker. So I got to figure out how to get to them. Well, going into three, the lap before, I caught him pretty good. Well, I just sent it. right here on this last lap, you'll see how much I gain. So, like, we're behind right here.
Starting point is 01:25:58 There's only one lap to go. His boys are feeling it. He's, yeah. You were leading by five seconds before. Yes. So now I, this is him. Yeah, so we want that back, man. So right here, I send it.
Starting point is 01:26:09 I don't downshift. I just, like, let it go in fourth gear and try to get to his back bumper to tap him. He actually, in the data, backs up the corner, but we're not going to get into all that. I've already gone over all this. What do you mean by that? We had to go through all the data to prove our point to NASCAR that, yes, I tried to bump the 22. Like I was going to move him up the track. A bump and runs fine, right?
Starting point is 01:26:31 And I, like you said, I don't think they would have taken the playoffs away off the first one. But the second one, if you back it up and if you came from my in car, Denny comes across my nose and I don't lift, right, when he comes across my nose. So he comes across your nose. Yeah. And it sits him into the outside wall. Lifting would be checking out of the throttle. Yeah, yeah. Like, we're coming to the checker flag.
Starting point is 01:26:51 I've already pumped the 22. I'm going to the finish line here. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So anyways, we had to put together a whole thing to go in front of NASCAR court. Really? Oh, yeah. It's a wheel process. The white wigs of NASCAR.
Starting point is 01:27:03 Bro, it's a full, I wish it would have been televised. Yeah. Because, I mean, I wrote a letter to NASCAR. I went through the whole thing. We went through the data. I don't know. You can watch Denny's podcast to tell what he thinks about the appeal process because you're not going to ever win it. It's.
Starting point is 01:27:18 No. Yeah, it's a war. It's kind of one of those things like you just do it to prove your point. Sometimes it gets one. You're guilty until proven innocent, then you're still guilty. Yeah. Gotcha. So it's tough to win.
Starting point is 01:27:27 Fair enough. And that's coming from Denny, who I feel like actually did a, I even watched his podcast going into the appeal process to see what I can learn. Yeah. Going into it. And he was right. Because of this. So you're, this is a winning getting into the playoffs. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:27:39 You got to keep the way. So we were supposed to be. Right. And that's a big chunk of change for the organization if you make the playoffs. Yeah. I mean, it wouldn't have bad. I still got the win. So it's good.
Starting point is 01:27:48 More fields. the grays. Yeah. So, rough deal. Anyways, Lugano's interview after the race.
Starting point is 01:27:56 11. You talk about the 22 card, that 111 seemed real intentional. That's the one you didn't let off a gas.
Starting point is 01:28:03 That's when you didn't lift up. That one, truthfully, to this day, like when he comes across, he didn't see him coming. He comes,
Starting point is 01:28:09 he slides, he slides right in front of me on this one. This interview of Legano. Oh, dude, he was on the headsets? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:28:17 I don't think so. He's pissed. He's pissed. He's pissed. He's pissed. He very much calls me trash. You know what I mean? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:23 And he's going off right here. Right. He's giving it all. But the thing that pissed me off on this. Yeah, we're what we want. Like we're in the victory lane. We're going, well, what pissed me off was what I found out later is when he came down Pitt Road, he came at and revved his engine in front of my wife, my kid.
Starting point is 01:28:39 My wife. My wife. Why is that a bad thing? It sounds like Maverick. It looked like he was going to like try to hit him. He like swirps. Like he like swirms at him and like. It was a big deal, right?
Starting point is 01:28:50 Because I thought it was like a maverick going past it. If you're pissed at me, go wreck me next week. Don't take anything on my kids and my family. Right? I'm with you now. Now I'm back going to wreck you again. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because I don't care what you think.
Starting point is 01:29:04 So your wife and kids are near or on the pit crew? Yeah, there it is. Right here it is. He gets a $50,000 fine for this. So watch to the left of the screen. Yeah. Our family's all in that little pod right there. Oh, yeah, that's a nasty.
Starting point is 01:29:20 He stops. So now he's revving the engine And I swear still He turned a little more left also Nasty boy move Nasty work right there Look to the NASCAR officials Piss now, see him
Starting point is 01:29:30 That official's coming Yeah he's fucking He's taking all of his authority Right So that happens When do you know that happens? Not till like the next day Because I like it got told to me
Starting point is 01:29:41 But I didn't really even At that point Like I was so like happy We had flipped our season around Right right right Well then I see it like later come out Now I'm pissed And then Tuesday comes around
Starting point is 01:29:51 and they start, all this media starts coming out that I'm going to get taken away, taken out of the playoffs, right? So when the media comes, meaning, you know, your podcast or somebody else, I'm, man, this isn't legit. He should take his win away. Yeah, I would never, by the way.
Starting point is 01:30:03 Multiple podcasts start bringing this stuff up, right? And start skewing the story. I feel like that really pushed NASCAR in a direction at that time. Maybe I'm wrong. They made their own decision. But, I mean, it's just how it works, right? When something gets a hold of it, they run with it, it goes.
Starting point is 01:30:16 And I didn't really speak up at all at the time. I was just waiting to see what the outcome was. Maybe I should have spoke up early and defended my case a little better beginning. But I didn't think that it was going to change because I'd seen other people wreck people for wins. Yeah, I was shocked. We got taken away. I'm like, there's no way they're taking the playoffs away. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:33 And then took it away. But I mean. So how soon after. So this is like Tuesday. You said the media starts pushing a narrative. Oh, no. This was Monday, mostly for the narratives push. It was Sunday after the win.
Starting point is 01:30:43 I mean, they were already pushing after. The years were too busy having a good day. We went back to the barn. We went to the playoffs. We worry about that. tomorrow. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so when does their announcement come out that you are missing the playoffs?
Starting point is 01:30:55 I think it came out on Tuesday. Tuesday, Tuesday, wait an extra day because they were kind of torn on this decision. So they waited extra day. And then we appeal and we put together a really good defense, but you're not going to win. I mean, look, looking back, either way, that's one of my favorite wins because I knew where we were as organization. I did whatever it took to win. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:31:15 And then we go back the year after and we win it again. And also, guys, if you're not first, your last. That's right, buddy. That's what I'm fucking saying. Yeah. We need to get more respect on Talladega, Nass. Right, 100%.
Starting point is 01:31:25 All right. That's a callback. I pretty much created a rule, too, for NASCAR after that. Can't go to. I set the line. You can only go there. You can only care so much. Right.
Starting point is 01:31:35 Right. That's just crazy. So what is your interaction with this guy? What was his name again? Joey. Joey. What's your interaction with Joey the first time you see him after the altercation with your wife, your wife, kids, the whole thing?
Starting point is 01:31:48 He got fined. NASCAR did what they were supposed to do in that. So like, we never really had to cross pass in that sentence. I talked to him in Mexico. It was the first time I talked to. It's a great place to, yeah. Yeah, I figured it all up and after squabble some odds. Draw the line.
Starting point is 01:32:04 Yeah. And we yapped back and forth and that was about it. And then. Oh, so it wasn't cordial. It was, uh, I mean, it was like screw you pretty much, but more aggressive than that. But anyways, this year we actually talked and I was like, like, hey, man, squash it, I guess. Pretty much. It was the first time.
Starting point is 01:32:25 Squash it, I guess, is a tough one. It was. Squash it is one thing. We race each other fine. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's the big deal. But, you know, there's a respect taking place on the, on the track. You're not inviting him to dinner. Yeah, we're probably not going to that. That's fair. That's fair.
Starting point is 01:32:39 How does your wife feel being, was it two years removed now from this? Yeah. What's her opinion on it? Is she still like, hey, fuck this guy? It was totally fair. Oh, I don't know what my wife's opinion is. The girls will hold some grudges for sure. I'll tell you what, I'll hold the grudge too.
Starting point is 01:32:54 Yeah. I'll burn a bridge standard. Right, 100% swim. No doubt. I'm ready to fucking go sometimes. No doubt. So I get it. I mean, every weekend, there's potential you're going to run into somebody.
Starting point is 01:33:04 I mean, we're around each other every weekend. We've got to race all these guys every weekend. I mean, you lose sleep over it sometimes for sure over certain people. Right. Is that the most mad you've ever been in asking, like in your driving career? No. What you got for me now, dude? Most mad.
Starting point is 01:33:21 The wind being taken away, most emotional for sure. Not the win being taken away. The playoffs. The playoffs being taken away was the most emotional that I've ever been, like, just don't understand. Yeah. But then coming back and winning it last year was like the ultimate full circle moment. And he dominated it again. He dominated it in 2024 and then he just comes around 2025 and just dominates it.
Starting point is 01:33:45 I love that. And the cool part about that, like, one thing I like about sports in general, that was my worst track. ever coming up, Richmond was, like, sucked at it, I felt like. Yeah, yeah. And I had to put more work into it, and all of a sudden it became my best track. So like, when you have a weakness
Starting point is 01:34:02 and you work on it and you can see it come around, like that's what I love about sports. Yeah. Like, if I can't dribble a basketball with my left hand because I'm right-handed. Like your boy. Yeah, like your boy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:34:12 I'm gonna sit and dribble with my left hand until I figure it out. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Same thing with a backhand and pickleball, whatever it is. Like, I like the improvement cycle of sucking at something, and getting better over time at it.
Starting point is 01:34:22 Yeah. The fastest change you can see the easiest. It's just working on the one thing you're the worst at. Right. Over and over and over again. That's the most rewarding, right? Yeah, absolutely. Getting your butt kicked at something you suck at
Starting point is 01:34:33 and then just saying, I'm going to bear down and figure this out. I love it. I love you breaking down the entire story because it juices me up. And to me, like, having those kind of storylines and NASCAR, really in any sport is like... Need more of it.
Starting point is 01:34:46 Well, yeah, you need more of it. Got to get back to it. A couple guys just being like, I don't like this. A couple guys duking it out. I'm swinging on this. Yeah, right. Hockey.
Starting point is 01:34:54 You go to a hockey game like you're, you want to see some goals, but really you want to see. You want to see some fighting. You want to see a Russian and American. Right. Yes. Paul's always, Paul's always want me to fight. I always wanted to fight.
Starting point is 01:35:05 Yeah. And now I want to come in and dive out of nowhere and just tackle somebody. Dude, who showed us the video of the two guys? It was Noah and Ross. Yeah, yeah. They were showing us two dudes. Well, that was BS because Noah took one and then they grabbed his arm when he was going to give one back.
Starting point is 01:35:20 It was the Jeff Gordon. That was a good one. Keselowski and Gordon and Harvick pushed him in and initiated it. Harvick going in there and just pushing it. You're kind of just instinct. He started that whole thing. Have you seen our gas man tossing people around at North Wilkesboro? It wasn't Raider.
Starting point is 01:35:37 It was Justin White, the other. Oh, yeah. Type in Ricky Stenhouse versus Kyle Bush. Kyle Busch versus Ricky Stenhouse. Ricky Stenhouse versus Kyle. And Justin White, I would say pound for pound at our shop. super strong super strong like reps out 405 on bench we had to get bigger dumbbells
Starting point is 01:35:54 pisses you off but he's he's not Ricky and them start going after Ricky's a dog too up for athlete like yeah yeah he's a good guy 40s yeah 40s got you Ricky's a good dude me and Ricky came in the same same time together so they're talking cameras are around a little bit and nobody can leave this track if you wreck out there's no way out that's what great till the race is over oh really yeah oh shit
Starting point is 01:36:16 thanks here we go literally looked away the last the right one happened. Boom! Now it goes. But here it comes. Wait, do you see Big, big, big boy White come up on the Jay White.
Starting point is 01:36:29 There's Ricky's dad getting after Kyle, which was crazy. Oh shit. Oh, shit. Wait, until the end there. There's the truck driver. That trucker, that's Kevin.
Starting point is 01:36:42 There's Jay White. He tosses them. Oh, damn. Tosses them. Now he's getting him off. NASCAR PR hates that we're talking about this but I'll be honest with you man this shit gets me fucking moving down oh they they love the fights because they pump them up all the time they post the videos everywhere
Starting point is 01:36:59 and it's so funny I'll just use football for reference but like Michigan and Ohio State Michigan wins they put the flag in the thing there's a big fight guys are getting maced they come out there's no there's no room for that in football no room and there's pro 40 year it's like the game the game yeah swinging on each other it just means more yeah these guys like okay wait hey so what do we do we do Right. Right. Let's just all is fair and love and war. Yeah. Let it happen. I wish they let the drivers fight. I was going to say, do you guys
Starting point is 01:37:26 feel like they shouldn't let it, let it eat a little bit? I think you like hockey. Like hockey, they let them, what do they give them like 30 seconds or something? And then they break it up. No, no, it's, yeah, it's like if they hit the ice, they break it up. If they get up against the boards a certain way or it's, yeah, when it's over, you just know it's over. Put some parameters around it. What I think is, is, let's say that situation happens. You were rec 22. One of your pit crew guys, got to go fight another pit crew guy.
Starting point is 01:37:52 On the lawn. So I'm about that, but like, we're boys with all, like the pit crew's like a fraternity. All the guys. Yeah, but those hockey guys are boys too. Sometimes you got to fucking... Now, if the picker guys were to mess with him,
Starting point is 01:38:03 then yeah, I'd want to take him down. But, like, the beef is between the drivers. We're like... The pit crews were... See, they all say... We were... Unified. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:13 Oh, no. We're coming out of fraternity out here. I've been to... I've been to a lot of frat parties. They fight. Yeah. They get into it. If we're coming over.
Starting point is 01:38:20 and like one of their guys is going to go after Austin and then I'm going to go after him. I have no like backup or thought that my guys won't be there for me. No, absolutely. No doubt. Them boys are going to be there. No doubt.
Starting point is 01:38:30 I know we're kind of wrapping up. We're going to hit this segment in a second, but because we have a pit crew guy on, we've talked about this a lot of time on this podcast, what kind of gifts are you getting your boys? I was waiting for this one. I was waiting for this one. Because you're about community.
Starting point is 01:38:43 You're guys, you love them. You look at a relationship you guys have. Quarterback offensive line type stuff. They get cash for me every year. He does. He does give us a nice. envelope at the end of the year.
Starting point is 01:38:51 Yeah. How many boys? And he doesn't have to do that. How many boys are on a pit crew? There's five on the pick crew and then there's like six or seven on road crew engineer, crew chief combo. All right. So he does.
Starting point is 01:39:01 11 or 12 guys. He does give us a nice envelope at the end of the year. A nice envelope? Yeah. That's kind of good. We did have one year where we had a bonus program with him for if we did a certain like, like a time on a stop. And we got a lot of them.
Starting point is 01:39:17 And I think he realized, shit, maybe should have done this. No doubt. So now we don't do that anymore. I love that. Is that true? I guess so. Yeah, it is. It sounds like he didn't set it up.
Starting point is 01:39:26 We, Ray set it up with you in the off season one year. Ray might have helped me out there with pick coach. It was, uh, it was, uh, it was for 12 second, like, stops. But now like you're in the eights and highs. Well, yeah, but that was for five. Yeah, there was five lug. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:39:38 Now for one lug, we do like, if we get an eight second stop or like under an eight-eight or something, you'd give us, you know, a little cheddar for every one of those. A little cheddar. I think we did a little too many of those fast stops. Hell yeah. breaking the bank a little bit i'll tell you what you want faster stops you haven't sent for the boys that's right yeah that's right but no he does give us a nice envelope at the end of the year it's good to hear it because there needs to be more of that community not just a dinner like some of
Starting point is 01:40:00 these other drivers i was here yeah yeah some sort of sponsor you have like merch or a t-shirt or something i take my guys to a really nice dinner spend your fucking money on me that's what you want that's what you want well he definitely does it i love that this segment is uh one word you have one word that's it to describe these photos that we're about to show you on the screen right here, okay? One word. One word. One you can jump into. What are we going to see here?
Starting point is 01:40:25 Well, let's get the first photo. That's not it. That's not a photo. Legend. The goat. Yeah. That's two words. Hifinated, hyphenate it.
Starting point is 01:40:33 They'll go. I love it. He deserved two words. Next one. Hero. Trailblazer. Okay. Beautiful.
Starting point is 01:40:42 Beautifully said. My grandfather. Those of you who don't know who that is, that is Richard Childress. Yeah. When he was young. That's my grandpa. I got a word, but I can't. Crain?
Starting point is 01:40:56 Speak your truth. Crain? He looks like a crane to me. Okay. All right. Graceful creatures. Graceful creatures, cranes. What's the, I'll come up with another because I can't say the one.
Starting point is 01:41:09 Slender Man. Yeah, slender man. Hyphenated slender man. This dude just creeps in the night. Yeah, he's creeping all over the place. You don't know what he's going to do. Let's pause on this real quick. Let's pause on this guy.
Starting point is 01:41:21 What is? Because low key, this guy's one of my favorites. He is a dog of a driver. He's one of my favorites because of every driver. He doesn't give a shit. He doesn't care. I respect that. He doesn't care about making friends.
Starting point is 01:41:32 And dudes are like, you know, you hear people say things very nicely. Yeah. But it's a disrespectful thing nice. What about this dude? I mean, I think he's got the right attitude, truthfully. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it is what it is.
Starting point is 01:41:47 I mean, some people are pissed off about it. But, you know, I mean, he, pisses me off. Yeah. Some of them are like, I got, I had one of the best cars we've had all year at Michigan
Starting point is 01:41:55 and he caused a wreck and I was in it and I'm like, actually my grandfather was viral. He said something about his eyes being close together. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 01:42:04 Shout out grandpa. Yeah. So anyways, you know, I just, you know, I think he's doing his own thing. He has a good driver.
Starting point is 01:42:12 I think we need that. I think we need, NASCAR needs that. Every sport needs that. You need a villain to have. You need characters out there. Who's going to be the Batman? I just want to see if he,
Starting point is 01:42:20 . If he's able to continue to I think the hardest part is if he's going to be able to continue to do it. Right, right, right. There's multiple, I think it was Larson that said this. He's just most fresh in my mind because he was last week, but he was talking about how... It's very hard to do it over a long period of time. Right.
Starting point is 01:42:37 Being as aggressive as he is, like honing those traits of learning when and when not to be aggressive because causing the wrecks can shorten up your career a little bit. Yeah. You got a little bit of a taste of his own medicine from Corey Heim and saying... Yeah, Corey Heim, that little duo there, it's... It's pretty good. I like Corey Heim. He was straight up,
Starting point is 01:42:54 legit about what he thought about him too. What do you say? I hate him. Oh, shit. Straight up. Quote. I think he's quoted said, I hate him.
Starting point is 01:43:01 He can look it up. No way. The interview I saw. Yeah. He kind of. He wrecked him for a truck championship. He's the heel. He's the villain.
Starting point is 01:43:10 He's the joker of your guys. He's the joker of our league. He's a good race car driver. Both are amazing race car drivers. Oh, let's get back. Let's do the one word, Sheffey. Jerk.
Starting point is 01:43:30 I used to like Joey a lot too, but after the stuff when he did on Pit Road, that... You're holding that grudge, huh? Bad taste in my mouth. And a chin strap beard? Yeah, that has villain written all over. There's a bond villain. There's a character in, Jim Carrey played the character in Sonic and the Sonic. Yeah, that's who he looks like.
Starting point is 01:43:51 Okay. All right. I haven't seen it. But jerk is Paul's word. I got to come up with a word. Yeah. I'm going to say this because I think he would say it. Stingy. He even says he's stingy. That's a good one. Okay. Stingy. Ooh, Naff. That's kind of three words. Well, it's one, it is three.
Starting point is 01:44:14 But what does NAF stand for? You don't know what NAF stands for? Non-athletic folk. Oh, okay. Nav, come on. Yeah, okay. All right. We call them NARPs. NARPs. Yeah, non-athetic regular person. Yeah, muggles. Yeah, we use muggles.
Starting point is 01:44:25 Yeah, we were big on NAFs. My DEV's coach. This is tough, man. Because he's really good at what he does. He's been good for a long time. He's a champion. A really good race car driver. Can you say unathletic?
Starting point is 01:44:46 Unathletic. No, that's true, but he's an owner. Oh, that's a good one. He's an owner. And a driver. Got one more. One more. Last one.
Starting point is 01:44:58 Oh. Come on, baby. What do you got for that dog? Aggressive. Ooh, I like that. Yeah, that's a good one. You know we played against each other? I did.
Starting point is 01:45:12 I'm sure he's told you. Oh, yeah. You guys have a rap against each other, right? We put mitts on each other. I need to find or have somebody find a clip of that. We got a hat. There's got to be something. What was it?
Starting point is 01:45:21 I'm sure you put, that was 10. 10. I'm sure you put me down. I was skinny back then. I mean, I was 285. Like, that was my first start ever in college. That's crazy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:45:31 First start ever. or 285. That was my red shirt freshman year. And yours too, right? Yep, retro freshman year. And it's like, I mean,
Starting point is 01:45:39 just the team. When we play, I think it was a, it was a slacking. Well, first half wasn't. First half, we were 2814.
Starting point is 01:45:47 You know, we were in it. We were playing. I was in that game being like, that's called football. Have you seen his special teams play that he messed up
Starting point is 01:45:53 and called and like it worked out for him against Florida? Yeah, we had a fake pun on against Florida. And I was trying to audible it, but nobody could
Starting point is 01:46:00 hear me. So I'm like, down to the swamp. Yeah, I'm like, all right, we're just going to run it because nobody heard me,
Starting point is 01:46:06 obviously. So I was trying to check out of it. And our punter gets the ball and just takes off, darts, gets the first down and then gets clobbered on the sideline when he was already out of bounds. And like,
Starting point is 01:46:18 their sideline, like the crowd is right on you. Have you ever played in the swamp? No, I've never even been to the swamp. Swamp's awesome. Awesome place to play. And the sideline was like right on top.
Starting point is 01:46:29 So he gets launched into this like metal fence and like our strength. coach gets in the face everybody's getting in the face of the Florida player and we get another 15 yards in the first down and worked out good and you can see my coach just screaming at me on the sidelines like coach at work come on chill out man yeah it was awesome I love that he's own play is that the only one you ever kind of try bowling green fake punt Florida 2012 2012 yeah he's got that try this out actually yeah you know 2012 just go to videos Yeah, I don't know, maybe it's not up anymore.
Starting point is 01:47:11 Too old, man. Yeah, too old, brother. We're old. I know. World Wiley vets, man. On YouTube, so I didn't play office lines on my senior year. And my dad made like, yeah, by the way, that's crazy.
Starting point is 01:47:22 Yeah, it was nuts. I had two games and I ended up getting like, became an All-American because of these two games. And he had the film. And I have like my junior highlights from when I was a nose tackle. Horrendous. Awful football player. My senior year, I still to this day,
Starting point is 01:47:36 can't find that highlight tape. and it breaks my heart. Yeah, man. Because sometimes I just want to sit there and be like, yeah. I kind of like, yeah. I like kind of a dog. Yeah. People hate that.
Starting point is 01:47:45 I love kind of going back of memory land. Yeah, I just found my old DVD highlight tape from high school. Pop that in every once in a while. Juice it up. Honey, come look at this. Hey, your boy. Come look at your boy. Come look at your husband.
Starting point is 01:47:57 What was the highlight of your football career? Like the number one thing. Was it the punt? No, Mac champion. Winning the Mac Championship. Because we were like, when I came out into Bowling Green Claussen, who was my coach, he came in the same time I did. And in the five years we were there, like, we built it up to be like a powerhouse in the Mac.
Starting point is 01:48:16 And that was super satisfying that we finally won the Mac championship my last year. And then he went to Wake Forest and I went down there with him. And so it was just, it was a cool story. Yeah. What about individual play? Like, what's the greatest play in your head? Sticking back Prescott for sure. Yeah?
Starting point is 01:48:31 Yeah, down in Mississippi State. Let's go. Sticking him. Sack? Or he tried to run it? No, he was trying to run. So it was the end of the game. game. They were trying to drive and just wear the clock out and win the game. We were down by a
Starting point is 01:48:42 point. We were down in their red zone. It's a quarterback keep. Little power came at me. Popped him. Strip the ball out. They said forward progress so they didn't give us the fumble. And then the next play after they tried to run a jet sweep, ran the guy down on the sideline, tackled him the next play. And then it was fourth and like, I don't know, two or three. And we stuck them there and got the ball back and gave our offense a chance, but they are sure-handed short white receiver slot guy. You know they always make the catch. Yeah, always. Dropped it on third down, man.
Starting point is 01:49:15 Would it would have put us in field goal range. To win the game against Mississippi State. Yeah, would have been nice. Bowling Green upset. We had some dogs on that team in 2013, man. Sounds like it. We had some good football players. Buddy, I'll be honest.
