The Boys kick things o...ff by breaking down Week 2 of college football, from Nebraska dominating Akron to Michigan’s loss to Oklahoma. Little juice, little juice.
Come on.
Hey, guys, it's us.
The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe.
I'm Kevin.
And I'm Nick.
And guess what?
We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Nice.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We get to ask other people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
But, you know, tired and sick.
Tired and sick.
Listen to Hey, Jonas, on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you
get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Your 20s can be so exciting,
but they can also be really overwhelming, confusing, and honestly, just kind of lonely. May is
Mental Health Awareness Month, and the psychology of your 20s is breaking down the science
behind the biggest roadblocks we face. I was six years into my career, the 80-hour weeks, and just the
first one in, the last one out, and I ended up burning out. There was a large chunk of my 20s that I
like was just so wanting to like be out of that phase out of my skin and I just like really regret not
living in the present more. You don't need to have everything figured out right now. You just need to
understand yourself a little bit better. Listen to the psychology of your 20s on the IHeartRadio app,
Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is,
getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is,
getting a new one put up in its place.
I'm Akila Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 is about both of those things.
As I was watching these statues come down,
I was thinking about what it meant that I grew up in a majority black city
in which there were more homages to enslavers than there were to enslave people.
Listen to Rebel Spirit Season 2 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts.
Well, season is officially in full effect.
We had a full slate on Saturday.
Thursday was beautiful.
Friday, we got to see a game in Brazil.
Sunday, every game.
There, every slot, whether it's noon, whether it's three, the Saturday Night Football
Game, it was electric all around.
A lot of great college football games, too.
A lot of great college football games, too.
Especially one in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Huskers, Huskers.
Especially one down in Gainesville, Florida.
Yeah.
Another one that we'll talk about in Norman, Oklahoma.
People are probably wondering, what are the boys doing in front of my face on a Monday afternoon?
Yeah.
Because it is, right now, as we record, every week when we record our.
intros for the busing episode.
You're still getting the busing interview,
busing episode tomorrow. Husker fans are going to
fucking love it.
But we decided
the boys, the unit, the squad here,
that hey, we're reacting to football games.
They usually don't drop until Tuesdays.
Now that we're in football seats, if we knock this out
Monday mornings, is there a world where we can get
the football talk and football reactions
and recap out by Monday afternoon,
the earliest? What we did is instead of doing
like a two to three hour intro before the interview
where we talk all games,
games because we're watching college, we're watching NFL.
We're now carving that out and putting it on Monday afternoons.
So every Monday afternoon, you're going to be getting busing with the boys, our football
recap, Greg Olson.
Since he came on the show in the summertime, there's been whispers, there's been conversations.
Hey, will you join us to do our football weekend recap every Monday?
Because we want to follow your youth football team.
We want to follow that 8-0-9-0 season.
The kids are most important.
Yes.
We got to see what Greg Olson's kids are.
And there's rumors about other coaches.
have texted other guys who are bustling with the boys saying,
I played against Greg Olson's son team,
and my God, what a juggernaut they got over there.
So we're going to keep track of them all year long
with their season ends in October.
We're going to keep track of them all the way until October.
And I want to hear from the coordinators, too.
Like, to me, this is not like Luke Keakley.
If they have a bad defensive performance,
I need Luke Keakley to be zoomed in talking about the bad defense.
He needs to have a conversation.
Get those salt packets and the salt and pepper,
those little things they do at the little coffee table.
They need to dial that whole entire thing.
Yeah. But big, big weekend for football. I think it's only best for Buston with the boys.
We start quick. We start hard. We start fast, just like the Nebraska Corn Oscars.
Will Compton, how do you feel beating Akron 68 to 0?
Look, we played a Montessori school, and I'm completely aware of that.
But what I personally loved, loved to see is we didn't punt the ball one time.
When you go out there, it gets a...
We've possibly the best punter in all of college football.
Right. And his family apparently traveled all the way from Australia to watch him,
and he didn't even get to showcase that leg a little bit.
I know, I know.
They got to be staying for a few weeks, though, right?
Bus, got to stay for the best of bowl.
I think they are in town for like the first three games, correct?
That's crazy.
They were at this out before the biggest game of the year.
That would be great.
Hopefully it just wasn't a weekend trip from Australia.
I hope so.
18 hours to go watch your sun stand on the sidelines.
Yeah. He got a pop too.
When his name got introduced pregame, he got a pop from the crowd.
And I also love the fact that punters are getting,
introduced at a game. Bring that back. Normalize that. Yeah, normalize that. And that's a great call.
Gee, we got to get his family. If they're in town, we got to give him to the live show on September
19th. Bring them out there. The Rukoko Theater. Again, Bustin Bolus coming, Nebraska versus
Michigan in Lincoln, September 19th is a Friday and we are doing a live show at the Rococo
theater in Lincoln. Go to BWTB.com to secure your slot. I don't know where tickets are. I know
they're selling fast. We might be out. Who knows? I don't know, but it's going to be rocking.
We're doing a tailgate the next morning, September 20th.
We'll go ahead and get all that promo out of the way.
The boys will be tailgating September 20th in the morning at what's that location?
It's like the Haymarket Park.
Haymarket Park.
We'll be at Haymarket Park tailgating arises off before that game.
But yeah, dude, what I loved about the Huskers is you know as a staff and as a team,
if you're playing a bad football team, a little small school from the match that's coming in to play you guys.
You want to see execution.
With defensively, you want to see a goose egg on that score.
Yeah.
Offensively, you want to score every drive.
Offensively, you want to score every drive.
We had 31 first downs.
Daly one first downs over seven yards and four touchdowns, Will.
364 yards and four touchdowns, Will.
364 yards in four touchdowns.
And the offense,
put up a goose egg.
Yeah.
Or in the defense put up a goose sake.
This is what I liked about that game.
When we went to Kansas City and we watched them play against Cincinnati Bearcats,
Shurn brought this up and it was a great point.
Nebraska cornersters should have beat the Cincinnati Bearcats by two touchdowns.
You walk around, it seems like a very conservative game plan,
especially on the offensive side of the ball.
Like, hey, let's do our best not to lose this game.
You felt like butt holes were a little tight when we were in Kansas City
from a Nebraska standpoint.
They go in and this week, yes, it's Akron.
Yes, it's the Monastery School, School of the Deaf and the Blind.
But it's like, let's open Rayola up.
Let's show what we got at running back.
Let's put our big uglies on the line of scrimmage
and watch them move the line of scrimmage.
And they did that every single drive.
And that was something, if you're a Nebraska cornhusters fan,
you've got to be very excited to be like, okay, this is the offense.
And you're not going to expect, you know, 68 points every single game.
But you know the guys have it.
You know, Rayola is the guy you hoped he was going to be.
This Emmett Johnson kid, I know he was good last year,
but it takes more than one guy to take him down.
And the black shirt's obviously putting a goose egg on the board is unbelievable.
I love to see it.
The week after two during all the pressers,
it's like when you come out of that Sincey game,
I wish you would have opened it up.
They're saying Dylan executed that game plan to perfection.
I love that.
Hogerson, baby.
Holgerson.
Hogan.
Hogan.
Hogan.
You see him putting lips in in the middle of the game?
Yeah.
He's a bro.
He's a bro.
Did Dylan put up that tight end to proposing to his girlfriend?
Similar to Travis Kelsey proposing to him to live.
I did see that.
I did see that.
Like, buddy.
Yeah.
Like,
Rayola is trying to become Patrick Mahomes
because you see the tight end
they get engaged.
Travis Kelsey.
You can't,
when you saw Patrick Mahomes
lower his shoulder on 23 for the Chargers,
I think everybody in their mother thought,
Nebraska,
he's going to be running out of bounds
and he's going to lower the shoulder on somebody.
He's going to truck somebody.
And it's just going to be like,
here we fucking go again.
I tell you what,
his stats look nice.
His stats look fucking nice.
I'm talking nice enough
to potentially in the near,
future be in that Heisman conversation. Not right now. Right. I'm going to say that right now.
Right. But but numbers are there. Keep your eye on it. Keep your eye on it. Keep your eye on it.
Keep your finger on that pulse. You want to be the guy that said Will Compton reported it first.
That's what you want. Just like the guy who reported Arch Manning being hurt first was not the
mainstream media. It was Jeremy Clump. Jeremy Clump. So what was it before week one, right?
No, right at the start of week one when he's warming up. I saw him moving his shoulder.
Moving his shoulder.
Popped over a little text and hey, watch out for Archimani's shoulder.
It seems like he's got a little something going on.
During the game against Ohio State, holding the ball for a long time.
A lot of those passes were dirted.
Seemed a little bit inaccurate.
His throwing mechanics seemed a little bit off.
He goes in and he has a game he does against, you know, another Montessori school, four touchdowns.
But buddy, there's a video and I hope we get it up on this Monday breakdown of him throwing a pass.
And as you see his face, there's no joy in that face.
The wincing.
The wincing.
The wincing.
the grimacing in his face when he's throwing that football,
you could tell something's up with that poor bastard.
I feel bad for Arch Manning right now.
And it's a bad throw too, which is more concerning.
So the injury is impacting him throwing for sure.
Right.
And if you're-
So you keep an eye on.
Right.
And if you're taking the optimism approach,
it's like, oh,
Arch Manning really is a generational quarterback.
He's just hurt right now.
That's the optimism approach you're going to take.
How do we get him healthy?
That's a whole other thing.
Now we get a little pessimistic.
But optimism-wise, it's like,
oh, we would have beat Ohio State,
but he was hurt.
Yeah.
That's a whole look on that.
I have a,
I have a question.
Go ahead.
For JP,
South Carolina Gamecox.
Yeah.
Talk to me about that game.
I didn't watch it.
It was a little close
in the first after where I'm like,
what's the deal right now?
South Carolina State.
Against South Carolina State.
One, South Carolina State is a team
that you want to grab guys from the portal from
because they got a lot of like,
they always have this like one receiver that's six, four,
two, 25.
They just have bad grades in high school.
So he ends up there.
he's a stud.
But the O-line played bad.
And then the rain delay, I think, not that you ever want to make an excuse, but the game
started at like 9.30 p.m., which is just a long day for anyone.
Horrible conditions.
Guys are getting hurt left in night.
Delays suck, period.
Period.
So then to start that late is like nothing good was ever going to happen, except for Vicari Swain,
the guy who returned to punt last week, returned two this week.
I saw your tweet.
But we got to clean up the O-line.
The O-line is the number one.
one issue. Are you concerned and worried about the O line? Because they had some free runners
against Virginia Tech. You're talking about the O line. Yeah, left car and left tackle.
South Carolina State. When they get into these big, I mean, you got Vandy. You're hosting Vandy
this weekend. Like, are you concerned about where the offensive line is at? Definitely. But I think
I would be more concerned with the offensive like play calling. Because if you have a battle line,
there are ways to scheme around having a battle line. And we have, you have a quarterback that you
can scheme around it with. And that's been another frustration.
is like you're kind of
it seems like we're forcing
sellers a little bit to be a pocket passer
when it's like he's Cam Newton type
so like we need to be kind of getting
him outside moving around
instead of like making a bunch of reads and
all of that stuff so yeah it's
but I'm not worried about this game
is a game this week in South Carolina
yeah it's gonna be a great game
and you've got a juggernaut coming at you because
it's see I mean
Vanderbilt was down yeah juggernauts a little heavy
However, Vanderbilt was down 20 to 10 and they ended up coming back and
and scoring by, beating by multiple touchdowns like Pavia, the boys, paid.
This is going to be, it's going to be an awesome game.
I'm excited about this one.
And you know, night game, which plays into our favorite.
It does because the Sandstorm playing South Carolina, those fans go so hard.
We got to witness it against.
And we play, we do like fall to the level of our competition.
We rise to the level of the competition.
We're an up and down team.
So I think at night under the lights at Willie B.
Sellers might have a little
Heisman moment game.
You got anything to say to Cade?
I texted Cade today.
I say it's Cade McConnell hate week,
but it's all love.
But I hope Cade crushes it.
Like I want him.
I told him, I said, dude, he's like, you know,
actually I won't say this,
but I told him it's going to be a great game too
for him to get tape out for like NFL stuff
because teams watch Dylan Stewart every week.
And not that he's going to be matched up on Dylan Stewart,
but guys will be watching and if he can hold down.
They got that transfer detackled though from Bama, correct?
Yeah, who's a pretty...
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, he's good.
You hear that Kaye facetimed in on Saturday after the game?
Yeah, he faced it in the locker.
From the locker room after they beat back and the whole locker room just going nuts.
We're out there.
Yeah, when we were streaming that God forsaking game, quick...
But on the stream, though, shout out everybody's showing up to the stream.
Yeah, everybody tuning in.
We did our first Thursday night football stream.
We will be streaming every Thursday night football game,
except for like one or two.
It might be like during the holidays.
Yeah, Christmas and Thanksgiving kick rocks.
Yeah.
And the college ones will be spotty.
I know there's five to deliver.
College ones will be spotty so that won't be like every Saturday.
But shout out everybody's showing up and showing out for the bus and streams.
It feels like the next one we're going to stream from college football is going to be Penn State, Oregon,
night game whiteout in Penn State.
So that'll be then I think that's the next stream that's kind of on the horizon.
Just a quick blip.
Just want to put this out there.
Iowa State.
If you watch the locker room with Josh Pate,
I believe, did you take Iowa State or Iowa?
I took Iowa to cover.
Okay.
So I think later in the week you won because they ended up going three and a half.
Yeah.
They ended up covering when we were talking about in the locker room.
But Rocco Becked boys, Rocco Becked.
Hey, what I say?
They're up to something.
They go three hours.
You said it.
They were up to us.
From Wilcompton.
Rocco Beck and Iowa State, they look kind of nice.
Grinowski, Grinowski for Iowa, what, 124 yards in two games?
Just in Iowa.
Hey, defense.
The Grands a squad, baby.
That, to me, is the biggest thing coming out of that game, just the first couple weeks with
Iowa.
Again, Iowa, where you laugh about it, but they posted this five-yard-out route where he's got,
you know, throws a little dime on the five-yard-out.
And it's like, fellas, we have a quarterback, or Iowa has a quarterback.
Yeah, it looks like the passing game or something.
In over two weeks now, they have, like, nobody, like, they haven't played, Iowa State's
a good football team, but for him to have, statistically, the lowest passing yards of any
Big 10 quarterback of all time.
And for it to be at Iowa
is, to me, that's the big thing.
They're always going to be.
Iowa's just going to be fucking Iowa, bro.
Like they're going to get you tough wins.
They're going to win about eight to 10 games
depending on schedule, seven to 10 games
depending on schedule. But they're never going to be,
there's never going to be optimism for a playoff
run year at Iowa.
At the Iowa, guys.
At Iowa.
Iowa ever.
You know what I'm saying?
They just got this feel that they're just never going to be that contending team.
Yeah.
Like a a contender in the Big Ten.
No, they're always going to be a team that gets a couple in the Big Ten.
They're going to, every an off year in the Big Ten, they're going to sneak into that Big Ten championship.
Right.
Get dummy by the Superior Team.
Like Kirk Farrant, he's been there for what?
Three decades?
Three decades, bro.
And it's like, give them the statue, give them all the things.
But it's like, buddy, how do you create a?
the forward pass in Iowa.
How do you create it?
Because it just seems like no matter what you do,
you could go and get Garrett Nussmeier,
take them over from LOSU, bring him into Iowa,
and the kids all of a sudden can be a running quarterback.
Yeah, they're Cleveland.
It's where quarterbacks go to die, bro.
It's where quarterbacks go to die.
It's also where just beefy,
mullet-ridden mustache-haven,
all Big Ten offensive linemen go to have spicy careers.
Yeah.
It's the hump that Nebraska needs to get over.
Which home?
Iowa.
You're lying though.
We got to handle our business.
Right.
We absolutely got to beat Iowa's essence.
We get sit up here and talk all this crazy stuff about them, but if I'm being-
But that's the thing.
That's what Iowa does.
If I'm trying to do my job as immediate journalist and cover everybody unbiasedly, that's
the feel I get from Iowa.
I was never going to come out of the offseason feel like they're going to win the national
title like the Cornhuskers doing Lincoln.
They don't got that about them.
We got the light shows in the fourth quarter.
Lights going off just being proud.
of your football team in such a way
that we got a real shot this year.
I was never going to feel that way.
They might own us in the last decade
as far as Huskers v. Iowa goes.
We will handle that ass this year,
but that's my overall general consensus
of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
They will never feel
the way we get to feel optimistically,
even on the bad years, JP.
Now with Dana Holgerson on the sideline.
Well said.
Update Iowa is 8 and 2 against Nebraska
in the last 10 year.
And so I said they own us in the last decade.
I will say that.
If Nebraska, yeah, it might be impossible for Nebraska to go and defeat it with Iowa on the schedule.
It might be impossible.
But, hey, got to be really excited about Nebraska.
We did a hashtag tear talk.
The questions, concerns, all the things.
And I feel like that's a good bleeding into the next game.
Duck at Drunk Duck Co.
Said, true or false, Taylor is beginning to feel uneasy about the Boston Bowl.
Hashtack tier talk.
Now, for those of you who want to be a part of the conversation on Monday,
you just put a tweet out, question, comment concern, put hashtag tier talk, we will get to you
and we'll have that open conversation.
My concern is not about the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
My concern is the game plan that took place in Norman, Oklahoma.
The whole thing for Bryce Underwood and the entire media of Michigan going down to Oklahoma
was we're going to find out who we have in Bryce Underwood,
when this game's all over.
Unfortunately, we still don't know
what we have in Bryce Underwood.
That game to me, it was vanilla play calling,
so run heavy, which I love that
because it's like Michigan is going to be
a tough and gritty football team
that's going to grind you out over and over and over again.
We sustained a shitload of injuries.
They hide this injury from the tight end Klein,
who was kind of practicing before,
trying out the ankle ends up being in a boot.
Bryce Underwood ends up going eight for 21 for 160,
142 yards and negative one rushing yard.
I didn't love the game plan.
I don't think the game plan put Bryce Underwood in a position to be successful.
By the time, you know, you feel Oklahoma was kind of like the Bill's,
the Bill's Ravens games except for the outcome was the rate,
you watch the Ravens the whole game.
You're like, oh, they're in control of this game the entire time.
It was that feeling to me with Oklahoma was John Mateer is as advertised.
He is a dog.
Not only is he a dog on the field, I guarantee that boy's going crazy.
off the field as well.
Crazy.
The flow, the moxie, the aura, the kids got absolutely everything going from.
He can dice him up that kid, Dionne Burke's number four from Oklahoma.
He's an absolute stud.
I think they had, he, I mean, John Meteer put it, put it right into a cover two zone, right
on the edge and that Burke's kid brought it in great.
Do you want to know where John Meteer won me over?
Tell me.
After the game, when he's doing a post-game presser, and he's talking about, number one,
he gives credit everywhere else, but he's shout.
shouted out the fan base because he's like there's a couple bad moments that we had and coming back
out there on the field and you guys cheering us on and everything else we really appreciate it and
I'm fired up that you guys came out and you're supporting me the way you are and everything else
that that that tickled the pickle with John Meteer yeah he seems like he's great seems like he's
checked up all the boxes and I'll say this about Michigan we can't that game plan can't happen we
I mean it is what it is you want to be as as positive as you can with the team that you love but
it felt as though that game was being played not to be embarrassed.
Dave Portnoy said that,
and I completely agree with it.
Like, he played that game not to get embarrassed
because you felt like you were a little,
you know, maybe overwhelmed in a talent category.
I don't know.
I didn't get to watch the receivers.
It seemed like Bryce had time,
but I think Brent Venetabals did an amazing job on the defensive side of the ball,
confusing, bringing seven, showing seven, dropping three.
Like, he did a great, he had a great game plan to confuse a young quarterback.
But at the end of the day,
guys don't feel like there was a lot of we want to take over this game and you see it multiple
times on third and six you're running the ball right up the middle and so that that to me is
disappointing now take this game against i believe it's central michigan let's show what we can show
let's let's get the pieces going let's get some guys healthy because we get a big one in two weeks
if i'm sitting in will compton's position right now i'm very excited about the nebraska cornhusters
against the michigan wolverines but at the end of the day man what did you make of
Bryce's uh there obviously people are blowing it up but when he was yelling at that kid
justice Hayes yeah i it's kind of loved it i kind of loved it because this kid's 18 years old
and 19 days or 20 days whatever it is at this point like he's just turned 18 years old and he's
getting on guys about where they need to be you can tell one thing i liked about bryces he didn't
seem overwhelmed from play calling from the noise he seemed like he had poised the entire game even though
his stat line didn't show that but boys like you're going to get your asses
ass beat with that type of game plan.
You're going to get your ass beat when you're running,
run on third and six,
or it's,
you know,
third and 12 and you're throwing a bubble,
and we have missed assignments on the blocking on the perimeter.
It's just,
it's tough.
And so there's some injuries now.
They got to get it figured out,
but I am feeling cautiously optimistic about the bus and bull.
Definitely don't feel as good as I did last week,
but I feel like it's up from a Michigan standpoint,
we're going to show me,
don't tell me situation when it comes to calling the games.
Yeah,
that'd be in an 11-point game.
It felt way the margin was,
much a larger and I what were you guys were you guys plus two in turnovers?
I can't remember I know Oklahoma turned it over a couple times we know
moments and opportunities that you guys had it's like running the ball on third and six
right like like in the defense John Matier had a day don't don't get toys
good quarterbacks are going to do well against defenses but I he's a stud they did
great from the 20 to the 20 I thought the Michigan defense did an amazing job and the
the times they gave up points was a reflection of how the offense can get a can stay on the field and
sustain drives you go three and out three and out eventually your your defense is going to get
tired you're putting them in a very bad position that way so it's got to be you got to play more
complimentary football and we got to show a level of life back home in the big house against central
michigan which i hope they got i'm saying that right at central michigan but to add to answer the
question by drunk duck co i'm a little yeah heart rate
it's a little more elevated than how I was talking last week.
You, yeah, there should still be optimism there.
I reached out to our partners over at Fanduil,
got the lines, what they would be
if they were to give us a line on Nebraska,
on the bussen bowl right now,
Michigan is favored by three and a half.
On a neutral field, they're favored by six and a half.
Over under on that game right now, again, right now, 45 and a half.
You got, I mean, we had...
You guys are still favored.
Barry, our corner got hurt.
We had a safety get hurt.
We had our left guard who was a captain.
Al-Hadid. He got hurt.
Klein was hurt. I mean, buddy, it was Samaj Morgan. He gets hit late. That should have been a
penalty. And he ends up, he didn't seem like himself after he got hit.
Yeah, it's tough, man. It's tough. Onward, though, because we got a lot of stuff to
cover. Arizona State upset by Mississippi State, for the love of God.
Listen, I would have to go back and look and watch, but I was doing the same thing
when I saw this against Texas last year in the college football playoff. But that last drive
by Arizona State's defense, the play that Mississippi State scored on,
there was nobody in the back end.
I'm pretty sure they ran a cover zero or a simulated cover zero on that play when they got
scored on.
And if you go back to the tape against Texas and the college football playoff last year,
when Texas scored on that in OT, they were in a simulated-esque cover zero as well.
And it's kind of like it's cover zero.
And it seems like the DBs are playing some type of zone where they're thinking somebody's
going to pass somebody off.
I have no clue.
I don't know.
Love Dilley.
Love Dilley,
but I don't know.
That's one where I'm like,
what,
what is Arizona State doing?
Yeah,
because they should have walked away
from that game.
Winning.
Winning.
They were down.
Was it 17-0 or 14-0?
Something like that.
And Dilliam said in this post-game press conference.
Like,
we're one or two plays away from being like,
what an amazing comeback it was
traveling across the country
against Mississippi State and the Bulldogs.
Like,
that is shit that gets you beat.
It beat you in the playoffs.
You should have beat Texas than playoffs
And now you do the same shit again
Against an inferior opponent
And last year when they played
The game went to overtime
So it's not like Dillie didn't have anything to pull from
Either going into the week of like guys
This is a regardless of their record
Like they know how to play ball
Mississippi State and ASU
Yeah
They went to overtime last year
Yeah
I thought they smacked them
I know
Damn
That was uh yeah
It blew my mind
I love the optimism
I love the approach on coming over
We're one two plays away from almost having a huge
huge comeback win going across the country.
To me,
this has nothing to do with the kids with the kids out there.
This is,
we're sitting in the film room and it's like,
why are we doing this?
Right.
Right,
because you got pieces.
You got pieces.
You got pieces.
And even if you don't,
even if you don't have the pieces,
you don't run that play.
You don't run that play.
You have the pieces you don't run the play.
You don't have the pieces.
You for sure don't run that play.
Either way,
don't fucking run that play.
Gainesville, Florida,
Jack McPherson,
when we were on the stream,
he was doing the,
Gator chop.
Florida upset by USF 1816.
Last week in the locker room, I said that they were going to get Bonnie
Blue swallowed by the Florida defense.
That was not the case.
Florida Gators, Billy Napier, he's on the hot seat more than ever.
Jack, how do we feel?
Hot see it.
It feels great, especially with the Vols going into game day against Georgia.
We have an opportunity to really push a narrative for Tennessee football.
So typically in the past is the first year we played Georgia in week three.
We typically would be playing Florida.
this week. So honestly, amazing time for us to flip the schedule because the last thing you
want to be playing is Florida after losing to USF. There's no doubt. They are not a bad football
team by any means. Talk about shit that gets you beat. What a absolute dumb fucking idiot that
lineman was for spitting in the guy's face when the game is on the line. It's like, do you care
after? Days after Jalen Carter. Do you care? 40 hours after. And that's Florida and Georgia
for you. Just scumbag mentality. Okay. All right. Easy Jack. Easy. Yeah. Yeah.
Billy Navy.
Tennessee Balls speaking.
Tennessee Bulldogs,
Georgia Bulldogs,
friends of the show.
Yeah.
Georgia Bulldogs,
they let us into their facility.
Oh my God.
It's Georgia Haley.
It's Georgia Hakee week.
It's Georgia Haley.
But yeah,
Billy Napier absolutely
is one bad game away
from walking home
from a game.
Oh, Bond, zone.
Yeah.
It's very close for him.
Don't sleep on USF though.
USF and they play Miami
this week.
They beat Miami
and beat Florida and Miami.
They are the,
well,
you guys,
have FSU, obviously they are right now.
I was going to say Florida State, I'm starting
to get to a spot door. I'm like, we got to flip the script.
Florida State might be winning the ACC.
Florida State might be winning the ACC.
If you can get the Costanello, if you can get him,
Thomas Costanello, if he stays healthy
all year long, we got something.
Hey, they might be on to something.
Honestly, a lot of fun programs in Florida right now.
Yeah, Florida, just a lot of good stuff going on.
Florida's got a lot of shit going on.
It'll be interesting.
If USF can pull this off, USF,
is a very good football team.
I don't know what's going to happen,
but they might get,
it's going into Miami.
That's a tough place to play.
I don't know.
It's going to be fun, though.
And I'm going to be too.
He looked good.
He looked good against Notre Dame.
Yeah,
would suck.
Dude,
how about the boy landing?
Just putting it,
lashing on Gundy.
You knew it was over.
Getting beat like he stole something.
You knew it was over when Oklahoma State,
I believe Coop said this was their quarterback,
broke his foot.
Hoss Haney.
I mean,
the moment that happened,
and you just thought, yeah, the ducks are about to put $60 on them.
I mean, Dan Lannie, the night before the game,
Friday night around 11 p.m. Central Time, sends me a video of him in Eugene, Oregon,
in his Bronco, top down with Bruce Springsteen playing.
And you just, you know, hey, Lany's got the juice right now.
He's got the juice.
And again, let's like Oklahoma State say might not be a good football team.
Like, it's Oklahoma State.
Like, they're in the Big 12.
Like, they mopped them.
Moth them.
The way Nebraska did Akron.
Oregon making Oklahoma State look like that.
Yeah.
He is crazy.
No doubt about it.
They look good.
They look good.
Our monitors now off.
Who's their quarterback?
Who's.
Oregon.
Dante Moore looks good.
They got, they got,
they got talent out there.
Corey and Moore,
five star.
Yeah, he's a stud.
Oregon ducks,
Oregon ducks seem like
they've got a little something going.
Ohio State putting up 70?
Yeah, Julian San going 15 for 15 to start his game off.
Like, Ohio State, wouldn't you know it?
They're good again.
That's just what happens, man.
That's a good ball club.
Kansas State, on the other hand, no good.
A.
I mean, it's panic mode.
It's panic.
You've got to be.
You lose the army.
It's panic mode.
Salute our troops.
We love them.
Thank you for keeping us free.
But my God, you've got to figure it out in Kansas State.
Yeah.
Got to figure it out.
That's full panic button out there.
in Kansas State.
Bull, panic button.
Alabama, big, big bounceback G.
Against U.L. Monroe.
I think, who was that number five?
He had three touchdowns?
The third got called back, unfortunately,
but Jeremy Bernard, yeah.
Yeah.
Put a C on his chest.
My God.
Todd Simpson looked good.
Out of the pocket, Delaney Walker was giving you a little hell on that.
It came out of pocket, put a couple of diamonds as a boy.
Delaney knows a couple things about ball.
Delany knows how to play football.
Sometimes he just wants to say stuff.
And then he'll see the tape, and then he gave ties, his dues.
You want to reflect on Delany wanting to.
say stuff look look back at the stream when he's giving us a pump-up speech he telling us all to do our
job when we're sitting in a room i mean you got to do your job i was kind of getting high yeah he's
that you do your job you do your job i'm thinking of myself bro yeah yeah i did we're not playing
buddy come on we're not doing nothing i know but we're doing our part by you know i was getting upset about
the game plan i was getting upset about the game plan i probably didn't
Delaney didn't deserve that.
Maybe that should be something,
whenever we're streaming
and someone's team related to the bus,
if you're down,
Delaney might have to just give a pump-up speech.
Might have to.
Yeah.
Might have.
You,
I will say,
it was a little disappointing
seeing you tapped out in the third quarter
the way you were coming out of halftime.
I'll tell you what, dude,
it's,
you see a amount of injuries happening
and you see the way
the game's being called.
It's like,
I'm not thinking about this game
as much as I'm thinking of the future.
We're seeing so many guys get hurt.
Yeah.
I was very disappointed in how that game just went about and how they handled it.
Yeah, I just, yeah, I was pissed.
I was pissed, man.
I was not happy about it.
We still got two more quarters out here.
No, you're right, right.
It's a one-score ballgame right now.
You're right.
You're absolutely right.
I think it was a two-score coming out of out.
One of the core values of busts with the boys, you know, team over me.
And I was not doing that.
I was not doing that.
with you, man.
Yeah, it was tough.
Yeah, I heard snickering in the back between you and Jack Garrett.
Yeah, because I was losing money.
No doubt.
I did.
I took Michigan with you.
I rode with you.
Yeah, you did.
I did.
Heartbreak Hotel.
But yeah, two weeks,
two weeks until the buss and ball.
Delaney told me as the game was in,
and he goes,
hey, I put money on Oklahoma.
Did he?
That's what he said.
I don't know if he actually did.
Yeah, well, apparently he's got the 18th best gambler with him.
Yeah.
Heartbreak.
What do we got here?
We want to talk about Tennessee Titans.
I love to.
I want to talk about all the games, but this monitor is up.
Oh, okay.
Is Greg on?
No, not yet.
Yeah, let's talk about the Tennessee Titans real quick.
Jack, how do you feel?
I have a list I'd like to, that I wrote that.
Please.
Please.
One of the top Tennessee Titans fans in the country speaking right now.
Going out, yeah, there's about five.
of us now left.
So, and Garrett's one of them as well.
So 40% of the Tennessee Titans fan base is on the bus right now.
Yep.
Playing a mile high, obviously, you guys know playing there,
probably one of the most difficult places to play in the NFL, elevation,
rookie quarterback going in, a lot of question marks everywhere.
I thought Cam Ward look very poised.
I think the issues do not rely with Cam Ward.
The main issues rely on Brian Callahan.
I know that he's a friend of the show,
so I'm going to try and be very nice about this.
Let me get a quick time.
Friend of the show.
Let me get a quick time out.
Okay.
There's a friend of the show.
I know.
We live in Nashville, Tennessee.
I know.
I know.
You can go to my Twitter and see what I have to say.
On this show, I will be nice about this.
I'm not going to say the F word.
I'm not.
I'm going to say the F word.
So to start off, last drive going into half.
We have 45 seconds and we're backed up on the 10 yard line.
And we decided to throw three random screens and he throws the end of the ground,
zero time wasted on the clock.
We punt Broncos go down and score.
First touchdown of the half.
We could have gone into half six three.
Horrible play calling.
What are we doing?
Run three half back drives.
Go to half.
Be happy that you're up six three.
Game plan.
Get more things ready for Cam Ward.
Anyways, not challenging Alec A.O. Manor's catch.
Unbelievable.
In the press conference,
Cali is saying that you have to have not only a body punt,
but a leg.
I'm trying to be nice.
Does Callahan know the rules of the NFL?
So let me read you what defines a catch in the NFL.
A catch is completed when a player secures the ball
in their hands or arms before it touches the ground, obviously.
But it touches the ground in bounds with both feet
or any part of the body other than the hands.
Why are we not at least throwing the red flag?
Challenge it.
His elbow was clearly at some point right there.
could have been indisputable, but at that point, we might as well because that was a huge
pickup.
Fumble recovery on the punt.
What do we do?
We do not run the ball to set up a field goal when we're already down on the 30-yard line.
We take like a 15-yard sack, get pushed back, half to punt.
The penalties that we got, that goes on the players, obviously.
Yeah, there was an all-time graphic that was offensive yards, I think, was 100.
131, penalty yards was 129 or something in that realm.
That's tough.
I think there are question marks about Callahan.
If you look on Twitter, Tennessee Titans fan base, not too pleased.
We'll leave it at that.
One, we'll leave it on a positive note.
Shout out to Joey Sly, getting all offensive points for the Titans.
Truly a beast.
And that's really all I have to say.
I have more things to say, but because he's a friend of the show, we'll see what happens.
We got the home opener this week against a very scary Chargers team.
So if people think that narrative is not going to go away, I'll be there, though.
I'm going to be in that stadium, and I'm pumped to see some football on Nissan Stadium.
But, yeah, that's really all I have to say before I get.
That's really all I got to say about that.
Cam Moore looked good.
Cam Moore did.
Camor looked poised.
He looked ready to go.
He had a couple of rookie mistakes.
You talked about...
Drop balls by Calvin Reed.
I know.
Wide receivers got to come.
They got to catch the balls.
Backed up in your end zone.
Inside the 10-yard line, not running the ball.
That is a big no-no from a play conch perspective.
If you are a quarterback and you have to throw the ball,
you have to make quick decisions with that football.
Get small chunks.
You're not necessarily trying to play for points.
You're playing to have a better field when you're all backed up if you have to punt.
Put yourself Johnny Hecker in a very bad position when he had to punt that ball.
End up turning into Bronco points.
second half turnover by the Titans I think the Titans defense played very well yesterday I think they did
get a lot of questions marks at the cornerback position uh sneed he came out a little bit they kept
trying buddy number 29 I apologize for not remembering his name jarvis thought he stood up when
he needed to stand up and he did a good job Jeffrey Simmons dumbass penalty at the end of the game
however the kid was a wrecking ball all day long scary they're getting home with four that's
something you're excited with when you get the turnover and you're basically
basically in that gray what rabble likes to call is the fringe area.
Yes, you need to run the football.
But if you're Cam Ward and a play is called where you have to throw the football,
you cannot take a sack to take yourself out of scoring range.
You have to get rid of the football.
You have to dirt the football or take a checkdown, but you can't hold the ball for a very long time.
Protection was not great.
J.C. Latham, I think was he pulled?
He kind of got hurt.
I don't think, yeah, I don't think it was pulled.
But six sacks on the game, a lot of penalties.
From an offensive standpoint, you don't feel great.
about it. You don't feel great about it, but it is the first game. It is mile high stadium.
Let's have a little bit of optimism going into week two. And I do.
And I do.
Yeah, playing the chargers.
There was even optimism on the last drive where they can go in and potentially tie it up and you get some drops by a big time player in Calvin Ridley, which is brutal.
Brutle.
Let's rip through a couple of these NFL things. We're waiting on Greg Olson. Eagle has survived the Cowboys 24 to 20. Your boy took the Cowboys plus eight and a half, Dack Prescott. He's never thrown an interception in Philadelphia. That street can
continues, I think from an offensive standpoint, Cowboys look good.
I mean, you talk about Eagles.
I mean, I think they had an off day as far as like what they could put together from
a defense perspective.
And I think a lot of that comes from Jalen Carter from the before they even have the first
nap from a defensive play.
But just undisciplined football.
How many penalties do they have?
A shitload of penalties.
Just undisciplined ball.
Now, I do think the delay kind of throw off the momentum because I think they just got
a turnover.
And then they end up going three and out after the long delay.
But just very uncharacteristic style game for the Eagles.
I thought Dallas played their asses off.
Yeah.
Dak looked really good.
And they were there, bro.
Yeah, they were.
Like that's one.
Yeah, C.D. Lamb dropping those balls is tough because he's a superstar.
He's somebody who knows just been beating himself up because he's like,
this game's on me because he has that type of elite talent.
That's, yeah, I couldn't.
After that game, I was like, yo, Dallas should have won that football game.
Dallas should have won that football game. Yeah, CD land, I'm sure he's he's taking this week extremely personally when it comes to the preparation going into their next game. He, I mean, but he had over 100 yards receiving. He had two, two drops and three plays at the end of the game. The last, the last play of the game has a drop. But he, four, I think. Those drops are tough. The first, the, just in the last drive alone, he's going into the middle of the field with a safety barreling down on him. Should have been a catch. He's paid to make that catch. However, it's a very difficult catch. The last one,
Dak Prescott put a great touch on the ball.
I thought he did an amazing job, put a little arc on it.
However, it's a little far in front of him.
CD being the superstar he is, a lot of times he goes out and gets that ball.
Count that as a drop.
But buddy, if you're a cowboy, you're like, you've got a little bit of optimism.
Because the Eagles are the most stacked team, if not for the Baltimore Ravens in the entire NFL.
They looked good.
I thought they did a better job than people expected against the run.
I thought Kenny Clark had himself a nice night.
I thought Dante Fowler did a great job.
against Jordan Mile a lot a few times,
getting pressure.
Their secondary played really well.
Yeah.
Because I went back and I was like, you know,
part of me was like,
Jalen hurts.
All he does is run around.
Like there's got to be guys open.
But I'm sitting there reviewing everything and Jalen's making like
Dallas had everybody locked up to where they're taking away his reads.
Dallas did have a great game plan on doubling AJ.
Yeah.
A lot of the times.
Because A.J.
only had that one catch,
really one target.
Jalen played really well protecting the football,
not turning it over,
running when he needed run.
Just he beat him with his life.
legs because Dallas's back end did a really good job to where you get coverage sacks in those
situations. Dallas, Dallas, I think is spicy. Shoddy, I think is a head coach. Everybody was
kind of wondering what he would be like. There wasn't a whole lot of expectation for myself,
but even on the first in the first half to where they're driving and being more situationally aware,
Dallas, whereas in the past, they're tossing the ball of the rep. They're not really executing
at a high level as far as the operation goes to where it seemed like they had a swagger. And Dallas
went into Philly expecting to win that game.
I felt like you saw it on all the players' faces.
There was no blinking.
None of it.
And they were pissed leaving that game,
which is I love to actually see with Dallas,
because I didn't know what to expect with Dallas with all the drama that they've had
with trading away Michael Parsons.
You don't hear a whole lot.
Shoddy, new head coach.
Didn't really know what to expect,
but I thought Dallas played well.
I loved Schott and Hummer's press conference when he first took over.
It was marrying the run with the past.
That was kind of his main vocal point that he was talking about.
And he showed it in his game plan.
He started running the ball frequently.
They started to catch a little momentum when it came to winning first and second down.
He added in a lot of play action pass, got Dak moving a little bit.
You know, at the end of the day, the thing that fires me up the most about the Dallas Cowboys,
at the end of the half, you have a two-minute situation.
You have 38 seconds on the clock, and we're streaming this game, and I'm watching at 38 seconds on the clock,
I'm watching that tick down.
I'm thinking to myself, why the fuck are you not calling a timeout situation?
Turns out they already did call a timeout.
The clock was all messed up.
They end up getting three points out of that.
That is the kind of stuff that you need from the Dallas Cowboys.
You have all the distractions in the world that we've talked about at nauseam.
But when it comes to situational football, the Cowboys is a team I look at and be like,
they never do the right thing when the right thing is needed from a heady standpoint.
And Schaunheimer had those guys prepared to get three points going into half,
which was massive in that game.
I think the Cowboys, I mean,
Pressures and sacks-wise, they're going to miss Parsons a lot.
But from a defensive standpoint, I think statistically they will be better.
That's my vibes.
I forget what the stat was, but somebody had brought up that it was when they played the Eagles last year with the healthy Michael Parsons,
like there were no sacks.
And I don't know if it was five pressures or not, but they had more production out of their past rush this week.
I know that that's the same.
It was like one sack and five pressures.
That was a Michael Parsons against the Eagles last year.
year, that's the same amount of stats they had this year.
They had the same exact stats back-to-back with Parsons and without Parsons.
Right, so the production is still...
It's the same.
Like, they're still getting production.
They'll bring you in a second.
We got home to the quarterback and getting those coverage sacks.
We got Mr. Olson on.
Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers.
And guess what?
We have some big news.
What's the news, name?
Huge news.
We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of,
We're starting a trend.
But this one's extra special.
So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band.
Before Jonas Brothers was...
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say,
Hey, Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my love.
little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.

Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers.
And guess what?
We have some big news.
What's the news?
Huge news.
we created our own podcast called Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to a...
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
But this one's extra special.
So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers,
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast,
where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my little notepad,
Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.

This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Lights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
That's where Sports Slice comes in.

Jenchen went.
I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted.
She's an outsider to win the French for me.
And she likes Clay.

Uncle Greg.
What up?
What's up, guys?
How we doing, buddy?
Are we, you're just on a full tour right now.
Car Wash, you had bar stool, the whole thing.
Full tour, man.
I got off my red eye.
I was in Seattle last night for the opener Seahawks 49ers.
Red-eyed home, jumped on Portnoy's new show on Fox.
And obviously, looking forward to chat with you guys.
So it's been a big morning.
Are you going in, is this week one for the youth football team?
And please tell us the name of the team.
Like, we're going to be following this thing very closely all year long.
Because you're calling undefeated season.
This might be my favorite thing that I'm going to do all year.
I cannot wait to give you guys recaps on this wild world of youth football.
We are two and oh.
We've played two games.
We have a buy this week.
The entire school, the kids are actually out of town.
The kids go on like this camp retreat for three days.
so we are completely off.
And yeah, we've gotten off to a pretty good start.
We're 2 and 0.
We got a good team coming up after the bye week.
So we got some work to do.
But yeah, so far, so good.
What's the mascot name?
We're the Knights.
So we're the Charlotte Christian Knights.
Charlotte Christian Knights.
Now, do you give, when you're approaching a buy week,
are you letting them get out of the building and enjoying their vacation time?
Are you still bringing them in and you got to do some self-scouting?
What's the staff doing on the week?
of the bye week and then what are you doing with your players? Because you know in the NFL,
it's like, hey, are we going to get this vacation time off or is coach going to keep us around?
Your thoughts? Yeah. So if it was up to me, we practice every day. But the reason we have a buy
is the kids aren't here. So the kids, we took them to school this morning. Well, my wife took
them to kids. I was flying across the country. They went to school this morning, boarded buses,
and they took them away. So they're going to be gone. They don't come back until Wednesday afternoon.
So we'll have no practice today, Tuesday or Wednesday.
We'll be back to regular school on Thursday.
We'll practice after school like usual, start prepping.
We'll kind of do like a hybrid corrections from last week,
get back to our first fundamentals, get back to all of our stuff.
We always start with us before we worry about them.
That's kind of like our model.
So we'll do our corrections.
We'll do our fundamentals.
We'll do all of our stuff on Thursday.
And then we'll start getting into game prep for the team that we play next week.
and then Friday we'll come in.
We'll do like an hour and a half practice.
We'll watch the game film from our first two weeks,
like in person in the classroom.
Love that.
I'll make like a mini cut up of like the plays we've got to watch
that we've got to correct off of.
And so that'll wrap.
We'll be off on the weekend and then we'll get back to work on Monday.
So that's our buy schedule.
We'll get two good days in this week.
Greg, speaking, staying on the buy week.
You got a lot of guys.
You start two and know you have a very early buy in this season.
How do you stop your players from getting big heads
and feeling like, hey, we're going to roll over everybody this year.
Yeah, we're pretty good at that.
We're pretty good at like the humbling approach.
Like we've played okay.
I wouldn't say we've played great.
I think we have a good team.
We have really talented kids and like we're tough and we play hard, like all those things.
We've been a little sloppy.
So we, the nice thing is, you know, it's like it's no different than what we saw yesterday
in week one in the NFL.
There's a lot of teams that walked into the locker room one and oh.
and when that euphoria kind of wears off and you kind of take a deep breath and you come back in and you watch the film, you're like, oh my God, we're not that good.
Like we got a lot of things to do, but it's a lot easier being one and O coaching off wins.
That's the same thing for us.
So we've got a lot of things we need to get better at.
We've got a lot of things that we can improve on our operation, some ball security.
But the one thing I will say, our kids play hard.
Like our kids are physical.
They run to the ball.
we're not always in the right spot.
We've, we overrun some plays.
We don't fit the right gaps in the run game.
You know, we can coach all that.
We run, we hit, we tackle.
And that's what we've stressed all summer.
As the year goes on, we'll clean up the operation.
We'll clean up some of the details, the penalties, the blown assignments.
Like, that's just part of being young.
I mean, we saw that yesterday with professionals.
So that part we always expect early on.
But the one thing we do do is,
We play fast and we play hard.
Is the team next week?
How are they?
What is their record?
Is this team you got circled on the schedule right now?
Yeah, they're undefeated.
They're a local, their high school is like a local powerhouse.
So they're a K through 12 private school like we are.
Their high school team is really talented.
They've got kids going all over the country for college.
And they run a really good program.
It's called Providence Day School.
Chad Greer, Will Greer's father is the coach.
coach. And so they do a nice job. They've got a nice high school program. So, you know, like anything,
it trickles down. Kids come to that school as middle schoolers because they know it's a good high
school. That's kind of like what our school is. Our high school is really talented. We're a little
smaller than them. We don't have as many kids, but we're good. Our running backs going to Nebraska,
will, by the way. Yes, I remember you saying that on the bus. Shout out to Nebraska. Big red looking
nice, too. Yeah, good win. Nice job. But anyway, so yeah, it's a big game. They're right up the street from us.
they're a mile away. It's a rivalry game and we've got to come ready to play.
Rivalry game. I love too how he's doing a good job of lifting up the opponent and not giving
him any bulletin board material going into the game week. No doubt about it. When you play this game,
you talk about you're playing two teams that are undefeated and both high school teams are big.
Now, I know there's been rumors swirling around the Charlotte County area saying that when Greg
Olson's kids are old enough, he might be taking over the head coaching job at high school.
Those are just rumors at this point. They're on the message boards.
I've been seeing the message boards.
I got a log in.
I got a subscription.
Right.
You dive in.
Those message boards are going hot.
Remember message boards?
Yeah.
They're still hot.
It's called Reddit.
They get this shit going now, man.
I haven't been on Reddit because it's toxic.
But I'll tell you, growing up as a kid, man, you wanted to know where you stood in the New Jersey
high school.
You went to like nj.com.
You signed up for a forum.
Yeah.
And you'd be like, is anybody talking about me?
Oh, yeah.
That's your name and you're kind of like, oh, shit.
Dave Luwan was big time on Mgo Blue, which was their message forums.
Every single week he had to find out what the whole community thought of Luan.
Red Sea Scrolls.
Now you don't have to look.
Now you don't have to look very far.
People will tell you exactly what they think of you.
The bird will tell you anything you have to know.
But you play this team.
It's a tough world out there.
You play this team.
You beat this team.
Are you Kikley and a couple of guys maybe going over to some of those kids saying,
hey, you want to be a part of a championship program?
This is the place for you.
You're only a mile away.
Not on the field.
No, yeah.
But what's the juice boxes are in?
and the orange slices are given out. Once the oranges, once the oranges are passed out, then it's free game.
Timmy, it looks pretty good out there. I'll tell you what, man. We could use you at cornerback next year.
You know what? And this is the God's honest truth. And you guys know, like, the high school world nowadays is the Wild West.
I mean, there are kids transferring during the season. There's kids transferring a week before the season.
There's kids that are going to three or four high schools over their four-year high school journey and not even blinking.
So the idea of movement and the idea of kids bouncing around is obviously, we all understand is just the reality.
I will say though, like we are not like, I'm not calling kids out of the blue and pleading for them to come to our school.
We do hear from a lot of families that reach out to us, reach out through the school.
What we want our recruiting, I'm just speaking from the middle school.
Our recruiting is when you come watch the game.
you watch our team play and you watch your team play. And this isn't always the case. I'm just saying
this is our goal. We want you to walk out and be like my kid loves football. I want him to be
coached there. Like I want him to be on that team. They're organized. They play hard. They're fast.
They're multiple. Their kids are playing real, real football that I could see being a good springboard
as my kid gets into high school. Like to me, that's our recruiting. And,
we've lost games.
We haven't won every game by 100.
That's what we're trying to build,
the ground swell we're trying to do.
That's our recruiting.
And then if you reach out to us
and you're interested in coming,
we'll see what we can do about getting you in
and going through that whole process.
But we're not going to apologize for that.
We're going to try to put a brand to football
that if you care about football
and your kid cares about football,
we want you to see us and say,
that's where our kid needs to be.
If your team's worth of shit,
social media person right now.
They need to be clipping that, running it for whenever recruits do come into the office.
That's the first thing they see in here.
Yeah.
You know what I'm saying?
Absolutely.
And start kind of building that from the inside out.
I'll say this.
You talked about when people want to come in, we'll say, we'll see what we can do if they can fit into the culture.
Have you had to go through that as a head coach where you have to look at another kid and be like, hey, there's 12 other teams in this league that are going to watch you, but unfortunately it's not this team.
we well typically the kids that want to come are we know are pretty good players um but at our school
and this is a credit to the school we don't have a lot of turnover and it's not a very big school so
we got like 110 115 kids in a grade give or take um so it's a relatively small school so
there's only so many spots right you know you'd say there's 50 boys 50 to 60 boys in a grade
on average. So there's just, there's not a lot of numbers. There's not a lot of empty seats.
You know, so we could have, we could get 20 new kids to come play football for us next year if we
wanted to. Like, it's not hard. It's just hard getting everybody in because kids don't leave our
school. So there's a couple spots and obviously admissions does a nice job trying to spread them
around in multi-sports and guys and girls and performing arts. And there's a lot of amounts that
need to be fed. So we, we are not at a school. Some of the
schools around us that we compete against, if a good kid wants to come, it's a 100% admission.
They're in. That's not the case at our school. So we don't get everybody. We probably don't get
half the kids who want to come play for us. And that's just the nature of the business. We get as
many as we can. The vast majority of our team that we coach are kids that are just at our school.
They've been there since they were in kindergarten. They've worked their way up. And now they're in
seventh and eighth grade and they're eligible to play on the team. That of our 50s,
kids, I'd say 40 plus have gone to school there their whole life.
Greg, are you doing a good job of shaking the right hands, going to the right booster
events to make sure whenever a kid does come across your radar, you're doing everything
you can to get this kid on your football team?
I'm the booster.
Oh, okay.
All right.
So some leverage.
Money bags.
It's easy.
A follow-up question.
If you guys have a bad or a poor defensive performance, will you, you will you
you make Luke Keekley available to the media next week on Bustin with the boys?
Yes.
Yes. I think we can get Luke signed up.
I think we might have to do like a two shot and we'll get some analysis of his defensive
unit.
I think that's a great idea.
We got to get down there, bro.
I know.
As the head coach, as the head coach, I got to stand at the podium.
Right.
No doubt.
No question.
You guys know that.
But we'll give you a list.
Listen, we got to speak to Keekley.
Right.
If things don't go the way and it didn't go your way because of the defensive game
plan. You can say all the right things in the world, by the end of the day, the media wants
to talk to the person responsible for the downfall.
If the running backs aren't getting up. You should have to face that fire.
If the running backs aren't getting a buck 50 on the ground, Jonathan Stewart, we got to see
him at the podium. Were you able to see Syracuse get beat and Fran Brown after the game made
his team run sprints? I did. I didn't love it. You didn't love it. That's not you.
I didn't love it. That's not me. Like, and again, I'm all about accountability. I'm all
about, hey, we have a certain standard here. We didn't live up to it. And you got to
make it known. This is college football is big boy ball now. Like I that there's no, it's not for the
faint of heart. I don't love the idea of doing it right on the game field in front of the crowd.
It feels a little like look at me. We care more than anybody else. Like I think you can get your
message across to your team when you're not happy with the performance, which all coaches do.
Like I've been on both sides of that conversation. I just don't know if it needs to be
sprints after the game.
I don't know.
Right.
It's not for you.
Yeah, you'd be able to handle it in-house.
Like, it's still going to get handled it.
It's a touch embarrassing too.
You go back to look at 2004, Cactus
High School versus Pinnacle Peak.
We beat them 31 to 3 on Cox 7 and they were running sprints after the game.
It's demoralizing.
You sit there and you laugh at the point.
Can't even tell you.
I'm always on the next.
I'm focused on my team.
I'm only.
I can't be focused on people's records.
In high school opener, we had an opener.
We were taking, you got the buses.
going up to Oakville.
And we had a couple guys throwing out like apples
and like different types of like trash, like littering.
And our head coach before the game comes in
and catches wind of who's littering doing what.
Entire team had to do gassers, 10 gassers before the game.
He doesn't want to win.
We got mopped.
Yeah, I mean, obviously you're gassed.
Yeah, we got mopped.
That was a week one opener.
I was a freshman.
And you're like,
Address of varsity.
That's tough.
I always say this.
All right.
So let's ask ourselves, what was the objective of the exercise?
Like I always think back like, okay, what was the intent?
Forget what the perception is?
Forget all that.
Like what was the internal intent of making that decision?
Did you think that your kids after they ran were going to walk off the field and say,
you know what?
Coach cares.
So again, I think Fran does a great job.
So I'm not like personally attacking.
Right.
He has been a great job.
what did they think like all right all the mistakes that we made guys we can't do them again because
i'm embarrassed were we trying to embarrass the kids where we trying to make them say i don't want to
run gassers because i'm physically tired so i'm just going to play better out of fear of being
punished like i want to show the outside world how much we care so i'm going to do it now like
i don't know what the end game was that was the fuel of the decision so like
that's the question that if you can't answer
I don't know what the real reasoning behind it was
you know what I mean like
put yourself in the mind of those kids
you're walking into the locker room and what's your first thought
you probably pissed off you're like oh what the fuck
you do that this is crazy I mean I'm here to play a game
yeah what do we have Charlotte
middle school
you want a powerful football here and
I like do you think it's going to get your kids to
study harder try harder
play hard I don't know I would go back
and reevaluate if I don't like my performance in a certain game, how is my practice? Did we practice
the right stuff? Are we meeting the right way? Do we walk through the right way? Are we installing
too much? Do we have too much X's and O's and not enough fundamental time or meeting times being
cut short? Let's go back and look at our installs. Let's go back and look at the personnel we're
putting in the game. I just think there's so many things that you could check off before you say,
you know what the answer to our issue is? We have to run after practice. I don't know. I know. I agree.
I'm absolutely with you.
And one of the one team that's having that conversation today is the Florida Gator
because they just got upset against USF by last second field goal.
Now that USF team has now been a ranked Boise State team and a ranked Florida team.
And they're headed down south to your team, University of Miami.
What are your thoughts going into that game?
Are you a little nervous with the Bulls?
Yeah.
I mean, when I certainly when I looked at Miami's schedule to start the season, of course,
the Notre Dame week one sticks out.
And then you know, you always look at, you know, Florida Florida State and, you know, and the ACC and, you know, do they have Clemson on the schedule and who's your cross, you know, who's your inner conference now that they've changed the ACC. It's like a mixed bag of who you play each year. I don't think any of us said, oh, that USF game, that's going to be a bear. That game is going to be tough.
Yeah, you sit here. Like you said, they beat two ranked opponents. Just beat Florida. It could be you either get them on a high of high and they're riding that momentum into.
into your place and you're in for a fight,
or they just had the greatest win,
and we'll call it program history,
I don't know exactly enough about their program,
about whether or not it is or not.
But let's just say it's one of the best wins
of the last 10 years of that program
for any of these kids.
Is there a little bit of a regression?
Do you catch them kind of on the low end
of this huge peak energy-wise,
and then they crash a little bit?
So I think it could go either way,
but I certainly think if you're Miami,
you're doing everything.
Mario Cristobal is doing everything,
everything in his power to prop these guys up, show every win, show every post game press conference,
show them celebrating in the locker room, show their coaches running out of the coach's booth
in front of the floor of the floor of the club. That was crazy. Celebrating. Yeah. That was awesome.
Like, I'm showing all that. Like, are you going to let this happen at our place? Like,
are we willing to be on the other side of a moment, someone else's moment? Like, it all depends
on how you guys get to work. Like, that's the messaging I'm sure Mario is doing.
I love that. Yeah, that juices me up.
A question for you, if you were to see one of your defensive linemen spit on somebody before the game and then get disqualified, how are you handling that as a head coach seeing Jalen Carter do it against Dallas?
Jalen, that's a big boy.
I'm curious how that all went down the next day, like in that organization, Jalen's spitting on back Prescott.
Yeah, I mean, I'm not fighting him.
That's what the damn sir.
Hey, Big Don, you talked to him, right?
You're going to handle that for us, make-D-dom?
Can we figure this out?
Now, listen, there needs to be accountability and standards.
And I think what you hope is the case, and just from being around, you know, from talking
to Suryani and covering a million of their games and just knowing how they operate, my outsider
perspective is you don't need to do anything new.
The standards and expectations of the roster, I'm assuming, and from all measures, you don't
have that success that they're not, have been set.
your locker room probably has the personalities that, hey, we have a certain way of holding ourselves
accountable around here. That's unacceptable. We don't tolerate it. I think there'll be an internal
punishment, an internal accountability type conversation. But I think a guy like Siriani is going
to attack it head on. I think when you're a coach that's had his level of success, I think the players
respect him. It's an easier conversation for a coach to confront a player and hold them accountable
when that coach has earned it through the good, the bad, the ups and downs.
He's in the fight with you.
He's in the grind with you.
Like those guys are heard more.
I think if it's a coach that guys don't have a lot of respect for or a coach that has
proven to you, he's got your back and he's not.
I think those conversations get a little bit more like defensive from the player's side
and there's a little more combative nature.
So my gut is they're going to handle that internally and it won't be an issue.
There's no question he was flat out wrong.
I give him credit.
He owned up to it.
He didn't try to excuse it at all in the post game.
But like that can't happen.
That's inexcusable.
I think the culture,
locker room and coaching wise in Philly,
though,
is prepared to handle those kind of things
and not let it become bigger
than it needs to be.
Turning your attention to the game
that you called yesterday.
You're in Seattle watching the 49ers who,
by all accounts,
people have kind of started to like look away from.
The 49ers for the last couple years,
everyone's been like,
this is a Super Bowl contending team.
And then going into this,
game I hear you talk a lot about like hey get back to winning the moment get back to winning
first down Brock Purdy goes out he has two interceptions a couple of bad interceptions could have
very well had an interception on his go-ahead touchdown against the tight end uh with the tight end
who had his first four career receptions what are you seeing from the 49ers offense that gives
you hope and then a couple things that maybe give you a little worry going on the back end
well what gives me hope is Trent Williams is out there at left tackle and he wasn't and we talked
about this a little bit. I mean, and you know the pet position probably better than I do,
but like, when you talk about the Mount Rushmore of left tackles besides obviously yourself,
Trent Williams is as good as it gets. Right. He's right. He's right up there with me. I get
credible. You know, you get, you get what I'm saying, right? So I got, you get Trent back
playing left tackle. McCaffrey got 31 touches, seemed to have left the game. No worse for
where. Obviously that's a huge benefit. They lose Kittle and Purdy, I think, was up and down. I think
when he needed to be at his best he was. That last drive, the throw to Pierceall and the double
move was huge. The scramble, I'm with you, was a, when he threw it, I thought it was going to be
picked. Rieck Wulin just misplayed it, but you don't apologize. You win however you have to. So I'm a little
I'm encouraged because they've got a couple of their dudes out there again. Last year, it was
kind of purdy, and he had kiddle, and then it was really a mixed bag around him. Everyone was pretty
much out. It's encouraging there. And on the same side, I'm a little concerned, like, do they
have enough firepower? How long is Kittle going to be out with the hamstring? Right. You know,
Pierceaw is a good player, but they're not going to get IEuth back for a couple weeks, maybe probably
over a month. Like, do they have enough juice or does Purdy continue to have to pull it out? Does he
kind of have to continue to carry that offense on his back, which I'm not saying you can't. It's just a
very hard model to play NFL quarterback when every play is reliant.
on you. So I think they've got some
things offensively. They're still trying
to figure out. I think the defense was much improved.
I think Robert Saul is just a flat out
ball coach. That guy is just
he can coach defense everywhere he's ever
been. So I think that was an encouraging sign that
they held, you know,
Seattle to 13. I thought that was
probably the biggest storyline aside from
the ending by Purdy on that last drive.
Yeah, one of my favorite things about Brock Purdy
is throwing those two interceptions and not flinching.
By every account, could have
just gone in the toilet,
marches his team down and gets a touchdown.
That's unbelievable.
That's growth, too.
That is growth.
That is growth.
That is growth.
Yeah.
I have a topic I would love to just bring up for all of us.
Are we,
is this on the game we're talking about right now?
Okay, if you're still saying on 49ers, go ahead and get this.
This is a different game.
Yeah, I wanted to get your thoughts on Jackson Smith and Jigba.
How, I mean, the electric on my fantasy team.
The kid is absolutely electric.
He had two fumbles in the game, but he was literally all over the place.
I thought Sam Donald did an amazing job from, if you're on the Seattle side,
if you're in that coaching staff, how are you coaching them today being like, guys, listen,
the scoreboard didn't say it will want it, but it seemed like from the 20s to the 20,
they did a very good job of moving the ball.
Yeah, they did.
They moved the ball well.
They've got to finish, right?
I think both teams, you know, Seattle moved the ball well late.
I think through the first half the game, it was a little sluggish on offense.
Late in the game, the offense found their groove a little bit more.
I would have liked to have seen them be a little bit more aggressive on the fourth down there at the end of the game.
there was like three three and change left on the clock cooper cup just got tackled short of the
first down sticks by like a foot it was 10 10 they settled for a field goal didn't love that decision
would have loved to have seen them be a little bit more aggressive there on offense but with
seattle the positive is i thought their defense looked good i think last year they finished
the last half the season that was the top five defense i think mike macdonald's a hell
of a defensive coach they've got some real dudes at all three levels um i think they've
They've got a chance by years end to be a top five, seven defense in the entire league over the course of the whole season.
Offensively, there's going to be growing pains, right?
They got Clint Kubiak, new offensive coordinator, completely different than Grubb from last year, who came from Washington, who's now in Alabama.
Complete different philosophy.
Obviously, they get Sam Darnold.
Completely different approach to quarterback than Gino.
You know, you want under center, the deep play action, the accuracy downfield, all the things that made Sam so good last year with Kevin O'Connell in Minnesota.
lot of what Kubiak's trying to bring to Seattle. In Minnesota, he's trying to bring to Seattle.
So I think both teams offensively probably have a lot of things that they want to get better at,
but I think both teams walk out of that and say our defense played well enough to win the game.
I think Jackson Smith and Jigba is a stud. We had some questions about how they were going to use them.
He's always been kind of an interior slot guy with D.K. and Tyler when they were all there together.
Are they going to move him to the outside? He did most of his damage again yesterday from that.
slot position. He is a tough matchup. He's got great feel in zones. He's a nightmare to play one-on-one
and man. He catches the ball. He can run after catch. He, uh, I think now with, with D.K. and
Tyler gone, I think Jackson Smith and Jigba is going to turn into like that next young wave of
of really high-level wide receiver across the league. Kesey's like an absolute monster will.
I want to bring your guys attention to Miami with the dolphins.
what is your outlook on coach McDaniels as the head coach a very I'll say this up front a very good
very respected offensive mind in the NFL but now with the resume that he has the drama
that's went on in training camp from me on the outside looking in as a player it seems like a guy
that as far as like leadership and head coach ability would be more he his win of the day is
if the boys like the shoes on his feet more than he does,
like coaching and like being a leader amongst guys who,
again, there's drama all over the place.
You see Tua getting into it with a reporter after getting.
Tyreek already losing it in game one.
You see all the stuff coming out of training camp.
Where do you see the pulse in Miami right now with Coach McDaniel?
Yeah, I think it's a great point.
I think, and we all know this from the different teams we've been on,
and different personalities, and whether it's a coach or a player.
Yes.
The perception of a coach or a player, in this case a coach, and their behavior, their body language, their language, the way they do their press conferences, just their whole vibe and their whole, the way they present themselves is always viewed through the lens of wins and losses.
When you're winning, you're cool and it's fun and it's the approach and you're relatable and it's connecting with the players and it's all positive.
that exact same guy when you're losing, it's a distraction.
He's not focused on what matters.
He has no discipline.
He doesn't care about the important things.
Right.
So the unfortunate thing for a guy like McDaniels,
and there's a million examples across the league of players and coaches,
you fall victim to whether or not you win or lose.
You can wear whatever shoes you want.
You can wear glasses.
You can give funny press conferences.
You can be eccentric.
You can be serious.
You can be when Bill Belichick gave his one word really like,
petty interviews and they were winning Super Bowls, man, that's just Bill Belichick. He's something.
But then all of a sudden when they weren't good, it's like he comes across in completely different.
And the only thing that changed was they weren't winning. So it's kind of the same idea on McDaniels.
When you're winning, you can be whatever you want to be. But just understand if you're going to be
outside of the quote unquote box, right, you're going to be a little atypical from what we're accustomed
to seeing, whether it's a head coach or a quarterback or whatever. Everyone has that.
this idea of like where guys should fit into a box. If you start losing, that is going to be
brought into question. And you just have to be prepared for that. I don't think McDaniels, frankly,
I don't think he cares. I can't imagine he's spending a lot of time worrying about it. His number one
focus right now needs to be how can he turn Tua in that offense into what we saw his first couple
years in Miami when they were innovative and high flying and throwing the ball over people's
heads on every play because for a week one performance with all the uncertainty and speculation
going into the season, that's about as bad as it gets. Yeah, I agree with you on all those fronts.
It's like, you know, all of a sudden, coach wants you to tuck in your shirt if you start
losing and it's like, why are, you know, why are we changing? Why are we change you now? Yeah.
And I agree with you. If you got a little quirkiness or something, you're winning and losing,
to me, it's like when you're losing and it seems bad, how is the culture, how is the player?
like what are you seeing from the Miami Dolphins that would reflect him culture-wise or as a head coach?
And to me, it's all the conversations you see that are public with the players, all the antics you see on the sideline again with like to re-kill when he's losing his mind in that in the first quarter.
And just all of that to me feels like, okay, he is a little weird.
I've loved, like since he got there, I'm like, oh, the boy kiddle, everybody talks very highly of him.
That's him coming as an OC.
So I'm like optimistic.
He's very creative offensively.
He is a guy that you would love to play for
because he's not that tight ass that is just on you all the time.
So you would enjoy that as a player.
But now it's got to do,
now it's kind of felt like a point to where,
okay, he is like that.
And it is okay if the entire team has rallied around him
and buttoned up and the culture seems there
and the guy's a little quirky.
But he seems a little quirky.
It seems like the team's kind of all over the place.
Yeah.
It seems very much all over the place.
Where I'm like, okay,
this could like he might maybe he's not the guy that should be in that chair i don't know what the
meetings are like i don't know what he's like when he is checking guys is even checking guys or is he
just talking about offense the whole time or talking about play calls and everything else i don't know
those things but just the ripple effect of seeing all the antics from the players and everything
that's out there publicly surrounding a team we know what a good culture and a good team operates like
when you're losing how everybody's butt-dub has each other's back it doesn't feel like that
yeah no no no the the worst part about that is is like when you have a good country
have success so early as being a new head coach, you feel like he didn't establish his own culture.
Like he didn't put his thumb on the pulse.
Say, this is what we're going to do.
This is we're not going to do.
And it feels good because you're winning right away, the creativity, all the things.
But when stuff starts to spiral, it's exactly what you said about Bill Belichick.
Now the things that made him uniquely him kind of give like a, it's like the stepbrother
that way that fark seems kind of fucked up now a little bit.
That's kind of like the vibe you're getting in that sense.
When it comes to the Indianapolis culture on the other side, though, they're dropping a 30 burger
on there with Danny Dimes a couple of weeks ago.
when they made Daniel Jones the starting quarterback for the Colts,
Twitter, the whole world is burning the place to the ground.
Now of a sudden it seems like it's a good move.
Well, how do you feel if you're in the Indianapolis Colts building right now?
It's another great example.
When you win, everything you do is right.
Every outfit you wear is fun.
Every decision you make is the right one.
Like the NFL, really all professional sports,
but really the NFL is the ultimate example of winning cures everything.
If you're having a bad day and there's chaos,
going on and you've got conflict and you've got controversy and the best thing you can do on
Sunday is just go win because everyone walks back into the locker room and into the offices
in the building on Monday just takes a deep breath and all of a sudden it's not that big of a
deal and the guy who it just alleviates so much of the pressure so Indianapolis is another great
example they wanted to run Shane Steichen and Ballard out of Indie they wanted to run them out of
the country yeah
alone Indianapolis. How do you draft this guy? You give up on him. How do you pick Daniel Jones?
We've all seen him. And they're like, yeah, guys, we drafted Anthony Richardson. It didn't work.
Maybe it works somewhere else. We're taking the hit for that. I give them a lot of credit.
Like that's hard to admit mistake. It's hard in the NFL. How many teams, and you guys have probably
been on teams like this, I know I've been around it. How many teams have, in essence, sign their own
demise because they refuse to admit they signed the wrong guy, they hired the wrong coach,
that they just can't admit failure and say, we're going to rip the bandaid off and move forward.
They prolong it because they're so sensitive to perception and they're so insecure that they,
in essence, say, we're going to stick to what we trust.
He's our guy.
He's our guy.
And then we all get fired and we all get cut and we all lose our job.
So I give them a lot of credit for trusting their instincts.
Daniel Jones and their mind gave them the best chance to win.
certainly yesterday for one week.
Now, this week, you look very different.
For one week, they look like they were right.
And it's going to take a lot of the heat off them in Indianapolis and across the country.
And all because you win.
Just go win and you can do anything you want.
It's absolutely true.
It's a week-to-week basis thing.
It's like, too, like we bring up when we're talking about McDaniel and then we have the example of Bill Belichick.
It's like, yeah, when the place was on fire, obviously until he got let go.
But when Brady was there, anytime the place,
place was on fire about everything. That's the one thing they did. It's like, oh, Bill
Check, he's saying this, he's saying that, like the play, it's way worse off than what
he's making it seem to be. But New England went out there and shut everybody up.
Immediately. Yeah. I mean, speaking of shutting people up, when you see Aaron Rogers go 22 for 30
for 244 yards and four touchdowns, do you think to yourself, maybe I should get back out there?
No, but I am happy for him because I don't know if anybody comes under fire more so than that guy.
And I've always liked Aaron.
I've always had a good relationship with Aaron.
And listen, he brings on some of it himself because he frankly doesn't care.
And I always respect that about him.
He speaks his mind.
He doesn't care if you believe him.
He doesn't care if you agree with him.
And I respect that.
I thought his year in New York last year was better than people thought it was.
Yeah, he almost took for 4,000 last year.
He had them Week 18.
So we called his last game.
In Week 18 last year, they hosted.
the Dolphins and Aaron was awesome. I mean, he had a great game. He was ripping it. He looked like
Aaron Rogers of a couple years ago. And I just had a funny feeling leaving that stadium.
Like, this guy ain't done yet. Like, he's got too much pride. He cares too much about like his legacy
and what he's built. So to come out there and get like the full circle moment of going back to
New York, beating the Jets, playing really well, I was happy for him. I think if they could, if that
defense gets to where they usually are. I think yesterday giving up, would they give up 30 to the Jets?
I think that's probably not their expectation. That defense has been their strength. But if he can play
at or near that level, they enter the conversation in the AFC as a team that can contend with the big dogs.
I mean, you're sitting with two guys and actually picked them to win the AFC North this year.
Well, there you go. Because of that. You're ahead of the curve. We try to be that way. I got one more.
Do you have anything else? No, go ahead and do your one more. Because I would hate.
to take up, you know, this week one.
I know we're fired up.
I know.
We're fired up and we're already taking too much time.
He's got to coach some ball this thing with this Wednesday night.
Oh, that's right.
Oh, they have a by week.
Oh, they have a bye week.
That's right.
We've got a biweek.
But he's got to self-scouting to do on his team.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Joe Burrow and the Bengals.
First of all, I've got even a couple flowers of Joe Flacco.
He had two picks in the game, but the two picks were in him really his fault.
Joe Burrow for the first time since 2021 is 1 and 0 after week one.
Are the Bengals back?
Are the Bengals going to win it all?
Is it over?
I'll be honest, I only caught the highlights.
I saw that that Cleveland missed an extra point and like a really short field goal.
Yes.
Yes.
Is that right?
That is.
That is correct.
They could have lost to Cleveland, but they didn't.
And again, I'm the first to say, you never apologize for how you win.
It's so damn hard to win in the NFL.
You take them how you can get them.
I'm very encouraged at the job Al Golden brought in as the new defensive coordinator was at Notre Dame, now comes to the NFL.
and that was the big question mark is can Cincinnati play a lick of defense to go along with
that offense? And then yesterday, at least from the box score and the score, again, I didn't catch
much of the actual game, but they didn't put up a ton of points. So I think the encouraging thing
is the defense seems to have gotten better again for at least one week, and I know it was the Browns.
That offense with Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase, like they're going to get rolling. Like,
they're going to find their stride offensively. I'm confident in that. So,
that's always been their issue. Can they play complimentary defense to go along with that Joe
Borough led offense? And if they can, there's another AFC team. And what we're finding is,
because the AFC has so many good quarterbacks, you're competitive and you are relevant
if you have a marquee quarterback. And you look at the chargers and the job that Harbaugh is done
with Justin Herber in a relatively short amount of time. I thought they looked great this week.
there's a lot of really good AFC quarterbacks,
and it's going to keep a lot of AFC teams relevant as a result.
Yeah, I agree.
I didn't catch much of the game either,
but when you look at the stat sheet and everything else,
Joe Burrow did not have a big game,
Jamar Chase, T. Higgins, very few catches.
But then you look at the box score,
and you see two interceptions from the Bengals defense.
It's like, oh, defense kind of helped win them that game to where you're 1-0,
and you were talking about it earlier, Greg,
to where after week one, you take a big deep breath,
you can coach, you can get rolling, you're starting off 1 and O.
But optimism defensively, like I'm sitting there and I'm looking out, I'm like, oh,
Bengals had a couple picks.
Like their defense might be there.
They're going to continue to get better with first year D coordinator coming from Notre Dame.
But you already know, like you sit there and you look at the stat sheet with, with T. Higgins,
you're Marr Chase and Joe Burrow.
And you don't even worry about that because you're like, these boys are going to get rolling.
Yeah, they're going to start going in a crazy way.
You should get that week one out of the way.
Yeah, which you've got to get it out of the way, but you hate to think we got this.
one out of the way if you're the Baltimore Ravens blowing a 15 point league. Yeah.
In the fourth quarter, that's... That's a tough one. Yeah. I'll be honest. That was a catastrophe.
Just killing time to go catch my red eye last night. You know, red eyes. Like my game ended at four
local and my flight was until 1130. So you're like, you're like seeing backwards. You're like in your
room. You're like in the twilight zone. Killing time to go to the airport. I fell asleep,
woke up to go to the airport
and didn't even realize
that bills had won until I was driving
and I was like I'm going to check it
I wonder what the final was
and I looked at it like five times
I couldn't even believe that Buffalo came back
Josh Allen is just an absolute
free shot.
You don't watch that game at all
and at any point until about
three minutes left in the fourth
you're like yeah the Ravens are running away with this
and then all of a sudden
three minutes left in the fourth
they're like down by four or five or six
whatever it is
I mean, five minutes before that, my wife's like, hey, are you going to watch the whole game?
I was like, now the Ravens are kind of putting it on.
I might as well just go to bed tonight and catch up what happened later.
And then I look back and I'm like, oh, my God, Josh Allen really is him.
Also my Super Bowl pick.
Also my Super Bowl pick.
Did Josh Allen follow up an MVP season with like the greatest week one exclamation point of all time?
Of all time.
Especially against the guy that a lot of people said should have run up against the guy that, you know,
half the country thought, you know, he's kind of like a 50-50 split.
and you can make a great argument for Lamar and Josh last year,
rightfully so.
And then you match up against each other in a primetime shootout
to kick off the season and you win 41, 40,
and you are, every single play was based on Josh Allen.
Yes.
And he doesn't get one playoff.
Yeah.
Right.
Yeah.
And before the season, it's like based on last year,
defenses, they have the number one defense and the conversation is going into
this season.
they seem better on the roster than they were last year.
But to put up over 40, that was insane.
Married an actress in the off season.
Yeah, every reason to go and taking the...
Guy is on fire.
Guy is on fire.
Yeah.
Yeah, Josh is, he's doing crazy things.
Friend of the show?
Friend of the show.
Friend of the show.
Also, friend of the show, Greg Olson.
Let's give him a round of applause.
Thank you for coming on, dude.
You're incredible.
Can't wait to get you every single week on Mondays.
Thank you, brother.
We'll talk to you soon.
And two, we'll have to get in a group chat so we can identify,
hey, who's the opponent next week?
Start building some good storylines.
And let's see if we can't get Greg
to give us some bulletin more material for the opponent.
I can get you guys some film.
Please.
We can do a little film breakdown.
Yeah.
I would love that.
Or like something in a speech,
something to where we can say,
Greg talking a lot of shit about the Eagles.
They're about to play on Wednesday.
Yeah.
It'd be fun to have.
A little school bulletin board material.
I like that.
But I was just shy away.
I appreciate you guys.
Thank you.
See you.
Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers. And guess what? We have some big news.
What's the news, name?
And, well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers.
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.

The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis,
and I know firsthand,
because I competed there myself.
I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast,
I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris.
Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay.
Jenchen won.
I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted.
She's an outsider to win the French for me.
And she likes Clay.
Listen, Lena Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now,
and I actually can win on any surface.
Because if she's serving, well, good luck.
Consider this your court side seat to the French Open.

See you guys.
What a guy.
Yeah, that was fun.
What a guy.
I can't wait for just the youth football all season long.
I know.
Luke's in?
I love it.
I wanted to ask him too.
like what's in these first couple weeks have you given a pregame door you're driving home you're like
that was kind of a pee real quick that got the boys going because you could you could you could you
could you i think he'd be cool with it but you clip certain parts and like you know try to build up some
drama and we got to get out there have to get out there for one of their games i uh i talked to my
buddy who is like i told you guys in our pre-production meeting he's in like that charlotte
league. They play each other the week of the Bustin Bowl, September 18. Big week. Are they a good
football team? My buddy's team? Yeah. I have no clue. That's what we got to find out. We got to start
getting on the inside of this league out there, Charlotte. Will, you had the moment because we can
hear the interview. I was curious if you guys could hear the conversation. I was trying to put it
through my headphones, but it was too quiet. But Greg was, uh, I don't know, are we even this is,
are we recording it now? Yeah. Okay. Um, Greg was talking.
I don't know what he was talking about.
And you have your headphones on so you can't hear yourself either.
And you hit this.
Dude, it was.
You keep talking about all these Montessori schools.
It's top of the glass.
Monosurie way too, way too more developed for my dumb ass.
Yeah.
I was in public just trying to be the line leader going to bathroom.
Going to run, run into the lunchroom.
But yeah, you had to, uh-uh.
No, he was fun, though.
It was fun. That'll be fun to do.
That'll be fun to do every week.
We got to go to their biggest game of the year.
I know.
Sounds like it's this week.
Yeah.
They're on by week this week.
They're on a buy week.
They're on a buy week this week.
Next week they play whoever the team is.
Oh, so I guess my boys team is pretty good because he said like our next week's game is on defeat.
That will be the week of the bus and bowl.
Damn, we are close.
I didn't realize September 8th.
I think my buddy is the, I want to say he's like wide receiver.
and running backs coach.
So I mean, I guess he's...
Wide receivers and running backs coach.
Skill positions.
I guess he's got some...
And two of you,
for everybody listening,
tomorrow is Jared Demon's birthday.
Jared Demon's birthday.
Happy birthdays in the chat.
Just catching up on just a good old-fashioned Greg hang.
Dude, he's the man.
He is the man.
I love it.
I absolutely love it.
It seems like he's doing the world tour right now, too,
which is incredible.
Do we want to hit a couple more games
before we get out of here?
Or do we want to wrap it up to...
Do you want to hit one or two more games before you roll?
We could.
we could also do some more tier talk.
We only did one tier talk thus far.
Quickly, I'll just say this with the Chargers and Chiefs.
Incredible to see Jim Harbaugh.
Everyone in their mother's talking about the Chargers,
what do they want to do?
They want to run the ball.
They're going to run down your throats.
They open up that game using Justin Herbert.
They threw it all over the yard.
It feels to me, especially with Xavier Worthy going down,
the Chiefs might be in a little bit more danger than we expected.
How about Quentin Johnston?
How about Quentin Johnston?
Two Tuddies.
Two Tuddies.
And I agree with you.
It's going to.
be a shaky year for the Kansas City Chiefs. Just buckle up.
Buckle up.
Listen, I don't share the same sentiment.
They still have Andy Reid as the head coach.
They still have Travis Gelson.
They still have Patrick Mahomes.
They still have Josh Simmons 30 second overall pick who I thought had a good game.
A couple of penalties here and there.
Lefgarz trouble a little bit.
Joanne Taylor.
He, I mean, plagued with penalties over and over and over again.
But you know what?
You're right.
They're going to have to get grittier wins.
Will, I get it.
They haven't had a division.
The Raiders' offense looks good.
Gino Smith and Chip Kelly looked good on that Raiders' offense.
Chargers, you already said it.
And the Broncos, the Broncos are going to be nice.
Broncos didn't look too great.
They were, what, four and a half point favorites against the Titans?
I think they were bigger than that, and they struggled against the Titans.
But I think the Titans showed up in a big way.
I mean, they're at home, and it's week one.
You're never as good as you think you are.
You're never as bad as you think you are after week one.
I think with the Chiefs, you can kind of beg, shaky year.
I think the ASTW is going to be the most exciting thing to watch.
Ryan Rikell, or sorry, Brian.
Matthew Rikell.
At Matthew Rikell says, thoughts on Aaron Rogers after week one.
Dog.
Four touchdowns.
Guy was incredible.
Dice him up all over the field.
D.K. Metcalf is going to be huge for him all year.
John O'Smith.
I think him and that marriage with Arthur, Arthur Smith is going to be incredible.
Just four tutties, bro.
I'm telling you, I said it before the season started.
It's 4,000, 4,000-yard season coming for Aaron.
And I love that the reporter after the game's asking me,
he's like, I'm happy I beat everybody associated with the Jets.
Anybody associated with the Jets?
And there's a lot of things that we're going to say on the show throughout the year
that are going to be stupid, dumb.
Picking the Ravens on the ESPN, probably was one of them.
No, I stand by everything I say.
None of them are dumb.
But one thing we're looking really good on right now is the AFC North Champions,
and that's the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Yeah.
Because they get their defense in order, which they will.
They're going to be stunts.
Tier talk from D.
Sakura 65 tier talk.
I think the boys need to have a milk check play of the week.
The one that's standing out and jumping out to me right now
is that six-yard reception from Cam Scadaboo.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Trucking three guys.
Throwing three guys.
They're on to the side.
Did you guys see the catch by the Lions guy?
It's kind of garbage time.
Yeah, the one-hander.
The Odell type and got his foot.
Do we know his name so we can shout him out?
Isaac Tislau.
Isaac Tislau.
Another milk check highlight coming out.
Another milk check also going back to Scataboo.
There was a pass protection.
They slid to the left.
A backer came right through that agap,
but he put his face on that motherfucker.
He put his crown of his helmet.
He put the crad.
Yeah, he targeted.
He targeted the defender is what he did.
Scadaboo,
I'm not sure how long he'll be with us.
But buddy, I love seeing it out there.
That six-yard reception.
I came up off the couch with that one.
Yeah.
Tier talk from Mason Tisdale,
04.
Derek Henry is about 600 yards,
11,423 yards away from matching his career school stats, 12,000 career high school stats.
Yeah, high school stats.
12, 12, 12, 12, 1224 yards.
That's a great comment.
And I agree, I think if you're the Ravens, you look at the run game and go, we got no problems there, boys.
It looked good all around.
I don't think you're giving that stat the light it deserves.
His high school stats, four years, that's 12,000 yards in four years.
he's been playing in the NFL for like nine, ten years
and he's only at 11.
10 years, 11,592.
You see the stat they put up about his touchdowns?
He scored 55 touchdowns in his senior year.
Well, yeah, I'm talking about in the NFL as well.
Yeah, him in college, him in high school, him in NFL,
all of it's really good.
Like he is, he's the only football player ever run for 2,000 yards in high school,
2000 in college, and 2000 in the NFL.
Like the guy is an alien.
And when you're watching the Bill's, the Bill's Ravens game,
they put up the stats of his touchdowns,
How many is he's got like 104, 106 now, whatever it is?
He's at 107 just past Jim Brown.
Okay, 107, 108.
And every single person on that dog that besides him is in the Hall of Fame other than Adrian Peterson.
Who is not yet eligible.
Who is not yet eligible.
So Derek Henry first about Hall of Famer.
Bucket, you heard it here first on bus with the boys.
Should there be, this is from a D. Fish.
Should there be any concern after Ash and Gentis performance?
I personally have none, but people are always talking.
Hashtag tear talk.
I personally, absolutely not.
me the question mark is on the offensive line.
They will need to pack a run game eventually because the Raiders do a incredible job
of the play action bang eights on that weak hash right over the backer's head.
I thought Chip Kelly, the way that they're shifting their formations, reloading,
motioning everything else, I think the Raiders are going to be tough.
But no concern with Ashton Ginty.
To me, the concern is more like getting the old line going.
Yeah, with the opposite line, Geno Smith, Smith, the way he was throwing the ball over the yard.
If he continues doing that, they will earn the right to run the ball of Ascent Ginti.
because they'll start moving more guys out of the box.
I like Ashton Genti.
Brock Bauer's injury, though.
Apparently it's nothing.
Apparently it's nothing.
They came out of the game.
Everything's going to be okay.
38-yard reception goes down,
has a little knee-ski,
and now all of a sudden,
they're saying a little tweak.
I've seen a couple things.
Didn't come back in.
Pete Carroll said in the post-game press comments.
He wanted to go back in the game,
but the trainers did not let him.
We need him.
That's a milk-check highlight guy right there.
We need him for the All-White Squad.
Clay text me.
He said Brock Bowers out, season over for our fantasy team.
Because everybody at first, ACL.
Yeah.
ACL, ACL.
But then I saw it could be an MCL spraying.
But if he's saying he wanted to go back in the game, that gives me a lot of, that gives me a lot of optimism.
Crazy stat for Brock Bowers.
Through 18 career games, he now has more games with 90 plus receiving yards than he has games with games with less than 50.
He has seven games over 90 yards and only six under 50.
Dog.
Insane.
Dog.
And he loves steak.
He loves steak.
He loves his red meat.
Matthew Patrick at Matt Pat Zero.
Hashtag Tier Talk with all the darts I've been inhaling due to the Steelers' run defense.
Do I need a Costco-sized carton of cigarettes for the next six months?
I think the answer is no.
I think the answer is no.
I think they had an uncharacteristic day.
You never overreact in a week one situation.
Steelers historically have a great defense.
I think they'll get it together.
Yeah.
And Highsmith, jumping off.
the stat sheet with all, you know, all the attention that T.J. Watt's going to be getting.
Highsmith, he's healthy. He's ready to go. And also, you don't know what you're going to get.
You aren't familiar with what you're going to get with Coach Aaron Glenn and Justin Fields in that week
one from the Jets. I thought the Jets played their asses off. They played well enough to win.
They ended up not getting the dub, but I thought Justin Fields looked really good.
And if you watch the NFL locker room with myself, Will Compton, Delaney Walker, Clay Matthew,
somebody who was 6-7 actually mentioned Alex Highsmith and how much of a game changer he is when he's in the game
compared to when to Tadio Watts in the game.
Something to keep in mind when you're looking at your betting scores.
This one's from ZT3758, tier talk.
Hashtag tier talk, greatest regular season football games of all time.
I think that's a great overreaction on a Monday.
I will say the games were electric all weekend long, all Sunday long.
There are multiple times.
Rews want me to play, I can't I'm like, sweetheart.
You see these two-minute drills on the screen right now?
Let's finish these up, but I'll go hide for you.
By the way, she gives herself up every time when I'm like,
all right, rid or not, here I come.
And he's like, you found me.
And I'm like, you kind of just fucking ran out of the banter.
That Falcons Bucks game ending is crazy.
My, foul is a Falcons fan and he is ready for young.
Buddy, is a falcon's fan right here.
A meca Bucca is going to be.
Dude, he is going to be fucking nice.
And also shout out Baker Mayfield.
Coming in.
Getting a game winning drive.
That's unbelievable.
And save the damn parlay.
We need that in a big way.
Falcons
Great parlay, clump.
Yeah, fantastic.
Great parlay for the first league.
And on your Sunday night football parlay was amazing
if it wasn't for, you know, 80 points being scored.
Generational game.
Generational game.
The under was beating the first half.
I'll tell you this.
Next time those two teams see each other,
I guarantee, I can't guarantee anything.
I can almost promise you it's going to be an under game.
Happens every single time.
You see a couple years ago with Chiefs bills,
how they had this massive over game in the playoffs
and they go play, everyone's like over, over,
defensive game. So when you see him in the playoffs, remember, it's an under game. Outside of that game,
it was a massive unders week. Massive. That one in the, uh, which is sickening because of the
Parlay. Jets Pittsburgh game too. Those two games, I think, are the only two that hit over. Yeah.
Buddy. Week one under is you're going to hit so, so much. That Peyton Manning commercial
with his son, Marshall, it truly showed to me like the difference in generations of quarterbacks,
with Eli Manning and Peyton Manning being the Thursday night game
and seeing how much more athletic
and probably talented Josh Allen
and Lamar Jackson are than Peyton and Eli is crazy.
Yeah.
Because it wasn't that long ago,
but it's like now these quarterbacks are freaks.
It's incredible too, like the mobility of all the quarterbacks.
Like Sam Darnold, Jared Dauph,
kind of the last of a dying breed when it comes to sitting in the pocket.
Everybody, dude, everybody in college can run.
Everybody who's coming up and is going to be drafted soon
can run to some extent.
Like mobile quarterbacks, you're now playing for 11,
just for 10.
In Mahomes,
having that little sidearm
where he was kind of sideways
in that Friday night football game.
Yeah.
I saw something,
a tweet that was like,
Patrick Mahomes is if everything James Winston
tried to do,
but it actually worked.
Say it again?
Like what Patrick Mahomes do,
like that little play,
that little side thing.
Like James Winston's tried that,
but he throws a pick on that.
Pick six.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, Patrick's still Patrick.
That's why you're like,
yeah, you can't count the chiefs out,
but they're from a talent standpoint.
Like, they're hurting in a lot of ways right now,
especially if Xavier Worthy's shoulders in trouble.
Tyree Kill, Tyree Kill by week five.
Tyree Kill by week five to the Chiefs.
I'm calling it now.
I'm calling that now, boys.
Think about it, right?
Tyree Kill is upset.
They just lost their fastest guy, Xavier Worthy.
Who knows how long he'll be out?
Have the homecoming.
They need some help.
You get Tyree Kill back in that Chief's uniform, boys.
I'm telling them they might be back.
They might be back.
They might be back.
All right.
Are we good on any, is there anything you guys want to get out before we get out?
I'll just share another tier talk overreaction.
This one comes for Tanner Haggerty.
Tier Talk is it time for Baltimore to part ways with old Johnny Boy.
He seems to be holding the team back from succeeding.
Seems to take his foot off the gas latent games when play calling costing the team wins.
That's a great overreaction.
Great overreaction.
I mean, that is a he's talking about John Harbaugh.
That is a very, very hard way for the Ravens to lose in that fashion.
It's like when we were on Get Up and they're like, is this mentally going to
to take a toll and it's like, dude, it's week one.
But if any game could have potentially have a mental toll,
it would have been the way that they lost that 15-point lead.
A terrible fashion, a loser football game.
But that roster is loaded.
Defense has got to figure it out.
You know it's massive gut check time because you give up over 500 total yards.
And you got all those pieces on defense.
You said they were statistically number one in all categories last year.
Oh, yeah.
The Ravens defense, I mean, they are nasty.
They are nasty, though.
So got to watch the tape.
Got to crunch tape.
Got a crutch tape.
I'll say this.
If you're a Ravens fan, if you're on the Ravens coaching staff,
Do yourself a favor.
Hold on to Kyle Hamilton as long as you can.
That kid is a fucking stud.
He is all over the field.
He was a all-white team player two years ago.
Was he?
Yeah,
but then after a game,
he was on,
he did a video,
was like,
no,
he's on the other side.
Well,
yeah,
it's kind of obvious.
Yeah.
But you,
yeah,
I see you try to snap.
But again,
still,
you know,
still,
we still had them for a year.
Hamilton?
Yeah.
Five-A school in Arizona.
All right,
that's all the time we have for you today.
On Monday.
Yeah,
we will be dropping tomorrow,
Bustin with the boys back tomorrow for our interview.
Can we just say who it is?
Or do we got to do that?
No, let's say who it is.
Let's say who it is.
And Dama good too.
Well, Husker fans, after that weekend are going to love this interview.
Yeah.
And we do ask them about all those controversial things.
You'll get those answers.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
See you tomorrow.
Love you.
Big hugs, tiny kisses.
Hey, guys, it's us.
The Jonas Brothers.
I'm Joe.
I'm Kevin.
And I'm Nick.
And guess what?
We created our own podcast called,
Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
First people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it, but, you know, tired and sick.
Tired and sick.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Just listen.
We don't care where you hear it.
Your 20s can be so exciting, but they can also be really overwhelming, confusing, and honestly, just kind of lonely.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the psychology of your 20s is breaking
down the science behind the biggest roadblocks we face.
I was six years into my career, the 80-hour weeks and just the first one in, the last one out,
and I ended up burning out.
There was a large chunk of my 20s that I, like, was just so wanting to, like, be out of that
phase out of my skin, and I just, like, really regret not living in the present more.
You don't need to have everything figured out right now.
You just need to understand yourself a little bit better.
Listen to the psychology of your 20s on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is, getting a racist statue removed.
And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is, getting a new one put up in its place.
I'm Akila Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 is about both of those things.
As I was watching these statues come down, I was thinking about what it meant that I grew up in a majority black city,
in which there were more homages to enslavers than there were to enslave people.
