Hosted by Will Compton–NFL Vet, creator of Bussin' With the Boys, and proud dad of two. This show isn’t about expert advice and how fatherhood is the greatest thing on earth—it’s about embracing the love and suck of parenthood every day. From balancing work and family to battling the mental load, fears, and the moments that wreck you in the best way, we dive into it all with honesty, vulnerability, and a sense of humor. Cause at the end of the day... us dads have no idea what we're doing. Alongside Will is his producer Sherman Young, a recently new father who’s currently deep in the trenches of Fatherhood and loving every minute of it. Together, they’ll break down everything that can go right and wrong (...usually wrong) when you bring tiny humans into this world. Expect funny parenting stories, laughs, call-ins, advice, weekly themes, and the kind of conversations you’d have over a cold beer in the garage. Whether you’re raising teens or still Googling “how to install a car seat”, For the Dads is the ultimate podcast for dads who are in it, about to be in it, or just trying to do their best while screwing it up along the way. ----- FOLLOW THE BOYS Instagram: / Forthedadspod Twitter: / Forthedadspod Facebook: / Forthedadspod TikTok: / Forthedadspod LISTEN iTunes: http://bit.ly/BWTB_Apple Spotify: http://bit.ly/BWTB_Spotify ----- Drink Olipop : Buy any 2 cans of Olipop in store, and we'll pay you back for one. last week. A lot of dog talk. And we, we set it to at the top. We were entering kind of a phase
where it's like there's going to be a couple extremes coming after. Either coming after it's,
there's a lot of people who fully understand what's going on. But we knew we were going to get a taste
of the A Gap.
We're going to dive in all that.
Hope the trash is taken out.
Welcome to another episode of Four, the Dad's Papa Team 6.

This is just a couple dads talking shop,
our highs and lows, our wins and losses,
the suck, the love, everything in between.
We are happier here.
If you are watching, what keeps this show,
operating is obviously you guys leaving comments, engaging, helping continue to grow this community.

And again, we shout out comments, comments, comments.
We also do voicemails where you can call in, I believe we have four today, but you can call
into the hotline 601, the dads, you can vent, you can drop a dad hack, a win, a loss, a story,
or you can just simply say, I forgot to take out the fucking trash and my wife is on my ass right now.
Send us a picture of you and your front yard.
Put on your best dad outfit and just go stand in the yard, give it a thumbs up, and just send a picture
yourself to 601 the dads at gmail.com.
Yeah, if you're on international soil, you can ride.
write in an email. There's a lot of ways to get featured on the show. We love featuring you,
all of you on the show. We got a special guest in house with us today. His name is Jack Coleman.
Jack Coleman, Jackie, you are, I would label you. You are SD6, right? Seaman Team Sixers. Yes,
absolutely. Every day. Just for the love of the game, every day. He says every day. But it's very
rare that you get a story where a Seaman Team Sixer gets a front row seat.
to a dad loss, an actual marriage, husband, and wife exchange, and they're kind of caught in the middle.
Oh, yeah.
Of said dad loss with Sherman Young.
We're going to dive into that story, a dad loss we have at the top of the show involving Shirm, involving Jack.
We just hired Jack not too long ago.
He joined Bustin with the boys.
How long you've been with us now?
Just a week, not a full week last week.
That's crazy.
But I'm here, ready to go, ready to rip.
That's what we're doing.
We got a big giveaway stream coming Sunday.
Our first stream for ripping with the boys.
And on ripping with the boys, we, in our busing universe,
the same way you see the for the dad's format,
the for the dad's vertical.
We are standing up another vertical ripping with the boys.
It's one of Taylor's brainchilds.
He is ripping cards and giving away to fans and being engaged with his kids
and doing the whole Pokemon hunt.
I know he's hunting to chew.
He's ripping NFL cards.
But he has an obsession in this laid to which we are standing up this vertical
ripping with the boys. Jack being hired number one, a former producer, somebody that lives,
eat, sleeps, breeze the card world, and he will be helping stand this thing up as well.
So continue on with the stream going on.
So, you know, Taylor's been ripping for a while now. You want to really upgrade this brand
and bring it to this new, you know, avenue and venue and build up the community and give, you know,
some of these high cost products, you know, out to the people. Maybe they can't afford it
and he wants to give back to the fans. So what we're doing Sunday is our first.
debut stream, ripping with the boys YouTube, that's ripping WTB across socials, where we're
ending the chase for the chew. We're finding this little wrap. Come on, man. We are finding it.
So we're going to be ripping about 500 plus packs that night. And for every single side
duck, he pulls out. It's one of his bits he does on stream. We're doing a courtyard
Ghibie. We're running Ghibis the entire time. It's going to be a ton of fun. We don't know how long
we're going to be ripping for. It's going to be days. I might not leave the shop for days.
but I'm ready.
I'm here for it.
It's going to be a ton of fun.
It's hard to imagine that there aren't parents out there right now
that are in the Pokemon world,
whether it's with their kids or their ripping cards.
So if you have the opportunity,
if you're in the world, again, ripping with the boys,
it's ripping packs and it's giving it away.
The side duck thing that'll happen
anytime they pull a side duck,
there'll be a giveaway happening,
even 24 hours leading up to the stream.
Every hour on the hour,
a giveaway is happening on the ripping WTB.
channel. So again, follow those on all platforms. And guys, these giveaways, I mean, I'm not going to
like oversell it to where, you know, I'm speaking out of turn. But these are some dope
giveaways. These are big prizes. Yeah. Is it like a little keychain or a sticker from
Bustin with the boys? Like some of these cards, some of these slabs that you can get are like
high price stuff, dude. It's crazy. And we'll be getting to dip our toe in that world. I know we're
partnering with Courtyard I.O., which is a big giveaway platform, or a big platform where you can,
can you explain Courtyardio? Basically, on Courtyard, you're able to purchase a digital packer rip,
and on there, you'll be able to kind of sweat your card, open it, and you'll be able, you know,
within different price ranges, find a card pack that works best for you in your range. So it's pretty
cool. You can then add it to your vault, basically, or ship it to you, and it becomes a physical
thing as well. Or you can have for a gift, whether it's Christmas, whatever.
coming up a birthday.
And one of your kiddos's been won something.
Yeah, a bus and pack is on the site.
But I think there's a lot of intersection between, you know, this brand and that brand
because in the comments, you know, you see a lot of people saying,
I'm just getting back into cards because my kids are doing it.
Or like my dad passed down a big box of cards.
I know even around the office here, like there's guys that are sharing some of the
stories that they're telling with their dads.
So it's a great way to kind of build up the community that way as well.
Absolutely.
And what's cool is since Courtyard
coming in to partner with all the Bustin with the boys.
The nucleus of it is happening on Rippin'WTB,
ripping with the boys.
But we're going to get to do giveaways with Bustin with the boys,
with our sports betting shows,
the locker room, NFL and college football.
On For the Dads, you might get to see one of our faces.
Chef is a Seaman Team Sixer.
I know he's in the Cars world.
You got Deke, you got Sherman myself,
to where we could be going live,
like on our For the Dad's channels to give stuff away.
So a big partnership with Courriard I.O.,
which is massive for the entire brand.
The nucleus are ripping with the boys is happening.
And also leading into our story, Jack Coleman, Seaman Team Sixer, was part of a dad loss with our wonderful Sherman Young.
Over the weekend?
Friday.
Right before the weekend.
The precipice of the weekend.
We had a time.
We had a time, dude.
So to paint the picture, I just moved down here from New Jersey.
I'm from New Jersey, Jersey Shore.
And I have an empty apartment right now.
Like I have a couple things here and there, just kind of making it buy.
You know, maybe this weekend I'll go out full-fled shopping.
But I needed a couch.
So nice man, sure.
here, he goes, hey, my buddies are trying to get rid of a couch. You know, I'll help you pick it up
from them, bring it to your place. Just great guy stuff. Great move. A hundred bucks flat. I'm like,
done. Easy. Like we could throw on a table two extra 50. I'm like, done. So we hit the road.
Now, Sherman has this all planned out where at the end of this whole stretch, he needs to pick up his
daughter. And did I say that at the very beginning. Yes, you did. I'm good to help. Just got to pick up
My daughter.
Got to do this.
Priority.
Priorities.
What time do you get to pick up Scarlett?
I need to be leaving this office before 5 p.m. at the latest.
At the latest.
At the latest.
At the latest.
At the latest.
Yes, sir.
Right.
So we head out.
He brings one part of it back around 3 o'clock.
We head to my place, drop it off.
As we're dropping off, quick side note, this guy was great.
Oh.
This guy ruled.
His neighbor's awesome, dude.
We see this big dude, you know, kind of walking down the hall.
he's got a big bag of golf gloves with him, just had himself a day.
He sees that we're bringing a big couch out of the truck.
And from down the hall, he goes, hey, y'all need a little pulley.
And we're like, what?
He's like, when I brought my couch in, we, we, I have a pulley.
You use it.
Well, and he was a Texas boy too.
I forgot about that.
Because he goes, hey, which one of y'all from Texas?
And I was like, oh, me, because I still have Texas tags on my car.
Nice old Texas boy.
We don't even have to lift a finger really getting this thing in there.
It was an all time move by that guy.
Shout out that guy.
Shout out that guy.
It was Brad.
That's kind of a cool one.
So we get this done.
We get back in the car.
We're coming or we're going to get the second portion of everything from his friend's place.
Phone rings.
What time?
What time we at?
We're probably at four.
Four.
Four.
Almost four on the dot.
Okay.
Okay.
Four o'clock.
I'd say from this point, it would take about 30 minutes to go pick up, bring it back.
I wasn't too worried.
Jill's on the line.
Hey, so I'm getting ready to head out to work.
Is this speaker?
You guys are Bluetooth to the car, so you're in.
I'm in.
She know you're in.
She instantly is like, new hire, Coleman's here with me.
Okay.
Spirits are high too.
Yeah.
Like I think she's calling like, hey, how's it going?
But it's always a great hedge if say you hear the tone and you're like,
Coleman's in the car hedging against.
If you're coming to meet me in the A gap right now, just know somebody.
that you haven't met yet. It's sitting in the car with me.
And that's a dad hack because honestly, if I
hadn't had done that, it could have gotten messy.
Yeah. And it could have gotten messy.
Heady play. And it quickly
turned. The vibe quickly switched.
Right. So I'm like, hey, like, so nice to meet
you all bubbly. Like, we're having a grand old time.
We're sipping, we're could sip
some, some olipops too.
You know, in the car.
We're having a good time.
Knocking them back. And you can
hear like, well, Sherman,
you know, you said that we were
going to pick you were going to pick her up i'm busy today and there's that edge that's like on the
precipice of breaking through and i'm just in there my face starts getting red and i'm like oh man she's
like sherman like we talked about this and it's getting more and more we're guessing she's like
it's nothing against jack like and i'm like what i do now at that moment i flip the script
real quick on him and i go yeah i fully agree with you i fully agree with you you shouldn't be doing
and I'm in my driver's going
keep doing that
but in your mind like again
we still have an hour cushion before you have to leave
5 o'clock the latest right
absolutely okay so we're good
we're smooth sailing but there's Friday
traffic will there's Friday traffic will
you're gonna be all the way across town
Sherman so you're you're kind of defending
like okay yeah you're totally aware
I'm gonna be able to leave the shot by five it's gonna be all good
and then she lumps in she starts running the
football with traffic.
And I have, I have a, let's say a metaphorical army behind me.
And I'm doing this going, hey, hey, we don't need to fight.
We don't need to fight right now.
We don't need to defend ourselves even, okay, in this moment.
Let the wifie speak.
Let her speak her mind.
At length, I just sat back and stayed quiet.
Just let her get it all out.
Let her get it all out.
Honey, I love you.
like I'm so sorry
I should have thought this through better
it's like it's okay Sherman
like like we'll talk
not even it's okay
so we'll talk later
boom
so she doesn't say it's okay
she just says you said I'm so sorry
I love you
she said I love you too
we'll talk later
something along those lines right yeah
she didn't even say I love you too
I don't know I don't remember
I don't remember I don't remember
now that I think back
I don't think there was one
I mean it was a truly like a
do do do at the end of it and just like a good three
Mississippi before you guys
I thought I was in trouble too
it felt like a spend the night party
where like you stay up way too late at your boys house
and you are kind of being loud and their mom comes in
it just strips your friend down
yeah like the father is work in the morning I'm not mad at you boys
you're all sweet boys but my son should die
and I will kill him but y'all are fine
You're good boys.
It felt like that.
We get the hang up and it's like you said, a good pause.
And at the same time, we're both like, I think the math is working out still.
I think we got this still.
Yeah.
Sure enough, you saved the day.
Everything worked out, right?
Like, we were able to pick up everything, drop it off.
And I believe you got there.
You left here at five like you said you would.
I left here at five.
Like I said, I would.
The math math.
Jill basically left it at a prove me wrong type of scenario.
She went ahead and picked up Scarlett,
but I took a little screenshot of when I was parallel with Scarlett's daycare,
called Jill to let her know that I was parallel with Scarlet's daycare at the time that I said I was going to,
before the time that I said I was going to be able to pick Scarlet up.
Can I get a quick 30?
Please.
So the math mathed.
Yeah.
She got off the phone doubting you.
Yeah.
But not doubting you and challenging you, doubting you and saying I'm going to take over.
She picked up Scarlett.
She picked up Scarlett.
And we're getting texts along the way too.
It's not just phone call ends.
It's like we're getting text updates to coming through.
And I think one you quoted was, I'm a tea kettle ready to boil over.
At that moment, I was just like, yo, you're on your own here, brother.
The Geel text and said, I'm a tea kettle ready to boil over.
Yeah, dude.
because we had just had a conversation about letting our yeses be yeses and our nose be nose.
Okay.
And when we say we're going to show up, where we're going to do it and when we're going to do it needs to be where and when we're going to show up.
And we had that conversation maybe two days prior to this.
It wasn't like a serious hash-em-up conversation, but it was a conversation where Jill was saying, like, it is important to me that when you say you're going to do something and,
at what time, that you do it at that time.
That shows me that I'm a priority of yours.
That shows me that you are actively taking measures to put your families first in situations
and not putting other things before family.
She made valid points.
Let's not deny that.
I said after, I'm on both, I see both sides here, you know, but the math is still math.
Right.
Right.
Like, his guys sitting there knowing like, this is still going to work out.
I think, you know, let's not get too overreactive about it.
Like, we're still going to bring it home.
So you get off the phone as she's texting you.
Does she let you know she's taken over?
She's taking over the plane.
Oh, yeah. She pulled us on the phone that she was picking up Scarlett.
Right.
And again, I have the army back here.
I'm going like this.
She kind of has a warhammer like this, but she's not bringing it down on me either.
Like, you could feel the tension on the phone, but there was no, there was no clashing.
Right.
It was like a prove me wrong.
prove me wrong.
But she wasn't letting you prove it wrong.
She took over.
She did take over.
You see when the hammer's up in the air,
in my opinion,
she kind of swung the hammer.
Yeah.
And I'm just eating these gummies
to get a little bit more clarity on the situation.
He's over here with the eating popcorn.
Just watching the show go down.
So a question for you.
Yeah.
You know she's taking over.
You still decide I'm going to prove her wrong by,
going and getting parallel letting her know
like you're still at the daycare.
It's on my way home regardless.
I got to drive by the daycare anyways.
But it's almost like a,
hey,
I just want to let you know.
I was led my yes be yes and my no be no
and I was going to make it there on time.
Like I was going to get there.
And kind of like a,
in kind of like a,
hey, I told you.
I mean, she literally asked for,
like, let me know when you are,
parallel with the daycare.
Like, I want to see if you would have gotten there on time.
Now, are you writing home with him?
No, no, no, no.
At this point, he's driving me off.
I'm so, I'm good.
I'm still a little red in the face, though, you know?
Like, I felt like I was in, like,
the principal's office for a little bit.
Yeah, like, you're in the spot to where I'm going to let an hour or two go by
and I'm going to hit him up and check on my boy.
He's everything.
I'm looking for that right now.
He hit me up.
We had some great tax actor.
While you looked it up, how was it when you got home?
It was actually really good.
We had a great conversation on the,
right home and she said because this and I will on myself self grading APR I should have communicated self-scout
I should have communicated everything to Jill earlier in the day I've been radio silent so then all
of a sudden at four o'clock she sees in this group text with our couple friends hey Hillary we're going to
come by and come grab the couch will be at your house by around like 420 and Jill's like whoa I thought he was
picking up our daughter.
If I communicated earlier in the day
with her, it would have been a way
different situation where I could have
talked this out with her instead of
you know,
she reads this text and she calls
me, Coleman's in the car,
we're already on the way. There's no
like, we can't cancel the couch pickup.
Couch pickup's happening.
Yeah. You have to pick Scarlet up by what,
5.30? 6.
By 6 o'clock? Yeah.
You, you
handled that better than I would have on the phone.
I would have said, hey, sweetheart, it's 4 o'clock.
Like, I got to pick her up by 6.
I told you I'm picking her up by 6.
Watch dad work.
Yeah.
Like, I'm going to pick her up by 6.
Yeah.
Well, there is the time frame of Jill wanting,
she doesn't want Scarlett picked up by 6,
which I get that as well.
She doesn't want her daughter being the last kid at daycare.
She wants me to get there, you know, a little after 5.
get Scarlett to the house,
let her decompressed, so she's not...
Right, but if you're still hitting that
in your world of...
I am. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm with you. I'm out and about right now,
but we have all this mathed out.
Yes.
I need you to tone it down.
Because I'm still going to leave the shot by five,
like I said, and I'm still going to pick up Scarscar.
No, don't you go pick up Scarscar.
I'm picking up Scarscar.
If you pick up Scarscar, yeah,
I'll pull the move wrong.
Then I'm at.
I'm in the parking.
and I'm letting you know, I just like I said, I would have picked up Scar Scar, Scar.
And Coleman, I'm a good dad.
I'm a good dad.
I just want you to know.
I would have a fucking old.
Baby seat kettle cooled down.
Are you a glass of still water now?
Because I told you I would have had it.
You know, it's funny when I walked into the back door I was expecting here.
That's the problem.
You don't trust me, honey.
Yeah?
Didn't we just have a combo a couple days ago, let our yeses be yeses and nose be nose?
I told you I was going to get SCAR SCAR.
And you chocked my knees from under me.
And what I say in the car about that, the trusting thing.
Do you remember what I said?
No.
Of my self-scout?
I said I've let her down a lot in the past.
You remember?
But this is the moment.
This is the moment where you're proven.
Yes.
Yeah.
A shift is going to happen.
Yeah, a shift was happening.
A shift was happening.
And I did prove myself.
The funny thing, too, is we're saying all this and going back and forth.
over a baby seat.
Like, I'm holding the baby seat.
I forgot about that.
I'm leaning over to talk to him.
Bro.
We couldn't see each other in the car with the way the sofa, like, cramming everything
in, big L couch, like took two trips.
And baby C is literally to where we cannot see each other.
We're just staring straightforward, having this full on breakdown of like,
yeah, Coleman, you know, like, I've done a bad job in the past,
telling Jill that I would be there at a certain time.
and I show up late or I do something else and I forget about blah blah blah.
Coleman's just over here.
Can't see me.
And he's like, oh, yeah, sure.
I get that, man.
Like, this guy I met like four days ago.
It was good.
So I go back, you know, an hour or two passes.
He texts me absolved of all crimes with like a salute emoji.
In quotes, I stand corrected.
I know all caps back out to Allen.
She said, I may even pick the movie tonight.
And I did.
Good leverage, good leverage.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But I feel like she took your helmet.
Yeah, she did.
She did.
I still got some playing time there in the fourth quarter.
Yeah, but it's like you knew what the game plan was.
You trusted your preparation.
You knew the job.
You knew the assignment.
And a teammate walks over like, hey, are you sure you're good?
And you're like, yeah.
Like, I have this all mathed out.
Yeah.
I'm good to go.
I'm ready to go in the game.
And like, ah, you've messed up one too many times in the past.
Give me your helmet.
Like, that's what happened.
Yeah.
You did a better job listening, but you can't let you, you can't let her take your helmet.
I got to like, I can sit there and hear my teammate out, but you can't take my helmet from me.
Hey, give me that helmet back.
Yeah.
I'm picking up Scar, Scar, Scar.
You got to.
I got this.
Like, no, dude, I'm going in the game.
Yeah.
This is what we talked about.
If Coleman's not in the car, I don't let the helmet be taken.
Yeah, I was going to say, you're like, if I'm mapping out, you do a better job of listening.
Yeah.
Then I probably would have.
If he wasn't in the car, I would have been extremely defensive of my situation.
Of like, I am going to get there on time.
I will get our daughter.
Everything's right.
Right, right.
You got a homie who's kind of just, you know, they're new.
They're a week old.
Also, we call
Green.
Yeah, Seaman Team 6 are sitting in the
sitting in the passenger.
You don't want to escalate it from one of your boys
to where it's like, oh shit, like they're getting
after it. Yeah, this is the first
over a pickup.
Yes.
This is the first taste of my wife, too.
Fair.
That I tell Coleman, I go,
if we're playing around the horn, you're getting there.
Yeah.
The beginning of this call is the intro to Joe.
To my wife.
He's over Matt.
He's over Matt.
Jill.
And I have paused.
Not on her behalf.
She didn't need to apologize.
But I'm apologizing.
I'm sorry.
I put you in the situation because I think my wife rocks that a lot of people at the office.
She was cool.
Enjoy her and like her.
And I hate that your first iteration of my wife is her basically being like taking your helmet.
Shirm, you got to be a man of your word, dude.
What are you doing?
That's why I jump shit.
And I'm sitting there.
Yeah.
I sit there.
And I also bro out with them.
I'm like, Coleman, I could be on the back nine of a golf course hammered.
right now. I'm just helping a guy get his sofa. Like, damn, man. There's a world shirm where
you definitely, hindsight 2020, should have gone to daycare asking where a scar was.
Who's my daughter? Who picked her up? What'd she look like? A short blonde? My wife's tall
Burnett! What's going on? What got shit show you running here? I should have. I should
up. Did you guys get a good movie? Yeah, we got a good movie. And we did have. And we did have
a good talk about communication, about planning and scheduling.
Yeah.
And I was able to show her that like, because we've been talking about this on the podcast
a lot lately with me is schedule, schedule, schedule and prioritizing family time
and being at a place on time, being at the right place.
this is something that I have struggled with.
Like I do a poor job of being somewhere on time.
I do a poor job of scheduling stuff where I'm telling Jeremy,
oh shit, I have PTO like in four days.
I totally forgot about that, didn't put it on the calendar.
I've had conversations with you about that, that that's my shortcoming.
So like there is a 1,000% a lesson to be learned that I need to
do a better job of taking control of my life and my schedule
so that it does not affect others around me.
That legit needs to happen.
And Jill is coming from a great place in challenging me
to get better on that.
But in that moment, I was kind of on top of that.
Right.
You ain't got to neuter me in front of my boy.
What's going on?
She's acting like she's always got a collar on me.
Like, wait, wait, we not...
Go.
Lawn, ma'am, ma'am.
We're joking.
Do you see what I deal with?
Do you see this bullshit?
I made a leveraging play last night that didn't really work out for me.
What happened?
Settled, subtle...
I won't even say dad lost, maybe husband lost,
because my,
my dear wife, she came downstairs
and she was like, hey, so what happened at bedtime?
Well, sweetheart, let me tell you what happened at bedtime.
I was on rude duty last night.
And Rue, obviously, she's about to start school up next week.
So it's been summertime.
It's been summer action mode.
We get in the bedroom.
She's changing.
She's doing all the things that she's got to do
to get ready for bed.
She wants me to put on her PJs,
even though she can do it.
She can do it herself.
So I'm giving her a good little,
not like Stern talking to,
But a good lecture of like, hey, when you get all,
who you think puts on dad-d-d-d-d-close?
And she's like, Dad-D-D-D-A?
I was like, yeah.
I was like, who you think takes off that-ass clothes?
She's like, Dad-D-D-D-I.
I was like, yeah, people don't put my clothes on it off.
When you get older, like, people aren't going to be,
we're not going to be there to do everything for you.
So when you are capable of doing something on your own,
I love allowing you to do it.
Number one, you like to do it.
Yeah.
I love you feeling empowered to do it.
I want to grow, I want you to grow,
and you have confidence to know that you can handle yourself on your own.
Yeah.
And PJs is something simple.
As I'm, like, putting her pants on and putting her shirt on, like, I'm just giving
her this kind of talking to why it's good that you put on your own stuff because
mom and dad ain't going to be there one day.
She's just looking at me with her little four-year-old eyes.
She's like, I take care of myself.
I'm like, oh, sweetheart, you don't necessarily take care of yourself.
You think you could.
Well, she's like, well, you know, when I was downstairs playing today, like Abby, I wanted
to kind of play by myself.
and I told Abby and Scotty that I didn't want to be over with me
so I can have some alone time and I played by myself.
I was like I you did a good job kind of communicating what you needed
but you still need supervision like you still need supervision and guidance like
sweetheart you ain't living on your own you think you're living on your own let me go drop you at a hotel
and we can figure out if you can live on your own.
I'm like go uh and she's like dadda can I brush my teeth in the morning that's code for
can we just not brush my teeth tonight dad is sitting there knowing you just you
operate a full day. There's times. And this is right. This is right after the conversation you just had.
With Roe? No, with Roe. Yeah, with Roe. She steps back. We kind of laugh. I'm kind of, you know,
buttoning up the whole taking care of yourself. Like you can do your PJs on your own. This is a simple
task that you can do. She's like, Daddy, can I brush my teeth in the morning? That's code for like
me and Rue. I know my wife's listening right now, but that's kind of code with us is like,
we don't have to brush your teeth tonight. We can get in bed and do story time and everything else.
I negotiate with Rue
because I'm sitting there, Rue's a talker.
Rue loves a talk.
We read a book, can we talk about the book?
Yes.
I tell a story.
Daddy, can we talk about the story?
And then she just pounds you.
She runs the football with questions of why this, why that.
I brought up Shadowland last night.
She had to break down Shadowland.
And then she was scared about Shadowland when I was leaving
because she's like, there's a lot of shadows in my room right now.
Damn, sweetheart.
That's imagination world.
And so I negotiate when she says,
Daddy, can I brush my teeth in the morning?
And I'm thinking, yeah, if I can skip a little something, it's summertime.
Like, we brush your teeth.
You've been to the dentist.
You've checked out clean.
You're batting a thousand right now with your teeth.
Like, can you miss a night of brushing your teeth?
In my brain, I'm thinking, yeah, why not?
It is summertime.
So I use that as leverage.
I'm like, okay, if you brush your teeth in the morning,
then Daddy only has to read you one.
Dad only has to tell you one story tonight.
Because Rue makes me tell her stories.
Yeah.
Where I got to make up stories.
And sometimes we had Dad,
acts like, hey, use AI to do so. I've done those structures. And then it's like, I don't want to
sit there and like, I'm just trying to read the story from my phone. So Rue makes me tell her
story. So I got to come up with stories all the fucking time. She'd be like, Daddad, tell me a story
when you were little and something bad happened. She always wants something bad in there.
But I negotiate, instead of having the bandwidth and creativity to manufacture two stories,
I'm going to use this as instead of me reading a book and then we go to brush your teeth,
And then we lay in bed and I tell you another story.
And then we talk about the story.
I'm nitzing my leverage.
You don't want to brush your teeth.
I get that.
I respect that.
Yeah.
What I'm going to do, hey, you want to not brush your teeth tonight?
You want to do it in the morning?
Dad only reads you one story and we turn the lights off.
So that means we skip.
No talking.
We skip the book.
Yep.
We miss.
We don't do brush your teeth.
And we get right in bed and we get into story action.
And she's like, okay.
so we get in bed and I'm like hey let me brush your ponytail like dude the whole long hair thing
I know we got a comment in here about fleeting time and hair's getting long on the three-year-old
and four-year-old this time I feel like it's slipping away oh yeah but just diving in on the hair
with girls sometimes I don't know what the hell to do like I want to brush her hair we would
brush her hair every night yeah but then I've learned she's got so much hair that no matter what
you got to brush it again in the morning like the shit just tangles all the time 24-7 oh yeah
and you can't let it build up because then bad tangles happen then they fucking
And like, sweetheart, that is not doing it that hard.
Just sit there and let me work this tangle out.
But a big move for parents out there for people is like putting their hair in a braid
or putting their hair in like some type of concoction so that way it doesn't get all tangly
overnight.
Rue had a ponytail rock.
So I was like, so before we crawl in bed, grab the brush or I can brush your hair.
I'm thinking in my head, we've done the braid stuff.
Like, again, I'm not fully in tune with everything that has to be done.
I can't braid hair.
I'm not there yet.
I'm just not there in my development to wrong-braiding hair.
I'm not going to let her go into Scotty's room because Mama's putting Scotty down.
But her hair's in a ponytail, so I'm like, I guess she wants to sleep in her ponytail tonight.
And maybe that's a move to not get half of it tangled.
Yeah.
You're better at being a girl than I am.
Yeah.
Like, I'll let you do you.
Yeah.
So she grabs the brush and I start brushing just her ponytail.
Like I don't take the ponytail out and brush all her hair.
I just brush the ponytail because I'm like, that hair is probably going to be cool because it's up, it's tight.
It's in the ponytail.
So we go to bed.
I just read her a story.
I get done with bedtime before Charo.
Usually Scotty's the easy one.
Scotty's the one you can put down.
You read a few stories.
You put her down.
You're usually out.
Roo's the longer one because she wants to talk the whole time.
But I get out early.
And I kind of leave the bedroom and kind of look down the hall.
And I have a little smirk on my face.
Like, ah, yeah, dad's done for the day.
Charles sitting in there seeing you get out early.
She's going.
Yeah.
Because Charles usually comes in and kiss her good night,
like while I'm in the middle of story time or something.
Yeah.
But now Charles got to be the last one in, which is good for me.
Like, I'm going downstairs.
I'm like, you know, I started Reacher.
So I want to dive in on an episode of Reacher.
I want to see if any of my new flicks are out.
If Ted Lasso's out, if Lucky's out.
I watch Tows of Dragon.
I'm caught up there.
So, like, let me dive in.
I get to kick the feet up.
Let's watch a little bit of Reach.
Might as well.
Sue him.
Get everything ready.
Tidy up downstairs.
Let's get these toys away.
Wife's going to be like, oh, you crush it downstairs, honey.
And I'm like, you just add a gold star to the calendar.
There's the guy I married.
Kick the feet up.
I got Richard playing and all of a sudden I hear crying, crying from Scotty's room.
Charles been in Rue's room for a moment and I'm like Roo's got her.
Like Roo's probably telling her how she's scared of Shadowland and telling her the entire story
that I told her about Shadowland.
I hear Scottie start crying and then I know Charles up in Roo's room.
And I'm thinking there could be a moment where Rue's breaking down, Scottie's bringing
down.
I'm like, fuck and now I got to go up there because I can't just feed Charo to the wolves.
I can't feed my wife to the wolves.
I go up there, give Scotty or passie, give her llama, give her a little kiss good night.
she's good walking to ruse room and i'm like is everything okay and i turned the corner and i see charos
just on her knees and she's got ruse ponytail out and she's just brushing her hair and she's like
what's going on like why wasn't her hairbrush like uh ruse said that ruse said that uh russ said that you guys
you didn't brush your teeth and uh like oh yeah we made a deal
we we negotiated a deal and so i quickly kind of like okay they're doing this it seemed like
they're in a decent mood, so let me just leave the room.
When I'm watching TV, and that's when the first part of the story comes in where
Charles walks down, she's like, hey, so what the hell happened at, what happened at bedtime?
I was like, we made a deal.
Like, she had an, she had, she wanted to not brush her teeth.
I'm thinking, okay, I'm going to leverage that and just tell one story.
Like, she checked out, she checks out at the dentist smooth.
She's clean.
It's summer.
In summertime, man.
And she's like, you are the parent.
Like, you got to, you got to tell her.
that she's brushing her teeth. And I'm like, I know, but sweetheart, I had an interest. Like,
I knew her interest was not wanting to brush her teeth. My interest was getting it down to one
story. And we both accomplished, like, everybody won. Yeah. She just told on me to you that she didn't
brush her teeth. Yeah. She's like, oh, when does she brush her teeth in the morning? Did she
brush her teeth in the morning? I'm like, no, but she told me she's going to brush her teeth in the
morning. She never remembers that she's going to brush her teeth in the morning. She just says that,
so it's like she just doesn't brush your teeth.
she's got it.
I'm like,
the fair points,
fair points,
but we made a good,
solid,
we had a good
solid negotiation,
and that's how those work.
She had something
I identified.
I brought it to her.
We agreed.
We shook hands.
Yeah.
And we executed the negotiation.
The hair thing,
our bruster ponytail,
I didn't know if you
wanted me to take it out.
Right before that negotiation,
you were telling real,
you ain't got it by yourself.
You can't do shit.
And in 30 minutes,
late into your wife,
she'll brush your teeth to the boy.
She's got it.
She's got it.
She's going to do great, honey.
Oh, that should have been my fault.
She told me she was going to start taking care of herself.
So, sweetheart, I'm also challenging her to take care of herself.
Yeah.
We'll find out tomorrow if this all paid off.
I mean, it's layers.
It's layers.
You just look at the first layer, go deeper.
And then you kind of sit there, the awkward pause for three seconds.
I'm sitting there for three seconds thinking to myself,
can I press play and start watching TV again?
Are we now having a conversation?
Because this is this Reacher, honey.
It's based on some novels.
I sit there and I kind of like do one of those.
I like look back and I sit there,
I look at the TV again.
I look back and I was like, can I turn the show back on?
She's like, yeah, you can turn the show back on.
She's laughing.
We're going back and forth because it's,
I am always trying to find some wiggle room.
It's okay, yeah, you don't want to brush your teeth.
How about this?
Let's get right in bed.
Let's turn the lights off.
so that was my
pseudo kind of
dad lost for a moment
it was almost chaotic
I thought they were both
breaking down upstairs
and was like oh fuck
I kind of left her with the grenade
I need to go up there
and then I see her on her knees
like they're on the bed sitting up
you know what I mean
and she's like brushing her hair
and I'm like fuck I didn't
why brew rat
she's a punk dude
that's like rat
like third time rat
that's a lot
she rats a lot
I like the kid but she's a rat
yeah
and kids do
and I'm trying to figure out the pocket where I can try and actually breaking down
when you say stuff and when you don't.
But there's gray area in there.
Yeah.
And Game of Thrones might be a good teaching tool there.
See, honey, if Littlefinger, if he tells Searcy that Ned said this,
Ned's in a whole world of trouble.
So he's got to keep his mouth shut like you need to to mamas.
But if you watch,
the sweeter, I just told you about Littlefinger,
if you watch Ulf in the recent House of Dr.
dragon, you can't lie in everybody.
You can't lie at everybody.
Because then what do you got to do?
You got right off on your dragon.
It's you versus the world.
You're going to end up drunk in a porta potty.
She says booze or anytime it's a new drink,
she's like,
da-da, is there booze in there?
And I'm like, no.
Where did she hear that?
I guess Charo.
Boo.
She tells her booze.
Sweet are you can't have that.
There's booze in it.
So any new drink, is there booze in there?
Can I have a drink?
And just holding up sippy cups too, I'm sure.
Go ahead.
Dan boozing this?
Not boozing that, honey.
You're good.
Yeah.
Do we want, just so we don't have them kidnapped all day,
we want to rip into these packs.
Oh, my goodness.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Let's change us into a dub right now.
Let's get a little dad rip going here.
Yeah.
You may have seen across the ripping with the boy socials.
Taylor's been chasing electrolytes.
I figure let's bring some electrolytes, hopefully, to the dad's here.
So we got electrolights in our hand right now.
Yeah.
What exactly are we looking for?
So this is Topps Resurgence.
The hit that we're looking for is called Electrolites.
Okay.
And it's just going to say Electrolites on the card.
Yeah, you'll see it.
It looks nice and pretty.
Also, do we want to do if we get a big hit?
Derek Henry.
Sure.
Friend of the show?
Friend of the show.
Calvin Ridley.
Sure.
Kind of a friend of the show.
Jackson Smith and Jigba.
That's why receiver in the league?
I don't see Electrolites.
No electrolytes.
And how will we know?
We know that. We're dead. We're dead lossin right now.
Take that loss.
Ugh.
Anything. You see some nice color, but otherwise electrolytes.
Ooh.
Maybe an auto?
Chef?
What do you? It doesn't matter if there's like a Game Boy or something behind the player?
Those are Voltaic.
Voltaic, are those great?
They're an insert. They're okay.
Okay, I got Caleb Williams.
Nice. Voltaic.
Something.
It seems like I got me.
Conductors. Oh.
Ward conductors, we'll take those.
And just, I'm, I'm
just making sure, because I don't know
what I'm looking for. You're good.
It sounds like you want to find
electric lights. These are all just basic cards.
Yeah, you may have like a silver in there, nothing
crazy. Okay, cool. Yeah.
These are all basic cards as well.
Just want to make sure. Yep.
You know, I'm telling you, you will know if it's
electrolyte. Okay. It says it.
That card on the left looks pretty sick.
Is that a chief?
Yeah. It's a fun one.
Chris Jones.
Chris Jones.
That's a good player.
Yeah, Chris Jones.
I wonder if he's got any dogs.
Hey, we got to rip our-
He's deciding to give away.
Yeah, we got to rip our guy, by the way.
The Long Snapper.
He has a card.
We need it.
Yeah, dude.
We need that.
Shout out, Casey.
Yeah, Casey.
Critter?
Creater.
He got K-R-E-I-T-R, but his handle is Critter.
61.
So I'm going to go with Casey Critter.
Okay.
Casey did that dude.
So us shouting out Casey Critter.
Long-Snapper for the Arizona Carder.
We were at the Hall of Fame game last week in Canton, Ohio,
and we're sitting on the sideline pregame.
All the boys are warming up.
And Casey runs up.
Massive fan of Four the Dads.
If he's listening right now, Casey, good luck out there in Camp.
I hope you're keeping your head low.
Come on.
I hope you're keeping those camp eyes right.
But he starts talking about his trash day failures with his wife.
And he had a voicemail that he said he left.
Deeks kicking himself that it didn't make the cut because he had a whole debacle where it's like the dog poops and something.
And it's loose.
in the trash bag. He gets the trash bag.
He's got shit on the shoulder. But he's just
talking to me about a good old fashioned
dad lost with the trash. And he shout out
the boys. He's talking about what a but you are. He's
shouting out Deek. He double took on
Chef. He's like, oh, chef, what
a, what a stud. Because that's a specimen.
That's a specimen. And I'm sitting there
just seeing an NFL player
talk about listening for
the dance. And he's like, man, I'm two months behind.
I'm still trying to catch up. I rock you guys on my
commute every day. And I'm like, dude, this
is fucking awesome to hear. Welcome to the
show bro welcome to the community he's going to catch up i wonder if he has dogs we got to dive into
the dogs conversation because we have followers from last week we do we have uh we have dog talk i'm
gonna kick this dog conversation off with a comment here from frank call 66 03 shout out jack
great showing shout out jack in the comments um frank frank frank frank call 66603 this is a comment on
YouTube that's going to kick off
this dog conversation that we're going to come back
to with Sherm. I'm ready.
The dog conversation is
exactly why I love this pod. Love how you guys
keep it real. Even when you know there will be lots
of upset people in the comments. There's no
shortage of that. That is true.
Shirm, we've been dealing with the same conversation
in our house. For now, we have
decided to keep the dog due to the commitment
we made when adopting him, but the
conversation does get revisited
on almost a monthly basis.
That's the kick off the combo.
And Sherms in a situation where him and wifey were like, hey, do we send, do we send our two little dogs on a permanent vacation to Grandma's House down in Texas?
Actually, going to Grandma's House, actually a loving home.
Yes.
Because of some of the things that these dogs do that cause some chaos in their household.
Just to kick it off.
This is for Brett Anderson, 1630 on YouTube.
Just quitting on the dogs is crazy work.
Giving them the grandma is quitting.
I'm sorry, boys.
If you can't handle two dogs, but you think you can handle more kids, what are we doing here?
Fellas, come on now.
What are we doing?
Brett brings up good points.
Does he?
Does he bring up good points?
Sherm?
Because what I'm hearing, you can't handle two dogs, but you think you can handle more kids.
That is, that's a shot.
That's a bullshit shot.
That's a bullshit shot.
Because your heart, mind, body, soul when you're thinking about your kiddos and you're looking at your kiddos.
Your kiddos are why you're even thinking about giving the dogs when the first place.
But you just, you love the kids so much or kids if you're wanting to have more kids to where it's just, it's a zero question of your mind.
The dog just becomes a lower priority.
Yeah.
I hate to say it, but like a take it or leave it.
Some people are obsessed with their dogs and that's totally fine.
Again, a dog guy, dog guy.
I have a dog waffle.
She shit all over the house and peaked all over the house over the weekend.
and I brought up the same question.
When can we get rid of her?
Yeah.
But if that's a kiddo, like you're just so like,
kids gonna be in your life forever.
Your soul wants them in their life forever.
You can handle more kids without being like,
oh, I failed to take care of three dogs.
We shouldn't have more kids.
No, no, you just see dogs.
Dogs, it's people, dogs.
Yeah, it is.
And I want Brett to know in all seriousness,
he is talking to the guy
that in this situation,
with my wife, I'm the one that has advocated strongly to keep the dogs.
And I'm not just talking, oh, honey, we can't do that.
I'm talking, honey, that's bullshit.
We're not getting rid of the fucking dogs.
Quit, quit talking about it.
Like, we made a commitment.
We're keeping the dogs.
So this is a follow of conversation after last week's box.
No, no, no, no.
I'm just talking in the past.
Got you.
When Jill has this baby bump with little scar, scar, grown in her.
and she's like, I'm just telling you.
And usually 10 out of 10 times, Jill is right when she says,
I'm just telling you, I got a feeling.
I feel like this could be an issue.
We need to look into this.
How are we going to deal with the dogs?
Now I'm sitting there going, don't worry about it.
I got it.
I got it.
It's going to be good.
And now I'm kind of sitting here on the other side and I'm like, damn, like, Jill was right.
And then when I bring up the stuff with the snarling and the snapping,
that one time from Wrigley,
it like,
it helped a lot
having that conversation with you guys
and all of you guys collectively
being like,
that,
that changes the situation.
Oh,
it absolutely changes the situation.
I had a buddy back in the day.
I was in high school.
So again,
this is dog lover peak, right?
Like dogs,
like you just grow up,
you love the animals.
And dog made a little,
I guess,
a little move on the kiddo.
Nothing like,
like egregious but something and he shot the fucking dog and you're talking and it he
he and we're talking hey and we're talking hey this is like you know country boy
in Missouri yeah yeah yeah and it was just the first time i kind of witnessed the human
have that uh switching their soul to where when he told me it didn't even phase him when he was telling me
Oh, yeah.
Because he's older than me.
Because he had two kids at the time.
Yeah.
And obviously they were growing up and stuff like that.
But yeah, he shot the dog.
I mean.
And I'm like, hey, how were you able to even fucking bring yourself to that?
He's like, oh, it's pretty cut and dry with me.
A hundred percent.
I know a lot of people that take that stance with pets and their kids.
Like you do something to my kid.
Yeah.
There ain't no way you're going to be able to stop what I'm about to do to said animal that just did that to my kid.
And I get that.
That's a real thing.
Yeah.
I.
But just a perspective on the extreme.
Oh, yeah.
Hey, you're a delivery of, uh, yeah, you know, something like, unforgivable really bad.
Shot the dog.
Yeah.
You know, I wasn't nothing egregious like he didn't like full on bite, but maybe like it a little aggression.
and shut the thaw.
He pumped one in them.
Oh my God.
I know.
And I was just
there were PTSD.
Kind of scared hearing that.
There are PTSD in the
in the comments with the raccoon thing.
They're like, sure,
why haven't you just gone up into the crawl space
and just, you know.
Shot it.
Do like a little 22 caliber so it doesn't scare the neighbors
and, you know, just take care of the raccoons.
I'm like, I'm with you.
in city limits. Like I'm not out in the country.
Can just go up there and just,
dot, that, dot, that, that, that. Some raccoons.
I don't know. They said put four in the coon.
Well, there were four raccoons in that. Oh, yeah. And there were four raccoons in that
situation. In their babies, right? They were.
He just threw into the babies. Yeah.
Yeah. There were babies. Oh. But to that point, dude, like I felt that rage when Wrigley
did snap and show teeth and start growling.
Like, it truly was everything inside of me to hold back on Wrigley,
but to also, I ripped them off the ground,
took them instantly into the laundry room, shut the laundry room.
Scarlett's losing her mind in the kitchen.
I'm like, that was not okay.
Like, that was nothing about that was okay.
I'm checking Scarlett to see if she got bitch.
She's fine.
she didn't get bit and then i overhear you
because taylor had asked like hey how was for the dads this morning
and you gave them like a little rundown little synopsis yep
and i walked into the room where they're talking about it and taylor literally looks
looks me in the eyes and it's not joking is dead serious and it was like hey if that's my kid
my dog dog's gone dog's gone next day like no question you're you're not doing the
bad thing. So it helps to hear that that like... Because you feel like when you're questioning in it,
you fully know the side, you fully know the sphere in which quitting on the dogs, giving up on the
dogs, man, this is, it doesn't feel like people really do this. You kind of get in your own
head about it. But then you hear like what Taylor said, or my experience with my buddy been like,
oh, it's pretty cut and dry with me and, you know, shooting the dog. Oh, a hundred percent. And
there's also the euphemism of like
oh it went to the farm
you know like yeah they
going by the way we're not saying shoot your dog
I just want to make that very clear
very clear just storytelling there
that's a very good stance to take
yeah yeah don't shoot the dog
don't kick the dog don't kick the dog
the um but yeah
the grandma's house thing like that's not a euphemism
either it's like literally
grandma's house where they have
lived for multiple years where there are there are two cats that they get along with very well
like they are friendly with the cats that still live at the house they have this huge backyard to go
explore in it's like it's a no-brainer so jill and i sat down after the pod of last week and i told jill
that i felt comfortable after talking with you guys because there was some conversations off the
pod as well with you guys. I talked with Taylor a little bit more about it as well, talked with
my dad about it, then broke it down to Jill and I said, I think it would be good if they went to
Fort Worth, not on a permanent vacation, but just on a vacation of a couple months,
figure out a scenario, a situation, a plan of Scarlett is now walking. Scarlett is now, because
the dogs are so small, dude, that once she's upright, they will not be in her face.
And when we're able to, like, communicate, hey, with Wrigley, don't get up in Riggly's face
because one time he snipped at you, like, building, like, you just can't build that knowledge
and that education with Scarlett right now with the age that she's at.
Like, we're doing, you know.
I think it's still going to be tough to even when they're one and two, because they're just not
going to have the...
Oh, dude, for sure.
For sure.
I mean, it's probably going to be like a year, a year or two.
I was going to say that two months is going to turn into a year, year or two.
They're just going to turn into.
Oh, for sure.
Forever.
Yeah.
But the plan is a vacay, not a permanent vacay.
Call what you want.
Dogs are gone.
Yeah, they're gone.
Dogs are gone.
So, uh, Lisa is coming to pick them up Labor Day weekend.
So it's happening.
It is truly happening.
Sherman is giving away his dogs.
You're quitting.
I'm quitting.
I just go to the other side.
Like, dude, you're really going to quit?
Wait, so, okay,
funny, Brett's my best friend from back home.
And we talked on the phone for like an hour.
And we both agree, you're a quitter, Sherman.
Both dogs?
Both dogs.
I know you guys were talking about one or the other or what.
I know.
I think that's the best decision.
I know.
I think we're going to miss them.
Yeah.
Packaged deal.
We're going to miss them really bad.
I am happy for them because right now they are behind a baby gate
to where they basically go out whenever they're going on a walk
or going into the backyard.
So let's say there was a comment about having a gate up.
Yeah.
And it weighed on a couple people.
Yeah.
Going off of Sherm's dog situation,
we had something similar where our Pomeranian
that we've had for six years would snap at our one-year-old crawling around.
We did the baby gate separation for like six months,
but it just ended up having our dog secluded in a room away from the baby.
It hurt us, but we made the decision to rehome the dog,
and it made for a less stressful on-edge household,
where we were tiptoeing around every dog slash baby situation.
I've been there with Sherm in the sense of not giving up on a dog
because he was our world before the baby.
But the baby has to come first,
and that's the decision my wife and I made,
which that comes from McCola plays on YouTube.
I also, I do want to shout out,
just super quick.
I should have put them all together to shout out everybody's names.
I probably all together got around like 14 DMs from people that were books
that were basically like, Shirm, done this exact same thing, dude.
And it's hard and it sucks.
But dog sniffed at baby one time and we were like, yeah, that ain't happening.
And a lot of them very similarly were like to family members to in-law.
to sisters, brothers that like wanted, needed, we're happy to have the dogs and we're going to
happy homes. And some of them were like from shelters where you can have the shelter re-home.
So there's a different story with everyone. But I do want to think those people that reached out to
me, like as weird as it sounds, it was helpful to be able to read those DMs and be like,
okay, I'm not a complete heartless, soulless, dude. I know. I feel like it happens so naturally.
like Waffle legitimately, the height of love that I felt having a dog like Waffle, because
English Bulldogs was like my number one.
English Bulldogs, like AM Stavs, so we had a Rottweiler growing up, loved the Rottweiler's,
but obviously we had a smaller, we were in a townhouse at the time.
But when Charles brought Waffle home, dude, I was elated.
And Charles's pregnant, she's growing, her belly's growing, and I'm just snuggling on the
couch of Waffle, giving Waffle kisses like telling Waffle, you're never, this little thing growing in
here is never going to take the number one spot.
You're going to be my number one forever.
felt that way at the time.
And it just shifts.
It's so weird.
It just happens.
Like that's just the way it goes.
And I was convinced that Charles, like, you think when Surrulian comes that, that waffle,
I'm like, dude, Waffles number one forever.
And I look at Waffle.
Like, nobody's going to take your spot.
Like, you mess with her little face, give her kisses and stuff.
And now, like, you know, I show her love, but it's almost like pity love.
Yeah.
hate even saying that like i i still love on her not in the same way but it's very much like it's dude
kids are just so it is the number one priority and it pains you that you have such a shift
to put you just in this weird headspace because it sucks but the moment the moment they do get a
little territorial it just i don't know it just it just it just happens in you man yeah and it's
it's something where like uh the comment from brett uh where he was talking about like having
more kids? Like, do you think you'd be able to have more kids if you can't even handle a dog?
The, to add to that mental shift as well, with a dog, it's, I'm trying to find the right
words to describe it. At no point do you kind of look down at your child and think to yourself,
oh, well, if this doesn't work out, like she could go to grandma's house. Yeah. You never look at
your child in a way to where it's pure. Like, obviously it's the responsibilities are there.
constant, but you don't like look at your child in a way that your kid is like a responsibility.
Where I feel like when I look at when I look at having waffle or just having dogs in general,
it just becomes like a, you know, it's like you're doing your best to be a parent.
You're doing your best to be a husband.
You're juggling those things along with juggling all of your own stresses that you have going on,
whether in work, health, whatever it is.
Like keeping your own, keeping everybody's sanity afloat, like embracing the suck,
having a positive and optimistic mentality,
having the fun and love that you have,
like growing your family.
Yeah.
And the dog ends up just,
I feel like I look more at it as like,
this is just added responsibilities.
And I don't say this out of defense.
This is like truly where my heart is on it.
To like give people full context.
If we own the home that we lived in,
we're renters,
I would 100% have a doggy door going into the backyard.
I would have a brand new fence put in,
where the dogs can't escape out of the back.
And I would have a baby gate up where they also have their own space inside of the house
from the doggie door with their water bowl, their food bowl.
And I would make this work.
Like that's where my heart and my mind are at.
I can't do that at my rent house.
I just can't, I can't do that, which sucks.
And that's what I would truly want to do before I would ever consider taking this step of
like Lisa coming and taking the dogs to her house.
But that's another thing too that I talked about with Jill because it's not like we're
in the housing market, but I've had some conversations with you of like that that's in our
future.
And like that's a perfect example of them being able to come back is like Scarlett's 3 now.
You know, we have a backyard.
We have a doggy door.
Like we have a baby gate.
we have a setup that we can do and like, yeah, like, that's what I want.
I want that.
Like, I'm really sad that the dogs are going.
I'm like, I'm really gutted because I do love them.
But at the same time, I like, I know that Scarlett's way more of a priority.
And I just keep on telling myself with like, if she had a scar on her face for the rest of her life, dude,
and I look at that face and see that scar and know that it's there.
because of my inability to take action,
I don't want to live with that weight.
Like, I cannot do that.
Cannot do that.
To put a ball on it, this is from EMK Bert on YouTube.
Chef wins the dog argument.
And he did.
I don't even know what he said.
And he did.
I don't even remember what I said.
You said there was some classes that we could take.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Because we also, we got to a solve of even the electric gate,
the invisible gate.
Visible game.
Visible fence.
Also, I like have the cop out of like the dog that I have.
It's really my girlfriend's dog.
I'm like the pseudo dad, but I only get to see her, you know, every once in a while.
My girlfriend's also like going to vet school to be a veterinarian.
So it's like I'm not going to have a fucking choice in this.
Like she'll, you know, she always makes it work.
But that's like she loves it too.
Oh, I feel like I can kind of like co-sign my, hey, we'll make it work because I know that at the end of day we got.
I got a badass woman who will 100% make a work and I'll just be there.
His life is like dedicated.
Yeah, she's in Grenada right now.
She starts going January.
She's like touring the college right now.
That's crazy.
I'm excited.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Good combo, boys.
Good combo.
Thank you to everybody that pitch in.
This is why we dad, man.
This is why we dad.
Even the people that do call me a quitter, joking or not.
Like I appreciate people's inputs.
I feel like that's kind of the backbone of the show is.
people be able to
if they listen to you
if they do a great job
of listening to you
they know that it's obviously
a very tough decision
and you struggle with it
multiple times
for sure
it ain't like you're just
cold-hearted
yeah
it's like hey I'm gonna go
put the dogs down
we're gonna put them down
for the long nap
real long
it's so we shot
you sound tough
and put that dog down
the morrow
it's so he shot him
not in my house
fucking Christ
when he dropped that on me. I was like, oh my God.
New dads.
New dads out there.
This one came from Garrett Somm, 874 on YouTube.
He said first time PT6 reporting in with the arrival of our identical twin boys, Cooper and Jonah.
Let's go.
Let's go.
I got one here from Anthony Weber 9206.
Boys, wife and I are expecting baby number two in January, 2027.
We're having a baby girl, our own little.
Scotty Ann Weber.
Keep doing your thing, guys.
Love the pod. Congratulations to you
and your wife, my friend. This one
comes from For Rocious
on YouTube.
For Rocious says, Evie the Brave
is a legend for the PT6 community.
That little girl is going to grow up
with so many fans and so many people that
love her needed the update. Thank you
and God bless the pains.
Dude, I also had follow up. People were shouting
out Evie the Brave, man. This is from
Brando, 090.9.
I love Brando.
Hit the bong for Evie the brain.
Had me rolling, cry, laughing emojis.
Can't wait.
Then somebody commented on to that or replied under that YouTube comment.
Can't wait to show Evie that clip down the road too funny.
That is from Mr. Payne himself.
God, that pain, dude.
Dude, shout out to me being so.
Dude, hit the bong.
Dude, I was so in tears that when I then tried to say the right thing of gong,
I called it a dong.
So you said hit the bong and then I started saying hit the dong.
That's what, uh, Shea Black here X, X6W on YouTube,
Shirm correcting Will by saying hitting the dong instead of gong multiple times was classic.
We just, he just sat there and doubled down.
We said after he done it in the bong, hit the don't.
What's crazy too is when even that clip came out, I wasn't even aware.
And then when I saw gong, I was like, oh my God, that is a gong.
What the fuck am I talking about?
There's a, there's a few time on the show where like, Scherm will
start laughing at you and you're like,
ha ha.
And like I can tell you're not registering what the joke is.
And that was one of those moments.
We're looking back,
he's dying.
And it was like,
penelope for a half second where you're just like,
yeah,
hit the ball.
Yeah,
hit the,
I'm like,
man,
he's really,
he's really hurting over.
They hit the bong.
I said it,
but hit the bong.
Maybe like the voice.
I don't know.
I had,
did you know that I'm saying the wrong thing?
A hundred percent.
That is hilarious.
That is hilarious.
That is hilarious.
Tears in my eyes,
dude.
that truly was like a visceral,
like,
I've laughed while crying.
The bottom of that card was my favorite thing because chef snuck in Wilcompton to a three-year-old
cancer survivor.
It was like the best bottom card I think I've ever seen in my life.
That was unreal.
I didn't even know.
Once I read gong and one of the comments, I'm like, oh, yeah, it's a fucking called a gong.
And I'm like, maybe the boys didn't know either.
Wait, it wasn't here.
You guys all knew.
I'm a fuck, man.
That dad brain.
We're the, we're in the create dummies.
No free shoutouts.
God, create.
Get on with the boys, man.
Come on.
Hey, we also had a letter, a package, if you will, that as we get into, maybe we jump into our crack of cold ones next.
All right.
Dylan Williams, I wanted to do a quick shout out of Dylan.
He sent in from Garrett Land and Cattle, which it sounds like he is an employee of Garrett Landing Cattle or an owner.
Yeah, he says, I see you fellas eat beef.
Great thought.
Let me send you all a beef bundle from GLCB,
a direct-to-consumer beef company I operate.
Oh, there you go.
So he, I mean, we've been in the comments and we're working some other stuff.
But yeah, shout out Garrett Landon.
So shout out.
And then shout out Dylan specifically.
He sent over all this stuff.
That was one of the meat sticks that I like you test out.
Meat sticks were incredible, by the way.
I wanted the spicy ones.
Oh, dude.
Had a good little kick to it.
They're so good.
And they came in clutch yesterday.
I was looking for a snack before the food got here.
And I saw him sitting in the fridge.
The honey jalapeno.
Crack them.
Oh, man.
And unfortunately,
let me get my hands on one of them.
Dylan did write in in his letter and said,
this is Hawkeye country.
This is Hawkeye meat.
Will he apologized.
That's okay, man.
I have a love-hate relationship with the Hawkeyes.
As much as I'll literally never,
I won't say never,
but 99% of the time I won't say anything good
about the Iowa Hawkeyes and football.
And it's always going to be,
you know, we need to beat their ass.
And they've owned us for the last decade.
Kate. Yeah. I always find
myself, I enjoy
all of the Iowa Hawkeye fans.
They seem like good people.
They do. Well, because they're from the
Midwest, like that's salt of the earth.
Yeah. Only thing different about
Nebraska and Iowa was the spelling.
You know what I mean?
Same with Missouri. You can throw Missouri in that
category, Kansas. I love that.
Only thing different with people like that is just
a spelling. I hadn't
heard this until a podcast
that was a Big 12 football podcast called Heartland podcast.
Yeah, yeah.
I never heard the Midwest like referred to as the Heartland.
And on the packaging of Garrett Land and Cattle,
it says, you know, manufactured or manufactured and harvested from the Heartland,
which I love.
That's good meat.
So what we have here?
Are we just doing a tasting?
Cheddar cheese, some of sauce.
Sausage.
We do it.
Hey, scene.
We just shouting out Dylan.
Yeah, just shouting them out.
Shouting out the boy, man.
This is the one that won't trash,
Sherm.
Oh, it was a little.
December sausage.
I even asked for water.
Yeah, this is the cold.
Thank you, chef.
Do you like the end,
like butt cut?
I'll like it all.
All right.
Big butt guy.
Big butt guy.
Building on the crack of cold ones.
Dude, my crack a cold one this week,
brought to us always by fucking
olipop.
Shout out of Ollipop.
Forever and always.
They need to be a,
I'm really talking about how people need to sponsor the show.
They do.
Oliapop needs to be our title.
Yeah.
They need to be our presenting.
Title, yeah, presenting sponsor.
We do have room for anybody out there listening.
We do have room for anybody to come in.
But the relationship with Olipop, we need to get some Olipop.
Mike record one this week.
Do we try going to the fair on Saturday?
Yes, the Williamson County.
Yeah, dude, it's always a great time.
It's so fun.
We've been each year.
It's felt like a tradition where we always have to go now each year,
because we went with Rue when she went on the little bumblebee ride.
Now she's tall enough to hit some of the bigger rides.
I know she's stoked.
But we went with the in-laws on Saturday,
and wouldn't you know it?
Didn't play in on the rain.
I want to say we got there around like five.
Clouds were coming in,
and rain started to come.
But the crack of cold one is handling the moving target.
I'm talking the optimism, top the bottom.
From mom and dad to the in-laws, to the kiddos and Rue,
I thought she'd be way more bummed than she was.
Like, she was bummed.
but it's like, hey, we're going to spin this around.
We're out right now.
We're still going to go have a good time.
Went to a Pilato down in Franklin.
Yeah, buddy.
And it was amazing.
Then we went to, you know how we always order Uber Handel's homemade ice cream?
Yeah.
We were like a half a mile away.
We went to Handels and was eating out of the picnic table in the rain.
We're all like under the umbrella, just having a good time.
But just turning a moment of like expecting to go to the fair, not doing it and still making an evening out of it.
Yeah.
That's my crack and cold one.
Dude, that's a great crack of a cold one.
I was going to say, Will, that's really nice because similarly, I was supposed to go fishing on Saturday.
And as we got to the boat to put it on the trailer, it started raining.
And unlike her daughter, my 24-year-old best friend threw an absolute temper tantrum that we couldn't go on the lake.
Like a five-year-old temper tantrum was stomping his feet like, this is bullshit, dude.
The radar wasn't doing this.
And hearing that, I cannot wait to call him after work and relay and go,
Will just talked about his four-year-old daughter having like the best day after they can't go to the fair.
Yeah, like it was a bummer because we started to walk into the fair.
We saw the clouds coming in and we were at the entrance towards like, you know what?
Let's get in with a hit if you rise.
And then when the rain comes, like we'll figure it out.
But they started to not let people in because lightning in the distance, all that kind of stuff.
So we didn't even get to go in and we're kind of just staying in there.
And it was like, it all felt like in unison.
I know for me, I was like, all right, good mentality.
I was like, we're out right now.
Dude, let's just be optimistic.
Let's just keep the energy up.
Let's go find somewhere.
Let's go out to eat.
We got everybody together.
Let's go out to eat.
I was starting to try and look up arcades.
Obviously, it would have been sick if we were close to Dave and Busters,
but going up to Opry land with Dave and Busters.
But I was looking at some fun things that we could do.
I'm like, man, is Rue old enough?
Like, could Scotty keep her wits about her if we were in an escape room?
But we ended up settling on.
Let's go to Pilato.
Pilato Rips in Los, hadn't been there.
We haven't been on the one down in Franklin.
In Germantown, it is incredible.
Tapistal Italian and the food top to bottom A plus.
So we went to Pilato, got in, and hit some ice cream afterwards.
It's a good vibe, man.
Pilato's so good.
And there's something like, we talked about it with the Vanderbilt spring game, where it was raining.
Yeah.
I didn't have the see-through bag.
The store, you went to a little apparel store.
Yes, sir.
Yeah.
And like there is such a beauty in that of my mom always have the philosophy of she would say let the day unfold whenever your plans like don't come to fruition or it doesn't work out how you wanted it to.
You just let the day unfold go with the flow.
And I love little moments like that because sometimes the best memories come from the rainy day.
Hey, remember when we got ice cream in the rain dad?
Yeah.
And you were sitting there making the funny faces because we all had to squeeze underneath the umbrella and make it work.
and like there's godie taking my ice cream there you go dude ru experimenting with some birthday cake
ice cream ru is strictly a vanilla and sprinkles but now her palate with everything too she's trying
new foods she's like into trying new foods and if she don't like it she's like i don't like it but her
trying it's firing us up bro she used to be like a one trick pony ru is a little girl yeah she's
a little girl now it's yeah it's nuts and she starts school next week like last night my wife and
we went to the opening night for parents.
She's in Montessori.
That's right.
So close to kindergarten, I don't know.
Yeah.
But she's in the three through five age range.
Going back to the same classroom.
One different teacher, but one the same.
Yeah.
She's fired up.
And just the confidence that she has, the confidence that we have now,
I remember last year when I was, we were on the so, breaking down Roos' first day
of school and the emotions that go into it.
And she's coming in and feeling like a little vet in year two, doing the parent,
doing the parent opening a night thing last night, sitting down.
down kind of hearing the same stuff.
I almost kind of fell asleep.
I was like,
you can really get anything new out of that to my wife?
She's like, it's good to get out and get around all the parents and stuff.
I'm like, I know.
But, yeah, man, Roos fired up.
I'm fired up for her to go back school.
Like, we wanted to articulate like a good summer for where we got to go to Europe.
We do the pool all the time.
Like right now, I want to say she's out with her mom doing breakfast and they're going to swim at,
they're going to swim somewhere else today, have a little like mommy daughter day.
Yeah.
But she's had a good summer.
She's fired up to go back.
I'm juiced that she's going back.
Because the school is awesome.
And a lot of good people there.
And it's just fun to see just her confidence.
We went through a yearbook yesterday.
And she named all 26 people that were involved in her class.
Oh, yeah, everyone.
God, I love that.
Yeah.
Dude, starting to see the little budding of friendships.
Yeah.
I'll just make up a name.
But there's a girl named Caroline that's in,
Scarlett's daycare
that they hit it off.
I know they're only one years old,
but like the other kids
when I bring Scarlet in,
like in the mornings,
they don't look and like smile
or get excited.
This Caroline girl,
every single time I come in
with Scarlet is instantly beaming
and like making noises
and kind of like doing her hands like this.
And any of the picks that we get from the daycare,
it's Caroline and Scarlet
hanging out with each other.
And I'm like,
they're buddies
like their little friends
like that's crazy
that even at a year old
they like
they start to make those little
like relationships
yeah yeah
dude I saw your enthusiasm
with Scarlett
and her being
she's one now
yeah
I think I saw a comment
I forget what it said
but it's kind of like
a lot of D dude
yeah
he's so OD
he thought
I'm like love
because you were talking about
her elevating
from one daycare class
to another or just being like sad seeing her friends kind of in i'm just i'm like after the fact
i'm thinking of the same thing i'm like yeah i mean they don't necessarily know right now but it's so
funny the enthusiasm you have it's like you you're you're you've you've raised you're like you're on
year seven the way you talk about the emotions going on with your one year old you know her friends
are in the other classroom like the way you describe some of the situations with scotty i'm able to put
my, I'm able to put my head in your headspace just thinking about Rue.
Yeah.
With Rue being four.
I'm like, yeah, I feel him there.
And then after I'm like, I'm like, yeah, she is only one.
She's like one, dude.
I think about Scotty being 21 months right now.
I know.
And you're like, they're hitting it off.
Like they hit it off.
I like can't even imagine Scotty like having a,
having a, I can see her getting excited, but like hitting it off.
They're like having conversation.
Yeah, what's hitting it off even look like?
Like Scarlett picked up a block and went, nah, nah, nah.
Dude, she loved it.
She picked up this meat stick and started who Ron?
Like Caroline comes crawling over.
She dates the meat stick and they're like, they're bonding over.
It was crazy.
My head does go there.
It's so funny, dude.
And like the pressure of like wanting to see Scarlett succeed, wanting to like her transition to like work out into big girl class.
Yeah.
But it is such a small hurdle in the same sense.
I'll send you some picks, chef.
She officially started this Monday in Big Girl class.
So I dropped her off in Big Girl Class.
What's the difference with her?
Oh, dude.
What's the difference?
To that exact point.
Hey, sure.
What's the difference?
Oh, her naps aren't in cribs anymore.
They're in a little sleeping bag that's on the ground.
The gang, the gang she operates with the, it's not tummy time.
They crawl now.
They crawl now.
They don't drink their milk out of bottle.
they drink them out of cups because they're big girls they're big girls they're big girls and then
no passies unless they're napping or they're like arriving or leaving yeah no passies during the day
just some big girl shit I love it continue to be OD man I there's a comment here from a dunker
Duncan rob Robinson Duncan Robertson 8790 on YouTube for will my daughter's almost three in
October her hair is getting so long and she's getting tall like her dad dad when ru's hair got long and she
started growing fast, did it feel like time was slipping away?
Signed, Duncan and Boise, dad of an almost three-year-old girl with a boy on the way
due in February.
Shout out to you, Duncan.
Congrats on the boy coming in February.
I'm sure you are ecstatic knowing you're getting one of each gender.
Absolutely.
Like, shouting out Sherman for the enthusiasm.
Dude, who cares if it sounds O.D.
Even if I'm thinking, like, yeah, that's buddy, she's one years old.
Like, you got so much more.
Like, I do.
You know my stance.
I've always hated that because it's like,
time does move so fast, man. It goes. Like when we, my phone is doing a great job of just bringing up
moments where Scotty was in, not even one yet, and Rue's holding her. And Rue just seems like she has
so much more that baby face, the little crooked teeth of the space teeth. And just happiness
and just seeing her as a baby compared to where she is now at four, it does feel like time just goes.
And you got to enjoy that shit. When you dive into Sehiel Bloom's five types of wealthy breaks down
the time you basically spend with your kids until they leave in high school.
And you essentially spend like 90% of your time with them in these all the way up through high school.
Right?
Yeah.
And after that, it is a steep decline in time you get with your kids.
And we're young.
Like we're young in the game with our kids right now.
Yeah, dude.
But it's like even from 18, you spent 90 plus percent of your life or 75 percent.
Whatever math do you want to do, the majority of your time spent with your kids is when they're in your house until they leave for college.
Yeah. And then you break it down even more from that. Dude, when they're in high school, they have their
own, they have their own friends. They do their own thing. Like, you're more there as a guide and hopefully
a listening here, like you're in tight with your boy or your girl or your daughter and they tell you
stuff. Like that's what as a parent, you're more kind of, I feel like you'll be just more
desperate for the connection that you had with them when they were younger, just knowing that they're
growing up and dude, they're making their own decisions and let's guide them the right way. Hey,
you really fucked up here. This is why you got ISS or OSS. Um, you're going through all
all those iterations in high school. Before that is what middle school, you remember how it was in
middle school. Yeah. You have your own homies that you're trying to go over to their house. You're
trying to do sleepovers. That's like the part where you're not wanting your parents like in your
business as much because you're getting a little bit more autonomy. And you're just growing.
You're hitting puberty and everything else. That's like sixth grade. Like six grade below that.
It's like sports, everything kind of takes up the weekends. You get to enjoy it with them.
But again, in all those in all those iterations, like when did I, when do I feel like I was
just becoming friends. I just wanted to hang out with my friends all the time. Well, 16, when you have a
car, dude, then you don't have the car rides with mom and dad anymore. No doubt. Which that felt like
such a bonding thing. Yeah, like you're losing the grip on your kids. And then it's like,
we all remember when we started to make friends and friends was all about what we wanted to do on
weekends and everything else. You still love mom and dad. You're still with them. That's in like
elementary school. It's like elementary school. That I can envision a little bit more on the horizon,
because that's what?
You got till 10?
Yeah.
You got till about 10 years old.
Yeah.
When you get as much time with them as you possibly can to where you are their entire world.
Yeah.
And up until 10, it's like you're in a pocket as a parent to where you're in the heights of your career.
You're trying to kick off the heights of your career.
You're making big boy decisions that's driven around selfish ambitions and stuff for mom and dad and the family
and wanting to provide for the family, feeling the pressure and stress to where you're also torn when you have that.
perspective of 10 years old in mind of how much time like being intentional about being at home
that's why it's like dude go off about being OD it helps me to uh seeing how my dad operates now
like it truly has helped me to really understand my dad because my dad is a worry war and he does
want to make sure everything's okay and he tries his hardest not to micromanage and he does a
fabulous job, but I can see that every inch of his being is always wanting to help me in some
capacity or, oh, Sherman, you could do it this way and da-da-da. And I'm, when I was a teenager,
I'm like, man, why's he all up in my business? Like, leave me alone, Dad. Yeah.
Shit, I got it. And now when I'm looking at Scarlett, I want to do the exact same thing for Scarlet
at all times. I'm like, I get it, dad. Like, I get it and I really appreciate it. Yeah. And you just
you just, it naturally happens, but you just start to witness how you, the whole mentality of like,
you're losing them every day, every week, every month. Yeah, dude. It's like picking up Roo now, dude,
it's like feeling like a human body, like a, she's taller, longer, heavier, where it's harder
to hold her. And, you know, if I'm throwing a little Scott Zilla on my shoulder and run around the
house and doing the fly thing, Roo wants me to do that with her. So I'll pick Roo up and I'll do it.
And I'm just like, man, it's so crazy feeling how big you are. Because you were just my little
girl. Like, look at all these photos that are all over our house. Oh, yeah.
Like you were just my littlest baby girl.
Like your head was literally smaller than my palm.
Yeah.
I would, dude, she pulls away from kisses all the time now.
Like Scarlett hates kisses on the cheek.
Yeah.
And that used to be my thing, dude.
But she didn't know any better because she was such a baby.
Yeah.
And you just get right in her neck and you,
and she would giggle and laugh.
Yeah.
And now I try and go in for a kiss and she's instantly like.
She'll be back.
She'll be back, dude.
She'll be back, hopefully.
Behind every night spent making the kids' lunches,
there's a lot of suspense.
Will they finally eat the veggies?
Will the pasto survive the first bite?
Will the lunchbox come home empty, half full, or come home at all?
And will you finish episode 8 before you're done slicing the cucumbers?

Hey, Portlandia fans. Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen here.
You know us, or rather you know them. Tony and Candice, Nina and Lance, Spike, and yes, the chicken.
We've played a lot of iconic characters over the years, but today we're showing up as ourselves to tell you about Podlandia, AEO rewatch, our brand new podcast.
Each week, we'll revisit an episode of Portlandia from the very beginning, breaking down the sketches, exploring the backstories of our most like.
iconic characters, revisiting the Portland locations you know and love, and opening up about our
creative process.
How did any of this get made?
Why do we think that was a good idea?
We're ready to talk about it.
And we'll also be joined by the people who helped bring it all to life.
Guest stars, collaborators, and friends, including director Jonathan Chrysall, the mayor himself,
Kyle McLaughlin, legendary musician Amy Mann, and many more.
Kyle is going for it here.
You fully improvised, not just words, but a song, a melody.
I thought he was going to write.
I thought you were all going to write a song.
I remember you thinking that.

On Solita, we share the messy stories of traveling alone as a woman.
Your duolingo is not going to come back to you when a man is inside of you.
Oh, no.
I'm Julie Pinero, and I travel by myself because it's a rare space where I can
yes without asking anyone else first.
I'm on a mission to reclaim the word solita, trading the pity for possibility.
Every time I tried to be alone, I kept meeting people, and they were like,
you smiled at us. Not a lot of people smile around here.
I can wait four hours for the next bus, or this random dude is offering me a ride on his motorcycle.
It's when you're alone that you're most receptive to the world as it is, and not the lies you're sold about it.
So whether you're a solo travel veteran or you're too nervous to book your first trip,
I hope you listen to Solita on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, this is Hayes Davenport.
And Sean Clements.
We host the podcast Hollywood Handbook.
Every episode we're trying to help our guests improve their careers by mainly focusing on how they can help us improve our careers.
The show's famously super accessible so you can easily jump into any of our 650 episodes and understand what's going on.
We recommend some of our recent episodes with Ben Stiller.
The definition of what is a movie has kind of changed anywhere, too, right?
What do you think it is now?
It's images and words being spoken, captured by some sort of technology.
Danny McBride.
He loves Calvin.
Oh, that's fantastic.
And you make it on, you make your own.
That's great.
I call him Terro Reed.
It's a good name.
They're all named after cast members of American Pie.
Yeah.
I call, I don't, I never looked up if she was a.
in this, but I call him Leachie Sobieski.
I don't think she was an American
pie, but I still like that. I haven't looked it up.
She was prominent around the same time.
Then Mary Steenberg.
Why are you guys talking to me?
I'm worried.
Why are you talking so down to me
that you think I don't understand your little
play game? I just really
I get it. I'm trying to set you up for
success here. Listen to Hollywood Handbook

But yeah, man, go off with you.
back on the, oh, did I say that that was my crack a cold one?
I don't even know.
I just think we were just talking shopper.
That might have been a crack of cold one.
That was my crack a cold one and said she has officially started the older class.
Big girl.
Big girl class.
Thank you.
Thank you, Olly Pop.
Always.
And thank you Olly Pop for this crack a cold one.
We got here from Jerry Jackson.
Looks like he's with this boy at a preseason game.
Cincinnati Bengals fan.
Hey, boys, listen to the part of the pod today where you're talking about ball season
coming up and it got me juiced. I took my son Jamie to Bengals training camp so he could get his
eyes on our guy Joey B, Jamar, and T. Higgins. Oh, there you go. Hoping for a better season this year.
P.S. Love you, Deke, but can't stay in your Steelers. Ho day. Jerry Jackson from Cincinnati.
Shout out Jerry Jackson. Here's a wonderful picture of him and a son at training camp. That
fires me up, man. Pitcher's so juice for football season. You're trying to tell the little lad about
everything going on. You see, you see Joey B out there like, that's the guy. He's got a couple
you know this is a big year for joie b he's got to stay healthy he's got his weapons they paid his
boys are building around him a little bit better this is the year because he's a hall of fame type guy
but he hasn't had a lot to show for it and they were so close they could almost touch it yeah and they'll
be back you see joey b sitting with his girlfriend over there they saw a little surfacing of jesson
herbert out in l.a chargers with though who's a madison brere oh yeah yeah yeah yeah so now they're
kind of recreating it like that's not him for real like they did they do that
that for the media for the clicks.
Yeah, for the clicks.
You got to worry about that.
Dude, speaking of dads in football,
Coach O, he's such a dad dude with the amount of stories.
Now that we've had him on the bus.
Yeah.
Which, by the way, generational episode.
Generational episode.
Please go watch that after you're done listening to this.
But Coach O told some stories that he also told on Kyle Matthews podcast.
I think the week prior
that I've also seen him tell on other podcasts
I've also seen him tell on like
you know dinners and stuff
and then his son just got married
and he's like doing a speech at the rehearsal dinner
or whatever and it was a video that went viral
and it's that same story where he's like
we parked outside and on the bus
Joey B was on the bus
Joey B was on the bus
and hey Joe Burrow ain't on the bus
that bus ain't driving on.
It ain't driving on.
And just seeing his smile of knowing that's the punchline,
everybody's going to laugh, dude,
I've seen my dad make that same smile
telling the story for the 20th time
and knowing that he's about to get to that punchline
and they're all about to lose it.
Coach O, dude.
Shout out Coach O.
Chef, go ahead.
I was just going to say that video
that just came out of Coach O dog cussing the living shit.
The whole line was fucking awesome.
That's the ultimate, like, hey, football.
Football starting to get back.
I'm starting to see little...
That's those old people.
Legs coming in though, bro.
He does.
The old people legs where it kind of looks like clay
and just straight going down.
It's starting to wrinkle from all the
slight little muffin flare on the sock.
Just from years of just sitting in the sun in Louisiana.
Hey, just baking in the Delta.
It's bacon.
Bacon in the Delta.
I'm starting to turn into a crawl fin.
What's happening, Will.
You eat enough of it.
You turn into one.
P.T. Sica.
we interrupt this episode to bring you Lucy.
Lucy is our nicotine partner that we are so glad that they have come alongside us to sponsor for the dads.
We have had Lucy in the office for quite a while.
I see the comments.
Sherman, you got the fangs going.
You got the Lucy fangs.
You got the langs going.
When you laugh, we can see them.
You got double upper deckies.
And guys, I don't mind that you can see.
see my double upper deckies because I'm rocking the best.
I got Lucy,
Lucy Pouches rocking 12 millies.
They also make eights.
They also make sixes.
Lucy's got all different types of flavors,
all different types of milligrams.
I usually rock the mint.
I have apple ice right here.
I have winter green as well.
I have cinnamon.
These are all the 12 milligrams.
They also have breakers.
Breakers come with a little capsule of extra juice.
Sometimes other pouches that will remain nameless, they lose their flavor.
Lucy has come up with a way to keep the flavor in the pouch with a little flavor capsule.
It's a nice little break it with your finger or you can break it with your teeth.
You can do that before you put them in.
You can put them in.
And then while you have them in, pop them in the mouth, put it back in your lip.
And they're ready to go and they taste delicious.
Lucy is the only pass that delivers long-lasting on-demand flavor,

Let's get back to this episode.
I have another crack a cold one from Will Gonzalez.
Will writes for Sherm's confidence.
Thank you, Will.
Boys, this pod has been great and shaped me into the dad I've become to my almost one-year-old boy, Miles,
who turns one on August 26.
Happy early birthday.
I typically listen on my way to work in the mornings,
but when I don't finish,
you guys come on during the weekend playtime sessions.
Whenever I put you guys on my TV,
my boy immediately turns around,
points and gets a huge smile on his face.
He especially gets excited when he sees Shirm's mug.
Keep it up, boys. You're making a difference. P.S. Shirm.
Keep the accents. The wife he loves them.
Will from Las Vegas.
Shout out Will from Las Vegas.
Thank you, Will.
Thank you, Will.
Deke, I am so sorry.
Why?
I have a teammate loss.
Oh.
That I'm witnessing right now.
That we've witnessed the clock's not on,
but for however long we've went.
Oh, that's,
so to be fair,
Shirm runs that clock.
I have my phone.
For an hour and 25 minutes,
I have royally fucked you.
By not wearing our new merch coming out.

And you're like, yeah, I'll put it on. And I stood there a little longer and you kind of looked

Do you have, where's that?
It's on top of the fridge, your two.
And then Sherman has his little bucket hat if you'd like to promote.
Yes.
Guys, so I have this, the boy shirt on.

Straight dad on the hat.
But all that, you can find a BWTB.com.
You want to see a sicko.
What do you got?
Like this is, this is, oh shit.
He's recreated the standard.
Yeah.
Not that this needs to be the standard for everybody.
We weren't even expecting this.
Yeah, yeah.
Wailing Ransom writes it again.
Waylon Ransom with the ass tat.
What a name.
Y'all wanted it.
So I'm delivering it.
Waylon Ransom with the ass tat is official.
That was one of the funniest segments ever.
Booked an appointment right after that podcast came out.
Shout out to you boys for throwing out the ideas.
my thigh tat will be added on to in the future.
Shout out Snow Cone.
His work is amazing and he's a great dude.
Check him out on Instagram.
Oh, my God.
Snow Co.
Oh, Snow cone.
S-N-O-C-O-N-E tattoos.
At Snow C-O-N-E tattoos.
P-T-Cicco for life.
And he's sifted in and.
Oh, my God.
But he's got an ass tat.
No.
And a thigh tat.
Pop a Team 6.
On it.
On his ass.
On his ass, he says Ptie sicko, and he's got the bear logo on his thigh.
Waylon.
Oh my God.
Look at Chap.
Look at Chap.
We got our first ass paddle for the dads.
Let's go, Whalen.
That's when you know you made it, baby.
Oh, my God.
As a reminder, Waylon had sent us an email of him holding his kids' hands on June 17th.
And basically it was a shout out.
They had a birthday, some merch.
and then he basically was talking about
how he needs to get some new ink soon
might need to get a PT6 tattoo with y'all's blessing
and so we had talked about on that episode
a little bit we're like getting assed at maybe
and he uh he did it
yeah I saw this come across the old desk
when I sat down was looking through stuff and I was like
oh my god this guy got the ass out of the guy
spelled it right he spelled it right he did
he did and I was asking um
I was asking DEC I was like hey remind me
he said y'all wanted it so I'm delivering it
I was like what happened here he's like well
we kind of talked about
about it episodes back a couple months ago. He's like, you guys joked around with it. It's not like
there was no bet or a challenge or anything else. I was like, this is next level. The power of
words. That's a sicko. Yeah, we didn't realize just throwing it out there. Oh, getting asked at.
He's like, bet. So if you're wondering like, dude, I love this pot. I wonder if people out there
love it the way I do, there should be no more questions. Like, there are sickos out there, man.
Those are the, those are the moments too of like when Charo challenged you with the one shelf of,
man, you're doing a dad podcast or when Jill did pretty much the same thing to me when I was
meowing the yard.
Now I just got to think about whaling that ass tat, man, whenever I'm falling short, not being a good
dad.
Yeah.
There's someone out there with an ass tat that believes in this brand, man.
Tint toes.
You're having a rough day.
Think about that ass cheek.
Two cheeks down.
Yeah, he's standing two cheeks down, man.
That's incredible.
And cheeked up.
Well done, Way.
You're cheeked up.
Mrs. Wayland.
Lucky woman.
Double jimed up on a Tuesday.
Oh, Wednesday as you're listening to this episode.
Shoutouts?
You want to do some shoutouts?
Oh, dude, let's do some shoutouts.
I can't wait because Deeks said we has four hitters with the call-ins.
Oh, should we do call-ins?
We can, hey, whatever your little heart desires, we can run through a couple shout-outs.
I got Amber Hammonds here via email.
My name is Amber.
We are from Pizga.
Oh, yeah, Pizga.
Pizga, Alabama.
EI-E-I-O, LaFal-Loud.
I wanted to give my husband Trevor a huge shout-out.
We have a six-month-old baby boy named Tatum.
We love him so much.
Trevor travels for work and has gone a lot during the week.
I wanted to give him a shout-out and let him know how thankful and proud we are of him.
He is the best dad and husband, and we couldn't do this without him.
We love the pile.
We look forward to listening every Wednesday.

What's up, boys?
This is John Stoll from Columbus, Ohio.
I'm a single Goon Beret uncle thriving in the A-Gap.
I wanted to wish my brother Nick a happy 30th birthday, August 13th,
He is a proud member of Puppet Team 6 to a beautiful nine-month-old Sutton Grace.
It's been really exciting to see him dive face first into fatherhood while operating at a high level, even at 3 a.m. diaper changes.
Good.
He's a great older brother, even better dad.
Love you, bro.
Enjoy the birthday.
We both watch every week, and it would be great if you can get the shout out on the pod.
We share the best moments with each other, whether it's sure him being a fucking piece of it.

What a fam, dude.
dad bro. Yeah, man. Happy birthday. Happy birthday. It's the bong. It's the bong.
Why you had it? Will Cardin, 2682 on YouTube boys just shouting out my son Stetsons for being an
absolute beast. He turns two on November 6th. He's fully sprinting, jumping, saying every word
possible right now. He got moved up into a new class in daycare and he is absolutely
killing it with all the two and three-year-olds. Is it normal for a kid that's not two years old
to be saying full sentences?
He's also potty training already.
And to be honest, it was his decision.
Not a fan of him growing up like this,
but hey, it is what it is.
Love you boys, P.T. Sicko, Owl.
He got moved up in the new class.
Thank you.
I wonder if they call a big boys club.
It can't be big boys because going for going in yours.
From little girls to big girls.
That's the one year olds.
What's the two biggest?
It's got to be.
Got to be.
It's got to be.
Hey, dear, I just want shout.
outs to start becoming just people going,
hey, is my kid.
Is my kid?
This is Lucy.
And then just a picture attached
or sending us pictures of their dots.
This my boy, tank.
He's already 70 pounds,
and it's just a photo of tank,
and he's drooling off the side.
He breathes like his old man
trying to sleep at night.
He's a mouth breather.
He's a mouth breather like his dad.
Dude, I really want that.
Oh my God.
Some schoolpigs would be funny, dude.
He doesn't like to drink apple juice.
He drinks apple sauce from a straw.
He likes it green, man.
This is tank, and it just, it's the picture of the rock when he was 16.
He looks 40.
Oh, my God.
This comes from Trevor Gruel.
Trevor says

Happy second birthday, Rory.
Hit the pop, Roarie.

This last one here from Jesse Richie on Spotify.
This dude, Jesse, he's just shouting out his badass daughter.
Shout out to my five-year-old daughter, Elani.
She fractured her elbow during jiu-jitsu class, horsing around.
Oh, good.
Good.
She's an absolute beast.
The doc told us that she should have been in horrible pain,
but she was just a total boss about it.
She's shy that she has a cast now,
but it's cool and she's tough as shit.
Big dog status.
Sicko out.
Bro, I wish I could sign that cast.
I'd sign that in a heartbeat.
Get into her voicemail, 601, the dad's,
hot, ready, steamy.
Who do we got first, Sherm?
We got hospital dad loss off the rear.
We're just a DJ booth now.
Oh, boys.
It's kind of a tough one.
Got home last night from work.
And wife was having some pains and ran to the hospital.
I'm going to find out she was in labor, which it was just had 37 weeks, so full term.
Baby girl ended up being born.
But massive loss, I realized I left my PT-6 shirt at home.
Oh, fuck.
First couple days of my daughter's life and we're going to be taking her home and she's just not even going to know their dad's an absolute fucking sicko.
He's going to be walking out in a normal t-shirt.
I just, I can't believe this shit.
It's just the pure disappointment myself.
The one thing I needed to remember to pack.
Left it home in the closet.
God damn it.
anyway boys
keep up the good word
keep up the pod
love everything you guys do

Just wear it every day.
He probably had a vision in mind.
He had a game plan and he couldn't execute the game plan.
Yeah.
It pains me, I hear the pain in his voice.
Trust me, we're all pissed off.
But what are you going to do about it?
You got to get back up.
Because it's not about how...
How are you...

We've played a lot of iconic characters over the years,
but today we're showing up as ourselves.
tell you about Podlandia, AEO Rewatch, our brand new podcast.
Each week, we'll revisit an episode of Portlandia from the very beginning,
breaking down the sketches, exploring the backstories of our most iconic characters,
revisiting the Portland locations you know and love, and opening up about our creative process.
How did any of this get made?
Why do we think that was a good idea?
We're ready to talk about it.
And we'll also be joined by the people who helped bring it all to life.
Guest stars, collaborators, and friends, including director Jonathan Chrysler, the mayor,
Kyle McLaughlin, legendary musician Amy Mann, and many more.
Kyle is going for it here.
You fully improvised, not just words, but a song, a melody.
Well, I thought he was going to write.
I thought you were all going to write a song.
I remember you thinking that.

We recommend some of our recent episodes with Ben Stillard.
The definition of what is a movie has kind of changed anywhere too, right?
What do you think it is now?
It's images and words being spoken, captured by some sort of technology.
Danny McBride.
He loves over.
Oh, that's fantastic.
And you make it on, you make your own.
That's great.

She was prominent around the same time.
Yeah.

Why are you guys talking to me?
I'm worried.
I'm worried.
Why are you talking so down to me that you think I don't understand your little play, play game?
I just really.
I get it.
I'm trying to set you up for success here.

On Solita, we share the messy stories of traveling alone as a woman.
Your duolingo is not going to come back to you when a man is inside of you.
Oh, no.
I'm Julie Pinero, and I travel by myself because it's a rare space where I can say yes without asking anyone else first.
I'm on a mission to reclaim the word solita, trading the pity for possibility.
Every time I tried to be alone, I kept meeting people, and they were like, you smiled at us.
Not a lot of people smile around here.
I can wait four hours for the next bus, or this random dude is offering me a ride on his motorcycle.
It's when you're alone that you're most receptive to the world as it is, and not the lies you're
sold about it.
So whether you're a solo travel veteran or you're too nervous to book you.
your first trip. I hope you listen to Solita on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
you get your podcasts.
Get it. Yeah. Yeah. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.
Sorry. Yeah. How much you can take and keep moving forward. Derek just mentioned Sherman,
just hit the boys smell button. What's up, boys? My name is Curtis. Total dad loss.
me and the lady
just like hey let's go to this place
let's take the kids
I got a one year old son
and I have a one year old niece
and we're there at the playground
indoor play jungle gym
and I see my niece
walking to me
and I have my feet kicked up
we're trying to schedule a birthday party there
and then next thing you know
I actually like kicked her in the
face.
How do you accidentally
kept on the face?
Broke my heart.
She was crying.
I was crying.
There's all these different 10-year-olds
looking at me crying,
grown man,
bawling his eyes out.
My son is looking at me.
A lady comes up,
the white piece,
and she just rips into me.
And I'm just sitting there
just taking it.
And I just,
I cannot get over it.
So that's all I got today, boys.
Hope we guys have a blessed date.
And keep doing what y'all doing.
We were missing some details.
That had to have been.
Some crazy.
He had his feet kicked up and he was booking a birthday party or something.
His one-year-old niece was walking over and he kicked her in the face on accident.
We don't exactly know how the kick occurred.
But it seems like he had his feet up and then tried to swing his feet off of where they were, is my guess.
And she was there and he didn't see her.
just clocked her, don't know.
But all the 10-year-olds just staring at him crying while he's crying too,
while his one-year-old niece is probably on the ground because he kicked her in the face.
That's a tough one.
That's a tough loss.
That's a tough loss, dude.
Talk about feeling like you're in the fetal position.
If you're crying too.
One time I'm-
You know what I'm saying?
I was at a summer concert, like, outdoor movie thing.
This little three-year-old kid kicked my dog in the face.
full up, wind up, and kicked him in the face.
And I instantly look at him like,
what the heck?
And everybody that's around looks at this little kid and he starts going,
and then my dog,
because it just got kicked in the face is like barking.
So everybody that's outside of what just happened and didn't know,
they just see my dog barking at this kid that's crying
and they're all giving me looks.
I'm like, he just kicked my dog in the face.
Like, that's crazy.
Easy. He kicked my dog.
Piss me off.
Also, Sherman, I was not doing that to play the next one.
I was doing that motion because you were so close to getting that phrase right.
You just switched like the wording.
It was not telling you to rush.
I thought you were good.
And by the way, you can't be cutting up that meat.
Yeah, come on.
Toss the meat around, dude.
Honestly, like I was thinking about it earlier.
I was like that snack was good.
I want more of it.
But I kind of just laid low.
I was waiting for him to start toss.
We're over there eating during phone calls.
There's another stick.
I asked him for a second slice
and he gave me like a sliver slice
and I was like, what is this?
I'll cut up more during this next voice, man.
You want some more summer sauce?
Did you give me a big one?
I want a big one.
Just cut it.
All right.
Run the next one.
Yeah.
Just keep cutting it.
I click play.
Hello boys.
This is Carlo Piperis.
I'm from a wife.
Did he Carlos.
Love the podcast.
I'm a father.

I'm almost two years old, beautiful little girl, little princess, lover to death.
Made me go crazy to death.
Lover, though.
I just want to say thank you so much for this wonderful, amazing podcast and amazing work that you guys are doing.
I discovered this podcast not a long time ago.
I started from the episode one.
And right now I'm on episode five.

Herman
congratulations
I'm taking sure right now
you have like your first year
birthday and everything
and all of that for your little one
Scarlet
Love the show.
Sorry to say that late.
This would be like a dead egg as well.
Boys learn how to cook.
Learn how to cook.
On the fifth episode, one caller,
the wife got the rum milk,
and he stood up as a real man,
went to Costco and changed the milk.
And you can buy yourself sometime.
boys learn how to cook.
This is the hack.
You can buy yourself some time.
If you have a yard and you have a grill,
go outside, make some steaks,
make some chicken for your wife,
for your kids, for your family,
crack a cold beer,
enjoy cooking and everything.
Because that also will give you some time
to be on your phone,
to give a call to your friend,
you have a little bit of peace of mind.
Doesn't have to be fancy, boys.
I learn how to cook.
Thank you so much, boys.
Thank you so much.
Love the podcast.
It's helping me mentally like crazy.
I don't feel alone.
I'm 28 with an almost two years old daughter.
Beautiful podcast.
You all.
Bye.
I love it.
Carlos.
The ascension of Carlos, bro.
Carlos.
Carlos and that boy's coming in right after the dog kicking.
Guys, I'm being dead.
Serious.
If I am on my death,
And y'all have to deliver the news that like it is terminal.
Please let Carlos be the one to do it.
Please send Carlos in there.
That was beautiful.
That is the dad hack.
It doesn't have to be fancy.
That was my favorite part.
It doesn't have to be fancy.
And it makes me burst it out with laugh.
Little Scotty, she crying or who she crying.
This podcast.
It is Cozilla.
Episode 5.
But I love it, boys.
It's already so, so good.
Dude, I burst it out.
It doesn't have to be fancy.
It doesn't have to be fancy.
But geez, learn to cook, boys.
That is the hack.
That is the way you talk about peace of mind.
Doesn't have to be fancy.
Dude, the best part is that he's on episode 5 right now.
He's not going to hear this for like another like five, six months.
And then he's going to be like, oh, gee, boys.
That is me on the podcast.
I made it.
Oh, Carlos.
Carlos, I need you calling in.
Yeah, every week.
Often, my man.
Please call in every week.
Do we want to jump into emails or one more voicemail?
I kind of want to hear one more voicemail.
Okay.
Maybe we should eat so soft.
He just want to keep eating me.
I was going to say maybe we just need to eat summer sausage every voicemail thing.
There's another stick of it.
Here's a question that I think is fair.
If we do another voicemail,
are we kind of setting that one up for failure,
knowing what type of high we're on?
One million percent.
I don't.
The fourth one is a discussion point.
Someone's asking for advice.
Here's what I word it.
Carlos is he's my white whale on this episode.
But this fourth voicemail,
I wouldn't tell you there was four if it wasn't a good one.
Okay.
Also, one, I just want to warn you.
The meat stick is a greasy, a greasy.
Get meat stick doesn't have to be fancy.
It doesn't have to be fancy.
But that is the dog.
Hey, it's Justin from New Jersey.
Calling in.
Got a question for you guys.
Not necessarily fully a dad question, but it rides the coattails of being a father.
I'm 27.
I have a 25-year-old girlfriend.
who loves talking about
pumping out some kids
looking into some ring sizes
and the conversations
get further and further
so my question to you guys would be
when do you know
I get
having a kid can be beautifully
unplanned
but when do you know when you're really ready to just
even have a kid in the first place
I mean, who really is?
And then at the same time, with it being 2026 and times have changed,
is it so frowned upon to maybe have a kid before a marriage?
Or would you be handicapping yourself?
27, he about it hit that year, those years, the 30s,
where, like, you know, family members start talking about kids.
So just a New Jersey guy here asking for some help.
Do I run?
Do I hunk it down?
Do I start pumping kids?
Talk to me, boys.
Love you.
Well, that was a great voicemail.
Yeah, great voicemail.
Just a New Jersey guy.
Do I run?
And just have a kid.
Doesn't have to be fancy.
Don't have to be married.
Just have a kid.
That easy, that hack.
Seems like he's asking a few different things.
Yeah, he is. How do you know when you want to have a kid?
When is the right time in 2026? Can you have a kid before you're married?
Did I hit all of them? I feel like that's the big three.
Yeah, you did. That was a good reminiscent of it.
Yeah.
I don't know how locked in he is with his girl.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I assume you got to be locked in if you're talking kids.
Oh, for sure.
She's talking rings. If you know you're getting married, like if you know that's times coming
and you just feel like the wedding planning will be longer
than the nine, ten months,
and you guys are going to have a kid.
If that's the woman you're married,
I don't think,
if you want to have kids out of the gate,
then dude, just have kids.
You're never going to fully feel like you're absolutely ready.
Yeah.
You just never are.
Yeah.
It doesn't matter how much you conquer stuff in career,
money you have brought in.
You're always going to overthink it.
If you're kind of like, you know,
paralysis by analysis,
if you're just thinking about all the time, man, it's now the time.
Am I going to regret this?
Am I going to, dude, you're never going to, you're never going to fully know and fully be ready.
If you know you want kids and you know you want kids with this woman and you know you're going to marry this woman.
And you're asking about can we have a kid before we get married?
Number one, we're not the judge jury and executioner on that.
Like in my brain, if you know you're spending forever with this one and you guys both want kids.
And it seems like marriage and the kid thing could be happening.
around the same time.
I don't see an issue.
Like, I brought it up with Charo,
but she didn't want to be in a situation
where it's like we get married
because we got married before we did the wedding
at a, what is it called?
Not a quarter.
We got legally married before we actually had our wedding.
Yes.
But Charo didn't want to have a bump.
She didn't want to have any of that with her dress.
Or she didn't want to be going through postpartum
or anything else like while she's getting married
or have like, you know,
just have the little one around like while we're getting married.
So she wanted to, because we brought it up and we talked about it
because we wanted to try to have kids kind of right away.
I mean, we got Rue when we were.
She was a honeymoon baby.
Yeah.
I know I said a lot right there.
All I know is this.
Make sure this is the woman you want forever.
And if it is, the answer to have a kid is fully up to you.
Or do you want to have the kid before the wedding?
That seems like a conversation with wifey.
After.
Just know.
I hope he's not asking, is it frowned upon to have a kid before you get married and he doesn't know if he wants to get married?
But he do not go down that road.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
If that's the whole reason for like, you know, that's a completely different book, a completely different book.
Of which I do not have the answers to other than, you know, don't just get married because you're having a kid, you know, take your time, process.
What is going to be best for this kid?
I've had some friends that have, you know, from a one-night stand, had a child, didn't marry the baby mama, but it worked out great because they both didn't want to get married, but they're both raising the child, both in the child's life and very active parents and then people that have gotten married.
Like, there's so many ways to cut that cake.
But don't feel like you have to force your hand and getting married.
I love what you said of make sure that she is.
the woman that you want to, you know, raise your children with.
And be, yeah, and be with.
And be with because you, y'all are going to be teammates for the rest of your life.
I grew up in the Bible Belt and DFW where it's frowned upon to even live in a house
with your significant other before you're married.
Not by everyone, but like, it's frowned upon.
You feel that, I mean, my mom cried when I said we were having our wedding outdoors
because she wanted to be in the Catholic church.
Oh, well, with the Catholic Church especially, dude, yeah, feel you on that.
So it's like, yeah, it's 2026.
You're not going to catch any judgment here.
I mean, this is probably the safest podcast to call into.
And we're like, yeah, hell yeah, dude.
Like, have a kid.
Yeah, if you're wanting to know, like, Willie C's thoughts, my thoughts are just,
if you know this is a woman you're going to be with forever and partner and be a partner with forever with children,
then that's up to you guys.
Like you guys want to have them early?
Go ahead and have them soon.
Yeah.
You're never going to know
when you're absolutely ready to have kids.
You're just not.
If you know you want to be a dad
and you know she's going to be an incredible mother
and you guys are partners for life,
and it's like, dude, get the pump in my,
get the pumping, dude.
Well, and to answer Will's question,
I'll say this because Will put it very eloquently to me
when I asked him the same question
of Jill and I had been married
at that point for a year.
And I went and had coffee with Will a couple times.
He brought Rue along for two or three of those.
And I'm sitting there kind of picking his brain about...
Because you were on my ass a little bit too with posting Rue on the story because
Jill would see and get the baby fever.
And he's like, buddy, you're not doing me any favors right now.
Yeah, because Rue's adorable.
It doesn't help that like she's super cute.
And Jill's imagining her own little cute sweetness.
Yeah.
And you were up in the air on if you were ready.
big time dude scared shitless scared shitless and um i don't know i don't know if anybody's ever ready
i don't know if there's any you can certainly prep like i'm sure you could read and watch
videos all about parachutes before you go skydiving but it doesn't change the fact that like
you still got to jump out of the plane in order to go skydiving so um i don't think anybody is truly
ready for that moment, no matter the amount of preparation. Once you're in it, it's way different.
And that's not a knock on prepping. Because I certainly with some of the books that you had given to me and
doing this podcast before Scarlett was even born, the preparation did help. But it's not like
there's some tests that you have to pass. Does that make sense? I feel like I answer that in a bad way.
I know. I mean, it's such a load of question.
And we're coming off like we're trying to give a whole lot of advice and an expert opinion.
Yeah.
It's like, bro, if you know this is the woman you want to be with and that box is checked,
you know she's going to be an incredible mother.
That box is checked.
And you know that you want to be a dad and you're excited about being a dad one day.
And you're just kind of questioning if you're ready or not,
but you check the box of wanting to be a dad.
In the great scheme of things, nobody's ever ready.
But when the little one comes, you're going to know exactly what to do because this is something
that's been in your vision and in your in your life and in your future, when that little one comes,
you're going to know, you're just going to know, like, you'll know.
I'm put, I'm put here to raise this child.
And you'll be dead with your, with your life partner, man.
With your life partner.
You'll be dead me as soon as you meet your, your little one.
I love what Josh Allen said on his interview about his daughter, just talking about how instantly
it softened his heart so much
and that he just feels like a different person now.
Yeah.
Like all that stuff.
Like all the good that comes with it
and just take everything on the chin.
Yeah.
And if you don't have those boxes,
one of them's not checked.
Like you don't know that this is going to be the lifer forever
and that box isn't checked.
Take a pause.
If you know that it is a lifer,
but you don't want to be a dad right now
and you just,
you're feeling a lot of external pressure,
fully understanding like where you're coming,
from. But if you don't check the box of like wanting to be a dad and you being excited about being a dad
and that box is not checked, then take a pause and think about it. Think about it a little bit longer.
Yes. But if those are checked and you're just having like, man, am I ready? Am I this?
I am excited about being dad. I got my girl. I know we want to do life together. Buddy,
get the pumping. Will and I are on a podcast about renting cars. You're currently asking if you
should rent a car. We're saying yes, but we're also saying also get the insurance with it.
Yeah, there you go.
There we go.
Emails?
Dude, emails.
This comes in from, you can write in at 601 the dads at gmail.com.

dad and husband also fills my lifelong travel.
It also fills my long travel day with plenty of laughs.
A couple weekends ago, we took the girls to see Mimi, my mom, to spend the weekend with her
since she lives about two hours away and doesn't get to see them much before school starts back up.
That Saturday, we were going to grill out with her, my stepdad and my grandparents.
While we were eating, his storm came up, and when it stopped, as per usual, these feral
kids wanted to go out and play in the puddles in mud, man. So the wife and my mom took them out
and let them do their thing while I stayed back and talked with my stepdad about how I absolutely
gave him the smoke on the course earlier that day. 10 minutes later, the wife comes in and says,
you need to come out here and look at your kid. I go outside to find my youngest covered in mud.
Right as I went to take a breath to tell them, it's time to get cleaned up. My grandfather
walks by and says, they sure are having fun, aren't they, son?
I waited just a second and responded, yes, sir, they sure are.
He went on to tell me how I should enjoy these memories while I can, while I can,
because memories are all that will be in the blink of an eye.
At the moment I realized, at that moment, I realized they are just kids, man.
I was about to stop them from having fun and enjoying being just kids,
all because I did not want to deal with any more,
clean up than I was already going to have to do.
I say this to say, they're just kids.
Let them enjoy it while they can and soak up the memories while you can.
Do the extra bubbles at bath time and play with all the toys.
Let them crack the eggs for Saturday morning breakfast, make the slime, let them paint with
their fingers, let them hit you with the water balloons, go along with the pranks that you already
know will cause a mess, and let them enjoy making mud pies.
when the summer storms come.
Don't deprive them of the childhood memories of being just a kid.
And don't deprive yourself of the memories that you will one day look back on.
Take the extra cleanup time because that is the only real consequence of a lot of these memories.
You guys are an encouragement.
Keep doing you.
Brock Messick.
Here is Brock and his two girls.
And look at that one girl.
In the mud, pup.
In the mud.
Dude, that is awesome.
That right there.
That's like the lesson.
That's the lesson of the week.
Yeah.
It's better than my lesson of the week.
I mean, truly.
Truly.
That's a really good lesson.
And I hope too with Brock,
it's like just to add on it,
bro, pull out the phone and hit record, man.
The catch myself so much
just looking at the old photos
with where I bring it up all the time.
But I'm so glad I have them
because, you know, my brain,
I'm forgetful.
I got some severe dad brain.
Yeah.
And I'm glad I have them
just because it pulls me back in
the said memory.
Dude, sometimes Ruse memory is better than mine.
And I'll get to just pull out my phone and figure out what she's talking about.
Because she'll say, like, oh, you remember the video.
And I'll get to go back to a video.
But man, record it all, take photos and do everything that man just said.
I'm really glad that my wife is the phone person in our relationship.
That's like, aren't the guys?
Like, since I do busing and everything else, like, I'm just, I have my phone out a lot
to record and do a lot of different things.
I know that's usually like a mom thing and like a, oh, this is a nice little dad hack or just a reminder, but I always find my wife included.
But moms are always complaining about dads, not taking photos of them with like with their kids.
Like just getting out of your phone and taking more photos.
Listen, I'm guilty of that too.
Like I can take videos and photos of everything else, but I'll forget to pull out the phone and get some cool shots of my wife with the kids because my wife will always show me photos.
She gets of me and the kids.
Yep.
I need to do a better job of that.
That is a really good dad hack.
Yeah.
That's a good just reminder for dads.
Yeah.
So I even hack,
we all know,
we all hear the complaints when it comes up
when you're around friends like,
yeah,
will he never takes photos of me and the kids.
Jill hasn't even brought it up to me,
but I'm just thinking about
all the pictures that Jill is taken with being Charlotte.
And people compliment them,
like the photos.
Oh,
Sherman,
those pictures are so cool.
Jill,
are you taking those?
Yeah,
I wish,
I wish Sherm would take pictures of me doing that.
I mean,
truly.
Yeah.
I really need to step my game up.
We all do, my friend.
Email here from Scott Brown,
and we'll get out of here and we'll make sure we're taking our trash out.
Hey, fellas, this is Scott from Memphis.
Writing this email currently in the trenches,
rocking our two-day-old baby in the middle of the night
while mom gets some rest.
I've been listening to the podcast since day one,
and I thought you guys might appreciate this.
I'm a fellow girl, dad.
I had three girls already, and back in November,
we found out my wife was pregnant.
We waited until birth to find out the gender.
Well, Monday,
night on August 3rd, my wife gave birth to our little bundle of joy and you guys aren't
going to believe it. Girl number four. Seriously, how do you even make boys? I don't get it.
Is there a trick, a certain position, a secret handshake? I feel like there's something nobody
ever told me. I don't know why I'm asking you guys because clearly, if neither of you know,
when they held her up for the first time, I honestly couldn't do anything but laugh. I was just sitting
and her thinking, another girl, you got to be kidding me.
People are still asking me, don't you want to try for a boy?
I did four times.
Guess I got to get the pads on the third one because she's the little menace of the family
and built for the A gap.
But all jokes aside, new baby girl is absolutely perfect and I couldn't be happier.
Being a girl that has honestly been one of the greatest blessings of my life.
I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Any dad who doesn't have a daughter is really missing out.
and I know you guys know exactly what I'm talking about.
I just wanted to let you know that you're not the only guys out there
who apparently don't have, don't know how to make boys.
And I'm right there with you.
P.S.
My wife chose the name Rooney May.
Ooh, I like that name.
And we will call her Roo for short.
She's never listened to a second of the podcast.
So I thought this was pretty ironic.
Love the podcast, boys.
Keep doing what you're doing and thanks for everything.
Shout out Scott.
And I don't know, buddy.
We're trying.
I love to get a little.
I'd love to get a little lad in the family.
But I do think about it.
I feel like it's,
I would just look at the boy
and see the boys so much differently
that I do my girls.
Not that it's like less or more superior,
inferior.
Well, it's just a completely different thing.
It's just a different world.
It's just like having little girls
and they know that they just have your fucking heart
no matter what is the best thing.
And there's just no doubt in your mind.
There's no like questioning them
the way I feel like I would my son
or just know boys.
Yeah.
I know myself.
I know guys.
Yeah.
You know how you want to raise them.
You're just going to naturally be a little,
you're going to just naturally be different with the boys.
Yeah.
I feel like from my perspective,
being one of three boys,
having a lot of masculine energy around the house,
being around sports and competition all the time.
Like having the two girls,
man,
fuck,
it's awesome.
Everything that I'm about to say is not held in absolute truth.
But I will say this.
I've heard that if you drink Olipop,
if you pop in a little Lucy, maybe a little breaker,
you go to BWTV.com, go dabble around there.
These are things that will help with the X, Y, chromosome.
I've heard rumor.
We are at a place now platform-wise where we can start to do trials.
Oh.
So any ST6 are out there.
Yeah.
Or PT6 are going for kiddo number two.
Yeah.
We love to open up the study on if you slug an olive pop before,
wear a pop a team six shirt during with a pouch of Lucy in your lip.
We would just love to know what the data would say.
There's some sicko out there that's going to do it.
The Azta guy's going to do it.
Waylon has a boy.
He has a boy.
Of course he does.
Of course Waylon has a boy.
He probably already done it.
He's like, man, I've been doing that shit, man.
You got two boys.
We'd just, we'd love to see the data.
I might have to try that.
Hey, good so.
Good so.
Take out the trash.
Take out the trash.
We will see you next week.
Boom.
Summer blockbusters are back.
The Odyssey and.
and Spider-Man.
