Hello, my dolls. Welcome back to the Busy Yet Pretty Podcast. I'm your host, Jaden Haley. This episode is an episode that was requested, and I'm really excited because I'm starting to take a little more episode request and every single episode that is a requested episode. I will let you guys know the name of the person who requested it. And thanks to Nora, today's episode's going to be all about FOMO, which is the fear of missing out. So without further ado, let's get first,
into the weekly review. This week I went back home to go just take things slow and spend time with
my cat who is laying with me right now while I'm recording. And something else this week is I've been
really just trying to listen to my mind, body, soul, heart with whatever I'm needing at this moment
in my life. So really just trying to take time to slow down and really just listen to my needs.
I'm someone who loves to work and I just have a lot of passion in working and productive. So
even if that means me forcing myself to slow down to take time on self-care, then that's what I need to do.
Now on to the current obsessions. My current obsession right now is tofu. I am a tofu girl. I love it.
It's literally one of my favorite sources of protein. And another current obsession right now is yoga pants.
Is that anything new? No, I love a good, flared, waist folded yoga pant. Another current obsession at the moment is a morning.
walk. I've been taking morning walks with my mom and it just is such a great way to start the day off
and to really think about your intentions of the day. Another current obsession for me right now is
berry salads. I love adding strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, golden berries. I forgot the
exact name of the berry, but I love just a nice berry salad. It's so divine and really just gets
me in the mood for summer. Oh, and then if you ever eat berry salad, I'm just, you ever eat berry salad.
really try adding cucumber to it.
It just takes it to the next level.
It's so good.
Now to the goal of the week.
My goal of the week right now is evening meditations to wind down.
As much as I love the thought of morning meditation and I try and I do love it,
but it just is not the same as evening meditation.
I feel like in the morning I'm very just wired up and stressed and I really, really
cannot dial down to meditate.
So I feel like that should be really prioritized in the evening.
Another goal week right now is to begin praying more.
As you guys may know, I went to a private school and it was not a good experience whatsoever when I was in high school.
Many mean homophobic, racist comments that would just come from the teachers and, of course, the kids at the school.
And that really just changed my mind on religion.
And it left me with a negative relationship towards my spirituality with, like, religion and everything.
So right now I keep trying to remind myself that.
religion is not what was said at the school those are just personal comments made by those people and that's not really what religion is and spirituality is so I'm just gonna take time to just build my own relationship with God aside from any religion and just take time to pray because I'm a really spiritual person when it comes to manifestation in the universe but just adding in more prayer would be really helpful I went off on a tangent right there but if anyone can relate on that let
me know and I'd love to hear what you love to do when it comes to praying.
Okay, now getting into another thing this week is I really want to try doing more messy buns.
I love a good messy bun, especially in the summer and I feel like every year I just pick
a hairstyle and I get fixated on it.
So I want to get my new fixated summer hairstyle and I can feel this year is going to be a
really cute up done bun.
Now on to the affirmation.
Your affirmation of the week is, my head.
health is my number one priority. I love that affirmation so much because it really just shows how
important it is to take time for your health and how your health is the main factor in that stems
out everything in your life. Now moving on to the self-love question. Where do I see myself six
months from now? I love that question so much because it really allows you to think and I really
recommend journaling it. Now on to your challenge of the week, the challenge for you is I want you to
speak any type of positive thought that you're feeling or thinking about somebody and let them know.
Voicing positivity to somebody about what you think about them honestly can be such a help in that
person's life. You never know what somebody's going through. And I just go throughout that with my
daily life and I just see how much it helps somebody because I bet you have been at the lowest
point of your life before and somebody has complimented you and that probably just changed so much
for your day. Now on to the podcast review. This review is from Brianna and Brianna said,
this podcast gave me so, so much motivation this week. Finals are super close and studying is absolutely
dreaming me. But I feel like I have the motivation to keep going. Brianna, I am so beyond
proud of you and I'm just so glad that you had the motivation from the podcast to just push forward
and that you got this. You should be so proud of yourself and I bet you did a great job on the
finals. Thank you so much for your podcast review and if you want to be featured on next week's
episode, please feel free to leave a podcast review over Apple Podcasts. Now, the moment we've been
waiting for, let's get into today's episode, FOMO, Fear of Missing Out. Every single one of us
have experienced FOMO many times in our life, okay? And when I mean all of us, I mean your friends,
your significant other, your parents, your entire family, the entire.
city, the entire world. Everybody experiences FOMO with summer right around the corner,
which is also known as the season of having many plans. I think it's very important to discuss this
topic and just how you can turn your FOMO into Jomo, which is joy of missing out. It is so easy
to want what you don't have. You could have a full on list of everything that you want and are wanting,
but when is the last time that you actually thought about what you currently have and what life would be if you didn't have those things?
What I'm trying to get at here is sometimes we forget to just stop and be grateful.
It's like the quote, stop and smell the roses, where our mind is constantly chasing something that we want and forget to just look at what's right in front of us.
Sometimes we forget to just stop, be grateful rather than jump to the next thing that we're wanting that we don't have.
There are a few ways that you could be experiencing phomo.
So let's get into the first way the fear of missing out occurs.
Number one, we have no control over the situation.
And what I mean by that is you were not invited to what you're wanting to go to.
Or maybe you just don't have enough money to go where you're wanting to go.
Regardless, you don't have a choice.
You cannot go.
It's essential you come to terms with the fact that you will never attend and be invited to or go to everything.
That is the simple matter of fact.
as well as you will never be able to attend, get invited to, or go to everything that your friends go to, or that your family goes to.
There will be times where you may feel singled out.
There will be times where you have no choice but to skip that sleepover that you were invited to because you have to watch your little sister that night.
Or maybe you can't go to Coachella because the tickets are too pricey.
As infuriating as it is, and I promise you, I've been there, we've all been there and feeling just, we're missing.
out on something we want to go to so bad, but we can't, we can't. We have no control over the
situation. But as infuriating as it feels at that moment, you need to look at the situation
in a big picture and realize it is not the end of the world. That may be cliche, but it
truly just helps the situation on how you view it. Seriously, why make things harder for yourself
by complaining, fussing, crying about the situation that you can't go to something? When you have no
control over the situation and life moves on. Life moves on. Move on the same wavelength as the time of
life. Don't stay stuck on a situation in the past and dwell on it, leaving you behind. Flow with the
time of life and continue pushing forward and keep going. FOMO is a very easy feeling that everybody gets.
It's in our human nature to feel something. So when something happens and we're unable to go to
something we want, we do have the fear of missing out. But stop trying to fix something that you
already can't control because the situation's not changing. The only thing that you have the
opportunity of changing is how you view the situation and how you're going to feel from here
on out. Are you going to feel sad and still wishing that you went to that thing? Or are you going to
move on and look at the next best thing? Now onto FOMO type 2. That being, you can control the
situation and you have the choice to go or to not go. An example,
being you were invited to a party, but you're trying to figure out if you should go or not.
But you're getting the fear of missing out if you don't go. Or maybe you have the opportunity
to go buy this certain handbag that's trending right now. But it is a little pricey. You can
afford it, but you still are unsure about it. But your fear of missing out is kicking in. So you feel
obligated to buy it. So many times in our life, we will make plans or plan to go to something,
but last minute we have a feeling that maybe you don't care to go anymore or you get this intuition
that it doesn't feel right for you to go. I honestly get that very often where something just
doesn't feel right for me to go. And I'm on the fence for it for literally a day before, just hours and
hours before the plans, but I'm on the fence of staying home. And that could be something where you feel
maybe you're tired or you're not feeling your best or that you've been lacking sleep and you just
want to stay home. Or maybe you want to go, but it's too big of a risk to go because you have too much
work to do. But the fear of missing out may kick in for you days before something that you were
planning to go to or right before. But you may just shut off your intuition, shut off your feelings and
your needs and just decide to give into the FOMO because you're truly scared of missing out.
It's human nature to fear of missing out because we crave joy in our life. We want to have a fun time.
We want to go to the next best thing. We want to always feel good and feel in the circle and in the loop.
But sometimes joy comes in a different form and that form of joy may be right in front of you.
What I mean by that is you're thinking maybe the form of joy for you is going but you don't really feel like going.
Again, FOMO is kicking in, so you're just going to go.
But the actual form of joy for you may be a self-care night, an early night in, watching TV, and going to bed early.
Just because everyone is going to something does not mean you have to go.
I remember the time I had a really bad headache, and I was supposed to go to this event with my friend,
and it was to go to, like, a Paris Hilton's new product launch with a hair company, and I was like, oh, it would be so fun to meet her.
But honestly, I just had a headache and I really just did not feel like going.
Honestly, the typical form of joy anyone would think is go to the event and go see Pierce Hilton.
But no, my form of joy at that moment was literally staying in bed because I didn't feel good.
That's what I mean by.
Joy really does come in different forms.
So in result, fear of missing out, FOMO, is in the past and Joy of Missing Out, aka Jomo, is in.
You have to start realizing that life is not about quantity.
It's not about how many parties can you go to, how many friend dates can you go on, how many trips can you go on, how many new trending items can you own.
It's not about quantity.
Life is really about quality.
When you're invited to something, it's especially easy to want to take each opportunity up on its offer and just go, especially if your friends are going or your family's going.
But it's important to pick and choose what you want to go to, to choose.
truly live a balanced, healthy lifestyle. Take yourself out of the situation and look at the big
picture. If you have the option to attend something, begin to ask yourself these three questions.
Do I want to go? Am I going for myself? Or am I going because I feel obligated? Is me going going to
add to my life or take away from my life? It may seem cliche to ask yourself these three questions,
but it really, really can help you reflect, especially in that moment where you're feeling under pressure of
trying to finalize an answer if you should go or not.
Sometimes your needs are right in front of you, like I said, and that's staying home.
And if you decide to not go, remember to yourself, the route of you going and you not going
and big picture will result in the same situation for your life.
It's not a big deal.
You're going to be alive.
You're going to still have the same color hair.
You're going to still have the same family.
Nothing's changing.
There is nothing so drastic why you need to go or why you need to stay home.
It doesn't matter. We waste a lot of time going back and forth in our mind or just dwelling on something in the past when it's not worth it. You're wasting precious time of your life on something that does not matter. And I like to believe where if I miss something out and I get a little foam-mo and see, oh, dang it. I could have gone and had fun, but I decided to stay home. I always know that it's okay. There's a reason why I didn't go because there's something better for me out there. There's a reason why the universe, a
allowed me to not want to go, to put me in a better place for something more exciting and more
better coming to me in my near future. You going to something or you not going to something,
life is still the same. So there's no reason to dwell. FOMO is rooted in societal standards
to have this feeling that you need to attend everything and you lack everything that you don't
have and to create this desire that the more you go to, the better, as well as society just putting
fear into you. In that word right there, fear? Fear is a strong word, okay? Let's break down the word
FOMO, fear of missing out. Fear? What are we fearing of? Okay, are we fearing like so unbelievably
fearful that we're missing a party or missing Coachella or a birthday party? There is no fear in
missing on something, okay? That word is such a strong word and that doesn't need to be used
when you're not going to something.
Listening to yourself and staying home
can sometimes be the biggest form of joy
you could have ever thought you had at that moment
and also it could have been the perfect decision
for you to just stay home.
And this episode isn't for me to just try to push you being a home body
because I think it's really good for you
to try to go to things and experience life.
But again, choose what you want.
Pick and choose.
What you want to go to in life.
It's not about the quantity.
It's about the quality.
I know the quote that people always say,
protect your peas.
Yes, people call it cringy.
Yes, it's cliche.
But honestly, protect your damn peace.
If you know by going to this bar with your friends
that are kind of rude to you
and it's going to set you back
and because you're going to wake up the next day hung over
and you want to get things done,
then don't go.
That's a form of joy of missing out.
because guess what, you're going to actually feel more productive where you wake up in the morning
and had that time to do the things you needed to do. It's all about balance. It's all about listening to what you
want. If you want to go to something and it feels like the right decision for you to go, then go.
But don't bully yourself into going. Be okay and missing out because there's so much joy in that situation.
The next time you begin to have FOMO or on the fence about something not going and you're thinking, well,
maybe I will stay home.
But that fomo is just lingering in the back of your head.
Have a full night set for you for wherever you're needing.
If you're staying home because you feel sick, cater to your sickness.
If you're staying home because you're tired, go to bed early.
If you're staying home because you just don't want to go, create a self-care night for you.
Did you forget you're your own best friend?
You are capable of giving yourself everything that you want.
So why run with like a chicken with your head cut off?
trying to feel always in the loop of everything.
Create your own loop.
I know I have so many business listeners in here.
And I know the feeling of putting so much time into something

The world is supposed to be about having fun, not being sad, not dwelling, but listening to what

watching TV, ordering food in, and eating some cake, also known as the joy of missing out.
