on a phone call with somebody who is a reporter so they can hear the conversation. Very fun, exciting. Dude, you learn so much about this guy and what he had to go through the trials and tribulations in order to be successful where he's at is truly almost could call it a miracle. All right. I'm Bryce Wilcox. I'm from Petrieu City, Georgia. I play football as well with ghetto. I play receiver. I was converted. defensive back who now plays receiver and my NIO is zero dollars same as same as NICO because I'm a walk on but it's it's good it's good to be here we're excited and uh yeah

you can tell the boys a bit through the media process in college yeah couple greatie cats they'll be with us for this entire week the entire week and so the boys at bay area what made you go to Michigan what was what was that that was going to be my question both you guys Georgia and yeah west coast and wall on at the University of Michigan. Well, I was actually planning on going to Columbia University in New York to play Ivy League football. And I didn't really work out.

And then... There's no, that's why I didn't... That's why I didn't work. That's why it was. But my older brother, Lucas Androgato, played running back at Michigan. And when the whole Columbia thing fizzled out, I ended up, like, asking him to send Coach Hardball in my film.

And then he was like, yeah, you can play, be a walk on here. So I ended up going to Michigan and as a DB and then within the first week was switched to running back because we had no walk on or no scout running backs. So I had never played offense before. So did that for a year. Did not work out very well. They switched me back to DB and then been there since my sophomore year with Coach Kling. Let's go, dog.

Outstanding. Outstanding. Brise, why did you do it? All right. So growing up, I can all. I watch Michigan because one of my best friends. His dad's side of the family was all Michigan fans. And his mom's side of the family was all Ohio State fans.

So we'd always watch Iron Bowl, things like that at home. And went over there to his house. And I mean, like 20, 30 people come to this game just to go watch this at this kid's house. So going over there, I was like, holy crap, they don't play around up north about football. So I'm like, all right. So that's when I first kind of looked into Michigan. And then I was originally committed to Navy my whole senior year. Went and visited.

And it was, it's not for everybody. It's tough. It's tough. So I had a buddy go there the year before and he was telling me like, you don't want to do this. Everything is military. There's no football. Everything is military.

This kid was like 240. And see him six months later. He weighed 195. It was a defensive event. And I'm like, what are they doing to you? He's that we get up 5 a.m. run, just march around campus. And I was like, all right, I got to figure something else out. So I hit a couple camps after my senior year and got lucky and they reached out.

And yeah, that's how I ended up there. Let's fucking go, dude. Let's go. Good for the boys, man. Stoked. Obviously, shout out Chris Bryant. He's the one that facilitated this whole thing. Reach out to me just before we went to Michigan for the spring tour.

I got two young, hungry dogs that want to come and do an internship with you guys. And we've like pussed around with the idea of doing an internship. Yeah, we've messed with it. And there's been a lot of people to reach out. We've just never kind of dipped our toe in it. But knowing that this was like a week long, they approach us face to face. Resume in hand. We were literally in the middle of the gym. We were working out. We were about to either work out or we just got done. No, no, no. We were about to. I don't think we were, we would have been able to talk. True. Kind of conversation.

True. Yeah, yeah. So we about to get a workout. You guys hand us a manila folder with everything in there. How long did you guys work on that? So actually since Bryce Underwood committed to Michigan, I kind of found a tie between Barstool and Michigan. And since then, I've been emailing you guys and Barstool asking for to do an internship over and over again. I think I sent around like 60 emails in total.

Persistent. Once I found out you guys were doing the spring college tour and you guys were coming to Michigan, I was like, I got to talk to somebody. And then I remembered that you were Chris Bryant's OV host. and so I asked him to call you and ask you about it and then from there on it was kind of just like let's go but we worked on our dock for about three weeks, four weeks before we got to you guys and then got lucky with some extra cardstock laying around

and printed it out and had it made all nice for you guys and then it was good. Let's fucking go man. Did you read it? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, we took a good hard look at that, didn't we did background checks on them and everything. Yeah.

Max Reyes before practice I was like I got to get picked today in front of these boys Let's fucking know And it worked out well Promises made promises delivered Well, we're stoked to have you guys, man. It's going to be awesome.

Yeah, it's going to help us too because we've, again, Taylor was saying it, but we've always thought about it. We've just never, like, executed on doing it. So you guys are a good, like, trial run throughout this week because we are looking at doing, like, summer internships. I think we are. Yeah. We're going to do it.

We're going to. Yeah. Yeah. I'm always cautious about this. I know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Staying on it. You did the time.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm a dive-in guy. We will be doing a summer internship. Yes, we will be doing summer internship. Jared Beeman will be running the interns. Yeah. We wanted Jared to do a complete, like, presentation in front of all of us today for you guys, but he snuck in Sunday and gave you guys a little bit. Yeah, he still did a presentation, but yeah, he got around it a little bit by meeting up with them yesterday, bringing him to the bus and talking with him about everything.

Seems like Jared had a tough weekend, too. Mitch Carzzi had himself a little party at the house, and he stiffed you. Yeah, it was Friday. We were, it was my girlfriend's birthday this week, so we were having a little, like, birthday party for a Saturday at my house. house and told all the boys i know g and jp were out of town jack was possibly going camping but and uh shirm obviously wasn't here so i told jared coop and jack and clump those those are the boys who were in the shop like hey we're having a little party at my place probably going to head downtown um and they're like oh yeah was going downtown always in the plans uh for that day yes it was it was brooks decision It was her day. But the decision happened on the day

or that was kind of the invite? Hey, we're going to start at the house. We're all going to go downtown. We're going to start at the house and we're going to go from there with like 80% certainty that we're going to head downtown. It was Brooke's day.

We're letting her choose whatever she wanted to do. Told all the fellas, Jared's like, oh, I'm in. Jared knows Brooke personally. And like they lived in the same apartment building and all of this. Jared's like, oh, I'm in. Like, my girl just moved into town.

McKenzie wants to meet everybody. like this will be perfect so I'm like all right I texted Jared Saturday hey what time you guys rolling through he texts me back immediately ah we're doing some errands or taking longer than expected coop texted me saying he wasn't going to come jack texted me saying he wasn't going to be able to make it clump called me he's like yo I feel so bad I'm not going to be able to come and Jared like he's going to be the one to come through he got two wine drunk or something Friday night. On Friday when we were in the shop, he was even talking about coming.

Yeah. And I'm like... Because we were talking about Goon and he's like, I'll be coming from Mitch's, so I might be a little sauced up. But he was committed to going. Yeah. His latest Friday. And then what the crazy part is he's like, we're setting up stuff around the house, but

if you guys want to come over after being downtown, you're more than welcome. Like, Jared, what are we doing? What are we doing? So, yeah, none of the boys that didn't end up showing up. It seems like a tough, tough weekend for Jared. I wish it ended there. And I hate to do this to Jared with him not being on the bus. Mitch, what time was the party?

I get a text from Jared. Maybe around one or two. Are he out there? Jared just fucked up and he's standing there listening. Jared, I'm sorry. Come on in, Jared. It's honesty hour. I get a text from Jared that afternoon.

He says, hey, are you even sitting around? You all want to come over and watch. Kentucky Derby in the middle of the afternoon yeah not good and hearing about how this is all going down with Mitch I'm thinking back to my text I'm like no way no way Jared would do this but he did but he did you invited post game you're going to Broadway there's no post game there's no post game there's death I invited everybody over when Mitch had already invited everybody over for his girlfriend's birthday party that you said yes to go yeah I know I know I said you didn't go I fucked up. Because you drank a full bottle of wine on Friday, stayed up a little late, slept until, slept in until noon on Saturday, and then had the audacity to then invite everybody that was already invited in Mitch's party to your house to watch the Kentucky Derby.

He tried to make his own party. It's not justified. What I would say is, yeah, I fucked up. I slept in Saturday. I wanted to get my chores done earlier. Chores come first. Mitch had the pregame. I texted him, or I guess he texted me first. I wasn't going to be able to make it. then they were already out earlier than I thought. So then when I realized they were out. That's pretty early for going out, no? If you're day drinking. Well, I didn't.

If you're day drinking, you're in the middle of it. Guess it wasn't clear. That's the middle of the day. So once I heard they were out, I was like, I'm definitely not hitting Broadway. But post game could be my house. No one had brought up a post game. Not a bad spin zone on this. Pregame, going out post game.

My place, I rest my case. No one had nothing to say when I said that. I do apologize. I fucked up. yeah i mean i don't have i don't understand you could have just been like i said i was gonna go i'm not gonna be able to make it i did but then i thought it was a nice little it wasn't like a pity thing it was just like oh yeah and i kind of want to watch the derby later y'all want to come i spent the whole day doing the yard loved to have the boys over i did have some people over and then we had a fun little derby

party man there was a post game that is just imagine bro taylin's birthday you invite me i'm committed to go in, I sleep in and I'm like, hey, I'm not going to make it. And then in the middle of it, I'm inviting everybody at your party over to my house. If I didn't give Mitch the text, that would have been absurd. And then tell you that, oh yeah, I ended up having a party that day. Yeah, we'd be, we'd have a sit down conversation. Yeah. Did you leave Will hanging too?

Oh, yeah. He did. I wasn't going to bring that up. Yeah, he wanted. But he did foreworn that he'd be a little sauced up. Coup also bailed. So once it was two, once both of them bailed, it's kind of like, there's nothing you can really say. I was going to goon.

People were over. I couldn't go. People were over because you invited them over. Yes, so you had plans with Will. I decided to make plans and goge people to come over. I said there's a single. And they're like,

oh, I'm no longer going to goon. No, I'm not putting, you did nothing while doing everything this weekend. I take all the fault. I take all the fall. I missed my prior plans because I got a little sauce on Friday.

So then I was trying to make it up. I was like, because like there's like McKinsey's like, well, make it up to who? Myself. Like, I just lost a Saturday.

Because it ain't making it up to Mitch. I already fucked up. Like I didn't have a, like, do what I want today. I was like just doing shit in the yard. I mean, it was fun, but it wasn't day drinking. So I was like, got a night drink now. Invited some people over. Went to a Thai place, got some good food, some good drinks.

They came back over. It was a fun Saturday for me sleeping in and missing the party I wanted to go to. We're glad you had fun. Man, Mitch, we're sorry, brother. Hey, I apologize. I apologize. I'm in the wrong. I apologize.

Doesn't dive into it. The four nations turn to me. He starts to like kind of dabble. Hey, this is kind of interesting. It is kind of cool. I'm trying to tell Will because my brother, he played junior hockey. He was all about it.

He played the ice and actually played with Austin Matthews back in the day. And then all of a sudden, the St. Louis Blues are in a game seven. It was game six when it started when I started to. Oh, to dip the toe. Because the blues were down. They were down in the series. I was like, man, it'd be cool if they could, like, win the first round.

Because I knew that they went on like a record streak to get into the playoffs. Yeah. But yeah, it started game six. Similar to the Predators last year. Similar to the Predators. St. Louis is down or St. Louis is up two one. Game seven. Three one, bro.

End up coming back and scoring with what, less than three seconds left? Yeah. To go into overtime. Yeah, it was like less than two seconds when they hit that rickettsage shot. What are they call it, top shelf? What would they call that top shelf? Top shelf. A little top shelf.

A little Rick shake shot in the top shelf. End up going to two overtimes. While Will is watching this, he's tweeting out, if they make it to the second round, I got to go back to Bonterre. We'll get some whatever pizza place he's always talking about. Emo's. Go catch a couple of things, and what do they do? They shit the bed. Will Compton decides to put his name behind a team, and they shit the bed.

The reason I was doing that, too, like I was trying to build it up because somebody from the blues hit me up. Gruden had went over the weekend to the Blues and Cardinals and I was tweeting about like, you know, sharing his stuff because he's going to the St. Louis spots. He's going to the St. Louis teams. I'm like, oh, I didn't know

he loved the Blues like that. So I'm like giving that love and somebody from the Blues hit me up. They're like, hey, if we win game seven, we would love to have you out in round two next weekend when it's in St. Louis. Damn.

And I'm like, he's like, I know you're a Bontair guy. I used to have a place on Tertelack, Tertilack Lake, TdL, shout out the boys in Turtle Lake. And so we were connecting over that, but he was like, we'd love to have you out for a game in St. Louis in round two.

And so I'm fired out because it's like, oh, that'd be an easy flight, easy thing to go to. Yeah, and a fun time too. Fun time, bro. Playoff hockey is so hard to beat, dude. The atmosphere is unreal. And the boys just go fucking hard the entire time.

Yeah. And so I placed a bet on Fanduel with Game Six. We won that money line, and it's like, man, they could, they whooped their ass too in Game Six. It's like, man, if they pull this, So if they're up 3-1, I had bet on them right before the game. And so I started to put the, you know, if they win, start to build it a little bit. Put the cart before the horse.

Damn. Bro, I'm watching that live. And when they made that shot, I just said, holy fucking shit. Yeah, when they go to overtime, you think it's over, right? Yeah. And then the longest overtime, nobody's like scoring. They're getting shots on goal and everything else. I'm like, look at these guys.

I'm like, bro, teams that have to go that are. that take care of business in their series and they're resting until the second round. The teams that are going, like, having a war all the way through Game 7 and going into O-T, I'm like, these boys have to be exhausted out there. It's crazy how many games a year they play

and they go, like, a seven series at the start of the playoffs. It should be like best of three, best of five, best of seven. But they just fucking rip, man. They rip around all day, every day. And it's like they're always having a couple beers after the game, doing whatever.

Like hockey is such like a traditional, Like a lot of booze bags in that league. A lot of boozebags, but they just go so fucking hard, 45 seconds in their shift. Yeah. The playoff hockey is awesome. Do you regret the tweet?

No. Come on now. I've told you. You got a way to come months. You had a way to come months. Imagine if somebody texts you during a Nebraska game. And Nebraska, Michigan, y'all are up by two.

And before Michigan gets the ball, somebody texts you, man, if Nebraska wins, we should. blank. How would you feel if you got that text? I would just say hold it off. That sounds like a fun idea. Like just hold that thought. I'm not thinking it wouldn't bother you. Because I remember in the fall. I don't believe in jinx. I would tweet clearly. That's not true. Because in the fall I tweeted something. You did an eye smoke thing, didn't he? During the fall.

The Oregon game. The Oregon game. That's right. The storm chaser. That's why he doesn't believe it. I just did the eyes. I just did the eyes. Exactly. But you were aware enough to just do the Like, hey, there might be a storm situation happened in Oregon. Exactly. And I won't lie. I sent that tweet and I was like, oh shit. Right. Because I started to march down the field.

And then JP makes a comment. I'm just immediately like in defense mode. Like I put the eyes. Like I thought about it before I even hit tweet. You're in the same mode as you are right now. I did the if factor. I did the if fact. That's not a thing.

But you believe in the jinx. I believe in jinx. But I'm prefacing it by saying if they pull it off. I'm not saying they're going to pull it off. I don't know, man. I think I'm a lot of it's called all the 2025. You need to reevaluate going into football season. It's been a tough year of betting for the boys.

Betts up here. I feel like everything I've done to take down the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, I'm now paying for it post Super Bowl in everything that we've done. March Mad is. You gave everything for it. Yeah. Everything. Yeah.

What did it cost? What are we out here chasing is the question. What do we chasing? It might be, uh, I think it's, uh, I think it's, turns around come football season. I think it turns around May 16th, 17, when Jack and I are back in Vegas. Yeah, yeah, I'll be it.

You've been hitting, though. This is, I'm talking about my own personal journey. I do feel like a nice cold. I've been hitting and I have it. Like, when I'm like fully in tune to the games because I was traveling a lot this week, I would just place a bet, but I wouldn't tweet that I would lose that bet.

And it just happened to work out that way. We'll see what happens in this next series with Toronto. Because I am kind of fired up for Toronto. Like one of the, They're the original six hockey teams in the NHL. Them and five others. I'm not even going to say the five others.

But anyway, it's Toronto, Boston, I think Detroit, Montreal. Is the Rangers one of them? The Rangers and then there's one more. Maybe the... No, Philly's not.

Philly's not one of the original six. Anyway, this is boring for. We just ask the question then nobody knows. Yeah, do it. Okay, yeah, I'll do it. But anyway,

1967 is the last time they won a cup. They've had the best record they've had since 1967. And the last couple of years, they've gone into the playoffs and then just like, just fumble the back. of like going under the radar because i i didn't know i still have not like watched the show Oh, the only part of the show I've watched was with you guys. But, like, I would just show up. And they'd like, hey, we think they're going for this person. And then I would kind of just notice how Avery was like public enemy number one or two. And then all of a sudden, she's like halfway through the thing. I'm like, man, she must be just handling herself right in camp. Because it is fun the way like challenges athletically.

Then you add the punishment so the people who win have a little bit of power over to see if they want to get people on the wheel to kind of add a couple extra names. And then it's a vote. So it's popularity. And then it all comes down a chance at the end. Yeah. Like if you're on there. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys.

What do I see? I see Rap. Who's a great guy? I see NFL and pro football talk. All want to talk about the news, but don't want to give credit to the people that gave the news. Yeah. So Wilcompton doing Wilcompton things decided to handle business. Yeah, we had to take a walk. To the walk.

I said my morning coffee. I saw Chefty. He was giving us credit. I did see, I did see Ian, like, quote, tweet the Bustin with the boy's tweet and say, what, deal got done. He said something that essentially gave credit to Bustin, but then his next tweet was writing out everything contractually. And then the NFL uses that because they're paying Ian, so they're boosting him. And then, yeah, the pro football talk, when they weren't giving us credit.

Then they went back by being. like, oh, your credit's right here. So they went in and edited the article to make it seem like they had credit there for us the whole time. Try to make you look dumb. Yeah. And since it's like, you know, I know Ian, we know Ian. I know he's with the Pat McAfee boys. So I know he's like one of the boys.

So I'm thinking like, as I'm doing this walk thing, he'll understand and get the joke and everything else. He did to an extent, but he did FaceTime me. He like, God, he reached out to Delaney. Hey, can I get, uh, can I get Will's number? Delany Walker? Yeah. That's funny. Delaney's like, oh, let me ask him.

So Delaney calls me. Oh, yeah, yeah. give it to wrap and I answered him like oh look who it is got a little shit grin on my face and he's like interesting video you had yesterday and it's like yeah I thought so too he's like that's a interesting perspective and it wasn't it wasn't like it wasn't like full jokes at first it was more of like he I think he felt some type of a little to some type of way yeah I want to make it seem like he he's sensitive he doesn't get it blah blah blah I think he felt like a type of way uh to an extent about the video and so I was just

just like, oh yeah, what was, what was your perspective? And he kind of gives it out. He was kind of telling me why the NFL, like why it goes the way it does. He's like, nobody really gives a whole lot of credit anymore. I was trying to do my thing. He's like, look, I'm fired up that you guys got the George Kittle News, even though I felt like I was on an inside track. He's like, I see Shepty gave you guys the credit.

He had to put a little thing up there. He had to put a little thing in there. But he's like, I saw Shepty give you credit. I even quote tweeted you guys and gave you a thing. But I'm essentially when I'm writing out, I'm verifying. And then obviously the NFL. He's like the NFL, I'm an employee of the NFL. So it's like NFL, ESPN, they'll promote their guys in house who kind of report on the news.

And you kind of know that the whole time. And I'm just like, you know, I was making it seem like, you know, I was just, you were kind of the vessel because it's like the NFL's going. You kind of don't know who's behind those profiles of the NFL. So no, Ian's tied in. He's also a boy. It's like, I'm going to use him. He's going to be the vessel to try to get to the NFL. So I was just doing a fun thing.

And he's like, you know, he's like, if we have to fight, you know, I had to. I had to scrap with that dude at the Starbucks. Then we started laughing. I was like, oh, good. Yeah. So it was, everything was good.

The beef was squashed. There wasn't even beef. Because rap's a good dude. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He was like, I thought he would for sure understand the joke.

Yeah. I was like, I legitimately was just messing around. I think he did know that, but I also think at the same time, he was like, you know, he just wanted to talk about the video.

Yeah. He's like, tell Taylor, I said, what's up, you boys keep crushing and keep doing what you're doing. And I was like,

I'm going to put up a tweet if you don't mind and talk about your little hey i kind of heard about the scrap at starbucks i want no smoke i want no problems but yeah everything was good good what was it with the starbucks um so at the draft if you remember there was a big storyline of two media people like getting after it at a starbucks and it was i don't know who the other guy is do we do we know who the other guy was it jordan shultz let's just make the guy also a friend of the pod yeah i have no clue but i remember they were talking about on the macfee show the next day there's like a big scrap but apparently it wasn't like a it was just like a confrontation there was some yelling and

shouting but i don't think it ever got physical inside scoop world man there's only a handful of those boys that's hilarious because so when it was going viral i guess maybe between you and ian he followed me i think he followed somebody else in the back and he sent a dm like hey love the show yeah yeah he's a he's a homie it was just like when i'm giving him the little shikrin he was like oh interesting perspective i'm just thinking like i'm fully joking around you know i'm saying sholts dm he's like love the show he's like love the show Love what y'all are doing after all that beef was going. Dude, I don't know if this is true or not,

but I'm pretty sure Schultz's dad or somebody was like CEO or like one of like their families and one of the founders of Starbucks. Yeah. They're like that. Really? Yeah. Because I remember getting a, I remember my agent reaching out to me and being like,

hey, this guy, Jordan Schultz, he's like starting to become like an insider guy. Do you mind going on his YouTube show? This is like 2017 or something like that. Yeah. So boy. another version of somebody who their parents are super successful trying to make a lane for themselves just like Arthur Smith.

So shout out of Schultz, dude. We should get a rap and Schultz and a rough and rowdy. Or just on the bus. Just get him on the bus. Yeah. Yeah, we're not with Barcelona. I don't know why. Still fun.

And after about 30, 45 minutes, we got this thing purring. It was one of the best fires I've ever been around. So to go from the low point of soaking wet wood to a really, special fire it takes a lot for a group to come together and make that happen so shout out to a great campfire and it just brings everyone together. God, you're right, dude.

Like, it was like a little potluck situation. But something about having a seven and a four-year-old and being the parents where you kind of just sit in the chair and truly get to see like the village take place where it takes a village to raise a kid, I didn't do shit I sat there I hung out I saw Wynn and Willow

You're like, I'm really just stalking this human. Yeah, and I know he's probably grinning or something. Yeah, just like how many times you got to do it?

literally like all of that I'm like bro I don't I don't even answer my phone like I get off social media everything in off season. So I'm like, y'all gonna be talking to yourself. Like, for real.

And they had been, and they was nervous. They was like, we didn't think he was pulling up. I'm like, I'm a lie. If I tell you, I'm gonna do it,

I'm gonna do it. Where do you, where do you spend your off seasons? It depends, man. Like, either I'm at home in Oklahoma or, I mean, I got a house in Florida, too, so I'd be kind of backing for her.

So you go back to Oklahoma a lot? Yeah. It's my family yet. Bro, your story. Yeah. Incredible story. Is insane. Like, there's been specials on it.

there's been features and everything else. But I would love to dive into you guys, like you just being homeless young. Like how does a dad with five kids manage to protect you guys? And what is he quote saying like protect your guys' destiny? Like dive into that for us because that is, that's a hell of a journey, bro. It was honestly, bro, like in that moment at that time, I didn't really fully understand like what I was going through. because I was with my family and like I was like dang we doing a lot of moving but it was like that was normal for us you know what I'm saying so like I didn't really have the time to like process it

like even throughout all of that I still had fun you know I'm with all my siblings how old are you when this when this part of the of your life is so it was right after my parents divorce so it was probably like I was probably in like fourth grade so for like fourth grade until fourth grade until like sixth grade and then like eighth grade and then like eighth grade grade after eighth grade like a year or so after that and then we was kind of like stable so it was like pockets you know what i'm saying yeah it was like sixth grade to eighth grade and then a yeah then we stayed at the house then we stayed at the house for like a year and a half two years and then like a little pocket again so yeah and the pocket was essentially living out of your dad suburban yeah

or like motels like hotels like all of that anywhere we we used to always try to go to somewhere where it had the free breakfast in the morning yeah The Continental. The condidental. Get your little box of cereal. Yeah, it gets a little cereal. Stalk up, fill in your pockets and everything. Yeah, for real.

I mean, obviously when you sit back now, it's a crazy story, but you were talking about, like, at that point, you didn't even realize what was going on. Yeah. Like, you were just busy having fun, being a kid. Like, what was that experience like in the moment, not looking back on it now? In a moment, I would say it was different because I used to be upset, like, having, you know, one pair of shoe, you know, you're going to have to. make work for the whole year or like maybe two if you if you you know what I'm saying lucky and like

having to like uh you know two or three pairs like uniforms and having to wash them each day or whether it's in the sink or pulling over and like you know going to a little pump side of the side of the road like pumping water like having to heat up water all of these types of things it was just it was what I was used to I never really I never really thought it was something different or unusual until really I got to college and when I got the college it was like the first time I had a bed

you know so like I'm like damn I used to sleep on the floor I used to make a pallet on the floor for like the first like month and a half and my roommate Irv Smith he used to ask me like bro like what's going on like so and when we that was my first time like really processing it you know what I'm saying like really like sitting down and being like okay

this is not normal Like what I've experienced, what I've gone through is not normal. Like, and then it got to the point where like football was always like an outlet for me. And at Alabama, it got to a point where they was like, man, you might want to talk to somebody. Like you might want to, you know, either get counseling or open up to somebody you feel like you trust about what you've been through to be able to like. Because I never wanted to tell the story. I never, it was never, it was a story that was never going to be told because I felt embarrassed by the story. you know what I'm saying like so I never want like even when I went to school people never knew

like only people that knew was my friends because they'd come over and be like where we at right now you know what I'm saying but like like that was really like it so like for me we had a media guy at the time his name was also Josh um at Alabama and he was like man he didn't want to convince me to do it and he was just basically telling me he was like man like you don't understand how many people like have this same story going on or a similar story uh and And you don't know how your impact that can affect and change somebody life. And that's when I was like, you know what? Like, you write.

And then that's what like I finally told the story. Like I never talked about it. I'll tell people all the time that talking about it then was like the first real time I ever talked about. It was and I didn't know how therapeutic it really was for me to finally like process it. You know, so it was smooth. What was having Josh push you to do it? Were you somebody who was very quiet and they were trying to like... Yeah, so I was quiet.

I was quiet, but like... I was like... I was quiet, but I got in trouble a lot. You know what I'm saying? So you're like a troublemaker, but nobody can really know what was going on. No, not like a troublemaker. Like, I did everything I was supposed to do when it comes to like schooling and stuff, but I used to just do dumb shit like all the time.

You know what I'm saying? Yeah. Like I got the trouble for ride on my dirt bike on the quad. Like, just dumb shit having paintball wars in the dorm. Like, you know what I'm saying? It's a very little structure growing up. Yeah, literally, like just doing dumb stuff. You know what I'm saying?

So, like, it got to the point where, like, I had a son. I had my son in high school, my literally national signing day, February 3rd, my senior year. So, like, when I got to my junior year, and that's when I finally told the story, like, my junior year, when it got to my junior year, I was kind of getting to the point where I'm like, shit is starting to get real. Like, I'm like, all right, what am I doing? Like, I'm going to have to, you know, either go to school and be good at this, get a degree and go work. Or, like, I need to, you know, take this football stuff kind of serious and figure it out.

And so, like, as I got to that point where I used to class, like, I class was saving a couple times. Because I just felt like the pressure, you know, the outside pressure was starting to like, all right, you run out of time. and then at the same time, I'm like, okay, I'm doing everything right from the class standpoint to, you know, workouts. I'm not missing no workouts. I'm like, damn, I'm not playing for real. Like, I'm like, what's going on? And then, like, I finally just like spazzed on saving one game.

all right saving cuss me out I'm like all right I eat it you know like everybody especially when you're the wrong you're like all right whatever but then like a couple drives go back and he came back to like cuss me out again and I must have got up and I'm like yeah we had some words and then after that like we got to have time and I was really like this actually the first time I'm actually fully telling this

story we got to have time and I was like I took my pass off I'm like I'm done like I'm going to go transfer like Oregon talk I've been you know I'm talking to Oregon I'm talking to Oklahoma like I'm about to like you know what I'm saying like figure it out of time I'm like it's my junior year I'm running out of time but then I talked to coach locks you know he's head coach of Maryland now And he was just basically telling me, he's like, man, like, you don't understand that this look, if you were to quit on your team right now and leave, like, the look, even if you write, it's not going to look good. So, like, I was like, you know what? Like, you write. I had to start process.

And I ain't going to lie to cry, bro. Like, I sat down and cry because I'm like, bro, what more do y'all want me to do? You know what I'm saying? Like, I'm doing everything you write and y'all still. This might be our Buffalo Wild Wings. Yeah, shut up Buffalo. Just interrupted. interrupting an incredible story.

I need to hear at the end of this story. There's no clue. Josh Jacobs just sitting in the garage talking about Ole Miss Alabama. Half time, pads are off. Oh my God. All right,

so you're sitting there and it's weighing on you so much. You start having tears because it's something that you're carrying. This is at halftime. Yeah, so, yeah, it was at halftime. I started like,

you know, like literally like, I'm so frustrated at the point. I'm like, I'm mad. I want to fight, honestly. And like,

and the crazy thing is, that's the first time they ever seen that sob of me. You know what I'm saying? So, like, they always like, we used to him just being quiet. Like, you know, never say nothing. Like, you feel me? So, like, I was, like, amped up. And so he told me the story like, okay, come back.

It's a bad look, whatever. I'm like, you know what you're right. So we come back out, half time. I'm returning punts. They kicked the ball to me. I return it like 60, 70 yards. And I didn't even celebrate. I just started saving the whole time walking to the sideline.

stared them down the whole time. And then we had a meeting on Monday. And we basically, like, sat down here like, man, what's going on? Like, we started talking. I'm like, man, like, you say that you, you know, take care of guys that you feel like work hard and don't get in trouble and do all these things. I'm like, what more do you want me to do to be able to play? I'm scoring. Like, when I touch the ball, I'm like, it ain't like I'm playing bad. You know what I'm saying? It's just like, I'm not getting too many opportunities. So I'm like, what do you want me to do? If it's not enough room for me, let me move around. Like, you know what I'm saying? type deal. And this was before, you know, you couldn't go play. I would have to sit out of year and

like that. So I'm like, did you redshirt? No. Okay. So you would have been able to redshirt. I would have been able to red shirt. Exactly. So like, I'm like, man, like he was like, you know what? Like that conversation changed everything. Everything like me and him, like we became like kind of like tight after that because one thing about saving that I've learned and being around him is he respects people that talk back to him. And not what I mean like, not be disrespectful, but like have the balls enough to say something back to him. You know what I'm saying? Like a lot of people walk on eggshells around him.

Whether they play him for him or they're working for him, they're just scared of him. You know what I'm saying? So like anybody that got like a little bit of he liked, you know what I'm saying? So after that, I just start playing. I started making plays, start making plays and then the rest is history. I don't mean. But that second year too, like didn't you break your ankle? Yeah.

So my second year, I played the whole season. So I did it like it was Mississippi State or some, I think it was Mississippi State. I had fractured my ankle. I had like a perineal tendon like Ragnacular surgery. So, you know, normally that surgery like is like seven months. So after the, literally two days after the championship game, I went and had surgery. So like that whole offseason I was like training like trying to get back. the first couple games, even my junior, my first couple games was kind of like, you know,

like you know how you feel when you got the injuries. Like it's like you're there, but you're not where you was. You know what I'm saying? It's like a little minute. Yeah, like you don't like the cut feel a little off, like, you know, things like that. So like I finally got back to the swing and I was like, yeah, I'm ready. Like, and then it was also a blessing in disguise for me because I put on weight because I came into college 185.

Bro, you feel? You were young, bro. Yeah. You looked like a kid. Like I was watching when you was doing the hat, putting on the Alabama hat. And how much did you weigh? 180, 185. I mean, he looked like a kid, bro.

It was nuts. Because that was like your, yeah, yeah, we could get into that too, but go on. Yeah, so I end up putting on 30 pounds because, you know, when you can't really walk, all you can do is lift. And like, so that was like one, like a blessing in disguise for me. But, man, the rest was history, man. They started scheming up plays for me. I started making plays.

I'm like, okay, then I started. And what's crazy was the coaches, towards the end of the season, the coaches were like, yeah, you need to leave. I'm like, what you mean? I need to leave. I'm not even a starter. Like, I haven't even started. Like, what you mean, leave?

Like, they like go to the draft. I'm like, huh? So like the coaches really convinced me to even go. I wasn't even going to come out. So after your third year, you weren't even going to come out? I didn't even going to come out. I didn't even think I was. This is the same year that you played all the year.

Boston on Nick Sabin. And at the end of the year, the coaches killing team be like, you need to leave our program so our program gets worse so you can make money. But I'm telling you, the thing about the coaches is a lot of the coaches are former players. One thing about Saban, he always hires former players. So like, it don't matter, he'll figure out a job for you. Like, you know what I'm saying? He's, he's that type of dude.

But so like, they tell him, and I'm like, I'm like, how? And this, I'm getting other, you know, sources, people telling me, I'm like, first round. Like, they say you the first back. I'm like, it's a guy here, Damien Harris that's like 300, 400 yards away from breaking the record at Alabama. I'm like, what you mean? I'm going to go the first round before him. Like, I'm not really comprehending it, but they convinced me.

And then I'm like, wow, like, everything else took over himself for real. What was the reasoning behind you being taken over Damien Harris when he's 300, 400 yards away? Like, was it your, like, catching ability? Like, more of an all-round back in their mind? Like, because that, that is wild if you're essentially the number two. And I wasn't even the number two. I was like two slash three because, you know, Naji was there too. So like, it always moves me away how stacked Alabama is.

Yeah, bro. So like, that was the thing. Like, I was like, but, you know. He's like, I'm not really playing. I'm thinking I probably know why. It's crazy. Yeah. And that's the thing.

So when I asked coach, like when I, I remember coming in, Kirby Wilson was my running back coach. I remember asking like that same question. He was like, you want to know why you're the number one back. He said you played every special teams. Nobody in this building can say anything bad about you. They say you never late for nothing. At Bamma literally almost every practice, every other practice is scouts watching us at practice.

So like the scouts, you know, they seeing me the whole year. Obviously, I'm not like going crazy stat wise, but like yards per carry, all of that is, you know, up there. Catching out the backfield is what main thing that I did, you know, in college. So, like, I think that had played a role into it, but I really don't know, bro. Like, to this day, I'm like, I don't want to ask him, like, how do he feel about it? But I'd be thinking about it. I'm like, because that's, like, if I was the guy and the third guy went over, I'd be like, I would feel sick.

Yeah. Yeah. I would be sick, like, for real. So I don't know. I mean, all I can say is God, right, for real. So they convince you to leave. At the end of the season, what is your process? like how quickly you're now looking for an agent?

Because if it's not on your radar at all, how quick, like, who did you talk to about, like, representation? Yeah. Where do I go train? There's IMG. There's XS. There's all these places you can go. Like, how fast did you have to make those decisions?

Yeah. So it was fast. So right after they used to have, at Bama, they got a, like, I don't know, it's a certain time period where they got a day where agents can come meet you and, like, meet all the guys that's, like, draft eligible. And you sit now, like, with a group of guys or whatever. and you know saving he's under like CAA and all them so obviously they're in there and all them other people are in there um but i had a guy that i was close to uh which was um ryan big ryan and um he had chad my age is sitting over there

so chad yeah brother so the moment i met chad i was like it's something about this dude you know what i'm like i'm like i don't know it then the first time i'm actually kicked it with him we actually went to So Earl's game in Baltimore. And we got in like a little scuffle after the game. And the way he handled the scuff, I was like, this is my guy. That's what I knew. I was like, this is my guy. And we've been locked in ever since.

For real. When you're at Bama and you're not ever the feature back, and I know how competitive you are, how was your mentality throughout your career at Alabama when you're not like the feature guy? Because when you think of Alabama, like you're right. When you came out and said, oh, who's the Josh Jacobs kid?

Because you think of Trent Richardson, you got Derek Henry. But how was that mentality like for you as a player at Alabama when I know how competitive you are? The only reason why I went to Bama because I wanted to prove to myself that I was as good as I thought I was. That was literally the only reason why I went.

Bro, that is an amazing answer. Yeah. Like I literally felt like I, because all my life I've been the underdog, all my life, I had 500 yards, 500 some yards in a game in high school and still didn't have no offers. Didn't you like lead the state in rushing yards? Like two years in a row.

My junior year I had 1,200 yards in four games. Like I'm like, bro, what I'm talking about, bro? And didn't have one offer. It didn't have none. Because you didn't get what, Bama until what December? I didn't get them to a basketball season. So after his senior year. Alabama calls.

Which is crazy because Alabama, the Texas, the USC's. Yeah. Usually their classes are done, Oklahoma. Yeah. Usually their classes are done like two years in advance. And see, that's what's crazy. So when they came, so I started getting, my first offer was like New Mexico State. Hell, yeah.

And I'm like, okay. Lobos. I majored in business management pre-law. Like I'm like, I'm going to go get a real degree, you know, like try to go to work. You know what I'm saying? That's what I was trying to set myself up and make some connections go to work. And so when I, it became like more and more serious, I'm like, I started thinking more about that, you know, but I didn't understand it.

Like, Bama came. Bama ended up coming and then Oklahoma came and then like a lot of other schools came. I remember the weirdest school I had was like TCU. I end up getting into it with the, well, my dad got into it with the recruiter that was recruiting us because they wanted me to play DB. I also played DB. So I play corner and safety. And like I was, I was decent at it.

I was also a lot faster. You see him nod with a little smile. I was decent. I had put like this. When I was in safety, I had four picks in the first four games and never got the ball through my side again. Yeah, for real. Jacobs Island. Like, I was like, I was good.

These 460-pound white kids in Oklahoma his time has been dying. No, but that's why I told him, but that was funny because the dude wanted me play DB and I'm like, I do not see myself hitting these dudes on this level. Because I'm one of those dudes, I wasn't wrapping up anyways. I was just booming everybody, any chance I could. But Alabama came during basketball season

and actually he came, Coach Burton Burns, actually, he was just with my little brother last week. My little brother goes to the UAB. But he was, he was. was just, he was like, man, I'm, I'm out here for somebody else. He said, I'm not even here for you. He said, some guy down the road actually mentioned your name. And so that's the reason why I'm here. So he was like, I'm only going to stay for like five, 10 minutes. He watched me at basketball practice. So, you know, when I see him come in, he got all the rings on, he come

in with Alabama. I'm like, oh, yeah. So, you know, I'm trying hard. I go dunk the ball. I'm like, I'm looking over every time, you know what I'm saying? I'm like, I'm trying to know. So you So then he ended up leaving and he came back like 10 minutes later. He ended up staying for two hours. Mim just sat down when he was talking for two hours. And he was like, man, he said, I'm going to be honest with you. Like we're really done with our recruiting. He said, but one guy that was like, we're trying to recruit.

We're still waiting to see if he can even make it because it's grades. Like academics, he was struggling to get in. So like literally like the day that I went to sign, that's when I found out that I could even go to Alabama. because they called me right before and was like, yeah, he didn't make it. What was your game plan if Alabama doesn't call? I was going to go to Mizzou. Drew Locke showed me.

See, that's a crazy thing. Alabama just calls on signing day. They're like, hey, he's like. I was going to go to Mizzou for a little there's some Mizzou fan on suicide watching. In his garage right now. All the coaching staffs in the world. Like, hey, he's going to commit.

He's going to commit. What happened? No, literally. Alabama? Yeah. Because I had a visit. Drew Locke sold me around. And I'm like, I don't know, this is different.

It was, you know, different than anything I've ever seen. I'm like, they got landscaping. I have never seen landscape. I'm like, wow. Shout out Columbia, Missouri. Landscaping. I'm like, man, this is wild. Good business school.

Good business school, yeah. And then Bamma was like, so I took a partial. So that was my only two visits with Missouri and Bamma, but I took a partial. But I went to Bamma and I was like, first thing I seen was a group of girls. I was like, yeah. I was like, yeah, I think this is going to be for me. And then Jalen Hertz was actually the one that saw me around because he was early and rolling. So like he had saw me around.

I was like, okay, like, I think this is the spot to be. Dude, what was Jalen Hertz's mentality when you were around him? Is it what you see now or is he a little more young and immature? Bro, he's always been that way, bro. No way. When he had dreads, he had dreads. So when I came in, he had dreads. And he's always been like that, bro.

Like he's, he's funnier and goofier than people think. Like, he don't act like in the media. Like, but in that locker room, like, he is. Like, he's, he's a guy. You know what I'm saying? But he's always being like how he is. Just like that. Constantly just putting out amazing quotes.

Obviously, he got some of his own things. So you got to also think that his dad was a coach. So you can think he was. been being trained this way his whole life you know but sabin he's the first that i've ever seen like have a quote for everything in life literally and to have it all throughout the building like he got to send for like literally everything i'm not even playing like but saving he's just one of dudes that he's so different the way that he thinks the way that he prepares the way that he like goes about his business on a day-to-day basis every i've never seen somebody in my life where everything

is so structured and calculated. Like he, like, if I eat at 3 o'clock, he eating at 3 o'clock every day. And if he eat at 3 or 2, somebody getting cussed out. Like, it was like literally like, somebody gets cut out. Like, he was just different, bro. But that's what made me understand, like, why he's so special and why he is who he is. Because he does things that nobody else would do for real. When you go from having 1,200 yards and four games, all these crazy things,

you end up going to Alabama, your first time walking in that locker room. And Alabama at this point, is like there's first rounders everywhere. Grown men. Grown men. Yeah. Like were you like maybe this is not for, at any point were you like maybe this is not for me?

The only time that I was like, maybe this is not for me is when we was working out. Because I'm like, what the fuck is this? I'm like, did I come to run track? What the fuck is this? I'm like, did I come to run track or did I come to play football?

Like what we doing? Did you like that? Bro, one tens. We had a minimum of 17. One tens every time we ran them. We ran them once every week. 17 110s every week. minimum

that's if everybody make their time what was the speed group time what it was like I think it was either it was 13 it was 13

14 15 skills in 13 that's insane that's insanely fast I'm telling you bro you have to run you have to run 80% of your speed to make it on time

I swear all everything we have people passing out everything throwing up so in the weight room you're like okay This is fine. I can lift the weight. No, the way. They had to teach me how to wait, how to live.

I never lived in college, I mean, high school. So you were as green as they came. Bro, I still don't know how to power clean to this day. I swear. I like, I cannot do it. Like, I swear. So like, that is wild. So that's how I put on the 30 quick.

Literally. Literally. I'm like, man. So y'all get all this food? And that's the best part. The food, eating three or four times a day from eating one meal a day to eating three or four or full course meals a day

So I was just quiet But I was always used to just work So like after like you know you get over there like weeks Two weeks you soar from like you know Doing that type of stuff you kind of get acclimated And then I remember you know in the summers The coaches can't coach you right

So like we have like individual like not individual But team ran like seven oh sevens and shit like that Team ran seven and seven sevens with 17 GAs out there Is that exactly? You know every so they got a balconies that overlooks the field. They used to just sit in the balconies and watch us basically.

But like, I remember like everybody used to come up to me and was like, who is this little dude with the fro? Because I came in, I had a fro. They're like, who was the little dude from the fro? They used to call me the little boy from across the street. They was like, who is this dude?

They was like, nobody's heard of you. Like, when I came in there was like, bro, we know. none of us know who you are but like I could just consistently kept making plays like consistently like then we had a camp practice I'm with the tools so I'm going to get the ones so like I'm like am like we scrimmaging I'm going against the ones I'm the only person to score at a running backs the whole day so they was like whoever this little dude is we might like he might be nice and then it got to the point where other players the veteran players like Ruben foster deron pain start coming up to me

It was like, bro, like, you're going to be good. Like, you're going to be special. Like, and then when I start having all the bets, like, I feel like believe in me. That's when I was like, okay, I can do this shit for real. Bro, Ruben Boster was a menace on the field. That whole entire roster was just insane. Bro, that whole defense in my freshman year got drafted or played in the league at some point. Like, you got to think Marlon, Eddie Jackson, Ruben, Rashad Evans,

you got Duran Payne, you got Jonathan Allen, you got all of these, like, bro, it was a deep, like Marlon Humphrey, Leavallis on the other side. I'm like, yeah, that's what really I feel like prepared me because going against them type of, that type of caliber, like either you're going to figure it out or you're going to be like, this is not for me. How much that, like, structure around like Sabin's culture

help you in the NFL? Because, as you know, it's way different when you get to the NFL. Yeah. So I'm going to tell you the main, main reason why I'm, with Alabama. When I went to Missou and they found out

that I was only going to stay for a partial of the time to take half of the time to go because it was the last

recruiting weekend because I was so late to be able to go to go there they made a whole

PowerPoint of how Bama is this and how I wasn't going play there like how my chances of

playing there was very slim and then when I went to Bama and I talked to Saban we never even

talked about football he just talked to me he was like this is how I can help you become a better man. This is how I can grow your relationships and, you know, grow you as a man. And that's what, like, I was like, okay, that sold me.

Like, that was enough for me because, like I said, at that time, I'm not really too much thinking about football because I'm like, that's not really a real reality for me. So I'm like, I want to be good. I want to play. But, like, I want to go to school. Like, I want to get me figure it out. So when he did that, I was like, yeah, like, he's going to be the person that really teach me and help me grow up and develop me and things like that and that's why i end up choosing

them so bama was telling you how you your chances were minimal or that was missouri no missouri was all about football it wasn't about football until they found out that i was going to take half of the other uh you know visit to see it to got you got you so then they like when they started talking about one thing about bama that i had okay they showed a powerpoint of you not playing your chances of playing at alabama all right exactly and that's the thing one thing i say Once I got that Alabama recognition, every school that came and talked to me always brought them up. So I was like, y'all just making me want to be played there even more.

Like, y'all keep speaking on them. They must be the top dog. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, I'm like, all right. Like, so that's kind of how I played out. You kind of had to recruit like that if it's Alabama. Yeah, but also it's like, damn Alabama's on them right now. You want the most competitive cats.

You want the cats that are like, I'm going to beat anybody anytime, like the almost a delusional mindset, essentially what you had, right? To make it in the NFL, to make it Alabama, you have to have to have a delusional mindset. So if you want those guys, why would you play into Alabama's favor that way? Yeah, because you kind of just want. You literally. If I'm Missouri, I'm just stroking you the whole time. Literally. And telling me what you can do for me. Right. We got all this. We got a great business school. But football is going to work out for you. You're going to play right away. We're going to get you going. Yeah. It was even talking about me who?

Missouri was for real? Yeah. I was like, man. I was like, all right. So was Oklahoma ever in the mix for you? No. I know like you don't like Oklahoma or no. No, because you got a chip on your shoulder that they didn't. No, because it's like, bro, I used to have Mike Stoops and them come to my games when I was in Little League. Like when I was fifth, sixth grade, I used to see them in the stands. You feel me?

So I'm like, it's not like y'all didn't know who I was. I've been like, I've been that in football. You feel me? So I'm like, when they got to college, I'm like, I got a, I got a Tulsa University is 15, me. minutes from my house didn't even get an offer from them you feel me so like when you came after these schools I felt disrespect y'all closer to me you know Oklahoma is an hour hour and some change away Oklahoma State is 45 minutes away you've been me so I'm like I don't got offers from y'all

like I'm like no I'm not staying some type of way yeah I felt some type of way sure that's why when we played them I was on their ass but but funny story about that is when I went to the draft Bob Stooks was the first one to come up to me when he was in a meeting room. And he was just like, man, I love your game. He was with Lincoln Riley. He was like, I love your game. He was like, man, he was like, you change my whole perspective on looking that way. Bro, I'm telling you, after I got recruited, but I had coaches telling me, you know,

we are committed to never missing a dominant rough again. After I got committed, after I went to university, the next two to three classes, bro, we had the more people leaving out of Oklahoma than we ever had like the last decade. You feel me? So like it played out. It worked out how it was supposed to. That was probably nice to hear. Yeah, it was.

I was like, I was like, I needed that. What was it like going from Sabin to Coach Gruden? Complete different, complete opposites. You know, you know Gru. I love Gru. Love Gru. He is so, like, charismatic and so like, like, everything he does, he just, does it with energy.

We be in the meetings. And, like, he's one of them coaches where we in meetings and you can know somebody messed up. And you'd be like, bro, get on his ass. He messed up. And he's, like, he's going to praise you when he's going to coach you. He's not going to really too much get on you, like, in that sense. You know, and that was the thing that I used to like as a young guy coming in.

You know, you're nervous. You around all these vets and things like that. And you like, he gave me, you know what I'm saying, grace. And I love playing for him, man. Like, to me, he was a player's coach. He'd go out his way to, you know, help God. all the time whether it was on the field or off the field. And it was like, it was fun for me, man.

I love Gru. To this day, I still love Gru. Do you feel like it was the same for you, like, going from college of the NFL? Like, I've told the story before with Rahe-Morris, where I, like, miss a tackle. I came on the sideline thinking, like, Coach Polini in Nebraska, like, you're getting cussed out. Like, you have this anxiety or fear in your mind to, like, not mess up on the field. And then when you did, you heard about it.

But in the NFL, I felt like it was, you had, like, this grace where they be, hey, if you're gonna miss miss on the inside shoulder and i'm thinking oh fuck i miss a tackle on they're kind of patting me like hey next time it happens like just if you miss miss on this side yeah we had completely different experiences yeah college it was like once i got to my senior year like the guy i could do no wrong like if i messed up the coach you but hey you know what you did right and i was like yeah i did this wrong i'm like all right you can fix that when i got to the nfl i was ken wizzen hunt's first draft pick so i was like his little like his little darling his little baby he would baby me a bunch but bob boasted the office a line coach, any misstep footwork, anything, he was on my ass, like freshman in college.

See, that's how my position coach was. Was he really? But we was cool, though, but that's a thing. Like, I feel like it's different when you respect somebody and you feel like they come into you at like, you know, at a place of respect. But he was on me like that like footwork because I'm like, even in college, obviously you learned, you know, schemes and things like that. But like, I'm like, what you mean you want me to do this footwork?

I'm like, I'm used to this footwork. Like, I feel like I'm out of place. doing the style that you want. And like, that was something that I had to, that was probably the biggest learning curve that I had to do was just like, get comfortable in the system that they wanted me to play.

You know, but that was even like, I remember one time I was, I was going into it with him with Kirby, and he was like, man, I coached this guy, this guy, this guy. He got the calling people like, work done and all that. I'm like, okay.

I'm like, it's a method. It's some method. And then literally when I feel like, I trusted and believed in what he was telling me, like, I just start taking off. Man, it's crazy how much of your respect, how far respect goes with coaches. Because there is always, I have like an issue with authority where it's like, if coaches comes at me right away, I tend to step back a little bit. But once the respect is there, it's like, I'll basically die for you.

Whatever you need me to do, I'm going to do it. For you when you walk into Oakland, I mean, obviously the facilities are way different. They're about to move to Vegas. It's terrible. Compared to Bama. Yeah. It's a Bama. It's nuts.

We've been to Bama. Yeah. What was it like walking into a locker room with guys like Rich Incognito? Yeah. Max Crosby, Antonio Brown, and like Derek Carr, who's like this like perfect little church choir boy. Like, was that just a massive culture shock for you? And it's like now these new coaches is telling me I didn't already have three a thousand yard seasons. telling me I got to prove myself like, oh, like I'm a rookie. You're treating me like a rookie. You're telling me I got to play in the Hall of Fame game.

And then we start losing. And then you feel like you need me. And then you play me. I'll play good. But then afterwards, you're basically like, yeah, you play good. But you're going to, we're on a franchise tagging. And you're going to play. And I looked at him and I'm like, I'm not going to play.

And where he was going wrong was, where he was going wrong was he was talking too much. And I'm not going to say who it was, but it's a guy that made decisions. And I'm like, he's talking too much and thinking it's not going to get back to me and everything is getting back to me.

You know what I'm saying? So I'm knowing what's being said on the inside, for real. You feel me? So like, he basically was like, oh yeah, he needs the money. I'm like, I don't need no money. Like, I can quit playing right now. I'm great.

Like, you feel me? So I'm like, where are you getting this information from? Like, why do you think that you got the leverage when I just led the NFL? in everything there is for a running back. I'm like, so you telling me, okay, I'm only going to be 25 at the time. You're telling me, like, I can't get paid.

So you already deny my fifth year option, which was the smartest move you should have made was to accept that. You feel me? But you don't do that. And then you're like, oh, we're going to franchise tag you in. The franchise tag is $2 million more, so you're going to play it on the franchise tag. But whole time, and my mind, me and my agent, we like, my plan, I'm going to come. So what, week eight, week eight so I can get credit to the season and basically force my way out.

That was my, that was my planning if they don't want to pay me. Was the first fracturing of the relationship was when they didn't pick up the fifth year option? I didn't really care about the fifth year option. So a lot of people think that that was the problem. I didn't want them to take the fifth year office because I knew I was going to get paid more than that. I wanted them to pay me. Yeah, I'm like, it's benefiting me by not picking up the fifth year option. Like, I'm all for that.

You know what I'm saying? Like, I'm like, cool. Like, I'm good with that. but like it was just the fact that I was legitimately 65% of the offense that year and you telling me that I you will not pay the guy that did everything for the team I'm like how do that make sense

And dude comes up to my. car me and max is in the car max in the car with me we sitting and he's talking to us but while on his phone he don't but he's moving his phone around he's on the phone with an interviewer with a reporter literally on the phone with a reporter while he's talking to me trying to try to get trying to get conversation out of you bro so anytime that i know it's one report over there that anytime he had anything to say and they'd be like where people getting this information from. I'm like, it's coming from them. It's literally coming from them. Swear. So I was like, it was like, it was just a weird situation, bro. I'm telling you, it was the weirdest situation ever.

And it has nothing to do with the greatest organization. It's more so the people that they had in there at the time. Isn't it? It's like there's like a saying, right? Like it's like the good news, like the stuff like say you're in the community, like the good news always come from like the local news. Mentally, you got to be different. But, like, once I got to the point where I'm like, damn, I've played hurt all this. I don't play with a fractured shoulder, you know, the whole year from like over half of the year with this shoulder. And now it's time to get paid.

Me doing that is really bad for me. Because now you're like. Then they use it again. You're using against me. I'm like, they might not be as good or they say, oh, you're hurt a little bit more. Bro, the weeks you're playing.

One thing about me, man, I don't, I want, it's enough money out here for everybody.

it would take a full generation of NFL players to essentially bend the knee and say, I'm going to make less money so the future can have more money. We needed you to do it. I wouldn't. But Sundays too. because one good thing also about playing out here is all our games, most our games be in the morning. So we get that whole day. You know, we'd be done about 3 o'clock.

Yeah, you'd be done about 3 o'clock. It's so much fun to play the Sunday night games, but there's nothing more convenient than a noon game. Brough. I mean, if Titans, we do it. Bro, the Titans, we play new. That's what we do. Going to the Titans and being home at like 4 o'clock

because in Washington, we'd have to commute an hour each time. So you don't get it. If you play the 1 o'clock game, you're not getting back to the house at like 730 or 8 o'clock. When I came to Tennessee, and it's like all the games are at noon, except for maybe, you know, one or two prizes. Jacksonville. Yeah, Jacksonville, Thursday night, week 15.

Every time. Yeah, it is. It's the best. It is. Unless you don't play well, then it's like you kill me. Yeah. And then, like, at my house, too, we always have all the holidays. So, like, all my siblings will come up, nieces, nephews come up.

Like, we had a big holidays at the house. So it's been fun, man. We created them, you know, the memories. the new generation, you know, coming up for us, get to experience that. And I think that's very important. Bro, just wait until you're done. Like, don't ever wish it away.

But when you're finished, that first holiday season, really that first August. Yeah. You'll wake up and it'll be, you'll go outside, like, man, it's hot as hell out here. And then you'll think to yourself, oh, my God. I used to be out to this. You used to it.

And then they don't tell you afterwards, like, you leave the stage and literally go back to media. They're doing interviews. Like so for me I love the experience I love Nashville's it was fun

I turned up a little bit and a little bit of time that I had a 6 a.m. flight that next morning so I turned up a little bit but like I felt like it was so much going on I didn't really get to sit down and really just like process

what happened and if I was to do it differently I would have just had a party at home with all my family and all my friends and then figure it out but it was definitely something that I'm you know forever you know grateful for and a memory that I there's definitely going to last all my life what was it like sitting there and you're sitting at the table you have like eight people with you plus your agent and you're just waiting for the phone
