Hey guys, it's us
The Jonas Brothers.
I'm Joe.
I'm Kevin.
And I'm Nick.
And guess what?
We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
But, you know, tired and sick.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Just listen.
We don't care where you hear it.
Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy,
not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Winning on Clay is an art.
The rallies are relentless,
and at the French Open, only the toughest survive.
I'd know.
I competed there for decades.
Join me, Renee Stubbs, on the Renee Stubbs' tennis podcast
for no-nonsense breakdowns of the biggest matches,
the toughest players, and the moments that define Roland Garris.
She's an outsider to win the French fame.
And she likes Clay.
Listen, Lennar Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now,
and I actually can win on any surface.
Listen to the Renee Stubbs Tennis Podcast on the I-Hart Radio
Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
That's where Sports Slice comes in.
I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise,
breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline.
And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves.
their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear.
Listen to SportsSlice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
And for more, follow Timbo Slicalife-Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok.
Welcome.
You might be thinking to yourself, there's a person sitting in the guest chair already.
And when you guys do promos, they're usually not sitting there.
Well, our guest today is the very handsome, the very talented, two-time All-Star, Olympic.
Did you go? The medalist? No.
No. No. Well, I hate to say that in the podcast. But here we are.
Went to the Olympics, played in the NHL finals, and is the captain of the Nashville Predators,
our boy, Roman Yose. Right of applause for the boy right now. Just a round of applause.
Absolutely happy to have the boy. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Very excited today, little puppies. As always, I'm joined by my boy, Willie C. The Wolf,
Will Compton.
The boy.
How do you feel today, my baby?
I feel great, man.
I'm excited about, I'm excited about interviewing our boy, Roe.
Excited to be here.
Yeah.
It's going to be an exciting day.
It's an exciting day.
We've got all our puppies.
Now that we're getting our dental figured out,
and we're laying out that hay,
like we promise we lay out the hay,
so the puppies can lay down and get comfy.
We got them a nice 35-inch plasma screen TV
because puppies don't need big screens.
They have beautiful, beautiful blue eyes,
and they can see perfectly.
All right, and they're watching us right now,
They're loving it.
And if you're not watching us and it's ripping through your cerebellum walking down that highway, you get to listen to the puppies.
And you might think to yourself, oh, Daddy, he's sending a little sick right now.
What's wrong, Dad?
Well, yeah, I got some of that throat stuff going on right now.
But guess what?
A grinder gets up and he goes to work.
All right?
I get up and I grind for the boys.
And when my guy, Roman Yosey comes on, I'm thinking, I can't miss this.
I can't miss another opportunity for our foundation to grow and be best friends because we have each other's number.
Roman and Will they don't have each other's number.
All right?
And is that ever going to get worked out?
Probably not because Roman and I are best friends.
All right?
Sit back.
Sit back, relax, and please enjoy the show.

what a great weekend and plus you we walked in and fucking kid rocks there and everyone like like
literally the owner of the bar
you know Steve right
yeah I've met him before
Steve's like texting me like hey kid rocks coming in
blah blah blah blah make sure everyone's cool
so I'm like hey
will be cool
which which
we'll talk about how inappropriate you were
and a bunch of other people were there
so I was like all right everyone just fucking relax
when he gets here
so fucking Bob walks in
yeah you're gonna dude that's gonna give you the jitters
seriously yeah
but anyway Bob walks in and he literally goes
starts going through everybody's like hey Bob
Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you.
And within three minutes, Will goes, all I'm thinking about is Joe Dirtlines.
Like, loud as fuck.
So everybody could be here.
I was just like, God damn it.
Steve.
That's just a stupid joke.
It was a dumb joke.
My bad.
My bad.
Anyway, we get, we get, uh, we get Zach in there.
And Zach's like, he like, he like, well, remember, hey, we didn't tell Zach.
Oh, we didn't tell him.
He said, his real name is Bob.
We said, hey, we got a potential podcast guest that we've been trying to get on
but we're not going to tell you who it is.
And he got there, remember Zach?
Zach, yeah, Zach's, Bob's like, hey, I was going, Bobby goes,
kid rock.
And then Will goes, God damn it, Zach, like, be cool.
Be cool.
There's a mic in front of your face.
Like, I was not expecting it.
Like, I was just star-stunned.
Like, that's who it was because I just thought it was,
whatever it's called.
I just thought it was going to be, like, another football player,
like, no offense, but.
Okay.
Jesus.
Okay.
And I'm shaking all your buddy's hands.
And then I just get to this guy wearing the trucker hat,
Bob Sear T-shirt and cowboy boots and starch jeans.
And I look up and I'm like, it's Kid Rock.
And Will is like, Zach.
Damn it.
Zach, be cool, man, be cool.
No, it is.
I mean, it is like, I just think in my mind, like,
if me personally, if I'm Bobby or if I'm Kid Rock,
he's way too old to be Bobby now.
I didn't even know his name was Bob.
Yeah, well, me neither.
I'm like ready for him to be like,
yo, what's up, man?
I'm Kid Rock.
Like, just be fucking Kid Rock for him.
He's got a line in one of his albums,
Devil Without a Cause.
He's like talking about,
you too old a kid,
too soft to rock.
And I saw him like,
yo, he's both those right now.
Yeah.
But he's still Kid Rock.
He's a fucking badass still.
Yeah.
Dude,
Kid Rock's the fucking man.
We're like thinking this stuff
in our mind.
What's up,
man?
I'm Will.
Will,
what's up,
man, Bobby.
He's thinking like,
holy shit.
Your name's not Bobby, dude.
Yeah,
you're not Bobby.
Did he introduce himself as Bobby to you or Bob?
Yeah, Bobby.
Bobby?
Oh, hello, Robert.
He introduced himself to me as Bob.
What's his last name?
Rock?
Yo, what is his last name?
Look that up, Zach.
Yeah, he's already on it.
Dude, I remember I grew up on a ranch in Cave Creek, Arizona, like a 13-acre, like, horse ranch.
And I remember, like, I won this, like, stereo out of a raffle.
and the first CD I had
was Devil Without a Cause
by Kid Rock dude
And I popped that thing in there
I'd be in my room
Just so anti-everything
But Kid Rock at that moment
Just like just I will not succumb to the man
Type of act
I was such a skid dude
In the nighttime you're searching
The Pamela Anderson videos
No I had never seen
I never even
We didn't really have internet
We had there was like a there was an office
At the front of the ranch
We had an office at the front of the ranch
And there was one computer
And it was my mom's work computer
and we didn't have internet
we didn't have internet in the
and the house
so when I figured out
this friend named Waylon
and I figured out what porn was
he showed me
he was that friend
had my first chew with him
you know what I'm saying
all that shit
did a couple of things
whatever
and he was like a super bad influence kid
and I get to
I figure out what porn is
and I'm like I'm walking past the office
one day and I'm like yo is that a computer
and I'm in there dude
I swear to God I was in there for
four days straight, 12 hours every five, all day.
And my mom would come in and be like, what are you doing?
Just like hitting the minimize button as fast as possible.
Like lower the volume.
Like, nothing, mom.
And that's back on pop-ups were relevant.
No, pop-ups were everywhere.
And the most disgusting pop-up.
I just didn't know, dude.
It'd be like a girl and a snake all of a sudden.
Like, you know, what?
I'm just looking for the regular stuff.
Yeah, yeah.
I'm 12, 13.
I want to see missionary, dude.
I want to see missionary.
I want to see missionary.
I want to see her on bottom and me on top
I want to see those kinds of things
But then a snakes get popped up
I'm like yeah yeah yeah yeah
The animal thing was that about
Long story short you took four days
That computer dead
Couldn't my mom went up there
And like went to look at emails one day
Thing wouldn't even fucking start dude
That thing put a gun to its own head
And shot itself
It was so done
Roman you got any good ones
And uh
What's the first time you watched porn Roman
What's a good porno story from
Sweden yeah um I don't know probably same age to be honest yeah same time how old is that
how old are you saying uh I was about 12 or 13 years old that sounds about yeah sounds about right
yeah sounds about right too dude I remember did your parents give you to talk about it like did
you know no never same still haven't they never talked to you about it dude so my dad here's
what happened with me my dad got like pissed off and because you know pop-ups were happening you know
you're like young you don't you don't you don't think that they know but they know and he's like
well let me talk to you outside for a minute
I have no idea
like what he's about to say
I'm like all right
hey dad what's up
he's like
what is tits and askalore.com
no he did not
say that I swear to God
immediately I'm thinking of the buddy
you were talking about I'm thinking of my friend
I'm like a son of a bitch got me god
dude um Trim Montgomery
he was on the computer earlier
and I was telling him to get off of it
because I didn't you know why it
I didn't why it's your boy out
Yeah, yeah.
You sold him out?
Yeah, he was never allowed to come to my house again.
What a terrible friend.
Roman, you see that?
Don't fucking, don't ever be boys of will.
When fear is happening, yes.
He's under the bus.
He was like, he wasn't like that good of a friend anymore.
But anyway, throw him under the bus.
And he's like, if I ever catch you on a porn site again, I will box your jaws.
Your dad said that?
That was my talk.
So me, I was just a kid that, you know, you stayed at your buddies.
I was like, hey, man, you got Cinemax, you got HBO.
So you haven't watched porn since?
No, no, I did all the time.
You guys got it.
Look at his phone right now.
This history is crazy, dude.
Oh, man.
That was my story.
I got so many getting caught watching porn videos.
Would you always have it on the previous channel?
Like, you have it on ESPN and showtime?
That's the oldest trick in the book, dude.
Oldest trick in the book.
I remember, ah, fuck it, dude.
It's our podcast.
I say what I want.
The first time I, like, jerked off.
Like, dude, but everyone, you guys all remember the first time you guys jerked off.
Oh, yeah, my left leg went shaking.
Okay, don't even.
Hold.
So, dude.
about 13 like so like by the way the story I just told like didn't jerk off once I'm just
staring at it dude like literally 12 hours of my day I'm just watching porn like I'm not even
I'm like yeah it seems like something's going on down there but oh yeah oh my god like so sexually
frustrated dude running around like punching other kids whatever so I figure out dude I'm on the bus
I go to desert canyon middle school and I go on this bus and these seventh these eighth graders
I'm in seventh grade these eighth graders are talking about jerking off and I'm like
in my head like I've literally Googled like how do you make yourself do it because I think to
myself I'm thinking at this age I'm like oh it only works if a guy and a girl does it for you
like that's the only way it happens that's how babies are made right so I'm like I'm like lost and I
hear these kids talking about yeah jerked off last night yeah they're talking about all that stuff
and I'm like yeah yeah oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I'm yeah I'm gonna I'm sitting like two rows in front
I'm like yo my mind is blown dude I'm like my my mind is blown dude I'm like my my
is blowing up. I'm like, holy shit.
You can do it yourself.
You can do it yourself.
So I rip over to the house as fast as I can, dude.
I get home, parents aren't home, and I start to watch them porn, but I'm like,
ah, dude, I don't want to get caught. So I like wait to my, I wait, my mom comes home
50 minutes. And I was like, dude, you're on top of it. You knew she was coming home.
Yeah.
So I'll wait until she goes to sleep. I'm in the living room.
Do we have one computer in the living room?
In the living room now.
and moved.
And I'm watching,
do you remember lime wire or frost wire?
Yeah.
Just like HIV and AIDS
for all computers everywhere.
And I was downloading some shit.
I don't even know what I was looking at, dude.
But I'm kind of like,
just tugging at it.
I'm not really doing nothing.
I don't really know what's going on, dude.
And all of a sudden, like I'm sitting there.
And I'm like watching it.
I'm like, all right, go.
And my leg starts like going, like shaking like this.
I'm like, yo, what is?
What is happening?
And I just made a mess, dude.
Made an absolute mess.
Keyboard was never the same.
Hey, that's so funny.
Dude, that was a first time, dude.
Been chasing that high ever since, dude.
I've been chasing that high, dude.
Out there, like, God, I gotta get back on that.
How'd I get back on that train?
How'd I get back on the train where you could do it multiple times?
Every once in a while, every once in a while you get one back, you're like, that was kind of like it.
That was like an eight at ten, dude.
You're just like, you're stuck.
about it you're distraught about the first time it happens you're like what yeah what did I
just do I gotta clean this up now dude I have some funny stories man we can do it we can
rattle that off on other five I want to hear you I want to hear your story go ahead we got
we got Rome we got we got Roman I know I know we got to hear it um but Rome hey you better
think of yours too because we're coming to you next you got you got you got to think of
years got to have something so I uh he's kind of the same situation fuck you what I get
I got into, dude.
Is coach going to get pissed?
I'm sitting there figuring out, okay, my buddies told me this is how I do it.
So I'm going to have a little.
Your buddies?
Yeah, my buddies.
Yeah, my buddies.
Sure.
So I'm sitting in the bathroom, run the shower, obviously, taking a shower.
Yeah.
Get out the lotion, make a little scene about it.
Start, you know, going to work.
Boy starts going to work pretty quick.
And obviously, you know, it doesn't, it doesn't last long for a young.
youthful dude.
Yeah, or 27 years old
and something like that.
But keep going.
Dude, my leg,
like yours did,
my left leg starts like twitching
and it starts like leaning up
like on the counter
and it's just like,
oh!
And it just goes everywhere.
Fast word the next night
can't wait to do it again.
I already start taking a shower.
I'm like,
I'm going to do this in the shower.
That's why I had to learn the hard way about shampoo.
So I'm like, oh,
what can I use in the shower?
Because the lotion,
it was falling off way too quick.
I'm like,
it ain't working.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I can think, come, think, oh, it's shampoo.
So I start going to work with shampoo.
Well, this one's hilarious because I didn't go to the second time.
Calls a shot, this one's hilarious.
I thought I was about to.
Oh, no.
Hey, and then I just started pissing.
What?
What?
What?
What?
Hey.
Oh, my God.
That wasn't it.
That wasn't it.
That wasn't it.
That was that.
Quick try.
Then as I started going, that's when I started burning.
the shampoo and that's why
that's when you knew soap was just off limits
after that point. I used to do some weird
shit though back in my day man like
yeah I feel like when you're that young of an age
you'll try anything. You're just an animal
yeah oh dude dude no question
you'll go dude and you'll just look at stuff I remember being
like eight and looking
at a shoe box and the little hole in the shoe box
being like I could
that could be something like I'm like in my head like that could be
something like I don't know or just a pillow
laying there helplessly like
A pillow?
Or stuffed animal, like, oh, you're in for a knife.
You have no idea what's about happening to you, dude.
I'm tear it up, man.
Oh, dude.
So, Roe.
Who you got taking this thing?
Game 7.
Now, obviously, by the time this releases, it's going to be over.
Like, the same-tips are going to be decided.
What's game?
Oh, shit.
Game 7 tomorrow.
I think Boston, honestly.
Yeah.
I think Boston's going to win.
They just have so much experience.
with game sevens and a bunch of guys who've been there how much strategy is involved in like how much
strategy plays into hockey because we're talking about one game and a seven game series like dude if we if we
played seven game series there would be so much frustration by the seven games because it's such
a strategic game and football like game preparation everything on like being on your P's and Q's like
I don't know what you guys look at but I know from defensive perspective like it's all like
what formations are coming out of what
but personnel's, what are their tendencies in this formation, yada, yada, yada,
to where you can kind of narrow some stuff down.
And by game seven, it's just like, how many fucking trick plays are they going to have
or just tendency breakers that they're going to have now?
So what is that with hockey?
It's a lot different in hockey.
It's a lot more instincts.
There's obviously some strategy.
There's systems and stuff, and you try to adjust your other team.
But honestly, like, once you're out there, you're just playing.
Like, you know the system because you play it all year.
And then once you're out there, it's all instincts.
Like, you're just trying to read the game and trying to read a game.
and trying to read and react.
And, like, just talking to a bunch of you guys.
Like, our meetings are so short to compare to you guys.
Yeah.
Yeah, we have a meeting.
Like, we have a, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, we don't, we have, like, on game days, we have maybe half an hour meeting.
And that's about it.
Like, we meet about the other team, and it's pretty much half an hour, not even sometimes.
And then you're just sharpen your skills, you're like, your skills up.
Yeah, I got to work on this.
I work on that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's crazy.
I can't imagine playing as many games.
How many, will you play 86?
82.
82.
Yeah.
How much times in between each game?
Two days normally.
And you guys just have like a 30 minute meeting?
Yeah.
Well, we have like, we have meetings on practice days and we just go over the game for like 20 minutes.
Go over the game you just play.
Yeah.
That's got to be so much more fun than like football.
Like football, you're like, okay, boys, like Monday meeting.
Okay, we played awesome or we played shitty.
You know, we had to work on this.
Tuesday's off.
Wednesday practice, Thursday practice, Friday practice, Saturday, walk through.
And you guys are there from what?
Oh, dude.
We're eight to five.
Yeah.
Every day.
Yeah.
And it's like, for us, it's really like seven, seven to five.
Yeah.
And like there's so much taking care of your body because you're banging all time.
Yeah.
Like, we got a hit.
I mean, fuck, but you guys hit all the time too.
We do.
How's your body feeling like April, May?
How's that feeling?
Honestly, it just depends on the games.
It's, uh, it's not, playoffs is, playoffs is tough.
Like, you get beat up in playoffs.
But during the year, it's, it's, I mean, there's guys who play a different way, too.
There's guys who hit all the time.
I'm
Here's your first train.
Here's your first train.
This should be an honor.
Like every bust one with the boys' podcasts,
there's always a train.
Always a train that goes by.
We just fight through adversity around here.
But I'm sorry to interrupt you.
Go ahead.
You're good.
But yeah, there's just, I mean,
like I said, like on a practice,
we barely practice anymore.
We just play games.
And then the next day we might practice,
but we practice for half an hour with the ring
for two and a half hours, max.
And then you get to go home and relax.
So it's a lot of games
and not a lot of practice.
So your days aren't very full. No, we get to rank maybe like 10 the day after a game and practice at 12. Get out of there by one.
Dude, Jesus. That would be fun too because like he said instinct like you're about to kill myself right now, dude.
Because for us, it's like a different Wednesdays, the focus is like first and second down. Thursdays is what third down?
Third down. Friday's red zone. Fridays is red zone in some two minute.
Saturday's like you put it all together through walkthroughs and stuff like that.
You've your first top 10 plays or whatever.
Yeah.
Your top 10 calls.
Well, it's impressive.
How many plays you guys have to know?
It's crazy.
Dude, it is, but like you can do like, it's just like any, studying anything.
Like word association.
Like these, these plays are all grouped together in a certain way.
Like, these are all outside zones.
A couple of nuances here, the inside zones.
Okay.
These are the unique pinpole schemes or the, like, the taxis and everything like that.
Yeah.
That's the stuff that's crazy.
But do you guys like have like defenses?
Obviously you do, like power players.
You have the guy chilling down there.
We got systems.
And our systems are all like, there's five guys on the ice.
So there's the system is like for the five guys.
Like we don't have like a defense and an offense.
Obviously the defense plays a little different than the offensive players.
But our system is all team-based.
Make sure no puck's get behind you.
Our system is all team-based.
So it's like whatever we do, like playing defense, our forwards have to play defense too.
They can't just play offense.
Once we get the puck to play offense.
If the other team has to pocket, everybody plays defense.
Yeah.
So it's not just a D-Men that play defense.
What was your process like getting to the league?
Like my brother, my brother played juniors.
He got drafted by Corpus Christi.
It was like playing for Metro, Moose, and a bunch of stuff like that.
And then my brother-in-law, he played juniors,
played for like the Colonna Rockets.
Oh, he did?
Yeah.
He played for the Colonna Rockets, which shape.
Weber, he also played for them too, right?
So I kind of get it.
I've been around football.
I'm not football hockey my whole life.
My dad's for me, Dinnamids.
and so I played hockey as a mite was eight
was a stud dude I could dangle
I was the most coordinated eight year old
how's that sound and then we went to peewee or whatever it is
and I got we went to like do a travel team
I got checked I got hit you I got de-iced or de-skated
or whatever I was out of there I quit
I never played again because I got hit
because I got hit I'm not getting it every five seconds
now I get hit it's awful
I quit dude I quit football when I was younger too for the same
reason.
Oh, really?
I got tackled.
I was like I'm out of here.
Done.
You don't like getting hit?
I love it now.
I don't mind it now.
I know.
I think it's all relative.
Yeah.
I think I like hitting someone way more than getting hit.
Oh, of course.
That is not fun.
But yeah, dude, when I was younger, I was a little bitch.
I would, like, I got hit.
I was like, fuck this, dude.
I'm out of here.
I don't want, no one nothing to do with this.
So I quit off.
Well, hockey's different, though.
Hockey, you can like kind of, you guys.
You guys take some hits, dude.
Yeah, you do.
but there's a couple of big hits once in a while
but there's also games where you're like
depending on the situation like you have to hit one
a guy like every play
like we don't have to do that like
there's some place where you have to hit a guy or you get hit
but it's not as often
so your process growing up
yeah so I played in Switzerland my whole life
I grew up in Bern Switzerland
not Sweden yep excuse me
made that mistake before the podcast
never do that again
but yeah I grew up there and played from
my hometown team pretty much my whole life and um uh played there till i was 16 and then i turned pro
in switzerland played for my hometown team again at 16 years old you turned pro well 17 was my first
season yeah Jesus that's it happens young like if you're not in hockey young like it's yeah but
it's different over here it's like like you said like they play juniors over here and then you
get drafted then you make the nchel or go to the ahl but so when when you said it's different over
here you got juniors and then they get drafted what age are they getting drafted to the
NHL, 18.
Yeah, high school.
And you're pro at like 16, 17, 17 over.
17, yeah.
But then I got drafted when I was 18, too.
And then once you drafted, you can play in the NHL.
But I played two more years after that in Switzerland, and then I came over.
After getting drafted, you played two more years in Switzerland?
How did that work?
How does that work?
It's similar to like, like, go ahead.
No, well, the leagues are good over there.
Like the European leagues, the hockey leagues are pretty good.
I don't know if Austin Matthews played in, he was the first overall.
pick he played in Switzerland the year before he got drafted because it's a really good league it's fast
and and you're playing against men so it's uh they're all strong and it's a it's a really good league so
for me i i was going to make it right to the nchel so i decided to to play there one i think it was
one more year or two more years and and just try to work on my game get better get stronger and then
then i came over but i mean some guys make it right to the nchel but it's probably similar in football
like it's only the real talent guys that make it right away like it takes yeah takes takes time
The difference between hockey and football is hockey you get drafted at a high school or when you're 18, 17, 18 years old.
And then you have the choice.
You can go to the league, right, and then try to make a team or go down to their minor league teams.
Or you can go to college and play.
And if you go to college, you can only play one year.
And then you can go play NHL.
And football, you have to be three years removed from high school.
So I, whatever, I was 17 when I graduated high school.
So when I was 20, I was eligible to play football.
but like the dudes in the states
because like in Canada
like you just play where you're from right
and you just do your thing
in Europe like you do this like you play
where you're from and then you go pro there
and then you do the process you just said like
in the states like I know some kids
that are from Arizona that like
14 15 years old had to go
move to like Michigan or Minnesota
because I think the the USA team
plays in Michigan in Ann Arbor actually
so which is with the school I went to
and so you're living with a billet family
and you're like you live
a different family at 14, 15 years old.
And, like, your boys are your hockey guys, and that's it.
Then you go play college.
Yeah.
And then at any time in college, you can just dip.
Yeah, and, like, NHL sounds like you can have more development, more of a developmental
stage.
Because in the NFL, like, if you're not ready to go, once you're ready, once you enter
the draft, like, you're not going to.
There's only going to be very few guys who are on a practice squad.
Like, I couldn't have been drafted by somebody and then played somewhere else for a year
so they can kind of, I don't know, did they get better?
Did that team help you?
Like when they drafted you, they knew you were going to play in Switzerland for another year or two.
They did.
They wanted you to develop more and work on certain aspects of your game.
And then I came over and I played in Milwaukee for a year in the H.L.
So for me, it was like that's, in hockey, it's pretty nice because you can, like, you can play, if you don't make it in the NFL, you can play in Europe.
And it's a pretty good league or you can play in the HL.
And the HL is good, too.
Like, it was great for me because I came over from Switzerland.
And the game is a lot different over there because it's a bigger ice rink and stuff.
So there's so many things I had to learn and just get stronger and get used to the North American game.
And for me, playing Milwaukee for one year was huge.
That's a wild game.
And so from Milwaukee you went to the Predators.
Yeah.
And you've been here the whole time.
Yeah.
How has that been?
Like when your first year, what was that like?
It was awesome.
Well, when I got drafted, I got drafted by Nashville.
I was like, where is Nashville?
I never heard of it.
Like never.
So, yeah.
And then I came.
my first year here was it was unreal like to be honest like everybody thinks hockey is only
growing the last couple of years because we made it to the finalist but even even my first
year here playing at bridgestone was was unbelievable like it was loud it was wild the fans
fans are unreal and obviously with making it to the finals we got the whole city kind of
came behind us but but even before it was awesome yeah you guys are studs dude the way you guys
like i don't know you guys got this energy about you like well the first off all
the fans are crazy. Like they're, they're unbelievable.
They're all about it. It's so cool how everyone's so close. And like, if you go and talk to
somebody from Nashville, they have no idea what hockey even, like, you know what I'm saying?
But they've educated themselves. And they know like, hey, well, if the puck goes past the
blue line, then everyone's going to go back. Yeah. And they've got to show for a second.
Then they've got to go back it. You know what I'm saying? And it's just like, it's wild.
And like growing up watching hockey, like that was a sport to me. Like, that was my favorite
sport to watch. And to come and watch you guys and kind of get to know you guys a little bit.
That's been the coolest thing.
My dad and my brother are like, oh, you know, Roman Yose?
It's like, yeah, we're actually boys.
Got his phone number right here?
Got his phone number right here, dude.
Yeah, oh, am I going to his wedding?
I can't make it.
I must have got lost in the mail.
I took my AOL account.
See, me, I was like, I'm like the guys you explain.
Like, I didn't, most I know about hockey is like playing it on the video game
and just kind of learning and bandwagon rooting for freaking Alex Ovechkin
being up in D.C.
So, dude, being in hockey games, it's my favorite sport to watch live.
I mean, the energy is, like, it's fast-paced, like, dude, you get.
But Bridgetstone is another level, too.
Like.
Bridgestone?
Yeah.
It's like.
It's unreal.
Like, have you played in Washington?
Yeah.
And Bridgetown's better?
I think so.
Okay.
Washington is good, too, but Bridgeton is just, it's a different atmosphere.
Like, it's like a college game, like death chance and everything.
That doesn't happen.
Awesome, man.
I haven't been to one yet in Bridgeton.
Oh, you haven't?
No, I haven't been one.
I haven't slept the catfish.
I haven't watched the boy role play.
You haven't wanted a catfish?
Slap the catfish.
Ain't that what you do?
You slap him.
You slap them.
You chug from the catfish.
What you're talking about?
Go fish to the catfish with Termironic one time?
Dude, that was the coolest thing ever.
Well, no, we had an already dead one in there.
Oh, really?
Yeah, and that pond where we were out outside of the Titans facility,
the whole facility used to be a dump.
There's, like, trash.
And they turned into a pond.
And I guess there's like a rumor like they paid an offensive line in like 15K to swim across the pond and it ain't no like basic swim.
Yeah.
Like you got to know your shit a little bit to get across that thing.
And the guy swim across it and he was like dead.
Like he was like so sick for weeks because that water is so contaminated.
Really?
And so like they're like, hey, they want you.
Because we just did the catfish thing with the I think it was the first time.
We only did it once.
It was before, like, we chugged it off the catfish or whatever.
And they, like, they're like, hey, NHL's coming for the finals.
They want to do a thing with you and Ronick.
And I'm like, Jeremy Roanick?
You mean the guy who played for the coyotes?
It was like, I mean, he played for the flyers?
Phil.
Flyers, right?
For a little bit.
For a little bit.
San Jose, I think.
Yeah, and he's like a legend.
He is, yeah.
Yeah.
And so I was like, yeah, I was fired up about it.
But this dude who started like, he gets into it.
And we were out at the pond.
and I'm like, hey, you should just know that that's some dirty water.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And he was like, I appreciate that.
And the guy's like, all right, here's what we're going to do.
You're going to get in the water.
And they said action.
And Ronik dives into the water, dude, like, mouths the water and like spits it up in the air.
And I'm like, this man is going to die, dude.
He's going to be responsible.
Get him out of there.
And, dude, it was fun, dude.
He gets into it.
He's a fun time for sure.
He's awesome.
Yeah, he definitely gets after it, dude.
I, um, do you know a guy named Bob?
corkrum. He was like a fourth line guy for the for the coyotes forever but like when I was
really young his kid his family lived in our neighborhood and we'd play like roller hockey every
single day together after after school. It was the best. It's like one of my own of my own of a lot of
coyotes games. Dude I went to a couple went to a couple coyotes games went to roadrunners games
like we had a lot of fun out there but I never like really invested into hockey until I got to
Nashville. And when I got to Nashville I mean we did the catfish thing and that was awesome.
Like I remember
And that was during the playoffs?
Was it the first time?
I think that was in the finalist wasn't it?
No,
I think the finals was the,
that was the luge thing we did.
Do you guys watch that stuff?
Oh yeah.
Do you really?
You guys get fired out.
We do get fired up.
The old line and the big dudes up there just fucking pounding beer.
Oh yeah.
We love that.
Dude, I had a lot.
No, we see that for sure.
Do you guys really?
Dude, because I was saying my head,
I'm like, you know, you got to get these boys.
Like in my,
you know, you got to pump yourself up.
Yeah, give yourself a reason.
I was so fired up to
pump you dudes up and we're like I remember sitting back there and it's all the boys and they're
like wives or girlfriends and really it was like a oh we want marcus to be there but marcus is not the
most outgoing guy in the world so we'll bring the office line and like as soon as I knew we were in it
I like caught a catfish well I bought a catfish and we go through security and I'm like all right boys
like what do you guys want to do and they're like well maybe we should just wave towels like everybody
else let's go predators like we're not going to do that like why be basic a F like let's get
this thing going
It's like, we're chuggy.
I'm going to hold this thing up.
We're going to slap the 24 ounces and we're going to put those things down, dude,
as fast as we can.
And they were kind of iffy about it.
And then they bought in, dude, and it just totally took off.
It was unreal.
It became a thing after.
Yeah, it kind of did, huh?
Remember we came to your game?
Dude, I was going to bring that up.
And they all brought catfish up.
Dude, you guys, well, I remember, it was right before you were announced captain, right?
Yeah, that was the next season right after.
Because, yeah, what, fish and Weber were gone?
Yeah, right? Or maybe Fish was still there.
Fish was captain before and then he left.
And so I remember like you guys came out and I was kind of watching y'all and you like put the sword down.
And in my head I'm like, yo, that dude, he's going to be captain.
Like he's going to for sure be captain.
You guys already knew, didn't you?
No.
You didn't know, no.
You lying, son of a bitch.
I swear, we didn't know.
But I remember like, was it like halftime or something like that?
It wasn't half time.
No, it was before the game.
It was before you guys were up in the, up in the suite.
Oh, no, yeah, it was like during the game, I think.
Yeah, because all brought catfish up and we were all like.
we were so fired up too
did they did they just play it on the screen
dude they put it on the screen and they were all like
holding the catfish up and the boys were you
hype and I'm like I'm gonna fucking run through
a wall for these boys that's what I'm gonna do it for the boys right here
that's what I'm saying I was so fired up
that's what it is though how like how sick is
if we see like we see you guys yeah in our suite
like just that's what I'm saying the boys up and we come to your game
like it's the best like when you see our athletes there
and like you appreciate like
boys coming out and support you
Dude.
Because you're like, oh, did you see that?
I'm just thinking, bro, if we were sitting on the, I guess you guys already did it,
but if we were sitting on the bench and look up and the freaking hockey teams,
they're pounding beer like, Ty, yeah, you're just, let's fucking go.
No doubt, no doubt.
And then we did it again.
Yeah, dude, I got me so fired up.
I was so stoked you guys did it because in my head I'm like,
you know, the boys, like, we got a little thing going.
That's pretty cool.
I know.
And so we did it, like, for the finals year, we did the catfish alluge thing.
And like we, like, they put the beers on top.
and I'm like drowning.
Literally that catfish was like,
I didn't drink one ounce of that beer, dude.
I was just like trying to breathe the whole time.
And finally I get the catfish,
I'm like holding it up.
And I'm so fired up,
but I'm also like trying to catch my breath.
And I see their goalie,
and I just give them the bird, dude.
I give them that bird so hard.
And I came off and one of our PR guys
texts me and goes,
little too much.
And I was like,
oh, dude, the GM gave us a talk.
Oh, really?
Brable gave us a talk to him.
They were like, hey, maybe just tone it down a little bit.
A little too much W.W.E. or whatever.
Yeah.
And I was like, I don't know, man.
I kind of love you.
That's awesome, dude.
But there's a big difference in, like, hockey etiquette and football etiquette.
I feel like for you guys to be able to fight and come off, go to the other box, get out.
Like, that's got to be like, you got to have some self-control to not just go back at that dude and fight him again.
And football, like, I don't know if it's where, like, a lot of dudes.
and football, like we, like,
everybody came from a different part.
You know what I'm saying?
I feel like hockey, I don't know.
It's just a different situation.
You know what I'm trying to say?
Yeah, but, well, the fights are kind of like,
the fights are more part of the game than aggression.
Sometimes they're aggression.
Like sometimes you,
I guess like the guys who actually fight a lot,
it's kind of part of the game.
They're trying to get the momentum for the team or the boys.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They try to get the momentum like you're down.
Like you're fighting someone.
You win the fight.
It's like three, two.
You need something.
everybody gets fired up and but but there's definitely fights from aggression like there's some
some players who don't fight a lot sometimes i get into it with a guy and and you fight but that's i mean
that's what's good about hockey like you can settle it right there yeah it's it's one against one
it's all like it's it's not like both both guys have like a fair event like the same the same
rules and stuff so they square them up and they're all yeah and then it's done like you go to box and
yeah it's like it's pretty much settled power play stuff like that yeah uh how is that
coached.
Like, how is that in the room coached?
Because, like, when we're coached, like, not fight, not that guys want to square up and fight.
Yes, we do.
Yeah, but you know what I mean.
Like, when your guys are shoving up to the play and basically you can get a penalty,
we go through situations where, you know, he's basically, you'll walk away.
Like, you're not going to fucking do anything here besides make it worse.
Like, how is that coach, how was fighting coach and implemented in, like, a strategy or in your guys's locker room?
Well, it depends.
Like, you normally know the guys who are fighting know when a good time is to fight.
And it's always like, if you have a tough guy on your team, he's fighting another tough guy.
Like, he's not going to go after some guy who never fights.
Yeah.
So he's going after the other tough guy.
And they pretty much know when a good time is to fight.
And it depends on big games.
Though, playoffs, there's not as many fights because you don't want to take a penalty just for a fight.
Right.
And then you're on the boxplay.
So, but, yeah.
Are you a fighter?
No, I got one fight.
He's two skilled.
Two skilled to fight, too skilled to fight.
I got one fight.
You got to keep him sharp, man.
Gotta keep him sharp.
Who's the tough?
I hate that.
I don't know this.
Who's the tough guy on the Predators?
Who's the one who fights?
Well, I would say Austin Watson.
Cody McLeodd last year.
Austin Watson.
Brian McGratton, man.
That guy was legendary.
Brian McGratt, he used to be like really, really tough.
Yeah, is there conversations on the bench like, hey, man, we might need you to whoop somebody's ass to get this thing going.
Like, is that, does that shit ever happen?
Dude, if you guys have an opening, I would absolutely love.
Love.
All you come in for is fighting like Happy Gilmore.
Well,
have you ever seen the documentary Ice Guardians?
No.
Have you seen it?
No.
It's unbelievable.
It's about hockey like enforcers and how like literally they be sitting there.
And like their only role like is the fight.
And then once once you get to the playoffs or games that matter, you're an H.S.
Yeah.
You're healthy scratch.
That doesn't happen.
There's,
there's not many guys like that anymore.
No, it's not like that.
Now everybody has to play.
Like everybody, um,
there's a lot of like tough guys.
Like, yeah, probably in that documentary.
those guys were like tough.
I know for the cats, Tom Wilson fights a lot.
Yeah, he's tough too.
Yeah, he swings.
He's a really good player too.
Yeah, is there ever like, you know, I shouldn't fuck with him.
Because when you're at the games and in between whistles,
that's when guys are kind of trying to alf each other a little bit.
Yeah, but it's almost like you guys know who's tough and who's not.
So it's like if I go up to a tough guy and go like, hey, he's going to know,
like, okay, like you're not going to fight me.
Or like a tough guy picks on you
Not saying you're not tough
But the tough guy of the team
Would be like hey hey
Like you know don't be a bitch
Like you want to fight somebody fight me
How did your fight go?
How did your first fight go?
It was okay actually
Did you win?
He said it was okay
Yeah
I don't know
It was more like
A wrestling match than a fight
I didn't get any punches in
But he didn't either so
Did you win the take down?
Did you win the takedown?
Yeah
Oh there is
That's all you mean
And you were never a big fighter
Like do you get after it
Then Jim or anything like that?
what fighting in the gym
no I'm saying like you know you gotta get in the gym a little bit
yeah if you want to fight
no but I was always I'm
I was always kind of weak a little bit
you know I was I was never a strong
never strong guy so
I just never and growing up in Europe
fighting is not like it's more in North America
than it is in Europe oh there is
fucking Americans this is you this is you fighting
this is your fight
let's see dude let's see Yose throw some
bows here
he's back there
is it gonna go back
back? Yeah. Okay, let's go.
It is a wrestling match. Leverage.
Look at leverage. Oh, yeah, a little Josh shot there.
He's got him up against the boards.
Dude.
Hey, that's a win, bro. That's a win.
Came over with a little Chuck Ladell over the top.
He got the tail of the tape. Yosi, 6-1, 201.
5-8.
That's that 63 guy. He talks about a shit. He does. He talks a lot of shit out there.
Do you chirp?
Yeah, do you chirp?
Not really.
Dude, you got...
I'm terrible at it.
What do you mean?
You're terrible at it.
I could see you're being really good.
That's what I'm trying.
Yeah, Taylor's a big chirper.
I'm begging to it.
I love it.
Yeah, but you're quick.
You're probably just quick and like...
Yeah, well, dude, I get a lot of my shit from videos like this.
I'll watch, like, because my wife's from Canada.
Yeah.
My brother, I've said the whole thing.
I literally grew up watching hockey.
And, like, football players, like, just say, like, ridiculous shit.
Yeah, but also growing up.
Like, N-word, I'll shoot you.
That is literally, I've been told that I probably a dozen times.
Yeah, weak ass.
Yeah, exactly.
I'm like, okay, whoa, a little aggressive.
Yeah.
But like hockey players, dude, they say the fun.
They call people wagons.
Like, hockey lingo is the best, dude.
But they're like, guys are wearing visors back in there.
Like, hey, rolled on your window before you talk to me, bud.
Like, just saying stuff like that.
I never heard that one.
Oh, dude, it's so funny.
But everyone wears a visor.
You got to be quick.
Like, to be, it kind of has to be funny.
Yeah.
If somebody chirps me, I'm just like, uh-uh.
Well, I mean, it's a second language, too, right?
English.
Like, you got to, like, I'm sure you get some running.
guy out there you're like hey what's up you pile on the guys just like duh yeah okay all
this guy doesn't want to talk at all yeah you're definitely nobody who probably thinks about it
not thanks about it but you just kind of know what you're gonna go to I feel like if you're
gonna chirp you got a couple in the back pocket that's what I'm not a big like you got
to just too like she says something you got to come back to have you gotta have some form right
enough yeah you know you did you got a couple who chirps in the team um
Austin Watson you know Austin sounds like a boy
P.K. is good, too.
Does he chirp?
He's quick.
Is he quick?
He's quick.
He's quick and witty.
What is this?
Good one.
The pussy.
Who's this?
Who's this fighting?
That's Watson, yeah.
So, yeah, this is Austin Watson fighting.
And it's a video, they go to the box and they start hanging out.
They start having a good conversation.
The words come up on the screen.
Dude, it's the best.
You done?
You done?
Hey, good job.
You done?
Hey, good job.
Water, buddy.
Water, buddy.
Hey Watts, we're going to work on our cardio this summer.
I'm dying after like 10 seconds, man.
That's so funny, dude.
They were really going at it, though.
They were kind of...
But that's why they were...
They were brother-lying each other.
Like, they know it's kind of like...
For morale?
It's just a fight, and it's not like...
I'm sure there's aggression sometimes.
Like, sometimes you get into it,
but a lot of times they fight to get the momentum and stuff.
And then it's done after the fight.
Sorry, I didn't even get you.
Oops on me.
me oops no i was just going to say too it's like part of the culture to protect your like
your like your guys yeah like um i heard uh what we were talking wain grisky was talking about
his enforcer that makes swirley guy yeah he's like i wouldn't have been griskey without this
guy you know he protected me on the ice the whole time no it's that's what it is like you like
they protect the star players like they make sure everything everything is like in order like
guys don't like do any cheap shots on on the star players
And I mean, I have so much respect for those guys.
It's it's I mean, they're tough when you're out there on the ice and you see them fight.
You're like, wow.
Dude, there's such a respect factor in hockey that I appreciate so much.
Like, I love it when guys will skate up on the goalie, ice the goalie a little bit and you guys are just on them.
Doesn't matter how big the dude is.
You guys just take care of your boys.
It's like the quarterback.
They hit the quarterback or somebody's down around the quarterback.
Everyone's around them, dude.
You got to look out for the boys, dude.
That's one thing.
Dude, this is a long bus.
That's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's,
One thing you got a long train.
Yeah, long train.
Oh, sorry.
Fuck, dude.
I am literally CTE right now.
It's bad.
Dude, you got to like, I don't know.
It's just crazy how you guys look out for your own out there.
And like the boys are always looking out for the boys.
What, uh, did you see that video in the finals a couple years ago when P.K.
was just like jabbing Crosby in the head and the back of the name.
What was going on with that?
I don't know.
They were kind of chirping on.
They were chirping at it for a couple times.
There are a couple big name guys too
Because he said something about
I don't know if you guys saw that
About his like
He PKK said something that
Crossby called him out
That he has bad breath
I know if he got shot up
Hey man
Hey man you want a man
What the fuck?
And then they had like
The whole series
They were kind of going at it
Oh shit
No it was opposite
It was Subang getting hit like that
But PK's good
He gets
Like I said he's good at chirping too
Yeah how do you not beat the shit out of that guy
For that dude
You could be fucking
tired man
look at him
holding him in a headlock
yeah I'd be so mad if I was
Sue Ben was he going
that was a tough series to watch
man I was there
for all those games
every game you guys had at home game yeah
well all these final games for sure
because I got those
the I got season tickets and I'm like
two rows behind the bench every once in while we lock eyes
I know yeah we gotta give each other a little nod
we do we move on I remember that picture
you posted about when you're standing
behind Phil and you're standing like this
Oh yeah, just like just staring at Phil
Yeah, dude
He's he good dude
He is yeah
He's awesome
That's all
That was a couple years ago dude
I didn't make it to one game this year
I know I know I'm a bastard
But I should have definitely made it
It's heartbreaking
Will hasn't been to one
Yeah we gotta go to one dude
I love the hockey environment
Do you make it to a lot of Titans games
I try to at least once or twice here
Yeah
Did you this year
No I didn't
I didn't last year either, actually.
Really?
We try to, but it's tough with our schedule because you guys play, what, eight home games?
Yeah.
So sometimes we're on the road or, like, we play Saturday night, but I love watching
you guys play.
It's awesome.
I mean, I want to come to a couple more if you have a chance, for sure.
Dude, you ever need tickets?
You let me know, I got you.
Are you, do you understand the game?
I do.
Yeah.
Did you know more or more before you came over here?
No.
I did not, actually.
Well, we used to watch the Super Bowl in sorts.
then.
Yeah.
It's like a thing to watch a Super Bowl.
What time does it come on there?
Like 3 a.m.
2 a.
Perfect time.
But we would only watch the Super Bowl.
We didn't see any other games.
And then I came over and like I said, I played in Milwaukee.
And that year I played in Milwaukee, Green Bay won the Super Bowl, which is pretty cool.
Yeah.
So, yeah, I started to watch football more and more.
And yeah, I'm pretty, I don't know all the rules, but I would say I'm pretty good.
I didn't know.
Dude, that's awesome.
Yeah.
It's fun to watch.
I love it.
It's what Red Zone on Sundays just all day.
Really?
It's a relatively easy.
game to watch. Like you understand the concept
pretty fast. It doesn't
take very long to learn. Hockey is
definitely tough to pick up
when you're icing, like it takes a while.
Why is the
why is a ref just blowing it dead?
And then there's so many lines involved. I feel like it's
kind of like soccer. But I don't even understand the concept
of soccer at all. But it took me a while
for football. I don't really know soccer. I know I know hockey
decent. But like I wouldn't know how to play.
But football is hard for like
for me to understand like all the plays, a different
and why you run the ball right now or why you're drawing it and that took me a while too like
he's watching somebody he's watching us run it on like third and long we're like you know backed up
or trying to just get better people when the what the fuck are we running do it you have a fantasy team
do you play fantasy yeah yeah i played last year for the first time you guys play with offense
alignment or no no there's no offense alignment in fantasy football did you have anybody from
the titans on your team um no uh have my mom my husband my
order actually yeah yeah yeah get married is have you met him no never met him's an awesome guy
dude i've heard yeah we got like that's the thing i love like that little community has got
we got going on like the preds and the titans i feel like we got a little something i know i agree
yeah it's awesome i was talking to we're talking to buch who was a guest we haven't really
stick yet or maybe we have it this time we're all over the place but um i was talking to him about
doing like a softball game like predators versus titans and then i know like caleb's really
close with you guys.
And so, like, do you like,
Kings of Leon, like,
two on your side,
and then I'm close to Jared.
So, dude, too,
and that's it as captains.
Yeah.
And we do,
like, we'll do like,
a little pitch softball game.
Yeah.
You guys would probably kick her ass,
though.
No, we wouldn't.
Dude, your hand,
eye coordination is crazy.
The Europeans?
No.
We can't play.
We beat the shit out of them.
Yeah.
No, there's no way.
We played.
I think it'd be,
I think it'd be a close game
because,
because football players,
ego everywhere,
dude,
we would try to go yard every time.
No doubt, no doubt.
That is true, too.
We fall over.
But you guys, I've seen, like, dudes take the stick and, like, just bank it in.
But I don't know.
We played a baseball game at Vandy this year in the beginning of the year,
and we played Europe against North America.
Yeah.
We got no chance.
Like, you go to softball?
It was baseball.
It was baseball?
Were you guys pitching?
Yeah.
Well, ripping it.
But, like, not ripping it.
Like, I like, no.
It was more like a home run derby kind of.
Like, the coach was joining to us.
Do you get some kegs there?
I think, dude, that's what we got to do is got to get a couple.
We should do that.
I think it would be awesome.
Yeah.
But what's a good time for you guys?
Probably, well, the thing is guys don't, right?
Well, guys are not in town.
Guys don't get into, like, end of August.
But when you guys are terrible for.
We would never be able to do it.
Yeah.
But if you guys, like.
Do guys hit the road right away right after the season's over?
Yeah.
Like, most guys leave, like, a week after.
What we should do is feel it out.
Like, if you guys are doing really well and we know, like, hey, they got a chance.
then we should do it like around this time.
You know what I'm saying?
Because all the football players are in right now.
Like we're all here.
And you get enough guys to come back,
nine, ten of your guys.
Like we're solid.
It'd be perfect time for us.
It'd be so much fun.
Yeah.
It'd be so much fun.
Because I haven't spent a lot of time with you guys,
but I've been around a couple of you guys
and you guys seem like good dudes.
But hockey's always been a super tight community.
Yeah.
At my house in college,
we were on State Street.
And like,
Yost Arena was right across the streets of the hockey boys
were my next-door neighbors.
And like, it'd be so,
spring like it'd be like may time we all be hanging out and we play poop dollar you were
play poop dollar no oh dude you're missing out dude well what is it dollar you guys never heard a
poop dollar did you never play poop dollar i just dude we would literally so like um well you take a shit
and then you like take a little bit of it out and you put it on a dollar and then you go across the
street and you put it face down and then you and the boys a couple 30 packs just hang out and
wait for people to pick up the dollar
And that's poop dollar
I thought you're gonna tell the hockey story
Well no
That's what I thought
He did there play poop doll
You and the boys
Yeah
So me and the hockey boys
Would just sit there dude
It'd just be like
Literally me and all those guys
And like a couple of the dudes
From the track team
Because I love the track guys
In college
And we just
We'd wait
And we'd like hide under everything
And like some old man
And his like
Granddaughter would be walking by
Just enjoying their Saturday afternoon
And then old man
Would get super greedy
Dude you get greedy
swipe it up
poop all over his hand
you guys just laughing in the back
oh god it's
we'd start yelling at us
he'd start yelling at us
he'd start yelling back at us
dude it was
so much fun
did I play poop dollar here
I've played in Nashville
we just play in Nashville
yeah
hey we should do a bit
like just get the cardboard out
we get the
uh get the film crew out
play poop dollar
what do you think
jes well
I know you definitely
played invisible rope
yeah yeah I played invisible rope
have you played invisible rope
where like a car's coming up
on like a stop sign
and like say me and Taylor out in the middle of the road
and you're like by the stop sign like
hey come on come on come on and me and Taylor act like
we're getting this rope set up and we stand
there and act like we're pulling on each end of the road
and the car comes to a complete stop
well I guess it's not a stop sign just in the middle of the road
yeah it wouldn't be a stop so yeah just be like ongoing
traffic and you act like you're pulling this rope and they all stop
and then we you know you act like you drop oh there's no rope
it's invisible
the guy would just be shaking his fist as you
you damn kids
get the fuck out of there's rope
what's that don't they see that there's no rope
No, but all they see is two people like just pulling super hard.
Yeah, you see it at nighttime.
Yeah, and you're like pulling on each side and they just come to a stop and you drop the robot, got you.
Never played a.
Did you guys have any in Switzerland?
Did you guys have any games like that?
Any games like that?
Any, uh...
Ding dong ditch?
Yeah.
Ding dong ditch, that's it?
What do you call it over there?
What do you really call it?
What do we call it?
Lutti Steif.
Well, Lutti Steif?
That's the one you go.
So, ring the doorbell, takeoff, run.
What do you go?
Lutti stay?
Lutee Stey.
Were you a good kid?
Yeah, I would say so.
I was always kind of like I knew when there was the time to stop.
Like, so my mom always told me like she, like I never got in trouble because I always knew like when to stop.
But I don't know.
You'd be a class clown.
I guess.
Until I was trying to stop being a class clown.
Yeah.
Until I knew I was going to get in trouble.
I was like.
okay I'm gonna stop he's definitely probably a good dude dude Roman's the best
nicest guy in the world that's what I'm saying maybe right didn't get too much trouble
what's up juice I was just gonna ask the difference between uh like the transition from
barry trots to uh you know love love you let yeah and what like how how are they different
coaches um well I don't know trotsie was my first coach he was um I mean he was awesome for me
he's uh I don't if you ever met trotzi no but he
He was like the best guy ever.
Like, he was awesome.
And he was a great coach, too.
He was, I only had him for two years, I think.
And he was awesome.
And, I mean, he wasn't watching.
They won the cop with him.
And he's a great coach.
He's been in the league for so long.
And I think there's a lot of similarities.
I think Lavi's more, he's really intense.
He's great with pregame speeches.
He gets the boys fired up, which is not easy.
be playing 82 games and the coach has to come in there like every day and say something and he's
unbelievable like he he always finds something to to get the boys going and um i mean they're in a lot of
ways they're they're really similar but they're still a little different but um they're they're both
great coaches and um like i said drachi was my first coach and um he helped me get in the league so um
yeah they're both awesome but uh they're definitely a little different what year did you come in the
league that was
2011 so you're part of the lockout
yeah
how was that what was that like
no I had two years two years before the lockout
yeah so you were part you were in the way
no actually no I played one year and then
the lockout happened right what was it like going
to the lockout like what was that what was that
um yeah it was it was I mean I only played one year
and I got to play in Europe after that I played in I played in Switzerland
so you're able to keep going back to my hometown team and
played in Byrne, which was really good for me, but there's a lot of guys who didn't play.
So they just kind of worked out and skated on their own.
And for those guys, it was long.
What was the big reason for the lockout?
I forget, was it getting, like, contracts guaranteed?
No, all our contracts are guaranteed.
It was more at the shares between players and owners.
But your contracts were already guaranteed before the lockout.
I got you.
I got you.
That's always interesting because you guys went into season with that stuff.
Yeah.
Yeah, we missed half of the season.
and then we started in channel and played 48 games.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's interesting, man.
Going through a lockout.
Yeah, did you get paid the same amount?
Did you get paid?
Well, no, I'm saying when you went back.
Oh, no.
No, that's a bummer.
Yeah.
It was, for me, it was tough because I only played one year in the league.
So you just want to, like, you just get into the leagues.
You're going to play, play, play, play.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And then there's a lockout.
But for me, it was good.
I mean, I got to go back home and playing the Swiss League, which was good for me.
But there's a lot of guys who didn't play.
So you can.
So you can.
go and play somewhere else while things are going on yeah that's awesome that's something that
that they're able to do that if the NFL ever did like guys are able to do that well you would you also
wouldn't want to because in the NFL the season's so short and the injury rate is so high true yeah yeah
yeah you're not gonna go get play for pennies on the dollar of what you would get paid for like oh i'm
gonna go play like an af f or whatever or canada league or something like that that's way different
i don't think i don't think football will ever get to that point where they have like a a minor league
hockey or or baseball or anything like that why wouldn't they though it's just because call that's what
college is yeah it's free and it's a billion dollar business that somehow they've the nca has gotten
away with for such a long time like we you're a professional athlete dude and not a professional
i'm sorry you're an amateur athlete and i was getting like 1,200 bucks a month and my rent was like
550 600 bucks you know and so like you're you're playing for nothing and you get you know free meals
like you can't even have cream cheese on a bagel it's a violation
It's just crazy.
And so with that,
and like you're not,
I feel like if you were allowed to go right from high school to the NFL,
then there would be an opportunity for like a minor league.
But if you already,
everyone's already going to college,
then like we've got it.
You know what I'm saying?
And you only have so much mileage on the tires anyway in the football career.
Like you get banged up a lot easier sooner,
faster.
If you're playing amateur right out of,
say you've got a fifth year senior,
it goes to an amateur league and plays like three years.
Then he's like, what, 26 years old trying to be.
to be trying to make the minimum.
Trying to be a rookie.
Yeah, trying to be a rookie, dude.
I'm 27.
Like, I got in the league last year.
Yeah, and then you have, the average career anyways, only like three and a half
years is the average career in the NFL.
So it's like...
I feel like that's just a lot of guys who play and then they can't play.
Like, they're really talented, but all of a sudden they don't play football anymore
because there's no league for them, right?
We're talking about after three and a half years?
Like, let's say they're playing college and they don't make it the NFL.
And then what do you do?
like you have to quit pretty much right yeah well you can go different paths like there are leagues
like the cfl the canadian football league yeah you can go to there's an arena football league like
yeah the xFL has been a thing and not been a thing about 40 times they've always been trying these
leagues they try a bunch of leagues for guys to get opportunities there was a spring league this
past year it was like four weeks long and you would have thought it it was going to potentially
be something yeah and it just tanked spring league be would probably be the best bet yeah
like something that's honestly like that
Oh, yeah, go ahead.
Will.
Are you, uh, do you need that?
Sorry, let me.
Is that another phone call?
It's my, it's, uh, the red,
Redskins strength coach.
Oh, is it?
It's my boy.
He's just calling.
So weird flex.
Okay.
Who's I going to say?
Oh, it's Chad.
Who's Chad?
It's a really weird thing to say, dude.
All right.
Who's Chad?
Red skin strength coach.
Weird flex.
What the fuck?
So I got a question if, if, if you're done, Taylor.
Go ahead, Zach.
So I want to ask about, like, traveling.
I mean, you're playing 82 games a season, but more, I want to look at the
2016 Stanley Cup playoffs.
Round one, you're playing Anaheim.
That game goes to seven games.
Well, the last four games of that series,
you're going back and forth from Nashville to Anahom,
Nashville to Anaheim.
Traveling-wise, is that pretty, like, tough on you?
Because, I mean, they're in a different time zone than us,
two different time zones.
So I think Puck was dropping here at like 9 or 11 o'clock at night,
then you all would have to come back after games and then play a day after next.
Yeah.
That was tough.
You're right.
I mean, we, like, it's a four-hour flight every day.
And so we pretty much, we played two games there.
I think we won the first two, lost two at home.
And then you play, like, you play every other day.
Every other day.
So you play at home, you go to bed pretty late because I don't know how you guys,
I can't sleep after games.
Well, you guys play earlier.
Which is nice.
Well, it can kind of be the same sometimes depending on banged up.
We play at seven, so I can't sleep after games.
So you go to bed late.
Get up, travel four hours to Anaheim, play the next day.
fly back again, four hours again.
And then the second round we played San Jose.
And they only played five games the first round.
Yeah.
And I remember we played game seven in Anaheim.
In Anahe.
And the islands were only playing their second round match.
So we were like the last first round matchup to finish.
So two days later we played in San Jose.
We didn't even go home after the Anam series.
Really?
Played in San Jose and then went another seven games.
And that was hard.
I mean, it's just, I feel like traveling is just, it's hard.
on your body like yeah dude it is on your body all that inflammation shit being up in the being up in a
plane how how important or how serious is like the performance side recovery side for like you guys
individually or how much of a priority does the team make that like when you guys have a quick
turn around like are they in your face and in your ear about doing the right things to yeah yeah
yeah it's it's for us it's all about recovery like that's what i said like we don't practice
much anymore right like even the coach like it's all about the games yeah like you can practice
once in a while but it's it's pretty easy like the the days we don't play
play is pretty much just to recover and work on some system stuff. But on that, it's especially
driving like that. It's huge. Like getting a lot of water in you, getting a lot of sleep and all that
stuff. And I mean, it's probably the most important part in the playoffs for sure.
Is your guys, do you get your recovery through a lot of stuff at the facility or do you source a lot?
Do guys like kind of source people around Nashville or in cities they go to?
Both, yeah. We get it through the facility, but a lot of guys have their own people for massages or
treatment and but um yeah it's a little bit both i mean you know bobo do you use bobo no you don't no
you're your fiance i yeah yeah i used i used him one time but it's a it's a it's a preference
yeah i mean getting stuck all the time's tough yeah i love the iv stuff i i like that stuff
i got like treadmarks you're like a heroin addict you guys you guys you take when you talk
about not sleeping that you take a lot of like uh pre-work out and some up
before the game.
Yeah.
Caffeine.
The boy's all about that.
Yeah.
Hey, who's got the pre-workout?
Do you guys take that or no?
Yeah, I take some pre-workout for sure.
Do you guys drink coffee before games or no?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
That's what we would do.
We hit Starbucks on the way to the stadium.
If we played at noon, we'd go like, what, 7.30 in the morning?
Yeah.
We'd go to the facility.
Oh, 7.30 already?
Yeah.
We go cold tub, hot tub, cold up, hot tub, like contrast for probably 45 minutes.
Yeah.
Roll out a little bit and then stop at the Starbucks.
get myself in ice latte with almond milk.
There we go.
No sugar.
And just bang some music on our way to the facility.
Get her going a little bit.
Taylor got me on that stuff because with the Redskins,
our games are in D.C.,
but we would,
where we lived in our practice facility,
it was like an hour away.
So I never,
we never had access like that.
We'd just be in the hotel before I game,
even on home games.
So Taylor got me on the bit of going in the facility
like hours before,
and it's a lovely, dude,
playing for a team that's in town.
What time do you guys have to be there?
It's usually,
You have to do it
Two hours before a game starts
So if it's at noon
You ought to be in the stadium at 10
Yeah checked in
Ready to roll
Out of your clothes and shit
Like changed and all that type of stuff
We have like a little team meeting
And then you kind of go about your business
Like I'll go on the field for a little bit
Can I do a couple of things
Make sure I feel good
Go up
And I don't usually get Ivy
I get Ivy the night before
Yeah
With Bobo
Because you're just dude
I can't like
I can't imagine doing 86 games
And like just skating all that
Wear and tear in the legs
But
I mean it's all
But you get to a certain point in the season.
It's just like, at week eight, you're just like, all right, get myself to the next game.
Make sure you feel good at the next game.
Survive in advance.
Survive and it's almost when you don't play for a couple days, you get tired because you like get in the rhythm of playing every other day and you just keep playing.
That's what like people like buy weeks, I'm not like, like, I don't know how I would actually feel about it.
But if there was no by week, it almost be easier for me.
Because I could just, I could just transition and like just, because eventually like you take enough hits, your legs get sore enough.
like it just kind of gets stagnant.
It's like plateaus and you're solid.
But I don't know.
I mean, people might kill me
for not wanting to buy a week.
Yeah.
We just got a bye week like three years ago.
Yeah.
Well,
you get the All-Star break too, right?
I know, but they started to have a buy week now.
So you get either like three days off
after the YALSA game or before.
So it's like,
your guys is buy weeks a three-day off thing.
Yeah, it's like three or four days, yeah.
That's crazy.
Yeah, that's so much.
Go ahead what you're saying?
It's like with the awesome game,
it's like a week.
pretty much.
Yeah.
But guys love it.
It's like a little break and kind of breaks up the season a little bit.
Do the boys go out when you guys go to Vegas?
After game we did.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, do Vegas steal a soul, dude?
What hotel do you guys stay in?
Bellatio.
Oh.
Yeah.
Yeah, Will, do you know where the Bellagio is?
The Bellagio?
Yeah.
Oh.
But we're back.
Yeah, I know where it is.
Dude, I feel like, because like the Raiders are going to the Vegas.
Dude.
people are going to lose some paychecks
things are going to go dead
Vegas is a tough state it's a place
that will steal your soul
I'll spend three days there
I'll be like dude
get me the fuck out of Vegas dude
unless you're winning
dude well I mean
yeah but like sometimes you're just so hungover
you're like I just gotta
I gotta go home
when you guys get there
my whole entire life
do you guys get there the night before the game
well we don't they haven't moved yet
but you will get there the night before game
yeah and
There would be no way.
Guys would be able to.
Well, you get there at like 4 o'clock.
You can go out for a couple hours and go gamble if you want.
But you know, like, the coaches, everybody would be pretty, you know.
They'd probably be a little more strict.
A little more strict for sure.
But, like, living there.
Like, outside the strip, there's not a lot, like, in Vegas.
And, like, really is nothing.
Yeah, but James Neal played there last year, and he said it was awesome.
He loves it.
Like, there's so many nice neighborhoods.
And, like, he lived right on the golf course.
He said it was pretty nice, actually.
Yeah.
You play a lot of golf?
That's awesome.
I'm starting to, yeah.
Yeah.
I started like two years ago, so I'm now.
I'm terrible, but I'm getting lessons right now.
It's fun, though, man, just get out.
It's awesome.
Get some beers, cigars, play some music.
Yeah.
Not take it too serious.
I know, but it's hard not to take it serious.
Yeah, it is.
You're bad at it.
Yeah.
Where do you guys play?
No, I don't golf.
I haven't played here.
I would play when I was on the skins all the time, like in the offseason around this time.
Yeah.
But, I mean, I'm not that good.
I got my own clubs and stuff.
and you'll hit shots that keep you coming back.
Yeah. But I'm not like some scratch golf or anything like that.
No, I'm terrible.
It's fun, though. I enjoy it. I like the camaraderie around the boys.
Yeah. And it's nice being outside for five or six hours and just...
For sure. Just golf.
You got to get you into golf.
I see, I don't know, dude. I have this weird thing.
You'd come with us.
I just remember, like, I grew up poor, and now I'm watching and I watch all those assholes, part of country clubs.
I'm like, I don't want to be a part of that.
Dude, I was at a country club a couple years ago.
And the guy's like, and the guy's like, oh, you should be a member.
And I was like, can I dress like this?
And I was wearing like a T-shirt in Jim shorts.
He goes, you got to wear a collared shirt.
You got to wear khakis.
I'm like, get me out of here, dude.
I don't want to be a part of it.
Golf.
I had this stupid joke that like golf.
I grew up.
Yeah.
Don't want to be in a country club.
I don't want to be in country club.
I'll be a sellout if I ever join a country club.
Yeah.
Don't even want to live on a golf course.
That'd be nice, though.
I mean, you're going to live on the competition.
What's that?
I would love to live on a golf course.
Would you?
Yeah.
I think it'd be nice too.
What are you going to live after you're done playing?
Because your wife, she's a stady.
Yeah.
Looks like Nashville.
No way.
Yeah.
How do you feel?
How's your family feel about that?
My mom isn't too happy about it.
Yeah.
But no.
She should just come over.
I know.
Bring the squad over.
They love it here.
Like my family loves it here.
But, yeah.
Like, I mean, we met here.
And she loves Nashville.
I love Nashville.
So we'll see.
Have you seen a lot of spots besides Milwaukee and Nashville?
Besides what?
Besides Milwaukee.
Or on the U.S.
In Nashville?
Yeah.
Like you spent time.
I'm not just like flown for games.
Yeah.
Not really.
There's a lot of places out there, man.
I mean.
You're trying to get them out of way.
Yeah.
Yeah, where are you trying to get?
You're diving into.
There's some spots out there, man.
Like you like golf, Arizona.
Yeah.
Arizona's got great golf.
And then California.
I love California.
Yeah.
I mean, your, your wedding was that?
Big sir.
Where are you going to live?
Way better in a country club.
Dude, I don't know.
That's a good question.
Because I don't know what it is about this city, but for some reason they love me.
And I love them back.
And I think it's a great city.
I'm building a house.
But, I mean, I'm from Arizona.
I was born in California, all West Coast.
And then my wife's from British Columbia, Canada.
She's West Coast.
And so I feel more naturally drawn to that part of the country.
Like I said, natural people were so nice.
Like you come here.
and everybody's so nice to you
and like everybody's so open
and they help you out and it's
I mean it's been awesome honestly
that's awesome yeah I would agree with that
being in D.C. and shit like that
everybody's all about going from A to B and
not like asshole
but there's just people prioritize
like it's all like business
out there dude yeah
dude Nashville I don't think anybody has a job
like dude it's Tuesday and I'm like
drive past the Mumbrian
and it's tin roof is packed
Yeah.
You know what I'm saying?
Losers is bad.
I'm like, yo, you have to go to work.
Yeah.
Like, what's going on?
Nashville's so unique, dude.
I love it.
Yeah, I like Nashville a lot too.
But about that, about that skate, dude, I'm down to go skate.
Let's do it.
You're in.
I'm 100% now.
Are you guys working out right now?
Yeah, we're done on Thursday.
Okay, so.
And I'm here.
All we do, it's just like, yeah, there are football is done on Thursday, but like, all
we do in the summer is just work out.
So we have, like, a lot of the day free.
Okay, well, come on.
Are you good at ice skating?
Dude, I used to skate quite frequently.
Well, I just know I'm going to be out there.
I had my first date on skates.
Really?
Like, I know I'm not going to be that solid.
So I'm just trying to gauge how solid you're going to be.
I'm going to be trash.
It's not like riding a bike, dude.
If you don't stay on it, you're going to be.
No, come on out.
Come on skate next week.
It's just me and Watson out there.
Dude, I'm going to come skate.
You got to get me a stick, though.
Yeah.
All right.
What are you, righty?
All right.
I'm right.
I want a bucket, too, to get me a good bucket.
Your CCM?
Yeah.
All right.
I'm a jofa guy, but all right, I'll do CC.
I want to do it like BK.
Do one of those old jofas.
Old jofas, dude.
I might cut it into it, mullet, dude.
I want to line up 40 sticks and just pick out the right one.
Yeah, you and P.K.
Out there.
All right, we're done skating.
Hey, cop, just, just pick a stick, cop, like you don't play.
Checking out the bend and the stick.
Oh, God.
I thought that this was not good.
Yeah, this one's a little too stiff.
Dude, I'm down to get out there.
Yeah.
Awesome, we done to do it?
Yeah, of course.
All right.
Deal.
Have you skated?
I've skated before, but like, it's like one of those deals.
It's one of those deals where it's like it'd be a field trip one time a year in Missouri.
You know what I mean?
So not that much.
Like, if Taylor and I are doing a face, I was going to be like stop moving forward.
Like, I don't know what the fuck you guys want me to do.
Like just stay still.
Fuck, man.
Dude, I'd have to take my ankles.
I would have to tape my ankles.
Really?
Like a scrub.
Yeah, dude, I'd be ankle bending on the ass.
I mean, hell, I don't know.
I'll do whatever it takes, man.
I got these flat flippers, dude.
I got some flat feet.
Do you have skates?
we would have, you probably, what's your feet size?
Is it like 14 or 15?
I'm 12.
You got 12?
Yeah, probably.
Oh, no.
I'm out now.
Give me some figure skates, dude.

Nobody sees it.
The most inspirational sports movie of all time.
Sean William Scott, have you seen American Pie?

This guy named Xavier LaFlemme.

Ray, who's an enforcer,
knocks him out like his second game in the league.
This guy right here.
Just start watching.
Boom!
See you, nerd.
That's how he knows.
That I should be a hockey player?
Look at him.
It's coming out there.
Guys are talking shit to him.
Look at him.
He just beats the shit out of the whole hockey team.
He starts doing the skit, skate at him or the stick.
So he learns how to skate or whatever.
Gets the number of 69.
it's hilarious.
Their words, not mine.
He's got the elbow pads outside the jersey.
And then he becomes a pro hockey?
No, this is below.
He's the Halifax Highlanders, dude.
East Coast Canada.
So you've seen this movie like 60 times?
Dude, I've seen this movie so many times.
It's got two rules, man.
Don't touch my perkinsets.
And do you have any fucking perkinsets?
You got a couple of European dudes.
They're always just talking about banging his mom.

Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We get to ask other people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it, but, you know, tired and sick.

Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite.
on Humor Me with Robert Smygel and Friends,
me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
