Starting point is 00:00:10 Hello, my love. Welcome to the Busy Yet Pretty Podcast. I'm your host, Jeanne Haley. In the show, we talk all about becoming the best version of you, living your dream life, and ultimately, everything about being happy and self-love, self-care, all feminine things. But without further ado, let's get into today's episode. Today we're going to talk about my favorite style and aesthetic at the moment. And it has been one of my favorites, I feel like since I was younger, but I feel like I really pinpointed it lately what I've been loving and that is just a feminine farmhouse look and it's very ties into the shabby chic style love shack fancy martha stewer ina garden all of that and it truly just leaves me feeling so happy classy inspirational and I feel like a
Starting point is 00:00:56 lot of you guys understand that look right now very new england cape cod esk ralph lawrence style and I'm so excited to talk about that today but first off let's get into our weekly review. This week, I have been in my ludial phase, and let's just say when I am in my ludial phase, I am proudly a bottomless pit. I will be eating everything in sight. My cravings have been all over the place, and let me tell you, when you haven't had your period for a few years, there is nothing better than actually getting that feeling like, wait, I'm having period symptoms,
Starting point is 00:01:31 like I'm having crazy cravings and everything. So it's super nice to be able to almost enjoy. the negative parts of having a period because overall when you don't have something, you don't realize how much you want it when you don't, when you don't have it. I mean, when you don't have something, you realize then how much you want it. And then when you get it back, it just feels that much more meaningful and just sacred. So I have been loving having my period back, my menstrual cycle, and I'm feeling good and definitely want to do an episode on how I naturally got my period back as well. Another crab session at the moment is redecorating. I feel like every year we all love to
Starting point is 00:02:09 just to redecorate our space because it feels like a new space, a new fresh mind, a new year, and it feels super nice and just organized. And lastly for the weekly review is I have really just trying to dial into my 2025 goals. I have really been just looking back at my vision board and trying to take each goal I have on my vision board and breaking those goals down into bite-sized goals as we talked about on last episode. Now on to the current obsessions. My current obsession at the moment is Nancy Myers and specifically my Nancy Myers playlist I made, which is just a playlist of a ton of different songs that just make me feel like I'm in a Nancy Myers movie. It's on my Spotify, by the way, so if you want some music inspo to play throughout the day, I definitely recommend it
Starting point is 00:02:56 if you like this style. Another current obsession at the moment is press on French tip nails. I have been doing press on nails lately and i am amazed how long they have lasted they've lasted almost two weeks and i'm honestly becoming a press on nail girl first off they're really nice because you can change them out throughout the months and the weeks so you don't have to stick to one style and two they're really inexpensive and a lot less time wasted and time going to the nail salon in money going to the nail salon if that's something that you're not very fond of doing and my last current obsession at the moment is the Ina Garden memoir. It is truly beautiful. I am obsessed. I listen to the audiobook version and it was so inspirational and it's something that I really, really recommend you listen to. It's
Starting point is 00:03:45 perfect for those who feel like they kind of are lost in their career and it just is so empowering. Now on to the goal of the week. My goal of the week right now is to continue decluttering. Again, entering the new year. It's very important we declutter to open up our space and our minds and our lives into new and better things. Another goal of the week is to plan monthly intentions. I did this kind of last year and I found it really helpful, but kind of breaking down my goals for per month. So by this month, I want to do this. And then it's going to be able to help you schedule out your weeks better. So what goal of the week you have to achieve your monthly goal, to achieve your yearly goal. And it's kind of like assist them to help you achieve your main goals
Starting point is 00:04:29 for the year. In my last goal of the week right now is to incorporate more mineral salt into my water for electrolytes. I just find myself so much more awake and hydrated feeling when I add salt into my water, specifically pink Himalayan salt or Celtic sea salt. So I definitely want to start doing that more. Now on to your self-love question. How do you see yourself in the eyes of your younger self? I love that question so much because sometimes we can reflect, but we reflect from who you are now on our past selves, but instead we kind of want to go back into our younger self and think, what would our younger self think about us right now and how we're living our life? And it really just puts things into perspective to see, are you living your life the way you would have
Starting point is 00:05:14 always wanted to? And are you living the life that truly makes you happy and are not being so sucked into the thought of what other people are thinking or trying to please anyone else. Now on to your affirmation. I am grateful for my future ahead of me, but most of importantly, the present. I love that affirmation so much and I really recommend journaling that. Now on to your challenge of the week. Find a friend to start a challenge to work on your goals together and that's going to allow you both to encourage each other on achieving your goals. I love that so much because it's really nice when you have someone else to motivate you and you can motivate them back and really it becomes a really nice power duo into both chasing
Starting point is 00:05:54 your goals and getting progress done. Now into the podcast review. If you're you want to be featured on next week's episode, make sure to leave a review over Apple podcast, rate over Spotify, and also there's a new update over Spotify where you can actually leave comments over each episode, and you guys can kind of chat with each other in that chat. And also, of course, we have the broadcast channel over Instagram that you guys can communicate with each other and meet each other over there. Back to what I was saying, let's go on to the podcast review. This review says, this podcast has changed my life and made me become.
Starting point is 00:06:29 the best version of myself. This is by far my favorite podcast. You are so inspiring and sweet and I love how you cover all different topics from skincare to self-care. You were such an inspiration, motivation, and a friend, and I love all your episodes. I can't wait to hear more. Thank you so much for all you do, Jaden. Love a Golden Class Girl. My love, thank you so much for your sweetest review, and I'm so unbelievably grateful that Busy Yet Pretty has been able to help motivate you on your journey, and I'm so glad to be a part of that journey. I love you with all my heart. And guys, without further ado,
Starting point is 00:07:03 it's time to talk about today's episode, which is Feminine Farmhouse, Moodboard, style aesthetic. The style that I feel like many of us are loving right now, very shabby, chic, love shack fancy, Ina garden, Martha Stewart, inspired, Cape Cod, Ralph Lauren. I'm trying to, like, hit every pinpoint. It's truly just the classiest, most stunning, chic aesthetic,
Starting point is 00:07:26 and I'm really excited to get into it. So let's start off by saying that I have been so inspired lately with just home decor, wardrobe, lifestyle surrounding this specific style. And I thought how I loved it so much and it's only fair of me to put you busy at pretty babes on it too. Something that I will never do is geek keep.
Starting point is 00:07:47 It just is not me. I don't care to gatekeep. If I like something, I will proudly tell someone else that they want to know because if I like something, I want to be on board too. So I got to get you guys on my favorite style right now. Let's do a deep dive into the style. So let's start off by saying shabby chic.
Starting point is 00:08:06 I feel like that phrase of a style I did not like growing up. I don't know what it was, but like my younger self did not like hearing the phrase shabby chic. And I feel like we all kind of denied that that was our style until now when we actually realize, wait, our style is actually sometimes shabby. So I feel like we all kind of hated that name forever, but we have just come to terms that that is our style. We are shabby chic. Currently to embrace that style, I think of ruffles, skirts, pink pastels, cable-knit sweaters, and bed skirts. Just having that like vintage, girly girl feminine style. A very random thing, but I feel like this ties really well into that style.
Starting point is 00:08:49 It's just like baking and baking any type of things, but specifically baking biscuits. and sourdough bread, scones, and drinking tea. Just that really inspires that entire look. And if you know Nancy Myers and know her type of films that she puts out, it is just the most gorgeous style. And I really recommend one of my personal favorite Nancy Meyer movies that I feel like gives the best style inspo is something's got to give. It just is so beautiful from ruffle skirt chairs to hydrangeas,
Starting point is 00:09:22 living in a very Cape Cod inspired home. Some people kind of refer to the style as a coastal grandmother or coastal granddaughter. But to me, this style is not just a style where physically you're staying an outfit or a bed skirt. And of course, it goes along with that, but I feel like the Nancy Myers style is more almost as a lifestyle. Just having that golden girl confidence and the golden girl of just wanting to enjoy your life, living in the present and doing a lot of farm-to-table activities and just enjoying your life, not taking things so seriously. And what I love about this is I feel like it kind of puts the breaks on hustle culture. Doesn't stop being businesslike. Like I feel like if you know Ina Garden, you know
Starting point is 00:10:08 she is a very feminine tea party lady who is the best woman so inspiring, but also at the same time, she stands on business. And I think that is so inspiring. So kind of laying off her. cultural and embracing femininity, but at the same time, knowing your worth and being your own advocate and standing on business, knowing how to operate a business, knowing how to get to work and dial in. I think there was nothing more beautiful. There's so many beautiful things, but there's nothing more beautiful than someone who embraces their feminine side, but at the same time, will stand on business. You think of businesses and honestly so many different jobs, and if you realize a lot are very male-dominated industries.
Starting point is 00:10:55 And of course, for years, in many years, this has trying to be broken and trying to show that women can do everything and anything that a man can do. And that is 100% for sure. So I just love the thought of being able to have tea times in the morning. Yet at lunchtime, you were in your office having your meeting and knowing how to stand on business. I feel like the Ina Garden memoir really just replicates the. that gorgeously and her story. I loved it. But anyways, back to the more visual style of this aesthetic. I feel like very shabby chic, of course, as I was saying, very love shack fancy, inspired. And tying along with this, I think a blowout and layered hair is so beautiful.
Starting point is 00:11:40 Having your hair done, making it feel light and fluffy and gorgeous and silky, just ties so beautifully into the style. Same with turtlenecks. Again, sorry, not to mention another Nancy Myers movie, but if you watch something's got to give, you can tell Diane Kean, she wore a turtleneck in almost all the scenes. And I just think turtlenecks are so classy, and you can look so sexy even in a turtleneck. I love it. I feel like shabby, shake, and Love Shack Fancy embodies gold jewelry perfectly by just having those beaded bracelets. I feel like the Cape Cod, New England style bracelets from what I have seen, that that's kind of what they're called, are really sold there. And a lot of people wear those there. So I
Starting point is 00:12:21 just think they are so beautiful. Same with gold cuffs. I think they're just so stunning. And Drift Avenue also does a great job at embracing this minimal style. But let's skip past Drift Avenue just because the recent stuff that has come about that and I don't know too much about it. But from what I have heard, I do not condone any negativity towards treating your staff because that is your family.
Starting point is 00:12:48 But anyways, moving on, I tend to lean towards. this style a lot because I really admire the Scandinavian Copenhagen style I think it's so classy and feminine yet minimal there's something about finding staple timeless pieces that are both comfortable yet flattering I feel like this year we're trying to do a lot of quality over quantity maybe that's just me but I really am trying to do a lot of quality over quantity for my clothes and for home decor everything because one if you're gonna think of that mindset and try to do quality over quantity.
Starting point is 00:13:23 That's going to save you money because you're going to start shopping less. And two, you're going to have a more clear mind by not bringing all these different things in to make your house feel cluttery. And three, it's going to allow you to enjoy what you really, really love by just picking out and choosing what you like the most and not just trying to buy, buy, buy. But let's be real, we're all guilty of it. I am very guilty of being a home goods shopper and we'll leave the cart of stuff every time. but it's something that I feel like we're all trying to work on this year. Another thing that I think is really beautifully in, and don't get me wrong, I love a short mini skirt,
Starting point is 00:13:58 but something I really do think is just so clean, classy, and minimal is long skirts, whether it's a denim skirt or a flowy skirt or a silk skirt. Skirts or a plaid skirt, skirts that are long and just go to your ankles are so stunning, and sometimes ones that are more drag on just, the floor or two where you have to have you kind of have to pick them up when you walk give such an elegant and confident look to you the funny thing is a lot of times people think oh you get more compliments when you wear more skimpier things and don't get me wrong i love a cute old skimpy
Starting point is 00:14:37 outfit i really do but i have just been loving just being almost fully covered up where i will wear a turtleneck and a long skirt and the funny thing is i will leave the house getting more compliments wearing that and of course i'm not caring for the compliments but if you are someone who kind of does think what do other people view of what i'm wearing or what are other people thinking that just goes to show that it does not matter what you're wearing it doesn't matter if you're fully covered up or fully wearing a bathing suit out it all has to do with your confidence because when you are confident and have clothes that flatter you and make you feel like this is your look and you feel confident in this look is when you will radiate that confidence and will portray that to others and people will see that.
Starting point is 00:15:22 And when we talk about styles, I think it's so funny and interesting because I come off very girly and feminine. I always have been very girly and feminine, but some like some of my past styles when I was younger around like high school time, I used to love dressing very all and black, not goth at all. I would say more of like punk. I would dress very like punk and I would have a brand I used to have called fairy punk and it was both feminine but punk style I loved going to concerts being in the mosh pit I think it's so nice to always change and evolve and every stage of your life is beautiful so even if this is your style right now or if it's you have a certain style in mind that you love in right now embrace it wear it with confidence because that's how you
Starting point is 00:16:10 feel right now and you want to not reject how you're feeling if you like something if you don't like the style, don't wear this stuff. If you like a certain style that is completely opposite than what everyone else is wearing, wear it. It doesn't matter. All that matters is you like what you're doing and people will find your outfit cute when you have your confidence with it because confidence is the most beautiful outfit you could ever wear. And let's be real. No, everyone is so into themselves and caring about themselves. They're not even thinking about you. So do what you love and don't think about other people. Back to what I was saying. When it comes to this lifestyle, again, I feel like this is not just a style, but a lifestyle. But having a skincare routine and a self-care routine, have that as a hobby
Starting point is 00:16:58 and as a required part of your schedule. It's easy to put it off to the back of your schedule and make it a hobby, make it interesting where you want to do it and it's not a chore to do it. So make it interesting and really schedule out that time because I promise you it's so easy to skip past doing nice things for yourself such as taking time to do self-care or taking a nap, watching TV, doing little things like that or working out eating healthy. But I promise you all those little things that you do for yourself that show love to yourself add up and they are going to pay dividends in the future. So when you have your self-care routine, light a candle, get a comfy robe on, and put on some relaxing music or jazz in the background while you gouache your face
Starting point is 00:17:43 and take tips of your tea and your cute little teacup and just be mindful and thought out with what you do with your time to just really be present. I can't be the only one who has this like dream item of theirs that they always see whether it's a bag, a sweater, a top and you're like, I just need that but it's like sold out everywhere. That's me with this one vintage Duny and Burke bag. I literally was looking everywhere for it and I somehow found one on a poshmark. But not just one. I found multiple of them at such a good price and I was like, wait, this is just too good to be true.
Starting point is 00:18:22 So if you know me, you know I am a poshmark girl. Poshmark is a marketplace where you can list and sell as well as buy new items, vintage pieces, gently used, luxury pieces. They really just have it all. And I feel like there's no better time to go on Poshmark now. Everyone's cleaning out their closet and listing good things. Get in bed, get cozy, and go in Poshmark to add to your new spring wardrobe. New deals and sales are listed every day, so don't wait.
Starting point is 00:18:47 Download the Poshmark app and use code busy when you sign up to get $10 off your first purchase. Or shop now at Pashmark.com slash busy and get $10 off your first purchase. That's P-O-S-H-M-A-R-K.com slash busy. I can't be the only one who has this like dream item of theirs that they always see, whether it's a bag, a sweater, a top, and you're like, I just need that, but it's like so, out everywhere. That's me with this one vintage Duny and brick bag. I literally was looking everywhere for it and I somehow found one on a poshmark but not just one I found multiple of them at such a good price and I was like wait this is just too good to be true. So if you know me you know
Starting point is 00:19:35 I am a poshmark girl. Poshmark is a marketplace where you can list and sell as well as buy new items vintage pieces gently used luxury pieces they really just have it all and I feel like there's no better time to go on Poshmark now. Everyone's cleaning out their closet and listing good things. Get in bed, get cozy, and go in Pashmark to add to your new spring wardrobe. New deals and sales are listed every day, so don't wait. Download the Poshmark app and use code Bizzy when you sign up to get $10 off your first purchase or shop now at Pashmark.com slash busy and get $10 off your first purchase. That's P-O-S-H-M-A-R-K.com slash busy. And anytime I say mindful, I just feel like I'm
Starting point is 00:20:20 saying the word demure. I feel like you also saw that demure video and that's what I feel like anytime I say be mindful. But another part of this lifestyle that really embodies that overall feeling is being careful with yourself and prioritizing you. Again, like I said, it is so easy to put your needs and you to the back burner and put things ahead of you, whether that's school, work, a significant other, your family, your children. And in order to perform the best, in your job and your school and support the people you love the most, you have to support yourself first. It's almost like the reference where you say you can't love anyone else
Starting point is 00:21:01 until you love yourself. And also, my favorite reference to think of this is when you get on a plane, they advise mothers and parents to put their mask on first if there was an emergency on the plane and then give the mask to your children because you cannot properly assist somebody else until you assist yourself. And same goes with this shabby chic and very classy feminine farmhouse style is know you're worth an ad tax.
Starting point is 00:21:30 And that be in every scenario in life. It's so important to treasure yourself and love yourself. And also back to what I was saying about being feminine and also at the same time being a quote girl boss, Martha Stewart also showed this very well in her career as well where in the Martha Stewart documentary I watched, She really just shows how all her feminine sides of her cooking and baking and farmed table, yet not afraid to tackle anything, very business-oriented, and does not allow anyone to walk on her. Don't get me wrong, I do know there is some talk of Martha not being the nicest person. And especially with her career path that she first started in with finance,
Starting point is 00:22:10 I definitely can see how she can be rough on the edges. But it is extremely important that you realize your worth and know that you should be your own. advocate and at that same time you can also be very feminine and be very dainty and have those both of those treats at the same time back to prioritizing you this dream girl feminine farmhouse style applies to food as well so taking care of yourself counts as baking and eating your baked goods and your sweet treats and listening to your body and enjoying it guilt-free we are so obligated to feel guilty after we indulge in something that we enjoy. With societal standards with body image and everything and body standards, we have negative relationships with food and our body image because
Starting point is 00:23:00 of what we hear from outside noise, but let me remind you, this is you at the end of the day. You are living your life for you and I promise you that you should not be feeling guilty about anything you eat because, number one, your body needs it. Whatever it is, even if it's not nutritionally healthy for you and doesn't have vitamins or if it's even the most processed food, it doesn't matter. Your body is still thanking you because your body needs calories to take you throughout the day, to be able to have a weakness and be happy and enjoy and walk around. Never feel guilty for giving yourself love. Eating your favorite chocolate cake is self-care. Sitting down and having a movie night and eating all your favorite sweets,
Starting point is 00:23:45 is self-care. Guess what? A golden-class girl and a girl who loves ourselves is not going to beat herself up. And don't give me wrong. We're all guilty of it. I'm guilty of it. You are. Your friends are. We're all guilty of getting times where we have guilt of something that we overage or have guilt about something. But let me just remind you that we are all human. We're here to enjoy life and not to be hard on ourselves. And there's a difference between being disciplined and being extremely hard on yourself to where you're not even enjoying life. So be disciplined and have balance, but at the same time, allow yourself to enjoy what you truly love. We are not here on earth to beat herself up, nor are we here on earth to restrict ourselves from everything. So let me remind you,
Starting point is 00:24:31 the best version of you provides for herself and is kind to herself. But okay, back to what I was saying about the style. When it comes to baking, baking is definitely one of those feminine farmhouse style things to do and very farm to table baking banana bread for breakfast or going to bake some biscuits for the afternoon enjoying some biscuits and tea time just having those little moments away from your phone and really tapping into that almost like homemaker style i think is so beautiful being able to be mindful with living in the present and not rushing is a luxurious mindset to have many times we feel like we tend to be in a rush with enjoying things we love. So we'll rush fast or we have to think we have to get to the next thing.
Starting point is 00:25:18 But I need to remind you that there is no rush. You are okay. Slow down and begin to just relax. You have to relax and it is hard and you may actually have tasks to get to. But let me remind you, the world's not going to end if everything doesn't get done. Things will be okay. So relax your shoulders when you listen to this. and just take a breath.
Starting point is 00:25:41 And when it comes to doing the farm to table style of food and baking, it's so nice to do a lot of organic activities, such as homemaking, sourdough baking, cooking, decorating, bike riding, going on a walk, flower picking, going around farms. So those are some really nice things to do to really just connect with nature and connect with yourself. To fully embody that feminine farmhouse, shabby-cheek style look, I feel like it really leans onto the natural no makeup makeup looks or no makeup at all.
Starting point is 00:26:14 And I think Pamela Anderson does a gorgeous job at doing that. I love a fresh face makeup look. And don't get me wrong, I love makeup. But an everyday makeup, it's sometimes nicer to lean into a fresh face to feel really natural. But whatever makes you feel the happiest, do that because that's going to make you feel the happiest and feel your best. If you have a good size yard, I really encourage you to plant a garden. And if you don't, that's totally okay. And you can also buy little mini in-home garden plants that you can plant inside your kitchen or your room to kind of get some little fresh plants and herbs.
Starting point is 00:26:54 But it feels really nice to have some fresh produce feeling like and just having that again, nature garden feel. Okay. Now, if you really want to embody the shabby chic look leaning onto that Cape Cod. aesthetic and not just have a style but a lifestyle to be inspired by again watch the Nancy Myers movies I think they're just the perfect definition of this style executed through movies and in those movies have a lot of style just place through fashion and the lifestyle and also just the storyline and of course the home decor same with Ina Gardens aesthetic she is just the perfect definition of
Starting point is 00:27:33 feminine farmhouse with tea time hostess, yes, stands on business. Love a woman who embodies femininity, can never say that word, feminine side while being a businesswoman. Another beautiful thing that goes really well with the style is pinsteroids, gingham, longchamp bags are so beautiful. I think French tips are so gorgeous and the perfect touch to achieve any look in your home is to add hydrangeas. Hydrangeas are so beautiful and the most perfect flower to add to give that coastal feel to your home. Toily wallpaper, bed sheets, comforters are so stunning, along with, of course, bed skirts, chair skirts, couch skirts.
Starting point is 00:28:19 Also love the Ralph Lauren style. Leaning into almost like a light Barbie pink, sage greens, blues, clog shoes, rain boots, ruffles, lace, and just frills. If you want to wake up every morning feeling preppy, feminine, as if you woke up in a Nancy Meyer's movie, always buy yourself flowers. So that being hydrangeas, peonies, baby's breath, just buying yourself flowers is going to make you happier every single day when you wake up seeing those flowers. It has some liveliness in your home. And it also just feels so nice and comforting and is the perfect way to promote self-care to yourself. But let's be real, it is truly amazing how stemmed.
Starting point is 00:29:04 can give such character in a room. This style doesn't necessarily embody this thing, but I do want to say I feel like being more minimal is very important for your mindset, and that's something that I'm really trying to work on this year since I'm a proud maximalist, but really trying to practice being more minimal and practice under consumption.
Starting point is 00:29:26 This is the most annoying thing to hear from a creator because this is the best problem to have, and I'm so beyond grateful for everything, But it is hard to practice under consumption when I am sent so many amazing, gorgeous products and packages every week, which is why anytime I have way too much stuff or I'm consuming all this products that I don't need, I will definitely give it to my audience giveaways or like I just hosted to busy at pretty events. And I love to give out anything I don't use over there because my favorite thing is to give and share. And that's something that you should also practice doing.
Starting point is 00:30:04 If you don't need something, give it away, share it with someone else because one woman's trash is another woman's treasure. But back to what I was saying, under consumption and just that luxury minimalist mindset will always allow you to begin seeing buying and consumption in a different point of view. And it's going to be more quality over quantity. So it's probably going to save you some money. And it's going to remind you that you don't need everything. And it can allow you to have more room to bring in the things you really, do love and that really, really mean to you. So that's one of my big intentions for 2025. But another way to embody this style is most of all to romanticize your life. And I know you're thinking, weren't we
Starting point is 00:30:46 just talking about romanticizing our life? But I mean romanticizing your life overall. So that being every single part of your day. Even the most boring parts of your day should be romanticized. So that's being school, work, whatever it is, make time to enjoy it. A golden class girl, always finds the positive in every negative and I promise you you're going to start living happier, healthier, and just enjoying life more when you look at it from this point of view. I have lots of mindset episodes if you need some help on how to start thinking this way. But anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed this episode as much as I did recording it.
