Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey guys, it's us The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:08 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:00:27 Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Hey, it's Edward. and Castro, also known as Castro 1021. And I'm Kunky, his best friend, and business manager. And we've got a new show called The 1021 Podcast. I'm taking you behind the scenes on how I became one of Twitch's most popular streamers. We also love sports.
Starting point is 00:00:47 And with the World Cup right around the corner, we'll be breaking down the biggest storylines ahead of the big tournament here in the USA. Listen to the 1021 podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever. you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, and on my new podcast, How Hard Can It Be? I call on my Gen X Squad
Starting point is 00:01:10 from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate Midlife's most fantastic BS. Unfiltered conversations from night sweats to fupas to scheduling sex. Wait, what sex? Is it just me,
Starting point is 00:01:22 or does every woman, my age, want to look at Pinterest instead of having sex sometimes? They say we can't polish a turn, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, boys? Welcome to another episode of Bustin with the Boys. I am your host, Wilcompton, my co-host, Taylor Lawan. He is in Canada for the next month. The boy is going out, his wife, Tailing, shout out Tailing, no free shots to Tailin. She is from Canada. She hasn't been home in three years.
Starting point is 00:02:00 So they're spending some time out in Canada. The boy's going to get busy. there got the whole gym set up. He's like the fucking rock dude. He's got his Iron Paradise set up out there. They're on a beautiful lake, but he's going to be living the dream for the next month. But you got your boy. This is going to be our last week of doing where we dropped two episodes.
Starting point is 00:02:17 So you're going to have Eric Wood today. And then on Thursday, we got a nice little surprise. The boy, George Kittle, he's coming through to co-host with me. Shout out, tied in you a little bit. But this will be the last week for two episodes per week. We go back to our regular programming. I love that. Go back to regular programming.
Starting point is 00:02:35 One a week. We drop on Wednesdays. We will change all this stuff for you. We will update you guys on social media at Boston WTV. But we are going back to one a week dropping every Wednesday. 6 a.m. all audio platforms. Subscribe on Apple, Spotify, Google, all that stuff you're listening right now. Do the boys a solid.
Starting point is 00:02:53 You guys fucking help us out tremendously when you download the episodes when you subscribe, on subscribe, resubscribe, do all that shit. And then, of course, video drops on you. YouTube at noon. This is all central time that I'm talking about. But before we get in and everything, we got to shout out the most durable, reliable vehicle on the road. The Chevy Silverado, strong, dependable, just like you folks who drive them.
Starting point is 00:03:16 And hopefully a lot of new dads are driving the Chevy Silverado after hopefully their kids or wife bought them a Chevy truck over the weekend. The Chevy Silverado is modern and advanced with a ton of grit. A partner in getting things done, especially when it comes to the heart and soul of a pickup truck. The bed. With the Silverado, you get the most functional bed of any competitor on the planet. Best in class standard cargo volume. The inner gate folds to a large step for easily getting in and out of the bed. Go to a Chevy dealership near you. Go to a Chevy dealership near you. Let them know that the boys send you. I think they're going to throw in a free trailer hitch. The boys like to go
Starting point is 00:03:57 to Freeland Chevy right here in the greater Nashville area. But go buy yourself a Chevy Silverado, the summertime's rolling. Fourth of July is coming up. Nothing is more American than being in the Chevy Silverado. Strong, advanced, dependable, and hardworking. Just like you guys. All right, what can we talk about now, boys? I don't have my compadre Taylor here.
Starting point is 00:04:18 What is new stuff for us? Before we get into talking all things, Eric Wood, we got some house cleaning we would like to take care of. If you're watching right now, you're going to see the boys reping a new colorway of the dad hats, the dad rope hats. I'm wearing a black one white riding white rope. It is fire.
Starting point is 00:04:35 We got a lot of new color ways for the dad hats. For the girl dad hats that are there right now, there's a wait list, right? They're sold out. I think we're on a waiting list. We can double check. There's a lot of new color ways coming with that too. Navy blue with the white, black with the white. There's a lot of different, several colors that are coming with that.
Starting point is 00:04:55 So be on the look out for new merch, but we have new merch going on right now. You see your boys rocking. my favorite shirt right now of the year is the Walmart looking for the boys fucking eagle talons grabbing the bus electricity everywhere for the boys in red, white, and blue. This is what I'll be
Starting point is 00:05:11 repping on the 4th of July. I will probably be reppping the new tanks that we created. So we had such a good we had such good feedback with these teas that we have now made them in in tanks, possibly crews. Yeah, there's crews right there. We got swimming trunks. We got button downs for the summer vibes.
Starting point is 00:05:28 We got everything you need at store. Store. Store. com. Click Brands on one of the tabs. Scroll down just a tad because we're in the Bs and it'll be bustling with the boys. Click on that.
Starting point is 00:05:42 We've got everything that you need right there in our store. What else? I hit the episodes, how our episodes were going back to regular programming. I hit the merchandise, the fire shit that the boys got going on right now. Yeah, we got, you already said something about Titan U.
Starting point is 00:05:58 and I'm sure we'll dive into it. Tighten you, yes. So, yeah, Tide in you is coming to town. It's currently Tuesday. You guys are listening. Everybody's flying in today. George Kittle, Travis Kelsey, Greg Olson, they are putting these boys,
Starting point is 00:06:10 like they are having the highest of vibes for like a position group in the NFL. They're staying at the freaking, I probably shouldn't say where they're staying at. I was about to say, but they're staying in a nice little hotel. They're going to have a lot of camaraderie. They're working with college kids.
Starting point is 00:06:27 They're working with the Boys and Girls Club. doing a lot of good shit, man. Shout out tight in you. Free shots to the boys just because they're the boys. Greg, he's a big friend of the pot. He's actually one of the boys. We're hoping to get Greg Olson on the pot. I have heard rumors that Josh Allen, Buffalo Bill's quarterback is in town.
Starting point is 00:06:44 That would be electric. We will do whatever possible to get on. We'll talk about to him on the episode you're about to listen to with Eric Wood. Yeah, there you go. Shout out fucking Jack for that heads-up play. We talk about Josh Allen. Yeah, Eric Wood comes on the podcast voice. He's a former Buffalo Bill.
Starting point is 00:06:57 he was forced to retire and end his career after a Pro Bowl season because of a bad, severe neck injury. The dude, number one, Jack, I would say he's in the tier of, like, Joe Thomas after retiring, and you go from fat to fit, dude. I think when he came on, Taylor was like, that's me when I leave football. He's like, got so hyped about it. He was just like, I can't wait to. He's got a bit of a chest, though, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:07:22 Like, Taylor, I feel like, if he's got to get some, he's got to get them shelves, he's got to get them shelves on the chest, bro. Google Eric Wood that the photos you see on Google are not the same guy. Yeah, dude, dude, Google Eric Wood, he's got some funny because he's got the curly hair. He's got the blonde curly hair. He's got some funny little, he's got some funny chubby bicks. Lives and dies for ball. He was just such a, dude, he was all about ball.
Starting point is 00:07:44 We get into a lot of, obviously, Buffalo Bill's talk. The time he was with Buffalo, how they're good now, how they were shitty back then, why he thought they were shitty back then. We talk about how his career ended, how he dealt with that transition. to dive into that because the man's an entrepreneur. He does a podcast. He's in the media game. He does a lot of really cool shit because we talk about how football player struggle
Starting point is 00:08:05 was like finding that next high, like that that next roller coaster after being in the league. You spend your entire life playing football, dreaming of playing football, being a professional football player. You play it at the highest level. You have all these highs, like the stardom, the fame that comes with it, the money, all of the benefits of being a professional athlete. And then when that gets kind of taken from you, like,
Starting point is 00:08:27 You feel like everything can be a little boring, right? Because you're so used to, like, riding this high. And so we talk a lot about, like, chasing that next high, like, what was it for him when he got out of it? Tells a hilarious Ritchie Incognito story. We talk about a lot of fun shit. He talks about Ryan Fitzpatrick. This was before Fitzmajerk retired.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Our tier talk was top beers. We talk about JJ Watt, Thanksgiving, gaining weight. A lot of fun stuff that I think you guys are really going to enjoy. but Eric Wood was a stud. You guys might be thinking, I don't know if this pod's for me. I swear to God, this is a very good conversation. You guys who love the names and everything else, yeah. Eric Wood, like, he is a stud, but he's an old lineman.
Starting point is 00:09:08 He's not like a big name. He's not a name. But as far as conversations go, this was a fucking banger, boys, I'm telling you. But make sure to subscribe, rate, do all that stuff. Oh, yeah, we talk about a lot of his injuries outside of his neck as well. But anything else before we get into the episode, boys, am I missing anything? guys all had a wonderful father's day. It was my first one. I absolutely loved it. My wife started the morning off with a card holding Rue in her arm, snuck upstairs, got Roo, brought her down, made it seem
Starting point is 00:09:36 like Rue was giving me the card as the cutest thing in the world, and just got me in my feels immediately. Brought up my mom in the card and all the good stuff, the boy was rolling in tears a little bit right out of bed. She had some, I was like, oh, babe, you know how the boy, you know how your boy's on his diet shit, but you know, on weekends, we pause a diet from 5 p.m. on Friday, and we kick it back up at 10 p.m. on Sunday. And so on, when it was Father's Day, I was like, oh, sweetie, it's a little late. And I'm going to give a free shoutout right here, but it's no free shoutouts. But it's a little late to get Brightside Bakery. And she looked at me and she says, I already got you, babe. I ordered them for pickup. Because Brightside Bakery sells out within an hour. They open up at 8 o'clock. By the time we picked
Starting point is 00:10:13 them up at 915, on the door, it said sold out. But they obviously, if you order ahead of time, you go and pick up your box. No free shout out at Bratside Bakery. For the love of God, we would love some gift cards. Since we're giving you a lot of love. lot of love because your pastries are fucking A-1. And then we went over to Mike Chandler's, had a great pool. Pool day, get some raise,
Starting point is 00:10:34 grilled, carnivore diet. And we had some high vibes, man. The boy had a stogie. I was living the dream. We had a little rue in the pool and stuff like that. But I had a phenomenal Father's Day. I hope all the dads you guys did out there as well. And everybody took care of their old man or their husband.
Starting point is 00:10:50 But other than that, man, let's jump into the episode. We get their old boys. you're gonna in one of these or we can just roll it into it we can do it i can shout out ducanard right now uh no free shots of ducanin du canaan deodor is made for guys who run hot boys you can't smell me but even though you're watching me right now but the boy i do run hot i sweat all the time if i get a little bit of caffeine in me i get my anxiety spikes a little bit i will start pitting no matter what with ducanin they have dry ice the the odor is incredible what is it methanol am i saying that right? One of their ingredients. It's like it's like a glacier sitting under your armpits throughout
Starting point is 00:11:28 the day. I sort of got it. I feel it right now. Right when you put it on, it smells nice. It feels nice throughout the day. But one of my favorite sense is that sandalwood cologne. I take the sandalwood cologne. If you can smell my wrist right now, if you could smell my neck, you'd want to take me right here on the bus. But you can't. But the sandalwood cologne is my favorite clone. It's a little clear sprayer, spritzer thing that you can do. And they also have it in the big, big ass brick of soap. They have phenomenal products. Go check the boys out. The big asperga soap with the scrubber.
Starting point is 00:11:57 And that was a big play by you guys, by the way, teaching me about the lufa inside the scrubber. That was Taylor, yeah. That was a heady move because I don't even take the soap out of the little case now. I just scrub myself with it. It's insane. The cologne, the hairwash, the hairstyling, beard care. They got everything you need.
Starting point is 00:12:15 Check out Duke Cannon at any target or on Duke Cannon.com. And use code Bussin for 15% off your first order. Guys, Duke, Cannon is not for clowns. Go get your shit now. Go get it everywhere. Oh, yeah. Now I can say it because we're still in the episode. Now we're going to get back to the episode.
Starting point is 00:12:34 This is episode 162. Correct. With Eric Wood, busting with the boys. I hope you guys love it because we love you guys. Biggest of hugs and tiniest of kisses. Hey, my daughter. My daughter pooped in the toilet yesterday. By herself, Willow.
Starting point is 00:12:50 And she's just like low-key just, potty training herself right now. How old of that? She's going to be two in July. She's like, sees her sister doing it. She's like, I just want to do that. So I take her diaper off and run over. So I just got a text about it.
Starting point is 00:13:02 You, uh, from Tailing to, like, the rest of the family. And she had like, um, four times this week. P and pooped in the toilet. How sick is that? That's all. She's just training herself. Is that the time frame? Like, from one day to another?
Starting point is 00:13:15 Like, Wynn was like two and a half when we were like, it was probably like a little earlier than two and a half. But, like, we started like, all right, we got to do the party now. We got to do this. And she picked it up pretty fast. But Will is just like, I'm doing all this shit. Yeah. She's trying to be like her sister.
Starting point is 00:13:29 Awesome. How many kids you have? We have two, six and four. Our little boy, he was like three and a half taking big boy dumps. Like, dude, my size kid taking big boy dumps in his pants. Like, what are you doing? Our daughter was like, same way, 19 months. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Never poop in her pants again. That's wild. Like girls think it's sick. Boys are like, screw it. My daughter takes the biggest shit. my oldest. Her shits are like adult-sized. She goes in there, no problem, screams at me
Starting point is 00:13:57 when she wants me to wipe her. And just go and look at it and you're like, I got to take a picture of this to send to somebody. It's unbelievable, dude. Me and Ryan Fitzpatrick's text chain is 80% kids dumps. Really? 80%.
Starting point is 00:14:10 Just sending a, just sending him one up in each other? Yeah. His youngest is three and he can rip him. He can rip them. Like something you'd find in the locker room. Dude, even this morning, like, when you become a parent, it's like, there's no more like my time. Like, if you have to go to the bathroom and mom's not around, like, that happened this morning. I had to take a dunk.
Starting point is 00:14:31 And I was like, I guess you guys are coming with me. So I have a picture of my daughter. She's like plugging her nose. And my youngest is kind of just like looking like, what's going on in there? And I finished it. God forbid I flushed it before they saw it. They had to go take a look at it, inspect it, give it its own grade. Like, it was unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:14:47 See what's real? They were all about it. It's weird. That's all. Kids are hilarious, bro. Hilarious individuals. They're just like kind of drunk people or like drug addicts. Like they're super happy and they're super mad.
Starting point is 00:14:58 Then all of a sudden they're trying to kill themselves for no reason. That's a guy. That's a bit. Some comedian did back in the end. Let's clarify that that's a bit. Your kids aren't trying to kill themselves. You know, but you know what I'm saying? Like my daughter will like all of a sudden be like climbing up her high chair and like
Starting point is 00:15:09 standing on her high chair. It's like, you're just going to die. Like what do you do? You're on such a high ledge. Yeah. And you could fall at any moment. Going down the stairs. Right.
Starting point is 00:15:17 At any point. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, you're trying to grab Willow's hand and Willow's Miss Independent. Yeah, she is. Yeah, we're over at the house today. Well, and the oldest are always more cautious.
Starting point is 00:15:26 Like, we didn't even have to childproof our house for our daughter. Sun comes along. It's like everything needs to be childproofed. Like get the baby gates out and everything. We didn't have to do any of that with my daughter. Little boys are different animals, especially if they're the second. Why is that? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:15:40 It's like something about that oldest mentality. Like the oldest ones are more mature. They're more cautious. They're rule followers. The second one, I don't know why. It's like, get a psychologist in here to explain it for real. I mean, Cody, Cody's more of like a way more of a wild card than me. I'm the oldest.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Yeah, that kind of makes sense. Yeah. I feel like the oldest usually are kind of like that. And then the middle child, second child, they're kind of just like, the fuck's that dude's deal. Right. That's a little different for me because my brother, my dad called him the golden boy growing up. He was always, he's younger than me. He always came home, did his homework first, star athlete, was killing it.
Starting point is 00:16:15 And I was kind of like your wild card. And you're the oldest? I'm the oldest. It's definitely flipped now, though. Did you drink formula? I did for a little bit. Yeah, I was like a little. I like came out at six pounds.
Starting point is 00:16:26 I was tiny. Yeah, I mean, I did for a little bit. You a formula baby? My brother was a month early. It was four and a half pounds. Damn. Yeah, they fit like in the palm of my dad's head. It was crazy.
Starting point is 00:16:37 Wild. But you were talking about Ryan Fitzpatrick. Like, everybody I've ever talked to you. Like I missed him. I was like a year after he was at the Titans. Is he like the coolest dude ever or what? He is. he's got absolutely no ego, which is not super rare, but fairly rare for a quarterback.
Starting point is 00:16:52 They have zero ego. Like, go into a game, like, Fitz, you've got to slide today. Like, we can't win if we have our backup in there. Like, you've got to slide, but he has no ego. I always say, everyone from the mailman in the building to the GM to every player, he's everybody's favorite dude. He's not like a party animal off the field, but you get him out a couple times a year. Yeah. He's just, he gets along with everybody.
Starting point is 00:17:16 And everybody's welcome at us house. You know, he's got seven kids now. But, like, everybody on the team's welcome at his house. From the D-Bs to the wide receivers to the O-Lon, whoever may be. Like, everyone's at his house. I mean, he's just, he's the real deal. But it's consistency. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:17:32 Like, no ego every single day. Comes in, ready to work, works a stale off. Not in the wayroom. Not a way-room guy at all. He's not a way-room guy. No. Like, he's got a great, like, chest hair, body, though. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:17:42 That dad bod. Yeah, he does. Great style about him. He's got a great style about him. Yeah. But like he'll drive a strength coach nuts, but he will grind on some film. But hard worker, great dude. One of my best friends to this day.
Starting point is 00:17:54 You got it hasn't come out yet, and I have no idea how. I got to show you what he wore to the Masters this weekend. So he goes to the Masters every year with his dad and his brothers. So he sends me this picture the other day. We should. You can leak it if you want. So there's him and his brother. Just phenomenal beards.
Starting point is 00:18:13 Yeah. Unreal. Like these suit jackets with. teal. You got to turn and show the camera. Outstanding. That's what I'm saying. I feel like his popularity probably went up
Starting point is 00:18:29 even more when McGregor was like a superstar. And then... He was the O.G. McGregor. And then the... The rest are just kids don't pick. But did he when he was the bills with you? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:41 Did he give you the Yeti cooler with his face on it? Yeah. All the guys of the Tennessee got. Yep. And the guys at Houston got. That's like his go-to gift. That's his go-to gift. For a guy with no ego to give you a Yeti with his
Starting point is 00:18:51 picture on it. Right. Kind of streams differently a little bit. People see him, they're like, is that Zach Brown? Because it's like the beard and the beanie hat on. But I'm like, no, it's Ryan Fitzpatrick. But when he got his extension with the bills, that was his like big payday. He got like a five-year, $60 million deal, which was okay money at the time, like top 15 starter money.
Starting point is 00:19:10 Nowhere what it is now. No, not at all. But that was kind of mid-tier. Like, he knew he wasn't going to break the bank. But he wanted to stick in a situation. And man, a year and a half later, he broke his ribs and didn't tell anybody, he played like crap the rest of the season. They go on to cut them, draft E.J. Manuel.
Starting point is 00:19:24 And I honestly think we could have built something up there at that time. I mean, I'm the eternal optimist, you know, every year, played in the longest playoff drought in all professional sports at the time. And every year was our year, you know. Yeah. Looking back and you guys came in, when you guys came in, there was a spending floor. Like teams had to spend a certain amount. Not when I first got in the league.
Starting point is 00:19:45 Like our team, when I look back in my rookie year, we had a few big names that could sell some tickets. T.O. Lee Evans. Our quarterback was Trent Edwards. Fitz was the backup at first. But like, we were terrible and we spent no money. Like, really? It's like, man, that wasn't even fair. Like, we're at there risking our bodies. And like, we weren't even putting the money out there to do it. But our owner, Ralph Wilson, was on his deathbed. So you have other people like, can we spend all this money? Can we do this, do that? Begoula's bought the team. Totally different. Look how they're spending money now.
Starting point is 00:20:18 Like I have no idea. I have no idea how Brandon Bean has gotten. all these guys under the cap this year. They're bringing in everybody. They bring in Vaughn. They do Josh's deal last year. They just redo Diggs deal. Dick Juan Jones, they bring him in. He's a stud.
Starting point is 00:20:31 Rod and Saffold, you know, which is funny. And we got to get to talking a little Bill's Titans at some point. Absolutely. The Bill's nemesis, like last year, was teams that can get physical with them, which everybody built their defenses now to defend the Chiefs in the AFC. And then you get a team like you guys and just run over them. Well, now I think they're like, man, we need a little bit of that attitudes. and then they just go right to the Titans.
Starting point is 00:20:52 Bring in Saffold and Dayquan Jones, and you know them way better than me, but I think they think they're going to come in and be more tone-setters for them. Yeah, Roger's one of the best run blocking guards I've ever seen in my life. Good. He's average.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Just because he tossed me for my life. Bro, he threw his ass in the bleachers, but it's not even as well. Like, I've seen him do that to everybody, bro. I think the only person I haven't seen him do that, too, is High Tower. Yeah, he would just try and make me feel better by being like, hey, comp, I got somebody this week
Starting point is 00:21:22 and then you'd like show me and I beg, well, I do feel better than you're just doing this to everybody. What's the weakness of his game? Why is it past... I'm not here to talk about Rogers' weakness. I'm not going to soil my boy. Okay. He was... Okay, so I will tell you, like, Rogers' conditioning is incredible. He's a
Starting point is 00:21:38 hard worker. He's always grinding in the weight room. I think I think he's going to do really well with the bills. It seems like your coach is a guy that kind of keeps guys together, like kind of like Rabel does. He's got a leader of men mentality. and he guys got all the pieces already. The Bills are that fucking team.
Starting point is 00:21:55 I came out the Bills, I think after it was like my first game back from suspension and I started talking shit to Shaq Lawson, Shaq Lawson. Yeah. Out of nowhere. And the Bills, and this is like not even really playing.
Starting point is 00:22:07 And the Bills Mafia fucked my world up on Twitter. Oh yeah, they're strong. Dude, they are so strong. It's like you want that as a player. Like you want your fan base to be like that. And even for me, going to see those fan bases.
Starting point is 00:22:21 It's like, it's fucking wild out there. Vols are the same way. Shout out Jack back there. The volunteers go hard. But yeah, I think I think Roger's going to do a great job. Aaron Kromer, who he had in L.A., right? Yeah. Cromer's awesome.
Starting point is 00:22:35 I played for Kromer. He's one of the best offensive line coach in the league. He's like, he learned under Howard Mudd and Bill Callahan, so he's got like a little bit of that, like, we're tougher than them, go drive them off the ball. But then he teaches you what I called the ninja tricks of O-Line. Like, grab it. the hand down, their hand down,
Starting point is 00:22:50 to reach around. Grab their hip. Yeah. Like I did it to Bobby Wagner at the Pro Bowl one time. Like I let him get past me and then we were running outside. And so I just grabbed his opposite hip
Starting point is 00:22:59 and just threw them up towards the field. Yeah. Bobby turned around like, what the hell was that? A little ninja trick, brother. A little ninja trick. Yeah. You know,
Starting point is 00:23:06 when I was at the Pro Bowl in 16, the coaches were, I think, the San Diego Chargers at the time. And the O-Line coach was like literally teaching that to us individual drill. Yeah, I believe that was,
Starting point is 00:23:19 I don't, was Aaron's assistant. Got you. Romer's assistant in Buffalo. He was incredible. He was like, all you know, all you know is grab the hip.
Starting point is 00:23:26 So I like, you know, our old line coach at the Titans, he's very like, this is how you do it. That's how you do it. There's no other way to do it. This is the way.
Starting point is 00:23:34 And I pulled one of those out in Houston, like grab the dude's hip. He totally beat me off the ball. Grabbed a step through him. It was like 15 yards. I'm like, fuck, that shit works.
Starting point is 00:23:42 Every ref around was like, hey, don't do that. You know, they kind of gave me the warning, but yards were made, baby. I know.
Starting point is 00:23:48 I was about it. Yeah. Those little tricks are something, the issue with having tricks as an offense alignment is a lot of guys like to use that as like their fastball. When it's like, no, that's a change up. Like you got to, if you want to flash the hand, do you want a jump set or like different things, you got to have your go to every time and then a switch up to keep them on their toes. No doubt.
Starting point is 00:24:06 At center, you can't really do it at a tackle. But my biggest change up was like, and I would only do it if I had a dude who I was going to struggle with in pass pro, but take my offhand and just pop them right on the forehead. That's a big thing for centers, right? You know, do you ever meet David Mulk? He played for the Eagles and the charges for a little bit. He had a cup of coffee in the league. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:23 But he was the Remington Award winner. Yeah. He won the Remington Award at Michigan. And that was his big thing is if there was a dude, he was a smaller guy. Strong as an ox, though. And he was like, anytime the guy's going to give me an issue, I fucking just jam him right in the face right away and then back up. And the guy's kind of disoriented.
Starting point is 00:24:37 Yep. It's a genius move. Yeah. And then you buy a second. Most pass plays left two and a half seconds. Right. Now you got a second and a half to block a guy as opposed to two and a half seconds. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:45 But you can't do it every time, and then the refs don't like it either. Right. Because it catches them off guard. Like, what would you do? Is that hands of the face? I'm like, no. I mean, I threw my hand to hit him in the chest. He ducked his head.
Starting point is 00:24:55 I mean, exactly. And there's always a gray area. It's kind of like at their discretion when they can call it. Because you can grab the face mask if you pull off. Some refs are cooler about that. But if you just have it up there for a little bit, your ass is getting called. Oh, no doubt about it. And like, for me, the umpire's behind me.
Starting point is 00:25:10 So all the time, I'm like, I'm a taller center. So all the time, people get me right under the chin. and just drive me back. I'm like, turning around midplay, like what, but they can't see through you. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:25:20 and also there's a quarterback's right behind you. You have the running back. You guys are kind of in a little cluster. I know. In the beginning of my career, it was, I didn't play the game with the refs. It was like,
Starting point is 00:25:28 you know, butter them up, shake their hands, how is life? Oh, you had kids, the whole thing. I didn't do that.
Starting point is 00:25:33 So I'd do something, they would throw a flag at me. A flag at me. Hey, that was just a misprudiation. Please don't come at the boy. But they were throw a flag, and I'd get it, I'd be like, what the fuck are you doing?
Starting point is 00:25:44 Kind of go at them. And as I've gotten older, I was like, you just, they're humans. So if you're just nice to them a little bit, they'll come and work with you. And now you start to know the guys and stuff like that. It's a, it's chess. Dude, early in my career. It's a completely different game. It is.
Starting point is 00:25:56 Early in my career, I thought I was Coach K out there. I mean, I was all over the refs, hammering them, hammered them. I had back-to-back double holding call games, which is an offense line. Just an absolute nightmare. Sound like the beginning my career. I think it was year four. And I was like, man, I need a totally different approach. I went into every game the rest of my career,
Starting point is 00:26:12 knew the umpire's name. If we had them before, it's like, okay, when do we have them? I'll talk to him about that. Hey, here's what I'm going to do in my silent count today. Let me know if there's an issue. Hey, did you see anything on film? Alignment issues.
Starting point is 00:26:24 Give us a warning. And dude, the whole game, they'd be like, E, get your tackle up. Is it supposed to throw in the flag? It's like, man, why the heck, what did I do with that the whole time of my career? But I was also a little bit of a psychopath earlier in my career. My rookie year at, at Tennessee,
Starting point is 00:26:39 Vannebos, played in Nebraska. with one of my teammates and good buddies Chris Kelsey, who just absolute meatheads. Well, I... The basketballs. I got, I was playing guards at the time, and I just wiped Van and Bosch out of the pocket. Got him pretty good one time.
Starting point is 00:26:53 He was bull rushing our tackle. Well, we throw a pick six, and it's like a quick pick six. So the dude runs in the end zone. They got off a hitch or something like that, like in the 30? And Van and Bosch, after they scored, comes and just wipes me out, 15-yard peltie, big fine.
Starting point is 00:27:07 And he went in the locker room after the game, didn't even shake hands with Kelsey's college roommate. Kelsey, like, what the hell did you do to Vanibosh? I was like, dude, I was wearing him out there. I was like, talking so much trash. He's probably 35 years old. Like, well, this dude just shut up and leave me alone. They're smoking us.
Starting point is 00:27:21 Like, we're out there having fun. The thing about, like, coming, going into guys, like, when you slide and slide protection or something like that, the three technique makes the inside move and you go fuck them up or something like that, that's kind of gone away a little bit. They're definitely big on like no blindside hits or. So they don't even want you wiping out the pocket? It's weird yet. Ben was one of the best at that.
Starting point is 00:27:40 Yeah. Like Ben would sit there and he had nothing to do and go smoke somebody. And you hear him his big hickass, just kind of laughing in the corner as he did something. But they're like, they're kind of big on like, hey, don't do that anymore. Which sucks because for me, if I have like a two eye or a nose and I have an end right here and he's going to bullrush me, like, I want my guard to clean that up. No doubt. Or if he goes inside, I want my guard to fuck him up a little bit because he knows, like, all right, we've got to play the outside game now. Now we're playing basketball and that's my game.
Starting point is 00:28:06 You know what I'm saying? Especially in Paspero. No doubt about it. I know it. I would always try and set. vertical off the ball, make that three technique, think he had a two-way go and think he could spin. And man, you catch, there's no better feeling as a center than when you see that three technique spin and you know you're just going to clean him as soon as he turns his head.
Starting point is 00:28:22 Did you see, uh, Quentin Nelson, I think it was like two years ago against the Chargers, Melvin Ingram. And he does spin move. Oh, yeah, yeah, laid him down. Yeah, what was his name? De Castro? No, the Castro was a guard. Costanza, the left tackle.
Starting point is 00:28:36 He does a spin on him. And he fucking cleans him. Absolutely murder. It was one of the most beautiful blind. knocking places. Nelson does things on a football field for a guard that just, like, shouldn't happen. What do you think it makes him so special? I think he's really smart.
Starting point is 00:28:48 No, he's, like, super talented. But I think the way he, the way he's able to pick stuff up and what he does, now he's mean. But then, like, he plays with a ton of attitude. But then you'll hear him mic up and he, like, picks a dude up, like, hey, my bad. Or you all right? Yeah. Like, how do you switch it on and all like that? Like, I'm either, like, like, I hated playing against Domoitoppeco because he was so nice.
Starting point is 00:29:09 He would get me out of my game. Right. He'd be like, he has the fan. He's from Northern Kentucky. That's how Ben plays. And so, like, the whole game, he'd be, like, buttered me up. And then all of a sudden, he, like, gets my hand and, like, hits the quarterback. I'm like, you saw.
Starting point is 00:29:20 Like, you got me. And so, like, I don't know how Quinn Nelson turns it on and off. But he's got a great combination of size, speed, strength. And then I think he's really smart. Yeah. He does a lot of stuff. He gets away with a lot of stuff as far as, like, grabbing guys on the outside. He's got a great reputation.
Starting point is 00:29:36 I know a lot of guards like to talk trash on him, but that's my boy. And the thing is, when you work. out with him. Guys got a tank like no one else when it comes to conditioning. He can just roll all day. He's talking shit. But then you go and like hang out and he's like super mild manner, the nicest guy in the world. Like he's just awesome to be around.
Starting point is 00:29:52 He's been around a Q. He's a sweetheart, dude. He's a sweetheart, dude. And he just look at him and you're like, this dude's a fucking tank. Right. Just a massive individual, individual giant traps, like kind of walks around and it's just like, holy shit. When they stuck him out at left tackle, he really showed off his athleticism. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:08 Not a lot of guards can pop out to play. left tackle. Yeah, that's wild. That's a different animal playing left tackle. You bump out the right and you got the tight end on your side and all that. Yeah, it's fine. You got the left tackle on an open edge against the defensive ends that are going to go against you. And they just pop them out there and he just doesn't even blink.
Starting point is 00:30:25 It's unbelievable. Just a couple hogs talking balls. I know. We'll get Will involved. No, I love hearing the old war story. You say one. Taylor thinks about a memory. He says one.
Starting point is 00:30:34 You have a member. You say one. Both pro bowlers. It's just some hogs in the trenches, dude. You got to love it. Hey, I looked over and saw your busing hat. And, like, my wife is always cool. Like, we're down here celebrating our 10 anniversary.
Starting point is 00:30:46 And I'm like, yeah, I'm going to go. Congratulations. Thank you. Thank you. And so she wanted to take a nap anyways before the Garth concert tonight. But I was like, hey, I'm going to go do a podcast. And we listened to the Pat McAfee won on the way down. Like, she knew who Pat was.
Starting point is 00:30:59 So we listened to that on the drive down. But we were walking around the gulch today. And someone had one of those hatches, like someone random. And I was like, that's the podcast. And she's like, that's pretty tight. that like people were just walking around Nashville with the gear on it. I know a bunch of people do. But that like, that like set it in stone that it was like pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:31:15 You're going on a legit pod. Yeah, no doubt about it. Oh, yeah, we're the real deal. Like, this is a huge favor. That's a great point. Everybody listening right. Everybody listening right now needs to go to our merch store and cops of merch but it's true.
Starting point is 00:31:26 That's probably in all of our links. Your Twitter, my Twitter, everyone's Twitter. Yeah. It's going to be in the link. But yeah, dude, it's crazy how Nashville's kind of like taking us in. You know, it's been Willow and played here for two years. A little bug flying around, bro. At the time when we started it, it was one year.
Starting point is 00:31:42 Yeah. Just one year, bro. And it's crazy because you will go out now. If I go anywhere, it's like I get at least one. The boy, it's not like walking mine. Kind of like throw up a quick deuce as you're walking. I've heard you guys talk about this over the years. Has it quieted down as far as,
Starting point is 00:31:56 oh, Taylor had a holding call. Must be too worried about the podcast. Like, has that quieted down? I think we've quieted it down in our heads. Like, it's gone. Once, like, no. No. Yeah, it's just as bad as it was.
Starting point is 00:32:11 I think, like, what people don't realize is every NFL player is doing something in the offseason. Right. Whether it's playing video games, whether it's doing this real estate deal, whether you're trying to have your money they made in the league, make more money. I'm just doing it on a public platform that everyone can see. Right. That's what people really don't understand is, like, we show up here for an hour and a half. And I take a couple hours throughout my day and, like, tweet and do shit and fuck around. And that's really like, right.
Starting point is 00:32:35 And we're just doing something on it. That's a bug, dude. I do. What if I just caught that? I know. I was hoping I could do it, but neither of us got it. I'm thinking, I'm going to snatch this thing. Oh, you're lying.
Starting point is 00:32:47 But yeah, I think. Yeah, go ahead. I was going to say, I feel like, like, if I'm a fan and I'm thinking about Taylor and chirping Taylor, like the holding calls and stuff like that, because I've kind of seen it happen, right? Like, the first year it started, it was after my first year of the Titans. We'll catch a strays. Yeah, I catch strays.
Starting point is 00:33:03 But it's hilarious, though. I mean, obviously I love this. Yeah, but they'll blame you if Taylor not something bad? I mean, I might get tagged and stuff. People won't like blame me. They might barely say something and then I'll make it seem like they're actually trying to blame me
Starting point is 00:33:17 just to fucking have fun with it. But like, so the first time you got to see it, Taylor was coming off the PED suspension. That's when we first started the podcast. So Taylor was in a suspension. I got hurt in New Orleans, so I wasn't playing either the first part of the year. So Taylor's going back and playing and he's,
Starting point is 00:33:33 whether it's a holding penalty or jump a false start penalty or something like that. Like, there's a lot of chirps. Because it was very new. It was year one, right? And we were the only NFL active players doing that. And so there would be a lot of chirps there to where, like, made you tight because it was our first year doing it. It even made me uncomfortable.
Starting point is 00:33:51 I'm like, fuck, should we even be doing this? Right. Now that we've gotten used to it, and it's been established, like Taylor proves that he does both things. Now if you're a troll trying to get in, I won't say our heads, like Taylor's head or something like that, or try to make it seem like something, you actually need. you actually need to see him mess up for real to even say anything because now like, you know, the tier ones, like everybody out there understands the game and they understand if anybody says anything,
Starting point is 00:34:15 everybody's jumping on this person. Like let them know like that you're being a fucking idiot. Right. Do me a favor. Shut the fuck up. Yeah, right. That's the big slogan. If I'm like, if I'm chirping in year one
Starting point is 00:34:27 and now I've kind of cooled off because of whether we've snapped back or people snap back at you, now you actually need to see one of us fail to try and, really reach in there and try to grind somebody's gears. That's how I kind of see the development over the years. Right, because you have to interact with the audience or else you don't build it up. Oh, you put it on there.
Starting point is 00:34:47 Nick Lombardi, the Titans could have won by at least 28 points of Taylor 1 didn't have a podcast. That's right. Out of nowhere. It's like you have to be active on social media to promote a podcast. Yeah. So you're going to see that stuff. Otherwise, I'd be like, dude, just completely ignore it. Just go about your business.
Starting point is 00:35:02 Yeah. But you can't do that because you're trying to promote the podcast and the brand. And it's a super dramatic change for me. Like, you're talking about turning it on and off. Like, during the season, I'm kind of, like, not really on social media. I am on social media, but on, like, a normal person amount. Yeah. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:35:16 Like, right now, it's like... A couple hours a day during... A couple hours a day. We fuck around. We treat it like a group text. Like, we're always, like, chirping. All the boys are always talking and stuff like that. And it's just fun.
Starting point is 00:35:27 Like, the whole thing... You're just finding chirps on this Twitter right now? I just hear, like, laughs on the back. What did you, sir? Oh, Taylor won a podcast. That's funny. So, like, But the thing that Will was talking about that's super cool
Starting point is 00:35:37 is like as we've gotten going and like these tier ones are kind of like just riding and dying with us. Like we have our own little like kind of squad that like just kind of loves us and we love them back and they kind of just go for bat like go to bat for us which is awesome. That's awesome.
Starting point is 00:35:51 It's a good deal. Week one was tough. Week one was tough. Chandler Jones and stuff. Oh yeah. Arizona Cardinals. Their social media posted a picture of Chandler Jones and it said bust him with the boys on top of it.
Starting point is 00:36:03 I was like God. I go. Taylor Jones owns with the boys now. Only game of my life where I was like, how do I get the fuck out of here? You know what I'm saying? Taylor came back in the game. He got booed. It was fucking bad.
Starting point is 00:36:13 I'm sitting up there. I'm sitting up there like, oh shit. He's sitting with my wife. Yeah, I'm saying. Was it coming off the ACL? Was it just circumstantial? You know, I could go sit here and have a lot of excuses. Like I think like the strength, the conditioning, the confidence just wasn't there at that point.
Starting point is 00:36:29 Yeah. And it took me like, I would say almost half the season to kind of start feeling. like, okay, like I'm going back to doing my thing, but I was even telling, um, Mike, just Mike on the podcast yesterday when he was on that, um, you know, even at the end of the season, my leg's not as strong as it was. I'm like, how am I blocking guys now? Like, there was never like a true confidence during the season. Towards the end, it got a whole lot better.
Starting point is 00:36:53 But yeah, it was just, it was just up and down, especially, and there was a bunch of issues with the knee. I had like a bunch of, like a toe thing at one point. I had a neck thing. It was just like a whole bunch of shit. I'm like, dude. I can't just I can't I can't I was the tourniquette at to stop the bleeding right and so but it's been all that that's happened has made me much more present and grateful for what I'm doing now wow because like I wasn't allowed to I couldn't even run until like June last year and today I just ran a shit lot I damn near passed out on the football field and I was like this is just fucking awesome it's just cool to do it and and like really enjoy it and it's like the ebbs and flows of football of anything you're really do in life those lows make those highs feel so much better 100
Starting point is 00:37:33 I'm stoked. I'm stoked for this year. I think it's going to be awesome. I think we got a squad on us. I think the bills rip. But, you know, we won the last. Fucking stack. Everyone thought Rogers was going to go somewhere.
Starting point is 00:37:44 I'm like, I know he ain't going to the AFC. He's not, he's not popping over there to compete with all those young cats. It's crazy. AFC's like the juggernaut right now. I know it. It's wild. I think God Brady didn't jump over. The AFC West is a fucking juggerna.
Starting point is 00:37:56 He's a fucking juggernaut. If I was playing an offensive line in the AFC West, I would just be like, just trade me. Like, if you were at 10. You know what I mean? If you're a tackle out there, I mean, they've picked up so many pass rushers out there. Cleo Mac and Joey both on the Chargers. Yep. You got Chandler and your boy Crosby on the Raiders.
Starting point is 00:38:15 Yeah. You got Frank Clark and Chris Jones on the Chiefs. And then who's the last one in that division? Denver. And you got Bradley Chubb over there too. Yeah. Who's a fucking stud. It's like, hey, boys, buckle your fucking chin straps a little tighter.
Starting point is 00:38:30 Good luck. On the inside, it's not as bad. In fact, the Titans play the AFC West this year. Oh, nice. Nice. So Taylor was getting traded. Yeah. So should I get traded? What's the deal? The bills brought in Vaughn Miller, and I was stoked about that.
Starting point is 00:38:42 I love Vaughn. Loved him forever. What's your thought on Vaughna? Where is that his career right now? Well, I think the bills are as good as anybody at managing players' bodies. They brought in my last year, they brought in these, this, I don't think they're a couple, but a male and a female. Both their names are Joe. Joe and Joe.
Starting point is 00:39:00 Sure. They're both from London. They should be together. worked in Premier League soccer forever, managing players' bodies. So they came in and basically oversaw everything, and they're like, no, I think these guys need more rest days and all that. Like, if you watch the Bill's injury report throughout the week, they give more players rest days than anybody in the league.
Starting point is 00:39:16 Stefan Diggs, everyone was like, man, he's having a down year last year. Well, they managed, like, even his catches throughout the year. Like, they only wanted him to get a certain amount of touches. I think this wasn't public. But I believe it was because they only wanted to get him a certain amount of touches. And they asked Josh Allen about it, and he, like, didn't say it wasn't the kids. so you just assume it probably was. But like they even manage this touches.
Starting point is 00:39:36 So all that being said, the bill's nemesis this year was pass rush, period. They had eight guy, like eight quality defensive linemen. But as you know, like one superstar on the D line, you'd rather face a team with one superstar or sorry, eight quality guys than a team with like three scrubs out there and one superstar because you got the game plan all around. And we had no one you truly had a game plan for. You could probably tell me if I'm wrong there.
Starting point is 00:39:57 Yeah, Addison. I think Addison's got a nice little bag of tricks for sure. I think Jerry Hughes, even in your, year 12 is super slippery. They're all quality. He does a great job, especially against the play action pass. Like he doesn't necessarily butt you up every time in the run game. So in play action, when you're trying to go get him, he makes the inside move.
Starting point is 00:40:12 That's a tough. Yeah. That's a tough deal. So you got to be aware of that stuff a lot. But the way you guys cycled guys in and now, I think Jerry Hughes, when we played Joel, had the most amount of snaps of the defense line. It was 55%. Wow.
Starting point is 00:40:24 So, and you guys just had a slow, I think that rookie, I think he was either a rookie lap. Or so? Yes. And then AJ Pinesse. That's at Pinesse. I think he got a whole lot better. I was watching against Miami. Now, Miami didn't have the best offensive line.
Starting point is 00:40:36 Oh, they're terrible. Yeah, and your word's not mine, but I don't agree. Disagree. And I think he was doing, when I was watching film, I was like, holy fuck. Yeah. This dude's just putting dudes in a blender right now. Like, he had some moves, good, nice double-arm swipe, had good bend around the edge. But I think a guy like Vaughn.
Starting point is 00:40:52 You know, they track everything nowadays. So, like, his snap to get off was one of the fastest in the league last year. So, like, that's one of his strengths was just to get off. Anyways, I think come playoff time next year. Von Miller can be a difference maker to get to the quarterback. And that's what the bills, that's what ultimately got him against the cheese. Patrick Mahomes could just run around back there. And it just ended up being a shootout.
Starting point is 00:41:11 And the bills defenses wore out. And both defenses were wore out. You got 25 points scored in a minute and 57 seconds. Just an electrifying game. But both defenses were completely wore out. So whoever was going to be, whoever had the ball in overtime was going to win both those defenses wore out, you get a pass rush for like Von Miller. That can change some things in the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:41:28 It was interesting. You signed a 33-year-old to a six-year contract. Brandon Bean of being the wizard, I'm sure there, you know, there's something there where it's like, okay, if he retires, then all the rest of the cap hits off the books, you know, how it's structured, I'm sure. Yeah, because if he's 39 at the end of that contract. Right. It had to be either, it seemed like it was a team-friendly deal too, though. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:49 Like looking at the numbers and where everything was, signing bonus and all that against the cap. Like he said, buddy's a wizard. Yeah. So he was out there killing it. I know. I love Brandon Bean. He's the man. So does that what you think?
Starting point is 00:42:00 You think if the bills got the ball first? And that overtime, Bills win that game. Game over. Game over. No chance. Both defenses were so gassed. Like, they could hardly move. Yeah, I mean, both Josh Allen and Mahomes were just going back and forth. You know, is there too much time on the clock?
Starting point is 00:42:16 Oh, and now is there too much on the clock? Just back and forth. Yeah, but the way Mahomes came and tied the game up at the end? Incredible. Yeah, but the way Josh was doing. Oh, no, it was all fucking insane. Yeah. Who had the ball last in regulation?
Starting point is 00:42:29 So the bills scored with 13 seconds left. That's right. And they're up three. And Tony Romo. And they kicked it in the end zone, allowed a touchback, which special teams coach has been fired, you know,
Starting point is 00:42:42 not to speculate, but apparently there was a miscommunication somewhere along the line. The kicker still on the team. The special teams coach isn't. They kick it in the end zone, so you don't waste any time there. And then they played off defense
Starting point is 00:42:54 and let them just get up the field. And then, man, it even hurts like to watch. Just because I love Sean McDermin and Brandon Bean. so much. Like they gave, Sean McDerm was there my last year.
Starting point is 00:43:05 I was the first player being extended or gave a contract to in Buffalo was me. And so like I absolutely love those dudes. I know, you like that? Yeah. So I know how much it means to them, but to like watch the mic'd up situation
Starting point is 00:43:17 where Travis Kelsey was like, hey, I'm actually not going to do what Andy Reid just called. Like, look at their defense. I'm just going to run up the seam. Just throw it to me. I'll get down. We get a field goal to tie it.
Starting point is 00:43:27 So. Jesus. Wild. Yeah, that had to hurt. It was one of the best games to Washington. Yeah, I was calling the game and, you know, I thought the bills were out of it. And then they just go back and forth in the fourth quarter. They get back in and take the lead.
Starting point is 00:43:40 But, you know, the city of Buffalo is just starving for a championship. And after the way, Josh Allen played against the Patriots, they smoked them, 45 to 7 plays. Hey, that was a wild deal. Josh Allen, and he's been to three playoff appearances, it's not like it's just one. In three playoff appearances, he has a 14 to one touchdown interception ratio, which is like by far the best in NFL history, obviously. know that. He's a stund.
Starting point is 00:44:03 He's a gamer. He was one of my favorite people in the world. And he wanted me over for life. So this is two years ago. My son's birthday's in January. And so I texted Josh. Like, I didn't even overlap with Josh once, but we work with the same hospital up there,
Starting point is 00:44:16 our foundations, all that. And we've become buddies, but like, I'm the radio guy up there. Like, that's what he knows me. I was like, I'm the color guy on the radio. And so I texted him, I said, it's like a Monday during the playoff week. I said, hey, for some reason, my son,
Starting point is 00:44:29 he's the three, he's obsessed with you. He thinks you're coming to his birthday. party. If you could just shoot me a quick video, I'd appreciate it. If you ignore this text, I'll never think anything different of you. Good luck in the game this week. Like, no worries either way. He sends me a video and then he goes, wait, wait, I can do better. Sends another one that's like longer and better. And I'm like, that kid gets it. You know what I mean? Like to do something little like that, for someone who talks about him every week controls a lot of media and opinion through my social media in Buffalo. And like, that was, he gets it. And he was 23 years old at
Starting point is 00:45:01 the time, 24 years old. Yeah, like that's a great kid. We interrupt this episode to bring you guys sport clips. Shout out sport clips, no free shoutouts. Like, is that something maybe in the beginning, more so than now? Like, it was always in the back of your mind. Like, I have to have this kind of take. Because in the media game, like, you've got to build credibility. To get credibility, you've got to have, like, actual honesty.
Starting point is 00:46:19 Like, you've got to be objective. Like, you've got to remove the emotion of, these are my boys. But, you know, you got to do your thing. Yeah. Now, it's good that there was a ton of turnover. Like, I was out a season, a full season, and then came back. 80% of the roster had changed. So that helped.
Starting point is 00:46:35 But like, they don't pay me enough to be hypercritical of those guys and make hard takes on them all the time. Like, I'm never going to trash the guys. But it was weird because... Unless they paid more. Everybody's got a price. Everybody's got paid me Tony Romo money. I'll talk crap on anybody.
Starting point is 00:46:49 Yeah, I respect. I respect that hustle. But I'm like, dude, I'm up here having fun. Like, we're the Bills radio broadcast. So, like, I'm going to be pretty... You know, I'm a Bill's Homer on those broadcasts when I was with ESPN. for those couple years. I'm calling college games.
Starting point is 00:47:03 Like, I'm not going to tear down these college kids. Now, I'll say if something was dumb or, man, he should have made that catcher. That's a bad throw. But I'm not going to, like, attack a kid. Like, oh, this kid, you know, he's lazy. Watch this. Like, I would have watched film. If we were sitting in the old line room watching film, totally different than when you're calling a game.
Starting point is 00:47:20 Like, you're not on everybody. Yes, exactly. Like, oh, this dude is terrible. Especially the O line, too. That's crazy that because when you watch a D-line, you're like kind of respecting them watching when they do. Yeah. But you watch other offensive line and you're like, what the fuck is this guy doing, man.
Starting point is 00:47:31 Why is he so lazy? Why is he so this? Yeah. But like... I feel like that's ever position. Like, you'll watch guys. You'll watch backers and your coach will be getting off to somebody. And you just be thinking like, you know, they're doing nothing.
Starting point is 00:47:42 Like you coached your ass off when I was doing something similar to this the other day. But all of a sudden, he's doing it. And all of a sudden it's the greatest thing in the world. Right. People who probably hate on like Quentin Nelson. Like, oh, he gets this. He gets that. He gets away with this.
Starting point is 00:47:55 But it's just like, you know. Right. But on the transition to the media, it got me. Like the first time I, I went to one of like the O line dinners the night before the game or we were on the road and they invited me out to eat with them. And then they started talking and they like pulled back because they thought I might like tweet it or I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa. Like nothing we ever say.
Starting point is 00:48:13 Like I will never compromise a conversation ever with a player or coach. Like even like showing that picture of Fitzpatrick, like Fitzpatrick, like Fitzpatrick, like, Fitzpatrick, like, Fitzger. Like that's not like bad by any means or whatever. But like even there, I'm like, like, I don't ever want to like put people's business out in the streets and like, you know, I'll have coaches text me stuff before the game or I'll talk. to him on the field, like, unless it's like a positive thing about a player that's, like, building someone up throughout the broadcast, like, I'll never, ever, ever mention it.
Starting point is 00:48:38 Because once you, once you blow that trust once, it's over. And then you're sitting at a meal and everyone's, like, kind of clamming up because, oh, he Woods here and, you know, he's on the call tomorrow. And, like, and, like, because pre-COVID, I would go to all their meals. Like, McDermen's like, dude, if you want to work out in our way room, you like, you make yourself at home. Oh, yeah. He's like, man, you just make yourself at home.
Starting point is 00:48:59 I mean, my wife and his wife were going to games together my last year, like traveling together and then boom, career ends. And so we're all still kind of buddies and all that. But like, it was like make yourself at home. So I'm like in the meal room. People are like, do I sit by him? You know, it's like, you know, he's going to go down and do one bills live after this. You know, our TV show that we do.
Starting point is 00:49:20 Like, is he going to say something? If I'm like, never. Like, let's just get that crystal clear. Right. Like none of that's ever going to happen. That's awesome. That's a good characteristic to have. Yeah, but it's like you blow the stress once and then like honestly it's like
Starting point is 00:49:34 like as a former player like you never want that to like like you would never, I would never want to tarnish years worth of a reputation off of like picking up a few Twitter followers or something. Right. Yeah. Some guys get off on that though. I know. Some like just going off the media we have here, there's a lot of great people in our media, especially our local media, but there's a couple guys that just are dying to soil somebody.
Starting point is 00:49:57 I know. I just love the chaos of all of it. little bit of like an angle and then make it into something. Make it into something huge. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. Let's get into your career a little bit because you've had like you had quite the career.
Starting point is 00:50:10 You played nine years at one spot, which is rare. It's like we were talking about yesterday with Mike when he was on the podcast. Like Taylor's been with one team his entire career. Like that's a rare thing to have. And you had just re-signed an extension. What was it? Five years? I signed a two-year extension.
Starting point is 00:50:25 So that would have put me through year 11. Got you. And so I was way off. So it was way off. So completely way off. But you had an incredible career, man, a pro bowler, and you were stud. Like, I remember you. You did talk shit like you were a scrappy vet.
Starting point is 00:50:42 You and incognito, incognito to this day, between him and Roger, the heaviest hands I've ever felt. Heavy hands. But you suddenly had to end your career because of a neck injury. Like, tell us about that story. Yeah, so 2017, we break the longest playoff drought in all professional sports. everyone thought we were tanking going into that season and everyone thought I was a dumbass but I signed the contract extension
Starting point is 00:51:04 when everyone thinks we're tanking but like we're sitting there we got shady Kyle Williams Tyra Taylor's good quarterback Richie's there I'm like man we got some pieces like Richie solid like this isn't a true tank like yes we traded Sammy and Marcel and Ronald Darby but like those dudes didn't fit McDermott's
Starting point is 00:51:20 personality and they never were going to like those dudes there's not going to Yeah yeah like they're just not going to see I'd die So anyways, sign a contract extension, play every single snap that season, including the playoff game. One of the only players in the NFL to play every single snap that year because your shoe can fall off, you get hurt, you're beating a team too bad, you're losing too bad. Like you get taken out for so many different reasons in the NFL. I played every single snap that year. I'm an alternate for the Pro Bowl.
Starting point is 00:51:45 Wasn't that after an injury too? So, oh, I had a ton of injuries. You like broke your. Yeah, my rookie year I did the Joe Thaisman leg break. You were three, I did ACL. Oh, compound fracture? Yeah. Holy shit.
Starting point is 00:51:57 From the field to an ambulance to surgery, four days later, fly back to Buffalo. And we, and that was like, let's put a pin in that and just, how'd that happen? Yeah, so I'm blocking for Ryan Fitzpatrick, former teammate of mine, you can find it on YouTube if you want to pull it up. Might as well.
Starting point is 00:52:13 But a former teammate of mine at Louisville Montavia Stanley's playing D-Tackle for the Jaguars, and I just got a dude locked up and just standing there with them. Dyes for Fitz, Fitz, makes a miss, goes through the side of my leg. I'd never been hurt in my life. And we were earlier in that game, a guy left the field, came back in, we were making fun of him. And so I was like, all right, I got to get up because I don't want everyone to make fun of me.
Starting point is 00:52:32 If I come back in, everyone's like, what are you doing your legs in half? You didn't know that it was fucking out. No. So the bone was out of the skin. So it was a communeuted, which actually were. So it breaks in half. The skin stays out there. And that actually made me have to stay in Jacksonville longer because it creates this, like, huge bubble on your leg.
Starting point is 00:52:54 No shit. But anyways, so here you go. Oh, bro, I don't know if I really want to see this. Do. Oh, fuck. Yes, that was a good one. Thick, too. By the way, you're in phenomenal shape now.
Starting point is 00:53:09 Yeah. I appreciate it. That was about 316 pounds there. I was heavy. All right, that's good. Snapper, dude. So anyways, so do that. Go straight to the hospital.
Starting point is 00:53:21 You're just chilling. How did you react to that? You were like, oh, I should get up? I was trying to push myself off the ground. ground and then realized that it was pretty bad. And how did you react to that? Were you freaking out when you see your leg face in the way? It ended up really hurting.
Starting point is 00:53:36 And then, uh, it ended up really hurting. Yeah, yeah. Watch the YouTube video of it with the surgeons before I went into surgery, wake up in the middle of the night, have no idea where I'm in, where I'm at in a pitch black hospital room.
Starting point is 00:53:48 And I'm like, I'm sweating my ass off. And I'm like, the drugs. I just started yelling, help! I'm like, I literally have no.
Starting point is 00:53:56 idea where I am. And like I don't see like a call button or anything. So I just start yelling. Nurses come in, flip on the lights. I'm like, oh, look down. I'm in the same compression shorts. I played the game in Cotton Jacksonville. I was like, all right, this is disgusting. I was like, all right, need the AC down. We need some new underwear, probably a bath. Where am I? Like, like, does my family know? Like, where's my phone? Like, what the hell is going on right now? It's the middle of the night. And so anyways, I was down there for four days and ended up making backstarted the first game of the season the next year. Because that was in week 10.
Starting point is 00:54:27 Like you fucking. Yeah. What is a regular recovery for that? Like, it all kind of depends. So like with bones, once they healed, you're pretty confident about it.
Starting point is 00:54:37 Like when I did my ACL, like I didn't feel like real confident in that sucker for about 18 months. Yeah. You know, like I'm like, man, it's kind of feels weak. Like I'm not as flexible.
Starting point is 00:54:46 I'm not as strong. Like, is this thing good, you know? And like ACLs are so obscure. It's like this little bitty deal I can just wreck your life. So you're like, is it good? Like once that, once they put...
Starting point is 00:54:54 My boy Blossed back there just tours ACL two days ago. That recovery sucks, but I'm sorry. I'm like, my heart's going out to the boy the whole time. But like, they put a rotten screws in my leg. Like, that sucker was good. It didn't hurt. It didn't hurt that bad. Now, you're not weight-bearing for 12 weeks.
Starting point is 00:55:12 So you're completely atrophied. I went from 3-16 to 278. Quick. How fast is that? Three weeks. Okay. I lost like 30, 40, 40 pounds, not 40, 30 pounds after my ACL. That's a good sign.
Starting point is 00:55:28 That's a great sign for post career. But it sucks when you're in the moment because then you had to get all that. And some of it's, you know, water weight and all that. And you get that muscle back quick. But, yeah, 37 pounds or something. And then they put me back in the hospital for dehydration and all that. No shit. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:55:42 That was, that was a tough one. And then I got hurt in week 10 or 11, four straight years to start my career. Did the Joe Thaisman, second year. high ankle sprain, third year ACL, fourth year MCL, all in week 10 or 11. At one point, you'd be like, hey, I'm not playing those weeks. That's getting frustrating going into like contract years. Well, yeah. Yeah, so then I'm heading.
Starting point is 00:56:03 So at that time, all first rounders had to sign a five-year deal. So the bills extended me before the next season, but it was a really heavy playing time incentive because I was like, look, I want to make top three center money. I'm re-signing before Mack. He was another first rounder that year. Like, he's going to jump me as soon as I sign. So, like, I don't want to sign like some team super. like low deal that has, you know, no risk to it.
Starting point is 00:56:25 Like, I'll bet on myself. That's fine. I deserve the money if I'm not playing anyways. And then I go on to start 52 straight games and earn it all, which was great. And then in 2016, break my other leg on Monday night football in Seattle on the goal line. Going left. Smart choice. The defense line slanted this way. I'm trying to get through to the second level in bare defense and the whole,
Starting point is 00:56:45 whole line collapses down on me. So break your other leg. Break my other leg. Money night football. Heading into the by week, too. So you got all these plays. Oh, man. I don't need to see it.
Starting point is 00:56:56 And then you fly back. Yeah, you know how to pull that up. And then you... Last video, fuck me up. And then you fly back from Seattle six hours to Buffalo through the night. Luckily, at that time, they made something legal out there that a bunch of the guys on the team were like kind of hook me up on the way home. And Rex Ryan walked up to me. He goes, how you feel in he?
Starting point is 00:57:13 I was like a lot better than I should right now. Yeah. Like a lot better than I should. He's like, all good. Yeah. Yeah, I'm all good. But, uh... The heroin's different.
Starting point is 00:57:21 Yeah, I get what you saying. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, yeah, the hard stuff. And so, break my leg. So all that being said, battle through injuries, my whole career. That year, play every single snap, feel great. Like, got some stingers throughout the year, but, like, our high school buddies got stingers. Like, everyone gets stingers in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:57:37 Like, who cares? That she hurts, though. It does. And when you play center in your right hands on them, like, that's a different feeling. Yeah, that's a tough deal. Heading into a play, and you're like, can't really feel the ball, but I'll get it back there. It's all good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:46 But, so I got these stingers. Well, they're like, let's get an hour on your neck. Just make sure everything's good. And I was like, okay, well, I have to get home right now. My son's about to be born. So getting MRI, drive back to Louisville. Two days later, sitting in the delivery room. My son's born 50 minutes after I get the phone call that my career is over.
Starting point is 00:58:04 Even with surgery, you know, we've consulted with everybody. No one will ever pass you for physical again. No team in the league will. And just freaking rocked my world. So I think we're trying to figure out travel plans to the Pro Bowl because there was two AFC centers, both in the playoffs still. that were pro bowlers. So there was like a 90% chance
Starting point is 00:58:25 I was going to pop in there and they might not even want to play anyways. So we're trying to figure out how we're going to get a two week old to the pro bowl and it's said by career is over. And you just got that MRI just because you had Stinger history.
Starting point is 00:58:38 Yeah, I was the only player on the team that played every single snap that year. Yeah. So like, so I know it and no one else does. And it was, well like our family knew, but like, or me and my wife knew, but like no one else. So my wife's crying in the hospital bed after I told her.
Starting point is 00:58:52 And not, like, mad, just, like, sad and emotional and not to have a baby. You know, you guys know the emotions of that. Yeah. Imagine telling my wife she's in the middle of trying to, like, well, we knew. Went through and you're like, hey, but. She's going to find a new job because the murder is over. Yeah. They were like, hey, we're going to call.
Starting point is 00:59:08 We have some serious news. So we knew something. So, like, she was like, telling me I want to know. So the nurse comes in and was like, baby, it's not going to hurt that bad. I promise. My wife's like, it's not about the baby. Like, we. Shut the fuck.
Starting point is 00:59:20 Exactly. So anyway, so that was like a pretty wild four or five months because the bills wouldn't cut me because as soon as they cut me, my full cap hit was going to come in. Like I was the second highest paid center in the league my first year out of the league because I just had signed that extension. And so as soon as they cut me, all that hits and then they can't go sign free agents. Right. Well, if I go get a job or anything, then I'm retired.
Starting point is 00:59:46 If I'm retired, I don't get all that injury guarantee. And so literally I'm just like living in obscurity. I'm losing weight, but I'm like not trying to see anybody or tell anybody. Like I'm not on social media much because I'm just trying to be like, hey, as soon as they cut me, I'll come back and I'll try and get a broadcast gig. That's part of the reason I didn't have a media gig my first year out was because I couldn't even take a job. Really? You know, because they didn't cut me until June, June 1st, I guess, May 31st, June 1st. And so I'm just sitting there in limbo.
Starting point is 01:00:14 Like I showed up at Jim Kelly's golf tournament, which was in May. that was the first time like anybody had seen me in five months and I'm like 55 pounds down everyone's like oh you're done done I'm like yeah I was never athletic enough to play tight end I couldn't even start my high school at tight end so yeah I'm really done oh my God that's crazy yeah that is fucking emotionally how like what was that process like for you dealing with that you're a pro bowler
Starting point is 01:00:38 like everyone's speculating where's you're about to go like you're about to go to another one yeah everyone's a loved ball like that's another thing too like there's a lot of dudes in the league that don't love ball. Like, I loved it. Like, I loved watching film. I loved going to the stadium. I loved, I loved practice. Like, I loved it all.
Starting point is 01:00:54 And so for me, like, it was a big hit. And, you know, honestly. And at that time, like, I had, you know, luckily I have a great family and buddies in this foundation, my faith. And like, so early on, you're like, yeah, God, I know you have great plans for me. Like, I can't wait to see what you do next. And then, like, four months in and you're just kind of like hanging out, losing weight, you know, you're like, okay, this kind of sucks now.
Starting point is 01:01:16 And then when I saw pictures of them back at OTAs, because I used to love OTAs. Like, I love to play golf. We'd go up there and, you know, you work out until noon. And then it's like hang out with the boys all afternoon, fly home Thursday, see the family again. Like, OTAs was a ton of fun. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:30 I see them all those OTAs. I was like, oh, it's real. Like, yeah. Well, I'm not heading back there anymore. So it sucked. It truly did. I went to the first game that the bills, like the first game that I wasn't in, you know, in a decade.
Starting point is 01:01:42 And they played at Baltimore and they lost like 47 to 3. It's pouring down rain. We're up in the club just crushing beers, me and a few of my boys. And everyone's like, is this like, do you feel better now? I was like, honestly, no, because I'd rather just be in that locker and pissed off right now than sitting here drinking beers with you guys. You know what I mean? Like, yes, these games suck, but like, I don't ever get to, like, even just feel that in the locker room again.
Starting point is 01:02:05 And that's part of the thing about media too. Like, when you're calling a game, especially calling college games, part of the reason I moved on from calling those college games, like, you don't care who wins. And, like, you have no emotion. tied to it at all. And I was calling mainly ACC games. Not a lot of good ball in the ACC going right now. So you don't even get like the great, you don't get like the great atmosphere either.
Starting point is 01:02:24 And I was like, man, this is like just not quite doing it for me right now. Like I'd rather be in either one of those locker rooms, you know, win or lose. I'd rather be in either one of those locker rooms than stay on this field or in this booth calling this game right now. But I also don't want to do the coaching hours. As you guys know, it's hard to be a dad and a husband and do those coaching hours. That's got to be a little different now. No doubt about it.
Starting point is 01:02:43 Yeah. So what would it end up being like what the doctors told you happened to your neck? What made it like career ending? Yeah. So I had disc and bones sitting into my spinal cord. And it was at C2C3. So like if it was lower at 4 or 5, like Peyton Manning had neck surgery and came back and played, his was lower. It's more stable.
Starting point is 01:03:00 At C2C3, any surgery up there, they'll just end your career because it's so unstable. And you lose everything below in the spinal cord. Whatever, like you injure, it damages everything down. So that's paraplegia, loss of rest, which. function. And so... That's real shit. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:16 Like, it's not like lose feeling in your legs, you know, which would be awful. But they were like, that was the Orion Shazir had his deal where he was face down on the turf.
Starting point is 01:03:25 And they're like, we have no idea how one of those hits and put you face down the turf. But you're just lucky. You're lucky. That's what I'm saying
Starting point is 01:03:31 because they just saw from an MRI. It's kind of like, oh, thank God we got an MRI because you would have continued playing it. You weren't feeling anything wrong with you, right? I know, yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:40 Everyone's like, man, you should feel so fortunate that you got out when you did. And look, I would have played to the wheels fell off. And I get to play golf. I can still work out. I play with my kids.
Starting point is 01:03:49 Like, I love balls. I would have played to the wheels fell off. Right. Ignorant. And every year would have been, hey, we got to go win the Super Bowl. Then we went to Super Bowl. And he's like, let's go win another one.
Starting point is 01:03:57 That was awesome. Yeah. So I would have just kept playing. So I believe God got me out when he wanted to. And honestly, that first four or five months sucked. It did. But I swear, each year's gotten better than the last. I got a podcast.
Starting point is 01:04:09 What's next with Eric Wood. I have a ton of fun doing that. Get to do stuff like this. we travel a bunch, work hard in the falls, calling games and whatnot, and then tone it back and travel a little bit in the offseason, get to take my kids to school, pick them up when I want to when I'm not golfing or on some stuff, got some investments going. So it's been a ton of fun. But man, that transition is real. And for guys transition out of the NFL to have other guys that can talk to, like, you know, we got buddies that are going, you know, through transitions all the time from the league.
Starting point is 01:04:38 Like, it sucks. But no one, the thing about it is you can't talk to your buddies about it because they're like, look, you have more money than you know what to do with. Right. And you get to stay home now. Like, what's wrong with that? Like, what's... Some of your buddies are still...
Starting point is 01:04:52 Like, they don't want to hear it. I mean, most of your buddies. You're right. They don't care to hear it. They don't want to hear it. And like, they don't... Like, your wife doesn't have anyone to talk to because, you know, my wife Leslie, like, her girlfriend's, like, they don't want to hear her talk about, like, well, you know,
Starting point is 01:05:04 and Eric's at home helping out all the time now and, you know... Oh, Eric's got to go travel again. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Golfing and just can't. But it's interesting, right? again. Yeah. They don't want to hear that. But like it's hard on the wife too. Like we had a house in Buffalo. We had family and, you know, we had friends that felt like family up there. Yeah, when you're in it, when you got the camaraderie with the boys and like he said OTA. I remember like in Washington. Did you know, Corey Lichtenstegger at all? I know of him. Just know of him. But we just had a group of guys where we're, it's the same thing. We're golfing after practice every day. Like when you're in it, because again, you were there nine years. Like, it's got to just, it's got to suck. And I was talking one time with my buddy, Amir Abdullah. He's had a podcast on here.
Starting point is 01:05:46 Peace. But, yeah, yeah, monster wrench. He's the president. He'll call the biggest and the, whoever had the biggest, he's the president. Oh, no, but that's now going to happen. When somebody asks, he's always one that I'll never get out of my head. Or out of his mouth. That's crazy.
Starting point is 01:06:04 But one time we were talking and it's kind of like we get to be on this roller coaster, right, with football. Like we live in such a, we're so fortunate that we got to live. legitimately live our dream as a kid. Like, you're playing mad and you're creating yourself, and you just daydream about playing football. Like, we're pretending to be guys in the backyard when you're playing catch with your dad and stuff,
Starting point is 01:06:25 and you're just like, you're obsessed with this dream of playing in the NFL, and we get to do that. Like, the 1% of the 1% of the 1% of the 1%, like we are so lucky we get to do that. At the same time we're riding this roller coaster, you go to college, you're on scholarship, like you have structure around, you go to the NFL, you lose a little bit of structure,
Starting point is 01:06:41 but you're making money, and you're just, you're living a high. And then when you're done playing football, and I would assume it was this way for you, but you get the rug pulled out from under you without even thinking twice, like having the option. Right. And it's like, I feel like what football players go through
Starting point is 01:06:57 are athletes or people that get to ride a high like that because that's what it is. Like we live in a fantasy world. Again, it's like, what's the next roller coaster I'm trying to get on? You go and call games, right? And there's not a lot of people in the stadium. Like, it's just not getting your rocks.
Starting point is 01:07:10 Like, it's not, you're like, this is not what I want to be. doing this just isn't doing it for me. I feel like we struggle trying to figure out like what that next, I guess, high is, so to speak, like what's going to feel like I have purpose doing this? No doubt. I'm literally, I completed the book. It'll release this fall. It's called Tackle What's Next. So it's a playoff of my podcast. So it's like a bunch of podcast guests who's poured into me. Because when I started the podcast, I didn't have any broadcast gigs or anything going. I was like, man, I'm supposed to start creating some content, have some good conversations.
Starting point is 01:07:37 If you ask my wife, I like to do what I like to do most in life, she'd be like, sit around and drink beer and talk to your buddies and be like, yeah, I get to do, you know, get to make a little money and do that. Like, yeah, that sounds awesome. That's the best game ever. Exactly. Like, having conversations like this is like what I like to do. And so, but it's a lot about that. Like, so, yes, you got to live out your dream, but like, except that that was awesome.
Starting point is 01:07:57 And it was incredible and you're, you're not going to have that again. But man, you can recreate like the tagline of my podcast. How do you make your what's next in life your best yet? So like, go attack that next chapter in life, no matter what it is. And so many people are in a season of transition right now, whether it's from COVID, whether it's work. And like, you can be in a transition in life just because you say, like, man, I want to be better tomorrow. Like, and not even like putting too much pressure on yourself. Like, man, like, I love my boy Ben Newman, but like, I'm not going to do 75 hard over and over and over.
Starting point is 01:08:27 Like, that's not how I'm wired. But like, man, tomorrow I'm going to be a better dad, husband. You know, I'm going to work my tail off. I'm going to, you know, go pursue some business stuff because that fulfills some competition in my end. But like, yeah, it's real. then creating a schedule for yourself is like one of the biggest things when you transition out because, man, your whole, even in the off season, it's like, okay, we're going to work out, we're going to do this.
Starting point is 01:08:48 And like it's all on a schedule and our whole lives. Like you go to school your whole life, then you go to college and you're managed all that. It's all centered around. And then all of the sudden you have no schedule at all. So like getting in a routine daily that like serves you that's going to like put some healthy habits in your life is great. But you talked and you hit it on the head when people are trying to recreate that. that high you get from football.
Starting point is 01:09:11 And that's where you see a lot of people get into trouble. Business-wise, because, like, man, I'm going to go all in on this real estate deal. I'm going all in on this. It's like, whoa, whoa, whoa. Like, my buddy's been doing real estate for 30 years. And now you're, like, you're scouring deals that they passed up for like five months. Like, you think you're going to hit a home run on this? Like, no, no, no, chill.
Starting point is 01:09:30 But it's, it's been fun to hop into like this podcast world, learn from so many people. And, you know, part of my, like, passion now is. is helping people transition. And I just feel like as I learn on the podcast, people are learning with me. And it's been a ton of fun. That's awesome. When did you started?
Starting point is 01:09:49 I started in 2019. So we're like 150 something, 160 episodes in, one a week. Sometimes we do two. Sometimes I do a solo one. And those do pretty good ratings. And you can like boost the weekly listens. Like if you're trying to get a decent sponsor, you're like, oh yeah, last week we had X amount of listens.
Starting point is 01:10:04 It was like, well, we released two that week, but it's all good. Yeah. Isn't it for me? Plenty algorithm. Like for me, like I like conversations that are chill like this. I like conversations with pastors, CEOs. Like I just like to learn from people and pick their brains. But if I go back to the bills well, like if I have like I have Brandon Bean on once a year,
Starting point is 01:10:22 that's going to be one of our biggest episodes, Josh Allen, Sean McDermid. But like those conversations don't really do a whole lot for me. You know, they're fun. I love those dudes. But like. You know they're necessary for like the. Yes. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:35 I'll be like, yeah, like I'll get a weekly KPI report. And I'm like, yeah, it's time to go back to the bills. well again. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, no doubt. We are taking a break from this episode to shout out, this is awesome. Shout out NASCAR. No, for shout out NASCAR, Dale Jr., Lex. NASCAR is headed to the music city this weekend for a weekend of country music and racing. Nashville is the greatest place in the world to watch the best drivers in the world at the shortest super speedway on the schedule. Nashville is known for great music, honky tonks, and intense racing that you will not.
Starting point is 01:11:09 find anywhere else. This short 1.3 miles super speedway provides a unique challenge for drivers, I apologize for that, for drivers as they will battle it out for 400 miles of action with the NASCAR Cup Series race on June 26th. That is this weekend, boys, get your tickets. I'll be there a large glenny, spider, a lot of the barso boys, and also the busing crew. We're going to be out there shooting content, making under the hood, some vlogging a little bit, having fun with everybody. So if you're out there, try to spot us. We'll have fun with you guys. And we can't wait to experience the race live in person.
Starting point is 01:11:42 Be sure to tune in to the NASCAR Cup series from Nashville Super Speedway this Sunday, June 26, at 5 o'clock p.m. Eastern on NBC. That's that, what is that, 3 o'clock central time? 4 o'clock central time? 4 o'clock central time. Again, the NASCAR Cup series this Sunday, June 26 at 5 p.m. Eastern, 4 p.m. Central on NBC. now back to the episode. Going backwards a little bit, like what are your thoughts
Starting point is 01:12:11 on the Bill's offensive line this year? Going into this year? Going into this year. I think there'll be solid. And like, Josh, who's your best, who's the best offense level in there? Dionne Dawkins left tackle. He's solid.
Starting point is 01:12:23 You know, he's a little undersized, six, three. He came in my rookie, his rookie year. Yeah, did you hear about that? I got me sticking for Taylor 1. He did? I got knocked out of the Bill's game. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:32 And they were like, sneak at the end of the game. They're like, the Bill's Proble left tackle, Taylor 1 wasn't in. I think he would have been there. They would have got that. Right. Like, I don't play for that team, boss.
Starting point is 01:12:41 Yeah, yeah. And this guy's pretty good. Who's in there. Yeah, Dion's a decent player, for sure. Yeah. He's been to the Pro Bowl a couple times. Yeah. But his rookie year was my last year.
Starting point is 01:12:50 So that's like my little brother. And Dion doesn't drink. So, like, he was always my DD. And, like, he would come over to the house and, you know, all the holidays. He's at my little brother. I love that dude. He's like a kind of a throwback, too. Like, the bill's drafted in the second round at the temple.
Starting point is 01:13:04 He's kind of got this Odell Beckham haircut. And he's real active on social media and he's goofy with the way he talks and he calls himself the snowman and all that. You know already snow. So like at first I was like. What is that like a cocaine thing? I don't even know. Honestly. I don't even know.
Starting point is 01:13:18 I don't know if he's got like a lisp and it was like, you know, he's trying to say snow. I honestly don't know. We've got to find out. We've been friends for six years or five years now and I don't even know. But so like that's my guy, you know. But he comes in and he's like a throwback O'Latman. I'm like, wait, this dude, this dude is. this dyed, blonde, curly little thing on his head, like,
Starting point is 01:13:41 looking, trying to be like Odell Beckham, you know, a super like me guy. Yeah. Where's the outfits? Yeah. Then he comes in. He's throwing people around. He's physical, like physical, physical. And Cordy Glenn was playing games with an ankle injury and this and that.
Starting point is 01:13:57 And Richie was like, give me Deion next to me. And him and Deion started just throwing dudes out of the kitchen. And so Dion's at left, at left tackle, at left. at left guard, they didn't resign Feliciano. I like Feliciano. He's a throwback too. But you brought Roger in. Yep.
Starting point is 01:14:12 So you got Saffold. Mitch Morris, a really good center. Ryan Bates will probably play right guard. They re-signed him. And then I like that young kid, Spencer Brown. Do you watch him at all number 79? No, I didn't watch him very much,
Starting point is 01:14:23 but I was at that he had drafted in 19, right when the draft was in Nashville? No, he got drafted this year. Was it this year? You're talking about Cody Ford. That's what I'm thinking of. I announced that pick on stage down here. Really? Really?
Starting point is 01:14:33 Yeah. But Cody Ford, second round pick, like De Bill, Bernard Bean has not missed on many draft picks, like early on draft picks. And he didn't start last year again. And I don't know. This will be his last year coming up. But the Bill's got a solid O'Line. They take a ton of heat up there, which all the lines take heat.
Starting point is 01:14:50 I'm like, look, like, I get all fired up defending the bill's offensive line. Yeah. But I'll be like, look around the league and just start watching more offensive line film. Like there's not that many good offensive lines in the NFL right now, especially as you go later in the season, because the depth is really, an issue, like filling a whole low line room with quality players. But I like where the bills are out with their starting five for sure. Now, when you throw the ball 80% of the time, no, you're not going to have a great run game.
Starting point is 01:15:16 You're not going to get in a rhythm in the run game. And so later in the year, they started run the ball a little bit more. It paid off for them. But they're good. I mean, the bill's got a solid team. Yeah. I mean, top to bottom. What's the strength, the quarterback?
Starting point is 01:15:27 But other than that? The past game's definitely a strength. And then the past defense, that back end has played a ton of ball together. Those two safeties are so Jordan, poorier. Mike Ahad. They've played... Michael Stod at Iowa. Yeah, so since 2017, they've played pretty much every single game together. So they met...
Starting point is 01:15:44 I listened to Tom Brady talk about them, and he's like, no one confuses quarterbacks like they do, because they're moving before every snap, and they just play off each other. It could be a loud stadium in Buffalo, and they're just moving. And, Will, you could probably tell us more about how difficult that could be if, like, one safety's up on the line of scrimmage. Well,
Starting point is 01:16:00 like, if you're the other safety, you're like, when's he coming back? Like, wait, dude, you got deep third, and you just got to have trust. But those, I would say the past defense and the past offense is the strength, and that's where a team like Tennessee has given them the most fits these last couple of years. New England beats them last year in Buffalo because it's just running the ball.
Starting point is 01:16:17 They threw the ball three times. Now it was a crazy weather game. But now they're trying to get more physical up front on both sides of the ball. I like it, dude. What's your weakness? The bill's weakness last year was rush defense. and pass rush.
Starting point is 01:16:37 Yeah. Like in, and to me, like, the bill's production in Sacks was pretty good. Like, I think at the end of the year, like, number nine or 11, like, kind of in that range. Like, that's good. Upper middle. But in obvious pass rush situations, they just weren't getting home enough. Like, obvious pass rush, like, obvious, you know, third 11, and no one's close. Like, like, I don't know as an offensive lineman, like, we're just assuming someone's
Starting point is 01:17:01 probably getting beat. You make the quarterback miss. Two people can't get beat or else. then the sack happens, but you're going to get away from one, but they just weren't getting home enough in obvious past rush situations. And that's where, like, you talk about being critical. I was pretty critical of that often. Well, like, Jerry Hughes and me, we played a ton of ball together.
Starting point is 01:17:17 Like, our wives are good friends. We're good friends. And it's like, how do you navigate that? But, like, Jerry probably tell you, like, no, you're right. Like, we didn't get home enough. He's got a pretty unique story, too, right? Because he was the first round pick to the Colts. Sitting behind Frini and Matthew.
Starting point is 01:17:30 Yeah, but it was called a bust. Yeah. For a little bit. and now he's really made a home at the bills. We traded Kelvin Shepard. Kelvin Shepard shows up in the spring. I have no idea what that is. Middle linebacker, exactly.
Starting point is 01:17:41 LSU. Yep. Oh, all right. Shows up, shows up at 273 pounds as a middle linebacker. Holy shit. And trade straight up. Jerry Hughes for Kelvin Shepard. I think Kelvin Shepard's coaching in the league now.
Starting point is 01:17:56 But anyways, Jerry's still playing. Their most productive pass rusher for a number of years. I always would tell Jerry before we play you all, because you get under Jerry's skin. I don't know what you do to him, like talking trash to him or getting a little shy to play. You're about me personally.
Starting point is 01:18:09 Yes, you. Okay, cool. Like Jerry's gotten, what, like three personal fouls against the Titans in the last five years of them? Yeah,
Starting point is 01:18:14 he's definitely gotten upset a few times. Oh, you get under his skin. Like before we all played on Monday Night Football this year, I went up to it before the game. I was like, no personal fouls tonight, bro. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:18:23 He's like, I know, I know. Oh, he was like, that he gets rattled like that. Jerry's one of the, Jerry's one of the, Jerry's, Jerry is like one of the greatest people, like awesome, awesome dude. He is a hothead.
Starting point is 01:18:37 Yeah. Oh my gosh. You want to talk about someone talking trash to the refs. Like he'll be on the sideline chirping at the refs. But that's a dude you love to compete with. Like as a teammate, you're like, I'll go to battle with that dude. That dude cares, you know. Is he still?
Starting point is 01:18:50 He's not with the bills anymore. He is. Oh, he's still there. Actually. Write that down, boys. Write it down. He's a hot head. I don't know if they resigned him or not.
Starting point is 01:18:57 I should know that. But I think. Look that up real quick to see if they resigned him. I actually want to know that for the Jerry Hughes. Yeah, because. Because I know he was a free agent going this year. Year 12. Do you guys go to Buffalo this year?
Starting point is 01:19:09 I know we played Buffalo. I'm not sure if it's at or. We're first in the division. Yeah. The Titans got a schedule now. Last year we had like, I think, when the whole grades come out of like hardest schedule, we were like number one, I think,
Starting point is 01:19:21 and it went pretty well until the playoffs. Go back to Google and then go to search tools. type in more or go to the more column right there oh what the all results do any time anytime go 24 hours yeah oh hey back in the day when you're learn something new every day when you're in college when you're in college and like trying to like figure out hey like what are people thinking about me I would do the shit all the time it's so bad what was your last year of college 2013 and that's like I got drafted in 14 got you well we and we had Kurt Anderson Michigan guy so he was always talking about
Starting point is 01:20:07 And we were like looking at maybe taking a tackle early. Let's go. So Kurt was always like, dude, we might be getting my boy, Luan in. And I don't know how close you all were. He's just like your Michigan guys. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. No, we weren't very close, but that's very cool.
Starting point is 01:20:19 He said that. Yeah. I was like, I definitely don't think I would have wanted to play for the bills. Just how cold it is. It's amazing what these last few years has done for like three agent signings and people want to get drafted. People want to go to the bills now. People don't realize is when you say like, oh, why would people go to the bills
Starting point is 01:20:36 when they can go to L.A.? It's like, you're really spending six months out of the year there. And it gets cold for a few months. And then you can book it. You can leave. You know what I'm saying? And it's actually pretty fun to play up in Buffalo. Being completely honest.
Starting point is 01:20:47 Like, we all live. A lot of trouble. Richie was telling me about it. We all live by each other. And so, like, in a city, like, this isn't a monster city. But like, in L.A., guys live 45 minutes apart. Like, you leave the stadium. You're not going to see them again.
Starting point is 01:20:59 You're not hanging with the boys like that. I come home from work. We had eight guys that lived in our neighborhood. Me and Richie shared her backyard. Yeah. His Uncle Richie did my little Gracie girl. but like I'd get home and like Leslie and Grace would be like off playing at someone else's house like enjoying themselves and so like it's a ton of fun and then you're right as soon as the season's over you can vacation you can live wherever you want wherever you want and like when you're up there you should be working anyways like it's grind time in the season like who cares if you're in L.A. Like yeah what was your regiment like when you were playing for me like I don't there's no drinking during the season for me at all. I just can't do it and I hate like for me it's always like how do I stay ahead of the sticks?
Starting point is 01:21:36 How do I make sure that my body's right going in the next week? And if I drink on a Sunday, even that next Sunday, let's say I'm not feeling as good or my conditioning isn't good. I feel something. I'm like, you fucked it up for yourself, bud, you know what I'm saying? Yeah. So I would drink Sunday or Monday generally, not like crazy. Now, if I got like a bunch of buddies in town, I'll kick back some drinks with them after a game. So after every single game, home games, I host a tailgate in my truck after the game.
Starting point is 01:22:00 Because it takes like an hour. In the parking lot? Yeah. It takes like an hour and a half for the parking lot to, clear out after you get out there. Well, we lived one mile from the stadium. If I left right after the game or I waited an hour, I'd get home about 15 minutes apart. So I just started packing a cooler and put a bunch of beers in back of my truck. And honestly, it was awesome fellowship with the guys with the game. Everyone come by. And everyone knew they were invited. So then you end up having
Starting point is 01:22:25 pack more and more. And then, you know, some of the young guys like, hey, bring a couple extra 30 packs and, you know, we'll throw them in. So we'd have a few beers, chill out, went to the same Italian spot. When I broke my leg in half my rookie year, is Italian. The Italian, it's Italian. restaurant. In half. This Italian restaurant started just bringing over dinner for me and my wife. And I was like, you know what?
Starting point is 01:22:42 I'm going to be loyal to them. They're still, like, I still eat there after every bill's broadcast now. Like, after every game we'd go in there, well, like nine, they'd shut the doors and lock the place. And we would just, we could do whatever we wanted in there, watch Sunday night football and chill out. And it was like our own little spot, like, own little getaway.
Starting point is 01:22:55 That's awesome. A tiny spot. So I would generally drink on Sunday nights after home games, but I'm not like getting crushed. But like, I'm the ultimate like reset button still to this day. Like, like, you know, we came down. We went to Ruby's. I have no clue what you guys are talking about.
Starting point is 01:23:08 We went to, we went down to Jeff Ruby's last. We went to Jeff Ruby's down here last night. You and the wife met up with a former teammate of mine, Mike Koston. We went out, had a few beers afterwards like this morning, get in the gym, sweat it out, a bunch of electrolytes, rehydrate, boom. Back in it. Back in it. So like even when I was playing, but I'm like you, like I'd see dudes drink on Fridays.
Starting point is 01:23:27 And I was like, man, if I cramped up in the game on Sunday and I drank on a Friday, like I would never forget. I would never forgive myself. I know. And I'm like such a word. or like a buddy of mine played a decade at tackle in the league.
Starting point is 01:23:41 I mean, he got blacked out every Friday night. A lot of those dudes in like Green Bay back in the day, like sitting in those dudes. Yeah. They drank every week and they bawled out.
Starting point is 01:23:51 It looked like he drank every single day. He had that body. I know. But like I would never be able to forget myself. Yeah. We come in on a Saturday for like the walkthroughs and everything else
Starting point is 01:24:00 and there'd be a couple of dudes sleeping in the fucking locker room. Right. From being out of the, than it before. Isn't that crazy? Alcohol smelling drunk still. It's just like,
Starting point is 01:24:09 yo, what are you fucking doing? Right. Like, my rookie year was a lot like that. Yeah. And that's, like,
Starting point is 01:24:16 Rex was like, real, like Rex's personality. He's, like, his coaching style is to empower you. Like, dude,
Starting point is 01:24:24 you're the baddest dude on our team. Like, I remember we brought him Percy Harvey. He was out here in Brentwood, didn't he? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:28 Yeah, I was texting with me yesterday. And, but, um, he was like, he's so empowering. Well,
Starting point is 01:24:34 he had all these young cats that they, like drafted all these like wild dudes. Well then Rex is like empowering them like you go like you do your thing, do whatever you got to do to get ready for the game. And they're all hammered on Friday night. Come in Saturday. I'm like, oh, God, we got no shot.
Starting point is 01:24:49 Like we all, that's the worst feeling dude. I know. When he kind of just know. I know. It hasn't been going the way it shed this week. I know it. I know it. I freaking love Rex though.
Starting point is 01:25:00 He's such a good dude. And you said he lives here? Yeah. Yeah. He probably be fun to get on. It was over at, Andy LaVitre used to live over there. You played Andy, right?
Starting point is 01:25:09 Yeah. Great dude. He was one of my grooms on a wedding. Really? Yeah. That's awesome. Yeah. The only time I've ever been up in Buffalo was for his wedding with his wife.
Starting point is 01:25:17 It was like July 4th weekend. Yeah. Real selfish weekend to have a wedding. Absolutely. I'm trying to. It's the best holiday. Second best holiday behind Halloween, in my opinion. But we went out there and we had some wings.
Starting point is 01:25:28 I don't know what the fuss is about in Buffalo with the wings. You didn't go to the right spot then. I mean, there's some wings up there to change your life. Andy took us. so I was like, this is it. I don't remember what it's called. I'm not here to, I'm not here. I'm going to get killed by Bill's mafia again, but I wasn't, I didn't understand. It tastes like Hooters' Wings.
Starting point is 01:25:43 Whoa. You're at the wrong spot then. You're at the wrong spot. I'd never take you a place for bred of wings. No, no way. What's the best spot? I love how you want violence against Bill's Mafia. I didn't want violence. I don't want.
Starting point is 01:25:54 You said Hooters wings. This is my experience. Yeah. My favorite spot is a place called Bar Bill. And it's like a craft. Like, they take it serious. Hold that thing up. Bar Bill. Bar bill B-A-R space B-I-L
Starting point is 01:26:05 Bar-B-B-I-L Bar-B-B-N-N- They do it right How do they do these wings? I mean, they're like hand-painting the sauce on there It's the presentation They separate the drums From the flats
Starting point is 01:26:16 Homemade blue cheese No, homemade blue cheese I mean I feel like we're on a pornographic website Right now Hey, I do love chicken wings Like crazy No
Starting point is 01:26:28 That shit looks fire Yeah, yeah That plays off I got my own mug there. And so, like, generally when I'm drinking, generally when I'm drinking, I'll say, I'll say, like, waitress, be like, you want another girl? Like, I'll do one more. Like, that doesn't mean that's my last one.
Starting point is 01:26:44 Like, I just want one at that time. So they did a mug for me that said, I'll do one more. They're like, and then you've probably drank with Richie before. Every time Richie drinks, the next morning, it's, I'm never drinking again. Yeah. I had them do a mug that said, I'm never drinking again for Richie. Starting point is 01:28:03 Is this... No, is this locker room talk? Oh, no, the locker room talk. I don't know what your story was. No, I'll talk about that. I was just trying to get his creative, he was just thinking about, like about... I love that.
Starting point is 01:28:14 I'm sorry for sending the growth of this. Okay. And then I'll get into a good story with Richie because you prep me on that and I got a funny one. But we, playing with Richie was awesome. In 2015, in February, Doug Whaley is our GM.
Starting point is 01:28:27 He reached out to me, he said, and we had gone into the offseason knowing we needed a couple new guards. You know, he would. He was like, he's like, he's like player and coach. Oh, yeah. He kind of, he can, he's able to play both ways.
Starting point is 01:28:37 In mind like that. He's got very much, uh, Ben Jones vibes to me. Right. Right, right. A lot of centers are like. Yeah. Very smart. Just cut the same way.
Starting point is 01:28:45 And with the coaches. Yeah. Corporate guys. See, I said that with the coach. We're kind of talking, you know, we kind of need, we kind of knew we need some cards. Oh, yeah. It's like, Kyle Orden came to the bills. He's like, you're such a company guy.
Starting point is 01:28:54 I'm like, Orden, you've been with five different teams and, like, maybe you should be a little bit more of a company guy, bud. Maybe learn the game a little bit more. Yeah, exactly. Do shit on the company guys, but it's not a bad gig. No. It's not a bad gig to be that dude. No. I just have an issue with authority.
Starting point is 01:29:11 Yeah. Yeah, you used to be heavy into, you know. Fuck the police. You know what I'm saying? Fuck the company guys. But so Doug Whaley called me up. What do you think about bringing Richie in? We had the same agent.
Starting point is 01:29:20 I had met him at a bunch of events with athletes first and this and that. loved the dude. And I was like, bring him in. I know he went through all that crap in Miami. I've talked to him about it personally. It'll be good. I'll, you know, he moved in like right behind me. He's incredible too. His side of the story? I know. It's wild. At some point, he needs to write a book and tell his side of the story. Oh, it would be, it probably be a best seller. What's story of what? Jonathan Martin's story with Jonathan said he was getting bullied and stuff like that. Oh, yeah. They were like best friends. They were like racial stuff.
Starting point is 01:29:49 Yeah. Listen, you know my vibe on that stuff. You should never say the N-word or anything. And I think there was voicemail or something. Yeah. But they were like, apparently they had a relationship. They had a relationship where like he was okay with him saying that. I don't know. Like I said,
Starting point is 01:30:01 I'm not cool with that word. But Richie... You know what? At that time, like Richie wouldn't do that now, I'd assume. You know what I mean? Like it wasn't,
Starting point is 01:30:08 whatever. It's always been a big deal. Regardless, we bring in Richie. He was great for us. Like never got in trouble. He's smart. He's physical. I've never,
Starting point is 01:30:17 you used to train with Richie. I've never been around anyone as strong as Richie. I mean, that dude is. He's kind of a guy. you're just like, all right, do this weight now. And he's like, okay. I know, I've never seen him struggle with the weight.
Starting point is 01:30:27 They wouldn't let him lift enough weight in Buffalo, even, like, truly challenge himself. And it's, like, unbelievable. Like, I'm doing, like, 275 on incline. And they're like, all right, just slap another plate on the outside for Richie. I'm like, what? And like, all right, now put another court on the outside for Richie. Just bangs it, racks it, and like, you can't go any higher.
Starting point is 01:30:44 Like, yeah. I'm like, holy smokes. He's crazy strong. Rogers a lot like that. He's extremely strong. But go ahead with, yeah. Yeah. So Richie, Richie was absolutely awesome.
Starting point is 01:30:52 to play with. You know, we made a pro bowl together, had a ton of fun out in Hawaii with him, and we've gotten really close over the years. You know, he's truly one of my best friends now. But so we were talking about stories and whatnot earlier. So we used to take our O-line trips after the season. So do you all do the fine system in your room?
Starting point is 01:31:12 Yeah. Okay, so we do the fine system. Is this the locker room story? Yeah. Well, this is going to be a, like this is a Ritchie O-Line story. All right. What year is this? This is 2016.
Starting point is 01:31:25 This is January of 2017 because I have a walking boot on, which contributes to the story. Because I just broke my leg. So we used to always go to Vegas with half the fine money. The other half, we'd like take kids' Christmas shop. And then we'd justify taking this like Vegas trip and we just go out there and spend a bunch of money. But like after the season, like you're so stressed out all year. Then you go to Vegas and like your heart's racing the whole time. They're like gouging you every time you walk in anywhere with 10 fat dudes.
Starting point is 01:31:50 It's like, all right, screw this. I was like, let's go to Key West one time. Like, hear me out. Let's go down at Key West. Like, you can leave the room in flip-flops, t-shirt and shorts in the morning, eat anywhere you want. Like, it's just chill.
Starting point is 01:32:01 Like, let's go down there, chill out. So we go down there after a couple pretty big days of drinking. We wake up the third day. We go to grab brunch and we're like, man, nothing sounds good. Ask the waitress, like, give us something that's not tequila, bourbon, beer, this, that. And she's like, how about a darkened storm,
Starting point is 01:32:17 like a rum and whatever? Like, yeah, let's do it. So then the waitress. just like, after we had a few, she's like, you know who drinks rum before noon? Like who? Pirates. I was like, that's pretty good. So then we became pirates.
Starting point is 01:32:29 So on the island. So then we became pirates. So on the island, they have an authentic costume store that, like, specializes in pirate outfits. So we go spend five of us, four of us, go spend $2,500 on pirate outfits. Each? Uh, total. Okay. Um, and I'm in a boot.
Starting point is 01:32:49 So obviously I'm like Captain Hook with the peglet. and the hat and coat and like ruffled shirt and Ritchie's got this whole big deal. And so we're walking around as pirates. We're walking into bars and Ritchie would just rake tables of drinks off. And we literally, I would literally have to like, and people would be like, oh my God, that's Ritchie incognito. I'm like, I know we're going to make it right. I'm going to buy you two rounds of drinks at this. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:33:14 We're all good. He's a, he's a wild animal when he drinks, dude. But it's fun times. Yeah. Yeah. He's not malicious. He's just. I'm pulling a China shop.
Starting point is 01:33:23 Yes. I mean, he's just so big. But anyways, so, like, our favorite times are like, when are we going to go back and be pirates again? And, I mean, we would do those O-Lon trips. Like, do you all do an O-Lan trip at the year? Yeah, we went to Vegas this year. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:33:35 I'm always big, I'm getting the boys to Cabo, and everyone's all about it in August in September. Then October hits them like, you know, Vegas is closer. We could do that. Oh, we all want to gamble. And then all of a sudden Vegas happens. Yeah. Well, Cabo's maybe one of my favorite place on there.
Starting point is 01:33:50 Yeah, it's an unbelievable spot. Me and my wife went seven straight off seasons. Really? Yeah. It's one of my favorite places in the world. I know you talk about all the time. The one time I was going. Where are you all stay down there?
Starting point is 01:33:59 El Pedrigal. Got you. It's like the, yeah, you know, okay. My man's local. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We did that one year and then. That place is great because you're five minutes from downtown.
Starting point is 01:34:08 Squid Road, the whole thing. My favorite spot is the Hacienda Beach Club, because you can get those private residents there. But like, if the wives want to lay out and chill, you can walk right from your place down on the beach, and you're like 40 steps from, like, Mango deck and all that. That's my favorite bar there.
Starting point is 01:34:23 Yep. And then you got the office right there like that. You can just walk to it all. But then you get inside your like little gates and you're out of five-star spot. You know the owner of Mango? You know how they do like the shows every day? Like there's a wet t-shirt contest one day. And the next day it's like a push-up contest.
Starting point is 01:34:35 Anytime they do the push-up contest, there's always like the 65-year-old dude who's like in a baggy t-shirt and kind of just sitting there having a drink and they get all these Billy badass tough guys on spring break to kind of go up there and do the test. Well, the guy, apparently he's the owner. and he's fucking rocked up. And they're like, start egg it on the older guy to come and do the push-up contest. And he's like, all right, fine. Takes his shirt off and you're like, Jesus Christ.
Starting point is 01:35:00 He walks up and just muscles out like a hundred of those things, no problem. Dude, big buff guys are dropping out like 35. Just one of buff old guys. I think that might be him. That's him. Look, that's the cut in the hole right behind it. And it sits right there. You know, like that little famous little look of Cabo where they have those like
Starting point is 01:35:19 rocks as you're kind of going out and had that little cove. Will has no idea. Yeah, there's a clove. I've never been like Cabo. There's beautiful like big rocks that kind of stick out of the water as you're like driving your boats to go with Marlon fishing or fishing or whatever. And right there, right next to the harbor, it was Mango Deck. And it's fucking
Starting point is 01:35:35 unreal. Let me give you one more like O-line deal. And maybe some of the listeners can apply this one. So we would host all holidays at our house up in Buffalo. So we created this deal for Thanksgiving. And this is like, when you talk about catching crap for the podcast, this is the thing that I would catch the most crap on for social media every year.
Starting point is 01:35:54 Like we played bad on Sunday. Like I would catch a ton of heat for this. So we created this rule that when you, anyone could come to the house, everyone can do it, but you have to weigh in and weigh out. And then we have this like overall champion who put on the most weight throughout the day. Well,
Starting point is 01:36:06 then we got like real competitive with it and you put some money on the line and all that. Yeah. I wouldn't even drink water at practice that day. And I get in the sauna. So then you weigh in like super light when you get home. Well, then you're like rehydrate. Well, there's seven pounds right there. eight pounds right there.
Starting point is 01:36:20 And then, you know, you eat and whatever. So then we started, like, posting the rankings online. USA Today ran with it. And so these weight gain competitions on Thanksgiving became a pretty big deal in the wood household. Like, and then you start winning some pretty decent cash. It's like, okay. How much cash? Like a grand or something.
Starting point is 01:36:37 You know, like nothing crazy, but like to a young... How is you enough to put effort in? To a young dude on practice squad, like... Oh, he's going up. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. No doubt. Richie sat in front of the...
Starting point is 01:36:48 in front of the fridge one year and just was chugging water till he gained enough weight to win it. And we, so then we had to put like some gentleman's rolls about it. Like, dude, you can't just like sit in front of there and drink water at the end of the night. And Richie's mom was yelling. I'm like, Richie, you're going to puke. You're disgusting. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:37:05 Jersey girl. So when Richie left Buffalo, he obviously went through a lot of stuff. Yep. Where were you in his life at that point? Trying to manage all of it. Yeah. And honestly, you know, his dad passed. during the middle of it.
Starting point is 01:37:20 Richie struggled initially with my career ending more than I did. Really? You know, he's so emotional and he's so like, like if you're close to Richie, like if you're in his inner circle, like he loves you. Like, you know, Richie doesn't have a wife and kids. So like, well, my career ended, like, he was hurt, hurt. And then his dad got sick and passed. And, you know, Richie has come out that, you know, he has mental health issues.
Starting point is 01:37:45 Like that's, and it's okay to talk about nowadays, which is great, because that it needs to be talked about. And Jay Glazer's doing a bunch of good work in that community right now too. But anyway, so all that compounded on him. And he, you know, put himself in the media again doing some great stuff and all that. But then the Raiders took a shot on it, took a shot on him, and it paid off. And he's been a model citizen out there again. But I believe Mike Mayock, their GM, at the time when they signed him, his wife, like works in that space.
Starting point is 01:38:14 Oh, really? was like, like, was an advocate for Richie, which was really cool. Richie was one of the guys that, I met my wife when we got engaged in five weeks, married in three months. Good for you. And he was one of those guys during that process where I'm kind of so worried about what other people are going to think, what's going to happen, where he was like, he kind of sat me down and had the, are you sure about this talking?
Starting point is 01:38:35 Once I kind of gave him the reasons why I'm sure, he was like the number one supporter. Like he and Talen were great friends. We all went to Vegas together for the McGregor-Dia's fight. like truly an older brother to me. He was, I miss him all the time. You know, our relationship isn't what it was because of a lot of things during that time, which is, which is tough, especially having two little kids and, you know, all that stuff he was dealing with, but I fucking love that guy.
Starting point is 01:39:00 And I miss him all the time. So, so many people know that me and Richie are so close that when all that stuff started happening to Richie, well, I'm dealing with my own career ending. And now I'm just getting peppered with calls and text. I'm talking to his mom every day and all that. Garrett and his boy in Utah. Yeah. So I'm like talking to all these people.
Starting point is 01:39:17 And so it ended up being a lot. But it's your brother. You know, like I would do anything for that dude. Absolutely. Anything. So it's like, dude, if it's phone calls, if it's whatever, like I'll do anything for him, you know. You just hope he's happy. And I know that I don't know what he's going to do with the rest of his career.
Starting point is 01:39:34 He didn't play very much last year to get a calf. Yeah, he like tore his calf. So he was out the whole year. He was out the entire year. And I think he's old too. I think he's done. I'm not sure. It's not my job to say.
Starting point is 01:39:44 his career is at this point. But like if he is finished, you just hope that he puts enough structure in his life to kind of like be happy and comfortable where he's at. He's made a lot of money and he's done his thing. And, you know, he's single, no kids. Like he's, he has a great life in Arizona. I just hope he kind of keeps up
Starting point is 01:40:00 with what he's been doing the last couple of years. No doubt about it. I'm meeting him down in May, play some golf down in Jupiter. Yeah. So I'll get to catch up with him. I haven't seen him in person forever. Yeah, I saw him the last game of the charges game.
Starting point is 01:40:12 He like came through and we were trying to get into the playoffs. and he seemed like he was in a great headspace monster bear hug yeah i was a little nervous because you know yeah we had a will and i just met when so when tayl and i got married we got married just the two of us on 420 because we thought it was hilarious and then uh fast forward like four months later tailon gets pregnant and so we were going to get we were going to get married like that summer but ended up like hey we'll just or the next summer but we had to wait my daughter was born two days before we were like thought about getting married in front of everybody so you know people are more comfortable with it. And that took a little longer. And Will was, Will and I met like in a short amount
Starting point is 01:40:49 of time and ended up coming to the wedding. And we, there was, that's when Richie was. Taylor proposed to me in five weeks too. Yeah. It was very fast. It was a very fast relationship for us. But that's when a lot of Richie stuff was really at the fort. He was going to be a groomsman in my wedding. And it just, where he was at and how it turned out, it wasn't able to happen. But he had quite the experience being with Richie. It was good first experience with Richie and Cognito. All the stories, because he was a Nebraska guy who got kicked out and then went to Oregon. So I've heard stories about Richie about this dude
Starting point is 01:41:19 and then you see this stuff in Miami and I felt his fucking hands when we played at Buffalo and I want to say I bantered with them a little bit about it and he you know we had an exchange and you know I was a little nervous being around the guy and then he was like oh we're brothers because Nebraska and I'm like oh thank God
Starting point is 01:41:34 right yeah yeah yeah we're not got to be in the beginning from the giggo him and I were like well the minute we made to we played I think 2015 we played It was week, it was week four, we played the bills. And Gabe Eichert was there, you know Gabe. And he's like, hey, you got to meet this guy, Richie, dude.
Starting point is 01:41:50 Like, you guys would be best friends. We all went at dinner before the game. And then we worked out that summer together. But even before that in college, my, my buddy Jordan Kovacs, he was a safety, white boy, trihard guy walked on, ends up being a captain, killing it, gets drafted to Miami Dolphins. And he comes in town during his biweek,
Starting point is 01:42:06 and he's like, dude, there's this guy there. I swear to God, you guys would be best friends. He's like, brothers. His name is Richie Incognito. I'm like, fuck, yeah, dude. whatever, don't think much of it. Like a week later, the Jonathan Martin stuff come out. I'm like, oh.
Starting point is 01:42:17 Oh. Like, you don't know that time. That's what you think about me, bro? You're like, oh, okay. I might need to check myself a little bit. Yeah, no doubt. It was wild times then, too. I really hope he gets an opportunity to tell his entire story.
Starting point is 01:42:31 Yeah, I think he will. We have an incredible platform to do that on, too. Yeah, I mean, I would love to have him on. I think it'd be very cool to find that. No, I'm just kidding. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's true. We'll do a joint one.
Starting point is 01:42:43 one and then release it together. We're just talking busting with the boys then you're going to both be on. Yeah. Perfect. Perfect. Yeah, that sounds great.
Starting point is 01:42:49 No. But like, there were times in Buffalo. So, like, Richie, when he's in his great headspace and all that,
Starting point is 01:42:57 like he still specializes in cross-line humor. Like, period. Like, that's, he's hysterical to be around. He's fucking hilarious. Oh my gosh. He's fucking hilarious.
Starting point is 01:43:06 You know, that was back when the media could come in the locker room all the time. And I'd be like, Richie, like someone's going to, to report something you said and it's going to get taken way out of context
Starting point is 01:43:16 and he'd be like, I'd be like, good, what would I say? Good Richie, good Richie. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And he'd be like, I got you, I got you. Yeah. He'd be like, he'd be like, reel me in. Real me? Yeah, I'm like, you're the best.
Starting point is 01:43:29 But he would like be yelling crap across the locker room. Like, making fun of Zay Jones was like, that one of our rookies at the time. He was always picking on Zay. He just got paid. Yeah. And I'm like, people don't know that you guys are friends. Right.
Starting point is 01:43:43 people don't know that you actually like him, and they're going to say something again. Like, you've got to chill. Buffalo Mead was cool enough never to do it, though. It's cool. Everything you're saying is the story with Jonathan Martin. I really want him to be able to tell his piece. I really want that to be able to happen.
Starting point is 01:43:59 He'd be outstanding. I think it would be a very interesting, too, dynamic. Obviously, we were joking about it. But if we were all sitting together, kind of just talking, like we've all, you met him in a different part, you met him in a different part. I kind of met him in a different part. if you're just talking through everything,
Starting point is 01:44:15 I think it'd be really fascinating. Yeah, no doubt about it. It'd be outstanding. How about him and Fitzpatrick both drafted in the same year to St. Louis? And that was, you know, last year could have been both their last years. They're what, 38 and 39 years old or something.
Starting point is 01:44:30 Yeah, they're old boys. Like, that's wild that both of them, like, the Rams stunk for so long, but like those dudes end up playing 16, 17 years. That's wild. What I wanted to ask about, too, when you were talking about the Fitzpatrick and he signed the five-year deal
Starting point is 01:44:42 and then he played through broken ribs and stuff like that. Is that something that you know him well and you see it from the outside looking in? When you see when your boys go, you're like, fuck, man. Like, why doesn't the organization see that he was honorable enough to, like, play with broken ribs? Right. It's, uh, it wasn't one of those things when he gets,
Starting point is 01:45:00 when he gets cut or released or whatever that he probably looks back on him, like, yeah, you just shouldn't play hurt. Maybe, but we talked about early on what everyone loves Fitzpatrick so much he's got no ego. Like he would be like, no, I'd lay it on my lawn, from my teammates. I could go out there and play. But, like, he would scramble on a play.
Starting point is 01:45:15 And come back in the huddle and not even be able to call the play call because, like, he was hurting so bad. And he's, like, can't even get through a throw. We started that year five and two. They give him a contract extension. Our two losses were at Cincinnati, last second field goal. They were a playoff team. At the Giants, last second field goal, they win the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 01:45:32 You know, we're five and two. We're in it. We're in it. I tear my ACL. Fred Jackson broke his fibula. He was a stud. Yeah, no doubt about it. And then Fitz breaks his ribs and we kind of dwindled off.
Starting point is 01:45:45 It's crazy. I'm just derail a team like that. Especially when you don't have... Not the 2021 Titans. Well, quarterbacks, quarterbacks especially, and then if you don't have depth. Yeah. Like, if you don't have depth, you're just done. One more thing about Fitz is he always seemed like the dude when he'd come in.
Starting point is 01:45:58 His first four games were MVP type stuff and then something would happen. I'm not sure what it was. He'd go from throwing like crazy numbers to three picks. Yeah. What do you think? I tested to that. So he would have these really hot stretches because Fitz is so smart. He pre-reeds, pre-reads defenses, and he's willing to give his guy, like, receivers love him because he'll be like, when you have this matchup, the ball is coming to you.
Starting point is 01:46:24 Don't let me throw a pick, but like, I'm just going to throw it up to you. Like when you get this dude on you, or, you know, he just, he trusts a lot of guys. Well, you know, throw a pick here, you know. So he can get really, really, really hot because he's an absolute gunslinger. but like there were times like I was on Rex when Rex was with the bills he's like I know that when Fitz sees this blitz like this is where his reads like mentally as a quarterback this is where you have to go we're going to trap him and I don't remember if it exactly worked out but it's like that's how defenses are looking at Fitz like yeah so smart he's going to see this so can we get
Starting point is 01:46:59 him to go over here but he can just get so hot because he's giving guys chance he's throwing jump balls and then he goes to Tampa and he's got Mike Evans and Deshawn Jackson on the outside that's he showed up in the chains and all that. Oh, shit, it was hilarious. I'm watching that game. That's the year I was out of the league, and I'm watching that game from home. He texts me before he goes to the press conference
Starting point is 01:47:16 in that outfit. He goes, should I do it? I'm like, absolutely. Yeah, 100% there's no harm in that show. Your personality a little bit. Let's go. And Deshawn Jackson's standing over there with those shirt on waiting for him to give him back his chains
Starting point is 01:47:27 and his glasses and his shirt and all that. But I think part of the reason is he's just giving guys chances out there. He's trying to throw a whole shots in cover too, and then it can go quick, you know. those turnovers can just happen in a hurry. Damn. And then he also, and this is one of the things
Starting point is 01:47:44 we've talked about this at length. We actually talked about this on my podcast last year because I would always, like we'd be down 21 points and Fitz would then go throw another two picks trying to get us back in the game. And I'm like, bro, quit throwing interceptions because at the end of the year,
Starting point is 01:47:57 they're going to be like, well, Fitz had 18 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. I'm like, and Fitz is like, I don't give a crap. Like, I don't care at all about that. Really? I don't care what they say. I don't care. about the picks. Like, I'm trying to fight back and win this game. All I care about is what
Starting point is 01:48:12 you guys think. And you're like, I respect that, but I still want to play with you next year. And, like, if you, if you have four games where you threw three picks, they don't care if they were late in the third quarter, they're going to use it against you. Right. Hindsight of him being released from an E.J. was it E.J. was it. E.J. was it. I love E.J., but, like, they painted, they put themselves in the corner. They release fits, so then they have to draft a quarterback. And that was the year, you know, E. E.J. was 16th overall. That was like, he the only first round quarterback that year. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:48:40 Yeah, tough year for QBs. Tough year for QBs. Who are the, who would you say your five best Buffalo Bills you've played with? Is this Tear Talk? No, I'm just asking. Five best Buffalo Bills I played with. Two-Tock, I think's about beer. Oh, is it?
Starting point is 01:48:54 Yeah. Kyle Williams won. God, what a stud. I know, yeah. Rolling ball of butcher knives. If he was in a, if he was in a bigger market, he would be JJ Watt and all that, you know. Maybe better than JJ Watt because he's awesome. Right.
Starting point is 01:49:08 you said it. I agree. You said it. No, I agree 100%. You see JJ's tweet today? I just retweet it. I can't believe he's always trying to steal my shit. I can't believe he's been reading your tweets like that.
Starting point is 01:49:17 That's crazy. JJ's on my ass. Yeah. He, uh, JJ rubbed me wrong one time because Fitz had to leave a golf game out in Arizona to go film something with Zach Brown and JJ Watt. And they cut Fitz out of it when we went to the concert that night.
Starting point is 01:49:31 And I was like down front, really drunk like, F you guys. Yeah. Like, he's totally. He's probably like his JJ told him. too.
Starting point is 01:49:39 Yeah, so why would JJ rub you wrong in that scenario? I thought he had something to do with it. He probably did. But JJ is just such a me guy. He's such a me guy. I think I might have heard about you guys talking about it on the podcast before, but like you could tell he's such a me guy because they can't even run blitzes in Houston because they got to let him do whatever he wants.
Starting point is 01:49:57 And then all the linebackers got to play off of him. Like we would go in and gash Houston. Like he might have three tackles for loss and we'd have 170 rush yards. It's because like he's blowing like three gaps at a time. He doesn't play real defense. Nope. And if, like, you can send a guy back to cut him, well, he'll jump way out of the way. And so now he's completely out of the way. Now you're running an inside zone. And there's like literally just a gaping hole on the backside because he jumped out of the way.
Starting point is 01:50:19 No. I don't, I haven't liked him from the second. Devil's Advocate. He's a phenomenal. He is. He is. He's a player. Great player. Don't like him. Granted.
Starting point is 01:50:28 I like it bleeding and taking his helmet off for sure. Was it? Yeah. That I tell you who the real hero was of that Houston defense was Cushing. Yeah. The real hero. Studd. Yeah, he is.
Starting point is 01:50:40 Man's man. Dude, he did a pod on Brian Peters's podcast. Yeah. It's pretty badass. Is it? Yeah, it's pretty cool. He's like one of those dudes. You're just like, hey, this is a fucking boy.
Starting point is 01:50:50 You know what I'm saying? We, uh, he came on a visit to Louisville and, uh, we got him. I don't, I don't know that he drank a whole lot in high school, but he drank on his Louisville visit and he turned up. Oh, yeah, he's a New Jersey cat. I mean, those dudes are fucking crazy. Yeah. Like he's a DeFranco boy.
Starting point is 01:51:05 He's like, uh, Joe DeFranco's like a trainer. well-known trainer out in the northeast. That's against Cleveland. Fitz did a Photoshop. He ran in that dude's face without a helmet on. Fitz did a Photoshop of his face on Cushing's body, but it's like a perfect Photoshop. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:51:19 It is hilarious. Fitz really like that. That's hilarious. Kyle Williams. Kyle Williams. I mean, I played one year with T.O. He's a Hallfamer. Shady was a stud.
Starting point is 01:51:30 Smart, dude. He didn't give a fuck about Pro Bowls or nothing, huh? Richie was telling me that he made the Pro Bowl. He's like, congrats. the locker room. She'd be like, man, I'm going to fuck about that. Just kind of like, like, doesn't give a shit. Shady wants to win games and he wants to show out on Sundays.
Starting point is 01:51:46 Yeah. And, like, he's so smart. It's unbelievable. Like, he could sit there on his phone and meetings. He knows everything going on. He'll never mess something up. And one time I, like, I built a lot of trust with Shady when I did this. And we've stayed close buddies.
Starting point is 01:52:00 But he was on his phone one day. Well, one of the coaches said some to one of the running backs. And he was like, well, I thought. thought we could and like pointed over at Shady. Oh, shit. And I was like, shut your mouth, rookie. Like, that dude's been in the league. That dude will be a Hall of Famer potentially.
Starting point is 01:52:16 Like, you've done nothing for us. I was like, I just went off on him. Went off on him. Oh, yeah. That's crazy. She was on his phone on a meeting. That's crazy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:52:26 He was like that. It was always incredible, too. Bless you. Thank you. Man, it's hard to say. Because, you know, he wins two super balls at the end of his career, but he wasn't active for either the Super Bowls. It would be close.
Starting point is 01:52:39 It would be a really close call. But Shady was an absolute stud. It was incredible. I could just carry the ball like that and never fumble. I know. He carried it like he was. You know how all the coaches are. Like, oh, he's a fumbler, so they're showing tape.
Starting point is 01:52:51 But if they haven't fumble like Shady and he's a fumble, he just doesn't know it yet, and he's just carrying it out to the side. He does. That man never fumbled. He holds it like, who was the dude in the longest yard? Nelly? Yeah. Least amount of fumbles per carry over the 10-year stretch he played.
Starting point is 01:53:06 That's crazy. That is crazy. Up to a certain amount of carries or whatever. Look at that ball. Let me get that fucking ball. LaShawn McCoy. Fred Jackson. Fred Jackson.
Starting point is 01:53:16 I mean, Fred Jackson is one of my favorite teammates of all time. Really? Absolute stud. Shoot, who would be the last one? Who did I play with towards the end? Like Tredavius White, he was a rookie my last year. Absolute stud. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:53:30 Yeah, he's a monster. Probably leaving somebody out. Richie. I mean, Richie, really, really good player. Yeah. You know. Which he's on, which he's, that's it. You play with the, what's his name?
Starting point is 01:53:38 Is it Lee Smith? Lee Smith. Dude, I know you guys. I know you guys were stories about Lee Smith. We. Who doesn't? Anytime I go to a locker room, they play with Lee Smith, Lee Smith has got I don't know even know who Lee Smith is.
Starting point is 01:53:49 Lee Smith's just like old school throwback tight in. He's in Tennessee, right? Yeah, he's in Knoxville. Dude, we love that one. I'm telling you, I've heard he's got. He played last year for the Falcons. Here's how loved Lee is. Like last year was going to be Lee's last game.
Starting point is 01:54:03 So we do a dinner before the Falcons. Hopkins Bill's game last year, night before the game. It's like a private little deal with this Italian spot up in Buffalo. Your Italian spot? My second Italian spot. I got you. Not too loyal. How's the family don't? But Arthur Smith
Starting point is 01:54:19 shows up, their GM, both starting quarterbacks. Legendary head coach. Oh, he's awesome. Kyle Pitts, Beasley, Knox, I mean, literally, it was like a pro ball and coaching staff like meeting at this Italian spot the night before the game all for Lee and it was just like the coolest environment you know like for me
Starting point is 01:54:40 i had one of my buddies with me from louisville uh who was in town for the game last year and we left and i was like man that night was good for my soul like just to be around like a bunch of dudes talking ball and like knowing you know like a bunch of dudes from both teams just talking ball night before the game i was like man i missed that crap but yeah but lee is an animal but we found out early on that like we're cut a little too much from the same cloth like we both have that like go gene and we had one really late night together and the next day. This was during the spring. We're like,
Starting point is 01:55:08 I don't think we can hang out that often, bud. Yeah. Oh, really? Yeah, we're like super close still this day. But I was like, man, we got to be really careful. Like, because we both have that like. So I think both of, I think everyone knows about this in both of our households.
Starting point is 01:55:25 We get really drunk one night. Lee spends the night at my house. I wake up in the morning. I can't find my phone. And I don't care how drunk I get it. Like, I'm going to plug my phone in next to the bed and go to sleep. Yeah. Wake up.
Starting point is 01:55:33 It's not there. I'm like, where the hell's my phone? I'm looking all over for it. I look under my bed and it's like in the middle of the frame. Well, I have to like move the whole bed frame. It's not like you can just lift it up. So it's dead. As soon as I plug it in, my mom's calling.
Starting point is 01:55:47 It's like 9.30 in the morning. I was like, what the hell is going on? Oh, I was calling. She goes, are you okay? And I go, yeah, well, and he goes, Lee Smith. She goes, Lee Smith called me at 4 o'clock in the morning to tell me that you guys got over served, but everyone's okay. And my mom stays up all night, just die.
Starting point is 01:56:05 me over and over and over. And he said he, he has his wife saying in his phone as like mama. He thought he was calling Leslie. I was like, well, why the hell would you call Leslie? Yeah, yeah. Why would you do that? Oh my gosh. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:56:20 At least, is this guy, wait, how long was his career? He just retired. But how long? 12 years or something? 12 years? Blocking tight in. Oh, just a grinder. Yeah, just a grinder. But I hear just all-time stories.
Starting point is 01:56:30 Like around the building or around the locker room, you probably, everybody. Everybody. We'll let him tell him tell his tales. He can come on. Yeah. He's invited. Shall we do the tier talk?
Starting point is 01:56:41 So we're going to transition and do a segment we call Tier Talk. We get a, I think it's beers. We talk, we're talking beers. We're going to have all these beers in front of us and we're going to rate him, whether we want to put them in a tier one category, tier two, tier three. You don't have the best beer on here. You don't have Miller Light on there. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 01:56:59 Yeah, what a. Oh, it's just a guideline now. Okay. So we see the beer, so we know beers. Nice, hey, boss. I'm a Miller-like guy. Second blue light, but it's all good. Your Miller Light, like, a top tier?
Starting point is 01:57:13 Miller Light's like my favorite drinking light beer. Gotcha. But I'm not having one if I'm, like, only having one. I'm having one if we're having, like, 10. Yeah. I'm butt-heavy all the way is my two. Oh, you really? I respect that.
Starting point is 01:57:25 Is that just because of the logo, or that's just, like, how you roll? Both, I guess. I mean, they do a great job branding. They've obviously got me sold as an all-in fan, but Bud Heavy is like my favorite go-to. Vacation beer, I'm going, Corona Light. Yeah, see, I, like, sometimes it's just got that skunk. It's got that skunk. It's got that skunk taste.
Starting point is 01:57:45 It sounds like pot. It's not a bad deal. What about you? My number one tier one? Yeah. It's got to be Bud Light. Uh-huh. I'm sponsored, baby.
Starting point is 01:57:56 See, for me, that's pretty low down the list for me. Really? I think Bud Light. I think Bud Light gives me a headache. Delicious. Ham's is my tier two. a close tier too, but Bud Light takes the cake for me. Takes the cake.
Starting point is 01:58:08 Yeah, Bud Light's, I think Soul is number three for me. I love Soul. I like Mickelope Ultra, dude. Maybe that might not be a popular opinion, but I like me a nice. You're 10 loading. You know what I'm loading, dude. I'm watching my calories, man. If I'm at a place that's Anheuser-Busch, I'm going Mick Ultra over Bud Light.
Starting point is 01:58:27 That's okay. All right. Sorry about this point. Yeah, I mean, one that's not on here that I love. Blue Moon. Yeah, with an orange slice. Yes, fire. I like a blue moon.
Starting point is 01:58:37 So you're liking that. Yeah, I'm going. So what your tier one is. New one, Miller Light. Miller Light. Tier two, blue light. Okay. A little bad blue.
Starting point is 01:58:49 Yeah. Tier three, I'm going Stella. Like for like having like one or two. Yeah. Paine's up Miller High Life when I had those minis earlier today. Isn't Stella like I really give them away at the Ayrton down here? Does it? Stella?
Starting point is 01:59:05 Yep. Yep. Four, Chronalite, five, yingling. Yingling's like a winter beer for me.
Starting point is 01:59:15 It's good. It's like a winter beer, winter beer. Like winter golf, winter golf. Is beer your go-to drink? I like, I like,
Starting point is 01:59:23 crushes beers, listen to him. I like, I like beer if we're tying one on. Yeah. But I'm not just having like one. Like, if I'm doing that,
Starting point is 01:59:32 you know, in Kentucky, it's like bourbon. But I've gotten into tequila. I love tequila. It's the cleanest. Gets out of your system real quick.
Starting point is 01:59:40 Like, Clazé Azul is my favorite. Like, I just bought a barrel of glands. Yes. Is it the one that dings at the top? It's a very nice. I heard there's a lot of preservatives in it though. Really?
Starting point is 01:59:48 Yeah, that's what I was told in Cabo. Wow. Yeah, one of the bartenders, like, you can have this if you want, but there's a lot of preserves in this. What was he said? He said, Kossamikos. See, I drink a lot of Kossamigos.
Starting point is 01:59:58 Yeah, he said, the best one to have, apparently. Yeah, that's what I was having last night. A lot of people do that. Have you had, we just had middle in on, what's there's insolito? Mm-mm. They're tequila. It's a really good tequila.
Starting point is 02:00:09 They have three different kinds. And then Thomas Red has one, too. I forget what it was called. George Strait's got one now. Everyone's got a tequila. That's pretty good. Yeah. He's got tequila?
Starting point is 02:00:21 Yeah. What's it called? I'll have you know. Almost. And I was the biggest. What are your five tiers? My five tier would be Bud Light, Tier 1. Tier 1, tier 2 would be Ham's light.
Starting point is 02:00:38 Three is probably soul for Corona. And then I do mess with DeSeki's, but I like... The Sekees' amber is solid. See, that's too dark for me. I don't like that. DeSciis is solid, but I think I kind of like that blue moon vibe. Blue moon, I like the blue moon. I like the orange. I kind of like it.
Starting point is 02:01:01 But I'm not a huge beer guy. But I'm drinking tequila. Like, I like ranch water. Tequila water with lime juice. You are a big tequila guy. Yeah. He's always a tequila guy. But one of my favorite things to drink for sure, like,
Starting point is 02:01:10 if I'm having like a cocktail or something like that, these things right here. This, uh, this whistle pig stuff is unreal. You put that over ice. It's really good. Where is that made? Where is it made in Vermont? Okay. Um.
Starting point is 02:01:27 It's pretty, no, it's really good. You chill that. You put that on, uh, on the rocks. It's really good. I'll check that out. An alcohol. It's good. It's good whiskey.
Starting point is 02:01:35 It's a really good whiskey mixer drink. I'm going butt heavy. Oh, really? It's like that for you? Seriously. My man's nostrils just had a fit. I'm going to go butt heavy. Blue Moon.
Starting point is 02:01:55 McLaughulatra. Coors Light. Sam again? Sam again? Yeah. Bud heavy. What? Blue moon
Starting point is 02:02:10 What Mick Ultra What Coors Light What What? What? Huh?
Starting point is 02:02:21 Tequila sunrise Then I'll say Natty Light man Hey That's a sweeper, bro Natty Light Yeah you got like Nettie light
Starting point is 02:02:42 It's a lot like people get chirped a lot for this, but if I'm at a local spot, I'm trying the local IPAs. Yeah. You know what I mean? I don't know what IPA stands for. Me neither.
Starting point is 02:02:51 Indian pale ale. Yeah, I had to get that out there before. Jack taught me. What are your guys? I know Jack, you guys talk about... I'm a Coors Light guy. Number one, two would probably be Modelo. Love a good Mexican ale.
Starting point is 02:03:13 Even throw Ticate in there. Oh, Ticate. I forgot about that. Land Sharks, great on the beach. That is a good one. I do like the Sierra Nevada down there because I made this list, so I threw that one in there. And Craig, I'm a big Mexican ale guy.
Starting point is 02:03:29 That with a lime just never doesn't do it for me. Is that your list too, G? You with that? You're just not in your head. Yeah, it'd probably be like a chorus banquet or a Mexican beer. That's about it. Gotcha. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:03:41 What about you? You big Mexican ale guy? Not really. What, he's Hispanic. I would be. I was watered if that was stereotype. Number one for me
Starting point is 02:03:51 would probably be Landshark, yingling light, Dosekis, tecate, and Mikolo Bolter at the end. JP, you don't drink,
Starting point is 02:04:02 but you can go ahead and... Give us your favorite sodas, J.P. Number one, O'Dules. No one, O'Dul's. Bush Light. Bush Light. Hey, Bush Light does
Starting point is 02:04:15 Lach. Hineken Zeros. Coors Edge. Core's edge. You just keep giving him his list. I had a buddy that quit drinking recently, so I know all the N.A. Vars. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:04:26 When we have to pick up with the store. Platinum's. What else? Have extra alcohol, don't they? Yeah, 6%. JP, probably don't know that, though. I didn't. You don't drink, for real?
Starting point is 02:04:37 Just tequila. Just tequila, man. Right. We got hammered in Ann Arbor. What am I telling you? That's right. Hey, JP got prunk in Ann Arbor. We did a little spring.
Starting point is 02:04:46 tour. Yeah. It was incredible. And we got after it in Nebraska. Was it a beer in your hand or a tequila? No, tequila shots. It would be, no, because, oh, yeah, that's right, because we'd give you one and we had an extra. You'd always be an extra. Yeah. We had always been an extra. So we got after it in Nebraska. We had a great, we had a great time at all the spots. We didn't get to get after it in Tennessee just because there was a day trip.
Starting point is 02:05:07 He said Nebraska. What? You're talking about Michigan? My fault, Tennessee. We didn't get to get after it. I'm saying, but you said we had a great time. Nebraska. You're talking about Michigan the night. We all went out. Right, right, right. But I'm saying we, I'm just saying we got after a little bit of Nebraska, too. We're at Michigan. We have a great time in Michigan.
Starting point is 02:05:24 Yeah. And Taylor pulls me to the side. He's like, hey, man, you know, I've been looking at JP. Like, I think he got up on us last week. Like, we're all a little hungover. JP, I think he was sauce and every other shot. So we got to get him. I do believe that. He's like, we got to get him fucked up. And I, yeah, and I agreed with him. I'm like, yeah, bro, we got to get JP sauce, bro. So every time we order, every time we order a drink. there would be an extra shot. And it would always be like, hey, JP. And then we started, Jay-P, J-P, J-B!
Starting point is 02:05:54 And I'm talking, the bar was involved and everything. And J-P. Just getting into it. We got him slaughtered, bro. We'll take advantage of me later that night. Yeah, I did, you know. That's crazy. He wanted the leftovers.
Starting point is 02:06:04 I was like, you got to work for these leftovers. Now, come on in. Oh, dude, that you got, J-P. Hey, that was a great time. Now, Ann Arbor was so much fun. Dude, it was, man. The Brassel was fun, too, but it was on spring break. Yeah, it would have been way more fun.
Starting point is 02:06:18 I've thrown shots on the floor at a bar before. Oh, 100%. Like, I know where light beer is going to take me. That's why I say, like, going to a concert tonight, like, I'll just drink light beer. I know exactly where it's going to take me. I know I'm not going to make a fool of myself. And you get to a bar and, you know, you guys know,
Starting point is 02:06:32 like when you're playing ball and everyone's like, oh, let me buy you a shot. And Buffalo, people love, like, it's all like a shot in a beer, shot in a beer, shot in a beer. Yeah. Just see you later. Or you, like, hit him with that. Let's be clear, I never threw my shots on the ground.
Starting point is 02:06:44 You're lying like a rug on a rich man's floor, Taylor Swift. You know. You for sure did. Yeah, he was doing something. He was babysitting in drinks or something because he was not. The heavyweight. Okay.
Starting point is 02:06:57 Clearly. Bro. And he was running from bar to bar. Running, sprinting with the other football players. Me with all the alignment from Michigan came out with us. So we all have a good time, like, getting after. And we were at this place called scorekeepers, and we go to the brown jug, which is like two blocks away.
Starting point is 02:07:15 Steve. It was a blast. And we go back to the brownie. and juggling. We're getting an Uber and all of a sudden we see JP fucking raining. It's raining. Raining outside. He's fucking sprinting on that. And there's someone goes, hey, who's got JP? And one of the old line go, we got him. And he fucking
Starting point is 02:07:28 messed like three minutes after the car. We got out of the car. We're getting rides home and he's taking like a little bike taxi. Hey, he was acting a fool, dude. It was so much fun. We had a blast, dude. These spring tours have been crazy fun. I'm going to need a special guest appearance next year on those. Yeah. Hey, we're trying to go. Dude, let's do Louisville.
Starting point is 02:07:47 I'm down. It's not far away at all. Yeah. Two and a half, three hours. Is it a good time on Louisville? Oh, yeah. We'll have a great time. Yeah, the best is when you stay overnight.
Starting point is 02:07:56 You stay overnight and get after it. Like, you can kind of be like, I remember we're at Skapes and some girl was like, what do you do for school? And I was like, oh, bro, I'm 30. And she goes, why are you here? And I was like, that's a good question. I like, fucking walked away. I was like, geez.
Starting point is 02:08:12 Yeah. Oh, we're fucking here. We're just living here. We're ever a great time. I'm back in college right now. It's crazy, dude. It is fun. That was a blast.
Starting point is 02:08:18 But we definitely, the overnight, we want to have ASU next year, U of A next year, some of the Florida schools. We're trying to stay warm next year. We hear it's all a damn cold schools. Yeah,
Starting point is 02:08:28 it was a blast though. We should do Louisville because we were talking about bringing people with us. Yeah. Like having like our spokesman. Like if you go to Iowa, try and get kid on board,
Starting point is 02:08:36 go to Louisville, get you. Go to Georgia, get Ben Jones. Like guys where they went to that school. No doubt. Louisville's coaching staff's awesome, too. You'd love those guys.
Starting point is 02:08:43 Oh, really? Satterfield's great. You think we can get a jersey? Absolutely. See, okay. Quip me guys, my boy. I'm telling you, bro, we went to Tennessee and they didn't, they didn't show up. They didn't show love like that.
Starting point is 02:08:54 I'm a ball. I'm a ball baseball guy, but no. I've been tweeting at the Valls baseball team, too. Really? I followed him. And I'm like, oh, we're built different out here. Like, just saying something shit. Like, I'm a VAL.
Starting point is 02:09:05 And I've worked out at Vanderbilt. So I went there and, oh, I guess all the football team was like killing the strength coach that trains me. Like, well, what the fuck's the Juan doing out there? Oh, for real? Yeah. Because you're a VAL? I'm a VAL. I'm a VAL.
Starting point is 02:09:16 I'm a ball baseball guy. I'm obviously a Michigan football guy. Well, yeah, for sure. But I'm in Nebraska football guy. I'm so rude on Michigan Wolverines. Yeah, that's true. You know what I mean? Yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 02:09:26 We'll have to see at the end of the year in the fall when the Vols play the Vanderbilt where I draw the line in the sand. What's crazy? But I can be bought. If Vanderbilt, what I would say? If they play the Vanderbilt, sorry. If Vanderbilt, if Vanderbilt hooks the boy up with the jersey, they might have the edge.
Starting point is 02:09:43 But if Tennessee brings that jersey, they might have me too. I don't know. I'm so easily bought. That's all saying. We stay in any school we go to. We're like, oh, I'm going to root for you guys now. Yeah. If I'm not room for Nebraska, if I'm not rude for Michigan, I'm going to be rude for
Starting point is 02:09:55 Tennessee. Yeah, that's how you got to do it. 100%. Eventually we had all the schools and be like, we just want everybody to win. We're going to be, yeah, yeah. Give it out part of the Facebook shows. Yeah. Giving speeches at all of them.
Starting point is 02:10:05 That's awesome. Well, I think we've ran this one dry. I think we've done it. We've been a great time. It's been an outstanding time. We're happy you came on. And it's a 10-year anniversary? Yep.
Starting point is 02:10:15 10-year anniversary. We got engaged at a Garth Brooks charity event out in Vegas like 12 years ago. You guys, we did the exact opposite of you. Like we got, we took our time. Yeah. You all went. Hey, there's a bunch of ways it's getting a cat. No doubt about it. But anyways, we got engaged at a Garth Brooks charity event
Starting point is 02:10:31 you know, 12 years ago. So celebrate 10 years at a Garth concert tonight. Pretty tight. We actually found out Leslie was pregnant with our daughter the day of a Garth concert. Like Garth's been there. Oh, gosh. Got a bit about it. Are you going to meet him? I don't think so because they stopped doing like all the mean greets for the people that are involved with the foundation with COVID. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:10:51 I don't think so. I got in this badass barrelhead, like hand carved of him and Trisha. I'll show a picture. But so I dropped that off to his social media director yesterday. And so it would be cool if you gave a shout out. You know, did a gross worth his salt, he'll give a shout out? Oh, that's cool. Yeah, that's awesome.
Starting point is 02:11:14 Did you name your son, Garth? No, he's Garrett, but that would have been tight. Oh, Garrett. I might start calling him Garth. I was going to say all this, all this, all these hints at Garth, man. It's kind of like written in the stars. It's slapping you in the face. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:11:28 It's telling you what to do right now, the universe. Garth's a freaking awesome person, though. Yeah. Like some of those guys aren't all they're cracked up to be when you get to know them a little bit. We hosted a football camp in Louisville together for all inner city kids. No one knew who Garth Brooks was. And that's how he loved it. Like sitting there in a hoodie and a hat.
Starting point is 02:11:44 just like chopping it up. But the moment, like he sealed the deal for me, he's just sitting over there talking to my father-in-law, doesn't know he's my father-in-law, talks to him for 20 minutes. My father-in-law is one of my favorite people in the world, but he's a mailman. He can do nothing for Garth Brooks.
Starting point is 02:11:59 Bras sat there and talk to him for 20 minutes, you're shooting the breeze with him. That's awesome. I'm like, he's a real one. Who's the guy that's not worth there? The, like, the coldest anyone who has been, like, you know, like they come through Louisville and, you know, they're playing at our basketball gym and whatnot.
Starting point is 02:12:14 not like, we'll generally meet them or whatever. Zach Brown was like, like one of the dudes who like didn't offer to like have a drink or whatever. Yeah. Like, oh, one of my buddies had grown out of, he was doing like Movember. This was kind of early in my own career. So 2012, 2013.
Starting point is 02:12:32 So we're not like, we're like in our late 20s. He grew up like this massive mustache. And he was joking around. He's like, man, I've been, I grew up this mustache for the concert. And Zach Brown's like, that's kind of weird, man. Like, did it? And then, and then, like, you know it's a chicken fried, dude. He's cold beer on a Friday night.
Starting point is 02:12:49 I love his music. Don't meet your heroes. I love his music. Yeah, let you do. Yeah, I kill it, dude. What's that song? That bones me out. Yeah, he probably is a fan.
Starting point is 02:12:59 Colder weather. I mean. Oh, that's the song I was just trying to think of you. And I'm stuck in colder weather. Maybe tomorrow will be better. Can I call you then? Dune, doon, do, because I'm a rambling man. And I ain't never gonna change.
Starting point is 02:13:18 You got a gypsy soul to blame, and they were born for leaving. Born for leaving. Well, it's a winding road when you're in the lost and found. You're a lover, I'm a runner, and we go round and round. Doon, doong, because I love... I was just love with this. I can't think of it. I kept thinking that one of you two,
Starting point is 02:13:47 or like both of you guys were to stop and let me keep going. I was, hey, I love singing. Yeah, me too. I'm saying, always, dude. What's that? He was ready for us to turn the volume down, the car on him real quick. One of my favorite things to do is get up on stage
Starting point is 02:13:58 and sing with the band. You talk about trying to replicate a rush. Yeah. Like playing football, like singing in front of a crowd is awesome. I love it. What do you got? Should have been a cowboy is like my go-to, but like, I'm not doing it here.
Starting point is 02:14:09 Can we get a couple just to? Wherein my six shooter, riding my pony on the cattle drive. I'll probably end up on the stage tonight at the stage or something. Oh, yeah, because you and Garth are boys like that, so you can get out there and bring the barrel out. Where's my buddy at? One of my boys, Chris Ferrar, Common Good. He's playing at 1230 Club tonight. Awesome spot, by the way.
Starting point is 02:14:30 It is. It's a cool area. That's one of my favorite spots in town. I was sitting there one night. It's like the table that's kind of like right by the stage. And I was sitting there, waitress came up. She's like, that's where J.T sits when he comes in. I was like, oh, this is a special spot.
Starting point is 02:14:43 Yeah, this is nice. Yeah. I got to rub off on you a little bit. You know what I'm saying? Yep. Yep. He was the troll. He was branch.
Starting point is 02:14:49 Do we got anything else? We all got. Anything we haven't hit on? Anything you like to talk about. Anything you like to know. Foundation? Evan Wood Fund. So my little brother was born with severe cerebral palsy.
Starting point is 02:15:01 He passed when he was 11. So we got that up in Buffalo. So now it's called the Evan Wood Fund. It was the Eric Wood Foundation. I made it the Evan Wood Fund. It's under a children's hospital up there. So now they pay all the administrative fees, which is great. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:15:13 That's a hack for all. all athletes that are starting foundations and all that, make it a fund under a hospital, and then they'll pay all the administrative fees. So instead of donating 60 or 70% we donate 97% of the money donated. That's awesome. I say donate. All of it goes to the families as opposed to like, hey, well, we had to pay a few bills and all that.
Starting point is 02:15:32 that 3% covers like booze at our charity event, you know, like. Yeah. You know, so that's been a ton of fun to do. You got to get souped out to throw the money out there. No doubt. Yeah. That's an investment. But no, that's been fun.
Starting point is 02:15:44 Got the broadcast here, got the podcast. Yeah, what's next with Eric Wood? What's next with Eric Wood? Give a shot. Give a shot. Coming out. What would be the go-to? People are like, all right, I'm going to go check out of this podcast.
Starting point is 02:15:54 What's like an episode? You're like, all right, go to this. Great question. If you're into like personal development, like Ed Milette's as good as it gets, you know, John Gordon, those types of dudes. Those are great. If you're looking for a fun one, go listen to Ryan Fitzpatrick. T.O. was pretty good on there.
Starting point is 02:16:09 Joe Tom, like if you like O'Line Talk, Joe Thomas was great. Nick Hardwick was great. Joe's awesome. Joe's all time. Joe is. Joe on the bus, man. We've had them on Zoom, but not the bus. Are you doing cheat code?
Starting point is 02:16:19 Are you working with them? I'm doing it in two weeks. Yeah. Sheet code. She code is Armando, the guy that I've been working with for like brain hacking, like development, breaking through those walls as a child. Oh, the mental guy. Yeah, mental guy.
Starting point is 02:16:34 He's a mental coach. I could have just said that the first time. They actually ran away from me real quick. And I'm excited about that EMDR treatment. Like, I'm excited about it. And I think I had some traumatic stuff. So I think that'll be really beneficial for me. But even like in talking with dudes that are transitioning out
Starting point is 02:16:49 and be able to refer him to a bunch of other guys, I think that could be something that comes out of it as well. He's all time, dude. When the Titans brought him on, and I've been talking about three, four years ago, I want to talk to somebody kind of figure out these demons. And they brought him on. I was like, who wants to do it?
Starting point is 02:17:02 And I was like, I'm all about it. So Armando's my boy, dude. We've been working a lot. So it's awesome. For like the first five sessions I cried. Just like losing it. We're doing a three-day intensive in Louisville where, like, it's like all day. No phone, nothing.
Starting point is 02:17:16 Yeah. Yeah, I heard about that. I need to do one of those too. Yeah. Sounds like a wreck, you're going to wreck my world and then hopefully just like bring me out of it. God, you'll be glowing at the end of it. Good. He is so smart too.
Starting point is 02:17:26 The way he breaks things down, tells you things, like the way he makes you search throughout your brain. It's a crazy deal. How often do you work with him? Once a week? I need to bump that up at two a week, though. Yeah, I mean, shoot, therapy's incredible. Right. It really is.
Starting point is 02:17:40 And they can get any kind of therapy in their life. I feel like that's like, it's, it is extremely beneficial. Right. But this dude's worked with so many athletes. Like, he gets it. Right, right, right, right. You know. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:17:51 But for people out there thinking, all they're doing some like, some like extreme athletic hack for their brain. No, like, that applies to anybody. Right. Yeah, no doubt. Yeah. Being able to live free with not as much weight on your shoulders, what a way to live. Yeah. It's really the dream.
Starting point is 02:18:04 Yeah, he was saying, like, if you have, if you have open loops of, like, traumatic experience in your life, You don't even know that you're triggering those moments. And I haven't even done the treatment. I've just had a bunch of conversations with them and looked into it. But you go back to the mental state that you were in at that age and that emotional state whenever you're triggered in any type of way. And like it might be, you know, a death of a loved one. It might be alcohol, parents, whatever it may be. But like something could trigger you and you don't even realize it.
Starting point is 02:18:32 Like it might be just like the way someone made you feel made you feel in that way. Then all of a sudden you're like a freaking six-year-old again, like emotionally and mental. Yeah. I'll tell you what you do, you do an hour session with him, and you leave that session feeling amazing. He plays music for you. He does a whole, like, worked with this guy who does beats, but he put beats together in this, like, a way that, like, helps your brain, like, relax. It's a crazy deal. It's a crazy deal. But it's really cool. Really cool. I got to get both of you guys on the podcast. We tried to record with Will. First time in my life, the internet went out at our house. So. I know. What did you guys try to do that? We got back up. Was it during COVID? Yeah, it was during COVID. I mean, it was great. stuff and then it was like, well, we can't even do it next week because it'll be like, we're just repeat.
Starting point is 02:19:13 We're going to try and recreate the same stuff and it won't be nearly as good. I'm like, let's just let it breathe for a while and we'll go back and do it again. Now I've kind of forgotten. Exactly. We would try and reconnect and I would try and put myself in the same like state where I was like going. And I'm like, are you there? Oh, dude, I was. Fire.
Starting point is 02:19:31 Hey, that's tough. Yeah, we got, we tried to back on a couple times. And then it was Zoom. So you're like, you're sitting there way. And I feel like everybody at that point in COVID, like we're doing our pod. you're like trying to figure out the whole Zoom game and everything else. There's a touch of a lag, so you kind of interrupting each other a little bit. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:19:45 Yeah. I heard you with my boy Kyle Rudolph. He's one of my best friends. I heard y'all with him and like kind of step on each other's stuff. I was like, that would be really hard if you're not in the room together if you're co-hosting. Yeah. That was definitely a tough deal. Especially Taylor and I, like, we're not some buttoned up.
Starting point is 02:20:01 Yeah, there's no. There's no. No doubt about it. And you're trying to run the conversation. You know, you don't want there to be just, you don't want the guests to be sitting there like, are we done? If we're talking to you, Will and I can kind of feel like when the next person's got a question, when we're with each other. But if you're on the computer, it's like, I guess, like, you're kind of, you get to a point you're like, man, I don't want this to be like a awkward pause.
Starting point is 02:20:21 So I got to ask the question. But Will's probably thinking the same thing. Right. He goes to ask question. We're like, well, hey, you go ahead. You know what I'm saying? I know. You both say, you go ahead.
Starting point is 02:20:28 And then all right. And then he, it's just a fucking deal. Do you? Then you just stay there. You go ahead. You go ahead. Kind of staring at some. Look down on your phone.
Starting point is 02:20:39 Fucking idiot. We appreciate it, bro. Yeah, dude. I subscribe to what's next with Eric Wood. Check out those episodes. But this was a, this was a great episode. Anytime you don't have to look at notes, like it's all time. No doubt.
Starting point is 02:20:50 No doubt about it. Yeah. And I appreciate you letting me come on. I mean, I've been a fan of the show. So. I'm honored. I'm honored. Yeah, tier three cat in our hands.
Starting point is 02:20:59 Yeah. I love it. I didn't get to, I didn't get to ask about because you're a huge football junkie. So the answer will probably be no. But now that you're doing the media stuff, do you think back like, oh man if I would have struck a little more started a little earlier because to me it's always different when you're you become a retired player versus like being in being an active player that's what
Starting point is 02:21:19 I feel like it's been very beneficial for us is doing it like wall we're kind of playing obviously it's it's hard to be like yeah I mean I probably wouldn't have done it as playing but now that I'm doing it doing it currently it's like I should have probably done a couple more things early in my career yeah I think especially with the media world the more connections you can make like you don't even necessarily have to get reps, but like, you better be treating those national media members with a lot of respect and make as many friendships as you can. Like, I wasn't even like, I thought I was going to play for five or ten more years. So I wasn't like thinking about it all. But then Mike Silver and Ian Rappaport and all these dudes reached out like, hey, you need an agent. You want me to
Starting point is 02:21:54 help you get a gig here, you know? And then they'd be like, hey, can we make an introduction at ESPN here and there? And like, those were all just people that throughout my career, you know, just treated them well. And so like, and make those connections, make friendships. It was Albert It was a bunch of people that, like, helped me get into it because you treated them right. And I think that goes with anything in life. But then, you know, I love what you guys are doing. Like, having passions outside of ball is healthy, too. You know, like, in having something that you can pour into.
Starting point is 02:22:20 But I always warn people, like, I always tell people I'm like, if you're too, like, if you're skipping workouts and stuff to go do this real estate gig and all that, like, you're going to find the end of your career a lot sooner than you would have otherwise. So you need to be all in on ball. And then if you have time to do something else, perfect. Do it. Especially if it's something like this where it's like healthy. It's not like detracting from ball. And it's not like you're out like doing something. It's not like you're out playing basketball where you get hurt or whatever.
Starting point is 02:22:48 Yeah. I say that. But like I tell people, I'm like, man, you start doing real estate. You'll realize quickly like those dudes that make four or five hundred grand, that's a lot of money. Okay. If you make five million bucks, that's 10 years. Right.
Starting point is 02:23:00 Working in real estate. Like that's only one year. Like be really careful when you're putting too much time into something like that. in the office. Yeah, football is definitely, don't say that for credit. No, not at all. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 02:23:13 Those paychecks, they just don't fall off a treatment. Yeah, then just playing in general too. Oh, fuck. It's like you said, like you just wake up and you just can't play anymore. And it's like, there's no time, you'll never be able to go back and try again. Amen, bro.
Starting point is 02:23:24 Ever. And it's not a sport where you go and play recreationally. Like basketball, you can stay involved. Baseball, you can get on a softball team. Like, you can do stuff like football. You ain't going and be like, hey, let's fucking, let's get the boys together and go put the pads over a quick, boys. Yeah, which is actually awesome, because then you can just be the greatest forever.
Starting point is 02:23:42 And, like, no one's ever going to be like, tell, let's do a one-on-one pass. You're like, no, we're not doing that. I'm doing that. So then you're just good forever. Yeah. Like, you're good. But, like, you see these, like, former tour pros that play in, like, a pro am, and they're, like, terrible now. And they hate it.
Starting point is 02:23:54 They're frustrated. Like, you never have to get that way about the game. But last thing for me. But I really appreciated earlier when you said, like, when you were running today, like, you had that like the presence about you to say like man i'm grateful that i can even about here running and like it sucks doing a conditioning session especially you said you almost passed out i hate but to be like man i'm grateful for this opportunity because i know what it how crappy it was last year i couldn't even run like if people will ask me like what do you regret anything from your career
Starting point is 02:24:20 and like my biggest regret was like the first five years of my career i put so much pressure myself like man am i a bus like i keep getting hurt and like i cared like way too much what everyone and thought. And like the last like three or four years of my career, I would just drive to the stadium with the sound off and be like, man, how cool is? And I only lived a mile away. So it's like five minutes, a couple stoplights and I'm there. But I'd be like, man, how cool is this? Like, I didn't even start on my high school football team as a junior in high school. And now I get to go to an NFL facility and work. Like, and I would walk in each day just like on fire to be there. And that changed my mindset completely, just like a small little gratitude practice. But like when
Starting point is 02:24:56 you're in the league, like enjoy it. Like you work so hard to get there. And, and that. And in the moment it's tough, you know, because you're always worried about like, I'm going to get the next paychecker or am I going to get cut? If you lose, you put something bad on film, you're watching 80 times a night, like, fuck. Yes. You're bringing this up in the meeting tomorrow. Yeah, but it's like, man, you get to be a part. Like, you get to live out your dream.
Starting point is 02:25:14 Like, enjoy it. And who gives a crap if you have bad to play? It took me a while to realize, like, those dudes on defense get paid to. Right. Like, it's okay. Yeah, it is. It's all about how it's worded to you too as you're receiving it from your coaches. Yes.
Starting point is 02:25:26 Like, if the coach doesn't understand that they get paid to, and it's just like, this cloud of like nothing's ever good enough, that's hard to deal with. That's hard, but you have to be comfortable with yourself working with the guy like Armando and doing that work. So you can be like, okay, I'm doing what I need to do. And then you can be like, you can be strategic about how you approach the next thing.
Starting point is 02:25:45 Okay, I have to work on my hands. I have to work on my set this way. My hips turn when I go to transition with the guys on the high end of the rush. Right. Those types of things. Like it's all about incrementally figuring out those little things and you just keep progressing. That's what a great thing about campus.
Starting point is 02:25:58 Camp fucking sucks. Nobody likes camp. But if you take it and like, I'm just going to get better at this today. Your whole game doesn't have to be good. But if you're like, okay, my backside cutoffs, you don't ever have a backside cutoff being a center, but like your man reaches or whatever.
Starting point is 02:26:11 Right. You're like, if I can just fit this good today, solid day. No, no, no. It doesn't have to be a great all-around game? You're not there yet. It's August. It's late July, whatever it is. So making the most of it for sure is everything.
Starting point is 02:26:21 And sometimes when you're getting coached hard, like knowing that it's not like an attack on you personally. Like, it's not about you. Like, one thing that, that what I would think about helps me that would help me is knowing that that coach then leaves our meeting and has to go into a bigger meeting and they might be
Starting point is 02:26:36 getting cussed at about something that their players are doing. He might be projecting or him having his own deal with you just knowing like, you know, it's not even about you probably. Yeah. It's tough too that when Eagle gets in the way of like if your coach, like Keith our O-line coach, he's never played
Starting point is 02:26:53 offensive line. He was a tied end and then there's these there are times where there's a little bit of a disconnect in a way where you're like, dude, like you're asking for something in a simple way
Starting point is 02:27:04 that it's not, it's not that easy to do. Right. You know, you can't like, it's easier to talk about doing something where your hat's supposed to be.
Starting point is 02:27:11 Bullets are flying, like shit's a little harder. No doubt. That's what the great ones do. They make it look easy. That's a variable comment. Oh, yep. The great ones make it look easy.
Starting point is 02:27:18 Joe Thomas is the perfect example of that. He would just go and you, I'd watch him on film, legit be like, yo, fuck Joe. Like, he makes the shit look so damn easy.
Starting point is 02:27:25 Never even touched the ground in the game. Lethargic, just like, chilling. I'm like, how is he getting back? And the guy just kind of falls into him. I'm going to go make my 10th Pro Bowl in 10 years. You know, it's shit like that, man. He told him an awesome story on my podcast about to keep that start streak alive. He didn't practice for like four straight weeks.
Starting point is 02:27:44 His back was so bad. He was doing like two and a half hours of treatment before games, getting it shot up. He couldn't even sit in meetings. He had to stand because his back was so jacked up. And they're just like wheeling them out every week. But he had so much pride in that. dart streak. And he was like, man, at this point, I, like, I can play. Yeah. I can get out there. So, like, what's it say about me now? If I've made all this money and I'm making these pro bowls and
Starting point is 02:28:06 now I shut it down, like, am I selling out? And, like, yeah, couldn't do it. And he was like, man, it was like really dangerous what I was doing. Dude, I was, I was at the game when he, uh, tore his tricep. He was playing as the Titans. And I was like, it was literally like watching somebody like, I don't know, like an older brother. I have to be like. Watching a superhero. Yeah, but it was like home. Um, what the fuck. fucks that movie with the fox and the hound when the mom gets killed you're like damn like you feel emotion like that and of all the things to take him out of tricet down dude a trisette there's dad that shit was wild bro you know what I'm saying but like it was like he was coming towards us I was literally
Starting point is 02:28:41 like sitting parallel just watching Joe like that's how you know you're that good I'm on the sidelines after I get whatever the coaching notes were whatever I go on the on the side I'm watching him play just to watch it's Joe Thomas and it goes down I'm like fuck dude that's wild just crazy that he did it for so long. I know. And that many reps, 10,000 whatever reps. Yeah. Just wild.
Starting point is 02:29:01 On a terrible team. A terrible team. You know what I mean? Like a third thing. I don't know if he talked about this on your podcast, but I heard he was going to get traded to Denver the year they won a Super Bowl. Really? And then I, this is all he said, she said stuff.
Starting point is 02:29:13 I have no idea. But apparently he went to the GM and was like, please don't trade me. I want to, I want to be here. And then they put in the form like three minutes late. So it never actually, the transaction never happened. Wow. We won a Super Bowl. be a cool story. I know. I wonder if that's
Starting point is 02:29:27 true. But playing in the same spot your whole career, like there's something to that. That's so cool. It's such a rare. And like it's different because I think they made the playoffs one year. But like for me, like I couldn't leave Buffalo and then have them make the playoffs without me.
