Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey guys, it's us The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:08 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:00:27 Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from. some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
Starting point is 00:00:44 help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Winning on Clay is an art. The rallies are relentless,
Starting point is 00:01:02 and at the French Open, only the toughest survive. I'd know. I competed there for decades. Join me, Renee Stubbs, on the Renee Stubbs' tennis podcast for no-nonsense breakdowns of the biggest matches,
Starting point is 00:01:13 the toughest players, and the moments that define Roland Garros. She's an outsider to win the French fame. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lennarabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now and I actually can win on any surface. Listen to the Renee Stubbs Tennis Podcasts on the Iheart Radio app. Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:32 Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another episode of the Bus with the Boy Spring Tour. We are an ASU. But before we get started, we must talk to you about the most durable, reliable vehicle on the road. And that is Chevrolet. Chevrolet is a trusted company that has been innovating for the past 100 years. Up to now, most electric vehicles have been either too expensive, too small, and two limited in capabilities for most people.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Chevrolet is committed to making EVs available for all Americans. There is a growing network of public charging stations. There are over 1,900 certified Chevy EV dealerships. Chevy has convenient ways to research and shop EV online. EVs for everyone, everywhere. You guys need to look into getting one of those. They're built like some Chevys. Yeah, there's no question.
Starting point is 00:02:21 You guys are some big gentlemen. Yeah. And I want to apologize to you in a van. I know that you're on Team Maroon. Actually, that's a good way to start this. How do you feel knowing that you're walking to a game today probably going to lose? But that's got to be a tough feeling. I don't ever go.
Starting point is 00:02:37 I don't ever go into a game thing I'm going to lose. I'm going to just say that first and foremost. But going against my teammates, I'm just going to make sure that I keep them healthy. So that's probably the main thing. I'll be honest. I thought your other teammates on Team Gold, and they are not focused on keeping people healthy. Well, they're also on the outside. They're not really in the box like I am.
Starting point is 00:03:01 You know what I mean? If I come, if somebody come across the middle, Jalen, they're going to get kissed. You know what I mean? We try not to do anything outrageous, but yeah, I'll go into no game thing we're going to lose. You've never once in your life went to a football game
Starting point is 00:03:20 and thought, oh, we're probably not going to win. No. You played a Washington State, are you sure? Well, I'm pretty sure even when I was there, I still didn't think we were still going to lose. Still optimistic? Yeah. As a competitor, you not think.
Starting point is 00:03:37 It was nice, though, right? I mean, yeah. What did you guys? My opinion, uh, seven and something, I don't know. Winning. What, seven wins? Nebraska. Thanks.
Starting point is 00:03:47 I think so. I think so. I'll transfer it before the ball games. I don't know. Okay. There is a level in college when you play in college. Like, when I went to Michigan and I was with Rich Rodriguez and Brady Hope.
Starting point is 00:03:56 It was the darkest days in Michigan school history. We were awful. Rich Rod? Oh, man. Yeah, wild man. I mean, it wasn't really back then. I got recruited by him out of high school to go to U of A. Yeah?
Starting point is 00:04:08 Yeah. And you didn't want to go there? No. Oh, that's fair. That is fair. Two songs really is like that. But when you're in college, like you legit, I never once went into a game thinking we were going to lose.
Starting point is 00:04:17 Even looking back on it and seeing like the lack of talent we had, talent the other teams had like Ohio State, even Michigan State back then. they had crazy talent. So it is one of those deals you never feel like you're going to lose. When you get to the NFL and you get a little older,
Starting point is 00:04:30 you can just kind of start to realize hey, this team's a lot better than us. Yeah, you can see where you can see where we could be exposed. Yeah. If you're not executing at the highest level, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:04:43 They're like eliminate somebody from the game or, you know, you can't, this team's great in the red zone type of situation. You know what I mean? Yeah. I was all, for me, it was just, it was the one-on-one, matchups out of the backfield.
Starting point is 00:04:57 Anytime I felt like I would be isolated on the outside, on the perimeter is when my asshole got tight. Yeah. And for me, as long as I could stay outside of that, I felt all right. You know what I'm talking about? Yes or no. I understand that feeling. Yeah, like... Especially if you got somebody like, say Seqon Barkley out.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Bro. You know, I mean. Everybody loves Seekwon. And then they just yell at you like, stay inside. You're just like, man, bro. You don't understand. You know that. You know, that's out here. Come with this motherfucker.
Starting point is 00:05:24 This is like, okay, when you're on that field, you got the inside leverage. You see him breaking everything. He's telling you he's breaking out. But then he does some move that you're like, damn. Yeah. In the middle of the play, and you're like, oh, got to recover.
Starting point is 00:05:34 Yeah. When you guys get into a football game, like, what are the biggest levels of stress that you deal with? Is it the man-to-man coverage for you? Like, is it blocking? Like, what are we, what is the biggest thing that affects us? Like, when you're like, fuck, I hope I don't mess up these couple of things.
Starting point is 00:05:48 And then it'll be a good day. Well, for me blocking, just because, you know, I grew up being a receiver, so I never really had to do it. And then coming here, I always had a change on mind. So, like, I had to change my whole mindset. So, like, you know, I remember last year, y'all's Dian.
Starting point is 00:05:59 It was giving me the work at first. Yeah. We looked at last year. I ain't going to lie. We almost came back. We had a very slow start. We had a very so start. But we always came back at the end.
Starting point is 00:06:11 Very, very slow start. Man. So what made you transfer from Washington State to here? Honestly, I graduated. And I had the choice to either stay or leave. And there were some trust issues that I had with some of the coaches. at the other place, but this coaching staff that Dillingham brought in, a lot of the coaches that I knew at Washington State,
Starting point is 00:06:33 like a couple of the defensive coordinators came over here. So Coach Coop and Coach Ward, those were my guys that honestly would tell me the truth in my game. And truth was a big thing for me, especially with coaches, because I've seen coaches more as family. So when your family member lies to, you kind of see them a little bit differently. You know, so the biggest reason why I came was because of that truth aspect, and I know I was going to get something real.
Starting point is 00:07:00 Like, they were going to tell me something that wasn't just some stuff to tell me so I can end up staying. But they were going to tell me the truth, and that's why I chose here. That's awesome. Yeah. Jalen, you have a – you're a podcaster, yeah? Yeah. I see you got a show going on.
Starting point is 00:07:14 Talk to us about that a little bit. Oh, yeah. I'm a – like, I'm a journalism major, so it was kind of something I always wanted to get into. I never really have the resources to do so. until I reached that. I went on a podcast for like Phoenix, Ph. and X and they're like, hey, you're really good at this. And I was like, thank you.
Starting point is 00:07:28 And they're like, would you ever like want to host your own? I was like, I've always wanted to. I mean, I've always watched y'all and the Kelsey brothers and Pat McAfee. So I was kind of like my mindset going into. I want to do something similar to that. But obviously from a college perspective that is playing every week and that, you know, like even if like you lose a game on Saturday and you got come on Wednesday and talk about it, like you just got to be real life.
Starting point is 00:07:46 It's like that was just something I thought would be cool. We did get a little different perspective and know it's been successful so far. Have you liked it? Yeah, it's been super fun. It's like, it's funny because it's like, it's not like an interview anymore. It's just talking. Like, you're having a conversation with cameras in front of you. So I think that was the biggest difference for me at first.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Like the first one was very like robotic and, you know, I was almost like reading off a script. And then finally it got more normal. Yeah. Now I get to have guys like Tray Brown on. You get to talk about practice. And he also said on one of his podcasts that he would be able to guard him on the defense. I will. I played DB in high school.
Starting point is 00:08:16 You're not faster in me. Actually, it's close. I'm covering you. If you're, if you're, I'm pressing. Yeah, right. If I'm a waiver a little bit. Like you sounded when he said, oh, shit, he's fast in here? He turns a fast help.
Starting point is 00:08:29 If I get my hands on, if I get my hands on. You heard him, right? We could get a one-on-one lined up today. We've been telling Coach Dilly we need it. We're waiting. Do we get that going to? Oh, my gosh. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:08:38 We can make that happen. Let me know. The head coaches. Let me know. I'm ready. We'll call it, you know. If there's a competition period. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:45 Okay. We're ready. Call it up. I do love that. Jalen. To the middle. Yeah. I'm talking about me on the outside.
Starting point is 00:08:54 You're not getting inside, and then you're definitely not catching a fade, and you're not getting by me. It's like, what are you going to do? What are you going to do? We'll find out. Right at you. I'm not saying that. Right at his coach said, okay.
Starting point is 00:09:06 Let it happen. We're going to see. Going back to your podcast real quick, you said it was robotic at first, and then started to get, feel more and more normal. When did you feel that, like, transitioning happened? How many episodes have you done also? I've done three. So I just had, I did one by myself,
Starting point is 00:09:19 and then the other one was with my coach. host and then I had Dillian on the third one. I think I think the second one was where I started to feel it, but the third one where like it was really just a conversation with me and Coach Dillaham and stuff. And it was very normal. We talked about a bunch of fun stuff. You know, we got into like some hot takes. You talked about, you know, start bitch cutting people.
Starting point is 00:09:35 Like we just did fun stuff like that. And I think that was where it got more normal for me as in like, hey, man, this is just fun, like to have a little conversation, you know, stir up a little, start up a little bit, nothing like professional or anything. Yeah. It is, there is like having those bits like start bench cut like those things are the always fun things to go into. We do like tear talk and shout out of her for shout it.
Starting point is 00:09:52 It's like a fun way to kind of move from conversation to like your own weekly thing that everybody can kind of join into. Yeah, I think at first it's funny because it's like transitioning. Like you start a topic and then like I always want to be like, oh yeah, next topic. Like you don't got to say that. It's just like, you know, it's getting into just having a normal conversation and just like fluid. So that was the biggest thing for me, but I got it now. How long do you want to keep it going?
Starting point is 00:10:11 I want to go as long as I can. It's every week so far has been more and more views. So like that's what I think the coolest part is. I'm going to start having a lot of my teammates on, especially with spring ball, You know, we're just talking about fun stuff, talking about hooping, golf and stuff like stuff like that. Because we all, you know, we all find stuff to go do outside football, like, once it's over during spring ball. So I want to keep it going. Obviously, going to the NFL, like I'd love to keep it going there.
Starting point is 00:10:32 You know, hopefully maybe compete with you all a little bit for views, maybe a little bit. Yeah, let's go. A little bit. A little bit. I know you got a lot of viewers. So you know, that's our goal. You made two statements in this podcast where you start off so confident. And then he kind of, you know, we don't got a, it's not a big deal.
Starting point is 00:10:48 You know. There's so many eyes and ears out there. That's a gold thing. What did you say? That's a gold thing. Oh, yeah. Playing the head games early. Don't even buy into that, brother.
Starting point is 00:10:58 I know. We'll just play ball. Exactly. We already talked about it all week. We're ready. Coach, talk some shit. We'll let you guys handle it on the field. The idea would be you keep it going.
Starting point is 00:11:07 You get to the next level and everything else is still going. And we just all collab on each other. Yeah, that would be super fun. Exactly. Rising tide looks. It's all shit. Yeah, that is the thing, too. I feel like the podcast world is not, I mean, it can be competitive for other people.
Starting point is 00:11:18 For us, it's like, there's so, many years. People listen to multiple ones. It's not you just die in the hill for one. I can't keep moving forward. I think that's the coolest thing too. It's like a lot of them, like, even like between the Kelsey Rose, Pat McAfee and y'all's like the three I watch the most, it's just like you are the same but it's so different. Like y'all have the all same conversations, but it's different perspectives,
Starting point is 00:11:35 it's everything. So like with mine, that's just why I try to keep like, mine's a player's perspective. I'm 21 years old. I'm still in college. A lot of people ask me questions like, sometimes I'm like, I can't answer that right now. It's like, when I'm two years older, I'm in the league, I'll answer that question. But I think that's just the coolest thing is like you get a different tier level of perspective. It'll be fun to see like your mindset
Starting point is 00:11:52 and how you think about things. Be able to you get in a little bit being able to come back and watch these first three episodes and how you viewed things then and maybe you do this five, 10 years down the road and you can look back and be like, man,
Starting point is 00:12:03 I think way differently now than I did back then. Exactly. But you all were bringing up, you were talking about having the boys on and stuff doing outside of football, golf, hope, all that. Like what is like the main selling point for you guys when it comes to Tempe, Arizona,
Starting point is 00:12:14 getting other guys out here? For me, I think like, First of all, you can't beat this weather. Like, Colorado's was practicing, like, two weeks ago and 30-degree weather or whatever. Like, it's literally like this all the time. Summer gets hot, but, like, obviously, I think that's, like, an advantage we get, such when the season comes around, just getting a workout and that. And honestly, like, you all know, like, who doesn't love Tempe?
Starting point is 00:12:33 Have you been out about still 10 minutes away? I mean, that's all I got to say. I'm going to say much more than that. You understand. Timby is a one-of-a-kind place. I'd say that for sure, especially come from Palman. Yeah. where it's nothing but ice and snow and sleet and all that every day.
Starting point is 00:12:51 Yeah, you are not in the same place. Man, it's a culture shot. I think a lot of it's opportunities too. Like the opportunities you can get outside of football around here just with businesses. And, like, for me, like, I got to start a podcast 10 minutes away from here in Phoenix. So I think just in terms of that and, you know, getting to be around, like, certain people and just hearing, like, everyone, what they have to say and stuff is, like, you get a whole, you can get on a podcast. You can, you know, you can start working for a company. Like, I know a lot of guys that have jobs set up.
Starting point is 00:13:16 already after you're here that they're going to start living here for the next 10 years. So I think that's one of the coolest things about it is just like the metro kind of area about it. Trey, what are you looking to accomplish this year that you transferred? You got to kind of go, hit the portal, go wherever you wanted to go. What are you individually looking to accomplish? Mainly just being the best version of me. Like the individual accolades, all that stuff is good, but I just want to be the best me. I want to be the most dominant me.
Starting point is 00:13:43 I want to be a leader that everybody looks up to. I want to be a captain that people know if I'm speaking on something, it means something, and vice versa. I'm just looking to be that teammate that everybody has that loves and have that passion for the game. So really just being the best version of me. All the statistics and all that stuff will come with the game, but really just looking to be in the best version of me. What kind of weaknesses do you see that you have that you want to work on? I'd say out in the space, obviously, like we talked about earlier, if we had to guard somebody like, man on man.
Starting point is 00:14:23 Yeah, we had to guard somebody like man on the apex. Or, you know, just something like that in different coverages, that'll be something that I'm like I'm always working on, especially like right now in the spring. And really, I mean, I'd say that's pretty much it. If I can be more vocal, if I can be a better coach to, you know, other guys that being another team. as well, I can improve there too.
Starting point is 00:14:49 You can always just check rat. Yeah. I mean, they leave the box, check rat, bring it back in. What do you think, Coach Dilley? Yeah, that's a great idea. That's a good idea. That's a good idea. What do you guys see the expectation for this season?
Starting point is 00:15:05 Shoot, Rose Bowl, for sure, at the least. Oh, my God. I'd be serious. I say it's like last year, you know, obviously we were in a weird situation with coaching, you know, stuff like that. We were a really good team. I think, obviously, there were some pieces missing, and, you know, we just had to deal with a lot of bit of adversity.
Starting point is 00:15:22 But I'm not kidding when I say this. Like, Coach Delaham brought in, like, already brought in a culture that is way different and that, you know, I've been at OU and I've been here for two years for two different coaches, and it's just way different. This team is more together than I've ever seen any team together. I think we genuinely have a chance to go do that. I mean, we were in games last year where, you know, we beat Washington, and they were one win away from the playoff.
Starting point is 00:15:42 You know, we were in the game with USC, you know, until about the third quarter. I think we can hang with those guys. And, you know, with the new pieces we have and the offense and the defense, you know, that we're going to be able to bring. I seriously think we have a chance to do something special here. What do you think is done differently culture-wise? Being Oklahoma, being two eight coaches here,
Starting point is 00:15:56 states a lot of different teams more together than any team you've been on. What's what makes it different? I think the biggest thing is just, like, getting the players, like, to do what, you know, like, it's player-led at the end of the day. Like, coaches are going to be here and they're going to tell you what to do. But the end of the day, like, if the players are not together, then, like, it's not going to mean anything. I think, you know, us just even being outside going to do stuff together, just being around each other,
Starting point is 00:16:16 or, like, you know, just having, like, little events in here doing team comp, you know, where we're going, like, for the same thing. Like, I think a lot of it was, you know, I think some there was individual-based stuff before, like, when, you know, previous teams I've been on, which, you know, obviously some people are going to be like that in general, everywhere you go. But I think here, you know, it's way less. And I think a lot of is, like, hey, like, if we're going to win, we got to be successful and we got to work hard. Like, his motto is we got to be the hardest working team in the country, but we've got to have fun, like, we're going to have fun doing it. So I think we take that motto and we just run with it. You know, if you've seen our practices and everything, you know, it's super fun, but it's super high pace.
Starting point is 00:16:47 It's super physical. So, you know, we got told, you know, the team down south isn't working as hard as we are and, you know, isn't physical as us. So we're going to keep that mantra going. So love that. Boys, we, I think we're right around 15 minutes right now. Do you have any more questions before we want to hang this thing up?
Starting point is 00:17:02 I appreciate it. And, hey, Dillet, you're doing a great job out here, buddy. Like this, Jeff sounds different. Is that guy? Yeah, he really is. He's that guy. You'd just be saying that because we're in his office. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:14 Yeah, I know. He just walked in, so, you know. He's a genuine coach. He is seriously. There you go. This is really his dream job. Like, I remember first time we talked to him, like, he literally came in there, kicked his shoes off and was yelling, screaming, crying, like, telling us, like, this is my dream job.
Starting point is 00:17:27 I want to get done here. He told us yesterday, like, he doesn't want to go. He doesn't want to win here and then go somewhere else. He wants to build something here. So, yeah, we believe in that. That's awesome. That is awesome. Well, fellas, we appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:17:37 Appreciate it. As always, subscribe. Great five stars, big hugs. Tiny kisses. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin.
