Bussin' With The Boys - Randall Cobb Doesn't Want His Kids To Play Football + His Future In The NFL
Episode Date: June 11, 2024Recorded: May 13th 2024 | In this weeks intro, the boys have to address the latest on the Beer Games. There has been a lot of news and new updates surrounding everything Beer Games related, the guys f...elt the need to touch on some of those whispers. Following the intro the buys are joined by NFL Wide Receiver, Randall Cobb. The boys have been trying to get Randall on the podcast for a while now and were finally able to make it happen. The guys dive right into it and start talking about Randall’s career and all of the different places he has been able to play. Randall talks about how he felt when Green Bay didn’t want to resign him, playing for Houston and how bad it was, getting traded back to Green Bay and finally last season playing for the Jets. Being that Randall and Aaron Rodgers are super close, he is able to give us the inside scoop on why Aaron decided to leave Green Bay, how Aaron plays the game at such a high level and whether or not he could have made it back last season if the Jets made the playoffs. Randall touches on at the end of the podcast how the conversation really does feel like a locker room vibe and hopefully you guys can feel that as you’re listening. Happy Tuesday and enjoy. Hey guys, it's us
The Jonas Brothers.
I'm Joe.
I'm Kevin.
And I'm Nick.
And guess what?
We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
But, you know, tired and sick.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Just listen.
We don't care where you hear it.
Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Why are we all so obsessed with romance?
On the Radio 831 podcast, join us, Sanjana Basker and Tyler McCall, as we unpack all the
trending tropes, fuzzy adaptations, book talk drama, and celebrity love stories with hot takes
and sharp guests.
Each episode digs into what these stories reveal about desire, fantasy, identity, and how
we love now.
Listen to the Radio 831 podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
Be like a busing with boys

Gonna tell us
What you do
Just drinking with the fella
Bussin with the boys
Bro
Yeah,
Bives are up
Bives are up
Just like you're 10, they throw different things at you
Every day
You just keep going forward
Ladies and gentlemen, today it is Monday, June 10th, when you're
listening to this, it is probably 605 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11th, I want you to know something
before I talk to you about the beautiful Chevy Silverado, regardless of the outside noise
and what you possibly hear out there on the bird, on the different social apps, on this
bus. We are united. We are happy. We have our vibes up. And we know at the end of day,
what this bus was built on didn't come from names. It came from two boys hanging out, getting
on a mic and having a small little dream behind a warehouse while we're stealing power from an RV
RV company. One thing we never steal from the Chevy Silverado. The Chevy Silverado.
Filled with grit determination. This is a Chevy truck podcast, the greatest trucks ever built
and our good friends at Chevrolet have been a big part of the bus and family and even our own
personal lives. You guys know your boy rocks is ER too. The Chevy Silverado, long time partner,
a truck with commanding an unstoppable grit, like I already said, legendary capability and
dependability as well.
Find out for yourself, like so many of the boys,
head to Chevy.com to check out the Chevy truck grit
and build your own Silverado for do-it-yourself projects
to road trips, off-road adventures, tailgates.
Whatever your thing is, it all starts with a Chevy truck.
Obviously, we got to talk about the first things first.
We'll start with the weekend.
Yeah, talk about the weekend.
Well, I think we got to talk about the beer games.
We talk about the beer games.
We got to let everybody know.
We got to keep everybody in the know.
The beer games, championships of the world for bust with the boys is still happening.
100% still happening.
Yes, it is still happening.
June 25th.
I hesitant to say the number because I've had some messups in my past.
June 24th and 25th, the competition itself will take place June 25th.
Yeah.
And look, the boys are moving forward with it.
We just got to call this morning.
The Barstool, the crew, they're removing production support and support and resources for the boys for the beer games.
But we, hey, onward and upward.
Right.
We deal with, we've been dealing with bad beats all year long.
Yeah.
All year long.
2024 has been us in the corner of the ring taking some body shots we put our gloves down a little bit we take a couple in the chin but guess what we're doing yeah we're still fucking standing willie yes whatever it takes the boys we're still doing the beer game championships of the world and I'm still stoked yeah I say that so hesitantly like I'm still fired up because what we started with the beginning of this podcast is this it's not about money it's not about having cameras in our face 24 7 this brand sometimes this brand this brand is
has been built on the boys hanging out,
getting after it,
and having a place where everybody can come to turn off
the stress from business or work or family,
kids, uncles, nieces, nephews, sicknesses,
all those things.
You come hang out with us because we're having a good time.
And no matter what,
one of the core values of us with the boys
is going to be, have a good time.
So, Beer Games Championship of the world
is what we thought it was going to be in February of this year.
Now we shot for the stars.
We shop for the stars.
And you know what, for a moment, brother.
Shoot for the stars laying in the moon.
Something like that.
For a moment, we almost touched those stars because we had commit after commitment.
We had guys come in that said, we're down to do this.
Yeah.
We had truly beer Olympics, beer game championship of the world locked up March 10th.
March 10th of 20.
The most planning we've ever done in our lives.
In our lives.
And I've been, I'm married.
Yeah.
And even for my wedding, I didn't plan this much.
I kind of just was told where to go.
Right.
showed up right had a couple a couple of twisted teas and ripped it ripped it yeah and so listen
is this what we thought it was going to be no but you have two choices boys when you're backed
into a corner you could sit there and pout moan cry take a nap laying in your bed not want to get
up or a bunch of ice cream and put it on your tummy and eat it until your stomach hurts more than
your heart you could do that or you could stand the fuck up understand that at the end of the
It's about the boys doing what the boys want
and having a good time and bringing smiles and laughs to the viewer
who chooses to sit with us every single week with our content
and constantly throw punches and waiting to knowing
you're going to get that knockout shot soon.
All you have to do is stay up, keep your cardio going,
and keep throwing those boats.
Pick up a beer and start chugging.
That's all you got to deal.
Oh, you're sad because Travis Kelsey dipped?
Good.
Pick up a beer and start chugging.
Kurt Kreisner said he's hard in in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Aria during his event that he asked to go to and now he's out.
Good.
Pick up a beer and start chugging.
This thing is about the boys.
It's about the...
I was going to do it like five more times.
I was going to do them all.
Well, where I would have gotten a little like you started rattling off all the details of Byrd, I was like, oh, no, Bert's going to just feel sad for himself once again.
Because Bert does feel bad.
At the day, every individual person who has backed out, they have had their reasonings for it.
And I think I was telling you this earlier because it's like frustrating, right?
But I think what makes me so mad about it all is I know that I've been that guy before.
And it's like now that I have some, we have more experience working with the athletes, the celebs of the world and knowing how fickle we can be,
I just think back at all the times that I've fucking done that to my boys or to my friends and I hate myself for it because I know how much this has affected us when trying to put on this awesome event that we were just trying to build on from.
You had the first year
It was just the old lime
And they just wanted to have a beer Olympics
To last year we had an amazing one
And it was like
Yo more people want to do this
How do we make this bigger and better
We go out to Vegas
We try to pour in a bunch of production
And we built it around
Some of the key teams
That we had already
We've already mentioned
And unfortunately they've dropped out
We were wanting to do a series about this
We want to do a lot of different things
Jelly Roll was on the fence
Last week
It was you know
We've had a lot of different things
A bar still they
Our production, the production support gets pulled.
It doesn't matter if it gets all the way to us in your basement or the backyard.
And we just have some cameras again.
Like we're going to push forward.
We're going to lean into the storm.
And we're fucking throwing the beer games championships of the world.
Yeah.
No matter how we get it done.
You boys ready?
Hell yeah.
It doesn't matter.
Hey, we might have just our iPhone cameras, boys.
And we'll edit this shit together.
Hell yeah.
Pick up a beer and start chugging.
That's all you're going to do.
Pick up a beer and start chugging.
So yeah, is it as good as it can be?
No.
Does it mean that it's over?
Never.
Never.
That's right.
We're going to keep fighting, boys.
We're stoked that you guys are going to be a part of it as much as you are.
Hell, some of you fans might get a call.
Yeah.
I've got a lot of fucking DMs from fans and they want to come in.
Hey, throw our hat in the ring.
We'll save beer Olympics.
You guys might get a fucking call.
Yeah.
So we might just have to call our boys that we've drank with since high school in college.
I'm going to make it.
I'm going to make it.
Cody January.
Called my high school boys.
You guys want in?
Make a trip.
Make a fucking trip.
Yeah.
They're already coming.
You know what?
Should we do this?
A free?
This is a free once.
This is an opportunity for the part of my take guys because they don't want to back out on us because
they love us.
They're our boys.
They don't want to go, but they're going to go because they feel like they have to back
the boys.
I think we give them an out right now.
We want you guys to go.
Big Cat, PFT, that whole crew is going out there.
We want pardon my take to go.
But we want you guys to want to go.
don't want to go seriously.
This is a,
this is,
I think we're being genuine about this.
Hey,
if you guys don't want to go,
please don't go.
Just because we want people
who want to be there.
That's what makes the content good.
And we just want to,
we want to throw back day with the boys.
And if you guys don't want to be part of that,
I promise.
I know you guys have other shit that goes on.
We have the dozen tournament the week before.
I think some people are traveling.
They're trying to make it work.
You're bending every which way.
I promise you,
it is okay.
You guys do not have to go.
Nothing will be held.
against you. Nothing. We would rather have people be there that truly want to be there
than guys that feel like they're doing us a favor. There's no harm, no foul. Listen, production
was pulled, all that stuff. It is what it is. What do you do when adversity strikes? Yeah.
That's how we're approaching this thing. If you guys want to be a part of it, we would love to have you.
If you, any part of you does not and is not 100% bought into having a good time with the boys.
Right. Feel free. Please just know it makes everything better. It does. Yeah, makes everybody's life better.
are more important than obligations.
Amen.
So yeah, that's our, I think that's a good, that's a good proposal.
Yeah.
Because I want the boys to be happy.
I don't want any built up.
I don't want anything built up.
This is a stressful enough business.
Right.
And it's frustrating of things that we've done in the past.
It's like there will be zero animosity about this.
Yeah, because you really don't, in that world, we don't have a laid to stand up.
Yeah.
It is just kind of what it is.
You just, we made a couple of mistakes.
And now we're saying, listen, we see where this is gone in people's eyes.
Yeah.
We're still going to do it and have a great time.
If you don't want to be a part of it, that's totally fine.
Right, right.
That is totally fine.
No harm, no foul.
Just the core fundamentals of being for the boys.
That's it.
Run the ball.
We're just getting back to run a football.
Play action pass.
Run the football.
Third and manageable.
That's what you want.
Yeah.
We want to win this game 12 to 9.
I don't want a touchdown scored.
I just want a bunch of threes and hard hitting defense all the time.
When you, me, Big Cat, were sitting there watching the Bears last season,
and you guys talked about how defense, like literally made you go through puberty as a kid.
That's what beer Olympies is going to be.
Yeah.
And to quote, great Gary Vee, you want to fucking win in life, fall in love of losing because most people are scared of it.
We're taking these.
We'll swing for the fucking fences.
No doubt.
And we're going to miss.
Yes.
Because there's a thousand people out there.
I would say the majority would probably say not worth doing.
Right.
Hey, give up.
Yep.
It's done.
No.
Because at the end of the day, we're here to have a good fucking time.
We're here to have a good time.
That's all I had.
that's not how the line goes
listen
I feel a whole lot better talking about it
yeah I do too
is it's it sucked
the last
what
five hours
really the last
72 hours
I mean it's been a bit
of a blood bath on the bird
and well yeah
the bird stuff
was a little more fun
than yeah
you know as of right now
it's still on
don't do that
we've already had that
conversation
it's still on
as of right now
the beer game is
100% on
it is
as of right now
as of right now we are 100% all in yeah but when you understand when you do the as of right now
it doesn't feel 100% just say the beer olympics is 100% on the beer Olympics is 100% on as of right now
that is that's not what you do that would be a fun clip for the internet it'll be like all the boys
are still confused about the clip thing let me tell you something about the clip thing
when you say that's a good clip we're both thinking that's a good clip we're both thinking that
That's a good clip. I'm sure everybody but Mitch resonated with them. That'll be the clip we're
going to do right there. Yeah, but don't you like saying? Crazy. Crazy shot, like, let the,
let the tier ones know just like, it's going to be a fun clip to have fun with them. Yeah, but they'll
know when they see the clip. Oh, that's a fun clip. Yeah. Well, they'll know even more if anybody
gets a little confused because there's people like, you don't know who to believe anymore.
Mitch is so mad at me for that comment. It was a joke, Mitch. It was a joke. People back,
you can't take real serious because who knows what's serious anymore. The tier ones who follow it all
the time. Yes, they are involved, but you love getting some context. Sometimes your context
comes from listening to Bus and The Boys. That's why you should be subscribed and rating five stars.
By the way, Sherman and I, we got to have Sherm's first week. He got to lose you all you're talking.
He got to make a nice splash on the scene as a bus and employee with his. Yeah, he got fired.
Yeah. He had a fun. You're on your way out. We'll say that. Yeah. Hey, that was a good troll by you.
A good opportunity taken. Yeah, I mean, I've lobbed it.
to you a couple times.
That one hit.
Sometimes I see your trolls and I'm like, look,
Sheram, I'm not going to play into this.
I'm not going to talk about how I'm going to paralyze some father for his daughter running
two miles, like meeting me in the A gap all the time.
But yeah, you had a great troll.
I think I talked about Laundry Day, which I did, by the way.
And it's set up for me to look like just an insane boss figure to you.
Oh, yeah.
By telling you to stay in your lane.
And people were outraged way more than I.
I thought people just understood that we're always usually having a good time on the internet.
But no, people had some comments.
Like, oh, this is the Dave Portnoy Effect.
This is management trickling down.
Everything's falling apart.
Will's finally losing it.
He's imploding.
He's shitting on his employees.
Who haven't even been there for a day.
You might have to stay there from the comments.
Do what?
You might have to stay here from the comments.
You got to keep up so you know what the next move is.
That's what led me to do the link with the soft helmet.
Like go, hit this link to apply.
We're letting go.
We're letting him go.
as immediately we're looking for somebody new
hit this link the link goes to a soft
tell me that you can purchase
well the best part too
I'm so new that family members
were legitimately texting me and were like
what's going on
is everything okay
I'd a couple guys be like
hey did he really ask that to you
I'm just like I mean it's all a joke
well tell them about my text the night before
it
let's read it
that did
it was when I texted you
Oh, and I was like...
You thought Will was serious?
I mean, there's a lot going on.
Oh, yeah, that'd have been...
I would have legitimately had to call Will, like, what do you know?
You're all right?
I would have gone to his house to be truly fired Shirm for that.
We've been texting a little bit, Shirm.
We have.
Remind me.
It was when I was like, oh, gosh, it was Saturday night.
And I was like, hey, is everything okay?
Like, how'd the talk with Taylor go?
Oh, yeah.
He said, are we actually on life support for beer games, or is this a bit?
I said
Like did you not listen to the voice text in the group chat yesterday
And he goes I did
I completely forgot
I'm back in please invite Angel Reese
Which I think would be a great invite
Mix it up a little bit
I don't know who that is
Angel Reese
Yeah
LSU girl
Kailin Clark's like rival
Oh shit
That's what goes said
I'm moving
I'm getting people here too
Yes
Yeah
I remember her
yeah i'll legit when you said that name i thought it was a porn star
right no that's fair i mean that's yeah yeah that
it's not like it's not like it's not like angel reese yeah yeah you're not sitting here
expected to know about like the wmba and yeah women's basketball
for sure for sure it is the hot new thing that the uh which is wild that katelyn clark's
not a part of the olympics right i didn't know that there was a it's ridiculous rg3
actually had a good tweet about that how it's like how much it's
It helps women's basketball in the Olympics,
and the only person it hurts by going to the Olympics,
by Caitlin Clark going to the Olympics, is Caitlin Clark.
Because she's not with her team and all that.
Right.
And the only person, the only benefit you get out of it
for not having it,
the one person who is benefiting is Caitlin,
because everybody's being as loud as they are about it.
Yeah.
Yeah, that is wild.
She is really taking that sport by storm right now.
She really is, man.
It's like I follow it just because I only follow it on,
the timeline because it's so talked about it's not like i'm watching the games or anything else it
kind of it kind of makes me want to watch the games because of how outrage people seem to be about
uh you all the uh what do we look at they woke a monster yeah you right right but i guess the way
everybody's been towards katelyn clark like the way she's getting fouled at her not getting invited
to the olympics like it's it's i mean it is a conversation and shout out women's basketball
getting that type of media hype because this is kind of what you need big time yeah you need
like big time for the sport you need controversial like racial topics that get talked about like hating on
somebody the rivalries between herself and angel reese and whoever the gal is that she fouled and
was like i'm not commenting on katelyn clark like you like i again i do not consume the sport but it's like
as a viewer it makes me more inclined because it's entertaining yeah it's like that w w e storyline writing
that is exactly that's just like why is this such a big deal and then you kind of get intrigued like
oh, apparently this, this Caitlin Clark girl or the WNBA, this is happening right.
Let's see how they do.
Or it's like people who want to see the WNBA or the Olympics team fail now because they didn't get
Kaylon Clark because I'm sure there are those people out there.
They're going to be wanting to kind of tune in.
Let's see how they do without Caitlin Clark.
And it's going to be like, Dad, this is your first time watching women's basketball.
Why do you care so much?
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
No, this is like drives all that.
It's a perfect storm because it is all over my timeline anytime I'm going on.
I'm not seeking it out.
It's literally just there for me to consume.
Yeah.
It's all.
good stuff man should we do uh what do we have before our shout out no free shot oh the boy de wall
he retired over the weekend yeah he was kind of what's your guy yeah that's my boy he was kind of
alluding to the fact that i think the giants were anticipating him retiring and they were going
to get a decision before minicamp which they did um it's definitely like it's like you know you sit back
you see football players you like you know that's one of the best tight ends why are you retiring like
yeah you got injured a little bit last year but i'm sure you're feeling fresh we only think about
the athlete. I want you out to perform
but he seemed like he's found a
passion for music
and it seems like his
his fire is just not there to play anymore
which is like I mean you know how it is once you get on the
other side of wanting to go
24-7 be about the fucking football life
you have to be all in when you're doing it
if that's taking from you and you have something else that you're
into and want to do it's like you don't need to
fucking continue to do it just because it what makes
a shit load more money he's made a lot of money
yeah from his side too it's like
what else does he have to prove?
Right.
Like he had all the adversity did early in his career,
had to go in and out of rehabs,
all that type of stuff,
and then comes out the other side,
becomes a top three tied end in the league.
Right, right.
It's paid all over the place,
truly rewrites his story
from a rock bottom situation
and is now, like you said,
found a passion in music.
Yeah.
Able to kind of go,
that'd just be on the other side,
but as a fan viewing it,
you're like, bro, come on, stay forever.
Yeah, why?
Oh, you're going to go do this?
Because the crazy thing is,
once you're actually out,
you're like, man,
I was stressed about shit
that I had no
business being stressed about. Right. And it's just, it's crazy how you're able to zoom out and all that.
And he gave a good perspective in his video too. He's like from where I was at, like he could have
died, should have died, right? He was OD. He was found in his car. And he's like the fact that the
NFL, Baltimore still took a shot on me. The Raiders took a shot on me. Giants are taking a shot on me.
Like the fact that I've kind of came out through all that, it's given me so much. So he seems to have like
a good perspective. I just hope the boy feels good about his decision. And it's like, enjoy the other
side, bro. Because there's a lot, there's a lot, there's a lot of a green grass on the other side.
Like, once you fully, you know, remove the identity of, like, wanting to be an NFL player,
because we all have that forever. As long as he feels fulfilled, what it sounds like he did in
that, uh, that little video he made. That's like, yeah, dude, if you're completely happy
with the way things went and you're able to be like, I'm good turning this chapter.
If you can check those boxes, the next phase of life is awesome. Yeah, 100%. It's all time.
live show tomorrow
yeah we probably should talk about that earlier actually boys
tomorrow
Zanis Nashville Tennessee
tomorrow being Wednesday
June 12th

maybe your own twisted question,
those types of things.
We're doing trivia again?
Probably.
Probably do some trivia as well.
It's a glorified podcast.
We're hanging out.
Having a good time and it's interactive.
I might walk around with two microphones and just rapid fire question answers.
You ask a question, first thing comes to your head.
We might just do random shit.
Just crowd work.
Yeah.
Whatever we want.
And it's going to be a good time.
Pick up a beer and start chugging.
No question.
The new mantra.
Yeah.
So we'll see you guys tomorrow.

Just repeated the last thing you said, like a mindless sheep.
No.

Listen.
It's dropping at six in the morning.
Right, Mitch?
Right.

What's your take on the Celtics, man?
Got some good boys out there, man.
They're doing well.
They're doing well.
Seems like they're going to coast into maybe a sweep in the finals.
I've been watched a minute of it.
I saw Dave hit a four-legged on the Celtics last night.
Is Paul Pierce still on the Celtics?
Yep.
And Kyrie.
There we go.
Come on, man.
Yeah.
Well, Kyrie's on the other team.
But they're playing.
Yeah.
They're both from the courts.
at the same time.
And is a, uh, uh, Joe, Jokic.
Jokic, Jokic, right?
He plays for the Nuggets.
Isn't there a V in there?
Jokovic?
He's not, Tennis.
Oh, I thought the dude who had all that, I thought the dude had all the ice on him.
He's not playing.
Like he's just not.
What you think it's Donchich?
Yeah.
Who, the, the big white motherfucker that had the ice.
The guy that had all the ice wrapped on him and you're like, this is me after a game.
Oh, that's Luca.
That's Luca.
Yeah, Luca.
What's his last name?
Luca Donchich.
Donchich.
That's what I was trying to say.
That's how you pronounce.
Yeah, I thought you meant like ice like a necklace.
I was like, my fault.
Yeah, yeah, my fault.
It's D-O-N-C-I-C-C-R-D-T-E-K.
Donchich.
Yeah, Dunkic.
Donchich.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
What's his deal?
He's still in.
Yeah.
The boy walking like he ain't all right.
He's walking like,
Hey, he's walking like your boy getting up out of a chair.
Like his back up.
He's the definition of a bad body baller.
He's the definition of a bad body baller.
Yeah, but I'm saying the way he's walking.
You can tell he's hurt.
Well, he's the entire team right now.
I mean, the boy's putting up numbies.
Got to respect that.
He's going to.
The boy's putting up numbies?
He really is.
He did a triple double last night.
Yeah, he's going off, right?
That's good.
He's fighting his ass off out there.
As you want, dude, don't kick is getting after it, man.
And I don't care.
You know what, dude?
What's the score of the thing right now?
3-0.
2-0?
He's about to get swept.
Mavs and 7.
There you go.
There you go.
Remember that.
heavy for the july merch it's out there hey by the way all the dads out there watching happy
father's day this week big weekend for the fathers big weekend this weekend this weekend yeah it is right
yeah it's this sunday oh we got that pot on sunday yeah as of right now as of right now as of right now
we do it as of right now we do it as of right now I'm folding on board that call in a pot as a friday or
proud Friday as a Friday as a night as a day as a day as a day as a day as that actually
As of right now.
That afternoon.
Yeah.
If they both happen, that'd be solid.
Yeah.
Yeah.
As of right now, though, they're still happening.
Yep.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Father's Day, guys, have a good one.
Yeah.
How do you, there's kind of two ways you go about Father's Day.
You basically fuck off for the entire day.
I know.
And you're like, listen, I'm going to take a day all to myself.
I'm going to get better at NCAA 14 and get ready for the game to come out.
Or you, no, let's go to the zoo.
Let me take the kids.
I feel like it's like two dramatic things.
So I think this is what, this is what my approach is going to be.
I've thought about this a little.
All right.
On Sunday, be ready for Father's Day, like, hey, let's do the family stuff.
Like, let's be together.
But I want my treat to be when College Football 25 comes out.
I need a full day of just immersing myself in the video game.
Oh, you're trying to roll back.
I'm trying to roll it back.
Yeah, you want to roll it back.
By buying in heavy.
You're taking it out now.
Yeah.
And you're going to roll it back.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I think that's the move I'm going to try to go with this show.
Comes out in five weeks, yeah?
Yeah.
That's a long wait for a rollback.
Because if Father's Day is a good chit to have.
have you keep that thing in your back pocket anytime you pull that thing out it's nice yeah yeah yeah yeah so
that's your plan that's what i'm thinking about doing as of right now that's my plan let's say college
football 25's off the table like there doesn't even exist it's not coming out how would you approach
this father's day as well will william earl compton the third got to do a coffee shop okay alone no i'm good
the fan yeah i'm good with the fan but i if whether i have something set up i'm gonna need my hours
of solitude you yeah you want a good like if i'm like hey i want you want a half day like hey i want
right there we want a early morning 12 oh11 hits guys guys yeah yeah yes chris angel you're out of there
yeah yeah like it's like hey i'm gonna go watch planet of the apes you're gonna do whatever you
just go yeah i'm gonna go on netflix and i'm gonna scroll for three hours that's what i'm gonna do
yeah even if i just watch every i'm gonna do i just watch every eights you're gonna do
watch every trailer right you doing bedtime no no no no do in bath time we'll say it's bath night no
right because it's past 12 oh yeah yeah yeah it's like yeah that's a great mix yeah i think that's a good mix
i've had it both ways because i remember that one year you me dennis couple of the boys we went to
that uh shooting place tail and set that all up yeah yeah and that was like my first or second my probably
my second father's there because the first one is definitely like a big deal and then i've done it before too
It's like, no, honey, just a normal day.
I want to be around the family.
But I like the half and half.
I like that move.
Yeah.
Might have to.
Game of risk.
Exactly.
2 p.m. game of risk this Sunday.
I like that.
You do?
I do.
I think all the boys could pull that off.
Probably.
I think it depends on our guest, potentially.
Because as of right now, we're doing a podcast.
As of right now, as of right now, it's happening.
All right.
I like that.
I like that, dude.
Let's hit Shoutout No Free Shadow and then let's get the fuck out of here.

shout at no free shout of Mitch quick fast to the points taking notes um my shout on every
shout at this weekend I had a little uh little kickback in my house this weekend I had oh
G, G came by, Sherim came by, Coup came guy, I hit up Jack, but he was busy, he was doing something else.
And before, before everybody came over, me and two of my other roommates, we went and hit a workout.
I also saw G there, which was wild.
I took a Tuesday, popped out of the bathroom, and there he was.
But my shout, I know if he shot out of this week, goes to getting just a quick little workout on the weekend, like a Saturday,
morning and then just kind of doing whatever you want the rest of the day knowing and like feeling
good like I got that work at it this morning I'm I can I can treat myself I can do whatever I can have an
extra couple beers I can eat extra shitty food like just it's in that just a little thing in your
head like I deserve this today yeah the excuses are like yeah that's totally fine yeah I worked out
this morning I'm fine 15 minutes I was out there I was there for an hour hit the stairmaster
I was just saying buys and tries yeah yeah yeah
A couple things.
One, love the shout-out.
Two, love the use of kickback.
That's really good.
And three, you had a kickback and didn't text me to Orwell?
I mean...
I don't care.
I don't think Will.
I don't know if Will would have responded.
But...
I would have responded.
I would have had fun with it.
I would have been grinning.
NBA, how can I respond to him?
Oh, yeah.
Coupa.
Coup came in those sleeves?
Coupe showed up straight from the gym had his pump shirt on.
That sleeper build was out in full effect.
And some of my friends are, yo, who's?
Oh, no shit.
Who's Big man over here?
I'm like, oh, that's cool.
Big man.
Jack, what you got, bro?
While this photo's pulling up, my shout-out goes to AAA.
If you have a AAA membership.
Yes, sir.
You don't ever think you need a AAA membership until you desperately need one.
I found out the axle on my car snapped this weekend,
and I about got thrown off the road in my car.
It was one of the scariest moments I've had driving a vehicle.
I was just going normal, about 35 miles an hour,
and then out of nowhere, it was like someone had taken the wheel
and shoved it right.
And I lost.
So I had to get my car towed, but thank God that AAA membership I have.
This good old boy got out to my house in like 40 minutes,
put it up on there, got it towed out.
It was just, it alleviated a lot of stress because I was like, I don't know how, or if my car will survive because I drive an 04-4 runner.
And it is on its way out.
It's 280,000 miles.
So he took good care of it.
He was there in like 30 minutes, which that's kind of like the scary thing with AAA.
You never know if it's going to take like three hours.
And luckily I was at my house.
I was able to get my car back there.
But yeah, shout out to AAA and the good people who are just cruising around waiting for someone.
needs a little bit of help. Thank you.
Nice, Bob.
Shirm.
He said thank you.
Yeah, you did.
It's actually kind of wild.
Mine's in the same bin.
Yeah, tow companies.
Shout out, every shout out, tow companies.
Usually the villain.
Most people hate tow companies.
You get towed.
You're pissed off.
You're paying like $400.
But when you need the tow company for your benefit,
it's the best thing ever.
Abandoned vehicle parked on the street in front of our house.
But a little bit is in our yard.
so we have the right to call in the tow company for them to come pull it.
So gave them a call.
They were there in like 30 minutes.
It was awesome.
Abandoned card, gone.
All right. Jeezy.
My shot on no free shot.
I was going to go to three guys that play in the PLL that rocked our merch this weekend,
all over ESPN, all over their platforms.
They even tagged us.
Josh Byrne, Jeff T, Jules Hennonberg.
Appreciate you guys.
Season just started.
Tune in.
Yeah, shout out those guys.
Shout out the laxas.
Dude, that's awesome.
Always the best part of yours at Michigan.
Do you want to go?
Sure.
Shout out, no free shout out.
The smell of bacon.
Yeah, that's solid.
That's a good one.
Everyone knows.
Everyone knows that smell.
Whether you're coming fresh in the house and you just hit you in the mouth,
you're waking up to it or you're creating it yourself.
You know the morning wake up to?
You smell pancakes.
Pancakes and bacon.
Wake up as a kid.
Yeah.
You knew it was going to be a great day.
You knew what time it was, bro.
Probably hit the pool that day, too.
Had to hit the pool after that.
And the sun always seems to be shining when the snow bacon's happening.
You're not going to have bacon on a cloudy day.
Yeah.
You want to, but as soon as you put the bacon on the pan, clouds part.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's no big deal.
My shout, no free shout out goes to passing down knowledge to your child.
This weekend, my daughter was showing me things.
And she was like, for whatever reason, drawing S's.
Like, as funny as she could.
So I put her on game.
I put her on the middle school S.
The three lines up,
three lines down,
diagonal diagonal,
connect it,
a couple of Vs.
Showed it to her one time she hit it.
I thought to myself,
do that again.
Took a little video of it.
Legacy.
It was a proud-ass little moment
because that is,
every kid ever had that on their binder
or some sort of notepad
at some point in their life.
Yeah.
And anytime you see it,
you're kind of just like,
oh shit.
Like as you get older too,
because you don't see it as much as you did.
And you see people decorating around it too.
Yeah.
And you can do that.
You can do that.
And there's one guy that comes out of nowhere,
does like the curved version.
You're like,
that's dope.
But then you always come back to old faithful.
Yeah.
So the,
the skid S.
That's what I'll call it.
I'm a big fan of the skid S.
And my daughter now knows it.
And she's drawing it fucking everywhere.
Yeah.
She's about to.
The cool S.
The cool S?
Oh, okay.
I mean,
that's a working title.
As of right now,
that's the name of the,
that's the name of the ass
And as of right now
I think we're gonna be transitioning
into the Randall Cobb episode
which you guys are going to
fucking love
Yeah
This is a good old
I mean this is
We say it every week
This is a good old fashioned
Lockhart
It makes you know
I did feel kind of warm
Like butterflies in my stomach
As we were going
Yeah
Because it's been a stressful morning
But then once you realize
You always gonna be aight
Always gonna be I
You get on the bus
You have a good time
Doesn't matter if we're back
In the gravel parking lot
With a generator bro
Fuck it dude
And a phone for a hot spot
Wi-Fi
No question
We're gonna be all right
Always gonna be right
Keep moving forward.
We even saw PeeP last week.
We were old producers.
We did.
Yes.
Great hug.
Pee Pee.
P was one of the two.
Producers, the first OG, like number ones.
Yep.
The day ones.
The actual day oners.
Barboard films.
But yeah.
We're fine.
We're fine, bro.
Just bring it in.
You fucking bring it in.
Hey.
Don't look at the scoreboard.
We're talking about pride here, boys.
This is why we prepared.
Did I tell you that shit was going to hit the fan?
Yes.
Now, don't be fucking surprised.
Right.
How are you surprised when I already told you this was going to happen?
That's what life, that happens in life.
Listen, let's get to the episode, but before we do, let's talk about sport clips.
Your hair may grow fast, but after going to sport clips, haircuts, you'll wish it grew even faster.
That's because sport clips is the best seats in men hair, and that may or may not be because it happened to be right in front of TVs playing sports all day long.
We know watching sports while getting your haircut sure beats watching a reflection while getting a haircut, which is why sport clips, at sport clips, every day.
This clip is in curveballs.
and Hail Marys and even waves and wickets if you're into that sort of thing at sport clips you can
check in with the pros in men's hair and totally check out with pure uninterrupted relaxation so yeah
come watch an endless stream of sports on tv while getting an awesome haircut sport clips it's a game
changer good pick up a beer and start chugging we're rolling boys how are the kids how many you have
four three all boys just had our third all boys congratulations to you too by the way man
Thank you.
I appreciate that.
I know that's two girls.
Tough look for you.
Damn, man.
That is,
we literally had a 20-minute conversation this morning.
It was like 6 a.m.
And he walked in.
I just gave him a big hug.
I said, brother, I'm so sorry.
Man, I'm hurting for you.
And the thing that sucks, too,
is he's so disappointed about what I have.
I have two, only two girls.
Yeah.
And it is great.
Hey, but that take care of you the rest of your life, though.
You think so.
My boys?
What you hope for.
Oh, come on.
man they're they're gone
immediately every
I think so I think my three year old's gonna do
the same thing as a boy would
she's gonna dip at like 1617
yeah she's so independent
the boy wood
she yeah
yeah because boys
people do say that
like they'll take care of you
and all that the girls
take care of you
and the boys don't but
yeah
I don't know man
I know my oldest will
I think my oldest will never leave my house
she's gonna live in my basement
that's how like that's how she
go take over to guess house
best friends
yeah maybe best friends forever
her and my wife
but my little three year old dude
she doesn't
Yeah.
Anything she can do on her own, she's doing on her own.
Yeah.
Dresses herself every day.
Will not let me dress her that type of thing.
How many, you said, do you have, how many boys are you?
Three boys.
So all boys.
Three boys.
And there's a secret.
Five, four and eight.
Oh, so the secret, I got to, I got a going for you, James Jones, right?
He always told me he got two boys.
He was like, two to the left, two to the right, down the middle, and leave the drizzle.
That's how you get boys.
I mean.
To the left, to the right, two down the middle, and,
leave the drizzle.
Leave the drizzle.
Got sitting there for a little bit.
The only thing I understood there was down the middle
and the drizzle part.
What are we doing going to the left and right?
Yeah.
And I don't know if I got six pumps in there.
It's crazy.
Got six pumps in there.
I didn't even know you could take directions in there.
I thought it was like a straight ahead type of deal.
Yeah.
Is that how it works?
Bro, I would.
It's the boys.
I mean,
we were intentional about trying to get boys.
Like all the myths and everything you can.
You got on Google search?
Yeah.
I was honestly surprised.
Yeah.
Very surprised to see the pink.
For just whatever reason, I felt like I was separated enough.
Little did I know I care as much as I do now.
But I felt separated enough to where I'm like, if I get another one of Roo, like, I mean, I'm winning.
I don't feel near as, like, gung-ho about needing a boy the way I felt like I needed a boy the first one we had because I was disappointed with Roo being a girl.
And this one came out, bro.
And when I saw the pink.
Oh, you saw it on your face.
I saw the picture.
Yeah.
That's all the picture's last name.
I truly I couldn't believe it.
Yeah.
That, in that moment is when I was telling Taylor, I was like, it's not that I was disappointed that it, I mean, I was disappointed that it was pink.
But it's not that I'm upset that I have two girls.
It's just that in that moment, I realized how badly I did want a boy.
Because there's a part of me that didn't necessarily want three.
Like I let's, we'll have two.
It'll be all good.
Two girls, whatever.
We'd love to have a boy, would prefer a boy.
But it's whatever.
But when that moment happened, I think everything just, like, kicked in my heart.
Heart Sutter racing before I saw.
And I was like, we're going to have to get, we're going to have to get after it immediately.
Because we have to.
Right back to it.
Irish twins.
We, I need to have a boy.
I need to have a mic back.
I mean, I don't know.
I wanted, I wanted a girl.
This last one, I wanted a girl.
I thought we're having a girl.
That's a selfish statement.
It's a selfish statement.
It's a selfish statement.
The first kid, would you want a boy or girl?
Boy.
100%.
And the second one, you didn't care.
Didn't care.
Because you already had a boy.
Exactly.
So this is like watching a rich kid going, it's all good.
Yeah.
You'll be able to pay rent.
It's all good, man.
Don't worry about it.
You're playing with house money.
Yeah.
No, you're playing with house money.
I'll say this too about like with guys and wanting boys and the sports world and everything
else.
Like every guy wants their son that hopefully is kind of like maybe a clone of themselves.
Hopefully they can be better.
But even with one boy, I feel like and correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like all guys
have this.
They even want a second one because it helps the percentages.
So like, okay, maybe I have the first one and I name them the fourth.
but maybe he's not, maybe he's not like what I was envisioning in my head.
But that second boy, you got another shot.
Like, oh, that's going to be the athlete.
That's this.
That's that.
You have two shots versus.
Exactly.
My oldest, he was, I think maybe two.
And we were back in Green Bay.
He was in the house.
I'm at practice.
He trips over the carpet, bust his head on a wood table,
cuts his head open.
We got to go get stitches.
Everything's all right.
We get him taken care of.
We're riding home.
I told my wife, man, we got a, we got a bad athlete.
Oh, no.
I was a little worried.
How do you handle the pain?
How do you handle the pain?
I mean, he, he did all right.
He did all right.
I went back and watched, you know, watch the camera, watch the tape, see what happened,
tripped over his own foot, busted his head open, led to stitches.
He got his war wounds, though, and he's actually a pretty good athlete.
Now he's playing with 70-year-olds as a five-year-olds.
year old in soccer so you know he's okay yeah he's good he's good but i was a little worried in that
moment i was like okay i got a little i got a little man child in my second who's if you look at him
he's built stout like he's he's he's a sturdy kid he's a sturdy kid yeah if a gust of wind comes he's
gonna be all right exactly he's he's definitely going to be taller to me he's probably going to be a
little stronger than me he has the back muscles already as a four-year-old so i'm not too worried
about him but you know i i definitely know i got an athlete in the first one now as a father of
the son is the greatest badge of honor at this age the you know he's five he's playing with seven
year olds is that one of the greatest that is that is especially because i think in this day
in age everybody especially in national for some reason everyone wants to hold their kids back so
they can be older as seniors in high school but like when i was a kid i started school at four
like i turned five like a few days into the first in kindergarten and then i graduated at 17 so
i've always been the youngest i've always played up and i've always
felt like it made me better because I'm playing with, I got to hold my own.
I'm playing with older kids all the time.
So I wanted that for my boys.
It well.
Brett Kern said the same thing.
He was talking about boys.
Like girls, you want to hold back because you want them to be like the oldest,
the most mature in their class.
But with boys,
as soon as you can possibly get them in, get them in.
Like the four-year-old thing.
I graduated at 17 too.
And I always felt like, hey, that's an edge.
I'm just a little bit younger than everybody else.
But, you know.
And you know, we're happy.
I just want a boy.
I don't know what I dropped that.
one a boy you get drafted a little earlier yes a little bit younger to get that next contract
yeah the long game yeah you're you're you're a five-year-old kid that's crazy i talk about myself
i'm talking about myself i ain't put that on him i don't want your kid goes to kentucky yeah he's a redshirt
junior let's just say he's a true junior because he's going to be a stud has the opportunity to go to
the league he'll be maybe a first round pick you really not sure could go top 32 could not
you're telling him to leave yeah probably so yeah
Business decision.
Yeah, that's good.
Yeah.
You can always go back and get your degree.
Always.
That's what I did.
I went back.
So I graduated in 2015, so I went back five years after I was done and got my degree.
So I was taking online classes every offseason and finally got my diploma.
What was that?
2015.
Yeah.
How many times have you used it?
Not yet.
Yeah.
But I'm currently unemployed, so maybe.
Never too soon to start.
Yeah.
If your kids are good enough to get recruited at that kind of level, is there some bias and pressure to go to Kentucky?
For sure. You know, definitely I would love for that for them to follow my footsteps.
But I also don't want my kids to play football either. Like, I'm trying to.
You don't want them to play football. I'm trying to push them to soccer or tennis or golf.
Theater. I took all the hits. I took all the possible CTE so y'all can go do something else.
You know, if they want to make that decision and decide to play later on in life,
then, you know, I'll probably let him around high school,
but I'm not going to let them play.
Like, they can play flag into that.
Really?
Yeah, that's my personal opinion.
I love that opinion.
Yeah.
I don't necessarily, I think if I had a boy, I'd want him playing.
Not one him, but I wouldn't.
I'm not thinking about it in that capacity.
I'm just thinking, like, you don't play tackle ball?
Like, let's get out in the yard.
I'll teach you a couple of games.
How many tackle ball, how many kids, like eight-year-olds are playing tackle football right now, though?
Does that even happen anymore?
I'm thinking my, with my R league, it was like fourth grade.
The earliest.
The earliest are you going pads on, yeah.
We started in second grade.
Second grade.
Second grade.
I was tackle football and second grade.
No way.
But you remember being in recess.
Yeah, it was the 90s.
Playing that one game we can't say the name of anymore.
Right.
Throw the ball up in the air.
Whoever's guys got to go.
Come on.
Oh, smear the queer.
Hey, the drills two that you do back in the day, like duck, duck, goose.
Did you guys ever do duck, duck, goose?
In football?
In tackle football.
No.
What?
Yeah.
Obviously, you sit around.
dug that goose you pat the head and the kid gets up and you just run and fucking run into
each other oh you're on opposite directions in me healed yeah yeah Jesus oh we never played that
yeah we know Oklahoma drill Oklahoma was nasty no who didn't play that who Austin rivers yes
Oklahoma drills made more NBA players than any other drill out there no question and you see nobody
is backing him up right now I haven't heard one NBA player talk about oh I could play at an NFL
haven't heard it they have been quiet you know did you see uh Lou Williams
he had a he had a take and I actually respected his take he kind of talked through it all he's like
let's not act let's not act like now like football like all like all like all y'all aren't
pussies like there's some guys that catch a ball and they make business decisions going down and
I got a nice chuckle out of it because he's like he's like there's still some like essentially
grit and spit in the NBA yeah but let's not act like everybody across the board the NFL has got
this toughness mentality yeah but the grittiest dude in the NBA is like one of the
softer dudes of any NFL team did you hear what charles barclay said
And what did he say?
He was on club Shayshay.
He said he played football one day.
And his coach told him,
we got to do this again tomorrow.
And he's like, oh, no, I'm done.
I'm done.
For real?
To run into people for two hours straight?
Yeah, he said it on Club Shashay.
I just listened to it coming back from the beach last week.
So I think that was probably in the past month that he said that.
It was before Austin Rivers said what he said.
And we're talking about Charles Barkley,
one of the toughest NBA guys in the history of the game, right?
Growing up in that time.
There is a different mentality.
But same reason you're talking about y'all,
when my kids do something else,
like the cats who are skilled and are up to go after the NBA dream,
I mean, there's way more.
I mean, there's nobody that's leaving the NFL to,
or there's nobody's leaving the NBA to go to the NFL.
Or in the NFL is just going to stay if they had the opportunity to go to the NBA.
Yeah, there's way less money and way more physical.
The injury rate is so much higher in the NFL.
It's actually a horrible sport if you really think about it.
Yeah, for sure.
It's a terrible sport.
It is gladiators.
And what I appreciate too, Lou is he was also talking about the skill required, like in the NFL, like catching a football, catching a punt or really catching a punt seems like the hardest thing to do in the NFL.
But he was talking about all the different things, reading offense, reading defense, along with the high level skill that's required.
Because I do think the NBA, like the skill requirement there is way, way higher.
No question.
Because the barrier of entry to get into play basketball is like low.
Like everybody can go into a gym and play a basketball.
You need a ball that bounces in some shoes.
Yep.
Yeah.
and inches.
But, yeah, catching a punt.
What do you think is the hardest skill?
You've played a lot of different positions.
The hardest left tackles.
Left tackle for sure is one of the hard.
I just threw a line out there.
I'm glad you guys bet.
Thank you.
I thought we're going to walk past that real quick.
Without a question, corner.
Without a question.
I think you're right.
Been out there on the island by yourself,
which I mean, not too many guys doing in this age of football.
being out there on the island
by yourself running backwards
flipping your hips
getting out of your brakes
being able to make the contested
PbU
keeping your body control
exactly come on
like being able to like
and then if you're picking the ball as well
like that's that's tough
that's tough sledding out there
it is the hardest thing to do
it's one of the
watching a corner that has good hips
and good feet and everything
it's like watching poetry sometimes
it is one of the more beautiful things
you can possibly watch
in sports.
Just the ability to track and watch somebody and move with them, not knowing what they're
doing while they know exactly what they're doing is got to be.
It has to be the hardest thing to do.
I mean, Jalen Ramsey, like his, like, he had some basketball highlights that were
surfacing last week when all this stuff was going down to Duke and he can hoop as well.
There's no question.
Tiggins.
Tate Adams.
Yeah.
I've heard Tate Adams is insane.
I don't like, I don't feel like there's a whole lot out there on, but everybody through
the Graveind says he's like.
Yeah.
A legit ball player.
What about Devin Funches?
He just signed a deal with a European league.
He did have washed up wide receiver.
You know, can't play in the NFL anymore.
She just decides, let's go sign professional basketball.
Okay, that was a little nasty towards the Michigan guy, but yeah.
You said it pretty strong.
Washed up.
A lawless world.
How did you deal?
How did you deal with that playing?
I really don't.
It doesn't really bother me.
Yeah, but we've all sat there and fell victim to the search bar and putting our name in it.
No question.
You see everything that said.
I think one thing that people think that I'm like 47 because like my first game in the league,
like that's exactly what I was.
Yeah, you were like, yeah, I thought he was old as shit.
When I started looking up your stuff, I was like, even being the league, I was like,
year five.
I'm like, yo, Randall Cop's still doing it.
You're like a year older than me.
But you just been, you've been.
You've been making highlight plays since literally your first play as a rookie,
that it just seems like you've been in the league for 20 years.
I was 20 when that play happened.
So like-
That's crazy.
You know what I mean?
Like I was so young coming in.
And like even now, like whenever I talk to like these rookies and stuff, like they were in
kindergarten, first grade when that game happened.
So like if you think about it from that perspective, they're going through middle school, high school, college.
And I'm still here.
Like, I mean, I think that speaks for itself.
Washed, though, that I think that is a, it happens to everybody, right?
Like, maybe not everybody.
I mean, Tom Brady was still doing it at 42.
Yeah.
Well, he'll be washed at 45.
I mean, everybody gets washed.
Everybody ages out of this league at some point.
It's a matter of, like, when and how.
I don't think anybody ever goes out on their own terms the way that they want to.
but I'm kind of in that position now.
Like, if I want to go out on my own terms, I can.
Like, and I'll be happy.
You know, I haven't made any kind of decision,
but also somebody's got to want you too, right?
So I'm just sitting back relaxing, enjoying time with the family,
chilling, taking vacations, living life.
How does that dialogue work with your family, though?
Well, you're sitting there with your wife and you're like,
this has been a part of your life forever.
You've been doing this since second grade, you said, right?
Right.
Like, if you walk away,
from this you're essentially walking away from a piece of your identity we all we all say it's like
what we do not who we are but if you play for this long it is part of who you are no doubt how does that
dialogue look with your family and the calls come in or not coming in and just kind of making that
transition so my wife she keeps like she keeps asking me like are you sure like are you sure you
what like which way do you want to go like how do you want to do this um and for me personally i've
moved my family we've lived in 10 different places in the past five years like between you know
I was in Green Bay.
We had an all-season home in L.A.
Then I went to Dallas.
Then we went to Houston.
Back to Green Bay.
We packed up everything and moved to Nashville.
And now Nashville's home base.
We went to Jersey.
We had multiple rentals in different places.
My oldest is five.
He hasn't even started kindergarten yet.
And he's been in five different schools.
So, like, I see how much it weighs on them every time we move.
And, like, you know, they not have, like my oldest.
son, both of my boys not having any stability. So being able to give them stability is huge for me at this
point. And that's all that I really want is to give them that opportunity. Like, you know, I've,
lived out my dream. You know, I don't think another year of football is going to change anything in my
life. Like, if I play great, if I don't, great. Like, I'm good. I'm good. Like, I've been able to
financially take care of my family. I've been able to emotionally live out my dream. And to be
honest with you, I'm kind of ready for that next phase of life to figure out what it is,
whatever it may be. Like, I love being around the game. I want to stay around the game in some
capacity. I don't know what that'll be or how that'll come, but the way I look at is it took me
20 years to get drafted into the NFL. So in another 20 years from now, I want to be solidified
and whatever I'm doing in my post career. So I'm going to go to the next phase of life with the
same attitude that I did in this one. And whatever pathway I decide, I'm going to put
100% into it. I'm going to put all my working time into it and I'm going to get better at whatever
it is. I know it's not going to happen immediately, but in five years, 10 years, I'll be where I,
where I know on the path that I'm trying to get to. With, clearly you're not going to retire on Bustin
with the boys. But if you had a crystal ball and there's a couple different scenarios that you're
flirt, that you would like, if that didn't go, if this scenario didn't happen, say in my brain,
It was like if this happened before the season, that'd be sick.
If this happened right before the first week of the NFL, sick, missing training camp.
If we're getting into the season, like, what are the different scenarios in your head if you had a crystal ball that would play out well for Rital Cup?
I would say I think it would be disrespectful to the game, in my opinion, for me to go somewhere right now.
I don't think that I'm in a position.
Like, I've been training, but I haven't been like NFL training.
You know what I mean?
And I don't want to disrespect the game in any way.
So it would be disrespectful for me to go anywhere right now.
I'm going to take my training up a level in July and train July, August.
I think two months is plenty of time for me.
I think we all figured that out during COVID that you know what you need to get ready for a season.
And I was able to do that in two months during the COVID time.
I'm going to start training in July, August,
and we'll see what happens come September.
You know, I already, me and my wife,
we already booked a trip, the start of training camp.
So for me, I'm like, that's out the picture.
That's out of the picture.
Like, I personally don't feel like I need training camp.
Right.
I'll be ready whenever that time comes.
But, yeah, I think the perfect scenario for me
would just let the season play out.
And, you know, maybe something happens mid-season and somebody needs somebody, need me, and I'll be ready.
But I think there's only a few situations that I'd be interested in and somewhere, you know, a few places that I've had some familiarity with.
And like I know the coaching staff.
I know the offense already.
And it'd be something where I can jump in and be of support in whatever way that I could be.
What about places you're not familiar with?
Like contenders.
Would you be interested in like a Kansas City or a Buffalo?
well?
Or the Vikings with a young J.J. McCarthy?
You know, one thing, last year before I went to the Jets, it was like, man, I'm good.
This is a storybook ending.
I finished me and Aaron walking off the field at Lambo.
I got to come back and finish my career where it all started.
Like, if this is the end for me, I'm good.
I'm content with it.
And then, like, we got into the offseason, and I had that itch.
And it was like, I'm not done yet.
But my one thing was I don't want to go somewhere and play with a quarterback that's not established.
I want to go into a situation that I know the guy that's throwing the ball can get it done.
And, you know, lucky enough, the Jets was that opportunity for me.
And, you know, it made sense.
I already knew the offense with it being Hackett's offense.
I knew the quarterback obviously playing with him for a decade.
I mean, why not, right?
So it was a perfect situation, and it was fun.
I mean, the four plays we got together was fun.
You mentioned the jump from Green Bay to the Jets.
Yeah.
Like when you're making that jump, how much did Aaron play a part when he was talking to, like, the Jets' higher-ups?
Did he say anything to them?
Hey, this is my guy.
This is my guy.
We got to get this guy in here.
I have no clue what he was saying to them.
But, you know, he called me and was like, hey, like, would you be interested?
And I'm like, yeah.
And I was like, but at the same time, like, I don't want to just come up there and be there
to be there.
Like, is it like something where like, let me get in there and let me show what I can do?
And, you know, that's exactly what the Jets did.
They gave me an opportunity, you know.
I was coming off of a surgery last year.
I had a little bit of a bone spread that I had shaved off and I rehabbed the entire off season.
I missed the start of training camp, you know, and, you know, even when I talked to solid at the end of season, exit interviews, I was like, you know, what was the situation whenever I came in.
I just wanted to get understanding of, you know, what they saw for me. And he was like, honestly, we didn't think that you were going to make the team.
Like, we just brought you in here, like, to help with the young guys, help with the transition and letting the young receivers know about Aaron and, like, how he likes things and, you know, what he expects.
but those last three weeks of training camp, like you balled.
And like not only that, like he, we had like a, we had like a running tab of like effort plays, right?
And I told you I missed the first few weeks of training camp.
So I, I wasn't out there.
At the end of training camp, I was in second place in the receiver group of effort plays as a 13 year, year vet.
Right?
And they do that based off of like birth.
after play chasing a running back down the field, plays being made, finishing with the ball,
after you make the catch, finishing to the end zone, like those kind of things.
And that's just who I, that's the player that I was.
That's like the, that's how I practice.
That's how I go about my business.
And he was just saying, like, we were surprised, like, about how much you still had in the
tank.
And that's why you got the nod to start the season as a starter.
Like, you know, so I miss most of training camp.
I had the last few weeks.
and I ended up getting a starting spot in the slot when the season came around.
That's wild.
What's like hearing like, yeah, we thought you weren't even going to make the team.
I love the honesty.
I love the honesty.
Like I'm a person.
That's a great answer.
That's a good piecey answer.
No, no, I'm for real.
I'm for real.
I would rather you tell me, hey, you're sorry and you don't have it anymore.
And I'd be like, all, cool.
If that was the case.
But if that's not the case, then, okay, there's a lot of, there's a lot of,
politicking and things that's happening behind doors.
Right, right. You know what I mean?
Just shoot me straight. I can take it.
How awesome was it when you did get traded back to Green Bay from Houston?
Come on.
Oh, you.
Let me tell you.
It wasn't the Houston, Texans of right now.
No, it was not.
And going back, the one thing, I would never say that I may regret.
regrets in my career, but I will say that I wish that I would have thought a little bit more
into it before I signed there with Houston. So I was in Green Bay for eight years. I went to
Dallas for a year, and then Garrett got fired. They hire Mike McCarthy, my head coach for my
first eight years of my career. It's the perfect situation, right? Like, I'm already with the
Cowboys. He gets hired. He's now in the head coach. Everyone is coming to me like for like,
like, hey, like, hey, word in for me with McCarthy. Like, you know what I mean? I'm like,
I'm like, what do you think that I got pulled like that? Yeah. Yeah. Right. So at the,
at the, at his, whenever they announce him as the head coach, I go to the, to the, to the presentation
or whatever you would call it. Press conference. Yeah, yeah, I'm blanking, obviously. I go to the press
conference and we're leaving a press conference and Jerry Jones puts his arm around me and it's like
I know you're getting homesick down here. I had to bring somebody in for you. So like it was the
perfect situation for me to go back to Dallas and like in my mind me and my wife had already found a
house in Dallas. We were like, all right, let's wait till March. Let's see what happens. As soon as we
sign this contract back with the Cowboys, we're going to be here. Like we'll probably live in Dallas
the rest of our life because we really enjoyed it. Like it was great. Like we had a great time down there.
The guys were great, like, playing with Dak and Zique and those guys.
Like, Zach Martin, great locker room, like great locker room.
Now my guy is coming in McCarthy, perfect situation.
And I let my agent, well, it's not only my agent.
They also offer me, you know, a bag that I couldn't turn down.
What was the situation?
What were the two options?
It was telling me it was money.
Because, well, he got a, what was it, four-year nice deal for Houston?
Yeah, so Houston gave me three for 27.
and Dallas were offering me three for 18.
But the guaranteed money was the kicker.
Like, you know, Houston was offering me 18 guaranteed.
And Dallas was offering me like 12 guaranteed.
That's a big gap.
You know what I mean?
I was trying to tell my agent, if they can get that to 15, like, I'll eat the three.
Like, in my mind, I always look at contracts, like, off the guaranteed money.
Like, the APY, like, that doesn't matter to me because I'm like, let me.
let me know what I'm going to get.
It's a cool shining number that makes you feel good about your neck.
Yeah, yeah, right?
It's an ego kicker for people whenever they,
when they start signing based off of APY.
But yeah, I mean, I probably,
if they would have been able to get closer,
I probably would have gone back to Dallas.
But I went to Houston and it was a great situation.
Like they had been to the playoffs for the past five years.
They had a stable, what I thought was a stable team.
right like Deshawn Watson, the quarterback coming off a great year and people don't realize or remember they were up 24-0 against Kansas City in that playoffs and they just blew the lead ended up losing that game.
So in my mind, I'm like, this is a, this is a great situation. They got D-Hop. I can go and, you know, be, work the slot beside him. And then like my first red flag should have been when they traded D-Hop, right? They traded D-Hop while we were finishing up our negotiations. And I'm like,
wait a minute that that doesn't like why would they do that like it just that makes sense at the time
but obviously crazy trade too crazy a fourth round pick yeah yeah that was worth round pick and
david johnson coming back um but yeah so that that happens and then i end up signing but remember
that's the covid year there's no off season bill o'brien's calling me like hey man i don't i don't
know if we're going to have a season this year like you know i don't know when to tell you to come down here
And then I remember he called me like a few days later like hey I'm gonna need you down here like ASAP like this thing we get ready to do it I'm like okay like what was the dates on that like was that like late summer yeah that was like we're going to camp we're not going to camp yeah yeah like you know trying to figure it was a wild time like nobody makes any money right right right
that was like at top I was like oh my god yeah yeah yeah 2020 was nuts so he calls you says you gotta get down here ASA yeah so we had already we had got a house done
there. We got everything loaded up, got to Houston, and we started season 0 and 4, and they fire O'Brien.
And in my mind, I'm like, what did I? Like, I just saw this entire place blow up. Like, I saw the
making of it. I saw it happen, and I saw the dust settle. Like, through that season, after that
season, you know, that's when they brought in. They hired Coley as the head coach, who hadn't been
a coordinator. He coached 27 years in the league. Great guy. He's from the Nashville area,
too. Another Smirner guy, Tennessee boy. So they hire him as the head coach. They bring in
Casario from the Patriots. And the first time I met Casario, I knew he was like, he's the guy.
Like he's going to fix this place.
His first day, I remember, of the offseason that year, he had 27 transactions on day one, a free agency.
I was like, oh, he's getting ready to flip the roster.
I completely flip it.
And so I go through that offseason right before training camp, we are getting ready to go out for the conditioning test.
and they come and grab me
and bring me up to the office
and you're getting traded
back to Green Bay
and like I just had the biggest smile on my face
did you know this was
this was kind of getting in the works
behind closed doors
since you're so close with Aaron
I mean he's publicly out there saying
you know front office making moves
not me involved like Aaron's he's obviously
had a lot of different headlines
but there were times where it's like
you know they're not consulting with me
on certain guys yada yada yada and it seems like
he had a lot of pool
and bringing you back to Green Bay.
Yeah, I mean, me and him had talked about it.
We had, like, obviously we had always, like, man,
that's one of my closest, one of my closest friends.
And, you know, we had talked about it, like,
the hope to one day play again together,
like, whether it be in Green Bay or whether it's somewhere else,
like we hoped that we had that opportunity to play again together.
And then, like, the trade goes down and, like, there it is.
I'm going back home.
Like, I got the opportunity to be back with my boys, Tay,
you know,
Debock,
all them.
We up in Green Bay.
We ended up having a great year that year.
Just get knocked out San Fran at home.
Crazy season.
That is,
why did you hate Houston so much?
What ultimately led you?
Is it the stuff that was going on behind the scenes
of it basically all unfolding
and burning down to the ground?
I feel you were pretty public about it, right?
Not like public as like a football player
would be public about,
like, I'm so happy to be out of there.
Well,
you had a quote saying something like,
how franchises are,
ran.
Yeah, I mean, any business, right, has ran a certain way, and you don't know how that
business ran until you get into it, right?
You were only in Tennessee your entire career, right?
So all you can speak on is the Titans and how you saw things work with the Titans, right?
You play for a few different teams.
You can see all of them.
You can see the inner workings of, like, what it takes to be a good organization or bad,
like being part of winning teams and losing cultures and stuff like that.
Right.
So I was in Green Bay and I was in Dallas before I went to Houston.
So you look at Green Bay and you look at Dallas.
I know Dallas hasn't won as much in the playoffs recently,
but over the course of their, you know, history as an organization,
like they've had a lot of success.
And there's a reason for that.
Like they have a certain way of doing things.
Green Bay has a certain way of doing things.
And then when you go to Houston and you see the way that things are being done
and like you can't do anything about it and you're just stuck in it.
You're like, there's no outlet.
Like, you know, and on top of that, it's COVID.
You can't go anywhere.
You can't do anything.
We're getting tested every single day.
Like, it was just, I think it was just a whirlwind of, like, bad.
And it was, it was just, it was a shitty place.
Like, it was, it was, it was, it was, it, like, especially when you're losing, too.
Like, you start off O and four and four, you end up going four, 12 on the season.
It's like nothing is fun about losing, right?
There's nothing fun about four and four.
Oh, and four, coach gets fired.
It's, it's, it's CYA season.
Cover your ass season.
Exactly.
Everyone's like,
officially no longer playing for the team.
You're now playing.
Oh, yeah.
You're like,
oh,
no,
that was on him.
You can see that from the coaching.
You can see that,
you know,
you can see it from all the different angles.
And there's like one or two guys
that are trying to keep the team together.
And they know,
you know they have no luck with any of the dudes.
Right.
But there's no shot.
You're going to keep this team together.
Exactly.
Make that early first quarter of the season,
firing a coach,
fire alarms going off.
It's a long season after that.
Yes.
But,
you know,
it is what it is.
And,
you know,
I understood the situation and I put myself in that situation.
Like I decided, right?
And that offseason came around and like, you know, I was obviously at that point,
I was going to play in retirement because I was like, I don't know if I want to play.
Like, if I got to go through this again.
Really?
You know what I mean?
But, you know, but that's part of it.
And, you know, luckily I was able to get traded back to Green Bay and go back home.
You know, that place is special to me.
It always would be special to me.
So that was the homecoming for me.
You talk about how well run the Packers and the Cowboys are,
which everybody who has a pulse in the league understand those are two great franchises.
What was Houston lacking at that time compared to the other two?
Well, I think direction.
Bill O'Brien was not only the head coach, he was the GM as well, right?
So now you lost your head coach and your GM.
Now who's running things, right?
Right.
Like, and it was a crazy situation with, you know, a guy today had put in place there
who it kind of went from being a team chaplain to the interim GM, which is wild.
Jesus, take the wheel.
That's a song about that.
Which is wild.
Just let God handle it.
Yeah, which is a wild situation.
And like, just to see all that happening and to understand what it should look like and to be.
in a situation where it's going the way that it's going.
It's just, that was a dark time.
How difficult is it to be in that locker room and not essentially talk shit and be like,
listen, boys, out there.
For those of you boys there are just been in Houston the whole time.
There's greener pastors out there, I promise.
It's like, hey, you're on the last year of your deal.
Get out.
Get out.
Do whatever you can to get up.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I know those two are good.
Stop talking about getting re-signed here.
There's 29 others you can pick from right now.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, no, it was crazy.
It was crazy time for sure.
You talk to me about,
you're the second time I've cut you off,
but Bill O'Brien,
now playing for Tennessee for my whole career,
I'll tell you right now,
I was not a fan of Bill O'Brien.
How was he when you were with him in the building?
Fair enough, we can move on.
Yes, sir.
Next question, please.
Yeah, I got you.
Damn that bad.
Look, I only got two months with him.
So it's hard for me to be able to really,
you know, I only saw what I saw.
We were owing for.
we saw i saw him through training camp yeah he didn't think that a season was going to happen so
it is what it is right you know and especially they always say like you can't judge people
at the end of like during a divorce and that's what he was going through that was it so right probably
been around the locker room and probably sharing the sentiment of guys who have probably been there
oh bro you think this is bad you should have seen him in 2018 like shit like that yeah just be glad
it was only four weeks yeah for real he is that dude man he's a dude that talks shit on the sideline
as a head coach.
Right.
I'd be jogging by and he'd like, fuck you, Luan.
Like, fuck you, Bill.
What's your name?
That whole thing.
It was, I was not a fan.
When you were leaving Green Bay the first time, was there bitterness leaving Green Bay?
Without a doubt.
Without a doubt, I was there for eight years.
Like, I, like, that was my place.
Like, and you don't realize it in the moment, but, like, obviously, you know it's a business.
And, like, I, like, I've always looked at it from that.
I love the business side of the game.
Like, that's one of the things that interests me in post-career.
So I understand the business, but it was like I've been here for eight years.
I've given everything that I could possibly give.
You know, I could have signed after my, when my first deal came up, I could have went somewhere else.
I took less to stay in Green Bay because I love it that much.
And I wanted to be a part of something special.
That organization is a special place.
So when my deal was up, like,
Dallas came calling.
They offered me one for five.
I told my agent, like, can you, like, ask Green Bay, like, just make an offer?
Like, I probably would have took anything.
They didn't even make an offer.
Like, they wouldn't even offer.
Damn.
You know, so that hit me in a different way.
Like, I think it would anyone.
Because you're thinking of everything you did to stay in the first time around,
all the blood, sweat, tears you put into that.
The injuries I've gone through.
Like, I punctured my lung in a playoff game.
Like, I'm watching the second half of the Cardinals'
game from a hospital, you know what I mean?
Like broken my leg and, you know, came back at the end of the season and had to catch
against the bears to get us into the playoffs.
Like I'm thinking of all these moments and everything that I've been through with everyone
up there.
And like, of course, like, why would I want to leave that?
Like, I know what I have here.
And I'm no dummy.
Like, anytime you got Aaron Rogers as your quarterback, you got an opportunity to win
a championship, right?
Right, right?
When you, this is a league of quarterback.
So like, no, I didn't want to go anywhere.
Like, that was.
That was home for me.
But you know what is what it is?
Like things happened for a reason.
And, you know,
luckily I didn't sign back with the Cowboys
because I went to Houston and was able to get traded back.
Maybe that don't happen if I go back to the Cowboys.
Then when you get traded back,
all that bitterness that you had,
you're like, man, I didn't know how good it was up here.
Thank you.
Hey, the first.
Shoulden shoulders back.
We have, come on.
So we, during training camp, we always have, you know,
it's a practice in the stadium, family night.
We sell out.
It's 70,000 people at family night.
I walk out.
The first thing I do is go and kiss the grounds.
The grounds of limbo.
Thank you for letting me back here.
Hell, yeah.
How long the animosity kind of lasts for you?
Because when you obviously go back to the Packers, you're stoked.
Yeah.
When you're not even getting an offer, you go to Dallas.
Like how long we essentially fuck the Packers?
I've given you guys.
Yeah, I mean, I think both of those years that I was gone
because, you know, I played them.
Like, when I was in Dallas,
us we played the Packers.
When I was in Houston, we played the Packers.
So, like, coming into that game, like, I'm juke.
You know, that's the one you circle on the calendar.
Like, there ain't nothing changed.
It's just like high school.
Like, I got to get my lick back.
You know what it means?
Tell the people listening what it's like when you go to a new team and you play your old
team.
Like that whole entire week.
Come on, you, I circled that on the calendar in the all season as soon as the schedule
came out.
Going into that week, I never, I've never been one.
It's like, I need the ball.
But that was the one week that, like, I was like, hey, like, y'all going to have to get me the ball.
Like, I got to let them know what they're missing.
Yeah, I got to let them know what they're missing.
And when the boys like, hell, yeah, we got you?
Yeah, yeah, they looked out.
They looked out.
How nice was it?
You talked about playing the family night and stuff.
We got to go out a couple years ago interview Lafleur, Basacia, Bach and Tunian and running back quads.
Dylan, yes, AJ Dylan.
Yeah.
And we got to see that.
family and I stuff, that stuff is incredible, but how fun was it playing for Coach LaFloria and that staff?
I loved it. I loved it. It was, it was a great time. I mean, just to come back and to be a part of it.
And, like, I knew coming back that it wasn't going to be the same road that I had before when I was in Green Bay.
You know, I was a little bit more aged. I knew that I wasn't going to be getting 80, 90% of the snaps like I did before.
coming into it, I didn't know what to expect because like, like I said, whenever I leave,
I don't know who it was that were making the decisions that they didn't want me back.
You know, it was LaForest's first year.
It, like, it was our GM Goetz first year or second year.
He had just drafted three receivers in 2018, which was my last season in Green Bay.
So I didn't know if I would muddy up, was muddying up the picture by them keeping me based off of him wanting to develop those three younger guys.
So when I came back, it was kind of weird because, like, I didn't know who actually wanted me back.
I knew one guy, right?
Like I knew Aaron, you know, wanted me to play with him again at some point.
So I knew, like, he wanted me, but, like, I didn't know coaching staff.
Like, it's a new completely different staff than what I was with before.
I didn't know, like, how it was being perceived, like, in the locker room.
So, like, whenever I walk in the locker room, like, the first thing I'm doing is I'm trying to, like, prove myself to all the guys that don't know me, right?
So with my practice habits, the way that I go about meetings, being a professional that I am, like, I want to show them, like, hey, like, I'm giving all the young guys everything that I can.
Like, you know, as far as, like, route running and understanding the play concept and all these.
things like I'm doing everything that I can but I don't know I don't know how it's being perceived
and like as the season goes on like I realized that I wasn't playing as much as I thought that I could
like especially like given 2021 and even 2022 like I was I was so efficient like I would come in on
third down and I like led the league in third down percentage of conversions like based off of 30%
snap count right so like I just like in my mind
I'm like, I'm doing all this, but like...
Why is it my role developing?
Yeah, you would think that like it would develop a little bit more,
but that just wasn't the case.
So like I never knew the reason why.
And like every single time, like after games,
I would like, you know, I'd make a few plays in Arizona.
Tay had COVID and was out.
Lazzard had COVID and was out.
And I ended up having two touchdowns and, you know,
LaFleur came over to me after the game.
It was like, man, I'm so glad you're here.
And then like he kept saying that and by the end of the season he had said it so much but my role hadn't changed and I was like
Man is he like overcompensating right now like it like it like it was kind of right mental mind fuck like that I just couldn't get over or understand
But yeah it was it was kind of weird but at the same time like I understood
A little bit right like I understood like what the situation was but um yeah I mean we had two great
years. 21, we should have went on a run, got knocked out at home.
2022. We didn't do enough early in the season and got knocked out by Detroit at the end of
the season. When you see your playing time not being changed, but all those same compliments
from Lafleur, do you ever go to have dialogue with them? Do you ever go to the GM and the head coach?
Yeah, I did. I did. I finally went like too late, right? What week you think it was? No, I went,
I went at the end of the season. Oh, really? Because I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I was. I finally. I was. I was. I was. I was, I was
After the years over.
After the years over, I went into the extra interview, like, trying to get a better understanding after my second year there.
And he was like, yeah, we were just trying to get more speed on the field.
And I was like, got it.
We're running track.
We got it.
Yeah.
But it is what it is.
But it wasn't a conversation of, I'm super curious because of the things that were said to me throughout the back after the year.
Again.
Again.
What?
It is.
It is what it is.
It is what it is, you know.
But like, for me, if I'm in that type of situation,
because often, I mean, they play all the snaps.
But if I'm feeling some type of way, instead of harboring it,
I'm going week five, week six, week seven, week eight,
feel like, hey, what do I need to do differently to get more snaps?
What made you not go have that conversation until the end?
One thing over the course of my career that any of my teammates can say about me
is that I've never been one that's like, I need the ball,
get me the ball.
You know what I mean?
That just wasn't my personality.
And maybe I should have been that way.
Maybe things would have changed for me.
And maybe something would have happened different in my career had I been like that.
But where I come from, my high school, we went 55 and 5, four state championships.
Like, we were.
Damn.
What the fuck?
We were.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know, we're like, I'm always been about the team.
Like, it's whatever is best for the team is best for the team.
I'm never going to put myself above the team.
That's just the way that I was brought up in the game of football,
and I understand that it's not about me.
So I never wanted to make something about me in the middle of the season.
Like, that would have never been the way that I'm cut.
So I waited until after the season to just get a better understanding.
And, you know, like I said, it is what it is.
That's part of it's the nature of the game.
Like, you know, I, even as the floor, you know,
when we had that conversation, like, he's a head coach.
He's not thinking about one person.
He's thinking about what's the best for the team.
And, you know, he did what he thought was best for the team in all those scenarios.
A lot of coaches, too, are different just the way they handle harder conversations or awkward moments.
Like, if you want to be confrontational, if you want to say this, I'm going to err on the side of, like, massaging versus, you know.
Be more direct.
Yeah, keep their head in it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You feel like that's how the floor was a little more, like, gut uncomfortable?
with uncomfortable conversations, so kind of want to stay away from that.
Oh, that's for sure.
That's for sure.
I didn't want to say it directly.
I wanted to.
He wants to keep the peace.
He wants to keep the peace.
Yeah, he's not a combative type of personality.
You know, it is what it is.
Like he, I think he's a great coach.
And you see what he's done this past season.
You know, everyone was like, was it Aaron or was it him?
Like, he's proven that he had a big part in what was happening over the course of those last
few years.
I mean, his development of J-Lo,
the way that he had that team ready throughout this entire past season,
and, you know, the run they went on in the playoffs.
That goes to show of how good of a coach that he is.
And I got to see it up close in person.
I see that the way that he looks at things.
He comes from that Shaddenham background,
and the way that he prepares and the way that he is schematically ready
and ready to counter, whenever someone does something on defense
that is a little different, like he's prepared and he's ready.
that team ready to go.
Being a fly on the wall those last couple years,
how positive of a breakup was the Aaron Rogers in Green Bay?
Or do you have a different thought on that?
I think it was time.
I think it was time.
I think it's when someone is somewhere for two decades,
I think that a taste of something different
and the exposure to something different is good.
And I felt that when I went to Dallas,
it was a different environment
and I had to prove myself all over again
to all my teammates, the coaches when I went to Dallas
and I think the same for Aaron when he left Green Bay
like yeah you're Aaron Rogers
but like you 40 bro
like what's up? We need to see it
and he showed them and like
I don't know if y'all watch
I don't know if y'all about hard knocks
but like people got to see
who he is on a day to day basis
with his teammates like he's very intentional
about everything he does whether it be sitting at the
lunchroom table or him in a locker room or in a wait room in a meeting room on the practice
field pulling guys aside giving them praise but also kicking him in their ass when they need it like
that's who he is on a day-to-day basis um and green bay i think like it was time like they they needed
they felt that jorton was ready and they were ready to put him into that situation i mean what he was
in was that year four for him of that contract i think he signed a new contract too right yeah they
restructured in.
Yeah,
he ended up getting a one-year deal or whatever.
But,
like,
it was time.
They had developed him,
and it was his turn.
Like that,
I mean,
it's,
it happens in the business.
It's a sticky part of the business.
It's going to happen.
It's going to happen.
But all the things you say about Aaron,
how intentionally is,
essentially being a coach while playing,
like,
as a packer,
if he still got juice,
why would you want to walk away from that?
Just because you have a young,
talented cat waiting in the wings?
It could have been too.
And obviously,
I'm cutting you off.
I apologize.
But it could be too.
Like even Aaron going to New York, there's almost like a new flame that kind of gets kicked in that maybe he's...
For Aaron.
Yeah, for Aaron to where he's moving not differently, but a little bit more intentional because there's more of a proving chip on your shoulder versus I've been with this organization for two decades.
There's obviously the back and forth with business decisions and here's how we should build a team.
I know the offense enough.
I know we got new flavor in here.
Like who's going to call what?
Who's going to do this?
No, you need to lean on me versus like, you know, you go to New York and it's a completely new.
new situation.
New scenery, new everything.
Yeah.
New players, yeah.
Yeah, I apologize.
I'm sorry for budding in there.
What was your question?
I'm trying to have a nice think tank about how, why the Packers would walk along.
That's right.
If he still has juice.
From a coach that's on the field with that much juice,
Hall of Famers still has all the juice.
Well, I mean, I think they're not looking at the short term two to three year plan.
They're looking at the long term picture, right?
That's what most businesses do.
They're not worried about, you know, they know.
They know that they're going to have probably some growing pains with a new, you know, young quarterback coming in.
They felt good enough about him where they were like, okay, it's time to make this move.
And like, we got to look at the next decade, two decades.
And like, let's be honest.
Like, I don't think Aaron's going to be playing when he's 50.
Maybe.
Maybe.
I don't know.
He could.
Who knows?
I mean, this is a quarterback-driven league.
They might, you know, you can't touch him anymore.
Seems like the Falcons are trying to take out of the fact is bad.
I don't know.
You're thinking long term.
Yeah, like the Atlanta Falcons.
How crazy was that movie?
That was insane.
Like I couldn't believe it when it happened.
I was like what, like you just gave Kirk Cousins.
180?
180.
100 guaranteed.
Yeah, 100 guaranteed.
And you just took a quarterback.
Peddix is a dog.
He is.
I think that always gets washed away too because he really is a stud.
Right.
But you just gave him $180 million.
We can't wait a year.
Yeah.
Especially if Kirk plays to that, like it gets a play like they become like a good team.
You're almost in that exact same situation on.
do you sign another deal?
You have this, you have Pinnix, who is a stud.
It was like, you know, everybody understands that they're thinking long term,
but even the short term for that guy.
Like, he wants to play.
Like, if he develops over time, it's like, when are you going to make the,
it could be in the same sticky situation.
Curse, what, 35, though, right?
Curse 35.
I think so, yeah.
No, Achilles.
Achilles.
Achilles, my bad.
That's what I meant.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, he's the Achilles, but I don't know.
I just feel like
I don't know what they're thinking
They they're like
The Packers always seem like they had like all the pieces
Yeah
And they've been lucky enough to keep a quarterback in the wings
Yeah
For what the last 40 years it seems like
Yeah
With Atlanta it's like it's not like you guys are like
Pretty old NFC South winners
Like champions like always competing for a Super Bowl
Like you're a middle of the pack team right now
In the NFL like wouldn't you want to like add pieces there
What do you got the quarterback thing locked down?
Yeah
But I understand
Maybe that's the play.
Maybe that's the play that they're going.
They're trying to go that route.
Maybe they see, like, Patrick Mahomes and him sitting a year behind Alex Smith.
And look at what he became, right?
Yeah, right.
Like, you never know.
You never know.
I think that's the hardest thing in the NFL as being a rookie first-round quarterback
and being expected to walk into the building and beat a guy, the CEO from the moment you hit the doors.
Like Caleb Williams.
You see them just came out and they're like, this is the starting quarterback.
Yeah.
Which is, I don't think I've ever seen that done
where a first overall pick
like days after, a couple weeks after the draft.
They're like, yep, third quarterback.
That's it.
That's got to be a crazy amount of pressure.
Right.
And when we were sent with Ra too, like Ra, too,
like Ra, he was alluding to Atlanta struggled
when Matt Ryan was done.
Like when he was on like his last leg,
like there wasn't anybody.
Right.
He was just talking about kind of the future,
you know, how they decided to make that pick on that draft night.
But you have experience now with going
into J-Lo,
Jordan Love, the Packers,
and then also you were around
with Aaron and Zach Wilson
with the Jets.
He was somebody who was expecting.
You got to go to the bathroom.
I was going to say,
you come into a situation too.
You got a cup right there.
What's up, man?
I don't know if his piece is gonna.
You come into a situation there
where it's like, yeah,
we watched the hard knocks
and juicy hard knocks,
like Sala, like all of it.
It seemed like, yo,
you were excited for the jet
because they've been such a franchise who just wants to win so badly.
A big media market and everything else.
You go into that first game and Aaron's down after four plays.
How big.
Talk about that moment.
Talk about those few weeks.
Well, it was like you said.
You guys are like, you're coming for it all.
Oh, yeah.
Like that was by far the best defense I've ever been around.
Like watching them day in and day out and practice,
the way that they practice, the way they get to the ball.
Like, I've never seen anything like it, right?
So we knew that the defense was going to be who they were.
And again, like, when 12 or 8 is the quarterback, like, you got a chance.
We had Brise at running back who.
Monster.
Monster.
Like, he's so cold.
Like, I don't think people realize how good he is.
And I hope that, you know, they'll start to see that.
Bejohn Robinson, we had him on, we interviewed him last week.
his top three running backs, Brees, was number two.
Yeah.
He's cold.
Yeah, he's starting to get on the radar a little bit, but he is nice.
So you got him at running back.
Garrett, who is freaky at receiver, like, he's cold.
Like, he's going to be, he's, if Aaron is out there, he's going to have one of those years.
Yeah.
Like, one of those years is like, okay, we see, we sue why he's who he is.
Yeah.
But yeah, we were going into a flying high, and then four players.
in four plays in like he goes down he goes to the blue tent they take him back to the locker
room but like obviously we're still in the middle of the game i didn't know what actually happened
in the moment like we didn't have to replay on the sideline we didn't know but did you ask a trainer
i was asking the trainers they they weren't giving me anything they didn't say anything so i'm like
every few minutes i'm waiting for him to run out the tunnel and you know i'm like i don't
seen this before he didn't went to the locker room came out in the second half like so he was just
Carrying the flag out a minute ago.
Yeah, I'm like, okay, he's coming back.
Where's he at?
Where's he at?
And then, like, half time comes around.
Like, as soon as the, you know, clock is zero,
I go sprint to the locker room.
I walk into the training room and I see him.
And, like, the moment we locked the eyes,
like, I've never seen him cry the way that, like,
they were flowing that night.
And, like, in that moment, I was like,
damn.
Like, it felt like I had lost family.
You know what I mean?
Like, it felt like I had heard that my brother died.
You know what I mean?
Like, that was...
Absolutely.
And I'm seeing him, and, like, it's just, like, so much emotion in that moment.
And, like, we still got to go out and play just a second half.
You know?
So, like, but in that moment, like, I just felt so bad for him.
Because I knew how much he had put into this.
Like, we had talked about getting an apartment in New York, like, back in, like, 2014.
Together?
Together?
Together?
Roommates.
Not roommates.
But, like, we were going to get a...
a place in the same building like you know like living cooler if it was roommates yeah yeah yeah but
you know yeah we were like we were because we've always loved new york like you know that's that's
always been a place that we've both talked about a lot crazy but going yeah but like it's crazy
like that that happened like we literally manifested that into being and like to see how much work he
put into it the entire off season the entire training camp and like four plays like not even
Even, like, we're not talking about, like, four games, four plays.
Like, for him only to have that experience for four plays, it was tough.
It was a tough moment for him, I know for sure.
And, like, the rest of that season was just, like, we just trying to hold on.
Our defense playing their ass off.
Like, your defense is so good.
We get the ball back in midfield, like, think, okay, like, we, like, hoping, like, please.
He's like, can we please get a field goal
and this drive?
Like, can we do anything?
Do something.
Do something.
God.
He almost upset the Chiefs early in the year.
Yeah.
How was Zach Wilson's mental during that?
When you're getting the ball at the 50-yard line,
you're like, please, God, just get to the 35.
Yeah, I mean, I think, again, like I talk about
where rookie quarterbacks being thrown into the fire
and being thrown into the fire in New York City,
the biggest media market, potentially in the world,
and there's so much hype for us as a team.
Like, those crows, like, they came picking.
They came picking us apart from that point on.
And, like, they had picked Zach for three years, right?
So now he's, you know, he's thrust it back into his position once again.
Like, it would have been, I would have loved to see him be able to sit back for an entire season and learn and see.
Like, he got to see it for a month.
But, like, I would have loved for him to have that opportunity because I think he's very,
talented. I think he just hadn't, he hadn't had that piece of understanding of knowing. And
you know, hopefully things are a little different for him in Denver. When on the outside looking
in, obviously Aaron eight being out there is like the glue of the entire operation. Is it the same
way internally? Like organization wise was it much different like when Aaron's kind of call them the
shots or not calling the shots, but a part of it in a big way leading up to that first game
to where the rest of the season now the organization is kind of, you know, you're kind of, you're
you know,
running around with chickens
with their head cut off?
Like,
what was the vibe?
Because obviously
everybody has their thoughts
on the outside
looking in,
but what was the vibe
on the inside?
Yeah, I mean,
as players,
like,
we're just trying to win, right?
Like,
we're trying to do everything
we can to win.
But, you know,
when you're a little bit
of an older player,
like,
you start connecting
with more people
than just the players
because, like,
most of the players
that I'm around,
they're, you know,
their early 20s.
They're doing their thing.
They're doing their thing.
like I'm spending more time with the people in the weight room, the nutrition staff, the performance, you know.
So, you know, I'm in a training room talking to, you know, everyone, like all the trainers and stuff.
Like you just start to like hear bits and pieces from all the different areas.
And like once you start tying the pieces together and you start seeing, you're like, oh, wait, I don't see this before.
And it wasn't in Dallas and it wasn't in Green Bay.
the PTSD
Yeah, yeah
I was like, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay.
What are we gonna do?
How do we get traded?
Yeah, no, no, no.
No, no, but it was, it was like,
it was really difficult,
but I think they put so much into that one season
and obviously they made such a big move for Aaron.
Like, I think that they were in a very tough spot
and I think it was a little bit of PTSD for them as well.
Yeah, you know?
Yeah, yeah.
You just seem like finally the year for the Jets.
Yeah, yeah.
Finally going to get whatever it is, they're finally going to be a good team.
Right.
That all of New York can finally get a majority for them.
Yeah.
America's like, oh, good for that.
But it's coming.
It's coming.
It's a hostel.
It's coming.
It's coming.
You think so?
I think, like, I'm very optimistic about the Jets this year.
I think, like, the pieces that they moved, that they made on the O line is going to be a big, big move for them, a big step.
You know, the defense is, what the defense is.
Defense is.
That's an elite.
You know, they bring it, Mike.
Williams they draft a young guy out of western Kentucky that he looked I mean just a little bit of
tape that I seen on him he looks nice like I said you got briefs in the backfield like the
pieces are there once again we'll see how it plays out dude what was it like when Aaron's done
like okay he's Achilles nine months at least yeah all of a sudden November hits
just clamoring you're eating Thanksgiving turkey and all of a sudden you're here and Aaron might
actually come back yeah like how
real was that to you? I was like, there's
no way. Like, come on, man. What are we
talking? He got on on the practice field, though.
He got on the practice field. That is nuts.
Like, that's a beat in its own. Maybe it was just
crazy. Maybe it was just a clip. No, but listen, you got
to understand, too, like, we eat the shit of that clip.
He was going that entire time.
Yeah. Like, he went back to L.A. and he was doing his rehab
in L.A. So we would only see him
on some Sundays. He would fly in
for the game. You know,
sometimes he would meet us, like he met us in
Vegas for the game. So we
were seeing bits and pieces, like,
we didn't know like where he actually was and like we keep hearing this and like yeah you can
throw a ball like you're standing there throwing the ball you're not really moving around but when he
comes back and he like is actually practicing I think everyone was like wait hold on like if we could
have won just like a couple more games I really do believe if we were in contention at that point
that he could have played like that is so crazy you really believe I really could have played in a
wild card game I would in a wild card game without a doubt he would have been
been able to play.
To the level of Aaron Rogers.
Okay, playoff game in 2014, he had a pulled calf.
We couldn't do anything under center.
We were in a pistol and the gun.
Everything was out of pistol and gun.
He was like, I'm just saying we would have been able to have him on the field.
He would have been able to play.
Would it have been smart for him?
No, but he could have played.
If you, I wish that somebody could pull the practice tape so y'all could
see some of the throws that he was making
the last week
of practice
against the starting
Jets defense. I'm telling you
that he could have played in the wildcourt.
Planning off his back foot. Planting off his
back foot. Putting his body into throws.
Is he the best player you've ever been
around? Without a doubt.
Like, it's not even close.
Like, who's second?
Tay.
Okay. Yeah. Without a doubt.
We had two without a doubt.
I got two without a doubts. What about three?
Is it not a dad at three?
No.
That's all right.
It took you that long.
It has to be.
It can't be without a doubt.
Those two are a different caliber of player.
And I saw Aaron at his height and take it to another level.
I saw Tate when he came into the league and what he's built up to.
So it's two different tracks, but they're both plateauing at the same level.
Hall of Fame.
Put that jellate jacket on them.
Like that's the type of players.
that they are.
Do you think people are sleeping on Tay now because the last couple of years in the Raiders?
I don't think people sleep on him.
I just don't think that they get the TV time because, like, he's playing with the Raiders.
And he's not.
And 12's not the quarterback.
In 12 is not the quarterback.
But, I mean, what he's done without 12, it goes to show, like, who he is?
He's an absolute stud.
He's a whole thing.
We're just like we're at the Raiders, was Zig and stuff like that.
He just, it seemed like he wasn't getting the ball enough.
Like, there was all those new things coming out.
Yeah.
I want you feed a guy like that 24.
You would think you would think you would think that
Take that boy to Golden Corral and let him feast
But they did that
They did that once the new head coach
took over after they after they fired McDaniels like
They started getting his pieces again but
Yeah
I like watching them too
Whenever I came back
It was
Like I love Ball
I love the in and out
I love the X's and O's I love the film
Like
the way that they talk about
ball.
Like, and that's the one thing.
When you're around Aaron, like, if you want his respect, you got to know the game.
Like, you can be talented as all get out.
But, like, I need you to understand that you're third in the progression.
Like, you can't be getting out of your route too soon and be open and, like, expect me to
get you to ball.
Like, I am going through my progression.
I need you there.
I need you to be there at a certain time, get open at a certain time.
And, like, I don't know if you ever seen that clip of Cooper.
Cup after the game where he's talking about like what he saw on the play and like he's
diagnosing the defense and he's breaking it down. That isn't that is a weekend, week out thing
in Green Bay. That's just how we talk ball. That's how we break it down. Like if you are one of
the guys like you got to be on your exes and nose. You got to be on your film study. And I'll
never forget. There was a there was a practice in 21 when I came back and Tay went over to
Aaron, he was like, hey, like, did you see, did you see the Rams play? I think it was play 27.
It was cover three. They did this. And they're like in the middle of practice talking about,
oh, this is going to be a moment during this game. And then we get to Sunday and we get that
exact presentation and the play is exactly the way that they talked about it right there in that
moment. Like, that's just a next level of IQ in the game. And that's the difference between
the elite quarterbacks and like that second tier like when I talk to Brandon cooks about his time
with Breeze and Brady like it's those conversations that's being had rather than just being the
play call and knowing the can and no like it's it's a lot more depth to the game. God that gets me
horny dude. There's nothing better than schematically you're going over something all
week like this will come up this will come up and the moment it comes
up in a game.
Yeah.
And everyone realizes it's like, holy shit.
This is what they said it was going to be.
Right.
And executing.
But it's not the coaches, though, is the difference, right?
These are we talking about two Hall of Fame caliber players talking about it.
God, you guys would have loved Ben Jones.
Yeah.
You would have loved him.
I tried to get him.
I try to get him to come up to the Jets last year.
Dude.
Come on, man.
They had called him.
Yeah.
I know.
I know.
I think I know.
You did that.
The up top.
I guess in the middle.
Okay.
You know what I'm saying?
Yeah.
All right.
I'm picking over what you're putting down.
Yeah.
Same thing Rahim was talking about.
Okay.
Yeah.
Him.
Hey, I'll tell you what.
I know we're kind of talking as if people don't know who we're talking about,
which they'll probably figure it out.
I know exactly.
The amount of players from the Jets that hit me up that were not just in that position group,
but other position groups being like, is it always like this?
And I had to just politely be like, yes, good luck.
Can I put it out there?
Yeah, I don't care.
I've publicly said it.
So it's all good.
It's so funny because like we would run, I want to say it was either a screen or outside zone or something, but every time they would have to run to the numbers.
Two strikes.
And every time they got to the numbers, they'd be like, fuck Keith, and run back to the huddle.
And I was like, what the fuck are they talking about?
What like?
I kept asking everybody like, nobody.
That's a band of brothers right there.
Nobody would tell me why.
I was like, what is going on?
And then like later in the season, I finally figured out what it was.
was but like yeah like yes and people players really don't like coach it's
it's crazy no it's i dude i legitimately tried to fight him his first year of the titans yeah i
actually dennis kelly held me back from trying to fight this man it was that it was that
shout out dk yeah shout at dk he's a he is a beauty but it really it was crazy to me because
he kind of went and he got better with the titans so i thought okay he's on a good path let him go
yeah and i'm i start literally i think it was like the first week
Like the last week of July, first week of August, I started getting DMs from players.
Offensive linemen, running backs, tight ends.
How did you do this?
Yeah.
Like, is he always like this?
I'm like, yes.
I wonder how Tyron Smith is handling that right now.
Bro, there's no way he's having that well.
There's no way he's hitting that well.
Yeah.
Two stripes all the time.
It's, I hate, I hate talking nasty.
Yeah.
But it truly is like sometimes guys that just haven't played the game in that position just don't understand.
It sounds like 310 pounds plus.
All that running affects you negatively.
There's a return after a while, but after, you know, only a certain amount of running, you're actually getting hurt more than you're helping, especially week eight, week nine, when you're not seeing the end of the season.
Take care of your guys.
Take care of your guys.
You've got to.
Otherwise, dudes will get hurt, especially in the offensive line.
Yeah.
They've got to be in shape.
but there's smart ways to keep dudes in shape without busting those.
Y'all had that situation with the Titans, right?
Didn't I see like a stat where there's been like the most guys on IAR?
Two years in a row.
Oh, yeah, bro.
It was a record in 20, was it 20 or 21?
It was 21.
It was back to back.
It was the year you guys, I think, went to the AFC championship, right?
No, no, no, no, no.
You're talking about the year where you went down with your first ACL?
But I think 2021 was the first year we set a record for most players played on one team.
It was like 85 or something like that.
2021 yeah most players used with 91 and then followed up that year with 86 players used in 22
just second most in league and it we're talking about like soft we're not just talking about ligament
we're talking about soft tish like you just it's just tough man and it's hard enough you know how it is
small i have a kink in my neck from sleeping wrong last night let alone playing a damn season yeah
and my you're just watching you that makes me so sad because my neck i can barely look left right
i know bro it is it's crazy how the dudes that have played it and are not
now teaching it, understand that part.
And it's such a crucial part of football.
It is.
When you get to that age, once you hit, let's just say 25 years old.
I don't know what the benchmark is, but let's just say it's 25.
You have to be smarter about the way you train and the way you practice.
It's not a toughness thing.
It's not an effort thing.
It's finding ways to give the effort when it counts.
And that is like one of the most difficult things for coaches to figure out, I feel like,
which goes along with our conversation about Keith Carter.
Even like winning the room and like, living like there are times to be gritty.
like, hey, I know this sucks, but trust me, trust me, trust me.
And then there's times to pull back where it's like, hey, being gritty right now
might not be the move.
It might be a little more detrimental than helpful.
And that was the thing.
It was like all gas, no breaks all time, which is awesome if you're watching Remember the Titans.
You're watching that.
We're watching football.
You're watching a good old fashion Disney movie.
For me, for me.
That's great.
I love a sports movie.
I love your opinion.
You haven't watched.
Have you seen Goon?
I haven't.
Taylor, Taylor, yeah, he's not big on Remember the Titans, right?
He didn't make a high school.
Yeah.
But also.
Chick-fil-A was overplayed for me,
and we had Chick-fil-A the other day.
I was like, this shit's fire.
Yeah, it is.
So I made me need to go re-watch it.
That said, I don't remember what I'm saying.
It's hard, dude.
It's fucking hard.
Playing in the NFL, it really is.
And it sucks when you get older and you fight you for the first time, you feel damn.
I'm a little bit older.
Hey, I'm not recovering as fast as I used to recover.
It's a real thing.
It's a real thing.
And it's just staying ahead of the chains.
And when you have somebody that's hurting you more than helping you,
it is the most difficult shit.
What is the most important?
day of the week. Sunday. Sunday. Yes. Like we should always be building up to Sunday. You should know
who you have in your room. You should know your guys. You should know what they need and what they don't need.
Like as a coach, like you should be looking at that. That's why I always like I got so much love
for Sanjay. Shout out of Sanjay out there. My receiver coach in Dallas. Like when I got to Dallas,
like I had hamstring issues. They put me on a hamstring program that I was done.
doing every week. But in practice, like, I would practice Wednesday. I would practice just
individual on Wednesday. So coming off a game, I played Sunday, you know, whatever on Monday,
Tuesday, off day, Wednesday. He would give me a little extra time to recover. So I would just do
individual. And when we got the team periods, like I was just holding a script, like being able to
go through the plays mentally stay there, right?
And then on Thursday, Thursday, I was on a snap count.
Yeah, like I was on a snap count.
Like, you know, I had so many reps.
And then on Friday was like, that's my gas day.
I'm going on Friday, even though it was fast Friday.
So the practice is shorter.
He knew exactly what I needed on my legs.
You run the red zone real quick at full speed.
Exactly.
Exactly.
And you jog through the rest of the practice.
Exactly.
But it's still being sharp.
The key third down that you got to.
Yeah.
You know you'd give him that little move right there.
We get to Sunday.
Like, I felt like later in my career and doubt.
Dallas was like, it was gold.
Like, that was a perfect setup for me.
And, like, I basically carried that with me the rest of my career after that.
Like, he gave me that piece.
And when I went back to Green Bay, and maybe that was one of the reasons they wanted to grind us out.
Like, maybe that was one of the reasons they thought that I couldn't go because I was like,
no, I need, like, this is what I need because Sunday is the most important day.
You need some load management.
I need some load management.
How was that conversation?
Not in the game.
Yeah, not in the game.
practice yeah yeah but we'll talk about that after the season yeah yeah when when you go from like
all right green bay Dallas Dallas Houston Houston Green Bay how are you telling them I this is what I
need without sounding like like it's tough to say that without sounding like a bitch sometimes or you
at least feel like you sound like a bitch like hey yeah yeah definitely definitely uh I I I just I told them my
history like the same way that I would go to the strict training staff or the strength conditioning
I haven't squatted since 2009.
I have a facet dysfunction and my facet and my back will get locked up.
So like I haven't back squatted since 2009.
My entire NFL career, I never backsquatted.
Like there's a reason for it.
Like there's a reason that I couldn't.
Like so, I mean, we made it work and like it was great.
My career worked out.
So like it is what it is, right?
At the end of the day, like,
fuck, not back squat.
Try to give that conversation, like, you know.
Yeah, it's tough.
Then when you hang up the back squat, at first you love it.
Yeah.
You're like, damn, I never have to back squat again.
Yeah.
And then after a while, you're kind of like,
I got to want to squat.
Yeah.
See, I like press.
I do heavy leg press.
You a pitch shark guy too?
Yeah.
Love the pitch shark, huh?
Yeah.
You do that little thing where you kind of keep your leg straight
and do the bounce back and forth?
You know what I'm about?
Get the glues fired up.
Get those glues fired up, all that.
Yeah.
Man, the pitch shark.
I never liked the pitch yard.
I'll tell you what I liked was
rear foot elevated lunges.
That was my favorite.
That was my favorite.
Lay exercises.
We did this French eccentric exercises in Vanderbilt.
Oh, the French contrast.
Yes, and that was probably my favorite training program I've ever had.
Man.
How much are you working out now?
I mean, come on.
We get after.
You tell us.
Yeah.
We get after.
We get out of lean right now.
That's what I'm asking.
Yeah, I try to stay lean.
I mean, we hit it.
You try to do a little something every day.
Yeah.
Whether the weekends that happens or not is whatever.
But Monday through Friday, you're pretty conscious, intentional about getting an upper, getting a lower, getting some conditioning, getting your sauna, getting your coal tub.
Yeah.
Like just staying ahead of the change of life now.
Because now you're thinking about you take all the hits.
Like you're talking about your kids.
You think I've taken all these head hits, the shoulder, the knee, the ankle, whatever it is.
And you're like, how do I not just, do you see like older people walking into the grocery store and you're like, God damn?
I don't want that.
And you look at the guy, he probably never played football.
Yeah.
So you just kind of want to stay ahead of all those stuff.
if you want to feel good, you obviously want to look good,
and then everything in between.
Yeah. It's like no matter what,
if it feels like the ideal situation every week,
trying to like exercise and get out there like five times.
Like today,
Taylor's in there working with lower body, right?
He was in there getting after it.
Either way,
he was in there getting after it.
And I worked out the two days in the weekend,
so I kind of, you know, my garment right now says overreaching.
So I need to, I need to work on some recovery a little bit more.
So I'm in there while Taylor's working out the whole time,
and I'm just doing incline walks like zone two cardio,
30 minutes of pop.
Yeah.
Getting some zone too cardio on my life.
Come on.
You know,
we're getting those,
those old garments.
I love it for me.
Did you ever use a ribbon or a fit bit or an oar ring?
No.
In football,
whenever I had those,
I would have the o'er ring.
I remember one season I wore it for like the first four weeks of the season,
but I would wake up on Sunday.
And he'd be like,
my sleep level was like a,
like a 50.
I'd be like,
oh,
mentally I'm not,
maybe I'm not ready for the game.
To the point where I had to take it off.
I was like,
I cannot.
Mentally,
I can't handle this.
I can't handle the,
I can't handle the,
tape the whoop down.
Yeah.
No, I just couldn't.
It's too much.
It's too much for me.
You know?
Some guys aren't built like that.
I wasn't.
Yeah.
I had one more for you now that he's no longer with the team, but how dramatic was it?
Was it as dramatic as it seemed with Zach Wilson in the middle of the year stuff to where it's like we're trying to text him to get back?
I think he left at one point.
Yeah, the mom stuff.
But also I think he left at one point.
And they had to get him to come back.
What?
He knows what I'm talking about.
Let's.
What's it talking about?
Right?
What happened?
What was this?
He left?
We're not going back.
We might go back, but, you know, he left.
Yeah.
Was it pretty dramatic?
I think in the media was more dramatic than it actually was.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, I think that they had told him, told him that they were going to trade him in the offseason,
and then they benched him, and then they wanted him to play again,
and then they tried to blame him for not wanting to play.
but you just told me that you were going to trade it.
Like it was just...
A lot of politics that go on.
It was a lot of politics.
That's that Houston-type stuff.
Like, it was a lot of like, come on, man.
Like, what are we doing here?
A lot of ticking.
A lot of ticking going up in New York.
Right.
A lot of meeting with the, a lot of meeting with the media, like, feeding them stuff.
Like, damn.
Throughout your career, how many years you played 13?
13.
We want you to tier.
Oh, we're getting the segments.
Yeah.
Tier talk.
One to three.
You can throw on a couple honorable mentions of meetings.
Oh, yeah.
Are you familiar with your talk?
I'm not.
Okay.
Go ahead, Will.
Basically, lists your top three.
Okay.
Teammates throughout your career.
Start at three.
And give us a little something.
I don't know to hear names.
I want to know why.
Take me on a little journey also.
And listen, this is teammates.
It's not the best athletes you play with this.
This is in popularity contends.
This is Raynal Cobb's favorite teammates throughout his crew.
We're hanging at the locker.
We're going, hey, we're going a trip on Vegas.
Hey, we're taking a trip.
You should come.
That type of those types of guys.
Guys that were about that life that might not have had all the accolades.
like a 12 or something.
About that life, having fun.
Not so much the ball part, but the life part.
Friendship.
They don't have to be the best player.
Yeah, yeah.
It's the best friends you had in the locker room.
Best friends had in the locker room.
I would say at three, I got to say probably Jordy Nelson.
Like, Jordy was one of my guys.
Great way I hope.
Yeah, yeah, that's my man.
White lightning.
White lightning.
Yeah, he was the guy.
Like I learned so much from him outside of football, like as far as being a dad and that kind of thing.
So I'm going to start with him there.
Two, for me, probably Brandon Cooks.
Cooks was one of my guys.
Like, me and him kick it, like in Houston.
We were there together going through the same thing.
So, like, we got, you know, we got a lot to hold on to when it comes to that.
And then one, y'all are saying not to do who y'all know who I want to put there,
but I'm going to go another route.
And I'm going to say, probably don't even know this guy, DJ Williams.
He was with me.
We got drafted together in Green Bay and, you know, young draftees coming in together in the Green Bay.
Like, we got some good times, some good stories from back in the day.
Damn.
Was DJ a linebacker?
No, tight in.
He played.
He was, he was a tight in out of Arkansas.
Did you tell him not to put Aaron in there?
Yeah, I mean, I'm just, we know he's your God tier.
That's your best.
It's your number one team in the whole time.
Honorable mention Aaron Rogers.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's my guy.
That's my guy.
Yeah, that's your boy.
I was trying not to go, you know, trying to.
Yeah.
Interesting for me to hear your list and not hear the name David Bactiari.
I thought David Bacti.
He's going to give me some shit.
He will give me some shit.
But me and him got, I got a bone to pick with him right now because they went to Derby.
and I normally go to Derby
but we had a family trip
that was planned that I forgot about Derby
so I okayed the family trip
so then I couldn't go to Derby
and you know so
so who you mad at?
So yeah yeah
no no no no not yourself
I'm mad at myself
I got a bone to pick with him
so the bone he gets to pick with is honestly
probably his wife
yeah it sounds like
but I got to put it on somebody else
yeah we're not taking that accountability
right now
that could be somebody else's problem today
Because then when you do find out his derby, it's kind of like, hey, sweet.
Are here's where we kind of messed up.
But honestly, we're going to do the family trip?
Yeah, I blew it.
I blew it.
God.
So what's the bone with Bach that you're actually picking with on him?
Oh, we just had a great time and showed it off?
No, yeah.
But, well, I was in a group chat the whole time, so I know everything that was going on.
So I got to see and feel like I was there, but I wasn't there.
But yeah, yeah, I got a bone to pick with you.
So we're going to talk about it this week when I see you.
All right.
not even airing out on the pond
I'm so curious
I'm so curious
we're at to find out
you want to do yours
you want me to go
you can go
oh wait wait wait
I had one question
oh yeah yeah
Brandon cooks
he's somebody who's
bounced around
the league a lot
but always has like
a thousand yard seasons
it always seems like
if he's somebody
who is having those
productive of years
like he would be
somewhere longer term
is there reasons for that
other than just like
one year at a time
contract situations
and him wanting
you know maybe something
a little different contract
I couldn't.
I'm always so curious about that.
I couldn't give you the understanding from a business side standpoint
that maybe GMs and agents are trying to figure out
as far as like numbers and cap hit and all that kind of thing.
But I can tell you that like he's one of my favorite teammates,
the way that he works,
like the way that he practices,
the things he does after practice,
the way that he takes care of his body.
Like he does everything that you would want your guy to do.
Like, is he like small?
Yeah, like he's small, but he's like, he plays big.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
Like he has monster years.
You know, I love his worth ethic.
I love his knowledge of the game.
I love the way that he goes about his business.
So I couldn't tell you the reason why.
And I saw him in year, I don't know what year that, that was 2020.
So that's year six for him, I believe.
So I couldn't tell you what led up to that many trades at that point.
But like, I got the experience.
him in year six and I have nothing bad to say about him as a teammate.
Respect.
Love that.
Respect.
I'm up.
Yeah, you're up.
Okay.
I'm going to give two honorable mentions.
Those honorable mentions are going to go to.
This is hard.
This is really hard.
Because you know what I'm doing?
I don't know if you did that.
You actually did that pretty fast.
For me, I think about the end of my career as opposed to like the beginning of my
career.
As I'm going back at the beginning of my career, I'm like, oh, damn, there was this guy and that
guy and this guy.
but I'll give an honorable mention to Corey Levin and Jordan Roos, two offensive linemen,
two just gritty white cats that were locker room vibes, good dudes to hang out with,
always, not always with a smile on their face, but like Corey,
type of individual who thinks fast but talks real slow.
Went to Chattanooga, like he just, everything he says is in slow motion,
but he's got this humor about him.
They just kind of love to be around him, and he's always down to have a conversation
regardless.
Jordan, I just,
the thing I love about Jordan is
he looks like a heavy,
like a little,
a couple too many pounds Viking,
like a long beard,
long hair.
He is like,
he is who he is
and he doesn't stray away from that,
but he has a good time.
Like he's got these weird quirks.
We would play like this,
this song,
Christmas is a coming by Bing Crosby.
And he just decided he doesn't like Christmas music
and we would have it on repeat
from Thanksgiving to Christmas.
Yeah.
And it was just him getting annoyed by it, but also having fun with it and just stirring the pot with him all the time.
I really enjoyed him.
So I have to give them an honorable mention.
My tier, fuck.
Yeah, you're putting a lot of thought into this.
I dropped the ball on mine.
It's hard.
I trust through it.
I'm going to go.
You nick him off the top fairly quick.
I was like, damn.
No friends.
I'm going to give my tier three.
I want to give it to Derek, but I feel like there was the play.
aspect played a lot into that as well.
Yeah.
So I'll keep,
very smart of you to throw his just name in there.
You see that?
It's not going to make the clip.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's not going to make the clip,
but when Derek gets me,
I'd be like, you got to watch the whole thing.
Yeah.
Um, tier three,
I'm going to go Dennis Kelly.
Offensive lineman.
Uh, we all know him.
We all love him.
Love him.
He is,
uh,
the devil when it comes to conversations because everything's devil's
advocate.
He could actually agree with you,
but he's just going to take the conversation and be like,
well, what about this?
And sometimes you're in the movie.
for it and sometimes you're not.
What is that called?
Contrarian?
Yeah, I guess a contrarian.
That's a fun word that I haven't said.
Contrary.
I think he says it.
Can you spell contrarian please?
Oh, I can't.
Contrarian.
Jack, be ready.
He's spelled contrarian.
C, O-N-T-R-A-R-I-A-N.
O-F.
Let's see.
Here we go.
Are we going to remember those letters?
Contrarian.
I hit it.
Come on now.
Let's go.
Come on now.
Oh, y'all got hits me.
We'll get a little something.
We'll come up with something.
Yeah.
Uh,
salt and pepper action.
We'll come up with something.
My tier two is going to go to Ben Jones.
And this is a very unique.
It's a good pick.
I'm actually flipping them.
Ben's going to be my three.
That is going to be my two.
I know.
I know.
I know.
I know.
But here's why.
Hard life out here.
When I first met Ben,
I did not like Ben.
I thought Ben was a people-pleasing corporate guy who played both sides but told the coaches
things.
I didn't trust Ben.
And he's right because that's when Taylor was briefing me on the roster when I first got
to Tennessee.
That was the thing on Ben.
You weren't a big fan of Ben.
I thought he was, I thought he was a company man because I was a for the boys type of guy.
Like I was, I messed with the coaches, but I also was like those guys are the enemy also.
We got to watch out for them.
They're trying to get us all.
And so we got to band together boys and do what they say, but always, you know, watch your
Right. Ben didn't feel that way. He kind of went back and forth, best friends with everybody and I just didn't trust it. Towards the end of my career, I grew to truly appreciate Ben Jones because he was not only for the boys, he was also helping by talking to the coaches. He was so integrated into the culture of the Titans that it was like another coach that had a voice with the other coaches. So it did help us out in return. Great conversation list gets along with everybody. He's kind of like a gatekeeper. He does a great job. It doesn't matter where you came from in life.
Ben brings everybody around and he's a he's a massive glue especially because our offensive line room
we had guys kind of leave go through their Houston process whether it was Houston or not but
they would come back and be like brother yeah you have no idea how good you guys have it here
we had like one of the best offensive line rooms maybe of all time and it was because of Ben Jones
like so I'll give I'll give Ben my tier three nod putting Dennis at tier two oh I'm excited to hear this one
I don't know who it is really it's not you no we said before the pod that we were going to
exclude each other okay yeah yeah
have to okay because will would be probably be my honorable mention at the very least yeah
yeah yeah um this is so much harder it's crazy you have the other you had the other two
and talked about it so well but you don't know who your number one is i know and i think i'm
actually going to overshot yeah because i thought i had more names in my head but now that i'm
really getting to it i was like he doesn't have friends yeah he kind of doesn't yeah oh man i'm gonna have to
Elevate everybody.
I'll put Dennis at one.
Okay.
Bennett, too.
I thought Mettenberger.
And I'll tell you why I didn't put him in there in a second.
After I figure out who's going to be my tier three over Corey or Jordan.
Jordan's going to be tier three.
Corey committed to beer Olympics and then decided not get out of it.
And I had to find out from Jordan that he was not going to be in it.
And for that reason, he is in my honorable.
He fell down the chart.
He fell down the chart.
Yeah.
The stock market.
It's steady moving.
Yeah.
June 24, 25th.
June 24, 25th.
That's in Vegas.
Beer Olympics.
Yeah.
Beer guys?
I'm not.
You got some tequila?
What's up?
We can get you tequila.
We can get you out there and get some tequila.
You can be a spectator?
You're trying to go out there for the vibes?
June 24, 25th.
Careful what you say to because we're holding.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
I'm not going to commit to anything right now because.
Check, see, if you have any family trips, any journey trips?
Hey, I'm going to make sure.
Yeah, I'm going to do a little bit better job,
pairing myself this time.
Okay.
Before I just off the cuff.
Yeah.
So I'm throwing things out there.
Respect.
Yeah.
So you got Dennis, Ben, Jordan Ruse.
Jordan Ruse.
Yeah, I think.
And Jordan really flew up the list.
I feel like.
But I'm saying in the short time,
I feel like you've been around Jordan.
Yeah, I think Jordan made a big impact.
I mean, I really like Jordan.
Yeah.
And I really like how this intention was awesome.
I love how much effort he played a game.
This feels like MySpace top eight right now.
Yeah, I love MySpace topic.
For sure.
I don't know.
I love it.
I know the background, the music.
The background of music.
I had a Webby, or Boosy, independent.
Maybe it was a, did they do a collab?
Myspace was the best social media warranted.
Where we have?
I-N-D-E-P-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-T.
Look at us having a spelling contest out here today.
Yeah.
That's nice.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I love this.
I love this.
I think that the tiers, I'm going to have to work with mine and come back to y'all.
Oh, you want to change yours up?
Have you thought of anymore?
I'm just saying, I'm just saying, like, I don't think I understood the question before.
Yeah.
Don't worry, we'll have another one, a twist of question after we do tears off.
Which Mitch has been working on for weeks.
My tier list is going to come.
Hold on, Metenberger.
You want to talk about Metburger?
Yeah, yeah, Mettingberger.
Why didn't he make the list?
Dude, so Met, I met met in a group chat with a bunch of random degenerates before the combine.
And then we both get drafted the same year to the Titans.
And we're at the Millennium Maxwell House.
He texts me and he goes, hey, do you want?
want to ride the facility together for our first practice or first whatever.
I was like, yeah, I get in the car and we're driving.
Millennium Maxwell House of the Titans facility is probably a five-minute drive.
Yeah.
On that drive, he tells me, he goes, you and I are going to hold each other's hand through
this career, spend 10 years and both the Hall of Famers.
He says that, and I'm thinking to myself, I'm fucking gassed up.
I literally live at his house.
Until my contract got done, it was like July, my contract wasn't finished.
And I was sleeping on his couch.
we were together every single day.
The reason why he falls down the list, 100% honestly,
is not the best teammate.
And I think when it comes down to the locker room,
I love met as a friend.
I thought he was a great, fantastic friend.
But when it came to like, locker room,
we're really trying to get this done.
I just didn't, as I look back in it,
the effort wasn't 100% there.
And that's where he did.
From a locker room standpoint,
just doesn't make my list.
Damn.
This sounds like Gary Bertier's friend.
I think, I think.
Gary Bertier, the one he had to cut?
The one he had to cut.
Sometimes he's got to cut a man.
You got to cut a man.
You're missing blocks like that.
You got to go.
Trying to win.
Yo, what a movie.
I got to rewatch it.
My tier list, and by the way, you can't go back now because I'm about to start.
But I thought, too, Delaney Walker was going to be somewhere.
Oh, wow.
I knew that I'm going to kill you.
I knew that.
You let you pour y'all.
Tier one.
There's no question.
There's no question that Delaney should have been on that list.
He's probably one.
However, you already missed it.
I can't believe I missed that.
I'm sitting there.
I'm sick.
I did the same thing with David.
I did the same thing with David.
No, you didn't.
No, you hate Dave.
We all see it.
I hate him.
All of mine I'm thinking about has to do with the Washington roster.
And you and Delaney weren't even close.
Delaney's not all mine.
I'm just saying, I thought he posted him.
Yeah, yeah, you can't take his back.
That does make me sick.
Delaney's not on my but I just knew I'm like
Oh he's gonna be
Sick when I tell him
You know I've been around you guys enough to I've heard all the stories
I've heard all the things the fun that you guys had
I'm like for sure Delaney's gonna be and you still have the relationship
You have with him now post career so it's like
That was a layout
That's the thing for Delaney with me dude is
Even with bus and stuff
Like he he's like so available
And we know he's there but for what it's because we know he's so available
We're like all right what are we doing over here
Oh shit Delaney
We should get Delaney to do this
Yes
mine are all around the Washington Redskins
that locker room we had even though we didn't like go far
you guys knocked us out of the the wall
was it the wild car round yeah the wall car round yeah yeah
remember that take it easy um yeah fuck it
but I'm thinking about that Washington roster
because we had a lot of good guys and I'm gonna go on my
political rant with you got the Ryan Kerrigans
the Kirk Cousins Mason Foster
Deshawn Goldston like Jason Hatcher
Sean LaValle oh my God Sean LaVelle
we get a moment right now
my tier three
my tier three is going to be
a man by the name of
Kedrick Goldston
D. Lyman out of Georgia
played a decade
he was one of those guys
he was never the superstar of the team
but he was the guy who always had
the pulse and had the locker room
and it was had that just
OG he was like unk
he was like the father figure the leader
as far as like family
the Bible studies
just the all encompassing of what
a man and a leader is is Kedric Goldston.
And I would just sit.
I'd pick his brain.
You know,
he'd have that southern accent that'd make you laugh.
Like,
he was the best.
So Uncle Kedric Goldson was my tier three.
My tier two is going to go to Trent Murphy.
He was somebody that I've been around.
We were around each other our entire, you know,
our entire stand with Washington when he got drafted,
like in the meetings,
fucking around with each other,
like stuff off the,
field like we go on our little hunting trip every year but he's somebody that you pick up the phone
and you talk to him or when you're texting like it's like that that texting style that you have with
each other to where you're always laughing about something or you know where they're coming from
that's Trent Murphy he was like he was my boy the somebody you could be self-deprecating around
and kind of bitch with but know that we're about that life but we're going to sit here and we're
going to bitch a little bit in the sauna yeah um my tier one is going to go to adam hayward he was a
that was with Tampa for a little bit, and then came to Washington.
And he came, like, my second year to where he put his arm around me.
He's like, hey, if you're going to make the team this year, it's going to be through special
teams.
It's not going to be knowing what to do a linebacker and everything else because I was on Peace
Squad the first year.
And he kind of took me under his wing and, like, you know, I rode with him everywhere.
We'd drive to the games together.
We'd break down film with each other.
And he was like always kind of that mentor vibe to where we were around each other all the time,
where we'd bick right each other.
We'd low-key argue way too much and honestly be mad at each other a lot.
But because of like how close we are and how we saw everything and Adam Hayward,
video games like in the offseason, like he was the cat that I was talking to.
And we knew each other like he was, he was my guy with his years in Washington.
So he's my, he's my tier one.
So that's my list.
That's a good list.
I don't know one of those guys.
Arizona boy.
You know, yeah, yeah.
I was going to say, you know Trent.
But yeah, bro.
Adam Hayward, Kedrick Goldston, just.
Just staples.
Staples of the career, like, for just all of it, for a lot of things.
When Trent and I were in high school, it always seemed like there was some tension there between him and I.
It might always feel like that with Trent.
Like, he just, he's a very standoffish kind of like.
He was dating a girl named Taylor in high school.
Wait, do you have something to tell us?
Yeah, fuck away.
Taylor was a she back to high school.
Now that it's out.
Yeah, but there was always like a weird tension.
He was always dating like chaparral people and he was a brophy kid, all-boys school and stuff.
like that and you knew about Trent Murphy but he wasn't in the circles I was only around him a couple
times but I thought this fucking God man I don't know you guys you guys you guys would hit off now but
you're for sure oh no we're boys now each other's like you're not each other's cup of tea
like if I'm thinking of back in the younger days oh for sure no I'm both you guys I got so you guys
would hit off now yeah but I think that the younger Taylor you're thinking of was college
Taylor I wasn't like that in high school what were you like in high school I didn't drink
at all my senior year oh yeah you were protein shakes early in the morning yeah I was like
Get up at 3 a.m.
Get a protein shake in.
I was all my grind.
Yeah.
I was about it.
He was definitely about that action.
Yeah.
Do you have,
have you thought of anybody else since we've been kind of talking about our list?
You feel sick about Dave,
because I feel sick about Delaney.
He don't feel sick about Dave.
He knows he can get back with Dave.
I do.
I do.
I do.
I do.
I do.
That was tough.
Thank God Delaney doesn't watch our show.
Yeah, that's tough.
We'll send to us.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
I'm for sure going to.
I got to.
I think one of the things, one of the things I think about was just like,
when you think about retirement, is this what you miss?
Like, this feels like locker room talk, right?
That's what the show's about, dude.
This is locker room talk.
This is what it felt like.
This is the vibe that you get, right?
Every day, every single morning you're walking in.
Like, everybody has their little crew and, like, you know, some teams intermingle a little bit more.
But you have these moments and you have these conversations just happening all throughout the locker room.
People playing cornhole, ping pong over here playing chess.
Boo Ray.
Boo Ray having these conversations.
And like, I think when it, when you think about, like, being removed from that,
that's the part that you always miss more.
Because these are the bonds that are built.
These are the, the memories that are made.
And you have guys that's never been heard of.
Like, but you have these relationships that last a long, like a lifetime.
And you have these memories that you can look back on.
Like, I think that, like, when you think of post-career, that's, that's what people lack.
and we miss.
And that's one of the reasons that brought us to Nashville
because there's so many of us here
and we can have these moments in it
and it just feels like so easy to do.
Like coming to Easter and, you know,
sack racing it up.
By the way.
By the way.
You're not talking about that.
By the way, I mean, the tape is what the tape is.
I might have answered you out.
Come on.
Everyone was celebrating you,
but, you know,
nobody wanted to check on me going face first
over that finish line.
I try to get it.
Full effort.
Full effort.
I'm so sick you guys were at my house for Easter party and I was in there.
I'm sick about it.
His kids are wiping the floor with everybody and then we had the adult one.
I'm like, well, let's see how we can bounce here.
And then as the race, I mean, it was only like, what, 10 yards long maybe.
As we're at that like five yard mark and I felt that I was like, oh shit, I could win this thing.
I'm just like itching to try to beat this man.
You did?
You felt that?
You seem like, you didn't feel nothing, did you?
You just thought he didn't even see you to be honest with you.
I just.
Well, you got to watch a tape.
I know, I saw the camera.
They can go on face first down.
It's a lot in that tape to like break down and look through.
Like there's a guy that looked like it towards ACL in it.
Oh, that's good.
Nashville is a fun time.
It is.
The house,
the house you're building,
you said you have a big entertainment area in there.
Yeah.
I want you to know,
Nashville,
people stake their claim to holiday parties.
Yeah.
And Taylon has staked her claim in Easter.
She has.
So you can take any other holiday you want.
But I don't,
I swear to God, dude,
If I get a card, say you're invited to the Codd family Easter party, we will have problems.
No, we're not doing that.
I'm trying to protect with my wife.
We're not doing.
We're not doing.
We just got to get a guy night going with the vibe.
It sounds like he has to where his house.
It's going to be a spot.
You cigar guy?
I am.
I mean, I'm not, I don't know them as well, but I like, I like to smoke a cigar from time to time.
You know, we got the golf simulator.
It'll be a good little spot.
Golf simulators, I don't even like golf, but they are fun.
Yeah.
Those are a good time.
When's that going to be done?
Hopefully next year.
Next year.
18 months.
18 months for now.
You know how they say is six months and it's 12.
Yeah.
12 months is 18.
But yeah, we'll see.
We'll see if we'll make something happen.
It's going to be the best.
Easter.
Easter was great, by the way.
We missed you there.
But my son, my middle boy, Kaye caught his first fish at your house.
So, you know, we'll always be thankful for your pond.
Very welcome.
Yeah.
That is awesome.
What kind of fish was a bass?
I have no idea.
Cool.
He caught something.
He caught something.
He caught something.
It was a fish.
He held it up.
Hell yeah.
That is so great.
Led to fights at the house later that day.
What's that?
Led to fights at the house later that day because the older brother didn't catch a fish.
So we were tired.
He had to let him know about it.
That lays us into our next segment.
We have a dad segment that is essentially it can be, hey, a little bit of wisdom.
You can put on new dads out there.
It can be something that pisses you off about your kids.
But this is a safe space for you to talk about your kids, your experiences.
So it's kind of like we have also a segment called Shadow, No Free Shadow.
But it's a small little thing that may be happy.
this weekend, maybe as a father, that things you like to do, raising three young boys,
that you want to tell to these people right now?
I would think just trying to make things fun.
You know, kids want to be kids.
They want to have fun.
I've noticed at times whenever I'm like, oh, don't do that.
Get over here.
You know, it just like, it adds to the fuel, right?
And it just, we all, all our levels go up and then we're really in the thick of it.
But one thing that I've here recently, I don't know where the idea came from, but like one day I was just like, hey, like I need you to go take a shower.
Like take your shower and then I'm going to do introductions.
Like I'm going to play an introduction for you to come out to.
Like, right?
Because they come to all our games.
They see the introduction.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So whenever I want to get them like in the shower so we can get this bedtime routine started, like I say let's do introductions.
I put on the Chicago Bulls intro whenever they get out of the shower.
That's awesome.
I give a whole spiel.
Like, yeah, yeah.
I give the whole run down and then K.
Cup and he'll come out and do a little dance.
Like, Casimir does a cartwheel and he comes through.
We got handshakes, you know.
So it just.
That's awesome.
Yeah, just trying to do something, find ways to make it fun.
And, you know, again, with the boys, we're always outside.
Like, we're playing sports.
We're, you know, I'm just trying to be as present as I can with them.
Because I know this moment's going to pass.
Like, I know.
in five years, they're going to go
want to be with their boys
and, you know, just trying to have these moments now
while I got them.
I like that.
Is there anything you take from your career,
like the work you put in,
that you, you know, try to have resonate with them
or you take from your career to help you in fatherhood?
Yeah, I would say,
um,
with them,
like my son,
my oldest thinks he's the coldest thing that's ever,
ever touched a soccer ball.
He is nice.
He's not who he thinks he is though.
Yet.
Maybe he can get there one day, but he's not that yet.
So it's just like being able to like teach him and have moments with him to like, you know,
slowly let the air out that balloon and bring him back to the ground.
And then with my younger one, lift him up because he see his brother like being able to do so
much climb up a tree and jump over this and he can't do it.
but he wants to do it.
And now he's crying because he's mad because he can't do it.
So it's like taking, you know, everything that I've learned and understand.
And I always tell my little one like, hey, or my middle one, like, hey, bro, like, you're going to be bigger than him in about seven years.
Like, you're going to be taller than him.
You're going to weigh more than he does.
Like, you're going to be all right.
But he just, well, when am I going to be six?
When am I going to be?
Yeah, yeah.
He's always ready for that next thing.
But just trying to like lift him up, bring the other.
going down, make sure that they understand that like the only way you get better is the work
that you put in.
Like, and like he's, my son is five and four right now.
Both of them were, you know, they're too young to be thinking about like my oldest son
said he's getting drafted and he's playing soccer in Europe.
Like as a dad does what you want to hear.
I would love that.
I would love that.
I would love that.
Yeah, yeah.
And I'm, and I'm always going to, I'm always going to support that.
I'm always going to push him in that, but I need him to understand too that, that even
if it's 10 minutes a day, let's go kick the soccer ball, like every day. So if you, when you get to
the game on Saturday, the kid that hasn't played soccer other than the last game, you don't
played, you know, the past five days, you've gotten 50 minutes of soccer on top of whatever
practice that you've had. Like, that's going to add up over the course of time. And when you get to
high school, maybe that kid that's seven right now that's better than you. At 15, you're going to be at
another level than he is. So like just trying to like slowly integrate that into them so they
understand. And we try to stay off his iPads as much as you can. But you know, vacation is like,
go ahead, take that thing. Yeah. Yeah. That drive. Sometimes that drive. I need a break. I need a break.
Yeah. I'm tired. Is there anything from your childhood that you remember that you don't necessarily
you want to do it differently with your kids? Um, not necessarily. Not necessarily.
One thing I'll say is I was very, very fortunate enough.
My pops was in my life from day one.
And like he gave me the perfect example of like what it meant to be a man and provide for your family.
He worked 14 hours a day in a factory building transmissions at Denzo for, you know, Nissan and Toyota and all these companies.
Right.
And like he would have to teach.
people that were coming in, like, their job because he knew it so well, but he got like,
now, I wouldn't say blackball, but like he didn't have the educational background because he was
only a high school graduate that the college graduates would, you know, catapult him.
And he had to, like, report to them, but he had to teach them how to do their job.
So, but also he would come home after 14-hour shift and he would be the one taking me to practice
and being one of my coaches or cutting grass at the house.
He just, I saw as an example, a worth ethic that, you know, was instilled in me just by watching him.
You know, he always told me that if I wasn't out there working, that somebody just as good as me was working.
So he always dropped these little nuggets on me throughout my childhood that I think helped me.
So I just try to do that with my kids too, not like forcefully doing it, but just like, I know.
they're listening and maybe they don't you know they're not hearing everything but I'm trying to
I'm trying to help them along their life yeah I love that and that's awesome your dad sounds awesome

Mitch Carsley.
has a twisted question for us.
What you got, brother?
I'm trying to pick between two.
I texted my one group chat like, hey, I need something.
Okay.
They did not deliver.
These are usually terrible.
Terrible.
Somebody else.
Other people have been on a good run that came out of Mitch's mouth.
Please DM me with your question.
We'll go with this one from my buddy Connor.
Would you rather have like always,
your fingers be like Cheeto, dusty, sticky, like, just dirty, oily, or have permanent, like, swamp-ass, like, scoot markers
or shit in your other way all the time.
Come on.
What are we doing?
That's right.
This is it?
These are the twisted question?
Yeah, that's all we tried to tell you.
Would you rather have dicks for fingers or a dick for another?
Come on, man.
Oh, yeah, that's a great.
That was just as good, I guess.
Why did I just, like, think I was like this?
Yeah, that's crazy.
I don't know why.
That was the first thing
up in my head
Your dick fingers get hard
Or they always stay flaccid
Let's say they get hard
Let's say you can have five orgasms
At once if you did
Oh wow
I'm going fingers for sure
100%
Fingers and put some Cheeto on them
Put some Cheeto dust and everything else
Hey can you get this off my finger
The question is
Are you going to lick the Cheeto dust off your fingers now
Yeah that's a thing too
Yes I think if I'm if I'm solo
Dolo and I mean
If you're solo Dolo
I mean, some ribs.
You know what I mean?
I got to finish it off.
Whoa.
Catch a little intimate time.
I don't know.
Hey, you remember turning 12, 13 and realizing you can do it yourself,
finding out for the first time.
Yeah.
And then you heard that thing about Marilyn Manson.
Yeah.
Where he took a rib out so he could suck his own piece.
Oh, yes.
And then next thing you know, your, your knees up by your head trying in the, in the
bathroom on the floor.
Never.
Come on, no.
You're lying.
Never.
This is a place of truth.
This is no.
Wait a minute.
Wait a minute.
This is a real thing.
This is a real thing.
And Kevin Hart just talked about it.
in the roast.
That is,
why is there such a cultural difference
when we talk about,
like,
white people stuff and black people stuff?
Yeah,
like the jokes.
I feel that.
Like,
it's a real thing.
Like,
it's,
yeah, dick jokes do go hard
with white dudes.
Yeah.
Black dudes are always,
hey,
stop playing.
And you play too much.
And Taylor and I are on the opposite end
of the spectrum on this,
but the one in the locker
that I would always bring around
is like,
would you rather suck a dick
or take it in the ass.
Come on.
And it felt like the black dudes
would always say,
give head.
And the white dudes were more taking the ass.
Nobody.
It was answering this question.
I promise, bro.
You couldn't get out of the way.
You're getting there stretched.
There's no worry for you to go on my handbrainal, bro.
Come on, man.
I'm about to give you this question.
Gun to your head, you have to pick one.
Obviously, this isn't.
Take my life.
You're not in the moment, you're thinking like,
this isn't going to be on a podcast.
So you're,
night before a game,
all the boys are kind of stretching,
rolling out, hanging out.
Yeah.
Guys were answering.
They're whispering in your ear.
Yeah.
Preston Smith, a teammate of yours.
Yeah.
Bad body baller.
Bad body baller.
he uh he we i had him cornered doing it one time and he would not answer i'm like hey you have to answer
and he called his mom to get the answer what what this one was more this what that's the
worst time i said that up wrong i said that up wrong i also said like if not your your family dies
like you get killed he's like i'm telling you right now i'm killing my entire family or i'm killing
my mom he's like i'm calling mama she's like you better not suck that dick oh no shit you better
put a gun on my he's like see i try telling you come
You say, all right, love you, Mom.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Appreciate it, my, thank you.
Thank you, Mom.
Oh, my God.
So I guess we're not answering these questions.
Oh, are we?
This is getting real twisted.
Yeah, it gets a little awkward with the twisted questions.
I mean, I'm doing Dix for fingers just quickly if I could just get my answer out.
Just combined a both. Dixers' fingers, put the Cheeto dust on my, on my penises.
My penises.
See, I don't know.
I think I might take the swamp ass over the dust.
No, I'm taking the dust.
even said skid marks and stuff too.
Yeah, is it just always a sweat?
Because I got a little swamp ass right now.
It's getting a little hot on this bus.
You kind of just, it feels like you probably always have kind of like a shard.
It's a little bit uncomfortable.
But dude, I don't know.
I can shower pretty often.
When you have like honey on your fingers and you just, I hate that feeling.
I hate that feeling.
Number one, it's a terrible question.
It is a terrible question.
It is a terrible question.
Yeah, I feel bad for Twisted Tea.
They pay good money to sponsor this segment.
There were any questions like that.
That's been the.
worst one I've had in maybe a month.
Okay, four weeks strong, Mitch.
Thank you.
Thank you for that.
Thank you for choosing me to have the worst one.
That's crazy.
You see what we deal with here?
What?
That sort of accountability?
Yeah.
But it's been good, hasn't it?
I mean, look at him.
He shaved his face.
It looks insane.
Yeah.
You got to bring your beer back, bro.
Because I'm keeping it for the summer.
I doubt he'll keep it for the summer.
Bro, this has been a phenomenal podcast.
Yeah, you're awesome.
We appreciate you, bro.
I appreciate you all having me, man.
You have fun?
It took a wild turn at the end.
It did.
Are you okay?
It got a little twisted.
It got a little turbulent.
It's usually what happens.
But man, thank you for coming on.
I think this was phenomenal.

like, I got nothing going on right now. What are you interested in outside of ball?
Talk about establishing the next 20 years. Like, what are things that are-
I love, I love the business of sports. I love the game, obviously. I'm starting.
to dabble into the broadcasting thing, just getting a little feel for it.
I don't know.
You know, investing, like, that's a big piece of life for me.
And when I say that in some different companies and different things, so I'm just trying
to find that next facet.
Trying to find that next facet.
Yeah, it gets sparks interest.
So I'm playing seeds right now, seeing what grows.
Any interest in the podcast game?
I mean, I don't know enough about it.
I mean, I enjoyed this today, but, you know, I don't know.
I'm not opposed to it, but I'm, you know.
I just heard you mentioned the broadcasting system.
I don't want to be a little buttoned up or if you want to kick back.
And I'm open.
I can button up.
I can keep it relaxed like this.
You got range.
Yeah, he's got range.
I mean, we'll see.
We'll see.
I'm not, I'm here.
Like I said, playing Cs.
We'll see what happens.
All right.
Speaking of range, who's a better actor, Will Smith or Denzel Washington?
Denzel.
Denzel.
As far as range goes?
As far as range goes?
Okay.
You like Will?
All right.
You like Will?
Yeah, I think I give it to Will.
You give it to Will because I think Will does a better job with like comedy.
And then I think Denzel is a better serious actor.
Yeah.
I think the stuff that Denzel is in I like more than what I've seen Will in, but as far as range goes, I'm going Will over Denzel.
I think that.
You can't go wrong with either one.
No, no.
Phenomenal actors, both.
Yeah.
If you had to watch.
If you had to watch somebody for the rest of your.
Denzel.
Better movies.
Better quality movies.
Better movies.
I mean, you seen John Q?
Remember the Titans?
That thing hits it from being a father.
For the third time.
Yeah. That's a third callback.
Even the, what are the ones he's been doing, the action once?
Equalizer.
Equalizer.
I haven't seen them.
Those you've seen Equalizer.
What was he in with Jared Leto?
There was a movie came out in Netflix where he's like a cop.
That Denzel's in it?
Yeah, Denzel is in it.
The dude that placed Freddie Mercury is in it.
And then Jared Leto is like the suspect.
Oh shit.
Oh, I think I know what you're talking about.
New movie?
New movie.
It's on Netflix.
I've seen it.
Well, Jared Leto's like the...
He's like the killer.
Yeah, or it could be the killer.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I know what you're talking about.
But yeah, he's selling that too.
All right, let's wrap this thing up, huh?
Yeah, man.
