Starting point is 00:00:04 All right, we're good. Bussing with the boys. Hanging. Betting on a... Bussing with the boys. Bro. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome into another episode of Bustin with the boys. This is episode 395.
Starting point is 00:00:49 Now listen. In the NFL news, Deshawn Watson has been named QB1. Cleveland Brown fans don't seem happy about it. Do we want us to shoot or she? Are we happy about it? Are we happy about it? We're going to find out on this episode. Also, big title for you right here.
Starting point is 00:01:01 Put it in bold for you, ladies gentlemen. football is broken. We will get to that on this show along with Kirk Herb Street. Maybe another headline. Go ahead. Will and Taylor are going back to college football. Another headline, I'm game. I'm absolutely game.

Starting point is 00:01:56 That was a great read. Thank you. Because that read right there is a reminder that there are still deals in the MLB. because we all know the blood is boiling. We're in future season. Right. For college football.
Starting point is 00:02:07 This morning as I was walking. For the NFL, it's coming. I'm rocking my five-week-old. I'm sitting there. I have like one headphone in. I've kind of really evolved as a father. Since I'm like, I got the headphone in, I'm listening to some stuff.
Starting point is 00:02:17 And I come across this thing all about college football. It's just Auburn pre-game speeches, Florida pre-game speeches. And it's just like the juice is in the air for college football that essentially kicks off this weekend. Yeah. I cannot be more excited. Do you scroll and do you see my tweet for,
Starting point is 00:02:32 week one where I wrote in my journal last night? No. Like can Clemson actually create some chaos in week one in Death Valley? You want my answer? You want to wait until Wednesday? Yeah, I mean, we could break this down with Josh. But it's more of like a question in my head. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:46 You know what I mean? Like you're writing gifts to Santa. You're kind of like just writing thoughts down. Like, man, it seems like a no-brainer that Ellis, you're just going to kick it off and they're going to be a full force, a top offense in the country with Lynn Kiffin and Levitt. But what if Davosweeney in the A-Gap? Right.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Staring down the barrel of do or die season. And a bunch of nobodies. What if they just caused chaos week one of college? And you look back at 2011, the last time they were not preseason ranked in the top 25. What did they do? Taj Boyd. They go and win the ACCC.
Starting point is 00:03:18 They get after it. They go win it all, right? Won the Natty. And that was in the Natty. And look, Spinzone tinfoil hat. Tipo on, Tinfoil hat. Tinfoil hat. Taj Boyd was the QB.
Starting point is 00:03:28 Yeah. But now Taj Boyd is the QB coach. Oh. And that OC is not. back for a second stint and it is his first year. It's his first year's second stint. When he got hired in 11, all things to say.
Starting point is 00:03:39 That's when they ran in the table in the ACs. All things to say. Thank you, Fandle, for giving us a reminder that there's other sports going on as well and every Tuesday is Dinger Tuesday. We need to scroll back up, Sherm. I scroll back up because we got tier talks and one of our biggest things we talked about,
Starting point is 00:03:53 nope, to the tier talk. First thing we're going to hit and we had a question about it in our tier talk and again, if you want to be featured on the show of Bustin with the boys, engage in the comments that. use a hashtag tier talk for a chance to get on the show. And we have one right here,
Starting point is 00:04:06 which is we can't wait to talk about it. We can't wait to talk about it. But Deshawn Watson now being named QB1, we have one here from Mike Yonick. Should the Browns cut ties with Watson, even with the cap hit, or just benching for the year, taking up a roster spot.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Parentheses, my opinion is cut ties. Hashtag tier talk. Now that was what, eight hours ago he's now been named QB1. That's eight hours from when the screenshot was taken. That was posted eight hours later, a screenshot was taken. And so we don't know when that was put out there. He's writing in his diary.
Starting point is 00:04:36 Right. Monkins already come out, put his hand in and says, hey, think what you want about this, but we have Deshawn Watson. That's our QB1. That's the guy that's going to lead us into battle week one of the NFL football season. Meanwhile, Shadra Sanders fans are sitting back
Starting point is 00:04:48 and they're punching air right now. Do you want to go first? You want me to go first? What are we talking about exactly first? Are we saying, should Deshawn Watson be QB1? Are we going to talk about its press conference where he had zero awareness? I think we just put that,
Starting point is 00:05:00 we just put that in the ether right there. Deshawn Watson had a press conference about getting brewed by the fans and had zero awareness during his statement. We all go with that. Bad presser. Bad press or bad answer. To me, that's like if you're in a room with your boys or your PR team, whatever it is. That's something you say because you're fixing your ear.
Starting point is 00:05:18 Number one, don't be fixing your earring when you're about to make it personal. Because he made it personal. Yeah. And you can't make it personal on the national stage. That's like taking off your shirt before getting in a fight. Like you already know what you're about to do. You got something. You got an action.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Okay, we're going to do this. This is what we're going to do right now. But if he says that conversation. to his boys in a private room. I get that. I get that it's personal for him. But once he finishes, his boy needs to be like,
Starting point is 00:05:39 don't say that at a press conference. Don't say that at a press conference. Don't you dare say that. This team, everything you just went through legally, all the accusations, everything that just happened with you. And $240 million that they just paid you. And the way you played six or seven games a year
Starting point is 00:05:54 for those first three years of Cleveland and then you've just been on a hiatus tearing your Achilles, you haven't really done nothing for the organization. in this passion and fan base, don't you say that. Don't you say it. You have a presser like that shit in. Can't have it.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Because of you, people like Kirk Cousins less because Kirk Cousins made it cool to have a fully guaranteed contract. Yes. And now you're sitting here and the Browns are upset with you. Yeah, you told your killers. Nobody wants to get hurt. Nobody should ever wish that somebody gets hurt. Good. Put that in a butt.
Starting point is 00:06:18 A bow. That's now done. But we had some off the field. Yeah. That came out. Lot. Right? And so fans are probably like, we don't want that.
Starting point is 00:06:27 And that's okay for them to have that opinion. And D.W. also they didn't boo you because you tore your Achilles they were booing you because you were just playing some bad ball and I'm just being your boy and telling you don't get upset I'm just telling you because you cannot say that when you cannot say that presser look I mean bad news for him is we weren't sitting in that room with him yeah there's some other guy going dan probably shouldn't have said that yes man said next one back you yeah man that shit is I mean you got to let them know what time it is you got to let them know what time it is and truly
Starting point is 00:06:53 the time is you just need to fall back fall back or you just say like look I haven't played good ball like I got to play better this preseason is game that the performance I just put on, I sucked. Like, I need to earn this trust back because the organization, thank God for the owner, you name him, you talk about Monkin, give me opportunity. Like, I got to earn my shit back. And I didn't do that out there the day. And the fans, yes, I remember them booing me when I told me I kid, but that's because I was
Starting point is 00:07:17 playing some bad ball. And now that there are over $200 million deep into your boy, deep into me, pause. No, no, no pause. Keep going. You just keep going on. You just keep going. No pause of the presser. It's, I've got to play to that level of pay because that's what you guys
Starting point is 00:07:30 expect you guys pay me i need to play that level and i got to get better and i'm not doing a good enough job right now and just give me one second this earring is bothering the shit i mean just let me fix it i'm sorry i apologize let me just i want to be better yeah i want to be better that's hard for me to focus with this thing dangling on it maybe i should just take it off in general but my yes man said it was already good for me to have that on yeah you're talking like an individual it's 37 years old and it's completely zoomed out from the football world yeah yeah 100% for us to go into a football facility and talk to any of these guys and say, hey, fall on the sword about how you played and say that you have to be better.
Starting point is 00:08:01 99.9% of those guys are like, fuck that. I'm not doing that. I don't know. We're talking quarterbacks. I know. The quarterbacks who operate at that level, you're a starter in the league, you're learning. Like, Shadur's gotten a lot better. Shadur did a seven-minute press conference after we went 14, 17, 17 with a touchdown
Starting point is 00:08:17 to pick. I still enjoyed. I love it. I'm like pro Shador, which gets back to, back to Matt. on cutting ties like thoughts on the NFL players no no no the next one just go back to the other one should they should they cut ties with the Sean Watson yes his thought is cut ties now we know he's QB1 that's not an option right because I'm sitting there it's like if he's not going to be the starter because Shudur could easily be the starter of this team it's like man just I know you're
Starting point is 00:08:45 taking a massive dead cap hit right but you're also the Cleveland Browns like if you're up top there's no more one one year two year planes anymore it's like let's just do away with the luggage and let's say bring this one to your plan, maybe five, seven. Because we're going to be in a bad spot no matter what. Because there's multiple pills you have to swallow here. The first one is the biggest one, which is the financial burden. Your FTA plays.
Starting point is 00:09:03 So putting a quarterback like Deshaun Watson with the contract he has and putting him on the bench. That's a tough pill for the Brown's organization to swallow. Now, Todd Munkin was at the Ravens, correct? Comes over and is now a first-year head coach with a franchise that has essentially been failing for multiple decades. They need to get back on track. They've already said, based on their actions in the off-season. season that we know that this year is about rebuilding, getting draft equity, and building
Starting point is 00:09:29 for the future by getting rid of Miles Garrett, bringing in verse, who's a hell of a football player, but they get multiple first round picks with it. So my thought process is now, if I'm Monkin, and you know the fan base feels that way about Deshaun Watson, I would have. This is just me sitting in that and being like, guys, I am going to put Shadur Sanders in here. And the number one reason why is we need to know what we have at our quarterback room. because with this draft coming up
Starting point is 00:09:54 with all the guys, Dante Moore, Arch Manning, Lenora Sellers, you get a whole bunch of individuals that are like going to be possible top 10 caliber guys. The most likely scenario for the Cleveland Browns is they will be sitting in a top 10 pick situation come April of 27. So you need to make sure that you've looked at everything
Starting point is 00:10:12 you need to see with Shadur Sanders and even Dylan Gabriel. Because you know, if we know one thing is the answer, it's the fan base has said it and the way Deshawn Watson's talk about in his press conferences, he is not going to be the long-term answer with the Browns. So if I'm Munkin, now it's, you have your insurance policy as a first-year head coach, where essentially you're saying, we know we're not going to be good this year.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Let's find out what we have at the most important position in this sport, which is our quarterback. Find out who that guy is. And if he's in our building, now when we have a top 10 pick going into next year, we feel a whole lot better because we have so much draft equity and we can go get possibly the best player in the draft, whether it be a Jeremiah Smith at wide. see for to help our quarterback or you answer the question you need a quarterback now you have a slew of guys by giving him a start for the full year by giving him a start for the full year can i somebody's call me hello yeah okay thanks that was kevin's natural foods that was a clean take thank you
Starting point is 00:11:05 brother i appreciate that clean take that was thank you i like that's just what you got to do right yeah because if dischaum watson again the three years that he has there he's only played up to seven games each season before something's happened yeah and if he plays bad like come out of the gate, it's, we're all sitting here, it's going to be a, just and I told you so a moment national. Like, he's got to play at an elite level on a Brown's team that
Starting point is 00:11:31 right now isn't going to be competing in the AFC North. Yeah. Do you think that's why they're doing it though? Like, hey, we'll throw Deshaun out there. We're paying him $230 million. Let's throw them out to the wolves. He'll get chewed up, spit out, and then we can put in Shudor, then we can put in Dillon. But if you do that... Could be a likely scenario?
Starting point is 00:11:48 Could I just kind of say, like, what kind of the quiet thing out loud for the NFL? It's a team sport. Greatest team sport that the entire world has to offer is the game of football. When you get to this level, not only the players, but also the coaches and the guys on the second floor who are choosing who's going to be on the roster and not be on the roster, everyone's going to be like, well, I got to make sure I have longevity and I can last a long time. Yeah, the cover your ass mentality. is trying to have a good year this year, which I respect. If you're a Browns fan, you're like, Taylor, you sound like an idiot.
Starting point is 00:12:17 We need to be great this year. You don't have the tools to be a playoff caliber. contender type of team. So make sure you can get, you just got to look three years in the future. And sometimes owners don't have that kind of wherewith all that 20-20 vision to look in the future with that coach
Starting point is 00:12:33 and say, okay, they're going to get us there. Then they'll make it cut. We sell all with the with the Raiders. But if I'm Munkin, it's like, I need to start figuring out the pieces now. So in 2027, we're the surprise team of 27. But the quiet thing out loud is Munkin might not have full control.
Starting point is 00:12:48 And again, I'm just speaking. I'm speaking from a lot of natural foods right. there to where the owner's like this is the investment that was made there's no shot that we're cutting him and i'm taking this much of a hit you guys need to figure it out whereas okay he's not playing well and he's qb1 so again the quiet part out loud is maybe and i know i'm speaking out of my ass because munkin might not even think this way but munkin's hands could be tied to where he's got to play that guy because he could be thinking like let's just get shudor in there and get him going right because it Mitch in your world maybe that's
Starting point is 00:13:22 that's a thought of get him out there. You feed him to the wolves. If he doesn't play well, it kind of forces our hand to make a decision with him. But you're setting yourself back because if you already had the decision made that he wasn't going to be the guy,
Starting point is 00:13:34 you could have started off that Shadur Sanders letting him know you're going to be our guy for this entire year. Gabriel, you're going to be your QB2. Right. That instills confidence in Shadur. That makes the team rally behind Shadur and all the things you need
Starting point is 00:13:49 from a morality standpoint, getting guys to come together. That's what you need in that situation. Unfortunately, that's a great conventional foods take by you is that we have to live in the world of Monkin doesn't make all the rules. There's probably somebody sitting there going
Starting point is 00:14:02 like, we're paying him that much. He needs to play. And cash is still king when it comes to truly any profession that we do right now. I don't know if it's devil's advocate, but this is Deshawn's last year. So like, if it is, if it's out of Monkin's hand,
Starting point is 00:14:16 it's like, well, this is his last year anyways. Let's just kind of carry him on the team. for however long like I don't know I can see both sides yeah but if you're if you're a first year head coach you're not like you have no you didn't make the decision to get Deshawn Watson you didn't you weren't a part of that
Starting point is 00:14:31 strategy at all as a team so you're sitting there being like I'm sure they've probably seen more from Deshawn Watson that they're like but that could just be the simple answer is that right now we just think Deshawn Watson's the better quarterback to to get us going I think if like last year obviously the Raiders
Starting point is 00:14:47 fired Pete Carroll after his first year but like I think as a head coach you of like a year and a half like buffer. Say they win five or six games. I feel like that's a good season for the Browns. It just depends how the whole operation is working. If they feel good about Munkin. And again, the optimistic spin of it as Deshaun Watson has your QB won,
Starting point is 00:15:06 maybe Munkin has seen enough in practice and he just had a bad game in the second preseason game. He's played. I know, I know. He's truly, I think the status he's played like 13 or 14 games in five years. Yeah, no one, no one's arguing that Deshaunson wants to put a ski mask. gone whether he controlled it or didn't control it. Obviously you can't control an Achilles popping, but ski mask came on and he did his thing.
Starting point is 00:15:27 And they said, fucking put it in there. They said, put it in there. You put it in there. You press that button. There's going to be casualties. But I digress. Let's get to some good news. A couple weeks ago, a man in Tampa Bay was vying for, I want to be treated. I want to be sent out of here. People were saying, you can't get this guy. He has a cornerstone of the team. And we're proud to announce that Vita VeVeigh has officially signed his extension. We'll give him
Starting point is 00:15:49 a round of applause right now. Bita Bay, friend of the show. Friend of the show, B, one of the nicest guys in the world. This is a guy that obviously first and second down plugs up the A, A, B, and possibly the C gap at all times. He's a massive runstopper. There is nothing more devious, more maniacal. When a defense corner takes that big of a unit and puts him at a nine technique on a tackle, I saw a clip and it had to unfortunately, Jack B, the Titans. I don't know who the tackle was.
Starting point is 00:16:14 But this guy, vertical sets V to V from a nine technique and just, what do you, what do you, you, you, You play dumb games. You're going to win dumb prizes. That guy can be successful on any part of the defensive line. So that's a big win. We'll give one more for that. Shout out. Can we just get back into bad news?
Starting point is 00:16:32 I know you wanted to give him positive. Yeah, but it's okay. That's the thing. It's a yin-yang. It's a bounce. Go ahead. What's going on? What?
Starting point is 00:16:38 With the college football? With the NFL guys now getting to play college football. Before we jump into that, we have one more NFL thing, and that's just a quick moment of silence. I thought you were going to go to this is Chub. This is sad news This is sad news It's like not sad news
Starting point is 00:16:52 Like don't cry because it's over Smile because it's happened That's the quote I was thinking You look at this individual And the injuries that he sustained Not only on Georgia But also in the NFL His ability to come back
Starting point is 00:17:04 The viral workout videos That we were able to see of him Swatting 600 plus Literally putting an entire Double Wide Home on his back And doing it for multiple reps Like this guy is an absolute freak So to Chub
Starting point is 00:17:16 We appreciate everything you've done for the game of football. You're a big reason why we love watching the game of football. So thank you to all that. Now, should we go ahead in silence? Yeah. Nicholas Chub.
Starting point is 00:17:27 Gentlemen, hats off, please. We love you, Nick Job. We love you, Nick. Hey, hard fucker to tackle. Yeah? Hard fucker to tackle. Being on the Titans, I was out there for a few plays. And there's one he broke on me where it legitimately,
Starting point is 00:17:46 like I didn't stop his feet, I didn't stop his legs, nothing. and I kind of slid down the tackle and it was like fucking them fat trees bro yeah his legs felt like massive trees and his legs were hard as shit like he's not hard to tackle but his legs were hard and shit bro
Starting point is 00:18:02 and like I'm sliding down like a fucking concrete pole in a stadium it's like the Eagles just greased the poles and then you were sliding off one of them poles bro hard to tackle what a stud man crazy to think
Starting point is 00:18:15 Sony Michelle Nick Chubb and Todd Gurley no longer play the game of football It gets crazy. The game's moving, man. What's that song, If You Have to. That's sad when I goes by. By the cranberries. Is that what it is?
Starting point is 00:18:28 I don't know. It is just a collage of them going by and all the success they had. Could Nick Chubb go back and play college football? I think he should be able to. With the way that was this 2022 like Supreme Court ruling. Now here's my question. Granted these guys. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:18:43 Mitch, Cody, whoever knows about this rule. Is this rule only for these guys in this year? year who happened to be cut rookies to go back and play college? Or is this something we're going to continue to see? From what I understand is that the rule was placed that this first class, so the rookie class that De Kwan Wright is in, that the rule didn't apply to them, but then they sued and filed an injunction where they say, no, it should apply to us. And judges are basically arguing in their favor that they should be able to come back. So I, I don't know what it means for future.
Starting point is 00:19:21 The future is you get five to play five. But it didn't apply to them because the rule was just made. But then they're saying, no, we should be allowed. We should not be excluded from this rule because we graduated last year. Same thing that went with the junior college thing, like where they're setting a line, but then they're saying, hey, no, we should be involved. And then judges are, yeah, ruling in their favor. From what I understand, I mean, every tweet you look at,
Starting point is 00:19:49 you see injunction and a judge, like this era of college football needs to end. Like too many judges involved in college football. Too many lawyers. Oh my gosh. Something doesn't go their way. They just go and find these judges and these lawyers, bro. And they find loopholes, whatever it is,
Starting point is 00:20:04 because there's zero, there's like zero leadership. You don't even know where their leadership is in the NCAA. Yeah. It's just all over the place. And the only unfortunate thing is it's going to take more judges and lawyers to actually get some boundaries put on this game. There's going to be a lot more lawyers involved before they're, out of that.
Starting point is 00:20:19 But right now, I do say that. We do need more lawyers and judges to fucking help fix this. Like we have a lot of lawyers and judges fighting for these guys to be able to play. We're the lawyers and judges putting some balance, some stability back in the game of college football and allowing this to truly be,
Starting point is 00:20:32 you know, pure again. Because listen, I'm going to watch college football no matter what. It's one of my favorite things to every single year. Look at the transfer portal, see who we're getting, all the things.
Starting point is 00:20:42 It juices me up. But when I'm seeing guys who are catching NFL preseason game passes, scoring NFL preseason game passes, scoring NFL preseason game touchdowns and going ah I think we'll go back to college that's what I'm like well there's this big like these lines are now getting blurred so much that I don't know what's what and I love I love having the NFL as like the ultimate pinnacle where we want to be like every kid's goal who plays football is to make it to the NFL and then the step to do that is to get to college first but after college after you graduate
Starting point is 00:21:11 Dan Lanning said it best once you've graduated you've got to be you've got to go or not graduate you you've you know done all your eligibility yeah once you've entered the world of combines and pro days it's over man because like Dan said this in his press comments when you have like the way cultural what works now is you can only have so many guys on your roster so some of these individuals with what's this guy's name toquan the dequan right dequan right who is being waived and now has a contract set in place if he clears waivers which will know later this afternoon he has a contract to go to lsu lsu based on the amount of guys they have on their roster they will have to cut somebody
Starting point is 00:21:47 bring somebody in a link if it's office and go hey there's a lot of other college football teams out there but LSU is not the team for you because we have to keep a certain amount and Dequan Wright is now going to come in so your team guy who was a part of spring a part of winter conditioning a part of summer camp and this guy which is probably a better football player than the guy they're going to cut
Starting point is 00:22:04 that's how this game works right you're not going to get an elite guy and be like see you later but like dreams aspirations this guy lived it out in college football played his game at Ole Miss now he's in the NFL it's like now you have to go try to make it in the NFL And that is your, that should be your next step. Now if it comes in and balls out,
Starting point is 00:22:21 it might be like, oh, look at LSU. No doubt about it. Because that's the game. But we need, we need some stability and structure. And the only way it's going to come when I think Josh Pate says this is like, it's Congress, it's legislation, has to take place in order for college for both to change. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:37 It just, it sucks. Imagine like your first year in college being like, oh, this is too hard. I can't make it. And you get to, you're like suing to go back and play high school for another year. It's just, it's bad. If you're LSU or these teams that are going to get some of these guys that get cut in the preseason, obviously you're trying to expose a loophole in there. As much as I hate it, I understand it's like if you're in this competitive environment,
Starting point is 00:23:03 you can go and get a good player that you coached that Ole Miss and now you can bring him on to LSU. I get him going after the gate, called up Monk in two weeks ago. Like, hey, what are you thinking here? Is he a bubble guy? Hey, you might as well cut him for me so I can get him back at LSU. We'll pay him well. We're paying better than what he's going to get on his rookie. And what you just said is the absolute truth of the game.
Starting point is 00:23:20 It's Kevin, another Kevin's natural foods clean take right there is these players, like in the competitive nature we have in college football, you need to take every single rule and expose the rule if it has any flaws. Right. If the player, you want to do the same thing. Yeah, if you're a player, but as a coach as well, like if the rules are in place, then you play the game the way the rules are established. And this is the way the rules are established right now.
Starting point is 00:23:41 So if you're a college team out there that needs to go get an elite player from the NFL, we'll go get them then because you can do that right now eventually it's going to change take advantage of the rules where we're there because that's that's how this goes disgusting it's going to like here if this guy like is making a play in the first he's going to lSU is that like he's making that's that's he has a contract in place per his agent uh i believe that's rosendahl right Rosenhaus house Rose and the way I say I see Shefty tweet he's like history and then writes up the tweet and then per agent's Drew Rosenhaus and somebody else like okay chefty's works very closely with Rosenhaus.
Starting point is 00:24:15 Because now he's like, hey, Shephti, you got to say history is being made here. But it's like, just think like he makes a play. Oh, yeah, like Dayquan, right? He actually was at camp with the Seattle Seahawks, but now he's back playing like that's just, the fact that they're saying he was on an NFL team, but now it's coming back to play college.
Starting point is 00:24:30 Like, it just, it's broken. It's disgusting. It is broken. It's all the words. However, it's within the framework of the rules at this point. What are, what are even are the rules anymore?
Starting point is 00:24:41 We don't know. We don't know. Something happened. Right. Okay, yeah. But what is this? This is the same. This should be the deal like Sorosby. Sorosby gets called gambling. Hey, we're suspending them, blah, blah. It's like, yeah, that sucks. But then you find the judge, you find the right people, lawyers, agents, whatever it is. They're going to do the work. Find the loophole. Right. And he's back for a minute. Then he's gone again. Yeah. But even even with DeKuan right, it's like, yeah, man, I don't fucking know. I don't know. We need, we need leaders.
Starting point is 00:25:09 We need them now more than ever. Yeah. We don't know who they are. We need Josh Pate to become the commissioner of college football. That's what we truly mean. That's the only thing that's really gonna fix this thing at the end of the day. I'll say this though, even before DeQuan Wright,
Starting point is 00:25:19 it sounds like he's gonna go to LSU. I'm high on LSU this year. I'm high on LSU this year. Yeah? Yeah. I talk myself into too many things. I'm in the spot where I've talked to myself into everything.
Starting point is 00:25:29 I can talk about people's got floors that are like, okay, I could see them maybe only winning six games this year. Then I'm like, oh shit, like if they get hot, right, they go 12 and out. They go 10 and 2.
Starting point is 00:25:39 And that is, so here's the fun part about this new NILA era is like every year before NIL it was this recruiting class was so good they had the top five recruiting class we'll see how they are in a couple of years but every year you kind of knew who you were going to get who was coming back and what voids you had to fill based on guys going to the NFL or their their eligibility to be ran up now it's like every year you're like dude you see that LSU put $40 million into their roster we got this guy we got this line back or that defensive line
Starting point is 00:26:04 in and then Georgia what the hell is Georgia doing over here it's just Kirby smart and Gunner Stockton the great office line and a running back but where they're wide receivers yeah and it's Just like every, there's so much change that as you look at it from a person who, you know, we're going to be on a show talking about college football. It's like, how fun is it to kind of figure out and figure out the puzzle of 2026 college football season? You just got to root for some chaos, man. Like I'm looking into the SEC. You can almost guarantee that.
Starting point is 00:26:29 Been looking into the SEC more. I was looking at the SEC more over the weekend. And I'm sitting there. I'm even looking at, oh, Tennessee and South Carolina. Man, what if? What if, man? the the the the the the oce from tc u.s you already know from tCU bryles yep r p or p o'clock and you see sellers man and you see sellers class schedule he got one
Starting point is 00:26:52 golf yeah golf man that's what you do when you're uh an NFL quarterback yeah play golf and you play football and that's what lornaissance is doing in college that is the new age that's what you want to see from qb1 but yeah it is what if it really is like they're there one where it's like be a team, you could see as low as, I don't, like, I'm not putting this bad juju, but low as low as five. They can win as many as nine, ten. 1112? 1112. We're at that time of the year. Tennessee with, is it Faison?
Starting point is 00:27:23 Faison brandon, named the starter today, which is huge because G. Mack was going to be a really boring brand of football. But true freshman, kid is a specimen. With Hyple, one of the better offensive QB minds in the game. Yeah, and with David Gabriel George, the high school player. that's getting crazy screen time. I mean, they're broadcasting so many of these high school games on primetime networks now. Because you got, you know, DGG, you got Luke Bryan's son,
Starting point is 00:27:49 Bo Brian, who's playing. Who is? I seen Luke Brian. Is this the running club of Lou Bries? Who plays for Baylor. Yeah. All seeing those. Marshall Manning and DGG on the same team.
Starting point is 00:28:01 So if we, I'm excited for the season. I said it a couple weeks ago, not a lot of expectation, but now that we have phase on Brandon, he's going to be an electric guy and then you go fast forward next season Phazon Brandon DGG comes in Hey don't go to next season
Starting point is 00:28:16 I know but even with Tristan Keys too I mean that could be a three-headed monster But slow down slow down like returning offensive line You got this this running back That's a stud and another thing that went under my nose is Jim Noles yeah we hope the defense is going to be electric this year That's a big one Yeah he's he's our D coordinator
Starting point is 00:28:34 Was it Ohio State? Ohio State Penn State Penn State Penn State Yeah. Took the money at Penn State. Because coming off of a number one defense, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:44 Goes to Penn State. God. It's going to be a great year. It's going to be a phenomenal year. Phenomenal. Should we get some Roe spicy tier talk, fellas? Yeah, let's just switch the mood. Let's just go.
Starting point is 00:28:54 Let's just go to the mood. Roe spicy tier. A favorite anniversary presence. And then clump in the pre, pre, pre, pre, pre, fast, super fast, fast pre-production meeting by Sherman Young. Clump said, you got the best one. He said, he says that? But my, what he's saying, it's, I'm not coming up with nothing.
Starting point is 00:29:11 I'm not reinventing the wheel. So I'm just going tried and true. There's a framework out there to help you shop for your anniversary every year. Marriage, anniversary, gifts. I'll just type this in for you. Google. Hang on, buy year, buy year, by year, by year, by year. Wedding anniversary gifts by year.
Starting point is 00:29:30 There's stuff you can look at where it's like in the early years. Like this could be tier one just means year one. Paper, something themed. named around paper so what I did is oh I hate that I am forgetting his name but the artist that we used for a wedding song diamonds or twine Ryan heard Ryan heard so friend of the show friend of the show so knowing that paper was the theme in year one I hit up Ryan and Ryan wrote the song lyrics for diamonds or twine I got a framed and that's the paper gift for year one beautiful year two you see here
Starting point is 00:30:08 year two is cotton but I don't remember what I got in year two all I'm trying to say is I'm not out there reinvent the wheel I'm like looking I just I type in the Google machine like wedding gifts
Starting point is 00:30:23 wedding anniversary gifts by year and they kind of have the whole playbook for you I'd have to think about it I'm on the spot right now I'm under the gun I'm Debo Sweeney entering this year right now
Starting point is 00:30:35 and my brain's not working will come up as in the agap right now favorite anniversary presence So you got, just go year by year. And so when you get them caught in one year, this is what they said. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:45 So year five, which is what it was this year, year five was wood. I got her like a wooden picnic basket because she loves to go on picnics with just like our names on it like a little wedding anniversary thing. But I use like a wooden picnic basket that I got like custom made. Got that shift there. Boom.
Starting point is 00:31:02 Anniversary gift, taken care of. Done. Locked in. Yeah. Because it's tradition. Yeah. You know what I like, dude?
Starting point is 00:31:08 I like kind of going outside the boundary a little bit, pushing the envelope a little bit when it comes to gifts. And if I had to think about my favorite anniversary present, I could give to somebody, it's pretty simple. You had to bewtb.com. All right. You look at all the apparel you got on there.
Starting point is 00:31:25 If you're a new dad or a new mom, you're a fan of dad pot, you got that. I would just go in there, and I'm sure they run deals all the time at BWTB.com, and I would just get them some of the merch. If you love football merch. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:31:37 because I would just, that's what I would do. I'd be like, hey, this is, I got you this. And they'd be like, oh, I'd never really heard of this show before. I'd like, well, it's a thought, right, that counts. Yeah, like if you get them this hat that you can buy on bwtb.com, it's like, flip the lid over and it just says happy anniversary, written in silver. Beautiful.
Starting point is 00:31:52 Silver, that's probably a year. Yeah. Silver's probably a year. Yeah. Of the present thing. Yeah. Like cotton. If it's cotton, cotton tea.
Starting point is 00:32:00 So year two, if you're going to year two of marriage, why not get the shirt you're wearing right there at BWTB.com? You could tell your husband, I know you're a PT sick. the theme in year two is cotton. Yeah. I got you the shirt from bwtb.com. Fantastic. I might be Goddair.
Starting point is 00:32:14 I don't know. Might be chemistiatric food's clean take. I don't know. Fellows, any anniversary gifts? A nice trip. Yeah, I feel like the last year we went to Anamria Island, which is an awesome beach down in Florida.
Starting point is 00:32:26 This year we went to Hawaii. And we're not going to do like a trip every year. But it is a, it's an epic gift because you don't really have to, you don't get a gift for each other. You're just there experiencing. new place. Yeah. Now are you rolling this out?
Starting point is 00:32:40 The environment. Are you rolling this out as a gift to your wife? No, no. Like, hey, our gift this year, I'm taking you to Hawaii. No, no. Daddy's got you. I'm financing it. It's a team.
Starting point is 00:32:52 Payments. Team gift. Financed by the husband. Like sitting there talking about it. Who has a joint bank account with you. Like the gift, like the gift is experiencing it together. Right. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:33:04 You guys kind of sit down and talk shop. It's a photo. It's a photo. You look back on 30, 30, 40 years from now. Remember when we were young? Right. I went to Kauai. Because we're making,
Starting point is 00:33:10 we're going to start making photo albums for each trip. And so, like, I keep seeing this thing on Twitter, Instagram. It's like, I refuse to let my, to have my kids go through 10,000 screenshots of, like,
Starting point is 00:33:22 my trips. And then it's basically an ad selling how to, like, create photo albums. Yeah. Shutterfly, dude. Shutterfly does a good job.
Starting point is 00:33:29 He sent the photos. You can set it up all, all like that. Yeah. It's kind of nice. Taylor does one for every year. And them bitches are thick. Those books are crazy.
Starting point is 00:33:37 started one last year yeah dude i'll have to show y'all because for sit in birthday it's in january or like our anniversary like i've made these poster boards of just like the top one or two photos from every month so two best photos from january most fun photos from whatever and if it doesn't look like a sixth grade science project when you like are doing your poster board you're presenting just a try for you all seen my handwriting yeah my handwriting's horrible and it's just you picture my handwriting in just 2025 massive size 72
Starting point is 00:34:11 font on the on the poster board it's like it looks like our kid that we don't have like made the poster board well like the last two years for brook and I I just made like a video uh from like all of the videos and stuff we have from the past year kind of like how you did your new year
Starting point is 00:34:27 video yeah just kind of like that but like and then like hey here's your here's the gift yeah maybe just make one of those like hype edits yeah yeah yeah yeah exactly exactly Friday night lights me music. Yeah. Now are you handing her like a like a hard drive to it? I just kind of like or you just air drop or hey turn on your air drop I got to get I got a gift for you. I just kind of I'm truly just like text it to her like and then like make sure we watch it together but she she loves them so text of the video you put happy anniversary let's watch us together yes that's
Starting point is 00:34:56 beautiful like I'll text it's where when we're together like we're literally sitting next to each other like here I want you to have this you ready for my gift open up your phone exactly just been it was on the shame it works you were to screen share with the TV, but just give me a minute. Give me a minute. Yeah, I think I actually this year, I think I did airplay it to the TV. There you go, dude. You sit there and just smile.
Starting point is 00:35:14 Remember that? Yeah, yeah. Beautiful time. Anybody out there watching or listen, if you got some tips for the boys, dropping in the comments. Absolutely. Absolutely. We feeling good, fellas.

Starting point is 00:36:15 Texas Tech, do we know the week? Do we know the week? I think it's either Utah or I think it's ASU. Arizona State? Arizona State Week. Arizona State at Texas Tech. Friday night. Friday night game.
Starting point is 00:36:26 Friday night lights. And then other massive news. Uh-oh. We're officially partnered with Ford of Jack Dane. Let's fucking go. American-Made. We're officially. Built Ford Tough, dude.

That's way too cool. You got to go get that car back, Will. Hey, yeah. Go snipe that truck from the old man. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:55 Sorry, Dad. So don't even tell them, dude. Just drive there, grab it and go. And just get them like a, like a, oh three Ford Ranger. Yeah, I love that. Those cars are sick. Two hundred and he doesn't. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:05 Fort Rangers do rip. That's the one I wanted to rock in high school. I love that. One last thing. Futures of locker room starts this week. Starts this week Wednesday. Shit. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:16 Football season's back, dude. Except for Tuesdays. We still at Dinger Tuesdays. If you guys are wondering on. Ding or Tuesdays. They're still going. But football week zero is this weekend. Locker room's coming with Josh Bates.

Starting point is 00:37:49 The vibes will continue with Peter. That was a great transition. Peter's around. He's ripping and rocking the entire time. Took him a minute to get settled. Yeah. He was a little all over the place for a little bit. But my God,
Starting point is 00:37:58 he huffed and puffed into the mic a little bit. Yeah. He's a good boy. Nothing better than a. Yeah. He's the best boy. Yeah. That noise a dog makes and they just kind of sniffing on you like that.

Starting point is 00:39:23 Now he has the most insane fall. Anybody's ever seen his dog, Petey is also here. He's already a bus and favorite. He's a good boy. He's a little stress right now. But he's going to be here. He's going to be here. He's going to be screaming at the clouds right now.
Starting point is 00:39:34 Hey, the Herb Street dog haters are going to be, they're going to be screaming at the clouds right now. I don't know. But hey, see, I don't read any comments. Do you mind if I just give you a round of applause real quick for coming on the show? Let's start. Let's start with that. How do you hate? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:39:49 I didn't know people. I thought it was the only thing that was universally loved. I didn't know. There are people that get upset about it. Yeah, there are people that. Why do they get upset about it? I guess because you just show your dog all the time. I just, I take him everywhere I go.
Starting point is 00:40:01 It's like, you know, the haters that are sitting there and being like, look at Kirk Herb Street. Look how much he's accomplished in his life. How amazing. And this SOB has one of the most beautiful dog. we've ever seen the world. People probably be like, he's doing it for clicks, he's doing it for that. There's gotta be some sort of hate. People just want to hate on success. I just set the record straight. It's, it's, he's just a friend.
Starting point is 00:40:21 Like you just, I just bring him around. It's like I came here. By the way, most people ask me to bring him everywhere I go. So it's, it's not like you guys, hey, can you bring Pete along? I was like, sure, I'll bring him along. I bring him the matter of what. I mean, the only time I don't bring him is if someone says, don't bring him. Don't bring him. and which has never really happened. So if you see me, you're gonna see him because he's with me every single place. I go, and by the way, like, how do you not bring this?
Starting point is 00:40:47 I mean, look at him. That's a, yeah, he's a good boy. The physique is incredible. And he's just so chill. Is it right to me? This is a top 10, top 10 linebacker. Oh my God. Where would you guys play him?
Starting point is 00:40:57 Would you play him with the mic? Or where would you play him outside? I'll tell you what. Number one, he'd be in the spinner package. Yeah. You get him moving around along the line of scrimmage, maybe the second level, maybe the first level. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:08 You know, you know this dog reminds me. we have Melvin Ingram, played for the charges for a long time. You can do stand up, you're going to line as well. Anytime you're in the third and six, he'd be in that radar look, or it's like, hey, we know we're gonna call on him a big, so he's gonna count as our fourth down.
Starting point is 00:41:21 That's a great call. And then we just gotta figure it out. What's crazy is in college, he was just more of a defense alignment. And then when he went to the NFL, I was like, I didn't know Melvin Ingram could do all that. I mean, he's blocking punts.
Starting point is 00:41:30 You could even put him in there on offense for a player too. We were at the probe, I was at the pro bowl with him, I think, a couple of times, and he would be kicking like 45-yard field goals. Oh, he's that guy. He's the guy that grabbed the ball from the 30-yard line,
Starting point is 00:41:41 hit the crossbar. Just a free. Just a guy that picks up a bat, hits at 500 yard. He's one of those guys. Yeah, it was just awesome. And he'd be like, yeah, totally chill right after. He's like, yeah, it's kind of how it is.
Starting point is 00:41:50 It was unbelievable. Well, I don't know how, if you hate it a dog, then I think that says a lot about you. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, there's no agenda by me. I just bring him where I go. Like, oh, look, there's Kirk Murphy, showing off his dog again.
Starting point is 00:42:02 Yeah. Like, why am I, how am I showing him off? If I could throw a dart at the board. I could throw a dart at the board. And I feel like I know where your dart is. Go ahead. It was, I want to say, where the line started to get drawn, if I'm reading the internet, it would be when the one passed away and you had a really tough time.
Starting point is 00:42:21 Yeah, that was brutal. Yeah, really tough time. And everybody fell, everybody this. And then it's like the next week, people didn't know you had a roster of them. Yeah, I got four. So that would be where if I threw a dart at the board where maybe some divides started having. It's like, oh, he was so. We felt for him, but he's got another one.
Starting point is 00:42:37 He's got a next man up mentality. Oh, wow. Kirk, well, he's been in football for so long. He's been at practices where it's like, guy gets injured, move it up five. You gotta put the next guy in. When Ben died, it was in the middle of the season. I was in Baltimore doing the Bengals,
Starting point is 00:42:51 Bengals Ravens game. It was the game, I think Joe got hurt. Remember that game where he heard his wrist? Yeah. Oh, that was early. Yeah, early in the season. Yeah, and it was very unpredictable. He had cancer.
Starting point is 00:43:05 but he was really holding up great through chemotherapy. And then he just turned. We tried to take him to a, what's he getting? We actually took him to a holistic doctor near Philadelphia to try to like last gas, try to save his life. And meanwhile, that was going on like on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday. It was actually the night that the president, I was in some small little hotel and it was,
Starting point is 00:43:34 I can't remember it was Trump and Come on, and Kamala Harris, like who's gonna be the president? I'm in some place, small town outside of Philadelphia trying to save Ben's life. Trump ends up beating Kamala Harris for the president. And then the next day, I had to fly to Baltimore and my son was with me throughout all that. And he flew to Ohio State veterinary school.
Starting point is 00:43:57 And they tried, they're like, we gotta put him down. And so I had a face time with my son and with the vet. So your son's, So your son's at the vet, he facetime you to watch them, put him down. Not to watch, but to say goodbye basically. God, because you understand, my dogs are like family. Like we, I treat them, my people, you know, like I, they're not dogs to me. They're, they're, and so it was very, uh, tough.
Starting point is 00:44:25 That was a very tough thing, but the next game we're doing LSU Alabama. So I did Ravens, Ravens, Bengals Thursday. I fly home on Fridays when my son was at Cincinnati St. Xavier, go to his game and then I'm like, I think I'm going to bring one of them with me because I don't want to be out there by myself. So I was like, because by then I'd gotten kind of used to it and I was like, I think I'm going to bring the young one, Peter,
Starting point is 00:44:48 and brought him, I had no idea. He's 12 months old. I had no idea where it got into Death Valley, one of the wildest scenes you can imagine. That was his way of getting broken in was Alabama at LSU. Great debut. Great debut. Place is going.
Starting point is 00:45:03 Exactly. Place is going absolutely bonkers pregame. You know the system, everything's going wild. He's just sitting there chilling, watching it all. So I was like, he handled it well. So it just started bringing him literally from that point on. And now people, most people fell in love with him. And so now they want to see him way more than me.
Starting point is 00:45:23 Like everywhere I go, it's like, no doubt. Where's Peter? Like no one wants to see me. You want to give some, look at him. Shoot out, let him. Let him have it, man. Let him have it. Now, what are you got, Pete?
Starting point is 00:45:32 Do you give him any, do you guys do any preparation? Like you're like, hey, I know you're young. I know this is going to be your first start. But Death Valley is a different environment. You know what I'm going to be chaotic? You know what he's flying, but keep poised? His walkthrough was my son's playoff game. St. X played Winton Woods in Cincinnati.
Starting point is 00:45:49 And I took him into that environment. High school football in Ohio is pretty big. Yeah. It was probably 10,000 people there and sat him up in the stands. And I didn't, I was like, let's see how he acts. Completely just sat there and just didn't do anything. He's much more worked up now than he normally is. You're thinking at that.
Starting point is 00:46:08 I think he's a lot of stimulating a little. I think he's a lot more on. Yeah. But usually he's just kind of chill. So you took him there. That was his walk-through. Yeah, it was his walk-through. And you're like, if he would have chit the bed there,
Starting point is 00:46:18 I would have probably been like, I would have told me howlady. Oh, you got to. A lot of other teams out there, they're gonna watch here. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Exactly. But he's sitting there observing me like, I got a big game dog right here.
Starting point is 00:46:27 How hard was that for you, that first college game day? Because it's obviously a very memorable moment. Yeah. They show a whole thing. about Ben, it comes back to you and you're supposed to say a couple words. Do you have like a teleprompter? No.
Starting point is 00:46:39 Or is it just from the heart? From the heart. Because you, I mean, watching you break down, I'm watching it. I think I even text you, I was like, dude, oh my God. The hardest thing I had to do was the voiceover for the piece that they did if you go back and watch that.
Starting point is 00:46:54 I, that was, because if you read the wording, I didn't write the piece. Ryan McGee did. Ryan McGee and Game Day asked him. if he could write a piece, just his perspective on what Ben, what kind of Ben meant to the college football community. So he, and I'm sitting there reading it, and it was just, I just Face-timed him the night before
Starting point is 00:47:17 and I'm sitting there reading this. It took 30 takes, like I just couldn't do it. Every line was just, so then I had to tag it. Yeah, I don't even remember that actually. I remember doing the voiceover for the feature, but I don't remember tagging it. I don't, I don't, but whatever I did, It just was just no teleprompter.
Starting point is 00:47:36 I've never, we never, thank God, your show, you're not gonna do teleprompter, right? No, no, no, no, no. Yeah, we've never done teleprompter and thank God, I wouldn't know what to do with a teleprompter, I'd be terrified. Yeah, reading in general for me is just a monster. It's a monster.
Starting point is 00:47:50 Yeah, especially you mess up one word. Oh yeah, yeah, the stadium post gets way too loud and you're like, everyone thinks you're an idiot. Yeah, more than you already are. Once in all promos, you can read and get through it, but like actually reading, like the sports center people, like they, reading everything that they do.
Starting point is 00:48:05 We were greening, greening on get up. Does he read? He'll come out of commercial break and he'll have somebody in his ear being, hey, 20 seconds, 10 seconds and he's reading it. Yeah, as he's hearing that. You can tell he's changing pace because he knows a little faster or a little slow
Starting point is 00:48:20 and then he gets right into it and you're looking up at the cameras that have the screen show you look up to you. And it pans as soon as he's done talking, it's like, he has his glasses off perfectly in the amount of time. It's like, dude, that is a true professional. He's a pro.
Starting point is 00:48:33 And again, he is a, a studio pro because matter what the sport he grew up in sports center he can do all that the guys that blow me away and i'm i'm sure greeny could do this too like mike tarrico the three guys that i've just like they're aliens mike tarrico chris phallor and rice davis because they don't use any teleprompter and all they're looking at is like the way we're looking at these cameras they're just just cameras and that's it and they're the point guard at all these shows like when you watch mike you just have to bow down to what he and Fowler and Reese do because I'm in all. It's one thing for us as analysts to hop in
Starting point is 00:49:10 and have a take on a game or a, but to be the guy that like one second's laughing and the next second turn to a single and lead to a heartbreaking story about a family member of a player and transition in and out of the right way, say the right words. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:26 It's like I said, I'm always... Do you ever pick their brain and like try and figure out what their preparation is for that? I think they all do it differently. I think they, at some degree, they have to have kind of a photographic memory, I think. You know, like they... Man, I wish I had a photograph memory.
Starting point is 00:49:43 Because you have to understand the... Like, Mike Greenberg a lot of times, he's in a studio. You guys are in a studio. It's quiet other than the folks that are around and working the cameras. And I mean, we're in front of 10,000 people that are screaming, yelling.
Starting point is 00:49:57 I mean, it's chaos. And just to be as smooth as those guys have always been. I just have such... appreciation. It's like you guys playing football watching somebody who's kind of an alien. You're just like, I don't know how they do that. Yeah. Like that's kind of how it is. The feed that comes back in those lives like doing college game, due, I was in Columbus with you guys. And I remember walking up being like, I mean, this is awesome. I remember waking up when I was playing at Michigan in the morning. We'd be playing at Middor Day and like the first night game. I would wake up and I would wake up and I would wake up and I would just be a fan. Yeah. Do a couple of segments of the guys. Oh, you did great. The way they went to dinner at Jeff Ruby's the night before. I was great. I really feel like I was a part of the squad.
Starting point is 00:50:37 But just hearing you guys kind of bounce back and forth. And I'm hearing the crowd, but I'm also hearing the loudspeaker of you guys talking. And then it's like a little bit off by what your mouth is moving. Right, right. So it took me like probably a couple minutes to be like, okay. Like there's a lot of different variables taking place for me to kind of zone in. So to watch you guys fluidly go through it is it's extremely impressive. Well, I appreciate you saying that.
Starting point is 00:50:58 And sometimes you'll go out to do the feel goal thing. And the audio is sometimes it goes out. Sometimes it's like, oh, and you're just like, yeah, acting like, you've got to act like everything's normal and you're having a great Pat saying something. And you can barely hear it because the way the audio is. But yeah, there's different things, different weeks that go down on that show. How has the addition, I mean, Pat's been there for a handful of years now, but like the energy that McAfee, I mean, he's ascended into this like God-like tier of sports analysts.
Starting point is 00:51:27 But having him come on college game day, like what is that done for the show? Well, first you have to go back. Like when I started on it, again, I keep going back to football. But game day is a team. So it's very much like, you know, my background of playing a team sport. Like when I started, it was Chris Fowler, Lee Corsoe and myself. And we kind of created a trio for long time. And then Desmond came in.
Starting point is 00:51:51 And then Chris Fowler left and Reese came in. And then Pat came in during COVID and a little bit after COVID and gave us a taste of what he could offer. And I started to kind of become a different, I started in 1996 on the show and I was just like 26 years old. You imagine. Bro, three decades is nuts. But think about being 20, because I have a 26 year old twins
Starting point is 00:52:15 and I'm thinking, holy shit, I was on Game Day at my twins age. And I'm just like blown away that I was sitting on a college game day desk next to Lee Corso at that stage. And I was just, I was like, I'm going to say nothing. I'm just going to take notes.
Starting point is 00:52:30 I'm going to be like, sir, yes, sir. Like, I am quiet. And I was like that for four or five years. And then as time went on, I got a little more, okay, I've earned the right to have an opinion. I've earned the right to like, but I was very, like, put my big toe in out of just, just out of respect for the show and for Chris and Lee. And then as time went on, I became more and more comfortable. And then when Chris left, it was almost like in the Lee Corso had a stroke, it was like my role just, almost innately changed and I needed to voice things a little bit more and my role changed a lot
Starting point is 00:53:09 and I became a little bit more a leader on the show and so I remember when Pat was like I might do it I might not and he would come on for a little bit man I remember going to Indianapolis and sitting down with him and an ESPN executive with Pat and just like basically like Lee Corso who's the man we don't know how much longer he has and boy you would be so good on the show. Like I'm basically begging him to come on the show. Because you guys know, whether it's Barclay or Lee Corso or now Pat, you have to have a guy. You have to have a guy that like is incredibly entertaining and natural, authentically funny.
Starting point is 00:53:51 And those are very hard people to find. You can find people to talk football, but it's hard to find people who can just give you some juice. You know what I mean? And I just recognized, before Pat became Pat, I just recognized his talent. I used to go on his podcast when it was on YouTube. And I just really appreciated his timing and his humor. I just thought, man, that guy on Game Day.
Starting point is 00:54:15 So I basically begged him to come on the show. And he just finally kept coming around more and more. Then he came on the show. And then Sabin came on the show. And then you got Sabin and Pat together with us, me and Reese and Des. And it's like, man, think about what we were for 20 years, like Fowler and me and Corso. And now we've almost reinvented the brand with some big personalities.
Starting point is 00:54:42 And man, it's crazy. I'm approaching my 31st year. And you think you've got to get like been there, done that. It's old. Fuck, it's as exciting. Like I've never been more excited for, you know, and I'm not just saying that. Like I'm like reading things, talking to you guys about Nebraska, this quarterback coming in from, you know, is it Virginia? and then UNLV, Michigan with Bryce.
Starting point is 00:55:02 Like those are just two stories. I mean, think about all the stories that are out there. The chaos sits around the sport. It makes no sense. But fuck Saturdays, marching bands come out. The pageantry is there. I freaking, I just shoot it in my veins. Like, I absolutely love it.
Starting point is 00:55:20 And it never gets old. Thank God. If it ever does get old, I'll probably be out. But right now, it just never gets old. But I'm really proud of what our show is done. Like I said, in reinventing the purpose. personalities and the way Coach Saban and Pat, those are very, very different personalities
Starting point is 00:55:35 from Lee Corso, Chris Fowler and me, but to kind of be the guy that's been through it all with them, man, I'm just stoked, fired up about where we are right now currently with the show and kind of where we're heading right now. How fun is it watching the two kind of like, not polar opposites, but somebody like, but McAfee and also Nick Saban. Nick Saban more like old school, he's, you know,
Starting point is 00:55:58 arguably he is the great, greatest head coach of all time in college football coming on the show. And then you have a personality like Pat, seeing them kind of mesh. You see all the videos and stuff where you guys are at in commercial break, whether Pat's dancing.
Starting point is 00:56:09 Sabin's like kind of looking over like, what the fuck's going on? Sabin hates McAfee. Yeah, yeah. You know, again, that's, that is internet driven. Like, they get along great. Nick Sabin is the most deferential superstar coach you'd ever imagine.
Starting point is 00:56:29 I mean, he could walk in there, and we get into a discussion about X's and O's. And he could very easily be like, I'm Nick Saved. Like enough out of you. Sit down. Yeah. Let me kind of coach you up here. Never has done that.
Starting point is 00:56:41 He is just very engaged in conversation. I'm talking like in a Friday meeting. You guys have been, have you been around on like a Friday meeting? Or if you haven't, you should come around and just watch how he is because he's, yeah, he's still Nick Sabin. And people are like, that's Nick Sabin. But we'll get done with a segment. And he and I do it next.
Starting point is 00:57:00 so segment on the board and we'll get done and he'll be like every time was that okay you know like like dead serious wants to be great at it he's not just like i'm nick sabin and i can do whatever i want he really wants to learn how to be an analyst and how can i get better and better and better and so i think having that approach and then pat just pat bobs and weaves and he he gets the entertainment better than anybody but they get i mean that's the great thing about like you guys and your crew You can just sense it the second I walked in the door. You can't fake like guys that get along. You know, like I'm sure you've been on teams when that wasn't the case.
Starting point is 00:57:36 Oh, yeah. And you had to overcome it. And you still maybe, but, and I've worked with some folks, so you're just kind of like, isn't really a fit. But when the light goes on, you make it work. And I've been so lucky on game day. It's just like you guys have here on Bussin. It's just natural, great chemistry.
Starting point is 00:57:54 Guys love each other. And when you have that, To me, that's the magic of, like, when you guys get ready to do your show with Josh, I'm assuming the three of you get along. And hopefully, just as important, whoever your producer and the director and like the people to put the show together, hopefully you get along. Because if you have that, that's when the show is going to catch fire. You know it's going to be good, like that.
Starting point is 00:58:15 Do you have any advice for us? Yeah, what, this is our first? Well, we got, what, 19 days, 18 days to our first show as we're filming this right now. 18 days. And we're not, hey, we don't have. what we're doing yet. We know, we know, we know week one will be at Clemson, LSU so we can get around this.
Starting point is 00:58:33 Give me the premise behind. You got the name? You got the name? We got the name. Bussing and paid on campus. Bust it and paid on campus. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:41 So we have more of, like that. You're traveling each week? We're traveling each week. So the first two weeks will be Clemson LSU, week one with y'all. And then Oklahoma, Michigan after that. Okay. And so our goal isn't to be with college game day
Starting point is 00:58:54 because there's so many, how many times a year? or they're like, man, there's these two games. All the time. And so it's like, whatever one you guys don't do, it's like, okay, we'll go to that one. Kind of give love to wherever we can go. But the whole premise beyond the show is like,
Starting point is 00:59:06 kind of a calm before the storm. Friday, people are starting to get in. They're getting their tailgate set up, kind of having the conversations that we were having before we started the show. Yeah, yeah. Of like, what about this storyline or that? Or how about when this happened back and whenever?
Starting point is 00:59:18 That's kind of the premise of what's taking place. And we're still putting together the segments of... Are you in a, like on a set? Like game day would be or are you in a bar? Like where are you on? No, it'll be on a set on campus. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:59:32 like similar to game day. Similar to game day. Like fans can come and go check it out. But the idea is like we're going to have like 10 things that are like at any point we can just kind of put in the show because it's only an hour. And then figuring out what is the best thing based on the week that we're going to be talking about. The storylines will add these things in there. And so it's way more fluidity throughout the week of figuring out what the years is about.
Starting point is 00:59:51 Because what's cool on Monday and Tuesdays. You guys know you live it every day. It's old news by Friday. Right. Right. And it's kind of like encapsulating that vibe you feel on Friday when you walk out the door. We'll say you get an ice latte. The ice latte tastes a little colder.
Starting point is 01:00:05 You got the music up a little bit louder. You're walking in the office. The hay's kind of in the barn for everybody you've listened to all week long and that anxiety and fear of your team about to play on Saturday is there on Friday, but you got a smile on your face. You want to be around the guys that you're hitting the group chats with. Can we get them tomorrow? We're trying to encapsulate that vibe meeting in the Saturday.
Starting point is 01:00:26 I love that. Because where it's like, you know, college football at large is what the number two sport in all the sports here in America. And you have Saturday on college football. Outside of that, you look at the big dog of the NFL, you have NFL's all week long. You have Monday night football, you have Sunday night prime time, you have Thursday night football. It's kind of all week long and NFL's done such a great job of making it all year long. Where college is trending is how can you capitalize on making the sport as big as what the audience wants, where it's going to
Starting point is 01:00:55 going outside of Saturday. Very underutilized. Yeah, yeah. Diving in on Friday. Starting to do things where the NIL and everything is moving with college football. You definitely see where there's gonna be steps towards figuring out how to make it an all year round thing
Starting point is 01:01:07 because pieces are moving at all times with coaching changes, guys sit in the portal. But I know with this show, it's just encapsulating everything you start to feel on Friday leading into Saturday. Well, I think that's awesome. And I just say, first of all, congratulations on this opportunity.
Starting point is 01:01:24 I think you guys are gonna I think you're gonna crush it. And I think your instincts about the NFL has done such a good job. I went to a uniform unveiling of the Titans a few months ago at the Pinnacle. And I'm like, this is insane. It might have been March or April, whatever it was.
Starting point is 01:01:43 There are so many people, so excited. And the uniform, by the way, sweet. I love the uniform. I'm a big fan of the new dish. But the crowd, the way they just, everything, here's the schedule. It's like, oh my God, here comes. It's like everything for the NFL.
Starting point is 01:01:55 touches is and I'm thinking social team schedule release drops yeah how good's a social team yeah everything and I'm thinking man how can we take college football up there because NFL is clearly there but there's no debate the next sport is college football it's just how far do we drop until we hit college football right then we go down to NBA and MOB but to me there's a significant so shows like what you're describing and giving people more than that And just, I'll be honest with you, man. I think our own place has been very, very guilty of, like, those morning shows. It's NFL or LeBron James or the Yankees or the Dodgers.
Starting point is 01:02:38 You know, they're playing the hits. They're not breaking down what's going on in Nebraska. Unless there's a turmoil, unless there's some kind of controversy, then they're going to want to get into it. If there's a head coach at halftime. Yeah, yeah. But otherwise, like, they're not talking college football. I'm like, wait a second. Why are you always talking NBA and MLB and WMBA?
Starting point is 01:02:53 but where's college football on your rundown? Like, it's the second biggest sport. So the more college football and the more personalities about guys like you guys and Josh who love it and care about it, man, I wish you guys would do it Monday through Friday. And maybe this Friday show will lead to a Monday through Friday
Starting point is 01:03:10 because I think we need more college football on ESPN. 100% and more just personalities. There's personalities out there, but you look at the NFL, like as a fan and a spectator. Obviously, we've started to cut our teeth in the last year or so in getting on ESPN talking NFL. But in the NFL, there's no shortage of talent anywhere, whether it's what crew's gonna be doing Sunday night,
Starting point is 01:03:32 Thursday night, Monday night, throughout the week, the talking heads that are gonna be on every topic around NFL. There's no shortage of talent anywhere. Whereas college, like, you can think of a handful guys, like your guys' crew, you got Paul Feinbaum, you got Josh Pate, you got Rogers Younger Brother. Jordan.
Starting point is 01:03:53 Jordan, who's been doing a great job. But there's, it's not like when you think in the NFL, like it's saturated, it's everywhere, you got enough guys. College, I feel like it has so much growth. There's so much potential. I mean, this photo right here with Dan Lanyan in Oregon, like, why are they not doing live unveilings
Starting point is 01:04:12 of their uniforms for the week? So like Eugene can get there and like, this is what we're doing, similar to what you're talking about the tie-ins. I just feel it's untapped. Tulane, have you seen the new uniforms that Tulane just came out with? No. that up because they are I mean too they did like some they did blue they did blue last
Starting point is 01:04:28 year right yeah but they have like a full like this this uniform right here full marty gras like the whole breakdown the social post was incredible and the helmet's got the beads and it is awesome that is nice and there's so much like uh so much room for creativity because i mean NFL we've talked about they have they've kind of honed in on everything yeah but with college like there's more room for like self-expression the way your uniform can be you know as far as like knee pads don't have to be honest on your knees. It doesn't have to have the jersey tucked in. You can wear different colored cleats. Like there's a lot more to kind of express yourself and we should be highlighting that in a live way and like really pressing on, hey, this is coming.
Starting point is 01:05:04 Once you say like this is coming gets people more amped up. Absolutely. Like I kind of, I believe that the schedule release thing is one of the more ridiculous things that people get excited for. Yeah. All good though because I'm fired up for ball. Yeah. It's still fun. Yeah. And free agency. Right. Yeah. And free agency is well, we're ahead with college football. That might be right around the corner free agency. Yeah. So it just does. Well, really the transfer portal now. I remember when the port opened up January 10th this year.
Starting point is 01:05:27 I am on the phone with boosters from Michigan. I'm looking up every day who we're attacking, who we're going after. Klump and I are making lists of guys because a couple guys reach out. They're like, hey, what do you think about these three receivers? So we looked them up, watched their film, and we're like, this is what we think about these guys.
Starting point is 01:05:42 They're like, great, appreciate you. And so it is so cool. It is so fun. I just wish we could highlight that more to the people because it all comes back to how NFL, the playbook's out there. to be like, hey, if you guys want it to look incredible, if you guys want it year round
Starting point is 01:05:57 where it's not like this big massive six-month break and then we're kind of all just clamoring in August. Right. Like, let's make it a full year thing. Yeah, I think that's great. Not only the playbook, but the access that you get at colleges. Like, when we get to go out to college
Starting point is 01:06:09 and do our vlogs, like they roll out the road to see you guys. And they love to have them sideline. You're like walking around on the field during one-ups. Like, I'm on the 50-yard line. Well, that's a picture of you and Dan Lannning. Right, that's right. You look like you're on the staff. That is easy.
Starting point is 01:06:21 Yeah. Exactly. That's after they won the game against Ohio State. You could see the intensity in his face. Look at that. You look like you played that day. I mean, you're seriously fired. So juiced up.
Starting point is 01:06:34 You're the guy trying to get him to the podium. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. No doubt, it's just, yeah. Well, you guys, I think it's gonna be fun. I can't wait to watch your show. And I think I was talking to you at the,
Starting point is 01:06:48 the, not the rodea of the pro. PBR. Yeah, PBR. That was fun. Did you say it for the whole time? We stayed for the majority of it. Yeah. We left maybe about three quarters through.
Starting point is 01:06:57 What I was blown away by, was the one bowl was 18 and 0. Crazy. And the guy that got on him lasted a second, gone. 19 and 0. Get your ass out of here. What I love about, these bowls were, if you think this dude's big,
Starting point is 01:07:12 these things were massive. Did you guys go out to the shark tank? Oh no, I saw that. I was wondering what that was. I was wondering what that was. Yeah, yeah. out there are fans? They have like, you know, some camera people,
Starting point is 01:07:24 but every now and then they bring, they'll bring a couple fans and you just get to be in the shark tank to where you're like, you're just in it. I saw how close you were, like you had a phenomenal, you guys had phenomenal access. Austin Dillon from, shout out racing with the boys. He gave a little hook up. He owns the Carolina Cowboys, which is one of the teams.
Starting point is 01:07:40 Yeah. And so he was gonna hit me up. I brought my two older girls. And they were, we were warming. Beets got something to say. Yeah. We were warming up with, with like, with the guys, like my daughters,
Starting point is 01:07:50 like warming up with the, guys, we like go and where you were sitting, where you're sitting right over the shoots, you can kind of look down at them getting set up. Yeah. Was at was incredible. How intense is that too? Where they're like, you know, like double,
Starting point is 01:08:01 pulling on them. Yeah, like are you in tight? Are you in tight? They get their grip, re-grip. It's so funny, I walked in the locker room and I see, I go in there and introduce you. I'm thinking, these cowboys want, have no idea who I am, right? There's a couple of them, they're like,
Starting point is 01:08:14 hey, bus, and I'm like, hell yeah, okay, all right, we got a little mojo here, we got a little mojo. But I walk in, I'm like, hey, you guys get nervous for this? And they're like, no, we don't get nervous. Like, you only have to do it for eight seconds. Like, there's no point of being nervous right now. And I'm like, that is incredible.
Starting point is 01:08:26 But those sons of bitches lied to me. Because I went and sat at the shoots right after we got done talking. And you see them, they're all just like, all of a sudden. Like, there's a totally different energy about them. I got the Brazilian guy in the corner talking and gibberish just slapping his helmet. Oh, yeah. Oh, they're feeling out. Dialed right now.
Starting point is 01:08:41 And how about this? I didn't realize that they're ranking the bull and the rider. Right. So you're graded base 50 points. grading for the rider, 50 for the bull. So if you get a terrible bowl and you're a great rider, you're screwed. Right. So you're getting like a 45 for the rider, 45, whatever.
Starting point is 01:09:00 So if the bull was really bucking you and you're holding on for dear life, then you get a massive score thanks to that bowl. I didn't realize that. Just seeing these badassers, like my algorithm since Friday has been a bunch of bull riding. And I knew who this guy was before, but like I've seen a lot of J.B. Mooney. Do you know who that is? Like the best. So like there's Bushwacker.
Starting point is 01:09:19 Where's he from? Pick one Oklahoma Texas I know a couple years ago when I went No no no he's retired he's the greatest He's like one of the greatest bull rider of all Yeah so this is J.B. Mooney Yeah and by the way Rocking a cowboy hat on a bowl
Starting point is 01:09:33 That it doesn't get more badass than that So this dude There's a bull called Bushwhacker And this was like the meanest bull like even in the cage Like he will tear you apart And no one could ride this this bull He picked him 13 times in a row So at this point
Starting point is 01:09:49 I guess it's just when singles were around. Now they're doing like half team here. That's Bushwacker right there. Half team, half individuals. But back then it was all individual writing. He picked him 13 times. And 13 out of 13, he did not, we was not able to write it or wrote him once.
Starting point is 01:10:04 Out of 13. Yeah, out of 13 times. And he's the best of ever? He's the best ever. Did he intentionally draw it or did he just get it? And hopefully there's a PBR people. You can pick them. Like you get to pick, guys go, okay, I'll take this bowl
Starting point is 01:10:17 because I know his style of how he, bucks one time one time he wrote him I want to see that ride dude I did see the the bull is like eight feet in the air it looks like the vertical on this thing it is nuts is Bushwhacker retired oh yeah he's done he's done he's done I'm pretty sure Mooney owns him now but this is all this is all for the fans to kind of be like hey tell you're an idiot this is actually the story but like for all the PBR things dude right now just hearing about these guys you watch him walk around he's like he's got one of these all these dudes have ailments and they don't get knee brace
Starting point is 01:10:49 is on. Bro, they fuck their shit up. Dude, it is. I'm talking about broken hips, backs, knees. Like, oh, I got surgery, I'll be back in four months. Like, buddy, I, yeah. You might die out there. Right.
Starting point is 01:11:02 You got a photo of that right there, huh? That's a good boy. You found it home. Got that side tongue going. Yeah. I'll tell you. But no, but good, real quick, the show I think will be awesome. The only advice I would say is what I was curious about,
Starting point is 01:11:15 and you and I talked about this. That's true pro getting us right back on track by the way. No, I just want to know. going to be like Mr. Michigan guy? Are you going to be Mr. Nebraska guy? Because on bus and on your social, you obviously, that's your guys. But on an ESPN show and you're breaking down USC and Texas, people want to know like, or let's say Nebraska's playing at a game where they're a 14 point dog. How are you going to talk about that on that kind of show? I'm going to talk everybody into why Nebraska is going to win that game. Okay. So you're going to, you're going to. I got.
Starting point is 01:11:49 I'll be very I'll be much more toned down than I am Comfortably on the bus but I I'm just curious there there will be elements it's like You're not gonna sit there and tune in to Willie C on TV and like it's like oh Will's talking like this game is a toss-up everybody's gonna know a it's Hussker's right or die we need everybody today yeah I got that I'll be talking I'll be talking positively about the other team like I'm not you know I guess it just depends but I'm not gonna be the It's interesting it's gonna be the it's interesting because when I was coming up you didn't dare to cheer for your team on now if you were on local radio in lincoln you would say we
Starting point is 01:12:24 but i did local radio in columbus and when i went to esPN i would never talk there's the way in the 90s i would never show any kind of sign of favoring ohio state on the air i would just be i treat ohio state like i treat michigan that's how i've always done it and i think a lot of my growth in my career to where I am has to do with I've always just everybody's the same and people can get mad and not what but that was my personal career of like I want to call games yeah I want to try to be the voice of the sport where people can like wow he talks about everybody the same like that was my goal when I started times have changed if I were coming out now I maybe I would do it that way but it's just interesting talking to younger guys when it comes to like how you handle that because
Starting point is 01:13:12 I don't know if is it's a goal to ever be on game day is a gold ever call games, like for you guys. I don't know, maybe it's not, maybe it is. Because if it is, I just wonder, is that the play? Is that the play when people want guys on, you know, when they're doing games and Nebraska's involved in it.
Starting point is 01:13:33 Right, Will's just gonna be spouten off Nebraska propaganda. Yeah, we know who, we know his deal. Like they would never let me pick a game. If I'm, was the opening, LSU Clemson opening. No, okay, you can't make a pick. Because if I say, I think Clemson's going to win, then... Every positive thing you see about Clemson...
Starting point is 01:13:50 Yeah, it's like, well, courts. You know, he's a homer for Clemson. As if you have a saying who's in the game. Right, I don't care about anything. You know, I just want to be truthful. I just want to be truthful. I just want a last second field goal to decide the game. That's what I'm pulling for. Here's my thought on that.
Starting point is 01:14:02 And if you have a pushback, feel free. But this is just where we live, like how we got this show was... Being who you are. Yeah, and the podcast that's taken place. And so if I were, if I'm always tweeting about... Michigan how excited I'm about Michigan and then on the show and I go on the show and I'm like well if you look at it X Y and Z there's gonna be a level of inauthenticity that people are gonna be like well that's not Taylor you
Starting point is 01:14:24 you were just 15 minutes ago tweeting about how it's Michigan by 40 I kind of love the idea and this is a little gimmicky but I kind of love the idea of having a Michigan bias hat on set and a Nebraska bias hat to where I can if the hat's not on the physical hat is not on I'm objectively talking about the game and then I can put that hat on boom now we know this is how I truly feel, hey, we're going to bodybag Oklahoma in a week too. Just let you guys know, not a tear. He might be handsome, but we're taking him.
Starting point is 01:14:50 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And that's true to the busing brand and your brand. And it's true to my feelings as well. Like, it's hard. But see, I love Ohio State. Like, I would kill for Ohio State. Right. They play Michigan.
Starting point is 01:15:02 Like, I want them to win by 100 every time, every game, but I can never talk like that on the air. That's, and that's totally fair. Let me ask you that. That's why high state. His son's at Michigan. At Michigan. So before he went to Michigan,
Starting point is 01:15:16 were you ever sitting there during the game and you're picking Michigan? Oh, fuck, bro. Yeah. Like, I would talk highly about... Oh, fuck, bro. That's a little snippet you're going to hear on a show on Friday. It's right there.
Starting point is 01:15:28 Oh, fuck. Yeah, I picked Michigan to Beat Ohio. We got a dump butt. We hurry up and hit it. Hurry up and hit it. See, like, I will... If Michigan and Ohio State is going to play, we're obviously going to pick that game.
Starting point is 01:15:37 If I'm... Let's say Michigan is just in the dumps this year. It's bad. Yeah. I'm going to have... We'll get that hat, right. Hat's going to be off. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:45 And I'll say, objectively, Ohio State's going to win this game because they're better because of X1 and Z. I'll put the hat on and be like, rivalries. Records don't matter. Never know. Never know. the position you were.
Starting point is 01:16:14 For us, it's like these fans that are tuning into our show know us. They understand like our personalities and our lives outside of what you see on TV. So it's like if I were to go do something completely opposite of what I have, people would be like, oh, I'm less inclined to watch this. Because you're not being, I think that's, I think that's, I think that's way for your show. I think that's a great point. I think that's very fair. But it's very different from the way I came up.
Starting point is 01:16:33 It is. Yeah. Just because it depends not so much what you've done up to this point, your career. It depends on what's your, what do you see yourself five years from now? Like, what are your dreams? five years, 10 years from now. Like, where are you hoping this show, what you're doing currently, and this Friday show,
Starting point is 01:16:49 what do you, like when you close your eyes and you think about, man, it'd be cool to one day do that. Like, I don't know what that is for you guys. But I think... What is that for us? What is that for you? Man, I was literally thinking about this over the weekend because we had texted back and forth
Starting point is 01:17:03 and I figured you wanted to talk about vision of it and everything else. But my thought process is, when we started Bussin, there was a vision with Bussin and having a, podcast and being independent and having our IP and you never know what's going to come from it. And to be here six years later and having, what do we have like seven different assets now? And people are asking, hey, Will, did you see Bustin be coming into what it is now?
Starting point is 01:17:25 It's like that answer is no. I know this. It's like when we get into it, we wanted to authentically be ourselves, open up the locker room to everybody, get everybody, you know growing up and going through football, you're wearing the helmet all the time. Like people don't really understand these, whether it's vulnerable conversations, having humor, having fun, the wit, the banter, the shit talking, the ball busting, kind of encompassing that with busting with the boys. And then it's kind of, you just see where it goes. Like whenever these
Starting point is 01:17:51 opportunities come up, it's kind of like Taylor and I look at each other and we're like, oh, dude, this is badass. It's like when I think about this show, what I'm personally excited about is when we do bussing with the boys and breakdown stuff every week, a lot of our dynamic is talking about our team of Nebraska or Michigan and talking about some headliner things that go on. What I'm excited about is getting to show off my love for the entire game and I guess some knowledge with each team because there are a lot of things that I follow throughout the year. So getting to talk about those things to where when you look at Will and you think this is a Nebraska plant, getting to kind of show off that side of loving the sport at large. And then it's like depending on how the show
Starting point is 01:18:31 goes, I don't know. Like again, I didn't assume we were going to be in this spot now. So when an opportunity And then it comes our way. It's like when NASCAR came in and it was like, hey, we want to stand up a show with you guys and Omaha Productions. Would you guys be willing? And we're like, dude, we're imposters. We're not part of the NASCAR culture. We know we have an audience that tune in that love NASCAR, but we feel like imposters doing a show in the NASCAR world with you guys. But it's like, no, that's exactly what we want.
Starting point is 01:18:58 We want the audiences that kind of don't know exactly what it is because we want to grow the sport. And you guys do a great job sitting down with guests and people and kind of opening up the door showing off their personality. And so then you're sitting there doing an opportunity with NASCAR. So to answer the question, I don't, it's kind of, it's hard to figure out. But you don't have a goal. You don't have like, you don't see someone's job and think. Because when I was coming up, I thought, man, I used to watch Todd Blackledge and be like, wow, that guy, this is way long time. I was like, man, ledge is so good at what he does.
Starting point is 01:19:27 Yeah. I can't even imagine being able to do that. Or Craig James, who was on game day. Like I, those were almost like fantasy goals. Like I could never imagine. But that would be something I would. think about like are there are there people that you watch or or have you already reached your apex like is this where you want to be and just do this like this is good for you know you know what i mean
Starting point is 01:19:48 when you when you talk about like childhood go like you're looking at those those people and being like i want to be like them someday like that's what we did with football like sure 100% and you go to and it's like okay i want i want to go to the NFL and you get the NFL it's like okay like what is i want to start and then it's like all right what's my next call okay i want to be a pro bowl calvin i want to be an all pro guy. Hey, is there a world work? I never wear a gold jacket. And so you're living in this kind of linear. Totally get that. Like these are my goals. This is what I'm setting out to do. This is the dream. This is the dream. And while we're living our true childhood dream, come on in here, buddy. While we're living that dream, it's like busting what the boy starts.
Starting point is 01:20:21 Will's like, hey, I want to start a podcast, do with me? Oh, that'd be great. I'm still in this linear goal of like, how can I become, you know, the greatest of all in my brain, right? You're riding the same. How can I wear the gold jacket? Yeah. How do I wear the gold? How do I do this? And when I get out of football and some of those goals were met, some of those goals weren't, but that's the thing about goals. You kind of always move the goal post
Starting point is 01:20:41 every time you have a new achievement. Boston was already becoming something. I'm like, oh, this is incredible. So I jump in and one thing leads to another. So now we brought up. We have seven different verticals. I never in a million years. I thought this would be like a fun thing.
Starting point is 01:20:54 I didn't think about at the time that were like the only active NFL players to ever do this at that moment. I didn't think about that or what was taking place. It was kind of just like, hey, I hope my coaches aren't mad. Right. that I'm like openly talking about stuff on a pocket and have our own media and now that this has happened it's like well how many awesome experiences can we have because all bustin's been is like kind of throw stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks and it's not like the most rock solid foundational game plan you can have for like a life or a career or like a business but it's like it's gotten us to this point it's got us all of these guys it's gotten us the locker room which has brought us to josh pay which has brought up that relationship which is now ESPN's interested so we go on get up every week during the fall and and we go on get up every week during the fall and
Starting point is 01:21:34 and they're like, hey, you guys are great. You guys want to do a show? It's like, oh, yeah, it'd be incredible to do a show. But, like, I'd also love to sit in a booth one day and just call a game with Will. I think that would be awesome to do that. Do I want that to be my life? No.
Starting point is 01:21:46 Like, not that I know of unless I do it, and I love it. But I love to do that. We did the SEC championship last year of pay. Would love to do another one of those simulcasts. And it's just like, what can we do? What are the boundaries and where can we get to the boundaries and be like, well, what's the other side of that boundary? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:00 So it's kind of like, it's a constant brain. So I'm at least in my brain that's taking place. It's like what else is out? What else is out there? Like this, where you're seeing on the screen right here, this is our spring tour. Yeah. And dude, two or three years, we did this and it was like very like,
Starting point is 01:22:15 I was also like cookie cutter for us. Like we go tour the facility and then we go sit down with a couple of players and a coach. Yeah. Last year we go to Oregon and it's like we're, we worked out with the team. We went and did a walkthrough. I sat in meetings.
Starting point is 01:22:26 We had to talk to the team, which was the initial goal of keeping the locker room to life. That now is one of my favorite parts of the year. Right before I'd be like, all right, we got to do this live show, you know, on a Tuesday afternoon. That's kind of whatever, but, you know, we have this and that. And that idea just first started by is like, I was sitting there talking with Taylor. I was like, it could be cool to do like a spring tour. We go and do our interviews.
Starting point is 01:22:46 And then we would have a live show. But it's like nobody shows off the, you know, there's not a whole lot of people showing off the spring, the spring ball side of football. So you sit down with coaches when everybody's undefeated, everybody's got vibes and feeling good about what the season is going to be. and then year after year it's growing into now we're going in and teams are trying to top each other because they're watching on our social every week here's what you guys did at you know who we go to first Notre Dame before Miami Texas Tech Notre Dame sees what we do at Texas Tech the Notre Dame cats have watched everything we've done on the spring tour and they're trying to put around structure to top everything that we've done like well they did that let's do yes because they have
Starting point is 01:23:25 recruiting and then you're sitting back like you know this is a badass part treated like five-star athletes, which is great content. People get to see it who never get to see that type of stuff unless they actually are a five-star athlete. And the experience is incredible for us. All right, quick potty break to shout out our sponsors. The first one, Lucy, that's the daily. Espresso is my favorite, hands down, and that bite and burst thing where it pops and hits you with flavor. Oh, it never gets old. I mostly use it to lock in. Starting point is 01:26:16 Commercial use excluded. No refunds. Let's get back to this episode of Us with the Boys. Well, that to me sounds like I totally understand you guys as athletes having a goal of like playing in the league for as long as you can or pro bowl. or whatever it is. And then that chapter closes for a lot of guys, they struggle. Oh, yeah. On their next, what's my next why? I'm sure a lot of your buddies are still struggling. So it's great. You guys have found this. And it sounds like you're more, instead of goal oriented for this
Starting point is 01:26:43 next chapter of what this world is, it sounds like it's more like you're open-minded to kind of seeing where it takes you as opposed to I want to do, now that I'm doing this, I want to do that. You don't have that. You more of. Right. It's more of like, shit. this Friday thing just opened up with Pate, this is going to be killer. And a year from now, maybe they'll come to us again and something else will. And be like, hey, we love you guys on the show.
Starting point is 01:27:07 We'll just take it as it comes. Yeah, I see. Yeah. Because then there's another element too. And I'm sure, I'm sure you know, it's like as we've gotten to build this and kind of have our independence through it, is we can also kind of pick and choose,
Starting point is 01:27:22 like things that we want to do. Because if you do too much, then we have so many masters out there where we also have lives and we're very conscious about having our young ones at the house right now. And then if you're doing too many things, you're just, you're literally working all the time. And it's like, is that what we wanted to eventually do? It's like, you want to play football.
Starting point is 01:27:40 You know, as a young man, everybody wants to do something, accomplish their goals and to have financial freedom. And when you have those things, is that, okay, are we going to continue to move the goalpost? We can do anything that we're wanting to do. But where are we going to draw a line to, hey, if we do this, we're literally going to be working seven days a week. We're gonna be traveling all the time. We have a young family, we have the opportunity to be at home with our young family. So then you're kind of just in a position
Starting point is 01:28:04 to where you can pick the things that you would enjoy doing the most. Versus like you're committed to something, you work for somebody and you're having to show up and you're having to grind your dick off at all times. And it's like, is that the life you wanna get into when you have kind of this control and getting to choose where options are.
Starting point is 01:28:20 And especially if you have financial independence. I mean, you're just pretty much calling the shots. Right. I mean, it's your world. Yeah. Which is, and it's like, you, I mean, you've been able to do it for three decades, which is incredible. A lot of guys, we saw just a couple months ago, people who have been around for a long time, just was the job and they don't know what to do next.
Starting point is 01:28:36 Like for us, it's like, just keep going. And when they tell us, hey, we've had enough of your face on TV. It's like, all right, man, this has been, because to me it's been great. I am so grateful for the opportunity. I can't wait to like pour and invest into learning all about this, getting to talk about the X's and O's, hopefully having a good time where people can enjoy my personality, but also give them some nuggets so when they go to the lunch table on Monday
Starting point is 01:28:59 they can be kind of say it as if it's their own and then just right like what's wrong with riding the wave having fun to see what else opens up and then eventually they're going to go hey we had fun but you got to go yeah it's like all right just like the NFL incredibly great yeah because then kind of like you see it in the NFL so much right
Starting point is 01:29:16 93 guys goes to 702 we're about to see in a couple weeks exactly goes to 53 and it's like eventually I mean Will's been cut I bet you get cut and it's like you have two ways to go about it I can be super upset and have a bunch of reasons why. Or he's like, hey, how awesome was that I even got the opportunity to do this. Yeah. And so I'm choosing to sit there and be like, everything we're doing right now is so much fun.
Starting point is 01:29:36 Could not have planned. Couldn't have, you know, journaled this or wrote this down as a kid of how I wanted my life to be. And it's, I'm, you know, 10 years married, three kids, had a great NFL career. And now I'm doing my best friend. 30s? 35. 36. Can be 37.
Starting point is 01:29:51 You're still warming. You're still warming up. You're still warming up. I know. And that's crazy. In the scheme of life, you're just still warming up. Yeah, yeah. I mean, you've accomplished so much.
Starting point is 01:30:02 Three kids, married 10 years. How many kids do you have? Two kids. Two kids, four and the second one will be two. Are you guys done with kids? Are you gonna still have? So, well, I'm still dropping Seaman Team Six in there. Taylor's chasing the chew, I'm chasing a boy.
Starting point is 01:30:17 Yeah. I'm still chasing that boy, too. We're talking about a fourth already. So I have nine, six, just turned nine and six, and then literally, I think, four weeks old, four weeks old. Oh, congrats, okay. I didn't realize that. So yeah, and that's on me.
Starting point is 01:30:32 I was always like, I told my wife when I first made, I was like, I have as many kids as you want, but if we have two girls like in a row, like right away, I'm done. I don't want to be the guy that chases the boy like, Tony Dews, he actually recruited me to Michigan and then it was a running backs coach for the Titans later in my career. And he has four girls. Oh my gosh.
Starting point is 01:30:49 He's got a great family. He's been married for a long time, but he's like chasing that boy, I've seen multiple coaches chase the boy and have a bunch of them like, I'm not gonna do it. So when we had Willow, our second kid, I fought tailing off for two, three years. And then finally I like fully bought in.
Starting point is 01:31:03 But now that the age gap's there, it's like, well, we gotta give this one a buddy. You gotta have, we gotta have a pair team with a buddy system, we have like heavy weights. We ran a full court press on them. Yeah, they basically did. Taylon wanted to and we got all the boys were kind of prying at them.
Starting point is 01:31:17 Are the kids the same age? But you're gonna- So my kids are both, my kids are older than his, Nine and six and you're nine and six. You're four and about to be two. Okay. Yeah. So they like what's great though and you know, Will you can stamp this if you want. My kid, my older kids are phenomenal with younger kids. Like they made they're really intentional like when Rue comes over to the house.
Starting point is 01:31:38 It's like hey make sure you include Rue and from my perspective they could go upstairs and be assholes. I have no idea. But it feels like they take those kids and they have a great time. That's cool. My old is she's very empathetic. She's great at including people. and then my youngest, she's a little savage, but she's incredible as well. You have a secret on how many do you have?
Starting point is 01:31:58 Four. All boys. What's your secret? Secret to get boys, man. How do you do it, man? Well, my wife, to be specific, my wife was a gymnast. So when we would get done with when we were done,
Starting point is 01:32:19 she read something or something. Like handspring? She would, no, she would do. A handstand? She heard that the male sperm were faster. Yeah. She would do a hands, head stand or handstand. She would do up on the bed and we're four for four.
Starting point is 01:32:38 How long is she holding the handstand? Oh, she's up. She's a gymnast. She's a gymnast. I don't know how long, but. Hey, crack the code. Correct the code. Can I just-
Starting point is 01:32:49 Like, all right, Kirk, hit the timer. We gotta go two minutes from this stance. Can I just say, one thing though my second we did the same thing my wife was not a gymnast so I held her legs oh I held her and we're both laughing about it I'm like sweet we got it we're getting the boy this time and we have willow I love you will oh that's great that's great yeah that's so there's your secret there we go yeah that's a great secret that's a great clip you gotta give that a try That's a great clip.
Starting point is 01:33:16 Oh my God, I'm dead. I am dead with that clip. Did you, at any point did you, did your wife like want a girl? Did you want a girl? I wanted a girl. Yeah? They are the best.
Starting point is 01:33:25 They are awesome. Well, we don't know if they're the best. We kind of do because I just like, you can envision having the boy. Like anytime your little girl does something and you're like, man, if they were a boy, you'd be operating a little bit differently with them. They just have your heart in such a different way
Starting point is 01:33:39 that they got you. And also dude, like I have seen my two girls and then like two boys in the same room and it's a different that's a different ball game yeah it takes place like these two set like my kids are jumping off at tables yeah like that's all I knew I would have a buddy come over and Jordan Ruse his kid Thor is incredible but Thor was two years old at the time can't swim doesn't know how to swim instead of going to the splash pad which his parents told them very specifically this is where you should go yeah he's going to run to the deep end
Starting point is 01:34:08 and then just suey himself into the deep end it's like dude what he's like picking him up by his leg putting him back and it's like literally it's like that video of like the goat that keeps trying to jump into the fire like that's literally like pull his ass out you know that you see the video right so if you turn away we got a problem yeah oh dude and I I got crazy ADD I'll get locked on something for a minute so I don't know if I could be successful having a boy I don't know if I could I'm going to find out when we have the fourth but it's like Scotty now she's 21 months and she's starting to say like she's starting to say I love you back like love you dadda and I just feel like if that was my boy, I'd be like, I love you too, buddy,
Starting point is 01:34:44 or I'd be glad that he loves me. Whereas when Scotty says, and I hear it coming from her mouth, it's like, I just want her to continue to say and I could start weeping right there. It's like, all my little girl loves this shit out of her dad. I can't imagine. Taylor does this thing where she sends me things on Instagram, and it's like, what a father means to a daughter
Starting point is 01:34:59 and I'll click on it, the music starts, and I'll just, I'll swipe out, like, fuck this. I'll take it, I'll be right next to me laying a bail, but I'll just put, no. And I won't respond or. I can't do it, dude. I'm down to get emotional, but I gotta like find my pockets.
Starting point is 01:35:11 Yeah. 1 p.m. on a Tuesday and my wife just says me something I'm gonna weep and then go do you know rip in some you'll rip some cards right after I'm gonna go dress up like ash catch Are you? Are you an emotional guy or not? I've grown to be an emotional guy. Yes, I would say so Yeah, are you? Oh yeah absolutely I have not never had to grow into it. I've always been very emotional Yeah? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you're emotional cat? I'm like dick for meal. Okay, who? Dick for meal. Come on. Don't do that. I might my is the show canceled? Rams Super Bowl head coach. Well, what? What? What? What? What? You're, uh, what? What? What? What?
Starting point is 01:35:42 year. When the Rams went in 90. Oh, guys, I was on a dirt bike in Arizona. No, we know my own. But he was, he, every time he'd stand up to talk to his team, he would, after a big win or something, or a tough loss, he'd get up there and start to, and then he, he just start crying. Like every time he. I love that. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:36:00 Nick Siriani before the, during the national anthem of the Super Bowl. Oh, yeah. That was amazing. That was amazing. Dude, you see those guys do that? And it's like, yeah. You just sit there as a man, but like, dude, I feel that. I wish I felt that right now.
Starting point is 01:36:14 Yeah, kind of tearing up with that. Yeah, the national anthem one was power. That was a big one. Who was, who did that national anthem? I don't know. That's what looking up, Sheram. Who did the national anthem? I think it was stable.
Starting point is 01:36:24 Oh my God, he killed, too. He killed that. Yeah. Something about a good national anthem, man, juices you up. I'll tell you what, PBR. That would, dude, she killed it. And then the- How Americana was the whole deal?
Starting point is 01:36:36 Un-bole- dude, I was laughing to myself. I mean, I was like, my wife when I walked out of there, Dude, they did a five-minute celebration on the Border Patrol. This is, like, all right, all right, whatever you guys want to. But I'm thinking like, this is what the woman riding on this horse has been apart for two decades of the U.S. Border Patrol. Everyone's like, fuck yeah. I'm like, oh shit.
Starting point is 01:37:00 I don't have seen that on Twitter people losing their mind about that. That's crazy, bro. It was wild. And then the pastor coming up. Yeah. And he's just hitting us with it. I couldn't understand anything he was saying. Dude, but him getting.
Starting point is 01:37:12 juiced up about these bull riders right here give them the strength of sit on these beasts for eight cents I'm making myself hope this dude's hyping me up yeah hi in the name of the Lord and the whole arena's right man yeah oh yeah oh yeah this is a different kind of America right here this is this is what the left is talking about all time oh man it was it was it was a different it's got a badass it was it was it was it was it's a face back there Just getting them trety waters for a second. Quick pivot, professional pivot. How did it feel when your son came to you and was like,
Starting point is 01:37:50 I want to walk on a mission? Because I love the fact that you're like, I love Ohio State, but I won't do that on TV, very professional of you and everything. But knowing that personally you feel the way about Ohio State, and then your son is like, I'm going to walk on. Well, he got a scholarship.
Starting point is 01:38:04 That's why he went there. He got a scholarship. Yeah. Don't get you. I suspect that. I heard walk on. I heard one up. No.
Starting point is 01:38:10 That's okay. So he had opportunities, North Carolina, North Carolina State, possibly Penn State, as a preferred walk on. Gotcha. And I thought Michigan as well. And then late in the game, he got an offer to go to Michigan. So it was kind of a no-brainer. I mean, it was like, but I have no problem with it. Would you have a problem if one of your kids went to Ohio State?
Starting point is 01:38:33 I would just, yeah, Iowa was your in? Yeah, I'd have a bit of an issue. You know, it's tough. Kirkhry is like, hey, who's your arrival? I know. It used to be, bro, it used to be Oklahoma. Like it was like, awesome. It's like we want the rivalry of Iowa, Nebraska,
Starting point is 01:38:49 but I was just, I mean, they beat her ass for the last decade, so it's kind of hard. Yeah. But to answer your question, like, when I have an issue, I probably have a bit of an issue. Really? I guess it just depends, though. It'd be interesting when your kids get older, you know,
Starting point is 01:39:01 because my kids were brainwashed Ohio State fans. I mean, they knew the fight song when they were three. And my, I mean, my dad played at Ohio State. He was a captain. He coached with Woody Hayes. He coached with Bo. He went with Bo down to Miami, Ohio. They started a cradle of coaches at Miami, Ohio.
Starting point is 01:39:16 I had always incredible respect for, because of the way my dad trained me. I wanted Michigan to win every game they played except one. And I wanted to, I mean, Michigan beat Ohio State. I cry. It was like end of my life. And so I was properly trained to respect, but hate Michigan on one day out of the year.
Starting point is 01:39:35 But if they played USC and a Rose Bowl, I wanted Michigan to win. I never really had this new era hate of Ohio State and Michigan. It was more of a, when I was coming up in Ohio, all those kids either went to Ohio State or Michigan. And it was a, it was a, yeah, you hated each other that day, but it was an incredible respect. So I just never really had that. I go up and visit him. We bought a place right behind the chop house.
Starting point is 01:40:04 Nice. You know, we just kind of, we're parents, you know. And I really think when you guys, it's his, all your kids, it's their journey, it's their path. And we'd be idiots to be like, nope, not on, not on my watch. I'm like, man, this is your thing. This is your thing. Fair.
Starting point is 01:40:19 Like, you know, it's like, he's got a chance to get a scholarship to go play quarterback in Michigan. I just am like, you know, I'm not going to wear a Michigan shirt. You know, my wife wears a Michigan hat. She wears a, you know, a shirt. Got a lot of blue on in that photo. I have blue. But you see anything other than the lantern,
Starting point is 01:40:37 You don't see anything from me that's... No, yeah, that's... You're playing the game the right way. Did he have an opportunity to go to Ohio State? He did until late, and then he did not. And I have no... Chip Kelly was the O.C. and Ryan Day, and it was just...
Starting point is 01:40:55 There was not going to be an opportunity there. So it was okay. I don't begrudge them, or I love... There's nothing there at all. I love Ohio State. But when that opportunity presented itself, man, it's like, dude. Yeah, you get a Scali at Michigan.
Starting point is 01:41:09 How about this? We got a call. We were about to call SEC Championship, Georgia, Texas. We were in the Georgia Dome. Nick Saven, myself, Chris Fowler, Holly Row, doing our production meetings. And Friday night for the game, Sart comes in, meet with him. And for 30, 40 minutes, he gets done. We're in a sweet looking out over the field.
Starting point is 01:41:34 My phone rings. It's Michigan's. GM guy and he says hey we want to talk to Chase we want to offer him and I'm like Chase is there with me traveling his season had ended so I'm like I'm in a middle like Kirby's just coming in so I I hand the phone to Chase and Chase and chase and this guy talk and they do the paperwork Chase signs everything over his phone and by the time I get done with Kirby he signed he signed with the paperwork to go to Michigan and I'm with Nick Sabin and Fowler who doesn't say yeah it was cool
Starting point is 01:42:07 And then, you know, Coach Stevens, like, congratulations, boy. It's a great opportunity for him, you know. Fowler, Holly Row was like crying for him. It was a cool moment for him. And he wasn't a highly touted guy. He is like starting in the mail room. And Bryce came in same class. And Bryce is like his biggest supporter and 100% like just grinding.
Starting point is 01:42:32 You know, he was a scout team, offensive player of the year last year. Wink Martindale was a D.C. would unsolicited call me like this fucking kid is driving me crazy like running throwing and he's like he's going to play here i was like awesome man i appreciate it but he has no expectations he's like he's the guy that's going to be there for three or four years and all of a sudden he's going to know the offense better than the offense coordinator and the door's going to crack yeah honestly i know it sounds like that's what i think it could be sounds like mac jones at alabama could be that kind of guy we had mac uh when he was in the show he explained he was he was a offensive scout team player
Starting point is 01:43:06 Yeah, too. Yeah, Jaylen, two. Just wait your turn. He's like, it was always them too and then me. Yeah. And he kind of just stayed there. Is he, I mean, I'm sure if he stays there for a long time, rumors keep coming up, D.C. Keep calling you.
Starting point is 01:43:18 They're also calling other people, but this kid rips. Yeah. Other teams are going to call him. It's 100% him. Yeah. So other teams, so are you, what's your stance on the transfer? Are you like, hey, you should stick with it type of thing? I personally think going to the University of Michigan,
Starting point is 01:43:34 unless you really need to go then it's again this is his path I'm here to listen I'm not here to say this is what you're doing but you don't see Michigan man that's a unique opportunity not only on the field but off the field as you know the alumni there the connections that you make in a school like that
Starting point is 01:43:55 or sometimes you have to look at a 40 year plan and not just a four year plan and Michigan I feel like is one of those schools but if if he had to an opportunity to go and let's say like two of the guys that were in his room last year one's going to start at Stanford this year the Davis kid and and the other one's starting I think at Arizona State Mikey Keene so two guys that no one even knew they were on the roster last year both are going to start this year so if something like that presented itself at schools like that
Starting point is 01:44:23 he'd have to think about that you know he was at Fresno say he was supposed to be the starter yeah last year yeah well he was like the insurance guy if Bryce isn't you know and then he he had some injuries yeah I think he had like a peck or something happened yeah something I think he wants to coach too at some point. That's awesome. Yeah, he's really good. He lit it up at Fresno State. You watched him with this film.
Starting point is 01:44:41 Yeah, he was, he's at ASU now? ASU. Supposed to be the starter. Yeah. I tell you what, Dillingham too. I know. He calls some good plays. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:44:50 Asu will be interesting. They basically play everybody in the, all the top half in the Big 12 this year. Yeah. And they have an early buy. Yeah. That's tough. So you have an early buy and you got that back half the year.
Starting point is 01:44:59 I'm a little split on the on the buy when it comes to college. Like for me, my body, like I don't even get in a cold tub and that's like hey you have to get the cold tub like after practice I never was like a big like got to go in the gym and warm up until like probably my second year in the league when I was like oh I got to stay out of the chains as far as recovery goes so I don't know if like when the guys are so young if like the buys really matter do you do you think if you were coming up now you would do it different oh if I knew if I knew what I know now probably yeah I'd be I'd be immersed in such a different world like the world of high school football that I grew up like
Starting point is 01:45:29 grew up it is completely Chandler or where were you I was at Chaparral my senior and then I was in a smaller school. Catch a shout. It's my first three. But like it was, hey, you're hanging out with, it. It was classic high school football. Like Monday through Friday, you do your, Monday through Thursday, you do your practices. Friday, you go play the games. You play the best you can.
Starting point is 01:45:45 Then Friday night, hopefully someone's got a fake ID. Yeah. And get a case of Bud Lys and then get after it. And then you just wake up Saturday, go to film. And then that's the only film you'd watch all week was a Saturday after your game. Right. And then you kind of get a loose scattering report on who you're playing. Are you, is that Phoenix, like a suburb of Phoenix?
Starting point is 01:46:02 So it's Maricopa County. Maricopa County is like one of the biggest counties in all of America. It's it's so encompasses everything. Cave Creek is not. It's just on the outskirts of that. It's like its own district. Okay. And then Chaparral, it's in the middle of Scottsdale.
Starting point is 01:46:14 It's like Paradise Valley, very well off area. Beautiful area. I did. I mean, boys will tell you I'm high on Arizona. Yeah, it's a great area. Do you have a place there? No, no, no, I don't place there. Will you down the road, you think?
Starting point is 01:46:26 Yeah, I think eventually, let's say with the whole dream thing. It's all over like ESPN and Will's like, hey, I'm done with you. It's like, all right. I'm gonna go out west. I'll probably head out west. Arizona is the one that calls me the most. But we have a place in British Columbia, Canada. A lake house must where my wife grew up is Colonna, BC.
Starting point is 01:46:43 So we got a place there and then one here. And now I'm kind of, I'm real estate it out, you know, because we got my spot. I feel like every other day there's a leak or something taking place. I'm like, this is just fucking nuts. It's like, it's a lot. You know, you don't only become an adult until like you're out of the lady. You're like, oh shit, like you got to take care of things.
Starting point is 01:46:59 Yeah. You really got to do that. It's like something's broken. Yeah. Gotta fix it. I want to bring something. I'm going west too, by the way. Where are you headed?
Starting point is 01:47:06 I want to go to Montana maybe. Montana rips. Yeah. See, I would do you. When you're thinking about doing that? Now. I mean, I want to find a place now. Like Yellowstone Club or I want to go out west somewhere and get a place where you can enjoy the summer in the winter.
Starting point is 01:47:20 When do you think you'll be done? I don't know. I don't, I don't, it just depends. I love what I'm doing. You know, I love doing the NFL on Thursday. I love working with Al, who's a legend, obviously. The Saturday stuff is unreal. It's hard to do all three, man.
Starting point is 01:47:37 I don't know. That's what I'm fascinated by. One year left on all three jobs this fall. I've never been a free agent mine 30 years of doing this. I've always just kind of re-uped when I had about a year left. I don't know. I don't know what I'm going to do. I love it all.
Starting point is 01:47:52 So I don't know if I'll keep doing it or I don't know. We'll see. I'm not close to being done now. How has the experience been juggling all of that? Like going Thursday night football. Brutal. turning your brain completely on college, understanding everything going on for a Thursday night game.
Starting point is 01:48:07 Yeah, it's flipping the switch, trying to get, trying to get aligned, everything going on Saturday. And you're flying somewhere else to do the night game on Saturdays. I think the actual act of the job itself isn't, that's fun. But the preparation, I may, like in my brain,
Starting point is 01:48:25 overachieving chip on my shoulder, I was a solid player at Ohio State. I wasn't, you know, like, You guys are superstar players. I was just a, I was a solid player. So for me to be on the game day set, I was like, holy shit, I'm doing game day. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:48:43 And then to call games at that level was a massive accomplishment for me. When you look at what Desmond, like almost anybody who's on air nationally, they're coach or a player. They were really high level. Won something, a chief, something. Yeah. I wasn't that guy. So I've always just had a build-in chip on my shoulder,
Starting point is 01:49:02 of preparation is my kind of I'm going to be the most prepared guy on the air of any show that I ever do. So I still try to approach all my shows that way. So in order to get there, like Sunday used to be a day of like recovering when I just had game day and Saturday night. I'd come home Sunday. I was just tired. Now Sunday. And you get to be home. Yeah. Be home like you guys were talking about with your kids. You just want to be present with your kids. Well, Sunday now is if I'm doing Rams, Chiefs, like I'm watching Rams live and I'm watching Chiefs. Let's say Chiefs are on it for us noon, noon central and let's say the Rams are on late that night. I'm watching both those games on DVR and all the games. Then I get coaches copy because, you know, it's a short week.
Starting point is 01:49:48 I mean, it's tough on players on these Thursday night games. It's really tough on me because I do Saturday night game and I'm already behind by the time I get the Sunday. You do that for 18 weeks, you know, it's a challenge. I love the challenge. I've kind of have found my niche after doing it for four years. But yeah, it's it's a ton in order to basically if you're awake, you're preparing for something. Yeah, yeah, yeah. To get ready to, because you can't just go on, like people don't realize, they just think put the headphones on and just turn the game on and call the game. Like, you have so much film study and so much time on the phone and on a Zoom with coordinators and players and trying to tell stories about specific guys. Because imagine calling
Starting point is 01:50:31 a Nebraska game and imagine that fan base and imagine doing it from a national perspective and not knowing stories and being informed on things you you sound like this guy clearly sounds like he don't know what he's doing and maybe you listen sometimes in Nebraska games and you're like right right you know what I mean I try so hard not to be that guy I mean I'm sure I am that guy sometimes but I try really hard through my preparation to know as much as I can but it just takes so much time to get to that point. So when that light comes on, when you are prepared, and again, you prepare 100%
Starting point is 01:51:09 and use that much of your preparation. That's the most frustrating part. Yeah, I know. Like, wouldn't it be great to know? Like, it's like, yeah, if I knew exactly what we're gonna talk about, you guys would save me hours of preparing for all season. It's like the TV experience, how just, you know, we'd have some anxiety and nerves like doing Get Up every Thursday.
Starting point is 01:51:26 There'd be all these things you're wanting to prepare and study for and then you only use a couple of them. Right. Right. But the thing, what if it went that way instead? What if Graney took you that way instead of that way? Like you're prepared for that way, but if he takes you over here and you're not prepared. So you have to prepare for all the ways.
Starting point is 01:51:44 Right. And he's only going to take you one way. Right. And you have to prepare for all of it. We had a couple blunders. We had a couple. But honestly, I was so much fun. It was on brand.
Starting point is 01:51:55 It was on brand. And I think that's where. What happened? Well, no, we just had a handful of times. I answered one question. I was dialed in and ready for. I looked at Taylor. I was like,
Starting point is 01:52:03 are we talking about these two things? He's like, yeah, I was like, all right, because there's the rundown sheet they give you, right? And then that changes until the show starts.
Starting point is 01:52:11 So between, in commercials, I would go and I look, okay, all right, the next two things we're going to talk about are the Vikings and the Eagles. Cool.
Starting point is 01:52:18 I know my Vikings notes. I know my Eagles notes. Any way they take me in my brain, I'm ready to go. And if it's this, I'll talk to Will on the plane. I'll be like, hey,
Starting point is 01:52:24 if they go here, I'll talk a little bit And I'll pass to you because you have a really good stat on this and it seemed like you framed it really well. So I'm going to give that to you. And then we would do that and kind of bounce off a show, which is great about having a teammate in this. So we are about to talk about on the sheet. It says Kevin O'Connell, like Kevin O'Connell, school of Kevin O'Connell because both of our breakdowns were. We're going to talk about how if you're a bus, no worries, just go to Minnesota.
Starting point is 01:52:48 You'll get it figured out. Look at all the guys they have. School of quarterbacks. School of quarterbacks. We come out of break. Greedy starts talking. He asks a completely different question. has nothing to do in Minnesota,
Starting point is 01:52:59 rips it over to Will and Will's like, and Greenie Finns, he goes, that's not at all when I asked you, Will, but that's okay. He passes it to me and I'm sitting there and it's Greenie, me, Will, and I'm like, I've registered his question. Will didn't need to register shit
Starting point is 01:53:18 because he had us Kevin O'Connell bit. So I'm in my brain like, all right, I'm going to answer that question. It's serious Will's done with this. And he passes to me and we finished it off. That's great, but we don't even have a graphic. for that on the screen right now.
Starting point is 01:53:30 And you were so pumped. You let it, you let it arrest. Let it win. Then I do one of those things. You didn't kick him under the table? Like, bro. This is Ron Burgundy with a teleprompter. Ain't nothing you can do.
Starting point is 01:53:39 Like, he just, fuck you, San Diego. It's where Will win. But the thing is, is like, I think that's a guy, gotta be a piece of why they enjoy us. It's like, oh, these are just, these guys know football, but look what they'll do sometimes.
Starting point is 01:53:52 Yeah. The article. Wilcompton on the struggle buster and get up this morning. There was an article on that. I guess. I guess. That's the beauty of having you guys on here.
Starting point is 01:54:00 That's so. That's a beautiful. That's classic. You know what though? It goes to show you that you get so worked up in your mind about, okay, the next segment's of Minnesota that you're not really present when you're, especially when you're first starting out. You're not present and hearing like what's going on and you're like, okay, Minnesota.
Starting point is 01:54:19 Okay, I'm ready. And you're going through your Minnesota thoughts and Greeny and the producer probably like, okay, yeah, we'll move Minnesota to two seconds. segments from now. Yep. So let's move Bengals Browns up here. Okay, sounds good. And you miss that. Right. So then, all right, here we go. Let's go. Bangles Browns and you're going Minnesota, Minnesota, Minnesota. Yeah. Be on point. Be on point. Yeah. Because again, it's like we come from this world of podcasting where we can go any which way. And if there is a blunder, you sit there and laugh about it. We joke about it. We go into another story. It's actually for you guys,
Starting point is 01:54:48 it's better if there's a blunder. Yeah. It's a better. You can have two many blunders. Yeah. Like one every three weeks. That's a good pace for bus. That's when you're like, All right, these guys are human. Yeah, you know. Absolutely. The person on the couch watching us is like, they're just like me. Yeah. They can relate to that.
Starting point is 01:55:04 Yeah, yeah, exactly. Okay, I'm going to take you away like 20 minutes ago. Yeah. But you brought up how the like growing up in Ohio. Yeah. Growing up in Ohio is like one day a year you hate Michigan. And now it's just this crazy. We despise each other 24-7.
Starting point is 01:55:21 When do you think that changed? And do you think it was like a more of an internet thing? Because now we have access to each other for 365. Has to be because I do feel like the rivalry was, even though you have a great amount of respect, I feel like both sides like do when they're sitting in a room and they're just talking shop when nobody else can hear the rivalry stuff going on. But it's like growing up, you saw like whether you're at Ohio State or Michigan, people and fans would be burning couches outside the stadium back in the early 2000. So I feel like it's been there for quite a while.
Starting point is 01:55:50 It's so like it was so concentrated on that one day, one week. And now it's like, I'll go there. I follow all the burner accounts. I like to get fueled up. It's ugly, right? Yeah, oh, it's ugly out there. Yeah, like I've seen on the Big Ten Network, they'll show, this is years ago, but they'll show Archie Griffin, for example, and two or three of his Ohio State teammates, and they'll have three or four Michigan guys that played in the same era. And they'll walk through some stories, and it's almost like they sound like teammates.
Starting point is 01:56:20 Like they're talking about the 76 game, and they're talking in such, like, poking each other like almost like you guys do kind of poking each other but there's admiration in the way they're talking to each other um and that's how it was forever and then it changed i think around the david boston charles woodson era like in 97 98 is is michigan michigan started to kind of go to another level they won a national championship in 97 with woods and in green I'm sorry split national champion no no no no who won the night he said the Michigan Wolverines won the national title 97 but he also he's free to speak is he's true as I want to know from a Nebraska standpoint who do you think won the 97 but I bet you on their stadium they have national
Starting point is 01:57:12 championship yeah they also have consecutive sold out stadium they have a bunch of stuff written on their stadium oh hang on we're getting you're getting you're up the tracks you get up in the baron he said amory we we we got that way wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait for us Wait, wait, wait. 1997. So 97, we go to the Rose Bowl, we watch Michigan beat Washington State, good game. I have this abscess tooth, like I'm not exaggerating, it's like a golf ball,
Starting point is 01:59:45 sticking out of my neck. Michigan Team Doctor gives me this like pain medicine. We fly that night, Delta, Red Eye to Miami. next day we're at the orange bowl for uh Tennessee against Nebraska and Nebraska this is supposed to be a great game Peyton Manning supposed to win the game Nebraska's trying to win maybe this is before people don't realize BCS there was no national championship games so Nebraska wins everyone thinks Michigan's going to win the national championship it's a night game I went to the emergency room to get this abscess tooth looked at I waited there for three hours didn't get looked at
Starting point is 02:00:19 guys in motorcycle motorcycle accidents bleeding everywhere they're going ahead of me i'm just sitting there they're like abscess tooth we'll get to him later i sat there for three hours finally we're about to go live to do tv uh pa came and pick me up they're like we're on the air in like 45 minutes we got to get you back so i'm like all right so i'm on my second year on the show i'm like i guess i'm going go back watch the game from the sideline can i'm talking you can die from an abscess tooth i didn't know i had an abscess tooth at this time like officially watch the game Nebraska beats Tennessee up. Now we have to wait.
Starting point is 02:00:53 It's like two in the morning. I just want to go home. I get this thing. We're waiting for the coaches poll. The AP came out and gave Michigan the national championship. We're assuming the coaches are going to vote Michigan. Everybody assumed if Michigan won the Rose Bowl, they're going to be, they're going to win it all.
Starting point is 02:01:08 Everybody thought. We're waiting around. I'm going to sleep in a rental. I get a rental car, a national rental car. I'm asleep in my car. It's like three in the morning. They finally say, You imagine doing this.
Starting point is 02:01:20 Three in the morning. We need you on Sports Center. The coach's poll came in. It's a split poll. They gave it to Osborne. Nebraska gets a national championship. I'm like, what? So I go up on the desk.
Starting point is 02:01:32 We do a segment or two, me, Fowler and Corso. I go home, go to the hospital. I get operation. I'm in the hospital for like five days from this abscess truth. Could have died. But the thing that blew me away, you guys think about this, you guys, it's ironic that 97 with you two.
Starting point is 02:01:50 I just cannot believe that you, I mean, great team, Scott Frost and those guys, awesome team. I think Mon Green might have been on that team. But I just want to know, and you guys are talking about it. Michigan claims a national title, obviously. If you go to Michigan, you'll see a 1997 national championship. You go to Nebraska, you'll see a 1997 national championship. Isn't that interesting?
Starting point is 02:02:09 Yeah. It's so foreign to like the new, like the younger generation, because we're just so used to a playoff or BCS. The BCS started the next. next year in 1998. Oh, no way. Yeah. And the reason why I was because it was split.
Starting point is 02:02:22 Tennessee played T. Martin replaced Peyton Manning. They played Florida State. Chris Wanky, hurt, broke his neck, guy named Rooster, Marcus Altson came in for him. Florida State heavily favored. But all the teams, Big 10, Pack 12, Pack 10 back then, everybody was in the same pool. So if you were good enough, if that would have been the year before, it would have been Nebraska against Michigan. Yeah, which would be in the national title.
Starting point is 02:02:46 But from 98 on. we've had a national championship game. But 97 was the last year that we've had. Some good history. Yeah. Good history. You do claim it though, right? Oh, yeah, absolutely.
Starting point is 02:02:58 I mean, I mean, think about it being a former player too, like which poll. Yeah, the coach's poll is. Which poll would you? But I'm just telling you as a guy that was there, like, taking it all in. Michigan was a force that year because Woodson, won the Heisman and they had gotten so, it was like a title wave. They played Penn State and what was called Judgment Day.
Starting point is 02:03:24 They had an awesome game. And it was them really in Florida State most of the year. And then they just kind of took off. So it was a massive surprise when Nebraska got that coach's pull. Let me ask you this. And we all wonder, was that like a nod to Osborne? Because that was what, three and four years?
Starting point is 02:03:43 I think, yeah, they were just, they were behemoth. Yeah. Yeah, 93, 94, 94, 95, 96, 97. You had the abscess tooth, but looking back on it, at that point, who do you think deserve the national championship? You're trying to, you know. I'm just wondering what.
Starting point is 02:03:59 I think both teams. Oh, Eric, don't be. Come on. Are you kidding me? Oh, that's a game we're going to play. No way, dude. I'm not getting involved in that. That would cause an absolute tidal wave.
Starting point is 02:04:11 Yeah, everybody. Nebraska. Give it to us, man. Let me give you this quick story, because Nebraska, we're doing this ESP. CNU was a brand new station. I remember. And we get into this debate, Mark May, Lou Holtz, me, all these, they brought some legends back and we're talking about it.
Starting point is 02:04:27 It was kind of a boring, politically correct conversation. The producer gets in my ear. We start talking about who is the best teams ever. And somehow we were caught up in Nebraska 95. And the producers in my ear are like, come on, man, you gotta like spice this up a little bit. Like this is boring. And so we, I said, my. Miami 01 is the best team of all time.
Starting point is 02:04:51 And somebody was from Nebraska. I can't remember who it was. It was like, what are you kidding me? 95 Nebraska. They went through the list of guys. I was like, bro, 01, Miami? Look up 01, 2002 Miami. I mean, those are some of the best teams ever.
Starting point is 02:05:05 So I was like fighting for 01 Miami. I didn't crush Nebraska. From that night on, Nebraska fans think I hate them. Like they absolutely. Hey, from that night on, you're dead to me. No question. I've been back to Lincoln a long time, but yeah, because of that silly, stupid-ass show, they think that I, those 90s and Nebraska's team, have you ever seen highlights of those
Starting point is 02:05:30 teams? Oh, buddy, yeah, and the stats too are crazy. Oh, my. Play them every week on better. To, what is this one right here? Those, that 95, 94, 95 Nebraska teams. Crazy. Insanity. Insanity.
Starting point is 02:05:45 Winstron Peters. But it was the deep. It was the defense. Yeah, yeah, that was like the black shirt. Yeah, yeah. Tommy Frazier. Dominant era. And all those guys were Lawrence Phillips.
Starting point is 02:05:55 I mean, they had some freaks. But again, the deep, like, they beat teams before the game started. Like half jersey. Just looking like, just looking like goons, bro. Some of the photos, too, of the half jerseys, the guys in the wait room. Why can't we get back? Why can't we get back to half jerseys, by the way? That was my era.
Starting point is 02:06:11 Yeah, the guys would take the half jersey. Zeal Elliott kind of brought it back. He did. Yeah. And they would push it up underneath their shoulder. shoulder pads, so just abs. Something about the looseness, too, of it as well, like Ezekielia and some guys have brought it back,
Starting point is 02:06:23 but they're so tight, I do, I do kind of like the looseness. You guys are talking about a half-ters. Are you a guy that sees the DBs with the quarterback? Sleeves and go, oh, I kind of mess with that. No, no, not now. I'm just saying back in the day, it's like Ray Lewis comes to my brain when he had the visor on.
Starting point is 02:06:38 Oh my God. He had a little jersey, the half-Jurzy. I had a cowboy color. Ray Lewis in a Miami uniform mired. Oh yeah. But you guys are all about the pants coming up. I did a game last year with Oklahoma kicker. I said on the air, I was like
Starting point is 02:06:51 some bitch has Daisy Duke shorts on. If you pull it up. It is getting outlandish. It was the Oklahoma Tennessee, Oklahoma Tennessee game. This dude had like a jock strap on. Basically a girdle. Five and a half. It was embarrassing. So I'm about
Starting point is 02:07:06 shortening the jersey while you guys are trying to shorten the pants. I want to shorten the jersey. Do it both. Keep the pants. They don't have to cover the knee. But let's I like a little VMO at you. I'm a little You talk about Daisy Duke bottoms. You want that shit. Look at that shit.
Starting point is 02:07:21 I mean, that is, that's an embarrassment. That's, that's embarrassment to the sport. I can't stand that. Hell yeah. No, he's a badass. He's a badass. But, and he got, he and I had some fun with it. But it's, that's, that's, you can't, you can't wear pants.
Starting point is 02:07:37 You can't, man. I do, I like, I like the pants being. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's got to be above me. Above me. Above me is nice. What he's showing? There are receivers and DVD.
Starting point is 02:07:46 He's a photo, trying to get up to the quad. Yeah, you can't go make quad. I think you're a pants up. I was a pants up guy, but I liked the just above the knee. And I had them, I was like, I told the Titans, I was like, hey, cut my pants a certain way of all, blah, blah, and they ended up kind of going like that. I think there's a game against Detroit and might have been 2016 or 2015. And it's not that important, but.
Starting point is 02:08:08 Well, you want to the first linemen, do you think, to come up with your pants up? Who else would have done that? I was probably one of the first lineman that looked in the mirror before a game. And was like, how does everything look right here? You know, I was, I was, dressed like a skill position. Yeah, some swag. I didn't like, dude, I did the sleeve later in the career.
Starting point is 02:08:25 That's, that's, that's 16-minute. Why did you go after the DB? What was, the, the DB from the, at the time, the Reds-D-Sormon? Yeah. What was that about? So we were- Was that in fine or was like? No, that was, I was, I don't know if they were,
Starting point is 02:08:37 I didn't know if you were boys and you were just like messing with him. We had, so it was, Josh. Christmas, it was like, I think, a December 23rd game. And Redskins come to our play. We're in four minute drill. We run to the left, smart choice by the OC.
Starting point is 02:08:50 And we get like four or five yards. We're trying to essentially ice the game. Yeah, kill the clock. Josh Norman comes in and tackles Derek hitting to the ground, but kind of like gator rolls. And it's like, hey, dude, we're like at the end of the season. You're like, in my brain, you're trying to hurt. Yeah. Our guy.
Starting point is 02:09:05 Our best player on the team. And so this is when Josh had that arrow thing. So after the game, we win with a Malcolm, I think it was Malcolm Butler pick six at the end of that game. Trent Williams almost caught his ass, by the way, which was absolutely incredible. So after that game, I were walking up, I go to Trent, I hear the go. I love you so much.
Starting point is 02:09:21 And I see Josh, at the time, I'm thinking, look at this bitch ass sitting on the bench. Walk over to him. I go, Josh, get the fuck off the field. And that's when all of this went down. I had him with the air. Oh, okay. Did you know him?
Starting point is 02:09:34 No, so I didn't know him. Will played with him. And so... I love Josh. So me seeing this, oh, man. Apparently Josh is an incredible guy. But I saw, he's obviously, everyone's got their kind of like character that they play
Starting point is 02:09:47 when they go in the field, right? Some guys were more than others off the field. But Josh. What was Josh's character? Batman. Yeah, he, yeah. I mean, you saw him to his house. He has the engraving of Batman.
Starting point is 02:09:56 Oh, okay. Oh, yeah. He was a guy that would get in the guy's heads. He did a fantastic other. There's a couple years there. He was like the guy. And this is like, I think maybe in the middle of that or just towards the end of that like really dominance.
Starting point is 02:10:10 And just watching him do that to Derek really pissed me off because there's nothing in football that pisses me off more than when a one of your elite players, especially the quarterback, takes a hit and you see a bunch of office linemen in camera frame and walking. Just standing there. It's like, bro, what the fuck are you doing? Like, you need to set the tone and take 15. Who taught you that besides yourself?
Starting point is 02:10:30 Anybody reinforce that in high school or college? That's a good question. I think, um... Clearly it's a passion of yours. I just wonder where... Or a former O. Lyman that you watched that you're like, I kind of like the... Somewhere along the way something had to like... That's a really good question.
Starting point is 02:10:42 No, I just... So my first three years of high school... It's like a hockey thing, by the way. It's like if someone messed with a superstar, like Sid Crosby, the guy's coming off the bench. Like, I got 25. I'll take care of his ass. That wasn't where my brain was going, but my dad grew up in Minnesota.
Starting point is 02:10:56 And so when we were younger, he had us in hockey a lot. My brother got drafted for juniors. Okay. And so my dad was big on hockey, culture of hockey and stuff like that. Yeah, and if you mess with a stud. Yeah, so maybe that is, by the way, have you seen this movie? No. Phenomenal.
Starting point is 02:11:10 A great. I'll watch that today. Yeah, yeah. It's, I mean, text me what you think about. Yeah, I will. It's a good movie, but it's like you got to be in the mood for one of these types of movies. It's a low budget film. Okay.
Starting point is 02:11:23 But anyway, my first three years. That's a dude to tell, that's, what's his name? Stiffler. Stifler. Yeah. And he's like, you got shot in the fucking judge. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:11:34 Olds school reference. I like, I like you. I like you. I like you. You're fucking crazy, man. But, uh, my first three years of high school, I played nostackle. I was bad. My high, my high school high, my high school.
Starting point is 02:11:45 What was your height and weight as a junior? Oh, I was 6, 7, 220, 2.30. All right. So you looked like a hooper. You looked like a hooper. Yeah, yeah, I was, I was tall and really, really lanky. I think I was like 254 of my first. Did you run track?
Starting point is 02:11:58 No, I didn't do anything. I was, I got, like, legal trouble at like 13. And my dad's like, you got all this anger. Like, you need to, we're putting you in football. We go 8-0 my first year. I'm like, oh, this is kind of dope. I'm ineligible for the last game. my grades.
Starting point is 02:12:14 The next year we won a state championship, go 15 and 0. And I'm like, football is the most incredible. Because before that, you guys were bringing up like early 2000s reference. I didn't care at all about sports. I played all of them, but I was in- You're riding motorcycles. I was out in the desert. You know, finding half-smoked cigarettes at a target of ashtray and like smoking them
Starting point is 02:12:32 after that. Like that was, that was me. And so I played nose tackle for my first three years. And then I transferred a chaparral because this kid named Craig Rowe, who played at Michigan as well. Rest in peace. And my dad's like, you should go down here, play office line. You have the frame for an offensive lineman.
Starting point is 02:12:48 Did you have to move or do you drive the school? I had to move into the district for it to be, quote, legal. I got you. And once I went down there, my dad's like, hey, you have it like, you're clearly an aggressive kid. Like, just bring that to office line. Because office alignment aren't really doing that. You can be this guy.
Starting point is 02:13:03 So like then it was, you know, getting 15 yard, you know, penalties for unsportsman like conduct and a whole bunch of stuff. I got sat out a couple of games. And then it became like a protector's mentality of. I got you. Okay, I'm not necessarily like, this is about me, this is about this guy behind me and this guy running the football.
Starting point is 02:13:18 And they kind of just snowballed from there. But it was always a shit talker. Okay. Always. Always. Why weren't you in the sports when you were younger, just where you grew up? You scared of the ball?
Starting point is 02:13:27 Dude, that's a really true point. Yeah, in like, Little League Baseball, I would like step away from the ball in the batters box. I quit football. I was a corner in third grade, Fastest kid of my team. Did you play hockey or just your brother? I played hockey for one.
Starting point is 02:13:41 I can't imagine you on skates. I played mites. So I played mites There was no checking allowed The next one I think was pee-wee Is that the next one? Yeah so pee-wee Yeah so pee-wee
Starting point is 02:13:51 I was like listen Do you want to talk about The iced in tarantulas I had a hat trick in my house In my house league In the championship So I was kind of nice I had handles
Starting point is 02:14:01 We go to pee-wee the next year I'm trying out for a travel team And I get hit by this guy To me and my brain he's still 6-7 He's like my height now But he was 10 And I'm like fuck this I don't like the contact
Starting point is 02:14:13 None of it. Why do you like motors? That's dangerous too. I don't know, I just was obsessed with it. I got one when I was five years old and just became obsessed with dirt bikes. I had a PW 50, which was a Yamaha. And I wrote that.
Starting point is 02:14:25 Yeah, ripped those. I was obsessed with that. And I was in a nitro circus and, you know, metal militia, all that. And then I hit puberty and I was like, contact kind of, I'm kind of about this contact thing all of a sudden. So it really just, it switched around like 14. I was like, I'm about football.
Starting point is 02:14:41 Interesting. And it just, You didn't watch it, no interest in it? I remember we would watch the Super Bowl, and like the only football player I really knew was like John Elway and Trill Davis because that's from the Broncos. I think they went back to back,
Starting point is 02:14:53 Packers and Falcons, or maybe one one lost one. Look at this. You kidding me? I've been on skates in 10 years right there. And that's, that's professional. This is in February. Oh my God. But this is the first time I've been on skating since I was like 10.
Starting point is 02:15:05 Lokey nice, Loki nice right there. Oh my God, that's amazing. Yeah, so I don't know. What is that? That is in, that's in, That's in Colonna, not Colonna, but that's in BC Canada. I forget what it's called. Big White.
Starting point is 02:15:17 It's like the highest elevated pond in North America right there that we're skating on. That's freaking great. Yeah. Didn't, you were the, I'm guessing you were the complete opposite. I'm not going to let you do this. You're running up-tempo offense on us right now. I was going to say, I'm picturing him with a football in his crib. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 02:15:37 He's in the backyard. He's in the Dallas Cowboys. That's my person. That's my person. That's my percent. Troy Aikman, all of them. In the 90s, me, my old man. Again, I can't let you do this.
Starting point is 02:15:44 I have to pick the ball off because you are running tempo offense on us. Hit that. We can, but I do. Hey, you guys didn't, didn't you call a game of his and you had some words? I didn't call a game of his. I was in a suite.
Starting point is 02:15:55 I had a couple cocktails. Oh, really? I thought you were on the mic and talking about him finishing somebody. No, no. Something like that? I don't know if we, had we met before the infamous tweet? No.
Starting point is 02:16:06 Oh, it was a tweet. Yeah. It was a tweet that was like, oh, you call, I think it was like something around the lines of like selfish. guy. Was it like a clip against the Raiders? Was it like a clip against the Raiders?
Starting point is 02:16:16 It was. It was. It was against the Raiders. And I don't, we were driving down to win the game. DeMarco Murray was getting stood up and so I dove head first into a pile and we got a penalty. I did not hit any apartments other than my own teammates. Let me tell you. We ended up losing that game.
Starting point is 02:16:34 Andre Johnson caught a ball in the end zone. They called them for offensive pass interference and then we went, I think we, you know, a couple of ducks and then we were done. done and after the game the Kirk Herbstreet because our podcast just started right yeah yeah maybe uh no i don't think i was on the it had to be on the team this is the long right before it had to be the first couple episodes i brought up kirk coming at me right you might have brought it up but i wasn't on the team when this you weren't you weren't on the team i wasn't on the titans at that point do you want can i tell it say the resolution or do you want to talk about the conflicts first you tell you i want to hear his my take on it was i i became friends with um
Starting point is 02:17:11 with Mark, DeMarcus. Marriottes? DeMarco Murray. Yeah, I became friends with DeMarco Murray. And when you become friends with a guy, it's like you're pulling for him, right? And I didn't know him. I looked at him as a guy that was an instigator.
Starting point is 02:17:27 True. Even though I was a fan of the Titans. Fair, yeah. And he seemed to get late hits from time to time where he's coming into the pile. Totally fair. And I felt that that one, I had a couple drinks up in the suite.
Starting point is 02:17:42 I felt that that one maybe cost him the game. And it happened so many times that I was, I was so fucking pissed off. Yeah. If he only knew. And I'm an old school guy. Yeah. Like, and he's a Michigan guy. And I think not like Michigan guy is a bad thing.
Starting point is 02:17:59 Michigan guy is like, Jake Long's not doing that. Like I'm, Steve Hutchinson would never. Hutchins doing it. Like a traditional Michigan guy, he's more helping guys off the pile. He's not coming in cheap shot and guys. So I think if he were a Nebraska guy, or it probably wouldn't have been so passionate,
Starting point is 02:18:15 but because I, no, because I had expectations of what I thought a Michigan guy was, and then because he had done it so many times, and I had a couple drinks, I fired it off. I love that. But does that add up? And I never talk to you my life. We've never, we never spoke up to that point.
Starting point is 02:18:34 I do agree that because of, because of my penalty right there, we probably would have won that game if I didn't have that penalty. Now there's always like a handful of plays right that decided a game. But that one specifically was like I walked in that locker like I fucking let all 53 these guys down. Yeah, that's how I thought. And you remember the back end?
Starting point is 02:18:50 So that's the resolution. Once I'm a guy that gets emotional for eight seconds. And then once it's gone, I'm like, I wish I didn't do that. And then I didn't see him for maybe a year or two until. So it was probably that off season. So this is the apology to it. Nothing better than an apology. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:19:08 So this is the off season. it's like April or May we just started OTAs and the Preds the preys and you were doing the drinking this is the first of the you know I think we did the it might have been the the luge of the catfish that that one where they kind of went you guys had an entire suite and someone I was with wanted to go up to say hi to somebody yeah I'll go up there whatever so you walk in I'm kind of like obviously I know who you are and I had been a fan of you because I talked earlier about this in the college game day like it'd be so sick Everyone knows who Kirk Herb Street is.
Starting point is 02:19:42 And credit to you, like, you didn't, you didn't put a shoulder away from me or anything like that. You came up to me immediately. When I was going to, like, I was going to go at your pace. Like, what if you want to talk or not? I think I've said something to your wife too. Yeah. And you came up to me and he's like, hey, I overstepped there.
Starting point is 02:19:57 I'm sorry. You know, that type of thing. And then I think we had a really good conversation. I can't remember because a couple drinks on mine. I felt awful. Yeah. And I mean, since then, I think we exchanged numbers that night too. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:20:09 And then from then. it's turning to this. Yeah. So there is, it was a funny way it went down, but, dude, I get it.
Starting point is 02:20:16 I mean, I, I, like, 100%. Like, if you went to Indiana or Illinois, probably wouldn't have been as,
Starting point is 02:20:21 but there's Michigan, I just, I'm an old school guy. I have a Michigan like, yeah, a bar at a respect. Yeah. There's a bar.
Starting point is 02:20:29 And I just felt like, Michigan guys don't do that. And you know what? It was so, that, that part of my career in like 15, 16, 17, with all the penalties,
Starting point is 02:20:38 it was so loud then. And it's, it's very easy for anybody to jump because I myself I would get done doing things I'm like what the fuck what was I doing why do you think you were doing that hey that's an amazing yeah that is hilarious the recap now yeah you are caught yeah I was hashtag fake tough guy hashtag aloof that's that's the craziest thing that is wild try to hustle I see you walking off the Oh, fraud, pathetic. The periods in between.
Starting point is 02:21:08 That is amazing with that. That is a screenshot that I need that for the post. You're announced, cold home, shoot, all that. That's hilarious. Screech. Yeah, I need that. I need that for my post to promote this episode.
Starting point is 02:21:22 Dude. You're the worst. You guys are the worst. Oh, dude, that is funny, man. I'm embarrassed about it. Don't be, don't be. Don't be. Don't be.
Starting point is 02:21:31 Don't be. That's a former. You do not do. former you, right? You don't have to worry about what, look at us now. We're sitting here and I would genuinely call us friends at this bro. And that is, I was very passionate.
Starting point is 02:21:41 I know, dude, I love that. That's a beautiful love story. How did you two meet on Twitter? It's actually right there. Dude, it was a, but to go back to why, why do you think that? I just, to me, it's like, I wanted so bad for us to be like the most dominant offensive line. I want people to be afraid of us.
Starting point is 02:21:59 I want guys to be like, if you stand around a pile and our guys going down, there's missiles coming at you. Ben Jones started to do it. Jack, Jack Conklin started, Josh Klein, Quentin Spain. And you guys were a strength. You guys were a strength, right? Well, going into that year, we were supposed to be a massive weakness. People were like the Titans, because we went two and 14, three and 13. This is the next year when we end up going nine and seven. And it was like, how do we like identify as like more of the tougher, don't want to fuck with us offensive lines? And it was like, oh, dude, I'm, I'm, I'm missling. I'm putting my body in the line for these piles. Okay.
Starting point is 02:22:33 And yeah, I mean, clearly it wasn't a smart move. That was a penalty. We lost the game. It could have been 10 and six. But, you know, it's a that you always, it's always like the line you want to find as an offensive lineman. Because you see, I hate, like we have already talked about when guys were kind of just walking. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:22:49 To the next thing. I think that's more common now, don't you think? Was it? Guys that are walking, quarterback gets earhold and they're just kind of like, oh, my bad. That to me is like, dude, you got to just, if it's a very like a point in the game where it's like we gotta have it like you gotta save that for after and like getting the you know jaw at the guy a little bit but we don't want to swing or nothing like that but like anytime your quarterback it's hit like you got to get in that guy's face yeah you've got to like we had i won with uh
Starting point is 02:23:12 richard sherman where it's like dude he hit marcus as he was going out of bounds and it's like a whole scrum and i fucking squeeze my way in there because you just you just want it to be known but he's doing the hurry up on us oh yeah he's doing the hurry up oh yeah all that said all good oh good dude that's funny no no no that's on us yeah right it takes It takes two. It takes two. AP top 25 just dropped. Oh, just now.
Starting point is 02:23:37 I think just now. Yes, sir. So we filmed this on money. This is going on what, two weeks though, right? Yeah. So dropping a clip. Okay, we'll clip this today. What stands at?
Starting point is 02:23:47 Let's just, we're in a brainstorm. Big Ten has three. I thought they had more. Three in top ten? And the coaches pool. One, two. I think I use under, undervalued there. You think so?
Starting point is 02:23:59 Yeah. I think they're coming back again. Really? Yeah. See, I just, I don't know. The Hoover kids, I mean, it's, we don't, no one knows, including Signetti if he's gonna do it. But the last two, Rourke was good too.
Starting point is 02:24:12 It wasn't just. And you didn't know what you're gonna get out of Mendoza. Yeah. True. Yeah, coming from Cal. I mean, their system, they're so well coached. And they just don't make mistakes. They don't make any mistakes. It's like they know what's happening
Starting point is 02:24:22 on the defensive side of the ball. I'd put I you higher than that personally. Georgia three. See, I thought Georgia was being, kind of people forgetting about him a little bit. They haven't been talked about a whole lot of the off season. I kind of sat on that. Like, you never want, like, here's the insurance policy.
Starting point is 02:24:37 Never bet against Kirby Smart and go to Stockton. Okay, that's down the shelf. Like, if you bet against them, you're probably wrong. Yeah, but you're betting against them. I mean, it's been Georgia and Alabama and the SEC, I have won the SEC since forever besides 2019, right? Yeah. The perimeter guys, they had Zachari Branch had 81 receptions last year,
Starting point is 02:24:55 a set of school record. Like, Mike Bobo, he loves throwing those perimeter shots and letting his athletes go. I just might not be privy to what they have on the perimeter this year and their defense align No one knows what they have a receiver They get no pressure unless they blitz
Starting point is 02:25:10 I think they're going to be better in that area But they started to come on At the end of last year They did With the young defense and they have a lot of returning production And then you got the running game They couldn't run the ball that well But you have those two stud tracks coming back
Starting point is 02:25:23 Yeah Offensive line will get going I feel like you know They've been top five of recruiting The last however long They're going to have somebody show up on the outside somewhere. But you look at Texas and how what they've done in the portal, you see everything coming
Starting point is 02:25:36 out. And I know, I know August is all just highlight clips that schools are put up. But you see Cam Coleman go up and get a couple of those balls. Looks like George Pickens. It's an, it's incredible to watch. Arch, I think this is a perfect place for Arch to be right now. People are still like he's a manning. He could be X, Y, and Z.
Starting point is 02:25:52 Yeah. But last year was way too much pressure to put on him. And now it's like, he's almost flying under the radar. And everyone forgets like, I think the second half of Mississippi. Mississippi stayed on. He was on fire. Second half of the season, really. You watch, I mean,
Starting point is 02:26:04 just watched the bowl game against Michigan. Like he had, what, 150 yards rushing. Yeah. And he lit us up as well. And that's Wing Martindell, you know, him calling the plays and stuff. He's, I think they should be higher.
Starting point is 02:26:16 I look, SEC has six of the top 11. Of course. So the AP poll is biased then. However, everyone's, if you compliment the SEC are biased, so the AP is biased.
Starting point is 02:26:25 First time. Fair enough. First time in the AP poll since 2015 that an SEC team did not receive a first place vote, though. And look where Bama is, man. It's a good news. Interesting time. That is interesting.
Starting point is 02:26:36 Look where Bama is at 13. This is a, this isn't a time where Alabama fans are worried. Like they're, they're that run, obviously, with Nick Saban. And now they're thinking, some of them are thinking, we're okay, and others are like, this isn't the guy. And imagine, the guy's still winning a ton of games. Like, Nebraska would kill for what Alabama is doing right now. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 02:27:00 Seriously. And these guys are like, see, I know, but you always got to, you touch me when you say that so I'm like, fuck, he's just basically, you might as well pat me on the head. But hey, you're right. You're right. The Alabama fan, this is a big year for Alabama and Kailen DeBoer. Do you think it gets, if they don't make the playoffs, it gets a real lot for Kailen? I think it's hot or gets rolled?
Starting point is 02:27:23 Gets hot. If they don't make the playoff, absolutely. Yeah, I think so too. Absolutely. He's an amazing coach. Coming after the greatest of all time is all, it's an uphill battle. The personalities could not be, impossible. Could not be any more opposite to how they run their program.
Starting point is 02:27:41 Miami at seven, it's all going to come down to Mensa. They're so loaded. They are. But is Mensa the guy, just like IU. IU could be higher, but is Hoover going to be what, what Mendoza was last year? The best, to me, the guy that I love is at 9, Trinidad Chambleus. I love. in the backfield.
Starting point is 02:27:58 Oh my God. I love that team. Week three, LSU and Lane go back to the Grove in Oxford. That is going to be, incredible. Yeah, you guys are obviously going to be there. They haven't announced that. But yeah, you're absolutely going there.
Starting point is 02:28:12 We would go. We have to figure out where we're going. Penn State at 18. I think Penn State's going to be top 10 by the time the season is over. You think so. They don't play Ohio State. They don't play Oregon and they don't play Indiana.
Starting point is 02:28:24 They have the softer schedule. They have what? Michigan and USC has to fly across the country to the Eastern Times. I'm telling you they're going to win 10 games. Matt Campbell is an outstanding. Couldn't be a better fit for Penn State than Mike Campbell. Yeah, we got a fan question here. underscore Ethan Ratliff.
Starting point is 02:28:41 Who has more success in the next five years, James Franklin or Matt Campbell? Throw another one in there at you two, Bob Chesney at UCLA. Which staff are you throwing stock in on? I think James Franklin's going to get a new life. I pray that he brings the Hokies back. Lane Stadium used to rock. That used to be the most. When we found out we were going to lay,
Starting point is 02:29:06 not just InterSaman, but just the entire game. They're just one of those fan bases that stands and cheers. The opponent gets a first down on third and seven. Ohio State, they sit down. Michigan, they sit down. Virginia Tech, they get louder. Like, they used to be a great place. So hopefully he can bring that back.
Starting point is 02:29:22 I would give Matt Campbell the edge out of those two. But actually, I like all three. I think Chesney, what's the last time we talked about UCLA football? Dude, never in. In your lives, have we talked about UCLA? Yeah, I guess Josh Rose. Yeah, I mean, but you're more talking about an individual than you are the team. They weren't nationally a factor.
Starting point is 02:29:40 Yeah. And I just think UCLA in this era of NIL is so difficult to be successful right now. Because a lot of their money is going towards other sports as well. They're more diversifying. Yeah, softball. Your stadium is 45 minutes away. It's very difficult. But he's creating some, he's creating some juice.
Starting point is 02:29:58 And they have, of course, they got the quarterback. And you have a quarterback. Which is now a year removed from all that drama. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, there was one point two. They're the hottest three and no team in the middle of the season of all time, right? When they made that switch.
Starting point is 02:30:08 They made that switch and got it done. I like it. Can you go back to the AP? Still love the uni at UCLA though. I hope they come back. See, I was never. Never liked it? I never liked it.
Starting point is 02:30:16 I was never a huge fan of it. The Texas Tech. Obviously all the Soorsby stuff, but like, yeah. Cody Campbell, getting them up there. And McGuire, Joe McGuire. He's a great coach. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:30:28 Yeah. Hammond is a dog. And again, people are acting like they don't have a quarterback. I mean, they've got a quarterback, and they've recruited incredibly well. They also have an easy schedule. Great coach. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:30:39 They're a playoff team, for sure. One team that'll end up a little bit higher, Notre Dame. I mean, they've got. I got Notre Dame winning at all this year. I mean, the top five right there, even six, seven. They're handling, how they handle the bowl situation for interpretation. First class. How you like it?
Starting point is 02:30:56 I thought they didn't say anything. The AD did, the coach didn't. They moved on. Oh, Marcus Freeman was like, we got to play better. We got to, we can't leave it up to the committee. Yeah. We got to win games. But the lot of people saying they took their ball, they went home.
Starting point is 02:31:11 Marcus didn't. Maybe the fans and. Yeah, the fan. I'm talking about the public. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think they did. Yeah. But, man, I was so impressed.
Starting point is 02:31:18 Marcus Freeman was like, we got to be better. Yeah. Have you seen like a lot of clips coming out of their camp? So in their indoor, they have a giant base screen where they'll go, they'll run plays and then you can actually watch it back in real time which is really cool. Yep.
Starting point is 02:31:30 But they'll play during warmups, like games of them losing. I saw that. There's one from like Michigan 2012. Yeah. There's a couple of last year. Ohio State last play the game. Right. There's a whole bunch of stuff
Starting point is 02:31:41 and it's like we went there in the spring game or the spring practices for our spring tour. CJ Carr, like you can never judge a quarterback off of one practice. It's inappropriate to do. You shouldn't do it. But the aura that this kid. You know, people say it.
Starting point is 02:31:55 The competitive nature is. Whatever it is, he has it. Yeah. We saw it the night before when we were just playing knockout with the entire team. Right. When Freeman had all the boys over and C.J. Carr is, he is a competitor. He's an animal. I think he is going to be a stud this year.
Starting point is 02:32:09 He's a, he's a pretty high on the odds. He'll be a He'll be a He'll be in New York. Should be. Yeah. Archmanning. Trinidad Chambers. It's a massive year for quarterbacks. And Notre Dame.
Starting point is 02:32:21 I mean, just the brand of Notre Dame too. Like if he has. an above average year. He'll be in the conversation. Yeah. And they get to kind of ramp up to the playoffs. Like they'll host Miami.
Starting point is 02:32:31 They also got SMU. They got BYU. They got like two or three games. Right. They're going to be challenged. The rest of them, I mean, nine or ten of them. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 02:32:39 CJ, he's number one right now. And that's what I'm saying. They get BYU, Miami and SMU toward the back after the year to where they're kind of ramping into the college football play. Know who they know who they are by then. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:32:50 I think, I think, you know, teams like we're talking about USC this year, I think they could be better than people are talking about. I think Nebraska and Wisconsin are kind of like two teams that because of the quarterbacks, they've upgraded a quarterback. I think Raola is a great quarterback when I say upgrade based on the fit of what Nebraska needs.
Starting point is 02:33:07 Couldn't agree more. I think they're in a better spot. I think Wisconsin, they went to Old Dominion, brought a quarterback in, who's kind of a dual guy. I think both those teams could be better. Big Ten's loaded again. Minnesota's going to be good. Iowa's going to be good. There's just really no brains.
Starting point is 02:33:22 Washington. Washington's tough with that quarterback. Yeah, Williams. A lot of good quarterbacks this year. Yeah. Who's the team in top point in time? He's not in it. Put them back up there again.
Starting point is 02:33:32 So Mitch Carsley just said, who's a team that's a team that's not in the top 25? I see a team in the top 10 that I don't think's going to be there and that's A&M. A&M? You don't like Marcel Reed in the voice? No, I do. I just, I feel like when I'm looking at all these teams.
Starting point is 02:33:44 It's interesting. Pull up A&M would be the one that's not the top 10. It's a bitter taste in your mouth with A&M because of interesting. How well this season is. was going, then they lose their last game against Texas, and then they kind of get bounced by a Miami team that everyone thought shouldn't be there.
Starting point is 02:34:00 Right. And they put up what, six points? Yeah, they didn't move. They did not play well at all that day. But ain't them all of their wins last year was against the bottom half of the SEC. Anytime they face a team in the top half they lost. The AP poll shows others receiving votes just to like see the teams that are kind of left out at the bottom end of that. Mitch's question's good too because at least one team
Starting point is 02:34:22 that started the season unranked finishing the top 10 poll in the last 29 of 32 years. So an unranked team finished top 10. How about that? So who? The question is, who will that team be? If we go down the list here, I think Clemson's going to be a lot better than unranked.
Starting point is 02:34:38 And Davao Sweeney is playing it up. He is like, we're a bunch of nobodies. Don't worry about us. They open up with LSU. I think Florida with this new coach, Summerall, I think they're going to be a lot better. You think you like South Carolina just lost a couple receivers. They did.
Starting point is 02:34:53 For the year. Two of their best receivers. Yeah. Yeah, I saw that article. It was the first news I saw this morning. And I, I look out. I like Oklahoma State. Oklahoma State.
Starting point is 02:35:02 Yeah, new coach. Mastermaker, what's it? Mastermaker. Oh, the kid from North Texas. Yeah, yeah. How about Vanderbilt, man? Like, I feel like everybody just thinks because Diego Pavia left that they're done. I got a lot of respect for Clark Lee.
Starting point is 02:35:16 Yeah. I think they'll end up ranked by the end of the year. When the crazy chaos of the coaches getting fired in the middle season last year, I thought, Clark Lee's out of here. Yeah. He'll be gone. Hope he sticks around. I thought he was like,
Starting point is 02:35:28 be a Florida or Auburn. Yeah, I could see that. School's he was going to go to. But how about the renovation, what they've done to that stadium? And for what they had to work with. Yep.
Starting point is 02:35:35 Now they're going to knock the press box down and puts kind of like what Michigan did, that old press box and put that beautiful like three levels of all the way from Gold Line to go. That's what Vanity's going to be awesome. That'll be great. And it's like if you can have the continued success, there's so much money in Nashville. They will,
Starting point is 02:35:52 they just need probably probably one more year. of being like, hey, if they can prove that they're more than Diego Pavia, which I think they will, then I think what you're saying. We'll get to see what that five-star. What's his name? Jared Curtis.
Starting point is 02:36:02 I don't know if he's starting yet. I don't know either. Is that the kid from, is that the New Mexico State transfer? There was another kid. Well, what's up with that. Oh, he has been. He came over from New Mexico State just like Pavia, right?
Starting point is 02:36:17 Yeah, he was on dinner. That's what I thought. He came last year. He's second year, yeah. Yeah, but that's, I'm, I'm, interested to see Clemson. I'm interested to see Dabo and I'm not I'm not like fully invested of the lore of like Clemson South Carolina but we got J.P. Hobie who has been with us for four or five years. He's the biggest South Carolina guy ever and even we bring up Clemson and if they walk away from
Starting point is 02:36:40 Davo if something happens this year with they have a year like last year and they let them go. J.P. is even there to be like they, Clemson has to remember who they were before Davo got to Clemson because the grass isn't always greener. Yeah. You know. So you know, you know, so you know, you know how this world works now. Yeah, no doubt. It's like, yeah. Show me, don't tell me, it's not for long, the whole thing. All the phrases.
Starting point is 02:37:00 Yeah. Not to just keep being a stack guy, but the last time Clemson was unranked, they started 8 and 0 and won the ACC championship with that. How about that? He knows how to play that underdog role. He's, yeah, the whole quote of like, we got a bunch of nobodies. That's exactly how they need to be friendly right on cue. Right on cue.
Starting point is 02:37:18 And they go to Death Valley opening game at LSU. Yeah. Who do you got coming out of the SEC, making getting it to the playoff. Texas, Georgia. Do you have LSU in there? Nope, I think they'll be close. I think A&M can make it.
Starting point is 02:37:39 What about Oklahoma? God. They lost so much on defense. You know who lost a lot on defense last year? Ohio State. They did. And look what the hell they did. Two years.
Starting point is 02:37:53 Yeah, yeah, it's two years ago. because two years they win at all. They lost the two ends. Right. And now the middle linebacker who went to the Cardinals. And now this year, I mean, they're replacing it with five stars, but I don't care. You lose so much from an intangible standpoint, leadership.
Starting point is 02:38:10 You know better than anybody, like not making calls, hurry up all, and all of a sudden everyone's in position because of that experience. They don't have that, you know, so. They'll have studs there, but to replace R. Bell Reese, Sunny Stiles. Caleb Downs. Caleb Downs. Caleb Downs might be one of the best players
Starting point is 02:38:24 I've ever covered in my life. Caleb Downs is my pick. That kid's gonna be rookie of the year, for sure. I think I said, we did a fendle thing. I think I said, who's a Tampa Bay kid? No, the one that was at Miami and then he just got driving by Tampa Bay.
Starting point is 02:38:39 Bane, yeah, I said Bain. I think he's gonna have an unbelievable year. But the star, you see him coming out of camp. People are referring to him as Ed Reed already. He's out there just checking receivers in camp. There's an account right now. Covering guy one-on-one press. One-on-one against CD.
Starting point is 02:38:54 There's a guy. on Twitter right now who has an account that is pulling these rookies, their preseason games and highlighting them every single snap and you can just sit there and watch it. I was watching it this morning. I'm like, this account is, I don't know why people have done this yet.
Starting point is 02:39:06 Oh my God. And it's no like this is my thought. It's like, here is all of Arvel Reese's snaps from the first preseason game. Wow. And it's like, oh, this is badass. That's cool. But Arvel Reese is like,
Starting point is 02:39:15 we talked about him being a first round pick this year. This time last year, we had no idea. No. We had no idea about him. It's because he was behind Cody Simon, who was a linebacker, third or fourth round to the Cardinals. Isn't that crazy?
Starting point is 02:39:27 Yeah. And now he's, you know, first round. And they're saying he's ahead of Sunny Styles as far as like technique and- Which is crazy. He's also got a better D-Ly-line from like watching the R.V.L. Reese some of that footage, like he's got cats out there. What is it? Burns?
Starting point is 02:39:40 The guy on the other end. Tip-Dill. Set the edge to where even when you're trying to get these outside zone plays and end shut it down. Like from where they're aligned and to where, you know, once you shut it down and you got a guard tackle for releasing up to you, you can just easily put their body in the gap
Starting point is 02:39:56 to where he's got a line of scrimmage in front of them. Which is crazy to think they lose Dexter Lawrence and they still have that. Yeah. That tells you an embarrassment of riches that they haven't up front. Yeah. They've spent so much inventory on that D-line.
Starting point is 02:40:08 They were allowed to let the big fella go and still be what you're describing, especially on the edge. We, um, how long are we going? We've been going for, we've been over two hours. I mean, it's getting, it's getting long. You probably have stuff to do.
Starting point is 02:40:23 My wife, I have to check. We have to rip some packs too. I've got to rip some packs with you. It's going to be a good year of college football. It'll be a great. It's loaded. I mean, everyone's loaded. Oh my God.
Starting point is 02:40:31 You know, that's one thing about college football. It's so cyclical. You know, it's either a year where no one's returning or a year where everyone's returning. Yeah. I think with this NIL, we're seeing more and more guys that are like, like Dante Moore, before an NIL, he would have never stuck around. He's a top five pick. He decides to come back. I mean, there are just so many guys that I think it's going to be awesome year where, who's
Starting point is 02:40:54 stays healthy is going to end up having a year when they make a wrong. The parody, too, that we're getting all around college football. Like the depth of some of these conferences, like Big Ten's going to, I know it's SEC, you give anybody in here to talk to down south. It's SEC has the most depth. I think Big Ten is going to be a lot deeper this year. And even talking to the ACC, it's like, you have Miami who's going to challenge them. It's going to be Clemson.
Starting point is 02:41:12 You got SMU. You got Louisville. Virginia Tech. Who knows if they're going to challenge this first year? ASU, too. I mean, there's, Arizona State. There is more depth there than I think. I think people nationally probably give them credit for.
Starting point is 02:41:27 And you mentioned one earlier with USC and the roster that they're gonna have. This is one where I don't feel like the national pressure that is on Dabo Sweeney or a Dabour down at Alabama. But if USC doesn't make the playoff, you're like Lincoln Riley, in my opinion, is gonna be on the hot seat in a big way. If he doesn't, yeah, he'll be in the A gap.
Starting point is 02:41:47 Lincoln Riley is entering the A gap this year. They don't like the playoffs. I think a lot of those guys that were hired in that same year, they've even been let go and high profile jobs or they're kind of feeling it. Luke Fickle was hired right around that same time at Wisconsin. So yeah, I mean, but it's funny, when you're in the West Coast, you grew up out there, you understand it's incredible how I guess USC is different because of that brand, but
Starting point is 02:42:10 you don't deal with the the scrutiny that the Big Ten and the S. When I say Big Ten, it's much quieter. Like the traditional Big Ten. Yeah, you know, you can kind of blend in a little bit when you're struggling, but I do think SC is ready to, I think they'd be quick. They got a great quarterback. And I think they got this- Number one class in 27 is when they have a bunch of guys in there.
Starting point is 02:42:29 They got a couple young bucks that are showing up early. Linebacker, they said he's like living up to the hype. Yeah, well, yeah, what was he like the number one edge? Yeah, he's supposed to be a beast. He looks like a young Joey Bosa. He looks like an absolute ward-dadi. He's got a Nick Bosa up there. I know.
Starting point is 02:42:45 It can't be 18. Hey, COVID-you-never-you-never-year. He's a grown man. It is wild. We were hit the bud like, question to say which usually is our last one but I would feel awful for the fans if we didn't just talk about Lee Corso for just a second talk to me about your relationship with him did yeah I saw saw that yeah he drove three hours come see you well not three hours well six hours we'll say
Starting point is 02:43:07 whatever we want he drove 18 hours to come see yeah you know what man he I mean he and I mean he and I kind of father's son relationship worked together 29 years and um I don't know if you guys ever met him like just salt to the earth greatest guy treat he treated everybody on game day from, you know, a first year PA to the producer or CP of the show. Everyone was the same. If a person brought their family in, he would go over to him, look him right in the eye, talk to him for 15 minutes, every single person. Just, I'm the one that talks about him because, you know, people associate he and I together, but every single person would talk the same way about him. That's when you kind of know you have a special person. But yeah, I had a chance to see him.
Starting point is 02:43:51 I had a speech down in Orlando and he's like, you know, can I come over? You know, I was like, come to the event. He's like, I don't want to come to the event, but can I come over to the airport and see? I was like, yeah, I said, let me send a car for it. And he's like, no, no, I don't want to. I'm driving.
Starting point is 02:44:03 I'm like, Lee, you're 90. You can talk like this to him. I'm like, Lee, you're 91. You're not driving. He's like, bullshit. I'm driving. And I was like, all right, you know, once he says it, you're not stopping him.
Starting point is 02:44:13 Yeah. So I get there and he, he, I'm walking towards the, the doors where he came out of the FBI. and just, you know, embraced him. He just starts crying in my, in my shoulder. And I'm crying because he's crying. And it's like you can just, the memories start flooding back when you see him, because I don't see him that often.
Starting point is 02:44:39 I saw him last year when we did that last show with him. And he's cognitive thinking, you know, think about your grandparents or whatever. Like his cognitive thinking at 91, he does not miss a beat. It's just he's, you know, he had a stroke and he's got some other stuff that he's dealing with. And so he's obviously dealing with a lot of things. But, man, his eyes are still razor sharp. He's talking about these, like we're talking about the teams. He's talking about the teams.
Starting point is 02:45:04 He's still doing his whole work. Yeah, he's still into it. Man, I just, I, he's my one of the, I'm just so blessed to have sat next to him and just watched him and just learned. I can never be him, but I can learn by watching. watching, probably like you or you when you looked up to somebody that was either a coach or an older player. You just, you don't even have to talk. You just learn. And that's who he was for me. When I was that 26-year-old, I was telling you guys earlier. And yeah, doing great, love him, talk to him as often as I can. And he's always with us in spirit, that's for sure.
Starting point is 02:45:41 How was that, how emotional was that last game, Ohio State, Texas? That was tough, you know. The day before, it was in Columbus where they had gear, the whole thing. started. My first year on the show is when he put that on. That's how long it went. And it was fitting that that was the last place that he would put that headgear on. Ohio State was great about working with us. It was at noon games. He had 100,000 people there, massive game against Texas. But the day before, we had a lunch for him at a local restaurant, about maybe 60 people. A lot of his family was there. Mike Torrico, who worked with him and I on Thursday night football. He came in, Chris Fowler and his wife, Jen. And just a bunch of people there to
Starting point is 02:46:19 celebrate him and what he meant to us and to the sport. So that was super emotional that day. Some people would get up and speak, you know, and whether it was a family member or whoever would get up and talk. Everybody would just say incredible things. And we did a feature. If you guys remember, we did a story on him last year before his last show. And he and I did it together. And I went to the College Football Hall of Fame to do it. And the last clip, we went into this little theater in the college football Hall of Fame. It was just me and him and two cameramen and the producer. And they sat him in the front row and they played this, this video. And it was basically people like, I'm talking right now, looking at a camera just saying, what does Lee
Starting point is 02:47:05 Corso mean to you? And it was maybe 50 or 60 different people. Again, everything from his kids to people they worked with, to former teammates, former players, whoever it was that he coached. and he sat there and I was about four rows back and in theater's dark and you can and I'm kind of to the side watching and he's sitting there watching and you know he's got tears running down his face watching all these nice things being said about him and then the video ended and it was dead quiet it's dark just me and him two camera guys and a producer and I'm like he's crying and I'm I'm like, I'm going to go down there. And they're like, okay.
Starting point is 02:47:48 And I don't know what they're, I don't know if we're still doing the show, like we're doing right now, or are we off there? What are we doing? So I just went down there, just kind of held him. And he, again, he was super emotional. And he's like, you know, it was so, so strange. He goes, it was like I was dead.
Starting point is 02:48:06 And people were talking about me at my funeral. And I said, here's the cool thing. You're alive. And you get to hear the. hear these people tell you how much you mean to them you didn't die to have to hear it so often these people that are in their 90s like this they die and then we all get together and then we all talk about how wonderful they were but i said what's a blessing man is you get to hear that you know and um anyway there was just so much that went on but he is he's one-of-one he's the most unique guy um of all time
Starting point is 02:48:37 and i just how lucky was i from a timing standpoint to to be right next to him that's incredible That is beautiful. Kind of painted a beautiful picture. I have myself tearing up and I say, when you're talking about looking from the side. Yeah, and I didn't know what to do. Kirk put us in the room with him.
Starting point is 02:48:51 I felt so strange. Like I, it was just like, what do I, you know? What is, what's the right move to make right now? Do I give, do I give him time to kind of gather himself or I don't want to bother him? But I also don't want to leave him out to dry. Right. And there's the age aspect like, like,
Starting point is 02:49:09 yeah, he's 90, at that time, 90 years old. Yeah. Yeah. Don't laugh at the job. That's a real thought, right? Yeah. You're like, do I go help them? Yeah, for sure.
Starting point is 02:49:18 But yeah, that's beautiful. That's beautiful. BLQ. Before the BLQ, I do have, I do have one. I just want to put, we want to pitch you an idea. Oh, that you can take full credit for as the face of college football. There are only eight teams in the new PAC 12.
Starting point is 02:49:33 Washington State, Oregon State, Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah State, Utah State, Colorado State, and Texas State. What do you think about rebranding them on the national level from the PAC 12 to the state eight? State eight. The state eight. Love it. You start pushing that on your show on Saturdays. We'll come in behind the next week. You guys should have the commissioner. State PAC. State PAC. State PAC. State PAC. You don't even. S.T. 8. State 8. State. State. State. What was your name? What do you want to go with? State eight. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:50:09 I like that. The state aid is actually, you know what? That's the old big aid in him coming out. Yeah, yeah. State Pack. Why do you guys have the commissioner of that conference on and talk to?
Starting point is 02:50:21 Tell about Josh Pate. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. State. Everybody's a state. We should go with that. State pack.
Starting point is 02:50:31 A little, yeah. It's a little play on words. They're looking for anything to create a little bit of mojo anyway. Yeah. A little bit of motion. Yeah. Got to have it.
Starting point is 02:50:38 Yeah. I'm down. I like it. You can have that one. Yeah. That's yours. Okay, you can have that one. I may take your state eight instead.
Starting point is 02:50:45 Yeah, state eight. Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, Bud Light question. What is this? Is this one word answers? No. This is probably the most important question you'll be asked.
Starting point is 02:50:53 That's why we wittle you down for two and a half hours to really get you to the nuts and bolts of your foundation. We know anybody would do anything for an ice cold Bud Light. Yeah. What's something that Kirk Herb Street
Starting point is 02:51:03 would do anything for? Can't say family. And if you love examples of what other people have said, we will give them to you. as I look here on this bus as you say that if we had a grill in the back with burgers I'm a big hamburger in the summer kind of guy if we had it was hot like it is today and we had a great charcoal not a gas but a charcoal or a green egg grill and we were flipping like burgers and we were all bullshit about college football and it was hot we had some good sides and we had burgers put a little cheese on them give me that damn but a lot are you fucking serious right now. That would be perfect. A charcoal burger. Cheese Perfect. A charcoal. You guys like charcoal burgl?
Starting point is 02:51:44 See? The boys like it. The boys back there. Boys are looking out. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Yes. God. That sounds great. I mean, you can't ask for a better answer. Well done. Didn't even ask for a reference piece either. No. So guys said they want to go to space, but you want just a good burger. Old school. You want a Midwest. Yeah. That's the middle. Talking college ball. Yeah. The game's got to be on. Everyone's true bias coming out. Yes. Everyone's pretend to not be.
Starting point is 02:52:11 That's the best part about my job. We do game day and we go on the bus. Hopefully you guys are around. You guys after your Friday show, are you sticking on Saturday? That week one, we will be at LSU Clemson. Are you gonna go for the game? Yes. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 02:52:24 You gotta come to my bus and we got games on. We're eating like I'm described. That's the best, and we're all throwing shit, talking shit to each other about games. Whoever we picked, if that team's winning, we're like talking, I mean, we're fans, just like you guys all. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 02:52:38 Well, yeah, you guys got to come over. Count us in. We'll make time, we'll make time. Yeah, you guys should do that. Peter will be there. Is there, is there? Peter will be there. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 02:52:45 By the, Peter's found his home. How chill is he, by the way? He figured it out, man. He was in the pocket. Good boy. That's a great boy. That's a great boy. Is there a team in the last like five, ten years that you've like stuck your neck out for
Starting point is 02:52:57 talking about them and they just let you down? I mean, it happens. Where when you're throwing food at the TV, like mother. It happens every year, right? I mean, it's, it's, it's funny. you make picks and like the only bias we ever have is whoever you pick that Saturday. You guys ever get that? Like are you making picks on Friday?
Starting point is 02:53:17 Oh yeah. You put the parlay together and you look at seven legs and you're like, oh my God. I'm about to unlock something here. And you think like if I have any bias, it's whoever I pick that week I want to win. Like because I don't want to deal with the bullshit on on X. So it's like. So I'm just like.
Starting point is 02:53:33 You want to silence the noise. Please, please win. Because honestly you don't really care. But, I mean, when you make the pick, you want it to happen. But I don't know. Because you're a Nebraska guy. I broke in and Nebraska was the team. And like we talked about 96, 97, Kansas State started to come around.
Starting point is 02:53:51 And I kept riding Nebraska. And Nebraska played it at Kansas State. And I picked Nebraska right in front of the Kansas State fans. And their fans are awesome. They're passionate. And they came to the set afterwards, like talking. And they were getting aggressive. And it was like, that's what I learned, wow, like these picks.
Starting point is 02:54:13 People take these picks really seriously. Yeah. You know, have you felt that yet? Oh yeah. You felt like, oh, buddy. They take them so personally. Like if you make a pick and you're wrong, like, they, it's like you walked into their kitchen and smacked them across the face.
Starting point is 02:54:29 Yeah. Or even make a list and they're not on it. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, it's like, honestly, it's not that deep. Yeah. It's really not. You just look at the film, you just look at it,
Starting point is 02:54:38 you throw something out. Yeah, and if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. Yeah. But to your answer, your question, it happens every Saturday, you know. People get worked up and they're like, I told you, you son of a bitch, I've always hated you.
Starting point is 02:54:51 It's like, all right, all right, man. Peter almost left here, like that language. You're good? Where's the enemy? You solid, dad? Good boy. That's a good boy. Hey, we appreciate you come on the show.
Starting point is 02:55:03 Absolutely, man. This has been an awesome time. to wrap us. The start of an annual tradition. Yeah, man. The start of an annual tradition. We'll do it next. You can be your elite corso.
Starting point is 02:55:12 Yeah. We'll look up to you forever. Hopefully I go to 91. Yeah, yeah. When you're crying, we'll back, should we pick them up? Yeah. We need help. Up the stairs.
